- 0:54So. So how are you doing today,
- 0:56ma'am? Just getting rid of my suntan
- 1:01ish that I got burnt over memorial weekend.
- 1:04Still a little pink little juicy.
- 1:07I wait you can see I'm tanning crispy.
- 1:10I was feeling so bad at the beginning of the week.
- 1:13I don't know what happened, like how I burnt that bad.
- 1:17I'm usually a good like just a little bit of sun.
- 1:22Wear some sunscreen if I remember, like especially if I'm
- 1:25out in the heat, heat sun like direct sunlight.
- 1:29I'm like, yeah, put on your sunscreen because I'm fair.
- 1:31I'm a fair Lily when. Are like my children and my
- 1:36husband. Yeah, we don't have the the
- 1:39Italian skin. I'm tanning, I'm tanning.
- 1:42Red or white? As you can see, I'm I'm, I'm
- 1:45tanning because look, you can see the difference.
- 1:48I'm already, and this is only from just being out mousing.
- 1:52I'm just crisping over here. Well, fried chicken crisp.
- 1:57My husband there, well, Daniel, he, he burns too, but he's been
- 2:01out like so much outside. He kind of has like the Farber
- 2:06tan kind of, but it's not like tan like I am.
- 2:09I think it's more like freckles, you know, kind of thing that has
- 2:13given him more of the illusion of a tan.
- 2:18He did not put sunscreen on the back of his heck as he wears his
- 2:21baseball hat, you know, and you know how like on the back of the
- 2:23hats they have that opening. And he had like a little like I
- 2:28told him, I said, you need to make sure when you wear those,
- 2:31those particular hats, you need to put sunscreen on that part of
- 2:34your head and the top of his ears because he he will burn and
- 2:38it then it, it just peels. I I will burn.
- 2:41I'm not saying I won't burn. I'm sure I will at some point
- 2:45here this summer. I will get a little too much sun
- 2:47and I will burn, but it quickly turns to to tan for me.
- 2:52Yeah, and that's how I usually am.
- 2:55It is like I go out and like little waves of time and like
- 2:59absorb some sun, get a little red kind of pinks.
- 3:03But I have not been burnt like this in so long.
- 3:07I don't know what happened. I was in the pool.
- 3:09Maybe it was just like a really reflective day at the beach.
- 3:13I don't know. So.
- 3:15What got you was the reflection off the water and that's
- 3:17probably what burnt you. Because I was only out for maybe
- 3:20an hour and then I had to go in with the kids, you know, and get
- 3:23naps going and stuff. So I don't know what happened.
- 3:26Now I seen on the on Instagram because you know, people post
- 3:30all kinds of interesting things and I'm like, why don't I do
- 3:33this? Because my bathtub in my bath
- 3:36master bathroom, it's not like a deep, deep bathtub.
- 3:39They have I seen it. They're portable bathtubs.
- 3:43I don't know if you see it because like I guess people
- 3:45could do it with camping, but they have like designs on it
- 3:48that doesn't feel like they would go for like a camping
- 3:50vibe. But you can buy them and you can
- 3:53fill up, put it actually in your bathtub, fill it up.
- 3:56So you can have like the deep soaker thing if you don't have a
- 4:00soaker tub. For thing I have not seen that.
- 4:03They're like 60 bucks on Amazon but you have to watch wherever
- 4:08your drain is in your tub which one you buy.
- 4:12Some of them have the drain at the front of the tub and some
- 4:16have it on the side like mine. I'd have to have it at the side
- 4:19because my drain is in this is on the is in the middle of my my
- 4:24tub. Sorry I don't like that would be
- 4:26super fun. And they're insulated, so they
- 4:28hold the heat. Cool.
- 4:30I know. That might be worth looking
- 4:33into. I want one of those and I want
- 4:35one of those mats that does The Jets, the bubble jets.
- 4:37Yeah, I've seen those, yeah. Because I would never have a
- 4:40bathtub with The Jets already in it.
- 4:42Have you? See how filthy?
- 4:44Those are. Had one of those and I did not
- 4:47like it. Yeah, they don't work very well.
- 4:51A lot of upkeep and then yes, they do get gunky.
- 4:54If you don't regularly like cycle it, those pipes are going
- 4:58to like sit so. I've watched some again, I watch
- 5:02stuff on Instagram and they were gross.
- 5:04My nephew got E coli sickness from their jet tub and he had to
- 5:12be hospitalized for a couple days from E coli in.
- 5:15The tub tub. We'll see.
- 5:16Again, there's another reason I will not have one of those so
- 5:20this so. Be careful, clean those out
- 5:23regularly. Well, that's why I'm thinking
- 5:25and it's like it's like a pillow kind of thing, you know, so it's
- 5:28like you put it behind you and it's all full of The Jets and
- 5:32you hook it up like on the side of your tub and it pumps the air
- 5:35and then you can have the the bubbles.
- 5:36Yeah, So I don't know. I I see a lot of things on
- 5:40Instagram that I want to do what I ever do them do.
- 5:43I put them on this in AM on a. Lot of things, yes, but that was
- 5:49my. I think that would even be fun,
- 5:51like in the summertime to like have two of those tubs and set
- 5:55them outside because they just collapse.
- 5:57And then just maybe my neighbors, my neighbors might
- 6:03have an interesting view of that.
- 6:05Well, we have like an inflatable pool that we put in the back for
- 6:08like the kids and stuff like that.
- 6:10But but I wish we had room that we could actually have an actual
- 6:13pool pool. But our yard is not big enough.
- 6:16Yeah. And we're not.
- 6:17I don't think we're allowed with our HOA to have one in here
- 6:20because the yards aren't big enough.
- 6:22Yeah, I mean, you don't want to step out your door right into
- 6:25the pool, so it makes sense, but.
- 6:28I would do it though, but someday that's that's the dream.
- 6:31Again, I told you this is not forever house.
- 6:33This is the beginning house. Forever house will have either a
- 6:37hot tub or will have a swimming pool, but my husband would
- 6:40prefer a swimming pool. So that's the dream.
- 6:43So that's. So what are you reading right
- 6:45now? I'm going to show you what I'm
- 6:46reading. I'm I'm reading.
- 6:51That's what I'm reading. Oh nice.
- 6:53I have been not reading physical books lately and.
- 6:56You've been doing a lot of audio books.
- 6:58Yes, because my kids interrupt me.
- 7:01And at least with the audio book, you can kind of go back
- 7:06and get your interests while I'm doing, like, chores and stuff.
- 7:10You can't do chores while you're reading the physical book.
- 7:12I mean, you could, but it's pretty hard.
- 7:13If you have soapy hands, you're reading a book.
- 7:17Yeah, I'm just all over the place right now with my kids.
- 7:21They like to the littlest ones to like stick his hand down his
- 7:25butt and show me that he has poop instead of just coming up
- 7:28to me and saying I have poop. Change me.
- 7:31He's only what, 22 months? So I mean, he goes, oh, Yucky's.
- 7:38Do you think he's going to want no time?
- 7:40Do you think he's going to want a potty train soon since?
- 7:43He doesn't. Like it?
- 7:45With the 2 year old, because I have the one and two year old,
- 7:48so the two year old will be 3 in July and so this summer since
- 7:52it'll be warmer, we can kind of do the P wherever outside even
- 7:58kind of situation. Boys are easy kind of like that.
- 8:01Not always, but I'm going to try potty training so we'll see.
- 8:07The one, the one year old does everything the 2 year old does.
- 8:09Anyways. That's why my house is a
- 8:11disaster and I'm constantly running around fixing things,
- 8:16finding what they're up to, dealing with poop in one room
- 8:20and the other one's, you know, doing something and taking
- 8:23things out of the cabinet and the other room.
- 8:25It's really eventful throughout the day, just not in a way I
- 8:30would enjoy, like reading different characters throughout
- 8:33the day, but yeah. So oh, absolutely.
- 8:37But I think that. Might you might have been
- 8:38cleaning a lot I. Think you might do you might do
- 8:43well because if he does want to see what his brother's doing, he
- 8:46may, he may do well. Now my, my oldest, he did really
- 8:51well. My middle one, not as much
- 8:53because he was, he just had no interest in it.
- 8:57So he took longer. But then my youngest, Sir, she
- 9:00did, but it's a girl. It's different.
- 9:03She did really well. She was, she had turned 2 and
- 9:07right after she turned 2, it was like 6 weeks.
- 9:11Whatever weird little potty they trained her as.
- 9:13Fast. It was fast but it was a girl
- 9:15again so but the boys it was mainly I had to put Cheerios and
- 9:19stuff in the toilet so they could aim it right and learn.
- 9:22How a lot of bribery with toys and M&M's, and I mean, just a
- 9:27lot of bribing and but the oldest one caught on.
- 9:32I want to say what he was like 3:00-ish when he finally caught
- 9:36on to it and started getting better at it.
- 9:39But I had to bribe him with a lot of monster trucks.
- 9:41So that happened. We'll see what the second one
- 9:45wants to do. He's also stubborn and like when
- 9:48you're like, hey, come on, come over here.
- 9:49He's at that stage right now where he runs away from you and
- 9:52thinks it's funny. Yes, yeah, that could be
- 9:55aggravating or funny and play along.
- 9:58But most of the time it's like when you need them to do
- 10:01something like, hey, you have poop in your diaper.
- 10:04Come here now. Let's change this.
- 10:05And he's like, let me run around the house with a poopy diaper
- 10:08some more. Well, my oldest there because,
- 10:13because our kids are very similar age wise.
- 10:16You know, I, I had just one more year.
- 10:18I'm five year there and three within 5.
- 10:21You have 3 within 4 when we would go places because a lot of
- 10:25times it was just me, not because, you know, my husband
- 10:27was working and that kind of stuff.
- 10:29Oh my God, I had to get the little backpack thing that went
- 10:33on my oldest that had the leash. Do you know what I'm talking
- 10:36about? I thought.
- 10:37About it, I'm telling you, Rebecca, we went to the grocery
- 10:41store this week, all three of them.
- 10:44And was it just you? It was just me.
- 10:48Thank God it was a store that I know and like I could go around
- 10:52and just kind of grab the staples that we need.
- 10:54But Oh my gosh, it it was like, don't touch that.
- 10:58Stop touching everything. You know, they go down the aisle
- 11:00and they have to like. You don't put them all in the
- 11:03cart at the same you don't put them all in the cart.
- 11:05They don't all fit in the cart with the groceries.
- 11:08See three of them. Well, see, that was well see a
- 11:12lot of my grocery shopping because I go to Costco a lot,
- 11:15I'd have all three of them in the cart.
- 11:17Dominic would always sit in the basket, you know the big part.
- 11:20And then the other two would sit because they're side by side and
- 11:24I. Would just have the bigger and I
- 11:26would. Strap them in because they
- 11:28couldn't get because little Peanut.
- 11:30She always wanted to get up on her knees and turn around, but I
- 11:34had to have her strapped in. But no, I think you should
- 11:38consider the little backpack that I'm.
- 11:41I'm telling you, it helps because then they can't take off
- 11:44from you and they're only so they are always close.
- 11:47I know it's whatever. Some people have faces about it,
- 11:50but a lot of those people don't have children and they haven't
- 11:54had that many like or they don't.
- 11:57Care leashed on your kid or do you want them to like push over
- 12:01the display table and have boxes all over the floor and you feel
- 12:06embarrassed because of that? You know they were getting the
- 12:09two oldest were walking. The baby was in the cart like
- 12:14seated next to me that way, and I would help.
- 12:18I would be like, OK, grab this, grab that.
- 12:20And they were helpful at first. Then they started fighting with
- 12:23each other. Then they started wanting these
- 12:24snacks and those snacks and fighting over the snacks and who
- 12:28got to hold the snack. And then they were like brawling
- 12:31at one time by the registers. And I was like, we just need to
- 12:35go down this one last aisle. We're leaving.
