- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to May the Review Be with You
- 0:05Speaker 1: with Nick Joe Joe.
- 0:07Speaker 2: And I'm Nick, and today we are talking about The
- 0:10Speaker 2: Mandalorian and Grogu, the newest installment in the Star Wars
- 0:15Speaker 2: film franchise, if you will, Mandalorian and Grogu. Obviously, we've
- 0:19Speaker 2: had three seasons on Disney Plus instead of a four season,
- 0:24Speaker 2: studio decided let's just make it a movie. And so
- 0:28Speaker 2: here we are just coming off of the premiere week,
- 0:33Speaker 2: if you will. So, Yeah, Joe thoughts concerns.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I don't really have any concerns. This is a delightful
- 0:43Speaker 1: little time. If anything, it almost feels too under ambitious
- 0:49Speaker 1: if you ask me. Yeah, Like I don't know. I
- 0:54Speaker 1: sure there are things that I could probably point out
- 0:56Speaker 1: in the film that like don't work very well or
- 0:59Speaker 1: maybe some like miss some things that like just don't
- 1:03Speaker 1: add up as to how certain characters know certain things.
- 1:06Speaker 1: But like, overall it works fine, And it just kind
- 1:10Speaker 1: of felt like we were watching one really long episode
- 1:12Speaker 1: of The Mandalorian.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you. There definitely felt like a longer
- 1:18Speaker 2: just like TV episode, but still very fun. I still
- 1:22Speaker 2: got the Star Wars feel. The cinematography was awesome. Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 2: I definitely felt like I was in the Star Wars
- 1:29Speaker 2: universe a little bit of nostalgia. I don't think the
- 1:33Speaker 2: movie over stated to welcome either, right. The runtime like
- 1:36Speaker 2: basically two hours, very very reasonable. Uh, very you know,
- 1:40Speaker 2: maybe the Star Wars movie we needed right now because
- 1:42Speaker 2: we haven't really had one in a while.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And yeah, like a low stake Star Wars film.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Low stake Star Wars film that's fun with characters we
- 1:49Speaker 2: already know, and to kind of maybe get slightly like
- 1:53Speaker 2: that spark again for films, you know, like and or
- 1:58Speaker 2: obviously TV series and started telling why really is really
- 2:01Speaker 2: awesome and probably the best thing they've done in a while.
- 2:04Speaker 2: This was just fun and story was fine, nothing crazy.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I didn't have any like huge glaring issues, right and
- 2:13Speaker 2: so yeah, but before we really get into the plot
- 2:17Speaker 2: in all of these stings, there is something that Joe
- 2:20Speaker 2: needs to do for us. It's his turn on this podcast.
- 2:24Speaker 2: We take in fifteen second summary, and Joe has the
- 2:29Speaker 2: has the luck here today to be able to summarize
- 2:31Speaker 2: this film in fifteen seconds for you, so before he
- 2:35Speaker 2: gets any time to gather his bearings when you do
- 2:38Speaker 2: the countdown here, So Joe has fifteen seconds to review
- 2:41Speaker 2: the Mandalorian and Grogu three two one go.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Mando and Grogu are doing freelance work for the Republic.
- 2:49Speaker 1: They end up doing a job in coordination with the
- 2:51Speaker 1: Huts to go get their cousin I believe, and he's
- 2:54Speaker 1: been kidnapped. But it turns out he's not been kidnapped.
- 2:56Speaker 1: The Huts want to kill him, so Amando and Grogu
- 2:58Speaker 1: trying to help him, and then they do and everyone lives.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I don't think you finished the plot or you didn't.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Did they killed the huts? Everyone lived happily ever after?
- 3:09Speaker 2: That was after the buzzer.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Well maybe maybe they killed the huts part so, uh,
- 3:15Speaker 1: B plus B plus B plus minus, I got through
- 3:19Speaker 1: the whole plot.
- 3:20Speaker 2: You did not give us the finale, And in a summary,
- 3:27Speaker 2: it's very important that you finished.
- 3:29Speaker 1: All right, what would you say? What would you say
- 3:31Speaker 1: the finale is? If it's not? They lived happily ever after?
- 3:35Speaker 2: No, Well, you just didn't get You told us everything,
- 3:38Speaker 2: but not before the buzzing.
- 3:41Speaker 1: This feels like you're being overly nuanced.
- 3:43Speaker 2: But all right, honestly, that was a pretty good summary. Uh,
- 3:50Speaker 2: but let's be minus.
- 3:52Speaker 1: We're just salty. I gave you a D on that
- 3:54Speaker 1: last one. I don't even remember, but where because a
- 3:57Speaker 1: terrible summary. So hit us with the long form, right,
- 4:04Speaker 1: all right, let's go back and forth on this one. So,
- 4:07Speaker 1: like I thought, I thought the construction of this narrative
- 4:10Speaker 1: was really interesting because like, overall, there's no big goal
- 4:16Speaker 1: of the film. Yes, you feel me, Like there's no
- 4:18Speaker 1: big goal of what we're trying to achieve. It's just
- 4:21Speaker 1: Grogu and like Mando just kind of like living their
- 4:24Speaker 1: life in the Star Wars universe, and like shenanigans will ensue,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and like I kind of dig that a little bit,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, like it's it's funny to have like a
- 4:33Speaker 1: low stakes Star Wars film because like when's the last
- 4:36Speaker 1: time we did solo? But like even that's like not
- 4:41Speaker 1: like crazy low stakes. Really at the end of the day,
- 4:46Speaker 1: like the biggest steak is, you know, can these two
- 4:48Speaker 1: characters continue to survive in this like very hard life
- 4:54Speaker 1: that they've chosen right to continue to be freelancers for
- 4:58Speaker 1: the Republic. But yeah, we get this really cool action
- 5:01Speaker 1: sequence in a ice planet. One thing I love about
- 5:06Speaker 1: Star Wars is that it never overly complicates the planets
- 5:09Speaker 1: that they're on. Whatever you see in the geography of
- 5:12Speaker 1: one planet, that's the whole planet. You know, it's just
- 5:15Speaker 1: it's just one big ice planet. That's fine. So, yeah,
- 5:19Speaker 1: we get this cool action sequence Mando's hunting down Empire
- 5:24Speaker 1: members of the Empire, of the of the Shattered Empire
- 5:27Speaker 1: really that we know are still alive because of well
- 5:31Speaker 1: Star Wars obviously they're still alive, but we know they're
- 5:34Speaker 1: still love because of the Mandos show and the Shadow Council.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And yeah, we get back to the planet after he's
- 5:43Speaker 1: completed the mission messy apparently. Yeah, and we get to
- 5:47Speaker 1: meet Sigourney Weaver, who's taken on a member a character
- 5:52Speaker 1: in the Republic. I guess it's cleaning up, Like her
- 5:55Speaker 1: job is to clean up the shattered remains of the Empire, right.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, essentially just sending different bounty hunters to like,
- 6:04Speaker 2: you know, collect dead or alive these remnants of the
- 6:09Speaker 2: Empire and commanders essentially that are like still around, right,
- 6:12Speaker 2: And this kind of brings us to what would be
- 6:16Speaker 2: the plot of the film, right or like the big
- 6:20Speaker 2: the bigger overarching goal, which is to find one identify
- 6:25Speaker 2: who Coin is. I forget his complete title. But there
- 6:32Speaker 2: is one member who they have not even been able
- 6:34Speaker 2: to identify from the following empire. And yeah, for all
- 6:39Speaker 2: intentsive purposes, his name is Coin, and so he the
- 6:45Speaker 2: Mandalorian and Groguor tasked with finding out the identity of Coin.
