- 2:00Speaker 4: Thank you for joining me Sunday night. Lots of football
- 2:04Speaker 4: to review. The Vikings, we're going to get into that one, fellas.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Trust me on that. But Vikings win. They're 3-0. It
- 2:14Speaker 4: wasn't pretty. We're going to get to that later. Got
- 2:18Speaker 4: the Gophers to talk about. Look good most of the way.
- 2:24Speaker 4: But they survive at Washington. We're going to get into that.
- 2:27Speaker 4: We're going to get into some Big Ten football talk
- 2:30Speaker 4: in general. I want to give you my thoughts on that. Unfortunately,
- 2:35Speaker 4: the Minnesota Lynx lost tonight. or this afternoon, and that
- 2:40Speaker 4: was a rough game, man, because the Lynx were just, well,
- 2:45Speaker 4: they were just outplayed, and they lost 91-75, and yeah,
- 2:50Speaker 4: it just, it did not seem close whatsoever, and, you know,
- 2:57Speaker 4: I mean, Fee had 12 points, Olivia only had 11,
- 3:03Speaker 4: and they were just missing shots, looked out of whack, and,
- 3:06Speaker 4: you know, I had talked about this a little bit
- 3:09Speaker 4: before as well, because ever since the world tournament, the
- 3:13Speaker 4: links haven't looked good and New York has, and you know,
- 3:17Speaker 4: the links by the time it was all done, they
- 3:20Speaker 4: won the top seed by one game. You know, a
- 3:24Speaker 4: few weeks ago, everybody thought the links, this was the year.
- 3:27Speaker 4: I mean, they're, they were dominating everybody. And then all
- 3:30Speaker 4: of a sudden now the links are fighting for their lives.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Cause remember, two game or excuse me, best two out
- 3:38Speaker 4: of three in the series. So going back to New York,
- 3:42Speaker 4: New York and close it out on their home court.
- 3:45Speaker 4: And all of a sudden this whole season, this tremendous season, uh,
- 3:50Speaker 4: Olivia miles, by the way, rookie of the year officially.
- 3:57Speaker 4: And I don't know, man.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Just real disappointed, real disappointing. So, um, Anyway, I am
- 4:06Speaker 4: Vince Wright. Like I said, thank you for your support
- 4:08Speaker 4: of the Sports Done Right podcast. I want to give
- 4:10Speaker 4: a big shout-out to our big sponsor, 7th Avenue Pizza.
- 4:14Speaker 4: They are the best frozen pizza in Minnesota. Make sure
- 4:17Speaker 4: you get you some. We'll be right back.

- 4:52Speaker 2: to find a location near you.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Get you some. All right. Ladies and gentlemen, Minnesota Golden Gophers.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Let's get into that. And again, this is the Sports
- 5:04Speaker 4: Done Right podcast. I am Vince Wright, your host, the
- 5:06Speaker 4: sports governor of Minnesota. And Golden Gophers, hold on, 27-24,
- 5:12Speaker 4: go into a very, very hostile environment. University of Washington
- 5:18Speaker 4: is a very, very difficult place to play. Beautiful place
- 5:23Speaker 4: to play as well. One of the few places where
- 5:26Speaker 4: you can actually do what we call some sailgating as
- 5:29Speaker 4: opposed to tailgating, bringing them boats up close to the stadium.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Saw a lot of great pictures on social media, followers
- 5:37Speaker 4: of mine on Twitter, everybody just sharing some really nice pictures.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Great setting for college football. And one of the things
- 5:45Speaker 4: that I want to talk to you about and one
- 5:48Speaker 4: of the things that I'm really, really proud of the
- 5:50Speaker 4: Gophers is Drake, excuse me, Drake May, listen to me,
- 5:53Speaker 4: Drake Lindsey. finally getting his first road win because we
- 5:59Speaker 4: needed it. We really needed this victory last night. You know, Washington,
- 6:05Speaker 4: or excuse me, Wisconsin getting the upset win out in
- 6:09Speaker 4: Penn State. Iowa, which we'll talk about these other games
