2:15
Speaker 3: welcome to the show, now, doctor Casey Sacks of Bridge Valley.
2:18
Speaker 3: How you doing, doctor Sacks?
2:19
Speaker 7: Good morning, Dave. I'm doing much better than you. At
2:22
Speaker 7: your forgotten note, I.
2:23
Speaker 3: Mean, guess what I found them. They're right here in
2:27
Speaker 3: front of all right, And so there goes the whole
2:31
Speaker 3: thing that I add lib everything right. You would think
2:33
Speaker 3: that if I add lib that I'd be better. I mean,
2:36
Speaker 3: I'm sorry, if I had scripted notes, I'd be much
2:38
Speaker 3: better than what I am.
2:39
Speaker 7: You know, but you said you forgot your prep. I
2:42
Speaker 7: just cracked up.
2:43
Speaker 3: Lasting it's all right here, it's all right here in
2:46
Speaker 3: front of me now, all right, So how are you,
2:48
Speaker 3: doctor Sachs.
2:50
Speaker 7: I'm doing great. How about you?
2:52
Speaker 3: I'm doing five. It's the little things that keep you
2:54
Speaker 3: keep you. And I'm glad I could start your day
2:56
Speaker 3: with a laugh.
2:56
Speaker 4: So there you go.
2:58
Speaker 7: See you made my day.
2:59
Speaker 3: Well, what I do is is, you know, you and
3:01
Speaker 3: I will talk that day before and I get some
3:03
Speaker 3: basic ideas of what it is you want to talk about.
3:05
Speaker 3: You know, Bridge Valley one of the fine sponsors of
3:06
Speaker 3: the show. And I get that, and I just jot
3:08
Speaker 3: out a little thing. It's not like I have like
3:09
Speaker 3: a you know, handwritten questions for everybody. I just write
3:12
Speaker 3: out some notes so I know basically what I'm talking about.
3:14
Speaker 3: I got to Sheriff Joe Crawford coming up in the
3:16
Speaker 3: second segment today, and also the mayor of Hurricane Scott
3:20
Speaker 3: Edwards is going to join us as well, So I
3:21
Speaker 3: got to have something. Well between four hours of radio,
3:25
Speaker 3: you know, one hour here and three in the afternoon,
3:27
Speaker 3: I got to have some sort of notes that, you know,
3:29
Speaker 3: you know, to know what I'm doing. Plus in there
3:31
Speaker 3: somewhere there's something about the stuff I do on the
3:33
Speaker 3: mountain and on a ninety six one KWS. But there's
3:36
Speaker 3: also probably a store list in there too. So it's
3:39
Speaker 3: it's all in the jumbled mind and the jumbled notebook
3:41
Speaker 3: of Dave Allen.
3:42
Speaker 7: How's that it seems reasonable?
3:44
Speaker 3: Nothing seems reasonable when you're talking about me. All right,
3:48
Speaker 3: I understand you guys are celebrating of a milestone with
3:52
Speaker 3: your nursing program. Talk about it.
3:54
Speaker 8: We are.
3:55
Speaker 7: So the Bridge Valley nursing program turns twenty this year,
3:58
Speaker 7: which is incredible to Bridge Valley's not that old. So really,
4:02
Speaker 7: it's quite a historic program. It was at West Virginia
4:05
Speaker 7: State University. Benett was at Canaw Valley Community and Technical College,
4:09
Speaker 7: and then Cannaw Valley and Bridgemont merged and we had
4:12
Speaker 7: Bridge Valley Community and Technical College. That happened eleven years ago,
4:16
Speaker 7: and so the nursing program is actually twenty years old,
4:20
Speaker 7: even though the college is only eleven.
4:23
Speaker 3: And you got anyway, how many, I mean, give me
4:26
Speaker 3: a ballpark figure. I mean, I know, it's very it's
4:29
Speaker 3: a complete ballpark figure. At about the number of nurses
4:33
Speaker 3: that you produce annually.
4:36
Speaker 7: We're just under four hundred yerolled right now, so about
4:39
Speaker 7: half graduate every year. It's a two year program.
4:42
Speaker 3: Awesome, that's awesome. It's again we're talking with not Casey
4:44
Speaker 3: Saxstonbridge Valley now. In order to celebrate this milestone in
4:48
Speaker 3: the nursing community, you've got an event coming up. Talk
4:50
Speaker 3: about that.
4:52
Speaker 7: We do so October tenth at six point thirty at
4:55
Speaker 7: the Russner. Our nursing faculty are doing a Murder Mystery
4:59
Speaker 7: evening and the community is invited. We're asking folks to
5:02
Speaker 7: go to our foundation and purchase tickets and it should
5:05
Speaker 7: be a really fun event.
5:06
Speaker 3: And the Roughner, And we've talked about different events. Doctor
5:09
Speaker 3: Sax's being held at the Roughner here in Charleston. It
5:11
Speaker 3: is a fantastic venue. I mean, if you've never been there,
5:14
Speaker 3: it is really really a cool venue. And this I got.
5:16
Speaker 3: I had some friends that participate in that, and maybe
5:19
Speaker 3: not the one you're doing, but in these murder mystery things,
5:21
Speaker 3: people really enjoy those.
5:23
Speaker 7: We really hope that they do. Our faculty have put
5:26
Speaker 7: together what looks like a very fun sort of nursing
5:29
Speaker 7: related scenario, and then you're right, the Restner is a
5:32
Speaker 7: very beautiful place.
5:34
Speaker 3: It is indeed. So I want to talk about a
5:37
Speaker 3: couple of other things that are going on at at
5:39
Speaker 3: Bridge Valley. You got your annual Pumpkin Drop that's coming up,
5:43
Speaker 3: and this is a big, big event. How do this
5:45
Speaker 3: whole thing? I know you weren't there when it started,
5:47
Speaker 3: but tell us how this whole thing came about it
5:49
Speaker 3: and exactly what goes on in the date is on
5:52
Speaker 3: October the sixteenth, I understand talk about them.
5:55
Speaker 7: It is so Pumpkin Drop is on the sixteenth, And
5:58
Speaker 7: what happens if you've never been a part of it,
6:00
Speaker 7: is that aap comes with those big bucket trucks and
6:04
Speaker 7: students from all over West Virginia are invited. Right now,
6:08
Speaker 7: we have twenty six schools registered, so teachers in the
6:11
Speaker 7: K twelve space bring teams of kids who have created
6:15
Speaker 7: something to protect a bus, to protect a pumpkin from
6:19
Speaker 7: being dropped from the bucket truck. So often students put
6:23
Speaker 7: it in a box or surrounded with pillows or styrophobe
6:26
Speaker 7: or whatever it is. But they've designed something that's supposed
6:31
Speaker 7: to protect their pumpkin. And then aep helps us pull
6:34
Speaker 7: those pumpkins up in the bucket truck and drop them
6:37
Speaker 7: down what amounts to about a two story drop, and
6:40
Speaker 7: often the pumpkins splat and sometimes they stay whole. And
6:44
Speaker 7: so then they get judged based on the design of
6:46
Speaker 7: how safe they kept their pumpkin, and we give out
6:49
Speaker 7: prizes every year.
6:51
Speaker 3: Give me an example of something that was one of
6:53
Speaker 3: the more unique things that you saw that the students
6:55
Speaker 3: designed from a particular school. I mean, you said that
6:58
Speaker 3: the whole idea is to keep the pumpkins from from
7:01
Speaker 3: breaking apart when they when they hit the ground or
7:02
Speaker 3: they hit the area. Give me something that was kind
7:04
Speaker 3: of unique that you saw over the years.
