Speaker 1: Hi everyone, It's Alex S. Garett, host of One Leg
• 0:08
Speaker 1: Up with Alex Garrett aka One Look Up. Alex. Excited
• 0:11
Speaker 1: to have you for a year thirteen of this podcast.
• 0:13
Speaker 1: We've gotten through twelve amazing years thanks to you. Here's
• 0:17
Speaker 1: to Lucky thirteen. All right, One Leg Up on the
• 0:21
Speaker 1: Big Game rolls into Saturday, and Luke Tamanella. We're recording
• 0:26
Speaker 1: this on Friday, but I want to air it on
• 0:28
Speaker 1: Saturday as the Super Bowl E preview. I don't think
• 0:32
Speaker 1: much will change between now and tomorrow. However, however, I'm
• 0:36
Speaker 1: gonna start out with this bold prediction.
• 0:37
Speaker 2: Okay, Louis, Alex, it's your it's your show, so you
• 0:43
Speaker 2: can sign it with the ball prediction.
• 0:45
Speaker 3: And thanks for having me as always, I appreciate it.
• 0:47
Speaker 1: You know that Drake May finishes the job and wins
• 0:50
Speaker 1: the Super Bowl this weekend is my thinking here.
• 0:54
Speaker 2: Very possible. I think it's going to be a close game.
• 0:59
  Speaker 2: I don't think it's gonna be a high scoring game.
• 1:02
Speaker 2: And if you're gonna make me make a pick, I
• 1:08
Speaker 2: lean towards Seattle. But uh yeah, I think this is
• 1:16
Speaker 2: the thing. I think New England has to play from
• 1:19
Speaker 2: ahead for them to win. I mean, I think Seattle
• 1:24
Speaker 2: has a better chance of coming from behind. Obviously we've
• 1:28
Speaker 2: seen that in big games with Seattle in the past month.
• 1:31
Speaker 1: Well, and their defense is ridiculous, like I saw them
• 1:34
Speaker 1: against the Niners. Both times it's just been it's and
• 1:36
Speaker 1: then of course the Rams, I mean, their defense is stellar.
• 1:40
Speaker 1: And of course you can't let that open opening kickoff
• 1:45
Speaker 1: end up being a touchdown again, you know, so you
• 1:47
Speaker 1: gotta stop that too.
• 1:49
Speaker 2: Well, Alex, you make a very very good point by
• 1:52
Speaker 2: bringing up the touchdown by Seattle and an opening kickoff.
• 1:56
Speaker 2: Uh in the playoffs now, I think that's where it's
• 2:02
Speaker 2: New England. If they want to win, I think they
• 2:06
Speaker 2: have to they have to rush for one hundred and
• 2:10
Speaker 2: twenty five yards as a team, get the lead and.
• 2:16
Speaker 3: Have them being chased by by Seattle.
• 2:21
Speaker 2: They gotta generate a pass rush they have a very
• 2:24
Speaker 2: good one, and force Seattle into making a turnover either
• 2:30
Speaker 2: deep in their territory which can give them a short
• 2:34
Speaker 2: field either a fumble an interception by Donald. I mean,
• 2:40
Speaker 2: I think that those are the ways they're going to win.
• 2:43
Speaker 2: Now they're coached by a terrific coach Rabel. We'll mix
• 2:48
Speaker 2: it up on defense. Hell, they'll be disguised looks, they'll
• 2:51
Speaker 2: do anything to disrupt the Seattle offense and create that turnover.
• 2:58
Speaker 2: But Seattle has a better roster from from top to bottom,
• 3:02
Speaker 2: and that doesn't mean they're gonna win. But the other
• 3:08
Speaker 2: thing is New England's defense. On first down, I can't
• 3:14
Speaker 2: give Seattle a five yard run, a four yard run
• 3:17
Speaker 2: or a four yard pass. They want seattleen second long
• 3:20
Speaker 2: and third and long, which will give them a better
• 3:22
Speaker 2: chance to get off the field and or to create
• 3:27
  Speaker 2: a turnover potentially.
• 3:30
Speaker 1: But the big players, we're gonna see a pass from
• 3:32
Speaker 1: the five ever again, I just don't see that happening,
• 3:35
Speaker 1: but you know, interesting it will be. Why did Drake
• 3:42
Speaker 1: may not get the MVP last night? It's very interesting
• 3:45
Speaker 1: that it was Matthew Stafford.
• 3:48
Speaker 2: Well, you can't deny Stafford was spectacular this year, and
• 3:52
Speaker 2: he's had a spectacular career. I think he only won
• 3:56
Speaker 2: by five votes, so it was a very close and
• 3:59
Speaker 2: be voting. You could have given it to either guy.
• 4:03
Speaker 2: Stafford had never won it before and he's had, in
• 4:06
Speaker 2: my opinion, an underrated Hall of Fame, superstar level career.
• 4:12
  Speaker 2: That's my opinion that I don't think he's gotten the
• 4:15
Speaker 2: credit that he deserves to and maybe this was his
• 4:18
Speaker 2: lifetime Achievement award. But he had a spectacular year. I
• 4:22
Speaker 2: mean he threw for over forty five touchdown passes. He
• 4:26
Speaker 2: plays in the toughest division in football. In my estimation,
• 4:29
Speaker 2: the best three teams in football all played in the
• 4:32
Speaker 2: same division, Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
• 4:36
Speaker 1: It's also very possible, as you say, he could be
• 4:38
Speaker 1: winding down in his career soon. I mean, he's older now,
• 4:40
  Speaker 1: and well, he.
• 4:42
Speaker 2: Did say last night when he received and accepted the
• 4:46
Speaker 2: MVP Trophy that he will be back next year, and
• 4:50
Speaker 2: coach McVeigh was very happy. So when they panned him
• 4:53
Speaker 2: in the stands, he was very happy, and he should be.
• 4:56
Speaker 2: I mean, the guy is a great quarterback with great
• 4:58
Speaker 2: weapons around him. He has better weapons than Drake may has.
• 5:04
Speaker 2: But you couldn't go wrong either way. I don't have
• 5:09
Speaker 2: a problem getting it to Stafford. If I had a vote,
• 5:13
Speaker 2: I would have voted for Stafford. But again, these things
• 5:18
Speaker 2: are so close. You could have voted for Josh Allen.
• 5:22
Speaker 2: Where would the Bills be? This was not a good
• 5:24
Speaker 2: Bills team. Without Josh Allen. They might have been six
• 5:28
  Speaker 2: and eleven.
• 5:29
Speaker 1: And you know what, Josh Allen wasn't even Josh Allen
• 5:31
Speaker 1: for some of the year either. He was he was,
• 5:34
Speaker 1: he wasn't one hundred percent. Now let me let me
• 5:39
Speaker 1: let me say this because we had texts. I said,
• 5:41
Speaker 1: you know, these are the two teams going up against
• 5:42
Speaker 1: each other. That's the best in the league. And he said, well,
• 5:45
Speaker 1: I actually in the NFC Championship game was the best
• 5:48
Speaker 1: in the league. So how do the Rams always stay
• 5:51
Speaker 1: consistent and yet under the radar, it's amazing to me.
• 5:55
Speaker 2: Well, sometimes Alex, we take consistency for granted, and that's
• 6:03
Speaker 2: maybe we're doing that in the Rams case. Yeah, they
• 6:06
Speaker 2: won the Super Bowl a couple of years ago. They're
• 6:07
Speaker 2: always good. They're good in the years where we think
• 6:11
Speaker 2: they're not going to be so good. They're coached by
• 6:14
Speaker 2: an excellent coach. But even excellent coaches make mistakes. In
• 6:19
Speaker 2: the game against Seattle in the NFC Championship game, they're
• 6:22
Speaker 2: up thirteen to ten with about a minute and a
• 6:25
Speaker 2: half to go, and instead of running out the clock
• 6:28
Speaker 2: and they were going to get the ball to start
• 6:29
Speaker 2: the third the third quarter coming out of halftime, they
• 6:34
Speaker 2: don't run out the clock. They give Donald and Sial's
• 6:38
Speaker 2: offense a chance to get back on the field, and
• 6:41
Speaker 2: Donald puts them ahead with about fifteen seconds to go
• 6:45
Speaker 2: in the half. So even great coaches make mistakes. Sean
• 6:51
Speaker 2: Tate made a huge mistake if trying to pull off
• 6:53
Speaker 2: a miracle against New England in the AFC Championship game.
