• 1:18
Speaker 4: today one way or the other. Chris Lawrence is in
• 1:20
Speaker 4: studio with me this morning, so we can talk a
• 1:21
Speaker 4: little bit about it's going on in high school football.
• 1:23
Speaker 5: Talk about tearing your radios off.
• 1:25
Speaker 4: Well, now they'll keep him here, So say, right where

• 1:55
Speaker 4: a little bit later on in this discussion too, when
• 1:57
Speaker 4: Tom Bragg steps into the phone slab. Chris Lawrence is
• 2:00
Speaker 4: with me here this morning, of course, part of our
• 2:03
Speaker 4: Friday night football team following the Hurricane Redskins this year, right,
• 2:07
Speaker 4: and it's been an interesting season so far. Yeah, and it.
• 2:10
Speaker 6: Really takes a kind of a transition tonight because Hurricanes
• 2:14
Speaker 6: really just it's been coming one right after the other.
• 2:17
Speaker 6: And last week that you would have thought cabl Midland
• 2:20
Speaker 6: came into that game with winless, but you knew that
• 2:23
Speaker 6: they were going to come in there and fight because
• 2:25
Speaker 6: that's such a rivalry game between those two schools and
• 2:28
Speaker 6: Louis ma Ho they did and Hurricane did not. They
• 2:30
Speaker 6: played kind of sloppy, and even Donnie Mays admitted that
• 2:33
Speaker 6: when I talked to him, he said, you know, we
• 2:34
Speaker 6: just did. We did look crisp in that first half.
• 2:36
Speaker 6: We kind of took them for granted because they hadn't
• 2:38
Speaker 6: won a game, and they came out there and they
• 2:40
Speaker 6: you know, they played and they and they they gave
• 2:42
Speaker 6: them their best shot. Now Hurricane was able to pull
• 2:45
Speaker 6: away late in the game and got the win. That's
• 2:48
Speaker 6: something that the Hurricane's going to have to guard against
• 2:51
Speaker 6: for several more weeks as they're coming up against opponents
• 2:54
Speaker 6: that are, you know, trying to rebuild their programs and
• 2:56
Speaker 6: trying to put together wins, and they're you know, they
• 2:58
Speaker 6: they have a the fewer players and they're trying to
• 3:02
Speaker 6: just find the right combination in Saint Albans is one
• 3:04
Speaker 6: of those. Tonight they've not got to win either. But
• 3:06
Speaker 6: Hurrican learn last week if you lay down, every team's
• 3:09
Speaker 6: gonna come at you, and you better be ready for everything.
• 3:12
Speaker 6: So the challenge, and you know, the challenge is to
• 3:15
Speaker 6: fight complacency and to play consistently every time you go
• 3:19
Speaker 6: out on the field, regardless of the opponent. Sod be
• 3:21
Speaker 6: interesting to see if Hurricane can keep that momentum going.
• 3:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, I would love to see. And we talk about
• 3:26
Speaker 4: this every year, about a more competitive Saint Albans. You know,
• 3:28
Speaker 4: when I grew up in the when my sister went
• 3:30
Speaker 4: up there in the eighties, and when Randy Barnes was
• 3:32
Speaker 4: over there, and Saint Albans was a pretty good team
• 3:34
Speaker 4: and was always a player in the valley. It hasn't
• 3:36
Speaker 4: been that way in a long time now.
• 3:38
Speaker 6: The last time that I think that they were really
• 3:40
Speaker 6: in the conversation was seven when they went to Wheeling
• 3:43
Speaker 6: and Derek Christian was the coach and they had a
• 3:45
Speaker 6: really good team that year. And since that time it
• 3:48
Speaker 6: seems like they have really struggled. And you know, the
• 3:51
Speaker 6: transfer portal as they call it now in high school
• 3:54
Speaker 6: football has not been good to them, and several other
• 3:57
Speaker 6: schools around the valley have endured that same kind of
• 3:59
Speaker 6: fate as well. Riverside's another one that, you know, proud
• 4:02
Speaker 6: program that has just taking their lumps for what for
• 4:05
Speaker 6: one reason or another, in the consistency there has just
• 4:08
Speaker 6: not been there. But uh, you know that that that happens.
• 4:13
Speaker 6: And these are schools that you know. First year coach
• 4:15
Speaker 6: Derek Stotts at Saint Albans is trying to lay a
• 4:19
Speaker 6: foundation there for to rebuild that program, and it is
• 4:22
  Speaker 6: a complete rebuild he's and he's having a hard time
• 4:25
Speaker 6: with it because he has so many injuries. He was
• 4:28
Speaker 6: telling me yesterday that just about all of the offensive
• 4:32
Speaker 6: line that he penciled in to start the season is
• 4:35
Speaker 6: out for the year, and they're only halfway through their
• 4:38
Speaker 6: schedule and they're coming up on that part of their
• 4:40
Speaker 6: schedule where they might be have have a little more
• 4:43
Speaker 6: competitive opportunity to win a few games against other teams
• 4:48
Speaker 6: like them that are trying to rebuild and trying to
• 4:50
Speaker 6: start over. So you know, it comes at a tough
• 4:52
Speaker 6: time for him. Those injuries are really just not doing
• 4:55
Speaker 6: him any favors at this point.
• 4:56
Speaker 5: So he had no illusions. He knew it was a challenge,
• 4:59
Speaker 5: and he knows Night's game will be a challenge.
• 5:01
Speaker 4: Taking a step away from that for just a moment.
• 5:03
Speaker 4: One thing that I find pretty interesting, and you talked
• 5:05
Speaker 4: about the transfer portal on how many schools have had
• 5:08
Speaker 4: trouble adjusting to this. You kind of have the haves
• 5:10
Speaker 4: and the have nots and so forth. One thing I
• 5:13
Speaker 4: find that's kind of interesting, and we wondered what kind
• 5:14
Speaker 4: of impact it would have both South Charleston and Capitol
• 5:17
Speaker 4: last season where those teams that unfortunately were on the
• 5:20
Speaker 4: on the negative side of a lot of fifty to
• 5:23
Speaker 4: seven games, sixty three to ten games, things along those lines. Yeah,
• 5:28
Speaker 4: a lot of games where they didn't even score or
• 5:29
Speaker 4: would score like a courtesy touchdown in the fourth quarter
• 5:32
Speaker 4: or something like that. South Charleston still struggling a little bit,
• 5:36
Speaker 4: trying to get better. Coach carp came back to Capitol. Yep. Competitive,
• 5:40
Speaker 4: I mean maybe not against the elite elite, but they're
• 5:43
Speaker 4: scoring points, stopping some folks. Competitive Again, keep it in
• 5:46
Speaker 4: mind though, that the Capital is now not competing in
• 5:49
Speaker 4: that big deal a so that helps them out a
• 5:53
Speaker 4: little bit and gives them a little more competitive. They're
• 5:55
Speaker 4: still playing that quad a schedule tonight, They've got George
• 5:58
Speaker 4: Washington and that will definitely be a test for them.
• 6:00
Speaker 4: But yeah, they've they've found a way to compete. And
• 6:03
Speaker 4: Carp's got him rallied again because he's pretty good at
• 6:06
Speaker 4: getting those guys to play for him. And not that
• 6:07
Speaker 4: becaus coach Mason. It's just that, Yeah, some guys have
• 6:10
Speaker 4: been in the and just been in the game for
• 6:12
Speaker 4: a while and and and uh, it's interesting to see
• 6:14
Speaker 4: that because we wonder how much coaching means sometimes and
• 6:18
Speaker 4: and I think a lot of time does community relationships
• 6:20
Speaker 4: and relationships with parents and players and things like that.
• 6:23
Speaker 4: And he just has a long time in the area.
• 6:25
Speaker 6: He doesn't and and carp has a way and I
• 6:28
Speaker 6: don't know if it will work at any other school,
• 6:29
Speaker 6: but he has away with those Capital guys to get
• 6:31
  Speaker 6: them to play.
• 6:32
  Speaker 4: That's absolutely true.
• 6:33
  Speaker 6: And it's and it's really a it's a it's a
• 6:36
Speaker 6: beautiful thing to watch him coach them because he will
• 6:38
Speaker 6: sit back there and he will poor mouth his coaching ability,
• 6:41
Speaker 6: but he can get him up when he needs to
• 6:42
Speaker 6: and he knows that. So as an alum, he's done
• 6:45
Speaker 6: he tries to be done like a fox.
• 6:47
Speaker 4: A little bit there. As an alum, I like seeing
• 6:48
Speaker 4: Capitol at least competitive again. You know that the trip
• 6:51
Speaker 4: away thing kind of hurts me in my heart because
• 6:52
Speaker 4: you know, they were like the biggest school, the best
• 6:54
Speaker 4: of the of the future and all that. When you
• 6:57
Speaker 4: know when I graduated.