7:07
Speaker 7: Pool noodles was a pretty unique one. Say that's the
7:10
Speaker 7: pumpkin and pool swimming pool noodles.
7:12
Speaker 3: Swimming pool noodles, Okay, you know what those are? I
7:17
Speaker 3: do not. I've never heard the term. Okay, and again
7:20
Speaker 3: I'm not very worldly. What are swimming pool noodles?
7:23
Speaker 7: When you go to the swimming pool with little kids,
7:26
Speaker 7: you throw toys in at them. And one of the
7:29
Speaker 7: toys that is sort of popular is a long styris olm,
7:34
Speaker 7: I don't know, cylinder. It's called a pool noodle.
7:38
Speaker 3: Pool noodle. Ryan, were you familiar with pool noodles? Okay,
7:41
Speaker 3: of course, Ryan was?
7:42
Speaker 4: All right.
7:42
Speaker 3: Ryan's my go to anytime I want to feel dumb.
7:44
Speaker 3: I just talked to Ryan because he knows everything. Okay,
7:46
Speaker 3: pool noodles. Okay, all right.
7:48
Speaker 7: So well this year, something that we're doing this a
7:51
Speaker 7: little bit different is instead of a traditional trophy, there
7:54
Speaker 7: will be a belt so the students who win the
7:57
Speaker 7: grand prize it looks like a wrestling belt. And so
8:01
Speaker 7: our sponsors have stepped up. Toyota, TC Energy, US Methanol, ACNS, VMM,
8:08
Speaker 7: and Steven T. New Law have all signed up to
8:11
Speaker 7: help support and we give cash prizes to the kids
8:14
Speaker 7: who win. So it's really such a fun event.
8:16
Speaker 3: We're talking to doctor Casey Sachs of Bridge Valley and
8:19
Speaker 3: I will say that generally speaking, our man animal from
8:22
Speaker 3: our sister station ninety eight to seven the month and
8:24
Speaker 3: is usually out there as well. I think he dislikes
8:26
Speaker 3: He just likes the ability to break things and then
8:29
Speaker 3: to eat the leftover pumpkin. I'll be honest with you.
8:31
Speaker 7: See, he's the best. He actually sees the event every year.
8:35
Speaker 7: He's a lot of fun. The kids love him.
8:36
Speaker 3: Yeah, well he's because he's, you know, got the mind
8:38
Speaker 3: of an eight year old. That's why. All right, you
8:42
Speaker 3: got Family Fund. Speaking of kids, you got Family Fun
8:44
Speaker 3: Night coming up? Talk about that.
8:46
Speaker 7: We do. Family Fun Night is an annual event that
8:48
Speaker 7: we put on in October. It's for Halloween. Families come.
8:52
Speaker 7: It's designed for little kids to come and trigger treat
8:55
Speaker 7: in the safe space. We do it in partnership with
8:58
Speaker 7: WVU Medicine Thomas Hospital. So we all get together and
9:02
Speaker 7: have groups of folks who have cars and trucks with
9:04
Speaker 7: candy in the trunks, and little kids come in their
9:08
Speaker 7: costumes and we have music and face painting and that
9:11
Speaker 7: sort of activity. It's in the parking lot of Building
9:15
Speaker 7: two thousand up at Bridge Valley at the Tech Park,
9:17
Speaker 7: and we always have thousands of people show up. It's
9:20
Speaker 7: a lot of fun.
9:20
Speaker 3: I'm sure it is. And you're already thinking about the
9:23
Speaker 3: spring semester.
9:24
Speaker 7: There we are, can you believe it? And you know
9:28
Speaker 7: the fast has already been launched for next school you're already,
9:31
Speaker 7: So it's really thinking about the future. If people are
9:34
Speaker 7: thinking they want to come to school in the spring,
9:36
Speaker 7: our spring twenty twenty six. Applications are open now and
9:39
Speaker 7: we'd love to have you.
9:40
Speaker 3: All right before we let you go, I want to
9:42
Speaker 3: ask you about AI because doctor sachs AI is all
9:46
Speaker 3: the rage everywhere. It's being used in one form or
9:49
Speaker 3: another in just about every business, and I mean we
9:56
Speaker 3: use it to a certain extent here at the station.
9:58
Speaker 3: How is higher education developing or how is it going
10:02
Speaker 3: along with AI? Because there's good, just like with any innovation,
10:06
Speaker 3: Doctor Saxon, you know there's good and there's bad. How
10:08
Speaker 3: is how is how is higher education? And specifically Bridge Valley,
10:14
Speaker 3: how are you working with AI?
10:16
Speaker 7: So at Bridge Valley we're really workforce focused. I think
10:20
Speaker 7: you and I have talked about this many times. That
10:22
Speaker 7: we care very much what our local employers want, and
10:25
Speaker 7: then we try and reverse design our classes and programs
10:28
Speaker 7: so that we're meeting our employer needs. And so this
10:30
Speaker 7: has been a fun challenge because employers all over the
10:33
Speaker 7: valley are thinking about how to use AI and their businesses.
10:36
Speaker 7: I was just talking to a position who's using AI
10:39
Speaker 7: to help chart patient notes, and so the use cases
10:45
Speaker 7: are infinite, really, and so what our faculty are trying
10:50
Speaker 7: to do is pay attention to what's going on in
10:52
Speaker 7: the businesses and then reverse design that into how they're
10:55
Speaker 7: designing their classes, because we recognize that businesses are expecting
11:00
Speaker 7: students to graduate from school and understand how to use
11:03
Speaker 7: the technology. So it's been really quite fun to hear
11:07
Speaker 7: what all the different possible use cases are across the valley.
11:11
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, just like with any innovation, there's
11:15
Speaker 3: good and bad. As you said, there's and there's always apprehension.
11:18
Speaker 3: I don't know that bads are right word. Apprehension is
11:20
Speaker 3: because people, you know, we if it's any kind of change.
11:22
Speaker 3: But here's the thing, just like when computers become such
11:26
Speaker 3: a part of our such a big part of our life,
11:28
Speaker 3: going back, you know, forty you know, forty five in
11:30
Speaker 3: the business world fifty years ago. You can't fight technology,
11:35
Speaker 3: you know, and this but AI to me, and I'm
11:38
Speaker 3: not as well versed of it on it as some
11:41
Speaker 3: people are, but AI is is fundamentally changing everything. And
11:47
Speaker 3: as you said, Bridge Valley really prides themselves on being
11:49
Speaker 3: employer focused, and AI is going to be a part
11:53
Speaker 3: of every every job out there somehow is going to
11:57
Speaker 3: have AI in it.
11:58
Speaker 2: Now.
11:58
Speaker 3: They're not going to replace people, okay necessarily, but there
12:01
Speaker 3: will be some sort of AI in the coming years
12:03
Speaker 3: in every job field no matter what.
12:06
Speaker 7: That's treasure. Are you using it yet?
12:09
Speaker 3: I said? There are company is? How's that?
12:12
Speaker 5: Ye?
12:14
Speaker 3: Our company uses a lot. I am not because I
12:17
Speaker 3: you know, I'm not. Maybe I need to do AI
12:19
Speaker 3: to help me keep up with my notes for the show.
12:21
Speaker 3: How's that?
12:22
Speaker 7: It might be a real asset Dade?
