- 0:43Speaker 2: rock and Roll Halloween right around the corner.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Zemgiz Gigginson's.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Another great one. I thought of last night.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Alt two goals last night too, al.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Post which Don Cherry Wentz famously said his name sounds
- 0:56Speaker 1: against dog food.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I mean the names, there's so many good ones. There's
- 1:01Speaker 3: so many good names too. But the one who's still
- 1:04Speaker 3: in the league Sem gets gig andsonse Yeah, I need
- 1:08Speaker 3: a good, I need a good It's from the you know, Seinfeld.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I like big them g giginsense.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Speaking of Bruins Senator's game Prime Monday Night Hockey, as
- 1:17Speaker 1: you're waiting in the scrum to talk to Marcus Sperm,
- 1:20Speaker 1: the Bruins coach.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Thomas turning me, he goes, think about the Germans.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Is they always have like that guttural sound like it's
- 1:26Speaker 1: true Gigginsons like like you'll ever hear like a falsetto German.
- 1:30Speaker 1: It's always tough, Marcus Stum. We've got to get the
- 1:33Speaker 1: bucking deep. We've got to work through the neutral zone.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Like but the Bruins looked like ass Marco, You've got
- 1:38Speaker 1: seven goals, the outaway sentators.
- 1:40Speaker 2: You've got to work harder. You have to get deep,
- 1:42Speaker 2: get the buck down there. But a very happy guy.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I don't know relationship with Marcos Stern, but I gotta
- 1:47Speaker 1: tell you, I'm like, I haven't seen a Granted it's October,
- 1:50Speaker 1: let's see this guy in February.
- 1:51Speaker 2: He just looks thrilled to be a head coach. Happy guy,
- 1:53Speaker 2: great guy. Obviously had the success with the Kings.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, who knows, what is you know? You
- 1:59Speaker 3: bringing up that game is just like sault in the room,
- 2:02Speaker 3: assault in the wound. For me to sit here and
- 2:05Speaker 3: watch this, watch you cheating on me consistently every Monday night,
- 2:09Speaker 3: every Monday night in Ottawa with those shitty ass jerseys
- 2:13Speaker 3: they have.
- 2:13Speaker 2: But the third jersey prutal.
- 2:15Speaker 3: But they put up seven two games in a row,
- 2:17Speaker 3: and then they give up seven. They just it's either
- 2:19Speaker 3: they lose by it, they give up seven goals and
- 2:22Speaker 3: they score seven goals. But you are the connective.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Tissue though, Prime Monday Night Hockey. What's what's the connector
- 2:27Speaker 1: I have? Jason Demers last week Tyson Nash first words, Oh, okay,
- 2:32Speaker 1: he didn't.
- 2:32Speaker 2: There's the best part our producer invention.
- 2:35Speaker 1: You're give me with our host Adnan Burk pause, he goes,
- 2:37Speaker 1: does he do a podcast for Jason Demerse.
- 2:39Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, the reason that Jeff laughed.
- 2:41Speaker 1: He goes, this guy's been in the business twenty three years,
- 2:43Speaker 1: six years of the scoring Canada, nine years of espn
- 2:46Speaker 1: M will be never NHL. And you know him cinephile
- 2:48Speaker 1: because you know him because the podcast. Jason, that's the
- 2:50Speaker 1: first Oh, that's the podcast. And de Mersey's like, that's great.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Visit that the same thing. Oh, oh, that's podcast. And
- 2:56Speaker 1: Demurs I've talked him before on screen.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I'm the fungus. I'm the fungus, I'm the I'm the itch.
- 3:02Speaker 3: You just can't get rid of. I'm always there is there.
- 3:06Speaker 1: But Nash is like he is a JD two point zero.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Like working with him felt like I was working with you.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Like he's funny.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah he's I mean he's yeah, he's he's so quick witted.
- 3:15Speaker 3: He's got his like he's got his one liners that
- 3:18Speaker 3: he he throws out. He probably smoke a stick. He
- 3:21Speaker 3: made a couple of those jokes, for sure. They so
- 3:25Speaker 3: just NonStop. They're so good. But oh yeah, he's a
- 3:27Speaker 3: great He's a great guy, really good guy.
- 3:29Speaker 2: He really is nos for Nichols. He was, he was dropping.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Those for Nichols. That's a good one. I always like
- 3:34Speaker 3: what he says that the nose got a nose for Nichols.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It was definitely entertaining.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Speaking of Tyson, Nash's someone with the Nash cast. He's
- 3:42Speaker 1: doing twelve games this year in Utah. So tusks up
- 3:45Speaker 1: a few months in Utah. They've revealed their new mascot,
- 3:48Speaker 1: the Mammoth. Of course, Tusky is the mascot not to
- 3:50Speaker 1: be mistake with Hurricanes Jim Eric Tulsky. But not sure
- 3:54Speaker 1: an expected this start here j D from the Utah Mammot.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Seven wins in a row before they got thumped in
- 3:59Speaker 1: Edmonton on Tuesday. Nick Schmaltz, Clayton Keller, Logan Cooley, Dylan Gunthard,
- 4:03Speaker 1: JJ Paterka have good mind for twenty eight goals in
- 4:06Speaker 1: the team's first eleven games. Schmaltz some of the league
- 4:08Speaker 1: leaders with seventeen points. I know some of those guys.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I'm sure you know from your time with the Coyotes.
- 4:13Speaker 1: What do you make of this run. I don't think
- 4:14Speaker 1: anyone saw this coming here from the Mammoth in the Central.
- 4:18Speaker 3: It's a crazy I mean, you know, it to be expected.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I think early they got off to a hot start
- 4:26Speaker 3: and they're kind of you know, they're riding that speed
- 4:29Speaker 3: and the riding those the youth, those two lines. I mean,
- 4:33Speaker 3: it's crazy to think Nick Schmaltz. If I'm not mistaken,
- 4:36Speaker 3: Nick Schmaltz is on his last year, and so is
- 4:39Speaker 3: Logan Cooley. They both had an opportunity to sign. Logan
- 4:45Speaker 3: Cooley is now probably the price tag. If I'm Bill Armstrong,
- 4:51Speaker 3: He's just staring at the contract counter and the thing
- 4:54Speaker 3: just keeps ticking up every game. Because Nick Schmaltz is
- 4:57Speaker 3: third in the league in points in the league. Who
- 5:00Speaker 3: to thunk it, But I mean those two lines are
- 5:03Speaker 3: you know, but that peterca Cooley Gunther line has been
- 5:07Speaker 3: so good. They're so they're so fast and they play
- 5:11Speaker 3: so well off each other. And then you know, we
- 5:13Speaker 3: already know about the Schmaltz Keller hate line. That's been
- 5:16Speaker 3: something that's been good now for a couple of years.
- 5:18Speaker 3: So they're they're getting so much scoring and I think
- 5:21Speaker 3: they just play this run and gun offense and they
- 5:24Speaker 3: don't mind to give up a couple I know they
- 5:26Speaker 3: got caught last game against Edmonton, but listen, Edmonton is
- 5:30Speaker 3: two time Cup final you know attendee, and they still
- 5:34Speaker 3: got a good pedigree and they need to get some wins.
- 5:36Speaker 3: So that was a desperation game for Edmonton. But yeah, man,
- 5:40Speaker 3: this is a this is a tough central and I
- 5:43Speaker 3: kinda we allude to it all the time about like
- 5:46Speaker 3: the importance of banking points early in the season, like
- 5:48Speaker 3: you got to get these wins. You got to find
- 5:50Speaker 3: a way because now's the time to get the wins
- 5:54Speaker 3: because not every team's at their best. So if you
- 5:56Speaker 3: can get points when everybody's kind of figuring out the
- 5:58Speaker 3: details aren't there, there's mistakes. You know, these games are
- 6:02Speaker 3: only going to get harder to win. So now that
- 6:03Speaker 3: they've picked up a lot of wins, I think it's
- 6:05Speaker 3: really promising for them.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Do they do.
- 6:07Speaker 3: I think they hold on to it. They've given this
- 6:10Speaker 3: up themselves a good opportunity, So I don't think they're impostors.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I think they're going to contend for a playoff spot
- 6:19Speaker 3: and it's probably the best best start they could could
- 6:21Speaker 3: have got.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah, so you don't see them winning the Central but
- 6:23Speaker 1: at least contending for a playoff spot, which even a
- 6:25Speaker 1: year ago they're on the outside looking him for a
- 6:27Speaker 1: wildcards to definitely improved team. To your point about banking wins,
- 6:30Speaker 1: you were talking to Marcos Sturmer about this. It's like,
- 6:32Speaker 1: you know how compressed the schedule is JD. It's crazy
- 6:35Speaker 1: so much sh tell us you guys, I've had one
- 6:37Speaker 1: practice in nine days. I'm like, wow, dude, you literally
- 6:41Speaker 1: play a game the next day you're playing again. Maybe
- 6:42Speaker 1: you got a day off plan again. And he's like,
- 6:44Speaker 1: and it's mandated now with the CBA as far as
- 6:46Speaker 1: the number.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Of practices, So coaches love practice.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Hey, we're gonna break down some stuff drilled in players
- 6:50Speaker 1: like man, I just want to play the games. So
- 6:52Speaker 1: you're right, if you blink, you're like man if utuh
- 6:55Speaker 1: goes in a little run here four or five. We
- 6:57Speaker 1: just banked eight points against teams that are retired out
- 6:59Speaker 1: of favor having practice, So I'm with you. The compress
- 7:01Speaker 1: schedule means if you can bank points early, not so
- 7:03Speaker 1: you can coach, but it can really pay dividends later
- 7:05Speaker 1: in the season.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Well, because you you kind of look at the it's
- 7:10Speaker 3: a different you. The way you're playing is you know
- 7:13Speaker 3: you're playing in these sections in terms of like you know,
- 7:16Speaker 3: twenty games, twenty games, and you kind of set yourself
- 7:19Speaker 3: up as a team with these milestones. But with the Olympics,
- 7:23Speaker 3: it's kind of get to the Olympics, it's just sprint.
- 7:28Speaker 3: If there's two weeks off, or you have two and
- 7:30Speaker 3: a half three weeks off, then it's another sprint. So
- 7:34Speaker 3: it's like if you're injured, that's where you get healthy.
- 7:36Speaker 3: So if you're a team, you're kind of like you're
- 7:38Speaker 3: really watching that schedule and you're trying to manage guys,
- 7:42Speaker 3: but you also have to like get these points, so
- 7:44Speaker 3: you can't just be giving guys days off. But you're
- 7:48Speaker 3: kind of stuck. You're kind of hamstrung to that that
- 7:51Speaker 3: the schedule, as Stirm was saying, like, I think both
- 7:54Speaker 3: teams that when I was watching the Prime game, was
- 7:56Speaker 3: like both teams had both teams had only practiced like
- 8:00Speaker 3: once and nine days and they've only been together like
- 8:02Speaker 3: once or twice. And it's like that's that's the toughest
- 8:04Speaker 3: part if you're like an injured guy coming back, because
- 8:07Speaker 3: you don't get those reps with the team, you're just
- 8:09Speaker 3: like throwing into the fucking fire.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Yeah, he said, normally morning skate, as you know, you're
- 8:13Speaker 1: just kind of getting loose a little bit, you know,
- 8:14Speaker 1: just just getting out there because now like we're trying
- 8:16Speaker 1: to teach stuff, we're trying to use morning skate as
- 8:17Speaker 1: their practice.
- 8:18Speaker 2: That's their only practice time, so you're really trying to
- 8:20Speaker 2: drill it.
- 8:20Speaker 1: In meantime, the Devil's league best eight wins in a
- 8:23Speaker 1: row before getting humbled in Colorado on Tuesday. Jack Hughes
- 8:26Speaker 1: looking locked in since undergoing shoulder surgery in March, fourteen.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Points in ten games.
- 8:31Speaker 1: We know Ken Danico has the Cigars ready to go,
- 8:34Speaker 1: but do you think New Jersey is the team to beat?
- 8:35Speaker 2: In the Metro. Previously you said it's a wide open division.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Can Jersey take it? I do well.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I think the Metro is the worst division in hockey.
- 8:44Speaker 3: So I think it's you know, we initially had Carolina
- 8:48Speaker 3: kind of sitting the top. They've ran into some injury
- 8:50Speaker 3: problems early with Slaven and a couple other guys going down.
