- 0:00Speaker 1: Track us down. It's the Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Star Trek podcast.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Good morning, Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft
- 0:28Speaker 2: from here will join others from around the world, and
- 0:31Speaker 2: you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the
- 0:34Speaker 2: history of mankind. Mankind, that word should have new meaning
- 0:38Speaker 2: for all of us today. We can't be consumed by
- 0:41Speaker 2: our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our
- 0:45Speaker 2: common interests. Perhaps it's faith that today is the fourth
- 0:49Speaker 2: of July and you will once begin once again be
- 0:52Speaker 2: fighting for our freedom, but not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution,
- 0:57Speaker 2: from annihilation. We're fighting for our right to live, to exist,
- 1:02Speaker 2: and should.
- 1:03Speaker 3: We win, the day, the fourth of July will no
- 1:05Speaker 3: longer be known as an American holiday, but as the
- 1:08Speaker 3: day when the world declared in one voice. We will
- 1:11Speaker 3: not quietly go into the night. We will not vanish
- 1:14Speaker 3: without a fight. We're going to live on. We're going
- 1:18Speaker 3: to survive. Today we celebrate our Independence Day.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Nice Welcome to Trek Cast. Everyone, the Galaxy's Most Unpredictable
- 1:28Speaker 2: Star Trek podcast. Today on the show, as you may
- 1:32Speaker 2: have surmised, we are going to be checking out and
- 1:35Speaker 2: reviewing the movie Independence Day, plus we've got pop culture
- 1:41Speaker 2: news and your listener feedback. I am Scott Boucher's and
- 1:45Speaker 2: now I know he did not shoot that green shit
- 1:49Speaker 2: at me. It's Daniel Reyes.
- 1:51Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:51Speaker 2: It was blue. It was blue.
- 1:53Speaker 1: It was blue. Yeah.
- 1:55Speaker 2: How you doing, man, I'm doing great. How are you?
- 1:58Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I'm good. Fine.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Speech you made there, thank you, thank you? Yeah, I
- 2:02Speaker 1: understand that was all off the cuff. Yes, yeah, it
- 2:06Speaker 1: was a good, good speech. Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So happy belated Independence Day. That's right. That's right, birthday
- 2:12Speaker 2: of our nation's founding.
- 2:14Speaker 1: That's right. That's why we originally planned to, uh to
- 2:17Speaker 1: review Independence Day. That and uh it's the thirtieth anniversary
- 2:21Speaker 1: of that movie.
- 2:22Speaker 2: That's right this year. So yeah, and then we got
- 2:25Speaker 2: at last week. So yeah, yeah, we got a lot
- 2:28Speaker 2: to talk about. Supergirl came out. I went to the
- 2:31Speaker 2: Capital City Comic Con.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Oh that's right. Yeah, it's going to be a show.
- 2:36Speaker 2: It was. It was pretty cool.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So right on.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so you want to delve right into news and
- 2:42Speaker 2: we can.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, let's just get right to it, get right right,
- 2:46Speaker 1: let me get right to the news. All right. So
- 2:54Speaker 1: our first news story comes to us from Variety. I've
- 2:56Speaker 1: got a few news stories inside to ketchup from last
- 2:58Speaker 1: week as well. But we are learning that Star Wars
- 3:02Speaker 1: Star Wars Star Trek will be at Comet Con this
- 3:06Speaker 1: year in San Diego. So this is their big sixtieth anniversary.
- 3:11Speaker 1: They're going to have a panel at Hall H, which
- 3:14Speaker 1: is the big main panel there. I don't know their
- 3:19Speaker 1: Their presentation will take place on July twenty fifth, so
- 3:23Speaker 1: what like two weeks roughly at twelve thirty, so right
- 3:29Speaker 1: in the middle of the day. Most of the lower
- 3:31Speaker 1: tech or lower techs Strange and World crew will be there,
- 3:35Speaker 1: including producers The Cuba Goldsman and Henry Lonzo Meyer and
- 3:39Speaker 1: Alex Kurtzman. So that should be a couple of days
- 3:43Speaker 1: after the premiere of season four, so I'm sure they'll
- 3:47Speaker 1: be talking about that and what to expect in season five.
- 3:50Speaker 1: There will also be a sixtieth celebration of the sixtieth
- 3:55Speaker 1: anniversary celebration of Star Trek at that panel or no,
- 3:59Speaker 1: I'm sorry, another panel will be the Sixties celebration, and
- 4:03Speaker 1: that's gonna have a lot of different cast members, including
- 4:07Speaker 1: Michael Dorn, Robert Riccardo, Coliner. Trenier doesn't look like your
- 4:13Speaker 1: buddy Robbie will be there.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Robbi's my buddy, Uh Robbie McNeil.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, I'm not gonna make that one.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Dunk's not gonna be that. I'll have to talk to
- 4:22Speaker 2: him about it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you can see what you can do there.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:25Speaker 1: There will also be some other panels on July twenty third,
- 4:29Speaker 1: with so a few days earlier Star Trek the Collector Frontier,
- 4:33Speaker 1: and this will be a lot about like the products
- 4:35Speaker 1: and what they've done with the Lego group, the magic,
- 4:38Speaker 1: the gathering, and what are the kinds of things you
- 4:40Speaker 1: can see in the future from Star Trek. So it
- 4:42Speaker 1: should be pretty fun. If you're gonna go to San Diego,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I'm sure they'll have itineraries for you. But you know,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I thought that was a neat thing for people. So yeah,
- 4:51Speaker 1: so that's that news story. Our next news story comes
- 4:55Speaker 1: to us from Parade. This is kind of a rumor killer.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I fell for this room myself. But apparently there there
- 5:02Speaker 1: was talk that uh, Sir Patrick Stewart himself was going
- 5:08Speaker 1: to be retiring from acting after Avengers Doomsday, but he
- 5:14Speaker 1: has since brought that down and said that is not
- 5:17Speaker 1: the case. That he continues on on acting. He plans
- 5:20Speaker 1: on acting. Uh, and that's great.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Yeah, he's in his prime.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, eight hundred years old and in his prime.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, Waive Shadner's still doing stuff. And you know
- 5:34Speaker 2: Patrick Stewart due.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I saw Patrick Stewart in a movie recently. I don't
- 5:38Speaker 1: know if you've had the chance to see the movie
- 5:39Speaker 1: The Sheep Detectives. No, Okay, great movie, great movie. They
- 5:44Speaker 1: are not kidding when they say it is Babe Meets
- 5:49Speaker 1: Knives Out. It's a murder mystery with talking animals. It's
- 5:53Speaker 1: weird but funny.
- 5:54Speaker 2: You said, the Cheat Detectives, the Sheep Detective. The Sheep Detectives.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yes, And there's a lot of famous people that voice
- 6:01Speaker 1: the different sheep, including Patrick Stewart. He's one of them.
- 6:05Speaker 1: So fun movie. I highly recommend if you have Amazon Prime,
- 6:09Speaker 1: it comes with your membership. So but yeah, so he
- 6:13Speaker 1: will be acting for many years to come. And speaking
- 6:17Speaker 1: of acting and of that generation, I don't know if
- 6:20Speaker 1: you've been watching X Men ninety seven season two, but
- 6:25Speaker 1: there are quite a few Star Trek actors in the
- 6:28Speaker 1: voice cast. So we had Yeah. Gates McFadden was the
- 6:34Speaker 1: voice of Mother Ascante I think is her name. Also,
- 6:39Speaker 1: Michael Dorn was one of the voices of Mall. He's like, yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 1: he has a big part to do with with apocalypse
- 6:49Speaker 1: and then believe it or not, John Delancey was Rama
- 6:54Speaker 1: tutt Aka kang.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Oh.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, he voices Kang.
- 7:01Speaker 2: So I haven't seen it. I remember that. I haven't
- 7:03Speaker 2: seen the cartoon since I was a kid, but I
- 7:07Speaker 2: remember it from and I don't know if I like
- 7:09Speaker 2: watched all the episodes or whatever. I remember it fondly. Yeah,
- 7:14Speaker 2: you know, so I was actually thinking about going back
- 7:16Speaker 2: and rewatching the original and then watching ninety seven.
- 7:20Speaker 1: You know, ninety seven does a really good job of
- 7:22Speaker 1: like doing recaps.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Does it me too?
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you can just go straight into ninety seven.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I mean the thing I remember that is the theme song. Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 1: What threw me off too, is they do the theme
- 7:40Speaker 1: song again and the opening and the opening is a
- 7:44Speaker 1: shot for shot remake of the original one, to the
- 7:47Speaker 1: point that I thought, oh, they just replayed the old opening,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and then I remember, oh, no, the old opening is
- 7:54Speaker 1: in the square four x three aspect ratio. It's not
- 7:57Speaker 1: in the wide screen. He did have to redo it.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, okay, so yeah.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Okay, all right, our next news story comes to us
- 8:07Speaker 1: from Red Shirts Must Always Die, and we're learning a
- 8:12Speaker 1: little bit more about lower or lower deck. I always
- 8:15Speaker 1: want to see lower decks. H Strange to the World
- 8:17Speaker 1: season four, and we are going to see the return
- 8:20Speaker 1: of a controversial character. H Doug the Vulcan will be back.
- 8:26Speaker 1: So pat and Ollsweld. I didn't mind return, Yes.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I didn't mind him. Yeah, he represented what I like
- 8:35Speaker 2: about what I like about certain types of vulcans. I
- 8:38Speaker 2: like open minded vulcans. Yeah. You know, Spock was like
- 8:42Speaker 2: this because you know in the one line where he said, uh, logic, logic, logic,
- 8:49Speaker 2: logic is the beginning of wisdom. So he wasn't like,
- 8:52Speaker 2: you know, a hardcore you know, Tuvac always pissed me
- 8:56Speaker 2: off because he was kind of rigid. I like this guy,
- 9:01Speaker 2: and who doesn't like Patton Oswald.
- 9:03Speaker 1: So some people have used AI to make like a
- 9:06Speaker 1: continuing conversation between him and Spock, between Doug the Vulcan
- 9:10Speaker 1: and Spock, where Doug is learning more about humans, like
- 9:13Speaker 1: there's one about opiniota and he's like, but how does
- 9:16Speaker 1: the animal live without internal organs? And then and then
- 9:20Speaker 1: candy just falls out of it. That makes no sense.
- 9:23Speaker 1: How can it live? And Spock is like you are
- 9:25Speaker 1: an error it is It is not an actual animal.
- 9:27Speaker 1: It only appears as one.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Like explaining some earth things to aliens. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 2: So I thought that was funny.
