- 0:43Speaker 1: just about everybody understands that the day of rest is Sunday.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Some of us don't find rest in any day. And
- 0:52Speaker 1: this is where getting into the Word and being able
- 0:56Speaker 1: to not only just Bible study, but also live out
- 1:05Speaker 1: these verses as well as not just seeing how you
- 1:09Speaker 1: can apply them to your life, but have them be
- 1:12Speaker 1: of your life. And let's jump into it. Matthew Chapter twelve,
- 1:18Speaker 1: Verse one on a Jewish Day of rest. Jesus was
- 1:21Speaker 1: walking through some fields where wheat was growing. His disciples
- 1:26Speaker 1: were hungry, so they began to pick some of the
- 1:29Speaker 1: grains of wheat. They began to eat them verse two.
- 1:34Speaker 1: While the disciples were doing this, some Pharisees saw them.
- 1:39Speaker 1: They said to Jesus, look at your disciples. Look at
- 1:44Speaker 1: what your disciples are doing. It is against God's law
- 1:48Speaker 1: to do that on our day of rest. You see
- 1:51Speaker 1: how the Pharisees says our day of rest. That's how
- 1:55Speaker 1: the Pharisees were just about their law. This man messed
- 2:00Speaker 1: up a lot of things. That's why Jesus was sent.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So let's get into the little deeper though. Verse three
- 2:05Speaker 1: states Jesus replied, you have certainly read about what David did.
- 2:11Speaker 1: One day, he and the men who were with him
- 2:15Speaker 1: were hungry. Verse four. David went into the temple. He
- 2:20Speaker 1: ate the special bread that was there. He also gave
- 2:23Speaker 1: some of it to his men to eat as well.
- 2:27Speaker 1: But it is against God's law for anyone except the
- 2:30Speaker 1: priests to eat that special bread. Hm. Jesus really came
- 2:37Speaker 1: in broke things down more than just payable. Let me
- 2:43Speaker 1: go deeper. Hold on, so it's verse five. You also
- 2:46Speaker 1: know what God's Law says about the priests. They work
- 2:51Speaker 1: in the temple even on the day of rest. They
- 2:54Speaker 1: have not obeyed the law about the day of rest.
- 2:58Speaker 1: But God's Law tells us that they have. They have
- 3:02Speaker 1: not done anything that is wrong. Verse six states, but
- 3:06Speaker 1: I tell you this, there is someone here now who
- 3:11Speaker 1: has greater authority even than the temple. Verse seven. You
- 3:16Speaker 1: should understand what the Bible teaches. God says there, I
- 3:22Speaker 1: want people to be kind to each other. I do
- 3:25Speaker 1: not just want them to offer sacrifices to me. If
- 3:30Speaker 1: you had understood this, then you would not have said
- 3:35Speaker 1: to me, your disciples are doing something wrong. Verse eight.
- 3:40Speaker 1: The son of man has authority over rules about the
- 3:43Speaker 1: day of rest. And before we get into verse nine,
- 3:46Speaker 1: it's going to be titled Jesus makes a man well
- 3:49Speaker 1: on the day of rest. So there's a lot of
- 3:51Speaker 1: things that are going on here, and not only just
- 3:57Speaker 1: the day of rest, but Sunday right where it's Pharisees
- 4:01Speaker 1: opportunity to try to show fault in Jesus so he
- 4:06Speaker 1: can be it was just all Jesus trying to not
- 4:14Speaker 1: only provide more and more evidence by that he was
- 4:17Speaker 1: the son of God, but he was definitely not being
- 4:24Speaker 1: reconciling with the Pharisees whatsoever. And they were supposed to
- 4:30Speaker 1: be the religious, godly people. Right, let's get deeper. Though
- 4:34Speaker 1: A man was there his hand all right, this is
- 4:38Speaker 1: actually I went a little ahead of myself. Then Jesus
- 4:41Speaker 1: left that place. He went into the Jewish meeting place
- 4:45Speaker 1: verse ten. A man was there. His hand was very
- 4:49Speaker 1: small and weak, so he could not use it. Some
- 4:52Speaker 1: pharisees asked, Jesus, is it right to make someone well
- 4:57Speaker 1: again on your day of rest? They wanted to find
- 5:01Speaker 1: a reason to say that Jesus was doing wrong things.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Let's go ahead and close it out here. Jesus said
- 5:08Speaker 1: to them, maybe one of you has a sheep that
- 5:11Speaker 1: falls into a deep hole on your day of rest.
- 5:15Speaker 1: What will you do. You will take hold of it,
- 5:18Speaker 1: and you will lift it out of the hole Verse twelve.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You know that a man is much more valuable than
- 5:26Speaker 1: a sheep, so it is right for us to do
- 5:29Speaker 1: good things on our day of rest. Then Jesus said
- 5:34Speaker 1: to the man with the we can lift up your hand.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So the man lifted up his hand and it became
- 5:40Speaker 1: well again. It was not as strong as his other
- 5:44Speaker 1: hand verse fourteen. Then the Pharisees went out from the
- 5:48Speaker 1: meeting place. They began to talk to each other about
- 5:51Speaker 1: how they could kill Jesus. And Jesus is God's special servant,
- 5:59Speaker 1: let me tell you, obviously the son of God. But
- 6:02Speaker 1: Jesus knew that the Pharisees wanted to kill him, so
- 6:05Speaker 1: he went away from that place. A large crowd of
- 6:09Speaker 1: people followed him. He made all the sick people become
- 6:12Speaker 1: well again. So even as he was going to be crucified,
- 6:17Speaker 1: he knew that they wanted to kill him. He was
- 6:19Speaker 1: still healing people. Amen. Amen, indeed, and we still have
- 6:26Speaker 1: eight minutes. I want to go to the verse of
- 6:28Speaker 1: the day as well. On the Bible. I'm highly encouraged
- 6:30Speaker 1: to download it. It is Isaiah chapter forty, verse thirty one states,
- 6:35Speaker 1: and let me get into it. But people who wait
- 6:38Speaker 1: for the Lord to help them will receive new strength.
- 6:42Speaker 1: They will rise up high as if they have the
- 6:44Speaker 1: wings of eagles. They will run and they will not
- 6:49Speaker 1: become tired. They will walk and they will not become weak. Now,
- 6:54Speaker 1: when it talks about waiting, it's getting you know that
- 6:59Speaker 1: very well needed rest, that intimate time where your body
- 7:05Speaker 1: is not only sleeping with your mind and everything else
- 7:10Speaker 1: and being able to reset and be able to eat.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I mean, we can go down the list eating properly,
- 7:18Speaker 1: but either way, just keeping your temple right as self
- 7:24Speaker 1: care is the best care God's going to do the rest. Amen,
