- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppas and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. Welcome
- 0:33Speaker 1: to Hawk Talk Recap edition. And the Seahawks lose to
- 0:37Speaker 1: the Steelers twenty three to twenty in overtime. Great game.
- 0:41Speaker 1: This team battled back, was in position to win, but
- 0:44Speaker 1: just couldn't get it done. And like we always do,
- 0:47Speaker 1: we're gonna get into trenches with Ray Roberts. It's time
- 0:51Speaker 1: to go inside the trenches with former Seahawk Ray Roberts,
- 0:56Speaker 1: Big Ray Man. These Seahawks battle to halves right first half,
- 1:02Speaker 1: no score, second half, they get things going and it
- 1:05Speaker 1: was really what you and Robert Turbin had been asking
- 1:08Speaker 1: for all season. The run game got things going. Um,
- 1:11Speaker 1: what does the run game do and what did it
- 1:13Speaker 1: do for this team last night? Well, I felt, like,
- 1:17Speaker 1: you know, in the first half of the game, like
- 1:19Speaker 1: you know, we talked in the post game, it seemed
- 1:21Speaker 1: as if the Sea Offs are trying to fill out
- 1:25Speaker 1: the Steeler defense on offense, so they weren't really committed
- 1:29Speaker 1: to anything more than just maybe running screens the tras
- 1:34Speaker 1: that they weren't working. But when they were able to
- 1:37Speaker 1: start running the ball in the second half, it really
- 1:39Speaker 1: settled office down. It gave it an identity, It gave
- 1:43Speaker 1: the you know, the the option of something that they
- 1:45Speaker 1: that they could rely on and trust. In the first half,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I think Um Collins had four carries for seventeen yards
- 1:52Speaker 1: roughly four yards to carry, and in the second half
- 1:56Speaker 1: he added sixteen more carries for over five yards to
- 1:59Speaker 1: carry and ended up with the first one hundred yard
- 2:01Speaker 1: rushing game that Sea Offs that has since December of
- 2:04Speaker 1: twenty nineteen. And so to me, that's kind of the
- 2:08Speaker 1: recipe that kind of gets this offense going, because then
- 2:11Speaker 1: everything else works off of that. Even though you can
- 2:14Speaker 1: run play action without a good running game, if you
- 2:16Speaker 1: have a good running game, the flection is even more
- 2:18Speaker 1: effective in my opinion, so it really helps slow down
- 2:21Speaker 1: the pass rush, all those different things. So it really
- 2:24Speaker 1: did give the Seahoffs a chance to get back into
- 2:27Speaker 1: this game offensively and get the games overtime. Do you
- 2:31Speaker 1: think that we've been asking this question all year? Right?
- 2:33Speaker 1: What's their identity? Who do the Seahawks want to be?
- 2:37Speaker 1: Do you think if when Russell Wilson gets back, they're
- 2:40Speaker 1: going to continue this kind of run first deal? You know,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I don't know if it has to be. I think,
- 2:47Speaker 1: you know, some people kind of mischaracterize the whole idea
- 2:50Speaker 1: of like run first. It's not necessarily run first, it's
- 2:54Speaker 1: just run. It's like it's like it has to be
- 2:56Speaker 1: part of what you do. And if you if you
- 2:59Speaker 1: kind of use it as an after thalt or or
- 3:01Speaker 1: you're just running in these really obvious rundown situations, then
- 3:07Speaker 1: you're going to put yourself at a disadvantage. So like
- 3:09Speaker 1: even in the first half, say there was a play
- 3:11Speaker 1: where Collins ran for like seven or eight yards, and
- 3:15Speaker 1: then the very next play they went to an empty
- 3:18Speaker 1: backfield set. It's like, man, you just ran, you just
- 3:20Speaker 1: ran for seven or eight yards. Run that thing again.
- 3:24Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. And it doesn't have to
- 3:25Speaker 1: mean that you're running on first and second and pass
- 3:27Speaker 1: it on third. Hell, if you run it on second
- 3:29Speaker 1: down and pick up seven yards running again on third,
- 3:31Speaker 1: If you run it on third down and pick up
- 3:34Speaker 1: you know, a first down, running again on the first down.