• 6:58
Speaker 6: When you were there, I mean they were they were
• 6:59
Speaker 6: in the National conversation every year. They were one of
• 7:02
  Speaker 6: those kind.
• 7:02
Speaker 4: Of a brandom school. I went its first year in existence.
• 7:05
Speaker 4: I was the first class that went all the way through.
• 7:06
Speaker 6: If I'm not mistaken that they didn't. Was it Jefferson
• 7:10
Speaker 6: Pilot Sports or somebody Raycom Sports or somebody actually put
• 7:14
Speaker 6: their games on national TV.
• 7:16
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was one of the It was the predecessor.
• 7:17
Speaker 4: It was like sports Net South or something like that,
• 7:20
Speaker 4: was the predecessor of like the regional networks that we
• 7:21
Speaker 4: have now, right exactly. Yeah.
• 7:23
Speaker 6: I wasn't here when that happened, but I was told
• 7:25
Speaker 6: that that it was a huge deal.
• 7:28
Speaker 4: It was a darkest stormy night, my friend, and it
• 7:30
Speaker 4: really was. They I think they had to delay the game,
• 7:33
Speaker 4: as we know a lot about now. Yeah, so they
• 7:35
Speaker 4: had to delay the game. There was lightning strikes. They
• 7:37
Speaker 4: had game for a while. Yeah, it was crazy, Holy cat.
• 7:40
Speaker 4: I remember one of my friends got the first time
• 7:42
Speaker 4: I ever witnessed a concussion in real life was during
• 7:44
Speaker 4: that game. And one of my friends came to the sidelines,
• 7:46
Speaker 4: had no idea what day of the week it was, literally,
• 7:48
Speaker 4: had no idea what day of the week it was.
• 7:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, and they probably looked at him and went, what's
• 7:52
  Speaker 5: wrong with you?
• 7:53
Speaker 4: Get back in there, back at that point in time,
• 7:55
Speaker 4: Get back in there, suck it up, see saying.
• 7:57
Speaker 6: Track back when I yeah, back when I played, you
• 7:59
Speaker 6: never you never told anybody you were hurt, unless you
• 8:02
Speaker 6: literally were carrying one of your body parts in your
• 8:04
Speaker 6: hand off the field because you might not get back
• 8:06
Speaker 6: in there. H absolutely work too hard to play. I
• 8:09
  Speaker 6: don't want to leave, It's true. So that's that's kind
• 8:12
Speaker 6: of how it was.
• 8:13
Speaker 4: So seven o'clock tonight is going to be our pre
• 8:15
Speaker 4: game seven thirty kickoff. It's going to be a hurricane
• 8:16
Speaker 4: going across the bridge to take on the Red Dragons.
• 8:18
Speaker 6: Indeed, and we will have after that Metro News game night,
• 8:21
Speaker 6: Fred and Dave will have all the scores for you,
• 8:23
Speaker 6: So tune in and we'll bring you all the action
• 8:26
Speaker 6: from Crawford Field, Historic Crawford Field rock and.
• 8:29
Speaker 4: Roll sounds great, man, appreciate it. Chris, thanks the time.
• 8:31
Speaker 4: That's Chris Lawrence. He's going to be part of our
• 8:33
Speaker 4: team tonight with Aaron Parker covering the Hurricane Redskins taking
• 8:36
Speaker 4: on the sant Albans Red Dragons. Seven o'clock will be
• 8:38
Speaker 4: our pre game on high school football tonight. Tom Bragg
• 8:41
Speaker 4: is on the phone with us. He is the part
• 8:44
Speaker 4: of our other broadcast crew, which actually both of them here.
• 8:46
Speaker 4: Matt Murphy's producing this morning across the glass room. It's
• 8:48
Speaker 4: Matt and Tom take On. They do the Hurrican games
• 8:52
Speaker 4: over in Oursistation ninety six one, Superstar Country KWS. Tom.
• 8:55
Speaker 4: Good morning, how you doing this morning, Coop.
• 8:58
Speaker 7: I'm doing great. I just got to listen to Chris
• 9:00
Speaker 7: Lawrence talked about coach carp and classic high school football
• 9:03
Speaker 7: on Jefferson Pilot. That's like Tom Brag.
• 9:04
Speaker 4: BINGO, Yeah, here we go, man. I know that, I
• 9:07
Speaker 4: know that that's absolutely true. You and Matt have had
• 9:09
Speaker 4: an interesting season so far as well. Whoever right now
• 9:12
Speaker 4: is kind of the one of the cream of the
• 9:14
Speaker 4: crop when it comes to their class. They've They've put
• 9:17
Speaker 4: together a pretty good season so far. What do you
• 9:19
Speaker 4: see with tonight's game against Chaplanville. I told you they
• 9:22
  Speaker 4: come up again.
• 9:23
Speaker 7: Yeah, the Huskies have it rolling right now.
• 9:25
  Speaker 2: Man.
• 9:25
Speaker 7: There's some really good teams at the top of this
• 9:27
Speaker 7: new class Triple A in the in the four class system.
• 9:31
Speaker 7: Up at the top, Bridgeport, Fairmont Senior, both you know,
• 9:34
Speaker 7: established powerhouse programs Princeton and Hoover. Hoover right there behind
• 9:38
Speaker 7: him though. So it'll be interesting to see how things
• 9:40
Speaker 7: go down the stretch as we start getting lined up
• 9:42
Speaker 7: with playoff seating. But that all starts tonight down in Chapmanville.
• 9:45
Speaker 7: You know the Tigers. It's been a tough season for
• 9:48
Speaker 7: the Tigers, just one win so far. They got to
• 9:50
Speaker 7: win their opener against Cissamville, losses against Winfield Nitro, and
• 9:53
Speaker 7: a big loss against Scott last week. A couple of
• 9:56
Speaker 7: bright spots. They've got a couple kids who can play.
• 9:59
Speaker 7: But man, it just it seemed times are tough right
• 10:01
Speaker 7: now for Chapmanville and it is not a good time
• 10:04
Speaker 7: to be down with Herbert Hoover coming to town, which
• 10:06
Speaker 7: is like I said, these guys have it rolling. Put
• 10:08
Speaker 7: up sixty plus points against Sisamville last week. Dane Hatfield,
• 10:12
Speaker 7: the senior quarterback that seems like he's been around as
• 10:15
Speaker 7: long as I have Carver and high school ball. He's
• 10:18
Speaker 7: having another fantastic year. And it's not one of those like, oh,
• 10:22
Speaker 7: he's got weapons everywhere and he's throwing the ball around.
• 10:25
Speaker 7: He does have weapons everywhere, but everybody's getting touches, everybody's
• 10:28
Speaker 7: getting carries. Hoover's doing it in all three phases of
• 10:32
Speaker 7: the game of Matt and I saw last week that
• 10:34
Speaker 7: big blowout. They opened the game with a kickoff return.
• 10:37
Speaker 7: On the opening touchdown, Sisomville got the ball and punted,
• 10:39
Speaker 7: Hoover blocked at coop. One play later they scored. Systemville
• 10:43
Speaker 7: gets the kickoff, fumbles the return. One play later Hoover scored.
• 10:46
Speaker 7: They'd ran two plays and had kickoff and had scored
• 10:48
Speaker 7: twenty one points. And that's just kind of how things
• 10:50
Speaker 7: have gone so far for the Huskies.
• 10:53
Speaker 4: So that game is going to be tonight on our
• 10:55
Speaker 4: CISU station, Superstar Country ninety six one KWS. You can
• 10:59
Speaker 4: find the We go straight to the kickoff there, so
• 11:01
Speaker 4: that's going to be right at about seven o'clock. Things
• 11:04
Speaker 4: will get started over there. After what do we have
• 11:07
Speaker 4: to look forward to after tonight with Hoover. What's their
• 11:10
Speaker 4: next couple games look like?
• 11:11
Speaker 7: So next week could be an interesting one. The Wayne
• 11:14
Speaker 7: Pioneers coming down to LQ for a big matchup. We think,
• 11:18
Speaker 7: you know, Wayne has an odd team that's been on
• 11:21
Speaker 7: some tough times, but not so long ago, a real
• 11:24
Speaker 7: powerhouse in Class Double A. Started off this season really
• 11:27
Speaker 7: well suffered maybe an I don't want to say unsuspected,
• 11:31
Speaker 7: but there was a lot of hype coming into their
• 11:33
Speaker 7: game with Nitro last week of like is this Wayne
• 11:35
Speaker 7: team for real? And they did not pass the test,
• 11:37
Speaker 7: So we'll see how they bounce back. But that's on
• 11:39
Speaker 7: the schedule. Next week should be interesting.
