- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: What's up everyone?
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome in.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: It is that time of week.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: It is the student's on SIPodcast Eye, and we're at Chabin' Hangin' Out here in More America on a South Carolina week.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: We got the usual squad together.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: We got the great job.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: Hoover, back up North, 918, whoop, big 12-hater, whoop.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: What's up dog, are you?
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: Billock, I should be 907, whoops since I come from Alaska.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you currently reside in the 918, and I remember that one because I don't often have to deal with the last category, though it's basically.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: We got Arme and Carson Field, who is still decompressing from his first experience of fried food at the state fair of fashion.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, how are you this week?
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: Doing great.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: Still catching up on a little bit of sleep.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, it was a big commitment for all of us last week with the Rival rivalry.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: But glad to be back.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Big game this week too.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: Big one, gotta have it.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's a must win, but it's a gotta have it.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: However you fall on that.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: We'll break into all of that.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: We got a man who had no fair food last weekend and got to experience zero of the brand new press box.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the end I'll talk about the press box because it was a little bit of cares, but Avery, you missed a treat with the new press box.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was a little bit jealous here and about the easy trek to the post game presser didn't have to wave through all those people, but it was also really nice not to have to deal with the fair traffic afterwards.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, car style have some bare traffic this weekend.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Apparently I've been multiple parking charts sent my way for Oklahoma South Carolina and while it's the state fair South Carolina, it looks more like a carnival compared to what we're
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: you know what you love it.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome on in.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, if you've never been a salmon swimming upstream or sports rider trying to get to the OU Texas post game post game press conference, you have no idea what Ryan's talking about.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: Now you need 2,000 people coming at you and you're just like, I just got to get through another 50 feet.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: It was so bad.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_03]: New prospects.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_03]: OU is getting blown out.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, generally a lot easier.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_03]: But if it's a close game or they win, or they win, it's an absolute madhouse or it was an absolute madhouse because we don't have to deal with that anymore.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: We're step right outside the press box and the interview room is right there.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's amazing.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's incredible.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of the coolest things and I said we're going to talk about it.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about it for two seconds.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Avert that one of the coolest things, though, is that now we are moved up into the Oklahoma in zone.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: If you're in the Oklahoma in zone, look at the tournament field, we're situated left at the top of between the first level and the second level.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: Still a pressbox so it's kind of like muted.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: There's not a ton of atmosphere usually in a pressbox, which is great when you're trying to focus and right, but sometimes you don't get like the full atmosphere, which is why we default to Carson a lot of like, hey man, it sounded like it was probably loud, but how did it feel?
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: One of the really cool things because we're stuck in between.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: We know that years and years and years ago when they expanded the upper deck and they put in the the metal bleachers.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: that everyone like stomps and stuff just to try to create some extra noise.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, when people stop, instead of getting like Jeff Levy was a serial stomper, his coaching box is right above us, and Oklahoma would like miss a receiver of the middle you could hear him stomping.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Whoever was right above, uh, who of an eye was a Jeff Levy level upset multiple times.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: She's like big stomping, because that came through clear as day.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: And uh, I was kind of cracking up, because you could, you could get the full vibe.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: But the emotions, the highs and the lows at the Oklahoma incident was going through,
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: I thought the asbestos was going to come down on top of us.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_03]: Who, like you're telling me, is it was a little reminiscing of the Mike Stoops days?
- 4:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, in Kansas State.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, in Manhattan, Kansas.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, unfortunately, we have no work lying, bottles were flying out of the upper deck.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: So yes, it evolved into that particular day.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so in the first five minutes, we've done press box talk.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about a, a no-you Texas game that Oklahoma's lost.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: We've evoked the name of Mike Stoops.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: There are no listeners left that nobody's left.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's gone.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: They've turned off.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: Good stuff's coming up.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: If you're still with us, we didn't talk to bit our buckle and preventables yesterday on Tuesday.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: We talked to a lot of you guys on Monday night, including John Matier, a bunch of those.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: Let's dive straight in, um,
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: And right now we didn't get your thoughts after the game, but I assume one of your takeaways from the Texas game was probably, hey, we had talked about the running game, we had talked about everything the Oklahoma has not been able to do so far on the ground.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: And Saturday was a little bit of the worst case scenario.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: Jomitsier, slow processing, like he said, he talked about his eyes being in the wrong place.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: I would say that that also correlates to just be the step slow for a guy that was 17 days off surgery.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma's rushing attack against a good Texas defense, but unable to do anything to help him out.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: It was kind of all on material.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: And when it's here isn't locked in as an on, you see that the issues that could be there for Oklahoma's rushing or for Oklahoma's offense in general, got to get that rushing attack going.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start with the good news.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: Derek Simmons, the offensive tackle who went down, Brent Minimals did say he was day to day.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: So Wednesday night, availability report, I don't know if that means he'll be probable, questionable doubtful, but it doesn't sound like that's going to be a long term thing.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: But ABER, we'll start there.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: Gotta have that, because I don't think the Luke back Clanko, Fassu C, being one step away from Daniel Ackon, Kumi, coming into the game, which we saw is the rest of me for success over and over and over and over again.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: When you just talk about the tackle depth and how that's going to take you
- 5:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it seems like every year there's a position that you start off feeling really good about the depth and then it just disappears into thin air.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_03]: Last year we saw that with the wide receivers, the way that that group was was decimated this year.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we'll see how serious it winds up being, but the tackles are starting to feel like that with the depth that they've lost over there will see how quickly Simmons is, you know, able to get back in there.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: wasn't particularly good looking injury getting rolled up on, but it's one that you could maybe see him getting back this week, but either way, they've got to be better.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, the running backs have to be better and across the board, but they've got to be better blocking up front to create some of those holes.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we saw some what we thought was positive progress
- 6:50[SPEAKER_03]: Asterisk, add that there, and then we saw that it was not going to say a fluke, but certainly something that took a step backwards last week against Texas, and it doesn't get any easier with the defenses that they're going to face.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_03]: So they've got to figure out a way to be more effective on the ground, and it can't just
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good good news is that there are not many defenses left on the schedule as good as Texas is on the high end, but this is all those defenses that might not be front to back all 11 of the guys starting that are as good as what Texas has up the middle, but certainly when you talk about Dylan Stewart on one side and Brian Thomas student on the other Brian Thomas a guy that
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: was in the the next but he is already halfway through the season basically match his career high for sacks match his career high for tackles for loss match his career highs for total tackles he's halfway through the season one of those guys that has played a much bigger role after six of those front seven for South Carolina
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: moved on and in who've in this game last year this is the game that was ultimately the tilting point the splitting point for Oklahoma and stuff the trial i think part of it was like yeah you start the game with three turnovers and it's twenty-one nothing in the game is already over there's gonna be anger from the fanbase from the donors all that stuff but part of it like we talked about was
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: kind of a a game plan that no one really understood, which is why you put in your Titans, heads up with Dylan Stewart, heads up with that South Carolina defensive line, and we've kind of seen so far who've now this Titan group not much better at blocking and I kind of tried to in a way where you're not attacking the coach or going to throw someone under the bus because the coach is going to shut down and not answer the question, but what we talked to been our
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: So your Titans are not getting it done, and the offensive line sucks.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: So how can you, wasn't that negative?
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: But the offensive line's struggling.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: How can you help that group out without your Titans being like a group that's a positive in the run game?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: Were you buying what Ben Arbuckle was selling as far as how they're going to get that done this week?
