- 0:07[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the Dog's Podcast with your hosts, Lake Renaker, Justin Charles, and Josh All.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, what's up, Browns fans?
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to another episode of The Dogs Podcast.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Josh, all your hosts today, and I've got the annual tradition kicking off on this episode.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's right, it's time for Dogs by Nature Stafferator Barry Schuck.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: To join the show and tell us all about the prospects that he saw that he
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: charted, scouted, followed at the senior ball in Mobile last week.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: Barry does this every year.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's down there all the time.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said in the episode the other day, we were supposed to be at the senior ball for the first time this year and Furn came and F. That up and yeah, so we didn't go, but Barry of course was there coming up from Florida.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't get Furn down there, but you know, he floored a people.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: You guys got it so good.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: Got it so good.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: We're up here at zero negative 15 win show all that kind of stuff.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's great.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I digress.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: I quit complaining because it's time to dive into these prospects.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: With Barry Shuck today, again, these episodes go along.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: My conversations with Barry So I'm breaking it down into two parts.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: Today will be the offense.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: minus quarterbacks because we table that discussion for the end.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: So today we'll be wider severs offensive line and tight ends positions that the Browns really need to address this offseason then on the next episode make sure you guys stay tuned for that.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be the defensive side of the ball, D-line, we're going to talk linebackers, defensive, secondary, and then of course we're going to be talking about some quarter button, nothing crazy for the Browns obviously because this draft isn't flush with the quarterback position but
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: We will have that discussion and then we talk a little bit of Todd Munkin in that one as well.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: So stay tuned for that before.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: We kick it over to Barry.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: Remember you guys join the dogs.com if you want to be part of the dog pack.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Get in there.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: The discord community is popping all the time and it's going to get even more active as we go into the free agent period, draft season, all this stuff.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a great place to be to get your thoughts and opinions out there and discuss these things with like mind brownspans.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's join the dogs.com.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: Let's kick it over now.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: No more to be said.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's time for my conversation with Barry Schuck.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: All right, everybody.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said in the intro, I am joined.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: Special guest Barry Schuck dogs by nature.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: Staff writer was down last week at the Senior Bone Mobile and he's here as always every year at this point in time to share his takeaways, his observations.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: The notes he took down there about all these players at the Senior Bowl.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: Barry, how are you doing today?
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: I am doing great.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's where I'm living.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's 58 degrees and you know, I wish everybody could be wearing flip flops and shorts today, but unfortunately everybody has to do with this podcast.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: It is just me.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, uh, there will be no flip flops and shorts on my end.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: It is still very cold up north here very down there in Florida.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: You lucky son of a gun you.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so I guess real quick before we start diving into prospect is overall take away from the senior role.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: How was the week.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: How things go.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: It was cold.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: That'd be the first and foremost.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: It was cold.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: It was 30s all week with breezy every day.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: Then it got to the 50s and then when the Friday night, a cold front came through.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: So for the game, which started at 2.30 a.m. Easter time.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: It was really, really cold.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: The win was in the 20s, but it was good.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: The quarterbacks this year were not a lead.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Last year we had Jackson Dart, we had Dylan Gabriel with Jalen Millrow, we had Tottershuck,
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: and it was the whole story last year was about the quarterbacks.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: This year the quarterbacks weren't phenomenal at all.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: The bell the ball was Garrett Newsmyer from LSU.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: He ended up being the games MVP yet a great week.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the story was Diego Pavia.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: uh... and the only reason he was a story is because his media guide listed him at two o seven six foot one and and the first thing you do on sunday here to think about is a measure everything on a guy hand hips ties you name it and he measured out at five foot nine and seven eights which is five can
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: and a hundred ninety eight pounds and me standing next to him, you know, I'm I'm five eleven.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not much taller than hardly any quarterbacks, but I was taller than you know.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: But the defensive line really balled out.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: The defensive line was extremely strong this year.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: And some guys that I didn't realize were as good as they were, some guys that were projected to be fourth and fifth rounders.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think now we'll be taking in the second.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Guys that were top of the second.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: Now we're gonna be mid first round.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: And that was the story of it.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then what I do at the senior bowl is I take a list of what the Browns need.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: They don't need a quarterback in my eyes.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: They don't need to running back in my eyes.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't talk to those people.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't make hardly any notes about those people.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: So we don't need a safety.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't believe.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: But a position that,
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: We probably don't need his corner back, but yet there were some cornerbacks that balled out.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm never opposed to taking a shutdown corner, a pass rush into fence event.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, what we need more than anything is all if it's flying to receivers.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I was able to kind of focus on the offensive line a lot.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: I found a lot of good guys that'll be in the second and third round.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: I wish there was somebody, now this is just guys that showed up for the senior ball, then mean there's not going to be an offensive line, but it's six in the first round or 24 in the first round.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying who showed up and who participated in the senior ball.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: the word any guys that will fit those spots.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: And that's another thing I do.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I look at where the the browns are going to draft and I don't try to focus my attention on a guy.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if a guy is projected to be 15 or 16,
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: What does that have to do with us?