• 6:57
Speaker 2: Up seven nothing, he has a quarterback who hadn't played
• 7:01
Speaker 2: in three years and fourth and one at to nineteen.
• 7:09
Speaker 2: You got to kick the field goal there And I
• 7:11
Speaker 2: don't care what anybody says, that's going to haunt Sean
• 7:15
Speaker 2: Payton all summer to go up ten to nothing. His
• 7:18
Speaker 2: defense was playing great, the weather got worse. They teams,
• 7:22
Speaker 2: both teams can move to football and the only reason
• 7:25
Speaker 2: New England's for the touchdown is because Jared Stidham made
• 7:28
Speaker 2: that poor back would pass which put them at the
• 7:32
Speaker 2: seven yard line. So pressure in this game coming up,
• 7:37
Speaker 2: and in the playoffs, but in this game coming up.
• 7:39
Speaker 2: Each time you advance to another round, the pressure gets greater.
• 7:45
Speaker 2: And I don't care how many times you've been there
• 7:47
Speaker 2: and how many times the coaches have coaching these games.
• 7:50
Speaker 2: The pressure's there. We don't know how Drake may or
• 7:53
Speaker 2: Donald is going to react on on Sunday night. We don't.
• 8:00
Speaker 2: And it's it's the team, the coach that keeps their
• 8:03
Speaker 2: poise coming out of the locker room and for those
• 8:06
Speaker 2: next three three and a half hours that's going to win. Concentration,
• 8:10
Speaker 2: lack of mistakes. There's pressure on all of the officials
• 8:15
Speaker 2: not to make that TICKI tag pass interference call. This
• 8:20
Speaker 2: is a different game. You go every every level you go,
• 8:24
Speaker 2: the pressure mounts mounts mounts, and the one who can
• 8:26
Speaker 2: handle that pressure it's gonna come out the winner. Now,
• 8:30
Speaker 2: getting back to Drake May, I'm sure at ten o'clock
• 8:33
Speaker 2: ten thirty on Sunday night, if they're giving him the
• 8:36
Speaker 2: Super Bowl MVP or just the Super Bowl Lombardi Trophy,
• 8:41
Speaker 2: he will he will forget about not winning the MVP
• 8:45
Speaker 2: for the entire year because in the second year and
• 8:49
Speaker 2: really his first full year as a starter or an
• 8:51
Speaker 2: accomplishment for a new England Patriot team that's starting ten
• 8:56
Speaker 2: free agents, Alex. They did a great job in free
• 8:59
Speaker 2: agency this offseason. They are starting ten free agents out
• 9:04
Speaker 2: of their starting twenty two. That means they hit on
• 9:06
Speaker 2: every one of them, and not many teams can say.
• 9:09
Speaker 1: That so, and one of them is actually a former
• 9:13
Speaker 1: Bill Stefan Diggs, and this is I feel like Diggs
• 9:18
Speaker 1: is meant for this moment. He's built for this moment.
• 9:20
Speaker 1: So I'll have to see. But I mean having his
• 9:23
Speaker 1: presence on the Patriots has changed everything in addition to
• 9:26
Speaker 1: may wouldn't you agree?
• 9:28
Speaker 2: Well, and the biggest change is Mike Rabel, that's for sure.
• 9:34
Speaker 2: To put it all together in one short year. Yes,
• 9:37
Speaker 2: the Patriots did not play a crazy schedule. They had
• 9:41
Speaker 2: the tenth, the sixth to the tenth softest schedule of
• 9:45
Speaker 2: any playoff team since the merger in nineteen seventy. Yeah,
• 9:49
Speaker 2: they got lucky against the Charges with their beat up offensive.
• 9:52
Speaker 3: Line, but they still won.
• 9:55
Speaker 2: Stroud was terrible against them in the next game in
• 9:59
Speaker 2: the Division A round, and then the AFC Championship game
• 10:02
Speaker 2: that got the biggest break of all, playing a Denver
• 10:06
Speaker 2: team that had no backup quarterback, which again, as I
• 10:09
Speaker 2: always said, you have to have two capable quarterbacks.
• 10:13
  Speaker 3: On your roster.
• 10:14
Speaker 2: You have to, and that's the only way if you're
• 10:17
Speaker 2: going to succeed. The backup is as important as a
• 10:20
Speaker 2: starter in many ways.
• 10:24
Speaker 1: Well, and by the way, it's being a backup. I'll
• 10:27
Speaker 1: tell you this, Tommy DeVito. You know it was a
• 10:32
Speaker 1: messy end with the Giants, but he's in line to
• 10:35
Speaker 1: get a ring. Former Jet, Sam Donald in the line
• 10:37
Speaker 1: to get a ring. I feel like I say it
• 10:40
Speaker 1: every year. Look how these guys go from New York
• 10:43
Speaker 1: and end up, you know, on a bigger stage.
• 10:48
Speaker 2: Donald a former Jet. But I'm hoping he wins and
• 10:52
Speaker 2: and he was. I mean, he's been with three other
• 10:55
Speaker 2: teams since he left the Jets. But Sunday Night, if this,
• 10:59
Speaker 2: if Donald wins the Super Bowl, and I hope he does.
• 11:05
Speaker 2: The team that's gnashing their teeth and made the biggest
• 11:08
Speaker 2: blunder is the Minnesota Vikings, which fired their general manager
• 11:15
Speaker 2: h this past week, and I'm sure the Donald situation
• 11:20
Speaker 2: is involved with that. But again, we all love Kevin
• 11:23
Speaker 2: McConnell as a coach, and Kevin McConnell made the decision
• 11:28
Speaker 2: to keep McCarthy and now he's gonna have to watch
• 11:31
Speaker 2: Sam Donald play Sunday Night, win or lose. You know,
• 11:36
Speaker 2: that was a mistake. That was the mistake is on
• 11:40
Speaker 2: the Vikings, not on the Jets, not on the Carolina Panthers,
• 11:43
Speaker 2: who we went to next it's on the Vikings, and
• 11:47
Speaker 2: if I was a Viking fan, I would not be
• 11:49
Speaker 2: very happy right now.
• 11:51
Speaker 1: I know this is the f you tour from Donald.
• 11:54
Speaker 1: I really believe like this is screw you to her,
• 11:56
Speaker 1: to both teams forgive me up on him, because look
• 11:58
Speaker 1: at where he's at now. And you know, the Seahawks
• 12:02
Speaker 1: are another team. I mean they acquired Cooper Cup and
• 12:05
  Speaker 1: I think that's been a big addition. And he's the
• 12:08
Speaker 1: Super Bowl you know, veteran, he's been here before. He
• 12:10
Speaker 1: won with the Rams.
• 12:11
Speaker 2: I think that he won Super Bowl MVP.
• 12:14
Speaker 1: I think he's the biggest edition in edition to Donald
• 12:17
Speaker 1: because you have that veteran presence. And we'll go from there.
• 12:20
Speaker 1: I mean, and McDonald was it McDonald the head coach.
• 12:24
Speaker 2: He's an excellent coach, absolutely and a player who has
• 12:31
Speaker 2: been great for Seattle, who was a very very good
• 12:34
Speaker 2: Giant and a very very good Jet The Jets picked
• 12:37
Speaker 2: them six overall and a rare Jet Giant trade a
• 12:41
Speaker 2: couple of years ago when they traded Leonard Williams number
• 12:45
Speaker 2: ninety nine to the Giants, I think was only their
• 12:51
Speaker 2: second trade ever between the two teams. And then the
• 12:54
Speaker 2: Giants trade him to Seattle a couple of years ago.
• 12:58
Speaker 2: He has a chance to uh, to be on that
• 13:02
Speaker 2: stage getting the super Bowl Trophy himself. And he's had
• 13:06
Speaker 2: an excellent career. And I've always been a Lendon Williams
• 13:09
  Speaker 2: fan always.
