- 0:00All right, a day in the shop with the herminator.
- 0:03What are you doing over there, Brody?
- 0:04I have. Checked in spark.
- 0:06I just swapped engines on my cart and just want to make sure
- 0:09all the electrical. 'S working right?
- 0:10OK, so show us how what you're doing there so.
- 0:13Hold the spark plug out of the head.
- 0:15Hooked it up. Grounded onto a bolt.
- 0:18And then let's see it's in. Gear.
- 0:21Oh, I see it. Yeah, We got a we got a spark in
- 0:24there. So that means your ignition's
- 0:26working. You have fire.
- 0:28Yeah. Good stuff.
- 0:29OK, so we're going to do a nice little show for you today.
- 0:34Brody is my son-in-law. Brody is married to my youngest
- 0:39daughter, Brittany. And this is Brody's company,
- 0:42Fusion Carts. These carts are extremely
- 0:46famous, especially on the West Coast.
- 0:49The people that made them famous really was Kyle Larson, Rico
- 0:52Abrew. But yeah, so Brody races the
- 0:55hell out of these, and he builds them.
- 0:57So if you want an outlaw cart, go to Fusion Carts.
- 1:01He does them all right here. And John Werner, John's over
- 1:05here. John, what are you doing today?
- 1:09B Nuts and tires. Those are nice Van K wheels.
- 1:13Yeah, Brody helped design those. You guys are getting ready to go
- 1:17racing it looks like Oklahoma. Oklahoma.
- 1:20All right, so we share the shop. I love Brody, love John.
- 1:24We work well together and before I show you what I'm doing, let's
- 1:29go over to Brody's jig shop where he literally bends the
- 1:32tubing, welds them. I mean, Brody does everything.
- 1:36So over here now, one thing I love about my new lights, the
- 1:44LED lights, they are motion sensor.
- 1:48So if you watch this over here, it's dark here, but watch
- 1:55they're little motion sensor out there.
- 1:58We're cheap asses. So you know, I'd show up.
- 2:02We call this the fabrication area, which you've all watched
- 2:04these videos before, but you haven't seen this.
- 2:06And so if you look close, you can see that a a go Kart.
- 2:12Here's the out outline of a go Kart and that's Brody.
- 2:14Come on over here. This is the man of the hour.
- 2:18So you've got 2 go Kart jigs here.
- 2:21Explain what's going on. Talk to the camera.
- 2:23So on this side I'm like 3/4 of the way done but so our open
- 2:28intermediate frames are built and then on this side is our box
- 2:33stock frames. As you can see I'm I'm rolling
- 2:35on the open stuff right now but I I pre bend all my tubing and
- 2:41it doesn't look like it's sorted but I know what everything is
- 2:44and then I just jig it up and notch it and Weld it together.
- 2:49Yeah, so being crafty with your space, so actually this is where
- 2:55the right rear tire would go. The driver sits here and then
- 2:59over here. You turned it around, right?
- 3:02This is a box stock. This is for a younger children.
- 3:04These are for the young kids. Yeah.
- 3:06And this is the front up here, right Rd.
- 3:08Yeah, that way if one day I have somebody helping me, 'cause I do
- 3:12everything right now, but we don't get in each others way
- 3:15because there's a process. I start at one end and work my
- 3:17way to the other. And if two of us are working in
- 3:20the future, we won't be running each other over.
- 3:23Brody's a badass. He has saved my life.
- 3:26He's helping me in the shop. I Just a shout out to Mittler
- 3:29Brothers, Mike Mittler. We lost Mike, but he designed a
- 3:32lot of stuff. Brody, tell me about this tubing
- 3:34Notcher up. I talked to Mittler Brothers
- 3:36today. Yeah.
- 3:38So it cut my time like I I can't even measure how much faster it
- 3:42is to notch tubing. Before I was putting it in a
- 3:44drill press and then finishing it with a barrel Sander and I
- 3:48can notch a tube in like no time at all.
- 3:51So this is the vice. I just put it in there.
- 3:55I'm not going to do it cuz I don't know all my angles right.
- 3:57But it's adjustable this way. It's adjustable height wise.
- 4:00You lock it down, turn it on, feed it in.
- 4:04Ends up and it ends up kind of like that.
- 4:07But shout out to our buddies out here in Wright City, out towards
- 4:10Saint Charles. I know this is going all over
- 4:13the world, but Wright City, MO, this is a this thing is very
- 4:17famous and all the NASCAR teams have them.
- 4:20But thank you, Brody. Yeah.
- 4:25OK. Let's see what the Hermitators
- 4:28up to today. Charlie caught me at the right
- 4:31time, said he's coming over around 2:00.
- 4:34So I've been doing all the maintenance on the car and we're
- 4:39coming down to the very end. I packed the rear wheel
- 4:42bearings, but Charlie walked in. I said oh good timing.
- 4:47What I'm going to show you I'm doing today.
- 4:50I'm checking the right front pressure on my spring.
- 4:54The the verbiage we use Ford in racing is load.
