- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Good next.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Happy Friday. The weekend's
- 0:12Speaker 1: finally here and we do have a school we're dropping by.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We'll fill you in later on. We made it to
- 0:17Speaker 1: the weekend, finally, and the World Cup ends next Monday.
- 0:22Speaker 1: It felt like a whole marathon, man, way too long. Anyway,
- 0:25Speaker 1: stick around. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: OK, so I was earlier, I was saying that sometimes,
- 0:34Speaker 1: you know, I really respect and I really admire what
- 0:38Speaker 1: these people do, because I don't think either one of
- 0:40Speaker 1: us could do it.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Big shout out to our friends over at N Parks.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Their staff actually had to remove a 3-meter long python
- 0:48Speaker 1: in the McPherson area. Hey, that's someone's a. That's crazy. Yeah,
- 0:53Speaker 1: someone's red flaggy ax, right? Um, the reticulated python was
- 0:57Speaker 1: sent to, um, for, for rehabilitation to get checked and stuff,
- 1:02Speaker 1: because I think it was, it was quite shocking to
- 1:04Speaker 1: see such a massive python. Um, this was spotted just
- 1:08Speaker 1: 2 days ago, 33 days ago actually.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And um a reader of this publication actually witnessed the incident,
- 1:16Speaker 1: was jogging, all of a sudden spotted it. Can you
- 1:18Speaker 1: imagine it could have been you, Joe. Did they say
- 1:20Speaker 1: which area of McPherson? Yeah, it's, it's like a park.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I don't know, it just, it just looks like a
- 1:25Speaker 1: park over in McPherson. So does does it really say
- 1:29Speaker 1: it could be like the wild wilderness area. They have
- 1:32Speaker 1: a lot of foliage and greenery, right, in McPherson. It's
- 1:34Speaker 1: funny you mentioned this because a few years ago, it
- 1:37Speaker 1: actually happened to me. Oh really?
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I wasn't the one calling Ann Parks, but you
- 1:42Speaker 1: know where Raffles Junior, not Raffles Junior College, Raffles Colleges, uh,
- 1:48Speaker 1: Raffles Institution on the right, I think it's the junior
- 1:50Speaker 1: college or was it Raffles Girls or something like that
- 1:53Speaker 1: Raffles Girls' School. There you go, over at the Church
- 1:55Speaker 1: of Battle Road, right? Before it was there, it was
- 1:58Speaker 1: an abandoned secondary school. Oh, OK. Were there a lot
- 2:01Speaker 1: of like forest areas? Uh, no, but it was near greenery.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It's quite near MacRitchie as well.
- 2:07Speaker 1: On the fence, there was a big fat python that
- 2:12Speaker 1: people were, people were just standing there to to observe it,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and I think they called that's definitely the right thing
- 2:19Speaker 1: to do. Do not approach and alarm the snake, you know,
- 2:23Speaker 1: just because you think you want to be a hero.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Please don't do that. If you're with your dog, for example,
- 2:28Speaker 1: if you're walking with a dog, please don't allow your
- 2:31Speaker 1: pet to approach the snake because it could end up disastrous.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So this is just a
- 2:36Speaker 1: This is really um an alert from our friends over
- 2:39Speaker 1: at E Parks to say, leave it to the professionals.
- 2:41Speaker 1: What these people did to call them, it's like the
- 2:43Speaker 1: right thing to do. There's something very poetic about saying
- 2:46Speaker 1: leave the snake to the professionals.
- 2:50Speaker 1: There's there's something you can apply to real life, it
- 2:53Speaker 1: really help? You know, in some situations we don't know.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Never mind, we're just having a very metaphorical conversation. There
- 3:00Speaker 1: you go. Anyway, stick around because we're about 10 to
- 3:03Speaker 1: 15 minutes away from opening up phone lines. So give
- 3:06Speaker 1: your school a shout out and get a song request
- 3:08Speaker 1: in 669-11987, whichever school you're from, give it a shout out.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Let us know what's fantastic about the place and request
- 3:17Speaker 1: for your favorite song to play here on 987. Maybe
- 3:21Speaker 1: your school could be organizing a World Cup watch along
- 3:24Speaker 1: for the final.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I don't know whether they will do that in school though.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Like if they do, then people might as well stay
- 3:30Speaker 1: over and start the school day. There is. Oh really?
- 3:33Speaker 1: There is actually a few schools. There are a few schools.
- 3:36Speaker 1: There are a few schools who are doing that. I'll
- 3:37Speaker 1: give you more details at just past 7 a.m., OK.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But right now you call us, whichever school you're from again, 669-11987. Yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 1: you can be an alumni as well. Give me your
- 3:46Speaker 1: school a shout out. It doesn't matter at all. Phone
- 3:49Speaker 1: lines are open and you get to pick a song
- 3:51Speaker 1: of your choice. 987, hello, who's this?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Hello. Hi, morning. Which school are you from? Madrasa religious school. Yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 1: it's madrasa. There we go. And, and how is it
- 4:05Speaker 1: like for you over there? Are you enjoying and having
- 4:07Speaker 1: a good time? Yes. Any exams or anything interesting happening
- 4:10Speaker 1: in school for you so far? Having CCA drama club. Oh,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I love it. I think will do very well in
- 4:16Speaker 1: drama club. Thank you dramatic dramatic. Yeah. OK, so what's
- 4:20Speaker 1: your favorite part about your school? Recess.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Another answer I think Joki might have said as a student.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I'm sure you too. Anyway, we would love to get
- 4:30Speaker 1: you a song this morning. What would you like to hear?
- 4:33Speaker 1: Hit the Wall by Gracie Abrams. That's coming right up
- 4:36Speaker 1: for you now. Please enjoy it and I hope you
- 4:38Speaker 1: have a fantastic weekend ahead. It's gonna be a sleepless
- 4:41Speaker 1: weekend if you're a sports fan. OK. We have the
- 4:44Speaker 1: Belgian Grand Prix. Yes, I think today is the practice round,
- 4:48Speaker 1: Saturday qualifying and Sunday is the actual race. Speaking of which, sorry,
- 4:52Speaker 1: gossip column here.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Lewis Hamilton and Kim Kardashian heart launching to the heart launching, like, really, really.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I mean, wasn't it launch when she made a small
- 5:02Speaker 1: cameo in his video? Um, I don't think so. I mean,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you know, so this one is really like they took
- 5:07Speaker 1: family photos, like they posted photos of them on their
- 5:10Speaker 1: own little vacation. It's like super hot launch. Somewhere in
- 5:14Speaker 1: the US, Kanye West is preparing another barrage of tweets
- 5:19Speaker 1: Lewis Hamilton for Kim Kardashian.
- 5:21Speaker 1: OK, aside from the Formula One Grand Prix, a certain
- 5:24Speaker 1: World Cup final is happening, the one that's been going
- 5:27Speaker 1: on for a while now. Spain against Argentina on Monday
- 5:30Speaker 1: morning at 3 a.m. and here's the thing, in secondary school,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I had to deal with one World Cup.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And a Euro and the timings of the matches and
- 5:44Speaker 1: the finals somehow are always on Sundays and they are
- 5:47Speaker 1: like why must it be on Sunday or Monday morning,
- 5:50Speaker 1: they should, they should do it on like a Saturday
- 5:53Speaker 1: so then at least everyone has to recover, right? Exactly.