- 6:14Speaker 4: here in a few minutes, but you saw what happened
- 6:16Speaker 4: with Iowa and Michigan. And all of a sudden, man,
- 6:20Speaker 4: it was just like, man, if the Gophers lose this game,
- 6:22Speaker 4: and a lot of people had inklings. that was Minnesota
- 6:27Speaker 4: ready for this game. You know, Washington kind of an unknown, but,
- 6:31Speaker 4: you know, pretty consistent team the past few years. But
- 6:35Speaker 4: Drake Lindsey, 21-29, 204 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, a
- 6:41Speaker 4: bad interception that turned in some points. Outside of that,
- 6:46Speaker 4: the rushing game, you know, you had T.J. Thomas. He
- 6:51Speaker 4: had 78 yards. Darius Taylor was back. Rush for 36,
- 6:56Speaker 4: but Darius also had four receptions for 36 yards as well. And,
- 7:01Speaker 4: I mean, you know, a lot of nice plays. Big
- 7:05Speaker 4: play by Quad Hendricks as well. The defense, especially in
- 7:10Speaker 4: the first half, very dominating. Big shouts out to the
- 7:13Speaker 4: bloodied one, Maverick Baranowski. But not only him, Zach Harden.
- 7:19Speaker 4: You know, who else do we got out there? Oh,
- 7:21Speaker 4: big interception, too, from Jon Nestor. And like I said,
- 7:26Speaker 4: the Gophers, for the better part of three quarters, looking good.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Looking good. And then all of a sudden that fourth
- 7:35Speaker 4: quarter where they were actually outscored 14-3. And there's just,
- 7:39Speaker 4: you know, the one thing that bugs me about these
- 7:42Speaker 4: Gopher teams is at times just kind of the inability
- 7:46Speaker 4: to put a team away. And, you know, you were
- 7:51Speaker 4: feeling good at halftime. But, man, we got to the
- 7:54Speaker 4: fourth quarter. Again, some questionable play calling from P.J. and
- 7:58Speaker 4: the crew. A couple trick plays that absolutely killed us
- 8:04Speaker 4: and honestly led Washington back in this game. And good
- 8:08Speaker 4: thing the game ended when it did because who knows
- 8:10Speaker 4: what was going to happen, man. But like I said,
- 8:13Speaker 4: Gophers hold on for the win. And a big win
- 8:16Speaker 4: for Drake Lindsey. His first road win as starting quarterback.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Much needed, as I said, because Gophers go to 3-1.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Washington at 3-1 now as well. And big props to
- 8:30Speaker 4: the Minnesota defense. Like I said, defense really should got
- 8:34Speaker 4: the MVP award of last night's game because they looked
- 8:39Speaker 4: really good. And even in the fourth quarter, gave up
- 8:43Speaker 4: a couple scores, but You know, bend don't break, I guess,
- 8:46Speaker 4: as they say. And Minnesota, now here's the thing. Next week,
- 8:54Speaker 4: Golden Gophers have Michigan coming to town. And, you know,
- 8:59Speaker 4: they also, by the way, Fox Sports is bringing their
- 9:02Speaker 4: national show to the Twin Cities, to Minneapolis next week
- 9:07Speaker 4: as well. It's an early start. Remember, it's an 11 a.m. start.
- 9:12Speaker 4: for the Gophers next week, but it should be a
- 9:15Speaker 4: lot of fun. And can the Gophers win this game? Look,
- 9:21Speaker 4: anything's possible. Michigan has a tremendous defense. I mean, a
- 9:26Speaker 4: stellar defense, despite what happened in that Iowa game yesterday.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Gophers are going to have to find a way to
- 9:33Speaker 4: move the ball and find a way to dominate up
- 9:37Speaker 4: front against a very, very Overwhelming Michigan defense. Now Michigan's offense,
- 9:45Speaker 4: who knows? Who knows? But, you know, again, the Michigan
- 9:54Speaker 4: offense just kind of seems to shoot themselves in the
- 9:56Speaker 4: foot at times, and they're not dominating much. whatsoever. So
- 10:02Speaker 4: if that Minnesota defense can find a way to get
- 10:04Speaker 4: pressure up front on that quarterback, who knows what can happen.
