Jalen This past weekend, my fifteen year old team discovered that we have a podcast. And they jesus: That's right. dear. dear. Nolan: They were like points soy. And I was like, all right man. But I also, you know, if they're listening right now, I got a big shout out to them. They got me my first medal. You know, good for you guys. jesus: Okay SoCal Cup Medal We're bringing home the blang blang Come on man Congratulations man Okay Nolan: Dang right, we got third place in our division out of 56 teams, I believe. Right on, gentlemen. We got one more one more trip to Florida to hopefully get another one. And we'll see what's going on from there. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Yeah, they they were they fought hard. But they could have fought harder. You know what I mean? You know what I mean? Yeah. So you're listening out there, guys. jesus: Congratulations, my friend. Congratulations. okay. Yeah, sure. Nolan: Lock in. Alright? Lock in. I'm not flying to Florida to fly back empty handed. Alright? jesus: If you're listening, look it. That's right. That's right. Nolan: Yeah, we got a lot of news nuggets. We didn't record last week just because based off of how much news kind of released that week. but we are gonna cover some things that released last week as well as this week, so we can get it to you guys fresh and easy. starting off, we do have to start with some somber news. as we do sometimes. the young actress, I'm hopefully I'm pronouncing this name right. DeVee Chase, who was the voice of Lilo and Lilo and Stitch, as well as she played the ring girl. She was also a part of the Ghibli film. Why am I blanket the my gosh, I have it here. I have it here. Don't worry. Don't worry, everybody. Spirited Away. She was Chihiro in the English dub of Spirited Away, one of the most famous f films in history. but yeah, she did jesus: Yeah. Nolan: Recently passed away. and it it's sad to see. You know, she she was a part of a lot of our generation's youth as well as a lot of the properties that we know from growing up. Jalen, your thoughts on this? jesus: you know, any time it's one of these ones that we we lose, right? It's just one of those things where you never really want it to happen. It's always a disbelief, right? 'Cause they gave us so much good art and good work beforehand. So it's more of just always trying to find that place of appreciation for what they did give us, and that in that kind of sense. but it's never you're never like ready for that kind of news every time, you know? Nolan: Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. jesus: And it's happened a l I mean, we've lost a lot of really good talent, I feel like, in the last year or so. So unfortunately she is going to add to that list, but yeah, very grateful for the memories 'cause like that's somebody who shaped our childhood in a lot of ways. You know what I mean? Especially if you're in the in your thirties. She influenced your childhood in some form or fashion. So Yes, a hundred percent. A hundred percent. Nolan: Yeah. Yes. You've heard her voice before, you know what I mean? And that's that's huge. It does seem like the cause of death was something surrounding the malnutrition as well as organ failure. It says that she was dealing with a period of homelessness. So, you know, check on your people. you know, some that some people are going through some battles you may not even realize. People like Miss Chase here. We we had no idea what her life was like since her acting career. so you know. Be mindful, be considerate, be helpful where you can and be, you know, confident in how you treat others whenever you can. but let's move on to some news. Let's get this thing rolling. next news nugget. Toy story five. Now, you know, we we keep telling ourselves, why? Why are we making another toy story? You know, after the first one, the second one came out, banger. jesus: Mm-hmm. Nolan: And then they said, we're gonna do a third. Bigger banger. Then they said, let's do a fourth. Not as big of a banger, but it's still a banger. And then they said, you know what, we got another one in us. Let's do Toy Story 5 to round out the starting five. You know what mean? And Opened worldwide with 312 million. so if there was any doubt in anyone's minding, mine included, I think this corrected that. So I I stand corrected. I apologize for ever doubting why they would make another one. I have not yet been able to see it. I had the the three-day tournament last weekend. I'm still getting a lot of things prepped this weekend to fly out to Florida the following weekend. so I'll hopefully get to see it soon. but it the second biggest opening for an animated film ever in the US. obviously this this article here has a little bit more to do with how it's gonna perform this weekend against Supergirl that's just releasing. but Jalen your thoughts on Toy Story 5 just completely swinging for the fences right out the gate. jesus: Not surprised really at all, if I'm gonna be completely honest with you. because we all know this the formula with kids' movies, okay? Formula with kids' movies is they make money. That's point blank period, because everybody can go see these movies. Everybody, grandma, grandpa, younger sister, older sister, mom, dad, doesn't matter. Everybody can go see these movies. It's an easy family activity to go to. Get your kids out of the house for a little bit, get them to do something and go watch a movie. So not surprised at all. N I I mean, it's Toy Story, it's a huge IP. Nolan: Mm-hmm. jesus: Everybody loves Toy Story in some form. I'm a little bit behind. I think I stopped after three because I was so emotionally devastated like everybody else was, so I haven't seen four and five, but I'm not surprised in the slightest at all. So but yeah, not not surprised for sure. And then if we want to stop for a little ad break, I need to use the little boys' room. That'd be great. And then we can come back. Nolan: Yeah. Cool. Wow. Alright. You know what, Jalen? Where is your professionalism? go. Just go. Hurry up. You got you got a minute. You got a minute. Blue Chew. I'm scared. Alright. Well, we're we're just gonna wait for Jalen to return from the restroom. but something that is actually kind of fun to think about when it comes to Toy Story 5 is that this came the first movie. jesus: Drop the ad, no one. Just drop the ad, okay? Drop drop the ad. We'll be back. Give me give me a minute. Nolan: came out I wanna say close to thirty years ago. I can fact check that really quick. Let me see when the first Toy Story film came out. Toy Story Nineteen ninety five. Yeah. So we are at the Thirty one year mark the release of Toy Story. And you know, we're now talking about a film that somebody probably was taking their young child to, when they were maybe thirty years old. and now we're talking about potentially that same person bringing their grandchild in, or maybe even great grandchild, to see Toy Story five. I think that speaks a lot more volumes of just how dominant this franchise has been and for all the right reasons. You know, they they they don't decide to make these movies unless there's something to actually, you know, produce. And I don't think you have actors like Tim Allen and Tom Hanks deciding to return for this. unless it's something that's actually worthwhile and it's actually gonna speak to the public. 