Transcript
- 0:00Sean McAllister: Welcome to Vegas Revealed episode 60.
- 0:03Sean McAllister: It was one year ago this week that Las Vegas and the world closed for business.
- 0:09Dayna Roselli: It was March 18th at midnight for us.
- 0:12Dayna Roselli: We've been listening to some of our old podcasts around that time period.
- 0:16Dayna Roselli: We're going to share some highlights with you.
- 0:18Dayna Roselli: Boy, we didn't think it was going to be a year of this.
- 0:20Sean McAllister: Yeah, we reflect on what was and how far we've come.
- 0:25Dayna Roselli: Plus, we asked you on Twitter, are you ready to go back to concerts and festivals?
- 0:30Dayna Roselli: A lot of them are scheduled out for portions of 2021.
- 0:34Dayna Roselli: We have your results coming up on Vegas Revealed.
- 0:50Dayna Roselli: Welcome to Vegas Revealed.
- 0:52Dayna Roselli: It is March 2021.
- 0:55Dayna Roselli: I'm Dana Roselli.
- 0:56Sean McAllister: And I'm Sean McAllister.
- 0:58Sean McAllister: And boy, what a difference March 2021 is from March 2020.
- 1:05Sean McAllister: At that point, we had no idea what we were getting into and what was going to lie ahead for us, Dana.
- 1:14Dayna Roselli: No, and we've been listening to some old podcasts and right around that period.
- 1:18Dayna Roselli: And the one that really struck us the most was the podcast that ran about this time last year.
- 1:25Dayna Roselli: And it was kind of like things were starting to happen, and things were starting to, you know, eliminate fans and and and scale back.
- 1:35Dayna Roselli: But I don't think from the way that we sound that we thought it was gonna last this long.
- 1:39Sean McAllister: No, not at all.
- 1:40Sean McAllister: Because uh Tom Hanks had just come down with coronavirus.
- 1:45Sean McAllister: Sports leagues were starting to, as you mentioned, eliminate fans and then stop playing games.
- 1:52Sean McAllister: And uh well, just take a listen to how we were reacting to all that stuff at the time.
- 2:00Sean McAllister: Again, March 2020.
- 2:03Dayna Roselli: Hello everyone.
- 2:04Dayna Roselli: It's time for Vegas Reveal.
- 2:05Sean McAllister: I'm Dana Roselli.
- 2:06Sean McAllister: And I'm Sean McAllister.
- 2:08Sean McAllister: I have leathered up with soap suds and hand sanitizer.
- 2:12Sean McAllister: So, Dana, I'm good to go.
- 2:14Dayna Roselli: I'm so glad to hear that.
- 2:15Dayna Roselli: We're here at the Palazzo Broadcast Studio at Legossi Stadium, and yeah, we've got uh little sanitizer right outside the door, so it's great.
- 2:22Dayna Roselli: And you know what, Sean?
- 2:24Dayna Roselli: We parked here for free.
- 2:25Sean McAllister: I know.
- 2:25Sean McAllister: That's the that's the best part, isn't it?
- 2:27Sean McAllister: We've got all our bases covered, free parking and hand sanitizer within reach.
- 2:31Dayna Roselli: I know, it's amazing.
- 2:32Dayna Roselli: And the great stuff here at Legossi, too.
- 2:34Dayna Roselli: Listen, we're trying to keep our spirits up.
- 2:36Dayna Roselli: Uh, there's been so much talk, and obviously, everyone's focused on the coronavirus.
- 2:41Dayna Roselli: And here in Las Vegas, um, you know, we have as a part of our common economy, Taurus, and that's pretty much you know what we live on and what we thrive on.
- 2:50Dayna Roselli: And we have a lot of conferences too, and thousands and thousands of people come in for conferences literally every week, and a lot of them have been canceled, and it's getting a little nerve-wracking.
- 3:00Sean McAllister: Yeah, and I know that it was big news when Tom Hanks and his wife came down and tested positive for coronavirus, and that uh showed that this it's reaching Hollywood too, and a big Hollywood event.
- 3:12Sean McAllister: CinemaCon is a convention that's held here in Las Vegas every year.
- 3:16Sean McAllister: It's actually a convention for movie theater owners, right?
- 3:20Sean McAllister: But movie studios bring out stars, they bring out a lot of footage for upcoming blockbusters, and that whole thing has been canceled because they have vendors from around the world that come in for it and they just can't travel here.
- 3:34Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and the same with the National Association of Broadcasters conference that was gonna be held in mid-April as well.
- 3:39Dayna Roselli: Now we're hearing that they're gonna scale back on the NFL draft that's expected to be here too.
- 3:44Dayna Roselli: Uh the NBA has suspended the season, the NHL just announced um they're gonna take a halt, right?
- 3:51Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and our Golden Knights are in uh different city right now, but they won't our Golden Knights are doing so good.
- 3:57Sean McAllister: I know, they've been on a roll.
- 3:59Sean McAllister: We've been wanting them, they're in playoff contention, and this is um it's obviously not a good time for for anybody to be dealing with this, but um it is the everything from sports to uh food and beverage to the hotel industry and conventions is being affected here in Las Vegas.
- 4:18Dayna Roselli: And we were at the Palazzo Broadcast Studio at Legacy Stadium back then, and just to clarify, that is now shut down for good.
