- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus, powered by Seahawks dot Com. Now here's your host,
- 0:09Speaker 1: Nasa Chobee. Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk. The Seahawks,
- 0:14Speaker 1: fresh off the bye week, traveling across the country, take
- 0:16Speaker 1: on the Washington Commanders. Goodness, can you get that out
- 0:19Speaker 1: of Washington Commanders in primetime on Sunday night? Football is
- 0:23Speaker 1: gonna be a big matchup, bump But before you get
- 0:25Speaker 1: into it, gotta hit you some injury updates, a little split,
- 0:29Speaker 1: kind of mixed results, big back, mixed bag here. Mike
- 0:31Speaker 1: m'donald said, Julian Love had a bit of a setback
- 0:33Speaker 1: last week with his hamstring injury, so his game status
- 0:36Speaker 1: is uncertain, but looking like he's not gonna be able
- 0:38Speaker 1: to be out there. Devin Witherspoon and Derek Haldough we're
- 0:41Speaker 1: back at practice yesterday. Drake Young was also out of practice.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Ir was a possibility for Julian Love and Drek Young
- 0:47Speaker 1: obviously hoping that's not the case. We don't want them
- 0:49Speaker 1: to miss four games. But the other good thing is
- 0:52Speaker 1: Robbie Oots will be back return to practice this week,
- 0:54Speaker 1: so hopefully we can see him out there on something.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Oots, come on, Oots, No, So.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I mean for me, Bump, I love Oots coming back
- 1:01Speaker 1: with this run game and then Spoon just that infectious
- 1:03Speaker 1: energy how he plays the game of football. Love to
- 1:05Speaker 1: see back. You want Julian Love out there. But I
- 1:08Speaker 1: feel good about where this team's at given the amount
- 1:10Speaker 1: of reps that guys like Tyle Katta, Yeah, and other
- 1:12Speaker 1: people in second year have had so far.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Yeah, Oots, we're trying to figure out what's gonna unlock
- 1:16Speaker 3: this run game. Obviously it's gonna be played by the
- 1:18Speaker 3: Big five of front chemistry with the running backs. But Oots, man,
- 1:22Speaker 3: he has the block of the year so far.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Well week two in Pittsburghurgh got both knocked out two linebackers.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So he brings a different dynamic to this run game.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Can't wait to see him.
- 1:30Speaker 1: No, it should be It should be fun. It's gonna
- 1:32Speaker 1: be a huge matchup. Jaydon Daniels looks like he's gonna play.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Terry McLaurin is out, so it'll be interesting. And it's
- 1:39Speaker 1: like the Seahawks east Man, you got Bobby Wagner, Nick Bulore,
- 1:43Speaker 1: you got Scott Fitter in the front office. You got Tyler,
- 1:45Speaker 1: You got so many different guys that used to wear
- 1:47Speaker 1: this uniform work in this building, so should be fun
- 1:49Speaker 1: to link up with some old friends. But let's get
- 1:51Speaker 1: into those Commanders. What's on tap? What's on tap? They
- 1:56Speaker 1: are three in five, second place the NFC East. They
- 1:58Speaker 1: are wins over the Giants twenty one to six, win
- 2:02Speaker 1: over the Raiders forty one to twenty four, and a
- 2:05Speaker 1: win over the Chargers twenty seven to ten. But they
- 2:07Speaker 1: have losses to the Packers, Falcons, Bears, Cowboys, and Chiefs
- 2:11Speaker 1: on a three game losing streak, bump. And what'd you
- 2:15Speaker 1: see from this last week against the kanc Chiefs on
- 2:17Speaker 1: Monday night.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Yeah, the Chiefs twenty eight to seven. They took that
- 2:20Speaker 3: out and it was a weird start to the ball games.
- 2:22Speaker 3: You got three interceptions, you got two turnovers on downs
- 2:24Speaker 3: in the first five possessions of the game.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Nobody wonted the football apparently.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Then both teams exchanged touchdowns, making the score seven to
- 2:31Speaker 3: seven and halftime. From then it was all the Chiefs,
- 2:33Speaker 3: though Pat Mahomes in the game reminded people who they are.
- 2:36Speaker 3: They outscored the Commanders twenty one to zero in the
- 2:39Speaker 3: second half in route to a twenty eight to seven score.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Pat Mahomes was twenty five to thirty four two ninety
- 2:44Speaker 3: nine and three touchdowns and two interceptions.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Travis Kelcey had one of his better games of the season.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Six receptions for ninety nine yards, one touchdown, and that
- 2:52Speaker 3: touchdown Tid Priest Holmes for the Chiefs career record for
- 2:55Speaker 3: eighty three of them things.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Yeah, no, Travis, he's up there, especially for a tight
- 2:59Speaker 1: end in that offense. He's been killing the game over there.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Rashi Rice nine receptions, ninety three yards and a touchdowns.