- 3:36Speaker 1: You know. So it's not necessarily run and run pass,
- 3:39Speaker 1: but it's just incorporating the run in a way that
- 3:41Speaker 1: it's part of the identity, and that the identity of
- 3:44Speaker 1: the offense isn't just you know, to get the ball
- 3:47Speaker 1: out to the guys on the edges, you know, DK
- 3:49Speaker 1: and Tyler and all the other skill guys we have,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you know, at the receiver spot. But it has to
- 3:54Speaker 1: be part of what they do. It kind of sets
- 3:56Speaker 1: the stage for a lot of the other things that
- 3:59Speaker 1: they want to do. Yeah, I feel you're raided. There
- 4:01Speaker 1: was a third and seven and they ran the ball
- 4:03Speaker 1: with Travis Homer and actually picked up the first down.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I feel like if you can do things like that, um,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you're gonna keep teams guessing. So now let's go over
- 4:11Speaker 1: into the defensive side of the ball. It seems like
- 4:13Speaker 1: they had their best night of the year. What did
- 4:15Speaker 1: you see out of the defense. Well, I felt like,
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know, with Naji Harris, you know, a lot of
- 4:21Speaker 1: people were talking about you know, him coming into the
- 4:23Speaker 1: into this game and being able, you know, a very
- 4:26Speaker 1: gifted running back and has a lot of skill set,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but they did a pretty good job containing him running
- 4:32Speaker 1: the ball. I guess the biggest disappointment was I just
- 4:35Speaker 1: I just thought we'd get more hits and and you know,
- 4:38Speaker 1: not necessarily sacks because Ben Roethlisberg is a hard dude
- 4:41Speaker 1: to sack, but but I thought we get more hits
- 4:44Speaker 1: on the quarterback. And at the end of the night,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I don't know if we ended with any hits on
- 4:47Speaker 1: the on the on the quarterback that was calculated as
- 4:50Speaker 1: an actual hit, and so that was a little bit disappointing.
- 4:53Speaker 1: But I thought they played pretty good in the in
- 4:55Speaker 1: the run game. Just could use you know, with the
- 4:57Speaker 1: guys that we had coming into the season, Myoa Robinson,
- 5:01Speaker 1: you know done, laugh Taylor and pray to God that
- 5:03Speaker 1: Taylor was health healthy and able to fly back with
- 5:05Speaker 1: the team. Uh. We just expected more pass rush out
- 5:09Speaker 1: of those guys, and at this point that pass rush
- 5:11Speaker 1: hasn't really materialized. So now the Hawks are two and four.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Last time they were two and four was twenty fifteen.
- 5:17Speaker 1: They still make the playoffs, but we got seventeen games
- 5:20Speaker 1: this year. Ray, What are a couple of things that
- 5:22Speaker 1: need to happen and be more consistent for this team
- 5:25Speaker 1: to try to duplicate what they did in twenty fifteen
- 5:27Speaker 1: and make it to the playoffs. Well, I'll tell you
- 5:30Speaker 1: right now, there's some very outspoken dudes on the team,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and so it's gonna be important from this point forward
- 5:38Speaker 1: that they can just block out all the outside noise,
- 5:41Speaker 1: because all the outside noise is gonna, you know, be
- 5:44Speaker 1: bringing up people's contracts or bringing up who you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: who's making plays and who's not making plays, and who
- 5:49Speaker 1: should be planning and who shouldn't be planned and uh
- 5:52Speaker 1: and if you kind of get into that fight with folks,
- 5:55Speaker 1: it will impact your psyche. And so it's gonna be
- 5:57Speaker 1: out to guys like Bobby Wagner and Hustle and Gino
- 6:01Speaker 1: and those guys to kind of keep everybody focused just
- 6:03Speaker 1: on the next game, because that's the only game that
- 6:06Speaker 1: they can that they can win. They can't win Week
- 6:09Speaker 1: fourteen right now. They just need to win the very
- 6:11Speaker 1: next game. And so uh, staying focused on the task
- 6:14Speaker 1: at hand and then just fighting their way back into it.
- 6:17Speaker 1: This team, I think we forget there's a lot of
- 6:21Speaker 1: new pieces on this team. There's new guys in the secondary,
- 6:24Speaker 1: new guys on defense, Guys that are that may have
- 6:26Speaker 1: been around, but have more um bigger roles at this
- 6:31Speaker 1: point on both sides of the ball. New new offensive lineman,
- 6:35Speaker 1: you know, playing different spots, you know, you know, getting
- 6:37Speaker 1: more planned time, all that kind of stuff, and so
- 6:40Speaker 1: new offensive coordinator. It's going to take a while for
- 6:43Speaker 1: all that stuff to kind of come together. And the
- 6:45Speaker 1: hope is that, you know, the very next game is
- 6:48Speaker 1: going to be that game that all that happens, and
- 6:49Speaker 1: so you have to put all of your focus into
- 6:52Speaker 1: bringing all of that having all that stuff manifest itself
- 6:55Speaker 1: in the very next game so you can put yourself
- 6:57Speaker 1: back on track to fight your way in fall your
- 7:00Speaker 1: way back into the playoff picture. It's all about Monday
- 7:03Speaker 1: night football, now, Ray, Well, we'll see you Monday. They
- 7:05Speaker 1: take all the Saints at home, Yes, sir, go home?
- 7:08Speaker 1: All right, that was big Ray dropping some knowledge for y'all.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Right now, but let's bring get NASA showby and figure
- 7:14Speaker 1: out what had happened, See what had happened? At first?