- 9:40Speaker 1: All right, And then our last news story because I
- 9:42Speaker 1: have to catch up from everything that we've missed. Uh,
- 9:45Speaker 1: this one it's coming out soon. I just thought some
- 9:49Speaker 1: of you people might want to know about this. But
- 9:52Speaker 1: there's something called Star Trek Spirits and they will soon
- 9:56Speaker 1: be coming out with a single barrel whiskey call the
- 10:00Speaker 1: Captain's Table. It will be coming out in twenty eight days,
- 10:05Speaker 1: nine hours, and forty eight minutes, according to this recording.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I don't know what it's going to cost. You can
- 10:13Speaker 1: join the list, it says right there on the website.
- 10:15Speaker 1: The website is Captain's Table dot star Trek Spirits dot com.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I know past ones have reached like right around three
- 10:24Speaker 1: hundred bucks, but you get this nice bottle of whiskey.
- 10:28Speaker 1: It's even got a nice little like display case to
- 10:32Speaker 1: put it in. But three hundred bucks for a bottle
- 10:36Speaker 1: booze kind of seems like a lot to me.
- 10:37Speaker 2: But I mean, I guess if you're a huge Star
- 10:40Speaker 2: Trek fan and you're a big whiskey snob, then you know,
- 10:43Speaker 2: maybe this.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I mean hopefully, yeah, make a nice gift or something.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you know. So there you go, all right, and
- 10:53Speaker 1: that's all the news stories, all right?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yeah? Well, uh, if you want to uh, how do
- 11:02Speaker 2: you want to do this? You want to play some
- 11:04Speaker 2: some clips or.
- 11:06Speaker 1: For the for the con? Yeah, I got the two clips,
- 11:10Speaker 1: say tell me what you when you want me to
- 11:11Speaker 1: play first, and then we'll.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Go with Elizabeth Denny. So just yeah, yeah, So I
- 11:19Speaker 2: went to the Capital City Comic Con yesterday and as always,
- 11:23Speaker 2: they do panels and the two Star Trek guests that
- 11:25Speaker 2: were there were Elizabeth den Dennahey, who played Commander and
- 11:29Speaker 2: then Admiral Shelby in Star Trek, and then Tannie Newsom
- 11:34Speaker 2: was there, who voices the role of Beckett Mariner. So yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 2: why don't we start with the with the Elizabeth Denny?
- 11:43Speaker 2: I just uh, I think that I don't know if
- 11:45Speaker 2: they we caught the first part, but yeah, we did
- 11:49Speaker 2: go ahead and play the clip.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:52Speaker 2: We were thrilled when you came back for pa card.
- 11:56Speaker 2: We talked about talk about your very commonly on the podcast.
- 11:59Speaker 2: My question is, in the best of both worlds, you
- 12:03Speaker 2: were the only person in the history of Star Trek
- 12:06Speaker 2: to put Amanda Riker in his place, and how did
- 12:11Speaker 2: that make you feel?
- 12:12Speaker 5: So I heard put him in his place?
- 12:14Speaker 2: And what was the second thing?
- 12:15Speaker 6: He said?
- 12:16Speaker 2: You meet him at poker?
- 12:19Speaker 5: Okay, the poker scene was the most acting I had
- 12:24Speaker 5: to do on that show, because I don't even know
- 12:26Speaker 5: how to play old made I don't get cards at all.
- 12:32Speaker 5: So I was like, I don't know how to play poker.
- 12:36Speaker 5: Somebody teach me. I don't know what's my face supposed
- 12:39Speaker 5: to be doing. What's a poker face? I have no idea.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I was just guessing. And but like I.
- 12:45Speaker 5: Said, I think that that thing of her being like, ooh,
- 12:48Speaker 5: I know the.
- 12:49Speaker 7: Answer, a goody two shoes, and you.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Know, smart, smarty pants and the know it all it
- 12:54Speaker 5: fet into that and it was fun.
- 12:56Speaker 7: It was really fun to play.
- 12:59Speaker 5: Like I said, I'm a person who wants everybody to
- 13:02Speaker 5: like me and be happy, and to please somebody who
- 13:05Speaker 5: doesn't is very liberating and really fine. And he said
- 13:08Speaker 5: to me, you have absolutely no idea what's going to
- 13:11Speaker 5: happen to you as a result of this, and I said,
- 13:14Speaker 5: what are you talking about? And here we are, how
- 13:18Speaker 5: many years later, so he knew what he'd be saying.
- 13:22Speaker 1: You have any other people there?
- 13:25Speaker 2: You go? Yeah, So that was Elizabeth Denny basically just
- 13:30Speaker 2: the question I'd asked, if you couldn't hear it quite clearly,
- 13:32Speaker 2: was you're the only person in the history of Star
- 13:34Speaker 2: Trek to put Commander Riker in his place, and also
- 13:37Speaker 2: the only person in the history of the universe I
- 13:40Speaker 2: believe can't canonically to beat him at poker. Yeah, so
- 13:47Speaker 2: she was a delight. I got to meet her at
- 13:49Speaker 2: the I got a selfie with her. Yeah, my wife
- 13:54Speaker 2: does ray and I got a selfie with her. So
- 13:55Speaker 2: she was very She was a lovely person. The next
- 13:58Speaker 2: clip you got this is a Tawny Newsome. The thing
- 14:01Speaker 2: that got cut out is the person who did the
- 14:04Speaker 2: moderator of this. She does a lot of moderation. I've
- 14:07Speaker 2: talked to her, talked about her on the show. She's
- 14:08Speaker 2: a friend of the show. Katie Nicolau. Yeah, she's she's
- 14:13Speaker 2: she goes to like I think she told me yesterday's
- 14:16Speaker 2: she plans on doing twenty six cons this calendar year.
- 14:19Speaker 2: So which I find absolutely insane and fun at the
- 14:23Speaker 2: same time. So she does a lot of the moderation
- 14:26Speaker 2: and stuff like that, and she's the meteorologist for Channel
- 14:31Speaker 2: six and Lancing, so she's a delight. Got to talk
- 14:34Speaker 2: to her for a little bit. So she's a huge
- 14:36Speaker 2: Star Trek fan. Oh no, that was fun. So I
- 14:39Speaker 2: had just gotten done giving her a little congratulations and
- 14:43Speaker 2: telling the audience to give her a route appolage because
- 14:45Speaker 2: she was doing such a good job. She also gave
- 14:47Speaker 2: me so last year she gave me this for every
- 14:52Speaker 2: time she asked somebody answer asked the question in the panel,
- 14:55Speaker 2: she gives a little trinket and this was a piece
- 14:58Speaker 2: of gold press Latin that she gave me last year.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Oh that's cool.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Autograph it this year and then this uh, this year
- 15:04Speaker 2: she was giving out these little bracelets and one of
- 15:07Speaker 2: them says Lower Decks and the other one says the Borg.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Nice so nice.
- 15:13Speaker 2: So here's the clip.
- 15:14Speaker 1: All right, I love that.
- 15:23Speaker 2: My name is Scott. I'm actually a co host of
- 15:25Speaker 2: The Trek Cask the Star Trek podcast, and we absolutely
- 15:30Speaker 2: adored you in Lower Decks and Strange your Worlds. We
- 15:35Speaker 2: thank you for everything you brought to this franchise. Both
- 15:37Speaker 2: at in front of the screen, I'm behind you.
- 15:39Speaker 1: So what I wanted to ask you was we asked
- 15:42Speaker 1: the hard.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Hitting questions Trek.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Ask the time you were in Star Trek. Did any
- 15:48Speaker 2: of your co stars ever invite you over for dinner?
- 15:52Speaker 2: And if so, who is the best cook?
- 15:57Speaker 7: I mean a lot of them. I have been friding
- 15:59Speaker 7: me over for dinner. Who actually cooked though, instead of
- 16:03Speaker 7: just like being lazy and ordering something. Gates McFadden Dates
- 16:08Speaker 7: McFadden cooked a meal for me, Michael Dorn, her nephew,
- 16:15Speaker 7: and his girlfriend. And it was a bizarre and delightful
- 16:20Speaker 7: evening and she made I think she made like some
- 16:22Speaker 7: real chicken. It was like a Mediterranean thing. And then
- 16:26Speaker 7: actually she had me and Don Lewis over again too,
- 16:28Speaker 7: So I think Gates McFadden was cooked more for me
- 16:31Speaker 7: than any other Truck actor.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Right.
- 16:36Speaker 2: So yeah, if if you ever get invited over to
- 16:39Speaker 2: Gates McFadden's house for dinner, definitely accept that invitation.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I mean, some Medatran chickens sounds really good.
- 16:45Speaker 2: You know, And I don't think that's the first time
- 16:47Speaker 2: I've gotten that answer from a Star Trek actor. Yeah,
- 16:50Speaker 2: that's you know, as everybody knows, that's my go to question.
- 16:53Speaker 2: You're the one that came up with it, and I
- 16:55Speaker 2: just I just ran with it. So that's the question
- 16:57Speaker 2: I ask for everybody. I didn't ask that crom Elizabeth
- 17:01Speaker 2: Dennee because I didn't want to ask the same question,
- 17:03Speaker 2: the same yeah question at the same con. But yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 2: it was. She was adorable. She's very tall, yeah, yeah,
- 17:14Speaker 2: oh yeah. Yeah. She's like, she's my height, you know,
- 17:16Speaker 2: and I'm I'm almost.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Six foot, so everyone's taller than me.
- 17:20Speaker 2: So yeah, she's uh, and she's a delight. She was
- 17:24Speaker 2: a lot of fun to talk to and we really enjoyed.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I got her, I got a selfie with her, and
- 17:30Speaker 2: I got her autograph. So there's a story behind this.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Before I show it to you, I asked her if
- 17:36Speaker 2: she'd be willing to write like a three word quote
- 17:39Speaker 2: for me. She's like, yeah, absolutely, what do you want
- 17:40Speaker 2: me to say? And so there was an episode it
- 17:43Speaker 2: was season four, episode six. It was like the FERRINGI
- 17:47Speaker 2: something or other and she was in a bar and
- 17:51Speaker 2: she's gotten a fight with a FERINGI and she said
- 17:55Speaker 2: you butt ass mm hmm, okay. It was a line
- 17:58Speaker 2: she got. I just think the remember because I seen
- 18:00Speaker 2: it over and over again. I'm like, I thought that
- 18:02Speaker 2: was so funny, you butt ass, just you know. Yeah anyway,
- 18:05Speaker 2: so I said, could you uh say, you know, Scott,
- 18:08Speaker 2: you butt ass? You know tany She's like, when did
- 18:13Speaker 2: I say that? She's like she had no recollection of
- 18:17Speaker 2: saying the live yeah, and she told that story at
- 18:20Speaker 2: the panel. She's like, somebody just came up to me
- 18:22Speaker 2: to sign something. Who was it? And I raised my
- 18:24Speaker 2: hand and it was me ye and told me to
- 18:27Speaker 2: say something that's like you butt ass. And the crowd's like, yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 2: we remember it. So I had I had her sign
- 18:36Speaker 2: nice you butt ass, livelong and prosper. So this is
- 18:41Speaker 2: the poster, uh that we got in twenty twenty two
- 18:47Speaker 2: at the Star Trek convention when we all met each
- 18:49Speaker 2: other in person for the first.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Time, right right, So oh yeah, that's awesome.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that was fun.
