  quiet in Eagles Land. And on Sunday afternoon, the Eagles

  in general manager Howie Roseman.

  Speaker 1: They pulled the trigger acquiring wide receiver John Metchie the

  third from the Houston Texans. And the compensation is the
• 0:35
  Eagles received wide receiver John Metchi the third and a
• 0:38
  sixth round pick and the Texans receive.

  Speaker 2: Tight end Harrison Bryant and a fifth round pick.

  Speaker 1: But what's interesting is that Mechi the third now adds
• 0:49
  to a very deep wide receiver room and really there's
• 0:53
  a logjam of players.

  Speaker 2: You can make a case for making the.

  Speaker 1: Eagles fifty three man roster behind AJ Brown, DeVante Smith

  and Johan Dotson. Their second year wide receiver Johnny Wilson,

  who's really come on as of late, using his size
• 1:07
  to his advantage. He's a player of the Eagles like
• 1:10
  he offers blocking upside. I don't believe that this impacts
• 1:13
  him in any way. There's also another second year wide receiver,
• 1:17
  Nanayah Smith, who has punt return upside. Not to mention
• 1:21
  Terris Marshall junior, who's a veteran and he's had some
• 1:24
  bright moments in training camp. There's Darius Cooper, the emerging
• 1:28
  rookie wide receiver who's sort of really taken his opportunity
• 1:32
  and run with it this summer, and he has had
• 1:35
  some really good moments. The Eagles are get out giving
• 1:37
  him special teams opportunities and they seem to like what
• 1:40
  they've seen there. So it's a really crowded receiving corps
• 1:45
  and it's difficult to depict where Mechi the third is
• 1:49
  going to fit in. And look, Howie Roseman has proven
• 1:53
  time and time again that he will leave no stone
• 1:55
  unturned if it means adding a player at a position
• 2:00
  where he believes it can be upgraded for the betterment
• 2:03
  of the franchise, and this move is no exception. So
• 2:07
  Matchi the third last season caught twenty four or thirty
• 2:11
  seven targets for two hundred and fifty four yards in
• 2:14
  a touchdown. He's an ascending player in many ways, and
• 2:17
  I think in Philadelphia, when he doesn't necessarily have to
• 2:19
  be a prominent option, he should be able to find
• 2:23
  a role and be able to make an impact sparingly,
• 2:27
  I would say, because I don't believe that he's going
• 2:29
  to cut into Johan Dotson snaps in any way. Johan
• 2:32
  Dotson has had a really good summer for the Philadelphia Eagles.

  He's established a chemistry with Jaywen Hurts. Jayleen and Johan
• 2:38
  have talked countless times about that this summer. But Metchi
• 2:42
  adds an intriguing dimension, and for me, I can't help
• 2:46
  but wonder if he's going to sort of jockey for
• 2:49
  position for that fourth wide receiver spot and move Johnny
• 2:52
  Wilson down a place in the pecking order. The player
• 2:56
  that I think is most impacted by this addition would
• 3:00
  be well players I would say a Nias Smith and
• 3:04
  Darius Cooper. But for Darius Cooper, I believe that he
• 3:08
  gives you a little bit more in terms of versatility.
• 3:10
  Speaker 2: He can play inside, he can play outside. He's been
• 3:13
  given opportunities as a kick returner.
• 3:15
  Speaker 1: He's sort of moonlighted as a gunner on special teams.

