Transcript
- 0:00Hello
- 0:11traveler. I'm not sure what strange magic must
- 0:14have brought you here, but you have stepped into a
- 0:17realm of my creation. A sprawling
- 0:20city filled with danger and glory and most
- 0:22importantly, lots of gold out. I
- 0:25call it Ilanumis. Who am I,
- 0:28you might ask? The name is Jarjin,
- 0:31and I'm the patron deity of gambling.
- 0:34Long story short, this group of
- 0:37idiots, or as you may call them, heroes,
- 0:40made a bet with me that they had what it took to make a mass
- 0:43trove of gold, but left some of the key
- 0:46details blank. So I fill them in
- 0:49myself. I send them to this pocket
- 0:51dimension, into the city I had created
- 0:54with brand new bodies they'd have to attune
- 0:57to. Can these fools pass my test?
- 1:00Or will they be trapped, um, here forever? So,
- 1:03um, experience my world of trials and
- 1:05tribulations and join alongside this
- 1:08posse of pitiful people, or as I like to
- 1:11call them, the Criminals of Isla
- 1:14Numis.
- 1:16Welcome, everybody, to the sort of
- 1:19pseudo first episode of the what is called
- 1:22the Criminals of Ela
- 1:24isla, you name. Uh,
- 1:28I thought it was who's? Moose.
- 1:30Who's Moose?
- 1:30Who's Moose? I love Who's Moose? No, it's
- 1:37numis. There we go. Numis. Criminals of
- 1:39Isla Numas.
- 1:42For those of you that are freaking.
- 1:44Out right now, thinking, whoa, what's going on? Where's the
- 1:46Benders and Brews podcast that I know and love and
- 1:49brought me here in the first place, don't worry, we're not closing out
- 1:52the Benders and Brews podcast. This is A-D-D podcast that
- 1:55we're creating in addition to our channel to kind of
- 1:58round out the RPGs that we as a group
- 2:01play. Um, and it means more content for you, which is
- 2:03great. It also means that we don't just kind of have
- 2:06downtime when we're not recording and posting
- 2:09episodes of Benders and Brews while we're kind of working between
- 2:12seasons. So just more
- 2:14content.
- 2:15Different.
- 2:15Uh, RPG. We're playing Dungeons and Dragons, fifth edition.
- 2:18So, um, I've got a group of people around the table. Some of them are people
- 2:21you'll recognize from the Benders and Brews podcast. Some of them
- 2:23aren't M, all with different brand new, interesting
- 2:26characters, but just a little bit of a
- 2:29background to what's going on in the campaign. So, uh,
- 2:32we've been playing Dungeons and Dragons, some of us for a while,
- 2:35a couple of years, um, some of us a little bit shorter, but
- 2:38nonetheless, um, together. And we
- 2:41were running a campaign before this. And this is going to
- 2:44take place sort of within that same universe
- 2:47or that same world with the same characters they were playing
- 2:49as, but put into new bodies
- 2:52with not all of their old abilities
- 2:55and skills and everything that they had before. I think you guys were at what
- 2:58level? Seven.
- 2:59I think it was like nine.
- 3:01Nine.
- 3:02Thought so.
- 3:02Let me look. I'm pretty sure it was seven.
- 3:05Jackson was spoiled.
- 3:06Jackson was spoiled.
- 3:07It is level eight.
- 3:08Eight, okay. Right in the middle, right in the center.
- 3:11Um, and you guys had all kinds of great, cool, fun
- 3:14abilities. That skyler as the DM was like.
- 3:16Oh, man, how do I challenge these guys?
- 3:18So I'm shooting you all the way back to level one,
- 3:22um, with new bodies and new
- 3:25classes and races and skills. And this is going to get
- 3:28interesting. It's going to get interesting. So you're in a new world, um, but
- 3:31you remember the character that you used to be.
- 3:34So, uh, we're going to go around the table. Everybody's going to
- 3:37mention who they were and what they're now
- 3:39kind of waking up and playing, I guess you could
- 3:42say. So, Dave, you want to kick us off?
- 3:45All right. So before I was
- 3:48playing Maki, maki,
- 3:52who was raised in the
- 3:55Monastery of the Path of Light, whose
- 3:57monks were dedicated to
- 4:01following the light and self
- 4:03improvement through brilliance.
- 4:06Mhm. But Maki always
- 4:09teetered towards the dark.