- 5:57Speaker 1: But uh unfortunately it is such and we suffered back
- 6:01Speaker 1: in secondary school, but thankfully for 2002, it was held
- 6:05Speaker 1: in Korea, Japan. Oh, so the timing is OK. The
- 6:07Speaker 1: timings were friendlier.
- 6:09Speaker 1: But in some schools here in Singapore, they are organizing
- 6:13Speaker 1: overnight watch parties or they're going to have later start
- 6:18Speaker 1: times on Monday morning. Wait, so that means they're organizing
- 6:21Speaker 1: the watch party in their school like on campus. So
- 6:25Speaker 1: let me give you a few examples here. Places like
- 6:28Speaker 1: Hwa Chong, SJI, Methodist Girls' School, and ACS Independent. They're
- 6:34Speaker 1: gonna start school later on Monday morning to allow the
- 6:37Speaker 1: students to watch.
- 6:38Speaker 1: The World Cup final with the families. Wait, but you
- 6:40Speaker 1: said watch party. Yeah, watch parties in this one school. Oh,
- 6:44Speaker 1: only one school. OK, so far in the news, at
- 6:46Speaker 1: least 2. OK. Singapore Sports School, and makes sense. Victoria School. Oh,
- 6:52Speaker 1: very near my house. But, um, can I, can I
- 6:55Speaker 1: read to you a Victoria School's program? Yeah, what's going
- 6:58Speaker 1: on with them? The students must report to the school
- 7:01Speaker 1: from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., right? They register and
- 7:04Speaker 1: all that. Then there's a sleep period.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Why not just show up at like 1 a.m. or something.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So you sleep before the World Cup finals. Like from what,
- 7:13Speaker 1: like 11 to 1, 11 to 3, 11 to 1:30
- 7:17Speaker 1: or maybe 2 or what? It starts at 3, right? OK, OK.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And knowing how Victoria School is a boys' school, uh,
- 7:24Speaker 1: to the principal and teachers, as a former secondary school
- 7:28Speaker 1: kid myself, no one's gonna sleep.
- 7:32Speaker 1: 100% no. 100% no. Even when I did like school
- 7:36Speaker 1: camps and stuff like orientation camps and all that during
- 7:38Speaker 1: school or poly or uni, we never sleep, OK? It's
- 7:42Speaker 1: like two sleepless nights. Nobody's gonna sleep. Everyone's gonna be
- 7:45Speaker 1: discussing about the World Cup final, who's gonna score the
- 7:48Speaker 1: winning goal and all that. And then for ACS Independent,
- 7:51Speaker 1: very cute lah. They're gonna start school later at 8:30 a.m.
- 7:55Speaker 1: and usually on Mondays, they have a chapel session.
- 7:59Speaker 1: So they canceled the chapel session. It will be rescheduled
- 8:02Speaker 1: to Wednesday morning. I see. So in a way it's
- 8:05Speaker 1: like I'm sure God understands like the excitement of the
- 8:07Speaker 1: World Cup finals. I'm pretty sure he's face palming the
- 8:11Speaker 1: powers that be up there. So you see the schools
- 8:14Speaker 1: that I mentioned, right? Yes, are like your renowned schools
- 8:17Speaker 1: here in Singapore. I want to know what schools like
- 8:21Speaker 1: Bukit Panjang Secondary or BT Secondary or Saint Gabriel Secondary,
- 8:25Speaker 1: like what are they doing? Are they doing anything because
- 8:28Speaker 1: if I was a student from
- 8:29Speaker 1: Those kind of schools, and I read a piece of
- 8:32Speaker 1: news like this. I'm the kind that will feel very
- 8:35Speaker 1: inclined to go to my teachers saying, hey, how come
- 8:37Speaker 1: they can, we cannot. What's so special about them? Hold on,
- 8:40Speaker 1: hold on. But this is an individual decision. It's not like, right?
- 8:45Speaker 1: And so far you only mentioned two schools that are
- 8:47Speaker 1: doing the watch party, which is not a lot, like
- 8:50Speaker 1: 2 out of how many hundreds of schools do we
- 8:52Speaker 1: have here in Singapore. Maybe if, maybe, and we don't
- 8:56Speaker 1: know this, some schools are pushing back their start time.
- 8:59Speaker 1: They just didn't like announce it, and they're like, oh,
- 9:02Speaker 1: you can watch at home with your family lah, but
- 9:04Speaker 1: to organize an entire event is a different thing altogether.
- 9:08Speaker 1: They require the teachers to go down as well. Because
- 9:11Speaker 1: when it comes to football, I know schools like, OK,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I mean, not biased towards Catholic schools, but the amount
- 9:16Speaker 1: of friends I have there and the football culture is
- 9:19Speaker 1: so big, like Saint Gabriel's Secondary, Saint Pat's, and, and,
- 9:23Speaker 1: and maybe even some of the girls' schools as well. Yeah. Oh,
- 9:25Speaker 1: I'm probably the one that will slip through the World Cup, so.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I mean, I remember there was one like really exciting match.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I can't remember like, was it Ronaldo or someone? It
- 9:36Speaker 1: was very exciting. And then I, my friend took a
- 9:39Speaker 1: video of me falling asleep. Remember Jeremy sent me this
- 9:42Speaker 1: 4 years ago. OK. You were watching the grand finals
- 9:46Speaker 1: between France and Argentina. It was the best World Cup
- 9:50Speaker 1: final ever so far, but this girl was falling asleep.
- 9:54Speaker 1: You missed all the actions.
- 9:57Speaker 1: He sent you a video. I remember this. No, he
- 9:59Speaker 1: didn't send me a video. He sent me a text saying, bro,
- 10:02Speaker 1: you can say this on radio. Sonia fell asleep during
- 10:04Speaker 1: the finals. OK. Yes, you turned it into content. That's
- 10:07Speaker 1: for sure. Hey, that's me. Can I ask, does Saint
- 10:10Speaker 1: Anthony's have a soccer team or football team? Good question.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I don't know. Track there, Us Against the world. You
- 10:16Speaker 1: might find that a little bit familiar because the moment
- 10:19Speaker 1: I heard that song, I was like, it's a sample
- 10:21Speaker 1: of something, right?
- 10:23Speaker 1: So I couldn't identify the song. I'm going to search
- 10:25Speaker 1: it up. Um, it's a 1986 hit from Cutting Crews. Yes. Yes,
- 10:32Speaker 1: that song. So I was like, yeah, that, that's the
- 10:34Speaker 1: one that they sampled, and, um, fun fact, Simon Cowell
- 10:37Speaker 1: was actually the one that put this band together. So yeah, um,
- 10:40Speaker 1: I think they, they debuted at within the top 100
- 10:44Speaker 1: of the UK singles chart, English, Irish.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Boy band. Did they announce their debut on December 10th?
- 10:51Speaker 1: I don't know, man. That's why they were called that.