- 8:53Speaker 3: But listen, this is a team in New Jersey that
- 8:59Speaker 3: had some injury problems last year. Jack's healthy, Douggie Hamilton healthy,
- 9:05Speaker 3: Doug Hamilton's running the first power play. It looks very
- 9:07Speaker 3: good right now. Their power play is tied for fifth
- 9:10Speaker 3: in the league, clipping around like twenty eight percent. You know,
- 9:13Speaker 3: you got Luke Cues, you got in up front, you
- 9:16Speaker 3: got a bunch of guys that are very good offensively,
- 9:20Speaker 3: and they're playing well together. Arsity Gritzik is like a
- 9:24Speaker 3: is a nice addition. This young kid coming in from
- 9:27Speaker 3: Russia's been really good for them. But Jack and Jasper
- 9:31Speaker 3: have just been fantastic. I mean, they're just they're they're
- 9:35Speaker 3: leading the league in goals per game. Uh, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 3: they're just shy of four goals the game, which is
- 9:40Speaker 3: pretty pretty incredible when you look at those numbers. In
- 9:43Speaker 3: terms of what they're capable of doing, and they're they're
- 9:46Speaker 3: doing it in different ways, but they're playing good hockey
- 9:48Speaker 3: as well. They're playing sound hockey. And you know, you
- 9:52Speaker 3: we talk about banking points. It's a this division specifically.
- 9:57Speaker 3: You saw like Washington last year. Washington went on that
- 10:00Speaker 3: run last year early in the season and they just coasted.
- 10:03Speaker 3: They co because that Metropolitan so fucking bad. It's just
- 10:07Speaker 3: a it's such a bad division. Yeah, and so many
- 10:10Speaker 3: bad teams in it. I mean, you look at it.
- 10:12Speaker 3: It makes me sick to my stomach.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Uh you know, I just Flyers Penguins.
- 10:18Speaker 3: But it's like you we say that and they're just like,
- 10:23Speaker 3: and man, it's so tough because now I look at
- 10:26Speaker 3: this and I'm like, there are some good teams in
- 10:28Speaker 3: the division. They might not be performing. Maybe I'm wrong,
- 10:31Speaker 3: Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this is the best division.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It's not the best Caro.
- 10:35Speaker 1: The only guy that really believed in the Devil's aside
- 10:37Speaker 1: from Candanico was tal Ponchewski. How why were the Devils
- 10:41Speaker 1: your pick to win the division?
- 10:43Speaker 4: Well, nobody asked, I mean, no one asked me what
- 10:45Speaker 4: my prediction was. But yes, I was picking the Devils
- 10:48Speaker 4: to win the division. Bear in mind, this is also
- 10:50Speaker 4: the guy who went on this podcast and said he
- 10:52Speaker 4: thought the Calgary Flames had a chance to make the playoffs.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yeah, they don't talk about your losses. The talk about
- 11:00Speaker 3: your wins.
- 11:00Speaker 2: But I did like the Devils.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I love the makeup of their team.
- 11:03Speaker 4: I feel like the core of the players you've mentioned,
- 11:05Speaker 4: they've been together for a while now, like they've been
- 11:07Speaker 4: kind of baking in the oven for a little while.
- 11:10Speaker 4: And I always feel like a team that has its
- 11:12Speaker 4: core kind of evolving together for a few years, eventually
- 11:16Speaker 4: they have their their moment.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I think that moment is, you know, is now for
- 11:21Speaker 3: this team.
- 11:21Speaker 4: I think the division, the metrosexual division is wide open Metro.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I love their goal to take Jake Allen's been great.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Jake Allen's been fantastic for them. With the main guy
- 11:33Speaker 4: markstrom out, I just I think they're deep up front.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, listen, Ken Danico's happy smoking seven scars
- 11:41Speaker 3: a day. We're all happy. That's all we can ask for.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Happy Danico with the cigars and music. You know, I
- 11:48Speaker 3: I went to rehabits all.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I know, because when you when you replace one addiction,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you have to replace something else. I said, so the
- 11:53Speaker 1: booze cigars. He's like, yeah, I go, what about like,
- 11:56Speaker 1: you know, healthy eating. What if you went from like
- 11:58Speaker 1: booze broccoli.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Yeah, gotta have a little gotta have a little joy
- 12:04Speaker 3: in life. No, exactly.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Everybody advice, I'm like, I got it.
- 12:08Speaker 3: You need them, you need a little one.
- 12:10Speaker 2: All right.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Jason Devers has never been accused of being an impostor.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Everywhere he goes he fits in well by way. Well
- 12:16Speaker 1: maybe maybe sometimes when we watch them, because this guy's
- 12:18Speaker 1: an imposture. He doesn't belong here. We're gonna move impost syndrome.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Ten games in, I can't wait to watch Penguin's Lightning.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I'm not a Penguin's least, by the way. Coming up
- 12:27Speaker 1: on prime minated hockey, I'm like, well, the Penguins, I'm
- 12:28Speaker 1: gonna be watching them up. Oh my god, postures are
- 12:31Speaker 1: not This is a legit run from Sydney Crossman Company.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Are the Lightning? Are they finished? The Kraken's gonna get done?
- 12:36Speaker 1: John Forst is like, watch up for come on, you're
- 12:39Speaker 1: the voice to the Krack and you're lying to me.
- 12:40Speaker 1: He's like, I'm telling you right now, they're gonna fight
- 12:42Speaker 1: for a playoff spot, and the Blues and Wild are struggling, so.
- 12:44Speaker 2: We'll go through each one.
- 12:45Speaker 5: JD.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Penguins are seven two and two might be on the
- 12:49Speaker 1: little shocking things. So for this early hockey season, impostures
- 12:52Speaker 1: are not.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Man I I tell you what, Dan Muse, the muse,
- 13:00Speaker 3: the amuse bouche. Yes, has these guys playing and some
- 13:04Speaker 3: structured ass hockey, but there's a lot. Listen, how can
- 13:09Speaker 3: you start a rebuild when you have Crosby and Malkin.
- 13:13Speaker 3: These guys just ruined rebuilding plans. Dubus is probably like,
- 13:17Speaker 3: I'm gonna bring Anthony, Mantha and Justin brezo In and
- 13:22Speaker 3: to play alongside a guinea Malkin. Unbeknownst to everybody that
- 13:27Speaker 3: both these guys Manth and Brazil would have breakout seasons
- 13:30Speaker 3: alongside Malkin. And this line is like one of the
- 13:32Speaker 3: best lines in hockey. Yes, I said it. You have
- 13:36Speaker 3: these guys with all that size, they're playing so well together.
- 13:40Speaker 3: They all have a little bit of skill, obviously Malkin's skill,
- 13:43Speaker 3: but Mantha, they all have good hands around the net.
- 13:47Speaker 3: They're huge. You can't push them off the puck. In
- 13:50Speaker 3: today's NHL. They all can skate fairly decent. It is
- 13:53Speaker 3: just an unbelieve It's their best line in Pittsburgh and
- 13:56Speaker 3: one of the best lines in hockey right now. Brazil
- 13:59Speaker 3: scored last night too. These guys are so good, they're
- 14:01Speaker 3: playing so well together. But this team, Sidney Crosby, look
- 14:04Speaker 3: at what Sidney Crosby's doing in this league. I mean,
- 14:08Speaker 3: at this age, at this I don't want to say
- 14:10Speaker 3: advanced age because he's the same. He's a year older
- 14:13Speaker 3: than me, so that doesn't count. He's a young pop.
- 14:17Speaker 3: But man, oh man, is this guy just unbelievable. And
- 14:21Speaker 3: there's some crazy stats of like their defensive structure is
- 14:25Speaker 3: really good, or it's their goals allowed as lower they're
- 14:30Speaker 3: getting you know what it is, They're getting great goaltending
- 14:33Speaker 3: is the biggest thing. Archer see Lofts, your boy has
- 14:37Speaker 3: been the last save in my NHL career. I jump
- 14:41Speaker 3: started him. The last shot, the last last shot that
- 14:44Speaker 3: got saved by on Jason de Murz an old JD
- 14:48Speaker 3: was by Archers. She Lofts and the NHL team saw
- 14:52Speaker 3: him make that save and said, this kid is going
- 14:56Speaker 3: to be a stut But I I don't think they're imposters.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I think this, I think they've I think Dubas is
- 15:03Speaker 3: looking at this being like, oh shit, now I gotta
- 15:05Speaker 3: go win a cup. Yeah, and I gotta go try
- 15:08Speaker 3: to win. Who to thunk it? Said the kid back
- 15:13Speaker 3: in the playoffs.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Meantime, the Tampa Bay Lightning four four and two overall,
- 15:18Speaker 1: two and three.
- 15:18Speaker 2: On a home ice.
- 15:19Speaker 1: You mentioned Zemis Girginson's The Lightning are hosting the Stars
- 15:22Speaker 1: after Kurgans the two gold game against Petters and the
- 15:25Speaker 1: Lightning's five to win. Lightning right now, average team impost
- 15:30Speaker 1: or not. Eventually the turn the Wormwole turn Jady. Eventually
- 15:33Speaker 1: you go from being a juggernautcha team that's all of
- 15:35Speaker 1: a sudden fallen a little bit. Has that happened the Lightning?
- 15:38Speaker 3: I I I do believe, so, you know, it kind
- 15:41Speaker 3: of stems from last year a little bit when we
- 15:43Speaker 3: were talking about the playoffs. I just don't know if
- 15:45Speaker 3: Vasilevsky health wise can hold up. He played great last game,
- 15:51Speaker 3: and but you know, they they're kind of always a
- 15:56Speaker 3: couple of injuries there. You know. I just feel like
- 15:59Speaker 3: the finn and and I don't love the way their
- 16:03Speaker 3: decoor looks. They I think losing Purvis was a big loss.
- 16:08Speaker 3: It's just an interesting one with them. I'm on the fence,
- 16:11Speaker 3: so I want to say I'm just gonna lean no
- 16:13Speaker 3: and be contrariant to not be like, yes, they're great.
- 16:16Speaker 3: You know, they got Kucher off point hegel Genseil. But
- 16:19Speaker 3: I want to say, like, I think something's awry with
- 16:22Speaker 3: this team. I don't know, I don't quite know what
- 16:24Speaker 3: it is, but I watched them and I don't love
- 16:26Speaker 3: what I'm seeing. So but again, this is one of
- 16:28Speaker 3: those teams of the pedigree that can probably that'll shove
- 16:30Speaker 3: it up my ass in two weeks and rattle off
- 16:33Speaker 3: eight wins, kind of like the tal Ponchewsky call of
- 16:36Speaker 3: Calgary being a good team. That's one of the worst
- 16:41Speaker 3: takes of all times. That's it's up there.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Want in and listen what happens in the group.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Chuck Taw wanted in because he called the devil so
- 16:51Speaker 1: goll give a little bit of love then, for okay,
- 16:53Speaker 1: I didn't give me some love, I'll be self deprecating,
- 16:55Speaker 1: mentioned my flames pick, and now we're just mercilessly broutbeating
- 16:58Speaker 1: him for the flames pick.
- 16:59Speaker 3: We have to Yeah, I'd say for that pickets, for
- 17:06Speaker 3: that pickets deserved. Yeah, they're they're they're they are tepid,
- 17:13Speaker 3: to say the least.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Their offense is pop gun the wild top imposter or not.
- 17:18Speaker 1: They lot twenty two goals over their first four home games.
- 17:21Speaker 1: They lost a Utah six two. They lost your Sharks
- 17:24Speaker 1: six five in overtime. They're one five and two when
- 17:27Speaker 1: their opponents scores first. I know, we love Carilla Thrill.
- 17:30Speaker 2: He had his first even strength goal out of a
- 17:31Speaker 2: team high six so far this season.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But they're three, five and three. They're a subpar team.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Impost or not. I think they're imposts. I didn't love
- 17:41Speaker 1: them at the start of the season. I was a
- 17:43Speaker 1: little worried in this Central Division where a lot of
- 17:47Speaker 1: the teams got significantly better. Uh, I just they're five
- 17:51Speaker 1: on five play has been horrendous. They can't score five
- 17:53Speaker 1: on five. They're relying firmly on their power play. They
- 17:56Speaker 1: have the best power play in the league, so they're
- 17:59Speaker 1: drawing penalties and scoring. It's very dangerous. But you know,
- 18:02Speaker 1: if that goes, if that one cold at all, I mean,
- 18:05Speaker 1: I don't know if they would have won a game
- 18:07Speaker 1: this season. So you know, there's it's tough.