- 7:19Speaker 1: What had happened was unho what had happened? Man? Bump?
- 7:25Speaker 1: It was heartbreak hotel in Pittsburgh last night the Seahawks
- 7:28Speaker 1: fall the two and four on the season drop in
- 7:30Speaker 1: a game to the Steelers on Sunday Night football. And
- 7:33Speaker 1: we've said this a lot this year. Almost every feels
- 7:36Speaker 1: like almost every week that Seahawks games have been a tail.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Two halves in the first half, the Seahawks really struggled
- 7:42Speaker 1: to get anything going offensively. I mean, you look at
- 7:45Speaker 1: that drive Tart It's it's it's pretty hard. Punt punt, punt, punt, punt.
- 7:49Speaker 1: End of half, so they couldn't do anything five straight
- 7:52Speaker 1: punts and took an eat end and a half. And
- 7:54Speaker 1: on defense, things started off a little better. They forced
- 7:57Speaker 1: Steelers to punt on their first three drives. However, second
- 8:00Speaker 1: quarter that's when things really started going for the Steelers,
- 8:02Speaker 1: with back to back touchdown drives. One drive was eight
- 8:05Speaker 1: place for fifty four yards, the next one was fourteen
- 8:07Speaker 1: place for sixty four yards, both resulting in touchdowns and bump.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I'm not sure what happened at halftime, man, I'm not
- 8:14Speaker 1: sure at all, But when the Seahawks came out, they're
- 8:16Speaker 1: a completely different team in that second half. Third quarter
- 8:18Speaker 1: has been really rough on this offense. Only had one
- 8:20Speaker 1: game this year where they scored in the third quarter.
- 8:22Speaker 1: And the Seahawks open third quarter with back to back
- 8:25Speaker 1: a long touchdown drives, and the first one is that
- 8:28Speaker 1: really got me going. You know, it was the first
- 8:31Speaker 1: time we've really seen the Seahawks commit to something. They
- 8:33Speaker 1: committed to running the football. They had ten plays on
- 8:36Speaker 1: that drive, They ran the ball nine times, passing just once,
- 8:39Speaker 1: and Alex Collins rushed for like seventy yards on that
- 8:43Speaker 1: drive alone and really got this offense going. So that
- 8:45Speaker 1: was really good to see. I would like to in
- 8:48Speaker 1: my head, I'm in the locker room and I see
- 8:50Speaker 1: Pete Caroli go to Shane Waldron and whisper in his ear,
- 8:53Speaker 1: run the ball and just walk away, you know, like
- 8:55Speaker 1: on some Godfathers stuff. In Shane's like, all right, I
- 8:57Speaker 1: got you, That's exactly what we're gonna do. So this
- 9:00Speaker 1: second half they come out, it was nice to see.
- 9:03Speaker 1: It was also nice to see him the tight ends
- 9:05Speaker 1: get involved. Right another scoring drive they had, Gerald Ever
- 9:08Speaker 1: gets involved with a forty one yard reception was more
- 9:11Speaker 1: the run after the catch. He was a Beastmos stiffs
- 9:13Speaker 1: arms the guy, spins out of another tackle, and then
- 9:16Speaker 1: Will Disley, who was my key hawk, gets involved and
- 9:19Speaker 1: scores a touchdown. It's well, so we saw some things
- 9:22Speaker 1: that we haven't seen as of late. We saw them
- 9:25Speaker 1: commit to the run game, and we saw them get
- 9:27Speaker 1: the tight ends involved. I think if they can if
- 9:29Speaker 1: they can continue to sprinkle all that stuff in, maybe
- 9:32Speaker 1: this offense looks a bit different. Yeah, no, it's it's there.
- 9:35Speaker 1: It's good to see them, like you said, commit to something.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And Gino smith Man, we'll talk about all these guys
- 9:40Speaker 1: and playmakers, but Gino he I thought he played well.
- 9:44Speaker 1: He engineered impressive nine play fifty yard drive in the
- 9:48Speaker 1: second half or echieving the fourth quarter. The Seahawks were
- 9:51Speaker 1: down twenty to seventeen with a minute thirty in the clock.
- 9:54Speaker 1: He takes him right down the field. Then there was
- 9:56Speaker 1: a bunch of craziness right that it means it's guess
- 10:00Speaker 1: I shouldn't be surprised that it's a typical Seahawks game.
- 10:02Speaker 1: You know, nothing is ever normal or easy, especially in primetime.
- 10:06Speaker 1: They drive down there completing out to a dk metcalf
- 10:10Speaker 1: on the sideline. He tries to stay and bound to
- 10:12Speaker 1: get a couple more yards. The ball gets punched out.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Freddy Swain does a great job hustling to the football,
- 10:18Speaker 1: recovers it, then as a presence of mind to get
- 10:20Speaker 1: up sprint to the middle field, give the official the ball.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Geno Smith clocks the ball to one second, But it
- 10:26Speaker 1: turns out that play never happened because they buzz down
- 10:29Speaker 1: from upstairs the officials they wanted to review the fumble.
