- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and with me is Luna. Luna: Hey everyone. Last time we talked about sunny and windy weather, and I finally remembered how to say ፀሐያማ ነው without mixing it up. Lucas: You did great with that. Today, let's dive into something you'll definitely use on a trip to the market or a bakery. Luna: Ooh, I'm ready. What are we learning? Lucas: Today's topic is food staples: bread and cheese. In Amharic, bread is ዳቦ. Luna: ዳቦ. That sounds like something you'd find at a cozy bakery. Lucas: Exactly. And cheese is አይብ. Luna: አይብ. Like the kind you'd put on a sandwich or in a stew. Lucas: Right. So if you're at a market and you want to buy some bread, you'd say ዳቦ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: ዳቦ እፈልጋለሁ. That means 'I want bread'. Lucas: Perfect. And for cheese, you'd say አይብ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: አይብ እፈልጋለሁ. I want cheese. That's easy to remember. Lucas: Now let's make it a little more colorful. If the bread is fresh, you say The bread is fresh. That's a handy phrase. Lucas: And if the cheese is good, you say The cheese is good. I like that. Lucas: Let's practice all of them. First, just the words: ዳቦ, አይብ. Luna: ዳቦ, አይብ. Lucas: Now the phrases: ዳቦ እፈልጋለሁ, አይብ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: ዳቦ እፈልጋለሁ, አይብ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Great. That rolls off the tongue. Lucas: Now imagine you're at a little market stall. You see fresh bread and cheese. You say ዳቦ እፈልጋለሁ, and the seller hands you a warm loaf. Then you point to the cheese and say አይብ እፈልጋለሁ. The seller gives you a slice, and you say Luna: That's such a nice little scene. I can almost smell the fresh bread. Lucas: And you know, this kind of practical vocabulary is why Fexingo exists. If Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Amharic, you might appreciate that we keep the show completely ad-free. Luna: Yeah, that's something I love. No interruptions, just the language. Lucas: So if you want to support that choice, you can find us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Every little bit helps keep the episodes coming. But for now, let's get back to bread and cheese. Lucas: Absolutely. So we have ዳቦ and አይብ. Let's do a quick review. What's bread? Luna: ዳቦ. Lucas: And cheese? Luna: አይብ. Lucas: How do you say 'I want bread'? Luna: ዳቦ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: And 'I want cheese'? Luna: አይብ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: How about 'the bread is fresh'? Lucas: And 'the cheese is good'? Lucas: You nailed it. I'm so proud of you. Luna: Thanks. This was a tasty topic. I'm hungry now. Lucas: Then go get some ዳቦ and አይብ. Practice these phrases until we meet again. Luna: See you next time on Learn Amharic with Fexingo. Bye for now.