- 18:11Speaker 3: They're just they're not getting the goaltending they got last
- 18:15Speaker 3: year from Flip Gustavson. They're not getting the you know,
- 18:21Speaker 3: good defensive play that we've come to known from the
- 18:24Speaker 3: Minnesota Wild. You know, you you like their decor on paper,
- 18:29Speaker 3: but it hasn't really been doing the job. I'm just
- 18:32Speaker 3: not I'm I'm a little worried about them, and I
- 18:35Speaker 3: don't love the start in the Central Division. I think
- 18:37Speaker 3: that we tell again, I'll keep harping on banking points,
- 18:40Speaker 3: but the one division where that is paramount that you
- 18:43Speaker 3: need to bank points early is this Central Division. Because
- 18:48Speaker 3: they we saw last year with Colorado, Winnipeg and Dallas
- 18:51Speaker 3: they just held that they held that spot for the
- 18:54Speaker 3: whole season. So it's like you need to get up there.
- 18:56Speaker 3: And you're already started way way back right now, Like
- 18:59Speaker 3: this is not they We're in dire straits. You just
- 19:02Speaker 3: signed the highest paid player, Carill Caprisov, who's played well
- 19:07Speaker 3: to this massive contract, and all signs are pointing to
- 19:12Speaker 3: this is a team that's going to the playoffs, that's
- 19:14Speaker 3: playoff bound, and just a whimpering effort early in the season.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Don't love it don't love it.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Seetle Cracking right now, surprisingly a good start. This is
- 19:24Speaker 1: a good story, by the way, Brandon Montory two goals
- 19:26Speaker 1: Shane Wright scored last night the Crack and they lose
- 19:28Speaker 1: the halves for three and overtime. But Montour in his
- 19:30Speaker 1: tenth season eighteen goals last year, he left the Cracking
- 19:34Speaker 1: for four games last week to do his family and
- 19:36Speaker 1: led the death of his older brother Cameron from complications
- 19:39Speaker 1: from als. Of course, our thoughts the Montour family. Great
- 19:41Speaker 1: to see him come back in the ice and score
- 19:42Speaker 1: a couple of goals. Cracking right now five to two
- 19:45Speaker 1: and three. I don't think many people have them as
- 19:48Speaker 1: a playoff team. Maybe they're the team that hover around
- 19:50Speaker 1: but better than expected so far. Imposter or not for
- 19:53Speaker 1: Shane Wright and company.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Oh a tough one. I mean that was a beautiful
- 19:59Speaker 3: moment Pod Coles and going up to Montour. I know
- 20:02Speaker 3: there's a video that very sad for them on tour family,
- 20:07Speaker 3: But you know, getting to this Kracking team, I mean
- 20:10Speaker 3: they're kind of middling in all team stats. They're not
- 20:14Speaker 3: really you know, jump, they don't jump off the page
- 20:17Speaker 3: at you. But they're kind of playing just a decent
- 20:21Speaker 3: brand of hockey, and they're getting great goaltending from Joey
- 20:23Speaker 3: Decord on most nights. He's keeping them in gains. You know.
- 20:27Speaker 3: I think the addition of Mason Marchman really helps. They
- 20:30Speaker 3: get a little bit more snarl to them, and they
- 20:32Speaker 3: have a back end that is very good on its
- 20:36Speaker 3: best night. So you know, it's I don't want to
- 20:40Speaker 3: give it. I still think jury's out. I still think
- 20:44Speaker 3: it's an imposter. But the one caveat and the one
- 20:48Speaker 3: thing I'll say is after the poorest metropolitan division, the
- 20:53Speaker 3: Pacific is not much better. So the Pacific is a
- 20:57Speaker 3: little light, you know. And I think the Pacific, there's
- 21:00Speaker 3: really three teams in that Pacific Anaheim, they Vegas, and
- 21:06Speaker 3: Edmonton just because of their pedigree. After that, I think
- 21:09Speaker 3: it's wide open. But I don't know if there's going
- 21:11Speaker 3: to be five Central teams or not that make the playoffs.
- 21:14Speaker 3: So I think Seattle's competing for a playoff spot. They
- 21:17Speaker 3: are not going to be competing at the top. They're
- 21:19Speaker 3: going to be in that wild card bid. But I
- 21:25Speaker 3: I can't get on board with this. I need to
- 21:27Speaker 3: see another ten games.
- 21:28Speaker 5: Tel.
- 21:28Speaker 3: I don't know, I need another ten from them.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I like it a little ten game towel.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Let's we're gonna start calling them ten game twel titty
- 21:35Speaker 3: tow to.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Ditty towe meantime for the Rangers in the Canucks. You know,
- 21:40Speaker 1: Egor Shister can actually put the blame on himself. Speaking
- 21:43Speaker 1: of goal toen, he was, you know, a little bit
- 21:44Speaker 1: d So what happens. Jonathan Quick comes in, He gets
- 21:47Speaker 1: his sixty fourth shutout twenty three, saves the Rangers.
- 21:50Speaker 2: J T. Miller returned to Vancouver and the Rangers win
- 21:53Speaker 2: it to nothing. But they're four to five and two team.
- 21:55Speaker 2: They're imposters, right.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Yeah, they stand they don't have enough upfront. Back ends
- 22:01Speaker 3: not deep enough. You know, it really falls off after
- 22:06Speaker 3: Fox and Gavrikov. Not to say these guys some good players,
- 22:08Speaker 3: Braden Schneider. You know they have the goaltending, but I
- 22:12Speaker 3: just don't know if they have the jam up front.
- 22:15Speaker 3: You know, they really hoped Lafarnier is gonna be this
- 22:18Speaker 3: one hundred point player and shown flashes of it. He
- 22:22Speaker 3: just can't find any consistency. Mika's advantage that hasn't sweat
- 22:26Speaker 3: once in his twelve year career. He's played better though,
- 22:30Speaker 3: but just hasn't just hasn't lived up to what we
- 22:36Speaker 3: expected from New York. But I never loved this lineup
- 22:39Speaker 3: from the start. And then you, you know, you take
- 22:40Speaker 3: out Vincent Trocheck, who's kind of a little bit of
- 22:43Speaker 3: an engine for this, this this depth down the middle.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I just I don't see it. Imposters for me, don't.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I don't see it at all.
- 22:51Speaker 1: A couple more to go, and these are good stories
- 22:53Speaker 1: from Detroit red Wings. Year nine of the Eyes are playing.
- 22:55Speaker 1: There's seven and three right now. We talked with the
- 22:57Speaker 1: red Wings last year. Excuse me last week? What a
- 22:59Speaker 1: great start throw threw off too. Are the Red Wings
- 23:02Speaker 1: imposters or not? It feels like this team's jit.
- 23:05Speaker 3: They're always imposters to me until they until I see
- 23:08Speaker 3: him down the stretch.
- 23:10Speaker 2: They aren't until they disprove because it's.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Yeah, they gotta they gotta prove me. They gotta prove
- 23:15Speaker 3: me wrong.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Dylan Larkin is not an impost then he's scored.
- 23:18Speaker 3: No, Dylan Dialon, Dilon's a player. And I tell you
- 23:24Speaker 3: what coalition of the seventh rounders em and Finney fucking
- 23:27Speaker 3: studs dark horse for the dark Horse for the Calder
- 23:32Speaker 3: Nice I like it.
- 23:33Speaker 1: And by the way, he's got eight goals over all
- 23:35Speaker 1: the season and one more for you. I feel like
- 23:36Speaker 1: this has to be an impost Blackhawks five three and two.
- 23:40Speaker 3: I tell you what, This team's fucking exciting right now
- 23:43Speaker 3: to watch. If you're watching the Blackhawks. If you are,
- 23:45Speaker 3: if you listen to us on your way to work,
- 23:49Speaker 3: tune into the Blackhawks, folks. This is a fun team
- 23:52Speaker 3: to watch. Connor Bodard he's playing hockey. He's he's doing
- 23:57Speaker 3: what we all expected him to do. I mean that
- 23:58Speaker 3: hat trick last night was diabolical. The way he was.
- 24:02Speaker 3: The release he has right now it's on another level.
- 24:05Speaker 3: I don't know if he's using a twenty five flex
- 24:07Speaker 3: stick because the whip on that thing is wow. It's
- 24:12Speaker 3: like a dominatrix whip in one of its servants.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I mean, I didn't think we're going to do a
- 24:20Speaker 1: BDSM conversation, but yeah, he can it be in a workhorse.
- 24:23Speaker 2: How about Spencer Night that you know.
- 24:26Speaker 3: What, That's why I need you for those things. Good
- 24:29Speaker 3: for Spencer Night signs a ticket, wants to be a
- 24:32Speaker 3: number one, had wasn't able to get an opportunity. He
- 24:35Speaker 3: is now saying come to me watch me bow Acknowledge
- 24:43Speaker 3: and I am Spencer Knight. He has been great. I
- 24:46Speaker 3: mean their decourse, listen, their decoors young but you know
- 24:50Speaker 3: Alex vlasek liv shoon Off, Wyat Kaiser, Sam Renzel, these
- 24:56Speaker 3: are like some butting stars. These are picks that have
- 24:59Speaker 3: a lot of upside to them. So you know when
- 25:02Speaker 3: Blaschell comes in and these guys are playing good ho
- 25:04Speaker 3: I mean Frank Naser, the Naser Laser has been has
- 25:08Speaker 3: I feel has really pushed Connor Badard to be better.
- 25:12Speaker 3: And because he kind of has that swag, he's like
- 25:15Speaker 3: a little bit of the the anti Connor Berdhard. You know,
- 25:19Speaker 3: he's like a little bit more We got some piss
- 25:21Speaker 3: to him, a little bit cocky, arrogant. Connor kind of
- 25:25Speaker 3: was that, but in a weird way, kind of a
- 25:27Speaker 3: way that you wanted to you didn't want to love,
- 25:29Speaker 3: You wanted to punch him in the face. But you
- 25:32Speaker 3: see him kind of relaxing a bit playing hockey and
- 25:37Speaker 3: like getting a little bit of swag out to him,
- 25:39Speaker 3: getting that swagger that we all knew he had in him.
- 25:41Speaker 3: So I don't want to I don't want to call
- 25:45Speaker 3: him imposters because I still think anything above what we
- 25:48Speaker 3: all thought. They'd win five games this year, so they're
- 25:51Speaker 3: already exceeding expectations. So I just want to like enjoy
- 25:55Speaker 3: this a little bit, and I hope this is this
- 25:58Speaker 3: is what you want out of a rebuild, is you
- 25:59Speaker 3: want to take a step forward. I wish there were
- 26:02Speaker 3: no bad teams in the NHL and everybody was good
- 26:05Speaker 3: so we could watch exciting hockey because I hate rebuilding
- 26:08Speaker 3: as an absolute passion of mine. I can't stand it.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I think this is not in a development league. You
- 26:14Speaker 3: have to try to win, and I like what they're
- 26:17Speaker 3: doing right now in Chicago, So it's nice to see
- 26:19Speaker 3: this take a step forward and then for right now
- 26:21Speaker 3: be a team that we hoped would improve a little bit.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yeah, like you said, it's an impost and that you
- 26:29Speaker 1: don't think that they're a contender for a playoff spot,
- 26:31Speaker 1: but not an impost that they're better than you thought
- 26:33Speaker 1: they'd be.
- 26:34Speaker 2: So they're exciting expectations.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I mean, but dark first NHL hat trick is one
- 26:37Speaker 1: hundred and sixtieth career game. He becomes one of the
- 26:40Speaker 1: seventh Blackhawks player to score at least fifty goals before
- 26:44Speaker 1: turning twenty one. It's crazy. I think how young this
- 26:46Speaker 1: guy still is. One more topic than We'll do a
- 26:48Speaker 1: quick time out and get to Brian Barard or special guest.
- 26:50Speaker 2: But first your boy, Max Selly.
- 26:52Speaker 1: He won't be twenty years old until the summer, but
- 26:55Speaker 1: he's five goals and eleven points in his last five games,
- 26:58Speaker 1: going a five point game against the Rangers last week
- 27:01Speaker 1: the NHL.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Player of the Week.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Fourth player in league history to get two five point
- 27:06Speaker 1: games before turning twenty. The others are Wayne gretzky Dale,
- 27:09Speaker 1: Howard Schuck and the great Brian Trotcay fifteen points and
- 27:13Speaker 1: nine games, he's fourth the NHL. Is he gonna be
- 27:15Speaker 1: on Team Canada or what?
