- 0:32Speaker 1: ninety seven to three of the game up there at Milliewalkea,
- 0:34Speaker 1: which is Algonquin for the good Land. Did I nail it?
- 0:37Speaker 1: I don't know, Bill, will know? Bill?
- 0:38Speaker 2: How are you? Man? I'm doing good, Matt, appreciate you
- 0:41Speaker 2: having me on. Man. You nailed it right on.
- 0:43Speaker 1: The Algonquin for the good Land?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Did I really nail it?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Yes, sir, Oh yeah, absolutely, And I'm glad somebody still
- 0:51Speaker 3: busts that out. It goes by in you know waves.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Depends on how many times people are watching some good,
- 0:57Speaker 2: you know, half baked movies.
- 1:00Speaker 1: There's no shot at all that Muse knows what I'm
- 1:02Speaker 1: talking about, any idea at all what I'm talking about.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Muse, No, I don't know what that is.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Okay, that was from Wayne's World, so nowhere I knew it.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Muse is a thirty something. There was no chance he
- 1:12Speaker 1: was going to get at thirty one. There, You got
- 1:13Speaker 1: no chance in Paul, did you know Wayne's.
- 1:15Speaker 2: The Waynsworld reference?
- 1:16Speaker 3: Paul?
- 1:17Speaker 2: I did not.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Paul did not know it either. Okay, we got a
- 1:19Speaker 1: bunch of a bunch of little wet behind the ears
- 1:23Speaker 1: noubes over there. You gotta watch Wayn's World. It's worth doing.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But if you don't want to, don't because I don't
- 1:27Speaker 1: watch movies either. All right, Bill, let's starry with the Packers. So, man,
- 1:32Speaker 1: a lot of people looked at saying, sayonara to Aaron Rodgers,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and what are you doing giving Jordan Love that contract
- 1:39Speaker 1: after basically half a season? And he is kind of awesome?
- 1:44Speaker 1: So how awesome is Jordan Love right now?
- 1:46Speaker 3: It's a great question, man, And to start, he's he's
- 1:50Speaker 3: exactly what you hope for in a young guy that's
- 1:53Speaker 3: going to take over the program. And it's one of
- 1:56Speaker 3: the reasons why. I think they were so interesting and
- 1:58Speaker 3: just handing him the program, letting him kind of take
- 2:01Speaker 3: it from where it was. He is a confident, but
- 2:05Speaker 3: quiet and remarkably humble dude. He is extremely confident in
- 2:11Speaker 3: his throwing ability, and I think that's where you're seeing
- 2:15Speaker 3: a little bit more of the untapped potential really start
- 2:17Speaker 3: to show a little bit more of itself. He can
- 2:20Speaker 3: sling it, he can make every single one of the throws.
- 2:22Speaker 3: But he is still finding his way as a young
- 2:26Speaker 3: starter in this league as to what decisions you can make,
- 2:29Speaker 3: what decisions you can't, what risks can you take, and
- 2:33Speaker 3: which ones are too big of risks with the football
- 2:37Speaker 3: that being the most important thing. He's only made about
- 2:39Speaker 3: thirty starts in the NFL, so he's still learning how
- 2:44Speaker 3: dangerous I think he can be outside of the pocket.
- 2:48Speaker 2: But when they get the run game going and he's able.
- 2:50Speaker 3: To hit the back of his five step drop in
- 2:53Speaker 3: a play action fake and let that thing rip, he
- 2:56Speaker 3: can make every single throw on the football field. One
- 2:58Speaker 3: of the reasons why felt confident plucking him from the
- 3:02Speaker 3: Mountain West and thought that he was going to be
- 3:04Speaker 3: able to play with a little bit of development and
- 3:06Speaker 3: a little bit of time.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And that's a.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Fortunate thing we have here in Green Bay that you
- 3:14Speaker 3: cannot take it lightly. No other organizations really have the
- 3:19Speaker 3: sustained I guess patients that the Packers have shown for
- 3:25Speaker 3: decades upon decades now to allow you to feel confident
- 3:29Speaker 3: that three years later you're still going to have a
- 3:31Speaker 3: job as a head coach and a GM to let
- 3:33Speaker 3: this guy sit, let them mature, and then ultimately now
- 3:36Speaker 3: they're being able to see some of the fruits of that.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, Packers and Steelers are the outliers, no doubt. They
- 3:41Speaker 1: started two and two would have won eight of ten.