- 4:28Sean McAllister: Yeah, little did we know that that was going to be our very last time inside of that broadcast studio.
- 4:37Sean McAllister: And uh who would have even thought that the restaurant would no longer be over there at the Palazzo.
- 4:44Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 4:45Dayna Roselli: I remember after we recorded the podcast, we were staring at the screens and watching some basketball games and coverage of news and the ESPN was up, some of the wait staff was there, and they just looked so sad.
- 4:59Dayna Roselli: And they were like, Well, that's March Madness, because you know, usually it's packed in here and we're gonna have such a slow season.
- 5:06Dayna Roselli: But little did they know they were gonna shut down and never reopen.
- 5:09Sean McAllister: Man, and you know, that was uh obviously a sign of uh really terrible things to come for for the country, for the world, the restaurant industry incredibly hard hit over the last year.
- 5:25Sean McAllister: And you know, Legacy Stadium is indicative of so many hundreds of thousands of restaurants here in the US alone that had to shut down and aren't able to reopen.
- 5:37Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 5:38Dayna Roselli: And in when that podcast opened that we had just played, you know, we were thought it was such a luxury to have san you know hand sanitizer right close by.
- 5:46Dayna Roselli: Now it's everywhere, you know, every corner that we turn, everything that we do.
- 5:50Dayna Roselli: So it was so interesting to hear us act like it was this big luxury.
- 5:54Sean McAllister: Well, and it and at that point, we didn't know that hand sanitizer was going to become like liquid gold.
- 6:01Sean McAllister: You know, this was also the point when all that panic buying was was starting.
- 6:05Sean McAllister: You couldn't order hand sanitizer.
- 6:08Sean McAllister: You well, you couldn't find it at the store.
- 6:10Sean McAllister: No, and you couldn't order it online because it was all out of stock.
- 6:14Sean McAllister: And I know we would get so excited when we would find the little bot uh bottles of sanitizer from Bath and Body Works.
- 6:21Dayna Roselli: I know, and we would actually, and this was the period where toilet paper was out, right?
- 6:25Dayna Roselli: You know, nobody could find it.
- 6:26Dayna Roselli: They were, you know, hoarding the Costco and all that kind of thing.
- 6:31Dayna Roselli: So um, two guests that we had on that show, uh, one was John Kilb, a friend of mine from college who was in to take part and watch all the March Madness, sit in the sports book, go to the games and watch them.
- 6:42Dayna Roselli: Um, so we talked to him.
- 6:44Dayna Roselli: We also talked to a financial advisor, Steve Buden, about the economy and how he thought things were gonna go.
- 6:51Dayna Roselli: So we wanted to share those interviews with you as well.
- 6:54Sean McAllister: Let's start with Steve Buden, the financial expert.
- 6:57Sean McAllister: The question was posed to him: what impact do you think Las Vegas is going to face from coronavirus?
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, in fact, uh just doing some homework last night uh for another interview I had given, this foreign travel ban from Europe is pretty serious.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: You know, for the last 10 years, Vegas has been promoting itself to try to increase its foreign business.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: And on a dollar per dollar basis, the foreign visitor tends to spend more money than the domestic visitor.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: So if we lose access to those foreign visitors, it could really have a devastating effect on the Vegas economy.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: And I think the time to sugarcoat it has passed.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Like we really need to come together and figure out a way to mitigate and minimize the damage it's going to have here.
- 7:41Sean McAllister: So obviously, we're we're not done with the ups and downs that we're going to see with this.
- 7:48Sean McAllister: What is your advice to people on how to weather this?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's two things.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Number one, you should have an account balanced effectively before crises hit.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: We had the financial crisis, we've had SARS, we've had Ebola, we've had many things over the years that have or should have given us warning to not get too greedy or excess uh in terms of your risk level.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: And it's just another reminder.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: So, number one, you should have an account, and I I know I'm biased, but you should have some professional assistance helping you design accounts that could help you sleep at night.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: And number two, realize you're in it for the long haul.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Uh dealing with Vegas locally, you know, we're the entertainment capital of the world.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Humans can only be quarantined for so long.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: There will come a point, I don't know if it's next week, next month, six months from now, where people will want to go back out.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: And that's where I think as a city we need to get that message out that we still are open for business.
- 8:48Dayna Roselli: Aaron Powell But what about these conferences canceling?
- 8:50Dayna Roselli: I mean, it's thousands and thousands of people that come to our city.
- 8:52Dayna Roselli: Like, how do you recover from that?
- 8:54Dayna Roselli: Because they're not it doesn't sound like you can really just change the date, you know.
- 8:57Dayna Roselli: People had plans.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, and th therein lies the issue.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: We are going to take a financial hit.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: You know, these conferences, in economic terms, they're called fungible items.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: So if you miss a conference today, Thursday through Sunday, you're not going to reschedule that conference.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: The probability is that, right?
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: You may come back next year.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: But those four days are lost.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: You know, airline seats, when that plane takes off, those seats are lost.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: The meals in this restaurant, those are lost.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: You can't come back and eat twice, right?
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: So those losses are going to be realized and very difficult to make up for.
- 9:31Dayna Roselli: So you could tell Steve Buden was definitely concerned about the economic situation and uh you know what was going to happen or what could happen at that time.
- 9:41Dayna Roselli: But uh, I don't think he he thought we would see the results of where we are today.