• 13:11
Speaker 1: You know that's another guy. Now what I feel like
• 13:15
  Speaker 1: it's a stupid question, But I do feel like there's
• 13:17
  Speaker 1: a lot of differences. I Mean, everyone's like, well, it's
• 13:19
Speaker 1: a rematch, but we all know it's not a rematch.
• 13:21
  Speaker 2: It's not a rematch.
• 13:23
Speaker 1: It's not Brady versus you know, Russell Wilson at all.
• 13:28
Speaker 2: No, this is these the guys who are playing Sunday
• 13:31
Speaker 2: from the coaches on down, don't give two hoots about
• 13:34
  Speaker 2: what happened.
• 13:35
Speaker 3: What happened ten eleven years ago.
• 13:38
Speaker 1: McDonald's asked, are you gonna throw it from the five?
• 13:40
Speaker 1: Like that's such a stupid question to ask on you
• 13:44
Speaker 1: about this before? Yeah, no, hediots get a press pass
• 13:47
Speaker 1: and ask the dumbest questions.
• 13:49
  Speaker 2: Well, you've been on you've you've been to a radio
• 13:54
Speaker 2: row super Bowl week? Yes. Uh. The question that a
• 13:58
Speaker 2: lot of people will get credentials who should not get credentials?
• 14:01
Speaker 2: You know that, And they asked the dumbest questions, you
• 14:04
Speaker 2: know I and those dumb questions get noticed, They're picked
• 14:07
Speaker 2: up by other media outlets.
• 14:12
Speaker 1: I will say thank God that the Travis and Taylor
• 14:17
Speaker 1: thing is not a deal this year, because I could
• 14:19
Speaker 1: not end one another year of that bullcrap either. But
• 14:22
Speaker 1: that's another story for another day.
• 14:24
Speaker 2: Well, Alex, this is a super Bowl. It doesn't have
• 14:27
Speaker 2: a lot of doesn't have any superstars really, I mean
• 14:32
Speaker 2: high profile superstars. Yes, Jackson Smith.
• 14:37
Speaker 1: I was working on Mike Gallagher Show and he talked
• 14:39
Speaker 1: about I saw something about a player having Mono, and
• 14:42
Speaker 1: I'm like, don't tell me the darnold mono story is
• 14:45
Speaker 1: resurfacing again? Is it is that trending again?
• 14:48
Speaker 2: If it is, I've missed it. But again, everybody forgets
• 14:52
Speaker 2: when a kid came here. He was twenty years old.
• 14:54
Speaker 2: He wasn't twenty five. He was a kid.
• 15:00
Speaker 1: But again, like I was, like I was saying, Dewis
• 15:02
Speaker 1: tubas on ere was his off air. I mean I
• 15:04
Speaker 1: remember when that derailed his career here because they were
• 15:08
Speaker 1: actually doing decently before that Mono situation. Like people forget
• 15:13
  Speaker 1: about that.
• 15:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I mean I wish, uh you know, Donald
• 15:17
Speaker 2: had nothing, nothing to work with. Uh he was still
• 15:22
Speaker 2: the right guy that they picked, but you know, it
• 15:24
Speaker 2: just didn't work out. But like I said, the team
• 15:28
Speaker 2: that has to really kick itself from the butt coming
• 15:32
Speaker 2: off last year is great. Yeh is the Vikings.
• 15:35
  Speaker 1: I mean, and he's in rare company. I think I
• 15:38
Speaker 1: told you this. He's just got uh in. Tom Brady's
• 15:41
Speaker 1: status with fourteenth was a four back back years of
• 15:46
Speaker 1: fourteen hundred and fourteen thousand pass years. I mean it
• 15:48
Speaker 1: was a lot of.
• 15:49
Speaker 2: Yard absolutely, and he's the only I think he's what
• 15:53
Speaker 2: is He's thirty one and seven uh the last two
• 15:58
Speaker 2: years combined, and the only the only quarterbacks who have
• 16:01
Speaker 2: done that are the all time greats Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning,
• 16:06
Speaker 2: Drew Brees and who there's one other? Uh, there's four
• 16:12
Speaker 2: that he was the fifth one. Yeah, he's that's high
• 16:18
Speaker 2: praise for him and h.
• 16:21
Speaker 1: And I mean, look, I think it'd be kind of
• 16:22
Speaker 1: interesting to see him get that ring finally after quite
• 16:26
Speaker 1: a journey. And actually I listened to the series except radio,
• 16:29
Speaker 1: and then they made the point, I know you'll love this.
• 16:32
Speaker 1: He sat under the tutelage of Shanahan for a year
• 16:35
Speaker 1: and how much that might have changed him as well
• 16:37
Speaker 1: in that San Francisco.
• 16:39
Speaker 2: You know, there's no doubt sitting behind party that one
• 16:46
Speaker 2: year with San Francisco and absorbing everything at the Niners
• 16:51
Speaker 2: do offensively, no doubt helped him moving moving forward, then
• 16:56
Speaker 2: to Minnesota and now now there were Seattle.
• 17:01
Speaker 1: This is why I listen to everything on superw Week.
• 17:02
Speaker 1: I feel like you have to. You have to say,
• 17:03
Speaker 1: tune in to hear what they're talking about, because, look,
• 17:06
Speaker 1: you might watch him every week. I don't watch these
• 17:08
Speaker 1: guys every Sunday. I mean, you can try on Red Zone,
• 17:11
Speaker 1: but it's not it's not the same as trying to
• 17:14
Speaker 1: follow these guys every mob bit, you know what I mean.
• 17:17
Speaker 1: It's very different. So some of these talk shows, though
• 17:20
Speaker 1: there are a lot of talking heads, do provide some
• 17:22
Speaker 1: information during Super Bowl Week. I have to hand it
• 17:24
  Speaker 1: to him.
• 17:26
Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it.
• 17:28
Speaker 3: They They definitely do, Alex, and I'm looking forward.
• 17:33
Speaker 2: To it on Sunday night. Ox, you realize that when
• 17:38
Speaker 2: Mike Turico calls the game on.
• 17:41
Speaker 1: I'm not gonna talk about that. So tonight he's doing
• 17:43
Speaker 1: the pregame, the ceremony from Sana, from Santa Clara, and
• 17:47
Speaker 1: then he's gonna do the game and then he's flying
• 17:50
Speaker 1: out to Milan. I think either the night right after
• 17:52
  Speaker 1: the game, right, that's what's happening, I.
• 17:54
  Speaker 2: Would I would say so. I don't know if he's
• 17:56
Speaker 2: going to be doing a Monday night prime time I'm Olympics.
• 18:01
Speaker 2: I'm not sure, but yeah, he's flying right out to Milan.
• 18:05
Speaker 2: He's only the thirteenth play by play man of the
• 18:09
Speaker 2: sixty Super Bowls. Pat Somemerle and Al Michaels have done
• 18:13
Speaker 2: the most with eleven. Kirk Gally did seven, Jim Nance
• 18:18
Speaker 2: has done seven, Joe Buck has done six.
• 18:22
Speaker 3: The Great Dick Edinburgh did four. Kevin Burkhardt did two.
• 18:26
Speaker 2: So fin these guys, Burkard and Nance, Dick Crystal going,
• 18:30
Speaker 2: Frank Difford did one, Greg gumbled two.
• 18:36
Speaker 3: Ray Scott did two and a half.
• 18:38
Speaker 2: In the first Super Bowl, it was televising both CBS
• 18:42
Speaker 2: and NBC. CBS was the NFL carrier and NBC was
• 18:48
Speaker 2: the AFL carrier. Kirk Gallley did the game on NBC
• 18:52
Speaker 2: and the game on CBS. Race Scott, the legendary Ray
• 18:56
Speaker 2: Scott did the first half and Jack Whittaker did the
• 18:59
Speaker 2: same and half and then later on UH Ray Scott
• 19:03
Speaker 2: did two other Super Bowls for CBS, but it's only
• 19:05
Speaker 2: the thirteenth played by play announcer out of sixty and
• 19:11
Speaker 2: can do anything, Alex.
• 19:13
Speaker 1: I know, and he'll have a lot of energy to it.
• 19:15
Speaker 1: I've always enjoyed watching him on TV radio.
• 19:21
  Speaker 2: He's a queen's boy.