'cause it's it's kind of like socio socio I don't know what the correct word, socioeconomic, something like that, where it just speaks to the actual humankind, in how we kind of take things day by day. but we'll we'll see how this kind of goes and then we'll we'll move from there. Moving on to our next news nugget. welcome back, Jalen. Editing Magic, everybody. He's returned. the next thing that we're talking about is Backrooms the movie, which has also passed $300 million worldwide. The first A24 film to do so, which is a fantastic feat. we've talked about it for the past few weeks, you know. jesus: Hello. Crazy. Nolan: This movie, Obsession. They have taken the world by storm. Low budget films that have just r raked in all the money that they could. insane profit value percentage-wise, if we're talking about from the what their budget was to this. Jalen, your thoughts on this film breaking records. jesus: well done. Five thousand out of ten. A very obscure, indie, v like, you know, weird concept of a film because it was like a originally kind of like a game scenario, but also then it was made by YouTubers also kind of did some stuff. So like what a crazy lore drop, in general to try to make into a feature film, to then have the feature film be so well done that it's so well received that everyone's Nolan: Yeah, it was like a short short yeah thingy. jesus: continuing to go see it on repeat. So again, I think that yeah, these this this might be a a shift in the tides. I know we're gonna have brand we're gonna have brand new day come out this summer. We're gonna have Avengers Doomsday later this year. So like there's gonna be some really cool stuff in these bigger films, but I will say I do think maybe there is a shift that we are seeing in the Nolan: Mm-hmm. jesus: you know, the landscape of filmmaking and and movies in general, like people are ready to see just good film back in the theater. They they they will go to go see a movie that sounds weird and it's not a big MCU IP if it's good. Like I heard kids talking about going to see Obsession at practice the other day. Like it's hitting that audience because these guys are younger and they can hit that demographic to go get those repeat views. You know what I mean? so yeah, good on backrooms Nolan: Mm-hmm. jesus: Good on a on on all those types of films, really, to be honest. Because I think it's a good shift in the tide of where we're going with Hollywood right now. So yeah. Nolan: Absolutely. Give these young up and coming directors a shot, see what they can do. So far, you know, Hollywood is two for two right now in this year, giving these d young directors who don't necessarily have any Hollywood experience, silver screen experience, but they know what they're doing and clearly it's paid off for these studios. So congrats to both of them. Kane Parsons has a bright future ahead of him as long as you know it I think the second and third film he ends up making will be the the real test because this is yeah, because this is also an IP that he was a part of in its zeitgeist upbringing in the influence not influencer, YouTube era. Yes. He he has the eyes for it. Yeah, yeah. jesus: For directors, yeah, that's usually Yeah, it's his baby. So like he's gonna ha this is like the best Audition tape of him, right? Like it's when we let's see what he does with somebody else's story that he's gonna adapt from a different script, right? Like what's his real, you know, artist eye of that kind of thing. Which is always the thing. Like I love that these guys are popping off right now, but I do that is the that is how Hollywood goes. We've seen it a hundred times. Young Hot director comes in, their first movie's a banger, the next ten are duds because they can't figure out anything past their first success, right? Like Night Shyamalan might be a good example, right? He had that glory run and then he hit that wall and it's kind of still still Nolan: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. jesus: Stayed right on that wall. broke out a little bit with the the movie with Anya Taylor Joy and James McAvoy. Jesus, why am I forgetting Jesus Murphy. What am I? Split, yeah. Kinda broke that with split in that trilogy he kinda got going. but really it was never quite back to peak night Shyamalan, you know what mean? So like Right. Nolan: Yeah. Yeah. Split. Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he did a flurry of movies where he just kind of highlighted his daughter as an actress singer, you know? jesus: Maybe he should just do rom coms instead or something, really change it up, you know. The next Knight Shamalan directed film is Jennifer Lopez in Manhattan. She works as a maid and then falls in love with some British guy. Nolan: think they did that one already. Again. They did it again. But in Office Romance. It's on Netflix now. Starring Brett Goldstein from from Ted Lasso. Now they there was that one which was which was a different one, but now it's Office Romance where she's a CEO who falls in love with a British guy. jesus: shit, they did. Did they did they do it already? What was it called? Do you remember? damn it. Surely they didn't call it made in Manhattan. Right? They didn't they they wouldn't Okay. So it's literally the same movie. Nolan: It wasn't bad. I enjoyed it. It was a fun you know, fold my laundry watch, eat dinner, need something to throw on. Didn't feel like anything too heavy or deep. It's a good film. also I'm a big fan of Brett Goldstein, so you know. next news nugget we got, guys. Supergirl Rotten Tomatoes. it's a bumpy flight, you know? I looked up Rotten Tomatoes for this. as of right now jesus: Okay. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Okay. Fair enough. Mm. Nolan: It's at a 58% critic rating, out of 208 reviews. But the audience rating is at 77, which means that the general audience seems to enjoy it. you know, we we talked about this film. It had a concerning timing of release. You know, we clearly we wanted to get this new DCU running. You got Superman in, great. You got a lantern show coming out, fantastic. Why they decided to go to Supergirl next, I don't know. James Gunn did not direct this one. From the reviews I said or s saw, a lot of people are saying like at this point, maybe you just need James Gunn to direct all of them. So maybe it was the director who kind of botched the the landing on this one, or the takeoff, if you will. But it it seems like it's gonna be a divisive one again. this one more so than what Superman was, 'cause I guess y technically you could say Superman, the general audience and the critics were positive on it for the most part. but this one seems to be a little bit more split down the middle. a lot of people talking about where they wanted to make the actress or the character look cool rather than bringing a compelling story. some are saying it's just a little messy. others are saying that it's kinda bland, some are saying that it's kick ass and sassy, you know, so it it just kinda depends on your flavor of the week, I'm gonna say, when you go watch it. But Jalen, your thoughts on Supergirl kind of having this half-so, half-so review. jesus: mean they can say like maybe the director is blah blah blah but like That guy was just a body. Like this is a James Gunn movie. Let's be real. It's like you can from the cinematography to how it's structured to the vibe that they got from the trailer, he is very much involved. Let's not let's call a spade a spade. Yes, there is another listed director, so he didn't commit that kind of time to it, but he is very heavily involved in this DCU that he's trying to build for continuity's sake. Like the suits all have the same James Gunn esque design, 'cause we even see the lantern suit, with the at least a little bit of it in that trailer now. So like let's get Nolan: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. jesus: real real about it, okay? this is still a James Gunn blunder. You can blame the director because he happened to be on the film, but it is a James Gunn blunder because he is very much involved in now all these things. Is it any fault of Millie Alcock? I very much doubt it when I go see this. I very much doubt it. Nolan: I don't th yeah, I think from the reviews no one said that she's the problem. So I'm so Yeah. jesus: Because she is a phenomenal talent, and we if you've seen House of the Dragon season one, you absolutely know that she can carry pretty much any scene that she's in. She I without a doubt in my mind, I know that when I walk out of the theater, one thing I will not complain about is Millie Alcock, that's for sure. so yeah, I'm interested to see lore wise what they are going with here because it was supposed to be a lot of Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow. I me personally as a comics fan who's has actually read that run, I I'm not Nolan: Mm. jesus: Like I I don't see a ton of it to be honest. Like cinematography wise, I figured if they were doing that it would look way more colorful like the the the book is. instead it looks like kind of Guardians of the Galaxy with Kara Zorrell. So Yeah, I'm again James Gunn really can only make one kind of movie and it's very, very apparent and I w again, until he shows otherwise, I'm I'm not able to be convinced that he can do anything else. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Yeah. well I mean, you know, th this is probably just not the this isn't what we wanted. This isn't what we wanted. And we got we got Superman two coming out next, so that'll be hopefully a return to form. This was in a so er jesus: No, it's not. I just want it to be d like anything else than what it is right now. Like we can have a little bite on these characters. We can have it be grand scale with these characters. It doesn't have to be sunshines and rainbows. I'm okay with a brighter color palette even. Like that's fine. But for the love of God, give it some kind of substance, right? Get like if we're calling back to Christopher Reeve, that's fine too. But like, my God is this bland. Brandon Ralph's version did a better job of encapsulating that than the freaking James Gunn version ever did. like the only real positive thing out of that was like I think Nolan: Yeah. Mm-hmm. jesus: The score being updated was kind of cool, but like Nolan: Mm. jesus: You know? Like Superman wasn't even the star of his own movie, bro. Like everybody came out of there being like, Whoa, Mr. Terrific is so cool. Crazy to say that in a Superman solo film, IMO. You know? So the yeah. Nolan: You know? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's it's gonna be a it's gonna be a tough one. I'm debating if I even wanna go in theaters to see it, so we'll see. jesus: I'll do it justice, don't worry, I'll bite the bullet. We'll have to do it for the content, it's okay. It's alright, I'll sacrifice my retinas and cones and rods. Nolan: Attaboy. Adamboy, that's why we have you here on this podcast, son. Okay, alright. Anywho, moving on to the next news angle we got for you guys today. Michael Kine has lent his voice to an AI reading of the Odyssey audiobook. Now, the only reason I bring this up is one, we you know we've talked about AI here and there as it's come up. This is something where he has agreed to lend his voice likeness for the reading of this audiobook. jesus: wonderful. Yes. Big difference, I think. Nolan: But the question does kind of be gets brought up. In situation like this where, you know, people are saying you're looking at it at the positive side of it, like, Michael Cain's in agreement to do this, you know, it's something where he wants his voice to continue forward as needed, whatever. But you're also looking at it from a side where there is a world of audiobook voice actors, I guess we'll call them, readers. that do this for a living, that do this as a job. And now we're allowing not just a Hollywood celebrity to come in and do the voice reading for it, but the AI version of a Hollywood celebrity doing the reading for it. does this seem like this kind of has you know the beginning of some problems as we continue forward? jesus: Mm-hmm. That's right. I think if we ever get to a point where If we ever get to a point where they're just working these into contracts and these actors aren't seeing it, right? Like they don't get the they don't read through the fine print, yes, I do. I think that it's gonna end up being a big problem. If it still stays like this, where the actor has to consent to give the voice over, or they have to use or they could consent to use the likeness for some kind of, you know, digital recreation. I think if it's possible with technology, why not? at least use it in that Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm. Mm-hmm. jesus: type of type of way. and all that kind of stuff. Like you know, it's just one of those things that it you can't really fight against anything that's happening 'cause everything's gonna keep progressing and eventually AI will be embedded into everything we do anyway. So it's one of those at least if we're gonna use it, let's use it with some good guardrails on what's right and what's wrong on on a certain on a certain level. So I think this type of thing doesn't bother me. What bothers me is if somebody just decided to take Michael Cain's voice because they got a bunch of film clips and then they just decided to use it without his knowledge or consent. That is theft. That is not okay. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. jesus: So that's where I kind of draw my line. If an artist is involved and they want to use AI tools, that's a different story. If they are not involved and then an AI person's trying to claim that they are some kind of artist or something like that, no. You wouldn't that's not you know, that's not really where it's at. So yeah. Yeah, different spades, man. Nolan: Yeah. No, yeah, I mean I I I am in that kind of reservation side of things where it does seem little like you don't want it you don't want one these voice actors f one fighting against Hollywood actors to get these kind of jobs. Obviously there's there's there's circumstances. There's certain ones that probably are more appropriate to be reading certain things. Like I wouldn't I wouldn't even have blinked an eye. If Matt Damon was like, yeah, I'm gonna do the reading for the Odyssey because he's promoting the Odyssey coming out, which he's a star of, I get it. Cool. But then you're also looking at it as well now these audiobook reader voice actors now have to not battle well just Hollywood, but they also have to battle with AI and its its pursuant upbringing into the world, into the sphere. it's kinda worrisome, you know? And I think I mean we'll we'll probably hear some clips online here and there. but the one fear also is that, you know, this AI stuff for now probably doesn't sound emotional. Doesn't have the connotation, then infliction of what you're what you're saying, what you're reading. So we'll we'll kind of see how that progresses as well. But I'm I'm not too big of a fan of this news coming out. Nothing against Michael Kine. I do think that the fact that he's agreeing to do so, fantastic. That's the only way I'd want it to be done. but it is just a little worrisome. That's my thoughts on that. You know, you know. Next news nugget we got guys. jesus: Yeah, a hundred percent. Nolan: Gears of War, live action movie. it's gonna be the origin of the Delta Squad going to Netflix. Jalen David Leach is directing this film, the director of Bullet Train, The Fall Guy. Two films that have comedic undertones. In a very lively action setting. Right? now my fear of this that Gears of War by definition was not meant to be a funny film or a funny game. Funny IP. I don't want that to get kind of blended in. I'd rather it maybe just like quick quips here and there. That's fine. Cool. I get it. Like Phoenix and Dom kinda bantering with each other. Absolutely. jesus: Right. Right. Mm. Cute, you know. Nolan: Yeah. But what are your thoughts? Cause I do think I'm I'm very excited about the action set pieces that we're gonna be getting from from David Leach in an IP like Years of War and with Netflix, quote unquote, you kinda have an unlimited budget, so it's kinda fun to think about. Your thoughts. jesus: Yeah, I think it's just one of those things where like just keep the game like the game is, right? Like keep the keep the thing like it is. We don't have to do anything crazy. Everybody's already excited 'cause it's Gears of War. We haven't had any really any live action Gears of War stuff. Like it's crazy. so don't just fly off the handles. Don't try to take advantage of stuff. You know the stuff is good that's in that's already on your plate. Just use it. Just use it the way that it's already been displayed and shown, that the way the fans remember the game. Very, very simple game plan. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. jesus: trying to get cute and add all these creative wrinkles I think does more harm than good nine times out of ten. So just keep it simple, man. Keep it keep it all straightforward, man. That's all we gotta do. Okay? Nolan: Yeah, absolutely. I'm in agreement. now they are coming out right now with a new Gears of War game, E Day, which is the origin, technically, of when the the infections kind of took over the world and how it all went to crap. so it's gonna be interesting how they're gonna kinda juggle the game. Also being a part of this, are they gonna take some things here and there from the game that's being released, or is it gonna be kind of working hand in hand? Who knows? I'm here for it. I'm a big fan of Gears of War. Played the games all the way through Gears of War 3 in college. Fun stuff. Great stuff. Next news angle we got, Jay. Anya Taylor Joy joins the next Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum. She will be playing, I believe the name is Saren. I could be pronouncing that wrong, because I'm only reading a name on jesus: Mm. Nolan: on a report. it's Saren, which is a Cindar Elf of the Woodland realm. And if we're being completely honest, she is elf. Wha I mean wha what else would she really have to play in that? You know what I mean? Yeah, she's she she it's an elf. It's like Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. jesus: Well You t you tell me she gonna be an elf? She gon' be an elf? Listen here, Showdy. Listen here, Shawdy. Yeah. Yeah, we're here for that. Yeah, we're here for that. Anya Taylor Joy is a little elf in Lord of the Rings. Respectfully. We here for that. Respectfully. We here for that. What's good, Bill? What's up, dude? Just recording an episode, man, which for what you got. What do you think about Anya Taylor Joy? It's gonna be in the next Lord of the Rings film as an element. Nolan: Okay, okay. respectfully, respectfully. Jillin thoughts. Thoughts on this. What's good? Ask him what he thinks about Ani Taylor Joy being jesus: I think that that's a perfect casting call in theory. They were just gonna go off looks. She kinda has like that young Galadra Sil type of facial stuff. I don't know. It's kinda like that Nolan: Damn right. Damn right. Yeah, okay, he knows his shit, okay. jesus: That person that everyone wants to play Zelda. I don't know their name, but they look exactly like trans actress, Hunter Schaefer. That is exactly right. That's how I feel about Nolan: yeah. jesus: Anya Taylor Joy as an elf in general. The reason I came in, I'm sorry, I came in not knowing you were recording to ask if I got a Switch too, would you actually play it with me and like do games out front? Fucking yes. Absolutely, bro. I'm gonna throw down with you on Smash Bros. and watch you get this Mewtwo whipped to your mouth, bro. I'm terrible at so that is possible. I just remember that being the main thing I played at your house all the time. No, whatever we played, Smash Bros. did the did they also play Smash? Yes. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Why is that a question? Why is that a question? yeah. We played everything. jesus: In their tiny little apartment. We made some parties happen. Don't you best believe? We got any Captain Falcon players, the people's champ? I don't think anybody played Captain Falcon. You did play a lot of Samus, I do recall. Yeah. I do recall. Legit. Also, gonna look up show times for Supergirl later if you want to join. Let me know. Today? Yeah. I don't know. Come on, mate. Sorry for the interruption. you'll be that's a beautiful interruption. You're all good, mate. Hi, friends. Nolan: I'm a s I'm a Samus player, you know what I mean? Like charge it up that shot. You're good. You're good. Ha hello. jesus: Look at that. A little bit of a a little bit of nerd crossover for you. How about that, folks? How about that, folks? Nolan: And there you have it. We have confirmation that Anya Tailor Joy is the correct choice to play a Woodland Realm Elf as Saren. That's all. Next news together. Curry Barker, the director. jesus: He Nolan: Creator of Obsession has just inked his deal with Universal and Bloomhouse Atomic Monster, which means, you know, Jason Bloom and James Wan, two horror icon not gonna say horror icon, but horror film behind the camera icons, if you will. in Hollywood. It seems like he's on the up t upward trajectory that we talked about. His second film, I believe, has already been shot. I don't remember when that's gonna be releasing technically, but the third one Looks like it's gonna be an eight-figure deal. So, Jalen, your thoughts on Curry Barker getting his shine right now? jesus: Dude, more than earned, right? How much money has Obsession got now? It's like a frickin' billion or something crazy. on that tiny little budget. Yeah, give the guy some give the guy some stuff, okay? Let's see what he does. If he crashes and burns, he crashes and burns. But I compared to the the backroom guys, I genuinely think I think this kiddo's got a little bit more in in the tank as far as like some real creative juices to get like a project off the ground and going. Nolan: Mm. Mm. Yeah. jesus: Because of how obsession it ended up playing out. So I'm and mainly because he was able to do a thing where he has the repeatability of it. He hit the demographic with that movie. It wasn't too far on one side of the scale. It felt approachable if you're not a horror fan to go in and watch that movie. so yeah, I I think this kiddo, pfft, man, he he's he might actually just take off and run holl. He might be the next Spielberg. I know that's a high pr high praise, but I mean he's kinda got the goods. Nolan: Yeah. Mm-hmm. jesus: right now. You know what I mean? Like that's you know? So kudos to him. I loved watching his shorts before he got all big and famous. always made me laugh. So yeah. Nolan: Can't get the goods. Yeah. Right on. You know, I yeah, I'm I'm in complete agreement. I think that he is getting everything that he deserves right now. I hope that he maintains his integrity as that kind of director. and doing it for the love of the game, not just be doing it because he's he wants the paycheck. I think that's that's who we have right now, someone who really cares about the filmmaking process and creating something for the screen. So that's gonna be fantastic. some reason it didn't get posted, I don't think. So I'm going to Do this screen share because this is important, Jalen. She's back. Elodi Young is returning as Electra. There have been set photos of her for season three, Daredevil Born Again. let me see if they had it here. they don't have it on this post, but she was there in her full getup. jesus: That's right. That's right. We're here. Nolan: Jalen, we've talked about getting her back in this, obviously having to confirm how she would be brought back to life since this is now a continuation of the Marvel Daredevil. your thoughts? jesus: Yes. We okay, we can't deny that Daredevil is in brand new day anymore. This is ridiculous, okay? If she if we have Electra coming back in season three, the end of season two, Matt's in prison. And then the one prison scene that's in brand new day is him fighting the hand. The one thing that could connect Daredevil and Electra back together. Guys, come on. Like I'm not crazy here, man. This is gonna happen. yeah, phenomenal news. She was Elodie Young was easily one of the best Nolan: I am in agreement. No, I I'm I'm a hundred percent in agreement. jesus: I think just straight up just the best iteration of the character. I loved Jennifer Gardner's in iteration in both her little like in Daredevil and in the Electra solo movie. I thought she brought a lot of different things, but obviously, like if we're really getting a more authentic version of Electra, Elode Yong just absolutely crushed it whenever she was on on Netflix. So give her another round. I think if they keep the same pace that they did in season two of Born Again, that this show is just is gonna continue to get even wilder now that they get to have all access to all the MCU stuff. which I think is very, very important. Now what I will say is I know that they're trying to avoid the connection. But however, I don't think it's that hard. If you really wanted to do something cool, to just kinda have a stunt man with the mask on and have Tom do the VA. Nolan: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. jesus: Over the masked stunt man and have a little cameo scene. Just a little just a little bit, just to connect the worlds together, okay? Just a little bit. Make it all make sense. It's not a big deal. Everybody's in New York at the same time. Continuity, guys. It makes sense. Come on now. Let's be playful. Let's be a team here. because how in God's name does Peter not even like acknowledge or turn around that bro like Nolan: Mm-hmm. Continuity, smontinuity. jesus: Hell's Kitchen was on fire in that season. Literally on fire. N and nobody was like Hey, maybe we should go check it out. See what's going on over there. Nothing? Nolan: There was an anti-vigilante task force. What is Spider Man? A vigilante, by definition of the New York mayor. Yeah. Yeah. So he exists. We know. Do it. jesus: The Gilan. And he definitely got name dropped in season one. Like, literally by Wilson Fisk. So why can't we just do the thing, right? but anyway, I am looking forward to that. Can't wait for more Lodi Young. She is phenomenal. Charlie Cox is phenomenal. Can't wait for more Daredevil season three. Can't wait. It's it's amazing. It's amazing. Nolan: Heck yeah. Heck yeah. Back to our presentation slideshow. But let us know what you guys think about Lodi Young returning to Daredevil. Next news nugget. Jalen, this is You know, this was this caught me off guard. couple reasons, couple reasons, you know? Well well we got Jim Carrey. Yeah, Jim Carrey says that he is returning for a sequel of How the Grinch stole Christ Christmas with Ron Howard. jesus: regulates a scheduled program. Okay, what the hell is happening here? It's wild. Nolan: Now for those who are not in the know, Jim Carrey said that he had to go through SEAL training in order to focus his mindset as he had to sit in that prosthetics makeup chair for hours upon hours upon