- 27:16Speaker 2: Let's go?
- 27:22Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, Why would you not want this kid on
- 27:27Speaker 3: Team Canada? This is a I don't know this This
- 27:33Speaker 3: kid is, you know, this is just mad Max Fury
- 27:36Speaker 3: Road Witness, just witness blood Bank. This is you want
- 27:43Speaker 3: this kid Sidney Crosby is. He's a mini Sidney Crosby.
- 27:47Speaker 3: He's a mini sid You know. I kind of eluded
- 27:52Speaker 3: initially like he's gonna be a hybrid of Jonathan Taves
- 27:54Speaker 3: and Sidney Crosby. I was Wren leaning on the Jonathan
- 27:58Speaker 3: Taves side at his best. But this kid is so good.
- 28:03Speaker 3: He works so incredible hard. He's so hard on pucks.
- 28:06Speaker 3: His underlying numbers of like puck battle wins. I know that,
- 28:09Speaker 3: you know, sounds like such a nerd stat, but that's
- 28:12Speaker 3: so important as an indicator of like a guy's will
- 28:15Speaker 3: to win. And you just see it, like you see
- 28:18Speaker 3: him willing like this Sharks team that does not have
- 28:21Speaker 3: enough talent and enough in the pool and enough depth
- 28:26Speaker 3: to really do much, but he's willing them to to
- 28:29Speaker 3: these close games, exciting games. He's just a guy and
- 28:33Speaker 3: I think if you put him around these veterans, these
- 28:35Speaker 3: really good players, he is going to thrive at the Olympics.
- 28:39Speaker 3: And I think he should be considered heavily to be
- 28:42Speaker 3: in this Olympic roster right now on the fourth line,
- 28:44Speaker 3: fourth line center. And I just think he's he's a
- 28:47Speaker 3: guy even if you bring him as a thirteenth but
- 28:50Speaker 3: I just think he's a guy that understands the role
- 28:52Speaker 3: and and and understand he's understands the game and he's
- 28:56Speaker 3: he's it's a lot like Schaefer. He's a he looks
- 29:00Speaker 3: you know, and you have all the jokes with Will
- 29:02Speaker 3: Smith and you know, the sleepovers, and he seems like
- 29:04Speaker 3: a kind of Gigley guy. But his emotional maturity on
- 29:07Speaker 3: the ice is very high, and he's got a high
- 29:09Speaker 3: hockey IQ and that's hard to teach, and that's something
- 29:12Speaker 3: you need to be born with and he was gifted
- 29:15Speaker 3: from the gods. And I just think, man, it's listen.
- 29:20Speaker 3: The Sharks are bad, but we said they'd be exciting.
- 29:23Speaker 3: They are exciting. These games are just must watch hockey
- 29:26Speaker 3: if you if you're a fan of mistakes and goals
- 29:29Speaker 3: and all sorts of ship like that. So so yeah,
- 29:34Speaker 3: so I'm he is not an impostor. And I know
- 29:38Speaker 3: we're not doing the imposter game anymore, but I just
- 29:40Speaker 3: wanted to say he's.
- 29:42Speaker 2: The real deal from play.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I like the impostor game like it was a fun game,
- 29:48Speaker 3: very f.
- 29:49Speaker 2: On social media. If you want more imposter games, we're
- 29:51Speaker 2: willing to do that here.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Max Delly, the Baby Faced Assassin still to come here
- 29:55Speaker 1: unscripted tal Ponchewski with a cine file and sixty he's
- 29:58Speaker 1: gonna talk about pro beach hockey. But coming up next
- 30:01Speaker 1: it is indeed Brian Barrard and overcoming considerable in his career,
- 30:05Speaker 1: the highlights and low lights and all of it. It's
- 30:07Speaker 1: coming up next after this on NHL in Scripted. Our
- 30:22Speaker 1: next guest was the first overall selection in the nineteen
- 30:25Speaker 1: ninety five NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators, who then
- 30:28Speaker 1: sent him to the New York Islanders and then we
- 30:29Speaker 1: won the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie. He
- 30:32Speaker 1: went on to collect three hundred and twenty three points
- 30:34Speaker 1: in six hundred and nineteen career games with the Islanders,
- 30:37Speaker 1: Maple Leafs, Rangers, Bruins, Blackhawks, and the Blue Jackets. He
- 30:41Speaker 1: also in the Bill Masterton Trophy in two thousand and
- 30:43Speaker 1: four and now serves as president of the Colorado Extreme.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Brian Barrard, Welcome to NHL and Scripted man. Great to
- 30:49Speaker 2: see you.
- 30:50Speaker 5: Thanks for having me, guys, I appreciate it.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Colorado Extreme, let's start there.
- 30:53Speaker 1: What can you tell us about your work with the
- 30:54Speaker 1: organization and that big alumni tournament you have coming up.
- 30:58Speaker 5: It's a good start for sure. I've been there almost
- 31:00Speaker 5: about a little over a year now. I actually went
- 31:03Speaker 5: out to Askton just to kind of a little fun,
- 31:04Speaker 5: little vacation. My girlfriend and Loopool, a couple of guys
- 31:07Speaker 5: Jeffrey Loopool, Upshawal, my buddy Andy Mack kind of moved
- 31:10Speaker 5: out there during COVID. I met Sheldon Glitski and there
- 31:13Speaker 5: we kind of go. I mean, he started Extreme about
- 31:15Speaker 5: four years ago, basically free hockey. He expected anywhere from
- 31:20Speaker 5: you know, fifty two hundred kids. We're now up to
- 31:22Speaker 5: six hundred kids in the program where youth organization, I mean,
- 31:26Speaker 5: we provide free, free hockey, free ice time, free equipment.
- 31:30Speaker 5: We did a deal with the NHL and Peer, So
- 31:32Speaker 5: the organization has taken off and it's it's it's it's
- 31:34Speaker 5: been Uh, it's been great.
- 31:36Speaker 3: How how have you seen just the reception and and
- 31:39Speaker 3: the growth and how did this kind of come to be,
- 31:42Speaker 3: you know, just just chatting with these guys. Is it
- 31:44Speaker 3: something that just happened organically or or has it kind
- 31:48Speaker 3: of been planned as you've as you've moved.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Along completely organically? It was it was we went out
- 31:53Speaker 5: there for a little vacate, like I said, and and
- 31:55Speaker 5: uh I I met Sheldon, his wife Katie. This has
- 31:58Speaker 5: been kind of a you know, a second mount for
- 32:00Speaker 5: Sheldon with with his other companies close to kind of
- 32:02Speaker 5: exiting his other company. He's got five kids under ten
- 32:04Speaker 5: years old, under eleven now, so they're all playing. Yeah,
- 32:07Speaker 5: they're all playing hockey. He played at Alabama Huntsville, so
- 32:11Speaker 5: their hockey family I saw, to be honest with I mean,
- 32:14Speaker 5: we stayed and my girlfriend stayed at their house and
- 32:16Speaker 5: just saw what all their family was about. I saw
- 32:18Speaker 5: the coaches he hired. We have hired coaches. We're close
- 32:22Speaker 5: now to two outdoor arenas, full sized outdoor arenas. It
- 32:24Speaker 5: was a limited ice time, and and all the coaches
- 32:27Speaker 5: he hired. I mean, it's it's just a great program.
- 32:29Speaker 5: And the kids down valley again. You know, we all
- 32:32Speaker 5: know hockey is not a middle class sport anymore. So
- 32:34Speaker 5: we're doing the best to provide, you know, great coaching
- 32:37Speaker 5: and development on and off the ice.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Five kids eleven and unders. He does not like sleep.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Hopefully I'll get man his wife.
- 32:45Speaker 5: Yeah, that's great. It's great. They have four boys at
- 32:47Speaker 5: one girl and they're they're all leasing up to skate,
- 32:48Speaker 5: so it's great.
- 32:49Speaker 2: I love it.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Man, that's awesome. Think how much you love the support
- 32:51Speaker 1: the pass it on your kids. Well, taking a memory
- 32:54Speaker 1: lane here, Brian, how shocked are you when you got
- 32:56Speaker 1: traded right after being the first pick in the draft.
- 32:59Speaker 5: I was definitely I was Actually I was actually hurt
- 33:02Speaker 5: in Montreal, abduct strained, and I was walking around kind
- 33:06Speaker 5: of doing a little shopping during the day and I
- 33:08Speaker 5: got out. I didn't even hear from Milburgh. I actually
- 33:09Speaker 5: heard it from a Sheerwood rep and Toronto called me
- 33:12Speaker 5: and said, You've just been traded to the Leafs and
- 33:14Speaker 5: I was like, no way, there's not a chance. So
- 33:17Speaker 5: actually rushed back to the rushed back to uh rush
- 33:20Speaker 5: back to the hotel, and my coaches were actually assistant
- 33:22Speaker 5: coaches were sitting in the lobby and they're like, you
- 33:23Speaker 5: better get up there. I think it's too late, they
- 33:25Speaker 5: told me, And I went up. I knocked right on
- 33:27Speaker 5: Milbury's door and he's like, he's been traded. So he's like, uh,
- 33:30Speaker 5: it was kind of funny. He's like, we just needed
- 33:32Speaker 5: a goaltender brought. He's like, I needed a goaltender real bad.
- 33:34Speaker 5: And and to be honest with there was nothing it
- 33:37Speaker 5: couldn't have been better for me. I mean, at first,
- 33:39Speaker 5: I was hurt, you know, obviously, you know, I thought
- 33:41Speaker 5: I was gonna be with Long Island for a while.
- 33:43Speaker 5: It was close to home for me, about three hour
- 33:44Speaker 5: drive from my parents, but going to the Leafs, I
- 33:46Speaker 5: mean with Matt's and Stevie Thomas and we were closing
- 33:49Speaker 5: down you know, MSG Maple Leaf Gardens. We had like
- 33:52Speaker 5: ten games left and open up the brand new Aircanada
- 33:54Speaker 5: Center and we had a good run that year too,
- 33:56Speaker 5: so it was it was great for me.
- 33:58Speaker 3: I mean, you also were living in a in a house,
- 34:01Speaker 3: I think from what I've heard with Brian McCabe, Eric
- 34:03Speaker 3: for you show you at a young guy's house, I mean,
- 34:06Speaker 3: talk to me about that, you know, being you know
- 34:10Speaker 3: living with veterans or or you know young guys living
- 34:13Speaker 3: with veterans, but you know, you guys are all young
- 34:16Speaker 3: coming up together. I kind of did that in San
- 34:18Speaker 3: Jose with Devin Setegucci and Tory Mitchell, and it was
- 34:22Speaker 3: actually amazing for my career, you know, because we were
- 34:27Speaker 3: so relaxed all the time, just all being together.
- 34:29Speaker 5: I agree totally with you. I mean we had a
- 34:31Speaker 5: lot of young young prospects too, I mean, you know
- 34:34Speaker 5: getting there. Brent Lendos was there as well. He started
- 34:37Speaker 5: with you know, struggling with his concussions unfortunately, but as myself,
- 34:40Speaker 5: Cabor Todd Bertuzzi, Eric fi Schow, Singing Palfi, even young
- 34:45Speaker 5: guys like Scott the Chance. So we had a really
- 34:47Speaker 5: good kind of core Kenny Jhsen. So we had a
- 34:49Speaker 5: really good core guys that you know, made it easy
- 34:52Speaker 5: for took the pressure off a little bit. And I
- 34:54Speaker 5: mean we weren't very good the first couple of years,
- 34:56Speaker 5: but still it just made it an easier way to
- 34:59Speaker 5: kind of you know, adapt and playing in the NHL
- 35:02Speaker 5: at at a young age.
- 35:05Speaker 3: I was just say that the coaches just hate that
- 35:06Speaker 3: house too.
- 35:09Speaker 1: These guys are getting after it all the time. Way
- 35:11Speaker 1: too much fun being had there, right.