- 10:53Speaker 1: That's my dad's birthday. 10th of December. It's a band
- 10:58Speaker 1: for your dad. Yeah, yeah, I don't think he, I'm
- 10:59Speaker 1: not sure if he will like it though. It's a
- 11:01Speaker 1: bit more old school. But anyway, um, coming up in
- 11:03Speaker 1: just a bit, not one but two incidents that I
- 11:08Speaker 1: think no one would ever want to happen, you know,
- 11:11Speaker 1: around their wedding time, OK.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Um, as someone who got married this year, I now
- 11:16Speaker 1: understand why people sometimes can get quite stressed leading up
- 11:19Speaker 1: to it. As simple as you try to do it, right,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you still have to make decisions, you still have to
- 11:24Speaker 1: deal with some things that may happen that's not within
- 11:27Speaker 1: your control, you know what I mean? Wasn't there a
- 11:30Speaker 1: case of the wedding cake a few days ago? Yes, exactly.
- 11:34Speaker 1: And then another case regarding weddings that just popped up.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So I'm gonna address this this entire.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Week, right, there's been more than one wedding-related incident that
- 11:42Speaker 1: I would not wish upon anyone. Um, you know, during
- 11:46Speaker 1: my wedding, there were a couple of, I don't know
- 11:48Speaker 1: whether you consider it hiccups, but the first one was
- 11:51Speaker 1: bad weather in the morning, which actually turned out to
- 11:53Speaker 1: be quite nice because nobody perspired during the wedding, I guess.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I was quite thankful. It was quite cool, although I
- 12:00Speaker 1: think with rain always comes a little bit of like anxiety,
- 12:02Speaker 1: you know, people trying to get cars or like.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Looking out where to park, you're going to get a
- 12:06Speaker 1: bit wet and all that, right? Then there was a
- 12:09Speaker 1: small incident about my cake, but that was solved quite quickly,
- 12:13Speaker 1: and my wedding planner was actually like really worried that
- 12:15Speaker 1: I was going to be mad, but I was like,
- 12:16Speaker 1: it's chill. We still have 3 quarter of a cake, right, because, um,
- 12:20Speaker 1: one of the tears fell, FYI. I didn't actually talk
- 12:22Speaker 1: about that yet, but yeah, these things do happen and
- 12:25Speaker 1: It's not like we wanted it to happen, right? It's
- 12:27Speaker 1: beyond our control. But for these couples, quite unfortunately, you
- 12:31Speaker 1: might have read, um, one of the stories a few
- 12:34Speaker 1: days ago about a wedding cake that they ordered that, uh,
- 12:37Speaker 1: had some, they said, oh my, our fridge broke down
- 12:41Speaker 1: or something, then they ended up just canceling the order.
- 12:43Speaker 1: They're not sending them the wedding cake, to which, upon
- 12:46Speaker 1: reading a little bit more and looking at the photos,
- 12:48Speaker 1: I have a feeling it was a scam from the start.
- 12:51Speaker 1: It looked like an AI generated picture of the cake.
- 12:53Speaker 1: You and I are in agreement that the photos look fake, right?
- 12:57Speaker 1: AI generated, and they disappeared on them. They basically disappeared.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Um, if I'm not wrong, the shop cannot be found
- 13:04Speaker 1: anymore on the platform. But what's strange is the deposit
- 13:07Speaker 1: was returned. They returned it, yeah, maybe they chickened out
- 13:09Speaker 1: and people might take the deposit and run away. That's
- 13:13Speaker 1: so mean, honestly, on the actual day itself, right? So
- 13:16Speaker 1: thankfully that solved the cake issue. This next case is
- 13:21Speaker 1: a little bit more major, I feel.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Um, not the same price as a cake here, OK,
- 13:26Speaker 1: but what happened was a couple paid close to $30,000
- 13:30Speaker 1: to this wedding planner, OK, and I think that's on average,
- 13:33Speaker 1: actually it's quite OK already, 20 to $30. Some people
- 13:36Speaker 1: spend $100,000 on their weddings, crazy, but still, like this
- 13:39Speaker 1: is a lot of money. Close to $30,000 was paid
- 13:42Speaker 1: to the wedding planner, and they found out just about
- 13:45Speaker 1: a few months before the actual wedding that the vendors
- 13:49Speaker 1: were not paid.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Yeah, the vendors. So, you know, you, you, when you
- 13:54Speaker 1: attend your friend's weddings, you see multiple things that need
- 13:57Speaker 1: other people to come in and do like the lunch
- 13:58Speaker 1: buffet or like the setup, the flowers and all that.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Those are the vendors, right? So, after they realized, hey,
- 14:05Speaker 1: why are some of the vendors contacting us saying like
- 14:07Speaker 1: we haven't gotten our payment yet, you know, and the
- 14:10Speaker 1: wedding is just like a few months away, cutting it
- 14:12Speaker 1: very close. The package was paid in full, by the way,
- 14:15Speaker 1: in full.
- 14:16Speaker 1: And uh the couple started getting a little bit sussed like.
- 14:19Speaker 1: It was not just a deposit, you know, it's like
- 14:20Speaker 1: a full package price, right? So at the time they
- 14:24Speaker 1: didn't panic too much just yet. They're like, OK, maybe,
- 14:28Speaker 1: you know, they, they need some time to figure out
- 14:30Speaker 1: the finances or like the payments and stuff, but after
- 14:33Speaker 1: a while they realized, hey, um.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Of, of late, the company that they actually hired to
- 14:39Speaker 1: plan their wedding rebranded. They said, oh, we've rebranded. Here's
- 14:42Speaker 1: our new like business, whatever, right? Oh no, they, they
- 14:45Speaker 1: did the whole gray area thing. Yeah, so, so now
- 14:49Speaker 1: they said, oh, with, uh, while our name has changed,
- 14:51Speaker 1: our commitments to creating beautiful heartfelt celebrations.
- 14:55Speaker 1: To which this couple was like, wait, what, what's going on?
- 14:58Speaker 1: The vendors are still not paid, and guess what, they're
- 15:00Speaker 1: not the only one. There are other couples who reported
- 15:03Speaker 1: the same thing. So now it might be going into
- 15:05Speaker 1: a full-on investigation right now and we'll hopefully get some
- 15:10Speaker 1: updates very soon on whether or not this gets resolved.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It's quite a common case, you know, for example, a
- 15:16Speaker 1: company that you go to for a service, you pay
- 15:19Speaker 1: the deposit for a package or whatsoever.