hours. Yeah, it was it was Yeah, obviously, you know jesus: Wasn't it like eleven or twelves sometimes? Like it was crazy back then 'cause they didn't have all the ad advanced techniques they do now. Nolan: Prosthetics makeup has evolved since then. So there's probably something in the contract where it's like maybe maybe partially CGI for like the body and maybe just the face prosthetics that are gonna be done. Who knows? but the fact that this is this is coming to light a sequel for how the Grinch stole Christmas. first and foremost, Jalen, Jim Carrey agreement to come back for this when he's still been flirting with the idea of retiring must mean something good. jesus: Maybe it's his like going out tour, maybe? This is just I'm gonna do all my hits and then leave. Maybe we're gonna get an ace Ventura sequel too. You know what I mean? Like I feel like this is the kind of the farewell tour. Like I'm gonna do a lot of stuff I like to do and then just be done. also really hard to follow the first one, because that thing is an instant was an instant classic when it came out. Nolan: Maybe, maybe. Yeah? my Lord Jesus. If that happens. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And there was there's there's source material for it, right? I mean they they they took a lot of liberties. They to extend the film to a h to a Hollywood length. But now now we're we're going back to the well for how the Grinch stole cr if if you if if you know if I'm correct, he was no longer, you know, like the Grinch. You know, he's he was a happy go lucky I love Christmas guy now. so in what what what world is there like jesus: Right. They sure did. They sure did. But it was a really good adaptation. I don't know, man. Yeah. Nolan: Another grid? jesus: Maybe Jack Frost steals Christmas or tries to steal Christmas because he used to be homies with the Grinch. Nolan: We we d we did that. We did that already. You know, it we did that already. jesus: But it's this version, so it's different. Nolan: It's Zack Frost. jesus: Zack Frost. It's Jack's cousin. From the other pole. Nolan: Hire us, Hollywood. Yeah. Well, okay also I was thinking, what if what if it is something maybe What if it is something where he is a you know, we we think of him as the one and only one of his kind. What if there is a demographic of Grinches? And jesus: Now we got it. Billion dollars. What if there's a whole planet of Grinches and they come down from outer space? Hmm. Bang. I do remember the film. It's good. Nolan: And they're just a whole snowflake of Grinches, if you will. You know what I mean? If you remember the film everybody, wink. But what if it's just like a a a flurry army of Grinches trying to steal Christmas and he's the one Grinch that can stop it. And he goes, he's like, How did the Grinch steal Christmas? By stealing it back from the Grinches. That's jesus: The Greench War. There's a Game of Thrones meets Doctor Seuss. Battle of the bastards. Can we can we get somebody to draw that up in AI real quick just to see how ridiculous that would be? Use cling or something, I don't know. Nolan: Battle of the Bastards in the Snow Grinch Please someone do that and send it to us. That'd actually be hilarious. But Jalen, your your your true thoughts on this sequel potentially being greenlit officially for Universal. jesus: yeah, I just I I good for you, Mr Carey. I don't know how well it's going to go, but I I applaud the effort. I applaud the effort. Good luck to you on your journey. I probably will not be seeing this film. If I'm going to be if I'm going to be honest about it. I just I have no the original is so good I don't wanna bother seeing another version. Nolan: Just be out of respect of the original or jesus: To be honest. It's just like not even a respect thing. It's just like the original impacted me so much as a child because of how good it was that I just don't want any other memory to exist outside of that movie. You know? Nolan: That's fair. That's fair. That's fair. I mean on surface level on paper, you get Jim Carrey, you got Ron Howard returning for this. Fantastic. Fantastic. I just need to know what the story's gonna be. It has to be a story that makes sense. I don't think you would have signed J Jim Carrey to come back unless the story was a banger, because I think he i Yeah, he it's he's very choosy now. F out of r you know, respectfully. That that yeah, he he deserves to be choosy about what he's doing now. jesus: I don't think he would have come back if it wasn't something substantial. Nolan: But yeah. Something to get him back in that makeup chair that there has to be something golden. And I I am more intrigued about this now that it's been announced than I was about just the the possibility of him ever doing no sequel. So Yeah. Yeah. That's that's the big winner. jesus: Right. That's the big distinct in there. Nolan: But yeah, that'll do it for us here on our news nuggets. Moving on to our trailer reviews, Jalen, the first trailer we got, Shrek 5. You know, all things aside, people are still giving it gripe about how the animation looks compared to the originals. Congratulations, guys. Animation has improved over a decade. I'm so sorry for your loss. yeah. Yeah. jesus: Mm-hmm. I guess I guess you want it to look worse than it does now, which makes no sense. Nolan: Yeah. It they look a little bit different. Shrek's a little more aged. Fiona looks a little bit different as well. You never watched Shrek for the animation. You watched it because it made you feel good. Yeah that that's that's what it was for. Yeah. jesus: And it was funny. And it was heartfelt. And it was real. It was a story. Right? Like there were some things there. There was relatable stuff. There was adult humor in there that which now when you watch it is way more hilarious than when we were kids. Like Nolan: Yes. There's probably gonna yeah, th I mean y GNG has Ging G has a gumdrop BBL. Like we're look here we are. Here we are guys I don't know what else to tell you. jesus: The the first time I got to adulthood and really went back to rewatch Shrek as like a a 19, 20 year old was like one of the best days of my life because you sit there and you're like, my god, they just really put this shit in this movie. And no one noticed except for the adults in the room, because we were all like, I don't know, eight, nine, whatever whenever that came out. Nolan: Yeah. Yeah. One of the biggest ones I remember specifically is when Pinocchio was like hanging. He's like, We need your nose to grow. So you wear women's underwear. I wear women's underwear. And it didn't grow. And I was like, my it's a thong. I'm gonna do this really quick because this this deserves just to like we got we gotta watch it. Come on. jesus: okay. Surely, surely, why not? Nolan: First of all, it goes Yeah. To further, further away instead of far far away. Come on. And you see Shrek's kids there, Shrek and Fiona's kids. jesus: Ha ha. Nolan: Jesus I'm kicked up like a freaking bakery. Come on, come on, everybody. That that's a beautiful jab at Disney. jesus: Hey yo. What a day to snowman. Nolan: Shh. Ooh Come on, everybody. Come on. You're telling me you really care about what the animation looks like when it's putting out banger stuff like that. Come on. Come on. I I do need to see how the the the two's the two sons as well as Zende as as the daughter are incorporated into the film. Hopefully they they match and they hit. I believe it's what's the the the boy who pla the guy who plays Jimmy Olson in the new Superman. jesus: And they got the OG soundtrack in there too, you know? Come on now. Nolan: Something Gisando or something I forgot his first name. Yeah. As well as Marcello Hernandez from SNL. I think his last name was Hernandez. If I'm sorry. Yeah, Marcelo. You know. you know, you know. Yeah. I love that guy. He his stand up is actually hilarious. But Jalen, your thoughts overall about Shrek Five? jesus: yes. Something. I I know who you're talking about though. Yes. Yes. Marcello. Marcello. I love that guy, man. He is phenomenal. Yes. Yeah, great. Looks great. I'm not gonna be like hankering to see it, but I'm glad that there's still more Shrek to be had for at least the kids growing up now. You know what I mean? Maybe they've seen the first, you know, three or four at home and now they get to be excited about the th the fifth one, going to go make that an experience or a memory with their their kids, you know? I think that's really cool. Nolan: Heck yeah. Heck yeah. and then let me see if I can do this really quick. Let me give me give me a second. Because, you know, the next one that we got going on. Spider Man brand new day. Trailer two. they they they're letting a lot out the bag on this one. Probably because of the let's let let's let's just let's let's get into it, guys. Come on, let's get into it. Let's jesus: This one was a banger. This one was a full real first trailer. Let's be real. Let's be real. Yeah. Nolan: First of all First of all, we w I think the most hilarious part about this is like he's like, I'm finally getting my do, I'm coming back as Scorpion. You're gonna get your ass whooped in five seconds and never be in the film the rest of the time. Like welcome back. jesus: Can we just acknowledge that he fucked him up right there, bro? Holy shit. Boy got my boy got the hands with the utmost swiftness. Okay. Like that was some like real deal Spider-Man unlocked right there. Nolan: Welcome back. my goodness. Ha ha ha. Mm. Is that is that Jean? jesus: It's either Jean or it's Charles. Nolan: No, because we're talking about Sadie Sink here. Right? jesus: Think about it. Think about it. Who are the two mutants on a visual medium that we've ever seen be able to do that, where people are stopped cold in their tracks and it looks like time is, you know, paused. Gene is the only other mutant on Charles' level that could probably do something to that degree. Nolan: I don't know. That's true. jesus: It makes no sense why it's Gene, because we haven't met any of the other X Men yet, but whatever. It's probably Gene. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. they know each other. Miss you too, Mursa Tomei. Ain't that the truth though, Jalen? Like, coach, you gonna scrimmage with us today? Just let me let me get it. jesus: God damn. Hold on guys. we get we get that. The practical stunts Thank you, Daniel Destin, or whatever his name is, whatever it is. It's just Destin Cretin, I thought Destin Daniel, whatever. Thank you. Thank you for getting back to some practical effects using Tom Holland's athleticism in these stunts. Cause it all just looks a bit Nolan: Destin Creton. Destin Destin Daniel Creton? Yeah. jesus: Than the CGI fill-in stuff. You know? There's gonna obviously it's Spider-Man. We're gonna do some cool CGI beats. Let's not be ridiculous. But if you can save and do a lot more things practically and then layer on the VFX, it always just looks better, man. and how how great is that suit? It is the is a literally a love child to Toby and Andrew's suits over the last, you know, twenty years or so, so Nolan: It looks so good. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. jesus: Yeah, that's that's probably the last trailer I will view, to be honest, because that's a lot of stuff there. That's the first full reel trailer, so anything else is now just gonna be spoiler potential warning. so after all those things, but I I am very much excited to go see. Brand new day, as you know, big Spider Man, Buff Guy, Lore Guy, love it all to death. Now we are entering territory that Nolan: Heck yeah. jesus: Could get a little bit sweaty because I think the ongoing theory right now for us is it's gonna lean into some man spider things with the mutation. however there was an interesting theory I did see that could introduce a very familiar foe. Well, the thinking that what if and this is a big what if, what if Peter is actually being mutated by the symbiote itself? Nolan: Mm. Do tell. I thought that. I thought that. You know? But what's jesus: And then by the time we get to said Secret Wars, it finally shows itself as the symbiote suit. To where at the end of this film he'll die and we get that beautiful cover from f I forget which particular Spider-Man issue, but it's where he's crawling out of his grave in the black suit. Full transformation. And that gets us into some Secret War stuff. So I think it would be really cool if they could push that angle a little bit. Also, there have been some clues as to Miles potentially being somehow sprinkled in here as a fun discovery for this film. That's really, really deep weird theories because of some of the posters that have come out. It's a lot of connecting strings to dots, but listen. I don't think it's my I don't think Miles is coming in this movie, but it would be cool. Nolan: Yeah, that's a lot. That's a lot. I don't think it's miles. I wish it was. Yeah. They said they're not gonna do it, you know. jesus: Yeah, it would be cool, man. But but yeah, Daredevil's a thousand percent in this movie. You cannot convince me otherwise until I see it. Nolan: I'm with it. Yeah, yeah. 