- 3:04Speaker 1: It was first game back after the suspension, and obviously
- 3:08Speaker 1: the Commanders when you look at them, their offense doesn't
- 3:10Speaker 1: really change when Jalen is not in the game in
- 3:12Speaker 1: terms of how it's called. Marcus Mariota, former Heisman Trophy winner,
- 3:15Speaker 1: he was in the game, but he's also not Jane Daniels, right,
- 3:17Speaker 1: so he was out there. He did okay, you know
- 3:19Speaker 1: in mop up duty. Twenty one to thirty two, thirteen,
- 3:22Speaker 1: one touchdown, two interceptions, and then scary Terry Mayde's trying
- 3:26Speaker 1: for return had a hell of a catch in the
- 3:27Speaker 1: back corner of that end zone, dragging those feet Unfortunately
- 3:30Speaker 1: for him, he reaggravated that quad. He did have three
- 3:32Speaker 1: receptions for fifty four yards in Washington's only touchdown, but
- 3:36Speaker 1: he's out this week again. Big up, Scary Terry. Get healthy.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But I can't say I'm sad that we won't see
- 3:42Speaker 1: you in uniform on Sunday night.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Terry is the real deal.
- 3:44Speaker 3: So they're going to rely on this man at Deebo Samuel,
- 3:47Speaker 3: He's coming back from a bruised hill. He had just
- 3:49Speaker 3: three receptions for eleven yards, and the og our guy
- 3:53Speaker 3: Bobby Wagner.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Had ten tackles one interception.
- 3:55Speaker 3: In the past defended, the Chiefs Now have won nine
- 3:57Speaker 3: straight games against the Commanders of their last twelve. Last
- 4:01Speaker 3: loss was September nineteen eighty three. Neither of us wore round.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yeah that was a while ago. Damn Yeah, chiefs Now
- 4:09Speaker 1: finding the rhythm. They started off zero to two, one,
- 4:11Speaker 1: five of six. They're like, they're like cockerges man, you
- 4:13Speaker 1: can't kill them. They're just they're always there doing their thing.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And we'll look at this head to head matchup. Bump
- 4:17Speaker 1: these two teams on paper, you know, offensively, Seahawks are
- 4:20Speaker 1: eleventh total offense, twenty first in rush offense, eighth and
- 4:23Speaker 1: pass offense tied for fifth in points per game. You
- 4:26Speaker 1: look at the Commanders their sixteenth in offense, three hundred
- 4:29Speaker 1: and thirty four yards per game, tied for third in
- 4:31Speaker 1: rush offense, twenty fourth in pass offense, and seventeenth in
- 4:35Speaker 1: points per game. I mean, just looking at especially, I
- 4:37Speaker 1: mean Jayden will be back, so it should be a
- 4:39Speaker 1: little closer. But I definitely would give the Seahawks the
- 4:42Speaker 1: advantage in the matchup. They're offensively yep.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Defensively, the Hawks are tenth overall, first against the run,
- 4:47Speaker 3: twenty thirty is the pass, and seventh when it comes
- 4:49Speaker 3: to points allowed. On the other side, the Commanders are
- 4:51Speaker 3: twenty seventh overall, twenty second against the run, twenty six
- 4:54Speaker 3: against the pass, and twenty first when it comes to
- 4:56Speaker 3: points allowed, allowing twenty four point eight eight The Hawk
- 5:01Speaker 3: gay eight interceptions. The Commanders have four interceptions minus four
- 5:05Speaker 3: for the Hawks and turnover differential minus five for the
- 5:07Speaker 3: Commanders in that same category.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah. No, So these teams do some things average some
- 5:12Speaker 1: teams well, I mean obviously jumping out Seahawks number one
- 5:15Speaker 1: rush defense. Love that seventy five yards they're running the
- 5:17Speaker 1: ball really well. Obviously something has to give there in
- 5:20Speaker 1: that matchup, so should be interesting when you look at
- 5:22Speaker 1: these two on paper. Now they play in different obviously
- 5:25Speaker 1: differently different divisions or whatever, so they haven't played a
- 5:28Speaker 1: ton over the history, but they have played a decent amounts,
- 5:31Speaker 1: So we'll look at the history.
