- 0:00Speaker 1: I slugged into everything New York. Mark Simone on sevent
- 0:04Speaker 1: ten w Well, Scott Shannon, the radio legend, the greatest
- 0:10Speaker 1: living d Jamie. This guy, the greatest program director. You know.
- 0:14Speaker 1: This guy created the Morning Zoo, He created Z one hundred,
- 0:17Speaker 1: he created all sorts of stuff. Number one morning man
- 0:20Speaker 1: in New York for decades. He's still on the air
- 0:22Speaker 1: on the True Oldies channel. And he's with us now.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Scott Shannon, how you doing?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Happy to be here with Mark Simone, the always napper
- 0:32Speaker 2: radio rapper, the wor powerhouse Jock.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I never liked that term, jock. You like it, right, Jock?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't mind. I remember when I first came
- 0:43Speaker 2: to New York and my friend Ross Britton was with
- 0:47Speaker 2: me on and I picked him up because he had
- 0:52Speaker 2: been let loose by WABC radio. Yeah, they were doing
- 0:56Speaker 2: talk radio. Remember when they did talk radio?
- 0:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I was on their back now.
- 1:03Speaker 2: And then. But he used to say, don't call me
- 1:06Speaker 2: a DJ. I'm talent here in New York. You're not
- 1:10Speaker 2: a jockey or talent. I said, no, no, your talent.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I'm a freaking DJ. And don't you He'll forget it,
- 1:18Speaker 2: by the way. Yeah, oh, he had an agent and everything.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I didn't know what I was doing. I just stumbled
- 1:26Speaker 2: in from Tampa and got pretty lucky, I guess. But
- 1:30Speaker 2: last night the iHeart Radio Music Awards in Hollywood, and
- 1:36Speaker 2: of course you know who the big winner was, Gilbert O.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Sullivan.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Taylor swelled, Oh yeah, yeah, well but but wait a minute.
- 1:46Speaker 2: She really shook the place up when she showed up
- 1:50Speaker 2: for the first time at any awards, bank winner, any
- 1:53Speaker 2: awards ceremonies. She had her fiance Travis Kelcey with her.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Oh I think we have the clip. Wait a minute,
- 2:00Speaker 1: and probably also feels very happy and confident and free
- 2:03Speaker 1: because that's the way that I get to feel every
- 2:06Speaker 1: single day of my life because of my fiance.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Who's here to That's a pretty good endorsement for Travis.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Huh yeah, well, one career ending, another one starting.
- 2:19Speaker 2: But he makes me feel free. It's pretty good. That
- 2:26Speaker 2: was the first time they have ever appeared at, you know,
- 2:29Speaker 2: one of those ceremonies.
- 2:30Speaker 1: How long do you give this marriage?
- 2:34Speaker 2: I think it's since you know, I'm on the positive side,
- 2:37Speaker 2: I think they'll be fine. I mean, I mean, he
- 2:43Speaker 2: when before he met her, he was a real goofball
- 2:46Speaker 2: and Playboy, and he kind of calmed down quite a bit.
- 2:50Speaker 2: And hey, he's got Taylor and they're going to get
- 2:53Speaker 2: married and it's gonna hopefully they'll live happily ever after him.
- 2:57Speaker 2: But she got seven awards last night, the most anybody
- 3:01Speaker 2: ever got. And I don't know, maybe I don't know
- 3:04Speaker 2: how many. I don't know how many, you know, heavy
- 3:07Speaker 2: competitors she was up against.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But the big.
- 3:09Speaker 2: News in the music world is a new Paul McCartney album.
- 3:14Speaker 2: This one's a little bit different than the ones he's
- 3:18Speaker 2: done before, because this time he goes back in time
- 3:21Speaker 2: and talks about himself and meeting John Lennon and the
- 3:27Speaker 2: fact that they grew up together. The name of the
- 3:29Speaker 2: albums The Boys of Dungeon Lane, and it's all about
- 3:34Speaker 2: meeting together and sticking together writing all those songs. And
- 3:38Speaker 2: he's got fourteen tracks on this album. You can get
- 3:42Speaker 2: away with nine or ten easily these days, but he's
- 3:45Speaker 2: got fourteen tracks. Comes out May twenty ninth, and the
- 3:49Speaker 2: first single from the album is kind of like snuck out.