• 19:23
Speaker 1: But I always remember him doing all of the NBA
• 19:25
Speaker 1: playoff games on ESPN radio. I mean, he was so
• 19:28
Speaker 1: good when he did those games.
• 19:29
Speaker 2: He's excellent. He could do anything.
• 19:32
Speaker 1: And my guy, our guy, Bruce Becky is gonna be
• 19:35
Speaker 1: over there Kenny Albert calling hockey. So it's like it's
• 19:38
Speaker 1: like some of our friends are all.
• 19:40
Speaker 2: Yeah, Kenny Albert. I think Kenny Albert and Brendan Burke,
• 19:43
Speaker 2: both all TV announcers are going to be over there
• 19:46
  Speaker 2: calling the hockey.
• 19:47
Speaker 1: And Eddie Olchick the legend himself, So it'll be a
• 19:50
  Speaker 1: it'll be a fun one. I mean, I guess we
• 19:52
Speaker 1: can go there because the opening ceremonies is tonight, and
• 19:55
Speaker 1: there was still a lot of back and forth about
• 19:57
Speaker 1: who should be on the roster and who's shouldn't. But
• 20:01
Speaker 1: you know what I didn't realize, mister blow up a
• 20:05
Speaker 1: Team is the assistant GM of the Team USA, And
• 20:08
Speaker 1: I'm like, how does Chris Drury, What's he gonna do
• 20:12
Speaker 1: the TA Who's gonna trade up there so they get
• 20:14
Speaker 1: loose to the god better get you know, Like I
• 20:16
  Speaker 1: just I can't believe he's the assistant GM. That's that's
• 20:20
Speaker 1: almost unbelievable to me, But there he is.
• 20:25
Speaker 2: Alex. I don't understand what's going on with the New
• 20:29
Speaker 2: York Rangers going into this season. I really don't. It's
• 20:37
Speaker 2: really really strange how they have fallen apart uh trading Panarin. Okay,
• 20:45
Speaker 2: they weren't going to resign him again, that's their decision.
• 20:50
Speaker 2: He was an outstanding offensive player for them, and he
• 20:55
Speaker 2: provided outstanding offensive production, you know, through out his NHL
• 20:59
Speaker 2: career and in the last six and a half with
• 21:01
Speaker 2: the Rangers. But I guess he just had no interest
• 21:05
Speaker 2: in resigning Panarin. But he signed. I mean, Alex, couldn't
• 21:11
Speaker 2: they give him two years at eleven million? He's still
• 21:14
Speaker 2: a productive player. Yes, he's had postseason some postseason drop
• 21:19
Speaker 2: dry spells, but a lot of great players has. The
• 21:22
Speaker 2: game is different than in postseason. But you mean the
• 21:25
Speaker 2: New York Rangers wouldn't want it for another two years
• 21:28
Speaker 2: at eleven million. It's not. It wasn't that the term
• 21:32
Speaker 2: was five million or I mean, excuse me, the term
• 21:35
Speaker 2: was five years or six years. And look what mister
• 21:41
Speaker 2: Lamorello did for the Islanders on his way out last year,
• 21:43
Speaker 2: as it is, in his last couple of months as
• 21:47
Speaker 2: the Islanders, he traded Brock Nelson to Colorado and they
• 21:52
Speaker 2: got Colorado's one, two or three pick, best prospect in
• 21:58
Speaker 2: cal Ritchie, and they got a number one. Yes, Colorado's
• 22:01
Speaker 2: numb one pick is going to be at the bottom
• 22:03
Speaker 2: because their records so good. But this this prospect that
• 22:09
Speaker 2: the Arrangers received from Los Angeles Leon green Green Greenley,
• 22:18
Speaker 2: I mean, I've heard mixed things about him. Plus the
• 22:20
Speaker 2: fact the pick that they got from the Kings was, uh,
• 22:24
Speaker 2: you know, it is a third round pick. It could
• 22:26
Speaker 2: be elevated to a second depending on how far the
• 22:29
Speaker 2: Kings go in the playoffs. And remember the Colorado Avalanche
• 22:34
Speaker 2: didn't sign up Nelson until the offseason, so they and
• 22:37
  Speaker 2: I went again him. So't I don't think the Rangers
• 22:40
Speaker 2: got enomb for this trade. I really don't. But again
• 22:45
  Speaker 2: we'll see. Now.
• 22:46
Speaker 1: So why are the Kings because Penerin said that's the
• 22:48
Speaker 1: only team he wanted to go to I don't really
• 22:50
  Speaker 1: understand that dynamic.
• 22:51
Speaker 3: Well, I guess you know, he looked at all the
• 22:53
Speaker 3: pros and cons. I wish they had.
• 22:55
Speaker 2: I wish the Islanders and Rangers had made the trade
• 22:58
Speaker 2: another trade, because I think darsh would have given him
• 23:01
Speaker 2: eleven million for two years, and the Islanders probably would
• 23:05
Speaker 2: have given the Rangers a little bit more than the
• 23:07
Speaker 2: Kings gave them in the trade, because he's exactly what
• 23:10
Speaker 2: the Islanders need, because their power play still is pathetic
• 23:16
Speaker 2: despite their great season going in that we didn't see coming.
• 23:21
Speaker 2: And I don't know if the alms A gonna make
• 23:22
Speaker 2: that playoffs or not, but they've done a terrific, terrific job.
• 23:26
Speaker 2: But anyway, Alex, I'm sure Mike Sullivan didn't anticipate this
• 23:32
Speaker 2: six months ago, that this is where his team was
• 23:34
Speaker 2: going to be going into the Olympic break. Now, I
• 23:37
Speaker 2: ask you this as a Ranger fan. This offseason, you
• 23:45
Speaker 2: want to get up, you want to get a ton back.
• 23:51
Speaker 2: Would you put the start in on the trade market
• 23:53
Speaker 2: and try to get a ton back? I mean a
• 23:56
Speaker 2: ton back, uh, I mean by the time that the
• 24:01
Speaker 2: Rangers get better three years from now, two years frown.
• 24:06
Speaker 3: We never know how quickly teams can turn around.
• 24:08
Speaker 2: But would you do that? Would you consider trading to Stircian?
• 24:12
  Speaker 1: No, Okay, they.
• 24:15
Speaker 2: Can get they can get a load back. Toronto is
• 24:19
Speaker 2: dying for a goalie. Edmonton's dying for a goalie. Uh,
• 24:23
Speaker 2: the Devils are dying for a goalie. Should the Devil's
• 24:27
Speaker 2: trade Jack Ewes? Should they trade Jack Eughes? Here's a
• 24:32
Speaker 2: Devil's team with top end talent that is not gonna
• 24:35
Speaker 2: make the playoffs. They're they're way behind the uh, the
• 24:40
Speaker 2: Islanders for that third spot. They're not gonna make the playoffs.
• 24:44
Speaker 2: Sheldon Keith. Is Eve gonna be the coach moving forward?
• 24:47
Speaker 2: Is Fitzgerald going to be the generald manage moving forward?
• 24:51
Speaker 2: This has been a This has been a disaster for
• 24:54
Speaker 2: the New Jersey Devils this season. It's been a disaster
• 24:56
Speaker 2: for the New York Rangers. Do they really shake it up?
• 25:00
Speaker 2: They do a David Sterns type thing and not re
• 25:02
Speaker 2: sign An Alonso. I mean, that's how dramatic the change
• 25:07
Speaker 2: has to be for the Rangers and Devils. Did the
• 25:12
Speaker 2: Rangers trade Adam Fox?
• 25:14
Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean how about Laffie? I mean you stuck
• 25:18
Speaker 1: a seven year contract on the guy, and what's he
• 25:21
  Speaker 1: done for you?
• 25:21
  Speaker 3: I don't really, Well, well, that's it.
• 25:23
Speaker 2: If they want to trade him, they put they If
• 25:26
Speaker 2: they want to trade to Sterkin, and they could put
• 25:29
Speaker 2: him in the deal and say to a team, you
• 25:31
Speaker 2: want to Stirk in, you gotta take a lot frenier
• 25:34
Speaker 2: and get him off our hands. So I mean, this
• 25:37
Speaker 2: is gonna be a very interesting I don't think so
• 25:40
Speaker 2: much at to the trade deadline on March sixth, but
• 25:43
Speaker 2: I think during the uh, during the offseason, you know,
• 25:47
Speaker 2: after July first, the free agency starts and then the
• 25:50
Speaker 2: trades kick in. Yeah, I mean, nobody who follows the
• 25:55
Speaker 2: three New York teams could figure that the Devils and
• 25:59
Speaker 2: the Rangers are gonna be inept and they are.