- 6:49Speaker 2: In order to do that, they have the New Republic
- 6:51Speaker 2: has made a deal with the Huts, who are you know,
- 6:55Speaker 2: running this criminal organization, And the Huts are going to
- 6:59Speaker 2: they want their our cousin back, who has fled essentially
- 7:05Speaker 2: and is missing, and they.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Tell him, they tell him that he's been kidnapped.
- 7:11Speaker 2: That's it. Yeah, so they say that he's been kidnapped,
- 7:13Speaker 2: and in order to for them to give the New
- 7:18Speaker 2: Republic the identity of this Coin character, Mandalorian has to
- 7:23Speaker 2: go and find their cousin Rada the hunt And that's
- 7:29Speaker 2: kind of where the main plot of the film picks up, right.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Mando goes to the Huts, gets the information about where
- 7:38Speaker 2: to find Rada, and then goes to this planet Ardinian
- 7:43Speaker 2: I believe is what it's called, and and and yeah,
- 7:48Speaker 2: that's where we kind of kick off.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, everything that I said was basically prologue at
- 7:54Speaker 1: this point. This is kind of where the movie starts.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And what I do enjoy about this, Nick is how
- 8:00Speaker 1: was segmented. This film is like very clearly segmented. And
- 8:04Speaker 1: that's why I said, like, it kind of feels like
- 8:06Speaker 1: this belongs in the show, because it feels like we
- 8:08Speaker 1: were watching like different episodes that were just kind of
- 8:10Speaker 1: being stitched together the way that like TV kind of
- 8:13Speaker 1: TV plots kind of inform, like the next episode, the
- 8:16Speaker 1: next episode, and then this happens. You know.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Well that makes sense too, because originally it was going
- 8:20Speaker 2: to be a fourth season, right, So I think a
- 8:22Speaker 2: lot of this was like had already been written and that.
- 8:27Speaker 1: There was originally intended to be a fourth season.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah, originally supposed to be a fourth season. So then
- 8:32Speaker 2: Disney shifted gears and decided that like they wanted to
- 8:34Speaker 2: make it a film instead, And so I think that's
- 8:38Speaker 2: part of the reason it feels this way, right, Like
- 8:40Speaker 2: a lot of this was supposed to be a show,
- 8:42Speaker 2: and so they were like, no, you know what, let's
- 8:44Speaker 2: make it a film. And it's cool. I think it
- 8:46Speaker 2: works as a film. It's fun, it's not you know again,
- 8:49Speaker 2: it's not your traditional high stakes Star Wars film maybe, right,
- 8:54Speaker 2: so something a little bit more lighthearted, but yeah, and
- 9:01Speaker 2: you know, Mandel goes. They meet and Ardinian is really
- 9:07Speaker 2: cool because they meet a couple of really fun characters
- 9:10Speaker 2: that I think are awesome conductions into the Star Wars universe.
- 9:13Speaker 1: The freaking the food vendor salesman who's played by Martin Scorsese.
- 9:19Speaker 2: You go is thee? Yeah, the vendors.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Wild.
- 9:24Speaker 2: So when the film opens and they they roll credits
- 9:27Speaker 2: right at the beginning with everyone's names, and then Martin
- 9:30Speaker 2: Scorsese pops up and it's not in the director area,
- 9:33Speaker 2: I was like, who the fuck is Martin Scorcese playing?
- 9:36Speaker 1: And I had the same thought. I was so surprised.
- 9:39Speaker 2: And then I was like, and then because his face
- 9:42Speaker 2: isn't in the movie, I completely like missed who he
- 9:45Speaker 2: was because I didn't recognize the voice when he goo
- 9:48Speaker 2: came on screen, And when afterwards I looked it up,
- 9:51Speaker 2: I was like, like, you goes one of the probably
- 9:54Speaker 2: my favorite, one of my favorite characters of the film.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I love characters like that. They're like, you know, they
- 10:01Speaker 2: helped move the plot a little bit because they have
- 10:03Speaker 2: special information, and they're they're like they're just fun, you know,
- 10:07Speaker 2: and yeah, what a great like a couple of scenes
- 10:11Speaker 2: we got with the with him, and it's one of
- 10:14Speaker 2: those characters where I feel like Star Wars fans fall
- 10:16Speaker 2: in love with that character right away, and you know,
- 10:19Speaker 2: at some point in the future would be cool if
- 10:21Speaker 2: we see him again.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he's also like a really practical person, right, Oh,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I don't want any part of this, Like I'm a
- 10:29Speaker 1: dad just trying to feed my kids. Like yeah, it's like, oh, yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 1: that's relatable. I get it. I wouldn't want to be
- 10:34Speaker 1: part of this either.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like, get out of here. But the other
- 10:39Speaker 2: thing that's cool is on this planet, we also get
- 10:42Speaker 2: to meet Rad of the Hut, who is the son
- 10:47Speaker 2: of Jaba the Hut Son.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah, son son of Jaba.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Son of Jaba Hut who obviously we all know who
- 10:53Speaker 2: Job of the Hut is. The funny part here, though,
- 10:56Speaker 2: is that he is not a overweight slob. He is
- 11:01Speaker 2: a absolute yoke. Has not missed upper body day ever.
- 11:08Speaker 2: He is absolutely yoked. He's got abs. Who knew anyone
- 11:12Speaker 2: in the Hut clan could have an ab let alone
- 11:15Speaker 2: seven an A dude is just one muscle he's got, Like, yeah,
- 11:22Speaker 2: he basically is just one giant ab like he's absolutely
- 11:25Speaker 2: ripped and he's an excellent fighter, And I thought that
- 11:31Speaker 2: was really cool, like change up to that particular family, right,
- 11:37Speaker 2: we learned that, you know, he just does not want
- 11:39Speaker 2: to be like his father. He doesn't want to be
- 11:41Speaker 2: a criminal overlord, and he essentially is like fighting for
- 11:44Speaker 2: his freedom. Has one more fight left on his contract
- 11:49Speaker 2: before we get into that. The other thing that happens
- 11:52Speaker 2: at the beginning of the film with the title cards
- 11:54Speaker 2: is we see Jeremy Allen White's name, Yeah, right, And
- 11:58Speaker 2: I was like, this is greaty Allen Whites in this
- 12:00Speaker 2: This is awesome. You don't see Jeremy Allen White at
- 12:03Speaker 2: all because he is playing Right of the Hut.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So very cool he actually playing. He actually plays two
- 12:09Speaker 1: characters in this movie. We'll get to the second one later.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Oh interesting.
- 12:13Speaker 1: It's a very small role that he has later, and
- 12:15Speaker 1: I kind of wish that they had expanded a lot
- 12:17Speaker 1: more on this character.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Man Okay, cool, Well I did. I don't know this,
- 12:20Speaker 2: so this is gonna be fun for later. But yeah,
- 12:22Speaker 2: so Right of the Hut there's one fight left in
- 12:24Speaker 2: this contract. Mandel meets him, Mano thinks there's something sketchy
- 12:28Speaker 2: going on. Uh and uh and yeah, he goes and
- 12:32Speaker 2: and meets with the I guess kind of like the
- 12:36Speaker 2: governor of this of this city or or this world
- 12:40Speaker 2: to try to like buy out right of the Hut
- 12:43Speaker 2: from his last fight. And this is when we find
- 12:45Speaker 2: out that the governor here, I forget his name. He
- 12:52Speaker 2: ends up being the Empire coin guy that we're looking for,
- 12:55Speaker 2: but he has a different name in this in this instance.