- 9:46Sean McAllister: Yeah, I I mean with so man with all the resorts shutting down for months, I mean, nobody could have predicted that that was going to happen.
- 9:56Dayna Roselli: And then I got a message from my friend John Kilb from college who wrote me just last week saying, I'm coming in for March Madness, even though it's kind of a scaled-down version this year.
- 10:06Dayna Roselli: Um I usually do it every year, and I'm coming anyway, and I thought, oh my gosh, he was who we interviewed right before the shutdown.
- 10:15Dayna Roselli: He was in town watching March Madness.
- 10:17Dayna Roselli: He goes to all the games, he loves basketball, and we interviewed him.
- 10:21Dayna Roselli: And it's interesting our take on on what was going on at that time, too, because that was just when they announced that was it, the basketball games wouldn't have fans, or they were gonna end the tournament.
- 10:34Sean McAllister: Well, it was uh there was one day during the tournament, it was the day before we interviewed John, when uh fans at halftime were made to leave the arena because the World Health Organization uh declared coronavirus as a pandemic.
- 10:53Sean McAllister: The games were going to continue, but then as we spoke with John Kilb, we got the news the games were off too.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: It's a pleasure to join you because now I have nothing to do for three days.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm here till Sunday with no games to watch.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Um they refunded my ticket prices.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, it's it's disappointing.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Like I was um I enjoyed the first uh I got here last Sunday.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Um was here Monday and Tuesday, I saw Gonzaga play, um, and they at least got to the conclusion of their tournament, and then Wednesday the Pac-12 started, and I went all day yesterday and saw the games, but you know, word started getting out in the afternoon they were gonna close the rest of the tournament to the fans at first, just play in an empty T-Mobile arena, and then by the end of the day, they they decided early this morning they decided just to cancel the rest of the games.
- 11:44Sean McAllister: So you've obviously been to Las Vegas many times.
- 11:48Sean McAllister: How for people who are listening from out of town and even for people who live here, how has this trip differed from the other trips that you've been on?
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Well, it's definitely less busy.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Now it's been the middle of the week, so I you know, usually things ramp up towards the weekend, but with the cancellation of these games all over the country, the sports books are empty.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: I was just talking.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: I I I had a bunch of bets made today.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: I had to take them back to the sports book because everything was canceled, and they refunded my money, you know, they refunded my money too.
- 12:23Dayna Roselli: Never thought of that.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: But the guy, you know, they're canceling everything, and the guys are like, we're gonna have no work for the next month.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Like they're gonna the the sportsbook staffs are gonna, you know, the odds makers are not gonna have much to do there.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: So far, they're gonna continue some things like the the PGA tour is gonna play without fans, NASCAR's gonna race without fans.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: So you can still bet that stuff if if that's your thing, but I gotta imagine.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, I had friends that are scheduled to come next weekend.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I'd have to think that that first weekend of March Madness, aside from the Super Bowl, has to be annually the second biggest sports betting weekend that Las Vegas has.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: And so um, you know, it's a shame to see that that that's gonna dissipate and and not exist at the level it did in the past.
- 13:09Sean McAllister: Oh, how naive to think that things were gonna be tough for just a month.
- 13:14Dayna Roselli: I know, right?
- 13:15Dayna Roselli: We were like, oh my gosh, it could be a whole month of this, but wow, life changing for literally, I think, everyone across the globe.
- 13:22Dayna Roselli: So unbelievable uh what has happened in the last year.
- 13:27Dayna Roselli: And now we sit here in March of 2021, hopeful that things are gonna start to get back to somewhat of a normal situation here in Las Vegas.
- 13:38Dayna Roselli: But we're still waiting really for all the conventions to come back.
- 13:41Sean McAllister: Yeah, and uh to all of you who uh found Vegas Revealed during the the pandemic, during the shutdown, and were turning to us for uh insights on uh what was happening on the ground here in Las Vegas and hearing different perspectives from uh people throughout uh the Las Vegas community.
- 14:01Sean McAllister: We thank you for for listening.
- 14:04Sean McAllister: And the good news is that it looks like now we'll be able to get back to entertainment and back to some semblance of what we know as Las Vegas.
- 14:15Dayna Roselli: And we apologize for all those podcasts with the horrible no-microphone audio that we recorded over.
- 14:21Dayna Roselli: We were listening to some of those all embarrassed, and we go, wait, what happened?
- 14:24Dayna Roselli: When was there a switch?
- 14:25Dayna Roselli: I was like, that was when we decided to buy microphones for our house.
- 14:28Dayna Roselli: Our houses, your place and my place, because we knew we weren't gonna be able to be together and then we should probably, you know, have some good audio quality.
- 14:36Dayna Roselli: We were used to going into a studio, right?
- 14:38Dayna Roselli: We went to that Best Buy and we picked, we popped our trunk and and did the whole uh you know.
- 14:43Sean McAllister: That was the first experience with contactless buying.
- 14:46Dayna Roselli: Yes.
- 14:47Dayna Roselli: Weird, right?
- 14:48Dayna Roselli: And now these microphones are a part of our life.
- 14:51Sean McAllister: Man.
- 14:51Dayna Roselli: Um, hey, some quick, maybe some rapid fire things going on.
- 14:55Dayna Roselli: Something you just mentioned, and this is a good follow-up to last week was the Golden Knights have now upped the amount of fans in T-Mobile Arena, right?
- 15:03Dayna Roselli: That was 15%?