- 10:33Speaker 1: So then technically that happened with three seconds left. So
- 10:36Speaker 1: then after the review said it was a fumble and
- 10:39Speaker 1: clear recovery, then the Seahawks had to snap the ball again,
- 10:41Speaker 1: clocked it again. Jason Meyers ties the game with a
- 10:44Speaker 1: field goal, sending the game and overtime, and bump. I
- 10:47Speaker 1: felt really good about overtime. This team fought so hard
- 10:50Speaker 1: to come back in that game. They scratched Claude, fought
- 10:54Speaker 1: they were back in it. They win the coin toss,
- 10:56Speaker 1: they get the ball to start. You think things are
- 10:58Speaker 1: going well. Unfortunately the Seahawks punt on that first drive.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Then they kick it over to the Steelers and the
- 11:04Speaker 1: Seahawks defense, who's been you know, questionable at times of
- 11:07Speaker 1: this season, really stepped up big, huge play by Trey Brown.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Will break that down in the coach's corner, set up
- 11:13Speaker 1: another punt and we get the ball back once again,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and now in overtime with the new rules, once both
- 11:17Speaker 1: teams will possess the ball, the next score would have won. Unfortunately,
- 11:21Speaker 1: on that first play, kind of similar to that Rams
- 11:23Speaker 1: game last on last Thursday. They came out in a
- 11:26Speaker 1: heavy set, their two man route, nothing was open, Gino
- 11:29Speaker 1: put the ball down, try to rush and then unfortunately
- 11:32Speaker 1: t J. Watt made a great play who was a
- 11:34Speaker 1: nightmare for the Seahawks all game long and just didn't
- 11:37Speaker 1: shake out for the Hawks. Man tough man. That's why
- 11:40Speaker 1: you pay players all that, bunny for those moments right
- 11:44Speaker 1: there and t J. Watt man, he gotta they gotta
- 11:46Speaker 1: return on t J. Watt with that play. He I mean,
- 11:47Speaker 1: he was active all night. There were a couple of
- 11:49Speaker 1: players where he's punching at the football. Guys are asking
- 11:51Speaker 1: him to get thrown out the game. You know the
- 11:53Speaker 1: league will look at that, but um, yeah, end of
- 11:56Speaker 1: the day, these guys were in position to win a game.
- 11:58Speaker 1: And I know fans will be frustrated and they're tired
- 12:01Speaker 1: of end of the day type quotes, but this is
- 12:04Speaker 1: who this team is at this point. They're a team
- 12:06Speaker 1: who are trying to figure things out and who are
- 12:08Speaker 1: going to fight to stay in games. And if you
- 12:10Speaker 1: have an opportunity to win games at this point of
- 12:13Speaker 1: the season, you'll take it. Now it's time to go.
- 12:15Speaker 1: You got two games coming up that are winnable. You're
- 12:17Speaker 1: two and four. You gotta get things going. All right,
- 12:19Speaker 1: let's highlight some of these dudes. Let's look at the playmakers. Playmakers,
- 12:34Speaker 1: all right, playmakers. He mentioned his name already, Geno Smith
- 12:36Speaker 1: making his first start since two thousand and seventeen. It's
- 12:40Speaker 1: been a while. Gino obviously stepped in and played well
- 12:42Speaker 1: against the Rams on Thursday Night Football last week on
- 12:45Speaker 1: Sunday Night. He was twenty three for thirty two with
- 12:47Speaker 1: two hundred nine yards one touchdown at a CUB rating
- 12:50Speaker 1: of ninety nine point six. And for me, I thought Gino,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I thought he played well. You know, like I said,
- 12:56Speaker 1: it took a while for the offense and going in
- 12:57Speaker 1: that first half, but once they the Seahawks committed to
- 13:00Speaker 1: running the football, and we'd hope to see that. Anyway,
- 13:02Speaker 1: going into this game without Russell Wilson, you know, other
- 13:04Speaker 1: guys need to step up. But I said, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: we're hopefully Chris Carson was gonna be able to go.
- 13:08Speaker 1: He was not, so the running game got going. But
- 13:11Speaker 1: I thought, Gina Smith did, what are you supposed to do?