- 12:57Speaker 2: But yeah, he has no intent to let Rada out
- 13:02Speaker 2: of his contract, and he intends to just like keep
- 13:05Speaker 2: throwing fighters at him until he dies to make a
- 13:08Speaker 2: bunch of money.
- 13:10Speaker 1: That's clay. Yeah, So I do want to bring this
- 13:17Speaker 1: up now rather than later, because I feel like anyone
- 13:21Speaker 1: who is a Star Wars fan yea, and we haven't
- 13:26Speaker 1: addressed this yet may have already been like, oh, they
- 13:28Speaker 1: don't know. So something I really enjoy about the Hut
- 13:34Speaker 1: plot line here is this is the first time we've
- 13:38Speaker 1: met these characters on the silver screen, right, And well,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I guess that's not technically true in live action. It's
- 13:44Speaker 1: the first time we've met them in live action, but
- 13:46Speaker 1: we've actually met them before, which is a really cool
- 13:50Speaker 1: throwback to Star Wars at the Clone Wars. I believe
- 13:55Speaker 1: it's not the show. I believe it's the movie which
- 13:58Speaker 1: kicked off the show, which that's why I say, I
- 14:01Speaker 1: guess this is the second time we've seen this on
- 14:02Speaker 1: the silver screen, because that movie actually did premiere in
- 14:04Speaker 1: theaters like way long ago, and Rada actually says like
- 14:10Speaker 1: he actually refers to it. He was like, yeah, I
- 14:12Speaker 1: was kidnapped as a baby, and like it's funny. It
- 14:14Speaker 1: didn't click until he said that. For me, I was like,
- 14:16Speaker 1: oh my god, that's right. Like during like the time
- 14:19Speaker 1: of like Anakin and Ahsoka, we saw that happen. We
- 14:22Speaker 1: saw this hut baby get kidnapped, and we saw the
- 14:27Speaker 1: twins the first time that I believe the twins were
- 14:29Speaker 1: behind it. I don't really remember the plot of this,
- 14:33Speaker 1: but like I know the twins are involved, and like
- 14:35Speaker 1: they were the evil ones and Rada, who's referred to
- 14:38Speaker 1: as Stinky by Ahsoka. The whole like plot becomes like
- 14:43Speaker 1: try to rescue Rada or Stinky rather, So it's neat
- 14:50Speaker 1: that we get to actually see this plot line actually
- 14:52Speaker 1: like come full circle and follow through with like him
- 14:55Speaker 1: as an adult and like the twins and them still
- 14:58Speaker 1: trying to like connive and kill him. I once I
- 15:01Speaker 1: like made that connection, I was like, that's so cool
- 15:03Speaker 1: that they like returned back to that well to like
- 15:06Speaker 1: complete this history of this like of the legacy here
- 15:09Speaker 1: in Star Wars and like, you know, the the Hut drama.
- 15:13Speaker 1: So I really love them for like you know, taking
- 15:17Speaker 1: like colors that had already been like put on like
- 15:19Speaker 1: the palette and remembering to use them right. Well, that
- 15:23Speaker 1: was really neat, especially as you said, giving us kind
- 15:26Speaker 1: of a different iteration of a HUT. Rada is a
- 15:29Speaker 1: very instantly, very rememberable character.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, and obviously one that is really part of
- 15:37Speaker 2: the good good side, right, and.
- 15:38Speaker 1: So he's got a good art. He's good dude.
- 15:41Speaker 2: He's another one of those characters, i'd say him. Rada
- 15:43Speaker 2: and and Hugo are probably two characters that we've been
- 15:46Speaker 2: introduced to now that I would love to see again. Obviously.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I feel like Rada is probably the more likely at
- 15:52Speaker 2: some point, right because he's kind of doing he's kind
- 15:54Speaker 2: of joined the New Republic now and there's probably some
- 15:59Speaker 2: more opportunity where like he can come up right, Whereas
- 16:01Speaker 2: it feels like Hugo's probably just going to always be
- 16:04Speaker 2: on the Ardinian planet, and I don't know if Star
- 16:08Speaker 2: Wars is ever going to have a reason to go
- 16:09Speaker 2: back there, but but yeah, so really cool to get
- 16:13Speaker 2: some of those characters. And obviously the relationship between Mando
- 16:23Speaker 2: and Grogu is is a huge, a huge deal throughout
- 16:27Speaker 2: this movie, but obviously the franchise in general, I know,
- 16:33Speaker 2: in season was at season three, he officially adopts Grogu, right,
- 16:37Speaker 2: so he's like officially the father, which is which is awesome.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And you know, if I were to pick like a
- 16:44Speaker 1: theme for this movie, that like, and this is probably
- 16:49Speaker 1: the biggest critique I can make on this film, it
- 16:52Speaker 1: feels like this film was supposed to be more about that,
- 16:55Speaker 1: about like the ongoing developing pera ntial relationship between you know,
- 17:02Speaker 1: Mando did didn'jaring, right uh and Grogu, which, like, I
- 17:08Speaker 1: think there are parts of it there, and you know,
- 17:11Speaker 1: certain certain lines definitely evoke it, but overall, I'm not
- 17:15Speaker 1: sure if I like see it a whole lot. I
- 17:19Speaker 1: don't know, maybe you disagree.
- 17:21Speaker 2: No, I mean I get it, like it's not like
- 17:26Speaker 2: overly done, and so in many ways, they're also not
- 17:32Speaker 2: like really father and son. They're also just like teammates, right,
- 17:37Speaker 2: and like.
- 17:38Speaker 1: See I get that way more. I get that their
- 17:40Speaker 1: teammates way more. And he's like trying to like help
- 17:43Speaker 1: Grogu become like it's you know, more of a.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Jedi paddle on vibes than it is father and son father.
- 17:52Speaker 2: At many points, I thought it was cool that we
- 17:58Speaker 2: got to see Grogu like do everything possible to try
- 18:02Speaker 2: to save him towards the end there that whole.
- 18:05Speaker 1: We'll get to that segment. That whole segment is so
- 18:08Speaker 1: funny and it's just adorable and great.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and the Grogu character is really fun, right, and like, uh,
- 18:15Speaker 2: you know, we don't get like it's such a big
- 18:18Speaker 2: lift in many ways to do a character like that, right,
- 18:21Speaker 2: because like it's it's full on animatronics, puppetry and some
- 18:25Speaker 2: like augmented visual effects. So and then you have to
- 18:29Speaker 2: like do that for the whole film, not just pieces right,
- 18:32Speaker 2: pretty much the whole film. And then you've also as
- 18:35Speaker 2: an actor, have to like interact properly, right And now
- 18:38Speaker 2: granted Mando's got a helmet on for most of the film, right,
- 18:42Speaker 2: so that I think helps with kind of like you're
- 18:46Speaker 2: really just acting with body language, and then obviously grog
- 18:50Speaker 2: is gonna have some animatronicness to him as far as
- 18:54Speaker 2: some expressions and things like that. But really, honestly, it's
- 19:00Speaker 2: kind of impressive and something that like obviously Star Wars
- 19:03Speaker 2: is known for, and really Star Wars does it better
- 19:06Speaker 2: than anyone, So very cool.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I will say, like I kind of wish we had
- 19:13Speaker 1: seen a bit more of I think we get like
- 19:16Speaker 1: maybe Grogu, as you said, like this is hard to
- 19:20Speaker 1: pull off, especially for a puppet that does not talk. Really,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I think we get him being a son and loving
- 19:27Speaker 1: a father. I don't think I necessarily get like in
- 19:31Speaker 1: this movie. I think I've seen it better in other
- 19:33Speaker 1: seasons of Mando. I don't think I necessarily get Mando
- 19:37Speaker 1: seeing him as a son, you know, definitely somebody cares about.