12:25
Speaker 3: All right, Doctor Casey Sackson, Bridge Valley, It's always a
12:27
Speaker 3: pleasure to talk to you a couple of times. Well,
12:29
Speaker 3: tell us the website where people can learn more about
12:31
Speaker 3: what's going on.
12:33
Speaker 7: It's Bridge Valley dot edu.
12:34
Speaker 3: All right, looking forward to the pumpkin drop here in
12:37
Speaker 3: a couple we'll probably have you on before then to
12:39
Speaker 3: talk about that. Okay, great, thanks all right, Doctor Casey

13:18

13:21
Speaker 3: had just never heard them referred to as pool noodles.
13:24
Speaker 3: When let me just say this, and Ryan, if you
13:26
Speaker 3: need to cut me off here you can. When I
13:28
Speaker 3: heard the term pool noodle, the first thing I thought
13:30

Speaker 3: know what a pool noodle is, and it confidently states
16:37
Speaker 3: AI will be in every job. How serious can we
16:42
Speaker 3: take prediction from a guy who doesn't know what a
16:43
Speaker 3: pool noodle is? I did not. I'd never heard it
16:46
Speaker 3: called that. Okay, Doctor Sachs educated me on someday in
16:49
Speaker 3: which you referred to a pool noodle. I had no
16:51
Speaker 3: idea what it was. And then my listeners sent me
16:56
Speaker 3: various pictures of pool noodles. I'd never heard them called that.
17:00
Speaker 3: I don't know what I heard them called, but I
17:01
Speaker 3: didn't know they were called. But I've learned something today.
17:04
Speaker 3: I can learn just as easily as the listeners can.
17:09
Speaker 3: Sheriff Joe Crawford stops by the studio, Okay, help me
17:12
Speaker 3: out here. Am I the only person that didn't know
17:14
Speaker 3: what a pool noodle was? Nope, I'll agree with you
17:17
Speaker 3: on that one. So they got two of it.
17:22
Speaker 8: Well, she was.
17:23
Speaker 3: Talking about you. I don't know if you heard the interview,
17:25
Speaker 3: but I talked to doctor k Cy Saxonbridge Valley and
17:27
Speaker 3: the whole thing. They have their pumpkin drops it up, Sheriff,
17:29
Speaker 3: and that's when they drop the things, and the students
17:32
Speaker 3: are are tasked with designing things that will protect them
17:34
Speaker 3: from breaking. And I asked her what the most unique
17:37
Speaker 3: thing and she said that a student students a grade
17:40
Speaker 3: school did some sort of a thing that they made
17:43
Speaker 3: out of pool noodles. And I had to ask what
17:45
Speaker 3: a pool noodle was.
17:46
Speaker 4: It's styrofoam, so kind of and the only reason I
17:49
Speaker 4: know that my daughter's told me.
17:50
Speaker 3: So okay, Well that's the problem. I don't have kids,
17:54
Speaker 3: don't have I don't have kids to tell me these days.
17:56
Speaker 3: But Ryan showed me our producer and we got several
17:59
Speaker 3: text of pool noodles here. So are you sure of
18:02
Speaker 3: you doing all right?
18:02
Speaker 6: Yeah?
18:03
Speaker 4: Yeah, we've been good. It's been busy.
18:04
Speaker 3: It's been busy. And I got to start off the
18:06
Speaker 3: top was we have a story posted that on our
18:09
Speaker 3: on our websites that there was an incident involving a cruiser.
18:13
Speaker 3: Do you want to overnight? You want to explain what happened?
18:15
Speaker 4: Thanks? Thanks for asking. Last night we had one of
18:18
Speaker 4: our deputies working a crash on I seventy nine. And
18:22
Speaker 4: while he's working a crash, of course, it was heavy
18:24
Speaker 4: rain during the rain storm. Vehicle I guess lost control
18:29
Speaker 4: and uh slid into our cruiser, the deputies cruiser that
18:34
Speaker 4: was working the wreck. Thank god, there was no injuries.
18:37
Speaker 4: Everybody was fine, you know, some damage to some vehicles,
18:40
Speaker 4: but that can be repaired. So we're thankful that the
18:44
Speaker 4: deputy's okay, and the other people that slid into him
18:49
Speaker 4: as is okay as well.
18:50
Speaker 3: Everybody's well, and it's just one of those things that
18:52
Speaker 3: happens sometimes. I mentioned on the area yesterday about how
18:54
Speaker 3: there are far more accidents in rain than there are
18:56
Speaker 3: snow or ice or anything else because people people. My thought,
19:01
Speaker 3: sheriff has always been people see snow and they see
19:04
Speaker 3: ice and the okay, I gotta slow down, right, But
19:06
Speaker 3: they don't do that in rain.
19:07
Speaker 4: No, they just think it's invisible rain. It's not really there, right.
19:10
Speaker 3: And the speed limit, you know, is to is designed
19:15
Speaker 3: for perfect driving records. So if you're on the interstate
19:17
Speaker 3: and you see seventy, that's when it's sonny in eighty
19:21
Speaker 3: five degrees. Correct. Little common sense has got to come
19:23
Speaker 3: in here, and honestly, that's what happened in this case.
19:25
Speaker 3: I'm just saying that, you know, you got to you
19:27
Speaker 3: got to adjust accordingly, and when you got rain and
19:29
Speaker 3: you got the ponding of the of the liquids on
19:32
Speaker 3: the road. Not a good idea to do the speed limit.
19:33
Speaker 3: Maybe do a little bit to slow down. Yeah, yeah,
19:35
Speaker 3: But the deputy was okay and the other people were
19:37
Speaker 3: over and I let enough Davi.
19:38
Speaker 4: This is our second one. We had one about a
19:40
Speaker 4: month ago. Same It wasn't the same stretch of seventy nine,
19:43
Speaker 4: but it was on seventy nine we had one, and
19:46
Speaker 4: that cruiser was total so uh, but there was a
19:49
Speaker 4: little bit more involved in that one. There was an
19:51
Speaker 4: impair driver. So okay, that's the second one we've had,
19:53
Speaker 4: probably within the last month.
19:54
Speaker 3: Well, and I think it just goes to show you,
19:56
Speaker 3: especially when you're on a sheriff on those kind of roads.
19:59
Speaker 3: And you know, West Virginia's passed this move over law
20:02
Speaker 3: that that basically says that if you are driving, get
20:05
Speaker 3: in your mental car with me right now, listeners. If
20:07
Speaker 3: you're driving down let's see the interstate, and that there
20:10
Speaker 3: is a vehicle that's pulled over to the side, you
20:12
Speaker 3: know it's in distress or whatever. That by law now
20:15
Speaker 3: you have to move.
20:16
Speaker 4: Over, absolutely absolutely, And you know it's common sense if
20:20
Speaker 4: you think about it. It's common sense. I catch myself
20:22
Speaker 4: every time i'm you know, I'm looking up the road
20:24
Speaker 4: and if it's not even a cruiser, if it's a
20:26
Speaker 4: d u H State worker or just a private company
20:29
Speaker 4: contractor that's flagging, you know, just use some good adjudgment,
20:34
Speaker 4: common sense and you just need to move over and
20:36
Speaker 4: make sure because you never know what, uh, you know
20:39
Speaker 4: what what may arise. You may have some may come
20:41
Speaker 4: over in front of you, so you always got to
20:42
Speaker 4: drive on the defensive.
20:43
Speaker 3: We hear these stories all the time about people that
20:45
Speaker 3: are that you know, tragically were killed or seriously injured
20:48
Speaker 3: when when you know, they were tending to a vehicle
20:51
Speaker 3: on the side of the road and somebody just didn't
20:53
Speaker 3: seem what was the damage to the cruiser?