- 15:04Sean McAllister: It was fifteen percent uh last episode this week.
- 15:08Sean McAllister: We just got the news that starting on Monday, March 15th, the Golden Knights are allowed to have 20% fan capacity inside T-Mobile Arena.
- 15:20Sean McAllister: So uh we originally uh they were originally allowed to start having fans at 15% capacity, which was about 2,500 fans.
- 15:29Sean McAllister: Now that number is upped to, I believe, just over 3,500 fans.
- 15:35Sean McAllister: So new blocks of tickets have gone on sale for the rest of the games in March.
- 15:39Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that's really good news.
- 15:41Dayna Roselli: And then you know, March 15th is when everything will go to 50% capacity across the board.
- 15:46Dayna Roselli: Our restaurants, our resorts, our casinos.
- 15:48Dayna Roselli: Most all the casinos are open now 24-7.
- 15:52Dayna Roselli: I know the Palazzo was opening its rooms, I believe, this week, uh March 11th, possibly.
- 15:58Dayna Roselli: So last week, because this podcast is out after we're recording this.
- 16:02Dayna Roselli: Um, so that's good news.
- 16:03Dayna Roselli: Also, resorts roll announcing a lounge, uh new lounge.
- 16:07Dayna Roselli: Also, their nightclub name, which is exciting.
- 16:09Dayna Roselli: We got news that the Jabberwalkies are gonna return to the stage at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
- 16:15Dayna Roselli: They started on March 11th, so they're doing that big space instead of a small theater.
- 16:19Sean McAllister: Yeah, so you can go and see the Jabbawockies now over at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
- 16:24Sean McAllister: Those shows are Monday through Thursday at 7 p.m., Fridays, Saturdays at 7 and 9.30.
- 16:32Sean McAllister: So more entertainment is back.
- 16:34Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and March Madness will kick off, and that's the basketball we've just been talking about.
- 16:37Dayna Roselli: So the sports books will be a little busier than normal as well, because they'll be able to be at 50%.
- 16:43Dayna Roselli: So all in all, it seems like things are going really well.
- 16:46Dayna Roselli: You and I have a shoot uh this Saturday at 1923, which is a cool kind of uh retroish vibe, speakeasy right at Mandalay Bay, and so we're gonna check that out.
- 16:58Dayna Roselli: We're shooting some sizzle reels for them.
- 17:00Dayna Roselli: We're excited about that.
- 17:01Sean McAllister: And they have uh entertainment coming back to that venue.
- 17:05Sean McAllister: The venue's been open as like kind of a lounge, but uh the entertainment is coming back there, and really across the board, uh entertainment is coming back, Las Vegas is coming back, the resorts are operating at uh 24-7, as we'd mentioned a couple weeks ago, that that was going to start.
- 17:24Sean McAllister: That's now happening.
- 17:26Sean McAllister: Um so now we just need vaccinated visitors to come and join us here in Las Vegas.
- 17:33Dayna Roselli: I know, and you and I scheduled our second dose.
- 17:35Dayna Roselli: We're all set to go um in a couple weeks, so uh we'll let you know how that goes, everyone.
- 17:41Sean McAllister: And and hopefully the rest of the country can start to ramp up and and go at the speed that that uh Las Vegas and Nevada is proceeding at with with vaccinations because it really has rolled out pretty quickly here.
- 17:55Dayna Roselli: It has, and I see we're getting a bunch of that at uh Johnson and Johnson vaccine available.
- 17:59Dayna Roselli: I think I saw one of our newscasters get one of the Johnson and Johnson doses as well.
- 18:04Dayna Roselli: And it's just a it's a that's a one-dose, right?
- 18:06Dayna Roselli: Yeah, single dose.
- 18:07Dayna Roselli: Um hey, listen, we put a question out on Twitter and we love to do this now because we love how you all chime in, and so we want to read some of the responses.
- 18:15Dayna Roselli: Our question this week was how do you feel about returning to festivals this year?
- 18:19Dayna Roselli: Is this something that you are comfortable doing?
- 18:22Dayna Roselli: Let us know because there have been a lot of concert and festival announcements.
- 18:26Dayna Roselli: Not all of them are happening tomorrow, but they're end of summer, fall, that kind of time period, right?
- 18:32Sean McAllister: Yeah, so residency shows are d as it stands, supposed to start up again here in Las Vegas uh in summertime, June, July, and then it's more toward fall when the festivals are going to be taking place.
- 18:50Sean McAllister: And I mean, tickets have gone on sale, music lineups have gone out, but now the big question and apparently based on early ticket sales, the question is will fans uh feel comfortable going?
- 19:03Sean McAllister: And I mean I I know a lot of the early tickets have sold out.
- 19:06Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 19:07Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 19:07Dayna Roselli: I mean it's I don't want to say surprising, 'cause I know people are like, well, might as well get them because we don't know where things are gonna stand then.
- 19:13Dayna Roselli: Maybe we'll be in a completely comfortable place and we have our tickets.
- 19:17Dayna Roselli: Cause I know a lot of these places have refund policies.
- 19:21Dayna Roselli: I think you might lose a little bit, but you know, you don't lose your whole tick ticket costs and all that.
- 19:26Dayna Roselli: But anyway, we have Richard uh that chimed in.
- 19:28Dayna Roselli: I believe Richard is in Ireland, I want to say.