- 5:32Speaker 2: No, your History.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Commanders lead the all time series thirteen to ten, and
- 5:37Speaker 1: they're seven and thirteen in the regular season, but the
- 5:39Speaker 1: Seahawks do have the edge three and zero in the postseason.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The Seahawks have won two to the last three in
- 5:44Speaker 1: this matchup, with the last game taking place at Lewinfield
- 5:46Speaker 1: in November of twenty twenty three back and forth battle
- 5:49Speaker 1: between the two teams. Seahawks won in that twenty nine
- 5:51Speaker 1: to twenty six. Gino Smith had himself a hell of
- 5:53Speaker 1: a day that day, going thirty one to forty seven
- 5:55Speaker 1: three sixty nine, two touchdowns, no interceptions. He led two
- 5:59Speaker 1: clutch drives in the four quarter, including a game winning
- 6:01Speaker 1: seven play fifty yard drive setting up at Jason Myers
- 6:03Speaker 1: forty three yard game winning field goal. The Seahawks defense
- 6:07Speaker 1: allowed a thirty five yard touchdown pass with fifty two
- 6:09Speaker 1: seconds left. Gino Smith very good at late game situations
- 6:13Speaker 1: led them down there to win that game. Ken Walker
- 6:15Speaker 1: had one hundred and twenty nine total yards, including a
- 6:17Speaker 1: sixty four yard touchdown reception. Thought Lockett had one of
- 6:20Speaker 1: his better games eight receptions ninety two yards in a touchdown,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and Bobby Wagner led the defense with ten tackles and
- 6:26Speaker 1: two passes defended. Crazy thing about this game, Momp. The
- 6:30Speaker 1: quarterback on the other side was Sam Hollen. Samuel and Bump.
- 6:33Speaker 1: This has to be his best game if his NFL.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah for sure.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Twenty nine to forty four, three twelve, three touchdowns and
- 6:39Speaker 1: no interceptions carved us up a lot. Ended up being
- 6:41Speaker 1: in Seattle the following year in twenty four. Now he
- 6:44Speaker 1: is a believe in Philly as a backup. So yeah,
- 6:46Speaker 1: definitely a crazy game and bump for me. I just
- 6:49Speaker 1: love how different this team is from then to now
- 6:53Speaker 1: because this Seahawks defense would not be given up three
- 6:57Speaker 1: hundred and twelve yards three touchdowns to Samow.
- 6:59Speaker 3: I'll tell you that I put money down and they
- 7:00Speaker 3: wouldn't do that. I really would so improve defense on
- 7:04Speaker 3: that day, though, Brian Robinson Junior led all receivers with
- 7:08Speaker 3: one hundred nineteen yards and six receptions in one touchdown. Listen,
- 7:12Speaker 3: this game feels like it's not like a must win game, right.
- 7:16Speaker 3: All all games in NFL are important, right, but this
- 7:18Speaker 3: is a must win game. But this is like a
- 7:20Speaker 3: big one, a statement game. Sunday night football, traveling to
- 7:23Speaker 3: the East against a team that's a little beat up,
- 7:25Speaker 3: you still got Jaden Daniels rolling into town. I'm excited
- 7:28Speaker 3: for this one. But I probably say that every week though,
- 7:30Speaker 3: But I'm excited.
- 7:31Speaker 1: But for me again, obviously we're older now, so the
- 7:33Speaker 1: primetime and games you should really be exciting. I wish
- 7:35Speaker 1: it was earlier. You know that o'clock would be great,
- 7:38Speaker 1: but no, it's in front of the nation and it
- 7:39Speaker 1: should be interesting what the Seahawks can do, see replicate
- 7:42Speaker 1: their last game against them and put on a show
- 7:44Speaker 1: in front of the national audience. But well, football attension elsewhere.
- 7:47Speaker 1: What's the word? And the Seahawks or the NFC West
- 7:54Speaker 1: champs again, what's the word in the West? On Hawk talk?
- 8:00Speaker 3: The standards have shuffle just a little bit in the
- 8:02Speaker 3: NFC West. You got the Hawks on top now five
- 8:05Speaker 3: and two, Rams behind them five and two, San Franz
- 8:08Speaker 3: at five and three and The Cardinals are two and five.
- 8:10Speaker 3: The Seahawks are now in first place at NFC West
- 8:13Speaker 3: all by themselves. If the playoffs started today, the Seahawks
- 8:15Speaker 3: w have the tiebreaker over the Rounds based on win
- 8:17Speaker 3: percentage in divisional games, but they haven't played yet, so
- 8:21Speaker 3: you know, look at the way you want to. It
- 8:23Speaker 3: was a calm week in the division. The Seahawks, Cardinals,
- 8:25Speaker 3: end Rams are on a buy. The only game this
- 8:28Speaker 3: week was the forty nine ers taking on the Texans.
- 8:31Speaker 2: What did you see in that one?
- 8:33Speaker 1: Well, I saw a team that didn't look like the
- 8:35Speaker 1: team the Seahawks beat the previous Monday Night. Yeah, I
- 8:37Speaker 1: mean the Texans. They came in. We knew they had
- 8:40Speaker 1: a good defense. We got to see that on display.
- 8:41Speaker 1: But what the Seahawks were able to do to them
- 8:43Speaker 1: looks like a completely different team because on the short
- 8:46Speaker 1: week they were banged up. The Niners didn't have it.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Though Texans didn't control from the jump, they led by
- 8:50Speaker 1: two scores for majority of the game.