20:55
Speaker 4: Uh, it was there was some damage, minimal moderate damage.
20:59
Speaker 4: So we had to have it toad. So we'll look
21:01
Speaker 4: at it and see, uh it should be able to
21:03
Speaker 4: be repaired, I think.
21:04
Speaker 3: So now we're talking to Sheriff Joe Crawford. The Dave
21:07

21:14
Speaker 3: them on Facebook. Have Commission President of Ben Slango, Sheriff
21:17
Speaker 3: on the show yesterday and we talked at a length
21:18
Speaker 3: about this law enforcement training center. We have a story
21:21
Speaker 3: posted about it this morning at wv Metronews dot com,
21:24
Speaker 3: at WCHS network dot com. It's going to be voted
21:26
Speaker 3: on tonight at the County Commission Media.
21:29
Speaker 4: Your thoughts on this facility, well, first, first and foremost, Yeah, absolutely,
21:34
Speaker 4: I want to thank the Commission. You know, they've been
21:37
Speaker 4: so supportive of really the Sheriff's department and obviously that
21:42
Speaker 4: we couldn't do no this without the support and the
21:44
Speaker 4: financial backing of the County Commission. So we thank each
21:47
Speaker 4: one of those. We've had conversations with each one of
21:51
Speaker 4: them leading up to this, and we'll make a presentation tonight.
21:54
Speaker 4: So our facility out at campvergilitate. A lot of people
21:59
Speaker 4: don't know this, but we have over forty law enforcement
22:03
Speaker 4: agencies that use that facility. It's to a point where
22:07
Speaker 4: we have to have somebody control the scheduling, make sure
22:10
Speaker 4: we have people available people there. We're also starting to
22:14
Speaker 4: teach more classes with our in house instructors by offers
22:17
Speaker 4: and training to other agencies as well as ours. We've
22:23
Speaker 4: got some great people in our staff that's that's certified
22:26
Speaker 4: to teach, and so we're starting off some of those classes.
22:29
Speaker 4: So it's it's a hidden gym so to speak. Where
22:33
Speaker 4: it's at. It's just in need of some repair. And
22:39
Speaker 4: you know, with the vision that we had to to
22:41
Speaker 4: move this project forward, we started looking and trying to
22:43
Speaker 4: think of creative ways that we could make this come
22:46
Speaker 4: to fruition and sit down with the Commission, and the
22:48
Speaker 4: Commission was so receptive of it. So you know they've
22:53
Speaker 4: they're all on board that we know of, and but
22:56
Speaker 4: it's it's going to be stay of the art. You know,
22:58
Speaker 4: when you got state agencies, federal agencies using our facility,
23:02
Speaker 4: that says a lot about kind of trying to model
23:05
Speaker 4: it after what they're doing in Pittsburgh. Right outside of Pittsburgh.
23:08
Speaker 4: It's like a regional training facility. So we have military
23:11
Speaker 4: assets that that use that range. All the federal agencies
23:15
Speaker 4: use it for their qualifications in training, FBI, uh de
23:19
Speaker 4: AH atf all the federal law enforcement agencies, state government,
23:25
Speaker 4: and then we have, like I said, the military assets
23:27
Speaker 4: that also use that So that range, UH if you
23:29
Speaker 4: look at my phone. I get all those put on
23:33
Speaker 4: my phone on my calendar, so it looks like a
23:36
Speaker 4: kid with a calling book. But uh, we use that range.
23:40
Speaker 4: Uh I want to say every week, but I guarantee
23:42
Speaker 4: you three probably two to at least two to three
23:44
Speaker 4: weeks out of the year we're using that facility.
23:46
Speaker 3: And you talk about again, all of those other law
23:49
Speaker 3: enforcement agencies you mentioned, FBI uses it, uh you know, UH,
23:53
Speaker 3: the DEA, all these all these people come in and
23:55
Speaker 3: use it. I mean, it's a it's a big thing
23:56
Speaker 3: for for this area. But as far as you as
23:59
Speaker 3: a law enforcement officer goes, And this is something I
24:01
Speaker 3: really hadn't thought about when I was talking to Commissioner
24:02
Speaker 3: Selango yesterday. It's going the more space you have, and
24:06
Speaker 3: it's going to allow for enhanced training for everyday law
24:10
Speaker 3: enforcement offers like like your Sheriff's department.
24:12
Speaker 4: Absolutely new techniques, you know, the military uh uses, we've
24:18
Speaker 4: had aviation assets that that that deploy uh out there
24:23
Speaker 4: in their training scenarios. And another thing, our bomb squad
24:27
Speaker 4: you know, State of West Virginia. We're really fortunate and
24:29
Speaker 4: we're blessed here in Kanak County. We're one of two
24:32
Speaker 4: bomb squads in the whole state. State Police has one
24:35
Speaker 4: and then we have one. So we work joint jointly
24:38
Speaker 4: together a lot. But that's the only two E O
24:41
Speaker 4: D components in the state of West Virginia. So, uh,
24:45
Speaker 4: the bomb squad uses that, our squad team uses that. Uh.
24:49
Speaker 4: Then we do our departmental qualifications and departmental trainings. So
24:54
Speaker 4: you can see the need and the necessity because at
24:57
Speaker 4: the end of the day, it's an ever changing world.
24:58
Speaker 4: We want to stay up to date the modern technology
25:01
Speaker 4: and the best training that we can provide our people.
25:05
Speaker 4: You know, I think Commissioner Schlango spoke about yesterday. We
25:08
Speaker 4: have a place up there and we're incorporating in nowadays.
25:12
Speaker 4: Who had ever thought that you would be discharging a
25:14
Speaker 4: weapon from inside your vehicle when you're ambushed. So there's thinnings,
25:20
Speaker 4: updated training like that that we've incorporated we're doing. Uh.
25:24
Speaker 4: So we're always looking to do that, but this facility
25:26
Speaker 4: will take it to the next level. It'll be one
25:30
Speaker 4: hundred by two hundred. The new range will be like
25:34
Speaker 4: one hundred by two hundreds what we're looking at. We're
25:37
Speaker 4: still in the early stages, but then there'll be a
25:39
Speaker 4: long gun range where we can incorporate our patrol rifles
25:42
Speaker 4: in with that train as well. So we're very excited
25:48
Speaker 4: to see where this is going and how it plays out,
25:51
Speaker 4: because I think it's gonna be a tremendous asset not
25:53
Speaker 4: only for the Sheriff's Department, but the other agencies that
25:56
Speaker 4: use their facility well.
25:57
Speaker 3: And you know, we're blessed, I think in West Virginia
26:00
Speaker 3: because overall, and uh, Sheriff, you've been doing this for
26:03
Speaker 3: a long time, you know. Over overall we have our
26:05
Speaker 3: issues with crime in West Virginia like everywhere else does,
26:07
Speaker 3: and we have them in Canowc County as well, But overall,
26:09
Speaker 3: West Virginia's crime rate is low compared to the rest
26:12
Speaker 3: of the rest of the nation. And we have not
26:14
Speaker 3: seen the type of horrors that we see on television
26:17
Speaker 3: playing out in some larger cities sometimes in some smaller areas.