• 11:41
Speaker 4: That's good stuff. Man. Tom Bragg joining us from our
• 11:44
Speaker 4: broadcast team along with Matt Guitar Murphy on our citusation
• 11:48
Speaker 4: Superstar Country ninety six to one KWS on the Hoover
• 11:50
Speaker 4: broadcast tonight, taking on Chapmanville and Chapmanville. You can tune
• 11:54
Speaker 4: into that at ninety six to one FM and ninety
• 11:57
Speaker 4: six one FM dot com or ninety six one FM
• 12:00
Speaker 4: Kato Bis whatever their website is, you can find it
• 12:02
Speaker 4: over there as well. Tom. Thanks a bunch of your
• 12:04
Speaker 4: time this morning. I appreciate that.
• 12:05
  Speaker 7: Hey, thanks, Coop.
• 12:06
Speaker 4: I we'll talk to you later on that. Tom Bragg
• 12:08
Speaker 4: from our broadcast team for the Hoover Broadcast that we'll
• 12:10
Speaker 4: be taking on tonight. And if you listen to us
• 12:13
Speaker 4: on Fridays, then you know now it's time to talk
• 12:15
Speaker 4: about the pooches as well. And this is a this
• 12:19
Speaker 4: is a very cute dog. We're talking about Marshmellow. And
• 12:22
Speaker 4: let's go ahead and bring on Hannah this morning from
• 12:24
Speaker 4: the Kanak Humane Society. Hannah, good morning. How are you
• 12:26
  Speaker 4: doing this morning?
• 12:27
  Speaker 8: I'm good.
• 12:28
  Speaker 9: How are you?
• 12:29
Speaker 4: I'm doing very well. I appreciate your Tom and coming
• 12:31
Speaker 4: on to talk to us a little bit. Can you
• 12:33
Speaker 4: tell us about Marshmallow?
• 12:36
Speaker 8: Yeah, So, Marshmallow is a very very sweet, cute girl.
• 12:42
Speaker 8: I'm not sure exactly what she is. I mean, she
• 12:45
Speaker 8: kind of looks like she's got a little bit of
• 12:47
Speaker 8: pity in her. She could have a multitude of other
• 12:51
Speaker 8: things in her. She's a very muscular looking girl. She's
• 12:55
Speaker 8: very very cute and sweet, but she is around two
• 12:58
Speaker 8: years old. She's like trips and vaccinated already. She came
• 13:02
Speaker 8: in as astray to Kseyha. So we're not entirely sure
• 13:06
Speaker 8: of her background or much of really how her personality is,
• 13:11
Speaker 8: except for while she's been with us. We do know
• 13:15
Speaker 8: that she is very very smart and knows how to
• 13:19
Speaker 8: come senses. So if you are someone who maybe just
• 13:24
Speaker 8: gets your dog from wherever and takes it outside and
• 13:28
Speaker 8: just lets it roam on supervised, maybe would stay with
• 13:32
Speaker 8: her for just a while just to make sure that
• 13:34
Speaker 8: you know she's comfortable and your yard, you're comfortable with her,
• 13:38
Speaker 8: and she can just make sure that she's not gonna
• 13:40
Speaker 8: jump your face. She has jumped a few fences before.
• 13:44
Speaker 8: Side just want to make sure that that's clear for everybody.
• 13:47
Speaker 8: She does prefer calmer dogs as friends, so if you
• 13:52
Speaker 8: have another hyperactive, energetic dog, she might not do too
• 13:56
Speaker 8: well with that, just because she's kind of on the
• 13:58
Speaker 8: commerce side herself. She does play. She is playful, but
• 14:02
Speaker 8: she likes to lay down when she's ready to lay down.
• 14:06
  Speaker 8: She's very kid friendly from what we've noticed. She's a
• 14:09
Speaker 8: social butterfly. She has a fully sponsored adoption fee, so
• 14:13
Speaker 8: if you plan on adopting her, you wouldn't have to
• 14:16
Speaker 8: pay anything unless she is not fixed already, which I
• 14:21
Speaker 8: don't think she is, but she probably would say it's
• 14:25
Speaker 8: a shelter to get sixed, and then you would pick
• 14:27
Speaker 8: her up after she's sick.
• 14:29
Speaker 4: Now I go, I gotta admit it. At about a
• 14:32
Speaker 4: little under forty pounds, this is for somebody that's looking
• 14:35
Speaker 4: for kind of a medium sized dog without it being
• 14:36
Speaker 4: too small. This is a This is a perfect sized dog.
• 14:39
Speaker 4: She looks a little bit like the This might be
• 14:42
Speaker 4: too old for you, Hannah, but it looks a little
• 14:44
Speaker 4: bit like the the our game dog, the Little Rascals
• 14:46
Speaker 4: dog with the spot around its eye and stuff like that.
• 14:49
Speaker 4: Looks a little bit like that dog. If you know,
• 14:53
Speaker 4: you know, it's just leave it. There are a lot
• 14:54
Speaker 4: of our listeners still know what I'm talking about. The
• 14:56
Speaker 4: dog looks a little bit of like a a very fetching,
• 14:58
Speaker 4: a very fetching animal, and folks that are looking to
• 15:03
Speaker 4: adopt could do a lot worse because this dog is
• 15:05
Speaker 4: absolutely a cute little thing.
• 15:08
Speaker 8: Yes, yes, she's very very cute. She's very sweet. We've
• 15:11
Speaker 8: had her in playgroups with the other dogs before and
• 15:14
Speaker 8: she pretty much just keeps to herself, but she'll engage
• 15:16
Speaker 8: with some of the other dogs in play for a minute.
• 15:19
Speaker 8: But again she's like you said, she's right at that
• 15:22
Speaker 8: thirty eight thirty nine mark on her waist. So she's
• 15:26
Speaker 8: a perfect sized dog. She's the perfect family dog. I
• 15:30
Speaker 8: would say, of course, I always say this every single time.
• 15:33
Speaker 8: I always advise caution, no matter how friendly we have
• 15:36
Speaker 8: seen them be with kids and other dogs, I just
• 15:40
Speaker 8: go ahead and don't leave anything unsupervised and just keep
• 15:44
Speaker 8: that caution just so that way you're better safe than sorry.
• 15:47
Speaker 4: I just want to remind folks that we have Marshmallow available.
• 15:50
Speaker 4: Of course, who is a cute dog that would be
• 15:52
Speaker 4: perfect for your family. But there is a lot going
• 15:55
Speaker 4: on at the at the Charleston I found like a
• 15:59
Speaker 4: human society that we need to talk about. There's almost
• 16:01
Speaker 4: one hundred and thirty dogs that you have in house there.
• 16:04
Speaker 8: Yes, we are currently in a big crisis of over capacity.
• 16:09
Speaker 8: I think we are between twelve and fourteen dogs over capacity.
• 16:14
Speaker 8: So once again we were downs just to critical capacity.
• 16:20
Speaker 8: Now we're over critical capacity and it keeps kind of
• 16:23
Speaker 8: Peter Totten between the two. So we definitely need help.
• 16:28
Speaker 8: You can help that fostering if you want to take
• 16:30
Speaker 8: a dog or two that are approved to go together
• 16:33
Speaker 8: out to a foster home for the week, for the weekend,
• 16:36
Speaker 8: for a couple of weeks, however long you are comfortable
• 16:39
Speaker 8: with doing so. It's definitely great for the animals. It
• 16:42
Speaker 8: gets going to break from the shelter life, and it's
• 16:44
Speaker 8: also proven that it doesn't cause an additional stress to
• 16:47
Speaker 8: come back. You can volunteer donate. Of course, we're always
• 16:51
Speaker 8: in need of perian a dog, chow, treat toys, use linens,
• 16:55
Speaker 8: Felicia's callers, all kinds of stuff, so volunteering also again
• 16:59
Speaker 8: is a very big way to help out. We also
• 17:02
Speaker 8: don't have a lot of staff there, so we're cleaning
• 17:05
Speaker 8: all day every day and if anybody else wants to
• 17:08
Speaker 8: come out and help, we would absolutely appreciate it.
• 17:11
Speaker 4: That is that, of course, would be go a long
• 17:13
Speaker 4: way for folks that do want to help out. Any
• 17:15
Speaker 4: particular way best way to reach out either for trying
• 17:19
Speaker 4: to help out with adoption, to get a hold of
• 17:22
Speaker 4: the Humane Society. What's the best way to reach out
• 17:24
  Speaker 4: to you?