- 8:52Speaker 2: C J.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Stroud through for season high three hundred and eighteen yards
- 8:55Speaker 1: two touchdowns. Stroud did all that without their top receiver,
- 8:58Speaker 1: Nico Collins. He suffered a concussion against Seahawks and Mac Jones.
- 9:02Speaker 1: You know, he's played well and plays a rock party.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I think we got to see a little bit more
- 9:06Speaker 1: of kind of not who he is, but just a
- 9:08Speaker 1: little bit more down to earth. Terms of game, he
- 9:10Speaker 1: had nineteen of thirty two to one to ninety three,
- 9:12Speaker 1: two touchdowns, one interception. The Niners were out of it
- 9:15Speaker 1: from the jump. They were down sixteen zero before they
- 9:18Speaker 1: even got a first down. So it to me, it
- 9:21Speaker 1: just it made the Seahawks win on Monday night feel
- 9:24Speaker 1: that much better because what they did to a healthy
- 9:26Speaker 1: Texans team versus what the Niners were able to do
- 9:29Speaker 1: against them. So I feel much better about the Seahawks
- 9:31Speaker 1: coming out of that.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and now, Christian McCaffrey was held to sixty eight
- 9:34Speaker 3: total yards coming off a game where I think back
- 9:36Speaker 3: to back weeks he had over one hundred total yards
- 9:38Speaker 3: from scrimmage, So that's a big up to that defense.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Killer had four receptions for forty three yards and the touchdowns,
- 9:43Speaker 3: and the Texans out gained the Niners four hundred and
- 9:45Speaker 3: seventy five yards of two to twenty three. They also
- 9:48Speaker 3: dominated time with possession forty one minutes to eighteen minutes.
- 9:52Speaker 3: The Niners traveled to the Metal Lands and take on
- 9:55Speaker 3: the Giants next week.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Alliance who just lost? Scataboom man, big up scataboom.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Yeah that was disgusting. Yeah, holy big ops. Yeah of respect.
- 10:01Speaker 1: That's Paul Moyer's guy, Arizona State, and you know it's bad.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And anytime on a football field when the opposing team
- 10:07Speaker 1: is like, yeah, yeah out here, Yeah, stuff to see.
- 10:10Speaker 1: But Jackson Dart's doing his thanks, So it'll be interesting
- 10:12Speaker 1: to see what the Niners could do there. Obviously hoping
- 10:15Speaker 1: for uh, you know, go Giants. Yep this week?
- 10:19Speaker 2: Are they blue or is that Michigan? That's Michigan.
- 10:21Speaker 1: That's Michigan. But the Giants are still blue. Yeah, well
- 10:23Speaker 1: I'll say go blue. Sure that works. Let's flip it
- 10:26Speaker 1: back to these commanders. Man up, Hey, who you got,
- 10:29Speaker 1: who you got? You know what time it is? Man up?
- 10:31Speaker 2: Man up, brother, man.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Up, man up. On Hawk Talk, we're looking at the
- 10:36Speaker 1: quarterbacks like we always do each and every week. Jade
- 10:38Speaker 1: Daniels marks Mariota versus Seahawks defense. Now when healthy. Jade
- 10:43Speaker 1: Daniels is an electric quarterback, one of the most electric
- 10:45Speaker 1: in the game today. In college, he was the only
- 10:47Speaker 1: player in FBS the past for twelve thousand yards in
- 10:50Speaker 1: rush for three thousand months. He had some okay years
- 10:53Speaker 1: at Arizona State. Not bad, No one thought what was Yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 1: it was. It was pretty brutal. The kids in their
- 11:00Speaker 1: on a state or doing dirty on social media, blah blah.
- 11:02Speaker 1: What does he do when he transfers lsu oh, I
- 11:04Speaker 1: don't know, win the Heisman Trophy consensus, all Americans, set
- 11:07Speaker 1: all kinds of records there and then he gets drafted
- 11:10Speaker 1: second overall by this Commanders team and him coming in
- 11:13Speaker 1: dan Quinn changed the culture in that building immediately. His
- 11:16Speaker 1: rookie season one to remember, Pro Bowl Offensive Rookie of
- 11:20Speaker 1: the Year. It helps the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game.
- 11:23Speaker 1: They won their first game since two thousand and five
- 11:25Speaker 1: and advanced their first championship since the Super Bowl in
- 11:28Speaker 1: nineteen ninety one. So it's definitely your to remember for
- 11:31Speaker 1: a franchise has been down bad for a long time.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Daniels twenty twenty four. He was thirty three thirty one
- 11:38Speaker 1: of four eighty three thousand, five hundred and sixty eight yards,
- 11:41Speaker 1: twenty five touchdowns, just nine interceptions. He also had eight
- 11:44Speaker 1: hundred and ninety one on the ground on hundred and
- 11:46Speaker 1: forty eight carry six touchdowns, so he's definitely a dual threat.