- 19:40Speaker 1: But I don't get the sun aspect there. But you know,
- 19:45Speaker 1: maybe I'm missing something.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Well, you know, and to that point, like, I think
- 19:50Speaker 2: the reason for that is because Mando's the one who
- 19:53Speaker 2: gets captured, so then grogu'st got more of the arc
- 20:00Speaker 2: of oh, my father's been taken. I have to save
- 20:02Speaker 2: him or go get him, whereas Grogu doesn't really go
- 20:06Speaker 2: missing during this, right, he's always kind of the one
- 20:12Speaker 2: doing the searching, at least in the back half of
- 20:14Speaker 2: the film. So maybe that's part of the reason you
- 20:17Speaker 2: feel that way.
- 20:19Speaker 1: It definitely is because, like I would say, like one
- 20:23Speaker 1: time that I immediately think of where like they had
- 20:25Speaker 1: an opportunity to really capitalize on that is toward the
- 20:28Speaker 1: end where the Huts threaten Grogu, right that they tell
- 20:33Speaker 1: Din like, hey, you know, like imagine like you're your
- 20:37Speaker 1: green boy, Like imagine like we take him and kill
- 20:40Speaker 1: him whatever it is, whatever the threat was, right, like,
- 20:44Speaker 1: didn't I think like rarely do we see him get
- 20:46Speaker 1: like emotional, like like actually like lose his composure. I
- 20:50Speaker 1: think this actually would have been a great film to
- 20:51Speaker 1: have seen that happen, right, for him to like actually
- 20:55Speaker 1: like as like his like kind of like a return
- 20:57Speaker 1: to an Empire moment when Vaders like baited or is
- 21:00Speaker 1: it note sorry, return to the Jedi when Vader and
- 21:03Speaker 1: the Emperor baiting Luke and then Luke like loses it.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Like there's so many awesome moments in this film that
- 21:10Speaker 1: are evocative of Return of the Jedi, and that could
- 21:14Speaker 1: have been another really cool callback evocative of that film.
- 21:18Speaker 1: But could should have.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great call out. When they said that
- 21:22Speaker 2: and the Hut said that, I was like, Oh, is
- 21:23Speaker 2: he like gonna lose his shit? And he doesn't, And
- 21:25Speaker 2: I'm like, is it just because he's supposed to be
- 21:27Speaker 2: common cool at all times as like a Mandalorian, But
- 21:30Speaker 2: like they've established enough of a relationship that's also very
- 21:34Speaker 2: different from most Mandalorians and having like a son, So
- 21:38Speaker 2: they could have definitely gone there, and they did not
- 21:41Speaker 2: for whatever reason. But yeah, it's a good call out.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I had the same thought like in the moment, and
- 21:45Speaker 2: then it kind of just disappears because nothingles.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Itzzles fast, yeah, which then we immediately go into a
- 21:53Speaker 1: return of the Jedi moment, but a different one. But anyway,
- 21:58Speaker 1: I've way jumped the gun here because we were talking
- 22:01Speaker 1: about Rada and as as you had pointed out, he
- 22:04Speaker 1: was one fight away from having his contract completed. They
- 22:08Speaker 1: get this great conversation between Mando, Grogu and Rata in
- 22:12Speaker 1: the gladiator cells I'm gonna call them, uh, And this
- 22:15Speaker 1: is where we find out Rod is a pretty pretty
- 22:17Speaker 1: chill dude. He gets an instant relationship with Grogu for
- 22:20Speaker 1: feeding him Grogu' is a lot like Monkey de Loofy.
- 22:23Speaker 1: If you feed him, he's like instantly, like I love
- 22:25Speaker 1: this guy. This guy rules like instant trust.
- 22:29Speaker 2: You heard it here first guys, Monkey d Loofy, Grogu
- 22:34Speaker 2: very similar characters.
- 22:35Speaker 1: But probably get along great. They probably really dig each other.
- 22:38Speaker 1: They have similar vibes.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Would grog be a member of the straw Hack Crew?
- 22:44Speaker 2: I wonder?
- 22:44Speaker 1: Hmmm, oh they would, They would, They would lay their
- 22:48Speaker 1: lives down for him, like instantly, he'd be Chopper number two.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Listen, there's only there's only room for one chopper s
- 22:56Speaker 2: character on the Let's move on.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Yeah, so we move on to is it John? Who?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Is that the character? Who? Okay? Cool? So they meet
- 23:08Speaker 1: John Whu who had the contract. Johnny's pretty shady guy.
- 23:12Speaker 1: This is where we find out this is the well
- 23:15Speaker 1: I know, I actually I've jumped the gun again because
- 23:17Speaker 1: Rada tells us that he doesn't want to go with Mando.
- 23:21Speaker 1: He doesn't want me free. He's about to be free,
- 23:22Speaker 1: and he's like, hey, my my aunt and uncle they're
- 23:27Speaker 1: trying to kill me, Like they're trying to kill me
- 23:30Speaker 1: because they think that like I'm gonna become like the
- 23:32Speaker 1: new heir to the hut throne, and like, I don't
- 23:35Speaker 1: want anything to do with that. I want nothing to
- 23:37Speaker 1: do with my dad. I love the fact that people
- 23:39Speaker 1: see me differently than him. Cool character arc like this guy.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Instantly Mando is like, all right, sorry you feel that way, bro,
- 23:51Speaker 1: I got a I got a job to do, which
- 23:53Speaker 1: is how we get to Johnny, right, Johnny's pretty shady.
- 23:56Speaker 1: This is when we find out that this is our
- 23:59Speaker 1: active betrayal where he's actually staging the last fight. So
- 24:04Speaker 1: Rada is going to die in an endless onslaught.