- 3:44Speaker 2: How they done it well, They've done it by in
- 3:48Speaker 2: a lot of different ways.
- 3:49Speaker 3: It's a good question because there have been games in
- 3:52Speaker 3: which they've run the ball thirty five to forty times
- 3:54Speaker 3: as a team. There's games that they've won now here
- 3:57Speaker 3: where I think they've ran forty three plays in the
- 3:59Speaker 3: Bears game in a total sixty minute game. So they've
- 4:03Speaker 3: had to win a game in a variety of fashions.
- 4:06Speaker 3: What they've really done, though, is shift the identity of
- 4:09Speaker 3: the football team into a.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Power run game. Behind Josh Jacobs and company. I mean,
- 4:14Speaker 2: it is it's palpable.
- 4:16Speaker 3: When he starts getting going, the sideline picks up, the
- 4:20Speaker 3: physicality on both sides of the ball picks up, and
- 4:23Speaker 3: they are no longer as much of a finesse squad
- 4:27Speaker 3: as they've been for the last you know, two decades
- 4:29Speaker 3: or so. When you have a passing attack orchestrated by
- 4:33Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers in company and Brett Favre to an extent,
- 4:35Speaker 3: but his final number of years, they were much more
- 4:38Speaker 3: built the way they are now. You're going to run
- 4:42Speaker 3: a West Coast offense. They wanted to sling it around
- 4:44Speaker 3: the yard. They wanted to win one on one matchups
- 4:46Speaker 3: on the outside. They lost a bunch of big playoff
- 4:49Speaker 3: games here in this area doing that. And there's been
- 4:54Speaker 3: a fundamental shift. And when Josh Jacobs came into the
- 4:57Speaker 3: fold this year, he is quickly taken holds as the
- 5:02Speaker 3: true leader and alpha guy I think in this offense,
- 5:05Speaker 3: as a playmaker, and everybody falls in line with him
- 5:08Speaker 3: because he gets the whole.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Squad going, and man's third in the NFL and rushing
- 5:11Speaker 1: in the Raiders well like, hey, we don't need that guy,
- 5:13Speaker 1: which is why the Raiders are are the ras Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Think about it. This way.
- 5:18Speaker 3: That's interrupting, but it but like they take the Raiders
- 5:21Speaker 3: maybe best player in Josh Jacobs.
- 5:22Speaker 2: They kind of wanted him back, but Josh.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Jacobs said, yeah, no, thanks, all right, I'm gonna actually
- 5:27Speaker 3: enjoy playing football again. And Xavier McKinney, they were college
- 5:31Speaker 3: teammates at Alabama. He's in New York. They wanted to
- 5:34Speaker 3: keep him, but thought, you know, maybe the price will
- 5:36Speaker 3: be a little bit different for a safety. Paid well
- 5:38Speaker 3: for Xavier McKinney. There was a time and place matt
- 5:41Speaker 3: where Xavier McKinney and Josh Jacobs were both top three
- 5:46Speaker 3: or top five in odds to win Offensive and Defensive
- 5:50Speaker 3: Player of the Year, respectively. Those guys walked into the
- 5:53Speaker 3: building in March, late March, early April. Massive boost to
- 5:58Speaker 3: a team that last year was pretty dangerous down the stretch.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Good organizations against bad organizations. The signs were always there.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Bill Schmid's with US ninety seven three of the game
- 6:06Speaker 1: there in Milwaukee. Also just Packers' post game. If there
- 6:09Speaker 1: is a deficiency on the offense, if there is an
- 6:11Speaker 1: achilles heel, what is it?