- 11:49Speaker 1: He was a team's leading rusher so far toward twenty
- 11:51Speaker 1: five hasn't been terrible, but it has not been as
- 11:54Speaker 1: kind to him. He sprained his knee in Week two
- 11:56Speaker 1: after being hitting ahead with the helmet or hitting the
- 11:58Speaker 1: knee with the helmet. That caused the miss two games.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Then he was injured against the Cowboys. It looked really bad.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Thankfully for him, it was just a hamstring, but made
- 12:06Speaker 1: him miss another game against Achieved. So he's missed three
- 12:09Speaker 1: games this year. The Commanders are one or two in
- 12:11Speaker 1: those games. He's practicing this week. Looks like he's gonna
- 12:14Speaker 1: play bump and he really changes the game for them.
- 12:16Speaker 1: If he's in there, he does change the game. Man.
- 12:19Speaker 2: He loves to scramble. His off time throws are on point.
- 12:21Speaker 3: He is missing a target in Terry McLaurin, but he
- 12:24Speaker 3: has the football in his hands every snap, and when
- 12:26Speaker 3: a guy like that has the football in his hands
- 12:28Speaker 3: every snap, he can be dangerous. They also got another
- 12:31Speaker 3: Heisman Trophy winner over there. That's what they do in DC, apparently,
- 12:35Speaker 3: Marcus mary Yoda eleven years, has.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Been in the league already wild that is nuts man.
- 12:41Speaker 3: He started seventy seven or ninety seven games he's played
- 12:43Speaker 3: in bounce back after leaving Tennessee. Only played in four
- 12:46Speaker 3: games of the season, starting three of them. Marcus Mariota
- 12:48Speaker 3: fifty six of eighty eight sixty three percent completion race,
- 12:51Speaker 3: six hundred and thirty nine yards, four touchdowns, four interceptions
- 12:54Speaker 3: in eighteen carries for one touchdown. And I watched him
- 12:57Speaker 3: a little bit on film and Marcus still got some wheels.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Man can still move a little bit. He ain't Jade
- 13:02Speaker 3: and Daniels, but he can still move a little bit.
- 13:04Speaker 1: No, and coach McDonald spoke about it this week when
- 13:06Speaker 1: preparing for this team. Their offense doesn't change when Daniels
- 13:09Speaker 1: is out there, just because of their similar play style
- 13:11Speaker 1: of the way they can make things happen with their legs.
- 13:13Speaker 1: So it'll be interesting. Like I said, Mariota, if he's
- 13:15Speaker 1: in the game, he can definitely compete and it's not
- 13:18Speaker 1: something to sleep on. So the Seahaws defense off the
- 13:20Speaker 1: work cut out there, breaking tenth overall in defense, twenty
- 13:23Speaker 1: third against the past. They're still trying to figure it
- 13:26Speaker 1: out after that Bucks game that really threw the average
- 13:28Speaker 1: for the entire season. But they are fourth in the
- 13:31Speaker 1: NFL eight interceptions, in seventh in scoring defense on just
- 13:34Speaker 1: nineteen point four points. So we'll see what they do
- 13:36Speaker 1: trying to contain Daniels out there.
- 13:38Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about our quarterbacks.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Sam Darnold, Right, he had a week off, but he's
- 13:43Speaker 3: still one of the best in the game when you
- 13:44Speaker 3: look at these numbers. A right, he was seventeen or
- 13:46Speaker 3: thirty one, two thirteen and one touchdown in one interception
- 13:49Speaker 3: against Houston last time we saw them. Wish he could
- 13:52Speaker 3: have a couple throws back, but that's the name of
- 13:54Speaker 3: the game. He'll be all right. But even after that break, Okay,
- 13:57Speaker 3: he's still among the league's best. He's a tenth when
- 13:59Speaker 3: it comes up pass the yards first when it comes
- 14:01Speaker 3: to yards per pass, atten first when it comes to
- 14:04Speaker 3: yards per completion, seventh when it comes to pass rating,
- 14:06Speaker 3: in tenth in the NFL when it comes to completion
- 14:08Speaker 3: percentage at sixty eight point two percent. He has seventeen
- 14:12Speaker 3: hundred yards, twelve touchdowns, four interceptions. He's playing against a
- 14:15Speaker 3: team that is a twenty seventh overall the Catags this
- 14:18Speaker 3: week in total defense, allowing three seventy two per game,
- 14:21Speaker 3: the twenty six against the pass, the twenty first against
- 14:24Speaker 3: when it comes to scoring, there's some opportunity here. And
- 14:28Speaker 3: this is the old team now, it's the oldest team
- 14:30Speaker 3: in football right now. Now it's kind of skewed because
- 14:32Speaker 3: you got a punter that's like thirty five. You got
- 14:35Speaker 3: Bobby who's in his thirties, Nick nick Vaughn over there too.