- 24:07Speaker 2: We're not gonna lie.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Sounds it's pretty cool, sounds like awesome editaryment. Too bad.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I like this guy. So this becomes a mission of
- 24:18Speaker 1: a Mando's gonna bust Rata out. Rada doesn't buy what
- 24:22Speaker 1: Mando tells him, and this gets Mando caught, and now
- 24:27Speaker 1: he is one of the gladiators that must fight Rada
- 24:30Speaker 1: in the coliseum.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and obviously from here a big fight ensues. Just
- 24:37Speaker 2: like Johno had said previously to Mando, there are a
- 24:41Speaker 2: ton of other creatures and fighters that are being brought
- 24:45Speaker 2: in the ring.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Go ahead, I need to jump in here. This is
- 24:49Speaker 1: I have two things about this film that I love.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I love so much. The first thing is the amount
- 24:55Speaker 1: of monsters have in this film, so many monsters. For me,
- 25:00Speaker 1: like this felt like old Star Wars all of the sudden,
- 25:04Speaker 1: you know, like because I instantly think of like a
- 25:06Speaker 1: New Hope. I think of a Return of the Jedi
- 25:08Speaker 1: right where we meet all these like strange and weird
- 25:11Speaker 1: looking creatures. I think of like Attack of the Clones
- 25:14Speaker 1: right where they're in the colosseum pits, right where they're
- 25:17Speaker 1: in the slave pits, where they're meeting all these monsters, right,
- 25:20Speaker 1: And that's so imaginative and fun and awesome, and they're
- 25:24Speaker 1: so gross looking. Some of them are so cool looking. Ah,
- 25:27Speaker 1: I love that. I love like how big the galaxy
- 25:29Speaker 1: feels when they do stuff like that.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's great call out insane and it just super
- 25:36Speaker 2: well done. Yeah those are great callbacks too, right to
- 25:40Speaker 2: some O G. Star Wars stuff. And yeah, so they're
- 25:44Speaker 2: fighting and then eventually like there's this like barrier around
- 25:50Speaker 2: this colosseum to protect all the spectators that gets like shattered,
- 25:53Speaker 2: and then from there all hell breaks loose and basically
- 25:56Speaker 2: all the monsters get free and start just killing the
- 25:58Speaker 2: people who are watching the absolute nightmare scenario, if you
- 26:02Speaker 2: are like running this gladiator ring, like right, ry.
- 26:06Speaker 1: It is very clear that Johnyu's organization does not have
- 26:09Speaker 1: an agent for quality control, Like no one is in
- 26:11Speaker 1: quality control because like someone could have flagged the electrical
- 26:15Speaker 1: monster represents a risk to the electrical barrier.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely horrendous quality control. But what could you
- 26:23Speaker 2: what could you expect from a from a planet that
- 26:26Speaker 2: has salt as a currency, So.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Bro it looked like good salt, It looked like great salt.
- 26:31Speaker 2: It did look like great salt. So all hell breaks loose,
- 26:37Speaker 2: they get free and rather than like Rada still obviously
- 26:43Speaker 2: does not want to go with with Mando, even after
- 26:46Speaker 2: knowing that he betrays him. Yeah, he was set up.
- 26:51Speaker 2: So Mando and Grogu end up having to like capture
- 26:54Speaker 2: him right and and and get him out of there, and.
- 26:57Speaker 1: In a chase scene that feels very reminnute into attack
- 27:01Speaker 1: of the clones.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and they get him. They're on mandoship heading back
- 27:08Speaker 2: to well, they're on the way to the huts, right
- 27:12Speaker 2: because he needs to turn him into the huts to
- 27:13Speaker 2: find out who the coin guy is. And during this,
- 27:17Speaker 2: because these characters have already built a relationship. Mando and
- 27:20Speaker 2: Roda are having like a conversation on mandoship right, right,
- 27:24Speaker 2: is also he's not a criminal, so he's not like
- 27:28Speaker 2: doing anything sketchy to try to get away while on
- 27:31Speaker 2: the ship. Obviously really he really couldn't anyway. But they're
- 27:35Speaker 2: having a conversation and we find out that rod is
- 27:38Speaker 2: claiming that Johnny was actually the coin guy that Mando
- 27:41Speaker 2: has been looking for. And obviously there's a little bit
- 27:47Speaker 2: of pause on Mandal's part, like is he just telling
- 27:52Speaker 2: me this or is he telling me the truth? And
- 27:54Speaker 2: I think the movie does a good job establishing like
- 27:56Speaker 2: Roda's intent as like a good person, and so we
- 28:01Speaker 2: pretty much believe quickly, and so does Mando that wrought
- 28:05Speaker 2: his tone in the truth. And it's this moment that
- 28:11Speaker 2: you realize, like, Okay, the real plot is we're going
- 28:14Speaker 2: back to Ardinian to find john U Coin and he's
- 28:17Speaker 2: like the main guy that we're looking for, right, And
- 28:19Speaker 2: so this is where it kind of starts to feel.
- 28:22Speaker 2: You start to realize, like the state, it's not like
- 28:24Speaker 2: a traditional high stake stars film, right, You're like, oh,
- 28:28Speaker 2: we're just going to go back to get this John
- 28:31Speaker 2: Neu guy. This is like the main point of the
- 28:33Speaker 2: film kind of.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Which until until it isn't right right until it is
- 28:40Speaker 3: because he gets captured very quickly and easily pretty much.
- 28:44Speaker 3: And so the problem really then stems from the Huts
- 28:48Speaker 3: realizing that Mando has the like double crossed them essentially
- 28:52Speaker 3: even though they're the ones who were doing the double
- 28:54Speaker 3: crossing first. So uh yeah, and then it kind of
- 28:59Speaker 3: picks up and then this next part where I'll let
- 29:02Speaker 3: you take it away.
- 29:02Speaker 1: But yeah, so mission success. Oh yeah, we haven't really
- 29:07Speaker 1: talked about this, and any Star Wars Rebels fans that
- 29:11Speaker 1: listen to this might bad for not bringing this up earlier.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Zeb is acting as a co pilot for Mando, which
- 29:20Speaker 1: I believe. This completes all of the Star Wars Rebels
- 29:26Speaker 1: ghost crew members that have been seen since Star Wars Rebels,
- 29:30Speaker 1: with I think most of them appearing in the Ahsoka show.
- 29:34Speaker 1: I think the only stand out, if I recall, the
- 29:36Speaker 1: only standout that we didn't see is Zeb and here
- 29:40Speaker 1: he was played by Steve Blum once again, which always
- 29:43Speaker 1: great to hear Steve Blum's voice. And I thought that
- 29:47Speaker 1: Zeb was gonna have a much bigger role in this
- 29:49Speaker 1: movie other than just being like the co pilot. But yeah, right,
- 29:54Speaker 1: cool cameo. I guess AnyWho? Yeah, zeb Mando and and
- 30:01Speaker 1: I believe Yeah, Rada's with them. Rada and Grogugu. They
- 30:05Speaker 1: head back to the rebel the Republic, and this is
- 30:09Speaker 1: where we get some friction from Sigourney Weaver's character, who's
- 30:13Speaker 1: like a little miffed. It's like you kind of skipped
- 30:16Speaker 1: the part where you're supposed to bring the nephew back
- 30:19Speaker 1: to the huts. But good job. So he decides man decides, hey,
- 30:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna take some time off because like this has
- 30:32Speaker 1: been too much, And Sigourney Weavers like, you should do that. Well,
- 30:37Speaker 1: I clean up your mess, you should go do that.
- 30:40Speaker 1: She's a lot nicer about it, but anyway, that kind
- 30:42Speaker 1: of came up to me where she was just like
- 30:43Speaker 1: in pr She's like, yes, that's a lovely idea. He
- 30:47Speaker 1: goes back to his planet with Grogu and Rada. He's
- 30:51Speaker 1: organized transport for Rata to be taken to safety, away
- 30:56Speaker 1: from the huts where they're not going to pursue him.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Boy does that backfire fast. And it's not even clear
- 31:01Speaker 1: exactly when that backfires, like was it the pilot on
- 31:05Speaker 1: the ship that was compromised? Unclear? Uh, like the ship
- 31:09Speaker 1: is just on the hot planet later with no explanation.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Well, it was so that was so left field that
- 31:15Speaker 2: when that ship was first seen, I was like, Oh,
- 31:17Speaker 2: this ship's been here for years.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I thought the same thing. I was like, that can't
- 31:20Speaker 1: be the same ship it's been there forever.