- 10:16Speaker 4: So we'll see. I mean, happy with the win. Don't
- 10:21Speaker 4: know about P.J. rubbing blood all over himself, but it
- 10:24Speaker 4: is what it is. And, you know, let's take a
- 10:27Speaker 4: little John around the Big Ten because speaking of Michigan,
- 10:30Speaker 4: I'm sure you all saw the highlights if you didn't
- 10:32Speaker 4: watch the game. Iowa, you know, comes back, stuns Michigan
- 10:37Speaker 4: 20-19 in the big house. Hank Brown finding Reese Vander
- 10:41Speaker 4: for the walk-off touchdown. Beautiful pass, beautiful catch, kept the
- 10:46Speaker 4: toes in bounds. Here's the thing. michigan is already in
- 10:53Speaker 4: trouble but you know listen as a minnesota fan you
- 10:59Speaker 4: know how i feel about iowa and the hawkeyes and
- 11:01Speaker 4: all that stuff but let's take the the hawkeye hate
- 11:05Speaker 4: out of it for for a minute because i i
- 11:08Speaker 4: respect the team it's it's kind of we go to
- 11:10Speaker 4: town with some of their crazy fans down there every
- 11:13Speaker 4: once in a while but This Iowa team, man, and
- 11:17Speaker 4: I said this to a couple of my Iowa friends.
- 11:19Speaker 4: I said, this is the best opportunity that Iowa had
- 11:22Speaker 4: to beat Michigan in a long time because of what
- 11:25Speaker 4: we were just talking about. Michigan, again, stellar defense, but
- 11:30Speaker 4: the offense has so many question marks. And it just,
- 11:35Speaker 4: I don't know, man. I'm not impressed with Michigan's offense whatsoever.
- 11:40Speaker 4: And I just, I just, I don't know. I've just,
- 11:49Speaker 4: there's something about Michigan outside of, you know, yeah, they
- 11:52Speaker 4: won that national championship a couple years ago, but ever
- 11:55Speaker 4: since they have just not been anything up to what
- 12:01Speaker 4: you think of for Michigan football whatsoever. It's really that simple. Wisconsin.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Wisconsin.
- 12:11Speaker 4: They go out to Penn State. Listen, Wisconsin was down
- 12:15Speaker 4: 17-0 and winds up winning this game 24-20 on the
- 12:21Speaker 4: road at Penn State. Colton Joseph threw two touchdown passes
- 12:25Speaker 4: in the final three and a half minutes, roughly. Wisconsin's
- 12:30Speaker 4: largest road comeback since 2001. All of a sudden, hey,
- 12:35Speaker 4: is Wisconsin a team that nobody wants to play? All
- 12:38Speaker 4: of a sudden, is kind of the mojo slowly creeping
- 12:42Speaker 4: back for those badgers um that could be very very
- 12:46Speaker 4: interesting because now they're feeling themselves uh fickle gets a
- 12:50Speaker 4: much needed huge win um if you're if you're a
- 12:54Speaker 4: badger fan this is what you've been waiting for here
- 12:57Speaker 4: so um wisconsin now all of a sudden and again
- 13:00Speaker 4: that's why it wasn't so important for the gophers to
- 13:02Speaker 4: get that win oregon usc an old pac-12 battle i
- 13:07Speaker 4: get it you know hard to think of these teams
- 13:11Speaker 4: in the big 10 but you know it is what
- 13:13Speaker 4: it is oregon whoo yeah they put a smack down
- 13:16Speaker 4: on the fellas down in uh south central los angeles
- 13:21Speaker 4: 41 27 and here's the thing because oregon was only
- 13:24Speaker 4: up 13 to 10 at halftime 28 second half points
- 13:29Speaker 4: and oregon i don't know but usc you know their
- 13:35Speaker 4: coach is going to be on the hot seat because
- 13:36Speaker 4: again here we go again USC is just kind of
- 13:40Speaker 4: this good but not great program anymore. And a lot
- 13:48Speaker 4: of money goes through that program for not results like this.