- 19:33Dayna Roselli: Oh no, I'm gonna click on it because I don't know, I want to make sure.
- 19:35Dayna Roselli: Nope, he's in Australia.
- 19:36Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 19:37Dayna Roselli: Richard in Australia, one of our listeners, he says, if I was in Vegas or in America, I wouldn't be comfortable with going unless there was zero community infections for 14 days.
- 19:47Dayna Roselli: Interesting, Richard.
- 19:49Dayna Roselli: Joseph Salvatore wrote us and said, No problem at all.
- 19:52Dayna Roselli: If better hygiene and cleanliness are two of the long-term positive results of this pandemic, well, makes me feel a lot more comfortable.
- 19:59Sean McAllister: I would agree with that.
- 20:00Sean McAllister: And I think overall, Las Vegas has done a really good job of implementing some things to make sure that cleanliness is top of mind.
- 20:07Sean McAllister: Uh going back to the responses, Kevin says, yes, I'm in.
- 20:11Sean McAllister: Open back up.
- 20:12Sean McAllister: Uh Christy says that I'm going to the Life is Beautiful festival, which is happening here in Las Vegas in September.
- 20:19Sean McAllister: I am comfortable.
- 20:21Sean McAllister: I will be watching the Electric Daisy Carnival closely to see how they pull off their first major festival in Vegas, as well as uh what happens in the days after the festival to see if there are any issues with that.
- 20:36Sean McAllister: Um they say Life is Beautiful is non-refundable.
- 20:40Sean McAllister: Oh and it comes with a COVID disclaimer.
- 20:44Dayna Roselli: Really?
- 20:45Dayna Roselli: Non-refundable?
- 20:46Sean McAllister: That's interesting.
- 20:47Dayna Roselli: I don't know about that.
- 20:48Dayna Roselli: All right, well, John Nichols says, but I rather Oh, he starts off.
- 20:52Dayna Roselli: Sorry, I got he I got a two-parter for this is a double.
- 20:55Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 20:55Dayna Roselli: He says he's super excited and ready to get back out there, but I'd rather doubt I'd go to a concert or other event if a mask was mandated.
- 21:04Dayna Roselli: It would seriously distract me from the event.
- 21:06Dayna Roselli: So he's gonna wait until masks are off.
- 21:09Sean McAllister: And then there's Velvet Rebel Music who says maybe in the fall, but I'd kind of prefer to wait until 2022 for larger venues to have the proper air filtration, the non-smoking, all that stuff put into effect.
- 21:23Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and then they they keep coming up.
- 21:25Dayna Roselli: Someone else wrote, Great, and yes, let's do it.
- 21:27Dayna Roselli: That's from Don't Call Me Mr.
- 21:28Dayna Roselli: P.
- 21:29Dayna Roselli: Alright, we won't call you that.
- 21:30Dayna Roselli: And then don't call him Mr.
- 21:32Dayna Roselli: P.
- 21:34Dayna Roselli: And then we just got a bunch of other responses on other Twitters.
- 21:37Dayna Roselli: We'll just run through these.
- 21:38Dayna Roselli: This year, no, even once I'm vaccinated, next year, definitely, from Laura.
- 21:42Dayna Roselli: And then also Larry saying I don't see myself being ready for festivals or large crowds in general this year.
- 21:47Dayna Roselli: A couple of our listeners from England say they're ready to get out there.
- 21:52Dayna Roselli: Can't wait to go to any gig of any kind.
- 21:53Dayna Roselli: And then Julie says, I want to get out back out in the audience ASAP.
- 21:57Sean McAllister: But then there is Kimmy who has a really interesting.
- 22:00Sean McAllister: Take she says, No, not ready yet.
- 22:02Sean McAllister: A year of isolation makes a large crowd very distressing to think about.
- 22:08Sean McAllister: And I've had that same thought myself.
- 22:11Sean McAllister: Like after a year of essentially, I mean being home almost all day every day, it it really is kind of weird to think about going back out and doing things.
- 22:25Sean McAllister: I mean, I'm excited to get to the point where we're able to do that, but that's like excitement in my mind.
- 22:32Sean McAllister: I think physically doing it might be a little different.
- 22:36Sean McAllister: Although I did go to the hockey game and that was fine.
- 22:38Sean McAllister: But it wasn't.
- 22:40Dayna Roselli: No, that was spread out.
- 22:42Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 22:42Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I'm all for sitting in a theater, uh, me and you know, whoever's next to me and a diet coke and relaxing and watching a great show.
- 22:50Dayna Roselli: But I don't know about like, you know, crowd riding at a concert or what do you call it?
- 22:55Dayna Roselli: Crowd surfing.
- 22:56Sean McAllister: Crowd surfing, the mosh pit.
- 22:58Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I'm not quite there yet, which I don't think is gonna happen anytime soon anyway, but I'm just saying, yes, no, it's true.
- 23:04Dayna Roselli: And you and I talk all the time about when we do go out, it's like that feeling of like, okay, we're out, okay, now time to go home.
- 23:11Dayna Roselli: Like it's not like we want to keep hopping from place to place all night.
- 23:14Sean McAllister: No.
- 23:15Sean McAllister: Uh-uh.
- 23:16Dayna Roselli: It's a weird security to, you know, like we feel like home is where we need to be more often.
- 23:22Sean McAllister: But you know what I was just thinking about, and it's it's such a God, it's so weird to think about like the ups and downs that we've all been through over the past year.
