- 0:01It is a frequent and Universal experience that when an
- 0:06individual takes up the practice of yoga, there are periods of
- 0:10great. Enthusiasm aspiration is active
- 0:14and progress is palpable. It is however virtually
- 0:19impossible to maintain the intensity of the sadhna at all
- 0:24the times. So as the action of the three
- 0:28gunas brings about changes in the inner psychology, the
- 0:32feeling of aspiration, the feeling of focus and commitment
- 0:36Fades and the individual is left feeling empty or dry experiences
- 0:44withdraw and there can be periods of time.
- 0:48I'm sometimes uncomfortably long where one feels like nothing is
- 0:53happening, and there is no progress nor chance of progress.
- 1:00The famous Christian Narrative of Pilgrims Progress, takes the
- 1:05devotee, through various stages of discontent, despondency and
- 1:10despair. It is a true relation of the
- 1:15long dry road that is part of the sadhna and which the Seeker
- 1:20must be prepared to withstand and push on through until he
- 1:26comes out the other side. at that time, the seeker can look
- 1:31back and see the actual progress that has been made as nothing is
- 1:36lost in the sadhna and Times of inactivity, dryness, dullness
- 1:44actually represent periods either for consolidation of
- 1:48deeper experiences, or as times when the basic Thomas of the
- 1:55physical Consciousness comes to the Forefront and needs to be
- 1:59addressed. SRI aurobindo notes, quote
- 2:05naturally the more one pointed the aspiration of swifter the
- 2:09progress. The difficulty comes when
- 2:12either, the vital with its desires or the physical with its
- 2:16past habitual movements comes in as they do with almost everyone.
- 2:22It is then that the dryness and difficulty of spontaneous
- 2:26aspiration come. This dryness is a well-known
- 2:30obstacle in all sadhna, but one has to persist and not be
- 2:36discouraged. If one keeps the will fixed even
- 2:40in these Barren periods, they pass.
- 2:44And after their passage a greater force of aspiration and
- 2:47experience becomes possible. And quote reference SRI