- 6:13Speaker 3: I think consistent playmaker on the outside. Right, Like they
- 6:17Speaker 3: got a bunch of dudes that can be factors. But
- 6:21Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago, those in the betting and
- 6:23Speaker 3: fantasy football world were quite frustrated with Jayden Reid, who
- 6:26Speaker 3: had become a real X factor Deebo Samuel Light kind
- 6:29Speaker 3: of guy, the way the Niners were using him a
- 6:31Speaker 3: couple of years ago. And then my man goes without
- 6:34Speaker 3: a catch, like one target in the biggest game of
- 6:37Speaker 3: the year. However, they score thirty one points. So like
- 6:41Speaker 3: they're a very multiple offense, but they don't necessarily have
- 6:45Speaker 3: the one person on the outside that you know is
- 6:48Speaker 3: going to get the football in the biggest spot. But
- 6:51Speaker 3: Romeo Dobbs catches two touchdowns a couple of weeks ago,
- 6:54Speaker 3: it was Jayden Reid with two touchdowns. They're very They're
- 6:58Speaker 3: able to be very matchup specific in how they attack
- 7:02Speaker 3: people on offense. I think that's number one and maybe
- 7:05Speaker 3: the other deficiency, and we'll see how it rears its head.
- 7:09Speaker 3: There's a real awesome craze going around up here, Matt
- 7:13Speaker 3: where Jordan Love turns into a superhero during the Toyota
- 7:17Speaker 3: than Sales event, and there's a correlation to any time
- 7:21Speaker 3: you see a Toyota advertisement and the Packers are on offense.
- 7:25Speaker 3: If you can lie bet a touchdown or something, jump
- 7:28Speaker 3: in there. This dude is unbelievable through this timeline. However,
- 7:32Speaker 3: it ended just before the divisional round of the playoffs
- 7:34Speaker 3: last year. Keeping care, taking care of the football and
- 7:38Speaker 3: not putting it in Harmon's way. That's what he's done,
- 7:41Speaker 3: really really well over this stretch, especially out of the
- 7:43Speaker 3: bye week bill.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I'm always in search of an angle. That's as random
- 7:48Speaker 1: bit of an angle as I've ever heard in my
- 7:49Speaker 1: life during a hey.
- 7:51Speaker 2: But here's here's the problem.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Are you talking about national or local ads?
- 7:55Speaker 3: Oh? National, baby, we got to We're trying to get
- 7:57Speaker 3: Jan on the radio show.
- 7:59Speaker 2: But this this is the whole thing. Like if your
- 8:01Speaker 2: listeners looking.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Up online Packers, Twitter is infatuated with this deal, and
- 8:07Speaker 3: the numbers back it up. Like during whatever this little
- 8:09Speaker 3: timeline is, and it started about three weeks ago, he's
- 8:12Speaker 3: like twenty six touchdowns to two picks in his two
- 8:15Speaker 3: seasons starting, so it's pretty radical. And then it's like
- 8:19Speaker 3: twenty nine to twenty five in the first ten weeks
- 8:22Speaker 3: of a season. But also good teams get better later
- 8:25Speaker 3: into the year, and that's what we're more hoping is
- 8:28Speaker 3: a sustainable thought as to what happens.
- 8:29Speaker 1: That might be the only reason for Saints fans to
- 8:32Speaker 1: watch this game is to look for the Jan Toyota
- 8:35Speaker 1: than ads and the live bed the Jordan Love touchdown. Hey,
- 8:41Speaker 1: a good way to be a really good NFL team
- 8:44Speaker 1: is to be top ten in both scoring offense and
- 8:46Speaker 1: scoring defense. That Screen Bay their seventh in scoring offense,
- 8:49Speaker 1: their eighth and scoring defense. So what has made this
- 8:52Speaker 1: defense so effective?
- 8:55Speaker 2: That's a great question.
- 8:56Speaker 3: They took the ball away at an insane rate in
- 8:59Speaker 3: the first eight and nine weeks. Those have kind of
- 9:01Speaker 3: curtailed a little bit as of late. There's still I
- 9:04Speaker 3: think top five in takeaways and percentage or split right there,
- 9:10Speaker 3: and turnover ratio along around the league. However, over the
- 9:14Speaker 3: last number of weeks they've been able to get after
- 9:16Speaker 3: the quarterback a little bit more. Jeff Afflee comes in
- 9:19Speaker 3: year one, he's the head coach at Boston College. Says,
- 9:22Speaker 3: this nil deal in working at a middle ACC school,
- 9:26Speaker 3: not for me.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Going back to the NFL where he had some roots with.
