- 0:33Speaker 3: really means to go through recruitment, from the outfits and
- 0:36Speaker 3: parties to the pressure and drama and everything in between.
- 0:39Speaker 3: But we're not going to stop there. We'll also dive
- 0:42Speaker 3: into what sorority life looks like after rush, the friendships,

- 0:53Speaker 1: And best of all, you're finally going to hear the
- 0:56Speaker 1: truth behind everything that goes into sorority rush. And we're

- 1:08Speaker 1: what you can release about sorority rush, and we're ready
- 1:12Speaker 1: to tell it all.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So We're gonna share personal stories, debunk myths, and offer

- 1:21Speaker 2: rush and the years that follow.
- 1:23Speaker 1: We're so excited to dive into our first episode today.
- 1:27Speaker 1: We're keeping it personal and real, sharing our own rush
- 1:30Speaker 1: stories and what sorority life has meant to us.
- 1:32Speaker 4: So let's get started.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Okay, guys, So I am Jen Fessler. You may know
- 1:38Speaker 2: me from the Housewives of New Jersey, but we are
- 1:41Speaker 2: not here to talk housewives. We are here to talk
- 1:43Speaker 2: about something that I went through about a million years
- 1:47Speaker 2: ago at the University of Texas. At Austin, I rushed
- 1:53Speaker 2: my junior year. Actually, I transferred from Boston University. I
- 1:56Speaker 2: started out in Boston even though I'm from Texas, and
- 1:59Speaker 2: I really felt like I was missing out. I was.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Boston is a city school, and UT is the quintessential
- 2:07Speaker 2: college experience in the South. The sororities are big, the
- 2:12Speaker 2: girls are mean. It's everything that you sort of picture,
- 2:16Speaker 2: at least what I pictured before I entered this crazy
- 2:20Speaker 2: world of Greek life and rushing, and my rush experience
- 2:26Speaker 2: I'm going to say was tense, anxiety provoking, exciting, a
- 2:33Speaker 2: little puky, But I think probably less stressful than what
- 2:38Speaker 2: you guys have or had experience, and certainly less stressful
- 2:43Speaker 2: than what goes down today. I can tell you that
- 2:47Speaker 2: I rushed every sorority house at the University of Texas,
- 2:50Speaker 2: but as a Jewish woman, I knew that I was
- 2:54Speaker 2: going to or. I wanted to end up in one
- 2:56Speaker 2: of the three Jewish sororities, and the three were AE FI,
- 3:02Speaker 2: which and please forgive me, because again I just want
- 3:04Speaker 2: to puke a little bit. But a FI, which was
- 3:07Speaker 2: the Pretty Girl Sorority SDT, which was the Nice Girl sorority,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and DeFi E again, please forgive me. I didn't make
- 3:16Speaker 2: it up, but they called it dogs, pigs, and elephants.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I don't know. It's horrifying. Like as now
- 3:23Speaker 2: an almost fifty seven year old woman, I want to
- 3:26Speaker 2: take my night. What is I twenty year old self
- 3:30Speaker 2: and just kind of hold her because it was so scary.
- 3:34Speaker 2: And I remember walking into these big because in Texas
- 3:38Speaker 2: everything is big, these big sorority houses, and the girls
- 3:42Speaker 2: were all beautiful, and they were all thin, and they
- 3:45Speaker 2: were all perky, and I was none of those things.
- 3:48Speaker 2: But I was transferring and I had very good friends
- 3:53Speaker 2: who were part of the Pretty Girl Sorority, which was
- 3:56Speaker 2: a FI. The thing is, I felt more comfortable in
- 4:00Speaker 2: the Nice Girl Sorority SDT. But from the beginning, all
- 4:04Speaker 2: I wanted was what I think you guys call now
- 4:07Speaker 2: top tier tier.
- 4:10Speaker 4: That's what I wanted.
- 4:11Speaker 2: That's what I wanted, and that's what I got, And
- 4:15Speaker 2: for good or bad, I became an A five. So,
- 4:20Speaker 2: which will delve into those years, of course, but I
- 4:23Speaker 2: want to hear about you, guys, and just a little bit.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Tell me a little bit about what schools and a
- 4:28Speaker 2: little bit about your own personal experiences.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Yeah, so I am Gsju Dice.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Some of you might have known me from growing up
- 4:37Speaker 1: on The Royal Housewives in New Jersey.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Now I have a new.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Show on Bravo called Next Gen NYC and a podcast
- 4:44Speaker 1: called Casual Chaos. So my years of my career really
- 4:49Speaker 1: started to evolve once I graduated from college. I graduated
- 4:54Speaker 1: from Rutgers University and I rushed my freshman year. I
- 5:00Speaker 1: rushed my freshman year second semester, and I was one
- 5:04Speaker 1: of a few of my friends actually that did rush
- 5:08Speaker 1: because a lot of them did not reach the GPA requirement.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So to rush at Rutgers, you had to have a
- 5:17Speaker 1: two point five GPA, and some of my friends, honestly,
- 5:21Speaker 1: a lot of my friends didn't have that, so I
- 5:24Speaker 1: was a little nervous.