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, are we going to reach for him at six by the time we draft a 24.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's definitely gone.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I didn't focus on any of those other guys.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: And that's just kind of my strategy of how I deal with the signal.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like that strategy.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's a very similar strategy when I do like a mock draft, right?
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: The Browns, I look at the consensus mock draft board and I think, okay, this is where we're picking these are the guys and you say kind of within like five spots before or after that that pick to kind of see who could realistically be available there.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's great what you do and just for everybody out there again, like,
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Barry's not down at the senior bowl, scouting everybody because he's a fantasy analyst.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: And he needs to, you know, have every position in every player.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: No, he's down there specifically with the Browns in mind.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why his feedback on these players is so valuable to this show and to this fan base because that's what we care about.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: We care about the Browns.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: What are the Browns going to do?
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: What can they do?
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: Who can come in here and help this team?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: And like you said, the kind of kick things off will start at the two most important positions.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: in my opinion and what you just said as well for the Browns this year to focus on and get right.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: Is that offensive line and wider silver group?
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: So why don't we start with the sexy position?
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start with the wider severs and give me the first name that you want to highlight at wider silver from the senior ball.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: Ted Hurst.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Georgia State now number one, when I got down there, I had no idea who dead hers was.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: I had no idea where Georgia State was.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: I knew it looked D2 or D3 school.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: It is in Atlanta.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: I found it out later.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: Ted Hers is 6307 runs a 4.48 in the 40.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: interview wise he's not a great interview but on the field
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: phenomenal hands, phenomenal jumping ability that that first step off the snap is just explosive and it gets him in his routstem pretty quickly.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: And really what it does is that forces defensive backs to respect his vertical threat almost immediately.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: And he is a deep threat guy.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: He can absolutely fly.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's not big body, but he's tall.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: He's got a long
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: He looked, they had him at all three receiver spots during the week and when I say by having them, they do a bunch of drills with receivers once called the one-on-ones.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's where they'll have a receiver and a defensive back, whether it be a cornerback or a safety.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: and it could be a tidy and or a receiver.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: And they just do a route with a quarterback.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: And there's nobody rushing, there's no blocking, there's none of that.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: They just do 101, but they don't do it all day.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: They just, the receiver goes down.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: He makes his, his cut, they throw it to it.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: And that happened just repeatedly.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: And because there's an odd, they do this on purpose.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: They do an odd number.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: So you're not always against the same guy each time.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: he just dominated in the one on once and what the senior ball does is half the first round and half the second round last year played in the senior ball.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was like 104 guys that were in the senior ball ended up being drafted last year.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: So what they do is they pick some of the the best defensive players and offensive players and bring them to this game
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: uh... he just dominated on the one-on-one's uh... but he looked real comfortable in all three receiving spots i don't seem as a slot receiver uh... they did have him catch some passes anything they do is what's called seven own sevens and
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: that's where you just have seven players against seven players without any really rushing without any blocking on it.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: Just to do passing drills and coverage, then they do 11-0-11, and that's usually there's two padded days and they allow live hitting on Wednesday and Thursday.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: and they focus on hitting and it's like live action except for hitting the quarterback and hitting the return man.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: But Ted Hearst, I think his ball skills just kind of jump off the screen and he's got consistent track inability downfield and
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: looking at his blocking.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's a willing blocker down field because he's got a big body.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's able to handle that.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: And he uses that six foot three frame intelligently on contested catches.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: Ted Hearst is a guy that I learned about maybe a month ago, three weeks ago, something like that haven't done a like a deep dive or anything like that, just a name that I've been mentioning here and there on the podcast and social media is like, just keep an eye on this guy, Ted Hearst.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: And to hear you say that coming from this small school into this seniorable was essentially all star game where like you said, it's the best defensive players.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: the best senior defense players from around the nation are here and he's coming up from the small school nobody knows who he is and he's dominating those guys at that level to me that's a huge leap from looking at his stats and looking at his projections to actually seeing what he can do against that top competition for anybody wondering I got I do have stats
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: This past season 71 catches for $999 just one simple little yard shy of $1,000 and he had six touchdowns.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm very intrigued by that hurts.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad you brought him up.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and like I said, he came from a small school and other small school guy was a turn in Montgomery.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, okay, he came from John Carroll.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have many notes on him, but he pretty much dominated.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's 5, 11, 190, but he was those two guys because they came from small schools.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: They were just everywhere.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: They were making acrobatic catches.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: This episode is sponsored by Surfshark VPN.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Frowns fans, I know I can't be the only one.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: Have you ever searched something random like, I don't know how to make French toast and suddenly you're getting ads for all kinds of different recipes?