• 17:26
Speaker 8: So if you want to adopt foster, donat ask questions
• 17:29
Speaker 8: anything like that. You can crawl through four three, four, two, one, five,
• 17:34
Speaker 8: seven six and that should get you to if you
• 17:37
Speaker 8: speak to any of the adoption counselors, they should be
• 17:39
Speaker 8: able to help you with any of those questions. You
• 17:43
Speaker 8: can also email at adopted at adopt Charleston dot com,
• 17:47
Speaker 8: so it's adopt at adopt Chileston dot com and then
• 17:51
Speaker 8: you can ask any questions there as well. So you
• 17:53
Speaker 8: can even just come on up and if you want
• 17:55
Speaker 8: to get started volunteering today tomorrow, just come on up
• 18:00
Speaker 8: and we can get you started.
• 18:03
Speaker 4: Last question that I had for you before I let
• 18:05
Speaker 4: you go, Hannah, and I know, I think I know
• 18:07
Speaker 4: the answer to this, but we had a caller or
• 18:09
Speaker 4: a texture that was wondering if kseyj Is taking any
• 18:13
Speaker 4: pets in from the hurricane and floods, and I'm guessing
• 18:16
Speaker 4: you just don't have a room for anything like that.
• 18:18
Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that we would absolutely love to help,
• 18:22
Speaker 8: but I think that we wouldn't be able to help.
• 18:24
  Speaker 10: We wouldn't.
• 18:25
Speaker 8: I think a lot of shelters right now are kind
• 18:27
Speaker 8: of over capacity. I'm sure the ones out that way
• 18:31
Speaker 8: are also extremely overcapacity. I've seen where a lot of
• 18:35
Speaker 8: rescues and other shelters are getting involved and pulling animals
• 18:39
Speaker 8: from there as well. But I think at the moment,
• 18:41
Speaker 8: we probably would not be the best help that and.
• 18:45
Speaker 4: I think that that's very fair and understandable. Hannah, thank
• 18:47
Speaker 4: you so much for your time today. I really appreciate that,
• 18:49
Speaker 4: no problem, you have a great one. You do the same.
• 18:52
Speaker 4: Thank you so much that Hannah joining us as she
• 18:54
Speaker 4: does every week from the Connal Charleston Humane Association. Of course,
• 18:58
Speaker 4: it's a crisis over there with the that we do
• 19:01
Speaker 4: need to have adopted in. Marshmallow is over there waiting
• 19:03
Speaker 4: for you this morning. Forty pounds of a lovable, short
• 19:07
Speaker 4: haired dog looks a lot like the dog from our gang,
• 19:10
Speaker 4: So that gives you an idea of what that QTI
• 19:13
Speaker 4: looks like. So you can contact the Connel Charleston Humane
• 19:15
Speaker 4: Association to adopt Marshmallow and give us a shout out,
• 19:18
Speaker 4: and let us know if you do, because we like
• 19:19
Speaker 4: to know when those things happen. We need to take
• 19:22
Speaker 4: a break here in just a moment, we're going to
• 19:23
Speaker 4: come back with Andrew Donaldson. We're going to talk a
• 19:24
Speaker 4: little bit. This was going to be a primer on
• 19:27
Speaker 4: the long shortman strike, the doc strike, about what we
• 19:31
Speaker 4: had in store for us, about what was going to mean. Well,
• 19:34
Speaker 4: it got pushed off until after the election and all
• 19:37
Speaker 4: that mess. It's going to resume with no other If
• 19:40
Speaker 4: no other negotiations take place, it's going to resume on
• 19:42
Speaker 4: January fifteenth. We're going to get the lowdown of those
• 19:45
Speaker 4: details exactly and some of the background on that when
• 19:47
Speaker 4: we come back here in just eight minutes. So we'll

Speaker 4: You're listening to five eighty love w HS The voice
• 23:10
Speaker 4: of Charles and Am del Cooper come home. Just a moment,
• 23:12
Speaker 4: we're going to have Andrew Donaldson join us. He's going
• 23:15
Speaker 4: to talk about the long shorreman strike that has been
• 23:19
Speaker 4: suspended now and it looks like it's not going to
• 23:24
Speaker 4: come about until January fifteenth. Until January fifteenth, we're going
• 23:27
Speaker 4: to have the long shortman strike that's going to be
• 23:30
Speaker 4: it's going to be delayed until that time. We're trying
• 23:33
Speaker 4: to make connection with Andrew right now. By the way, Matt,
• 23:35
Speaker 4: I told him, you might want to look at the numbers.
• 23:37
Speaker 4: I told him he could try calling us too, so
• 23:38
Speaker 4: he might want to look at the lines. Just a case,
• 23:40
Speaker 4: but he may be he'll be contact with just a moment.
• 23:43
Speaker 4: Having a little bit of a of a technical problem
• 23:45
Speaker 4: with MI end this morning. But also big news last
• 23:48
Speaker 4: night for Reds fans. We didn't touch it on this
• 23:51
Speaker 4: at the beginning of the show, but former Red Sox
• 23:53
Speaker 4: and Indian or Guardians manager Terry Francona has been named
• 23:57
Speaker 4: the manager of the Cincinnati Reds. Two times World Series
• 23:59
Speaker 4: Chairmion nearly a legend when it comes to the managerial
• 24:03
Speaker 4: game in Major League Baseball, So frankly, I'm kind of
• 24:05
Speaker 4: looking forward to what that's going to mean for Reds baseball.
• 24:08
Speaker 4: We'll talk about that later on, probably not so much
• 24:11
Speaker 4: on this show, but tune in later on this afternoon
• 24:13
Speaker 4: on Metro News Hotline after three o'clock, and we'll definitely
• 24:16
Speaker 4: talk about it then with Dave Weekly joining me. Now,
• 24:19
Speaker 4: Andrew Donaldson's going to give us a little bit of
• 24:21
Speaker 4: a primer on the long Shorman strike and what was
• 24:24
Speaker 4: happening at our docks that we've now averted. But Andrew's
• 24:26
Speaker 4: been on this show before, he's hosted this show before,
• 24:29
Speaker 4: and we happen to trip right into a specialty of his,
• 24:32
Speaker 4: which is a transportation Andrew, good morning. How you doing
• 24:35
  Speaker 4: this morning?
• 24:36
Speaker 14: I'm good. Can we just talk about the Reds instead,
• 24:38
Speaker 14: because that's way more exciting than this, even though the
• 24:40
Speaker 14: port stuff is way more important, especially in the longer
• 24:43
Speaker 14: range implications we're going to get into. But I'm excited
• 24:45
Speaker 14: boy that man. It's a young team, they've had a lot,
• 24:47
Speaker 14: let's be honest, an even team that's usually a leadership issue.
• 24:50
Speaker 14: I think this is a good thing.
• 24:51
Speaker 4: I agree. I don't think the Reds could have done
• 24:54
Speaker 4: anything to surprise me more than finding somehow to get
• 24:58
Speaker 4: Terry Francona out of retirement to come by to manage
• 25:00
Speaker 4: the Reds next season. It tells me that they made
• 25:03
Speaker 4: him a pitch that includes they're going to be making
• 25:05
Speaker 4: some moves in the off season, I.
• 25:07
Speaker 14: Would hope so. But yeah, I'm excited, man. And look,
• 25:10
Speaker 14: this port strike thing, this is good news. So the
• 25:13
Speaker 14: Reds got good news, the country gets good news of
• 25:15
Speaker 14: this port strike. But there's a lot of underlying stuff
• 25:17
Speaker 14: that we really need to bookmark on this porch strike
• 25:19
Speaker 14: for what's going to be coming down the road, because
• 25:21
Speaker 14: it goes to a lot of other things.
• 25:22
Speaker 4: My friend, Yeah, it's good. So let's back up just
• 25:26
Speaker 4: a little bit. Can you give us a little bit
• 25:28
Speaker 4: of a setup for what this strike, because I know
• 25:32
Speaker 4: that this all comes down to automation, but walk us
• 25:34
Speaker 4: through a little bit what happened here, the timing of
• 25:36
Speaker 4: what this was going to be, what it really means,
• 25:38
Speaker 4: and what these doc workers, what they mean to our
• 25:41
Speaker 4: economy and supply chain things along those lines, and then
• 25:44
Speaker 4: ultimately what the temporary resolution that came down last night means.
• 25:47
Speaker 14: Yeah, and this also kills a lot of the conspiracy
• 25:49
Speaker 14: theories that people have been saying. So let's go through
• 25:51
Speaker 14: the timeline just real, real quick, and this is going
• 25:53
Speaker 14: to be the real condensed version. Please go re up
• 25:55
Speaker 14: on really good stuff places like great Waves, like get
• 25:58
Speaker 14: some good information on this this strike. Everybody knew this
• 26:01
Speaker 14: was coming since the last contract was signed in twenty eighteen,
• 26:04
Speaker 14: so we've known for six years there was going to
• 26:06
Speaker 14: be a strike on one October of twenty twenty four.