- 5:25Speaker 4: I didn't know if I then wanted to wait.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Until my sophomore year to rush because all of my
- 5:30Speaker 1: freshman year friends and all of the girls in my
- 5:33Speaker 1: dorm weren't rushing. So I was kind of going in alone.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I knew a couple people that were still rushing and
- 5:40Speaker 1: that were able to rush, but I kind of went
- 5:42Speaker 1: through the whole rush process by myself. So Rutgers is
- 5:48Speaker 1: not like Alabama. I definitely don't think it's like Texas
- 5:52Speaker 1: about it. So to give you a little backstory, I mean,
- 5:57Speaker 1: Rutgers is in New Brunswick.
- 6:00Speaker 4: It's not the best area. It's not the best town.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Rutgers kind of takes over New Brunswick and New Jersey.
- 6:07Speaker 1: So not to be like rude, but the town's a
- 6:11Speaker 1: little gringe. I mean, it's it's not like there were
- 6:16Speaker 1: shootings breake ins. I mean, it's definitely rough. So I
- 6:21Speaker 1: think Greek life definitely kind of gave a light to Rutgers,
- 6:27Speaker 1: and it was either you were in Greek life or
- 6:30Speaker 1: you were with the people who played sports, and so
- 6:34Speaker 1: I decided to.
- 6:35Speaker 4: Rush my freshman year. And there were.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Top tier sororities and they were ZTA, G, FI, SDT,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and FI SIG. So those were like the top four
- 6:49Speaker 1: sororities that you wanted to be in while I was
- 6:52Speaker 1: going through the rush process. It was a three day process,
- 6:56Speaker 1: or no, it was a couple of weekends. Actually, the
- 6:58Speaker 1: first weekend was going to see all the houses. So
- 7:03Speaker 1: I think Rutgers had about eleven sororities, so we it
- 7:08Speaker 1: was different rounds.
- 7:09Speaker 4: So the one round then it was Philanthropy was the
- 7:13Speaker 4: last round.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I'm like blanking on the second round, you blocked it, Yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'm blank.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Sisterhood, yes, yes, yes, yes, I think.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So there were there were three rounds of the recruitment
- 7:26Speaker 1: process and it was three weekends. So the first weekend
- 7:30Speaker 1: was really seeing all the houses, seeing who called you back,
- 7:35Speaker 1: and that was definitely intense because you were trying to
- 7:38Speaker 1: impress all these different sororities. And there were sororities right
- 7:42Speaker 1: off the bat where yeah, you're judging a book by
- 7:45Speaker 1: its cover. I knew that I did not want to
- 7:48Speaker 1: be in any of these. Some of them also didn't
- 7:51Speaker 1: have houses, so that was a big thing you would want.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I knew I wanted to live in the sorority house,
- 7:58Speaker 1: so that's why I ad a lot from my list.
- 8:02Speaker 1: And then you know, it's all based off of first impression,
- 8:05Speaker 1: and some people at the time just weren't my cup
- 8:08Speaker 1: of tea.
- 8:09Speaker 4: So as you eliminate, they eliminate you. You go through
- 8:12Speaker 4: this process.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Then it came down to philanthropy where you pick your
- 8:19Speaker 1: top three, and I picked FI, sig.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Gfi, and ZTA.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I was kind of gravitated towards SDT, but they had
- 8:33Speaker 1: a bad rep, even though I really liked the girls,
- 8:36Speaker 1: So I dropped SDT even though I probably shouldn't have,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and I went with FI, sig Gfi, and Zeta because
- 8:46Speaker 1: they were top tier at Rutgers.
- 8:48Speaker 4: And they had the best rep.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And so then I went through it all, and even
- 8:55Speaker 1: though I was probably more gravitated towards GFI, at the
- 8:59Speaker 1: end of everything, ZTA had the nicer house and the
- 9:03Speaker 1: better chef and just all of the amenities that I
- 9:08Speaker 1: thought were nicer in what you were paying for, because
- 9:12Speaker 1: sorority was like paying for a sorority was also crazy.
- 9:17Speaker 4: So at the end of the day.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I then chose ZTA because majority of my friends who
- 9:23Speaker 1: were older and from my hometown were in ZTA because
- 9:28Speaker 1: a lot of people from my hometown went to Rutgers
- 9:30Speaker 1: it was a Jersey school. And then I ended up
- 9:33Speaker 1: choosing ZTA and that was my rush story.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Can I just asked one question about going through it.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I can't imagine going through it as a famous person. Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 2: I mean, I can't imagine how that transformed that experience
- 9:48Speaker 2: for you. I think I don't know. I'm guessing that
- 9:49Speaker 2: it was probably different for you. I don't know if
- 9:51Speaker 2: it was harder or easier because being Gia Judice.