- 12:38And I was like, like I was hurrying through my.
- 12:42Oldest we would go, this was years ago when he was little, we
- 12:45would shop at Sam's Club at that point and we were in there and I
- 12:49don't know because he was like 3, maybe a little over 3 because
- 12:53I'm going to say my middle, he was a baby baby or like in a in
- 12:58the car seat that I could set the car seat, you know, in the
- 13:00cart, you know. So because I wasn't trying to
- 13:04carry him both and I would keep him in the, you know, carry, you
- 13:06know, carry him. And my oldest was bad because
- 13:10anytime someone would talk to him, he would spit on people.
- 13:14We didn't spit at people. It wasn't like I was going
- 13:17outside spitting. I don't know why he did it and
- 13:19he thought it was hilarious. And there was this one lady by
- 13:25my husband worked with at the time and any time she talked to
- 13:29him, he would spit at her. And I was always like, Diane,
- 13:33I'm like, you cannot, I said, I know it's funny.
- 13:36I know it is, but you can't laugh.
- 13:38Not to laugh. I said please because I said we
- 13:40have to try to break him up this and and he just would not.
- 13:44It wasn't until we just didn't see Diane anymore and then he
- 13:49finally stop that. But Oh yeah, he would try to
- 13:52take off and and things like that.
- 13:55Oh yeah, but I was that kid though.
- 13:57That's why it was a monkey, like a little backpack and it was a
- 14:01monkey. And I had to because like if we
- 14:03would go for a walk, you know, even just when I had the two of
- 14:06them, you know, once in the stroller and then the monkey.
- 14:10And then after I had then when I had my daughter, then I remember
- 14:15going to the mall and I had all three of them at Christmas time.
- 14:18I had her in October. So she would have been a baby
- 14:20baby. She was in the stroller.
- 14:22I had to put the middle 1. He had the monkey on and I had
- 14:26to hold on to him. And then I had my other son and
- 14:29he kept wanting to go under the clothes and stuff like at JC
- 14:31Penney's and stuff. And I felt like I was about half
- 14:34nuts and, and then the middle one.
- 14:37And then he, he was walking because he was like 2 1/2 at
- 14:40that point. But then he decided that it's
- 14:42always when he would want to fall over and stuff.
- 14:44And I'm trying to walk and I'm trying and then he's, it was not
- 14:47fun. So I, I understand 100% how you
- 14:52feel 100%. And it's, it's difficult when
- 14:55you, you know, if you have to go by yourself all the time with
- 14:58your kids, you know, because a lot of us, we don't have the
- 15:00luxury of having, you know, our, you know, our spouse or whatever
- 15:04with us because you know, they're working and you have to
- 15:07go. And I don't do things.
- 15:08Any family around that lives close that isn't working like
- 15:13during the week and IA lot of them are busy.
- 15:19Like even my brother who's a bachelor like he has the
- 15:21bachelor life. So it's not like and what I want
- 15:25him. I mean the kids are a little
- 15:26older now and he visits a lot. Like, he could probably like,
- 15:30hang out with the kids for an hour while I went somewhere, but
- 15:34but he works, you know? So I should ask family or
- 15:38babysitters or anything like that.
- 15:39We live kind of far away. But you should ask your brother,
- 15:43tell him, please do this for me. Let me have my vacation at the
- 15:47grocery store so I can go by myself.
- 15:49Because it becomes a vacation, you know, when you get to go.
- 15:54But no, I, I remember all those times I remember going.
- 15:58Yeah, going out with your kids to do something like that where
- 16:02it's not not like a play place for them to play and be
- 16:06themselves and you have to like keep them in line and be
- 16:11societal. It's it's a harder than like
- 16:15going by yourself, boy, yourself feels like, wow, I got a
- 16:19reprieve today. Like I didn't have to do this
- 16:22with the kids. This is great.
- 16:23Absolutely. I mean even now my kids are
- 16:25getting bigger now my oldest son, he's much, he helps and
- 16:29stuff like that. The middle one, he's, you know,
- 16:33with that halfway point, you know that, you know, he's 13
- 16:36now. He he helps, but sometimes he's
- 16:39not helpful. But now the little one, she,
- 16:42she's OK. I mean, now I should say, but
- 16:45before she would be just nuts when we would go places and
- 16:49things like that. That's why for the when they
- 16:53were really little, I did not take them to restaurants to sit
- 16:56and we would always get something out because I was, I
- 17:00was not going to well, I was not going to be.
- 17:02And they don't eat, they get up to wait.
- 17:05They don't want to wait for the food.
- 17:08And then it takes sometimes a long time, depending on what
- 17:11rest we go to. If we go out to dinner, it's
- 17:13usually with family. And then that's a bigger party.
- 17:16So then you're waiting longer for that bigger place settlement
- 17:21to come out. Absolutely.
- 17:23My kids are like, where's my food?
- 17:25I'm hungry. They've already drank, you know,
- 17:28all their tea and water and everything else and ready to get
- 17:31up and play. Well, you know, and then The
- 17:34thing is I don't want to go and have my kids mess up stuff
- 17:38everywhere or to throw anything because I couldn't leave the
- 17:43table like in a disaster. Like I have gone to restaurants
- 17:46and gone places with people that have children that are small and
- 17:49stuff. I understand you're about ready
- 17:51to fly the the the nest or fly the coop or whatever because
- 17:54you're being drove nuts, but I couldn't leave leave my table or
- 17:58the carpet underneath like some of the people I have seen.
- 18:02Like stupid, like destroyed. Yeah, and food all over the
- 18:05place and stuff. I'm not expecting the people
- 18:08that work at a restaurant to have to clean up after my
- 18:11children just. And I don't like that a lot
- 18:13more. Sorry, here's an extra button,
- 18:16not. Just, But no.
- 18:18That's why I just wouldn't do it again.
- 18:20I wasn't going to. I wasn't going to do that to
- 18:22those people. Yeah.
- 18:24And yeah, I mean, it's expensive to go out these days anyways.
- 18:27You take out three kids, three kids meals, that's so expensive,
- 18:30and then they don't eat it and then you take it home, they
- 18:34still don't eat it. So if I go out.
- 18:38And plus and then you'll get to a point too and that they won't
- 18:42like. Equal.
- 18:43No. No, like fun for me to be
- 18:47outside my house dealing with these kids throwing their food,
- 18:51not eating it, just wanting to get up and play and not sit down
- 18:55and have a meal. That's not to me.
- 18:58Fun. Like I don't get any joy out of
- 19:01that. All I do is get frustrated and
- 19:03pissed off and I want to scream at my kids.
- 19:05Like how is that healthy? Well, you know, like, like
- 19:07people say, oh, you have to take your kids places when they're
- 19:11really little. So they have experiences and
- 19:13they get, no, I mean, when they're really little, they
- 19:17don't know anything. They don't.
- 19:19Do you think they're going to have the memories of some of
- 19:21these places where they're that little?
- 19:23Absolutely not like the people that take the really, really
- 19:26little ones to Disney. What are you doing?
- 19:29Why are you torturing your story?
- 19:31For me, I will, I will stand on a coffee table for this one
- 19:35because I love Disney and I have brought my kids young to Disney.
- 19:40But it's for me and my joy. I don't care if they remember or
- 19:44not, I love seeing their little faces light up at the characters
- 19:48and seeing how people like how they react and things like that.
- 19:51And they could go on some of the smaller rides with you and
- 19:54that's really fun for me because I enjoyed, well, you.
- 19:57And that's my joy. As you know, I'm, I'm not big
- 20:00with people, you know, that big crowds and that kind of stuff.
- 20:03Rebecca, She doesn't do crowds. She.
- 20:05Don't do crowds. I just like I get like past.
- 20:08The only that's the only crowd I can I like to do and put up with
- 20:14because I also don't I get anxiety with crowds and even at
- 20:18Disney I can, I'll be like, motherfuckers better get out of
- 20:21my way right now. But I know where to go,
- 20:25especially Disneyland because I grew up there.
- 20:27So like I know where going. I know how to like finagle
- 20:30around a lot of the place. So I feel comfortable in that
- 20:34crowd, I guess, but. I guess like for me, like when
- 20:37they were little, you know, if I'm gonna, well, even now, I
- 20:41should say, even now, if I want to go somewhere and I want to
- 20:45experience something, I first I ask my kids, is this something
- 20:49going? Is this something you would
- 20:51enjoy? Yeah, and they're old enough now
- 20:53to ask. Oh yeah, And if they tell me no,
- 20:57because there's always one in the bunch, if like I, I have to
- 21:00say, if I take my kids individually to do something,
- 21:04they have a much better, fine, much better time.
- 21:08Now that would be the younger too, because I can't, they're
- 21:12not old enough to leave them by themselves to babysit or
- 21:15whatever. Like say like the two older one
- 21:17to go leave my youngest, I can't do that now.
- 21:20My oldest I can because sometimes he doesn't want to go
- 21:22and do stuff with us. But I will not be drove nuts.
- 21:26Like if we're going to do something, I will not do it.
- 21:29If we're going and everybody's in each other's throats and
- 21:33they're all right and they're crabby and I'm like, no, I'm not
- 21:37going to do this. I'm not going to.
- 21:40I do want to take them here, maybe here, maybe this coming
- 21:44month or whatever. I want to go South here in
- 21:48Kentucky. There's the battlefield, the
- 21:51Perry Hill Civil War battlefield.
- 21:53I want to go there. I want to go there because I
- 21:57like that kind of stuff. Yeah, but I'm.
- 21:59Good on the sidelines while you do your thing.
- 22:02I like going to see that. Yeah, bet me.
- 22:04I like to see that stuff. I went, I made them go and see
- 22:07an ancient Ice Age burial mound that's here in Kentucky.
- 22:11It's just a mound out in. The middle and you know it since
- 22:14you home school, that's home schooling.
- 22:16Absolutely them out into history lessons like that.
- 22:19You could make that a history lesson.
- 22:22Absolutely. Well, you have to, I have to
- 22:24show you something. The pictures from that Ice Age,
- 22:26again, I found it fascinating. But they said there's like like
- 22:301000 people are buried inside that mount and it's from the Ice
- 22:34Age. Think how long ago that is.
- 22:37I don't. I'm surprised no ones tried to
- 22:39like drill into it and find the people and stuff.
- 22:41Well, they must know how they're layered because they said they
- 22:44layer them like like layers of a cake, the dead.
- 22:47And that's what they do when they're these big mouths.
- 22:49And it's, it's just out in the, the middle of this cornfield.
- 22:53And the guy, because when we went, it was like it early in
- 22:57the spring kind, but it had like where he had mowed down all the
- 23:00corn. So he plants the corn up on the
- 23:03mound too. I'm like, that's weird because
- 23:06if you go on Google Maps, people pin stuff.
- 23:09So if you want to see interesting things that aren't
- 23:11necessarily labeled, but that is 1.
- 23:14So that's, I don't know, that's our fun.
- 23:17We're moms. These are the things we do, but.
- 23:20Anyways, this week I was listening.
- 23:24This week I was listening to this.
- 23:27Book Oh, you're listening to Book 2?
- 23:29Yeah. So what do you think?
- 23:32I devoured it. I really enjoyed it.
- 23:36I thought the character arc was good.
- 23:39I thought the long distance love relationship thing was well
- 23:43played to the to the love triangle and the love triangle
- 23:47was done well. It wasn't rushed and it felt
- 23:50genuine. And then the whole like leading
- 23:54up like she's in the rebellion and the leading up to it to like
- 23:59kind of more like devastating things.
- 24:01Like there was a lot of like action plot twist.
- 24:04My jaw literally like I was like tons of times like jaw unhinged.