• 26:09
Speaker 14: The reason we knew that was going to happen was
• 26:11
Speaker 14: because the year that they did this contract in twenty eighteen,
• 26:14
Speaker 14: they basically did a placeholder contract. We've seen this in
• 26:16
Speaker 14: other areas. The shipping companies lost money that year, which
• 26:20
Speaker 14: means if the union went in and tried to go
• 26:21
Speaker 14: to the wall with it, there really wasn't going to
• 26:23
Speaker 14: be the money that they were looking to get. So
• 26:25
Speaker 14: they did basically a placeholder contract, and the idea was
• 26:28
Speaker 14: going to be, Okay, twenty twenty four, we're going to
• 26:29
Speaker 14: fight this out, your profits will be up, and we'll
• 26:32
Speaker 14: go from there. So, no, this didn't have anything to
• 26:34
Speaker 14: do with the hurricane, didn't have anything to do really
• 26:37
Speaker 14: with the election year, although they knew it was going
• 26:39
Speaker 14: to be an election year and that would be a
• 26:40
Speaker 14: leverage pull. Look, union contracts are written for one October
• 26:43
Speaker 14: because it's the financial years they kneon Since last year,
• 26:46
Speaker 14: Harold Daggett, the guay that's become the lightning route for this.
• 26:48
Speaker 14: He's been talking about how this was going to be
• 26:49
Speaker 14: a go to the wall strike since last year. The
• 26:52
Speaker 14: three pls to do all the scheduling for this stuff.
• 26:56
Speaker 14: Back in July started clearing all their schedules for the
• 26:58
Speaker 14: end of the year because they knew they were going
• 26:59
Speaker 14: to be a strength. So forget all the conspiracy theories.
• 27:02
Speaker 14: This is a Circadian rhythm the labor They knew this
• 27:05
Speaker 14: was going to be because twenty eighteen the shipping companies
• 27:08
Speaker 14: were losing money. Twenty twenty one, twenty twenty two, twenty
• 27:11
Speaker 14: twenty three, they've been getting record profits, so the union
• 27:14
Speaker 14: was going to get paid. They're like, all right, you've
• 27:16
Speaker 14: got your record profits, we've got you an election year.
• 27:18
Speaker 14: We're going to do this strike. That's the background on
• 27:21
Speaker 14: all this. And they were going to get a big
• 27:22
Speaker 14: pay raise. They were offered fifty percent. They ended up
• 27:24
Speaker 14: with sixty six percent for this temporary thing that they
• 27:28
Speaker 14: just signed. But underneath that, that's the temporary long term.
• 27:31
Speaker 14: It's about the automation reports and them not wanting to
• 27:34
Speaker 14: lose the long shorming jobs that automation is going to
• 27:37
Speaker 14: cut down on because you become more efficient and you
• 27:39
Speaker 14: need less people to work. So that's just the rough background.
• 27:42
Speaker 14: They got it, I said Cob Friday, So I was
• 27:44
Speaker 14: a day early on this thing getting settled. But this
• 27:47
Speaker 14: is where we're at. That's the rough background, and that's
• 27:49
Speaker 14: where we are sitting today.
• 27:51
Speaker 4: What was the stay or the delay or whatever it
• 27:55
Speaker 4: is that that's taking place when the strike, What were
• 28:00
Speaker 4: terms that were attached to that or how did that
• 28:02
Speaker 4: come about? How does that work out? What was the
• 28:04
Speaker 4: government involved, what was involved to get that to go
• 28:07
  Speaker 4: as it did.
• 28:08
Speaker 14: It depends on which version of the story you want
• 28:11
Speaker 14: to believe in Coop because everybody, now that it's done,
• 28:14
Speaker 14: everybody's saying they won, and everybody's saying they were the
• 28:17
Speaker 14: cause for the winning. You know, how these things go.
• 28:20
Speaker 14: The timeline's really interesting if you go through the people
• 28:22
Speaker 14: that actually follow this stuff really closely. And remember the
• 28:25
Speaker 14: national news media doesn't cover transportation unless there's a disaster
• 28:28
Speaker 14: or a hot button issue, so they parachute in the
• 28:32
Speaker 14: negotiations for this right right around noon yesterday. Most people
• 28:36
Speaker 14: said was it's going to get done today. So by
• 28:38
Speaker 14: the time DeSantis did his press conference thing about one,
• 28:41
Speaker 14: this thing was pretty much already settled. They just hadn't
• 28:43
Speaker 14: announced it because they were hammering it out, so that
• 28:45
Speaker 14: didn't have a lot to do with it. How much
• 28:47
Speaker 14: pressure came from outside is the key here. Harold Daggett,
• 28:50
Speaker 14: which is the head of the ISLA, and he has
• 28:52
Speaker 14: been since twenty eleven, so he was there for the
• 28:54
Speaker 14: last thing. He's the one that came out and made
• 28:56
Speaker 14: all those comments about crippling the economy and all this.
• 28:59
Speaker 14: He was by all accounts, and this is everybody kind
• 29:02
Speaker 14: of agrees on this. He did not expect the blowback
• 29:05
Speaker 14: that he got. He should have because he came off
• 29:07
Speaker 14: as a total bad person in all this and was
• 29:09
Speaker 14: very bad pr for the Union. He didn't expect the blowback.
• 29:13
Speaker 14: So there's no version of this where Harold Daggat didn't
• 29:15
Speaker 14: fold off the rhetoric that he was putting out there.
• 29:18
Speaker 14: There's a question of what the government did, because remember,
• 29:20
Speaker 14: the president and the administration has the right to invoke
• 29:22
Speaker 14: what's called heart Tarlie Hart sat, now, I can't talk
• 29:26
Speaker 14: they could taft hardly. They could invoke that and get
• 29:30
Speaker 14: an eighty day cool off. Remember two years ago, the
• 29:32
Speaker 14: railroad union was going to strike right about this time,
• 29:34
Speaker 14: right before Christmas, and the administration stepped in with the
• 29:36
Speaker 14: cool off period. The cool off period would be about
• 29:38
Speaker 14: eighty days for those of you watching the shopping days
• 29:41
Speaker 14: until Christmas, that would be the day after Christmas. If
• 29:43
Speaker 14: they would have done it today, which is what they
• 29:45
Speaker 14: may or may not have been threatened to do.
• 29:47
Speaker 7: We don't know that.
• 29:48
Speaker 14: But pushing it out till January fifteenth, which is what
• 29:51
Speaker 14: this is, it's basically the same cool off period to
• 29:53
Speaker 14: renegotiate it. So if you look at it, after all
• 29:57
Speaker 14: this noise, they were offered a fifty percent raise, they
• 29:59
Speaker 14: got sixty six percent rais. They also got some points
• 30:02
Speaker 14: on the containers. That's kind of a complicated thing to
• 30:04
Speaker 14: try to explain, but they're going to get a little
• 30:05
Speaker 14: extra money from that. This is pretty a standard negotiation
• 30:09
Speaker 14: of what you thought they would have get despite all
• 30:11
Speaker 14: the noise, and it's a pause that either they were
• 30:12
Speaker 14: going to do themselves, the government could have threatened to
• 30:15
Speaker 14: step in if this went too long, and they're just
• 30:17
Speaker 14: going to do this in January, so that's kind of
• 30:19
Speaker 14: where we're at on all that.
• 30:20
Speaker 4: So it's literally just a pause for the most part.
• 30:24
Speaker 4: Is there any likelihood of things going on behind the
• 30:25
Speaker 4: scenes where January fifteenth comes about and do they say, okay,
• 30:29
Speaker 4: we're all done or is there going to be a strike?
• 30:30
Speaker 14: And no matter what, well it could be again, like
• 30:33
Speaker 14: the railroad one two years ago, they put it off
• 30:36
Speaker 14: over the cool off period, and then those workers who
• 30:38
Speaker 14: really had an honest beef because that was over their
• 30:40
Speaker 14: scheduled time off which they didn't get any they ended
• 30:43
Speaker 14: up getting almost everything they wanted in the subsequent negotiations
• 30:45
Speaker 14: a couple months later. The idea is, you get rid
• 30:47
Speaker 14: of the media attention, you get the government pressure off,
• 30:50
Speaker 14: and people sit down and quit posing for the cameras,
• 30:52
Speaker 14: because what happened in the last three or four days
• 30:53
Speaker 14: was there was no negotiations. There was all media and
• 30:56
Speaker 14: pressure releases, and then they finally sat down yesterday and
• 30:59
Speaker 14: hammer this thing out. The idea is you get the
• 31:01
Speaker 14: media pressure off and people sit down and actually talk
• 31:03
Speaker 14: without posing and prawning, and you get the election out
• 31:06
Speaker 14: of the way, and you get Christmas out of the way,
• 31:07
Speaker 14: which is a big. Let remember all the in shipping
• 31:10
Speaker 14: and transportation. Christmas is right now because all the stuff
• 31:12
Speaker 14: you buy in November December, it's in route right now.