- 15:22Speaker 1: The company suddenly closes down, but the same people will
- 15:26Speaker 1: open a brand new one with a new name. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 1: I hope that's not what's happening here. It's a bit
- 15:31Speaker 1: of a gray area in the business world and business law. Yeah,
- 15:34Speaker 1: but I mean this sounds like it's gonna open up
- 15:37Speaker 1: a larger can of worms for sure, right? You never
- 15:40Speaker 1: know what else they're hiding. Again, before you plan your
- 15:43Speaker 1: wedding or anything else that involves a down payment, always
- 15:46Speaker 1: do your research and I think
- 15:49Speaker 1: Actually, in this day and age of technology, your research
- 15:52Speaker 1: can be done on TikTok as well because there are
- 15:54Speaker 1: plenty of people on TikTok sharing about their bad experiences
- 15:57Speaker 1: with wedding photographers, videographers, and even wedding planners. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 1: I know 100% right.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Um, I also want to give the flip side of things.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I mean, having been through that, I think that your
- 16:09Speaker 1: wedding planners also encounter very difficult couples sometimes, unrelated to
- 16:15Speaker 1: this case that we just talked about, but it's both ways,
- 16:18Speaker 1: you know. I actually want to hear stories about bride.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Question for you, OK? Yeah. You know at traffic lights
- 16:25Speaker 1: or any crossing junction, you see these little yellow tiles
- 16:29Speaker 1: on the pavement. I mean, I remember that unfortunate story
- 16:33Speaker 1: of that girl that slipped and fell, right? Yeah, but
- 16:36Speaker 1: do you know what the yellow tiles actually do?
- 16:39Speaker 1: Are they supposed to alert you that you're like visually
- 16:42Speaker 1: alert you that you're supposed to cross the road or,
- 16:45Speaker 1: so two years ago when I was working on this
- 16:47Speaker 1: show called Gift of Joy, I actually worked with a
- 16:49Speaker 1: few visually impaired people and they were sharing how these tiles,
- 16:54Speaker 1: some of it are circular shaped, some of it are
- 16:56Speaker 1: rectangular shaped if I'm not wrong.
- 16:58Speaker 1: They actually represent help for people who are visually impaired.
- 17:03Speaker 1: It's known as like decision-making tiles, if I'm not wrong.
- 17:07Speaker 1: So if they can feel that it's round or traffic
- 17:09Speaker 1: light gonna stop for a while and wait, and then
- 17:11Speaker 1: those little elongated ones, they say, oh, this could be
- 17:16Speaker 1: the end of the path. I have to either go
- 17:18Speaker 1: left or right or climb stairs. It's almost like in
- 17:21Speaker 1: a way, a little bit in a way on the ground. Yes,
- 17:24Speaker 1: when we come back, some updates coming your way on
- 17:26Speaker 1: what LTA intends to do with.
- 17:28Speaker 1: The current tactile tiles at pedestrian crossings. Alright, details next. So,
- 17:33Speaker 1: with regard to the tactile tiles at pedestrian crossings, I'm
- 17:38Speaker 1: sure you've read about it in the news recently as well.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Just sending love to the family of the SIA stewardess.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Very sad. But, um, also, just know that for LTA,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I don't know whether is this timely for them to
- 17:51Speaker 1: come out and say this, but apparently studies on replacing
- 17:55Speaker 1: the tiles have, have been
- 17:58Speaker 1: Around for quite a while. I think 2 years ago
- 17:59Speaker 1: they were planning this already. They're gonna slowly roll it
- 18:02Speaker 1: out and hopefully by 2030 we'll see all new tactile
- 18:07Speaker 1: tiles and pedestrian crossings which are more skip resistant. The
- 18:11Speaker 1: current ones are skip resistant already, but they want to
- 18:13Speaker 1: make it more skip resistant. Yeah, I think I, I
- 18:16Speaker 1: guess just learning from it like when it rains sometimes
- 18:19Speaker 1: and it's been raining quite badly, it can get, it
- 18:23Speaker 1: may get a little slippery, right? Mhm. So please be
- 18:26Speaker 1: extra careful and again.
- 18:29Speaker 1: That there's not to take sides, but there's only so
- 18:33Speaker 1: much our friends over at LTA can do. It's up
- 18:36Speaker 1: to us to also make sure that we're wearing the
- 18:38Speaker 1: correct footwear and, and not those super super cheap brands
- 18:43Speaker 1: that you get from online shopping because no friction. There
- 18:46Speaker 1: are even some branded shoes with the soles. you walk
- 18:50Speaker 1: on a normal path in Singapore. If it rains, it'll
- 18:52Speaker 1: get extra slippery. So please be extra careful.
- 18:55Speaker 1: you have someone like me who will skip a step
- 18:58Speaker 1: and fall with no rain or no other conditions, just
- 19:03Speaker 1: being me. In a way that's a problem. That's a
- 19:05Speaker 1: me problem. Actually, it was so funny because you were
- 19:07Speaker 1: sick in the beginning of the week where I, I
- 19:10Speaker 1: fell out of nowhere. I don't know if I told
- 19:12Speaker 1: you this. I didn't tell you that I fell. It's
- 19:14Speaker 1: a story that I missed. What happened? What? OK, you're
- 19:17Speaker 1: probably hibernating through the stories that I posted about it
- 19:19Speaker 1: and I actually talked about it on air. Um, you know,
- 19:23Speaker 1: a few months ago I sprained my ankle playing paddle, right?
- 19:26Speaker 1: Which is funny because I'm not even that good at it.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And then, um, just on Monday itself while you were,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I think, neck-deep in COVID, I exited my Pilates studio
- 19:36Speaker 1: and I was rushing to my car because I said, OK,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I need to get back quickly, eat some lunch and
- 19:39Speaker 1: go for my next thing.
- 19:41Speaker 1: So I was rushing. I didn't realize, you know, those, um,
- 19:45Speaker 1: those side pathways are at Amoy Street area and you
- 19:48Speaker 1: know those shophousey places, right? So some of the steps
- 19:52Speaker 1: there are not the most, um, they're not marked, they're
- 19:56Speaker 1: just like kind of concrete. They're just concrete, right? So
- 20:00Speaker 1: I didn't look. I just rushed. I completely missed a
- 20:03Speaker 1: step and I fell downwards onto the road.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Joe was on the road, no, I was actually really embarrassed.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Does anybody have dashcam footage? I wish, I wish of
- 20:17Speaker 1: Sonia falling. There were two girls that came to help
- 20:19Speaker 1: me though. They're so sweet. I gave them a shout
- 20:22Speaker 1: out on air, but I don't know who they are,
- 20:23Speaker 1: so hopefully the internet can find them. Not the first
- 20:25Speaker 1: time I've seen you. Oh my gosh. OK, so aside
- 20:28Speaker 1: from the fact that Joakim missed out the story of me, um,
- 20:31Speaker 1: falling almost face planting at the roadside after my Pilates class.
- 20:35Speaker 1: There was, yeah, see, I told you he will laugh.
- 20:37Speaker 1: There's one more thing that happened on the same day.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I know. OK, so this is not my fault. It's
- 20:42Speaker 1: not my fault. What, what happened before that wasn't my fault. OK, podcast.
- 20:47Speaker 1: So I, I got there, slightly ahead of time and
- 20:51Speaker 1: I had very good luck with parking that day. I
- 20:53Speaker 1: was like, oh, hey, I found one by the road. OK.
- 20:56Speaker 1: So I kind of took my time. I replied some
- 20:59Speaker 1: emails and messages, and then I was like, OK, 5
- 21:02Speaker 1: minutes to, to the class, I decided to go out.
- 21:05Speaker 1: And, and head up to the class. So typically the
- 21:07Speaker 1: place that I go to, right, you will go into
- 21:09Speaker 1: a small like, um, building, like a, it's like a,
- 21:14Speaker 1: it's a walk-up, OK, one of those shophouse walk-ups, but
- 21:17Speaker 1: they did transform it into like there's a lift inside
- 21:19Speaker 1: and everything. So then you can go because there are
- 21:21Speaker 1: several floors and then there are offices and other things there.