- 18:56Speaker 1: That's really cool and that yeah, that's a that's a
- 18:58Speaker 1: great uh great autograph.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Ran into just you know a lot of Star Trek
- 19:02Speaker 2: fans gave out some stickers. Uh, you know, people were
- 19:06Speaker 2: excited to listen to the show. I hung out at
- 19:11Speaker 2: the at the Starfleet International Booth. Uh, it's it's in Lancing.
- 19:16Speaker 2: So the Lancing chapter is run by uh Vern Gibbs,
- 19:19Speaker 2: Captain Captain Gibbs of the U. S s. TACUMSA. And
- 19:23Speaker 2: they were doing so their deal is they all these
- 19:27Speaker 2: places like you know the Fible first from Star Wars
- 19:29Speaker 2: and stuff. They all the Ghostbusters. They all do charitable
- 19:31Speaker 2: stuff and they all a lot of a lot of
- 19:34Speaker 2: them raise money for things. So uh they were raising money,
- 19:37Speaker 2: uh for the City Rescue Mission in Lancing, which is
- 19:40Speaker 2: a homeless shelter. So and yeah, they so they're you know,
- 19:45Speaker 2: they're doing the Lord's work. They're they're really doing a
- 19:47Speaker 2: good job over there, you know. So uh yeah, if
- 19:52Speaker 2: it's really easy to get involved. There are local chapters
- 19:55Speaker 2: all over the country and and they're in different regions.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I forgot region this is, but they all have look
- 20:02Speaker 2: different regions and different chapters. And there's one for me.
- 20:05Speaker 2: There's one in my hometown in Kalamazoo which is close
- 20:08Speaker 2: by one and Grand Rapids one in Lancing. But there's
- 20:11Speaker 2: one all over the place. So you know, if you
- 20:13Speaker 2: want to just you know, go check it out. I
- 20:17Speaker 2: think it's sti dot com and you can link up
- 20:22Speaker 2: with a local chapter and they all have Facebook groups,
- 20:24Speaker 2: so a lot of them they get together once a
- 20:26Speaker 2: week or they might do an adopt a highway or
- 20:28Speaker 2: you can, you know, get involved in whatever charity kind
- 20:31Speaker 2: of thing they're doing. So yeah, it's a great, great organization.
- 20:35Speaker 2: So hats off to vern for they did great job
- 20:38Speaker 2: with their displays and everything. They got Captain's chair that
- 20:40Speaker 2: he built that's got interactive buttons, and they've got like
- 20:43Speaker 2: a place where you can sit down and push some
- 20:45Speaker 2: buttons in here sound effects, and they've got banners all
- 20:48Speaker 2: over the place, and they've got this huge three D
- 20:50Speaker 2: printed enterprise and a whole bunch of display like pros
- 20:54Speaker 2: and stuff like that. So yeah, so they're gonna be
- 20:56Speaker 2: at the They're always at the Lancing Comic Con. Gonna
- 21:00Speaker 2: be at the Grand Rapids Comic Con. So yeah, cool.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Lancing Comic Con is coming up in November. No, Grand
- 21:08Speaker 2: Rapids Comic Con is coming up in November. So many
- 21:10Speaker 2: comic cons. I don't know how Nick Katie.
- 21:11Speaker 1: About this season.
- 21:13Speaker 2: She does, like I said, she does twenty six cons
- 21:16Speaker 2: or events like that a year.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's one every other week.
- 21:20Speaker 2: That's one every other week. And she has got energy
- 21:24Speaker 2: like no other person I've ever met in my life. Yeah,
- 21:27Speaker 2: she's she's running around on that stage and she's going
- 21:30Speaker 2: around with a bicrophone and yeah she's great.
- 21:33Speaker 1: So well that's great, that's great. All right, Well we
- 21:37Speaker 1: should probably get to our main topic because let's do
- 21:40Speaker 1: as much to discuss there. So here we go.
- 21:42Speaker 2: There is fun.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Will now comments. All right, So we are reviewing the
- 21:54Speaker 1: nineteen ninety six film Independence Day, just in time for
- 21:59Speaker 1: our Independence Day ourselves, you know, it was the idea
- 22:03Speaker 1: was to to celebrate that. This was a film starring
- 22:07Speaker 1: Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman. Originally released June twenty fifth,
- 22:13Speaker 1: nineteen ninety six, had a budget of seventy five million dollars,
- 22:17Speaker 1: went on to make eight hundred and seventeen million dollars.
- 22:21Speaker 1: So a success. Yeah. Yeah. The Rotten Tomato score on it,
- 22:28Speaker 1: you know, pretty even. He split pretty pretty uh pretty
- 22:31Speaker 1: well liked by both critics and uh fans, seventy seven
- 22:36Speaker 1: percent by the critics, seventy five percent by the fans.
- 22:39Speaker 1: So people tend to like this thing, you know. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I mean it's got you know, any movie that's got
- 22:46Speaker 2: both Robert Loser and Randy Quaid, right, I mean, you
- 22:52Speaker 2: know what that's like nuts.
- 22:55Speaker 1: So yeah, Jacob says, he's watches he watches it every year. Wow,
- 23:02Speaker 1: some dedication.
- 23:03Speaker 2: So we had a big Independence Day party at my
- 23:06Speaker 2: mother in law's. We bought a and we got an
- 23:10Speaker 2: obscene amount of fireworks, the big booming like professional type
- 23:15Speaker 2: fireworks are legal in Michigan, so any any jackass with
- 23:20Speaker 2: a few hundred bucks can go anywhere in town and
- 23:23Speaker 2: buy super dangerous fireworks. So that's what we did. So
- 23:28Speaker 2: we was and and we had you know, hot dogs
- 23:31Speaker 2: and stuff like that, and I had a TV setup
- 23:33Speaker 2: with a built in DVD player and we had Independence
- 23:36Speaker 2: Day playing in the background. And then just before we
- 23:40Speaker 2: let off the fireworks, uh, we did the national anthem
- 23:46Speaker 2: and then we played the President's speech.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Oh that's awesome. Yeah, that is awesome.
- 23:52Speaker 2: So yeah, the President's speech. Let's talk about that a
- 23:56Speaker 2: little bit.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Originally the producers and the powers to be were like, yeah,
- 24:03Speaker 2: we don't want that in the movie. I didn't know that,
- 24:08Speaker 2: and and Bill Pullman, this was not that. That's that's
- 24:14Speaker 2: that speech was not part of the original script. And
- 24:18Speaker 2: so they had he had like a day to sort
- 24:22Speaker 2: of memorize that. So he he basically got the script,
- 24:25Speaker 2: got the speech and locked himself in a hotel room
- 24:28Speaker 2: overnight and had to sort of like, you know, find
- 24:32Speaker 2: out exactly how he was going to do it. So
- 24:35Speaker 2: and then it you know, it was sort of impromptu
- 24:38Speaker 2: and you know he did. They didn't have a lot
- 24:40Speaker 2: of time to prep for it, and it became one
- 24:43Speaker 2: of the most famous speeches in all of cinematic history.
- 24:49Speaker 2: So but yeah, it's another couple of favorites of mine.
- 24:55Speaker 2: H Adam Baldwin as Major Mitchell you know, went on
- 25:00Speaker 2: to play Jane from Firefly and uh, he was also
- 25:05Speaker 2: in oh what was that? What was that comedy? Do Chuck? Uh,
- 25:11Speaker 2: he was in Chuck. So he's he's done a lot
- 25:15Speaker 2: of a lot of good stuff. Jud Hirsh is just
- 25:19Speaker 2: yea an American classic. You know, everybody loves him. And
- 25:27Speaker 2: then you know Jeff Goldbloom. Jeff Goldbloom is well, he's
- 25:32Speaker 2: my wife's favorite actor. I think he's my wife's favorite
- 25:34Speaker 2: human being.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Okay, okay, so his you know.
- 25:40Speaker 2: They just basically said, your style is what we want.
- 25:43Speaker 2: We want the uh and the you know, uh, the
- 25:46Speaker 2: uh Jeff Goldbloom is what we want so, and that's
- 25:53Speaker 2: what he did. And he was just he was Jeff
- 25:55Speaker 2: Goldbloom playing Jeff Goldbloom playing David Levin's Yes.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I you know one thing that that this movie all
- 26:05Speaker 1: Will also famously has. I don't know if you know this,
- 26:09Speaker 1: but Ethan Hawk was originally offered the role that Will
- 26:14Speaker 1: Smith played.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So while you were talking, I was looking up the clip.
- 26:20Speaker 1: There was a clip from the old Conan O'Brien show
- 26:24Speaker 1: where Ethan Hawk talks about that. So me, really, yeah, yeah,
- 26:30Speaker 1: So let me pull this up so I can play
- 26:33Speaker 1: you why Ethan Hawk turned it down and what he
- 26:36Speaker 1: thought about it afterwards. So send you the script Independency
- 26:40Speaker 1: and they're like saying you can do this.
- 26:41Speaker 8: And and like there's like, you know, dollar bills attached
- 26:44Speaker 8: to it. Yeah, I mean, and I'm like, and I'm
- 26:46Speaker 8: such a big shock. I think I'm so cool, and
- 26:48Speaker 8: I'm reading it to my buddy in the car. I'm like,
- 26:50Speaker 8: isn't this a bad like et phone home? That's stupid,
- 26:53Speaker 8: you know what I mean. And I'm like I'm going
- 26:55Speaker 8: through it to the point where I literally throw it out.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Through the strip, say out the window on a roadtro
- 27:02Speaker 2: into the Texas Highway.
- 27:03Speaker 8: Okay, now cut to cut to cut to Will Smith's
- 27:06Speaker 8: driving down the highway.
- 27:14Speaker 9: No, this is true.