- 35:13Speaker 5: Oh, it definitely was. I mean especially you know, me
- 35:17Speaker 5: and McCabe too. We like to go out a little
- 35:18Speaker 5: bit and back then it was He's on the Island
- 35:21Speaker 5: live music, so it was a lot of fun. I
- 35:23Speaker 5: mean Caber met his wife there and things like that
- 35:26Speaker 5: as well. So we had a lot of fun. And
- 35:28Speaker 5: then you added guys like Ken Blane, a, Richie peelon Micvacota.
- 35:31Speaker 5: We had a great team on and off the l
- 35:33Speaker 5: on the ice, but off the ice, we definitely had
- 35:35Speaker 5: a good team.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Off the ice.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Yeah, great off ice team and it was a pretty
- 35:38Speaker 1: interesting time, Brian, because Milbury's replaced as GM with Neil Smith.
- 35:42Speaker 1: He's gone six weeks later, replaced with Garth Snow, who
- 35:45Speaker 1: was the team's backup goal of the year before.
- 35:47Speaker 2: How did you describe that much change?
- 35:50Speaker 5: That was a change end to my towards the end.
- 35:52Speaker 5: I mean that that's kind of when after I got traded,
- 35:55Speaker 5: but you know, I went back there for one more
- 35:56Speaker 5: year and that's when gar Snow was in charge, and
- 35:58Speaker 5: and you know DiPietro was there as well, so it
- 36:01Speaker 5: was it was you know that that was definitely a
- 36:04Speaker 5: differ time. That was when the organization really kind of
- 36:06Speaker 5: seemed to be a little bit of you know, I
- 36:08Speaker 5: don't say in a mess, but it was a mess. So,
- 36:12Speaker 5: I mean, it was just it was an experience, that's
- 36:13Speaker 5: what we realized it. There's also the business. You know,
- 36:16Speaker 5: it's a business part of the game as well. It
- 36:18Speaker 5: can be frustrated times and then you see some guys
- 36:20Speaker 5: get disrespected and things like that. So it kind of,
- 36:23Speaker 5: you know, towards the end of the correct that was
- 36:24Speaker 5: towards the end my career kind of left a little
- 36:25Speaker 5: bit of a sour taste in my mouth as far
- 36:27Speaker 5: as the politics, it kind of you see some teammates
- 36:29Speaker 5: and stuff get hurt, and there is the business side
- 36:31Speaker 5: of hockey, so unfortunately.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Yeah, the business side is always can get tricky. And
- 36:37Speaker 3: I mean somebody that you also played for was pack
- 36:41Speaker 3: Quinn and you know, an intimidating figure. You know, do
- 36:45Speaker 3: you have any good pack Quinn stories. I'm sure you
- 36:48Speaker 3: know he was. I'm sure you yeah.
- 36:53Speaker 5: Pat was old school though, so yeah, for some reason,
- 36:55Speaker 5: a lot of the old school coaches like Brian Sutter,
- 36:57Speaker 5: Pac Quinn, even Mike Keenan. I never played for him,
- 37:00Speaker 5: but you know, try to trade for me a couple
- 37:01Speaker 5: of times. Seemed to like me a little bit. I
- 37:02Speaker 5: like playing for the old school guys to be hon
- 37:04Speaker 5: and Pat. Pat was intimidating. He had those big, big,
- 37:07Speaker 5: you know, big Irish fists that would palm the coolers
- 37:09Speaker 5: and he was a big man. But he kind of
- 37:11Speaker 5: opened a door and let us play. And then when
- 37:13Speaker 5: we needed our butts kicked, he kick us in the
- 37:15Speaker 5: butt as well. So Pat, that was funny. I mean,
- 37:17Speaker 5: you know, I mean from Toronto, you know the least
- 37:19Speaker 5: there is no there's no secret what should do. So
- 37:21Speaker 5: Pat used to just be fine we'd be sitting in
- 37:23Speaker 5: the players lounge, you know, in the morning with the
- 37:25Speaker 5: old school warm up with a couple of coffee and
- 37:27Speaker 5: heat packed around the back and a bag.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Had a firm bangla exactly.
- 37:35Speaker 5: But he would always come through and he just laugh,
- 37:37Speaker 5: he goes they brought I heard it, you know, I
- 37:38Speaker 5: heard you had dance and she was on last night
- 37:40Speaker 5: or something like that. And right enough, I was that
- 37:42Speaker 5: fluid till you know, three thirty four of the more
- 37:44Speaker 5: so the old fluid in Toronto, you.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Downtown, n Yeah.
- 37:48Speaker 5: Yeah, but he had the he had the good you know,
- 37:51Speaker 5: smirk on and he was he was old school too.
- 37:53Speaker 5: I mean in between periods that year, I think we
- 37:55Speaker 5: had seven or eight guys that smoke butts in between
- 37:57Speaker 5: periods and Patty Quick, Patty Quinn and uh you know
- 38:01Speaker 5: Pat Quinn and Ricky Lee would have the cigars cigars
- 38:03Speaker 5: going in between periods too. No, it wasn't much breathing
- 38:06Speaker 5: in that locker room, that's for sure.
- 38:08Speaker 3: How is that just being I always I always fascinated
- 38:11Speaker 3: by that, Uh, just guys you know, ripping SIGs in
- 38:14Speaker 3: between and it worked, But I mean, how is that
- 38:18Speaker 3: covering to the room and what a laid back style.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Yeah, we had We had the Russian mob there too,
- 38:22Speaker 5: So we had seven eight rushing guys and most of
- 38:24Speaker 5: them were the smoking butts like Danny Markoff and guys
- 38:26Speaker 5: like that that I loved. You know. We had a
- 38:28Speaker 5: hardcore team, which but you know, Masen Dean is probably
- 38:31Speaker 5: probably one of them, and I played with for mess too.
- 38:33Speaker 5: He's one of the better captains I've played for on
- 38:35Speaker 5: and off the ice. Not big vocal guy, but leadership
- 38:38Speaker 5: and he kept that team. We had a bunch of
- 38:40Speaker 5: characters on the team, but that was probably the best
- 38:42Speaker 5: team and probably the best chance I had to want
- 38:44Speaker 5: to stand with the couples on that team.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no question about that. Leaves team certainly was special.
- 38:49Speaker 1: It was in Toronto, of course, Brian, that you suffered
- 38:51Speaker 1: that devastating eye injury many people thought would end your career.
- 38:54Speaker 1: It was remarkable you were able to come back. Of course,
- 38:56Speaker 1: won the Masters and Trophy later in your career. That
- 38:58Speaker 1: committed to the game. How adamant were you though that
- 39:01Speaker 1: you were going to come back no matter what.
- 39:03Speaker 5: I feel, I wasn't I thought about Crew was doing.
- 39:06Speaker 5: I mean, you know, I caught that stick you know
- 39:09Speaker 5: caught me. It was an accident, but just caught me
- 39:11Speaker 5: the right way. I mean, did a ton of damage.
- 39:13Speaker 5: You know, probably for a good six months to a year,
- 39:14Speaker 5: I thought my crew was over. But then this is,
- 39:17Speaker 5: you know, the surgery start kind of kind of dwindled
- 39:19Speaker 5: a little bit. I had about six or seven eye
- 39:21Speaker 5: surgeries to kind of repair them. Right now. Yeah, never really,
- 39:24Speaker 5: I mean basically it was. It's kind of good thing
- 39:26Speaker 5: because I think that if I would have got some
- 39:28Speaker 5: vision back my brain, I would have two different signals.
- 39:31Speaker 5: I don't know if I would have ever been able
- 39:32Speaker 5: to play. So the one that played with the good
- 39:34Speaker 5: left eye and he came back playing those six or
- 39:36Speaker 5: seven years, it took me a little while to adapt.
- 39:38Speaker 5: I think I got backed offensively, but I think the
- 39:41Speaker 5: toughest part of the game was in the defensive zone
- 39:42Speaker 5: with the one eye covering guys in the slots and
- 39:44Speaker 5: kind of going back for pucks and things like that.
- 39:46Speaker 5: But you know, I was twenty three years old, so
- 39:49Speaker 5: you know, in hindsight, I would have done again.
- 39:51Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean that's that's amazing too. And like
- 39:55Speaker 3: what was the you know, you talk about the defensive
- 39:57Speaker 3: zone and I played with Michael Grabner who who suffered
- 40:00Speaker 3: an eye injury as well, and he kind of got
- 40:02Speaker 3: a little bit fuzzy this back. But I think to
- 40:05Speaker 3: your point that, like that's interesting. You're like, well, you're
- 40:08Speaker 3: trying to get some vision back, but if you get
- 40:09Speaker 3: a little bit, it's it's distorting to your view and
- 40:13Speaker 3: it's distorting to your brain because you're getting kind of
- 40:15Speaker 3: fuzzy in one eye. So it's almost better to I mean,
- 40:18Speaker 3: it's it's awful to say it's always better to have
- 40:20Speaker 3: just the one eye. But for you defensively, did you
- 40:23Speaker 3: have to like tilt your head like how does that work?
- 40:25Speaker 3: And and also to continue on that when you came
- 40:27Speaker 3: back to the Rangers, like winning the Masters in Trophy,
- 40:30Speaker 3: Like how gratifying was that? You know?
- 40:33Speaker 5: And the biggest thing I think it's, you know, from
- 40:36Speaker 5: going back for a pocket, you know, my feel and
- 40:38Speaker 5: things for the game. I'd say you can get a
- 40:40Speaker 5: little bit better. But if a guy, well, you know,
- 40:41Speaker 5: one guy was basically chasing me from behind, you kind
- 40:44Speaker 5: of feel where he was or kind of keep your
- 40:46Speaker 5: head on the swive was I'd love to say the defenseman,
- 40:48Speaker 5: but yeah, you know, if two guys would jump me.
- 40:50Speaker 5: That's where I get hit pretty good sometimes, but also
- 40:53Speaker 5: it's just kind of lose and that's where you kind
- 40:55Speaker 5: of lose track of guys. And with one eye and
- 40:57Speaker 5: and no depth perception, made a little definitely tougher defensively,
- 41:01Speaker 5: you know, winning the Masters, and it was something that
- 41:03Speaker 5: you know, I didn't didn't fact that. It was just
- 41:05Speaker 5: more of a I wanted to come back and play hockey,
- 41:07Speaker 5: be part of the locker room again with the boys
- 41:09Speaker 5: and the camaraderie and and things like that. So the
- 41:11Speaker 5: Masterson was just was just a bonus.
- 41:13Speaker 2: It was a remarkable perseverance, the commitment. He certainly deserved
- 41:16Speaker 2: that award.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Brian, that Rangers team truly unique on paper, stacked, Eric
- 41:20Speaker 1: linch Ross, Theo Fleury, Mark Messier, Brian Leech, Pavelbury, Mike Richtor,
- 41:25Speaker 1: Matthew Barnaby. What do you remember about unique collection of characters?
- 41:29Speaker 5: That we did not make the playoffs, which is crazy,
- 41:32Speaker 5: that is insane, because I mean that team was again,
- 41:36Speaker 5: we were stacked. I mean, I don't even know how
- 41:38Speaker 5: many All stars we had on that team, but you know,
- 41:40Speaker 5: just got off the rough start right away. Coach got fired,
- 41:42Speaker 5: slats came down you know from from upstairs and Slats
- 41:46Speaker 5: that same I mean, Slats was was awesome to me.
- 41:49Speaker 5: You know, I played all eighty two games that year,
- 41:51Speaker 5: probably was a six or seven defenseman. He could have
- 41:53Speaker 5: sat me many a Knight's but he knew kind of
- 41:56Speaker 5: knew what I was coming from, and when the team
- 41:57Speaker 5: started struggling, he stuck with me and keave an opportunity
- 42:00Speaker 5: to kind of start my comeback. You know. As far
- 42:02Speaker 5: as that team, I just think there was there wasn't
- 42:04Speaker 5: a bucks on the ice, you know for all those
- 42:05Speaker 5: guys and and uh unfortunately, I mean that that definitely
- 42:09Speaker 5: that would have been a nice playoff run if we're
- 42:10Speaker 5: Goulda made it in the playoffs, because I think then
- 42:12Speaker 5: mess could have kind of grabbed the reins. But it was.
- 42:14Speaker 5: It was definitely an interesting year and a lot of
- 42:15Speaker 5: good guys on that team.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Can you give me a specific story, but either Lynn
- 42:18Speaker 1: Dross or Flurry two of my favorites.
- 42:20Speaker 5: Yeah, Flur. Flurry was tough. I mean, we'll keep that Flurry.