• 31:15
Speaker 14: So that's why this happens now and you get leveraged.
• 31:18
Speaker 14: So yeah, they should sit down and do it. Remember,
• 31:21
Speaker 14: but this will get suspect to this automation thing. For
• 31:23
Speaker 14: these old union heads like the Daggets, who's seventy eight,
• 31:26
Speaker 14: they see themselves as this is kind of the last
• 31:28
Speaker 14: stand because automation is going to come whether they like
• 31:31
Speaker 14: it or not at some point, and they're trying to
• 31:34
Speaker 14: get these last couple of deals, and then they got
• 31:35
Speaker 14: to start negotiating where does the unions fit into these
• 31:38
Speaker 14: new deals because like the Westport Coach, have already started
• 31:40
Speaker 14: to see a lot of drop down because of automation.
• 31:42
Speaker 14: The world wide ports are automated, even though it's only
• 31:45
Speaker 14: about four or five percent of the world wide ports.
• 31:47
Speaker 14: That's the future, and you don't want to be a
• 31:49
Speaker 14: typewriter and a computer agent. That's the dance that the
• 31:52
Speaker 14: unions are trying to do now is where they're trying
• 31:53
Speaker 14: to save jobs, take care of their people, but they
• 31:56
Speaker 14: also see the future coming. They're gonna have to do something,
• 31:58
Speaker 14: so we'll see what the negotiations do.
• 32:00
Speaker 4: Well. I have to say that here's the thing that
• 32:03
Speaker 4: was really driving me nuts, is the toilet paper pirates.
• 32:07
Speaker 4: Like as soon as somebody was hearing there's a disaster
• 32:10
Speaker 4: in one part of the country, a striking the other
• 32:11
Speaker 4: part of the country, does our hearts go out to
• 32:13
Speaker 4: anybody that might be in problems in Appalachia. No, let's
• 32:18
Speaker 4: just go to Sam's and buy all the toilet paper
• 32:20
  Speaker 4: for ourselves.
• 32:22
Speaker 14: Unless you have lived overseas, everybody listening to the sound
• 32:25
Speaker 14: of my voice right now, that's in the continental United States,
• 32:28
Speaker 14: you have probably never bought foreign made toilet paper. Ever,
• 32:32
Speaker 14: we are an exporter of toilet paper. Over ninety percent
• 32:34
Speaker 14: of all toilet paper is made in America, and most
• 32:36
Speaker 14: of the rest of that isn't the actual toilet paper.
• 32:38
Speaker 14: It's just you know, the place is up closer to Canada,
• 32:41
Speaker 14: they'll get in the pulp and they still make it here.
• 32:43
Speaker 14: We export toilet paper. We do not import toilet paper.
• 32:46
Speaker 14: There is never in the history of ever going to
• 32:48
Speaker 14: be of a situation where something shuts down the ports in
• 32:50
Speaker 14: the country or the transplation country. You can't get toilet paper.
• 32:53
Speaker 14: You don't get toilet paper because everybody runs a store
• 32:56
Speaker 14: and because of the point of sales system, which means
• 32:57
Speaker 14: they order it when you buy it, and it goes
• 32:59
Speaker 14: through the computer systems. It is silly people being media
• 33:03
Speaker 14: marks and believing panic online when it's not time to panic,
• 33:05
Speaker 14: because it's toilet paper shortages and that's it. And if
• 33:08
Speaker 14: you leave alone for a few days, so if you
• 33:09
Speaker 14: ran out and got a bunch of toilet paper, frankly,
• 33:13
Speaker 14: shame on you. Just calm down, It'll be okay. The
• 33:15
Speaker 14: number two is keep this stuff being stocked up for
• 33:17
Speaker 14: two or three weeks anyway, because even at the worst
• 33:20
Speaker 14: when they did this a couple of years ago during COVID,
• 33:22
Speaker 14: it took about ten days and everything sort of itself out.
• 33:24
Speaker 14: If you don't have two weeks of supplies in your
• 33:26
Speaker 14: house anyway, you're already doing it wrong. But no, don't
• 33:28
Speaker 14: buy this nonsense online.
• 33:30
Speaker 4: It was silly, yeah, fakes. I appreciate that because the
• 33:33
Speaker 4: first thing I saw when I saw that was like,
• 33:34
Speaker 4: oh boy, here we go. Yeah, And then I was like, well,
• 33:38
Speaker 4: was there any reason? And I did a little look
• 33:39
Speaker 4: and I was like, there's no reason to be doing
• 33:41
Speaker 4: this right now, and we're when we need resources in
• 33:44
Speaker 4: a part of the country that's in terrible shape right now.
• 33:48
Speaker 4: It's not a great idea to go and take all
• 33:50
Speaker 4: of the supplies from our box stores. That's just not
• 33:53
  Speaker 4: a great idea.
• 33:54
Speaker 14: And somebody online said, well, is this people buying the
• 33:58
Speaker 14: toilet paper and the paper town, because that's paper tels.
• 34:01
Speaker 14: People in West Virginia understand flu the cleanup of a flooding,
• 34:04
Speaker 14: cleaning supplies is one of the biggest things people need
• 34:07
Speaker 14: because you just have no idea what it takes to
• 34:08
Speaker 14: get mud out of a house like you need so
• 34:11
Speaker 14: much cleaning supplies. It kind of goes to show you, though,
• 34:14
Speaker 14: if you really want to make an issue out of it,
• 34:15
Speaker 14: put it like, well, where was the rush to bod
• 34:17
Speaker 14: these supplies to send the people that actually needed it
• 34:19
Speaker 14: instead of just panic buying. There's probably a lesson.
• 34:21
Speaker 4: There that's very true. And I appreciate you coming on
• 34:24
Speaker 4: this morning. It was funny that when this not ha
• 34:27
Speaker 4: haw funny, but when this story started coming up and
• 34:30
Speaker 4: I was like, well, who can I go to to
• 34:32
Speaker 4: explain to explain all of this stuff about the transportation,
• 34:36
Speaker 4: what it means for supply line and I was like, well,
• 34:40
Speaker 4: I guess I got a guy that knows how to
• 34:41
Speaker 4: talk about that stuff.
• 34:42
Speaker 14: Yeah, before Coop, let me be a second string radio
• 34:45
Speaker 14: fill in host. I actually did transportation for over fifteen years,
• 34:48
Speaker 14: booth trucking with the military. I've done overseas relief stuff.
• 34:52
Speaker 14: I've done this. That's actually my professional background for I
• 34:54
Speaker 14: got in the media. So it's fun to talk about.
• 34:56
Speaker 14: Even if I can't remember how to say taffed hardly,
• 34:58
Speaker 14: go look at it. I know that in the future
• 35:01
Speaker 14: we'll work on that. But that's why we're the JV squad.
• 35:03
Speaker 4: Hey, you do a little research on the Jones Act
• 35:06
Speaker 4: while you're at it.
• 35:06
Speaker 14: Right, can we get rid of that thing?
• 35:08
Speaker 4: That's another show? Right, Yeah, that's another show. That's all right,
• 35:13
  Speaker 4: I've had Scott. Let's let's come on here before we've
• 35:15
Speaker 4: actually talked about it.
• 35:16
Speaker 14: Yeah, I was with you that day.
• 35:17
Speaker 4: Oh that's right. I forgot. That's right, you were here
• 35:18
Speaker 4: with Scott. That's right, that's what you just talked about. Hey, Andrew,
• 35:21
Speaker 4: I appreciate your time, man, thanks so much for coming on,
• 35:23
Speaker 4: and U for breaking this down for us. I'm glad
• 35:27
Speaker 4: that it ends up being sort of a retrospective at
• 35:29
Speaker 4: this point instead of Hey, this is what we have
• 35:31
Speaker 4: facing us for the next few weeks or months. But
• 35:34
Speaker 4: you were right, that wrapped up, wrapped up before Friday. Yeah, nowhere.
• 35:37
Speaker 14: I'd rather be in WCCHS radio with you, my friend.

Speaker 16: the Clay Center were to one of the best concerts
• 40:01
Speaker 16: I've ever seen in Charleston, West Virginia. And maybe I'm
• 40:04
Speaker 16: biased because she's a friend, but man, Sierra Farrell put
• 40:07
Speaker 16: on one of the best concerts we've ever seen here
• 40:09
Speaker 16: Saturday night. I think those who were in attendance will agree.