- 27:15Speaker 2: This is true.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I don't believe it.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Listen to this right.
- 27:18Speaker 8: So the next you know, the next summer, I'm dating
- 27:21Speaker 8: this girl, wonderful woman. She is going to school at
- 27:24Speaker 8: ut and uh it's fourth of July and everybody wants
- 27:28Speaker 8: to go to the movies.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:28Speaker 1: We're with a big group of people and everbody's like, hey,
- 27:30Speaker 1: let's go to the movies. What do you want to
- 27:31Speaker 1: go see it?
- 27:31Speaker 2: Everyone's like, let's go see you in the Pendance day.
- 27:33Speaker 8: I'm like, all right, I'm sure you know this will
- 27:35Speaker 8: be this will be amusing. See how bad this is.
- 27:38Speaker 8: I walk in to the theater. Obviously it's completely sold out. Right,
- 27:42Speaker 8: you cannot get in. Will Smith says, you know, e
- 27:44Speaker 8: t phone home boom.
- 27:45Speaker 1: In the place wars, right.
- 27:48Speaker 8: I mean they basically get a standing ovation in the
- 27:51Speaker 8: middle of the movie, and I'm sitting there, guy going on,
- 27:56Speaker 8: I really didn't.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Get the joke, and I I.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Told them Lynn afterwards.
- 28:02Speaker 8: I said it wasn't that good, though, was it. I Mean,
- 28:05Speaker 8: I know everybody else loved it, but it wasn't that good?
- 28:07Speaker 6: It was really good.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's still it there you go.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah it should have good a yeah, well, the
- 28:16Speaker 2: the studio was unsure about Will Smith. Yeah, you know,
- 28:21Speaker 2: and and I've I did a ton of deep dives
- 28:25Speaker 2: in this listen to a lot of interviews. I probably
- 28:29Speaker 2: watched four hours behind the scenes, not just on the
- 28:32Speaker 2: DVD or you know, director's commentary stuff, but like other
- 28:36Speaker 2: YouTube video yeah, about Independence Day and stuff like that.
- 28:40Speaker 2: And and there were whispers that like, we don't know
- 28:43Speaker 2: if we want a black actor to be the lead.
- 28:46Speaker 2: We don't think Will Smith has enough star power even
- 28:49Speaker 2: if we do choose him. And and then you know,
- 28:53Speaker 2: but I mean nobody, you can't think of anybody else
- 28:57Speaker 2: who could do that role. He he he. He bound
- 29:00Speaker 2: staff of all of his co stars perfectly. He bounced
- 29:03Speaker 2: off a Harry Conic junior perfectly, Jeff Golden perfectly. You know. So, yeah,
- 29:10Speaker 2: I'm despite what you might think about Will Smith, he
- 29:12Speaker 2: was perfect for this.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Role, that's right. Yeah, So he did a great job.
- 29:17Speaker 1: That was those were the years he was saving us
- 29:19Speaker 1: from the aliens, Like it's like that and Men in
- 29:21Speaker 1: Black back to.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Back exactly exactly. Yeah, yeah, he just became kind of
- 29:25Speaker 2: a household name overnight. You know, the fresh prince. He was,
- 29:28Speaker 2: you know, the comedy guy. But could he do action?
- 29:31Speaker 2: You know? Yeah, and Men in Black and this and
- 29:34Speaker 2: Bad Boys and so yeah, and I think this was
- 29:39Speaker 2: coming off the heels. There was a movie that he
- 29:41Speaker 2: did just before this. It might have been Bad Boys.
- 29:46Speaker 2: And finally the studios are like, yeah, I guess if
- 29:48Speaker 2: this kid can you.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Know, yeah, Bad Boys is a pretty fun movie.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Bad Boys came out in ninety five. So the year.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Before Jacobson's Independence Day was adapted into a combat fight
- 30:02Speaker 1: simulator game in nineteen ninety seven. People forget, huh, I
- 30:08Speaker 1: didn't really.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Fun to play the Day on like the PS five
- 30:10Speaker 2: or something.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean.
- 30:15Speaker 2: They should. They should with something like I don't know
- 30:18Speaker 2: because like, okay, it's been thirty years. You said, right,
- 30:21Speaker 2: ten years ago, Independence State two came out and that
- 30:24Speaker 2: was kind of like yeah, no it really, but yeah,
- 30:27Speaker 2: maybe ten years from now, you know, in twenty thirty six,
- 30:31Speaker 2: we'll talk about Independence Date three and the accompanying video
- 30:34Speaker 2: game on our podcast.
- 30:36Speaker 1: There you go. Yeah, that's uh, that's something you don't
- 30:40Speaker 1: see much anymore, is the video game tie ins, right,
- 30:45Speaker 1: that's just the thing that does not happen anymore.
- 30:47Speaker 2: It's kind of gone the opposite. Yeah, you see a
- 30:50Speaker 2: lot of video games becoming movies, right right, the TV shows. Yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 2: you know.
- 30:56Speaker 1: So yeah, but if you have no seen this movie,
- 31:01Speaker 1: I mean, watch it like it's. Oh it's a classic.
- 31:04Speaker 2: It's it's I mean, and there's there's a lot wrong
- 31:09Speaker 2: with it. But you know, like one of the knits
- 31:13Speaker 2: that I had and that I've seen in some of
- 31:17Speaker 2: the forums and some of the whatever, is so in
- 31:20Speaker 2: nineteen ninety six technology, we were able to create a
- 31:23Speaker 2: virus that could impact an alien computer software program.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Like in an old MacBook. Yeah.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that was kind of silly.
- 31:36Speaker 1: But I don't know if we could do that now,
- 31:37Speaker 1: you know.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think today's technology would be able to
- 31:42Speaker 2: defeat nineteen ninety six alien technology.
- 31:44Speaker 1: No, No, not at all. Uh. There's also a really
- 31:49Speaker 1: fun scene with Brent Spiner if you haven't seen the movie.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Yes, one of the other reasons we chose this this
- 31:57Speaker 2: this movie to do on this particular part. Yeah, Brent
- 32:00Speaker 2: Spiner had a great, great couple of scenes in this
- 32:05Speaker 2: He plays what's his character's name? It's like a doctor
- 32:11Speaker 2: so and so, yeah, crazy long haired guy who's like
- 32:16Speaker 2: been hauled up in Area fifty one since the sixties
- 32:19Speaker 2: and he doesn't get out much. And yeah, well and
- 32:24Speaker 2: at the end of the movie he gets taken over
- 32:26Speaker 2: spoiler alert, he gets taken over by an alien who
- 32:30Speaker 2: who speaks telepathically through him and then presumably dies. Okay, yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 2: I would think so, But we're going to go into
- 32:38Speaker 2: that next year during this week when we review Independence
- 32:43Speaker 2: Day two. Yeah, okay, you know, my.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Head canon has always been that Independence Day and the
- 32:55Speaker 1: Pacific Rim movies are in the same universe because both
- 33:00Speaker 1: are like aliens are trying to take over the world, right,
- 33:03Speaker 1: And so my thought is, Okay, in in the first wave,
- 33:08Speaker 1: they invaded with ships and spaceships and and they they lost, right,
- 33:14Speaker 1: So when they lost, they decided to go into the
- 33:17Speaker 1: ocean regroup, and then from there they discovered the Kaiju
- 33:22Speaker 1: and have just been releasing Kaiju, deciding that Okay, we
- 33:26Speaker 1: couldn't beat them with the giant force, but what if
- 33:29Speaker 1: we had one big thing attacking them?
- 33:32Speaker 2: Okay, are there like pets.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Yeah, they're they're kind of like attack dogs, right, So
- 33:39Speaker 1: then that that way like you can't upload you can't
- 33:42Speaker 1: upload a virus to them and make them stop, right.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Okay, so that they've learned.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Yeah, that's my head cannon, you know, take it.
- 33:56Speaker 2: So we'll talk about I think we can talk about that,
- 33:59Speaker 2: Like I said, next year on the show, we'll do uh,
- 34:02Speaker 2: Independence State two Resurgence.
- 34:04Speaker 1: That's right, yeah, doctor.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Doctor yeah, doctor oakin ok okay, I think it's okin. Yeah,
- 34:12Speaker 2: doctor yeah. Played by Brent Spider, who also played him
- 34:18Speaker 2: in Spoiler Alert, played him in Independence State two.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Oh I didn't know that.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Oh you have it. Oh it's delight horrible. Oh yeah,
- 34:31Speaker 2: you gotta see if you're an independence I mean yeah,
- 34:33Speaker 2: you gotta for the same reason you gotta watch Star
- 34:36Speaker 2: Trek five, you know. I mean like Star Trek five
- 34:41Speaker 2: was a horrible movie, yet we quote you know, there's
- 34:43Speaker 2: no medical about it. I know, the ship like the
- 34:45Speaker 2: back of me hand, you know. So there's there's it's
- 34:50Speaker 2: a horrible movie with good things at it.
- 34:52Speaker 1: What am I gonna be like, all right, here's how
- 34:53Speaker 1: we fixed this, here's how we make this good.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Oh you're gonna you're gonna you're gonna be all over
- 34:59Speaker 2: this mo.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 35:01Speaker 2: In fact, you're going to rewrite the whole movie. That's
- 35:04Speaker 2: the part about the podcast. I'm going to look forward
- 35:06Speaker 2: to the most.
- 35:07Speaker 10: Okay, Okay, because Daniel you have I mean, I'm not
- 35:12Speaker 10: trying to like, you know, Bud your biscuit or anything,
- 35:15Speaker 10: but your ideas for movies like redoing them to make
- 35:18Speaker 10: it better are fantastic.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Wait till you hear what I come up with super Girl.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Oh boy, oh boy, Yeah, I have thought about that movie.
- 35:31Speaker 2: I mean, what else can we say about Independence Day? Welcome?
- 35:35Speaker 1: What else can we say?
- 35:36Speaker 2: Right?
- 35:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 35:39Speaker 4: Uh?
- 35:40Speaker 2: Uh military involvement Yeah, there was no uh cooperation with
- 35:48Speaker 2: the military at all. Uh. None of the planes. Yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 2: and none of the planes were real. They had to
- 35:54Speaker 2: use all C g I dog fight stuff. It looked fantastic.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Yeah they could they did. Now at first the military
- 36:01Speaker 2: was on board. They're like, yeah, we'll do you know,
- 36:03Speaker 2: because the military does a lot of these motion pictures.