- 4:12He was a traveler, if you will,
- 4:15and he sought self improvement, but
- 4:18in a different, more chaotic way
- 4:21than those who stick strictly to
- 4:24the Path. In
- 4:27Maki's view, he believes that there
- 4:29are multitudes upon
- 4:32multitudes of alternate dimensions in a
- 4:35myriad of realities. With such a vast
- 4:38array of planes of existence, why limit
- 4:41oneself to the light when
- 4:43change from the dark is so easily
- 4:46available?
- 4:49Maki is the nexus.
- 4:52He will travel this plane and others, uh, to capture
- 4:55the methods of combining the philosophical
- 4:58and elemental forces that define other
- 5:00planes.
- 5:02As soon as he sobers up.
- 5:04As soon as he sobers.
- 5:06That's right.
- 5:08Drinking problem. And as often his
- 5:10path goes down many
- 5:13side trails and he gets lost along
- 5:16the way.
- 5:17Many side trail that's the doors of
- 5:20many taverns bars.
- 5:23He's like, all right, today I will.
- 5:24Go to the 6th Dimension. Oh, dear.
- 5:27I'll take that with me.
- 5:29Tell us where we're supposed to say who we are now.
- 5:32Yeah, tell us about who you will be playing.
- 5:34Samaki is going to find
- 5:37himself.
- 5:41Not.
- 5:41In the usual body. Uh, he's used to the
- 5:44strong, toned
- 5:47well, not really, but dead
- 5:49body before. Now
- 5:52he's a weak little bird man.
- 5:55Oh, no.
- 5:57But he's still got the darkness thing
- 6:00going for him.
- 6:01Yeah, there you go. And to clarify, as a Kenku, not an
- 6:04Arakakra.
- 6:05Yes, he is a Kanku Kenku.
- 6:07So I've put you all into bodies that are kind of
- 6:10considered the more man what's the word? I
- 6:13don't want to say lesser. That sounds bad. But usually
- 6:17mischievous races or
- 6:20creatures, I suppose you could say. Yeah.
- 6:22Uh, kind of teetering on the edge of actual
- 6:25humanity and civilization and just
- 6:27wildebeest.
- 6:28Yes, exactly. Uh, the typical
- 6:30henchmen, for the most part, I guess, oftentimes used.
- 6:33So, um, that'll be a common thing.
- 6:36Quinn, I'm going to skip over you for a moment. I'm going to save you
- 6:39for last, given the circumstances, uh,
- 6:42for those listening. We'll get to that. Um,
- 6:44Jackson, you were somebody before all of
- 6:47this. Who were you?
- 6:48Uh, yeah, one that I played for half
- 6:51a session.
- 6:53That's true. We had just lost Jackson's
- 6:56character, his previous character, at almost the
- 6:59end of the last session we did in the previous
- 7:02campaign.
- 7:03And now, uh, his name was
- 7:06Dahaz Vegodather. His
- 7:08informally known as Des. Um, he was a
- 7:11Triton fighter, part of a
- 7:14Knight's Corps, the Order of the Seahorse.
- 7:16Nice.
- 7:17Um, and he came from the ocean, an
- 7:19Atlantis type area.
- 7:21Nice.
- 7:22Refused to bathe, dude. He smelled like fish, but
- 7:25rightly, so he lived in the ocean. Who needs to bathe when you're surrounded by
- 7:28water?
- 7:28Yeah. How would you even bathe? Right, exactly.
- 7:30What, are you going to go to the Goo Lagoon or something? That's just
- 7:33gross.
- 7:33Yeah.
- 7:34Okay. Uh,
- 7:37um, I only played him for half a session. It was hard to kind
- 7:40of flush out his ideals and whatnot, but he cared
- 7:43for people. He's that nightly type
- 7:46never left anybody behind. Um,
- 7:49but you know what? He was who
- 7:52he was.
- 7:52He was who he was.
- 7:53You know what? Today he wakes up as a
- 7:56somehow knowing the art of
- 7:59the hunt and a complete opposite
- 8:02kind, um, of lifestyle. He is reborn as a
- 8:05Ku Ranger.
- 8:07Yes.
- 8:07Um, so from the seas to the skies,
- 8:10if one will, which will be.
- 8:12Interesting, he's definitely going to have to really find that
- 8:15other new side and.
- 8:17All of a sudden loses his voice and can only
- 8:20mimic sounds that I guess his new body has
- 8:23heard in the past.
- 8:24Right.
- 8:25So there's definitely he can read and write.