- 14:40Speaker 3: I mean they got some old heads. They got some
- 14:41Speaker 3: young ones too, but the old heads kind of throw
- 14:43Speaker 3: the numbers off a bit.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yeah, And honestly, I think this is where the Seahawks
- 14:46Speaker 1: win this football game. We know ho'll get there be
- 14:47Speaker 1: in defensively, but I think this is where the distance
- 14:50Speaker 1: and the scoreboard is going to be with the Seahawks offense.
- 14:52Speaker 1: How they're playing against a unit that's not playing a
- 14:54Speaker 1: really good football defensive for the Commander. So it'll be
- 14:57Speaker 1: interesting to watch that part of the game. Been talking
- 14:59Speaker 1: for when you're talking to Washington, you're talking about Terry McLaurin, Deebo,
- 15:02Speaker 1: Samuel zach Ertz. They have a ton of guys that
- 15:04Speaker 1: are great at catching the football, but of course, Scary Terry,
- 15:08Speaker 1: someone we could talk about for days. He's one of
- 15:10Speaker 1: the best receivers in Washington history already at this point,
- 15:13Speaker 1: he's top five and thousand yard seasons. It's a five
- 15:16Speaker 1: consecutive that's actually a club record. He's fifth all time
- 15:19Speaker 1: in receiving yards. Two time Pro Bowler, had a career
- 15:21Speaker 1: high thirteen touchdowns last season.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Bump.
- 15:23Speaker 1: But he will not be out there on the field
- 15:25Speaker 1: this week, so we flip our attention to Deebo Samuel.
- 15:28Speaker 1: We all know about Debo. He's caused the Seahawks a
- 15:31Speaker 1: headache for years and years at San Francisco, and he's
- 15:34Speaker 1: a true dual threat guy. Since twenty twenty one, Deebo
- 15:37Speaker 1: is top ten in the NFL in the following categories,
- 15:40Speaker 1: Wide receiver scrimmage, touchdowns, wide receiver touches, wide receiver scrimming
- 15:44Speaker 1: yards per game, wide receiver scrimmage yards yards after catch,
- 15:46Speaker 1: twenty plus twenty five yard plus receptions. Now, but we
- 15:50Speaker 1: talked about Debo a lot. He is a receiver when
- 15:54Speaker 1: you list him on flip card, but he's an athlete.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Like if you're recruiting Debo, he he would not have
- 16:01Speaker 1: a position just because how he's used. Now he's playing receiver,
- 16:04Speaker 1: he's gonna he's still dangerous when he gets the ball
- 16:07Speaker 1: in his hands. He's like a running back. So it'll
- 16:08Speaker 1: be interesting to see. He did most of his damage
- 16:10Speaker 1: obviously in San Francisco this year, Okay, thirty seven receptions,
- 16:14Speaker 1: three twenty six three touchdowns. Also got forty six yards
- 16:17Speaker 1: on nine carries in a touchdown quiet last week. We'll
- 16:20Speaker 1: see what happens with him this week.
- 16:21Speaker 2: He's got a.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Step up this week. I mean he's the number one
- 16:24Speaker 3: for sure. Terry's gone. He's the number one. So I
- 16:26Speaker 3: want to see how they use him and where they
- 16:29Speaker 3: move him around with him everywhere outside, inside, in the
- 16:31Speaker 3: slot backfield, they'll use him. But then you got the
- 16:34Speaker 3: og zach ertz Man. He's thirteen years, he's been in
- 16:38Speaker 3: the game, three time Pro Bowler. He's been climbing the
- 16:41Speaker 3: ranks of the NFL history, the six most receptions at
- 16:43Speaker 3: the Titans spot. He has the most receptions in a
- 16:46Speaker 3: single season for a tight end. He has seasons with
- 16:49Speaker 3: seventy plus receptions. He got six of those seasons with
- 16:51Speaker 3: seven hundred plus receiving yards. He's got seven of those.
- 16:54Speaker 3: He's he's a productive player. Last season he was a
- 16:58Speaker 3: team's second leading receiver behind McLane and of course he
- 17:00Speaker 3: has sixty six receptions for six fifty four and seven touchdowns.
- 17:03Speaker 3: So far this year he's the second leading receiving with
- 17:06Speaker 3: this team twenty seven receptions, two forty five and four touchdowns.