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: No, I wasn't necessarily buying because that you're going to have to see massive improvement from over the course of seven days and that's not going to happen with a team that has not shown the trend or the tendency to improve over the course of seven weeks, much less seven days.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_02]: And frankly, we're looking at a lot of the same problem that existed last year, the offensive line,
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: Just in general, you have the same old line coach.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: The offensive line does not fire off and hit people, move people on short yardage place.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: And when you go against Texas and you rush for 48 yards and for the game, you average 1.6 for the second half, you average 0.4 yards per carry.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_02]: that's not going to get it done and you know we saw last year I know that a lot of those guys moved on a lot of those guys are in the NFL but we saw last year that South Carolina can play some high-high quality defense.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: If they do that again and if Oklahoma doesn't establish a running game of any kind it's going to be a long day for OU.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: I said this during the OU Texas game and I actually kind of thought about it the week before when they were playing Kent State.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe they need to just go four wides.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they just need to go four wide shotgun and run something called the air raid offense, which is what material, that's the tree that he comes from is the original Mike Leach air raid offense.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: If you need first downs and you gotta move the football, you might have to throw a lot more than you want to in this offense.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: It might be the way for the good is just the offensive line still has been what the group doesn't suck they stink it run blocking they've been fine in passbox and I even thought against Texas Carson in a game where a geometry does get sack five times that I felt like most of that came
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: late in the game post-punt return which Britvittables on Monday night talked about they submitted that into the SEC.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: The SEC was like, yeah, that's our bad.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: A couple missed blocking the back calls obviously pivotal as far as trying to get back into the game.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: But once that happened Carson and it was, you have to throw the football.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know many offensive lines, good batter.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, that can hold up when everyone in the building knows this is what you must do and that you just kind of cut loose.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: But the issue it kind of
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: that is a great thought process and great scheme and things like that up until you have a moment where geometry isn't having a great day and again I think we all understand the reasons why he didn't have a great day against Texas.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: The unknown is how much was the atmosphere environment and being juiced up versus how much it was not practicing for 17 days and
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: But, Carson, that becomes where you get to the reggae.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's just gotta get to a point.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't have to be the nation's best-run game, but it has to be able to let geometry or lean on something else, even if you're going empty or for a while.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, I'm hearing your point about the past blocking.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't dreadful.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like you said, there's going to be more pressure when everybody in this 90,000 person stadium knows that you're throwing the ball.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you're going to see more people in your face much quicker.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: So you can't fault the past blocking too much for that.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's just going to happen.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: Good defenses like Texas are going to do that.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: But the run game, it,
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: The blocking is not there.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: The tight end blocking is not working.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's really mind-boggling at this point that there's still trying to get some of these guys like Xavier Robinson the ball.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't shown anything this year, Jade and not.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: That maybe we thought, okay, he had a decent game against Kent State.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he's going to be a bigger part.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Texas game squashed all of those doubts.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: There was one missed block that he had.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure he even tried to block on that play.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: There were
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to confuse me for a long time just what his role on this team has been and how I very much Don't expect him to be a big player on this offense in the back half of the season.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think they've got a try to lean on Tory Blaylock I think he's been they're most proven back so far Then a bullseye is in the pee potential yesterday is press conference, which maybe that's a little bit too high of a mark to set But I do agree that Blaylock's been good
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: even with the bad offensive line, he's dumb what he can.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think most of the rushing struggles can be blamed on him.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a good back, but I also think that our bucklastic get creative.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: If we've seen some of these swing passes work, the jet sweeps with the guys like D on Berks, I say, Yes, Atania.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they've got some speed and those have worked against Auburn and Michigan.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like those have only worked against Kent State Temple and Illinois State.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: Try to get a little more creative with it because we've seen that this up the middle running things probably not going to work against SEC teams.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, creativity's gonna be the name of the game.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like for a lot of that, which is why you bring in a guy like Ben Arbuckle to a scheme that stuff up.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: If you were watching back things like that, there were receiver scheme to open that Oklahoma had that job material just didn't hit.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: And that was kind of a big part of the material of it all this week, and we'll get to everything that was said there.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: Whether you get the, the Jade Not Conversation, it's like whether you were pulled for,
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: The run play go in that way, which should be on Birx have gone outside.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, does Jade not at some point have to be a football player realized, hey, and Hill is triggering right now like he's going to hit someone right behind me.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I need to like make one step in that direction, try to get his way, sure, but you have the drop pass and then, Janey Carlson asked both Ben Arbuckle and Brent Venables about Jade not on Tuesday.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: And the fact that both Ben Arbuckle and Brent Venables immediately pivoted to talk about Tory play lock,
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: think tells you everything you need to know there are about a was asked about like the running back rotation general and who sets that apron it was kind of just he talked about all throughout practice we really said a lot of that in our personal meetings on Thursday if there's a moment where it's like hey I need J. Jackson and David Stone and here he can he can summon it stuff like that but it really really feels like going forward it's going to be playlock and Zader Robinson it sounds like Xavier's okay from the it sounds like a stinger maybe in
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: uh... we've got that and we have a mystery injury for uh... javante barns preventable said why was javante barns not in the mix of things because he said he pulled up with someone something in pregame i can tell you this
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: So if you watch it all you pregame, you have all of the individual position groups warming up.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then they get together with when we're in the live blog, I just call it like the first team reps in the second team reps.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: So they do the walk through stuff right of, hey, let's spread out, everyone's a basic rat, we throw seven footballs, everyone catch it.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, we hand the ball off, no one's trying to tackle them.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: Blaylock was taking all of the running reps and when material was throwing it, John Tay Barnes was standing right next to him, which means that John Tay Barnes had you have gotten hurt,
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: somewhere between five minutes before going back to the locker room, walking up the ramp and running out onto the field, uh, so we'll see there and take them, break them, we'll talk about, he just had like one thing or another all over the place.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: And it feels like it's got a sideways with vivo or what?
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think you're on tape on this, sorry.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just good, but anyway, uh, he's played four games.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: We'll put leave it there.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good math.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, it feels like I don't buy that either.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_03]: I don't buy that either and the the Tatum talk is a little bit strange given the fact that he hasn't been on an availability report.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_03]: And the way that Brent talked about that, I'm not saying that he certainly was banged up before the season, but it's very clear right now that they're narrowed down on Tory Belaylock and Xavier Robinson as their options there.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: What didn't we get guys last year, I think, maybe?
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: somebody showing up unexpectedly injured and Brent said, yeah, I think it was a hamstring thing.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we've heard this before and it turned out to not be a hamstring thing.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_02]: Refresh my memory or save me here.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: Who am I talking about?
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pretty sure it was last year.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_03]: I'm trying to, I'm a boy can out.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was one of the running backs.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was Vante.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was Vante.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_03]: I think it might have been Javante.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_03]: The thing is, Brett Vinnables can lie to us in that setting and it's okay.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_03]: He can't necessarily lie to the SEC for the availability report and yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_03]: He was not being truly forthcoming.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_03]: I don't believe when he was talking about debates and the injury, the injury, the other day.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'll start with once it was after the main game, remember you heard his foot and it was like hey, does he go back in, he's fine.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: What happened?
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think it wasn't answering the year never played the rest of the year right exactly and I think he said about Barnes, I think it was a hamstring, which was weird.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: We're all like hamstring.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_02]: When did that happen?
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: You also have the, just an honest mistake of a guy being left off the report from the Ole Mish Trip as far as I forget which offensive lineman it was that not making the trip might have been Taylor because that's the game that sexing got hurt and I think but anyway, I digress, full of the story is it's play lock and Robinson going forward, which, um,
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: Tori was asked on Monday night, kind of about like, hey, how hard is it to get into a rhythm?
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: And Tori, great dude, freshman, but great media training, he was basically like, that doesn't matter.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: I need to go in.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: And when I asked him, I asked him, just like, what do you think is missing with the run game?
