Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Michael Johnson jr. Here with head coach, Jason candle after
- 0:03Speaker 1: the 48 to 20 win over Southern miss coach. Fair
- 0:06Speaker 1: to say, uh, Caleb Osborne was locked in for a
- 0:07Speaker 1: majority of that game. How would you assess your quarterback's performance? Yeah.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I mean, I think we got off to a great
- 0:12Speaker 2: start in all three phases and when the quarterback's able
- 0:14Speaker 2: to play efficiently, that, that helps the engine for the
- 0:17Speaker 2: entire unit. So, um, Yeah, I mean, got good special
- 0:20Speaker 2: teams plays early. Our kicker stepped up, made some strong kicks,
- 0:23Speaker 2: punted the ball well. Thought we tackled better on defense. And,
- 0:27Speaker 2: you know, offensively, we got into a little bit better
- 0:29Speaker 2: rhythm and more balance with being able to run a
- 0:31Speaker 2: little bit. And then, you know, that running game aids
- 0:34Speaker 2: that passing game.
- 0:35Speaker 1: You mentioned that running game, you know, obviously well over
- 0:39Speaker 1: 120 yards, more than last week. How were you impressed
- 0:42Speaker 1: with your guys? And that was kind of a committee,
- 0:44Speaker 1: different running back stepping up throughout the game.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yeah, better job on more continuity on the O-line, and
- 0:48Speaker 2: the more that thing goes, the more that's going to
- 0:50Speaker 2: show up. You know, so I think we just got
- 0:53Speaker 2: to continue to get at bats. We got to continue to,
- 0:56Speaker 2: you know, live with some of the mistakes that some
- 0:57Speaker 2: of our young players make, as frustrating as they may be.
- 1:00Speaker 2: You know, there's some young dudes out there playing, so
- 1:02Speaker 2: we got to try to keep coaching them. We got
- 1:05Speaker 2: to keep getting them in a groove and, you know,
- 1:07Speaker 2: try to minimize those mistakes.
- 1:08Speaker 1: How about Hayden Pegg? Obviously, great story as a walk-on.
- 1:11Speaker 1: He's tied for the tops of the team with seven
- 1:13Speaker 1: solo tackles here tonight. What did you make of his performance?
- 1:15Speaker 2: Well, he makes an impact in the kicking game as well. So,
- 1:18Speaker 2: you know, that's a key thing. So all the guys
- 1:20Speaker 2: in that big skill group, I mean, we ask a
- 1:22Speaker 2: lot of those 220 to 245-pound bodies. And, you know,
- 1:26Speaker 2: he's brought great energy, practices with great competitive spirit. You know,
- 1:29Speaker 2: he's a good, fun guy to be around at practice because,
- 1:31Speaker 2: you know, he brings it every day. And it's good
- 1:33Speaker 2: to see guys like that being rewarded.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Lastly, Coach, quickly, what was your message to the team
- 1:37Speaker 1: postgame after the win?
- 1:39Speaker 2: Well, I think that, you know, we know we have
- 1:41Speaker 2: a dogfight next week. We've got a tremendous opponent and
- 1:45Speaker 2: another road trip. So, you know, we've got to handle
- 1:47Speaker 2: that trip like we handled this one. It always helps
- 1:49Speaker 2: to get off to a great start, especially on the road. And,
- 1:52Speaker 2: you know, if we don't, we've got to handle some
- 1:54Speaker 2: adversities when it shows up. Miami's a great team, and
- 1:56Speaker 2: we've got to celebrate this one and get home tonight,
- 1:59Speaker 2: get back on the practice field, and get ready to
- 2:01Speaker 2: go for Miami.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Thanks for the time. Congrats on the win. Appreciate it.