- 17:10Speaker 3: And they also got the young man Luke McCaffrey. All
- 17:12Speaker 3: they do is produce athletes. With that last game, and
- 17:15Speaker 3: big ups to the moms a lot, Dad gets a
- 17:17Speaker 3: lot of the love when it comes to athleticism. Moms
- 17:19Speaker 3: was a heck of a soccer player, I believe at
- 17:21Speaker 3: Stanford and was doing her things. So yeah, the McCaffrey
- 17:25Speaker 3: brothers Luke McCaffrey. This time he has eleven receptions for
- 17:28Speaker 3: two hundred and three yards and three touchdowns. We know
- 17:30Speaker 3: the Hawks not struggling against the past, but the numbers
- 17:33Speaker 3: will tell you that there's some improving needed there. They're
- 17:35Speaker 3: twenty third allowing two thirty per game. And Jay Love's
- 17:41Speaker 3: gonna be out, but Spoon's gonna be there. Let's see
- 17:43Speaker 3: how the backups do this week.
- 17:45Speaker 1: No, absolutely, and Happ's been on the field, just an
- 17:47Speaker 1: absolute game changer with his backs and energy. Obviously that
- 17:50Speaker 1: hasn't officially been reported yet. He's back to practice. We're
- 17:52Speaker 1: really hoping to get out there, and if he is
- 17:54Speaker 1: putting good vibes out there, big things will be happening.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Then let's look at the running back position, because we
- 17:59Speaker 1: mentioned their third in the league in rushing yards, and
- 18:01Speaker 1: then I'm going through their stacks and I go, that
- 18:03Speaker 1: doesn't really compete when you're kind of looking through all
- 18:05Speaker 1: the games, Well, why is that their quarterback position is
- 18:08Speaker 1: such a huge part of that run game. They've accounted
- 18:10Speaker 1: for thirty percent of the total rushing yards. They have
- 18:12Speaker 1: four different running backs and three ride receivers that have
- 18:14Speaker 1: carries this year, And obviously you have some injuries. So
- 18:17Speaker 1: it started Austin Ecklers or starting running backs start the season.
- 18:20Speaker 1: He blows out his achilles in week two, Chris Rodriguez
- 18:22Speaker 1: starts the next couple of games, and then you enter
- 18:24Speaker 1: Jacory prosky Merritt seventh round pick, probably not thought of
- 18:28Speaker 1: a lot this year, but he's their leading rusher, done
- 18:29Speaker 1: some good things. Breakout performance against the Chargers. He had
- 18:32Speaker 1: one hundred eleven yards on fourteen carries two touchdowns. On
- 18:35Speaker 1: the season, four hundred and two yards, eighty two carries,
- 18:38Speaker 1: four point nine per carry, and four touchdowns. So this
- 18:42Speaker 1: is a unit, you know, between Daniels if he's back,
- 18:45Speaker 1: plus them, that's the run game. You have to include
- 18:47Speaker 1: the quarterback in that when stopping the run game. So
- 18:49Speaker 1: Merrits look good, But it's gonna be about containing Daniels
- 18:52Speaker 1: and Merit together. For the Seahawks, who are the number
- 18:54Speaker 1: one rushing defense in the National Football League.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Yes, they are allowing just seventy five yards per game
- 19:00Speaker 3: defense against the run. And of course, how can we
- 19:01Speaker 3: not talk about these two Jackson Smith and jigbub and
- 19:04Speaker 3: Cooper Cup Jssen.
- 19:06Speaker 2: He shows week after week he's one of the best
- 19:09Speaker 2: in the game.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Against the Houston Texas last a couple weeks ago, eight receptions,
- 19:12Speaker 3: one twenty three in one touchdown. He also dunked the
- 19:15Speaker 3: ball upright, he got fine. Word on the street is
- 19:18Speaker 3: Gary Payton? Payton the fine for him? Yet the NFL
- 19:20Speaker 3: still using that image when it comes to promoting the game.
- 19:24Speaker 3: A little hypocritical there, but hey, that's not I'm not
- 19:26Speaker 3: here to judge. I'm not here to judge. He has
- 19:28Speaker 3: eight hundred nineteen yards and he's just one hundred and
- 19:31Speaker 3: seventy yards away from one thousand, which is nuts. He
- 19:34Speaker 3: needs one hundred yards to become the first play in
- 19:35Speaker 3: franchise history to record four consecutive one hundred yard receiving games.
- 19:40Speaker 3: This is second opportunity this year to do that, so
- 19:43Speaker 3: Jason is doing his thame. He needs one hundred yards
- 19:45Speaker 3: to tie Steve Largin for the most one hundred yard
- 19:47Speaker 3: receiving games in a single season in franchise.
- 19:49Speaker 2: History with six.
- 19:50Speaker 3: He needs four receevens to pass dk Metcalf for the
- 19:53Speaker 3: most receptions in a player's first three seasons in franchise
- 19:55Speaker 3: history with two seventeen.