- 36:06Speaker 2: The promotion, a lot of people joined the Air Force,
- 36:09Speaker 2: in the in the Marine Corps because of this movie. Yeah,
- 36:11Speaker 2: you know, there was there was an insert There was
- 36:13Speaker 2: definitely a hike in recruiting and people were like, yeah,
- 36:19Speaker 2: I'm going to join the military. Uh. And the military
- 36:21Speaker 2: was on board. They're like, yeah, we'll provide planes and
- 36:24Speaker 2: pilots and all this stuff. And they read the script
- 36:26Speaker 2: and they got to the script where it said Area
- 36:29Speaker 2: fifty one and they're like, yeah, you can't have any
- 36:36Speaker 2: mention whatsoever of Area fifty one a secret base and whatever.
- 36:44Speaker 2: What state were they in, whatever part of it was
- 36:46Speaker 2: in California, Nevada, they said, no mention whatsoever Area fifty
- 36:51Speaker 2: one or a secret base anywhere, and Rowan whatever is.
- 36:55Speaker 2: The director was like, that's like a big part of
- 36:59Speaker 2: the movie. We're keeping it in and the military said
- 37:03Speaker 2: so yeah. Yeah, So they divorced themselves from the movie
- 37:07Speaker 2: because they didn't want any mention of Area fifty one
- 37:11Speaker 2: because Area fifty one is not known by anybody. Yeah,
- 37:15Speaker 2: you and I are talking about it everyone, and in
- 37:18Speaker 2: ninety six we were talking about it. Yeah, everybody knows that
- 37:21Speaker 2: there's an Area fifty one.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Yeah, to the point that I I am so convinced
- 37:28Speaker 1: that they they they maintained the facade of Area fifty
- 37:31Speaker 1: one because the real places are otherwhere else of course,
- 37:35Speaker 1: of course, Yeah, that's what it's got to be.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't you don't have a I mean, I
- 37:42Speaker 2: think some of the signs at Area fifty one say
- 37:45Speaker 2: it's Area fifty one. I mean, it's obviously a decoy.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Or they're keeping it hush hushed for many reasons, either
- 37:53Speaker 2: A there's nothing there and they just want to keep
- 37:55Speaker 2: the public guessing, or B there are alien craft there
- 37:58Speaker 2: and they just want to keep the public guessing.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I've been to Rosweld, which is real close to Area
- 38:03Speaker 1: fifty one, and roswelt like the manhole covers have aliens
- 38:07Speaker 1: on them right on the street, right the street lights
- 38:12Speaker 1: look like alien heads.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Sure, sure, it's just well, and here's the other thing too,
- 38:17Speaker 2: here's the other thing too. Nobody cares. And in this
- 38:21Speaker 2: day and age of you know, TikTok and what's the
- 38:23Speaker 2: next story, and you know who died, nobody cares. Okay,
- 38:26Speaker 2: it's old dudes.
- 38:28Speaker 3: They came out with yeah, information, Yeah, we've got alien craft, We've.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Got aliens, and everybody was like, okay.
- 38:38Speaker 1: I'm going They literally said we have biologics and craft,
- 38:44Speaker 1: and we all just go, yeah, whatever, I gotta pay
- 38:45Speaker 1: rent tomorrow, so right, nobody cares. Cares.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Nobody cares, which is why if something ever happened like
- 38:52Speaker 2: in Independence day, or maybe they're not intent to kill
- 38:57Speaker 2: us if if aliens ever do show up up.
- 39:00Speaker 1: M hmm.
- 39:01Speaker 2: It's not gonna be the news story that everybody thinks
- 39:03Speaker 2: it's gonna be. It's gonna be business as usual three
- 39:07Speaker 2: days later.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's not.
- 39:11Speaker 2: And nobody's gonna care. It's like what they're gonna huh okay, Yeah,
- 39:16Speaker 2: I'm back to back to watching Star Trek. Yeah, nobody cares.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Nobody cares. You know, they they the Artemist two mission
- 39:25Speaker 2: they went to the moon. Mm hmm, nobody cared. Nobody
- 39:29Speaker 2: watched it. Nobody's paying attention to the artist three mission.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Nobody's saying attention to SpaceX or NASA or anything that's
- 39:36Speaker 2: going on.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Everyone. We would just recorded for Dictate. It would just
- 39:39Speaker 1: be likes my reaction to the aliens. Yeah, and and probably.
- 39:44Speaker 2: The most accurate part of Independence Day I found was
- 39:50Speaker 2: the warning from the news people, please do not shoot
- 39:53Speaker 2: at the aliens. Yes, I guarantee you that that that
- 39:59Speaker 2: is going to happen. People see a flying saucer, You're
- 40:02Speaker 2: gonna have everybody out with their ar fifteen's. You know,
- 40:11Speaker 2: these colors don't run.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I just I love the idea of the guy that's
- 40:19Speaker 1: like this thing flew across space at pretty much light speed,
- 40:24Speaker 1: you know, millions of years ahead of us. But my
- 40:28Speaker 1: gun will stop it.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Yeah, let me my five point five six rounds. Yeah,
- 40:33Speaker 2: that's gonna it's gonna do just the trick.
- 40:36Speaker 1: That's right. Oh, ridiculous.
- 40:40Speaker 2: But and at the other end of the political spectrum,
- 40:42Speaker 2: you're gonna have, like, you know, people with flowers going
- 40:46Speaker 2: up to these aliens intent Kelly to us, going make peace,
- 40:50Speaker 2: not war. Here's a flower. Yeah, al, it's gonna do
- 40:53Speaker 2: the same thing to them that they did to the
- 40:56Speaker 2: Friendship one helicopter in the movie. That's right, destroyer. So yeah,
- 41:02Speaker 2: whether you're on the left or the right of the aisle,
- 41:05Speaker 2: we're dead or wrong.
- 41:07Speaker 1: That's right.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Dead.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Oh well, I alien overlords.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you think I've pissed off enough of our
- 41:18Speaker 2: demographic of our viewership?
- 41:20Speaker 1: Now, I don't know. We'll find out. We'll find out.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Send your emails to trek cast TG at gmail. That's right,
- 41:29Speaker 2: that's right, I'll leave leave leave my email dress that's right.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Oh boy. Yeah.
- 41:37Speaker 1: But it's a fun movie, you know. I enjoyed it.
- 41:40Speaker 2: A lot of fun, a lot of fun.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Oh, you want to talk about Supergirl? A little bit
- 41:47Speaker 1: before we move on.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so, I think so okay.
- 41:52Speaker 1: So it's struggling at the box office. It's not doing
- 41:56Speaker 1: the best.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Yeah, big time.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know where it's at. And right now.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Has it cracked a hundred million?
- 42:06Speaker 1: It's one hundred and ten million worldwide so far. I'm
- 42:10Speaker 1: looking up the numbers now and see box office Mojo.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Uh where is Oh god, it just has all the
- 42:19Speaker 1: numbers individually, doesn't total it. Oh yeah, there it is. Okay,
- 42:24Speaker 1: one hundred and ten worldwide so far, it's only made
- 42:27Speaker 1: sixty three million domestically. This thing had quite a large budget,
- 42:32Speaker 1: I want to say, like one hundred and seventy million,
- 42:35Speaker 1: so it needed to make it. I think it needed
- 42:38Speaker 1: to make like three point fifty to break even with.
- 42:41Speaker 2: All this advertising budget and everything like that.
- 42:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:45Speaker 2: But yeah, I I to start off with, I enjoyed
- 42:50Speaker 2: the movie. It wasn't, you know, some sort of crazy
- 42:55Speaker 2: movie going experience. It definitely wasn't Superman, although a lot
- 42:59Speaker 2: of had an issue with that one. So Millie Alcock
- 43:04Speaker 2: as Supergirl, David corn Sweat as Superman makes an appearance,
- 43:08Speaker 2: and then Eve Ridley as Ruthie. Yeah, so it was
- 43:13Speaker 2: basically about It was basically about a girl and her dog. Yeah,
- 43:18Speaker 2: And that is so I got a couple of thoughts
- 43:21Speaker 2: about the movie, good and bad. Good. I I like,
- 43:27Speaker 2: I like this movie the same way that I like
- 43:29Speaker 2: Guardians of the Galaxy three, because it wasn't world uh
- 43:35Speaker 2: galaxy or universe ending consequences.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Yeah it was.
- 43:39Speaker 2: It was It was just about saving the dog basically.
- 43:45Speaker 2: So I like that that, you know, because with every
- 43:48Speaker 2: you know, every Avengers movie, the stakes get higher and
- 43:51Speaker 2: higher and higher. You know, they gotta save they gotta
- 43:55Speaker 2: save the team, and they gotta save the country, and
- 43:57Speaker 2: they gotta save the world, and they gotta save the
- 43:59Speaker 2: universe and now they got to probably save the multiverse,
- 44:02Speaker 2: and you know, so it gets the stakes get bigger
- 44:04Speaker 2: and bigger and bigger. The baddies get worse and more
- 44:07Speaker 2: powerful and more powerful. So I didn't have a problem
- 44:11Speaker 2: with that. I thought that Lobo was underutilized and misutilized. Yeah,
- 44:19Speaker 2: I was not expecting the way they treated him. Yeah,
- 44:25Speaker 2: but I thought it was quite underutilized.
- 44:28Speaker 1: So what do you Yeah, I I mean spoilers of
- 44:34Speaker 1: this movie, because you know, yeah, we'll probably we'll probably
- 44:37Speaker 1: do spoilers. So if you haven't watched it, sorry, we're
- 44:40Speaker 1: gonna probably spoil it. But to me, this movie very
- 44:45Speaker 1: clearly took some cues from John Wick in that her
- 44:50Speaker 1: her dog got hurt and now she's gonna go get revenge.
- 44:55Speaker 1: The the whole thing with Lobo, he felt very shoehorned
- 45:00Speaker 1: to me, like none of his scenes really like he himself.
- 45:04Speaker 1: The performance is great, right, Jason Momoa's Lobo. Great casting.
- 45:09Speaker 1: It should have been done from the beginning.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Oh but yeah, but.
- 45:14Speaker 1: What what he does and and what he adds to
- 45:17Speaker 1: the movie, there's nothing like it doesn't doesn't do it.
- 45:21Speaker 1: If you took those scenes out of the movie, it
- 45:24Speaker 1: literally would not be any different.
- 45:26Speaker 2: No, it'd be the same movie.