- 24:10Moments is is that a duology or is it a trilogy?
- 24:15It's a trilogy. Hanger and I need book 3 now.
- 24:20Like I reread book 1 and then devoured this probably like 3
- 24:25days listening to it. Like I would play in bed
- 24:27listening to this because it was that captivating.
- 24:30And it's really funny because I when I went on Goodreads to do
- 24:34my review, I saw that there was a few one star reviews and like
- 24:38whatever could these be about, right.
- 24:43And someone was like, I hated the love triangle or I hated the
- 24:47love. Like there should have been more
- 24:49like epic romance and stuff. Like I don't think I think
- 24:53someone read the same book as I did because I saw the little red
- 24:56flags that were going off with the one relationship to make it
- 24:59change. Like I saw something coming,
- 25:02either betrayal or a breakup or like something was going to
- 25:06happen to somebody. Like there was there was
- 25:09something coming like, and it was well done, like well
- 25:12plotted. Like these little tiny seeds
- 25:15were there. So I don't know where people
- 25:17were like I hated that. Unless they're like true romance
- 25:21readers where they didn't the epic fantasy part of that or the
- 25:24dystopian fantasy. I guess it would be.
- 25:26And they were just like there for the love and then they got
- 25:29upset cuz then it goes into it's a very like war strategic book
- 25:35where they're in, you know, have you ever watched Hunger Games?
- 25:40The Catching Fire and what's the last one?
- 25:44Songbird. Songbird Catching Fire and I
- 25:48don't remember anymore Mockingjay I.
- 25:50Think is the last one, I think that is set, yeah.
- 25:52So think of like book two and three of Hunger Games, like the
- 25:56end there where they're like more war driven, right?
- 25:59Like you, you see her like in the bunkers and the war rooms
- 26:02and they're like trying to like, like there's the bad guy talking
- 26:09about stuff and like we're going to get rid of the rebellion
- 26:12people that are different than us.
- 26:13And then she's like in the war rooms trying to navigate what to
- 26:18do correctly and where she belongs and stuff like that.
- 26:22So. I didn't read the other.
- 26:23I haven't read that series yet. In Hunger Games or this one.
- 26:28Either what? No, I've watched The Hunger
- 26:30Games, the movies, never read them.
- 26:32But I never I didn't, because what's the first book?
- 26:37I think it's called Hunger Game. No, no, no, no.
- 26:38I'm talking about what you're reading right now.
- 26:39This. One quicks, not quicks, is it?
- 26:43Silver Elite, Silver Elite. OK, yeah, I had that on my list.
- 26:47But see, I've seen mixed reviews with it, yes.
- 26:51And so I never, I've never picked it up.
- 26:54Yeah, I first of all, they call people quats.
- 26:57That is hilarious to me. They call them like God fucking
- 27:01quats. That's different.
- 27:03I like that. Right.
- 27:05And instead of saying like agreed, they say keen, keen,
- 27:09keen with that keen. So it's got like some fun like
- 27:12verbiage, like different terminology to it.
- 27:16It is dystopian. So it's dystopian fantasy, but
- 27:20it's not magic per SE. Like they I think they call it
- 27:23magic. But what happened was the people
- 27:27there was a war with like radiation bombs and like some
- 27:30other chemicals, somethings where it changed the people's
- 27:33DNA's. And so there are some people
- 27:36that are human like us. And then there's some people who
- 27:39are genetically modified from the war and they have telepathic
- 27:44powers and they have different kinds of telepathic.
- 27:46So you could be like some of the interesting, yeah, or you could
- 27:50like tell the future or, you know, telepathy with different
- 27:54people or empathy of it could be your thing.
- 27:59So there's different kinds of genetically modified powers that
- 28:03you get. And then so it's like a war
- 28:06between the humans versus the modified, right?
- 28:09So like they're suppressing the modified, the humans are
- 28:12suppressing them because they can't trust them because they
- 28:15can get in your head. So then they, you know, want to
- 28:18fight back and be like, we can all live together these things.
- 28:21And then there's there are people like that.
- 28:23So there's like other factions that like live secretively that
- 28:27are like free love, like they remind me like 1970s.
- 28:30They like live like the old people do like our generations
- 28:34today. They live, they live free, no
- 28:37tech, stuff like that. And then you have another
- 28:39continent that these people trade with.
- 28:42And these guys are like your Catholics, like God loving
- 28:47people that are like your whole country.
- 28:51Like we'll work with you and trade with you, but your
- 28:54country's just like we're not ever coming together to fight
- 28:58any wars you guys have. Like we're, we're over here.
- 29:01We're God loving people and we're going to stay loving the
- 29:05old. Way that's how Book 1 is or is
- 29:08that going are you just saying? This.
- 29:09And that's the whole. Series, OK.
- 29:11Yeah. So that's like how the what's
- 29:15kind of going on? The first book is like her
- 29:18hiding because she was taken away from like the rebellion by
- 29:25her uncle and something and her parents died.
- 29:28So he like saves her and she hides.
- 29:32But then something happens where she has to go into the military
- 29:38part of the humans and they call them the Primes.
- 29:42And she has has to like be in this situation where she's
- 29:47training and like a secret agent and yes, to know the governor's
- 29:52son and things like that. And it does.
- 29:55Sound like a very interesting series.
- 29:57I might have to give it a. Charity sent kind of military.
- 30:01Driven now and book 2 just came out correct?
- 30:03That's why you were listening to it Just came.
- 30:07Oh God. It's going to be probably a bit
- 30:09then probably till book 3 because she hasn't said anything
- 30:13in regards to book 3 yet or anything, no.
- 30:15I haven't looked it up because I don't want to get disappointed.
- 30:20Well, now, now I'm reading now is Kingdoms of Silent Sorrows by
- 30:25AG Harris. That's what I started reading
- 30:27because she's actually going to be on the podcast here in June.
- 30:33She is amazing. I like, I love talking to her.
- 30:35She is like the sweetest person. This is very good.
- 30:37I'm just at the beginning of it. The first chapter is like it's
- 30:41like 50. Some pages is the 1st chapter,
- 30:44but it's kind of like things are happening like.
- 30:47It's not like straight world building, it's like straight
- 30:49like character. Actions.
- 30:51I don't know Now, this is the part I don't know.
- 30:53The people that I'm reading about in this chapter, I don't
- 30:57know if they are in through the rest of the book yet.
- 31:00I don't know because it's like this is they're like gods and
- 31:04they have to, I don't even know how to describe it.
- 31:07There's there's three gods at the beginning of it.
- 31:10The one is a female and she's talking and she did something
- 31:16that caused this war that's happening.
- 31:19And basically their type of people who they are, are going
- 31:24to be taken over by the elves. The elves are coming, they have
- 31:29bigger army. At some point they're going to
- 31:32be eradicated and she did something.
- 31:34What I don't know yet because I haven't gotten that.
- 31:36I don't know what she's done, but they're living in basically,
- 31:40from what I gather, like a city or where they're at and they're
- 31:44behind walls and all these gods are there.
- 31:48There's I don't know how many of them.
- 31:50I don't know how many there are there, but she's there and two
- 31:53of them are they like her a lot And, and they're talking about,
- 31:59well, what should we do? We have to be able to do
- 32:03something about this. We have to give ourselves a
- 32:06fighting chance kind of thing. And the one suggests that they
- 32:09open a portal and they go to this other world and they're
- 32:12like, that's blasphemy. We can't do that.
- 32:16And he's like, well, if we want to survive and to be able to
- 32:19come back for another day and raise an army and then come
- 32:23back, we have to do this. And then the other suggestion he
- 32:27had to to build this army and at because gods cannot have
- 32:31children together. They cannot, but that they
- 32:35should go and be with humans and have children.
- 32:39And they're like, that's blasphemy, all this kind of
- 32:42stuff. So something happens while
- 32:44they're having this discussion and it's basically like Time's
- 32:49Up kind of deal. And the one says he's going to
- 32:53go and he's going to try to get as many of the other gods that
- 32:56are there and try to get them to safety.
- 32:58But he told the other one, we both love her.
- 33:01You need to take her, go through the portal.
- 33:03And then I'm like 100 years later now because as you're
- 33:07following and it's interesting, just put it that way.
- 33:11It's good. So the prologue kind of ends on
- 33:14like a cliffhanger of like an like a big event.
- 33:18That's what I'm I'm assuming I'm in that whole big 50.
- 33:21Some pages I'm in. I haven't made it to the next
- 33:23chapter, but it's really good and I really like how she writes
- 33:27and it's very vivid and like when I'm hearing them talking
- 33:31like the the gods, I hear them like they're very proper and I
- 33:34just hear them. They're not talking like how you
- 33:36and I are talking conversation. Like when we read Quicksilver
- 33:40Karian Swift, I hear him like talking like how we talk.
- 33:43You know what I'm saying? These are much more like the
- 33:46horrible people, that kind of thing.
- 33:48But it's really but I have to say she's amazing.
- 33:51But I do know she has book 2 I believe written and she's on
- 33:55Breeze yes. So so they are will be coming
- 33:59soon. But again, she does all.
- 34:01All the all. The artwork and everything.
- 34:03She's she's amazing. And then I finished your path is
- 34:07sorrow. I flew through that one.
- 34:09I don't think I think I read it and not even a week.
- 34:12I got that one done. So I but I did order because I'm
- 34:15reading this. I can't I can't read more than
- 34:17one book at one time, So I have to finish this one.
- 34:20But then I do have book too, so I'm super excited about your
- 34:25path is sacrifice. It is so good.
- 34:28I know I can't read in that one. I love.
- 34:30Parker's writing love it if. You were OK.
- 34:33To all the indie authors listening, please.
- 34:37For the moms out there with young toddlers who can't hold a
- 34:41book or a Kindle and focus on reading, make audio books for
- 34:45me, please. I need audiobooks put put in the
- 34:49money. I will buy one.
- 34:51OK. They are worth it.
- 34:52And I know a lot of other moms too that like to do audiobooks
- 34:57in our like phase of life right now because it's it's something
- 35:03to kind of drown out a lot of the busy noise too.
- 35:06And you get your chores done faster and just kids are wild
- 35:12and you can't have physical things around.
- 35:14And the other thing we ask it is yet even if you are a person
- 35:17that you know does physical copy or Kindle in your have a time
- 35:22period between book 1 and book 2, etcetera, etcetera.
- 35:25Put a little synopsis from like a summary of what happened in
- 35:30the last book at the beginning, because we don't always have
- 35:34time to do a reread. And sometimes some of these
- 35:38books it's like a year or more between books.
- 35:42And that would be extremely helpful, even if it's like just
- 35:46a couple pages and just give us a rundown.
- 35:49Well, this is what happened the last time we were together, you
- 35:52know, and just go through and it, it would, it would help for
- 35:55a lot of people. And some people have memories
- 35:57like goldfish, they could read a book and then like you ask them
- 36:01a couple weeks later and they don't remember.
- 36:03So it's, it's, I think that would be extremely helpful as
- 36:06well. Yeah, I like when I did Silver
- 36:10Elite, I had to reread it. Like I remembered certain things
- 36:14of it and then I was like, but I know for Book 2 to have impact I
- 36:18need to do the reread because I remembered the end left us like
- 36:24in this like turmoil of the relationship.
- 36:26Did you reread it actually physical copy or did you do
- 36:29audio audio? Audio, do you?
- 36:31Listen to it at normal speed or do you have it go really fast?
- 36:34How fast do you have it going? Do they sound?
- 36:37On .7, no. If anything a lot of them.
- 36:44It depends. Some of them, if you have a fast
- 36:46narrator, you don't need to increase it very often. 1.5 is
- 36:53about my medium part, like because I'm a fast reader, so in
- 36:58my head, like if you talk to me like this, reading the book and
- 37:04then maybe only this much faster, when it gets really
- 37:09intense, I'm like, bitch, hurry up, 1.7, what's going on?
