- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and it is Friday, it's 17th of
- 0:17October and you are so clever. You've made it to the end of
- 0:21another week, and here we get to bask in the anticipation of the
- 0:26weekend ahead and read some proverbs together.
- 0:30That's right, we get to travel through time back to sit at the
- 0:34feet of the great King Solomon and hear these little snippets
- 0:40of wisdom given to him by God for us so that we can be wiser
- 0:45and live a wiser life. How good is that?
- 0:48So as we come to the end of our week, let us come before our
- 0:52God, Holy Spirit, transform us and shape us into your people
- 1:00with this wisdom that you have captured for us today.
- 1:06Oh yeah, let us do it. Let us read Proverbs chapter
- 1:0917-8 to 14. A bribe is like a lucky charm.
- 1:25Whoever gives one will prosper. Love prospers when a fault is
- 1:31forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.
- 1:39A single rebuke does more for a person of understanding than 100
- 1:43lashes on the back of a fool. Evil people are eager for
- 1:51rebellion, but they will be severely punished.
- 1:58It is safer to me to bear robbed of her Cubs than to confront a
- 2:02full court and foolishness. If you repay good with evil,
- 2:11evil will never leave your house.
- 2:17Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so stop
- 2:22before a dispute breaks out. And again, a bribe is like a
- 2:31lucky charm. Whoever gives one will prosper.
- 2:38Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it
- 2:42separates close friends. A single rebuke does more for a
- 2:50person of understanding than 100 lashes on the back of a fool.
- 2:58Evil people are eager for rebellion, but they will be
- 3:02severely punished. It is safer to me to bear robbed
- 3:09of her Cubs than to confront a fool caught in foolishness.
- 3:17If you repay good with evil, evil will never leave your
- 3:21house. Starting a quarrel is like
- 3:27opening a floodgate, so stop before a dispute breaks out.
- 3:41Thank you, Jesus, that you show us the way of love and so
- 3:46beautifully here. And verse 9 we read that love
- 3:52prospers when a fault is forgiven.
- 3:56Oh Gee, it's so easy and so tempting to hold on to the
- 3:59wrongs of others. Pop it in our pockets so we can
- 4:03pull it out when we need to argue our own righteousness and
- 4:06their corruption. Lord, this is not your way.
- 4:11Your way is to forgive. Your way is to love.
- 4:16Love keeps no scores. So pray that you would take our
- 4:22fallen spirit, our broken human way, and you would replace it
- 4:28with your spirit of love. This love that keeps no score,
- 4:33this love that draws together, builds relationship with
- 4:41generosity and with kindness, so that our houses would not be
- 4:46places of quarrelling and where we pay anything with evil, but
- 4:52that this kindness and forgiveness can become who we
- 4:55are. So our God of love, we thank you
- 5:02for giving us this better way and for showing us what this
- 5:05love looks like through giving us Jesus.
- 5:09And we love you in return and pray that this love would be our
- 5:13way in His name. Amen.