- 45:28Speaker 1: It would be the same movie, right, It just it
- 45:31Speaker 1: would just not have Lobo in it. So that that
- 45:34Speaker 1: was a little like dispariting for me. Yeah, And I
- 45:40Speaker 1: think the the movie, see, I just want to go
- 45:44Speaker 1: into fixing it already. I I mean, yeah, I think
- 45:50Speaker 1: the movie. It was a good first draft, I think,
- 45:57Speaker 1: and but I think they could have done something much
- 46:02Speaker 1: better with it. And I think that the elements of
- 46:04Speaker 1: that were all there. He just had to tie it in.
- 46:08Speaker 1: So this movie deals a lot with with grief and trauma, right,
- 46:15Speaker 1: and and the whole idea is that Supergirl is traumatized
- 46:20Speaker 1: because she saw Crypton fall. Right she was she was older,
- 46:25Speaker 1: and not only did she see Krypton fall, but then
- 46:28Speaker 1: her city somehow escaped the destruction of Krypton and survived
- 46:33Speaker 1: a little bit longer and and uh and from there
- 46:38Speaker 1: they ended up getting ryptonite poisoning and dying. So she
- 46:42Speaker 1: was the last last survivor. So that's that's interesting. But
- 46:49Speaker 1: they also have this throwaway line about krem of the
- 46:53Speaker 1: Seven Hills, the main bad guy, where they say that
- 46:56Speaker 1: his race of people, they're an all males spies, and
- 47:01Speaker 1: so they have to kidnap girls in order to survive,
- 47:04Speaker 1: to take them as braids to continue their species.
- 47:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 47:08Speaker 1: So, I thought you had a really interesting through line
- 47:12Speaker 1: where you could have made Kremit interesting because like in
- 47:15Speaker 1: this movie, he's just a mustache twirling villain who just
- 47:18Speaker 1: does evil to do evil, right, But had you made
- 47:22Speaker 1: him somebody who was like, I am doing this to
- 47:26Speaker 1: make my people survive. You know, you Kryptonian, you know
- 47:30Speaker 1: what it's like to lose your people. Would you not
- 47:33Speaker 1: do anything to do to have them live? Would you
- 47:37Speaker 1: not do anything to bring brat Krypton. So then that
- 47:41Speaker 1: way she had to it's not just stopping him, but
- 47:45Speaker 1: it's like she understands him, right. And then the whole
- 47:49Speaker 1: like killing Ruthie's family, I think you didn't need to
- 47:53Speaker 1: go that far with it. You could have done he
- 47:56Speaker 1: kidnapped her sister right as of the child brides, and
- 48:01Speaker 1: so it's it's we need to go get my sister back,
- 48:05Speaker 1: right maybe and maybe and maybe the dad got hurt
- 48:09Speaker 1: in the in the fight, and and so that's why
- 48:12Speaker 1: you know he's not going to do it. And Supergirl's like, hey,
- 48:16Speaker 1: you know, I'm not. I put my neck out before
- 48:19Speaker 1: and it didn't work out, and so I'm not going
- 48:21Speaker 1: to do this. So you had that through line where
- 48:24Speaker 1: where it could have been, you know, you could have
- 48:30Speaker 1: added look a Supergirl, Kara, you're you're out there getting drunk.
- 48:35Speaker 1: You're you're being selfish because you're you're wallowing in your
- 48:41Speaker 1: self pity, but other people need you. That's how Krypton
- 48:44Speaker 1: lives on, showing what Kryptonians can do.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 48:49Speaker 1: You could have had them Lobo show up, because Lobo
- 48:52Speaker 1: is also the last of his people because he killed
- 48:54Speaker 1: all his people, right, and he could have been the
- 48:58Speaker 1: opposite end of like, you know, look, you just need
- 49:01Speaker 1: to do whatever you need for yourself. That's why I
- 49:03Speaker 1: killed because his species is like the deal is only
- 49:06Speaker 1: they can be killed by other people of their species.
- 49:09Speaker 1: So he killed them all so he could be immortal.
- 49:12Speaker 1: So so he could, you know, you could do something
- 49:16Speaker 1: with him saying like, look, you you just love for yourself,
- 49:19Speaker 1: do what you want. It's what I did and it
- 49:21Speaker 1: serves me well. And now I just do whatever I
- 49:23Speaker 1: want to do whenever I want to do it. And
- 49:25Speaker 1: so it's it's like the deb on the angel right,
- 49:27Speaker 1: but but even the angel side is like, yeah, you
- 49:30Speaker 1: can do anything for your species, but within limits, right,
- 49:34Speaker 1: And then yeah, and then you can even add in
- 49:37Speaker 1: from from Superman where they mentioned that Clark's parents wanted
- 49:42Speaker 1: him to take over the planet and be a ruler,
- 49:45Speaker 1: and right, they weren't. They weren't the good, noble Cryptonians
- 49:48Speaker 1: that we'd all heard of before. So yeah, you could
- 49:53Speaker 1: have had Lobo. Like I knew the Cryptonians and they
- 49:55Speaker 1: were assholes and they would try to take over places
- 49:57Speaker 1: and they were you know what I mean. Yeah, and
- 50:01Speaker 1: like and like they could even say to a supergirl like, oh,
- 50:03Speaker 1: you're just another one of them, and she'd be like,
- 50:05Speaker 1: but no, I'm better than that. Clark has shown me
- 50:08Speaker 1: a better way. And so like you see her learning
- 50:11Speaker 1: to be good, and you see her learning to that.
- 50:15Speaker 1: You can't just swallow in the self pity. You have
- 50:17Speaker 1: to you know, there's other people to fight for, there's
- 50:20Speaker 1: other people to do. And then with Krem, you know
- 50:23Speaker 1: he doesn't want to be doing these things, but what
- 50:25Speaker 1: else is he supposed to do? Like there's no you know,
- 50:28Speaker 1: female species. So then what you could do is you
- 50:32Speaker 1: have some sort of mcguffin that's like this is the
- 50:34Speaker 1: Kryptonian Rehabilitation Chamber something that like because what I think
- 50:42Speaker 1: you could easily done is like, yeah, Crypto's not in danger.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Like in the comic, Crypto gets cured within like three pages,
- 50:48Speaker 1: Like it's pretty quick. So you could have put Crypto
- 50:53Speaker 1: in like this device, he his Kryptonite poisoning goes away
- 50:57Speaker 1: and he's fine or whatever that poisoning is. He's fine.
- 51:01Speaker 1: But it's like a device that could also like not
- 51:05Speaker 1: quite cloning, but it can it can do you know,
- 51:09Speaker 1: it can create life in a way, so Kara can
- 51:12Speaker 1: give him that and say like, here, you don't need
- 51:15Speaker 1: to take child brides anymore. You can use this device
- 51:18Speaker 1: and continue on your species. Right, and so now Kreme
- 51:22Speaker 1: is no longer a bad guy. Like she helps make
- 51:24Speaker 1: him a good guy, you know, she helps him be
- 51:27Speaker 1: the savior of his people.
- 51:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Like it's not fully thought out, but there's nuggets there,
- 51:35Speaker 1: you know. Yeah. The The other thing too, that that
- 51:41Speaker 1: really bothered me is uh, with Crypto with the with
- 51:46Speaker 1: the kryptonite or whatever that poisoning is, Kara gets hit
- 51:50Speaker 1: with kryptonite, flies up towards the sun and it just
- 51:54Speaker 1: burns out of her system. Right, Well, why wouldn't that
- 51:57Speaker 1: work for Crypto?
- 52:00Speaker 2: Could you take welling about kryptonite? That's the thing about kryptonite,
- 52:04Speaker 2: because you and I have different Like Okay, so if
- 52:11Speaker 2: you and I were to explain to somebody what kryptonite is,
- 52:16Speaker 2: you and I would say, well, it's radioactipieces of Superman
- 52:19Speaker 2: Homeworld that weakens him. Now, when the producers explained to
- 52:22Speaker 2: crypt explain what kryptonite is to the writers of this movie,
- 52:26Speaker 2: the writers say, what is kryptonite? The producers go, It's
- 52:30Speaker 2: whatever you need it to be. How does the affect
- 52:33Speaker 2: Supergirl however you want it to, you know. So it's
- 52:37Speaker 2: just it's it's just the kryptonite writers. Yeah, it's just
- 52:43Speaker 2: from a storytelling point, it's whatever you need it to
- 52:47Speaker 2: be for whatever. You know. It's always been treated different.
- 52:50Speaker 2: I mean in Superman Returns, he had a chunk of
- 52:53Speaker 2: kryptonite in his in his gut, in his side, and
- 52:56Speaker 2: he was able to lift a mountain of what ryptonite
- 53:00Speaker 2: into orbit, you know, so they've never been really consistent.
- 53:03Speaker 2: In Smallville, if he just has a piece in his palm,
- 53:07Speaker 2: he's out for the count. You know, it affects him
- 53:10Speaker 2: immediately and there's there's no overcoming it. So in some
- 53:14Speaker 2: storylines it seems like he can will himself to stand
- 53:16Speaker 2: up and get rid of it, and other storylines he's
- 53:19Speaker 2: he's done done for. So it's just that's why they've
- 53:21Speaker 2: always had a problem with Kryptonite and Superman and going
- 53:25Speaker 2: back and forth. It's inconsistent, and it's it's hard to
- 53:30Speaker 2: do a story without Kryptonite because you know, how do
- 53:34Speaker 2: you do a story about a man who's literally a
- 53:37Speaker 2: billion times stronger than the average human, who has no
- 53:41Speaker 2: other weaknesses, and we haven't introduced magic into these stories yet.
- 53:44Speaker 2: But yeah, I have a thought about what they might
- 53:48Speaker 2: do for the next movie. We mentioned Argo and when
- 53:52Speaker 2: when when the city came up, I'm like, oh, there's
- 53:55Speaker 2: I was watching the movie. I'm like, yeah, there's a
- 53:57Speaker 2: city that is saved Krypton. And then I'm like Candor
- 54:03Speaker 2: and I'm like, no, that's Candor, and they mentioned that
- 54:06Speaker 2: they mentioned the name of the city before I could
- 54:07Speaker 2: come up with Argo. I'm like, yeah, there's our going
- 54:09Speaker 2: then this Candor, which is the two at least most
- 54:11Speaker 2: popular cities that are saved from from Krypton's destruction. But
- 54:15Speaker 2: I think since they did ourg in this movie, uh,
- 54:19Speaker 2: the next movie is going to be about Brainiac. Brainiac
- 54:22Speaker 2: is the main antagonist as far as I've read, Well,
- 54:24Speaker 2: Brainiac is the is the guy who down Candle. Yeah
- 54:33Speaker 2: and before it was destroyed. So I think Candor is
- 54:36Speaker 2: going to be in the next movie.