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, me too.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's a bit scary how much the internet seems to know about me these days.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: Thankfully, today's sponsor Surfshark VPN can help us out with that.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: A VPN is a virtual private network which allows me to mask my real IP address.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's like putting a guardian cap on my online data, essentially meaning that my activity online is safe
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you ever wonder just how much of your personal identity is floating around online, every click, every scroll, every late night, mock draft that you do, all of it can be logged, tracked and sold, with Surfshark, all that data stays yours.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: When I've connected Surfshark and Crips, everything I do online, so even my internet provider or Nose Advertisers can't see what I'm up to, it's like finally being able to shut the blinds on your digital life total privacy, total control, and honestly, it's a relief knowing I can browse freely without constantly worrying who's watching.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: And this is a big one for me Surfshark does not keep logs, like at all that means even if someone wanted to see what I've been up to online, there's literally nothing to show them.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: Most people don't realize this, but some VPNs do keep records of your activity, which kind of defeats the point of privacy, right?
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: Surfshark's strict no logs policy means they don't monitor track or store any of your browsing data.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's like wiping your digital footprints clean the second you take a step.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: I find that so reassuring knowing that what I do online stays my business and no one else is.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: And Surfshark has other great products like their anti-virus add-on.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: We tend to think viruses are a laptop problem, but they can hit phones, tablets, anything, really.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's why Surfshark anti-virus is such a smart add-on.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's built right into the app and runs quietly in the background protecting against malware, Trojans, and all that nasty stuff that can sneak in from downloads or dodgy sites.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: I love that I don't need a separate anti-virus subscription Surfshark just handles it.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's one less thing to worry about, and one more reason I feel properly covered online.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: So start protecting your online identity today with Surfshark.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: You can try it right now with a risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee go to surfshark.com slash dogs DAWGS or use code dogs at checkout to get four extra months of Surfshark VPN.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: Link and code are in the description.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: Surfshark.com slash dogs code dogs.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: Six foot four, 218 runs of 4.5 in the 40.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody was better than fields all, from practice one to practice two to practice three.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, everybody had their moment, everybody has their day, but fields was there all three days as being a reliable target.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's got overwhelming size to speed combination.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and he's got enough functional athleticism to separate and threaten defenses vertically despite his average, uh, his speed.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: On natural hands, soft hands, um, he really, really good at the, uh, high point, knows one to job, knows where the high point is on the catch point.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: And because of his size, he's six foot four.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's able to out jump, a lot of these DBs, a lot of DBs are 5-11, 6-foot, maybe 6-1.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: So he's already got a height differential on him, and then just his leap in ability.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: All right, God.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: He just, just,
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: get up there.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: He is downright nasty when it goes up and contest on catches.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: Use his body, uses his elbow, uses his hands.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: He shows advanced understanding of leverage.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: Against man to man coverage, it's senior ball they don't do a lot of zone except in the game.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: uh... so it's a lot of man on man and he does transition they they used to look quite a bit on some jet sweeps he does treat uh... transition smoothly from being a receiver to a runner and he's got really surprisingly wiggled and strength after the catch
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: Malachi fields was another guy that obviously he made a lot of headlines at the senior board.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: It was in the game, right?
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: Where you had the big catch.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to remember that correctly.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, Malachi fields Tedhurst, when you're looking at these guys as potential options for the Browns, where are you projecting them to go in the draft, especially after the senior board with what pick are you looking at them for the Browns?