- 9:55Speaker 4: I mean I think I went.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I think it was a little easier in the sense
- 9:59Speaker 1: of nobody that I know, this sounds like screwed up,
- 10:03Speaker 1: and nobody that I wanted dropped me. So no sorority
- 10:07Speaker 1: actually dropped me or I never felt that like horrible
- 10:12Speaker 1: feeling in my stomach. Yeah, I honestly, I didn't feel
- 10:15Speaker 1: too much pressure. If anything, I felt the pressure.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Of choosing the right one.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And at the end of the day, because of who
- 10:24Speaker 1: I was and who my family was, I chose ZTA
- 10:27Speaker 1: because people knew me from home and that.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Sorority, So.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I felt like a sense of comfort and I was like, Okay,
- 10:36Speaker 1: people from my hometown are here. My best friend ended
- 10:39Speaker 1: up becoming my big which we can get all into that,
- 10:42Speaker 1: but I I think I just felt more comfortable and
- 10:46Speaker 1: kind of protected in a way I don't know.
- 10:49Speaker 4: And I was also so nervous in.
- 10:51Speaker 1: College to just have fake friends, so it was kind
- 10:54Speaker 1: of that whole thing.
- 10:56Speaker 2: You guys, we have so much more to get to,
- 10:59Speaker 2: but I got to tell you we are coming to
- 11:01Speaker 2: you from the most gorgeous Verbo in Lake Tahoe, So listen.

- 12:04Speaker 2: upfront price.
- 12:19Speaker 3: So me, I went to San Diego State. I had
- 12:23Speaker 3: no idea about sorority life or what it was, and
- 12:25Speaker 3: from like a small town in Minnesota, like nobody there
- 12:28Speaker 3: did a sorority Like, I had no idea. And then Christy,
- 12:33Speaker 3: who was like my best friend from college, she called
- 12:35Speaker 3: me and she was like, you need to sign up
- 12:38Speaker 3: for recruitment and I was like, I'm not doing that.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Why would I do that.
- 12:42Speaker 3: She was like, I'll pay your recruitment fee and I
- 12:44Speaker 3: was like, I really just don't want to do it.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Christie like I don't understand what it is. Me and
- 12:48Speaker 3: her had never met in person anyway.
- 12:51Speaker 5: She convinced me to sign up.
- 12:52Speaker 3: The night before you could, like sign up, So I
- 12:55Speaker 3: read the last night you could. I signed up, and
- 12:57Speaker 3: then I get to school and our parents drop us
- 13:01Speaker 3: off they leave. It's like this whirlwind. She's like, what
- 13:04Speaker 3: are you wearing? And I'm like, what do you mean?
- 13:06Speaker 3: What you guys when I tell you like, I had
- 13:08Speaker 3: no idea what this was about.
- 13:10Speaker 5: I had no idea.
- 13:12Speaker 3: And then we're picking out outfits and stuff. And coincidentally,
- 13:15Speaker 3: my last names Kent. Her last name is Keller, and
- 13:20Speaker 3: so we were in the same group and it was
- 13:23Speaker 3: like twelve girls, and like San Diego State is like
- 13:25Speaker 3: a huge school, so many girls go through rush and
- 13:28Speaker 3: I go into the first house, I forget what it.
- 13:30Speaker 5: Was and I leave and I was like, hell, no.
- 13:35Speaker 3: This is bonkers, Like this is crazy. I just talked
- 13:39Speaker 3: to all these girls. I felt like they were just
- 13:40Speaker 3: judging everything I sent. I'm like Christy, I'm like I'm
- 13:44Speaker 3: not doing this, and she was like, can you please
- 13:46Speaker 3: just tick it out today just so.
- 13:47Speaker 5: I don't have to go alone? And I was like okay.
- 13:49Speaker 3: And so then I remember I went into Akio and
- 13:53Speaker 3: I was like, wait, that was kind of fun. And
- 13:55Speaker 3: then she convinced me to like stay with the process,
- 13:57Speaker 3: so I did. But it was a crazy experience and
- 14:01Speaker 3: I was like I felt.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Like I was speed dating a bunch of people.
- 14:06Speaker 2: So funny. Guess I look at you, Daisy, and I
- 14:08Speaker 2: see every single girl that intimidated me in every single
- 14:11Speaker 2: one of those houses in Texas like this, they.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Were all beautiful.
- 14:18Speaker 3: And meanwhile, right, and then I remember like waiting in
- 14:21Speaker 3: line to go into the sorority house and like looking
- 14:23Speaker 3: around and every girl's like smiling like this, and like
- 14:26Speaker 3: so many girls are wearing like all this designer stuff.
- 14:29Speaker 5: I had nothing designer, and I was like, what is
- 14:32Speaker 5: going on?
- 14:33Speaker 3: Like why am I here? And then walking in and
- 14:36Speaker 3: having conversations. Eventually I just decided to go with it.