- 13:53Speaker 4: So we will see what happens there. Again, the Sports
- 13:58Speaker 4: Done Right podcast here. Thank you for listening. I am
- 14:01Speaker 4: Vince Wright. And let's just finish up real quick here
- 14:05Speaker 4: on the Big Ten podcast. Ohio State, they beat Illinois 42-19.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Nebraska 4-0. They beat Michigan State 31-13. First time they've
- 14:16Speaker 4: been 4-0 in a long time. UCLA, which, by the way,
- 14:20Speaker 4: cracking the top 25 now, so look out for them Bruins. 54-3,
- 14:25Speaker 4: they won Maryland. They're 4-0, 2-0 in conference, and Maryland's
- 14:29Speaker 4: probably going to wind up getting rid of their coach.
- 14:32Speaker 4: It's just not working out there. I don't know.
- 14:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:37Speaker 4: So there you go. After week four, who are the
- 14:42Speaker 4: legitimate contenders? Ohio State, Oregon. Oh, don't forget Indiana. Don't
- 14:48Speaker 4: forget Indiana, Iowa. But here's my take. These teams, the
- 14:54Speaker 4: top tier teams this year in the Big Ten are
- 14:56Speaker 4: not as good as last year's teams that were top tier. Obviously,
- 15:01Speaker 4: Indiana winning the national championship, at least not right now. Um,
- 15:06Speaker 4: that's what I'm, what I'm noticing. And like I said,
- 15:09Speaker 4: that can definitely change. And one of these teams can
- 15:12Speaker 4: definitely win a national championship, but I'm just, I just
- 15:16Speaker 4: don't think they're, um, as top tier as the big
- 15:19Speaker 4: 10 teams were last year as well. So, um, moving on,
- 15:25Speaker 4: cause one of the other things too, that I want
- 15:27Speaker 4: to talk about here on the sports done right podcast
- 15:30Speaker 4: is the Minnesota Vikings, uh, And that Vikings game today, 23-16.
- 15:35Speaker 4: I wanted to come on after the game just to
- 15:38Speaker 4: be timely with it. I was trying to not let
- 15:42Speaker 4: the emotions of the game because obviously you go to
- 15:46Speaker 4: social media, you go to Twitter, everything. Everybody is not
- 15:50Speaker 4: thrilled with the quarterback situation. And I get it too.
- 15:54Speaker 4: I was tweeting throughout the game and Kyler showing some
- 15:59Speaker 4: flashes here and there. But man, Um, it was ugly.
- 16:05Speaker 4: It was an ugly win. Kyler Murray was 15 of 2,968 yards,
- 16:10Speaker 4: one touchdown, one interception. He was sacked three times quarterback
- 16:15Speaker 4: rating of 66.5. Aaron Jones rushed for 58 yards. It
- 16:19Speaker 4: looks like he might've dinged himself up again too. So
- 16:22Speaker 4: we got to keep an eye on Aaron Jones. Outside
- 16:25Speaker 4: of that, Kyler Murray was the second leading rusher with
- 16:27Speaker 4: 17 yards. Um, The big touchdown pass to Jordan Addison, J.J.,
- 16:34Speaker 4: Justin Jefferson, he tweaked his ankle, and we're all waiting
- 16:39Speaker 4: to hear on the update there. Kyler Murray, let's discuss him.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Like we said, 15-29, not a dominant performance by any means,
- 16:52Speaker 4: but like I said, there were some flashes, and he's
- 16:54Speaker 4: been out forever. Like I said, I'm trying to temper...