'Cause like you gotta think about it, like, you know, MJ's like, you're gonna mi let go alone. Go alone to save your friend. jesus: Who's in prison where the hand are going and you are involved in Shadowlands in that particular Daredevil run with the hand Electra Let me tell you something? Nolan: Now let me tell you something, Frank Castle. Let me tell you something. I can't wait for this damn movie to come out. One more month, guys. One more month. I'm so hyped for this. Well, that'll do it for our trailer review, Jalen. We got one last thing that we gotta cover, and I'm gonna let you take it away. House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 1. Let us know what's going on in West Rose. jesus: Like, come on guys, just say it. It's okay, just say it. That's it. One more month, we're there. Yes. Banger. Banger. Everything is going on in Westeros, bro, because it picks up right after the end of season two, like this is this is the war. This is what happens when you set off the Mad Queen. Everything is going to shit and going crazy. Damon Damons out here trying to recruit the biggest army possible to overthrow King's Landing. S Reneer's getting her dragons ready and all that kind of stuff. There's so many other mini subplots that I can't even cover all of them in this episode, to be quite frank with you. But the big hitters are that God forbid, Rhaenera can get one semblance of peace in this goddamn show, man. Because this is a spoiler review, by the way. Nolan: Mm mm. Mm mm. Yeah. jesus: Because not only has she already lost one son to dragons from the the from her friend again, because her son is also a psychopath, literally just a mini daemon. but I think a little bit more crazy also. but now she looses Chase. Like, for the love of God, she just cannot catch a break, and there is no rhyme or reason she should not just set the entirety of King's Landing on fire. I am with Rhiera a hundred percent on this quest of vengeance with Damon. Bring the fire! Bring the whole thing down, bro. I want blood and carnage, and that's what I was promised in this season. And so far, that's what episode one is. There's a little bit of action weaved into it, but as a Nolan: I stand with my queen. jesus: returning, you know, Game of Thrones season one episode, it's not quite the the full on hour-long war episode that we we've gotten before. So it it it starts off with a little bit of a bang. The the ending of it is really cool and paced well. I feel like there's a lot of cool sequences, but it's not the hour long like we are just at war the whole time episode and stuff's going down. so I am excited for more of that down the road because I think Again, Reneer's shown that like when when it's time to just put all chips on the table, like we are she's she's just not she's just not the one, bro. Like she's just not the one, bro. Like that's not that's not it. So yeah, phenomenal return. It's gonna be another fantastic season. All the characters have a lot of things on their plates, as Game of Thrones always tends to do. Nolan: She gon' flip the table, that's what she gonna do. Huh. jesus: It's not just a B plot with Game of Thrones. It's like, here's plot A, here's plot A1, here's plot A three, and they're all great quality. They're they all mostly make sense. so yeah, really, really good job. Can't wait to see how this one kind of unravels itself. And again, if anything if I know anything about Game of Thrones, there are always consequences to any action. So Whoever killed Jace, man. Nolan: You're fucked. jesus: That was that was not the move, my guy. That was not the move, okay? Nolan: I saw obviously I haven't seen the episode yet. I'm probably gonna do like a deep binge watch later on. but someone was joking on Twitter, X, whatever you wanna call it, about this picture specifically of Damon and they were like, I just think it's so badass that he doesn't fly in on his dragon. He just he's on the ground fighting for the love of the game and I was like, Yeah, that that is him. That's that's him jesus: That's real. That's real. Damon is a warrior. Like he is the epitome of what that mentality is. Like he has like Damon does have a sense of honor, whereas his nephew, unfortunately, does not. He is a psychopath. He just doesn't care. He'll cheat. He'll lie. He'll do whatever he needs to do. Damon, however, as as lethal as Damon is, there is that line of honoring the the sense and the the the honor of battle in a war. Where he wants to go sword to sword, test his own metal, see how many people he can slay, before, you know, before having to turn it off to his dragons. So so yeah, I I think that is one aspect I do enjoy about Damon for sure. And I think he's that's why he's probably the favorite character. Also, we all know that actor is just phenomenal, right? Like Amorbius aside, dude can dude can really pull off some good stuff. So he is great. He's so all they they all are really. Nolan: Slay Slay Yes. Matt Smith is just a gem. Like the the the variety the variety of roles that he's done and yeah, you know, come on. This is Doctor Who, you know. jesus: Yes. Phenomenal. Yeah, exactly. Doctor Who, now he's Damon, so yeah, absolutely phenomenal. Cannot wait to see the rest of the season. If you are a House of the Dragon person or you've not caught up to House of the Dragon 'cause you were scorned by Game of Thrones, just do yourself a favor. Go go go run it back. Go watch it. actually even if you haven't seen Game of Thrones, just go watch it. Because like there's stuff that kinda teases future stuff, but like Nolan: Mm-hmm. jesus: Really the things that pop up in there when you hear the the names from the the original show if you it's only really like a a little nugget and a treat if you've watched the original show. Like when when we get to meet like the great great great grandfather of like the Stark family or something like that, like that's just for us. You know what I mean? It's not anything like we're gonna sit there and be like, Wait, how do they know or whatever? 'Cause it's just like, this is like so far ahead of where the original show was it doesn't matter. And they can still probably do like ten seasons of this show before anything really would add like start to logistically catch up. So yeah. Nolan: Yeah. Meh Yeah. Yeah, I agree. Banger, banger. And we'll be coming back at you next week with episode two. Jalen, any last thoughts, any last things that you want to share with the people out there? jesus: That's right. Nah, I will I will keep my head held high and hopefully have a great time and hopefully be able to catch some some super girl today. I'll try to do like a little IG review and throw it over to the channel. And hopefully, hopefully it's a good time. Hopefully it's just a a pretty solid film from what I'm expecting, but you never know. I am looking forward to seeing the Lobo character as Jason Momo. I feel like that's that's surely they can't mess that up, right? Like so that can't be feels like that's right up his alley, but it's James Gunn. He could he messed up. Superman somehow, so we'll s we'll see how this goes. You know Nolan: but yeah, that'll do it for us here on this segment of postcredits. Once again, everybody, we appreciate you all for joining us, giving us a listen. If you're out there and you're interested in movies, share this with your friends. Do what you need to do. Get some more ears and eyes on us. We appreciate you all. And as always, thank you for making us a part of your day. We enjoyed having you be a part of ours. From all of us here at Poinsoy, your vibes and love, everybody. jesus: Those.