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: He immediately looked like, I'm not pointing fingers.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't asking you to point fingers.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: I was just asking like, in general, what was like, but good, good teammate.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: I just
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: He did all the stuff that Brent talks about running through trash all that but it felt like you just finally said we're gonna feed one person He gets into a rhythm.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: He can get into the rhythm of like not every play is gonna be blocked up perfectly So he already is in the mindset if I've got to be decisive if I see what I think looks like a whole I've got to hit it I think that's only gonna help John even if
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: the blocking gets significantly better, doesn't get better at all, narrowing it down to saying Tory Blaylock can save it Robinson, YouTube guys are going to have the opportunity to get into the flow of the offense and really build some rhythm, even if it's not fantastic.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's only a positive.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: I would hope that seven games into the season to Mark and Murray has finally identified who his top two run-and-backs are, moving forward, 20-25, and, hey, beyond even, right, a sophomore and freshman.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: You would hope that that's the case.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: Here's my thinking.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: Both of those guys showed last year and this year, several times already this year, that they are capable of getting out of the backfield catching a pass on the run over the shoulder, doing something with it, making people
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: that's what i'm talking about when i say uh... go four wide and you can hit you can include jaren canic in that as a four wide he can be a guy that can come inside or or stretch find a mismatch stretch the defense over the middle of whatever
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: But when you're talking about guys out of the backfield, who have the ability, natural football player ability to catch a football and do something with it, that's part of that, Bob Stoops used to say it all the time.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's an extension of the run game, the little tunnel screen, throw it to a wider receiver, bubble screen, that's throw it to a wider receiver, or canick, or whoever, probably not canick actually.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_02]: probably keep that one going to a wider receiver or run them back.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's part of that's an extension of the running end.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_02]: That was one of the mantras that Mike Leach used to always talk about.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: So when I say four wides and a running back and just get creative, I know our buckle has that in his bag.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: He ought to be able to do that.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: And those two running backs that we're talking about have the ability to do that.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think all of the Titan screens were burned after Seth O'Throwers.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that whole play sheet was set on fire a year ago.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: One thing I love about Xavier Robbs and two, and we've talked about.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: At the end of last year and all that stuff, the his ability to just like fall forward and run through stuff.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was like a really underappreciated set of hands.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think we saw again.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: He only had was at just the one reception against Texas, but it was like a one hand over the shoulder like he halls it and brings it up.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I know that Danny last year when he would talk with us on radio was like, hey, that.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: Zator's awesome.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: He was fumbling early in the year, almost like this is why he wasn't playing early.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: He said he had dropped a couple of passes, but when the lights come on, Zator's hands are like really, really good car.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's an underrated part of just something that maybe because he's a bigger back and we think about him falling forward.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, is he going to catch it?
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like he's in game, at least.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's always shown the ability to make some difficult catches and not disrupt his flow and be able to get moving down field.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and he showed that in the temple game.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know it was late in the game.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: They had already got the game one at that point, but he had a really nice grab took that in kind of bully the defender on his way to the pile on that was really nice play and Robinson.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean his usage has been
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's been minimal so far this year, and when I say that he's maybe someone that hasn't really shown it this year, he hasn't gotten too many chances to be totally fair to him.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen the whole Javansi Barnes thing before his quote, injury that has not gone well.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: Bloodlox looked good for the most part when he's gotten his touches, but Robinson's kind of a question mark because back half of the year obviously, especially in the Alabama game, he looked fantastic.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: I know that his,
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: his catchability, his ability to make people miss in a few yards out from the quarterback catching screen passes.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: That can be huge and that kind of goes into this creativity that I said, but the offense needs for the run game, outlets of the run game, things of that nature.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think Robinson can be a really good weapon.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe if he's not the lead back, maybe he's not getting the most carries, but I think the screen passes the short passes.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think he can be a
- 23:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, by the way, Xavier Robinson, two catches on Saturday and, you know, you look at the play totals.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, he had 28 players against Illinois State, 24 against Temple, but hadn't played much outside of that.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_03]: And to get 20 snaps, the other day, I thought was pretty significant, you know, given everything else that's going on in that running back room right now.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: And remember Saber is one of the guys, remember when we went out to was the third practice of viewing and it was basically like Tory Blaylock and Demarco Murray and that was the Oklahoma running back room as such.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: That was Xavier was one of the guys that had been banged up a little bit there in fall camp.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: So it that kind of contributed to his stop start.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: start to 2025 for lack of better phrasing than there you go there but hopefully it should have everything shaken off from again I think you had a sticker there toward the end of the Texas game but that should be good and none of that matters guys if if Jon material doesn't get back to
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: the guy we saw in the first month of the season, which was by now means perfect, but was more times than not able to know where the ball needs to go, able to make some adjustments at the line in Carson.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: I know that you were there Monday night in the thick of the big massive job material scrub, but what did he kind of say, because on on Sunday, Brent Venables confirmed, he never really got into that good on good work, which is apparently essential to play football games for some people, but from Tuesday to
- 24:48[SPEAKER_03]: some that saturday that was a change in those last week said it was, but right then saturday apparently it's no big deal, which
- 24:58[SPEAKER_03]: was the right decision still for me and that's not a wrong decision, but not saying it was the wrong decision, just wasn't too thrilled with the way he handled it.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_03]: It was disingenuous.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_03]: It was what it was.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_03]: You have that.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_03]: But a lot of people be disingenuous, don't be a jerk and be disingenuous.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: And you can be disingenuous and win.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: You can be disingenuous and win.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: Your disingenuous and get your ass kicked, that's a bad combination.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yeah, you've got to, there's certain paths you can go down and, uh, Brent Venables was, uh, O for three.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's a disingenuous, he was a jerk and they lost.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'll just always remember where I was sitting right next to Abe or when Abe was typing, I don't think that's accurate when when when the binables was doing the good on all that stuff.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: And we had a good laugh.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: We had a good laugh.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: Delaring Turnery L, who was a vote during turnery L being day-to-day, is for us trying to rank the things I don't believe coming from the podium pre-game, that was put up there.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: But regardless, we're on a Cincinnati.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't talk about the impact of days off at practice, not having days off at practice, trying to get back on time.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: What did everything John was to have to say, because yesterday, obviously, Brett Venables and Benarbuckle, fully backed him to get back into the swing of things.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I really liked his mindset that he had at the Scrum on Monday.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: He did not make any excuses pretty much said.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: My hand was a non-factor, even without practice with this much rust.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: I should have been better than that.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: My eyes weren't good.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: My arm wasn't looking good.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: It was a bad game.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: Which part of me is like, I'm not sure how true all of that is like, I think it's pretty evident that there was a big rust factor that played into how we performed.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's very possible that is hand-buged him a little bit more than he or Brent Finnebles were getting off.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: I like the attitude.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of have to do that.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: There are some quarterbacks that wouldn't take that accountability of like, yeah, I just wasn't good.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I like I like that as far as a leadership standpoint.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: I know South Carolina was kind of the sliding point last year, very similar right after the Texas game.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it's here the first five first four games, I guess, for him.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: Not a perfect quarterback whatsoever.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly some mistakes.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that first pick against Texas was very reminiscent to that pick.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: He threw against Illinois State.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: That seems to be a pretty common
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: He just can't have the missing Dionne Berks by 10 yards in the end zone.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: Can't have that.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: You can't have throwing behind Isaiah Centania by a couple yards getting tipped and into a Texas defender's hands.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to have a full week of practice though and that boat's very well.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: He should.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to say he's going to be, but he should be a lot sharper than he was against the long horns.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely a good defensive South Carolina, but it's hard to say that that's a better defense than the one that he faced at the cotton bowl.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like things really can't go a whole lot worse than they did, which that boads well for the offense.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: There's still a lot of talent around him at receiver tied in.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot of growth progression from what we saw in the Red River game to this week at Columbia, another hostile environment.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Carson, we talked about this a little bit in the post game, what tremendous leadership by John Matier to step up in the post game and say, yeah, the thumb didn't bother me.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't rusty.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_02]: He reiterated that on Tuesday, or sorry, Monday.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: He reiterated that Monday night after practice in the media interviews.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: And that's the kind of guy that I wanted to play for.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: That's the kind of leader that I wanted to play for.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's tremendous leadership by your quarterback.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, if an offensive tackle says it, that's great for defensive lineback or something like that says that's great.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: But when you're quarterback stand there, surgical,
- 28:57[SPEAKER_02]: incisions on his thumb still showing and he's saying, yeah, I didn't bother me.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_02]: I just need to be better.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_02]: I love that stuff.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_02]: When I was a senior in high school.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: My classmate teammate, our quarterback broke his hand, broke his index finger.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_02]: It couldn't hold the football.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_02]: And we're sitting here making getting ready to make a playoff round.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: Guess what he did.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: He said, coach, put me a tail back, let's cast this thing up.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'll carry it in my LF-Tan and we can go.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_02]: And he took 69 toss, 61 toss to the left and it was just like that dude.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: We all appreciated him for the leadership and the toughness and the willingness to say, I ain't done.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not done.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing wrong with me.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: Let's move the other guy up to quarterback and he can toss me the football.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: We had a good run and I'm thinking the same thing is going to happen.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think Oklahoma's offense is going to have a good run because of the leadership and the willingness and the toughness and the grip that John material showing.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_03]: So John Hoover is saying, John material is going to move to running back and all the OU running back and running issues are going to be fixed.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it'll be Michael Hawkins running 69 toss out to material taking the ball and cutting up, cutting up field on a on a sweep.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's 100%.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: They, uh, I think a lot of fans would take that at this point.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so that's like getting Hawkins and material both their legs on the field.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: That might be the most effective like duo of runners that we see option speed option all day long.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: Who's going to stop that, huh?