- 9:29Speaker 3: The Niners, and he said from day one they were
- 9:33Speaker 3: going to be aggressive, they were going to be intense,
- 9:35Speaker 3: and they were going to try to get after people
- 9:36Speaker 3: and take the ball away. They did it early, didn't
- 9:40Speaker 3: get after the passer at all early. Now it's a
- 9:43Speaker 3: little bit flipped where you know, they had seven sacks
- 9:48Speaker 3: last week against albeit a dinged up Geno Smith late
- 9:52Speaker 3: and then Sam Howell for the last quarter and a half,
- 9:54Speaker 3: but then they knocked Gino Smith out of the game.
- 9:56Speaker 2: And they've had multiple sacks in each of the last
- 9:58Speaker 2: four weeks.
- 9:59Speaker 3: I think that's the big trend for why the Packers
- 10:02Speaker 3: defense out of the bye week most importantly has been
- 10:05Speaker 3: able to be as explosive. And they brought in some
- 10:08Speaker 3: young guys who were in their program right like, this
- 10:10Speaker 3: is my favorite part of it.
- 10:12Speaker 2: They trade Preston Smith.
- 10:14Speaker 3: I'm on the air saying, what are you trading a
- 10:16Speaker 3: veteran for when you're trying to go to the playoffs.
- 10:18Speaker 3: They said, we had this Brenton Cox junior who was
- 10:21Speaker 3: bounced out of two SEC schools, undrafted, red shirted for
- 10:25Speaker 3: like a year and a half. He's got three sacks
- 10:28Speaker 3: in the last six games. And then Aaron Moseby, who
- 10:30Speaker 3: barely made the team out of camp.
- 10:32Speaker 2: They bring him in.
- 10:33Speaker 3: He's got a couple of sacks, over the last four
- 10:35Speaker 3: or five weeks playing a bunch of good balls. So
- 10:37Speaker 3: they've developed some young guys up front who are emerging
- 10:42Speaker 3: into their roles and if that continues to improve, Man,
- 10:47Speaker 3: the sky's the limit for how much they can get
- 10:48Speaker 3: after the passer.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, green Bay is It's interesting, Bill because
- 10:52Speaker 1: I think a lot of people who maybe had been
- 10:54Speaker 1: more enamored with storylines like Detroit in Kansas City and
- 10:58Speaker 1: Buffalo maybe having paying as much attention to Green Bay. Well,
- 11:01Speaker 1: Sunday Night Football was a stage where they went and
- 11:03Speaker 1: just waxed Seattle at Lumen Field, where it was like, oh, Craper,
- 11:06Speaker 1: the Packers like really that good? And you look up
- 11:08Speaker 1: and you go, okay. Well, they're ten and four, three
- 11:11Speaker 1: to play and two more division games. There are two
- 11:13Speaker 1: games back of Minnesota and Detroit, but they play still
- 11:16Speaker 1: Saints Vikings Bears are is Division and one seed.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Part of the.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Conversation that people are having up there around the Packers.
- 11:27Speaker 3: So that kind of went out the door after the
- 11:30Speaker 3: Lions game, where mathematically it would be it'd be really
- 11:34Speaker 3: tough for them to have that happen. They need a
- 11:37Speaker 3: lot of things to fall their way. However, I think
- 11:41Speaker 3: The biggest thing for Packers fans right now is they're
- 11:45Speaker 3: excited for the opportunity to go back to Detroit. They're
- 11:48Speaker 3: excited to get another crack at the Minnesota Vikings because
- 11:52Speaker 3: they're a different football team than when they.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Played them Week four here at Lambeau Field.
- 11:57Speaker 3: But the tough thing about where the are right now,
- 12:01Speaker 3: Matt is they've beaten everybody they're supposed to They've taken
- 12:05Speaker 3: care of games that they're supposed to win. What they
- 12:08Speaker 3: haven't been able to do is beat the teams that
- 12:09Speaker 3: they're behind, that being the Eagles in Week one Vikings
- 12:12Speaker 3: at Lambeau Week four, Lions twice so and the first
- 12:17Speaker 3: time they play the Lions one of the worst games
- 12:20Speaker 3: they've played all year. They throw a pit Jordan throws
- 12:22Speaker 3: a pick six just before half one point. It's twenty
- 12:25Speaker 3: four to three. Wasn't close. They're taking the lead before
- 12:31Speaker 3: a very very questionable offensive pass interference play. And still
- 12:35Speaker 3: you got to be able to play the games. You
- 12:36Speaker 3: got to get a stop. They play a three point
- 12:39Speaker 3: game a couple of weeks ago. That gap is closed.
