- 0:00I'm discussing 7 autism books that you need.
- 0:03These are my top picks coming up.
- 0:05I'm gonna be discussing seven books and some I've never even
- 0:08seen anyone else talk about about autism and how I think
- 0:11these are going to help you in your life.
- 0:12And if you're a parent and the definitely going to help you
- 0:14before I get started, you know, what on Instagram I asked you to
- 0:17ask me questions head over to Instagram follow me and put the
- 0:20notification belt on so you'll be alerted when I asked you to
- 0:22ask me questions. Okay.
- 0:23The first question is from in visible spectrum life, and they
- 0:27said do you find it hard to relate to Er aspies ever.
- 0:31I don't think I find it hard to relate to other people on the
- 0:34Spectrum. I feel like I have good rapport
- 0:36with other people on the spectrum because we have similar
- 0:38interests. Okay.
- 0:39The next question here is from Samantha rise Ruiz to and they
- 0:44said can you make a video with some tips for parents of kids
- 0:49for autistic kids what to do / not to do love your channel.
- 0:54Yeah. Absolutely.
- 0:55I am going to be doing a whole series on like parent hacks for
- 0:59parents of Kids who are on the Spectrum?
- 1:01I started a series about parents who are on the Spectrum.
- 1:03So this next series is going to be all about like parenting kids
- 1:06on the Spectrum. Okay.
- 1:08The next question here is from Doctor Who Rihanna and 74 and
- 1:12they said do you think that being on the Spectrum plays a
- 1:16part in determining one's gender identity.
- 1:18I don't think so. I feel like gender identity is
- 1:20what you're born with the to you are so it's like yeah, you know,
- 1:23I don't think that really plays a role in that.
- 1:25Okay guys, so I'm super excited wanted this video for a long
- 1:27time. And yeah, I'm super pumped.
- 1:29Let's get into it. Okay, guys, I don't have every
- 1:32single book here with me that I'm going to talk about today.
- 1:35So I'll put a picture on the screen at the ones that are
- 1:37missing and the other ones I do have here.
- 1:40I will show you guys on the screen.
- 1:41So first of all, we're going to look at a talk about here is
- 1:44look into my eyes. Now.
- 1:46This book is by a guy called Dan Jones who's not me but he is a
- 1:49friend of mine ironically and he's also hypnotherapist.
- 1:52So this book is about Asperger's Syndrome hypnotherapy and him
- 1:56and his kind of life and growing up and stuff.
- 1:57It's actually got a five star review on Amazon, which is
- 1:59pretty Something to think this was actually a best-seller a
- 2:01one-time now, that is an author. He has a bunch of other books
- 2:04out and he hasn't very good insight into living with an
- 2:07Autism Spectrum condition. He was on a panel that I did in
- 2:10summer in the city recently and he had such a good Insight in
- 2:15talking about like life and family life with being on the
- 2:17Spectrum. So his book I believe is going
- 2:19to be very very useful for people who want to just like
- 2:22read more about other people's lives with autism.
- 2:24I think like that's going to be a really good one for you guys
- 2:26to get into. Okay guys.
- 2:27My next book here is looking looking for normal now looking
- 2:32for normal is at this is a full title looking for normal autism
- 2:36and other complicated stuff, which is a paperback book
- 2:39released by a guy called Steve slavin or slaven and this book
- 2:44is basically how he had this like lifelong battle with like
- 2:47depression and Social Anxiety having a diagnosis of autism and
- 2:51kind of like, you know, how he bounced out and stuff that
- 2:54really interesting book. I think he also has OCD as well.
- 2:56So it's super relate to this guy if you have dyslexia, then you I
- 3:00would just like the same person basically very cool guy.
- 3:03It's actually this book is recommended because I bought
- 3:05another book which I'll get into in a minute, but I feel like
- 3:08this one would really help people who are wanting to find
- 3:10someone who they can relate to and kind of share those
- 3:13struggles in life issues with people like that, you know,
- 3:16because I feel like you know, we all had need someone to look at
- 3:18and go. Oh, yeah, I feel like that to
- 3:20our shared those kind of relative issues with I feel like
- 3:23that helps a lot of people and it's therapeutic.
- 3:25So definitely check that book up.
- 3:27Oh guys all the links for the books and the description below.
- 3:29Also, make sure you go check them out.