- 31:22Speaker 2: And then when Mano comes back to life, basically he's like, oh,
- 31:24Speaker 2: that's the ship that was carrying rod Out. I'm like,
- 31:27Speaker 2: what it's like?
- 31:30Speaker 1: Seriously, you know what, maybe maybe this is Star wars
- 31:34Speaker 1: first attempt at actual relativity and actual hard science, because
- 31:40Speaker 1: like time should work differently depending on where you are
- 31:43Speaker 1: in the universe or the galaxy as it were. It
- 31:45Speaker 1: should be a little different rather than being one to
- 31:48Speaker 1: one literally everywhere you go. But it to my knowledge
- 31:52Speaker 1: that it's never been explored before in Star Wars, and
- 31:54Speaker 1: it'd be weird if it started here.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Well no, I mean it can be one of the
- 31:57Speaker 2: one because they have light speed. They travel on light speed,
- 31:59Speaker 2: so like.
- 32:01Speaker 1: That's true. Well even if you travel on light speed though,
- 32:04Speaker 1: like there's still a dilation.
- 32:07Speaker 2: We're not going there.
- 32:09Speaker 1: You've seen Interstellar smarter men than us have tried to
- 32:13Speaker 1: explain the physics of Star Wars.
- 32:18Speaker 2: We are not.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I would love to hear someone actually explain that you're.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Not going to attempt that on this podcast.
- 32:23Speaker 1: No, No, that's that's way above my pay grade in anyway.
- 32:31Speaker 1: And moving on so on. On this planet, we say
- 32:36Speaker 1: goodbye to Ratta, but we know we do right away.
- 32:38Speaker 1: It's like, all right, well, there's still like at least
- 32:40Speaker 1: half a movie left, Like we'll see Rottag at some
- 32:42Speaker 1: point in this film. This is the one and only
- 32:47Speaker 1: time on this planet that we get to see my
- 32:51Speaker 1: favorite ship in all of Star Wars. Like I thought
- 32:56Speaker 1: as a kid, the Naboo Fighter was just the peak
- 33:02Speaker 1: of starship construction, you know, like the sleekest, coolest ship
- 33:08Speaker 1: ever designed in all of science fiction for me is
- 33:12Speaker 1: the Nabo Fighter. And I didn't think it could be
- 33:14Speaker 1: any cooler until Mando got his silver Naboo Fighter in
- 33:20Speaker 1: the show. And I freaking love that ship so much.
- 33:23Speaker 1: I thought it was awesome when he got it was
- 33:24Speaker 1: so hyped. I was such a fanboy when that happened,
- 33:27Speaker 1: And in this movie, I was a little bummed when
- 33:30Speaker 1: he kind of gets like a revamped version of his
- 33:33Speaker 1: old original ship, which is cool, like that's that's neat
- 33:35Speaker 1: cool return to home for him, it's for bounty hunter.
- 33:38Speaker 1: It makes more sense that he uses that, right, But
- 33:42Speaker 1: then we get to see the ship, and I thought, hey,
- 33:44Speaker 1: maybe this will come to be in the third act
- 33:46Speaker 1: of the movie. Nope, nope does ship is just a
- 33:49Speaker 1: cameo appearance, just hiding in the background. Like yeah, cool fun,
- 33:54Speaker 1: I guess there was.
- 33:55Speaker 2: They did have a cool like seen it at the
- 33:58Speaker 2: like towards the friend when he first got it, right,
- 34:02Speaker 2: But yeah, other than that, very disappointing that we didn't
- 34:07Speaker 2: get to see it. We didn't get to see it
- 34:09Speaker 2: after it had gotten it's like revamp like like made
- 34:12Speaker 2: lighter basically right right, which you you thought that's where
- 34:17Speaker 2: we were gonna go, right, They're all they're going to
- 34:18Speaker 2: fix the show and make it. They're gonna make it
- 34:20Speaker 2: like an incredible machine that's built for speed, and like
- 34:23Speaker 2: we're gonna get to see it maneuver even better. And no,
- 34:26Speaker 2: we didn't get We didn't get that.
- 34:28Speaker 1: We do get the return of the engineers from the
- 34:31Speaker 1: Mandu show, which like I was there with my partner
- 34:35Speaker 1: and like she loves Gurgu, but like I think she
- 34:37Speaker 1: forgot about these characters, and like the second that they
- 34:39Speaker 1: showed up and they called Grogu like horrible baby, like
- 34:42Speaker 1: instantly like remembered who they were, and she's like falling
- 34:45Speaker 1: in love with them all over again. Like they're such
- 34:48Speaker 1: a show like scene Steeler, every time they're around.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's awesome. Yeah, and where are we at? What
- 34:57Speaker 2: what's the.
- 34:58Speaker 1: We We get our confrontation with bounty hunter that the Huts.
- 35:02Speaker 1: The Huts do not mess around when it comes to revenge. Like,
- 35:06Speaker 1: oh my god, they were so fast at hiring at
- 35:09Speaker 1: a getting rat of themselves, right, and then b hiring
- 35:14Speaker 1: another bounty hunter to go track down the first bounty
- 35:19Speaker 1: hunter right, like it was like the next day, the
- 35:23Speaker 1: next day, maybe not even it was like that evening.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yeah, very quickly Mando gets captured. Rado is already there,
- 35:33Speaker 2: and yeah, we get another kind of callback scene, right
- 35:39Speaker 2: because Mando ends up going going into the pit basically
- 35:47Speaker 2: at the huts.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, when he gets kidnapp by the bounty hunter. Yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 1: this is the other return of the Jedi scene that
- 35:53Speaker 1: we were talking about.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Yeah, so he gets that down to this pit where
- 35:57Speaker 2: we get to see yet another insane monster, right, this
- 36:01Speaker 2: massive like see snake, whatever you want to call it.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Uh, and so they called it. They actually had a
- 36:08Speaker 1: name for it was the Dragon Snake.
- 36:09Speaker 2: The Dragon Snake.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we get this like insane fight scene that's really
- 36:17Speaker 2: more of like Mandal trying to stay alive and then
- 36:19Speaker 2: escape and simultaneously, Grogu and the the crew that have
- 36:27Speaker 2: that we're going to help fix Mando's ship are they've
- 36:33Speaker 2: come back to the planet to try to save him
- 36:35Speaker 2: and help him, and they figure out like a way
- 36:37Speaker 2: to get in the smallest ship ever. Yeah, this is
- 36:41Speaker 2: the funny part, right, Like I don't like, you don't
- 36:44Speaker 2: realize when they're traveling how small their ship is until yeah,
- 36:55Speaker 2: I was not thinking it. I was just like when
- 36:59Speaker 2: Mando gets there, I was like, oh wait when it's
- 37:03Speaker 2: like he's not going anywhere.