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: As you see, David, this is, um, here is the thing that I think that was lat, we were so focused and this is like we are all more ons or at least time.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: We were so focused on, is he going to get back?
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: Is he going to get cleared?
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: win.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: He played against Michigan when he played against Auburn.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: Was it perfect?
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: No, but the they were prevailing that was like, geometry or can take the step up and take that level of competition up from Washington State to the SEC, and S.C.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: style defense, certainly can play winning football at that level.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: What maybe we overlooked was like,
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: For a guy that's only played two games, plus had one set of one year of practice against an Oklahoma defense at that level where he can't be touched.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: How quickly can he mentally lock back into processing at that speed after missing 17 days where you're fine to get the surgery and come back in and do it all the extra hand therapy and all that stuff.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: So, maybe it's a...
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's blind dates.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think you played really well in the first month of the season, but I do think that he'll build back in and be a lot better.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: And that kind of also tracks with them.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: I know that a lot of people brought up the Jared Gop.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: He played 12 days after the thing.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: And the first day people brought that up.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: It was, and he played poorly.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: And then I think we lost the back.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: Get to that sentence as we went further along, just as,
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: We got in the mix, which I understand, and I was one of those people, but Jared got also played a lot better in that second game that he was back, even though it didn't win that one.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think that material has a pathway to get back to what we saw pretty quickly.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, absolutely.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_03]: There's still plenty of faith in him.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_03]: I agree completely with you who've talking about the leadership element to it in the way that he handled that.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_03]: I think the physical part will come back as as John material returns to a good on good practice.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_03]: here and you know that hand will continue to heal and he'll become or continue to be the quarterback that he was over the first part of the season.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_03]: Now the defenses are a whole lot better that he's facing here in the next you know portion of the season than they were in that early part but still you know John material clearly has the tools to be able to be successful and
- 32:37[SPEAKER_03]: that he will improve and be that guy and be that guy probably sooner rather than later.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_03]: I expect him to take a step forward this week.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_03]: I think the biggest thing for him is though that decision making needs to stay sharp.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_03]: We saw that that faltered a little bit last week at at times and, you know,
- 33:01[SPEAKER_03]: Interceptions, but also that decision making needs to stay sharp because the margin for error gets narrowed significantly with what they're facing, what they faced last week and what they'll continue to face here moving forward.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're right, I agree.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think his processing speed will be faster this week because he'll see it in practice all week.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that speeds you up as a player allows things to slow down a little bit when you're offered whatever was 21 days.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just a matter of, it'll be, I think just a matter of his, he's talked about his eyes.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: We mentioned his, what he's seeing, what he thinks he's seeing, what he's processing.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: When that all starts to settle in, I think he'll be 100% fine.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: Also, another guy just worth noting that Giovanna Gibson's still working his way back in as well, Brent had talked about him again on Tuesday, he was asked just about a guy that was always open in the spring and all that.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: So excited to see not just material work back his way his way back in, but I think we far from seeing the best of Giovanna Gibson through two games basically, just because played what 23 offensive snaps against Kent State, up that to 33 against Texas.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think that'll keep ramping up in.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see that.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: Be sure you're locked in this evening and Thursday evening Friday evening.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, we will have the SEC available to reports, all that stuff.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: I believe Carson's on tonight's up.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: So you'll be looking for the Derek Simmons official status, Logan Hall and how close is he getting back in.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: Just do you want to say Barnes, pop up, stuff like that.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, pretty good health there on the offensive side of all,
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: Someone that's not played a role this year is not Giovanni Gibson, but Jayden Gibson, last we kind of talked about him in the spring, Brittman Wilson mentioned that he'd suffer a little bit of a setback with his injury recovery, still had no update in the summer, well today, Carson Brittman Wilson gave us the update on the Jayden Gibson status moving forward.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Jayden Gibson, per Brent Venables, no longer a part of the program, and his name was listed on the roster still before the SEC teleconference.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: It is no longer there, so he's gone since then on three's Pete Nacco, as I believe it was announced that he's going to be entering the portal, which unsurprising.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: But Gibson, he's someone that OU fans didn't see last year at all because of an injury.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_00]: Venables was not descriptive, he just simply asked, it was Tom Green's question over at two four seven sports.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: Ask him where the heck is Jayden Gibson, Venables is like he's just no longer with us.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: So, not sure why, but Gibson did not play in any of the first six games.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: Biggest season came in 23 when the sooners went 10 and 3.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: He caught, I think, 374 yards, logs, 374 yards on 13 catches, had a handful of touchdowns, since then nothing though and now no longer a sooner.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: something we had talked about when when he went down to an injury in front of it was the patela just a thunder fans know about it.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: It not every injury is the same, but thinking Andre Robertson in that process and I get that plan power forward versus wide receiver, big different all that, but just suck it.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: We always personally enjoyed talking to Jaden Gibson.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: He was always a delight to talk to and he was a guy that they were expecting big things of last year until he went down early in fall camp.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: So sucks for him, but looks like he'll be on the move hopefully he can, a, work his way away back into Plan Football and be able to find a landing spot.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_01]: It reminds me too, John, of Trace Ford a little bit that Trace, the first time we had talked to him,
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: when he he talked about something that went into his transfer is that he was just like man every time I walk out to the practice was like I went down here and I went down there and I went down there and and for him I think it was like liberating to just not have almost like practice with PTSD from injuries that he suffered.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: Jaden Gibson's had a couple of those so hopefully for him a little bit of a maybe a mental refresh and maybe he can get his
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: We, we will see obviously that that was a tough, tough, tough knee injury on Jaden Gibson.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: Flip it over to the defensive side of the ball.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: One of the big storylines this week has obviously been working on some of those small details like Dominic Williams said on Monday night, working on some of the tackling stuff Ryan.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: You wrote about the Miss Tackles and how Roberts for his shinnings and are based on Thomas kind of laid on that grenade after the Texas game, but Brett Vennables had like a really, really long answer about fixing some of the tackling
- 37:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I thought it was interesting and it made me think back to the Alex Grinch Lincoln Riley days when we were asking about tackling pretty well constantly.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_03]: This defense has been fantastic this year.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_03]: There's no, you know, two ways about it.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_03]: But I think because they've been so good in every other area that some of the tackling issues have been sort of glossed over and not that they've been horrible tackling to this point but they haven't been at a level.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I wrote about it the other day.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_03]: They're in the top 10,
- 38:21[SPEAKER_03]: in pretty much every defensive category when you look at the NCAA stats and the stuff that they keep track of.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_03]: But then you look at the tackling on pro football focus and it's way back in the 60s and it just hasn't been as sharp but they've been in such good position that even when they miss tackles those guys are generally getting pulled down, you know, a yard or two later
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: So it's something that has to be fixed or has to be improved upon here moving forward.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_03]: Again, you know, I've said this, it seems like every time I talk today, the schedule gets a whole lot harder here, moving forward and starting last week and they've got to be sharper at those things because
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: you know that one in two yards can turn to three and four and five and then that that can turn into you know busted plays really quickly and generally the guys that struggled last week are Mason Thomas Robert Spears Jennings I think Kobe McKinsey had to if I'm not mistaken as well those have generally been guys who have been pretty sharp overall