- 13:13Speaker 1: You know? I thought he gave the Seahawks an opportunity
- 13:15Speaker 1: to win, but Loki or honestly, I just feel so
- 13:18Speaker 1: bad for him. Man. He worked so hard. He's prepared
- 13:21Speaker 1: every single week. He's a great dude in the locker room,
- 13:23Speaker 1: has respect of every single person at the vMac. And
- 13:27Speaker 1: it was tough to see, you know, the last play,
- 13:29Speaker 1: you know, the fumble would come down in his hand
- 13:31Speaker 1: and set up a game winning fieldal for the Steelers,
- 13:34Speaker 1: because I thought he played well enough for the Seahawks
- 13:36Speaker 1: to get a win. So it's just hard to see.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But big ups to Gina for stepping in there and
- 13:39Speaker 1: keeping the Seahawks to float. And he was doing the
- 13:42Speaker 1: right thing. In that moment. There was a two man
- 13:44Speaker 1: route combination out there got DK and the ride I
- 13:47Speaker 1: believe Lockett was on the left. DK was trying to
- 13:49Speaker 1: go across the middle. He was locked up. Locket wasn't
- 13:51Speaker 1: open either. What do you do? You tuck the ball
- 13:54Speaker 1: and you run. Just a really good play by t J.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Watt or another playmaker. Alex Collins twenty carries one hundred
- 13:59Speaker 1: and one yards one touchdown, the first one hundred yard
- 14:02Speaker 1: rushan since December twenty nineteen, which I think is crazy.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I feel like Chris Carson goes for a hunting every
- 14:08Speaker 1: other game, but that's not the case. Alexe Collins stepped
- 14:10Speaker 1: in and really set to to him that second half.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Now he left the game with something going on with
- 14:14Speaker 1: his hip, his quad. Sounds like he's gonna be okay.
- 14:17Speaker 1: So next week I think they're gonna lean on this
- 14:19Speaker 1: guy again. He's showing like, look I can handle it.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Give me the rock. Don't forget I rushed for what
- 14:24Speaker 1: nine hundred to one thousand yards with the Baltibore Ravens.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I've been here, I've done that. It was nice to
- 14:28Speaker 1: see Alex Collins get this offense going. Yeah, and it
- 14:31Speaker 1: seemed like he was more patient. I feel like you
- 14:33Speaker 1: guys talked about it, you and Robert Turbin and Ray
- 14:35Speaker 1: Roberts and stuff that he against the against the Rams,
- 14:38Speaker 1: he missed a couple cuts that were there, and this game,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I feel like he had another game under his belt.
- 14:43Speaker 1: He knew he was starting, he was prepared, and I
- 14:46Speaker 1: thought he looked great and he, like I said, he
- 14:48Speaker 1: was the reason that he us got back in the game.
- 14:50Speaker 1: That drive alone, hard nosed running. He's spinning off dudes.
- 14:53Speaker 1: So big ups out AC for for showing out another playmaker.
- 14:57Speaker 1: DK Metcalf wasn't the game or used to seeing whether
- 15:01Speaker 1: it's him or Tyler Lockett. He had six receptions fifty
- 15:03Speaker 1: eight yards, had the one fumble late in the game. Um,
- 15:07Speaker 1: I think with him, I like that even in the
- 15:10Speaker 1: game or because you know, I didn't throw for a
- 15:11Speaker 1: twenty yards, so he was still active. He had six receptions,
- 15:14Speaker 1: he was involved in the game. But I think I
- 15:18Speaker 1: think he's he's a guy that he's taken that next
- 15:20Speaker 1: step in the sense of he can still help the
- 15:22Speaker 1: team and contribute when things aren't going great offensively, He's
- 15:26Speaker 1: still gonna get down there. He's great blocking downfield, he's
- 15:29Speaker 1: running his tailoff. So good to see Dk. Just it's
- 15:32Speaker 1: almost like in baseball they talk about it, if you're
- 15:35Speaker 1: like a starting pitcher, you don't have your fastball if
- 15:36Speaker 1: you don't have this, but how else you're gonna continue
- 15:38Speaker 1: to help the team. And he's battled through some cramping
- 15:40Speaker 1: issues throughout the game, which probably hampered him at times,
- 15:43Speaker 1: but he's still effective, still found ways to help out
- 15:45Speaker 1: this team. So good work by DK. Yep and good
- 15:48Speaker 1: work DK. Let's go to the linebacker group. Bobby Wagner
- 15:51Speaker 1: and Jordan Brooks both had fourteam tackles. Um typical day
- 15:55Speaker 1: for Bobby Wagner, double digits, you know what I mean.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Jordan Brooks is starting to evolve, didn't emerge into a
- 16:00Speaker 1: guy that you can count on. I mean, we talk
- 16:02Speaker 1: about this defense having one of their best days of
- 16:05Speaker 1: the year. These guys are why when you have guys
- 16:07Speaker 1: on that second level who are gonna wrap dudes up,
- 16:11Speaker 1: not allow these big explosive plays, you should have a
- 16:14Speaker 1: good day. So Bobby Wagoner, Jordan Brooks fourteen tackles. Nice
- 16:17Speaker 1: to see. Oh yeah, and here's the one I'm the
- 16:20Speaker 1: most excited about, other than Gino Smith is my guy
- 16:23Speaker 1: DJ reid Man. These corners have been taking heat this
- 16:27Speaker 1: season all season long, whether it was their fault or not.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Balls are gonna get completed on you in the National
- 16:32Speaker 1: Football League, especially if you're off and you're playing cover three. Well,
- 16:35Speaker 1: the thing that I loved about the corners was they
- 16:38Speaker 1: were active. Man DJ read nine tackles, two passes offence,
- 16:41Speaker 1: and you could just say that's the thing. The next
- 16:44Speaker 1: step I wanted to see these corners take was take
- 16:46Speaker 1: the ball away, make impact plays. We were racking our brains.