26:21
Speaker 3: We haven't seen those here. And you know, only I
26:23
Speaker 3: don't want to be pessimistic, but you've got to be
26:26
Speaker 3: vigilant about these things, and you got to you got
26:27
Speaker 3: to train your your folks because you never know when
26:30
Speaker 3: a situation that we've seen in some larger city or
26:34
Speaker 3: as I said, in some rural areas could happen here
26:37
Speaker 3: in West Virginia, I just cane On County, But in
26:39
Speaker 3: other places absolutely.
26:40
Speaker 4: I think you know the bar set. Uh. We have
26:43
Speaker 4: to prepare ourselves to our people, because if not, we're failing.
26:46
Speaker 4: If we're not training our employees and our deputies and
26:48
Speaker 4: our law enforcement officers across the state and county, Uh,
26:52
Speaker 4: with these types of events that are taking place, Uh,
26:56
Speaker 4: then we're failing. We're not immune from that. Uh. We
27:00
Speaker 4: hope and pray that it never happens, but I think
27:02
Speaker 4: at the end of the day, you know, we just
27:03
Speaker 4: this past summer. We do an active shooter training at
27:06
Speaker 4: one of the high schools every year and we invite
27:09
Speaker 4: local responders, police, fire, and the MS all come together
27:12
Speaker 4: and we do that every year.
27:14
Speaker 7: Uh.
27:14
Speaker 4: That's just one event. But what we're seeing now in
27:18
Speaker 4: today society is raising the bar for us, and shame
27:23
Speaker 4: on us if we're not keeping up and raising our
27:26
Speaker 4: our level of training uh to that level.
27:30
Speaker 3: Talk can you share, Jill Crawford, I had a text
27:32
Speaker 3: here for you. It says, for the sheriff, we usually
27:34
Speaker 3: ask the shelter about abused animals. That's a secondent I
27:37
Speaker 3: do every Friday shot, but never any info on abusers.
27:39
Speaker 3: Do you know if there's any information on who the
27:42
Speaker 3: evil person was that through innocent kittens off the Patrick
27:45
Speaker 3: Street bridge several weeks ago. We need to be voices
27:47
Speaker 3: for justice for innocent animals. If it happened here, that
27:49
Speaker 3: may have been more of a City of Charles truston
27:52
Speaker 3: police department as well. But but we do have an issue,
27:56
Speaker 3: and I'm an animal lover. I'm sure you are too.
27:58
Speaker 3: We have we have an issue with people abusing animals,
28:02
Speaker 3: but that's not I mean, the law enforcement can only
28:04
Speaker 3: do so much. You got to you need to go
28:06
Speaker 3: down the street to the capitol, I mean and talk
28:08
Speaker 3: to and talk to these folks to make it make
28:10
Speaker 3: it a serious, serious crime.
28:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think you know that that's a good point, Dave.
28:15
Speaker 4: But I think at the end of the day, we
28:17
Speaker 4: get there, we can put the case together. But there's
28:20
Speaker 4: a lot of moving components with that. You know, you've
28:22
Speaker 4: got law enforcement, there's one piece, but you have the
28:24
Speaker 4: animal control piece, the shelter, and like you said, the
28:27
Speaker 4: other most key component is we can only force what
28:31
Speaker 4: laws are on the books to reach out to your
28:33
Speaker 4: legislators to have them look at the codes that that
28:36
Speaker 4: are currently existing and checking see if there's things that
28:40
Speaker 4: need to be changed. Enhance penalties. I mean, that's something
28:44
Speaker 4: that there. Again, it's always an ever changing yeah event.
28:49
Speaker 4: So we encourage people to reach out to the legislators
28:53
Speaker 4: and also see if we can tackle it from not
28:57
Speaker 4: just an enforcement perspective, but from a legislative expect uh
29:01
Speaker 4: expectation as well.
29:03
Speaker 3: Before we let you go, I want to talk about
29:05
Speaker 3: recruitment of law enforcement officers. We all across the nation
29:10
Speaker 3: have seen the need for more and more people to
29:14
Speaker 3: get involved in law enforcement. There's just not as many
29:16
Speaker 3: people going into it anymore for one reason or another.
29:18
Speaker 3: It's not a West Virginia issue. It's a it happens
29:21
Speaker 3: across the country. I have frequently said, Joe that there's
29:26
Speaker 3: you know, there's a lot of everybody thinks that their
29:28
Speaker 3: profession is undervalued. But there's two professions I think that
29:30
Speaker 3: really are and it as me as an individual, I'd
29:33
Speaker 3: have to say, why do I want to do that?
29:35
Speaker 3: And one of them is law enforcement and the other
29:37
Speaker 3: is being a teacher, you know, who would at least respected,
29:40
Speaker 3: you know, for one reason or another. But how are
29:43
Speaker 3: the numbers looking at Kanawha County and what can we
29:44
Speaker 3: do to try to get more people to go into
29:46
Speaker 3: law enforcement because I know you guys, you guys need
29:48
Speaker 3: to hire, as does every department.
29:50
Speaker 4: Absolutely and you know you bringing us on the show
29:53
Speaker 4: and talking about you know, I can't say enough about
29:56
Speaker 4: what you all do to help us. But you know,
29:58
Speaker 4: recruiting attention is probably the top priority of every law
30:01
Speaker 4: enforcement agency, not not just in West Virginia kanaw Counties,
30:05
Speaker 4: it's nationwide. Everybody's dealing with the saint that that same issue.
30:09
Speaker 10: UH.
30:09
Speaker 4: And there again, I want to take my hat off
30:12
Speaker 4: to the County Commission. You know, last month we just
30:15
Speaker 4: received our deputies foreign members received an eight percent pay increase,
30:20
Speaker 4: which you know, we've always been kind of towards the top, uh,
30:23
Speaker 4: and we've prided ourselves on that competitive salary and benefits
30:27
Speaker 4: and training and equipment. UH, and that's continuing. So that
30:32
Speaker 4: that eight percent increase took us back to where we
30:35
Speaker 4: needed to be and couldn't have done without the Commission
30:38
Speaker 4: realizing that and knowing that how important that was for
30:41
Speaker 4: us to recruit and retain. So we're right there. There
30:46
Speaker 4: are some other incentives. You know, our benefit packages is
30:51
Speaker 4: really really good with hospitalization, retirement and so forth. But
30:56
Speaker 4: we're giving another test. This is the third test that
30:59
Speaker 4: we've given this year. Back in the day, and I
31:02
Speaker 4: won't go back too for but back in the day,
31:04
Speaker 4: when I started back in the eighties, we'd give one
31:08
Speaker 4: test that was nineteen eight, okay, sure clarify that nineteen eights.
31:12
Speaker 4: We'd give one test and that test would last for
31:14
Speaker 4: two years, and you'd have three hundred people, all right,
31:16
Speaker 4: so you understand the magnitude of what we're seeing. Now
31:19
Speaker 4: this last test we just give. We had one hundred applications,
31:23
Speaker 4: one hundred applicants filed applications. Thirty showed up for the
31:28
Speaker 4: test date. Out of that thirty Levin felled the physical
31:33
Speaker 4: agility test, So that took us to nineteen. And then
31:36
Speaker 4: we give the written tests the same day. We do
31:38
Speaker 4: that testing all on the same day so we can
31:41
Speaker 4: not have to bring them back. So that three didn't
31:45
Speaker 4: pass that, so that took us to sixteen. Then you
31:46
Speaker 4: started into the background phase and the polygraph, so you know,
31:51
Speaker 4: we may get five or six people out of this test,
31:54
Speaker 4: and our numbers down we're down right now about thirteen,
31:57
Speaker 4: which is almost a full shift for the Sheriff's office.