- 14:39Speaker 3: And then I remember on pref day you picked at
- 14:43Speaker 3: San Diego State, it was you could pref to two
- 14:45Speaker 3: houses if they didn't drop you. So I prefed the
- 14:48Speaker 3: two that I wanted.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Was it preh rown?
- 14:54Speaker 3: But so I had Alpha Fi and Akio and it
- 14:56Speaker 3: was like Alpa Fi, Achio and Pi Fi were like
- 14:59Speaker 3: the top houses at s Nego State at the time.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I don't know, like what are now, but I hate
- 15:03Speaker 3: when people are like, oh, top houses because like also
- 15:07Speaker 3: a lot of my other friends were in other houses,
- 15:10Speaker 3: and like I made like such good friends with girls
- 15:12Speaker 3: and other houses too. So I'm just like I hate
- 15:15Speaker 3: the whole like ranking system, I feel like it just
- 15:17Speaker 3: gets more and more. But then anyway, I ended up
- 15:21Speaker 3: doing Alpha Fee and I hated it. For semester, I
- 15:26Speaker 3: hated it, And that was crazy to me too, because
- 15:29Speaker 3: everyone was like, oh my gosh, I love a sorority,
- 15:31Speaker 3: like it's so fun. But I think when you get
- 15:33Speaker 3: into a sorority, no matter what, like not every girl's
- 15:37Speaker 3: and there is going to be your best friend.
- 15:38Speaker 5: And at the beginning, I was definitely.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Like in the wrong group of girls, not saying that
- 15:42Speaker 3: they're like bad girls or like at all, like we
- 15:45Speaker 3: just didn't vibe, you know. And then I like found
- 15:48Speaker 3: my group and ended up loving it. But I think,
- 15:51Speaker 3: especially going away for college for a semester, it can
- 15:53Speaker 3: be scary, like you don't know you're making new friends,
- 15:56Speaker 3: and if you get in the wrong group, like it
- 15:58Speaker 3: can make or break of anything. But now I have
- 16:01Speaker 3: some of my best friends from my sorority still to
- 16:04Speaker 3: this day, and it's so fun.
- 16:06Speaker 2: You guys, well you're because back then my mother didn't
- 16:09Speaker 2: even know what a sorority was, Like she went to
- 16:10Speaker 2: secretarial school in Brooklyn. Yeah, so she didn't. But well,
- 16:14Speaker 2: I don't know if your mom, I'm guessing, was not
- 16:16Speaker 2: in a sorority either. Daisy was yours. No, my all.
- 16:20Speaker 3: My grandma actually was no idea, but I didn't know
- 16:23Speaker 3: until like after I joined a sorority, and then my
- 16:25Speaker 3: grandpa was like, did you know your grandma was in one?
- 16:28Speaker 3: And he was in a frat too, So then I
- 16:31Speaker 3: was like, oh, no one told me about this.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Ever, It's so funny, you know.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I mean my mom graduated with her associate's degree. She
- 16:39Speaker 1: wasn't allowed to go far for school, so she had
- 16:42Speaker 1: no idea. I I signed myself up for college, like
- 16:47Speaker 1: I did everything. I you know, she was there with
- 16:50Speaker 1: me obviously learning and now she has the hang of
- 16:53Speaker 1: it because she's on her third child in college. But
- 16:56Speaker 1: I was the first one. That's why I had a
- 17:00Speaker 1: college advisor helping me, you know, step by step on
- 17:03Speaker 1: how to even apply to schools. Like we had no
- 17:06Speaker 1: idea what we were doing. And then when it came
- 17:09Speaker 1: to sorority, she was like what is this? Like this
- 17:14Speaker 1: is what what are you doing? I'm like, oh, in
- 17:16Speaker 1: DTA having fun. I was like, want to come for
- 17:19Speaker 1: parents weekend? She goes like yeah, okay, Like everything was
- 17:24Speaker 1: just new, very new.
- 17:26Speaker 2: You guys know that now, Like I've heard that the
- 17:28Speaker 2: mothers they have to go for this whole experience, like
- 17:32Speaker 2: they'd wait in hotel rooms to either like to pump
- 17:36Speaker 2: their daughters up or console them or it. Yeah, can
- 17:39Speaker 2: be So do you guys have you heard of that?
- 17:41Speaker 2: As have you heard of anybody there?
- 17:44Speaker 3: I've heard of that, but I don't think it's San
- 17:46Speaker 3: Diego State it really happens. But or when I was
- 17:49Speaker 3: there at least or I didn't even know because I
- 17:50Speaker 3: didn't even know what it was. But I remember girls
- 17:53Speaker 3: like sitting on the curb, like bawling their head off
- 17:56Speaker 3: when they got like dropped from a house, and I
- 17:57Speaker 3: was like, this is like And I remember like a
- 18:01Speaker 3: girl on my floor thinking her like life was over
- 18:04Speaker 3: because she didn't get in one of the houses she wanted,
- 18:07Speaker 3: and I like didn't understand it completely.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Well, you're in an advantage for sure.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I feel like probably down south it's a lot more intense.