- 16:49Speaker 1: We weren't seeing pass breakups from the secondary. And what
- 16:52Speaker 1: I loved is they're they're more aggressive. They were up
- 16:55Speaker 1: and they're bumping runs. Sometimes they mix that up with
- 16:57Speaker 1: some zone, some quarters, some cover two back thing and
- 17:00Speaker 1: Dj he just made some places, made plays on the football,
- 17:03Speaker 1: saved a couple of big plays, knocking the ball out
- 17:05Speaker 1: a couple of times. So I just love to see
- 17:06Speaker 1: him being active. And shout out to Trey Brown who
- 17:09Speaker 1: comes in after Sidney Jones gets banged up and he
- 17:11Speaker 1: makes a huge play. So love to see the quarters
- 17:14Speaker 1: being active. But I think that's a really good sign
- 17:16Speaker 1: moving forward because we know, yes, they are talented enough
- 17:18Speaker 1: to get it done. This next step is taking the
- 17:20Speaker 1: ball away, and I think they got They're definitely on
- 17:23Speaker 1: the right track. After the game, we just had they
- 17:26Speaker 1: are moving in the right direction. Okay, here's the wide
- 17:28Speaker 1: receiver roundup. We talked about DK six catches fifty eight
- 17:32Speaker 1: yards on seven targets. Jeld every got involved. He had
- 17:34Speaker 1: two catches for forty yards. Tyler Lockett two for thirty five.
- 17:38Speaker 1: One big reception. I believe that was in overtime or
- 17:41Speaker 1: the fourth quarter down the sideline. DJ Dallas had five
- 17:44Speaker 1: for thirty three. He was big in the fourth quarter.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Gina was using him a bunch of checkdowns. Travis Homer
- 17:49Speaker 1: had one for twenty seven. Penny Hard one for twelve.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Nice catch on the sideline. Will Disk he had two
- 17:53Speaker 1: for eight in the touchdown. Philip Door said, first reception
- 17:57Speaker 1: as a Seahawk in his second stint with the Seahawks
- 18:00Speaker 1: one for three. Alice Collins one from minus three. Freddie
- 18:02Speaker 1: Swain one negative form a lot of football players. Such
- 18:05Speaker 1: a full ball in the pass game. That is good. Now,
- 18:09Speaker 1: let's break down a play in the coach's corner. Yeah, man,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I mentioned it earlier. Tray Brown. It's third in four
- 18:15Speaker 1: in overtime. The Steelers are backed up facing in the
- 18:18Speaker 1: Seahawks have not been great in some of these short
- 18:21Speaker 1: third down yard situations. They end up coming up big
- 18:24Speaker 1: and Tray Brown was the man who answered the call.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Ben stands strong, pump fakes. Now he's being chased. Now
- 18:28Speaker 1: he's gonna throw the nearside, getting hit, getting pushed back,
- 18:32Speaker 1: Tray Brown. What a player on Ray Ray McLeod. He
- 18:36Speaker 1: catches the Boulders McLeod. He was about a yard and
- 18:39Speaker 1: a half from pay creep picking up the first town
- 18:41Speaker 1: and Trey Brown like a rocket comes in. He hits
- 18:45Speaker 1: him and knucks him on his wallet, and the Steelers
- 18:49Speaker 1: are gonna be forced to punt. What a play by
- 18:52Speaker 1: the rookie. Yeah, Trey Brown. Man Palm moore is said
- 18:56Speaker 1: of the best last night, he goes, this was one
- 18:58Speaker 1: of the first players where I saw a dB look
- 19:01Speaker 1: like a dB. You hear Trey Brown talk about the
- 19:03Speaker 1: playoff to where he says, look, we were in quarters.