- 19:57Speaker 2: And you don't want to miss this.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Ready to go, Jason's gonna put on the show and
- 20:03Speaker 3: back up everything he's been doing this year.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I mean, there's we've run out of words to describe
- 20:09Speaker 1: what he's doing. Everyone knows the threat he is. He's
- 20:11Speaker 1: the number one receiver in the league, but he still
- 20:13Speaker 1: gets behind secondaries each and every play. Cooper Cup, He's
- 20:16Speaker 1: doing his thing. You know, He's not killing it in
- 20:18Speaker 1: the stack in the same way. He's got thirty three
- 20:20Speaker 1: twenty four receptions at two or ninety three yards on
- 20:22Speaker 1: the season, but If there's anyone that could talk about
- 20:25Speaker 1: what he's been doing this year, it's Cooper Cup because
- 20:27Speaker 1: he went through this type of season. I'm hoping it
- 20:30Speaker 1: ends the same way Triple Crown in the Super Bowl.
- 20:32Speaker 1: What happened to Cooper Cup in twenty twenty one. Now,
- 20:35Speaker 1: just wearing the right uniform. I would love wearing the
- 20:38Speaker 1: right one. I would love for Jason to kind of,
- 20:40Speaker 1: you know, do the same thing there as well. But yeah,
- 20:42Speaker 1: that's gonna be a matchup. I expect nothing less at
- 20:44Speaker 1: this point. If Jason has less than one hundred yards,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you're thinking, man, what happened? Which is crazy? President crazy?
- 20:49Speaker 1: He has set Well, we've come to that time where
- 20:52Speaker 1: we're gonna tell you how the Seahawks trying to get
- 20:54Speaker 1: this thing done in prime time on Sunday Night Football,
- 20:56Speaker 1: Path to Victory five waits for the snat. Michael Dixon
- 21:02Speaker 1: puts it down. That kick is away. If that kick
- 21:05Speaker 1: is gun, good day. On Gwen Grit's Gun.
- 21:08Speaker 2: It's a path to victory on Hawk Talk.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Seahawks know they're a great opportunity in primetime to show
- 21:14Speaker 1: the nation what they're trying to build here, and it
- 21:17Speaker 1: always starts with the defense. Especially why the defensive playing.
- 21:20Speaker 1: They're the best at stopping the run against a team
- 21:22Speaker 1: that is third ranked running the football, and this is
- 21:25Speaker 1: where you got to go off and get it done. Cross,
- 21:27Speaker 1: you can't go off in this game. Same with Daniels
- 21:29Speaker 1: if he's out there containing him. So it starts up
- 21:31Speaker 1: front with those big boys.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Yeah, like you said, starts up front with the big boys,
- 21:34Speaker 3: and then on the back end, keep everything in front
- 21:36Speaker 3: of you at the same time. Right, Julian Love and Spoon,
- 21:39Speaker 3: we'll see what we know. Jay Loving gonna be there.
- 21:41Speaker 3: We're manifesting that Spoon is gonna be out there. And
- 21:46Speaker 3: if he is out there, what can we get out
- 21:48Speaker 3: of him? The energy you talked about, the tenacity. I
- 21:51Speaker 3: just can't wait to see him if he is out there. Offensively,
- 21:54Speaker 3: the Hawks need to fix third downs.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Man.
- 21:56Speaker 3: They're batt on third downs this year. The last two games,
- 21:58Speaker 3: the Hawks have him three or twenty six going third down.
- 22:02Speaker 3: I don't know the percentages in it at NASS, but
- 22:04Speaker 3: that's probably not good.
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do podcast math here, but not good.
- 22:07Speaker 3: You're right good, and find a way to get the
- 22:10Speaker 3: run game going, something we've been waiting for for a
- 22:11Speaker 3: while even though the numbers have been okay in several games,
- 22:14Speaker 3: they've been close at times, but they're not consistent. We
- 22:17Speaker 3: talked about Oots being back more rest with the offensive line,
- 22:20Speaker 3: maybe that might be the key ingredient to getting that
- 22:23Speaker 3: run game going, but.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Question about it, and they have the horses to do it.
- 22:26Speaker 1: So I'm just really excited about this. Keep finding ways
- 22:28Speaker 1: to get Jason the ball, and this is another statement game.
- 22:31Speaker 1: You come out of this, go and set you know
- 22:33Speaker 1: you're me six and two again with another division game
- 22:35Speaker 1: at home, things could really get going for the Seahawks
- 22:38Speaker 1: team in a good way. So we'll see what happens there. Reminder,
- 22:41Speaker 1: you can catch us anywhere YouTube, CIS dot com, Apple podcast, Spotify,
- 22:44Speaker 1: Amazon Music. In series XM, He's Michael Bumpas on NASA Chow.
- 22:48Speaker 1: We hopefully we'll be talking to you on Monday about
- 22:50Speaker 1: a Seahawks victory in primetime