- 18:17Speaker 4: So you probably experienced it at Texas.
- 18:19Speaker 2: I did.
- 18:19Speaker 1: But I feel like when I hear especially on TikTok,
- 18:22Speaker 1: because when Bama Rush happens, it's all over TikTok.
- 18:26Speaker 4: It circulates the internet. It's actually crazy.
- 18:30Speaker 1: And there's a couple girls who are now viral from
- 18:35Speaker 1: Bama Rush and now they have s they.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Have a huge following.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Therewith brands now like they're full blown influencers just from
- 18:43Speaker 1: starting this whole, you know, starting their TikTok channel based
- 18:47Speaker 1: on Bama Rush. But then looking at the Bama houses,
- 18:52Speaker 1: their sorority houses are inchin mansions, granic, granite countertop, like
- 18:59Speaker 1: they're like staircases.
- 19:01Speaker 4: I mean, they're nicer than people's average home. Yeah, it's,
- 19:05Speaker 4: oh for sure, insane.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yeah, So I think if I would have done something
- 19:09Speaker 1: like Bama Rush, completely.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Different experience and way more in tons.
- 19:13Speaker 2: So also, I think the difference between old lady Jennifer
- 19:17Speaker 2: and young people beautiful Daisy Angia is that I didn't
- 19:21Speaker 2: have social media. I know that's hard for you to
- 19:23Speaker 2: picture period, but picture me not having it, and I
- 19:27Speaker 2: think probably we were a little bit better off because
- 19:29Speaker 2: I hear now these stories of how you have to
- 19:33Speaker 2: scrub your social media, yes, and then you have to
- 19:36Speaker 2: make sure that when it's looked at, you look like
- 19:39Speaker 2: nobody has ever had as much fun as you have
- 19:42Speaker 2: in their lifetimes.
- 19:43Speaker 3: And it's crazy too, because when you're going into recruitment,
- 19:46Speaker 3: like being on the other side of recruitment, Like you're
- 19:49Speaker 3: looking at girls before they even come into the house,
- 19:52Speaker 3: Like you're looking at their instagrams, You're looking at everything
- 19:56Speaker 3: you can find online about them before they come in.
- 19:59Speaker 4: You're doing a any background check.
- 20:01Speaker 5: And I remember when we were doing that. I was like, wait,
- 20:04Speaker 5: it's so amazing.
- 20:04Speaker 4: We all were looking.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Like through all my stuff before I even like they
- 20:08Speaker 3: were like.
- 20:09Speaker 5: Yeah, we already knew like a lot about you. Well,
- 20:11Speaker 5: which is great.
- 20:12Speaker 4: They basically have their top pick things.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so each shore already has like a list of
- 20:17Speaker 1: their top picks from looking at the potential.
- 20:21Speaker 4: Like the potential members coming in.
- 20:24Speaker 2: And let's see, like what do you think that they are?
- 20:26Speaker 2: What what constitutes she's my top pick? And I again,
- 20:30Speaker 2: it's like so much of this for me as somebody
- 20:33Speaker 2: who is now a mother is just horrifying. And I
- 20:38Speaker 2: know though that Soborty life has been a highlight for
- 20:40Speaker 2: so many It was for young women, for older women,
- 20:44Speaker 2: they love it. But looking at it from a different
- 20:46Speaker 2: a bit of a different perspective, now I'm wondering, like,
- 20:50Speaker 2: when the sisters looked at your social media, what were
- 20:52Speaker 2: they looking for? I have, I could guess, but what
- 20:55Speaker 2: do you think?
- 20:56Speaker 4: I think your first thing right away is your looks.
- 20:59Speaker 5: You're emma, yeah, and.
- 21:01Speaker 3: I think also like looking at what you're involved in
- 21:04Speaker 3: and what you like post about too.
- 21:06Speaker 2: You think there are there sororities that are looking for
- 21:10Speaker 2: they really want women or girls from the debate team.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Are there any of those that exist, or girls that
- 21:16Speaker 2: have done a lot of charity work or I.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Think for sure, because you kind of have you fill out,
- 21:22Speaker 3: I think so.
- 21:23Speaker 1: But I think it also, you know, there's just so
- 21:27Speaker 1: much that goes into it. Okay, yes, you could be
- 21:29Speaker 1: such a well rounded person in high school and you
- 21:33Speaker 1: were on the debate team and you did Decca and
- 21:36Speaker 1: all these things that you did in high school that
- 21:37Speaker 1: were so amazing. But if you don't fit that criteria
- 21:41Speaker 1: of this certain sorority, then they'll place you somewhere else.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Or it's it's like a whole it's a whole ranking
- 21:47Speaker 1: system basically, right, which is terrible.