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I didn't see Ted Hurst on any, any big board.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: So we're talking about day three free agent.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'd put him fourth round now.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: He will definitely fields could.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: He came into the senior ball as a late third rounder.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: He could wiggle himself into the second round now.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's, uh, both of these guys have been, have been definitely interesting risers here through the process.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: So, so for the Browns, if, if they took the number six pick, and let's say that there's not an office, you pack all there.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: If they took an edge rush or instead, um, and then at the 24th pick, if they took their offensive line in there, they could conceivably take fields in the, with their first, uh, pick in the second round.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: OK. That's interesting.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't like to take care of the edge Russia office of Lyman receiver, then they could do the best player available at all their picks.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's true.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: I know there's been some argument over best player available strategy versus drafting for need, which it's tough because when you're the Browns and you've got all these premium positions of desperate need, it's kind of tough to just take best player available and then continue to leave those positions that you really need to fill.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: kind of a week because we saw that.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I believe in bless best player available.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people think that you have to draft for need, but let's just say that that we've got Quenchon Judkins.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say we got Nick job and Nick job is the old Nick job.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: So we're good on running back, right?
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: And let's say that this is the draft that we're picking six and Barry Sanders is in the draft.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: Emotions in the draft Eric Dickerson's in the draft.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: Do you just say, well, hey, we're good at running back.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: Why don't we need another run in back?
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you take Barry Sanders?
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then worry about whether Juttkins or Nick Chubb is the one that gets the pink slip.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's the way I look at it, the same thing we'll quarterback.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: You say, hey, we're good, we'll call it a bad, we've got Dishon, we got Shidorah, we got Dilling Gabriel.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: But here's Joe Montana, here's Dan Moreno.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, do you just pass on those guys because you're good at the position?
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: I believe in both best player available.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I would do my strategy.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: Or if you're good at, especially a position like quarterback where you know some other team who's not set at quarterback could be vying for that pick, that's where you would put it out there on the trade table and say, hey.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: He want this guy come up and get him, but what are you going to give me for that tech?
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: I did an interview with Ernie Corsi and he was a GM of the Browns.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: He was a GM of the cults when they drafted John L. way and I asked him, I said, why did you, John L. way said, I'm not coming to Baltimore.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: Why did you draft him?
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: He said, well, he's got market value.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: He said, he may not ever play for us, but he's going to play for somebody.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to get whatever comes with that.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: And sure enough, that's what happened.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: They ended up trading him to the Denver Broncos.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: A course he was with the Giants when he drafted or not drafted, but traded for Eli Manning, who was the first overall pick of the Chargers.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: And he traded for him.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then, of course, a course he is the one that draft a Bernie Cose are.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: So he's had three huge quarterbacks in his life that he's been a part of.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, I guess we look at it that way too.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: The Browns sorted at the same thing last year in the draft.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they had already taken Dillon Gabor on the third round.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then they doubled up the position in the fifth round.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: We should work standards was still sitting there in Andrew Barry's like, this is the positional value of getting this guy in the fifth round.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: I just can't pass it up.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: So that's going to have that whole situation played out.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: Um, okay, so that would, I guess that kind of does it here for these wider severs.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: Now, let's shift over to the trenches because, okay, another big debate, obviously, when Browns are fans are talking about these first round picks, do you go offensive line first, do you go receiver first, what do you do?
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: We need to build up the line and all this.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, at the senior bowl, who were the offensive lineman that you saw that you think could be in play for the Browns?
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: Let me ask you some Josh.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think we need a center?
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that they're going to re-sign anything pose it?
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think the re-sign anything pose like no.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because, you know, the last time they did an extension with him, they did it during the season before the season ended.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: He was on a one-year deal.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then they gave him a three-year contract.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I haven't heard anything about an extension on that.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and I think Luke Wypler, they're wanting him to play guard, even though he is a true center from Ohio
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: Unless there's an emergency situation, it's like last year with post it got hurt in the final game.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't move Whipler from guard to center.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: They brought in Zach Zinter and he played center.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there was Whipler to be to be guard.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see that?