• 26:04
Speaker 1: Well, I saw the Devs earlier in January and they
• 26:07
Speaker 1: won that one. But another team, I am not. You're
• 26:11
Speaker 1: giving in a close sign on for us night. I
• 26:13
Speaker 1: really appreciate that. All right, So let me ask you this,
• 26:17
Speaker 1: being of deadlines, the Knicks basically getting a steal yesterday.
• 26:23
Speaker 1: I even know the guy they traded away, so it's like, boy,
• 26:27
Speaker 1: they have to get rid of anybody big for this defense.
• 26:30
Speaker 1: And I think it's because of McBride going down. I
• 26:32
Speaker 1: really believe there's a correlation there.
• 26:34
Speaker 2: I think there is a correlation there, Yes, absolutely, And
• 26:38
Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks signed one of
• 26:42
Speaker 2: these guys, one of these players that are going to
• 26:49
Speaker 2: accept the buyout. I mean, they might even look at
• 26:52
Speaker 2: a guy like Cam Thomas, who who the nets waved yesterday,
• 26:57
Speaker 2: who could put the ball in the bathket coming off
• 26:59
Speaker 2: the bench. If the Rosan who has said he wants
• 27:04
Speaker 2: to buy out, I would he'd be perfect for the Knicks.
• 27:09
Speaker 3: So we'll see. But the key thing is not the
• 27:13
  Speaker 3: key thing.
• 27:13
Speaker 2: The key situation is everybody thought that Jannis was going
• 27:17
Speaker 2: to get traded to the Warriors, to Minnesota, and he
• 27:20
  Speaker 2: hasn't gotten traded. And I think that's a good thing
• 27:22
Speaker 2: for the Knicks. I don't think Nick should break up
• 27:25
  Speaker 2: their club.
• 27:26
Speaker 1: And what's the Wizards do again? All these guys at
• 27:29
Speaker 1: like thirteen wins, I don't really understand what their next
• 27:32
  Speaker 1: move is.
• 27:33
Speaker 2: So well, it is strange that they picked up a
• 27:39
Speaker 2: couple of older guys a team that's tanking. They did
• 27:43
Speaker 2: they they turned they totally turned around their tanking and
• 27:49
Speaker 2: Trey Young a couple of weeks ago, and Anthony Davis.
• 27:53
Speaker 2: I don't think they're going to play much the rest
• 27:54
Speaker 2: of the season because they don't want to blow that
• 27:58
Speaker 2: that draft position that their in. But Bobby Mark's on ESPN,
• 28:04
Speaker 2: and he's a very good friend of mine, and he
• 28:08
Speaker 2: was my coworker with the Nats. He was an existant
• 28:10
Speaker 2: drum manager for many many years. Said that he thinks
• 28:13
Speaker 2: that the Wizards won the trade deadline, including the Tray
• 28:19
Speaker 2: young a move a couple of weeks ago, and he
• 28:22
Speaker 2: said that he thinks that they had a great chance
• 28:24
Speaker 2: to finish in the top six next year.
• 28:27
Speaker 3: So we'll see if that's true or not.
• 28:31
Speaker 2: But yeah, the Wizard surprised me get the two guys
• 28:34
Speaker 2: that they got, getting Davis and Trey Young. I would
• 28:37
Speaker 2: have never figured that out.
• 28:41
Speaker 1: Ray young Man, I just I don't know what happened
• 28:45
Speaker 1: with him in Atlanta. I thought he was going to
• 28:47
Speaker 1: be King of Atlanta for a long time, but it
• 28:49
Speaker 1: didn't work out that way, so he did not.
• 28:53
Speaker 2: And the NBA is a very very unique, unique league
• 28:58
Speaker 2: the last five six years.
• 29:00
Speaker 1: Then well, all right, speaking of uniqueness, I have to say,
• 29:04
Speaker 1: and by the way I think you and I talk
• 29:05
Speaker 1: about this. I think you asked me once would you
• 29:07
Speaker 1: want to break up the Knicks chemistry and get Giannis?
• 29:10
Speaker 1: And I really didn't want to until that skit. I
• 29:13
Speaker 1: was like, okay, maybe now, but I'm still kind of
• 29:16
Speaker 1: glad we didn't get them because that would have been.
• 29:19
Speaker 2: Yeah. I think they I think they did the right thing.
• 29:22
  Speaker 2: They wouldn't have.
• 29:22
Speaker 1: Gotten rid of Obie. If anybody I think that that's
• 29:25
Speaker 1: who I would have gotten rid of, they were and
• 29:26
  Speaker 1: pull that move.
• 29:27
Speaker 3: But you know, yeah, well, hey, for the Nick it's
• 29:30
Speaker 3: all about the playoffs. That that's what's all about.
• 29:35
Speaker 2: And they have to be successful in the playoffs and
• 29:38
Speaker 2: if they're not, they'll break up. They'll break up the
• 29:40
Speaker 2: club a little bit. They're not going to tear it apart,
• 29:45
Speaker 2: and they see if they can get you. Honest, who'll
• 29:48
Speaker 2: be thirty two next year and has had three major
• 29:51
Speaker 2: calf injuries in the last eighteen months.
• 29:53
Speaker 3: And you know what they say about calf injuries sometimes.
• 29:55
Speaker 2: They lead to uh, to torn achilles and again you're
• 30:00
Speaker 2: not talking to a medical guy here, but uh, you
• 30:03
Speaker 2: know that's something to look out for.
• 30:07
Speaker 3: So so we'll see.
• 30:08
Speaker 2: But they're playing very well right now, and uh.
• 30:13
Speaker 3: You know, it's all about the playoffs for the Knicks.
• 30:16
Speaker 3: You know, they can't go out in.
• 30:17
Speaker 2: The first or second round. They can't. And we'll see
• 30:22
Speaker 2: what Mike Brown does if he can be the missing
• 30:27
  Speaker 2: agent here.
• 30:27
Speaker 1: Well, no, here's what he's got to do better than Thibodeaux.
• 30:30
Speaker 1: Because Thimbdeaux brought this team it's first postseason win in
• 30:33
Speaker 1: a long time, or postseason round win in a long time.
• 30:38
Speaker 1: They finally got to the court in the coments like
• 30:41
Speaker 1: there was something of the first time in twenty five
• 30:43
Speaker 1: years with the quarter Conference. I mean, there was a
• 30:45
Speaker 1: lot of first under Thibodeaux in a long time. So
• 30:49
Speaker 1: he's now got to elevate the game and say, okay,
• 30:51
Speaker 1: how do we do this? But I'll tell you, Lou
• 30:54
Speaker 1: when you see guys like Shammit's and Colic getting these minutes,
• 30:59
Speaker 1: he does have a different approach to this game that
• 31:01
Speaker 1: the Thibodeau would just burn out everybody's workload and that
• 31:04
  Speaker 1: was it.
• 31:05
Speaker 2: This guy, actually, that is a difference, Yes, that is
• 31:08
Speaker 2: a difference. He uses everybody. And Landry Shammitt has been great.
• 31:12
Speaker 2: He's been better for the next than when he was
• 31:14
Speaker 2: playing for the Nets a couple of years ago when
• 31:16
Speaker 2: the nets where Trump Will had you know, Durant and
• 31:19
Speaker 2: those guys. Shammitt was not hitting the three consistently, and
• 31:25
Speaker 2: he's done that great job for the next with the
• 31:29
Speaker 2: three point play and getting four or five six one
• 31:33
Speaker 2: night from beyond the arc.
• 31:37
Speaker 1: All right, I gotta ask you this. You mentioned uniqueness,
• 31:40
Speaker 1: and we have to go back to the NFL for
• 31:42
  Speaker 1: a minute.
• 31:43
  Speaker 2: Uh.