32:00
Speaker 4: So we're just looking.
32:01
Speaker 11: Uh.
32:02
Speaker 4: We want to recruit the best, the brightest, and uh,
32:04
Speaker 4: you know, if you want a good career, there's a
32:06
Speaker 4: lot of opportunities with special uh specialty teams out there.
32:11
Speaker 4: You know, I'd go down the list swat team, bomb squad. Uh,
32:14
Speaker 4: we work UH drug task forces, UH, drones, canines.
32:19
Speaker 6: UH.
32:19
Speaker 4: So we we provide all of those services to all
32:23
Speaker 4: of our citizens. And you know, it's a collaborative effort.
32:26
Speaker 4: We work not only just with us, but the state
32:28
Speaker 4: police and other municipal agencies uh as well. So we're
32:33
Speaker 4: all fighting the same battle. And probably you know I've
32:36
Speaker 4: said this time and time again day that we uh,
32:39
Speaker 4: we're all trying to compete and recruit the same people.
32:42
Speaker 3: Right yeah, And and I mean again these when I
32:44
Speaker 3: talk about the need for officers, it's not just Kenaw County.
32:47
Speaker 3: It's it's it's across the board. It's the city municipalities.
32:50
Speaker 3: I mean, if anything, the city is really really need
32:52
Speaker 3: the smaller communities. I mean as well, So where can
32:54
Speaker 3: people learn more? Do you have it?

36:39
Speaker 3: want to spoil it a little bit, but coming up
36:41
Speaker 3: tomorrow morning on the show, they have gifted me with
36:44
Speaker 3: something to give away on the air tomorrow morning. And
36:48
Speaker 3: let me just say, if you're a WVU football fan,
36:50
Speaker 3: you're gonna want to know about this and be listening
36:53
Speaker 3: at some point between nine to ten tomorrow morning, because
36:55
Speaker 3: those folks really came through that contact me yesterday and
36:57
Speaker 3: so we'd like to give something away to your listeners.
37:00
Speaker 3: So tomorrow morning, if you're a Mountaineer fan, you want
37:02
Speaker 3: to be listening sometime between nine and ten because I
37:04
Speaker 3: got a great giveaway coming up courtesy of the folks
37:07
Speaker 3: at Pinnacle. We had a quick text and I'm going
37:09
Speaker 3: to get to the mayor. Somebody was asking about the
37:12
Speaker 3: pay raise for county employees in Kanawa County and the
37:15
Speaker 3: sheriff Crawford had mentioned that there was a raise for
37:19
Speaker 3: deputies and they wanted to know what that percentage was
37:23
Speaker 3: for all employees or just deputies, and so basically what
37:27
Speaker 3: it is, and sorry I didn't the sheriff had already
37:30
Speaker 3: left before I got to read the text. It's a
37:31
Speaker 3: six percent raise for employees, eight percent to deputies. So yeah,
37:35
Speaker 3: everybody is from what I understand there and talking to
37:38
Speaker 3: him off the air and doing a little research, everybody
37:40
Speaker 3: got that race. Welcome into the show now, Hurricane Mayor
37:43
Speaker 3: Scott Edwards? How you doing, my friend, Mayor Edwards? Where
37:51
Speaker 3: are you sir?
37:54
Speaker 11: What do you mean? Where say?
37:56
Speaker 3: I could barely hear you?
37:59
Speaker 11: How about now?
38:00
Speaker 3: It sounds like you're in a honkey talk. You got
38:02
Speaker 3: music on the background. What are you doing?
38:05
Speaker 11: Well, that's leading into our conversation.
38:07
Speaker 3: I got a little background, a little background on a
38:10
Speaker 3: good job. They're well played, sheriff. All right, So the
38:12
Speaker 3: announcement has been made. We've got a big entertainment venue
38:16
Speaker 3: that is coming to the city of Hurrican. Talk about it.
38:19
Speaker 11: Yes, we have an entertainment venue downtown Hurricane, the old
38:22
Speaker 11: fire Department. We're converting part of that into an outdoor
38:26
Speaker 11: indoor entertainment venue where folks can come to downtown Hurricane
38:32
Speaker 11: can listen to maybe a country band, maybe a bluegrass,
38:37
Speaker 11: maybe a gospel you know, a gospel group comes and
38:41
Speaker 11: people can hang out underneath to avoid any weather or sun,
38:45
Speaker 11: or hang out outside in the parking lot. Maybe there'll
38:47
Speaker 11: be a food truck. Maybe they go across the street
38:50
Speaker 11: grab a pizza from balnapp or walk down a block
38:53
Speaker 11: and grab some food from Sergio's, or shop a little
38:56
Speaker 11: on main Street. But it's going to be awesome. But
38:58
Speaker 11: we're really looking for for somebody to participate in our
39:02
Speaker 11: first karaoke event, and that's that's why we were playing
39:04
Speaker 11: that music, which you you've already volunteered via Texas Morning.
39:09
Speaker 11: You are going to be our first person to karaoke
39:11
Speaker 11: in downtown Hurricane and it's a I know you love Skinnered,
39:15
Speaker 11: Is that correct?
39:16
Speaker 3: It's the greatest band ever.
39:18
Speaker 11: Right right, So you're going you are going to to karaoke?
39:22
Speaker 11: Uh uh and we can't wait. You already get me
39:24
Speaker 11: your word.
39:25
Speaker 3: Well, let me tell you what my dad used to
39:27
Speaker 3: say about my singing. And I'm the only one in
39:29
Speaker 3: my family that has no musical ability. Mayor my dad
39:31
Speaker 3: was a gospel singer or a published songwriter. My sister
39:34
Speaker 3: can sing. My dad would say that boy sings in
39:37
Speaker 3: the key of L, and then you'd say L, and
39:39
Speaker 3: then he would say it rough ast to go, Well,
39:40
Speaker 3: it sounds like L. And you just got to say
39:43
Speaker 3: that over and over in your head.
39:44
Speaker 11: And you'll get I've already I've already done that. But
39:47
Speaker 11: you have committed to me via text and you will
39:49
Speaker 11: be there, and I will let you know. We'll schedule
39:51
Speaker 11: around your schedule, all.
39:52
Speaker 3: Right, all right, I'll see what I can do.
39:54
Speaker 11: And it is, it is. It is going to be
39:55
Speaker 11: a really nice venue to Peter's in it have tables,
40:00
Speaker 11: have chairs, you can bring your uh you know, bring
40:02
Speaker 11: your back chairs and just hang out the big Really
40:06
Speaker 11: people on Hurricane are this fellowship and just having something
40:10
Speaker 11: to do on Frida here Saturday night. And I already
40:12
Speaker 11: had bands contact me. I've had another one this morning
40:15
Speaker 11: contact me via Facebook messenger and they said, please keep
40:19
Speaker 11: me in mind. We got the actually the message said,
40:21
Speaker 11: we got the boys back together. We were in a
40:23
Speaker 11: band for a long time. We got the boys back together,
40:25
Speaker 11: and we've been practicing. We would love to love to
40:28
Speaker 11: show off who we are.
40:29
Speaker 3: Well, how did a saw thing come about? Marmon? Who's
40:32
Speaker 3: I mean? Where did this idea come from? And you
40:33
Speaker 3: mentioned it's going to be in the hurricane the old
40:36
Speaker 3: Hurricane Fire Department building. How did this whole idea come about?
40:40
Speaker 11: Well, it was brought up Hurrikan Construction Services. That's our
40:45
Speaker 11: team of people that do a lot in Hurricane. Uh.
