Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #268 - Dave Smith’s Israel Critique on Rogan: Is Modern Israel Biblically Legitimate?
Transcript
- 0:00Is Israel as a nation that was reconstituted in 1948, is that the same biblical Israel?
- 0:07Well, if you saw last week's podcast with Joe Rogan and Dave Smith,
- 0:12you would come away thinking that that is not the case.
- 0:15And some remarks that Dave Smith made and was validated by Joe Rogan,
- 0:21it came across just not being familiar at all with what the Bible says.
- 0:26Because, I mean, we could read the news all day long and maybe look at history,
- 0:30and those are great things.
- 0:31But when it comes down to it, what does God's word actually say?
- 0:35Does it say in there that in 1948,
- 0:37God is going to reestablish the Israel kingdom or Israel as a nation?
- 0:41But first of all, we're going to take a look at what Dave Smith said on Joe
- 0:45Rogan's podcast, and he uses a pretty crazy analogy.
- 0:49This ridiculous religious superstition that somehow when God said Israel in
- 0:55Genesis, he was referring to the state that was created that they named after that passage.
- 1:01This would literally be on the level, Joe, is if I named my son Jesus Christ,
- 1:05and then I told you, you have to worship my son.
- 1:07Look, it's right there in your Bible. No, you named it after that,
- 1:11dude. That doesn't count.
- 1:13That's crazy. And they took the spot where it was. Yeah. I mean,
- 1:16like- They took over and they did it in a horrific way, like the napka. Yeah.
- 1:20You listen to some of those soldiers, the translation of some of those soldiers
- 1:24talking about what they did and even laughing about what they did.
- 1:27Some of them even smiling. In 1948?
- 1:28Yeah, because it's not, it wasn't in 1848. Right. You know what I mean?
- 1:31Like, these guys were alive, maybe not so many of them now, but like 20,
- 1:3530 years ago, you could put a video camera in front of one of these guys and
- 1:38ask them to tell their story.
- 1:39Right, it was like 78 years ago. It wasn't that long ago. Yeah, that's right.
- 1:43Yeah. All right, so is Dave Smith correct about this? Is what he's saying valid?
- 1:48First of all, he's a Jew, so he's kind of like the anomaly.
- 1:51I know there are some Jews out there that don't agree with the state of Israel,
- 1:55and I mean, but what are we thinking about?
- 1:59What are we looking at when we look at the people over there and Jews over there
- 2:03recreating this nation?
- 2:05I would say that if we look to the Bible itself,
- 2:08God does make prophetic announcements at the very beginning of the Bible and
- 2:12says when he makes a covenant with Israel, He says that if you obey this covenant,
- 2:17if you keep your end of the bargain, if you keep up with it and do what I do,
- 2:21what I command you, I'm going to bless you.
- 2:24You're going to you're going to like basically rule over other nations. You're going to.
- 2:31You're not going to borrow from other nations. Other nations are going to borrow from you.
- 2:35You're going to be blessed. But if you disobey the covenant,
- 2:39you're going to be thrown out of the land.
- 2:40And that's what happens in the Old Testament when they go into exile into Babylon,
- 2:45and then they are brought back.
- 2:47And then that's what happens again with the destruction of the second temple
- 2:52in Jesus's time, right after Jesus was crucified, that the Jews were dispersed
- 2:58throughout all the world.
- 3:00They were sent into exile to all parts of the world, not just to Babylon,
- 3:05but to everywhere because they had to get out of there.
- 3:08They were just basically dismantled as a nation.
- 3:12But we see throughout 2,000 years that they're just kind of just wandering nomads
- 3:16just all around the world, keeping their Jewish roots, keeping their Jewish
- 3:21heritage and trying to stay as faithful as they can, but they're in exile.
- 3:25And then after 2000 years come around, we just see that they're back in the
- 3:31land, you know, and a lot of things could have happened to put them there, but it doesn't matter.
- 3:36Like God made announcements that if you're faithful to your side of the bargain,
- 3:40if you're faithful to your covenant, I will bring you back to the land.
- 3:44And that's what actually happened in 1948.
- 3:47I know other nations could have been a part of it.
- 3:49England, you know, United States or all these things that could have built up
- 3:53to it and putting them there and making it happen, but it doesn't mean that
- 3:57it negates what God does.