- 23:34Sean McAllister: It was uh back in April, you and I were doing some work out in the community.
- 23:39Sean McAllister: Uh big company was delivering meals to to hospitals, all to all of the hospitals across the Las Vegas Valley.
- 23:47Sean McAllister: We were documenting uh that and getting some video footage.
- 23:51Sean McAllister: And I remember thinking to myself as we were waiting for one of these uh meal drops to happen, I didn't want to sit on any benches.
- 24:00Sean McAllister: I didn't want to touch any railings.
- 24:02Sean McAllister: Like I was mortified and petrified to touch anything that was in a common area.
- 24:09Dayna Roselli: No, it's true.
- 24:10Dayna Roselli: We were so I think even sometimes we wore gloves.
- 24:13Dayna Roselli: I mean, we were just so worried, but yet we needed money, we needed to survive, and we wanted to also be a part of you know these good projects that were going on in the community.
- 24:23Dayna Roselli: So we were super careful.
- 24:25Dayna Roselli: We made it through, and you know, we were cautious, and it was just such a weird time.
- 24:29Dayna Roselli: Everything about it it's weird.
- 24:32Sean McAllister: I mean, and it's still weird to think that we're not quite through it just yet.
- 24:36Sean McAllister: We see the light at the end of the tunnel, but there's still a little ways to go before we we fully get there.
- 24:41Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 24:42Dayna Roselli: All right, well, not directly related to Las Vegas, but let's just have a quick little button-up on the Harry and Megan interview.
- 24:49Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh.
- 24:50Dayna Roselli: And we're talking about Prince Harry, and the only reason we feel like he's a little bit of an attachment to Las Vegas, because remember when Harry came to Las Vegas, um, partied in Las Vegas.
- 25:01Dayna Roselli: What was he doing, like strip poker or strip pool in one of the suites?
- 25:05Sean McAllister: Yes, and everybody's everybody was supposed to surrender their phone before they went into the suite, but somebody didn't.
- 25:12Sean McAllister: Right.
- 25:12Sean McAllister: And there were some pictures that ended up coming out of that suite, and Harry was a little naked.
- 25:22Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 25:23Dayna Roselli: So at first everyone was kind of mortified.
- 25:26Dayna Roselli: We're like, oh my god, what did the prince do?
- 25:28Dayna Roselli: And we were embarrassed, but then we embraced it and we were like, hey, you know, come to Vegas, party on, party where Harry parties, and you know, let loose.
- 25:35Dayna Roselli: This is where you can come and and be your true self.
- 25:38Dayna Roselli: And so it turned into this marketing tool for Las Vegas.
- 25:42Dayna Roselli: And now obviously there's so much drama surrounding his his marriage and his family, and he's moved to America with Megan and the whole Oprah interview.
- 25:50Dayna Roselli: I don't even think we need to clue you in.
- 25:52Dayna Roselli: I'm sure you've seen enough clips.
- 25:53Dayna Roselli: But yeah, if you Google Harry in Vegas, there were plenty of um well fun pictures to look at.
- 25:58Sean McAllister: Well, and he had a blast at the the pool parties too while he was here.
- 26:03Sean McAllister: He was living it up, living his best life.
- 26:06Dayna Roselli: Listen, Harry served in Afghanistan, I think it was.
- 26:09Dayna Roselli: I think it was two year for two years.
- 26:11Dayna Roselli: So listen, he deserved to have some fun and I think he's blow off some steam.
- 26:16Dayna Roselli: Blow off some steam now.
- 26:17Dayna Roselli: He's well, according to some, trapped in this marriage where his wife tells him everything to he has to do.
- 26:25Dayna Roselli: Or for others, they feel you know he's in a wonderful marriage and uh he's taking control of his life.
- 26:30Dayna Roselli: Everyone has different opinions on that.
- 26:32Dayna Roselli: We won't go there, we won't we don't want to get Pierce Morganed where we have to walk offset and everyone hates us.
- 26:37Sean McAllister: No.
- 26:37Sean McAllister: We we just wanted to hearken back to to simpler times.
- 26:41Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 26:42Sean McAllister: When when the big news was that Prince Harry came to Las Vegas and had a great time.
- 26:47Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh.
- 26:48Dayna Roselli: Hey, listen, we also uh appreciate everyone's feedback on our rumors revealed segment idea.
- 26:54Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 26:54Dayna Roselli: I mean, we're not quite there yet, but we're getting a lot of yeses.
- 26:57Dayna Roselli: So we're trying to figure out what we could do with that and if we will at all.
- 27:00Dayna Roselli: But we love all the ideas and messages that we got about that.
- 27:03Sean McAllister: Well, and we're because the the whole idea of this is you know, Dana and I have been journalists for 20 plus years each.
- 27:12Sean McAllister: So we are very good at protecting our sources.
- 27:16Sean McAllister: So that is one thing.
- 27:17Sean McAllister: If you are uh supplying a rumor to Vegas revealed, your identity will never become known.
- 27:26Dayna Roselli: True.
- 27:26Dayna Roselli: Never.
- 27:27Dayna Roselli: It's hard though.
- 27:28Sean McAllister: We're like lockboxes, we have secrets left and right.
- 27:30Dayna Roselli: I mean, listen, I was driving over here and I was thinking there's five things I could say right now, but I won't.