- 39:34[SPEAKER_03]: So they need to get better and stay on top of it because if the offense takes a step back then that defense is just going to have to pick up even more slack and those things are going to get magnified.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's the good news there is like Dominic Williams talked about the details multiple times.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's like details details details that is just to that on Monday night and of course you wrote about it today.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, open suitors on s i dot com is the website always free containing the North sellers like for Oklahoma's deep into if you want to get back out there and get after it.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: Rush Lane Integrity, making sure you bring a guy down as opposed to letting them escape the pocket off to his right and roll and throw down field.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to write all those wrongs you've thought you had against Texas, it feels like a really good situation in South Carolina because, well, I think we all really, really like Lamar of Sellers a lot.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: The stuff around them hasn't gone as well.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_01]: This offense is in the hundreds and rushing offense.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: Hundreds and total offense.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: They're a little bit better than that in scoring offense because they score on special teams.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about it here in a minute.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: But it feels like it's almost the perfect get right opportunity because it's a quarterback that didn't really like torchy torchy last year because you didn't have to when you're up to one nothing in a flash.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: But a guy that is good enough to command everyone's attention while also
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: asking some of the same questions that Texas asked.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: Taylor Wein talked about it on Monday night saying that it's, there's things that we use defense can learn from playing arch-maning one week before and now playing Linaura sellers, both bigger quarter, but facts, both can run the ball, obviously different kind of weapons, but there's some similarities to just with the size, what they can do with their legs.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it's worth noting though that Texas also had kind of a limping offense coming into the Red River rivalry game.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: Arshmanning had not been great.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_00]: And, oh, he used defense.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: Made him look awesome.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: Even if a lot of it was contributing on Weissner, Manning did his job very accurate.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: He used his legs a couple of times.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: Winora Seller stats are not as eye popping as they were last year.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of that is the product of some dysfunction around him.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: I know South Carolina just fired their offensive line coach.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: So their offense isn't perfect, but we know the player that Winora Seller's can be.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: When he gets even a window of time, he can be really dang good.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's quick, he has a lot of arm talent, probably a first round pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be a challenge and the defense needs to just take as many of those negatives that popped up in the Texas game, whether that's tackling past rush coverage.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: Use those
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: use those or from those, get whatever coaching you can from BV about that and just apply it to stopping a weapon like when we're a sellers.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you guys, I was kicking around in the South Carolina game notes and I found an interesting statistic in the 100 and whatever year history of the National Football League, there's been three South Carolina GameCock quarterbacks who have won a game in the NFL.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_02]: Some dude named Bill Troop.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not familiar with that name.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_02]: Anthony Wright actually covered some of his games with Cowboys.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_02]: And a young man by the name of Spencer Rattler is the latest game cock to win a football game in the National Football League.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to change pretty soon when Lenora Sellers gets in the league.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, he's really good.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: I did hear a couple of comparisons this week that stunned me a little bit.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_02]: When I think on Monday night, Brent said he reminded him at times of a guy by the name of Adrian Peterson, and then the comparison of Cam Newton came up on Tuesday at the press conference.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, okay, hold on.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, hold on.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_02]: Tap the brakes a little bit.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_02]: He's good.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_02]: He's really good.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if he's a generational talent, like those guys are, come on.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_02]: So Oakloam has got a chance full on defense, Abraham, what you said before about the Miss Tackles is a hundred percent right.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: You would have throughout the first five or six games they covered it up beautifully.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_02]: You would have a guy miss a tackle or six yards deep in the backfield and he would squirm his way for another two yards or three yards or four yards and it would still be a tackle for lost because there's eight guy standing around and dragging him to the ground.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_02]: But the first one missed him.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's been kind of percolating a little bit.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: And then we saw miss officially 10 tackles against the long horns.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think on the Oklahoma Breakdown podcast, Teddy Laman said he saw 12.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: I would probably create a little harder and probably say 15.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_02]: But we'll go with PFF and call it 10.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Teddy said he had 20.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_01]: And he was craving, like,
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then Teddy was like, and maybe I was angry grading a little bit out there, but here's just going to be really, really important, though.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: It is need to be able to get out of that because Jacob's set of times leading receiver six foot.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: He's one of those big body guys.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Harbor incredibly fast and six five.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: And wow, this is not disrespecting Nick Harbor.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's like Cam Coleman because there's only like one can Coleman out there in college football and a couple guys like in in that bracket.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: Despite the fact that they've struggled, they've still got the physical tools of if you let Lenore sellers drift out and you're not, you don't keep that wrestling integrity, like he will have some targets that are the type of player that have kind of hurt Oklahoma's secondary at times this year.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: When you think back to a Coleman type situation, things like that.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think that's really, really, really important.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like you guys mentioned though, South Carolina, Oklahoma, I think Brett Vittables mentioned this,
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: Excuse it, but he's like, you look around the SEC and I did not realize that there are some other teams that you might not expect that are in the neighborhood of us when he was talking about like the rushing issues that they had Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, South Carolina, all in the bottom 40 and rushing yards per game of college football.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think Brett Minibles is taking any
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: One thing Oklahoma has not been good at, and that's been against Texas certainly, and it was magnificent against Texas.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: Might as not end for the season.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: Turnover margin, not, they only got the two against Kent State, and when you just talk about, you know, intersection here, intersection there, a flood on a pond, things like that.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: South Carolina, the reason that they are not in the hundreds in total, or scoring offense, excuse me, where they're rest of some of their offensive metrics are, because they're turn to the ball over, they're turn to the ball over to really high rate, and I think Bertwood will said they're plus 12,
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: haven't like triple checked on that, but when you look at the special teams, which they have had three different touchdowns scored, non-offensive touchdowns, thanks to special teams, things like that.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_01]: A, where it's the older, we're just going to slap Beamerball on it, but it's accurate.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: South Carolina is good in some of the at the margin, special teams, stuff like that.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and that's exactly what you expect out of a Beamer Coach team, whether that's Shane, whether it's Frank, and they've been really good at being able to cover up
- 46:59[SPEAKER_03]: uh... some some things with uh... special teams play in the turnovers unfortunately i was trying to look up the turnover margin and uh... the the NCAA site is not cooperating with me uh... two seconds on the display site the NCAA site i understand it goes down when they update it has been down more this year than it ever has been before and i just hope everything's okay at the NCAA office that's all
- 47:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, it's, you know, it would be a shame if they didn't have enough money to, you know, pay the, the web developers to get this thing in there, but
- 47:38[SPEAKER_03]: Luckily for us, sports reference still is up, and they've only, you know, turned the ball over six times, themselves, created force 12 turnovers, recovered four fumbles, eight interceptions for the game cocks, so certainly something to watch there.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: with some of the interception issues that Oklahoma's offense has had, but yeah, they've had an interception in every game this year, except for one, that'd be in the South Carolina state game.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_03]: So they have, and they've had two on the three occasions.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_03]: So certainly, something to watch this weekend, their ability to,
- 48:19[SPEAKER_03]: You know, get the ball back and any time you have the ball in the North Seller's hands, even though they're offensive struggled, you know, hasn't been as good overall as maybe it was last year.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_03]: They can still be dangerous.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_02]: uh... guys watch out for forget about the norsellers for a minute he might not ever see the football of vicarious whiny is returning ponds did you see he's got three punt return touchdowns this year two in one game three touchdowns in one season on punt returns is the most in the nca since twenty seventeen a guy can fly so he's he's a real problem
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I swaned someone that broke it was highlighted both on deep hits and on special teams that I think brinches just talking in turnovers force that might have just nine as far as like turnovers that have occurred for Oklahoma.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: You'll get it to between sway between dealing with between Brian Thomas it's going to be one of the things Carson where that this is.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_01]: When Brittenmanibles talks about like the SEC one possession league and obviously he had the tangent that got him in trouble.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: Question mark by the big twelve I guess, which I'm sorry.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: I just have no thoughts on either everyone gets to have vote on Twitter I guess whether you want to pick the two thousand to two or two or just the 22 23 whatever you want there