- 37:15I need to read ahead. You know, when, when I edit us,
- 37:22when I'm listening to us like, you know, once I get, you know,
- 37:26as I'm cutting things and you know, doing that, I listen to us
- 37:29at at that speed. And you should hear us because
- 37:33it's hilarious because we're talking really fast and we're
- 37:35talking really fast and it's hilarious.
- 37:37And then sometimes I have to rewind it back and slow it down
- 37:40because if we are just in our general talking, talking really
- 37:43fast, and then sometimes I'll be like, what did we just say?
- 37:46What are we talking about? And I have to rewind it back.
- 37:48But I wonder, I wonder what speed you listen to.
- 37:51If anything, it just kind of takes the pauses out of the the
- 37:56length of the the word. It's weird, but no, like I don't
- 38:00feel like it's remember like back in the day with the BHS,
- 38:03it's like you would Fast forward.
- 38:07Doesn't sound like that. No, it's just they're talking a
- 38:10little faster than this. I'm like, okay, we need to.
- 38:16I can see you doing that, though.
- 38:19I could see you definitely doing that.
- 38:21But now, now what? Now what we're going to get into
- 38:24today we're going to talk about one of our absolute favorite
- 38:29tropes. Well, at least for me.
- 38:31I'm assuming Heather, this is one of your favorite as well.
- 38:34This. Is my favorite tropes.
- 38:36This is enemies to lovers, you know, now, like some books are
- 38:41marketed as enemies to lovers and some, and I'm like, you
- 38:45know, there are two chapters into the book and they're
- 38:48enemies to lovers. And then I'm in, you know, and
- 38:50then they're together that that's not enemies to lovers.
- 38:54This is this is what we love. I mean, you know, there's books
- 38:58that I mean, I could honestly say just from the synopsis and
- 39:02everything I know, this is enemies to lovers.
- 39:05This is definitely. She talks about her enemies and
- 39:09the how it's even a forced proximity, they still stay
- 39:12enemies. OK, so that's what we're going
- 39:14to talk about. It's true enemies to lovers
- 39:17today because yes, I love my rivals to lovers.
- 39:21I like my, you know, enemies to lovers that are like soft, we'll
- 39:25call it soft enemies lovers, but true enemies to lovers.
- 39:29Like if you get someone that can write a true where they're
- 39:33cutting throat still like trying to off each other while they're
- 39:37in this forced proximity to be together and having to work
- 39:41together but not trust each other constantly.
- 39:44Like I have some recommendations today.
- 39:47Well, let me ask you this now, this one here because it even
- 39:50though it's it doesn't happen until book 2 in this series.
- 39:54Do you, do you think the plated prisoner, would you really
- 39:56consider that enemies to lovers? No, definitely not.
- 40:00I don't know, but she did. But she doesn't like him though.
- 40:03She for a long time then. But she doesn't do anything to
- 40:07her. Well I guess he doesn't do
- 40:09anything to maim her or anything like that.
- 40:12Not. Knows right away who she is and
- 40:15what he is like her. So this would be more, but now
- 40:19the other person that's in it, that would be just well, he
- 40:21would be a lover to an enemy. It would be the reverse, I guess
- 40:25you would say. I guess for this it not the.
- 40:28Main I do love lovers to enemies as well.
- 40:31I think that's really a cool twist when you do it right with
- 40:35a good betrayal, one where you're like, oh.
- 40:38So I guess we could consider this, that it would be the
- 40:41opposite this series because the one part of it because we don't
- 40:45want to give any of it away, but it would be a lover's to enemy.
- 40:49Yeah, for 100% on that. One that I would say, but if
- 40:53we're talking about the guy in book 2 who becomes lovers my
- 41:00husband it I don't believe that's a true enemies to lovers
- 41:06because. No, he said.
- 41:07He knows because he he's he. She was like a beacon to him.
- 41:12Yeah, so he knew. But she didn't know though.
- 41:15About like who they are together because it does he capture her
- 41:21of some sort? Does he take her prisoner?
- 41:24Remember she remember the the other bad people have her.
- 41:29Remember the ones that are out in the snow, the ships, they
- 41:33have her. And then he battles them.
- 41:36He rescues her because he's seen her.
- 41:38She was like a beacon of light, yes, but he knew.
- 41:43But she hated him because of who she was, you know, made to think
- 41:48of who he was because she knew who he was well, and she knew
- 41:52who he was. Right and.
- 41:54Well, yeah, and they always made out because of.
- 41:56Course, her person she knows him as like the the she knows him as
- 42:02right, like the scary yes eggs. That is a villain villain, so
- 42:07she immediately thinks you're a. Villain.
- 42:08Because that's always what she's been told, right?
- 42:11Yes, that's all she's been told by.
- 42:12That's right. That that that goofy person,
- 42:15that that who will remain nameless, you know?
- 42:18Yeah, because everyone, you need to, if you have not read the
- 42:21Plated Prisoner series, please. It's a completed six book
- 42:24series. And I saw that she has, she has
- 42:28her new book coming out. I already have it pre-ordered in
- 42:30September. It's a duology.
- 42:32It's the Pied Piper and I believe she has a second duology
- 42:35coming out and then she's going to have the book with the
- 42:38brother. Yes, that'd be cool.
- 42:40I cannot wait for that I I love how she writes too.
- 42:42So but again, it's a completed series.
- 42:44Go out and watch it. So, but so we're going to, I
- 42:46guess we should classify that as a lovers to enemies, the OK,
- 42:50reverse. I agree so.
- 42:51What? What book do you are you going
- 42:53to put as your true enemies? OK so I recently have read some
- 43:01really good ones that are indie authors actually that have come
- 43:06out with books this year. So one of them would be like
- 43:10Between Tides and Thunder by Lena Kazik, I think is how you
- 43:14say her name and she so there's Prince Zev and Princess Maya, I
- 43:22think is how you could say her name.
- 43:24And she Maya is actually there's two warring Kingdom.
- 43:27It's usually like warring kingdoms, right?
- 43:30And then you have like these two people from each Kingdom that
- 43:34butt heads because they're told these are bad people both ways.
- 43:39And so she, she's actually Zev comes to pick her up to bring
- 43:45her to his brother to be married to him, But then their carriage
- 43:50blows up along the way and they get stuck in the forest.
- 43:53So that's your force proximity. And they have the force
- 43:56proximity to to get to the castle to marry the brother.
- 44:01But then there's feelings involved, but not anything that
- 44:04they that, you know, like it's like forbidden feelings, right?
- 44:08Like attraction and they know it's an attraction, but they're
- 44:12they're like, no we. Can't happen.
- 44:14We can't do this because I'm betrothed to your brother.
- 44:17Yes. Yeah.
- 44:18OK. So that great like tension
- 44:20building, that yearning building, and then there's so
- 44:24many plot holes and so many twists and right when you think
- 44:29that they're kind of seeing even ground, someone does something
- 44:34where it like shifts the foundation and you're like, oh
- 44:37shit, OK, now we're back to being enemies again.
- 44:40So this one here is a true enemy celebrity.
- 44:43They do never truly trust each other until the Super very end.
- 44:48And even then Selena had me at like, Oh my gosh, this is not a
- 44:53happening ever after, is it? And I was like confused.
- 44:56I was like, what's going to happen?
- 44:58And it's a standalone. So that's what I was going to.
- 45:00I was like this. Ends like this right now Oh my
- 45:03gosh Oh my gosh like I'm going to lose it and so she does a
- 45:07great job up until the very end that.
- 45:11Sounds really good. I think I added that to my TBR
- 45:14because you have mentioned that book before.
- 45:16Yeah, I think, I mean. 300 and some books I have.
- 45:19I'm sure. Doesn't seem really good being.
- 45:21Hyped I think she is going trad with it.
- 45:25I think she just got top Top 40 bestseller on Amazon with this
- 45:30book. It's it's worth the hype.
- 45:32I would say this is very well hyped book like it is worth the
- 45:37read. That's between tides and
- 45:39Thunder. OK, Eileena all.
- 45:41Right, we'll have to. Maybe I'll put up the picture.
- 45:45As we go all of our tropes that like those kind of enemies
- 45:49lovers. We got you with that one.
- 45:52Now what do you think? What's What's another one?
- 45:55Now again, now, now you're talking more.
- 45:58The books that you're talking are more that you've read.
- 46:00Now these are ones that I have heard.
- 46:02I've heard they're on my physical TP or they're sitting
- 46:06here, but I haven't read them yet.
- 46:07But this is just based off of what I've seen.
- 46:10Now this one here is this is the feather.
- 46:13So vicious it's book one of the duology.
- 46:16Constantly talk about that and this thing keeps popping up on
- 46:20my audible and I'm this close to just like listening to it and
- 46:24seeing what it's about. It's supposed to be really good
- 46:28and it's also very spicy. Now, what's her?
- 46:34Liv Xander? She actually just had another
- 46:37duology come out and I can't remember what it's called, but
- 46:40it's all over Instagram and that and all over TikTok everything.
- 46:45And it's it's something with crowns and it's like the number
- 46:49one bestseller thing or whatever now.
- 46:51But she's very good at enemies to lovers for to from what I
- 46:55understand, there's the girl that's in the book and I don't
- 46:58know, she gets captured or there's something with it and
- 47:02there's two guys and they're Raven shifters.
- 47:05And there's a lot of like angst and a lot of not, you know, a
- 47:10lot of enemies to lovers kind of thing.
- 47:13But I believe she's with both of them.
- 47:15So white shoes. It might be a white shoes kind
- 47:19of thing, but that's from what I understand.
- 47:21But anybody who else has who has actually read this, you know,
- 47:24you can let us know in the comments, But it's supposed to
- 47:27be amazing. But I I know it's like super
- 47:30spicy. I would put this probably in my
- 47:324 pepper range because you know, I don't I don't think I've ever
- 47:37had anything. I guess five star or five chili
- 47:40pepper would be the kiss of the maskless.
- 47:42Even though I haven't read it just based on everybody's what I
- 47:45have seen that would probably be A5 mode.
- 47:47This is probably like this could be 4/4 and 1/2 pepper kind of
- 47:50thing. I believe so if you like the
- 47:52spiciness, but that I know this is enemies to lover, so let us
- 47:55know in the comments. So there's that one.
- 47:57So what one do you have that you have read?
- 48:02This one we have talked about before with Stephanie Storm is
- 48:05Poison Daughter by Sheila Masterson.
- 48:08That one's going viral right now.
- 48:09She just got a huge trad deal and she's like, I think she just
- 48:15announced like she has a book coming out in Netherland in
- 48:18Germany. I don't know some some like
- 48:20foreign deals too. So this one is so worth the
- 48:25hype. I, this was one where I kind of
- 48:30sat on it for a long time. It was actually part of my book
- 48:32club and I missed her. Like we have a book club where
- 48:36the author comes on and like chats with us and stuff.
- 48:39And I missed that one 'cause it's like, oh, I haven't read
- 48:41that. And this one also is a
- 48:42standalone. So I was thinking like, oh, you
- 48:46know, it's not a series, so I could just get into it when I
- 48:49get into it. And then I saw that it was
- 48:51getting more hype. So I'm like, what?
- 48:53I'm just going to read this really quick.
- 48:55And it is huge enemies to lovers like so, so good.
- 49:03And it so she has like this magic power.
- 49:08Like there there are a lot of there's some people with power,
- 49:11some people that aren't OK and then there's people that live in
- 49:15the and they all live inside like stone, like a wall, let's
- 49:20say like a big city inside a big wall, because on the outside are
- 49:24like vampires. We'll we'll call them, I forgot
- 49:26what they're actually called, but and they'll, you know,
- 49:30terrorize you and eat you and all that stuff.