- 4:00We don't see God. We can't see God. We can't see angels. We can't see a lot
- 4:04of the things that are out there.
- 4:05But God uses human instruments to accomplish his will.
- 4:10That's what happens in this world. Just because like evil people could be doing
- 4:14something, but it doesn't make it that God's not behind them doing it.
- 4:18And it might even be that Satan's behind people doing things.
- 4:23But behind Satan is God.
- 4:25Satan can only do what God allows him to do.
- 4:29So, but this, like, in 1948, as Israel becoming a nation, I think it is valid
- 4:35because we see that God promised that it would happen.
- 4:39He said that, like, I'm actually going to just, a couple passages,
- 4:42like, Jeremiah 30, verse 3, it says, the Lord declares he will restore Israel
- 4:47and Judah to the land promised to their ancestors.
- 4:50I'm not quoting it, but that's, there's a bunch of passages.
- 4:52Ezekiel 36, 24, Ezekiel 37, 21 through 22, Amos 9, 14 through 15,
- 4:58and Deuteronomy 33 through 5.
- 5:00These were before they even went into the land.
- 5:04Deuteronomy, when we're here at Deuteronomy, that's before they even go into the land of Israel.
- 5:09Moses is writing this, and it's this covenant that if you obey the covenant,
- 5:13like I said, that they would stay in the land. But if they disobeyed,
- 5:16they would go out of the land.
- 5:17But God makes that announcement. You're going to. You're not going to keep it
- 5:20up. You can't keep your side of the bargain up.
- 5:23You can't keep your side of the covenant. It's not really a bargain,
- 5:25but like your side of the covenant.
- 5:27And then they get tossed out of the land. And then we see that they're brought back.
- 5:31God gathers them from all around the world. And then he reestablishes them in 1948. That is...
- 5:38I mean, because we see over and over, people are saying that that is a satanic
- 5:43nation that they've just been created and made themselves, and they've taken
- 5:47the name Israel. No, like, they're Jews.
- 5:49They're trying to be as faithful as possible to their religion,
- 5:53but it's not to say that, like, they don't fail.
- 5:57The Bible shows over and over that Israel repeatedly fails, but,
- 6:03like, it doesn't negate that their relationship with God, their covenant relationship with God.
- 6:08So when they're talking about this, I know, David, it just sounds like this
- 6:11is just very newsy and very just, you know, typical and very just like what people are aware of.
- 6:18They're not because they're not familiar with the text of the Bible,
- 6:21what it says, the prophecies in the Bible.
- 6:23And it kind of just shows like maybe where we're at, like in our time in history
- 6:29that God, after 2000 years, like Israel was just scattered, but now they're
- 6:34brought back into this land to be there.
- 6:37You know, it's, I mean, it could be forever, you know, like,
- 6:40or not forever, but like a long time before we see that Jesus comes back,
- 6:43but it just, it could show that like, that God is moving. He's making things happen.
- 6:49His, the nearness of his return could be right around the corner.
- 6:52So it's like this idea of the Israel is that's not the real nation of Israel is kind of foolishness.
- 6:59If you're really aware, I know just to, just to say that, like.
- 7:02Because they're doing something wrong or they've done something wrong that that
- 7:05doesn't, that removes their validity.
- 7:08It doesn't make sense because even in the Old Testament, we see that there were evil kings.
- 7:13If you go through the history of the kings, it's like there's only one or two
- 7:17that are good, godly kings.
- 7:20They're known for being evil kings. That's like the history of them.
- 7:25And like David was a good king, but he also waged war. He waged war and he had
- 7:31a lot of blood on his hands.
- 7:33He did. And that's why he couldn't build the temple, the first temple.
- 7:37And his son, Solomon, had to build the temple because he had so much blood.
- 7:42He waged so much war, which kind of leads me into my next point I'm going to
- 7:45be talking about with what Pope Francis, not Pope Francis, Pope Leo,
- 7:49the current pope, recently said about kind of taking shots at what.
- 7:55The United States and Israel is doing with the war that is happening in Iran
- 8:00right now, saying God does not hear the prayers of people that are waging war,
- 8:06which is kind of like just a shot at a little bit below the belt.
- 8:10I mean, God gives nations governments and governments are to do things that
- 8:19just personal individuals aren't to do.