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: this is this is the difference right on the bad teams the big twelve you don't often have a swaying a steward a Thomas a harbor like stuff like that it doesn't matter who you're getting an SEC play much less a soft Carolina team that the Oklahoma's trying to get as look back against.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think they're letting Bolls be do the do the Twitter for the big 12 this this no he doesn't know how to tweet by a job he can figure it out is it is it and it can we assume it's and then in turn then doing the Twitter account.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_02]: I like to imagine you don't think it's your mark standing there doing a little oh yeah this is going to get them you don't think it's your mark being a it's not Brett your mark.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_02]: But he signs off on it, he signs off on it.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly, this is the kind of thing, sort of get off in a tangent, this is the kind of thing that Brett Yormar wanted to bring.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_03]: And the games in Mexico, the games overseas, the entertainment factor when you talk about the championship belts and the concerts and all that stuff.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_03]: I sort of thought it was funny if nothing else, but the Big 12 had a point and certainly made it, but
- 50:55[SPEAKER_03]: Brent Venibals had a point too in what he was saying.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_03]: And there was a not, you know, in significant amount of time where the only thing Oklahoma had to worry about was Texas in early October, and if they were able to take care of that, they were going to be able to win the league.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, not the case at the end, certainly, but it was the case for a long, long time in the big 12.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for 20 years, Bob Stoop ruled the big 12, 14, and tack on Lincoln Riley 14, conference championships in 28 seasons.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's that's absurd.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody should dominate a league like that and Oklahoma did it forever.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_02]: And Benables took it was a big part of that.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_02]: He was the associate head coach for, you know, after Mike Stoop's left.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_02]: He was the defensive coordinator after Mike Stoop's left.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_02]: He was a part for
- 51:49[SPEAKER_02]: seven of those conference championships, you know, big part, a major part of those seven conference championships.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_02]: So we, you're talking about a team that rolled through conference play for 20 years.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_02]: I averaging 25 points per conference victory.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean,
- 52:03[SPEAKER_02]: They, as he said, they destroyed people.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's not available to them anymore in the SEC.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_02]: That was his point.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_02]: That was a hundred percent valid.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think he took a necessarily a shot at the big 12.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_02]: I just think he was saying, hey, this ain't like it used to be for us, for Oklahoma.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_02]: But I do applaud the big 12 for clapping back.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I think they should be applauded for that.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: But clap back with something that's relevant.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
- 52:28[SPEAKER_02]: Brent's record as a head coach in 2022 and 23 has nothing to do with what he said quote the old days of the big 12 the big 12 old days that that's too total that's like I know you are but what am I don't have anything to do with anything why why would you bring that up and it's true it's 100% true and he should be taken down for it but that particular fact is not germaning to the argument that he's making
- 52:53[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's not, but you also clap back with the information that's available to you.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_03]: The information that's available to the Big 12 and to whoever's right in their social media team is Brent Venibule's record against the league and
- 53:11[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's not relevant to the point, but the whole thing is the point doesn't matter at that point.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's, you know, what have you done for me lately?
- 53:23[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, what Brent Vennables did for the Big 12 lately was, you know, not much anything.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, especially in the discussion of one possession games.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's where that's the question that very asked.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, oh God, he's three and six in one possession games in his last two years in the big 12, he'd better not go too far down that rabbit hole.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_02]: But he did.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: I personally look forward to the big 12 tweeting about Kansas record and NCAA tournament games in five years when they leave for the big 10 and the big 12 just is a corkist that's being dragged to and for all across middle America, but that's neither here nor there.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: The moral of that story Carson is fun athletes this week in a game that Oklahoma
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely has to have.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of those things, Carson, right?
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: If you told anyone coming out of OU Texas, you're five and one, they would have just blindly taken it at the start of the year.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_01]: Much like, I think most of us picked Oklahoma to go for an O in the month of August plus September, but the way the defense was playing, it felt like a little bit different.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of those things that the way the offense didn't perform against Texas leaves an extra sour taste in your mouth,
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's only one loss.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody freak out.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: All that stuff only applies if you could win this game, because if you can't win this game, that applies the worst team left on Oklahoma schedules.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_01]: Plain and simple, they're not a bad team, but they're the worst team left.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I agree with that, and it's one of those things that this is such a necessary game to win, considering how some of those wins have aged.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_00]: Michigan looks a little bit fraudulent at this point after getting absolutely clobbered by USC this past week, and yes, on the road.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: But that's still a good, not great, USC team that they lost by 20 points too.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: Auburn, they're up and down, looks like their defense is pretty legit, held George in the 20, but at the same time, they're 33, I mean,
- 55:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you have good wins, they don't have great wins yet.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure South Carolina the way they look would be a great win, but it's necessary to be a team that I know Aver and I talked about this in a availability last week that the rumors of South Carolina's downfall may be a little bit exaggerated.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is still a good football team, Shane Beamer, still a very good coach.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's not an easy game to win, especially at a place like William's Brice, but it's when they should win.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_00]: They are the better team, material assuming he's a little bit less rusty.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_00]: This is a game that they should win when they need to win, just because six and one, a lot better than five and two, especially with Bama, Missouri, Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, all still on the schedule.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that is a gauntlet.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: Any of those would be great wins later in the season, so getting a good win is the first way to get on the right path, get some momentum before playing against all of those stellar teams.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be huge, car style, be out there.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_01]: Just a heads up, not that anybody cares.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: I know that we usually like, time stamp, the live blog during the game.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_01]: I tried it, mentally keep those times central times since most of us are reading it from central time.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: If I get those wires crossed with Hube and A, we're never everybody who's helping us out with coverage from back home.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: my bad.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: That one's going to be on the 11.45 central is the kickoff time there.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: SEC network is the station.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: We also now know officially we knew the Ole Miss game was going to be in the early window.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_01]: Much like the South Carolina game wasn't going to be 11.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_01]: It was going to be 11.45 was the designation.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma will take on Ole Miss.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_01]: the following Saturday at 11 a.m.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_01]: that game will come on a bc will have a three of us there at the squad.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_01]: You per use.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_01]: I believe we will see as we get closer there.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_01]: If you see cars tonight out about in Charlotte on Friday night, first off, great spot.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_01]: I guess, uh, that feels like a very narrow group, but say what's up, we'll be bouncing around.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be going in and out and experiencing the state fair of South Carolina, I suppose.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: So we got back to back to back state fair weekends if you happen to catch the happenings in Oklahoma before we headed out there.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: We'll have all the usual stuff.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma suitors.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: on at side.com for all the written content.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_01]: We'll have all the videos from everybody that speaks.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_01]: So that fun stuff, Carson's highlights as well.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_01]: As per usual, we had to, who's YouTube page, John Hoover Media.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_01]: That will be a good spot to catch everything from the trip out to South Carolina.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_01]: We're not done with that today, though.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_01]: Depending on when you're listening to this, if you're listening to it, Wednesday and it's before about 7 p.m., I will be at Love's Field for Oklahoma and Oklahoma Christian, the second.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_01]: team, the team, scrimmage, I guess, or exhibition, Oklahoma is at East Texas A&M last week.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_01]: We'll have everything there as far as the live updates if you're interested in some of that games not being streamed.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'll also have some takeaways from that and then after the game we were scheduled to talk with Patty gas about her squad.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_01]: So you will have that video, John, who from Media on YouTube and on the website.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: Thursday, I'll have like a full story from all Patty Squelts.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_01]: But if you know me, I will be on the radio at 6 a.m.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_01]: the next day and
- 58:25[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry to make everyone wait, I get it.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_01]: Friday night also battle series contest, since I'll be in Charlotte, we're gonna surprise Patty Gasseau with the great Ryan Aber, and she's gonna be like, I thought we got rid of you, what is happening?