- 49:32So, and I think if you get bit, you get turned.
- 49:35Maybe not, maybe I'm thinking too much into that.
- 49:39But there, there, there, there are like the bad monsters
- 49:43outside of the wall. So her family is this big, like
- 49:48most power. There's like powerful families
- 49:51that live within the society, you know, and hers kind of is
- 49:54like the, her dad's like the governor, let's say.
- 49:57And so each of her siblings, I think there's like 8 or 9 of
- 50:00them have like a special power that suits the the rule of how
- 50:07they rule things. And and so hers is a poison
- 50:10kiss. So she cannot kiss somebody or
- 50:15like transfer any kind of saliva, I think it is without
- 50:19like killing somebody. And she perfects this over time
- 50:22without telling her family. But her family's like corrupt
- 50:26and and like nasty. And so she already has this like
- 50:31standard of like not trust it in anybody.
- 50:34Like she can't trust her family. She can't even trust her
- 50:36brother, who she really loves that they're most close with.
- 50:40And so she's always like for herself.
- 50:42She is loyal to herself and herself only.
- 50:45She looks out for herself, does things that she wants to do, all
- 50:48that kind of stuff. So when they want to marry her
- 50:51off again because her last husband died unexpectedly and he
- 50:57was supposed to that was part of the the rain like her, her dad's
- 51:02like, you know, mapping. But then they want to marry her
- 51:06off again and she's like, fuck this shit, right?
- 51:11And she is, she's like the bad ass FMC that can fight and can
- 51:17be an assassin and she goes out and tries to like right the
- 51:22wrongs of the men in life that are like rapists and murderers
- 51:26and things like that. And so she has to like a part
- 51:29underlying like Throne of Glass, kind of like a sassany thing
- 51:33going on. But then she meets Henry, and
- 51:36Henry is like this from this colony they thought was lost
- 51:40back in the war like 10 years ago or something like that. 1020
- 51:44years maybe. And they're finally like making
- 51:47contact back with this other with like, what's her name?
- 51:52Harlow. I think her name is Harlow.
- 51:55And in in her society. So like he comes back and they
- 52:00know like there's something kind of going on with those people
- 52:04and they're sending her to like spy and like get get the goods
- 52:08right? Like learn all the stuff.
- 52:10But they have all these secrets and she has all her secrets and
- 52:13then she has her family secrets and then she has her society
- 52:15secrets. And then he's got more secrets
- 52:17and he is something that we don't know about and he has some
- 52:20kind of power that we don't know about.
- 52:22And so there's all these like things that they like constantly
- 52:26fight about and and can't ever find like that level ground and
- 52:30they're constantly like at each other's throats about stuff.
- 52:34So it is a true enemies to lovers.
- 52:37Like they're I can't say too much more about like how like he
- 52:40comes into play with it. It's really good.
- 52:43Like how they meet too. It's like.
- 52:45I'm excited. Oh shit, now is it?
- 52:47It's a. Shit moment when they meet it's
- 52:49really cool. Is it in August?
- 52:51I think maybe it comes out the traditional.
- 52:54Is being republished. For some reason I'm thinking
- 52:57it's August it comes out but I could be wrong.
- 52:59I know it's soon. It's the summer, I believe.
- 53:02Soon. And the cover on it's gorgeous.
- 53:04And sprayed edges and deluxe and everything like that.
- 53:07So that is. I'm going to get up for my
- 53:10shelf. I'm going to get it and put it
- 53:13on my shelf. I when will I read it?
- 53:15I don't know, but it's going to be on there.
- 53:17If you pre-order it, she has like a piece of art that comes
- 53:20with it. I think you have to tell her
- 53:23that you pre-ordered it though. Remember, if I I have
- 53:26pre-ordered a tremendous well, not I shouldn't say a tremendous
- 53:30number, but so I mean I might have to pre-order that one so I
- 53:33can have it's just it's beautiful.
- 53:35I think the cover is gorgeous. You know how we are with our
- 53:38covers, But but that is definitely that is 1.
- 53:41I do know, and it is, I didn't know what it was about, but I
- 53:45knew that everybody loved it and you said it was amazing.
- 53:48And Stephanie said like. Super dark, Rebecca and Spicy
- 53:52and you would love that, yeah. You know I.
- 53:53Love it. I mean, it's like orgy style,
- 53:56like spice marriage bedding is like in front of like a crowd of
- 54:02people that have to witness and they have to like do something
- 54:05to make it like mean something and like combine like.
- 54:09You know, they did that like, like years ago in England and
- 54:13stuff. Oh yeah.
- 54:14And they had to actually, a whole bunch of weirdos had to
- 54:16stand there. This was not.
- 54:17Weird though. Yeah, this wasn't like weird
- 54:19like that. Like in Daggermilf, which is
- 54:21another true enemy, celebrities, they that's a dystopian fantasy.
- 54:26And so the misogynistic men think that when people get
- 54:32married, they have the right to watch the communion of that.
- 54:36And yeah, so they have like, a gallery where you get watched
- 54:40and stuff. And so our FMC is not about
- 54:44that. And she's like, that's not going
- 54:45to happen to me. Fuck you.
- 54:47I just. I love duck your mouth, by the
- 54:49way, That's a number. That's a number or another
- 54:53recommendation from me for true enemies lovers.
- 54:55They like shoot at each other constantly and like get in
- 54:58fights and cut each other. I have that one on my list.
- 55:00I added that one because of you as well.
- 55:03That's the one you and I talked about because the cover you said
- 55:07if you wouldn't have known whatever you would have walked
- 55:09past it. Now the the cover since it went
- 55:11traditionally. It's a weird cover but you said
- 55:14it makes sense when you read it. But but the newer 1 looks bad
- 55:19matter in my opinion. Again, I I most of the time I
- 55:22always side with saying I feel the indie cover looks better in
- 55:26my opinion. But when I've seen the
- 55:28traditional cover or dagger mob, I do think it looks better than
- 55:33the indie cover in my opinion. But I'm I'm excited to to read
- 55:37that one as well. I do.
- 55:37But like I said, I have that on my my 300 and some book TBR.
- 55:43I know. No, now I have this one.
- 55:45Now this one's on my TBR list again I have not read it but I
- 55:49know it. What is it?
- 55:51But it is it is. From what I gather it's enemies
- 55:54and lovers but I think this just came they she re released them
- 55:58maybe because they went traditional or something.
- 56:00This is the City of Gods and Monsters by Kayla Edwards City.
- 56:04Yes, I think she has given a deal.
- 56:06Or. Something with it re released
- 56:08Yeah I. Think I have.
- 56:10Been audible. I need to read it.
- 56:11Because it's the House of Devil's novel, it's book 1, and
- 56:17she's a human struggling to survive in a city that caters to
- 56:20the needs of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other
- 56:23supernatural creatures. She always assumed her life
- 56:26would remain simple, predictable, and as safe as her
- 56:29world would allow until she barely escapes abductions by the
- 56:34hands of the Dark Slayers. What are those?
- 56:37I'm excited to find out what that is.
- 56:39Oh it says it's a supernatural bounty hunters that pose Oh no,
- 56:42that possess the site. It says a magical tracking
- 56:46ability that allows them to see a person's aura.
- 56:49So oh, I wonder if it's one of those people.
- 56:52Oh maybe that's who she's got an enemies to lovers with bounty
- 56:56hunter. Maybe I'm going to see what it
- 56:58says it says. Will says the abductors are
- 57:01demanding ransom, I guess for her life in exchange for her
- 57:05friend's safe return. This is Lauren Will do whatever
- 57:09it takes to get her friend back, even if it means accepting help.
- 57:13OK, This must be our enemy here from Darien Castle, the leader
- 57:18of the Seven Devils, the most feared draw.
- 57:22OK, Dark slaying circle in the city.
- 57:24So he is a bounty hunter. OK, so he's really grumpy.
- 57:27He sounds grumpy and I love grumpy enemies lovers.
- 57:31But he's oh, it sounds interesting.
- 57:33I've I know I've heard people talk about that name, his name
- 57:37Darien castles, and they say he's delightful.
- 57:40So, so enemies to lovers. And this is a thick bitch.
- 57:44Look at that one. And I think all of them are
- 57:48chunky bar likes like this. You know, I love a thick book,
- 57:52but that again, you haven't read it.
- 57:54If you've read it, let us know. I'm assuming it's a enemies
- 57:57delivers because from the sounds of it, but it does sound really
- 58:00good. All right, what do you got next,
- 58:02lady? Well, OK, so I said Daggermouth.
- 58:05That's dystopian fantasy Poison daughter between Tides and
- 58:10Thunder. OK, number one would probably be
- 58:14Spark of the Ever Flame by Penncull in her whole series.
- 58:18And the slow people talk about the slow burn in this series and
- 58:24is a very slow burn and it's because they're enemies, like
- 58:30true enemies and they're trying to get to the lovers part And
- 58:34that lovers part just like constantly gets interrupted and
- 58:39some other fatal thing happens. And I mean, we know that they
- 58:44love each other like in their own way.
- 58:47So I'm really interested to see what book 4 becomes of these
- 58:51love interest that we have because is it an attraction?
- 58:55Is it a deep love? Is it a convenience lovers or is
- 59:01it going to be happily ever after?
- 59:04I don't know she just teased something on IG today about
- 59:09Googling. Do you have to have a happily
- 59:11ever after in a romanticy? Can you kill off main
- 59:14characters? I was like OMG because the third
- 59:18book has a huge clueless hanger where DM?
- 59:22And you've been waiting How long now?
- 59:242 1/2 years. Well, like how you know specific
- 59:282 1/2 years that? I can remember and when and.
- 59:31When now has she announced the actual date of when?
- 59:34This September. September ain't too far.
- 59:37Then you'll have your answers. Yeah, I just know September, try
- 59:41not to get too excited before that because I should be getting
- 59:44the ARC for it because I signed up for ARC 2 1/2 years ago, so I
- 59:48should be getting the book hopefully sooner later.
- 59:51I don't know if she's sending out physical ones.
- 59:53I mean, I'd be happy just to read it on the Kindle, yeah.
- 59:57You need an answer. And I'll have time to read it on
- 59:59my Kindle, but I will probably have to ignore the children to.
- 1:00:03Do you know they do have a thing that you can put on your Kindle
- 1:00:07where it will read to you? So you don't have to have it's
- 1:00:11they have a thing that you can do and it'll read your ball.
- 1:00:13Like that? How did I not know about that?
- 1:00:16I have heard about people saying that if you have the Kindle app
- 1:00:20you can do. I think because it's for like if
- 1:00:24you're blind and you have a book.
- 1:00:25And it will read to. You and it'll read to you.
- 1:00:29I have looked for the settings for that and I can't find it, so
- 1:00:33I'll have to do some deep diving in that and see what that's.
- 1:00:37Because that might be a positive for you since you need to listen
- 1:00:40to them. Yeah, that would help.
- 1:00:41Right now my port arc list some authors aren't getting reviews
- 1:00:48on time. I'm sorry, I tried, it happens.
- 1:00:52You know. Yeah, This is why kids in their
- 1:00:54poop. Sorry.
- 1:00:58Little man, little man, someday will be.
- 1:01:00I don't know. I don't because my middle one
- 1:01:02did all this stuff and I'll tell him that I thought he would be
- 1:01:04horrified about it as he got older when I told him.
- 1:01:08No, he just. It's like, yeah, stop, Mom.
- 1:01:11It's because it's a boy. Maybe if he would have been a
- 1:01:13girl and I said it would be more like horrific.
- 1:01:15Kind of thing. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:01:18I was a little little girl that lived out.
- 1:01:20We had like a desert in our backyard and my brother was cool
- 1:01:24and he could pee on anthills. So what did I do?