40:47
Speaker 11: They brought up some ideas and and then I started
40:50
Speaker 11: talking to people in town, you know, started talking to
40:53
Speaker 11: the folks and said, hey, this idea has come up.
40:56
Speaker 11: We have a really good building and it needs something,
41:00
Speaker 11: you know, it needs it needs to be doing something
41:02
Speaker 11: for Hurricane. So as I started talking to people, nobody
41:06
Speaker 11: said no. You know, the community, the people that I've
41:09
Speaker 11: talked to, everybody thought it was a great idea because
41:12
Speaker 11: it can bring people together, bring people to Main Street
41:16
Speaker 11: and it will be a vast array of bands. You know,
41:19
Speaker 11: think about a gospel band on a Friday night, Saturday night,
41:22
Speaker 11: a country band maybe the next Friday night of bluegrass
41:25
Speaker 11: band and these this local talent can can show off
41:29
Speaker 11: what they do, and that's that's what's really important. But
41:32
Speaker 11: driving people to Main Street and Fellowship is what it's
41:35
Speaker 11: all about.
41:36
Speaker 3: And uh so what else will go along with that?
41:38
Speaker 3: Because I mean you mentioned maybe a food truck and
41:41
Speaker 3: uh and some other things. What it's We're not going
41:44
Speaker 3: to hold you to it because plans change. But what
41:45
Speaker 3: are some of the other ideas that you'd like to
41:48
Speaker 3: see with this entertainment center.
41:50
Speaker 11: You know, maybe a local dance studio wants to wants
41:54
Speaker 11: to show off to the not really show off, but
41:57
Speaker 11: show the public what they do. Uh, that would be
41:59
Speaker 11: great for the You know, we've got a couple of
42:01
Speaker 11: awesome dance studios right in Hurricane and they could they
42:04
Speaker 11: could use it and show the community what, you know,
42:06
Speaker 11: what they do. You on stage doing stand up comedy,
42:10
Speaker 11: I've really thought, We've had thought a lot about that.
42:13
Speaker 11: Will dedicate an hour just to you.
42:14
Speaker 3: Well now, now listen, I have done some stand up comedy, okay,
42:18
Speaker 3: but I'm not No, I'm just a guy that warms
42:21
Speaker 3: up the crowd. I can hook you up with people
42:23
Speaker 3: like Brian Thompson BT and and people like that. We
42:26
Speaker 3: got a lot of them here from from Hurricane. Uh, well,
42:29
Speaker 3: we'll get all those folks there and we'll make that happened.
42:32
Speaker 4: That would be great.
42:33
Speaker 11: And even magicians on stage, yeah, I have a kid,
42:36
Speaker 11: not have some have some magic and some giveaways and
42:39
Speaker 11: that type of thing. Just just be a really fun event.
42:41
Speaker 11: And again, plans will change, will add to this, but
42:44
Speaker 11: it should be really really good for downtown Hurricane and
42:47
Speaker 11: for really everybody Tupton County and all around to come
42:49
Speaker 11: over and fellowship with What is the timeline?
42:51
Speaker 3: Approximately? Things change, we know, but I mean when when
42:54
Speaker 3: would you ideally like to see this thing up and
42:56
Speaker 3: running by spring? So what you said, Mayor, you just
43:04
Speaker 3: take a piece during the winter, all right? All right,
43:06
Speaker 3: I'm sorry you cut out a little bit. So you
43:07
Speaker 3: said spring?
43:08
Speaker 11: Right? Oh, yes, there a spring?
43:10
Speaker 3: All right?
43:11
Speaker 11: Uh.
43:11
Speaker 3: I got a question here for you, Mayor, because I
43:13
Speaker 3: know you're always good, but somebody wanted to know if
43:15
Speaker 3: you and if you can't comment on that's fine. Somebody
43:17
Speaker 3: text has shown one wanted to know what was being
43:19
Speaker 3: put in down. Putting in a Hurricane Creek road is
43:23
Speaker 3: what it says. The exact text is asked, Scott, what
43:25
Speaker 3: is being put in down Hurricane Creek Road.
43:29
Speaker 11: Okay, so just just past the entrance to Walmart, some
43:34
Speaker 11: land has been purchased and the land is being wearied
43:36
Speaker 11: right now. And that's the only permit that the company
43:38
Speaker 11: has pulled is to clear land. It looks like it's
43:41
Speaker 11: going to be three to four acres of flat cleared land.
43:44
Speaker 11: But we don't know yet, right Okay, actually I really
43:47
Speaker 11: don't know.
43:48
Speaker 3: All right, that's not politically something.
43:50
Speaker 11: There will be something. There will be something going in
43:52
Speaker 11: fairly soon. I have a feeling because it's it's wonderful land.
43:55
Speaker 3: Here's a text for you, mayor since somebody says, consider
43:58
Speaker 3: a kind of a masked singer to karaoke out at
44:01
Speaker 3: that facility. That would be fun. I could see that
44:04
Speaker 3: working because you get people that are well known in
44:07
Speaker 3: the community, you put a mask on, having them go
44:08
Speaker 3: out there and have people try to guess who they are.
44:10
Speaker 3: How's that?
44:12
Speaker 11: I love it? I love it. It would work for you. You know,
44:14
Speaker 11: you've got the voice for in the face, for red face.
44:17
Speaker 11: I've never heard that we could mask you right up.
44:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I'm just thinking about how much fun
44:21
Speaker 3: that could be. You know, you get you get some
44:24
Speaker 3: people from like you know, I'm thinking County Commission. Uh,
44:28
Speaker 3: you know some We'll get our friend Ashley from the
44:30
Speaker 3: Chamber of Commerce, or Kelly Steele or somebody like that.
44:33
Speaker 3: Uh uh, we could get Zach Creed because everybody would
44:36
Speaker 3: be able to know Zach Creed right away. I'm just
44:38
Speaker 3: talking about some well known Putnam Countians right now.
44:40
Speaker 11: So I will say, right now, we will do that,
44:42
Speaker 11: and that will be on a Friday or Saturday night
44:44
Speaker 11: in the future, and we will put that on our
44:46
Speaker 11: schedule and we will do that, and I will let
44:48
Speaker 11: you help me coordinate the people.
44:50
Speaker 3: All right, Can you handle one more text before I
44:52
Speaker 3: let you go. Somebody wanted to know about paving on
44:54
Speaker 3: Route sixty. I know it's out of your wheelhouse, but
44:55
Speaker 3: do you have any updates on that?
44:58
Speaker 7: I do not.
44:58
Speaker 11: That's all Department of Highway and we work at the
45:00
Speaker 11: Department Highways, but I do not have a date on that.
45:03
Speaker 3: Mary. It's always a pleasure to have you on the show.
45:06
Speaker 3: And I'm already warming up. Just so you know, my
45:08
Speaker 3: go to karaoke is skinnered. Give me three steps, so
45:12
Speaker 3: I will do that. I'll do give me three steps.
45:14
Speaker 3: How's that?
45:15
Speaker 11: Okay, it's on. It's a deal.