- 58:38[SPEAKER_01]: He'll also have Bluy blog, he'll have some takeaways, all that stuff.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_01]: So that one is a battle series game, inner squad scrimmage, tonight's Wednesdays is a Oklahoma Christian, tinnoning exhibition.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like we said, all that stuff up on the website,
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: dot count it's a busy Wednesday around it's as you see media days for basketball who's going to have the coverage there for both Porter Moser and Geneva on check John.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: We saw the Oklahoma the secret scrimmage against Texas tech which the scrimmages are neither secret I guess the are scrimmages, but their secret scrimmages and we find out immediately after how that thing went Oklahoma.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_01]: Up ends, the Texas Tech Red Raiders Nigel Pack sounds like he had a really, really nice day.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_01]: The suitors are going to do something really, really fun.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_01]: Something I'm looking forward to, John.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: Usually these exhibitions, you bring a Roger state or something like that.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_01]: And we need to see everybody, which is great.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_01]: But little bit of an NIA element, they're headed over to Pfizer forum where the box player are going to take on what's constant.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's not this Friday, but next Friday, I believe.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_01]: Very, very excited to see that caliber of team.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_01]: for competition in an exhibition of what should be a fun year on both the men's and women's basketball side with expectations heightened for both teams, while in last year.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I agree.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's going to be a fun season for Oklahoma basketball fans.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking forward to getting hearing with hearing from Porter tonight this afternoon.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think they speak at 4 or 10 or 420
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_02]: this afternoon from SEC media days, uh, and I look forward to hearing from him, uh, you know, an official capacity of talking about the rebuilt roster and the number of newcomers he's got, the transfers, the stars, um, because I did take a look at the all SEC team, nobody, no sooners on the first team, no sooners on the second team, no sooners on the 13.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I think I'll use pick the finish 12th and the league this year.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_02]: So I will be eager to see what Porter
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_01]: We, of course, I decided for, you'll be doing a ton of ton of our men's basketball stuff again, which should be fun, that's a group that rallied toward the end of last year and certainly a much different vibe as far as the portal goes, I don't know if that's a tray young, his donation plus everybody else getting involved, or if that's just the the university making a concerted effort to really, really back Porter or a little bit of both, but it certainly, it,
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_01]: It just feels a lot different when you're talking about where we're not having to project a bunch of these guys.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's hey, can I jump out, get back from injury?
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, can guys step up into a bigger role from like Alabama to Oklahoma as opposed to some of the other spots?
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_01]: And it should be a team that is much more athletic and can really hang athleticism wise with the competition they're going to see in the South Eastern Conference.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think the buy-ins pretty high right now, and we talked about early in January, I know when SEC play got off to a really rough start.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe there's some blame to point Porter Moser's way.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_00]: On the flip side, he deserves a lot of credit for how the team it ended last season.
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, even the NCAA tournament, yes, they lost first ground.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_00]: Also to the defending national champion, though, they kept close in that game, finished really strong in conference play, and really cemented their status as a tournament team.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, Fierce was good, yes, Jalen Moore, great player, great athlete.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_00]: I really like what they did, just kind of revamping this team with the portal, losing some guys in the portal.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_00]: Duke Miles, I think finally settled on his fifth portal destination, but that's here nor there.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think this team should be pretty fun this year's area on Reed, that's someone I'm very excited to see a little bit of this year.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_00]: Nigel Pack, Tay Davis, it's a good class, and I think this team's going to be at the very least competitive and should be on the favorable side of the tournament, but that's still several months out, so I don't want to make too many bold predictions about OU best, but quite yet.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at the batch of Kim Palm stuff, they were projected to be about the same spot that they've been in a couple of these years, which was like a fringe team going in, but we'll see, obviously, just from the jump, it feels like a much more capable guy as far as getting that up to speed.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_01]: On the other side of things, GD Braun, check and crew, they'll be going here pretty shortly as well.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_01]: Abraham, I'll have a ton of that for you.
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_01]: This year got Reagan Bears, Peyton Verhol, Sahara Williams, that's the trio that headed out to Birmingham.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_01]: Bingo's cross, it looks like Aver, we might get our first chance to talk with those players as well as top overall recruit Alia Shapas here early next week.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's not official, so please don't nobody tell on me for saying that allowed, but I'm hoping that we're approaching that, which again, whether you look at ESPN's preseason poll Aver, or the preseason AP Top 25, Oklahoma comes in at number six in the preseason, which last year, so much of it was
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_01]: Raising expectations with Reagan beers, it feels like this is the you made it to the sweet and 16.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_01]: Now, how far can you go, especially if you get the correct seeding A, where you could go, Norman for the first two rounds, two chances to land in a fort worth bracket to try and punch your ticket to get out the Phoenix and really make it to a final form.
- 1:03:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, this is a team that, you know, not going to say final four or bust, but certainly like the sweet 16 last year was sort of the overall arching goal, yes, you want to make it to the final four, but the sweet 16 felt like a good benchmark for that team.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_03]: This, this team, it's sort of the floor, and
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_03]: And they bring back virtually everybody from last year, obviously lose a Skyler van there, but you had to leave a Chavez and you had, you know, I think Zia van a certainly position to make a leap after last year, I think Reagan beers can add some elements to her game and the way that it took a while last year
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_03]: them to sort of acclimate around her and her to acclimate to Jenny Baranchic system.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think this team has potential to be much better defensively overall.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe we'll see how much they protect the ball better.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_03]: I know the turnovers are just sort of a by-product at times of Jenny Baranchic system, but this should be a really fun team to watch.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_03]: and a team that can go at you so many different ways and you know they've got a chance to be really special and I think you know certainly not going to say that they're going to be a final four team but they've got a chance if things fall right and they progress the way that they've got an opportunity to to make a run like that.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_01]: I would not say no to finally getting my trips to the camel back because Oklahoma football's not delivered that before they end the festival ties and all that stuff.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_01]: So who's ready to breath?