- 42:23Speaker 5: I can tell you one good story. Towards the end
- 42:24Speaker 5: of the year, he kind of disappeared and he was
- 42:27Speaker 5: looking at my Porsche to buy and he just He
- 42:29Speaker 5: actually disappeared with my Porsche for for about three or
- 42:31Speaker 5: four months, so I thought he actually stole it from me. Yeah,
- 42:35Speaker 5: he's down in New Mexico and I got his girlfriend
- 42:37Speaker 5: called me at the time and got my dress, and
- 42:39Speaker 5: like two days later FedEx showed up with a check,
- 42:41Speaker 5: but I had his car, he had my car and
- 42:42Speaker 5: just kind of he kind of disappeared on me. He
- 42:44Speaker 5: went down to New Mexico. So it was interesting. He
- 42:45Speaker 5: mentions in his book too is funny.
- 42:47Speaker 2: But did he just take it?
- 42:48Speaker 3: Did he take it for a test?
- 42:49Speaker 5: Driver was like just take it just to come back? Yeah,
- 42:54Speaker 5: excuse me. Yeah, so.
- 42:57Speaker 3: In Mexico and somewhere now, I did you know what
- 42:59Speaker 3: kind of Porsche it was?
- 43:01Speaker 5: That was It was a was a Force Cabrolet just
- 43:04Speaker 5: a night elet support your correct and the big Lindross
- 43:07Speaker 5: was my roommate. So I think I gained about ten
- 43:10Speaker 5: to fifteen pounds that year because that man can eat.
- 43:12Speaker 2: So yeah, we.
- 43:15Speaker 5: We just go for you know, we go for nice
- 43:17Speaker 5: dinner and stuff and get back. He'd always he was
- 43:19Speaker 5: good for his room service. Another meal and ice cream
- 43:21Speaker 5: at eleven o'clock at night, level thirty at night. What
- 43:23Speaker 5: was the I follow through. It was whatever could be
- 43:26Speaker 5: a salad. And but we love our ice cream too,
- 43:28Speaker 5: so both of us. I put on some weight that year,
- 43:30Speaker 5: that's for sure.
- 43:30Speaker 3: There's nothing better being on the road with the guys
- 43:33Speaker 3: in that ice cream late night after dinner, just just
- 43:36Speaker 3: the hot scoop of chocolate, scoop of vanilla.
- 43:39Speaker 5: It was before all the guys had their own rooms too,
- 43:41Speaker 5: so everyone you had roommates and stuff too, so it
- 43:43Speaker 5: was fun.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and if your if your roommate was eating, you
- 43:46Speaker 3: were eating with them or.
- 43:49Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 43:51Speaker 3: I mean, uh, you know, you finish up your NHL
- 43:53Speaker 3: carew too. You know, back on the Islanders a bit,
- 43:55Speaker 3: you talked about it a little bit going back for
- 43:57Speaker 3: the year, but you know, talk about the Rick d
- 44:00Speaker 3: pahro of it all and did you ever you know,
- 44:03Speaker 3: looking back the way his career went when you played
- 44:06Speaker 3: with him, being like that would ever be a possibility
- 44:09Speaker 3: of something happening just the way he kind of came out,
- 44:12Speaker 3: was shot out of a cannon and then disappeared as
- 44:14Speaker 3: quickly as he came in.
- 44:16Speaker 5: Just as injuries. I mean, Ricky was you know, he
- 44:18Speaker 5: could handle a puck with the best of them. You
- 44:20Speaker 5: know as an athlete, he was a good goaltender, no question.
- 44:22Speaker 5: I mean the first time I met him, he was
- 44:24Speaker 5: jack too. You know, you can tell he was in
- 44:26Speaker 5: the weight room a lot, just as much, and that's
- 44:28Speaker 5: kind of very odd for a goaltender. But you know,
- 44:30Speaker 5: I just think his injuries, I think his knees as
- 44:32Speaker 5: hips more as hips than anything from ended his career.
- 44:35Speaker 5: It just shows, I mean stuff, the sports stuff. You know,
- 44:37Speaker 5: you can be you can be a top of your game,
- 44:40Speaker 5: you know, at any time, and then it kind of
- 44:41Speaker 5: can be taken away from you. So you get to
- 44:43Speaker 5: kind of count your blessings for sure.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Yeah, oh, you gotta tell his tal coming in.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Well, I was just gonna ask quickly Brian about you know,
- 44:54Speaker 4: your your draft day and your your draft in general.
- 44:57Speaker 3: First overall pick, it's a big deal.
- 44:59Speaker 4: You know, you're taken by Ottawa, which is a team
- 45:01Speaker 4: that's building up all these assets at the time, and
- 45:03Speaker 4: before you know it, you know, you don't even end
- 45:05Speaker 4: up in Autoway. You get traded for Wade Red And
- 45:08Speaker 4: just curious what you had to share about that experience.
- 45:11Speaker 4: I mean, it must have been just an absolute whirlwind
- 45:13Speaker 4: for an eighteen year old kid. Who's getting ready to
- 45:15Speaker 4: start his NHL career.
- 45:18Speaker 5: It was I mean, the draft day was awesome. I
- 45:19Speaker 5: mean obviously was an Edmonton you know, some some pretty
- 45:22Speaker 5: big names like Doan, Gimba, Wade Red and a lot
- 45:24Speaker 5: of guys that had great careers went. You know, that
- 45:29Speaker 5: day was you know, my whole family was at brothers, siblings,
- 45:32Speaker 5: you know, my parents. It was a really good day
- 45:35Speaker 5: and I was pumped. Obviously going for Soroll, I was
- 45:38Speaker 5: kind of going back and forth. I didn't know if
- 45:40Speaker 5: I was going to go, but we kind of had
- 45:41Speaker 5: a pretty good idea. On draft day, went to Auto
- 45:44Speaker 5: Senators and to be honest, I kind of got a
- 45:46Speaker 5: bad rap right away because American kid not want to
- 45:48Speaker 5: play in Canada and that was untrue. But definitely I
- 45:50Speaker 5: played in Toronto. That's probably my best city I played in.
- 45:53Speaker 5: Went to Ottawa and that was a problem. I had
- 45:55Speaker 5: a lot of young guys. You know, they had a
- 45:57Speaker 5: lot of young guys. Are really no leadership, especially in
- 45:59Speaker 5: the general man. I don't want to rip on anybody,
- 46:02Speaker 5: but yeah, that the limitations is gone now that point.
- 46:08Speaker 5: The organization was just in a tough spot. So I
- 46:10Speaker 5: went into you know, I went into my first NHL
- 46:12Speaker 5: locker room and just had a bad taste in my
- 46:14Speaker 5: mouth right away. And then they sent me back. You know,
- 46:17Speaker 5: I was kind of I was hoping and ego wise,
- 46:20Speaker 5: you know, being an eighteen year old kid not too
- 46:21Speaker 5: many players play, you know, getting drafted first overall and
- 46:23Speaker 5: playing that next year, and that was a goald mine.
- 46:25Speaker 5: I wanted to play in NHL, was eighteen years old,
- 46:27Speaker 5: and worn Otto sent me home and kind of left
- 46:29Speaker 5: the bad taste in my mouth. It was it wasn't
- 46:31Speaker 5: my hockey decision, it was a financial decision. And that's
- 46:34Speaker 5: what kind of all started. Bruce Garrett at the time
- 46:37Speaker 5: kind of told us, you know, off the record, what
- 46:39Speaker 5: was going on upstairs. And I had Tom Laidlower's an
- 46:42Speaker 5: agent then and just like, let's get me out of here.
- 46:44Speaker 5: So I went back to junior and then they traded
- 46:45Speaker 5: me to you know, Millbury, I know, was having some
- 46:48Speaker 5: issues with read and at the time at training camp
- 46:49Speaker 5: as well started coming showing up from some of my
- 46:52Speaker 5: junior games. So I know the trade was close and
- 46:55Speaker 5: and then there it was, so it kind of it
- 46:57Speaker 5: was a three There was a big deal. Actually it
- 46:58Speaker 5: was a three team trade. I think yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 47:01Speaker 5: it was huge. A lot of players went everywhere. But
- 47:03Speaker 5: I think the but you know, Redding had an unreal career,
- 47:06Speaker 5: so I think they worked out and worked out for
- 47:08Speaker 5: Auto as well.
- 47:09Speaker 3: I think it worked out for It's one of those
- 47:11Speaker 3: the you know, if people get hung off on like
- 47:14Speaker 3: somebody's got to win and lose in a trade. I'm like,
- 47:16Speaker 3: sometimes everybody wins, and that's that's kind of the way
- 47:18Speaker 3: they're designed and meant to be. But you know, a
- 47:21Speaker 3: group that always wins is is your little cast of characters,
- 47:25Speaker 3: You Loops, you know, talk about meet and Jeoffrey Loopol
- 47:30Speaker 3: and you guys striking up quite a very significant friendship
- 47:34Speaker 3: and and you know, if guys have spent a lot
- 47:37Speaker 3: of time together, you know, I've kind of been around
- 47:39Speaker 3: you guys with you know, Ob and Shane O'Brien and
- 47:42Speaker 3: and Upshaw and all those guys, And I mean, you
- 47:44Speaker 3: guys are just some of the must watch TV hilarious
- 47:48Speaker 3: conversations that I've been able to kind of be a
- 47:50Speaker 3: fly on the wall and listen to. You guys are
- 47:51Speaker 3: just so funny when you guys get going. But talk
- 47:54Speaker 3: a bit about Loophole and how he came into your
- 47:57Speaker 3: life and how you guys have just kind of created
- 47:58Speaker 3: this Colorado Extreme which is like just an amazing event.
- 48:01Speaker 3: I think that is a testament to your guys' closeness.
- 48:04Speaker 5: Yeah, that's I mean, those those guys I met basically
- 48:08Speaker 5: the Three Musketeers right or you got Obi, Obi, Uppy
- 48:10Speaker 5: and Loops. I met him first just out kind of
- 48:13Speaker 5: in the Newport, California area. We did a couple the
- 48:16Speaker 5: Vegas tournaments started, just started hanging out. I started during
- 48:20Speaker 5: the lockout, went off to the West Coast and started
- 48:23Speaker 5: hanging out those guys. Obviously, golf was big me and Up.
- 48:25Speaker 5: He would take on Obi and Obi and Loops all
- 48:27Speaker 5: the time, you know, in the golf course. And just
- 48:31Speaker 5: that's how our friendship began and then just kind of
- 48:33Speaker 5: stayed due that. You know, they're younger obviously, probably seventy
- 48:35Speaker 5: eight years younger than I am, you know, the kind
- 48:37Speaker 5: of you know, I went to Phillies camp too, that
- 48:40Speaker 5: was my last NHL camp, and those guys, you know,
- 48:41Speaker 5: Uppy and Loops are there and and just the friendship
- 48:44Speaker 5: was kind of born. And still we got a really
- 48:46Speaker 5: good group of guys hockey in and some baseball guys
- 48:49Speaker 5: as well, you know, just from the West coast and
- 48:51Speaker 5: you know kind of led me to coloradur stream. I mean,
- 48:53Speaker 5: those guys moved out to Aspen obviously during COVID ever
- 48:55Speaker 5: already mentioned that and then yeah, you know I lean
- 48:58Speaker 5: on them too. We have a we have a big
- 49:00Speaker 5: it's our biggest fundraise. So it's Colorado Extreme's biggest fundraiser
- 49:02Speaker 5: coming up. It's it's a fan camp as well. It's
- 49:05Speaker 5: December eleventh to the fourteenth. It's in Aspen. It's it's
- 49:09Speaker 5: an epic weekend. Guys coming on Thursday to stay. The
- 49:12Speaker 5: Sunday we play the on The big game is Saturday
- 49:15Speaker 5: at three pm. We played the as alumni, so we
- 49:17Speaker 5: got about forty I'd say about forty top, you know,
- 49:20Speaker 5: old players coming in for this weekend. Yeah, it's it's huge.
- 49:24Speaker 5: And we had a Fantasy camp you know, part this year.
- 49:28Speaker 5: So on Friday, we're bringing all campers. It's going to
- 49:30Speaker 5: be a complete NHL experience. We got all the equipment
- 49:32Speaker 5: managers coming in. It's amazing. Yeah, so we get to
- 49:35Speaker 5: the we got the Fantasy Camp game. The goal the
- 49:38Speaker 5: goalies are Mark Andre Fleury and Lunk Twist, so there's
- 49:41Speaker 5: not gonna be many goals scored from these campers. Yeah, came.