- 21:24Speaker 1: So then I would go in and I would take
- 21:27Speaker 1: the lift up to the 3rd floor, OK, so it's
- 21:29Speaker 1: not that high, just a short, short rise, not a
- 21:32Speaker 1: high rise building.
- 21:33Speaker 1: So I went in, um, somehow the lift wasn't working.
- 21:37Speaker 1: So like I pressed it, the lift did not come
- 21:40Speaker 1: down to level one, it just wouldn't open, and even
- 21:42Speaker 1: though it says coming down, it never came down. So
- 21:45Speaker 1: I was wondering like someone moving or what, like, you know,
- 21:47Speaker 1: they're hogging the lift upstairs because there's only one lift,
- 21:50Speaker 1: to which this lady who I assume worked in that building,
- 21:54Speaker 1: saw me looking at the lift and wondering what was
- 21:57Speaker 1: going on, and she said, um, the lift broke down today,
- 22:00Speaker 1: so you have to climb the stairs up.
- 22:02Speaker 1: I was like, oh, OK, like, I mean, I didn't,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I didn't know it broke down, right? So I climbed
- 22:07Speaker 1: the stairs. What I didn't realize was it wasn't just
- 22:10Speaker 1: like level 12, and 3, it's like level 1 and
- 22:12Speaker 1: then there's 1 B, 22 M, and then 3.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Like they're like half, half floors, you know what I mean? So,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I felt like, I don't know whether it was psychological,
- 22:23Speaker 1: but I felt like it was a lot of stairs
- 22:25Speaker 1: to climb. Finally, when I got up, right, I opened
- 22:28Speaker 1: the doors just in time for the class and the
- 22:30Speaker 1: instructor was like, you worked up some, you did some cardio, right,
- 22:33Speaker 1: walking up here because I was kind of panting a
- 22:35Speaker 1: little bit.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Um, here's my question for you today, OK? Have you
- 22:40Speaker 1: ever been in a situation where, you know, you, you
- 22:43Speaker 1: are intending to go to a place or you're intending
- 22:46Speaker 1: to maybe, um, go for dinner somewhere or attend a
- 22:49Speaker 1: class or whatever?
- 22:50Speaker 1: But you realize that, oh, the nearest car park is
- 22:53Speaker 1: under construction, or maybe the lift has broken down and
- 22:56Speaker 1: you have to climb a lot of stairs. Did it
- 22:58Speaker 1: ever change your mind about being at a place before
- 23:01Speaker 1: or attending a certain event? Because for my folks, right,
- 23:07Speaker 1: I mean, of course, they're a little bit older. If
- 23:09Speaker 1: they find out that the lift is broken down, the
- 23:11Speaker 1: car park nearby is not in use, they may not
- 23:14Speaker 1: want to go there. They may change their mind. Yeah.
- 23:22Speaker 1: And there's the, cannot be that one, I think not possible,
- 23:24Speaker 1: but it's a Michelin star winning restaurant, Sonia. How are
- 23:27Speaker 1: you gonna climb? How many floors is that? I got
- 23:29Speaker 1: my credit card 70 floors or is it 50 floors
- 23:32Speaker 1: or 70? I can't even remember. I think it's around
- 23:35Speaker 1: 7070 floors cannot be. I don't think it's possible. I
- 23:38Speaker 1: don't think it's possible. But if you were to ever
- 23:41Speaker 1: realize that something is going to inconvenience you greatly, will
- 23:44Speaker 1: you change your plans?
- 23:46Speaker 1: Like for real, will you change your plans? I think
- 23:48Speaker 1: it depends on the scale of the inconvenience. If it's
- 23:52Speaker 1: anything less than 5 stories of stairs, it's still climb. OK,
- 23:56Speaker 1: but what if your friend is throwing a house party
- 23:58Speaker 1: and she lives on the 10th floor, but there's no
- 24:01Speaker 1: lift working? Will you still go? It better be the
- 24:03Speaker 1: best damn house party I've ever been to.
- 24:07Speaker 1: For sure, for sure. Give us a call 669-11987. Are
- 24:11Speaker 1: you the kind of person that the moment you realize
- 24:12Speaker 1: there's a bit of inconvenience, like instead of crossing the
- 24:15Speaker 1: road to climb the overhead bridge, forget it, I'm not
- 24:17Speaker 1: going opposite to the cafe or, hey, honestly, in this weather,
- 24:21Speaker 1: it might change my mind, OK? I know I don't
- 24:24Speaker 1: know about you, it might change my mind. I may
- 24:25Speaker 1: not want to go. Give us a call 669-11987.
- 24:29Speaker 1: At the notice of a slight inconvenience, do you feel
- 24:33Speaker 1: like you might change your plans just so that you
- 24:35Speaker 1: don't perspire so much, you know, you keep yourself happier
- 24:38Speaker 1: and all that. Let us know. In exchange, this one,
- 24:41Speaker 1: don't worry, not too much walking required. Gypsy over at
- 24:45Speaker 1: one Fullerton, that dining experience, last one could be yours.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I was just sharing about how a few days ago,
- 24:51Speaker 1: on the same day that
- 24:52Speaker 1: I almost face planted and fell on the road. Um,
- 24:55Speaker 1: the lift at my Pilates studio broke down, so I
- 24:58Speaker 1: had to climb, not so bad. It was 3 floors up.
- 25:02Speaker 1: It was actually, you know, at least I got some
- 25:04Speaker 1: cardio in, right? Why not? But I, I think it's
- 25:07Speaker 1: more of just like, it will set you back a
- 25:10Speaker 1: bit of time. Like, you know, if you're rushing for
- 25:11Speaker 1: time and you're just making it for the class, you
- 25:14Speaker 1: still have to run up.
- 25:15Speaker 1: stairs, you'll be getting there feeling not very relaxed, you know,
- 25:18Speaker 1: your heart rate will be up and everything. OK, climbing
- 25:23Speaker 1: stairs or going down a flight of stairs, right? Yeah,
- 25:26Speaker 1: it will hurt. Yeah, yeah, it will. So we wanted
- 25:28Speaker 1: to open up the phone lines and WhatsApp messages and
- 25:31Speaker 1: ask you this question. Have you ever been in the
- 25:34Speaker 1: same situation? OK, maybe there's a slight inconvenience where
- 25:38Speaker 1: The lift broke down and you were, you need to
- 25:40Speaker 1: be at this place or you need to be at
- 25:42Speaker 1: a house party or a meeting. Got a text coming
- 25:45Speaker 1: in from Damon. Good morning, my favorite NDP MCs. Hello sweet,
- 25:50Speaker 1: so sweet of you. Morning. I have a Chinese phrase
- 25:53Speaker 1: for y'all on today's topic. OK, I'm gonna read it. OK. OK,
- 25:56Speaker 1: let me try. Let me try. Here we go, um, soon.
- 26:01Speaker 1: The first word wrong already lah what's the word shui
- 26:07Speaker 1: tiy pen.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Really, yeah, really, is that what it is? I pen.