- 21:51Speaker 2: It is crazy imagine getting ranked women girls getting ranked.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I know, and I remember, like I was always thinking,
- 21:58Speaker 3: because you had like these little like rush sheet. So
- 22:00Speaker 3: a girl comes in and then they would leave, and
- 22:03Speaker 3: you would like rank somebody, and I would always get
- 22:05Speaker 3: sick to my stomach because I was like, this is
- 22:08Speaker 3: like horrible, and I hated doing it. And then I
- 22:11Speaker 3: was like, I wonder what my rush guard said, you
- 22:14Speaker 3: know what I mean? And you started thinking things and
- 22:16Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, these girls are in my sorority and
- 22:18Speaker 3: they were all ranking me. But I did have the
- 22:20Speaker 3: time of my life after that first semester, and I
- 22:22Speaker 3: loved it and I'm so grateful for it. But I
- 22:24Speaker 3: also think it's like important too. You don't have to
- 22:27Speaker 3: be in a sorority, you know. I love college and
- 22:29Speaker 3: have a great time.
- 22:30Speaker 4: I think I definitely could have done without.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I have a ton of friends that were
- 22:33Speaker 5: in a sorority.
- 22:34Speaker 2: So interesting. Yeah, my daughter who is GA's age, just so,
- 22:51Speaker 2: I think a year younger. Then Ujia went through it
- 22:54Speaker 2: also at Delaware, so different than going through it in
- 22:58Speaker 2: California or the South. Maybe a little more alert Wruckers.
- 23:00Speaker 2: But she did it during COVID yeah, and the waiting,
- 23:06Speaker 2: and I was sick for her, probably more sick than
- 23:09Speaker 2: she was waiting to get, you know, to push the
- 23:12Speaker 2: button on the computer and see if what you're you know,
- 23:15Speaker 2: who was preffing you and if it.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Was a mass zoom breakout room, oh my god, yes,
- 23:21Speaker 1: it's ridiculous.
- 23:23Speaker 2: And then I remember she well, I had very serious
- 23:25Speaker 2: ideas of which sorority she should be in, and she
- 23:27Speaker 2: had different ideas, and it was all about for her.
- 23:31Speaker 2: She also wanted to be in a top tier sorority,
- 23:34Speaker 2: and I wanted her to be in the sorority with
- 23:36Speaker 2: the nice girls. And it did matter. Ultimately, it was
- 23:39Speaker 2: her decision and she had a good experience. But there's
- 23:42Speaker 2: a whole other layer to this as a mother that
- 23:44Speaker 2: I won't bore you guys with today, but it is.
- 23:47Speaker 2: It could be really just the anxiety of the whole thing,
- 23:52Speaker 2: Like you know, yeah, made up my medication, I think
- 23:55Speaker 2: during that time a little bit.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it was definitely my Actually my nail tech.
- 24:00Speaker 1: It was her daughter was at Rutgers, goes to Rutgers,
- 24:04Speaker 1: and she was going through the recruiting process and she
- 24:08Speaker 1: was like venting to me, how our daughter didn't get
- 24:10Speaker 1: called back to any sorority at Rutgers. And you know,
- 24:13Speaker 1: when you're in that I'm sitting there getting my nails done.
- 24:16Speaker 1: She's like so upset that her daughter didn't get called
- 24:19Speaker 1: back to any because she knew I went to Rutgers,
- 24:22Speaker 1: I was in Zata, and I felt terrible.
- 24:24Speaker 4: I was like, what do you what do you say?
- 24:26Speaker 4: You know it was and now her.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Daughter's studying abroad and she's hoping that her daughter has
- 24:30Speaker 1: such a better experience studying abroad, and I was like,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I hope so, and I felt I just felt so
- 24:36Speaker 1: terrible because not getting called back to any is probably
- 24:40Speaker 1: the worst feeling that nobody, nobody wants you, you know,
- 24:42Speaker 1: like you're not accepted by anybody. And that's where I
- 24:46Speaker 1: think like the wine needs to be drawn at some point,
- 24:49Speaker 1: because that could just send the girls into such a spiral.
- 24:52Speaker 5: I feel, oh, it definitely does.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Absolutely. I remember walking into maybe my first house. I
- 24:59Speaker 2: walked into Texas, and I was a big girl. Why
- 25:03Speaker 2: at that time, like a buck eighty or something was big,
- 25:07Speaker 2: not whatever anyway, but the point is that it felt
- 25:09Speaker 2: to me like every single girl there was thin, fit, beautiful.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Forgive me, Daisy, they all look like you. They just
- 25:19Speaker 2: did end well and GA two, but they were all blonde,
- 25:22Speaker 2: blue eyes, and I just I just remember feeling that
- 25:27Speaker 2: just less than like I can never aspiring to be
- 25:32Speaker 2: with these beautiful barbies knowing, but I also knew that
- 25:36Speaker 2: I was probably going to go into this Jewish sorority anyway,
- 25:38Speaker 2: so I kind of had that, which was helpful, but
- 25:41Speaker 2: the pressure of that when you're just starting college, right, yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 2: you want to make the right decision.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Yeah, And I feel like a lot of people there
- 25:50Speaker 3: like leaving high school to kind of get out of
- 25:52Speaker 3: those clicks a little bit. And then I think you
- 25:54Speaker 3: get to recruitment and you're going through it and you're like, wait,
- 25:57Speaker 3: is this a click too? Depends where you go for sure,
- 25:59Speaker 3: because I have a friend that I'm really close with
- 26:01Speaker 3: and she went to Ole.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Miss and like, oh that's her right, yeah, and her
- 26:05Speaker 2: like only.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Friends are the ones that were in her sorority and
- 26:08Speaker 3: and like were you friends with like any other girls
- 26:10Speaker 3: and other sororities And she's like no, like once you
- 26:13Speaker 3: got into your sorority, like those were your girls and
- 26:15Speaker 3: like there our best friends were like in her wedding
- 26:17Speaker 3: and everything.