- 27:39Dayna Roselli: I'll I'll leave that for when the, you know, to really, really open up the segment with a with a doozy.
- 27:45Dayna Roselli: I don't know.
- 27:46Dayna Roselli: So yeah, we'll see how that goes.
- 27:47Dayna Roselli: We're trying to think about that a little bit more.
- 27:49Dayna Roselli: And maybe once Vegas opens a little bit more and people are out, you know, gallivanting around.
- 27:54Dayna Roselli: Is that the right word?
- 27:55Dayna Roselli: They'll be more virgin.
- 27:58Sean McAllister: Whatever you want to say, yeah.
- 28:00Dayna Roselli: Um okay, we're gonna take a quick break and we've got some secret tips coming up next.
- 28:07Sean McAllister: Remember, even when you're not listening to Vegas Revealed, you can go to Vegas-Revealed.com and get all of our podcast episodes, our video, even stories about what's happening in Las Vegas.
- 28:19Dayna Roselli: That's right, and we commit to doing these weekly polls, so we want you to chime in.
- 28:24Dayna Roselli: We usually put that right on our Twitter page.
- 28:26Sean McAllister: And it takes a lot of time and effort to do all of the things that we do here at Vegas Revealed, and support from sponsors is always welcome and appreciated.
- 28:36Sean McAllister: And if you're listening at home, you can also go in our show notes and click on the link to support Vegas Revealed yourself.
- 28:44Dayna Roselli: Okay, we're back with Dana and Sean's secret tips, and this week it was easy because Sean and I went out together to eat at True Food Kitchen at the form shops at Caesars, and as we were walking, we were like, you know what?
- 28:56Dayna Roselli: There are so many amazing places in the shopping areas of our resorts.
- 29:02Sean McAllister: Yeah, as we were uh going out to to lunch, it got my wheels turning and and we started talking, and it's like, you know what?
- 29:10Sean McAllister: You don't normally think of going to a retail destination when you start thinking about making reservations for lunch or dinner.
- 29:20Sean McAllister: But there are some great dining options like True Food Kitchen.
- 29:24Dayna Roselli: And the forum shops are plenty of them.
- 29:26Dayna Roselli: Carmines is in there, Sushi Roku is amazing, and it has a great view with windows and also Joe's Stone Crab.
- 29:34Sean McAllister: And that is so good.
- 29:36Sean McAllister: I've been there for some special occasions, and oh, the food is just delicious.
- 29:42Dayna Roselli: It really is.
- 29:43Dayna Roselli: And that's just the forum shops.
- 29:44Dayna Roselli: I mean, they have plenty of other restaurants in the forum shops as well.
- 29:48Dayna Roselli: And then there's Miracle Mile shops, Grand Canal shops.
- 29:51Dayna Roselli: So these are all shopping areas of resorts.
- 29:54Dayna Roselli: Uh Miracle Mile is in Planet Hollywood, Grand Canal is in Venetian, and there's restaurants in there too.
- 30:00Sean McAllister: And not to mention uh Fashion Show Mall, where you have Magianos, Little Italy, which is delicious.
- 30:06Sean McAllister: Also, Capitol Grill is in there too.
- 30:08Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 30:08Dayna Roselli: And they have an amazing uh Mexican restaurant in there.
- 30:11Dayna Roselli: I think the sugar factory is over there as well.
- 30:13Dayna Roselli: So there are like, you know, options for you.
- 30:15Dayna Roselli: So dig deep when you come to visit Las Vegas.
- 30:18Dayna Roselli: It's not just the, you know, the body of the casino and the resort that has the restaurants.
- 30:23Dayna Roselli: Venture out to some of these shopping areas.
- 30:25Sean McAllister: Yeah, and you'll get some good eats, and who knows?
- 30:27Sean McAllister: Maybe if you, you know, have a a few cocktails, it'll get you in the mood to go shopping too.
- 30:33Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 30:34Dayna Roselli: You and I had something different for us.
- 30:37Dayna Roselli: Vegan chocolate chip cookies and ice cream at True Food Kitchen.
- 30:40Dayna Roselli: That was really good.
- 30:42Dayna Roselli: Different.
- 30:42Dayna Roselli: It tasted different, but it was good.
- 30:44Dayna Roselli: There was like a little, like a, I don't know, kind of a different flavor to it.
- 30:47Dayna Roselli: What were we described it as like a sharp flavor?
- 30:50Sean McAllister: Yeah, it was almost like it it had a a little bit of a tang to it, like if it was made with sour cream or something.
- 30:56Sean McAllister: I doubt that it was made with sour cream.
- 30:57Sean McAllister: Maybe it was.
- 30:58Sean McAllister: Who knows?
- 30:59Dayna Roselli: Who knows?
- 30:59Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 30:59Dayna Roselli: It was delicious.
- 31:00Dayna Roselli: It was good though.
- 31:01Sean McAllister: So good.
- 31:02Dayna Roselli: The whole menu at Truefa, if you've never been, the food is fresh.
- 31:05Dayna Roselli: It's really, really good.
- 31:07Dayna Roselli: And Sean and I were there to support and get the word out about dine with a purpose.
- 31:13Dayna Roselli: And that starts on the 15th of March and goes through April 30th.
- 31:17Dayna Roselli: And you can eat at a bunch of places at the forum shops, and then a portion of your bill will go to Three Square, which is our main food bank here.