- 8:22God has given nations and governments the ability to execute justice,
- 8:27to if someone does something wrong, if someone murders someone,
- 8:30to have them executed. That is actually justice.
- 8:34And so just to like take a shot at like what Donald Trump, and I know he didn't
- 8:39say him specifically, it just, it doesn't align with what scripture says.
- 8:44And I could go in forever about Catholicism because like I struggle with Catholicism a lot.
- 8:50And I'm going to be more vocal about it because of how so many people that are Catholics right now.
- 8:55I'm not saying every Catholic, but a lot of Catholics right now are very much
- 8:59driving this anti-Semitic spirit that is, it is going at Israel.
- 9:04It is going at Jewish people that they are, they are throwing like cause to the wind.
- 9:09They don't care anymore. They're just because they see them.
- 9:13I'm not saying all of them, but if you buy into this full ideology,
- 9:17if you really get wrapped up in it, you see yourself as you are the,
- 9:21the heir apparent, that you are the ones that are God's, like you are the,
- 9:26like the one that he has a covenant with specifically.
- 9:30And he doesn't necessarily have a covenant with Gentiles.
- 9:33He has a covenant with the Jewish people, with Israel, but he grafts Gentiles in through Christ.
- 9:41And so I just, I see this kind of ramping up more and more about that I hadn't
- 9:46seen before, because over and over in my life, I have wanted to become Catholic
- 9:49because I'm drawn to that.
- 9:51The way that they do things, which they are kind of just the inverse,
- 9:54a replica of the Jewish people.
- 9:58They do things in a lot of way that aligns almost like a mirror image of Israel.
- 10:04That's why they have priests.
- 10:05That's why their whole Catholic law is almost like the oral law that the Jews have,
- 10:11which I think that's great that they're doing that, but they're laying claim
- 10:18to things that aren't necessarily given to them.
- 10:22And I think that we need to have our headset right that as Gentiles, we are not Jews.
- 10:29The covenants weren't made with us. Even the new covenant itself is made with
- 10:33the nation of Israel and with the house of Judah. That's what it says.
- 10:37It's not made with the Greeks or the Romans or any other nation out there or
- 10:42the United States. It's made with the Jewish people. But in God's like.
- 10:47Fulfillment of consummating all of human history together. He grafts nations
- 10:51in to be a part of this community of this people.
- 10:55We don't, we don't become Jews, but we get to be like of every nation to celebrate
- 11:00and to be sharing this commonwealth that Israel has.
- 11:03So I think it's no in our place, but, but Pope, I keep saying Pope Francis,
- 11:08Pope Leo, him to take a shot, you know, at, at the United States for what they're doing in Iran.
- 11:13Cause we could go into all that, just war, why we are there, what we're doing.
- 11:18I think I would say this about the war of Iran just quickly,
- 11:22because everybody's saying, is it a good idea that we are at war with Iran right now?
- 11:26And for me personally, and I don't know about you, my answer will be,
- 11:30I will tell you maybe in a couple of years, or I'll tell you a couple of weeks
- 11:34or a couple of months from now. I don't know. And you don't know.
- 11:37Nobody knows exactly if it's the right thing.
- 11:42And if you think you do, you're probably just buying into something.
- 11:45We really don't know if it's a good idea.
- 11:47We don't know if this is going to turn out well or not. We don't know.
- 11:51And only time will tell whether it was a good idea or not.
- 11:56But either way, us being in war with Iran, it is God's hand doing it.
- 12:01Any war that is happening, God's hand is a part of it.
- 12:04And I mean, you could say that God's hand is a part of anything that goes on
- 12:08because everything happens according to his secret decreed of will.
- 12:12Nothing actually happens outside of his will. We think we have free will. We're.
- 12:18God is the one who's directing all of our steps. God is the one who has the
- 12:22king's heart in his hand, has Donald Trump's heart in his hand,
- 12:26and God turns it whichever way he wants.
- 12:29So every ruler that is out there that is making these decisions,
- 12:33we're going to find out whether it was a good decision or not down the road.
- 12:36So I wouldn't buy in too much that it's a good idea because that's the question
- 12:40people are being asked over and over.
- 12:42We just don't know at this point, but we will find out.
- 12:45All right, we'll leave it at that. Have a great day. Have a great week and I'll
- 12:49see y'all in the next one.