- 26:13Speaker 1: It means to adapt to changing circumstances. She, you looked
- 26:17Speaker 1: it up. That's right. Yes, OK, I thought you could
- 26:20Speaker 1: read it immediately like any other non-Chinese person would do.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Can you not at me like this, to adapt to
- 26:27Speaker 1: changing circumstances, to think on your feet or to improvise
- 26:31Speaker 1: based on the situation and like Bruce Lee, be like water,
- 26:36Speaker 1: my friend.
- 26:38Speaker 1: I did. I was quite fluid that day until I
- 26:40Speaker 1: fell on the ground. Yeah, that was me. That one
- 26:43Speaker 1: we can't help you. I know. Um, in just a bit,
- 26:47Speaker 1: we're gonna hear from Max who's hanging on the line, 669-11987.
- 26:51Speaker 1: We'd love to hear from you if, if, uh, there's
- 26:53Speaker 1: a slight inconvenience, the lift broke down, or maybe you
- 26:56Speaker 1: have to take the overhead bridge, climb some stairs to
- 26:58Speaker 1: get to a cafe. Will you change your plans or
- 27:01Speaker 1: will you wait it out?
- 27:01Speaker 1: Or will you climb? Let us know. Phone lines are
- 27:04Speaker 1: still open, 669-11987. In exchange, a $100 dining experience to
- 27:09Speaker 1: Gypsy at one Fullerton. Just recapping what happened to me
- 27:13Speaker 1: earlier in the week where not only did I fall
- 27:16Speaker 1: and almost face planted, um, I also came into a
- 27:19Speaker 1: situation where the lifts going up to my Pilates studio
- 27:21Speaker 1: broke down. So I had to climb three floors' worth
- 27:23Speaker 1: of stairs, not that bad, to be honest, but
- 27:27Speaker 1: Reminded me of those times where um you could be
- 27:29Speaker 1: in a a building that's much taller, or maybe a
- 27:33Speaker 1: cafe that requires you to like cross an overhead bridge
- 27:36Speaker 1: and walk quite a distance or climb up a hill.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Do these things inconvenience you and will you change your plans?
- 27:42Speaker 1: I don't know why, but I should say well done
- 27:44Speaker 1: climbing the stairs. Well done. Thank you. Thank you. Got
- 27:48Speaker 1: a text coming in here from, uh, from Alice who says, hey,
- 27:51Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim, last month I went on a riding
- 27:55Speaker 1: trip to Thailand. We were in Batong, hopefully I'm saying
- 27:59Speaker 1: it correctly.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And my buddy suggested riding to a bridge to take
- 28:03Speaker 1: some photos. Unfortunately, the road was closed because of a
- 28:07Speaker 1: carnival further ahead, so we were forced to ride uphill.
- 28:12Speaker 1: When it was time to go uphill, I stayed on
- 28:14Speaker 1: my bike for almost 5 minutes because the slope was
- 28:17Speaker 1: so steep. My biggest concern wasn't whether I could make
- 28:21Speaker 1: it down.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I was terrified I'd lose control and crashed into someone
- 28:25Speaker 1: at the bottom. Plus, we don't really have slopes like
- 28:28Speaker 1: that here in Singapore. To make things worse, there was
- 28:30Speaker 1: a sign that said the gradient was only 8%. The 8%
- 28:34Speaker 1: felt like a 45 degree slope. Ah, OK, that's scary.
- 28:38Speaker 1: That's scary. Um, I've experienced a similar situation snowboarding before.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Where, you know, sometimes when you're not familiar with the place, right,
- 28:46Speaker 1: and you go off on your own, um, the signs
- 28:49Speaker 1: are few and far between. Like you need to know like, OK,
- 28:52Speaker 1: this is a green slope which is easy, or a
- 28:55Speaker 1: black or a red, that's difficult, right? One wrong turn
- 28:59Speaker 1: and you could go down the wrong slope and there's
- 29:00Speaker 1: no other way of going back except to go down.
- 29:04Speaker 1: You get what I mean, right? So I feel Alice's situation.
- 29:09Speaker 1: But um she eventually did it, I think, right? Of
- 29:11Speaker 1: course she had to go down. She sent some photos
- 29:14Speaker 1: you can't stay there forever. This is the kind of
- 29:16Speaker 1: inconvenience that you have no other solution but to go down.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Max is on the line line. What happens? This actually
- 29:23Speaker 1: happens to me yesterday during 120. I packed some lunch
- 29:28Speaker 1: bag for me and my son. Then after that, so
- 29:31Speaker 1: it happens to there's 7 lifts in my block all
- 29:34Speaker 1: went out. Was it a short circuit or what? Yeah,
- 29:37Speaker 1: I'm kind of, and then it also affects the block
- 29:39Speaker 1: that is opposite mine, and I'm living on.
- 29:43Speaker 1: On the 16th floor. Oh no, that's quite high, man. Well,
- 29:46Speaker 1: that's all your cardio and steps done for the day, Max.
- 29:49Speaker 1: So how, what happened in the end? In the end,
- 29:51Speaker 1: I wait in my car until the lift came back,
- 29:54Speaker 1: so it was about almost 3 hours later. You waited
- 29:58Speaker 1: in your car for 3 hours and you didn't because
- 30:00Speaker 1: you didn't want to climb the stairs. Yes. Hello, Max, your,
- 30:04Speaker 1: your son's lunch, how?
- 30:06Speaker 1: Um, she's still sleeping anyway. Oh. Wow. Shout out to
- 30:11Speaker 1: all the Grab delivery men and all the parcel deliveries
- 30:13Speaker 1: who had to climb 16 flights of stairs just in case. Yeah, exactly.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Talking about whether or not you've been inconvenienced before by
- 30:20Speaker 1: a lift breaking down, for example, like what I experienced
- 30:24Speaker 1: earlier in the week. Um, thankfully, I only had to
- 30:26Speaker 1: climb 3 flights or 6 flights of.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Stairs because each floor is like two flights. So, for example,
- 30:32Speaker 1: for example, if the hawker center is across the street,
- 30:36Speaker 1: but you can't jaywalk because it's all fenced up and
- 30:38Speaker 1: you have to climb an overhead, you must take the
- 30:40Speaker 1: overhead bridge. I might change my mind though, like legit,
- 30:43Speaker 1: I might just end up eating something else from the supermarket,
- 30:46Speaker 1: just tapao something from 7-Eleven or grab delivery, yeah, from
- 30:49Speaker 1: that same hawker center, yeah, yes.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Sonia, maybe I'm saying maybe haven't been in that situation yet. OK, OK.
- 30:57Speaker 1: One coming in from Hamir. Morning, Sonia and Joakim and Sonia,
- 31:01Speaker 1: there was once I had the exact same situation as you.
- 31:04Speaker 1: 8 years ago, I lived in a 4-story flat in Yishun.