- 4:58It is a load means the pressure on a spring.
- 5:02So a lot of people will go what kind of loads you're running?
- 5:06Well, the load means the pressure on the right front
- 5:08spring, the left front spring, the right rear spring, you know
- 5:13the pressure on the spring. So we've got a great company
- 5:18right here, Weirs out of out of Wisconsin, Chad Weirs.
- 5:22This is a really good piece of equipment and the sensor is
- 5:28right here, right behind the Wheeler.
- 5:32This this measures the pressure. OK, that's called a sensor.
- 5:37And and and then this controls this is an actuator and that
- 5:42tells me how many inches I'm smashing it.
- 5:45So I'm going to get you to the 50 yard line, but I'm not giving
- 5:51you a home run. But this is a really crafty
- 5:54piece of equipment. Back in the day, we'd put our
- 5:56car on scales and and a lot still do a lot of super late
- 5:59model guys love their scales. I don't have time for scales,
- 6:04but it doesn't work for me anymore.
- 6:06So we do this. So let's go Charlie, here's what
- 6:11we could do. So let's back this off.
- 6:15This number here is important. We're going to start out at the
- 6:1820 inch number. So you want to you see what I'm
- 6:21doing here, but come down here to this piece.
- 6:24So I want this number 20 inch. So I'm screwing in on the Jack
- 6:29bolt and I want 20 inches. So right, right there.
- 6:38OK, Now, Charlie, that's all we're going to give them.
- 6:41OK, that's all. That's all we're going to give
- 6:44you. But what I'm going to show you
- 6:46is painstaking and probably Charlie's going to Fast forward
- 6:50this part. But so I got the 20 inch number
- 6:54and I'm going to go 2019181716. Now these are all inches.
- 7:05OK, So I'm going to write a I'm going to write a number down
- 7:08here and it's it's this number. So I'm going to go 2019181716.
- 7:17OK. And I'm going to, I'm going to
- 7:19measure it now. The real number is like the
- 7:2418/17/16. The the top number doesn't mean
- 7:27much. We got two things we're checking
- 7:29here, the rate of my Ibach right front spring.
- 7:33So you see your Ibach, this is the brand spring I run in the
- 7:37right front. So so I run a certain rate
- 7:42spring and then so we know what the 20 inch number is.
- 7:45And now this is pretty cool. So this actuator now we're going
- 7:50to go to the 19 inch number and we don't want you to see this.
- 7:58Charlie almost made a mistake and kissed a snake 19 right
- 8:05there. OK, so I'm smashing it down.
- 8:09This is this is giving me the inches.
- 8:12This is the actuator and this is the sensor.
- 8:14So I hope you guys enjoyed that. I think that's a pretty good
- 8:19piece of information right there.
- 8:21When I'm done with this, come on back and we are going to take
- 8:25this right front the hub off and we're going to pack the wheel
- 8:28bearing. We're going to put we're going
- 8:29to grease the wheel bearing. But in a little bit we're going
- 8:34to show you how I packed the wheel bearing.
- 8:35And we've been doing service on the car for the last few days
- 8:39put all new front suspension pieces on because we ran a
- 8:42really rough racetrack last time.
- 8:44So yeah, we we did, we did a lot.
- 8:49Come on over here, Charlie. Yeah, we a lot of Rd. raft
- 8:55quarter panel report, quarter panel report.
- 8:58So a lot of people when I'm when I'm I'm one of the cleanest
- 9:04drivers are yes, I am. But when the terminators racing
- 9:08you, they like to turn, they like to turn left on me because
- 9:11I'm an old NASCAR dude. They like to wear me out.
- 9:14So this right here, just show the quarter panel if you don't
- 9:18mind yet. So you know we got all these
- 9:21stainless steel. This is something really neat to
- 9:22see here. So let's say weirs also makes
- 9:30these this is like a stainless. It's all stuff flexible.
- 9:34So in dirt racing, you're always getting into each other whether
- 9:37you want to or not. If you don't get into somebody
- 9:40or you don't get into the wall, you're lucky.
- 9:42So once again, these are also Chad weirs and this is what we
- 9:48use for body brackets. So sometimes I'll put 2
- 9:53together. So you know, this is, this is
- 9:57nice, but I'll put 2 together and then makes it stronger.
- 10:02And there's some areas of the car where I got 3 together.
- 10:05But during one winter I had too much time on my hand and I made
- 10:10this. But I'm really happy I didn't
- 10:11make it 'cause you should see some of my friends, it's a
- 10:15disaster. Some of my friends got all these
- 10:17things in a box and it's, it's complete chaos.
- 10:21And then these are bolt nuts that keep our body together.
- 10:28I got washers, I got nuts, bolts, sorry.
- 10:36And then the nuts. So it's it's constant, it's
- 10:40constant maintenance. Everybody said, Herman, since
- 10:43you retired, what do you do? I'm like just work on the dirt
- 10:46car 24/7. So, OK, when you come back,
- 10:51we'll be packing the wheel bearings.