- 3:30If you want to buy one. The link is directly there to go
- 3:33straight to Amazon and buy it. Okay, guys number three is a
- 3:36book which is very close to my heart number three is actually
- 3:39become the force by me Daniel Jones.
- 3:41So yeah, this is my book called become the force.
- 3:44Now the reason I put this book in here and it's a Star Wars
- 3:47base philosophy, but you might be like what has this got to do
- 3:49with autism? Well, the book does two things
- 3:51one. It's talking about how like the
- 3:53Jedi in Star Wars. I'm like a philosophy that can
- 3:55help your life. But on the other side, it talks
- 3:57about me growing up with autism and dick.
- 4:00How Star Wars was like an Escape Route for me and how I learn
- 4:03certain things through Styles and how I feel like escapism and
- 4:06franchising and obsessions are really good for people on the
- 4:08Spectrum. So definitely check this book
- 4:10out. If you want to get it you can
- 4:11actually get it in Hungarian and Italian and there's also an
- 4:14audio book version available and you get on Kindle as well.
- 4:17So yeah, definitely check out my book.
- 4:19I'm super proud of this is my first ever book my first-ever
- 4:21publication and it was actually on a publisher as well.
- 4:24What cans media super pumped link is in description below.
- 4:27Please let me know if you already have this.
- 4:29I know I've seen find a few of these when people come see me at
- 4:31like conventions and cons and stuff like that.
- 4:33So thank you so much for that. Okay, guys, let's move on to the
- 4:37next book. Okay.
- 4:38So this is number 4 and you remember I was talking to you
- 4:40about a book that was recommended to me called that
- 4:43looking for normal was recommended to me whilst I was
- 4:45buying another book. So the book I was buying whilst.
- 4:48I was recommended that it was actually this book and this book
- 4:51is the reason I jump now. The reason I jump was a book
- 4:55that we bought because Naomi my partner studied this when she
- 4:58was in university because she's A degree in childhood studies on
- 5:01about what is a man as burgers and so she bought this book
- 5:04called The reason I jumped by somebody called Nia cut Naki
- 5:08higashi de okay. I'm very dyslexic.
- 5:11So if I pronounce this wrong that I'm so sorry and this is
- 5:14actually I think there's this is dictated by know our key and
- 5:18Nike and then it's a guy called the David Mitchell who actually
- 5:22kind of like translated this and put it into like actual word
- 5:25context because it's about a person who is autistic and then
- 5:29Is on the reasons why they do things like you know, why do
- 5:32they stand? Why do they jump why are they
- 5:34seem to be misbehaving and all those kinds of things and it's
- 5:36fascinating. It was the first time somebody
- 5:39of an awesome Spectrum condition had put the stuff in two words
- 5:42like that. It's just amazing and it was a
- 5:44very eye-opening book. I mean they use it in Academia.
- 5:47This book is like super super dope.
- 5:48So I would definitely recommend checking this book out.
- 5:51I think you can get it relatively cheap now because
- 5:53it's like, you know mass-produced very very good
- 5:55though. I highly recommend it.
- 5:56Okay. So number 5 does book just
- 5:58jumped out at me when I was researching.
- 5:59Books for people on the Spectrum I wanted to find books that
- 6:02would relate to parents as well as I know a lot of my viewers
- 6:04are parents and I wanted to reach out to you guys directly
- 6:07and give you something that you could take to help improve your
- 6:11life as well. So this is called autism how to
- 6:14raise a happy autistic child. And I think this is just on
- 6:16Kindle. I'm not entirely sure the author
- 6:18is Jesse Hewitt sun' and the book is super cool.
- 6:22It looks very good. The cover looks amazing and it's
- 6:24kind of like a sat-nav what they describe as a SAT enough for
- 6:27being like a parent, you know. Navigating your way around
- 6:31having an autistic kid. And the funny thing about it is
- 6:34like it's got how to read to happy autistic child.
- 6:36And every monster is our kids to be happy.
- 6:38That's the reason you know, you're doing your best at like
- 6:40parenting. So this book would be definitely
- 6:42recommended for any parents out there looking for a book to get
- 6:45into or if you are not even a parent yet and you think about
- 6:47having kids in the future and you're on the Spectrum when you
- 6:50you know, you worried that or maybe you have an autistic child
- 6:53and you're worried about having to search out but you shouldn't
- 6:55be worried because it's awesome things like this book and you
- 6:58that can help navigate people through that.
- 6:59Oh, yeah, definitely check out this book.