- 3:55Speaker 2: It's called the Days We Left Behind. Here's a little
- 3:59Speaker 2: clip problem you like it?
- 4:02Speaker 1: Here he is.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Glad you like it.
- 4:05Speaker 1: That's McCartney playing right, so far, so good.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it flashes back, but I mean it's
- 4:12Speaker 2: got it's got a great theme to it, and it's
- 4:17Speaker 2: you know, it's him kind of I guess, pouring forth
- 4:21Speaker 2: about him growing up when they were kids, and I
- 4:25Speaker 2: don't know, you saw the the series where he took back.
- 4:29Speaker 2: He went back and showed everybody where he lived and
- 4:32Speaker 2: some of the pubs he would sing in and all
- 4:35Speaker 2: that kind of thing. I think this is going to
- 4:38Speaker 2: be probably the best album he's done in a few years.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Well all right, but he didn't set the bar very
- 4:44Speaker 1: high album wise in the last few years. And I
- 4:46Speaker 1: don't mean I'm not picking on him. It's just when
- 4:48Speaker 1: you're the superstar legend Elder Statesman Mick Jagger, Billy Joel
- 4:53Speaker 1: Paul McCartney, you can tour the world and it's incredible,
- 4:56Speaker 1: but you're not going to have hit albums anymore, are you? No?
- 4:59Speaker 2: You know now, That's what I remember. Billy actually told
- 5:03Speaker 2: me this when uh he was talking to Elton John
- 5:08Speaker 2: and and and Elton John's I'm busy working on my
- 5:11Speaker 2: new album, Billy and Billy said, once you just open
- 5:14Speaker 2: up the window and piss out and throw all your
- 5:17Speaker 2: money out the window. He said, no, you know, he said,
- 5:20Speaker 2: people want to hear our old songs, Elton and you know,
- 5:27Speaker 2: and that's how that's how most you see people like
- 5:30Speaker 2: you know, def Leopard, they work hard. They put this
- 5:33Speaker 2: new album out. He probably didn't even know without there,
- 5:35Speaker 2: did you.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Paul McCartney, Where is this going to get played? This album?
- 5:42Speaker 2: He doesn't need. No, they're not going to play it
- 5:45Speaker 2: on Z one hundred and it's not an oldie so
- 5:48Speaker 2: you can't play it on my network. But you know,
- 5:50Speaker 2: I'll play it a couple of times and enjoy it,
- 5:52Speaker 2: and I hope it turns out. You know, like you said,
- 5:56Speaker 2: he's Paul McCartney. He's going to sell albums. There's no
- 5:58Speaker 2: doubt about it. That's that's and this is good. And
- 6:01Speaker 2: he's really working on a marketing this one because it's very
- 6:06Speaker 2: special to him. And you can get it, get it
- 6:09Speaker 2: in vinyl. He's got seven different color vinyl albums you
- 6:14Speaker 2: can order. Okay, I know, don't pick your color, all right,
- 6:20Speaker 2: So tell you So you're down with Paul.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Somebody should tell him. Maybe it's twenty twenty six, maybe
- 6:26Speaker 1: tell him let him know.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I will you know what. I think it's going
- 6:30Speaker 2: to be a number one album. I really do.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Well, you're the expert. Hey, the right, Great, that's yesterday.
- 6:38Speaker 2: That was crazy.
- 6:39Speaker 1: People have messed up the national anthem before, but this
- 6:42Speaker 1: guy is a big Broadway star. To be on Broadway
- 6:45Speaker 1: every night, you've got to be good at memorizing lyrics.
- 6:47Speaker 1: What happened?
- 6:48Speaker 2: He was George? I think he played George Washington, didn't he?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 6:52Speaker 2: I think that Christopher Jackson his name. He's got a
- 6:54Speaker 2: Tony on his mantel at home, and he's he's he
- 6:59Speaker 2: didn't lanthem at the Yankees before. He knows what he's doing.
- 7:04Speaker 2: But he had a little bit of a glitch at
- 7:07Speaker 2: City Field. Here's what it sounded like.
- 7:09Speaker 1: What's so proudly? We had the twilight last?
- 7:16Speaker 2: To me?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Who sprawl strives, hand rides, stars through the pap Fine,
- 7:29Speaker 1: what's so proudly? Wors gyre? Crowd booing a little there?
- 7:41Speaker 2: So well, I got to tell you something. He came.