- 54:38Speaker 1: Maybe maybe. Yeah. I I also had a problem with
- 54:44Speaker 1: like the green Kryptonite planet or the green uh sun
- 54:49Speaker 1: planet and how that weakened her, Like there's.
- 54:53Speaker 2: A green sundewe. Well it's not only that the planet
- 54:57Speaker 2: is has green sun. It's like the planet Tesla.
- 55:01Speaker 11: Yeah, well, The other thing too, is that they say, oh,
- 55:05Speaker 11: this is a dual sun planet, so there's a yellow
- 55:09Speaker 11: sun in a green sun, but they land in the
- 55:12Speaker 11: green sun area, Like why not just go land on
- 55:15Speaker 11: the yellow sun area, right, you're find.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the scene in Star Wars. We never saw
- 55:20Speaker 2: on tattooing, Yeah, the green side, I mean.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Deseree also pointed out that there are two different poisons. Yeah,
- 55:29Speaker 1: I know. But if they can burn it out of
- 55:33Speaker 1: their systems by just being in around yellow light, then
- 55:37Speaker 1: take the dog to the sun.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, take them to the sun and you'll be good.
- 55:42Speaker 1: You just needed a line of dialogue that says this
- 55:45Speaker 1: can't be burned out by yellow sun. That's all right, that's.
- 55:48Speaker 2: All Also, our Kryptonians, are they solar powered or is
- 55:52Speaker 2: it like do you remember the villain from Superman three,
- 55:58Speaker 2: the computer? No, that was Superman four. Superman four, you're right, okay,
- 56:05Speaker 2: So the villain from Superman four Sun guy, Yeah, he
- 56:11Speaker 2: was solar powered, Like when the sun went away, he
- 56:14Speaker 2: powered down. Okay, So how do Kryptonians work Because they
- 56:18Speaker 2: don't power down when it's dark out, but they can
- 56:21Speaker 2: only recharge in the sunlight. They always show that scene
- 56:25Speaker 2: with the music and they finally get the sunlight, like
- 56:28Speaker 2: in Superman Returns when he bursts through the clouds and
- 56:31Speaker 2: you hear the orchestral music and he's turning around and
- 56:34Speaker 2: getting that sunlight. But ye, I mean he's still super
- 56:39Speaker 2: at night. So how does that work? Is it like
- 56:41Speaker 2: an energy sell recharge? I think they talked about it
- 56:44Speaker 2: in Big Bank Theory, So yeah, I'm a little curious
- 56:47Speaker 2: about how that works and how quickly gets depleted.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that would be interesting.
- 56:54Speaker 2: And how the respiratory systems work in space? Yeah, yeah,
- 56:58Speaker 2: you know, do they or do they not? You know,
- 57:06Speaker 2: and it's different, like you know, when the writers are
- 57:08Speaker 2: asking that the powers would be, Hey, can Superman breathe
- 57:11Speaker 2: in the space if you need him to for that scene?
- 57:16Speaker 2: He can?
- 57:17Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 57:19Speaker 2: Does he suffocate in space if you need him to
- 57:21Speaker 2: for that scene? He does.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Well, there's a lot of those discussions. What's funny too,
- 57:28Speaker 1: is the way they they've written Superman for this new
- 57:32Speaker 1: universe is his family knew that he would get powers
- 57:36Speaker 1: in the yellow sun on Earth's yellow sun, right, Yes,
- 57:39Speaker 1: So why weren't all the Kryptonians trying to runt like
- 57:44Speaker 1: a planet with a yellow sun yeah, they clearly knew
- 57:48Speaker 1: what would be.
- 57:50Speaker 2: It seems like it's common knowledge, right, and we're I mean,
- 57:53Speaker 2: Krypton was a space faring.
- 57:57Speaker 1: Planets blowing up. I get yeah, I get like that. Okay,
- 58:00Speaker 1: the planet blew up like kind of instantly, but you
- 58:03Speaker 1: did have access to like lifeboats and things like that.
- 58:05Speaker 1: Like maybe not every Kryptonian, but you know, a hundred
- 58:08Speaker 1: of them.
- 58:09Speaker 2: Maybe it wasn't common knowledge. Maybe the government didn't want
- 58:11Speaker 2: it to be common knowledge because they didn't want like,
- 58:13Speaker 2: you know, riots at every spaceport.
- 58:17Speaker 1: It just takes one showing up after being turned on
- 58:20Speaker 1: with with Yellow Sun to show up and be like
- 58:22Speaker 1: here we go people, yep, ye you know, uh yeah,
- 58:29Speaker 1: so yeah.
- 58:30Speaker 2: Over did you when you walked out of the theater
- 58:32Speaker 2: where you were you pissed? Were you? Okay?
- 58:35Speaker 1: I walked out because I like the action scenes. I
- 58:38Speaker 1: think they did some pretty interesting action scenes. So, like
- 58:41Speaker 1: I was, I was charged up from that. And I
- 58:43Speaker 1: love Crypto. I think Crypto is a fun character. Oh
- 58:46Speaker 1: and I think I think, uh, what's Million Alcock? I
- 58:52Speaker 1: think she gets way too much grief for for Supergirl,
- 58:55Speaker 1: like she's I think she's great.
- 58:57Speaker 2: Honestly, I think she's for the way she's divisive. A
- 59:01Speaker 2: lot of people don't like her.
- 59:02Speaker 1: I like her, I think for for what they're doing
- 59:05Speaker 1: with the character. I think she portrays it well, you know.
- 59:10Speaker 1: I you don't want two super hopeful people like you know,
- 59:14Speaker 1: her and Clark are super like cheery and hopeful like
- 59:18Speaker 1: that just doesn't play well on screen. So you do
- 59:20Speaker 1: do you You do need the cynic but yeah, you
- 59:24Speaker 1: know you're also going to get that in Batman eventually,
- 59:26Speaker 1: So you need to find a balance with her. So
- 59:30Speaker 1: if if Batman is the cynic, Superman is the hopeful guy,
- 59:34Speaker 1: she could be more like the realists or or the
- 59:37Speaker 1: pragmatic one, you know. Yeah, yeah, So sometimes she sides
- 59:41Speaker 1: with Batman, sometimes she sides with Superman. You know, she's
- 59:46Speaker 1: like the tiebreaker.
- 59:47Speaker 2: Yep, you know, speaking of Superman too, he shows up.
- 59:51Speaker 2: He shows up in a couple scenes. H yeah, flashback scenes.
- 59:54Speaker 2: There's there's a cute scenes in the trailers where uh,
- 59:58Speaker 2: he sees her land and goes up to her and
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: she only speaks Kryptonian and he doesn't know Kryptonian, which
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: I found odd. I thought that Superman at this point
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: would have learned Kryptonian. You would think by now because
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: he has access to the Fortress of Solitude, which is
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: a Kryptonian thing, and so he has Kryptonian tech and
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Kryptonian communication and stuff like that. I would have thought
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: he would have learned Kryptonian. But anyways, and then there
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: was a scene at the end in real time that
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: wasn't a flashback where she comes back and he says,
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: he says something, He goes, I really could have used
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: you for this last like this last mission that used
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: your help for this last one. And I'm wondering what
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: he was talking about. I'm wondering what the timeframe was. Yeah,
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: you know, like it doesn't make sense to me that
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: this would take place after Man of Tomorrow. Yeah, that's
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: the next Superman movie coming out.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: I thought I was confirmed that she's going to be
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: in the movie too, though, in.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: The Man of Tomorrow. Yeah, okay, So I'd like to
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: know about the.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: What I was gonna say, I don't I don't think
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: she'll be like in it all the way through, but
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: maybe we'll get like the second half of that scene
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: in Man of Tomorrow.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, like she shows up. I'd like to know
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: about the mission that Clark was talking about. Yeah, so
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: obviously something went on, A big thing went on, and
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: maybe they'll talk about maybe there'll be a flashback scene,
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: you know, six months ago or last year, we had
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: to do this thing without Supergirl and here's what happened,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: you know. But i'd like to see that mission that
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: happens between Superman and Man of Tomorrow.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't think we'll be getting a Supergirl too,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: but but I think she could be a fun side character. Yeah,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: you know, she would like For some reason, I keep
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: thinking she would be fun in a Teen Titans movie.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Oh yeah, absolutely. Yeah. I saw somebody say on line
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: it might have been one of our groups or something. Uh,
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: because a lot, you know, this new James Gunn era
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: and this new DC era, they had a lot riding
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: on on Supergirl and it's sort of failed. And they've
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: got another big DC project coming up next month, and
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: that is The Lanterns. And if I think even more so,
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: they're under more pressure now. Lanterns need success. Yeah, and
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: I'm very much looking forward to Green to the Lanterns.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: I'm a Green fan.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: I hope it turns out well.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: So I think it's very cool. Yeah. So, and I
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: like all the actors that they've got, you know, for
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: for the different for the different lanterns. So yeah, I
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: think I think it's gonna be.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we got people, so we got people already
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: xing up in the chat, so we should probably get
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: to listener feedback.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: So let's do it.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Listener feedback all right, before we get to those people waiting.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: For those of you who want to join oursts on
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: social media, we're all across social media at trek Cast
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: tn G. We're on Facebook, we're on YouTube, we're everywhere
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: in anywhere you can think about. Also, you can leave
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: us a voicemail. We have a voicemail line. That phone
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: number is five seven zero six six one zero zero
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: zero one. That's five seven zero six six one zero
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: zero zero one. We would love to play your voicemails
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: as well. But it looks like we have jaz Biz
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: on the line. Oh, we got Jacob too, so we
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: will do it one at a time. Let's bring in
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: Jazbi since he popped on first, and there he is.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: There's jazz Biz in the Celesti Temples temple.
- 1:04:02Speaker 12: That's right, yes, yes, what's going on?
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: Man?
- 1:04:12Speaker 9: Oh much?
- 1:04:13Speaker 13: How was your fourth of July weekends?
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Oh? Min mine was good.
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I went to a family barbecue and got tormented by
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: my nine year old niece.
- 1:04:22Speaker 13: Okay, everybody have all their fingers.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: Yep, I launched too, So yep, it's like, well maybe yeah,
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: yeah yeah. Last few years, my wife has been in
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: charge of getting the fireworks. She's got this uncanny knack
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: for picking out the right ones and getting the best deals.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: And like I said before, we spent an obscene amount
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: on fireworks this year, and and uh, you know, we
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: were just kind of talking about last next year. You know,
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: what do you want to do next year? And I
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: see that, like that that crazy spark in her eyes.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: She goes more.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: She's like, I want to.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: Get like double what we got. I'm like, okay, we're
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: gonna get the fire department out here.