- 7:01I found this phone quite an interesting want to check in and
- 7:03it seems to have a really good reason.
- 7:05I 55 reviews on Amazon others like a 4.5 star marker, which is
- 7:09pretty decent. Okay.
- 7:10So number six. This one was really really fun.
- 7:13I wanted to make sure I had a selection of different books in
- 7:16this video. Now this book is kind of aimed
- 7:19at children or young people and this book is called the survival
- 7:23guide for kids with autism disorders are autism spectrum
- 7:27disorders. Oh and also has in Brackets and
- 7:28their parents so I guess parents could read this book as well.
- 7:31So I think it's like an all-rounder kind of like goes to
- 7:33the parent it goes with the kids.
- 7:34I feel like you can you know chop and change between them
- 7:37because I feel like pounds are going to benefit from it as
- 7:39well. But one of the things the reason
- 7:40that I chose this book is because I wanted to find a book
- 7:42that you know, younger people on the Spectrum could find a book
- 7:45that they related to and they could have fun with as well
- 7:47because you know, we all you know, we're all at different
- 7:49stages in our life, you know, and so some books aren't always
- 7:52at the same levels other people. So this one was written by
- 7:54Elizabeth verdict. And yeah, it's a like a positive
- 7:58straightforward book. Offers kids with Austin's
- 8:01veteran soldiers their own comprehensive resource for both
- 8:04understanding the condition and finding tools to cope which I
- 8:06feel it's super beneficial. I highly recommend checking this
- 8:10out. If you're a kid or you have kids
- 8:11and you want to recommend good books to your kids.
- 8:13Why not? Also if anyone's watching you
- 8:15like working at school, maybe get this book in what we kind of
- 8:18really good for the kids to read it.
- 8:20Okay guys, so the last book number 7 not this book actually
- 8:23fell into my lap almost literally, so I did a sponsored
- 8:27video with a company called Sundays.
- 8:29Essays or Sundays or Sunday my kind of model called.
- 8:33Anyway, the company sent me a bunch of stuff to review and I
- 8:36did the review but they also sent me this book.
- 8:38This book is called living well on the Spectrum how to use your
- 8:43strengths to meet the challenges of Asperger's Syndrome start
- 8:46siphoning autism Valerie gasps PhD now, she actually signed
- 8:51this and give me like a little note inside.
- 8:53This book was really nice them to send us really wrote this
- 8:55like know and everything inside this book.
- 8:57I didn't know what to expect from it, but it's very Friends
- 9:00of it's a great way to help somebody who's feeling like less
- 9:05confident. Should I say the moment know
- 9:07someone on the Spectrum who feels like they're kind of not
- 9:09how lost bit like they're not as confident as you wanted to be.
- 9:12They feel like they're a bit of an outcast and things like that
- 9:14because we've all been that I felt like that as well.
- 9:16And so this book is very interesting and this is not the
- 9:18first time I've seen this book actually one of my fans Holly.
- 9:21Her name was to came to my talk in Birmingham and that and she
- 9:25was talking to me and she had this book as long as she's been
- 9:27going through these different things as well.
- 9:29So I that this is pretty awesome.
- 9:31And yeah, there's so many activities in this book.
- 9:33I found that just super amazing to share this with you and like
- 9:37hey, they sent it to me. I just felt so like blessed us
- 9:39what one semi this book. I haven't gotten around to
- 9:42reading all of this yet. I've actually breezed through it
- 9:44quite a bit and I haven't done any tasks in there, but maybe I
- 9:46should definitely do some of the tasks sometime soon.
- 9:49But look it's a decent big book and if you're interested by a
- 9:52doctor, I think it's really good.
- 9:54Do a really nice some of this book and she's lovely she's
- 9:56having like a really nice note and she enjoys the work we're
- 9:58doing the channel. So I thought I would put a book
- 10:01in there because I really think this could help some people who
- 10:03are looking for like strategies and things too like activities
- 10:06within a book. That's a super awesome like
- 10:08activities in the book. You don't see those these days
- 10:10and you know, these are just a small snapshot of some of the
- 10:13books that are available and I just wanted to give you seven of
- 10:16the ones that I picked out right now.
- 10:17I think I just like the best ones that you could buy right
- 10:20now. Okay guys, we're going to leave
- 10:21it there right now because I've got loads of stuff to do, but
- 10:23I'll see you next time guys. Peace.