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: I did not see that.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: No, I was as far as my future projection for the line.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: I've been using Whiplier, but I've been using them more as like, well, maybe he could be the center.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: I know he can play guard.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't aware that they were, I guess, preferring him to play guard, but that's interesting.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: Especially now with the new and entirely new offensive staff coming in new online coach will see what their preferences for a guy like that.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: My guy in free ages, see I'm hoping the Browns are somehow able to lure Tyler Lindervom to Cleveland now getting Todd Munkin and the online coach and the run game coordinators, the OC all these guys from Baltimore, maybe it'll be more enticing for a guy like Lindervom and we put enough money in his, you know, in his bank account, maybe he'll come here.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's the way it worked.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I found the center of the senior bow whose name is Jake Slotter he's from the University of Florida, 64305, intelligent guy, very well-spoken.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: I can tell he could be an eternity.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: He wouldn't, a journey of the wind's so big.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: I would say that he's got surgical pass protection technique.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: He is just a brute of a man.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: He demonstrated some severe level mental processing when diagnosing blisses.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's senior ball, they blitz some.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: They don't blitz a whole lot.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: They don't do any stunts.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: because it's only a week and you got guys for four or five, six days, but he does exhibit a powerful initial punch in the run-bocking and he had excellent timing that consistently would kind of overpowered defenders backwards, which created an immediate vertical displacement that translated directly to the running game and to the ground attack.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, he's a very pleasant guy off the field, but on the field, he's nasty.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely nasty.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: He, he doesn't care.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't care who you are.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't care what decals on your, your helmet.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, he brought exceptional movement skills.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: uh... encounters and traps and he he demonstrated loose hips and natural balance i think that would be a great guide to bring in i'm going to say round four uh... to to play for uh... for the center position uh... we got to do something and uh... like said i don't take white plur white plur is the answer to the center position
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: but it didn't seem like now of course the new coach you staff may look at it different.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: But it didn't seem like that they wanted why player to play center and Zack Zener I think he's got one foot out the door.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't liked it.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah and let's build Calhine.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: You come back.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: Build Calhine comes back.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: Zener will be a good project.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: and a good backup guard.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: But he looks like he's got one foot out the door.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: They just have it seem to want to use him and he just has a develop like they thought they that he would.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there are the only ways inter's getting call a hand to coach him as if we trade him down to Atlanta.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I have not, I've been very disappointed with Zack's center for the draft, you know, third or third round pick that we used on Zack's center.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, you know, at the time, it's like, let's get this guy in here.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: We need some young, up-and-coming developmental alignment to eventually start for these older guys that are facing out just hasn't been that dude.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: So you got Jake Slotter and who's next on your list for offensive line?
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: Um, my favorite guy in the entire senior bowl, Jennings Ducker.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's everybody's dude, man.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: I love that guy.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Six, five, three, 20.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm seeing pictures of him groomed.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like a nice young man, but it's a senior ball.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's got red hair.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's orange, excuse me.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: He got orange hair and it was long.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was after a practice.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: So he's sweaty, he's dirty, he's nasty.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: He smells like football.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: But if you have never been on a football field, football knows like grass and man sweat.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: That is the scent of football.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's why they haven't put it in an air-saw can and tried to sell it doors.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: His hair was long.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like a lumberjack.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: He looked like he just came off of a walking truck and just was walking up.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: You talk about an nasty guy.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: This guy is a horrible guy on the field as far as a temperament goes.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: Not a great interview, not very personal, not very nice, kind of to the point, not a lot of,
- 28:02[SPEAKER_00]: keep in the conversation going.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: I talked about his mom a little bit.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't want to talk about that.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think he just generates a lot of violent movement at the point of attack.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's got exceptional leg drive.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like his legs were just kind of stumps or just kind of cut off a huge leg drive.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: got upper body torque and it did consistently to places defenders in the run game.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: He was moving everybody in the one-on-ones.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: He was the one of two players that nobody ever got around.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: And the defensive line in the senior ball this year was top notch.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: Superior.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: And we're not talking about one guy stood out or two guys.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: I can name six seven eight guys that had great weeks.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: They just balled out.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody got past dinner.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, a dunker.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: Once he gets his hands and they land clean, his defenders locked in place.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: is got grip strength, and he's got the ability to steer blocks that are that were the besting in his in the senior ball of this week.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: And he plays with a nasty disposition.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: He just doesn't like anybody.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't like you.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't like you.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't like the one of the problems.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't like reporters.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's all football, huh?
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: he just off football.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: His anchor is sturdy enough to store bull rushes.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't get bull rush by anybody and he didn't give away any ground and I think his footwork timing is refined on angle blocks.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: Now, where did they have him lining up and playing primarily at the senior books?
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of outlets and sites have him listed as an offensive tackle.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: I've been reading more where he's probably going to end up moving into guard at the NFL level.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Where did you see him down there?
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: Well at Iowa he played right tackle his last year, but he had played in his freshman year he had played guard in high school he had played some guard he had played some tackle.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: But they had him at right tackle the first day and the rest of the week they had him at right guard.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I thought.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, from...
