- 0:08Jamire Gibbs is not practicing! The Lions' best
- 0:11offensive weapon is sitting while the money talks
- 0:13continue. He's not alone. This is The Rand Report.
- 0:17I'm Jim Rand. The soft stories are already forming.
- 0:22First, the running back hold ins. Gibbs wants
- 0:24a new deal. Bijan Robinson has been in the same
- 0:27conversation. Other backs across the league are
- 0:30watching. The league still acts surprised when
- 0:32productive running backs decide the current number
- 0:34isn't enough. They get used up, they get replaced,
- 0:38and then the front office acts shocked when the
- 0:40player finally says the quiet part out loud.
- 0:43Meanwhile, the Saints just paid Chris Olave,
- 0:45four years serious guaranteed money. He showed
- 0:49up, he waited, and New Orleans wrote the check.
- 0:51That's the difference. One side is still negotiating
- 0:54with the calendar. The other side decided the
- 0:57player who produces is worth the number. Most
- 0:59organizations talk about valuing their guys.
- 1:02Very few actually do it when the leverage is
- 1:05real. Second, the early camp pressure tests that
- 1:09actually matter. In Kansas City, a fifth round
- 1:12rookie named Cyrus Allen is turning heads. Nobody
- 1:14expected him to be a big part of the offense
- 1:17this soon. He's making it hard to ignore. In
- 1:21Philadelphia, wide receiver Wix is earning Jalen
- 1:23Hertz's trust and looking like a real WR2 option.
- 1:27Tua is back after the back issue and saying he
- 1:30feels great. On the other side of the ledger,
- 1:33Micah Parsons is still months away in Green Bay.
- 1:36Multiple teams already have longer PUP lists
- 1:39than they wanted. This is the part of camp where
- 1:42the highlight clips get loud and the real depth
- 1:44chart starts rewriting itself. Hope is still
- 1:47high, reality is already taking notes. Third,
- 1:51Terry Rosear and the soft narrative machine.
- 1:53He's under federal investigation for criminal
- 1:56counts. Today he released text messages. He says
- 1:59clear him. The soft takes are already sliding
- 2:02into place. He's just trying to clear his name.
- 2:05This could exonerate him. Maybe, or maybe the
- 2:07investigation still has more to say. Accountability
- 2:11doesn't disappear because someone drops a carefully
- 2:13selected text thread. The tape and the process
- 2:16still matter more than the story someone wants
- 2:18told. First, the bottom line. Running backs are
- 2:21holding in because the system still undervalues
- 2:24them until it doesn't. Camp is already sorting
- 2:26the players who separate from the ones who just
- 2:29generate volume. And the rosier situation is
- 2:32another reminder that soft language always arrives
- 2:35faster than hard facts. Watch who actually gets
- 2:38paid. Watch who actually holds up under the first
- 2:41two weeks of real work. Ignore the narratives
- 2:44that don't match the tape. This has been The
- 2:46Rand Report. I'm Jim Rand. No soft takes. See
- 2:49you next time. Looking for more great storytelling?