- 37:05Speaker 1: No, no, like I understand, like they're all engineers, they know, yeah,
- 37:10Speaker 1: maybe they always do. They were like, we're just going
- 37:11Speaker 1: to get That's something else that happened. One of one
- 37:14Speaker 1: of the four engineers was also kidnapped, so like maybe
- 37:17Speaker 1: they never had any attention of picking up Mando. They
- 37:21Speaker 1: were just like, we're just coming to get our boy
- 37:23Speaker 1: and like Mando can figure it out.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Yeah. And one other thing that's important to mention too
- 37:28Speaker 2: is Mando does get like stabbed or bitten by this
- 37:31Speaker 2: dragon snake, which you know is poisonous. So even though
- 37:37Speaker 2: he escapes, he one can't get on the ship that
- 37:41Speaker 2: Grogu and the crew came with because it's way too small,
- 37:45Speaker 2: So he tells them how to leave. Mando goes back
- 37:49Speaker 2: and like fights whoever's chasing after him and then collapses
- 37:53Speaker 2: basically right because the poison is starting to take over. Obviously,
- 37:56Speaker 2: we find out Grogu stays behind, and then we get
- 37:59Speaker 2: this whole sequence of like Grogu trying to like keep
- 38:03Speaker 2: him keep Mandal alive, but without really any tools.
- 38:07Speaker 1: He's gonna protect Papa.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Yeah, And so throughout this like montage really right, because
- 38:20Speaker 2: it's like over days, weeks maybe even that Grogu is
- 38:24Speaker 2: like fending for himself and Mando in the forest of
- 38:27Speaker 2: the Hut planet. He comes across a fisherman who lives
- 38:31Speaker 2: in near this pond in the forest, seemingly by himself
- 38:37Speaker 2: away from the Hut Empire, and he starts kind of
- 38:42Speaker 2: stealing food from him, and then the fisherman you know,
- 38:46Speaker 2: catches him basically, and they kind of have this like conversation.
- 38:53Speaker 2: We've really we find out the Fisherman's not like the
- 38:57Speaker 2: Hut and the huts and like the rest of these people, right,
- 39:00Speaker 2: He's kind of just very stoic, like living by himself,
- 39:04Speaker 2: enjoying the quiet, and much more of a reasonable human being.
- 39:09Speaker 2: And he gives Grogu this paste or medicine and tells
- 39:16Speaker 2: him to give it to his father, although it might
- 39:20Speaker 2: be too late.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I just want to bring this up, so this you
- 39:26Speaker 1: brought up Hugo earlier as like one of the characters,
- 39:29Speaker 1: one of the side characters that like instantly interested you.
- 39:33Speaker 1: This character instantly interested me to the point where like
- 39:37Speaker 1: I needed to go look up like what this character's
- 39:39Speaker 1: name was. Gatory. I thought that this character was like
- 39:43Speaker 1: so fascinating as just being like just this random guy
- 39:47Speaker 1: in the swamp, just like hanging out just like on
- 39:50Speaker 1: the outskirts of like the Hut territory, right, and like
- 39:52Speaker 1: totally aware of what they do. They're probably aware of him,
- 39:54Speaker 1: they seem to be, at least the bounty hunter is right,
- 39:57Speaker 1: and like they don't really mess with him because like
- 39:59Speaker 1: whatever doesn't matter to them. And like he's just like
- 40:03Speaker 1: that wise old figure hanging out in the swamp. And
- 40:06Speaker 1: for me, this felt like such a missed opportunity to
- 40:09Speaker 1: do some like Ei ei. There some very powerful referencing
- 40:15Speaker 1: to Empire when we first when Luke first meets Yoda,
- 40:19Speaker 1: right like kind of like a reverse of that right
- 40:22Speaker 1: where we have grogu remember if that same species obviously
- 40:25Speaker 1: in need of help and some wisdom and we meet
- 40:28Speaker 1: this guy. Right, as far as like references go, I
- 40:31Speaker 1: think that's like as far as you can really take it, right,
- 40:35Speaker 1: But man, I really wish that they could have done
- 40:37Speaker 1: more with it, or like we could have gotten something
- 40:39Speaker 1: more out of Gatory rather than just being like, hey,
- 40:42Speaker 1: remember that scene where your dad got poisoned. Here's the anidote,
- 40:47Speaker 1: Like it's almost all we get out of it. I
- 40:51Speaker 1: would have loved something a bit more emotional to accompany
- 40:54Speaker 1: that rather than just being like, here's the answer. Yeah.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I mean, I think that's definitely a product too of
- 41:00Speaker 2: it originally probably supposed to be a TV series, right,
- 41:03Speaker 2: Like that's much absolutely TV series situation, But I will
- 41:07Speaker 2: say that's.
- 41:08Speaker 1: That's its own episode, right, like, yeah, hey, these are
- 41:11Speaker 1: the ingredients you got to go like he puts them
- 41:12Speaker 1: on a quest to go find the rights for the
- 41:14Speaker 1: end of it, right.
- 41:15Speaker 2: But then like we get into a like but if
- 41:17Speaker 2: you do that in the movie, we get into a
- 41:18Speaker 2: problem of run time, right, And like, I think what
- 41:21Speaker 2: the movie does well is doesn't overstay. It's welcome as
- 41:24Speaker 2: far as the length goes. And so they took, you know,
- 41:28Speaker 2: they had to cut things, you know, from whatever they
- 41:30Speaker 2: had written I'm sure TV wise, right, and they had
- 41:32Speaker 2: to make sure it was condensed enough and still flowed.
- 41:35Speaker 2: And I actually I'm okay with them not doing more because,
- 41:39Speaker 2: like we said, this is really a low stakes movie
- 41:43Speaker 2: overall from a plot perspective, and I agree.
- 41:46Speaker 1: I agree. Here's here's where it's like a give and
- 41:49Speaker 1: take for me, right, the I think you could have
- 41:53Speaker 1: condensed the you know, Grogu and the engineer's breakout scene
- 41:58Speaker 1: in exchange for something more emotional rather with it, whether
- 42:01Speaker 1: it's with Grogu here, right, or maybe it's Din later, right.
- 42:06Speaker 1: But like, I just never feel like either of these
- 42:09Speaker 1: characters really gets like an emotional payoff anywhere. And I
- 42:13Speaker 1: think that's kind of like, I think you can do
- 42:15Speaker 1: a low stakes film right like this and still have
- 42:19Speaker 1: an emotional payoff, an emotional character journey, yeah for one
- 42:22Speaker 1: of them, and like neither of them really gets there.
- 42:25Speaker 1: So like I kind of wish like some scenes have
- 42:27Speaker 1: been condensed in exchanged for that, you know.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Well the problem there though is that like Manda
- 42:32Speaker 2: is traditionally like not an emotional character and so right.
- 42:37Speaker 1: But if there was a time, if there was a time,
- 42:40Speaker 1: it's when it's when a hug gangster threatens your lovely son, right.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean that's the point though, right, Like
- 42:49Speaker 2: that also didn't make him emotional, So I think, really,
- 42:51Speaker 2: maybe then the writers are really establishing that, like this
- 42:55Speaker 2: is not the character you're going to get it from.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Maybe that's them telling.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Us, like I think I agree with you? Do I
- 43:02Speaker 1: think that that's interesting? No, I don't think that's interesting.
- 43:06Speaker 1: We've seen three seasons of that already.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Right. Hey, again, it goes back to the whole movie
- 43:13Speaker 2: doesn't know where stakes welcome, low.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Stakes, fun, Star Wars film, probably the Star Wars film
- 43:20Speaker 3: we need.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Right now so that we're not like disappointed in what
- 43:24Speaker 2: they do, you know, I'm not disappointed.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Like it's it's a fun movie, it's super fun.