- 16:59Speaker 4: my my fandom which is god this you know he
- 17:03Speaker 4: sucked today or you know all this stuff into we
- 17:08Speaker 4: did win we are three and oh but yeah the
- 17:13Speaker 4: quarterback play has to get better but we're also realizing
- 17:16Speaker 4: that kyler murray has you know he hasn't played in
- 17:19Speaker 4: a minute um and and other things too you know
- 17:23Speaker 4: people talking about his height all this other stuff that
- 17:27Speaker 4: may come into play. The Jordan Addison touchdown was a
- 17:31Speaker 4: huge positive. You know, that 41-yard touchdown that he hit
- 17:35Speaker 4: him for. Addison, like we said, five catches, 90 yards.
- 17:39Speaker 4: And it was a nice pass. Everything looked good, like
- 17:43Speaker 4: an NFL quarterback should. I think the big thing, though,
- 17:47Speaker 4: with Kyler is just it's the consistency. I mean, you know,
- 17:51Speaker 4: you get that one or two really good passes, and
- 17:53Speaker 4: then you get the three, four, five, not-so-good passes, and
- 17:57Speaker 4: there were just too many stretches where the Minnesota Vikings
- 18:01Speaker 4: couldn't sustain drives because of that type of play. I think,
- 18:08Speaker 4: to be fair, as of now, he doesn't look like
- 18:12Speaker 4: the quarterback that's possibly going to lead the team to
- 18:16Speaker 4: the championship, obviously. He doesn't necessarily have to throw for
- 18:22Speaker 4: 350 yards or you know, have those big games like that. Um,
- 18:27Speaker 4: we got such a stellar defense here, which we're also
- 18:29Speaker 4: going to talk about here in a moment, but yeah,
- 18:33Speaker 4: they just got to get some consistent play from quarter
- 18:36Speaker 4: from the quarterback. And what that starts next week, Miami
- 18:41Speaker 4: coming to town Vikings already like a 10 and a
- 18:43Speaker 4: half point favorite. I don't know where that line comes from.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Miami just must be awful. Um, cause yeah, I mean,
- 18:51Speaker 4: even with Carson Wentz, like I was listening to on
- 18:53Speaker 4: some of the, uh, Fan feedback shows before I jumped
- 18:56Speaker 4: on to do my show. Even with Carson Wentz, 10.5
- 18:58Speaker 4: points spread for next week for the Vikings. I don't
- 19:01Speaker 4: know about that. Did Kyler Murray play well enough today
- 19:08Speaker 4: to give the Vikings fans confidence? No, I do not
- 19:12Speaker 4: think so. I think he's still trying to obviously find
- 19:16Speaker 4: his rhythm. Sure, maybe the offensive line broke down a
- 19:22Speaker 4: few of those times, but They got to find a way.
- 19:26Speaker 4: They got to find a way to get him better
- 19:27Speaker 4: and to get him going at quarterback. So with that
- 19:31Speaker 4: being said, the other side of the ball, Brian Flores
- 19:34Speaker 4: has this defense locked and loaded and ready to go. Continues,
- 19:39Speaker 4: I'd say, to be the identity of the football team.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Minnesota only allowed 25 points through two games coming into
- 19:46Speaker 4: this game, had a league leading eight sacks and you
- 19:51Speaker 4: know they only gave up 16 points today and maybe
- 19:56Speaker 4: should have been more but hey that's what a good
- 19:58Speaker 4: defense does they shut you down Minnesota forced two turnovers
- 20:02Speaker 4: including a late interception that basically ended Tampa Bay's chance
- 20:07Speaker 4: to to tie that game Got pressure on Baker Mayfield.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Made him work for everything today. Dallas Turner continued his
- 20:17Speaker 4: strong start with another sack. He came into the game
- 20:22Speaker 4: with three sacks, so good for him. And good stat here.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Minnesota's defense, we only allowed Tampa Bay 3.8 yards per play.