- 26:19Speaker 5: But I think it depends where you go to and
- 26:21Speaker 5: like what the Greek life is, right right?
- 26:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 26:24Speaker 1: No, I mean at Rutgers, you were friends with girls
- 26:28Speaker 1: in different sororities. Yeah, And I think that was also
- 26:31Speaker 1: another thing, if you were a girl, like if you
- 26:34Speaker 1: had boobs and a vagina, you could get into any
- 26:37Speaker 1: frat party. Yeah, so I that is what I was saying,
- 26:41Speaker 1: in the sense of I probably didn't need to be
- 26:44Speaker 1: in a sorority at Rutgers, and a lot of girls
- 26:47Speaker 1: feel that way.
- 26:49Speaker 4: A lot of girls too. At Rutgers.
- 26:51Speaker 1: They rushed, they found their friends, and then they dropped
- 26:56Speaker 1: because they were like, Okay, I have all my friends.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I'm going out the same way that I would be
- 27:03Speaker 1: going out if I was in a sorority. The only
- 27:06Speaker 1: thing that gets a little more clickie is I guess mixers. Yeah,
- 27:12Speaker 1: so okay, Zeta is mixing with Pike tonight, So that's
- 27:15Speaker 1: a closed mixer until ten thirty.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Then the party opens.
- 27:18Speaker 1: At eleven, so now everybody else can come in. That
- 27:22Speaker 1: was the fun part because then you got closer with
- 27:24Speaker 1: the frack like they.
- 27:26Speaker 4: For the fraternities.
- 27:27Speaker 5: That was what was fun.
- 27:29Speaker 4: But a lot of my.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Friends dropped because they felt like they didn't need it,
- 27:34Speaker 1: and what's the point of paying this two three thousand
- 27:38Speaker 1: dollars a semester if I don't.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Need to be in this sorority. If it's not really
- 27:45Speaker 4: benefiting me.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Which is the other thing we should talk about, which
- 27:47Speaker 2: is the money of it.
- 27:48Speaker 5: The money, like how about expensive how.
- 27:50Speaker 2: About those girls that just don't have the money for it?
- 27:53Speaker 4: Well, especially at BAMA.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I know, I know when I told my friend because
- 27:57Speaker 1: my friend went to the University of Alabama, I.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Told her I think my I think I paid like.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Maybe twenty five hundred, close to three thousand probably a
- 28:07Speaker 1: semester to be in ZTA. My friend faith I went
- 28:12Speaker 1: to BAMA and she was in one of the top
- 28:14Speaker 1: tier ones. It was like I want to say, like
- 28:17Speaker 1: probably close to six thousand a semester.
- 28:20Speaker 5: Crazy.
- 28:21Speaker 2: His parents were not only saving for college, they're saving
- 28:24Speaker 2: for Rush. They're saving for like which is crazy, which
- 28:28Speaker 2: is so crazy. I remember like with the boys, so
- 28:33Speaker 2: they went the frats when there were three Jewish frats
- 28:36Speaker 2: also at UT and so you got your bid and
- 28:40Speaker 2: you went to the house and then the boys, all
- 28:43Speaker 2: the boys got to pick which house to go to
- 28:45Speaker 2: to ask the girls to the first mixer, like we
- 28:49Speaker 2: were like yeah, we were like cattle. And then all
- 28:52Speaker 2: the frapes o god, I mean literally like they showed
- 28:56Speaker 2: up and a lot of them showed up to a
- 28:59Speaker 2: five because again that was where the pretty girls were,
- 29:03Speaker 2: and I didn't get asked to go to the mixer.
- 29:06Speaker 2: So the greatest day of me getting into eighty five
- 29:08Speaker 2: was like, you should have chosen the nice girls sorority.
- 29:12Speaker 2: That's where the nice boys went. Well, I mean it
- 29:14Speaker 2: sounds now looking back at it, it's just so so sad,
- 29:17Speaker 2: But like, I don't know how the boys damper on
- 29:20Speaker 2: your BID day.
- 29:21Speaker 1: I know, I have to say bid day was probably
- 29:28Speaker 1: like one of the best days. Really, we yes because
- 29:32Speaker 1: we ran home, We ran home and I ran home
- 29:35Speaker 1: to CTA.