• 40:12
Speaker 4: Now she is a spark plug, that's for sure.
• 40:14
Speaker 16: It was such a good show and she came by
• 40:15
Speaker 16: the glass afterward and I was able to sing a
• 40:17
Speaker 16: few songs with her that was really cool with not
• 40:20
Speaker 16: you know too often you get this sing with you know,
• 40:22
Speaker 16: one of your favorite singers. And then tonight, uh, you know,
• 40:25
Speaker 16: we have a there's a show at the Civic Center.
• 40:27
Speaker 16: Actually Dwight Yoakam has and the Mavericks uh or don't
• 40:31
Speaker 16: sleep on the opening act there. The Mavericks are opening
• 40:33
Speaker 16: up for Dwight Yoakam tonight. So just real quick, anybody
• 40:35
Speaker 16: who says there's nothing to do in Charleston, you're just
• 40:37
  Speaker 16: not looking hard.
• 40:38
  Speaker 4: Yeah, there's plenty of there's a lot.
• 40:40
Speaker 16: There's a lot to do, and Grace with some great
• 40:42
  Speaker 16: concerts lately.
• 40:43
Speaker 4: Absolutely, and just briefly on Sierra. We've had her here
• 40:45
Speaker 4: to perform a couple of times before she she broke
• 40:47
Speaker 4: out and and and made a big but just what
• 40:49
Speaker 4: a great talent. Somebody that shows that if you you know,
• 40:52
Speaker 4: work hard, uh and you're true to your roots, that
• 40:54
Speaker 4: you can make it. And I think that she's done
• 40:56
  Speaker 4: all those things.
• 40:56
Speaker 16: Yeah, and she writes all of her own.
• 40:58
Speaker 4: Stuff exactly exactly, and it's all and you tell it's all,
• 41:00
  Speaker 4: it's all homespun stuff. Okay, so there's a there's a
• 41:04
Speaker 4: I had to get I've been an administrative hell this week.
• 41:07
Speaker 4: There's a lot of stuff I've been dealing with, so
• 41:08
Speaker 4: I had to catch up on a lot of these stories.
• 41:09
Speaker 4: I saw uh mister Acres JB Acres here the other day,
• 41:13
Speaker 4: and I know JB, and so there's this is complicated,
• 41:18
Speaker 4: and this is a political thing, and also there's a
• 41:21
Speaker 4: legal thing involved. I'm going to briefly set the contact
• 41:24
Speaker 4: and I'm just going to let you respond to what
• 41:26
Speaker 4: JV said and I'll have a few things that i'll
• 41:28
Speaker 4: ask you about when what he said on his show,
• 41:30
Speaker 4: because he brought up a few things, and i'll have
• 41:31
Speaker 4: your response to. So the the general response was the demo,
• 41:36
Speaker 4: the Western Gian Democratic Party in which you're the chair of.
• 41:40
Speaker 4: And and so there was a press release about UH
• 41:43
Speaker 4: JB's UH involvement with this lawsuit that that UH internet
• 41:49
Speaker 4: podcaster Timpoole has against the Harris campaign for a tweet.
• 41:54
Speaker 4: I hate getting into things where we start talking about
• 41:56
Speaker 4: tweets and stuff like that, right, so I hate all
• 41:58
Speaker 4: I hate all this stuff. Anyway, immediately when we start
• 42:00
Speaker 4: talking about tweets on Twitter, a frivolous loss. I think
• 42:04
Speaker 4: all of this stuff is I just get sick of
• 42:07
Speaker 4: it when there's things to talk about that are really
• 42:08
Speaker 4: you know, so Tim Poles, this guy now, frankly, I
• 42:12
Speaker 4: knew who he was back in the early two thousands
• 42:14
Speaker 4: and he he and I I had actually interacted with
• 42:17
Speaker 4: him in the past on Fourth Amendment issues. This was
• 42:19
Speaker 4: back after nine eleven, where there was a there should
• 42:23
Speaker 4: still be concerned about the Patriot Act, national security letters,
• 42:26
Speaker 4: different things like that. That guy no longer exists. I
• 42:28
Speaker 4: don't know what happened. He's changed a lot. He has.
• 42:29
Speaker 16: He's an extreme right wing YouTuber.
• 42:33
Speaker 4: If you a little bit of his shows, and this
• 42:36
Speaker 4: ties in some with the Russian thing because he is
• 42:38
Speaker 4: under investigation with that. Did he have guests planet? I
• 42:40
Speaker 4: don't know, but the tweeting question.
• 42:42
Speaker 16: Wait a second, he's under investigation by the federal government
• 42:46
Speaker 16: because he took his company, took money, taken one hundred
• 42:49
Speaker 16: thousand dollars per episode to put out pro Russian anti
• 42:53
  Speaker 16: Ukrainian propaganda.
• 42:55
Speaker 4: And I mean in proofs in the pudding.
• 42:56
Speaker 16: If you go look at the look up some of
• 42:58
Speaker 16: his YouTube shows about Ukraine and it is straight out
• 43:01
Speaker 16: of the playbook from the Kremlin. That's not hyperbole, that
• 43:04
Speaker 16: is not and Dave was making light of that, but personally,
• 43:08
Speaker 16: I think it's a pretty big deal that one country
• 43:10
Speaker 16: invaded another and if the you know, if some folks
• 43:13
Speaker 16: in the Republican Party had their way, they're just going
• 43:16
Speaker 16: to hand the Ukraine over to Putin and he's not
• 43:19
Speaker 16: going to stop there, okay. And I think that's why
• 43:22
Speaker 16: you have folks like Dick Cheney even coming out on
• 43:24
Speaker 16: the side of Harris because of this scary foreign policy
• 43:28
Speaker 16: by some of the people in the Republican Party led
• 43:31
Speaker 16: led by by Donald Trump. It's it's it's not a joke.
• 43:34
Speaker 16: I mean they I don't know when the Party of
• 43:36
Speaker 16: Reagan became the Party of Putin, but it's scary.
• 43:40
Speaker 4: Go ahead. So in the in the transcripts, because a
• 43:43
Speaker 4: lot of these videos have been taken down, and because
• 43:45
Speaker 4: the legal stuff and anyway, So I went back and
• 43:47
Speaker 4: I traced Summit foul Pool's history. He changed different ways.
• 43:51
Speaker 4: He was part of the occupy movement, which I think
• 43:52
Speaker 4: is where I lost resolution at him att and then
• 43:54
Speaker 4: he got into like some anti corporation stuff and then
• 43:57
Speaker 4: eventually found himself as a Bernie supporter, and then in
• 44:01
Speaker 4: around twenty twenty he started changing his tune considerably.
• 44:03
Speaker 5: I'll tell you where you.
• 44:04
  Speaker 4: He's a grifter.
• 44:05
Speaker 16: He's taking money, he's under investigation, taking one hundred the podcasts,
• 44:10
Speaker 16: and that's where the money is right. And if you
• 44:11
Speaker 16: look at the guests that he's had on his show recently,
• 44:15
Speaker 16: whether it's u Alex Jones who actually lost a defamation case,
• 44:21
Speaker 16: a real defamation case, because he was putting stuff out
• 44:24
Speaker 16: there about the horrible tragedy where grade schoolers were gunned
• 44:27
Speaker 16: down at Sandy Hook, calling that Now could you imagine,
• 44:31
Speaker 16: well the parents having to listen to that crap? All right,
• 44:34
Speaker 16: you lost your your first or second grader, and you
• 44:37
Speaker 16: hear this guy going on TV regularly saying that your
• 44:40
Speaker 16: child was a crisis actor.
• 44:42
  Speaker 4: That's disgusting.
• 44:42
  Speaker 16: That's a real defamation case right there. But he's a
• 44:45
Speaker 16: regular on Tim Poole's show. Okay, Nick Fuentes, who's a
• 44:49
Speaker 16: white supremacist's holocaust denier, he's a regular on Tim Plein.
• 44:55
Speaker 16: But on the show in question, you can find on
• 44:57
Speaker 16: the show in question was Laura Lumer, Right, and go ahead.