- 12:42Speaker 3: So people are excited, and I think fans and the
- 12:44Speaker 3: organization alike are anxious for another opportunity at those guys.
- 12:49Speaker 3: But I think most people are anticipating and Lafloor said
- 12:51Speaker 3: it a couple of times that they're gonna have to
- 12:53Speaker 3: go on the road in the postseason, and they kind
- 12:56Speaker 3: of like it. He's termed them, we're gonna have to
- 12:58Speaker 3: be road warriors for to get to where they want
- 13:01Speaker 3: to go. They did it a year ago and they
- 13:03Speaker 3: were an eyelash away from upsetting the Niners in the
- 13:06Speaker 3: Divisional round last year. They're pretty confident wherever they have
- 13:10Speaker 3: to go, but it does appear they're going to be
- 13:12Speaker 3: away from home come postseason time.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Bill Schmid's with US ninety seven to three of the
- 13:17Speaker 1: game there in Milwaukee's on Twitter at Bill Schmid Radio,
- 13:20Speaker 1: Schmid at Bill Schmid Radio. One more for you. If
- 13:23Speaker 1: the Saints have a blueprint to go to lambeau Monday
- 13:25Speaker 1: night football, probably in the snow and upset the Packers,
- 13:28Speaker 1: what do you think has to happen?
- 13:30Speaker 3: Well, it would be and Darren Rizzie's going to like this.
- 13:33Speaker 3: One of the last times the Packers lost in the
- 13:35Speaker 3: snow up at lambeau Field was a Divisional round game
- 13:38Speaker 3: to the Niners. Included a black punt for a field
- 13:40Speaker 3: goal or a touchdown. I would assume stealing a possession. Now,
- 13:44Speaker 3: last year when you guys were up here, it was
- 13:46Speaker 3: a Rashid Shaheed seventy five yard punt return for a touchdown,
- 13:50Speaker 3: if I'm not mistaken. So I think stealing a score
- 13:53Speaker 3: is the biggest way to go about it. And hell,
- 13:56Speaker 3: as somebody that may have been invested on the Commanders
- 13:59Speaker 3: last week, your defense plays really really hard and plays
- 14:02Speaker 3: for a full sixty minutes. Josh Jacobs has put the
- 14:05Speaker 3: ball on the turf a couple of different times during
- 14:08Speaker 3: the year, and one time on.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Sunday Night football. I think that's the biggest recipe for it.
- 14:13Speaker 3: And the Packers in their last four or five games
- 14:16Speaker 3: have really rectified their.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Red zone offensive issues. They were.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Twenty to twenty five in football for the first five
- 14:24Speaker 3: or six seven weeks and since then have been among
- 14:28Speaker 3: the league leaders. So I'll hold them to a couple
- 14:31Speaker 3: of field goals in the red zone. The Packers will
- 14:33Speaker 3: want to, I think, run the football, try to milk
- 14:36Speaker 3: some clock and run this thing down, steal a possession.
- 14:39Speaker 3: This thing could be close late and man, the Lambeau
- 14:43Speaker 3: mystique in the snow and in the cold is a
- 14:45Speaker 3: much different.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Deal than before I was born.
- 14:47Speaker 3: One of my first football memories is a really really
- 14:50Speaker 3: sad one when Mike Vick and company came up and
- 14:53Speaker 3: beat and just roundhouse the Packers in the playoffs and
- 14:56Speaker 3: his first playoff start. That was the first time that
- 14:59Speaker 3: a team TEA had come into Lambeau and won in
- 15:01Speaker 3: the postseason when it was below thirty two degrees. Packers
- 15:05Speaker 3: are about five hundred cents, so it's a much different story.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Teams have come up here and one, but it definitely
- 15:12Speaker 3: starts by stealing a couple and putting the Packers behind
- 15:16Speaker 3: the eight ball.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I would assume probably doesn't include starting a backup rookie
- 15:20Speaker 1: quarterback too.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Well, you know, Spencer Rattler might be a little cold,
- 15:23Speaker 3: so I don't know if he's gonna be doing his
- 15:24Speaker 3: midfield issues for this one, but I'm excited to see it.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Bill Schmid, good stuff, man, We always appreciate it. Be well, Bud.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Thanks guys.