- 20:35Speaker 4: And they didn't fold in the end. So props again
- 20:38Speaker 4: to this Vikings defense. Brian Flores, coach of the year.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Can the defense make Minnesota a legitimate contender while the
- 20:50Speaker 4: offense figures it out? Can that defense help Minnesota buy
- 20:55Speaker 4: some time, so to speak? We're going to find out.
- 20:59Speaker 4: But the big elephant in the room, Justin Jefferson. That ankle,
- 21:04Speaker 4: once the replays kind of caught the injury and showed
- 21:07Speaker 4: the replay, Yeah, that didn't look good. That did not
- 21:10Speaker 4: look good. He only had two catches for 32 yards.
- 21:16Speaker 4: But if he's out, we'll see. And, by the way,
- 21:21Speaker 4: that's going to make it harder, too, on the quarterback,
- 21:23Speaker 4: Kyler Murray, because he's trying to get better. And if
- 21:26Speaker 4: his best weapon on offense is out, we'll see. Vikings
- 21:32Speaker 4: are 3-0. That's what matters, folks. They are 3-0 undefeated.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Today wasn't ugly, but a win is better than a loss.
- 21:42Speaker 4: I definitely don't think we've seen, obviously, the finished product
- 21:45Speaker 4: as of yet. Kyler showed some good things today, some
- 21:50Speaker 4: bad things, but we'll see if this is a learning
- 21:54Speaker 4: experience and if he can get better next week. He
- 21:58Speaker 4: did look rusty and inconsistent, but the defense looks like
- 22:02Speaker 4: it can ball as it always does. And They are
- 22:07Speaker 4: definitely the identity of the team for sure. Kyler, they
- 22:13Speaker 4: just need him to be efficient. Keyword, efficient. Protect the football.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Hit a couple of explosive plays. I think the question now,
- 22:25Speaker 4: what does this offense look like if Justin Jefferson is
- 22:29Speaker 4: out for an extended period of time? There you go. Vikings,
- 22:35Speaker 4: Get the win. They are 3-0. And you got to
- 22:39Speaker 4: like that. So Sunday night, sports done right. Just like
- 22:43Speaker 4: I said, wanted to get on here. Be topical. Give
- 22:47Speaker 4: you some very fresh thoughts in my head. So thank
- 22:49Speaker 4: you very much. Working on a couple interviews coming up
- 22:53Speaker 4: here this week. Going to be talking with former Gopher
- 22:56Speaker 4: legend Pete Najarian. Been trying to get Pete on for
- 23:00Speaker 4: a minute here. He's a very busy guy. So hopefully
- 23:03Speaker 4: we'll have him on. here very, very soon, talking to
- 23:08Speaker 4: some other folks as well, so keep it tuned here
- 23:11Speaker 4: on the Sports Done Right podcast, I appreciate you, I
- 23:15Speaker 4: thank you for all the support, all the love that
- 23:17Speaker 4: I get, it really, really means the world to me,
- 23:20Speaker 4: I really want to give a shout out Seventh Avenue Pizza,
- 23:24Speaker 4: they have been there basically since the beginning, the best
- 23:27Speaker 4: frozen pizza around, and You know, hands down, just some
- 23:32Speaker 4: great product over there. I love that sausage pepperoni, man.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Just a little longer in the oven for me. Crisp
- 23:39Speaker 4: up those edges. That's my favorite. People still raving about
- 23:43Speaker 4: the breakfast pizza as well. And the meatball as well.
- 23:49Speaker 4: So get them all, man. Just go get you some.
- 23:53Speaker 4: I am Vince Wright, the sports governor. I thank you
- 23:55Speaker 4: for your support. And we will be back soon with
- 23:58Speaker 4: another Sports Done Right podcast. Peace.
- 24:03Speaker 3: You can get your sports scattered, smothered, or covered. But
- 24:07Speaker 3: why would you when you can get your sports done right?