- 1:05:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:05:06Speaker 13: You see, my brother in law, his buddy owns a
- 1:05:09Speaker 13: fireworks stand and so he gets met cost and I
- 1:05:13Speaker 13: don't know how many he got this year. He filled
- 1:05:15Speaker 13: up the whole truck with the biggest ones. And I
- 1:05:20Speaker 13: mean we popped so many that we burnt my wife's pants.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: So and she wasn't popping him. She was way out
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: of range. And uh yeah.
- 1:05:30Speaker 13: The ended of the party, there so.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: We were playing tricks on people, Like we had these
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: like little mighty things that we were kind of throwing
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: out in the middle and they would, you know, big boom.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: And then we also had these little round smoke balls,
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: and so we would light those and then throw them
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: at towards all the party goers. And the first time
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: we did it, everybody just started scattered, you know, because
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: they thought think it was gonna go off, and then it's.
- 1:05:58Speaker 13: Like poof some smoke nice like the little ones or
- 1:06:03Speaker 13: the big ones.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: What's that? The smoke ones on those?
- 1:06:07Speaker 13: Yeah, the smoke bombs, they.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: Were just little ones were you could round ones that
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: are colored right, but at night, you know, when it's dark,
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: it's all you can see is a fuse. Yes, people
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: were scrambling out of their chairs.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: That's yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:06:25Speaker 13: Those were the only ones my mom would let me
- 1:06:26Speaker 13: play with us, the smoke bombs, the snakes, and the sparklers.
- 1:06:29Speaker 13: And then here comes to my brother in law with
- 1:06:31Speaker 13: the yeah, the truckload of fireworks.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: I'm like, we're gonna we had. Yeah, I mean they
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: were legit, you know, some of them that what that
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: we that we sent up. I mean we had a
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: hundred just individual mortars you know that you sent up
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: and it's just one boom. But we had like two
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: or three boxes that would do like twelve or twenty
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: in a row. And then we had a grand finale
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: that you know, like a like a minute, you know,
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: you l like one fuse and it's just constantly sending
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: stuff up last a whole minute, and you're up close
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: to it. It looks just like a professional fireworks. Yeah,
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: and the amount of firepower is insane, Like there's no
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: reason somebody could make an I D out of these
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: things because they're explosive power. You can feel it. Yeah,
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: they should be.
- 1:07:22Speaker 13: Really driving in that truck with you know, because he
- 1:07:25Speaker 13: had boxes that I mean, I can't even have my
- 1:07:27Speaker 13: arms out how big they were. So one like took
- 1:07:29Speaker 13: three minutes off the whole thing.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:07:32Speaker 13: Because there's some many like little mortars all lined up.
- 1:07:35Speaker 13: I was like, man, you're gonna switch the on fire.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Did you end up watching any of these movies independent?
- 1:07:43Speaker 13: I actually watched The Patriot, So yeah, it's in the universe,
- 1:07:51Speaker 13: you know, yeah, corrector so basically mel Gibson becomes you know,
- 1:07:56Speaker 13: his lineage becomes president in the future, so I'm sure there's.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: A way we can make you connect it Independence Day
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: and then Pacific rim a trilogy of films.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Well, you can connect The Patriot with Star Trek. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: the main dad guy Patriot is what's his name? Was
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: the main bad British guy. It's Malfoy's dad. What's his face?
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, Jeremy.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: He was Captain of Discovery.
- 1:08:26Speaker 13: Yeah, and then where he's Oh, I can't say.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I've never seen The Patriot.
- 1:08:35Speaker 13: You know what's sunny.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: It's good.
- 1:08:37Speaker 13: I've only seen it once and that was what twenty
- 1:08:41Speaker 13: seven years ago when it first came out, and I've
- 1:08:43Speaker 13: never seen it.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: Heath Ledgers in it. Yeah, it's on my list.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Like I never saw The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: you know that one I really want to see. Yeah,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: I really want to see that one. I never saw it. Yeah,
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: but all.
- 1:08:57Speaker 13: Right, but yeah, I recommend watching The Patriots, Okay, And
- 1:09:01Speaker 13: I've seen Independent Stay too many times.
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: You know, I always I love that movie. You know,
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: it's yeah, it's always a good watch.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: He shows up on the TV and you'll stay on
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: it watch. Yeah, you know special effects after thirty years?
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Hold up?
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, that's true.
- 1:09:21Speaker 13: And you know, Jeff Goldbloom was amazing in the movie,
- 1:09:25Speaker 13: you know, yeah, and Will Smith made him a mega
- 1:09:29Speaker 13: star after that, like shot up to wherever until he
- 1:09:34Speaker 13: slapped his rock.
- 1:09:36Speaker 12: So yeah, and that's the same thing, is like, if
- 1:09:41Speaker 12: he didn't do that, we missed out on more movies
- 1:09:44Speaker 12: with Will Smith because he just won his oscar and
- 1:09:48Speaker 12: he would have done you know, many other things right now.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: So oh for sure, for sure because they having.
- 1:09:55Speaker 13: Another project because it's about to enter his you know, sixty,
- 1:10:01Speaker 13: like he's he's yeah, he's almost sixty.
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: So he's going to start playing that Morgan part of
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: his career where it's probably going to be a little
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: bit less action y and a little bit more wordy
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: and a little bit you know, it's like Morgan Freeman's
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: career right around.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Oh god when Glory when when they reboot the NCU,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: he's going to be the new Nick Fury.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Yeah, he would be a good one.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: Honestly, he would be a good one. Yeah.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: And he would be right at the right age for it,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: like he would be. It wouldn't be too bad. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: all right, Well we got Jacob waiting too. I don't
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: want to get forever. So yeah, it's okay. So yeah,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: we'll get to you next week. Yeah for sure. Yeah,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: because next week I got we got Prediction Show.
- 1:10:47Speaker 13: Oh yeah yeah yeah all right, thanks, yeah, thanks chess.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: All right, we got Jacob going to waiting, so let's
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: bring him on there he is, Hey Jacob, it was good.
- 1:11:01Speaker 9: Just doesn't bring a couple of coffee.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: You'll doing good, good, good good.
- 1:11:06Speaker 9: Yeah, it was it.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: Did you watch Independence Day?
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: Independence Day? Or Supergirl?
- 1:11:14Speaker 6: It's almost a tradition for me to watch Independence Day
- 1:11:16Speaker 6: every year.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Nice?
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: Nice and Supergirl. We watched the original eighty four Supergirl.
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: Couldn't make it half way through. Couldn't make it half
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: way through the movie.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a rough one one.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: I love Supergirl, but she.
- 1:11:33Speaker 9: Was the only thing about the movie. Yeah.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: What what's your favorite part about Independence Day?
- 1:11:41Speaker 7: Uh?
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: So many great parts. Probably towards the end when the
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: dad's like up yours and he saves the day.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, that's a good look.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: You know what I found funny about that just before that,
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: because they're asking for volunteers people, you know, pilots and
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: stuff like that, and he and he says, you know what,
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: Russell ca ser and after you know, crapped us, after
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Nomic started crapped us and whatever since and then he says,
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: and not a personal note, I'd just like to say
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: that ever since I was kidnapped by aliens, And when
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: he says kidnapped by aliens, everybody else around him is
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: like this crazy guy. Crazy guy, You literally have an
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: alien ship hovering above you. Yeah, he's not so crazy anymore.
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: So, right, shouldn't the white as soon as he got
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: into his fighter jet he should have said the bad
- 1:12:31Speaker 6: data click drinking.
- 1:12:33Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, oh.
- 1:12:39Speaker 6: I saw I saw that jage one only once once
- 1:12:42Speaker 6: was enough for me.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw it only once. Once was enough for me.
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: You're watch it somehow, like, yeah, it's like Star Star
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: Wars five. It's uh, you'd love to hate it, all right,
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: I'm telling you man, we're gonna review it next year.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: It just makes It's just good science.
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: It's just that it was around the same time Susie
- 1:13:07Speaker 6: Squad was coming out and Wilson had turned it down,
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: and he showed Suicide Squad, which I think did better
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: than Independence Day.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah. Financially, yes, critically.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: People that could have been like Robert Loja was in it.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Just before he died. Will Smith should have been in it.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: The boy and the Girl, the Will Smith's step son
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: in the movie, and then the President's daughter in the movie.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: They both grew up to be actors. They could have
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: done Independence Day two, but the studio said, h they're
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: not pretty enough either. One I.
- 1:13:45Speaker 6: Heard of the movie hadn't flopped. There was supposed to
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: be an idea for a third one. They should have
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: done a third one ten fifteen years ago when a
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: second one came.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: Yeah, And they did have a cool website back in
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: the day. Years ago. They had a really cool website
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: where you go to and it was basically a history
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: of what had happened in the twenty years between Independence
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: Day one and Independence Date two. The website made it
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: look like it was real life, like, you know, let's
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: honor Captain Hilller and his sacrifice, and let's look at
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: the real, real life history of how we've taken alien
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: tech and adapted it to ours.
- 1:14:22Speaker 9: And I'm glad Jeff in the second one.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh, Judd Hirst too. Yeah, there's there was a
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: lot of a lot of actors that came back for it.
- 1:14:34Speaker 9: I don't think said Jeff was in it.
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: I don't even think Jeff Goblin was acted since Independence
- 1:14:40Speaker 6: Day together?
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Oh together, No, I mean they've been in stuff, but
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: not together.
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: Yeah, they had some pretty cool chemistry together.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Yeah, they did the opposite characters, right.
- 1:14:55Speaker 9: I looked it up online. They actually were joking off scene.
- 1:14:58Speaker 9: They were all getting along break So I don't know
- 1:15:00Speaker 9: why they haven't come back.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: You know what if you were to read you grumpy
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: old men with them, that could be.
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: Oh dude, work it in Hollywood.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: You've got the best ideas. Yeah, now you want to
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: see that movie, don't you.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: I want to see that movie.
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: Yeah, An Independence Day, An Independence Day Star Trek crossover.
- 1:15:26Speaker 9: Since we already got data in there anyway.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: There you go, there you go, Oh my head, canyon,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: is that that doctor? Is the first Soon?
- 1:15:36Speaker 9: First Soon?

- 1:15:39Speaker 9: I actually thought that was his name at first.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean sure.
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: I actually had to re look it up. I actually
- 1:15:46Speaker 9: had to rebooking it up on Google a couple of

- 1:16:35Speaker 1: a couple of episodes of the of the show.
- 1:16:38Speaker 9: Yeah, an hour long each.