- 1:05:28[SPEAKER_03]: Because I've never been, you know,
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_03]: Eric Bailey and I, that's our big the point of contention that we've never been to the camel back.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, if they go to Phoenix for the final four guys, it's going to be a party.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be a sooner zone SI party because I am going.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_02]: I am unretiring and I'm going to spend a week in Phoenix.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think you may have to tag along to for me.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_02]: You'll be there.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it sounds about right there.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_00]: Careful.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, but the size of the rooms at the camel backway might all just be able to pile in, right?
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_01]: especially if who goes back to the dasky pair of liens.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_01]: I am under well.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_02]: I am completely under well by this room.
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_02]: Well, hey, you don't get to be lifetime titanium by rolling over and taking it from Mary on.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_02]: You got to tell him, you got to stand up for yourself.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_02]: What is true?
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_01]: One day, I'm gonna assemble the list of like road stories that who have to tell so that like the podcast knows, who've just watched around just because I will take your penthouse, please and thank you, and they give them the penthouse with the mountain views.
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_02]: But Ryan, you'll come to appreciate this someday, I hope, but I'll tell you this before, all the road trips I've taken in 40 years, all the road trips.
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_02]: I've never come back and said that was a terrible road trip.
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_02]: I did not have a good time, that sucked.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_02]: I have always had a good time on these road trips when I go with you guys, hang out with you guys, make memories with you guys, and I promise you.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_02]: Every road trip.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_02]: I heard you talking last week about, oh, I gotta go to South Carolina.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, let me South Carolina's awesome.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_02]: Starkville is awesome.
- 1:07:07[SPEAKER_02]: Go and have a good time.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's all about man positive mental image, guys.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_03]: And here's the deal with that also.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_03]: So many times, you go to a place that you don't think really highly of.
- 1:07:17[SPEAKER_03]: 100% and then you find either a great place to eat.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_03]: If we're just a really cool community,
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think to Spokane, when OU men's basketball went there in 14, and there were so many great options that year.
- 1:07:34[SPEAKER_03]: OSU got sent to San Diego, and I was so jealous of John Hellsley at the time at the Oklahoma and getting to go to San Diego and was grumbling about Spokane for a variety of reasons.
- 1:07:46[SPEAKER_03]: Spokane was phenomenal.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_03]: at a found some great little places there.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_03]: The downtown was fantastic.
- 1:07:54[SPEAKER_03]: So hopefully Columbia can be a place like that for you Ryan Chapman this week.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_02]: Spoken was phenomenal and I'll tell you another quick story on that selection Sunday.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_02]: I've covered in the Razerbacks and I'm sitting there 99, 99, 99 season, I'm sitting there going, looking at the TV going in the conference, the newsroom,
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_02]: uh... break room basically refrigerators and sinks going on people are making coffee and upset and they're going please not boys he please not boys he please not boys he razor backs went to boys he and i'm like what the turn out to be the only of the eight regionals that weekend the only one unbelievable where the sun was shining
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_02]: it was raining or wick snowing at every other reason.
- 1:08:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I went skiing up on a bogus basin on the off day and the Arkansas razor back cheerleaders were up there skiing and they were like who are you?
- 1:08:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like I'm the Tulsa World Arkansas reporter and I was hanging out with the Arkansas cheerleaders.
- 1:08:50[SPEAKER_02]: It was the coolest trip of all the NCAA trips and I'm sitting there going please not voicing.
- 1:08:55[SPEAKER_02]: So yes, every trip you take, you young guys especially, every trip you take,
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_01]: It is what you make it and you're gonna have a great time and Columbia this weekend guys and I'm glad we have a boss that approved some gotty expense reports Thank you Because we do not skimp on the what's the best restaurant you guys have in town.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, please We'll be in Charlotte.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited for the Charlotte.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_01]: I've never been to like I've been to Charlotte airport a couple times but never stepped outside of the airport in Charlotte
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_01]: So pretty town.
- 1:09:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's a very pretty city.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_03]: Well, whatever you find to eat their Ryan, there's no way it would be better than the dinner we had last Thursday before he all headed down the down I 35.
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_01]: That was good except for the fact that we were sitting there going.
- 1:09:42[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we just, a job material has been upgraded in half of the students on the side of the side of the page is like something our face at modern, where it's like, well, okay, so we'll see that there.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_01]: All of that to say, very excited for the last class season.
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_01]: Can't wait for that thing to get going.
- 1:09:56[SPEAKER_01]: My two big questions really for not just the biggest ones, like how good canily a shot has to be immediately, but
- 1:10:03[SPEAKER_01]: What is going to kind of rub off on her this year when you have this bridge of Peyton Verholst, Reagan Bears, you're still going to have Sahara next year with her, but it's like almost going to turn over and be a Lea Plus, like veteran seniors, Sahara, stuff like that.
- 1:10:18[SPEAKER_01]: Then the other question which was like way more minus, who's going to be the back of five?
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_01]: Because let's Scott was, I thought I really key like you have a very experienced piece there.
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_01]: that you could rely on if Reagan got in a foul trouble or things like that.
- 1:10:31[SPEAKER_01]: So it's also important to remember last year that Reagan and A. were, you know, this Reagan went down in preseason camp, which kind of shortened the time that she had to actually get acclimated to Jenny's system and there are players around.
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully you will see some improvement there, especially when it comes like turnovers and outlet passes, entry passes, excuse me, stuff like that, because that's not going to have been an issue throughout this preseason so far.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's going to be fascinating to watch, you know, how that depth factor plays out.
- 1:10:58[SPEAKER_03]: You talk about who's going to be the back at five, to be at your skeleton, take a step forward.
- 1:11:04[SPEAKER_03]: We saw some really good things from her, especially at the end of last year, but they've got some intriguing freshmen there as well, including six, three Brooklyn Stewart.
- 1:11:15[SPEAKER_03]: From Colorado Springs, OU has sort of developed a women's basketball pipeline.
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_03]: They're the Colorado with the Reagan beers.
- 1:11:24[SPEAKER_03]: I've seen it come straight from Colorado, but a Colorado product.
- 1:11:27[SPEAKER_03]: And then the French woman.
- 1:11:33[SPEAKER_03]: I guess you would say, you know, we'll see how big of role she winds up playing, but it's going to be fascinating to hear Jenny baron chick talk about that today hopefully next week and then to see how it starts playing out early in the season because I think.
- 1:11:51[SPEAKER_03]: She has a reputation among coaches that's really positive for a reason and what part of that is the way that she's able to to bring her teams along during the part of the season where not very many people are paying attention to.
- 1:12:06[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think it's going to be fun to pay attention to that portion of the season because of that this year.
- 1:12:19[SPEAKER_03]: uh... they are they're both on the roster right now so why we've got uh... we uh... uh... uh... island prospect from virginia island i didn't know where virginia island was but apparently uh... virginia island and uh... defa sysoko and there's zero chance on pronouncing that correctly from uh... draw veil
- 1:12:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I've heard of Ferris the soko correct the rest of it will work on it.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_01]: This is where my soccer background comes in handy like I've seen all of the unfair advantage here.
- 1:13:00[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen all this before.
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_01]: So, everything, Jenny Broncheck, Porter Moser, everybody has to say who will have it, Oklahoma Sooner's onsi.com.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_01]: Is the place to be unlikely set?
- 1:13:09[SPEAKER_01]: As we get some local media days firing up.
- 1:13:12[SPEAKER_01]: We're about to be right in the thick of it, crossover season Thunder Tip Off officially next Tuesday.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_01]: We'll have some exhibition basketball at the end of the week and we will be in the thick of it per use, Oklahoma Sooner's onsi is the place to be friends.
- 1:13:24[SPEAKER_01]: Is that cover ever, have I missed anything, boys?
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think that gets,
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_01]: Russell Westbrook's Sacramento Kings.