- 19:05Speaker 1: So being quarters, he has like his deep fourth of
- 19:08Speaker 1: the field right. His job is to not let anything
- 19:10Speaker 1: get behind him. He's lined up over Chase Claypool. He
- 19:13Speaker 1: uses the right technique, opens up his tits, but he
- 19:15Speaker 1: keeps his eyes inside to kind of see what the
- 19:17Speaker 1: quarterback is doing. Claypool runs kind of like a curl
- 19:20Speaker 1: around eight to ten yards and there's a receiver going
- 19:23Speaker 1: out to the flat. That's Ray Ray McLeod. Now instead
- 19:26Speaker 1: of just letting Ray Ray cash that ball over committing man,
- 19:29Speaker 1: he kind of stalks Ben Roethlisberger. He says, Look, I
- 19:32Speaker 1: saw Ben rolling to the right. I saw his shoulders
- 19:34Speaker 1: turn to McLeod, and then I just broke on the football.
- 19:37Speaker 1: That's the easy part. Now you got to come down
- 19:39Speaker 1: hill and secure the bag and make this tackle. He
- 19:42Speaker 1: did exactly. That kept his head out the way. Huge
- 19:44Speaker 1: play on third down, giving the Seahawks a chance to
- 19:47Speaker 1: win the ball game. Yeah, you mentioned it. I love
- 19:50Speaker 1: this playoffs my favorite play of the game exactly. I
- 19:52Speaker 1: think Paul hit the nail on the head about just
- 19:53Speaker 1: seeing a great dB play and it's just the thing
- 19:56Speaker 1: I loved about it. It's just technically sound. There's times
- 19:59Speaker 1: this here where you've seen some things that weren't a
- 20:00Speaker 1: sound from the cornerbacks. And Trey Browns makes a great play.
- 20:03Speaker 1: And when you're gonna cover four, you know across the
- 20:05Speaker 1: board you can be a little bit more aggressive. You
- 20:07Speaker 1: don't have to bail right away. And he just does
- 20:10Speaker 1: a great job and he's reading the quarterback and they
- 20:12Speaker 1: talk about that stuff even at the high school level. Boom,
- 20:14Speaker 1: you turn your shoulders. It's not a soft pump thagg
- 20:17Speaker 1: Now you know that ball's coming out now and he
- 20:18Speaker 1: puts his foot in the ground and gets downhill. I mean,
- 20:20Speaker 1: that is about that. If you're teaching tape, if you're young,
- 20:24Speaker 1: if you're a high school or if you're playing football
- 20:27Speaker 1: at any level, that is how you teach it. That
- 20:29Speaker 1: is how you break on the football, that's how you
- 20:30Speaker 1: make play, especially in the NFL, and you just love
- 20:32Speaker 1: to see it. Coach Pete Carroll has been raving about
- 20:35Speaker 1: how good they think this guy could be, and he
- 20:37Speaker 1: was going to compete to play right at the beginning
- 20:39Speaker 1: of the season, but he obviously he suffered an injury
- 20:42Speaker 1: and he was out for a couple of weeks. But
- 20:43Speaker 1: he came back and he's ready to go, and I
- 20:45Speaker 1: won't be surprised. He's gonna be pressing for playing time
- 20:48Speaker 1: and they're gonna have to play him. I think at
- 20:49Speaker 1: this point, with what he showed on Sunday night and
- 20:52Speaker 1: what he's gonna show in practice, he's gonna make sure
- 20:54Speaker 1: that he gets on the field. And that's why they
- 20:56Speaker 1: drafted him in the fourth round because they thought he's
- 20:58Speaker 1: a guy despite his size, can come into this league
- 21:01Speaker 1: and make plays right away. And we saw that on Sunday,
- 21:03Speaker 1: so I'm really excited about it. I know some people
- 21:06Speaker 1: were concerned that if we march out DJ Reid and
- 21:09Speaker 1: Trey Brown, we have two short corners the Seahawks. You
- 21:11Speaker 1: normally have taller corners this and that. I don't think
- 21:14Speaker 1: that's an issue. You need guys out there. We're gonna
- 21:16Speaker 1: break on the football, they're gonna make plays or they're
- 21:17Speaker 1: not gonna get beat deep, and we saw that from
- 21:20Speaker 1: DJ Reid and Trey Brown, so I would love to
- 21:22Speaker 1: see a lot more of that combination moving forward. Goal
- 21:25Speaker 1: gets the grain, Pete m Little dos a chance. The
- 21:27Speaker 1: dB is a fight scene, all right. We usually want
- 21:30Speaker 1: to talk about the victor formation in this segment, but
- 21:32Speaker 1: not this week. The clock ran out an taken by Huntley.
- 21:40Speaker 1: They're just gonna let the clock wind down. Peach, not
- 21:42Speaker 1: even gonna bother taking that last time out. All right,
- 21:47Speaker 1: clock right now. For the first time since Russell Wilson
- 21:50Speaker 1: has been a Seahawk, he did not play and they
- 21:53Speaker 1: did not have Chris carsonon. That's a recipe for disaster.
- 21:57Speaker 1: But end of the day, these guys were still in
- 22:00Speaker 1: the game. It was a teletoo half. The Seahawks really
- 22:02Speaker 1: found themselves in the second half, just came up short.