- 8:27There's definitely going to be some kind of competing
- 8:31things, uh, going on within each of you for the most part,
- 8:34except for Quinn, which again, I'll get back to in a moment. Um,
- 8:37of know, here's my previous body
- 8:40and here's what I used to do, and here's how I used to think. And then there's this
- 8:43random new body that I got shoved into, and it's got new
- 8:46ideas and new concepts that it's trying to kind of push
- 8:49on me in a sense. Um, so it'll be kind of interesting to see that
- 8:52dynamic. And again, um, the cool thing about
- 8:54Jackson, your Triton character is it's going to be a
- 8:57sort of mystery for a lot of the other players here
- 9:00who haven't really gotten to experience him. So depending on
- 9:03what happens and you guys eventually getting back, um,
- 9:06to your original bodies will be interesting for
- 9:09them to kind of learn more about you along
- 9:12the way here, but then not in the
- 9:15same body that they'll eventually get to hopefully see you
- 9:18in once again. So, yeah,
- 9:20that'll be an interesting journey. Uh, fatty
- 9:23lumpkin.
- 9:28All right, for personal reasons, I chose to remain
- 9:31anonymous. And so I'm going to go by the name
- 9:33Fatty from my, uh, Fatty.
- 9:35Lumpkin favorite Lord of the Rings Horse fatty
- 9:38lumpkin.
- 9:39Prior to this out of body experience,
- 9:42I was a
- 9:45circle of the moon druid,
- 9:48and I had very humble beginnings. I
- 9:51was raised by wolves. One of them may or
- 9:53may not have been a werewolf, but we try to keep that identity
- 9:56under wraps. Like my own identity
- 9:59as a circle of the moon druid, I
- 10:02struggled with multiple personalities or
- 10:05tried to intermix multiple personalities with the various
- 10:08animals that I would try
- 10:10entertain myself with.
- 10:12That's good. So, actually, that's going to be interesting
- 10:15because to some extent, you already had
- 10:17experience with the concept of kind of juggling two
- 10:20minds. I don't know why I said it like Christopher
- 10:23walken. I don't
- 10:26know.
- 10:26That sounds like.
- 10:32Um but, yeah, you've juggled with that concept already,
- 10:35so it'll be interesting to see how he
- 10:38maintains that going into this new character, which.
- 10:40Is an echo knight. So we're kind of doing
- 10:43a 180 going from some spell
- 10:46casting, wild shaping
- 10:48druid to pretty much a more
- 10:51melee oriented
- 10:54fighter. But this one does have a bit of a
- 10:56multiple personality disorder as well, in that he is an
- 10:59echo knight.
- 11:01Uh, I get it, because, like, the.
- 11:03Echo thing, I feel like there's something
- 11:05there.
- 11:06They're so useful.
- 11:07I'm intrigued. I've never actually played with an echo knight
- 11:10before. They're very cool. Yeah, that'll be
- 11:12exciting.
- 11:13I hope to live up to that expectation.
- 11:16I'm sure you will. It'll be fun to for many
- 11:19of us to get to learn the abilities of what, an
- 11:22echo night, even, right?
- 11:25That's right. Fantastic. All right. Uh,
- 11:28I can't say last but not least, because we still have to get to Quinn, but
- 11:31cameron. Hello. What's going on?
- 11:35Who were you?
- 11:37Uh, so, I'm Cameron.
- 11:39Uh, I played a character
- 11:42named Roric Frostbeard,
- 11:45and he was famous for his frosted tips and
- 11:48his frosted ah.
- 11:50Uh, there we go. Okay.
- 11:52Um, he was a dwarf pirate who,
- 11:55uh, just loved being he moved from his caves
- 11:58and he went straight to the sea. And when he did that, his body hit
- 12:01a weird transformation where when he raged, because he
- 12:04was a barbarian, when he raged, ice
- 12:07would just form around his body and everyone around
- 12:10him, and it would protect him. And that was his whole
- 12:12stick, was he would just kind of charge in the people
- 12:15recklessly, and just.
- 12:19By the.
- 12:20End of every fight, he'd just be this ice glazed
- 12:23over monster with glowing blue eyes and
- 12:26stuff, and then it would just kind of melt away afterwards each
- 12:28fight. Um, so, needless to say, he
- 12:31handled every problem with his pure
- 12:34strength. And now my new
- 12:37character, uh, looked, and strength is my
- 12:39lowest stat.
- 12:41You got a real flip flop on.
- 12:42I got an act, just like everyone else said, I am the opposite.