- 49:44Speaker 5: The campus should be pumped up. So I'll send you
- 49:46Speaker 5: guys some stuff if you don't mind putting it out there.
- 49:48Speaker 5: But yeah, yeah, I appreciate. It's gonna be a great weekend. Lot.
- 49:53Speaker 5: I gotta get in shape, but I just I just
- 49:55Speaker 5: got drafted in a men's league out there, so I'm
- 49:57Speaker 5: looking forward to start playing the games to play in
- 50:00Speaker 5: the playoffs. But but I'm probably I'll probably be the
- 50:03Speaker 5: worst player on the ice, to be honest with I.
- 50:05Speaker 3: Mean, anytime you go to Colorado, it's like and you'd
- 50:07Speaker 3: play the Avalanche. It's like, guys just survived the first shift.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Don't get caught out there in the first shift that.
- 50:13Speaker 5: Morning usually the morning skates. When I suck wind, I die,
- 50:16Speaker 5: and if I dake game time, I'm usually kind of adapted.
- 50:18Speaker 5: But it's it's definitely it definitely takes a toll, especially
- 50:20Speaker 5: where we are. We're gonna be playing. We're down valley
- 50:23Speaker 5: a little bit, but the fantasy game is gonna be
- 50:24Speaker 5: up in Aspens, so we're probably gonna be around eight
- 50:26Speaker 5: nine thousand feet, so there'll definitely be some guys sucking
- 50:28Speaker 5: some wind geez for sure.
- 50:30Speaker 1: Altitude always a challenge, Brian, honestly, man, congrats, So what
- 50:33Speaker 1: was a terrific NHL career, certainly inspiring the way overcame adversity,
- 50:37Speaker 1: playing in different franchises and doing a ton of great
- 50:40Speaker 1: work now post career alumni charitable events, great stuff.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Man, congrats, Thanks guys, thanks for having me.
- 50:44Speaker 5: I appreciate it.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Thanks once again at Brian Barrard. He was terrific.
- 50:55Speaker 1: We'll get to some of our favorite names in hockey
- 50:57Speaker 1: history in just a second, but first, Cinephile in sixty
- 51:00Speaker 1: I've been immersed in the World Series in addition to hockey.
- 51:03Speaker 1: Was great to be back in Toronto for the first
- 51:05Speaker 1: two games. Other World Series Jason Dodgers. So I've not
- 51:07Speaker 1: had time any time to watch movies, but Talpinschewsky has
- 51:11Speaker 1: he's squinting right now, isn't about pro Beach Hockey?
- 51:15Speaker 3: Mister magoo, The floor's yours.
- 51:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:18Speaker 4: I had a great time last week. Was able to
- 51:20Speaker 4: attend a very cool screening. Uh here in southern California
- 51:25Speaker 4: have this cool new film called The pro Beach Hockey.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Got to meet the meet the director.
- 51:29Speaker 4: After Jake Simperman is his name, talented guy worked on
- 51:33Speaker 4: this for a long time. Uh, Genie Busses in the
- 51:36Speaker 4: film Luke Robotie, Pat Bresson, Bobby Ryan and it's it's
- 51:40Speaker 4: it's about roller hockey, but it's really about this is
- 51:43Speaker 4: crazy to think about it.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Basically, in the.
- 51:45Speaker 4: Nineties there was a Beach roller Hockey league in Huntington
- 51:51Speaker 4: Beach in Los Angeles that it aired on ESPN two
- 51:55Speaker 4: and it was just this cool renegade league, this new
- 51:57Speaker 4: form of hockey. And the cool craziest part about it
- 52:02Speaker 4: was that the sideline reporter, uh for this league on
- 52:06Speaker 4: ESPN two, is this this young u n h alum
- 52:10Speaker 4: named Ellen Weinberg who would eventually years later go on
- 52:14Speaker 4: to be Ellen Weinberg Hughes, the mother of Quinn, Jake
- 52:18Speaker 4: and Luke Hughes.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Yeah yet, what so there you go.
- 52:23Speaker 4: So if you're we're talking to the Hughes brothers, ask
- 52:26Speaker 4: them about their mom being on ESPN two back in
- 52:28Speaker 4: the day that I'm.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Really going from the Blues Brothers to the Hughes brothers.
- 52:33Speaker 3: Go ahead, Just really cool film, interesting story.
- 52:37Speaker 4: You know, we like talking about the convergence of hockey
- 52:40Speaker 4: and movies when we can. We're trying to get j
- 52:43Speaker 4: D cast as the racist coach on this new young
- 52:46Speaker 4: Blood movies.
- 52:47Speaker 3: So give me one racist movie, give me one.
- 52:51Speaker 4: So here's just just a really cool film pro beach Hockey.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Uh.
- 52:55Speaker 4: I'm not sure when there'll be other screenings or when
- 52:57Speaker 4: you'll be able to catch it, but great job by Jake.
- 53:00Speaker 3: And a really fun film. It's it's really cool. I
- 53:04Speaker 3: I was at this, Uh there's this event in San
- 53:07Speaker 3: Francisco and Max McCormick was there. It was signed with
- 53:10Speaker 3: the Crack and he said surgery. He's part of that
- 53:13Speaker 3: film as well. And they're like, you know, they're looking
- 53:15Speaker 3: for distribution. I mean at one point, I don't know
- 53:19Speaker 3: if you mentioned this, but at one point they was
- 53:22Speaker 3: like more viewed. They had more views than like an
- 53:25Speaker 3: NBA playoff game or something, or an NHL hockey game.
- 53:28Speaker 3: Like it was like a they had some ratings that
- 53:31Speaker 3: were insane. I don't know if you saw that in
- 53:33Speaker 3: the movie, but if they mentioned it, tal but it's
- 53:37Speaker 3: a really dah they did.
- 53:38Speaker 4: They got great ratings and it was just this machine
- 53:40Speaker 4: of content. They literally they they brought in all these
- 53:43Speaker 4: guys to play. They'd come in on the weekend. They
- 53:45Speaker 4: built a outdoor roller rink on the beach, and these
- 53:50Speaker 4: guys would come in every weekend. They'd played two, three,
- 53:53Speaker 4: four games every weekend. They'd get them a bunch of
- 53:55Speaker 4: hotel rooms to stay near the rink. They just absolutely
- 53:59Speaker 4: tie went on all weekend.
- 54:00Speaker 2: It was a party. Yeah, it was totally.
- 54:02Speaker 4: Unique, very cool moment for the for the game before
- 54:06Speaker 4: all the homeless were there.
- 54:07Speaker 3: Oh my god, are you kidding me? On the beach
- 54:11Speaker 3: in Cali.
- 54:12Speaker 2: Get the homeless involved, right, grab a stick.
- 54:14Speaker 1: If you want some money, you gotta gotta, you know,
- 54:17Speaker 1: defend before they yeah.
- 54:18Speaker 3: Before before they destroyed that that state. Oh no, I'm
- 54:24Speaker 3: not a hey controversial. It's an amazing it's an amazing Honestly,
- 54:33Speaker 3: it's it's a cool story. Well probably arguably one of
- 54:36Speaker 3: the better sizzle reels you'll see out there in trailers.
- 54:41Speaker 3: So I always implore people. But I talked to Max
- 54:43Speaker 3: McCormick about it, and he mentioned Simperton and and and uh,
- 54:49Speaker 3: just a very cool I mean the fact you a
- 54:52Speaker 3: Genie Buss is incredible to kind of dedicate some time
- 54:56Speaker 3: to this as well, Like this was the thing, Like
- 54:58Speaker 3: she's not it's the Lakers talking about the Lakers.
- 55:02Speaker 2: No, she's got quite a bit of credibility's no quiet.
- 55:04Speaker 4: Well, she said, the reason she's in it is because
- 55:06Speaker 4: there was a there was a roller hockey league, a
- 55:09Speaker 4: pro roller hockey league that preceded this beach league, and
- 55:12Speaker 4: she owned a team in Los Angeles, and she admits
- 55:15Speaker 4: in the film that owning that team kind of showed
- 55:18Speaker 4: her dad that she could.
- 55:20Speaker 3: Do the job of running the Lakers one day. And
- 55:22Speaker 3: that was that was really yeah, tal amazing stuff, amazing work.
- 55:27Speaker 3: This is kind of one of the this is kind
- 55:29Speaker 3: of one of the better cinophiles.
- 55:31Speaker 2: This is actually this is he's i mean huge brothers.
- 55:36Speaker 2: He's dropping gd bus Well.
- 55:38Speaker 3: It's like it's a it's a nice change of pace
- 55:40Speaker 3: from all the David Bammott play right cinephiles, you know,
- 55:44Speaker 3: and talking Francis Ford Coppola. This is a little more
- 55:48Speaker 3: populist and a little hey, but it's this is great.
- 55:52Speaker 3: I love Cinephile's great centephile and sixty and.
- 55:56Speaker 1: Sixty continues, Uh, we want to talk about some funny
- 56:00Speaker 1: names though, because top point at the of the day
- 56:01Speaker 1: in the HL Saturday Night Blackhawks prospect Marcel ourselves facing
- 56:05Speaker 1: offense Abas prospect, Ivan Ivan just awesome. I remember, I
- 56:09Speaker 1: remember what Ivan Ivan got drafted, Like, I can't wait
- 56:11Speaker 1: that this guy I've played against them, you played against
- 56:14Speaker 1: talk to you about Ivan Ivan.
- 56:16Speaker 3: I mean, what's there to talk about?
- 56:17Speaker 2: Good player?
- 56:18Speaker 3: Yeah, good player, a better name.
- 56:20Speaker 2: He's like Jimmy two times every time you said everything,
- 56:23Speaker 2: it's a two times, Get the papers.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Get the papers. Mitchie State Forward, Riley Funk. Favorite names
- 56:29Speaker 1: in hockey So I love Don Bopray because it's a kid.
- 56:31Speaker 2: It was just such a fun name to say, Don
- 56:33Speaker 2: Bouprey Al post So and I mentioned earlier. I mean
- 56:37Speaker 2: Ron tug that I mentioned a Chris Berman. Oh you're
- 56:40Speaker 2: not gonna be Ron Ron. You've got a couple of
- 56:43Speaker 2: beauties as well. JD.
- 56:44Speaker 3: How about for your favorite hockey names, Well, you know
- 56:46Speaker 3: the there's always the ones where people say, like, you know,
- 56:49Speaker 3: Ron Tugnet because you're like, you know, you tugged a
- 56:52Speaker 3: drive or something, or you pulled some Billy guarantee. But listen,
- 56:57Speaker 3: we used to play a game which like helped with
- 56:59Speaker 3: your hockey knowledge. Player knowledge is basically, you say a name,
- 57:04Speaker 3: so you'll say a name of a player in the league.
- 57:06Speaker 3: So let's say you start with. You start with Chris
- 57:09Speaker 3: Pronger because you love Pronger. You have a heart on
- 57:10Speaker 3: for progress. You say Chris Pronger. You have to take
- 57:13Speaker 3: the first letter of the last name, and that is
- 57:16Speaker 3: the first letter of the first name of the next player.
- 57:20Speaker 3: And you got to just keep going until somebody forgets
- 57:23Speaker 3: a name. So if I'd say Chris Pronger, you'd say
- 57:26Speaker 3: Paul Korea. Now it's a K. So you got to
- 57:28Speaker 3: go with a K. You got to think of a
- 57:30Speaker 3: player on the spot. It could be current or former.
- 57:33Speaker 3: And if you say a name that has so if
- 57:36Speaker 3: it's like Chris, Chelio, so, c C, it flips the
- 57:39Speaker 3: rotation so it goes back. So like there's all these
- 57:42Speaker 3: and we used to play in junior on the bus
- 57:44Speaker 3: for hours, on these twelve hour bus rides, and you'd
- 57:47Speaker 3: go through all these names, and you'd always try to
- 57:50Speaker 3: get to Z because Z is working agains squirrely, you know,
- 57:54Speaker 3: zemgiz Gergensin's wasn't in the league at that time, but
- 57:57Speaker 3: like you had zadan O'chara, Ziggy Palfie. But then you
- 58:00Speaker 3: had one of my favorites, zar Le's Elapski. Yes, I
- 58:05Speaker 3: call we called that one the finisher. If you could
- 58:07Speaker 3: make your way to Zarle's Elabski, you were finishing nice
- 58:11Speaker 3: and he is one of the all time great mugs
- 58:15Speaker 3: on hockey dB. Zarly'sz Elabski played twenty years professional hockey
- 58:20Speaker 3: because he went over to Europe in like twenty years.
