Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: President Trump says US negotiators and making progress in their
- 0:03Speaker 1: efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Mister
- 0:06Speaker 1: Trump confirmed territorial concessions by KIV were still on the
- 0:10Speaker 1: agenda and said the big concession from Moscow would be
- 0:13Speaker 1: to stop fighting and North America correspondent David Willis reports President.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Trumps j U Day on the negotiate diagree.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Busday in Ukraine.
- 0:24Speaker 4: No answer on that from the President, as he and
- 0:26Speaker 4: the First Lady headed to Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday. Earlier, however,
- 0:32Speaker 4: he touted tremendous progress in talks to end the bloodshed
- 0:36Speaker 4: in Ukraine before announcing he was sending his top diplomat
- 0:40Speaker 4: and son in law to Moscow in the hope of
- 0:43Speaker 4: a peace agreement.
- 0:44Speaker 2: They're dogging to Russia. Now. Steve Woodcom is going over,
- 0:48Speaker 2: maybe with Jared. I'm not sure about Jared going, but
- 0:51Speaker 2: he's involved in the Process's smart guy, and they're going
- 0:55Speaker 2: to be meeting with President Wootin, I believe next week
- 0:58Speaker 2: in Moscow.
- 0:59Speaker 4: But the role of Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff is coming
- 1:02Speaker 4: under fresh scrutiny. Bloomberg has published details of a telephone
- 1:06Speaker 4: conversation in which mister Whitcoff appears to be coaching the
- 1:10Speaker 4: Russians on how to get on Donald Trump's good side,
- 1:14Speaker 4: using flattery and praising his recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Since then, however, a twenty eight point American peace plan
- 1:23Speaker 4: that was seen as highly favorable to Russia has been amended,
- 1:27Speaker 4: a move welcomed by Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky. In his
- 1:32Speaker 4: nightly address, mister Zelenski said Ukraine's security was in the
- 1:36Speaker 4: interest of both America and Ukraine, adding that Russia respected
- 1:42Speaker 4: American power more than that of any other country. But
- 1:46Speaker 4: whilst he's seeking a White House meeting to discuss territorial concessions,
- 1:51Speaker 4: President Trump would for now at least rather leave those
- 1:55Speaker 4: sort of details to his negotiators. In a social media post,
- 1:59Speaker 4: he wrote, I look forward to hopefully meeting with President
- 2:02Speaker 4: Zelenski and President Putin soon, but only when the deal
- 2:06Speaker 4: to end this war is final or in its final stages.
- 2:11Speaker 4: For many of those caught up in this conflict, those
- 2:14Speaker 4: final stages cannot come soon enough. Last night, a mass
- 2:18Speaker 4: drone attack on the Ukrainian city of Zaparisha left a
- 2:22Speaker 4: dozen people injured and buildings and vehicles badly damaged. After
- 2:27Speaker 4: nearly four years of war, the stakes in these delicate
- 2:31Speaker 4: negotiations could hardly be higher. David Willis, BBC News Los Angeles.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Our Ukraine reporter after abdur Razlov is life for us
- 2:41Speaker 1: in Kiev and up to Jalila. What do we know
- 2:44Speaker 1: about where things stand right now with the negotiations over
- 2:48Speaker 1: this peace proposal?
- 2:52Speaker 3: Well, Kiev is still hoping to organize a meeting between
- 2:56Speaker 3: President Zelenski and Donald Trump in the US. The goal
- 2:59Speaker 3: of that meeting will be to discuss the most sensitive
- 3:03Speaker 3: and contentious issues of the peace plan. However, now it
- 3:08Speaker 3: appears that this discussion will happen in Ukraine when the
- 3:13Speaker 3: US Secretary of Army then risk All visits later this
- 3:16Speaker 3: week and the President Trump suggests that there will be
- 3:20Speaker 3: some territorial concessions from both sides. And this remains one
- 3:25Speaker 3: of those key issues that hasn't been resolved in the document,
- 3:30Speaker 3: and so far the position of Kiev and Moscow have
- 3:34Speaker 3: been irreconcilable. And Russia wants the occupied territories to be
- 3:39Speaker 3: recognized as a part of their land, but also they
- 3:42Speaker 3: want the entire Donets and Lugansk regions to be given
- 3:46Speaker 3: to them. Remember, the part of Donets region is still
- 3:48Speaker 3: controlled by the Ukrainian army, and that means that if
- 3:51Speaker 3: that deal comes through, it means the Ukrainian forces will
- 3:55Speaker 3: have to pull out from those areas. But also Russia
- 3:58Speaker 3: wants this recognition of those stories territories, and Ukraine insists
- 4:02Speaker 3: that this will be the red line for them that
- 4:05Speaker 3: they will not cross, that they will not accept any
- 4:08Speaker 3: legal recognition of the occupied territories.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Russia keeps saying it has not yet received this revised
- 4:15Speaker 1: document and so far we've had no indication, have we
- 4:18Speaker 1: that Russia wants to end the fighting?
- 4:23Speaker 3: That is correct, yes. Just yesterday, the spokesperson of President
- 4:27Speaker 3: put In, Mitley Pasco, said that they hadn't received any
- 4:31Speaker 3: new draft of this piece deal. But the Foreign Minister
- 4:36Speaker 3: Sergi Lavorov Foreign Minutes of Russia. He suggested that the
- 4:40Speaker 3: revised document may not reflect Russia's positions and therefore they
- 4:44Speaker 3: may not be acceptable for Moscow. Remember, Moscow wants the
- 4:49Speaker 3: agreements that they proposed in Alaska. When Putin met with
- 4:54Speaker 3: Donald Trump. During that meeting, Vladimir Putin suggested that the
- 4:59Speaker 3: frozen the current frontline will be frozen along the southern
- 5:03Speaker 3: regions of Zapparisia and Herzon, but the entire Donuts region
- 5:08Speaker 3: and Lugan's region will be given to Russia. And this
- 5:11Speaker 3: is something that Ukrainian military are completely against. They're saying
- 5:15Speaker 3: that they cannot simply pull out their troops and give
- 5:18Speaker 3: away the land that they still control to Russia without
- 5:21Speaker 3: any fight.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Abdurazlova in Kiev, thank you.