- 31:09Speaker 1: One time I tripped and almost hit my head at
- 31:10Speaker 1: the stairs.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Edge. Luckily I held on to the wall to keep
- 31:14Speaker 1: myself from falling. There was no lift at that time
- 31:18Speaker 1: during my stay in the area of Yishun. Oh no, that's,
- 31:23Speaker 1: that's a challenge. Maybe that was before the upgrading works, yeah. Yeah, um, well, my,
- 31:27Speaker 1: my parents' place in Pasir Ris also, it took a
- 31:30Speaker 1: while for them to
- 31:31Speaker 1: Have the car park lift developed actually. So it's quite
- 31:35Speaker 1: a challenge if you come back at a peak hour
- 31:38Speaker 1: time or you come back late, right? Good luck, man.
- 31:40Speaker 1: I used to remember I have to drive up and
- 31:42Speaker 1: like go up all the way almost to the rooftop.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I think I parked at the roof once, and that's
- 31:47Speaker 1: just very time-consuming. If anything, a long time ago, I
- 31:51Speaker 1: think your HDBs, they had lifts that go to level one.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Level 369, 12. And then maybe in the early 2000s
- 32:01Speaker 1: and late 2000s, that's where all the upgrading works happened,
- 32:04Speaker 1: lived on every floor. Exactly. So very, very thankful for that. Um,
- 32:08Speaker 1: saying hi over here to Will, you said, morning guys.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I drive to the gym at Safra. It's a two-minute drive,
- 32:15Speaker 1: but priorities, man. Oh my God.
- 32:19Speaker 1: This one next level. I'm you. I'm you. I'm exactly
- 32:22Speaker 1: like that, OK? I just don't want to like perspire
- 32:25Speaker 1: before I get to the gym. Wait, yeah, the gym
- 32:28Speaker 1: is 2 minutes away. No, it's a 2 minute drive,
- 32:30Speaker 1: means it's a 10 minute walk. Boom. See, why not
- 32:34Speaker 1: walk as a warm-up? I, I don't need. I go
- 32:37Speaker 1: there and warm up already.
- 32:39Speaker 1: And besides, I don't go to the gym.
- 32:43Speaker 1: I don't go to the gym. I mean, when I
- 32:45Speaker 1: go to Pilates studio, that's different, right? Like I don't
- 32:47Speaker 1: want to be sweating like crazy. OK, anyway, in terms
- 32:51Speaker 1: of today's callers and texters, when it comes to a
- 32:53Speaker 1: minor minor inconvenience changing everything, I think Wilson, give it
- 32:59Speaker 1: to you lah.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Driving 2 minutes to the gym just because probably you
- 33:05Speaker 1: don't want to perspire or it's an inconvenience if you
- 33:08Speaker 1: have to walk 10 minutes. So I said, why not
- 33:10Speaker 1: walk there as a warm-up? Wilson replies, then he must
- 33:14Speaker 1: walk back.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I like the way you think, Wilson. Facts, facts. Wilson,
- 33:20Speaker 1: this gypsy meal is coming your way. Please have a
- 33:22Speaker 1: good one over at Fuller. It's the perfect after-work spot.
- 33:25Speaker 1: You get happy hour specials that start from just $12
- 33:29Speaker 1: between 3 to 6 p.m. and complimentary chicken karage with
- 33:32Speaker 1: every two regular price alcoholic drinks. Some very sad food news.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Let's go joking. OK, 123 news news ghost in the studio.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Sonia with the sad news is scaring me. You don't wrong,
- 33:52Speaker 1: wrong month. July. Um, so you'll be familiar with the
- 33:56Speaker 1: restaurant Carnivore. Oh, very familiar. I wonder. Do you want
- 34:00Speaker 1: to give, do you want to share the lore? I, I,
- 34:03Speaker 1: I wonder which, uh, eager 21 year old brought out
- 34:06Speaker 1: an eighteen-year-old girl for a date there. I wonder who
- 34:10Speaker 1: just FYI it's, it's. This was like many years ago.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Um, so, nonsense, and the funny thing is, years later
- 34:18Speaker 1: when we became really good friends, Joakim realized I'm not
- 34:20Speaker 1: a big meat eater. Yeah, yeah, what a waste of money.
- 34:24Speaker 1: What a waste of time. I still ate I ate,
- 34:28Speaker 1: muscule portions, not as much as you would have expected.
- 34:30Speaker 1: I'm more of a carbie barbie, you know. Anyway, um,
- 34:34Speaker 1: Brazil to a farm next time.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Shut up. Brazilian barbecue buffet restaurant, Carnivore.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Has um officially decided to close by the end of
- 34:46Speaker 1: September in 2026. After 20 years, we're saying yet another goodbye. OK,
- 34:53Speaker 1: so don't be confused. There's one called Carnivore and there's
- 34:56Speaker 1: one called Brazil over at Sixth Avenue. That one's an institution.
- 35:01Speaker 1: It's been there forever. But OK, because it is a
- 35:04Speaker 1: Brazilian way of doing this, the meat, um, this particular
- 35:09Speaker 1: restaurant called Carnival Brazilian.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Mascara is closing its doors, but it's different from the
- 35:15Speaker 1: other one that you're talking about. Well, um, it just
- 35:18Speaker 1: says that it's, it's closing after 20 incredible years, and
- 35:21Speaker 1: we're covering our final slice. They opened first in Vivo City,
- 35:25Speaker 1: as you know already. They just thanked them for like,
- 35:27Speaker 1: thanked the customers for one final feast. They didn't really
- 35:29Speaker 1: say why. I'm guessing maybe the owners, you know, they've
- 35:33Speaker 1: been doing this for a long time, maybe they're retiring,
- 35:35Speaker 1: I don't know, but no real reason given to why
- 35:38Speaker 1: they're shutting. But if you want to dine for the
- 35:40Speaker 1: final time.
- 35:40Speaker 1: You're recommended to make a reservation because I think a
- 35:43Speaker 1: lot of people are going to hung there to have
- 35:45Speaker 1: one final meal. OK, when does it close? Oh, it's
- 35:48Speaker 1: closing by the end of September of this year. Yeah,
- 35:50Speaker 1: we're going. We should, we should make a video or like,
- 35:54Speaker 1: did we take any photos on the day that we
- 35:56Speaker 1: didn't it? OK, we did not, but it's not the
- 35:58Speaker 1: one over at Vivo. I know, I know. Where's the other, OK,
- 36:01Speaker 1: so this one is over a year, right. Yeah, I
- 36:04Speaker 1: think it's real. Hold on, let me check. Yeah, the
- 36:06Speaker 1: River Walk, the River Walk at Robertson Key. Let's go. Yeah.
- 36:10Speaker 1: So the one we went to is Vivo City. Memory sick.
- 36:12Speaker 1: I know. Let's try and recreate a moment there and
- 36:15Speaker 1: laugh about it. And this time the meat. Don't go
- 36:18Speaker 1: there and eat vegetables. I, I need my veggies, dude.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Like they have good vegetables, right? Yeah, yeah, it's nice, but, but,
- 36:24Speaker 1: but the main point of the meat buffet is the
- 36:27Speaker 1: meat and I know, but I just can't process that
- 36:29Speaker 1: much meat, OK.