- 12:45Now, instead of a
- 12:48jump in and punch, the first thing I see, I am now
- 12:51a quiet rogue
- 12:53goblin.
- 12:55So I'm not going to be as.
- 12:55Quiet, but I'm way sneakier
- 12:58than what I was, which was just loud and rough.
- 13:01Now I'm sneaky and stealthy.
- 13:06Snarky. I have a spark.
- 13:08Yeah, that's the best way to describe my character. He's got a little spark to
- 13:11him, a little spark plug.
- 13:12And that'll be fun.
- 13:13That'll be silly.
- 13:14So fantastic. Yeah, that'll be an interesting flip
- 13:17flop, like I said, of, uh, skills across
- 13:20the spectrum from the opposite end, as
- 13:23they say. So fantastic. All right, now we can
- 13:26say last but not least, we've got Quinn. Now,
- 13:28Quinn, uh, you played a little bit with
- 13:31some of us before as far as D D goes. Uh,
- 13:34not as often as the rest of us have, but you've had some
- 13:37fun doing it. Uh, you are the only one that's coming
- 13:40in without a prior character, which means that
- 13:43your character is native
- 13:46to the world that you guys are going to be thrown into, which is going
- 13:49to get real interesting really fast. Uh, tell me
- 13:51about that character.
- 13:53Yeah, I play, uh, a kinkun named Feather
- 13:55McGregor. Uh, feather.
- 13:58McGregor.
- 13:59I'm just part of the so, uh,
- 14:02uh, yeah, I'm native to this, you know,
- 14:05member of the, uh, a chill
- 14:08little bird dude. Uh, yeah,
- 14:13got a few secrets know. May come out, you know, may not
- 14:16come know. Really like
- 14:19sauce. My nickname is Little
- 14:21Sauce.
- 14:22Little Sauce.
- 14:24Um, I own little Sauce's sauce company.
- 14:27Wow, that's
- 14:30very, uh, business.
- 14:34Yeah, we'll call it that.
- 14:37Totally not a side hustle.
- 14:39What class are you?
- 14:41What is business?
- 14:41Uh, bird class.
- 14:43Uh, I'm going to be a wizard.
- 14:45He's a wizard.
- 14:46Uh, so I do all the
- 14:49wizard the wizard stuff.
- 14:51Magic and the spells.
- 14:53Yeah, I'm pretty much just a chill bird components.
- 14:56Uh, just living his life.
- 15:01Uh, got some money handed down to me from
- 15:04my grandfather, my father before him.
- 15:07Um, use that to make a little Sauce a sauce
- 15:10company. A little sauce, by the way.
- 15:12Yoyo. A little sauce.
- 15:13So yeah, that's about it. Really?
- 15:15All right, right on. So we've got another,
- 15:18like I said, a native to this world. He comes in with some
- 15:21money. He's got his own little business. Um,
- 15:24and I'm kind of personally crossing my
- 15:27fingers that you guys kind of use him as a
- 15:30guide into this world to some extent. But the
- 15:33irony is that Quinn knows not very much about this
- 15:35campaign. So you guys are going to be like, hey, so what's the deal with
- 15:38this? And then I'll just speak through Quinn's mouth
- 15:41as like, yeah, Quinn tells you or rather, uh,
- 15:44Feather McGregor or Lil.
- 15:46Sauce tells you about his eyes.
- 15:49I like to refer to.
- 15:53His, uh, eyes go to the back of his head.
- 16:00Made you a cleric,
- 16:07and he's a kenku.
- 16:08So it makes because it's
- 16:11not his voice.
- 16:13Ah, fantastic.
- 16:15Really have a voice to see. Exactly. So they're the
- 16:18perfect channel conduit for, like, a god
- 16:20to speak through.
- 16:22They really are awesome. So that's basically the gist of
- 16:25what.
- 16:25We'Re going to be jumping into.
- 16:27We'll, uh, be publishing the first episode alongside this, so you
- 16:30can also join us in jumping right into this campaign and
- 16:33this fun again. Benders and brews. The Avatar
- 16:36Legends podcast is not over. We're not not continuing
- 16:38it or anything like that. It'll be right back the same time of year that
- 16:41we do it every year. So next season you'll be able to listen
- 16:44to that. Nothing to freak out about, nothing to worry about. It'll be
- 16:47there. But, um, until then, we're going
- 16:50to be enjoying this little d d jaunt and who knows what other
- 16:53crazy antics our group might get into. But for
- 16:56now, check it out. Uh, head on over and listen to
- 16:59the first episode of Criminals of