- 43:31Speaker 2: I don't know, I'm if it was like a more
- 43:34Speaker 2: high stakes film that tried to be too big, maybe
- 43:38Speaker 2: it would have led to everyone being disappointed. We haven't
- 43:40Speaker 2: had a Star Wars film in a while, so let's
- 43:41Speaker 2: give us something light and fun that we can just
- 43:44Speaker 2: like ease back into, like whatever the next rotation is
- 43:47Speaker 2: going to be for films in this universe. That's my thought.
- 43:51Speaker 1: You know what it is, you know what it is
- 43:53Speaker 1: for me, it's it's the fact that, like we've had
- 43:56Speaker 1: three seasons of these characters already, right, and if you're
- 43:59Speaker 1: gonna market a story into into the theater, I think
- 44:04Speaker 1: that in it of itself, right, kind of gives you
- 44:08Speaker 1: the idea this is going to be something bigger than
- 44:12Speaker 1: what we've seen. And I think, like, if you if
- 44:14Speaker 1: you don't want, you know, the stakes to be saved,
- 44:17Speaker 1: the world, to save the galaxy, right, like whatever, whatever, right,
- 44:19Speaker 1: fight dampire, I think that's fine, you don't, you don't
- 44:22Speaker 1: have to do that, right, but then you do have
- 44:25Speaker 1: to have that big payoff somewhere that that differentiates this
- 44:29Speaker 1: from like what we've seen already in seasons one through three,
- 44:33Speaker 1: and for me personally, and I'm sure, like, I mean,
- 44:35Speaker 1: that's kind of beauty and the horror of Star Wars fans. Right,
- 44:38Speaker 1: there are so many different kinds of us. For me personally,
- 44:42Speaker 1: I would have loved to have seen some kind of
- 44:44Speaker 1: like big emotional character journey kind of maybe maybe a
- 44:47Speaker 1: little bit bigger than what we saw in the end
- 44:49Speaker 1: of season two with like you know, the Luke Skywalker moment. Yeah,
- 44:52Speaker 1: where where they're saying goodbye to each other. That's devastating,
- 44:56Speaker 1: you know, Like, and that was on the TV show.
- 45:00Speaker 1: I'm not saying do that again, but like, give us,
- 45:01Speaker 1: give us something emotional to hang on to, you know
- 45:03Speaker 1: what I mean?
- 45:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Well.
- 45:09Speaker 1: They didn't. They didn't. They didn't. It's just a fun
- 45:13Speaker 1: Star Wars time. And I will give it that it is.
- 45:15Speaker 1: It is fun. It's a fun Star Wars time.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Yeah, agreed. And yeah, one other thing I want to mention.
- 45:22Speaker 2: We can go back to some of the actual plot
- 45:24Speaker 2: points or the ending if you want, but really quick.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Another thing that I really did enjoy was the score, right,
- 45:32Speaker 2: the composition of the film.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Remember I said that there were two things I loved
- 45:35Speaker 1: about this movie. There's just number two.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Oh my god, score is awesome. Ludwig Gordson does the
- 45:44Speaker 2: score he's done. I mean, you'll everyone will recognize him.
- 45:47Speaker 2: He's done a number of other things. First two Mando seasons,
- 45:50Speaker 2: helped with the third Creed, Black Panther, Sinners, Tenant Oppenheimer,
- 45:57Speaker 2: and upcoming he's done the composition for the Odyssey. So
- 46:01Speaker 2: that's really cool. I didn't know that cool. Yeah, And
- 46:05Speaker 2: he had such like a it's just so well done.
- 46:10Speaker 1: There were so many sequences that like you, I think
- 46:15Speaker 1: for a lot of films, not not lud not Ludwig's films,
- 46:18Speaker 1: for the record, a lot of films that he's not
- 46:19Speaker 1: part of. I think a lot of times I kind
- 46:22Speaker 1: of sleep on the score, dude. This score like gets
- 46:26Speaker 1: in your brain and just starts rattling around. It is
- 46:29Speaker 1: so the scene where the engineers and grogu are doing
- 46:33Speaker 1: the breakout from the sewer and you get like you
- 46:37Speaker 1: get the og Mando theme, but like it's mixed with
- 46:41Speaker 1: like these drums that are going like nuts in the sewer.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Like that was so cool. I love this score.
- 46:46Speaker 2: He did a great job with like sticking with the
- 46:48Speaker 2: themes of characters, but then like really changing and adding
- 46:53Speaker 2: some flair depending on what the scene was going on
- 46:55Speaker 2: right to your point. So so freaking cool, like might
- 46:59Speaker 2: actually have a buy. The soundtrack on vinyl is the
- 47:02Speaker 2: same thing. That's so much.
- 47:04Speaker 1: I loved it.
- 47:05Speaker 2: I don't do many soundtracks on line.
- 47:06Speaker 1: I never say that.
- 47:08Speaker 2: I know, I know, I don't do many soundtracks on vinyl.
- 47:10Speaker 2: But it's really that good. So that's that's that might
- 47:13Speaker 2: have to happen. But but yeah, that's really the last
- 47:16Speaker 2: thing I wanted to mention. For the film as a whole,
- 47:19Speaker 2: we don't have to go too deep into like the
- 47:22Speaker 2: extreme ending parts if we don't want to.
- 47:24Speaker 1: But just you know, the climax is just uh, you know.
- 47:28Speaker 1: We we face off with the Huts uh and their
- 47:31Speaker 1: bounty hunter. We get to see Rata be an absolute unit,
- 47:35Speaker 1: just yes, just taking on both of both his hands
- 47:38Speaker 1: and his uncle just eating the heck out of him. Yeah,
- 47:42Speaker 1: and then a very satisfying death, actually weirdly satisfying death
- 47:46Speaker 1: for both of them. Yeah, as they are terrified of
- 47:50Speaker 1: their dragons snake dragon snake yep.
- 47:52Speaker 2: A dead hut is a good hut unless his name
- 47:54Speaker 2: is Rata. That's what I always say.
- 47:57Speaker 1: That's yes, I leave. I have heard you say that
- 48:01Speaker 1: many times on this Star Wars podcast. Star Wars adjacent podcast.
- 48:06Speaker 2: Star Wars. Adjacent is the right word. It's awesome. Scores
- 48:12Speaker 2: you wanted to score? You want to score it?
- 48:14Speaker 1: H Yeah, so I believe we do movies out of five, right, Okay, cool,
- 48:22Speaker 1: like a like a three five or three seven. Yeah,
- 48:25Speaker 1: it's even crazy. But it's it's not bad. It doesn't offend. Yeah,
- 48:28Speaker 1: it's it's good. It's a good time. It's a good time.
- 48:31Speaker 1: I don't regret it.
- 48:31Speaker 2: I agree with you, like three seven is great. You know,
- 48:34Speaker 2: it's definitely worth watching it again. But like, it's probably
- 48:36Speaker 2: not something I'm going to be jumping at the bit
- 48:38Speaker 2: to watch it.
- 48:39Speaker 1: It has it has some issues, but honestly, the issues
- 48:42Speaker 1: aren't really worth thinking about. It's it's you know what
- 48:45Speaker 1: it is at the end of the day. At the
- 48:46Speaker 1: end of the day, it is a Saturday morning cartoon.
- 48:49Speaker 1: It's a good time.
- 48:50Speaker 2: That's it, and we will leave it at that. My friends,
- 48:55Speaker 2: if you like this episode, please throw us a like,