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: I know it's it's an easy comparison to make, but Brown's fans, we loved what Wyatt Teller brought to this team when he came out here at right guard and just the nasty mulling nature of his play style, you know, before things kind of tapered off here in the last year or two, I feel like getting a guy like Jennings Dunker, I know a lot of fans out there love this kid and what he could be for this offensive line, especially.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: with the coaching staff, Munkins bringing in here, it seems like there's going to be a heavy focus on establishing that run game, a power run game, and Jennings Dunker would be key to getting that going.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think he would play guard, even though he's big enough, he's big enough to replace Conco and over there right, right tackle, 65, 320 pound.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I'm not sure what they're going to do with teller.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure what's going to happen with Joe Bittonio is he going to retire.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: Conflins got a year on his contract.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_00]: But he's always hurt.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: Duan Jones has got two more years on his contract.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's played no one more year.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's played for us three years and he's been on our three years.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, for sure.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: We've been saying that on this show for months.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like we need all five new linemen most likely.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Doug, Dunker would take care of of a position, whether it's right guard or right tackle.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the kind of versatility plays to like I think Andrew Barry likes that in players where it's okay.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: I have a spot for you.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: But if I need you over here, we can do that.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, yeah, absolutely.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: The, my second favorite office of Lyman and I love office of Lyman.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: I like specialists and I like office of Lyman.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: Even though I played middle line back or in high school, I love office of Lyman.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: And specialists, they are the nicest people to talk to to interview.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: They like the attention.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: They'll say whatever you want, whatever question you got
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody else does that but all of them all of them are that way.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I'm going to have trouble with his last name, but his first name is Max and he went to Arizona State.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: It is I I hand a chore.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: And if I, if I bastardize that name for give me six foot six, three 25, he didn't even play high school football.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: He was a soccer and basketball player.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: He was an AAU, he originally came from Nigeria.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: I swear he grew up and he played soccer and basketball in Nigeria.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: He ended up in Los Angeles in an AAU program.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: told him that he should pursue football at the college level.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: He went to a jucco for two years.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: And then the jucco head coach got a job with Arizona State and brought him with him.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: He said, just trust me.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: just trust me.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: Come with me.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: And that was his story.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: So, and you would think, well, he's just, you know, he, he, of course is a freshman he didn't play much.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: And you'd think, well, he's only got three, three years underneath him.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: But this guy can block.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody, nobody bull rushed him.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody moved him.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's got awareness from soccer and basketball.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that created some instinctive understanding of especially like leverage points and body positioning.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's got grip strength.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_00]: He locks on the defenders like the deraivice.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: And he's got natural beat, excuse me, need bin and hit that, that sinks in that takes years for most Lyman to develop.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: He learns and he learns and he learns and he's say, what's, what's I'm taught at?
- 34:40[SPEAKER_00]: I learned extremely intelligent guy.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: accent that most guys have.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: He talked like a guy from the Midwest.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: That shot because I knew he's from Nigeria and I just expected that.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know a lot of guys just have that accent.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: his recovery athletic system will bail him out when he's beaten, shows nastiesness and he does fetish blocks through the whistle and I just think he's going to be a tremendous pick.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's going to be a second round pick.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was thinking.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's going to be a say, he came into the senior bowl of the fourth round or maybe maybe round five, but he is a solid second round pick.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: Now, whether that's in the middle of the round or top of it, but he was the best offensive tackle.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: If you take Dunker and categorize him as a guard,
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: a max was definitely the best office of tackle, and we're talking about there were plenty of office of tackle that balled out and showed out, but he was the best over all these, and really he's only got three years experience, so that was kind of surprising to me.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I knew we were going to talk about him and I meant to look it up how to pronounce his name before the show and I forgot but I just did so it's E. H. Notchore Max E. H. Notchore So we could just call him notchore.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know something to make it simple, but yeah, definitely impressable.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was reading and it's in the game and everything like from this from this kid So that's awesome that He was the best tackle there

- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, another good tackle was Jude Bowery from Boston College, six foot five, three hundred and fourteen pounds.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's got natural kick slide, Explosiveness, good, good gap strength, allows him to snatch and control defenders' hands.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: Once he latches on properly, really, really good, downblocker.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: hooking up root 5 tanks and maybe wash 4 tanks completely out of their gaps, like feet, natural ability, good zone blocker schemes, what else, strong anchor.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: uh... and he also showed excellent uh... suddenly when he came off the snap and uh... wide base with the sturdy frame i think he's going to be a third uh... a good solid third round pick he came in the senior ball of fourth round pick and i i definitely think he's he's going to slide up
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, great.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's a good name because that's somebody who I was actually just reading about this morning.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: I was doing a little draft prep research for some future episodes and things like that.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: So Jude Bowery was a guy that I did a little reading and he intrigued me on that.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: So it's good to know that you saw him and and felt the same thing.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: In my research with him a fan that he only allowed two facts all year.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: Those kind of numbers are definitely a welcomed stat for Browns fans after what we've watched the last couple seasons.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, do you know about the Feldman Freaks list?