- 36:31Speaker 1: I, I need the vegetables to balance it out. That's
- 36:33Speaker 1: why I say bring it to a farm. Can you,
- 36:36Speaker 1: can you stop it? Why you make me sound like
- 36:37Speaker 1: a guinea pig or some llama or some sort of
- 36:40Speaker 1: an alpaca just chomping on raw vegetables, paddy fields and
- 36:45Speaker 1: backyard vegetables. But first, opening up phone lines for something
- 36:48Speaker 1: that's going to happen a little sooner. Um, it's gonna.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Be Legally Blonde, the musical staged here in Singapore with
- 36:55Speaker 1: a fantastic cast. We've had three of them here in
- 36:57Speaker 1: the studio just yesterday. Nanya Ong, Nathan Atono, and Riley. Yes,
- 37:01Speaker 1: you can catch up with it on Me Listen and Spotify,
- 37:03Speaker 1: but for now, your last chance to walk away with tickets. Um,
- 37:06Speaker 1: it's a pair of tickets. They're worth almost $250. So
- 37:09Speaker 1: why not just go enjoy, have a good laugh. It's
- 37:11Speaker 1: a feel-good show.
- 37:12Speaker 1: The August 4th run of Legally Blonde, the musical over
- 37:16Speaker 1: at the Esplanade Theater. Yeah, OK, so give us a
- 37:19Speaker 1: call right now, 669-11987, loosely based off the plot and
- 37:24Speaker 1: the storyline of Legally Blonde. If you were to make
- 37:28Speaker 1: a midlife career switch right now, like whatever it is
- 37:31Speaker 1: you've been doing for the past few years, drop it.
- 37:33Speaker 1: And switch industries completely, what would you do? Just get
- 37:36Speaker 1: creative with it. OK? Yeah, why not, right? Let us know.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Call us right now, 669-119-87. You could be walking away
- 37:44Speaker 1: with the final pair of tickets that we have here
- 37:46Speaker 1: courtesy of our friends over at SRT. Very excited to
- 37:50Speaker 1: share this Legally Blonde, the musical experience with our listeners
- 37:53Speaker 1: this entire week. So, our question for you today is,
- 37:56Speaker 1: Loosely based off the plot of Legally Blonde. If you
- 37:59Speaker 1: had to make a midlife career switch right now and
- 38:01Speaker 1: do the total opposite or something completely different from what
- 38:04Speaker 1: you've been doing for the past few years, what would
- 38:06Speaker 1: it be? Desmond is on the line. Go ahead, tell us.
- 38:10Speaker 2: OK, uh, currently I'm a teacher, but my students always
- 38:13Speaker 2: say I am a bit too hyperactive for a teacher. OK,
- 38:16Speaker 2: I need to be more serious.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Uh, about where I can channel this energy to. So, uh,
- 38:23Speaker 2: there are few options. One is, uh, because I like
- 38:25Speaker 2: to share. So I want one is either a stand-up
- 38:29Speaker 2: comedian or the other one would be like a motivational
- 38:33Speaker 2: speaker so I can I can coach, you know, and
- 38:35Speaker 2: get everybody all hyped up and rah rah, and then, uh, yeah,
- 38:38Speaker 2: then I can spread the, the good vibes and energy to.
- 38:41Speaker 2: For the fellow students,
- 38:43Speaker 1: Desmond, I want to say this, I would love a
- 38:46Speaker 1: hyperactive teacher, you know, a teacher with good energy as
- 38:49Speaker 1: compared to the boring ones just standing there doing nothing.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Hey man, I hope to see you in your, um,
- 38:56Speaker 1: new era next time, be it stand-up or be it motivational.
- 39:00Speaker 1: We will be there, OK, the first two at your show. Congratulations.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Winner today. Legally Blonde tickets, a pair of that coming
- 39:09Speaker 1: your way, about $250. For more info, log on to SRT.com. OK,
- 39:15Speaker 1: so with the World Cup ending, I'm gonna say this,
- 39:18Speaker 1: tourism in places like Norway and Cabo Verde gonna increase,
- 39:23Speaker 1: is it? Gonna increase. Oh, that's nice. I think people
- 39:26Speaker 1: want to go there and really explore Norway and hopefully
- 39:28Speaker 1: they can see.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Sterling Harland in person. Yeah, yeah, I mean, he, he's
- 39:33Speaker 1: literally what you think a Viking would be. If I
- 39:36Speaker 1: was the Ministry of Tourism for Norway, I would assign
- 39:39Speaker 1: Harland as my poster boy straight away. I will start
- 39:41Speaker 1: shooting campaigns with him already. Yeah, well, I'm surprised. Have
- 39:44Speaker 1: they not done that yet already? Maybe they will. I'm
- 39:46Speaker 1: sure he's quite expensive though at this point. If I'm
- 39:49Speaker 1: not wrong, um, he doubled in Instagram followers over the.
- 39:53Speaker 1: World Cup and I'm talking in the millions. Like he had,
- 39:56Speaker 1: what was it 20 or 30 million initially. Now he's
- 39:59Speaker 1: doubled to 70 million followers, more than some football clubs.
- 40:04Speaker 1: That's a few countries combined. Yeah, so well done to you,
- 40:07Speaker 1: Erling Harland and for Cape Verde as well. And don't
- 40:10Speaker 1: be surprised if your grandparents or parents actually watched the
- 40:15Speaker 1: screening of Dear You, whether in Teochew or in Mandarin.
- 40:20Speaker 1: According to travel agencies, it has sparked interest in China
- 40:24Speaker 1: heritage tours. What? Actually, I mean, even without that, right,
- 40:29Speaker 1: in the recent years, there's been a really massive increase
- 40:32Speaker 1: in tourism in China. Like people just really want to
- 40:35Speaker 1: go and see how they are. Like there's supposedly some
- 40:38Speaker 1: areas in China are super high tech, man. So tour
- 40:40Speaker 1: agencies that specializes in.
- 40:42Speaker 1: China tours, they've seen an increase in inquiries about 15%
- 40:47Speaker 1: to Chaoshan, where it was being filmed where the movie
- 40:51Speaker 1: Dear You was filmed. So it's, it's, I'm assuming it's
- 40:53Speaker 1: a bit more like what nature related, is it like
- 40:55Speaker 1: is it peaceful and quiet or people who speak Teochew,
- 40:58Speaker 1: if they're of that dialect and ancestry, they might want
- 41:02Speaker 1: to go and just explore the place. So I mean,
- 41:03Speaker 1: I don't speak the dialect, but I love Teochew food.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Like, love, in fact, I think that a couple of
- 41:09Speaker 1: Teochew restaurants in Singapore that are pretty solid as well, um,
- 41:13Speaker 1: might be on the pricier side for some, but I
- 41:16Speaker 1: think the food is really good. Why wouldn't I be
- 41:18Speaker 1: surprised if I were to catch the Teochew screening of
- 41:20Speaker 1: Dear You? I feel like having Teochew after. Imagine if
- 41:23Speaker 1: I married a guy with the surname Teo and literally
- 41:26Speaker 1: would be Teo and Chew would be Teochew.
- 41:29Speaker 1: No lah, but it's Chew surname. Oh, right. Talk rubbish
- 41:34Speaker 1: on air sometimes. Let's just stick to Chewng. Can you not?
- 41:37Speaker 1: That literally means hand paint in Hokkien.