- 1:01:26I tried to pull down my pants and pee on anthills and I got
- 1:01:29bit very badly by these ants because I had to get closer to
- 1:01:34the anthill to pee. Oh yeah, get to squats.
- 1:01:38So I mean, that could be embarrassing or, you know, I
- 1:01:41learned my lesson, so. You learned your lesson.
- 1:01:44I bet you didn't pee on anything after that like that.
- 1:01:46Didn't you? Nope, learned I can't pee on
- 1:01:48things outside behind a bunch. Unless it's behind a I remember
- 1:01:54this is when I was 6. My mom was somewhere, I don't
- 1:01:58know remember where she went, but my dad was supposed to be
- 1:02:00watching me. My dad was watching TV.
- 1:02:03Do you think in the 80s he was paying attention to what I was
- 1:02:05doing? Absolutely not.
- 1:02:07He was just an adult on premise. He was just on the premise.
- 1:02:10Now I had my friend that was my neighbor that lived through the
- 1:02:13woods for me. He was 6 and came by himself to
- 1:02:17our house. I couldn't imagine through the
- 1:02:18woods. In the day, man, back in the
- 1:02:20day, that's that's what we did. We just walked outside to our
- 1:02:23neighbor's house and played through the woods though.
- 1:02:26And that and but he came over and I still remember because
- 1:02:29this always sticks in my mind because I remember we were, I
- 1:02:32had a little swimming pool and we were playing and then I
- 1:02:35remember we went out in the garage because I don't remember
- 1:02:38if we were getting changed, like why would we get changed?
- 1:02:41But then again, we were 6. And I remember he told me to
- 1:02:43look under the car because he was on the other side of the
- 1:02:46car. And that's when he showed me
- 1:02:48his, his little tally whacker. And we were six.
- 1:02:52And I remember that. And I remember my mom found out.
- 1:02:54Yeah. Because she came home not long
- 1:02:56after because I was like, oh, do you show me?
- 1:02:57And I remember she told him and she made him go home.
- 1:03:00He wasn't allowed to come play anymore since he showed his
- 1:03:03tally whacker. Oh my God.
- 1:03:06But I remember that. But that was something.
- 1:03:08Yeah. Oh, no, this is, this is.
- 1:03:09Now, again, this is a book that I have not read.
- 1:03:14Now. I've not read this.
- 1:03:15This is the book of Azrael. Now this is.
- 1:03:18I'm told this is an enemies to lovers as well.
- 1:03:20Have you read this one yet? No, and I have the graphic
- 1:03:23audio. I try to just start that
- 1:03:24actually before this other one and it's intense.
- 1:03:29I could not quite get into it, so I might have to like.
- 1:03:33Dark is it? No, it just like starts off like
- 1:03:35really wild, like the first chapter starts off like super
- 1:03:40like in your face wild. So I was kind of taken aback for
- 1:03:46a minute there and I have not had a lot of time to concentrate
- 1:03:49on things like that like I would, I kind of needed like a
- 1:03:52book that started a little more gradual.
- 1:03:54So I'm like, I'll put that on the back burner for another
- 1:03:57couple days. This one went this went
- 1:03:59traditional because this is the indie right here, but I believe
- 1:04:02she went traditional. But it says here, it says for
- 1:04:051000 years after the Gods War, the ether world, Ether world,
- 1:04:10because you know how I pronounce things, has known peace, but
- 1:04:13soon that too will come or will change.
- 1:04:16An old enemy driven by revenge slowly builds an army behind the
- 1:04:22scenes. Temples are being ransacked in
- 1:04:24search of an item long lost and enemies the dawn of Oh and the
- 1:04:30enemies since the dawn of time must put aside their differences
- 1:04:35if they because remember I am older and I have to put pulled
- 1:04:38in socks I can't see they have a hope for survival.
- 1:04:41So I mean it's talking about enemies so people must have to
- 1:04:44get together. I don't know, it looks really
- 1:04:46good but I believe but like I think Chelsea was talking about
- 1:04:51this. Wasn't she like an ARC reader
- 1:04:54for it even though the books are already out?
- 1:04:55Because I guess because they were released?
- 1:04:57Well, I think she came out with the book.
- 1:04:59Three Maybe it was a brand new book.
- 1:05:02After all her publishing, it's kind of like LJ Andrews, like
- 1:05:06she's had stolen Crown like in her editing and ready to go.
- 1:05:13And then she got republished with the Eversee series.
- 1:05:16So then we had to wait for that to come out before she can
- 1:05:19publish the stolen crowns. So I think that's what's going
- 1:05:21on with Amber is like her same trad.
- 1:05:25She had to republish in the trad and then now she's come out with
- 1:05:30the another sequel to it. I think it's a sequel, not a
- 1:05:33prequel. We'd have to ask Chelsea because
- 1:05:36she is reading it and. I have not read the series yet,
- 1:05:39but, but from whatever all different people I've gathered,
- 1:05:43they said this is this is really a a good, really good.
- 1:05:46Yeah. So I.
- 1:05:47Want to read it so bad That's why I bought the graphic audio.
- 1:05:51I just need a minute to like sit down and like process it.
- 1:05:56One day now, now let's see Now we have now this one here.
- 1:06:00You didn't, you didn't read this one, or did you try to read this
- 1:06:04one? Or you read something different
- 1:06:05by her? Oh no I I read Till Death by
- 1:06:07Miranda and I did not enjoy the FMC in that one so I DNF D it
- 1:06:15now. This is This is the unmarked
- 1:06:17witch. This is book.
- 1:06:18One, I haven't read that series by her.
- 1:06:21Now from to again, like what I've I've been told that it is
- 1:06:26Oh, actually, I wrote myself notes and I didn't.
- 1:06:28I would have said I wrote it. This is rival covens and a witch
- 1:06:31hunter dynamic is in this one. So the romance is a literal
- 1:06:36betrayal of their people. That's good because that could
- 1:06:40have so many like Bass Story, you know, like, yeah, a lot of
- 1:06:46untruths to unravel. Since we were talking, since I
- 1:06:50noticed my notes with this, I'll tell you this is OK.
- 1:06:53This is the FMC who is literal, is a literal world ending
- 1:06:58monster, OK, versus the main male character who is a
- 1:07:03celestial God. So they are on opposite sides of
- 1:07:06the cosmic world. OK, So no, so no
- 1:07:11misunderstandings here. They're pure lethal friction
- 1:07:14between them. OK, so that's what that one is.
- 1:07:16And then this one here, go back to my notes.
- 1:07:19This one here. This is an urban fantasy that
- 1:07:22starts with the bounty hunter because like we read the bounty
- 1:07:24hunter literally paid to hunt down the human female main
- 1:07:27character. She is his mark and but he's
- 1:07:31maybe it's like AI can fix him kind of myth is dismantled.
- 1:07:34So there's that one. And then what did I say about
- 1:07:37this? Is the feather so vicious?
- 1:07:39This is a red flag anthem. Dark, visceral story of a
- 1:07:42Kingdom conquered. The female main character is a
- 1:07:45prize of the war. OK, so that's how the Raven guys
- 1:07:48get them. It's dark, it's heavy, it's
- 1:07:51exactly Pearl clutters. I wrote this like a couple weeks
- 1:07:55ago and I don't remember what I wrote.
- 1:07:57Isn't that terrible? And then of course, the Kingdom
- 1:08:00of Silent Sorrows, the one I'm reading currently, that is
- 1:08:02Witch's Forbidden Magic rival factions.
- 1:08:05It's Moody, high stakes fits, you know, with our coven vibes
- 1:08:09that we got going on here. But those are those are the ones
- 1:08:12I haven't read, but you have some listed here.
- 1:08:14But you and I both have read. Yeah.
- 1:08:16So what do you think about Melissa K Rourke and The Reign
- 1:08:21of Shadows and Ending? What do you think of that one?
- 1:08:24Did you say that's true or would you just say it's kind of more
- 1:08:27of an inconvenience? I think she really does not like
- 1:08:31him. She because she wanted to go
- 1:08:33about her own way and do her own thing.
- 1:08:37And but for him it was a convenience thing because he had
- 1:08:40to do what he was told. But I think he was just going to
- 1:08:43make her do whatever he wanted no matter what because he's he's
- 1:08:47about control. Very controlled, very OCD with
- 1:08:52his timeline of and how things are supposed to be done.
- 1:08:56Absolutely, because everybody's morally Gray in this book.
- 1:09:00Nobody is like the good guy. Everybody is, you know, I don't
- 1:09:05want to say awful, I don't want to say that.
- 1:09:07But they're all very dark. They're all in that category.
- 1:09:11Own agendas and secrets and wants and needs and things like
- 1:09:16that. So they do try to work together,
- 1:09:20right? And they try.
- 1:09:22I wouldn't say it's miscommunication, but they
- 1:09:24definitely have a hard time trusting.
- 1:09:27So they're not communicating everything upfront, which
- 1:09:32becomes, you know, a lot of turmoil and people kind of
- 1:09:36betraying or just like, not. She feels he.
- 1:09:39Lies like she feels he lies to her.
- 1:09:42But I mean, could you? Are you really saying that she's
- 1:09:45not truthfully either? So yes, it is very back and
- 1:09:50forth like that. However, I would not say that's
- 1:09:53true enemies to lovers. I would call that like rivals to
- 1:09:57lovers on my in my head because they're more rivals where she
- 1:10:02doesn't like what he stands for and what he is and what he does
- 1:10:05in society. And so she has a problem with
- 1:10:08that. But it's not like a you're my
- 1:10:11enemy and I'm going to kill you because you've taken everything
- 1:10:17from me and you must die to make my vengeance.
- 1:10:22But now I'm excited. But now, like as the books go
- 1:10:26on, you know, you have this one and then book 2.
- 1:10:30And because again, they're all, they're all not on the up and up
- 1:10:34with each other. They're not all wonderful
- 1:10:37people, right? I'd say even like book three.
- 1:10:41I mean, they're they're very much enemies.
- 1:10:43Because she does things that she's not supposed to do and
- 1:10:46goes to other sides and stuff because she has her own agenda
- 1:10:50and she's in, in a way, a lot. I get mad at her because she's
- 1:10:54very spoiled in a lot of ways. I'm not saying she was treated
- 1:10:57ready. She's she's not a Princess.
- 1:10:59I'm not saying that kind of vibe.
- 1:11:01She's just very out for her own agenda and she doesn't.
- 1:11:06She's inconsiderate in a lot of ways.
- 1:11:08And I'm not saying that Theon needs to have to be that because
- 1:11:12he's not that great either. Nope.
- 1:11:15But. She's like you said, Brady and
- 1:11:18and she's just, she does a a lot of things.
- 1:11:21If she wouldn't have done, they could have got to the point
- 1:11:24where they needed to be sooner. Yes, yeah.
- 1:11:26But but she put up roadblocks that she did not need to do.
- 1:11:31Yeah, and she was doing a lot of stuff behind their back that was
- 1:11:34causing more problems. Yes, and then young dad also was
- 1:11:41creating more problems and you know, I feel like was like the
- 1:11:45middle child and all. Of this it's very good worth.
- 1:11:50Between his dad and Tessa and like trying to play like the
- 1:11:55mediator. But it's very good if, if, if
- 1:11:59any of you, if you have not read the legacy series, it is one of
- 1:12:03my absolute top series of all time.
- 1:12:05I love. Luca And then like book 3 and 4
- 1:12:09you get a lot more Luca and his like banter is delicious and so
- 1:12:14fun. Theon has that like darker
- 1:12:16energy. I still feel like we did not
- 1:12:19ever really get to see his true powers like I feel like.
- 1:12:22Oh no. They were never truly described
- 1:12:25in like how much damage that guy could be especially.