- 22:04Speaker 1: How did they find themselves They started running the football.
- 22:06Speaker 1: They threw one pass on that ten play drive to
- 22:09Speaker 1: score touchdown, and it was a screen pass. They weren't
- 22:10Speaker 1: even pushing that thing down the field. So you don't
- 22:13Speaker 1: have Russell Wilson, you rely on the run. You're still
- 22:16Speaker 1: in this ball game. Yeah, absolutely that. I loved hearing that.
- 22:19Speaker 1: And Pete Carroll talked about it about in his radio
- 22:21Speaker 1: show this morning. Just committing to the run. That is
- 22:23Speaker 1: Pete Carroll football, that seah football. Some people might not
- 22:26Speaker 1: like it, and you can do both. That doesn't mean
- 22:29Speaker 1: now they're gonna come out and run it on first
- 22:30Speaker 1: and second down every single time throw it on third
- 22:32Speaker 1: down they're gonna be seventy five percent n twenty five
- 22:34Speaker 1: percent pass. No, it's balanced and like we've talked about
- 22:38Speaker 1: all year, and we finally saw it, when you need
- 22:40Speaker 1: to run the ball, if you're able to, that opens
- 22:42Speaker 1: up everything and they really up the offense going and
- 22:44Speaker 1: on the defensive side, man, they finally responded We've been
- 22:47Speaker 1: asking for that unit to show up, and they finally
- 22:49Speaker 1: did on a big stage. That was the best performance
- 22:52Speaker 1: we've seen from them since the Colts game. The Steelers,
- 22:56Speaker 1: even though they didn't have Juju Smithshooster, they have weapons.
- 22:58Speaker 1: They have dudes that can play. Ben Roethlisberg is a
- 23:01Speaker 1: lot older now, but he gets the ball out fast
- 23:03Speaker 1: and it's difficult. Jamal Adams is playing a lot closer
- 23:06Speaker 1: in the box on Sunday, which I love to see.
- 23:09Speaker 1: They brought up in a lot more pressures. We got
- 23:11Speaker 1: to see Marquis Blair, Ryan Neilman out there making play.
- 23:13Speaker 1: So love to see the defense stepping up, especially the corners.
- 23:16Speaker 1: So I'm hoping they can. I'm hoping this is a turn.
- 23:19Speaker 1: It happened last year. I'm hoping this is a turn
- 23:21Speaker 1: and we can see that kind of from the defense
- 23:23Speaker 1: for the rest of the year. All Right, this is
- 23:25Speaker 1: the situation they are in. They are two and four
- 23:27Speaker 1: on the season and they're battling for their playoffs lives.
- 23:30Speaker 1: The Saints come into Seattle on Monday for Monday Night Football.
- 23:34Speaker 1: We never want to say it's must win, but I mean,
- 23:36Speaker 1: I feel like the last three weeks We've been saying it,
- 23:38Speaker 1: so let's just keep it on. It is a must
- 23:41Speaker 1: win game, all right, Seahawks. You win this one, you
- 23:45Speaker 1: win the next one, You get a buy Hopefully you
- 23:47Speaker 1: get your quarterback back, Hopefully Chris Carson is healthier. Everyone
- 23:50Speaker 1: starts to figure out who they are, and you get going.
- 23:53Speaker 1: It gonna be a huge game on Monday, Oh, no
- 23:55Speaker 1: question about it. It's gonna be back at Loumanfield. The
- 23:57Speaker 1: Seahawks have lost two games at home in the winfield.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I don't think there's ever been a time in Russell
- 24:02Speaker 1: Wilson's career heating them have been together. If they've lost
- 24:05Speaker 1: three games in a row at Louminfield. So hopefully the
- 24:07Speaker 1: tide changes there. And you mentioned it backs up against
- 24:10Speaker 1: the wall. If they need to come out and need
- 24:11Speaker 1: to make plays. They have an extra day this week
- 24:13Speaker 1: of practice in preparation. You figure out a way to
- 24:15Speaker 1: win this game, you win the next game. You're four
- 24:17Speaker 1: and four going into the bye. Maybe get Russell and
- 24:19Speaker 1: now you can find a way to put some wins together.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Maybe you find a way to get to eleven wins,
- 24:24Speaker 1: get back to the playoffs. But none of that matters
- 24:26Speaker 1: unless you don't get it done on Monday night football,
- 24:28Speaker 1: so it should be a good contest. Looking forward to it,
- 24:32Speaker 1: all right. Seahawks lose to the Steelers twenty three to
- 24:35Speaker 1: twenty in overtime. Genio Smith Battles just comes up a
- 24:38Speaker 1: bit short. That was all talk on Michael Bump as
- 24:40Speaker 1: he is an asked to Choby, thanks for listening. To
- 24:42Speaker 1: talk to you guys soon.