• 31:45
Speaker 1: Nine international games next year and Paris, Rio and Australia. Uh,
• 31:56
Speaker 1: where will the super will be played? Eventually? Louis will?
• 31:59
Speaker 1: It may not ever be played here someday.
• 32:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, there's gonna be a game on the Moon
• 32:04
Speaker 2: in about four years. Then when we inhabit Mars, they'll
• 32:08
Speaker 2: be playing game there.
• 32:10
Speaker 1: You're shuttling us to another space station to watch football, too,
• 32:14
Speaker 1: So you know absolutely.
• 32:16
Speaker 2: Now there's nine games next year, and we talked about this,
• 32:22
Speaker 2: you know affair the other day. There's going to be
• 32:25
Speaker 2: twelve or sixteen games a year internationally, and the NFL
• 32:30
Speaker 2: is going to take those twelve or sixteen games and
• 32:33
Speaker 2: they're going to sell them to one of the networks
• 32:37
Speaker 2: or one streaming services a separate package, and they're gonna
• 32:41
Speaker 2: be making millions and millions of dollars again, just on
• 32:44
Speaker 2: that TV package. So that's coming, believe me. And you
• 32:52
Speaker 2: know that is not that's gonna happen, Alex. I mean
• 32:56
Speaker 2: for sure that's gonna.
• 32:57
Speaker 1: Happen, all right, And I think, I mean, I definitely
• 33:03
Speaker 1: also want to see eight I think at this point
• 33:05
Speaker 1: it's just time to push it to eighteen and nineteen weeks,
• 33:08
Speaker 1: eighteen games and may get the night before President say,
• 33:11
Speaker 1: for all of us at this point, just let it happen.
• 33:13
Speaker 2: Well, I think next year, and correct me if I'm wrong,
• 33:16
Speaker 2: because I don't have a calendar in front of me.
• 33:19
Speaker 2: I think next year's super Bowl is February fourteenth, and
• 33:23
Speaker 2: just the way the calendar falls, I think February fifteenth
• 33:26
Speaker 2: next year is President's Day. So next year they're gonna
• 33:29
Speaker 2: get what they always wanted with the seventeen game schedule.
• 33:33
Speaker 2: It's just the way the calendar falls. But I think
• 33:36
Speaker 2: next year will be a President's Day super Bowl weekend.
• 33:40
Speaker 2: But Alex, check the calendar for me, and when you
• 33:42
Speaker 2: have a chance, I think next Actually.
• 33:47
Speaker 1: You're right because it's not a leap year next year,
• 33:49
Speaker 1: so I think you're right on that.
• 33:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, so they're gonna get what they what they
• 33:53
Speaker 2: want next year. Now with the with the frigid cold
• 33:56
Speaker 2: temperatures this weekend and the record being one hundred and
• 34:01
Speaker 2: twenty seven point seven million viewers, they have a very
• 34:06
Speaker 2: good chance of breaking breaking that. Now, of course, again,
• 34:09
Speaker 2: you don't have stars like we talked about in this game.
• 34:12
Speaker 2: You don't have the Mahomes or the Brady or Kelsey
• 34:15
Speaker 2: or Josh Allen, even though he's never played in the
• 34:17
Speaker 2: Super Bowl. By the way, the first quarterback from that
• 34:20
Speaker 2: draft class of twenty eighteen to get to the Super
• 34:23
Speaker 2: Bowl is Sam Donald, not Josh Allen, not Lamar Jackson,
• 34:29
  Speaker 2: but Sam Donald.
• 34:32
Speaker 3: So the numbers will be good. The numbers will be good.
• 34:35
Speaker 2: I don't know if they'll break one hundred and twenty
• 34:37
Speaker 2: seven point seven, but we'll see.
• 34:41
Speaker 1: Yes, we will see. All Right, is there any baseball news?
• 34:45
Speaker 1: I mean, I guess we're gonna have about Beltran and
• 34:49
Speaker 1: kent In and Andrew Jones as well. But I'm really
• 34:53
Speaker 1: you know, I feel like we're not in We're almost
• 34:57
Speaker 1: in baseball, but we're not there yet. You know, I'm
• 35:00
Speaker 1: kind of excited with the World Baseball Classic coming up.
• 35:02
Speaker 1: Are you worried about Juan Soto joining it though. Are
• 35:05
Speaker 1: you worried about that.
• 35:08
Speaker 2: Unless unless the same thing happens to him that what
• 35:11
Speaker 2: happened to Edwin Diaz. No, I'm not worried about it.
• 35:17
Speaker 2: You know when he when Diaz uh towards A. C.
• 35:21
  Speaker 2: L Well.
• 35:22
Speaker 1: I was the Yankees pintry pride last week, and I
• 35:24
Speaker 1: think a lot of people's still frustrated was that they
• 35:27
Speaker 1: didn't make enough moves, you know, and I kind of
• 35:31
Speaker 1: they boasted of the pitching a little bit, but Bellinger
• 35:34
Speaker 1: was a big resign.
• 35:35
Speaker 3: I don't think either the Met Storty Yankees have made
• 35:38
  Speaker 3: enough moves.
• 35:39
  Speaker 2: I really don't.
• 35:43
Speaker 1: As I see, you know, uh, the Red Sox signed
• 35:46
Speaker 1: Buddy somebody, and of course the Dodgers signing Kyle Tucker.
• 35:50
Speaker 1: And you know it, as my friend Caleb said a
• 35:54
Speaker 1: couple of days on the show, you know, we're going
• 35:57
Speaker 1: to enjoy the most baseball we can now because we've
• 36:00
Speaker 1: happened next year at this point.
• 36:02
  Speaker 3: Unfordunately, that's a real possibility.
• 36:06
Speaker 1: So and I know I've seen actually in the I've
• 36:10
Speaker 1: seen video of replacement players and MLB during the strike.
• 36:14
Speaker 1: Did you know about that too?
• 36:16
Speaker 2: And other than I.
• 36:17
Speaker 3: Hope, I hope we don't do that.
• 36:19
Speaker 1: I really hope how bad was it talent though? Like
• 36:22
Speaker 1: was it pretty bad or was it?
• 36:23
Speaker 2: No? I mean obvious, it's not major league level. You know,
• 36:29
Speaker 2: it's terrible. So you know, we'll.
• 36:36
Speaker 3: We'll hope that does not happen.
• 36:39
Speaker 1: That's be somebody in the other than the Dodgers winning
• 36:42
Speaker 1: the World Series this year. That's what has to happen.
• 36:44
Speaker 1: So we'll have to see. All right, Louis Well, I
• 36:48
Speaker 1: feel like there's so much more cover. But what else
• 36:50
Speaker 1: is on your mind today? As we had in the
• 36:52
Speaker 1: Super Bowl week I can't believe we're in this super
• 36:54
Speaker 1: Bowl weekend already. January was just yesterday, wasn't it?
• 36:59
  Speaker 2: It was?
• 37:00
Speaker 3: I mean, what's on my mine? I'm looking forward to
• 37:01
  Speaker 3: Olympic hockey?
• 37:04
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no, we gotta have an Olympic hockey because
• 37:06
Speaker 1: that's obviously starting. And I see the women actually go
• 37:10
Speaker 1: off to a good start yes yesterday. But on the
• 37:13
Speaker 1: men's side, I mean, look, it's gonna come down to
• 37:17
Speaker 1: USA and Canada maybe, And I will never forget that
• 37:22
Speaker 1: sixteen years ago now when Sid the Kid trickled it past.
• 37:26
Speaker 1: Uh Miller's loved the say the goldender team USA, who
• 37:30
Speaker 1: actually won the gold medal for his efforts.
• 37:33
Speaker 3: I mean, well, he won the MVP for his effort
• 37:36
  Speaker 3: or the MVP.
• 37:36
Speaker 1: For his efforts, right and uh from Buffalo, and that
• 37:40
Speaker 1: moment still sits for me. And I had to do
• 37:42
Speaker 1: a radios for the next day and I was all defeated.
• 37:44
Speaker 2: But you know, yeah, I mean if Alex obviously, I
• 37:48
Speaker 2: would love to see United States win a gold medal.
• 37:50
  Speaker 2: I mean, I think they have a great chance. It's
• 37:52
Speaker 2: a one and done tournament after after the round robin.