- 1:12:29To what he becomes as you get to the end and we have not seen
- 1:12:34what that. Will.
- 1:12:36Power because because they do like at the end, they do their
- 1:12:39their thing there, but that's still within him.
- 1:12:42That's still him. So I think, I don't know.
- 1:12:44I think she could show even like she has lady of darkness and now
- 1:12:49she has tortured. Is it tortured souls?
- 1:12:51Is that that's the duology. They're all interconnected in
- 1:12:55the in the world, but I could see her.
- 1:12:59I don't know she'll ever revisit the same people from legacy.
- 1:13:02I would love it and see, you know, now years later kind of
- 1:13:06thing and see where it's at. But I I agree with you in that
- 1:13:09because it it is kind of an enemies to lovers, but yet it
- 1:13:12has that other because it it really changed.
- 1:13:14It's not over the whole entire series, it's but you can say
- 1:13:19that kind of in the beginning of the Reign of Shadows and
- 1:13:23endings. And even like the lovers part of
- 1:13:26it, I feel is more agenda than it is lovers at all.
- 1:13:32They have a lot of anything hate, like sex kind of stuff.
- 1:13:36Yeah, a lot of. It it's like a relationship of
- 1:13:40inconvenience for convenience back to inconvenience.
- 1:13:45There's a. Lot of like rivalry too of like
- 1:13:48I'm better than you and I'm going to outwit you and I so
- 1:13:51like you do get that like enemies feel with the banter and
- 1:13:54the the like back and forth between them like trying to
- 1:13:58outdo each other. So you do get that kind of like
- 1:14:02feel of enemies, but otherwise it's.
- 1:14:04They do have a lot of hate sex. Though true, like it's not
- 1:14:07really a true enemies to lovers. But don't you agree though?
- 1:14:12But listeners, let us know what you think.
- 1:14:15But you do have to agree, don't you, though, that they have a
- 1:14:18tremendous amount of hate sex when they do?
- 1:14:20They do. They do, but I don't remember a
- 1:14:23lot of scenes of it. I remember it towards the end.
- 1:14:26Oh, you get towards the. The further you get into the
- 1:14:30series, the more there is. There is some in this one
- 1:14:34because of the bond they have happening and it's like they
- 1:14:37it's like it's no, there's a lot on that one and there's.
- 1:14:41Some really good ones, not so much I feel like, not so much,
- 1:14:44no. And plus you gotta remember in
- 1:14:47the as the series goes on, there's a time period where
- 1:14:49they're not her and together aren't together because of
- 1:14:53things of her choices. So like, right, OK, let's say
- 1:14:56it's rivals to Haiti. Hating lovers.
- 1:14:59Like hate lovers, back to enemies, back to rivals, back to
- 1:15:06force proximity working together for a convenience trope.
- 1:15:11But now would you? I would classify the end though
- 1:15:13as as pure lovers though at that point.
- 1:15:16Then at the end after it's all said and done and some some
- 1:15:21added elements will put it. Because even with Luca I would
- 1:15:27say like well not even they are really enemies to lovers with
- 1:15:32Luca. Oh there's some enemy cuz don't
- 1:15:34you remember Cuz she cuz he does betrayal to him.
- 1:15:39Yeah, so. He is.
- 1:15:41He is pissed with her. That's.
- 1:15:42True. OK so I would say Enemies to
- 1:15:44Lovers book 4 with Luca. Oh, it's so good.
- 1:15:50Again, please, please go out. And again, it's one of my
- 1:15:54absolute top, top series. Now, this is another one that
- 1:15:58you and I have both read and we we have talked about this a
- 1:16:01million times. It's the serpent and the wings
- 1:16:04tonight. That's true.
- 1:16:05That's a true enemies lovers till the very end.
- 1:16:09Like even when they're like, I have feelings for you, I still
- 1:16:13don't know. Oh, the end of this particular
- 1:16:17book I did not see what happened.
- 1:16:22Rent free. Rent free right here.
- 1:16:24Right here at the end of this book, I did not see it coming.
- 1:16:28It's like one of those moments and you're like, it leaves you
- 1:16:31with your mouth open because you do not see that coming.
- 1:16:33What happens? And it is so good.
- 1:16:36And so then you you're LED into book 2, which is because this is
- 1:16:39a duet. It's still such an enemies to
- 1:16:44lovers through the through that. And it's it's so good.
- 1:16:47So if, if, if if you have not read anything by Chris Broadbent
- 1:16:52or read this series, go out and get it.
- 1:16:55It is absolutely amazing. She writes the enemies to lovers
- 1:17:01so well. She has a novella, 6 Scorch
- 1:17:05Roses. Yeah, that's also a good one.
- 1:17:07Because it's good and it's kind of like an enemies to love
- 1:17:10because you know, you have this, this woman and she goes because
- 1:17:14she's trying to find a cure. Because people are basically
- 1:17:17turning to dust. It's very and like grumpy
- 1:17:20Sunshine, like she she's fan of her character is really
- 1:17:24Sunshine. No, she's very academic.
- 1:17:28Yes, she's very serious and very academic like you have.
- 1:17:32You don't have fun joking times with her.
- 1:17:35She's right. She's like that.
- 1:17:38And and he's very, he's ancient and he's a vampire and she's
- 1:17:43trying to find this cure for her people because people are
- 1:17:48turning to dust. They're just disintegrating and
- 1:17:51and she's researching and stuff with him and she makes a deal
- 1:17:55with him and she's going to bring him 6 roses for every time
- 1:18:00she came to they do something. For him, yeah.
- 1:18:04She was taking his blood or whatever it is because she's
- 1:18:06trying, she's researching, remember she's academic and and
- 1:18:10that's what she told him she would give him.
- 1:18:12And it's it's very good because one of the scenes when she goes
- 1:18:15there and she goes to see him, I don't remember if it's the first
- 1:18:18time. Would you say that that's
- 1:18:20enemies though? I to me, that's just kind of
- 1:18:22grumpy sunshine like to love. It's not quite like you're a
- 1:18:27faux enemy. It's kind of more of like you're
- 1:18:30a vampire and I'm scared of you and my society tells me I should
- 1:18:33not trust you because you're a vampire and you're, you know,
- 1:18:37not welcome. So I mean, he's like she's, but
- 1:18:42she's very with him. I don't know.
- 1:18:44Well, she's very goody, 2 shoes kind of woman, you know,
- 1:18:47academic. She's never.
- 1:18:49Going against the grain. Yeah, just going to do what she
- 1:18:53does to get what she needs from him is something against the
- 1:18:58grain because I mean, if her people knew.
- 1:19:00This is 6. This is 6 Scorched roses.
- 1:19:03We're talking about the novella. This is the novella after.
- 1:19:06These two. Yeah, after you read this, you
- 1:19:10read the scar. The star cursed King was in it.
- 1:19:15No, it's the ashes and the star cursed.
- 1:19:16King Ashes, Yeah. When you read that, then you
- 1:19:19read 6 scorch roses. But please read 6 scorch roses
- 1:19:22before you read, before you read the ashes, because it goes in
- 1:19:28between. So read.
- 1:19:29This one I think I wouldn't do that.
- 1:19:31Well, you get their back story because you see them in Ashes
- 1:19:36because that's when they appear very briefly, but you understand
- 1:19:40who they are. You can be there.
- 1:19:43Yeah, no, my opinion though, in Ashes.
- 1:19:46No mention, but it explains why you, explains why they're there,
- 1:19:51who she is. Because otherwise you wouldn't
- 1:19:54have known she was who she was. Yeah, because I can't.
- 1:19:56Tell you I read it. I read it after the duology and.
- 1:20:02I was fine with the duology without reading the novella
- 1:20:05between. I liked it because they're not
- 1:20:07the big. Characters, yeah, I'm sure if
- 1:20:09you saw them in the duology you were like, Oh yeah, I know those
- 1:20:12people and what they're there for and stuff like that, whereas
- 1:20:15I was just. You saw it as like, you got to
- 1:20:17see, like you see, and then you got to see their story.
- 1:20:21It was neat because I read it. I knew their story.
- 1:20:24So then when they did show up in it, I already knew who they
- 1:20:28were. Yeah, You know, And it gave a
- 1:20:30little different context, I guess, for me.
- 1:20:32True, but I do again, I love her stuff.
- 1:20:37I I love Carissa Broadbent. I love how she writes.
- 1:20:40She's amazing. She's also the one that did
- 1:20:42daughter of no worlds. I believe.
- 1:20:44I don't know, I believe that could possibly be it enemy.
- 1:20:47Still, I have them sitting on my shelf.
- 1:20:48I have not read them yet, but they're that is supposed to be
- 1:20:52an amazing trilogy and that just went trad that just went trad
- 1:20:57and over a while ago last. Year.
- 1:21:00Yeah, because it two years, oh, last year, last year they came
- 1:21:03out because two of them came out and the the third book I think I
- 1:21:07just got in March, it came out. But yeah, that's what is.
- 1:21:12But it isn't completed. Trilogy if anyone wants to read
- 1:21:15that. Daughters of no world.
- 1:21:16This one I have not read yet. It is on my shelf.
- 1:21:19You have read it. You are a giant fan of this and
- 1:21:22you said this is definitely enemies to lovers.
- 1:21:25This is the Ever King by LJ Andrews.
- 1:21:29My files in my head here. OK, so he goes, he kidnaps her
- 1:21:34and their families are rivals from like a war back in the day
- 1:21:38between their people and they actually like, helped each
- 1:21:40other. But Eric's dad, Eric
- 1:21:42Bloodsinger, his dad's a total douchebag and like betrayed
- 1:21:47lives Kingdom and her people and her dad actually.
- 1:21:51And you can find all that in her Bridge King, Bridge of Kingdoms
- 1:21:59series. I can never say it right.
- 1:22:01It's Broken Kingdoms. Broken Kingdoms, yes.
- 1:22:04Bridge Kingdoms is a different series, yes.
- 1:22:07Yes. And so you get a lot of contacts
- 1:22:11with those, but you don't have to read those before ever king.
- 1:22:14But yeah, so he's like a ruthless, I call him a Fae
- 1:22:18pirate, Norse pirate, because they're all very like Norse
- 1:22:22background Viking kind of. And so he's a Viking Faye pirate
- 1:22:27to me. He's the one that does bones,
- 1:22:30doesn't he? Yes.
- 1:22:32So he yes. So he like someone talked wrong
- 1:22:36to live about something and he was like, that's disrespectful
- 1:22:39to me and my wife and especially my wife.
- 1:22:42So know what I think he he was like send them, send them to the
- 1:22:47dungeon. I can't remember if he does it
- 1:22:48like in front of everyone or if it's like later on he comes with
- 1:22:54a necklace that are the bones of this person that disrespected
- 1:22:58her. And so she wears the guy's
- 1:23:00bones, as in like fuck you, if you disrespect me, I will make
- 1:23:04you out of jewelry. There we go.
- 1:23:07But anyways, the ever king, yes, definitely he kidnaps her, the
- 1:23:11rival kingdoms, rival families, and she just thinks of him as
- 1:23:18this like really bad person. And it takes a while for them to
- 1:23:24like, you know, work together, trust each other, those kinds of
- 1:23:29things. Is there a lot of, like, back
- 1:23:32and forth trying to kill each other?
- 1:23:35I don't remember that. I don't remember them, like,
- 1:23:38trying to do that. But there is a lot of, like,
- 1:23:41defiance from Liv. And she's very like, you know,
- 1:23:46stop talking to me that way, and you're an asshole.
- 1:23:49And so the banter is definitely there.
- 1:23:52She's a very witty person and cunning in her own way.
- 1:23:57And I think she tries to escape a few times.
- 1:24:01OK, so that's fun. See, I'm excited to read that.