- 39:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_00]: He made the 20-25 list.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's always good too.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, and the reason behind that is that he did five reps on back squats of 435 pounds.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_00]: Jeez.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, think about doing one rep. Yeah, I don't want to.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: My knees are already hurt.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I got to there.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: So, okay, so we've got Max EA not chore.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: I know I got to say that slowly.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: Jude Bowery and there was a third tackle.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: Was that correct?
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: Austin Bower, excuse me, Austin Barber.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's also floored up.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: He was a lot.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was a basketball player.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: When I first saw him at Media Day,
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was a basketball player.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know that he, I thought well, maybe he's a tie-it.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: Six foot seven.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now he is 318 pounds, but he is a very lean 380 pounds.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a lot of, a lot of office tackles are just that guys.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: They got the belly, they got the arms, and their thighs are just freaking huge.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_00]: But Barbara didn't, didn't look like that at all.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: He just looked lean and most standing there and the backpack on.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, let me figure out who this guy is first.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: In my notes, he's got exceptional lateral agility, which allows him to mirror speed rusher's.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: A speed rusher never got past him all week.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now, he has a little tendency to allow an inside move on him.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_00]: but he's got good arm length that allows him to connect, he played left tackle mostly at the senior bow.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's got that long arm, which allows him to connect the speed brush and at least put a hand on his pads to where he can start shove it into the outside.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_00]: And that created some early engagement opportunities
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: and he was able to control the point of attack with his hand combat sequences.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: Getting that hand on that is Russia is critical for an offensive tackle.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: If a guy is going to try to bend and lean on you and try to get around the outside corner of you.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: The idea is to just start pushing this guy and pushing him and pushing him.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's what Duan Jones does.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: He got such long arms.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: he just engages the guy and just pushes him deep, pushes him deep and pretty soon.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's way beyond the pocket and out of play and done that to worry about that.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: His barber's hand placement consistently, he will hit the chest plates regularly.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: He sustains his block, which is critical for an office to tackle.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he's got second level mobility.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: Once he pushes his guy and the play goes and the runner goes, he instantly takes off down field.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of guys like jet wells, but uh, we'll just stand there, you know, and watch the play like like he's got a front row seat.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Um,
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: He has, versatility, they didn't play him at right tackle, but from what my understanding is, he has played both tackle positions.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: So, and he could provide a swing tackle value if we have Conklin and Jones coming back, and that's what the coaching staff wants to do is to keep them.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: He could be an excellent swing tackle.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, again, that versatility left right side and the swing tackle potential.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: Those are some great names for the offensive line.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: Great names keep in mind, especially as we go in through draft season here and I'm putting together mock drafts and things like that.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I really appreciate you bringing those names to the table here.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_01]: So then also kind of the middle grab between.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: being an offensive lineman being a receiver.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: We got tight ends and the Browns are going to need to add a tight end or two, maybe.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: And for agency or the draft or whatever to kind of bolster that position because Harold Fanon Jr. was phenomenal as a rookie, but he is not your traditional in line blocking tight end.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: You're big though, you kind of guy.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: So who at the tight end position did you see at the senior role?