- 31:25Sean McAllister: And for every dollar that Three Square Food Bank receives, that's three meals for people who need it.
- 31:32Sean McAllister: So I mean you can imagine that, you know, obviously every dollar helps, and every dollar is doing incredible things for the Las Vegas Valley.
- 31:42Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we we love it.
- 31:42Dayna Roselli: And the Palm is another restaurant in there that's taking part in this.
- 31:46Dayna Roselli: Uh, Water Grill, which I actually eat at all the time.
- 31:48Dayna Roselli: I go there just for the clam chowder and Caesar salad.
- 31:51Sean McAllister: I miss I haven't had clam chowder in years.
- 31:53Dayna Roselli: It's so good at Water Grill.
- 31:55Dayna Roselli: Trust me, everyone.
- 31:56Sean McAllister: I forgot about clam chowder.
- 31:58Dayna Roselli: Yes, it's delicious.
- 32:00Dayna Roselli: And there's like clams in there.
- 32:01Dayna Roselli: The presentation is beautiful.
- 32:03Dayna Roselli: There's like carrots and corn and big chunks of clam and potato.
- 32:08Dayna Roselli: It's delicious.
- 32:09Sean McAllister: I used to go to a bar called Casey's with my parents back in Brockport, New York.
- 32:14Dayna Roselli: Oh, yeah.
- 32:14Sean McAllister: When I was growing up, and we'd get clam chowder there.
- 32:17Sean McAllister: It was always so good.
- 32:18Dayna Roselli: That does sound good.
- 32:19Dayna Roselli: And you just ordered something from Rochester that you missed recently, and you were sending me pictures of your semi-garbage plate.
- 32:26Sean McAllister: I was so excited.
- 32:27Sean McAllister: So Zweiggle's hot dogs are these hot dogs that I think are are really only found in Western New York, and they're so good.
- 32:37Sean McAllister: They're red hot and they're white hots.
- 32:40Sean McAllister: The red hots I think are are beef hot dogs, and the white hots are pork hot dogs.
- 32:45Sean McAllister: But when you cook them, like the casing bursts open when the hot dogs are done cooking.
- 32:51Sean McAllister: So it looks like they're kind of split open, but that's how you know they're done.
- 32:55Sean McAllister: And I have never had a better hot dog.
- 32:58Sean McAllister: Zwiggles all the way.
- 32:59Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 33:00Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 33:00Dayna Roselli: You were how many cases did you order do you order a case or what'd you order?
- 33:03Sean McAllister: Well, I ordered they come in six packs, and it's half red, uh, half white.
- 33:09Sean McAllister: Right.
- 33:10Sean McAllister: And so I got six of those.
- 33:11Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 33:11Sean McAllister: And they come, they come overnight in you know, refrigerated styrofoam packaging.
- 33:17Sean McAllister: It's legit.
- 33:18Dayna Roselli: And it's funny that I said garbage plate because anyone listening that's not from Rochester might not know what I'm talking about.
- 33:23Dayna Roselli: But in Rochester, New York, they we have a place called Nick Tahoe's.
- 33:26Dayna Roselli: Their garbage plate is hots and meat and hot sauce and macaroni salad all mixed together in one plate.
- 33:34Sean McAllister: Yeah, it starts with a bed of home fries or French fries.
- 33:39Sean McAllister: Then you get your choice of uh hot dog, hamburger, or cheeseburger.
- 33:45Sean McAllister: And then there's the meat hot sauce and the max salad that's mixed in there.
- 33:50Sean McAllister: I always put ketchup and mustard on top, cut everything up and mix it all together.
- 33:55Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's like the hot and cold too, is so good, right?
- 33:58Sean McAllister: It's so it's last time I went home, I tried to eat a full garbage plate because back when I was, you know, in my college years and early 20s, I could polish one off easy.
- 34:11Sean McAllister: I took five bites and it sat like a brick at the bottom of my stomach.
- 34:16Dayna Roselli: I feel like I could polish it easy.
- 34:19Sean McAllister: So good.
- 34:20Sean McAllister: I wanted to finish it, but I couldn't.
- 34:23Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 34:23Dayna Roselli: Well, speaking of that, we need to heat up our lunch because now I'm hungry.
- 34:26Dayna Roselli: We do.
- 34:27Dayna Roselli: And I brought over some Tupperware Roselli special.
- 34:30Dayna Roselli: But listen, also, our responses keep coming in on our question this week of are you ready to go to concerts and festivals?
- 34:36Dayna Roselli: So we'll share some of those on our social media pages.
- 34:38Dayna Roselli: We are at Vegas Revealed.
- 34:40Dayna Roselli: We're also at Dana Roselli and at Sean MC TV.
- 34:45Sean McAllister: There you go.
- 34:46Dayna Roselli: Have a great week as we reflect back and remember, we are so fortunate to have everything that we have today.
- 34:53Sean McAllister: If you're in town, we'll see you around.
- 34:56Sean McAllister: If you're out of town, plan your Vegas trip.
- 34:58Sean McAllister: We'll talk with you next week.
- 35:03Sean McAllister: Let's go back.
- 35:05Sean McAllister: Let's baby.
- 35:06Sean McAllister: Let's go in there.
- 35:07Sean McAllister: Let's go to the bag.
- 35:08Sean McAllister: Let's go ahead.
- 35:09Sean McAllister: Let's stay away.
- 35:11unknown: Let's go.