- 1:24:05I have, because that went traditional and all three came
- 1:24:09out. And The Stolen Crown comes out
- 1:24:10in October. Was October.
- 1:24:12Yeah. And so that's exciting.
- 1:24:16LJ also has broken souls and bones duology that's completed.
- 1:24:21And that's also a true, I would say a true enemies to lovers
- 1:24:27where they don't even know it. They just hate each other.
- 1:24:30And then they give, they get more reasons to hate each other.
- 1:24:35It's very cool. And she does a great job with
- 1:24:37true enemies to lovers because like when we had her on the
- 1:24:41podcast, she was like, I like an MMC who's a villain and will do
- 1:24:45the villainous things he talks about and says he will.
- 1:24:48So that would be like Eric Bloodsinger and what's his name,
- 1:24:52Rourke and broken souls and bones and that like she does
- 1:24:58such a great job with true enemies of lovers, but not like
- 1:25:02lengthening out like you have the yearning, you have the
- 1:25:05twists and the banter and all that stuff.
- 1:25:08But she's I wouldn't say she's quick to the lovers part, but
- 1:25:12she's good at getting them to the lovers prior to like the big
- 1:25:17like what like reveals at the end, like you get and you get
- 1:25:24lovers at least by like 60% into the book.
- 1:25:28Okay, so you're not like waiting till the very, very end or
- 1:25:31anything like that, like? She's a.
- 1:25:33Gradual story to the lovers. And then there's always like
- 1:25:35something that like kind of at the end and then like the last
- 1:25:39like 20% of her book is like full of actions as well with
- 1:25:44like. LJ said that when we were
- 1:25:46talking to her, you know, with her books, and that she said
- 1:25:50she's not going to do that. You don't get that.
- 1:25:54You know what I mean? Right.
- 1:25:55Yeah. She.
- 1:25:56So you are she. Likes to get them to lovers,
- 1:25:59yes? Yeah, I really like her.
- 1:26:01She was super fun when she was on the podcast.
- 1:26:03I know I enjoyed her. She's in Hawaii right now.
- 1:26:06So cool. She's so fun.
- 1:26:08She if I could, like, get to know her a little bit more and
- 1:26:11like, hang out on a ranch, I think we could be really good
- 1:26:15friends. Oh yeah.
- 1:26:17Well, she's like, I like her because she's very down to earth
- 1:26:20and she's very, she's just a very fun person.
- 1:26:23To talk to, like, yeah. Like, you know, when she came on
- 1:26:26the podcast, you know, and she just, she had fun with us and
- 1:26:30she, it didn't matter because again, we go off on tangents and
- 1:26:33we talked about all kinds of things because that's what makes
- 1:26:36U.S. special. But she went right along in the
- 1:26:40tangents with us and that's what that was what was fun.
- 1:26:44And she really, she was super fun.
- 1:26:46That's I really like her eye. Now the other couple, one that
- 1:26:48you know, we want to do as I mentioned, of course, is Blood
- 1:26:51and Steel by Helen Schrur. That definitely is a enemies to
- 1:26:55lovers kind of thing. But it's it isn't enemies to
- 1:26:58lovers, but there's a whole lot of switching back and forth
- 1:27:00between enemies. Lovers to enemies to lovers to
- 1:27:03enemies all. Through.
- 1:27:05And that's another one that. There's a lot of drama.
- 1:27:09There's, there's, there's a moment at the end of I can't
- 1:27:12remember, is that book 2 at the end of it?
- 1:27:13And it shocked me because I did not see that coming either.
- 1:27:18That one, I highly suggest it. I mean, I have not read the
- 1:27:22Ashes at Desmar yet. I don't know if we should
- 1:27:25consider that one an enemies to lovers.
- 1:27:29That's more. She liked him from the
- 1:27:30beginning. Yeah, like they just have like
- 1:27:33really good banter and it's where they're from different
- 1:27:38sides of things. So they feel like they they
- 1:27:40wouldn't go well together. So they don't.
- 1:27:43They like push each other away constantly, but it's like, you
- 1:27:45know, just get together, just just get together.
- 1:27:48Like everyone's like, finally. But I I highly recommend blood
- 1:27:53and steal that I read that series.
- 1:27:55Also if you when you do read that there is the novella
- 1:27:59Slaying the Vampire. No not not the empire slaying
- 1:28:02the shadow Prince. That's what it is.
- 1:28:04Shadow Prince. That's right, Shadow Prince.
- 1:28:07I recommend it after book 2 because then you understand who
- 1:28:13this person is, the shadow Prince.
- 1:28:15You don't find him until the end of book three technically.
- 1:28:19So don't you have to know who he is at all technically because he
- 1:28:25is introduced in book 4 like he's.
- 1:28:28You see more about who he is, yes?
- 1:28:30Three, you know who he is because he's talked about
- 1:28:32throughout the whole series. So when we're met with him at
- 1:28:36the end of book 3, going into four, you finally get his
- 1:28:41background. Like she doesn't leave you
- 1:28:42hanging. Like you don't have to read that
- 1:28:44book. But it is also a very great book
- 1:28:47and tells you a lot more about Telomere and his story and why
- 1:28:53he's missing this whole time. So yeah, pretty cool.
- 1:28:56Highly recommend. Absolutely.
- 1:28:57I hope maybe after the beginning of the year I'm going to reach
- 1:29:01out again because Helen is traveling a whole lot and she's
- 1:29:04doing her. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:29:06Because she has her new book that's coming out in September
- 1:29:11and I think I have it pre-ordered too.
- 1:29:13And it's supposed because again, I love her writing.
- 1:29:16I love the way she writes, so she's one of my instant by
- 1:29:20authors as well. But I'm hoping maybe we can have
- 1:29:24her come on the podcast. Yeah, maybe in the next the
- 1:29:27beginning of next year. But that is definitely now.
- 1:29:31You have a metal Slinger, you said by Rachel Snyder.
- 1:29:35Now I have not. Now.
- 1:29:36Book 2 comes out this month, correct?
- 1:29:38This month. Or it's either this month, or
- 1:29:41it's June. It's June.
- 1:29:44I don't know. Did it come out or did it get
- 1:29:47delayed? Maybe, I don't know.
- 1:29:49We'll have to look. What's it called?
- 1:29:50Light wielder. Light wielder?
- 1:29:53Because it's a duology, if I remember correctly.
- 1:29:57Date, Release date. OK, so it is June.
- 1:30:02OK, I knew it was soon, so you'll have your.
- 1:30:06Audio book, so it'll come here. You'll have your cliffhanger,
- 1:30:08you'll have your cliffhanger, and you'll know what's
- 1:30:11happening. That book starts because you got
- 1:30:14the 1st chapter at the end of book 1 because she went trad,
- 1:30:19and this book starts not from the end of that.
- 1:30:25Yeah, that's right. You said it it.
- 1:30:26Starts to know what happens after the cliffhanger and you
- 1:30:30start somewhere like 20 years later and they're in war or
- 1:30:35something like that. I don't.
- 1:30:37I just remember being like what the fuck?
- 1:30:40I so much to know. I see.
- 1:30:43I have, I have metal Slinger. It's sitting up on my shelf.
- 1:30:46So I'm, I'm waiting until because this is a duology.
- 1:30:49So I'm waiting when book 2 comes out and then I'll, I'll read
- 1:30:53them. I like when I can get all of
- 1:30:55them at one time because again, I don't always remember 100%,
- 1:31:01but I I want to read that one too.
- 1:31:02But you said that's a very good, a very good series.
- 1:31:06And then the other one that you have listed, you said Bridge
- 1:31:09Kingdom because there it is Bridge Kingdom by Danielle
- 1:31:12Jensen. Yes.
- 1:31:13Bridge that's like A7. Book series, right Well, yes,
- 1:31:16but it's kind of like one of those like LJ where it is
- 1:31:21interconnected. It's like the same world, but
- 1:31:22you have like one couple and then another couple for two
- 1:31:25books and another couple. And so I read the first two
- 1:31:29books, which is bridge Kingdom and like traitorous queen, I
- 1:31:33think is the other one and that is like she's an assassin there
- 1:31:38to like off him and he doesn't really trust her and also tries
- 1:31:43to like get her into some trouble to where it looks like
- 1:31:48he didn't kill her situations and stuff like that.
- 1:31:53So they're at each other's throats most of the time and
- 1:31:57even when they kind of get together, you're kind of like
- 1:31:59finally, but then there's a lot more that happens.
- 1:32:03I I think they go back to enemies.
- 1:32:06If I remember right. I read this one like couple
- 1:32:09years ago like started books a gram for me so but I do.
- 1:32:13Remember that on my TBR? Being from like a Guild of
- 1:32:17assassins and stuff. So I would say that's a good
- 1:32:20true enemies, lovers, completed duology for anyone that needs
- 1:32:24like that completion. Then you could continue and
- 1:32:29there's other duologies that are now completed with that series,
- 1:32:33but they're different groups of people.
- 1:32:36Different couples. Interesting.
- 1:32:37We have so many books. This seems to be though our main
- 1:32:42theme amongst the books that we have now.
- 1:32:45I know this is just a little bit of what we have, what we've
- 1:32:48listed. I'm sure some of these other
- 1:32:51ones that I have sitting waiting on me are Enemies to lovers.
- 1:32:57Which ones are true enemies to lovers?
- 1:33:00Rebecca? True enemies.
- 1:33:01True enemies. Out of all the books that we had
- 1:33:05today, I would say probably I don't.
- 1:33:09This is my thought in it. Which one do I think is the
- 1:33:12truest of true enemy? I'm going to have to go with the
- 1:33:16Serpent in the Wings of Night because I think out of all of
- 1:33:19them, I think that's 100% like out of ones that I have read
- 1:33:23now, like some of the ones you said there seem like it too, but
- 1:33:26I think. Yeah, like that one.
- 1:33:29Is that 100% I since we both have read that one, yes like
- 1:33:36100% agree. That is a true enemies lovers
- 1:33:39must read and then some of the other ones that I have read or
- 1:33:43Rebecca hasn't read yet. Yeah.
- 1:33:46Let us know what you guys think. True, we're talking in like true
- 1:33:50knives at throats wanting to kill each other, but finding
- 1:33:54some kind of middle ground to where they realize that they're
- 1:33:59more alike than they're different when they put it aside
- 1:34:03their differences. So I mean, this is this has been
- 1:34:06a good episode, I think. This I love troops talk.
- 1:34:09I think what? Well, we'll just ask everybody.
- 1:34:13What is another trope that you want us to talk about?
- 1:34:17Another one that I personally love is a Fated Mates.
- 1:34:22Of course proximity are. Those are some of my favorite
- 1:34:27but faded mates have an interesting twist to them.
- 1:34:31A lot of times they do and. Especially if it's enemies to
- 1:34:34lovers and they're supposed to hate each other, but then they
- 1:34:36have this bond that like connects them.
- 1:34:38And then they have to fight that bond to like truly see, is it
- 1:34:42the bond or is it my love for you?
- 1:34:44Like is there something there or.
- 1:34:47Yeah. And and then sometimes they
- 1:34:49break the bond, right? Sometimes the bonds don't even
- 1:34:52go together, like Lucy and. That's what I was just going to
- 1:34:55say. Is this going to come to play
- 1:34:57when Akatar 6 comes out? I don't know that it's
- 1:35:02interesting and and also you have to also put into play is
- 1:35:06truly is Reesan and Farah. Are they truly fated mates or is
- 1:35:11it that they were tricked into a blood oath?
- 1:35:14There's some theories out there. So get ready everyone.
- 1:35:17We will be coming back with some more ACOTAR miniseries and maybe
- 1:35:21that's a possibility on one of them.
- 1:35:24But but hey, everyone, go, you know, go follow us at YouTube,
- 1:35:30Spotify, Apple podcast, Audible. But again, we're on all the