• 37:57
Speaker 3: But Canada has McDavid. Canada had as McKinnon.
• 38:02
Speaker 1: The recurring characters from last year's Four Nations.
• 38:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, yep. And they have an addition this year,
• 38:09
Speaker 2: a nineteen year old kid in Maclin Celebrini, who probably
• 38:13
Speaker 2: the next year or two is going to be on
• 38:15
Speaker 2: the level of McKinnon and McDavid, maybe close to that level.
• 38:21
Speaker 2: The kid is kids remarkable and he's scoring points at
• 38:27
Speaker 2: a ridiculous pace. Hannah's goaltending suspect America has better goaltending,
• 38:36
  Speaker 2: but I don't know. I don't know how Jason Robertson
• 38:40
Speaker 2: and Cold Coffee Cole Cawfield could not be on the
• 38:45
Speaker 2: American roster and I don't know how healthy. Jack hughses,
• 38:49
Speaker 2: they's probably should have taken them off the roster. But
• 38:53
Speaker 2: we'll see, hopefully, hopefully the United States wins the gold medal.
• 39:01
Speaker 1: Ah, we we can only hope. All right, Well, Louis,
• 39:05
Speaker 1: this was great, and we will we will have to
• 39:08
  Speaker 1: see what's next. I gotta say I had a fun
• 39:10
Speaker 1: time last week in New Jersey seeing guys like al Lighter,
• 39:14
Speaker 1: who remembered me from the met years. I mean being
• 39:17
Speaker 1: in the city growing up as a kid, you know,
• 39:19
Speaker 1: getting to know both clubhouses, you get those kinds of connections.
• 39:22
Speaker 1: So al Lighter not only a great pitcher, a decent
• 39:25
Speaker 1: guy by the way, like I really was.
• 39:27
  Speaker 3: A good guy.
• 39:27
  Speaker 2: Yes, he's a good guy. I met him a couple
• 39:30
  Speaker 2: of times.
• 39:31
Speaker 1: And Giambino is there, and Gustasage, I mean, all these legends.
• 39:37
Speaker 1: But you know what's funny, I think in the Yankees sponsors,
• 39:39
Speaker 1: who knows what would who would show up from the
• 39:41
Speaker 1: alumni because I feel like the alumni base is not
• 39:43
Speaker 1: as connected to the Yankees, or they're getting more dissatisfied
• 39:46
Speaker 1: with them by the day based on what you hear
• 39:49
Speaker 1: from Jeter and Aaron on all these guys.
• 39:51
Speaker 2: You know, well, you gotta remember too, a lot of
• 39:54
Speaker 2: these guys no longer played with just one team, so
• 39:57
Speaker 2: you know, they bounce around and that has that as
• 40:00
  Speaker 2: an impact.
• 40:00
  Speaker 1: Oh, that's it. I understand Belgium's going in as a
• 40:03
Speaker 1: Met and that kind of makes sense to me because
• 40:06
Speaker 1: he was okay. He made his bones in the two
• 40:09
Speaker 1: thousand and five playoffs with the Ashers, like his postseason
• 40:14
Speaker 1: was ridiculous that year, correct, and then of course the
• 40:18
Speaker 1: White Socks kind of shut him down in the in
• 40:20
Speaker 1: the World Series. But I remember in the ALCS, I
• 40:22
Speaker 1: think he won an ALCS MVP, but I'm not mistaken.
• 40:26
Speaker 1: But you know, he did a lot for the Mets.
• 40:28
Speaker 1: I know it's gonna talk about that strikeout, but beyond that, he.
• 40:32
Speaker 2: Just that's stupid, that's dumb. And he met fan who
• 40:34
Speaker 2: talks about that that strikeout, and every time I hear
• 40:36
Speaker 2: about it, it just rankles at me. The guy finished
• 40:39
Speaker 2: second in the MVP. He should have won the MVP
• 40:41
Speaker 2: that year. He's one of the best Mets of all time.
• 40:46
Speaker 2: He's the best Mets center fielder of all time. He's
• 40:49
Speaker 2: one of the two or three best base runners of
• 40:51
Speaker 2: all time. He was a tremendous switch hitter. He had
• 40:54
Speaker 2: a great arm, he had a high baseball IQ. I
• 40:56
Speaker 2: don't know what what met fans want. New York fans
• 40:59
Speaker 2: sometimes really ticked me off. They really do. It's all
• 41:03
Speaker 2: because of his talk radio crap. This wfan type crap.
• 41:10
Speaker 2: That's all I have to say.
• 41:14
Speaker 1: Yeah no, And by the way, it'speaking of a fan.
• 41:16
Speaker 1: I think they're carrying it. Got shout out Kevin Harlan,
• 41:19
Speaker 1: who will be doing the game on radio, and I
• 41:21
Speaker 1: always love his call. I mean, I've learned over the
• 41:24
Speaker 1: years to just enjoy football on the radio. It's just
• 41:27
Speaker 1: it's a little more difficult, maybe, but you get to
• 41:29
Speaker 1: know every player that they mentioned it on TV. You
• 41:32
Speaker 1: don't get that benefit of knowing who caught them, who
• 41:35
Speaker 1: every moment of on who's on the field. Like these
• 41:37
Speaker 1: guys have to paint the picture for you on radio.
• 41:40
Speaker 2: Yeah no, the painting the word picture, as the great,
• 41:44
Speaker 2: the late great Bob Murphy used to say, is special.
• 41:47
Speaker 2: Sports on radio is special. And Kevin Halland the one
• 41:51
Speaker 2: thing about Kevin Hall, and yes sometimes he yells too much,
• 41:56
Speaker 2: but nobody gives you more details in a shorter period
• 42:01
Speaker 2: of time of what's going on during the play by
• 42:05
Speaker 2: play than Kevin Harlan. There's nobody out there who can
• 42:09
Speaker 2: compress as many details in a short period of time.
• 42:13
  Speaker 2: So he's been I would.
• 42:15
Speaker 3: Have to say this at least ten twelve years, and
• 42:17
Speaker 3: they're always doing the Super Bowl.
• 42:21
Speaker 1: Well, twenty fourteen, I saw news. I think he said
• 42:23
Speaker 1: it was sixth So at that point it's okay. Two
• 42:26
Speaker 1: years later, that's crazy.
• 42:28
Speaker 2: Because Marv did it before, and Marv did to get
• 42:32
Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl on radio for years.
• 42:34
Speaker 1: Oh, I want to ask this, this was good. So
• 42:37
Speaker 1: I know earlier in the week they had an earthquake
• 42:39
Speaker 1: and I'm just like I got gotlu on to talk
• 42:42
Speaker 1: about nineteen eighty nine because San Francisco versus Oakland, they're
• 42:45
Speaker 1: doing the game and all of a sudden everything goes out.
• 42:48
Speaker 1: I'm sure you remember it like it was yesterday, Louis,
• 42:51
  Speaker 1: Sure I do.
• 42:54
  Speaker 3: I was actually at a friend's house.
• 42:56
Speaker 2: We're having dinner and Al Michael's and the Great Al
• 43:01
Speaker 2: Michaels and the Great to Macarver are probably the best
• 43:04
Speaker 2: color combination and play by play team of all time
• 43:08
Speaker 2: on the national broadcast, in my opinion, or on a
• 43:12
Speaker 2: couple of minutes after they were setting the scene, the
• 43:14
  Speaker 2: earthquake hit.
• 43:16
Speaker 3: It went dark the picture, and.
• 43:21
Speaker 2: Al, while he was still on the air, said, I
• 43:22
Speaker 2: think when he's a long time California guy after he
• 43:25
Speaker 2: moved from Brooklyn when he was a kid, said I
• 43:29
Speaker 2: think we're having an earthquake. I don't know if you said,
• 43:32
Speaker 2: I think we're having earth thak. Oh, we're having an earthquake.
• 43:34
Speaker 2: And the old Candlestick Park with sixty thousand people in there,
• 43:39
Speaker 2: did not collapse, so that that was the best thing.
• 43:44
Speaker 2: But that was horrendous. People died.
• 43:46
Speaker 1: It was while we're on AL Michaels tell us about
• 43:50
Speaker 1: because I just saw a video from the opening ceremony already.
