- 0:03Thirteen ten WIBA Madison in the morning on this Thursday, October nineteenth. Great
- 0:09day for a number of reasons. You may not know this, but today
- 0:13is International Credit Union Day. And joining us in studio is John Nugent.
- 0:18Of course, John comes to us from Topaco. John, how you been
- 0:22good? Happy National Credit Union Day, Happy Thursday. It is great to
- 0:25see you and great to have you back in studio. And you, of
- 0:29course come to us from Dupaco. And let's talk about how you guys have
- 0:32been doing. I mean, what an amazing opportunity for folks that one we're
- 0:37going to learn a little bit about credit unions. But I've noticed in likely
- 0:40you know, you and I have been doing these segments once every few months
- 0:43for a year or so. Now. I have been amazed by the response
- 0:47I'm hearing from people about Dupaco. Let's talk about what you see is as
- 0:51far as customers and people that are learning about credit unions in Topaco for the
- 0:54first time. How's it been here in Madison. Yeah? Absolutely, Madison
- 0:58is such an awesome city. You know, a lot of credit unions,
- 1:00a lot of friendly people. So that we've been up and running for about
- 1:04a little over a year now and people are starting to see the signs.
- 1:07They're starting to come into the branches and get a taste of what Dopaco's all
- 1:11about. So it's been really good. Let's talk about what makes what makes
- 1:14a credit union different and unique and and I think for a lot of folks
- 1:18they sometimes think, oh, they're they're they're just a banking institution. They're
- 1:22They're not. The structure is very different, isn't it. Yeah, absolutely
- 1:26so. Credit unions are financial cooperative, so the members are also owners.
- 1:32Each member has an equal voice in the credit union, so they can vote
- 1:36on members of our volunteer board of directors. And you know, credit union's
- 1:42purpose is to make a pro not to make a profit for the stockholders,
- 1:45but rather to serve the financial needs of its membership. I've got a guess
- 1:49for for somebody as as as as somebody like you that gets a chance to,
- 1:53you know, work with people every single day, it's got to be
- 1:57rewarding not having to have that that you know. The motivation is literally to
- 2:00help help customers as opposed to how can we get the most And it's sad
- 2:05to say, but it's reality. How can we get the most amount of
- 2:07money out of these people. Literally, your guys's mission is to help the
- 2:12people that are coming through your doors, because those are the people that are
- 2:14running the shop. Absolutely, and it's amazing. You know, every time
- 2:17somebody comes in, we have a chance to help them get them into a
- 2:22spot where they can live a life worth loving. And it's awesome, it's
- 2:25empowering. And as we talk about the team at Dupaco and some of the
- 2:30things that you guys do. Of course, today is International Credit Union Day,
- 2:34I've got to guess that there's there's something's going to be going on to
- 2:37celebrate this day at Dupaco. Absolutely, So we're just asking our members or
- 2:42non members to stop into the branch or go to our Facebook page and just
- 2:46to enter in tell us what you're doing with your thank yous for a chance
- 2:52to win a nice little prize. We just we just love to hear of
- 2:53what you plan on spending that. Let's talk about those thank yous, by
- 2:57the way, let's for folks that are saying thank you. Use what's a
- 3:00what's a thank you? This is something unique to to Paco and something that's
- 3:05great for your members, isn't it. Yeah? And thank you? So
- 3:07thank use us E is a way that we give back to our members for
- 3:14our members at do Paco using our products and services. So for example,
- 3:17like the loans, the savings, credit and debit cards. One this year
- 3:23was just for taking steps to keep their account safe. So the more member
- 3:25use the products and services, the more thank yous they earn. And we're
- 3:30talking too as you talk about some of the some of the numbers here,
- 3:34we're talking a pretty substantial amount amount of money up given to members each year.
- 3:40This year three point three million dollars be going back to our members.
- 3:44That is amazing to see. So so as we talk about kind of what
- 3:47they are, when do members receive those thank yous and how does how does
- 3:52that kind of kind of that that process work today should be in your account
- 3:55so real learning, yep should be There'll be checking on as soon as we
- 4:00ran on this segment. So let's get a little bit of background kind of
- 4:04what the as we talk about the thank you's usc thank yous, let's talk
- 4:09about kind of what the what the motivation is there and kind of what's the
- 4:13why offer such a thing? I mean, the reality is nobody else does
- 4:16this, Why would why do you? Why do you guys do that Dopaco
- 4:20cares about our members and their overall well being. And you know, as
- 4:24a credit union, we're all owners of the cooperative and we share in this
- 4:29success of the credit union. And that's you know through the thank you is
- 4:32the competitive rates, the lower fees, and then you know, like the
- 4:38free and low cost money management tools, which is more important. Talking this
- 4:42morning with John Nugent, of course he comes to us from du Paco on
- 4:45this International Credit Union Day and and as we as we learn more too,
- 4:49John, and I know, as we've mentioned Dupaco here in Madison a little
- 4:54over a year now, as people are experiencing this, I've got to guess
- 4:58a lot of folks that are that are winning the credit union. A lot
- 5:00of word of mouth, a lot of a lot of people saying I had
- 5:03this experience with the folks at to Paco. This is and I've told my
- 5:06friends and family that's a big thing too. As we're talking about thank yous
- 5:11and an opportunity for members to to they're getting those those checks and other things.
- 5:15It's also a great opportunity for folks that have that have had an opportunity
- 5:18to work with you guys, at Dupaco to share that, share that message
- 5:23and share their experiences with others, isn't it? Yeah? Absolutely, you
- 5:26know we love hearing the stories, the success stories. You know, the
- 5:29people in the branch love what we do. We love to help and we
- 5:32love to hear it. But we also love for you guys to share it
- 5:35to the members, to share with new members or other members. And you