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: I focused on two and one will be drafted about round three and the other guy, even though he was projected to be a day three guy, I just kind of stayed on him.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: I just kind of watched him, but took a lot of notes on him.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll tell you about him, but the first guy is Justin Jolly for North Carolina State.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_00]: 638251, he's not going to beat you to the flag.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's 40 times, it's not that great.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: Now if there's a buffet, he may run and be the first guy on.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: But other than that, he doesn't have great speed.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't have great quickness.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: What he does have is he can win at the catch point because he's a former basketball player in high school.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, he was a star basketball player in high school.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: So he knows how to box out.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: for rebounds.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: He knows how to get those difficult grabs through body contact and hand fighting and arm fighting and you know rubbing bodies and pushing and shoving.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's got sneaky hip flexibility and footwork that pretty much gets defensive ends on their heels in intermediate
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: who was incredible.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: It reminds you of a center fielder just a very smooth adjustment of his body to find out where the ball is going to end up and then his high point catch.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: He knows how to jump.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's a basketball player.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: He knows how to jump.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: He knows how to go to the high point to get the rebound.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, how to go to the high point and get the football, and live fractuses, he will run through arm tackles.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to hit him squarely in the thighs or grab his knees in order to bring him down.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: and he looks like he plays with surprising anger for somebody who started his career at wide receiver weight and then eventually got got heavier to where he is now.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's got routry diversity, he can play in line, he can play slot, he can play split wide formations, now Kenny Block, yes sir.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the big one.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: He can definitely block, he is a phenomenal blocker.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: And he continues to block.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: So if he pushes his man to the left and the runner is already gone by, he's looking for the next guy to block.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's a good downfield blocker.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: He will push guys completely out of bounds.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_00]: And he knows how to engage and stay engaged.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a lot of guys block with their palms and they'll push a guy
- 46:43[SPEAKER_00]: but because the runner is behind them, whether it's a receiver or a running bag, they don't know where the running bag's trying to go, but they'll take a guy and just push him and they can't see behind themselves.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_00]: Well, what you have to do is you have staying gaged.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_00]: You don't just push a guy and let him go and then try to push him again, because now he's moved left or right trying to make the tackle.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now you've got to re-engage with him.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_00]: uh... that's that's not what jolly does jolly engages with the receiver of she's with a defensive back down field or a limacker and he stays engaged and he's continually moving his arms and his elbows and his shoulder pads as the guy starts to go left and then he goes to his right and he stays engaged and he's up at just a tremendous blocker
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: That is some great information on Justin Jolly.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very intrigued by him after hearing your description and everything you saw from him there.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_01]: Who was the second guy?
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: uh... tenor causal uh... University of Houston uh... uh... i was looking at the senior ball roster for tight ends i was looking at where the browns were drafting and that's how i chose jolly uh... none of the other tight ends were anywhere near where we're going to draft in all rounds
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: except for the last round.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's where I think Cossie all will end up.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think you'll be a six seventh round pick.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I just watched him.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: I just took notes on him.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_00]: The interview was good.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_00]: Talking with him was great.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: Very pleasant.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: Very well spoken.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: Six foot six.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_00]: 245 pounds.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_00]: He runs a 4.76 in the 40.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_00]: I just think he's, yeah, he's going to be a project.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's got some weaknesses.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_00]: He lacks the initial burst and explosive this off the line.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_00]: He's, uh,
- 48:53[SPEAKER_00]: is route running needs some refinement, but he is a physical physical guy.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's got versatility to line up anywhere along the offensive line formation from traditional tight-end spots to split in to an oversized receiver.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: and his jumping ability is phenomenal.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: Again, another high school basketball guy.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think red zone is a big highly of him.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think you just take the ball and just do an alley oak to him.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody's gonna out jump him.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he's a durable competitor and, um, he has played 36 games without coming out, never missed a gaming college.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's got a high high football IQ and even though his route running needs to be defined, he does make adjustments when running his as route and he's able to found the soft spots in zone coverage.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: He sounds like a really good sleeper name at the tight end position, which is a spot where you can get some help for your offense, especially in the receiving game.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_01]: If you find some of these hidden gems later in the draft, so that's a great one.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad you brought him up.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just kind of took him with my project during the week.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's another good name to keep in mind here.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we're going to wrap this conversation right there.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: You guys know I said in the beginning, the next episode will be the part two of this conversation with Barry Schuck.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be doing the defense to side of the ball.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: That wraps everything up today for the off-entice side.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: Let me know what you guys think in the comments.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: Who did Barry bring up that you want the Browns to specifically target in the draft and know for me, it's a guy like Ted Hurst at wider receiver.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just really
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: I told people a couple weeks ago, I think by the time we're all said and done here in the draft process, heading into April, Tedhurst is going to be a my guy.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that's the way it is yet, but that's the way I feel like it's going.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really high on a guy like Tedhurst.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_01]: There were some great offensive lineman that Barry talked about.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, slaughter, dunker, not show.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I need to learn how to say that kids name Bowery Barber.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_01]: We can get some lineman and none of these guys were talking about.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_01]: our first rounders.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, like I said previously, the offensive line depth that the Brown should be able to address in the mid, like second, third round areas of the draft, we could get some starters there.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: We really could if we do it right.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: So, that's the great conversation here with Barry.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_01]: Again, let me know what you guys think.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_01]: DogsbyNature.com, GoFollow Barry, read his work, he's phenomenal, he does such a great job, and then follow him on Twitter as well, just look him up.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_01]: And that's going to do it for today.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: Again, join the dollars.com if you want to get in the discussion in the dog pack community with Discord.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I will see you guys in the next episode talking about the defense of prospects and the quarterbacks from the senior bull.