• 43:53
Speaker 1: See we get to see that in tape delay. But
• 43:56
Speaker 1: it's happening now. And the funny part is for an Olympics.
• 44:00
Speaker 1: That was Olympic hockey game that was in Lake Classic,
• 44:05
Speaker 1: that was upstate New York. I mean we taped, they
• 44:08
Speaker 1: tape delayed. I mean, I know you know that story
• 44:10
Speaker 1: better than that was most why they had tape delay
• 44:13
Speaker 1: that that miracle and ice game.
• 44:16
Speaker 3: It's the biggest blunder in sports broadcasting history.
• 44:21
Speaker 2: AB. Now again, this was nineteen eighty we didn't have
• 44:24
Speaker 2: all the streaming services, we didn't have all the cable services.
• 44:27
Speaker 3: Even ESPN was only six months.
• 44:29
Speaker 2: Old, so it was still the infancy of having all
• 44:34
Speaker 2: these extra broadcast outlets on TV. ABC asked the Olympic
• 44:40
Speaker 2: Committee to move the game to eight o'clock.
• 44:43
Speaker 3: The game start at five o'clock.
• 44:46
Speaker 2: And Americans unless you lived on the northern border like
• 44:52
Speaker 2: in Minnesota, Detroit, Buffalo, Upstate Vermont or Maine, where you
• 44:58
Speaker 2: can get you can get Canadian TV, which broadcasts the
• 45:01
Speaker 2: game live. Uh, you have to wait to lay the clock.
• 45:04
Speaker 2: And Uh, it's the biggest blunder in sports broadcasting history.
• 45:11
Speaker 2: They didn't want to ABC didn't want to disrupt the
• 45:13
Speaker 2: local news and and uh stuff like and programming like that.
• 45:19
Speaker 2: But it's a blunder it nowadays that would have never happened.
• 45:22
Speaker 2: It would be televised live. Uh. It's a story that
• 45:26
Speaker 2: gets little play, but that blunder it gets little.
• 45:31
Speaker 1: Fact it was tape delayed is the most mind boggling
• 45:34
Speaker 1: park because it was in New York State. I mean,
• 45:35
Speaker 1: it wasn't like overseas or anything like that. It's just
• 45:39
Speaker 1: mind boggling. And by the way, I think I'm gonna
• 45:42
Speaker 1: try and do some lose outside and just do those
• 45:44
Speaker 1: are not lose. The speed skating, I love the speed
• 45:47
Speaker 1: skating where they do those sharp corners.
• 45:50
Speaker 3: Well, be be careful, be careful, my first.
• 45:53
Speaker 1: It's about as slip frey as it is out there
• 45:55
Speaker 1: on the on this on the rinks, so you never know. Oh,
• 45:59
Speaker 1: and curling, that's the one sport I really like in
• 46:01
Speaker 1: the in the Winter Olympics. I think they have it
• 46:03
Speaker 1: this year, right or did they go?
• 46:04
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I was watching it last night, and you
• 46:08
Speaker 2: know that's a huge Canadian sport.
• 46:12
Speaker 1: Yeah, but I just loved the mopping of the rink
• 46:14
Speaker 1: and it's just so fun.
• 46:17
Speaker 3: Make sure you got a good broom.
• 46:20
Speaker 1: And some guys falling their ass. That's the best.
• 46:22
Speaker 2: That's it. Well, I was watching mixed curling's it was
• 46:26
Speaker 2: a guy and a girl. It was it was a
• 46:29
Speaker 2: guy and a girl versus guy and a girl, and
• 46:31
Speaker 2: this one girl she was spectacular. I don't know anything
• 46:34
Speaker 2: about curling, but I knew she was. She was doing
• 46:37
  Speaker 2: a spectacular job.
• 46:39
Speaker 1: All right. This is kind of reminded me of the
• 46:40
Speaker 1: Summer one too, because a guy that's always in the
• 46:43
Speaker 1: Summer Olympics. Novak Djokovic. Uh, you know that was that
• 46:48
Speaker 1: was a big matchup against al Kraz Outkraz wins. But
• 46:53
Speaker 1: I mean could have last year's Olympics. I think it
• 46:55
Speaker 1: was gonna be the last. You know, could these last
• 46:58
Speaker 1: Olympics in the summer be the last one we see
• 47:00
Speaker 1: of Djokovic? Are we seeing him wind down? Now? You think?
• 47:04
  Speaker 2: I think?
• 47:04
Speaker 3: I mean I think so. But I mean he had
• 47:05
Speaker 3: a great Australian Open.
• 47:07
Speaker 2: I mean he beat uh Janix Senna in the semifinals
• 47:12
Speaker 2: and to beat Senna and Altoris back to back would
• 47:15
Speaker 2: have been a tremendous feet and uh he won the
• 47:24
Speaker 2: first set six to two, but then the youth took over.
• 47:29
Speaker 2: But there is no better competitor than uh Djokovic. And
• 47:35
Speaker 2: I mean he's just a tremendous player. I mean, the one,
• 47:39
Speaker 2: just one of the best competitors I've seen in any sport.
• 47:45
Speaker 1: All right, Lou, before we go, there's there is one
• 47:48
Speaker 1: thing I wanted to talk about that pissed me off.
• 47:52
Speaker 1: Chris Jury had a huge press conference after trading Panerain
• 47:55
Speaker 1: this week, and he says we wanted to give a
• 48:00
Speaker 1: chance to win Lou in the one hundred years of
• 48:04
Speaker 1: Rangers hockey. We didn't give other teams and other players
• 48:08
Speaker 1: a chance to win. This guy's a disaster.
• 48:12
Speaker 2: But Alex, coming into this season, the New York Rangers
• 48:18
Speaker 2: thought they were gonna they were gonna win. And I
• 48:19
  Speaker 2: don't buy that.
• 48:20
Speaker 3: I don't mean winning the Cup.
• 48:21
Speaker 2: But they thought that they were going to obviously be
• 48:25
Speaker 2: a playoff contender and uh maybe go two or three
• 48:30
Speaker 2: rounds deep in the playoffs. I don't buy that. I
• 48:34
Speaker 2: really don't buy. We want to get Panerah a chance
• 48:39
  Speaker 2: to win. I don't buy it. I mean I don't
• 48:43
  Speaker 2: And again that.
• 48:44
Speaker 1: Real quick about the Islanders, I know you want to
• 48:46
Speaker 1: mention that before we signed off today, well before.
• 48:49
Speaker 2: We sign off, you know, New York Islanders beat the
• 48:52
Speaker 2: New York Rangers four out of four and the last
• 48:54
Speaker 2: night they can bleed a four out of four season
• 48:56
Speaker 2: sweep of the New Jersey Devils, another team in disarray.
• 49:01
Speaker 2: As we talked earlier, never happened among the three teams.
• 49:06
Speaker 2: Never happened where one of the three metro teams beat
• 49:09
Speaker 2: the other two all eight games. So kudos to the
• 49:13
Speaker 2: Islanders who who really have done a great job. I
• 49:17
Speaker 2: will get here since it's an Olympics theme the Olympic year,
• 49:23
Speaker 2: the NHL through this day, be through opening day of
• 49:27
Speaker 2: the Olympics. The Colorado Avalanche get the gold medal, the
• 49:30
Speaker 2: Tampa Bay Lightning get the silver medal.
• 49:32
Speaker 3: And I'm giving the New York Islanders the bronze medal.
• 49:36
Speaker 1: And Shaefer gets gold medal. Of everybody, all right, and
• 49:39
Speaker 1: absolutely the gold medal goes to him for just being
• 49:43
Speaker 1: a badasses first year.
• 49:47
Speaker 3: He's a badass for eighteen years old.
• 49:49
  Speaker 1: And I saw his first I saw a nice I
• 49:51
Speaker 1: saw a goal from him for the first time because
• 49:54
Speaker 1: I didn't see when the last time I was at UBS.
• 49:56
Speaker 1: I was there last Saturday, and I saw him score.
• 49:58
Speaker 1: I said, well, there go. I saw Shane for goal,
• 50:00
Speaker 1: and I feel like my life's completed for this hockey season,
• 50:03
