- 0:01Speaker 1: The final segment Tommy Yukon Hockey Coaches Show.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Thanks to Jake Percival and Tristan Fraser for joining us
- 0:06Speaker 2: once again. Thanks to Colin Stewart for setting it up
- 0:09Speaker 2: doing the dirty work. Where would you be without Colin?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Colin does a great job for you.
- 0:13Speaker 3: I missed him this weekend. He was away at a wedding,
- 0:16Speaker 3: so you know.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Well you missed him Saturday, right.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I missed him Saturday, so I think Sarah took
- 0:21Speaker 3: him away, so I got a bone to pick with
- 0:24Speaker 3: her later.
- 0:24Speaker 4: No, you don't do in one record with Colin there,
- 0:27Speaker 4: that's good.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I know.
- 0:30Speaker 4: One without him, so yeah, that's job security.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Uh.
- 0:36Speaker 1: What do you think of the development of your young
- 0:38Speaker 1: guys so far? Four games in? I like Blay by
- 0:41Speaker 1: the way.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they're doing a I think they're doing
- 0:45Speaker 3: a nice job. I think you know, Alexander and Carlin
- 0:48Speaker 3: up front have done a nice job playing with Kayden Shahan.
- 0:54Speaker 3: They were actually started them on Saturday because I thought
- 0:57Speaker 3: they were one of our best lines on Friday night.
- 1:00Speaker 3: And then you know, Anthony is doing a really nice
- 1:05Speaker 3: job on defense, and Brendan Dunfie since he's come in
- 1:08Speaker 3: he's really stable back there. He's an excellent penalty killer.
- 1:13Speaker 3: And as we said, we talked about Cam earlier. And
- 1:17Speaker 3: they also have Joey o'dooniac who hasn't seen the ice yet,
- 1:21Speaker 3: but he's a promising player. He's going to be out
- 1:24Speaker 3: for a little while. He got mono, so he's going
- 1:26Speaker 3: to be out for a little while. But hopefully when
- 1:29Speaker 3: he gets back we'll be able to integrate him into
- 1:31Speaker 3: the lineup as well.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Second year guy, but first year on the ice. Getting Fitzgerald,
- 1:35Speaker 4: now that we've seen four games out of him, what
- 1:37Speaker 4: does he do well.
- 1:39Speaker 3: He's got great feet, his gaps are very good. He
- 1:42Speaker 3: knows when to jump into the play. He's been a
- 1:46Speaker 3: great addition to our defense. He just really I think
- 1:51Speaker 3: he's getting better and better as each game goes on. Understated,
- 1:54Speaker 3: he's one of those defensemen that they have an all saying,
- 2:00Speaker 3: if you don't notice the defenseman, he's probably playing pretty well.
- 2:03Speaker 3: And there's a lot of that to his game.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Man and actually jumped into the play too, got a
- 2:07Speaker 1: goal on.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Front dead they did. He does that. He's sneaky, he
- 2:11Speaker 3: knows when to jump into the play. He does a
- 2:12Speaker 3: great job with that.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Do you have something well in terms of uh, Tom Missinio,
- 2:20Speaker 4: I mean, it's gonna be hard to replace the shot
- 2:23Speaker 4: blocking of a John Spett. There's a lot of elements
- 2:25Speaker 4: of John's game that's going to be tough. Is Missineo's
- 2:29Speaker 4: gotten credit for a lot of block shots so far?
- 2:31Speaker 4: Is that one of the guys that can take the mantle?
- 2:34Speaker 3: Well? I think, you know, with he and Viking back
- 2:37Speaker 3: there there, you know, we can play Mess with somebody
- 2:41Speaker 3: and Viking with someone else. Viking and Kai have played
- 2:44Speaker 3: fantastic together early on, and I think Mess was playing
- 2:49Speaker 3: with I think he was playing with Brendan on Saturday
- 2:54Speaker 3: and they gave us great performance. He's just a very
- 2:59Speaker 3: trusted defense. He skates extremely well, he defends really well.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Mess is another kid that can provide some offense. He's
- 3:07Speaker 3: scored a great goal out of Colorado College. So he's
- 3:11Speaker 3: a veteran that has been in a lot of wars,
- 3:15Speaker 3: and he's a guy that you want on your side.
- 3:18Speaker 3: There's no question about that.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Back to Crown for a minute, was he as successful
- 3:22Speaker 2: in the face off that as he was in Colorado
- 3:24Speaker 2: this past weekend?
- 3:25Speaker 3: No, but you know it was I think that was
- 3:31Speaker 3: a problem with our team this weekend, all our centers,
- 3:36Speaker 3: we weren't very strong on face offs. That's an area
- 3:39Speaker 3: where we have to work on this week and certainly
- 3:42Speaker 3: get better at against Boston University, because if you're losing
- 3:47Speaker 3: fifty five to sixty percent of your face offs, you're
- 3:51Speaker 3: going to be chasing the game against BU and that's
- 3:53Speaker 3: not a great recipe for success.
- 3:56Speaker 4: When Brendan Dunfied and Tray Scott were out their respective games,
- 3:59Speaker 4: we made and that it was Houston Cartman that stepped in.
- 4:01Speaker 4: So you know, it's been a long path for him
- 4:04Speaker 4: to get there where he's that kind of first guy up.
- 4:06Speaker 4: So what has developed in his game over the years.
- 4:09Speaker 3: He's been the same player. He's just a heart and
- 4:12Speaker 3: soul guy. Whenever you call his number, he gives you
- 4:16Speaker 3: max effort. He you know, early on his career, I
- 4:21Speaker 3: was concerned about his positioning. I'm no longer ever concerned
- 4:24Speaker 3: about that. He knows where to be on the ice
- 4:27Speaker 3: and he knows how we want to play. So it's
- 4:30Speaker 3: a great luxury for us to have a guy like
- 4:32Speaker 3: Houston who you can plug, plug and play at any time.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Mike, you mentioned Hockey East being so loaded.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I mean, a good Colorado college team, ranked Ohio State
- 4:42Speaker 2: team and now ranked BU team. You're going to find
- 4:44Speaker 2: out real quick how good this team is, obviously, and
- 4:48Speaker 2: you want that because in you, as you said it,
- 4:50Speaker 2: every week to grind in Hockey East.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yeah, if you want to compete the trophies at the
- 4:53Speaker 3: end of the year, you've got to play against great
- 4:55Speaker 3: competition all throughout and before. We're very fortunate that we're
- 5:00Speaker 3: in our fantastic league where we're tested every weekend. So
- 5:04Speaker 3: there'll be another great battle weekend against the Terriers Friday
- 5:09Speaker 3: night up there and Saturday at five at Tuscano. Looking
- 5:13Speaker 3: forward to it all.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Right, Well, look forward to seeing me Friday.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Thank you always, Thank you guys.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Mike Cavanough with US six forty five on the radio.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I'll be solo for that one because Adam had his
- 5:21Speaker 2: football duty.
- 5:22Speaker 1: He's got the right sous there trying for five straight
- 5:25Speaker 1: wins on Saturday.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I got to do it from here, thanks to Colin,
- 5:28Speaker 2: thanks to CAF, thanks to our guests Adam and Mike,
- 5:30Speaker 2: and thanks to Whyet back in the studio.
- 5:32Speaker 1: We'll want to talk to you Friday, Oct. Six forty five.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Do it fridayre on the Yukon Sports Day