45:18
Speaker 3: Mayor Scott Edwards appreciate you being here. We'll talk Soonboddy
45:20
Speaker 3: thinks a lot. Thanks eight minutes away from ten. Well,
45:23
Speaker 3: I didn't say I did it well. But the whole
45:25
Speaker 3: idea behind karaoke is it's not supposed to be good,
45:28
Speaker 3: so's supposed to be fun. I love that idea. From
45:30
Speaker 3: a texture though. You get some well known people, you
45:33
Speaker 3: mask them up and you have them karaoke and then
45:35
Speaker 3: have people guess who they are. I think it'd be
45:37
Speaker 3: a great fundraiser if you wanted to guess, to participate
45:40
Speaker 3: and pay ten dollars. It goes to, you know, some
45:42
Speaker 3: sort of a shelter, an animal shelter. My mind always
45:45
Speaker 3: goes there or something like that. I think it'd be
45:48
Speaker 3: a great idea. Okay, we're overdue for a break. The

46:47
Speaker 10: always remains consistent is the car buying experience at Walker
46:51
Speaker 10: Chevrolet in Nitro. You see, that's because Gene and Ryan
46:54
Speaker 10: built their business the old fashioned way by making friends.
46:57
Speaker 10: There are no gimmicker games in Walker, just honest fear deals,
47:01
Speaker 10: and the process at Walker is remarkably simple. They help
47:05
Speaker 10: you find a vehicle that you love and a deal
47:07
Speaker 10: that makes you smile and don't forget. Walker is still
47:10
Speaker 10: buying cars too.
47:11
Speaker 11: Now.
47:11
Speaker 10: All makes and models are welcome, and they'll give you
47:14
Speaker 10: a top dollar for it, even if you plan to
47:16
Speaker 10: buy somewhere else.
47:17
Speaker 3: But why would you?
47:18
Speaker 10: You know, It's good to know that in a world
47:20
Speaker 10: full of constant change, there are some things that remain
47:23
Speaker 10: consistent and that some car dealers still believe in treating
47:26
Speaker 10: you like a friend with a smile and a handshakee
47:29

48:37
Speaker 3: Tex says Dave. We are blessed to have Mayor Scott
48:40
Speaker 3: Edwards as our mayor in Hurricane Thank you, Texa, Dave,
48:42
Speaker 3: what about micro wrestling, Well, you know, it sounds to
48:45
Speaker 3: me like the Mayor's up to up for about anything.
48:48
Speaker 3: Tex says Dave. Digital speed limit signs on all of
48:51
Speaker 3: our West Virginia interstates would save lives. We know where
48:53
Speaker 3: the accident prone areas are and could lower speed limits
48:56
Speaker 3: during bad weather. It's been discussed for years. I suppose
48:58
Speaker 3: West Virginia can't afford it. I'm not opposed to it,
49:01
Speaker 3: but I don't know how many people are going to
49:02
Speaker 3: pay attention to it. I mean, to be honest with you,
49:04
Speaker 3: it's a great idea, but I mean, you know, people
49:07
Speaker 3: don't pay attention to the other lines or the other
49:09
Speaker 3: signs I should say, So, I don't know why they
49:10
Speaker 3: would pay attention to those. I mean, look, I had
49:13
Speaker 3: to run an errand for a family member to Barbersville
49:18
Speaker 3: last week, and I had drop someone off, and I
49:22
Speaker 3: was on my way back, and I was on sixty
49:23
Speaker 3: four getting on the interstate from around Barbersville and coming
49:27
Speaker 3: back toward Hurricane and I'm in the construction zone and
49:30
Speaker 3: I am doing fifty five miles an hour and I've
49:33
Speaker 3: got and I think I'm going to get ran over
49:35
Speaker 3: in a construction zone because the speed limit is fifty
49:37
Speaker 3: five miles an hour, that particular stretch could have actually
49:40
Speaker 3: been a little bit lower than that. And I'm doing
49:42
Speaker 3: you know, I'm doing the speed limit fifty five in
49:45
Speaker 3: the construction zone, and I mean I am getting I
49:49
Speaker 3: practically got ran over. So I don't know how you
49:53
Speaker 3: fix that. I mean, signs will I don't know what
49:56
Speaker 3: signs will do any good to be honest with you.

Speaker 3: Elite Wrestling AEW is coming to the Martiall Health Network
50:35
Speaker 3: Arena in Huntington Saturday night. One of the guys participating,
50:38
Speaker 3: he's one of the hottest guys out there in the
50:40
Speaker 3: business right now. His name is Kyle Fletcher, and he's
50:43
Speaker 3: actually going to stop by the studio tomorrow. And the
50:45
Speaker 3: only thing I can say is is again, I'm an
50:47
Speaker 3: old school wrestling guy, spent a lot of years in
50:49
Speaker 3: the business. I don't really follow it as much now.
50:54
Speaker 3: I rely on guys like Matt Sutton and Adam Harrison,
50:56
Speaker 3: Tim Brady to tell me what's going on. This guy
50:59
Speaker 3: is a big, big deal and he's going to be
51:01
Speaker 3: in studio whether it's tomorrow prior. Of course, the show
51:04
Speaker 3: is Saturday night in Huntington. And I will say this,
51:08
Speaker 3: the girls out front were very excited that Kyle Fletcher's
51:11
Speaker 3: coming to the studio tomorrow. That's all I got to
51:13
Speaker 3: say about that. They were very we were very excited
51:18
Speaker 3: about that. Going back to the entertainment venue in Hurricane,
51:21
Speaker 3: text has also had throw back an eighties style roller
51:24
Speaker 3: skating rink, all skates and couple skates. Today's kids just
51:28
Speaker 3: don't know DJ Meadows is here. So if you miss
51:33
Speaker 3: the interview, because I know you're busily prepared for the show,
51:35
Speaker 3: we're getting it big and you live in Putnam County
51:37
Speaker 3: as well. We're getting a big entertainment venue really coming
51:40
Speaker 3: to downtown Hurricane. I just had Mayor Scott Edwards on
51:42
Speaker 3: talking about multi level type deal concerts and this thing,
51:46
Speaker 3: and the idea was thrown out there. I texted the
51:49
Speaker 3: mayor this morning and I said, would you be willing
51:51
Speaker 3: to come on the show. It's short notice. He said,
51:52
Speaker 3: only if you agree to do karaoke, So they're doing
51:55
Speaker 3: a high end karaoke there too, And I've agreed. Is
51:58
Speaker 3: this thing a done deal? It's going to happen. Yeah, yeah,
52:00
Speaker 3: it'll open in spring. Oh wow, that's I mean, anytime
52:04
Speaker 3: you deal with winter and supply chain, that's the best
52:06
Speaker 3: case scenario. I've already agreed to do Gimme three Steps,
52:08
Speaker 3: which is my go to skinnered song. So if I
52:11
Speaker 3: am willing to do that, Meadows, don't you step up
52:13
Speaker 3: with me?
52:14
Speaker 4: Oh buddy, I'll do karaoke.
52:15
Speaker 3: That's okay. What would your song be? Oh geez, maybe
52:18
Speaker 3: I'll do some Dean Martin kicking the head. Yeah, a
52:22
Speaker 3: little Sinatra Dean Martin or Sinatra Dean mart Yeah, kind
52:25
Speaker 3: of thing. All right, quickly, what's on the show today?
52:27
Speaker 3: I just want to go around in circles with my
52:29
Speaker 3: roller skates. You let's leave it there. How's that because
52:33
Speaker 3: sometimes sometimes on your show, on my show, we do
52:35
Speaker 3: frequently go around a circus. Meadows and Wilson coming up
52:39
Speaker 3: with talk Line. I'll be back later today with Metro News,
52:41
Speaker 3: Midday with thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor Manda Baron,
52:44
Speaker 3: who's also agreed to do karaoke. She just doesn't know
52:46