  So I think he can maybe give you more on
• 3:22
  game day than maybe Ania Smith, who's predominantly a slot player,
• 3:26
  and he can return punts. But the Eagles have players
• 3:29
  who can do that, including potentially, I mean Darius Cooper
• 3:35
  might he might want to try him there, but Ania
• 3:38
  Smith has been their primary guy that they've turned to
• 3:40
  in addition to Avery Williams. But he also happens to
• 3:43
  be playing the same position. So there's a crowded house
• 3:46
  there of sorts at wide receiver, and it's really difficult
• 3:49
  right now to forecast who fills what role who may
• 3:52
  be on the outs. But I think the players who
• 3:54
  are most impacted here are Anyas Smith and Darius Cooper. Well,
• 4:01
  what does this mean for Harrison Bryant. Well, to be
• 4:03
  honest with you, I did not have Harrison Brant on
• 4:05
  my fifty three spoiler alert. I don't think he did
• 4:10
  enough this summer to really warrant a roster spot. He
• 4:13
  doesn't really help you on special teams. He played in
• 4:15
  five snaps in the second preseason game, and he really
• 4:19
  hasn't been better than Kylon Granson or EJ. Jenkins in
• 4:23
  my opinion, certainly Grantson, but I think EJ. Jenkins gives
• 4:26
  you a lot more in terms of special teams value
• 4:29
  and just developmental upside. So Harrison Bryant, really it's a
• 4:34
  player that the Texans are getting and they certainly needed
• 4:36
  a tight end. Brevin Jordan tore his aco and they're
• 4:39
  really light in that area, and he wasn't going to
• 4:41
  make the Eagles roster anyway in all likelihood, I should
• 4:45
  say so.
• 4:46
  Speaker 2: I think that this is a win win for both teams.

  Speaker 1: And the crazy thing about it is when you go
• 4:53
  back to that trade back in March when the Eagles
• 4:56
  sent CJ. Gardner Johnson to the Texans, it's it's a
• 5:02
  case where both teams get their you know, get their
• 5:07
  respective picks back. So essentially the Eagles traded CJ. Gardner
• 5:11
  Johnson for Kenyon Green and John Metchi. I should say
• 5:16
  they traded CJ. Gardner, Johnson and Harrison Bryant for Kenyon
• 5:20
  Green and John Metchie.
• 5:22
  Speaker 2: So we'll have to see how this pans out.

  Speaker 1: Obviously, Kenyon Green wasn't performing well before he got injured,
• 5:27
  and he's week to week right now, so his summer
• 5:30
  is all bit over. But I think Metchi has a
• 5:33
  chance to really help this receiving corps and add some
• 5:36
  more depth and maybe give them some optionality. Now he
• 5:40
  does not return kicks or punts, at least not to
• 5:42
  the stage of his NFL career, and he doesn't play
• 5:44
  special teams, so he's here to add some competition and
• 5:48
  add some more depth to the receiving corps.

  Speaker 2: Right now, I like the trade. I'm a little confused.

  Speaker 1: As to how the Eagles are going to be able
• 5:57
  to swing this because there's a lot of players and
• 5:59
  I just outlined many of them who are worthy of
• 6:02
  a roster spot. But I think the players most impacted
• 6:05
  obviously Avery Williams.

  Speaker 2: Then you have an Isa Smith and Darius Cooper.

  Speaker 1: Terris Marshall has had a nice summer as well, and

  he seems to be on the outside looking in. There
• 6:15
  is now an influx of talent here and I'm curious

  to see how this transpires over the next week or so.

  I look forward to talking to John Metchi when he
• 6:24
  gets to Philadelphia and has his media availability. But the

  Eagles are going to have some really tough decisions to
• 6:30
  make here over the next week or so, and this
• 6:32
  is going to be a massive week for some of
• 6:35
  those players fighting for that sixth potentially receiver spot, because
• 6:41
  I think right now you have your five with Aj Brown,
• 6:43
  Devonte Smith, Johan Dotson, Johnny Wilson, and John Metchi.

  Speaker 2: Well they keep six, We're gonna have to wait and

  find out.

  Speaker 1: The Eagles have players who are going to do everything

  they can this week in their final job audition to
• 6:58
  really try and put their stamp on that six receiver role,

  and I can't wait to see how it plays out.

  game leading up to the regular season, and I understand

  that the third week of the preseason a lot of

  folks may check out on that, But this is another

  reason why you should be paying attention because they are

  going to be some really tough decisions coming down the pike,

  and it really starts tomorrow when the Eagles return to

  training camp. There are three training camp practices coming up

  this week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, there's the game on Friday,

  and then the Eagles and the NFL they go dark
• 7:40
  as the decision making and evaluation process really ramps up
• 7:44
  and those difficult decisions that I've alluded to have to
• 7:47
  come to fruition. But I didn't want to leave you
• 7:50
  guys without my reaction, so here's just a very instant
• 7:54
  analysis and some notes that I had on this trade.