- 7:45Speaker 2: He really handled it well. He he talked to TMS Sports.
- 7:51Speaker 2: He said that will not keep him from doing the
- 7:54Speaker 2: national anthem in the future. He said, I've done the
- 7:57Speaker 2: national anthem countless times. And stadiums around the country. Today
- 8:03Speaker 2: was a beautiful opening day, and I was thrilled to
- 8:05Speaker 2: be there. He said. Look, he says, I'm human, but
- 8:10Speaker 2: I won't hesitate to step up to a microphone and
- 8:12Speaker 2: pay tribute to those that we honor with the anthem.
- 8:16Speaker 2: So you know it does happen.
- 8:19Speaker 1: He played George Washington and Hamilton, but in his defense,
- 8:22Speaker 1: when George Washington was present, there was no national anthem.
- 8:24Speaker 1: It wasn't written until years later.
- 8:27Speaker 2: But he's not really George.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well that's true.
- 8:32Speaker 2: But I gotta tell you the greatest story that I've
- 8:35Speaker 2: seen in a long time happened what last week? It
- 8:41Speaker 2: was a guy the Quadra is a quadruple amputee who
- 8:46Speaker 2: happens to also be a professional corn hole player. What
- 8:52Speaker 2: he Yeah, you mustn't missed this Dayton Weber. He's like
- 8:57Speaker 2: twenty seven years old. He's got no arms and no
- 8:59Speaker 2: lab and he hadn't had him. He had some kind
- 9:03Speaker 2: of fever when he was a kid, and an infection
- 9:05Speaker 2: and all that. They took off his arms and legs.
- 9:08Speaker 2: But he doesn't let that stop him. He actually goes
- 9:12Speaker 2: to the firing range. He can shoot a gun. He
- 9:16Speaker 2: plays cornhole. He loves it. But Sunday night in Maryland,
- 9:21Speaker 2: he was riding along, right, He's driving the damn car.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Remember he's got no arms and no lady. He's driving
- 9:28Speaker 2: the car. He's got a guy riding shotgun, two guys
- 9:32Speaker 2: in the back seat. Somehow he got into an argument
- 9:36Speaker 2: with the guy in the front seat with him. He
- 9:39Speaker 2: pulled out a gun and shoots him while he's driving
- 9:42Speaker 2: down the road. He kills him. So so.
- 9:47Speaker 1: A car with. What does he drive the car with?
- 9:49Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe he's driving a Tesla. I don't know,
- 9:53Speaker 2: one of those self drive cars. But listen to this.
- 9:55Speaker 2: He pulls over. The two guys in the backseat are
- 9:59Speaker 2: all ready to their pants. He just shot a guy.
- 10:03Speaker 2: He murdered a guy in the front seat. He tells
- 10:05Speaker 2: him to get out and take the body with him.
- 10:09Speaker 2: They said, no, tell you what. We're going to get out,
- 10:11Speaker 2: but we're not taking the body. They take off running
- 10:15Speaker 2: and I don't know how long they ran, but they
- 10:19Speaker 2: ran into a cop car and he thought they told
- 10:22Speaker 2: them what was going on. Now. This is Dayton Weber.
- 10:26Speaker 2: The guy he shot was Braderick Michael Wells twenty seven
- 10:31Speaker 2: Bout twenty seven and then what happened. I don't know
- 10:35Speaker 2: how he did this either. He pulled into a residential
- 10:39Speaker 2: area and somehow managed to get the body out of
- 10:42Speaker 2: the front seat into some guy's yard.
- 10:46Speaker 1: All right, sounds like an episode of Breaking Bad. Sounds
- 10:49Speaker 1: like Walter White Waiter.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Wait minu, it's not over yet. He keeps driving. He
- 10:55Speaker 2: drives the Charlottesville, Virgini and no one's caught him yet.
- 10:58Speaker 2: He checked in and check it, and he went into
- 11:01Speaker 2: the emergency room at the hospital. He needed treatment for something.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I don't know what it was, and that's where the
- 11:07Speaker 2: cops got him. But I mean, think about that just
- 11:11Speaker 2: for a second. It's hard to even drive a car.
- 11:14Speaker 2: And then he shoots a guy and then he pulled
- 11:17Speaker 2: him out of the car and dumps him in somebody's yard.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Unbelievable. Hey, Scott Shannon, we're out of time. We'll have