- 29:36Speaker 4: It was so fun.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I mean, the older girls were sneaking me drinks even
- 29:40Speaker 1: though they weren't supposed to. We were having so much
- 29:43Speaker 1: fun and just dancing, and then we went out after
- 29:47Speaker 1: and those are the times where I was like, Okay,
- 29:50Speaker 1: this was worth it joining us sorority, these times in
- 29:53Speaker 1: these memories and getting a little and.
- 29:56Speaker 4: The big little process and all so fun. All those little.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Events like that where you genuinely were with your sorority
- 30:04Speaker 1: sisters and yet consumed by like other things.
- 30:08Speaker 4: That's the stuff that was super fun.
- 30:09Speaker 2: And there is I think so much. There's so many positives, right,
- 30:13Speaker 2: like going to school, especially when's it's big, and having
- 30:17Speaker 2: this group of sisters and having it fat, having that
- 30:20Speaker 2: happen fast, and then all of these events and all
- 30:24Speaker 2: of these mixers and matches and like immediately you have
- 30:28Speaker 2: this immediate social life and I guess you also write.
- 30:31Speaker 3: And it's so much like closer with people. I feel
- 30:34Speaker 3: like too in ways, like you become a little like
- 30:36Speaker 3: a family.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I know you do.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Any pledging process going through.
- 30:40Speaker 4: That, that's crazy. We definitely have to talk about that.
- 30:43Speaker 1: But that also, you know, it's true, especially going to
- 30:47Speaker 1: a bigger school, it does give you that sense of
- 30:51Speaker 1: it kind of makes the how the school, how do
- 30:55Speaker 1: I say this, It makes this.
- 30:57Speaker 4: This huge school feel a little smaller.
- 31:00Speaker 1: So I mean, I have to say Rutgers is massive.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I think I knew every single person in Greek life.
- 31:07Speaker 1: The school felt so small. I saw the same people
- 31:10Speaker 1: every time I went out, every time I went to
- 31:12Speaker 1: the bars, same faces, And Rutgers is huge. I should
- 31:16Speaker 1: have been seeing a different face every time I went out,
- 31:19Speaker 1: same people.
- 31:20Speaker 4: H Yeah, I think that's why I got a little
- 31:22Speaker 4: old too.
- 31:23Speaker 2: But well, I think if you asked me, everybody at
- 31:26Speaker 2: the University of Texas at Austin is Jewish. Let me
- 31:28Speaker 2: assure you that that is not the case. But it
- 31:31Speaker 2: felt like everybody there was Jewish, and all of my
- 31:37Speaker 2: friends and all of the boys and everyone, and it
- 31:39Speaker 2: which is such a it's such a strange thing. But
- 31:42Speaker 2: because like you, we were a meshed We hung out together,
- 31:46Speaker 2: you know, all the time.
- 31:48Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, guys, this is just the beginning of Dirty Rush.
- 31:51Speaker 3: We're gonna take you through the good, the bad, the ugly,
- 31:54Speaker 3: all the lingo, everything you need to know.
- 31:57Speaker 5: It's gonna get really juicy.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, and sororities have been around for like one
- 32:02Speaker 2: hundred and fifty years, so we have a lot to cover.
- 32:07Speaker 2: And certainly it's a different experience now than when I rushed,
- 32:11Speaker 2: and I'm guessing was very different one hundred and fifty
- 32:13Speaker 2: years ago as well. But I don't think we'll find
- 32:15Speaker 2: anyone to talk about that. But you guys, I don't know.
- 32:19Speaker 2: I've never heard anyone or any program or podcast really
- 32:24Speaker 2: diving into this subject matter, right, like really getting into
- 32:28Speaker 2: it and in terms of like the good, the bad,
- 32:31Speaker 2: the ugly. And I know a lot of mothers and
- 32:35Speaker 2: their daughters who are now going through it, have been
- 32:37Speaker 2: through it. There's a lot to cover right, so.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Much to cover, and we are so excited to tell
- 32:44Speaker 1: you guys our stories and really dive deep into what
- 32:47Speaker 1: all of this really means. But we're even more excited
- 32:50Speaker 1: to hear your stories, so make sure to leave a
- 32:53Speaker 1: voicemail leave your questions at our hotline eight four four
- 32:57Speaker 1: two seven eight Rush again eight four four to seven
- 33:01Speaker 1: eight rush and you guys can share all of your stories.
- 33:05Speaker 1: This is going to be totally anonymous, and we are
- 33:07Speaker 1: so excited to really get into this.
- 33:09Speaker 2: I'm hoping some of you fiys from Texas call in
- 33:11Speaker 2: please and.

- 33:16Speaker 4: the tea.
- 33:18Speaker 2: So, guys, until next time, just please be your amazing cells.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Sisterhood starts with those first steps, my sisters. I'm thrilled
- 33:27Speaker 2: to do this with you, my very little little sisters.
- 33:31Speaker 2: We're gonna have fun, you guys, this.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Is so fun. Episode one done you guys back
