Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Amharic with Fexingo? Luna: Ready! Last time we did restaurant and hotel. What's today's topic? Lucas: We're going to learn two more important places: school and church. Luna: Oh, perfect. I bet those come up a lot in conversation. Lucas: Absolutely. So the word for school is ትምህርት ቤት. Luna: ትምህርት ቤት. Lucas: Good. And church is ቤተ ክርስቲያን. Luna: ቤተ ክርስቲያን. That's a long one. Lucas: It is. Let's break it down: ቤተ and ክርስቲያን. Together, ቤተ ክርስቲያን. Luna: ቤተ ክርስቲያን. Okay, I think I've got it. Lucas: Now, how do we ask where the school is? Lucas: Exactly. And for church: ቤተ ክርስቲያኑ የት ነው? That sounds similar. Lucas: It does. The ending changes slightly. Now, let's say 'I go to school': ወደ ትምህርት ቤት እሄዳለሁ. Luna: ወደ ትምህርት ቤት እሄዳለሁ. Lucas: And 'I go to church': ወደ ቤተ ክርስቲያን እሄዳለሁ. Luna: ወደ ቤተ ክርስቲያን እሄዳለሁ. Lucas: You're a natural. Let's practice a little dialogue. Imagine I ask you: ትምህርት ቤቱ የት ነው? Luna: Hmm. I could say: እዚህ ነው? Or maybe I don't know. Lucas: Right, if you don't know, you can say አላውቅም. But let's keep it simple. So, where do you go on weekdays? Lucas: And on Sundays? Lucas: Beautiful. You know, this podcast is possible because of listeners like you. Luna: Yeah, it's amazing that we can keep making these episodes ad-free. Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you with Amharic, a few listeners chip in at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: That's what keeps the show going. We really appreciate it. Lucas: Okay, back to practice. Let me ask you: ቤተ ክርስቲያኑ የት ነው? Luna: ቤተ ክርስቲያኑ... እዚያ ነው? Over there? Lucas: Exactly. እዚያ ነው means 'it's over there'. Good job. Luna: So today we learned ትምህርት ቤት and ቤተ ክርስቲያን. Lucas: And how to ask where they are and say you go there. Practice these phrases until we meet again. Luna: See you next time on Learn Amharic with Fexingo!