• 45:01
Speaker 4: Okay, so Lumer, who if you don't know who she
• 45:04
Speaker 4: has looked her up. I'm not getting into her history
• 45:06
Speaker 4: or anything, but she said on his show that the
• 45:10
Speaker 4: people prosecuting the Democrats prosecuting the January sixth insurrectionists are treasonists,
• 45:16
Speaker 4: and that treasonists should be put to death. And then
• 45:21
Speaker 4: the Harris tweet that they came out included that video
• 45:24
Speaker 4: clip and talked about how Pool was an operative of
• 45:27
Speaker 4: Donald Trump. I don't care about the Harris tweet necessarily
• 45:31
Speaker 4: from the standpoint of whatever they said. They can infer
• 45:33
  Speaker 4: whatever they I'm not a lawyer. I don't really care
• 45:35
Speaker 4: about that. The only thing that I found, and I
• 45:38
Speaker 4: had to go digging through transcripts last night. There was
• 45:41
Speaker 4: a point after that where he initially pushed back on
• 45:43
Speaker 4: what Lumer said. He did say it was on Rumble,
• 45:46
Speaker 4: not YouTube, because why is it not on YouTube? It's
• 45:49
Speaker 4: against their policy. So they took it down.
• 45:50
Speaker 16: Tim Poole took it down because it would destroy his
• 45:52
Speaker 16: case because later in the show he says, I agree
• 45:56
Speaker 16: with what she said and they should be put to death.
• 45:59
Speaker 5: So this is this is where you know what real.
• 46:01
Speaker 16: Quick though, nobody is saying he doesn't have a right
• 46:04
Speaker 16: to say whatever he wants. Nobody is saying he doesn't
• 46:06
Speaker 16: have a right to have nazis like Nick Fuente's or
• 46:09
Speaker 16: nut jobs like Alex Jones. Nobody is saying that this
• 46:12
Speaker 16: is not a First Amendment issue. In fact, he's the
• 46:15
Speaker 16: plaintiff in a frivolous defamation case. Okay, he's suing the
• 46:21
Speaker 16: vice president's campaign for something they tweeted. Now to sue somebody,
• 46:25
Speaker 16: I mean to sue somebody over a tweet, especially if
• 46:28
Speaker 16: you're a Trump supporter. If you're to sue somebody over
• 46:30
Speaker 16: a tweet during a campaign, it is ridiculous. Now, you know,
• 46:34
Speaker 16: I support the Seventh Amendment one hundred percent. Okay, I
• 46:37
Speaker 16: support the First Amendment hundred percent, but I also support
• 46:39
Speaker 16: the Seventh Amendment on hundred percent. I believe everybody has
• 46:41
Speaker 16: a right to a jury trial. He has a right
• 46:43
Speaker 16: to fare representation. But this type of case gives trial
• 46:47
Speaker 16: lawyers a bad name. And this is the epitome of
• 46:50
Speaker 16: a frivolous case. This is going to get laughed out
• 46:52
Speaker 16: of court. And you know, and of course he has
• 46:55
Speaker 16: a right to representation, but Delegate Acres had a right
• 46:58
Speaker 16: not to take this type of case. This case makes
• 47:00
Speaker 16: trial lawyers look bad and he knows it, and every
• 47:03
Speaker 16: any member of the legislature, even those who are appointed
• 47:06
Speaker 16: and not elected, you should understand that.
• 47:08
Speaker 4: So that's where that's kind of where this lies. And
• 47:11
Speaker 4: we we have a couple of minutes here before we
• 47:12
Speaker 4: have to cut Mike loosen. I don't want to cut
• 47:14
Speaker 4: you short. So it all comes into this, Uh. If
• 47:19
Speaker 4: Temple recasts his opinion that he that he thought the
• 47:23
Speaker 4: Democrats were traders are not. Look, that is for the
• 47:26
Speaker 4: course to decide on how all of that plays out.
• 47:28
Speaker 4: When JB was on the show, he also we have
• 47:30
Speaker 4: how long is this break coming up? Matt? Is it
• 47:32
Speaker 4: two minutes? Okay, so we have about we have about
• 47:35
Speaker 4: two minutes here, Mike, and then we'll have to.
• 47:39
Speaker 16: I stand by every word of our press release.
• 47:42
Speaker 4: Gosh, what I wanted to ask you about is JB
• 47:44
Speaker 4: did so you've kind of explained yourself as far as
• 47:47
Speaker 4: like he said that, hey, this is just a negative
• 47:49
Speaker 4: attack on me, and you you just now said, hey,
• 47:51
Speaker 4: I think that it's a bad look, not necessarily that
• 47:54
Speaker 4: Temple doesn't deserve representation. Is that is that kind of
• 47:57
Speaker 4: where you come down to.
• 47:58
Speaker 16: Take the case. He knows this is of friples, So
• 48:00
Speaker 16: I mean there's one of two things. Okay, He's either
• 48:03
Speaker 16: taking it for political purposes, which I'm not exactly sure
• 48:07
Speaker 16: why he would because if you look at his district
• 48:09
Speaker 16: it's not exactly Trump Lands.
• 48:11
Speaker 4: Can also a good.
• 48:12
Speaker 16: Part of Kanos City and in large part of South
• 48:16
Speaker 16: Hills is not exactly Trump Country. It's a light blue districts.
• 48:19
Speaker 16: I don't know how it would help him politically, and
• 48:21
Speaker 16: only so the other explanation, he's doing it for the money. Now,
• 48:25
Speaker 16: remember where Temple has been getting his money from, and
• 48:28
Speaker 16: he's even admitted to that. Temple is admitted to taking
• 48:30
Speaker 16: money from the Russians one hundred thousand dollars an episode,
• 48:33
Speaker 16: So that's where he took his money from. So that
• 48:35
Speaker 16: seems to me the only possible motivation for taking this
• 48:39
Speaker 16: ridiculous case. It is going to get laughed out of court.
• 48:42
Speaker 4: Uh, it's it's all the whole things. I hate the
• 48:46
Speaker 4: way that this whole influence campaign works, the way that podcasters,
• 48:50
Speaker 4: everybody that thinks that they're professionals getting duped into doing
• 48:54
  Speaker 4: ridiculous things.
• 48:55
  Speaker 16: I mean, he's a Temple's a grift or he had
• 48:57
Speaker 16: his hand out, he got paid by Russians he's even
• 48:59
Speaker 16: admitted to take in the money. He's saying he got
• 49:01
Speaker 16: duped by the Row. He took one hundred thousand dollars
• 49:03
Speaker 16: per episode to put out dangerous propaganda making it look
• 49:07
Speaker 16: like Ukraine as the aggressor in a war when we
• 49:10
Speaker 16: all know they were invaded by Putin. They were invaded
• 49:13
Speaker 16: by Russia. And that's what makes this thing so serious
• 49:16
Speaker 16: and so and I'll tell you what I'll put. I
• 49:18
Speaker 16: don't know if I'm allowed to do this, I'd put
• 49:19
Speaker 16: money on it. This case is going nowhere right And
• 49:22
Speaker 16: if I've said anything untrue, if anyone's listening out there,
• 49:24
Speaker 16: sue me for defamation. Bring it.
• 49:27
Speaker 4: It's Mike Pushkin, the chair of the Westricia Democratic Party,
• 49:30
Speaker 4: a delegate here in Kanawk County. We need to take
• 49:32
Speaker 4: a break. I promised Mike. I give him as much
• 49:34
Speaker 4: time as I could. So we need to take a
• 49:35
Speaker 4: break and pay the bills. We'll be back after this.
• 49:37
Speaker 4: You're listening to five Elive on WHS brought to.

Speaker 4: us as we wrap up today. This is a nice
• 51:04
Speaker 4: music to wrap up too, not too bad, but not
• 51:06
Speaker 4: as great as the concert that's going to be happening
• 51:08
Speaker 4: at the Cific Center tonight.
• 51:09
Speaker 16: I hope to see everybody there, and I'm just really,

Speaker 16: it's Friday night. Go enjoy yourself, forget about politics for night.
• 51:14
Speaker 16: Go see Dwight Yoakam and the Mavericks. Show up early.
• 51:17
Speaker 4: Don't miss the Mavericks. They're great. Dwight Yoakam. I'm sad
• 51:20
Speaker 4: I couldn't make it to this show because he is
• 51:22
Speaker 4: a great musician, just a fantastic musician, and that's going
• 51:25
Speaker 4: to be a fantastic I've seen him live, see I
• 51:28
Speaker 4: haven't seen him perform live in probably ten years or so.
• 51:30
Speaker 4: I think I saw him on Austin City Limits not
• 51:32
Speaker 4: long ago, and it was an amazing show. Then I
• 51:34
Speaker 4: would have liked to have gone to tonight show. You
• 51:36
Speaker 4: think I know somebody right? I don't think it's sold out,
• 51:39
Speaker 4: No it's not. But I have a thing to do
• 51:41
Speaker 4: with my daughter, so that's that's all right, Mike, I
• 51:43
Speaker 4: appreciate you coming on. Thanks you for having me on,
• 51:44
Speaker 4: no problem. That's my pushkin coming in to join us
