- 0:01There is considerable confusion about what exactly meditation
- 0:05is. This is compounded by the fact
- 0:08that there are numerous different techniques that are
- 0:11taught as meditation, ranging from practices that are called
- 0:15mindfulness to those, that include detailed visualizations,
- 0:21SRI aurobindo provides an overview of various practices
- 0:24that fall under the concept of Gianna, which is not precisely
- 0:28translated as meditation. There is us, not one.
- 0:33Absolute, and perfect method of meditation.
- 0:36Rather meditation can be practiced variously by different
- 0:40individuals based on their capacity, their background, and
- 0:45the inner need SRI aurobindo observes quote.
- 0:51There are two words used in English to express the Indian
- 0:54idea of Gianna meditation and contemplation meditation means
- 1:00properly the concentration of the mind on a single train of
- 1:03ideas, which workout a single subject, contemplation means
- 1:09regarding mentally, a single object image idea.
- 1:14So that the knowledge about the object image or idea, You may
- 1:18arise naturally in the Mind by force of the concentration.
- 1:23Both these things are forms of Tiana.
- 1:27For the principle of Tiana is mental concentration, whether in
- 1:31thought Vision or knowledge, there are other forms of Tiana.
- 1:38There is a passage in which Vivekananda advises you to stand
- 1:42back from your thoughts. Let them occur in your mind as
- 1:46they will and simply observe them and see what they are.
- 1:51This may be called concentration in self-observation.
- 1:55This form leads to another the emptying of all thought out of
- 1:59the mind. So as to leave it, a sort of
- 2:02pure Vigilant blank on which the Divine knowledge may come and
- 2:07imprinted Itself undisturbed by the inferior, thoughts of the
- 2:11ordinary human mind and with the clearness of a writing and white
- 2:15chalk on a Blackboard, You will find that the Gita speaks of
- 2:21this rejection of all mental thought as one of the methods of
- 2:24yoga and even the method it seems to prefer this may be
- 2:30called the Dianna of Liberation as it frees.
- 2:34The Mind From Slavery to the mechanical process of thinking
- 2:38and allows it to think or not to think as it pleases and when it
- 2:43pleases or to choose its own thoughts or Us to go beyond
- 2:48thought to the pure perception of Truth called an hour
- 2:52philosophy. Mignogna meditation is the
- 2:57easiest process for the human mind, but the narrowest in its
- 3:00results. Contemplation more difficult,
- 3:04but greater self observation and Liberation from the change of
- 3:08thought the most difficult of all, but the widest and greatest
- 3:13in its fruits One can choose any of them according to one's bent
- 3:18and capacity. The perfect method is to use the
- 3:22mall each in its own place and for its own object.
- 3:26But this would need a fixed faith and firm patience and a
- 3:30great energy of Will and the self application to the yoga and