- 58:23Speaker 3: He's forty one when he retired. Amazing stuff. The Zilapper
- 58:27Speaker 3: Harry SITTERI.
- 58:28Speaker 1: You think of my guy, tell you was playing forty six.
- 58:30Speaker 1: He's still in the HL. The fact that Zelabski is
- 58:32Speaker 1: going into his forties is probably not well documented, but
- 58:35Speaker 1: I love the fact that's the checkmate. Like in chesshi, Okay,
- 58:37Speaker 1: what's the pivotal move? If you watch Searching Brawye Fisher, Oh,
- 58:40Speaker 1: if you get the Queen of a b Charlie's Zilabsky
- 58:42Speaker 1: was the finishing move.
- 58:44Speaker 2: Tao's some favorite names. Cal Clutterbuck is an excellent one.
- 58:47Speaker 3: What else do you can know?
- 58:49Speaker 1: Dal just said to be Rob Clinkhammer and Cal Harry
- 58:53Speaker 1: Steri is one of my favorites.
- 58:56Speaker 3: I mean, Zemgiz Gigginsons is hard to is great. Also,
- 59:01Speaker 3: Ouvis Malynsky's this was another one.
- 59:06Speaker 2: I think you're just gonna say OUI croup I always OI group.
- 59:09Speaker 3: Yeah, who else did I play with that had a
- 59:14Speaker 3: I mean I played with Harry SEITERI.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Tal.
- 59:17Speaker 3: I'm trying to think of some other ones. I mean,
- 59:19Speaker 3: I'm sure you could go into the you know, the Fins,
- 59:22Speaker 3: the finish and and I'm sure they'd have some Yeah,
- 59:27Speaker 3: you get.
- 59:27Speaker 2: Some goofy names one of them along the way.
- 59:29Speaker 3: By the way, did we did we even mention? Did
- 59:31Speaker 3: we glaze over the Thomas Harley signing? Are we are?
- 59:34Speaker 2: We see it? For?
- 59:35Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 59:35Speaker 2: Listen, this is a guy broke out obviously the last
- 59:38Speaker 2: couple of seasons with the Stars.
- 59:39Speaker 3: You're looking at what is it ten point eight a
- 59:41Speaker 3: a v ten point five eight seven jeepers man that
- 59:44Speaker 3: is a that is a A one defenseman, that is
- 59:49Speaker 3: a top pair that is like a franchise defenseman signing.
- 59:54Speaker 3: I mean maybe a year ago because now it's like,
- 59:56Speaker 3: but I think it's a little.
- 59:57Speaker 1: Rate, Like I don't want to say he's a rat.
- 59:59Speaker 1: I think he's a good player. Like the money's a
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: little steep in my view. When I saw it was like,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: I know the CAP's going up. I never gets but
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I'm like, I thought he's an eight million dollars year player.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: He's like ten and a half.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: Oh, he carried that team last year. I think he
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: earned it. I think he's he is a yeah, I
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: mean he's worth it. I'm very high on him, you
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: know this. Always have been right in the Harley all day,
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: every day, rev the engine. He revs my engine. So
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: but yeah, I think it's a good deal. I listen,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: who knows where the CAP's going to go after the
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: next two years, But it seems like revenue is going up, up,
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: up up up. So yeah, you know, dumb ass me
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: doing a podcast.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: For you could still come back one year deal.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: I keep saying, Yeah, I look good right now too.
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: Body's tight, he's tight.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: I'm sure it is last topic here, speaking of veterans
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: still getting it done.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Sidney Crosby seventeen hundred points.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: He reaches the miles to a family in the crowded
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: PPG Paints Arena, ninth all time on the scoring list,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: behind his buddy Mario Lemieux. He has a chance to
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: pass Lemieux and Steve Eisman to get his high at seventh.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: He turns thirty nine this summer.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: I don't think he's gonna get to two thousand points,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: but I don't want to bet against him.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: I think Sid gets to over eighteen hundred points.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: I still think it's one hundred points left in I
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: think he's still got two years still left in him.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: I'm going to say eighteen forty he finishes. What do
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: you got?
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: He's at what now?
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Too?
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: He's at seventeen hundred, So I'm gonna say a couple
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: more years.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: I should know that. Duh, seventeen hundred hover for thenwork.
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: I just saw the number and you just said it. Listen,
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: Jay two more.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: He's still about a point a game player, I think, Yeah,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: eighteen thirty forty, that's it.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: It's you know, Sid loves and his express that much.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: He loves to play the game and wants to keep playing,
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: and that's like what he does. So you know, it's
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: a lot different than Novech Can. I feel like, is
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: this is his final tour and he's he's gonna go
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: play in the KHL after next year, he's just going
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: to retire. I just feel like Sid just loves the
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: game so much. I can't see him not coming out
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: of this in the next two years. So yeah, I
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: could see him put I mean, he's not slowing down.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: I mean, this guy is unbelievable. He's so good. And
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: if they keep putting a team around him and keep
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: putting players or trying to you know that, and if
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: you know ownership and Dubas aren't like Major League where
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: they're just removing all the all the nice cities that
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: you have in the NHL. That's what I feel like
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: this team has been like for the last few years,
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: where they just keep taking players from him, like good players,
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: putting him with young kids. It's Major League all over again.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: It's his Major League. He's the catcher.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: Every time take a piece off, that's it.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: We just take a piece off. That's what it feels like.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: Dubus is trying to do it, and this guy just refuses,
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: refuses to die. He does not want to die. You
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: cannot get rid of him.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Crosby resputing if he gets to eighteen hundred, he'll be
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: fifth all times. I'll say he gets to eighteen fifty one,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: because Gordy Howe is fourth right now. To eighteen fifty,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I think he just passes mister hockey and that's it.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Fifty one for Sid.
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: I'd say eighteen eighty two.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Wow, Okay, the TV show eight to eighty two.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: Well, yeah, eighteen eighty two, the you know, the year
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: of the invasion, and uh, the Boston tea Party eighteen
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: eighty two. I don't think it was. I don't think
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: it was that. It's made that up.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Seventeen seventeen seventy seven. Seventeen seventy six is the Declaration
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: of Independence. I'm gonna say the tea party was probably
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: seventies seventy seventeen seventy four. Some were in there. That's
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: my guess. Last thought here, by the way, Messi's third eighteen.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: He's not gonna get to Messy exactly. You don't need
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: to know these things.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: Last thought for Halloween.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: Right around the corner, we're discussing an Amazon Prime coast
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: to coast people can be dressing up and immediately brought
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: up JD's get up last year Reno nine one one
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: the Nu Huggers, in which your balls were essentially exposed
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: coast to coast in Canada.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: What are you in jail doing for Halloween? This different?
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: I don't want to know. It's just give me a
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: sneak brief. Your Boston tea party, by the way, confirmed
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: seventeen seventy three.
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: Go ahead, I was close taking a wild get.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: Usaid eighteen eighty three.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: I said, now, I said, seventeen seventy seven, after over
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: four years, Oh yeah, when I was balls deep in
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: that costume.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that was the first to me. Max
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: I saw it.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Who is this guy? You're doing a podcast to that guy? Friend?
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Hey friend Reno nine?
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: And like did he keep it on the whole time?
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: To go out? How cold is that studio? It looks
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: like he's smuggling grapes in there.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: I don't think it was out. They were hanging pretty
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: low that day. They were hanging pretty low. I'm a worker.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: Uh no, listen, Uh are.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: You gonna be on the air this Halloween? Let me
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: ask you that.
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: No, I'm not. I start. I think I start back
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: on the fifth. But but we funny story the other day.
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: I was like, it was the twenty fifth. Twenty fifth,
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: So like two weeks ago, I'm sitting at home and
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: I'm part of this like group chat that somebody had
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: me to this this one buddy of mine. I don't
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: know anybody else in the group chat. There's like twenty people.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: It's like a pickleball group chat. These guys are all
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: like pro pickleball players and they just set up days
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: to go play pickleball. So, you know, unbeknownst to me,
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: I haven't really you know, checked in, I haven't been around,
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: but all you know, two weeks ago, I get a
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: flyer in the group chat and it says, you know,
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: there's a Hallow come join this Halloween party at set address.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: And I look at Jill and I'm like, should we
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: just do it? Should we just like crash it? Because
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't know anybody at this event, like nobody,
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: don't know one person that.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: Sounds like I see it a friendship.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Yes, yes, similar, not really but similar. So we went
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: as Jill posted on it on Instagram, but we went
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: as She went as Aunk Gladdison weapons.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Nice, that's great.
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: Yeah, And I and you know, thinking, now, I don't
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: know if I I don't know if I culturally appropriate
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: anything because I did Asian face. So but I didn't
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: do Asian face. I went as the vice principal that
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: gets she basically she makes him kill the essentially the
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: iconic scene or the guys running in the and jumps
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: on the girl and tries to kill her. That's who
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: I went as with the eyeballs bulged out and everything.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: So I went that.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: Yeah, so I went as that, But then I realized
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: that it was an Asian actor. So I was like,
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: did I do something wrong? I don't know.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: This part's probably getting edited, is it.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: I'm more like a question like is that are we are?
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: We said? In today's world? Don't get uncomfortable. I'm I'm
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: admitting to it. I'm like, did I sure you're not.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Being exposed by you're getting in front of it. It's
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: not like it's a movie, that's it. Yeah, well it's.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: A character in movie. I'm not I'm playing the guy
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: that was. Yeah, I'm not. You know, so that that's
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: the question. Like I didn't. There wasn't any altering of
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: my It's it was me wearing the clothes essentially of
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: that actor and portraying him in essence.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: I think people know your wife's a Thespian, they know
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: that you're getting a characterize.
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: But that you know, like where is the line drawn?
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Like you know, that's my question as we continue and
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: we'll see if this makes it. But you know you
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: could you could? You can't do blackface, that's that's no. No,
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: or like you can't dress. I'm not going to go
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: on a turban or anything and and or you know
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: what I mean, or put on a put on a
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: play like a anyway, but like playing a sentence.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: That's why I don't want to jump to help, because
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: you can playing like I go what like where you
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: going with this?
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: I'm not gonna sentence.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: I'm sure.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: I'm just he's an Asian, he's.
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: An Asian actor, but I'm not playing an Asian actor,
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: playing essentially the guy that was killed. And I'm playing
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: Benedict Wong. That's who I'm playing. He's the actor of
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: the movie is Benedict Wang, and I'm playing him. But
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: I didn't even realize it. Looked at my wife and
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: I'm like, is this bad?
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: I said, what did you do for Halloween? I dressed
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: up as Benedict Wong?
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: Speaking of great names, move over, Benedict Cumberbatch.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: We have we have a new Benedict on the block,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: Benedict Carld, Benedict Cumberbatch, and he's making his impact.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: You know, I listen, I think I'm I think I'm
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: in the clear. The thing is is that nobody the
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: best part about it so anyways, getting back to it,
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: So we walk into this party and and we don't
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: know anybody, and this guy's house is like head to
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: toe it's like a haunted house. Open bar, open, you know,
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: there's food every wear, like amazing food. And we end
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: up like there's a glow in the dark pickleball court,
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: and we just basically walk in and like we own
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: the place, Asian appropriation and all. And I just we
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: just we just had a great night. And we ended
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: up meeting the owner of the house, and we ended
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: up having all these weird connections of knowing all these
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: different people in the city. So it was pretty funny.
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: We're the only people that will crash the Halloween party
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: if you invite us and potentially get in trouble.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: I thought Jill's costume is awesome.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: I mean, weapons is going to get some Oscar buss
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Amy Madigan might win an Academy award. I mean that
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: that's a good costume of her. You was Benedict Wang,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: not bad, you.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: Know what we said. I was like, listen, Hunt, I've
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: kind of led the dance for the last few years.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: I'm like her the star.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I like that's good of you.
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: Dangle Yeah.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Anyway, Brian Barard was the star here an angel inscriptive
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: thanks once again to him.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Thanks for checking us out. We'll be back next week,
