- 1:12No, but we did an episode on that once.
- 1:16You remember that?
- 1:17Remember that title or like I do now?
- 1:19Yeah, maybe it's because I played that game. I don't know, a group of us.
- 1:22I went to a church retreat and they played that game.
- 1:25I was like, whoa, this isn't really kosher for our church retreat.
- 1:27Cover your assets.
- 1:29I'm just kidding. Anyways, my kids love it. It's fun.
- 1:31It's a very simple but fun game.
- 1:33But you said assets that got me thinking.
- 1:35And now we're on a tangent. But.
- 1:36Hello everybody.
- 1:39Glad to have you.
- 1:41We're just going to dive right in a fun topic,
- 1:43I think, this morning, that maybe you've wrestled with.
- 1:47We're going to be talking about the top three hardest business decisions to make.
- 1:52So today you're going to be sharing that with us.
- 1:53But before we do, let's talk about Spiro updates.
- 1:56What's going on with the software.
- 1:59Yeah, I'm going to go to the event.
- 2:00So it's part of the software.
- 2:02We are actually the first software to create our own event.
- 2:06It's called the Spiro Sync and tickets are on sale.

- 2:33and you grow with community.

- 3:01for that reason because we want time with you all.
- 3:04All right.
- 3:04So Spiro.media click Spiro sync.
- 3:07Craig let's just jump right in.
- 3:09we're working on.
- 3:11We're working on a few cool things.
- 3:12in Spiro that's going to bring you more CRM functionality to help you sell.
- 3:16It's about 4 to 5 weeks away.
- 3:19We'll talk about it in in the coming weeks.
- 3:21Excellent, excellent.
- 3:23All right.
- 3:24Well let's let's get to business here then.
- 3:27And business decisions ultimately, I think one of the most
- 3:31challenging things I've ever done in my life was start my own business.
- 3:36Back in 2017.
- 3:38Todd, I was scared to death.
- 3:40I'm. I'm not a risk taker by, by default.
- 3:44And the idea of starting my own business was both,
- 3:48exhilarating and and absolutely
- 3:51petrifying because, you know,
- 3:54I always had the the security blanket of working for an employer.
- 3:58Right.
- 3:59And but I got to the point in my life, in my career
- 4:03where I was like, I just need to to challenge myself.
- 4:06I need some freedom.
- 4:08I need to know if I can do this or not.
- 4:11And the the potential,
- 4:14for moving ahead
- 4:15financially and doing something that I really enjoyed
- 4:19was a great motivator to to take that risk.
- 4:23And it didn't hurt that my wife supported that and said, if if this is where God's
- 4:28leading and, you know, in your business and your career, I'll support it.
- 4:32And I and I Todd, I couldn't be more thankful for that.
- 4:34That alone was was a huge boost.
- 4:37But in making that decision to move out on my own
- 4:40and start my own business, I suddenly had to face some very,
- 4:44very hard and challenging decisions. And,
- 4:48questions.
- 4:49And, you know, how do I do this?
- 4:50What's my next step?
- 4:52It just got me thinking, you know, you've had 20 plus years
- 4:55of of running your own business. And I've wondered.
- 4:58Thanks for aging me, Craig.
- 5:01I didn't say how old.
- 5:02I'm older than you are. Right. But.
- 5:05So anyway, I just started wondering this morning.
- 5:09I was like, I wonder what the hardest decisions are that Todd has faced.
- 5:12You know, in in starting and growing
- 5:15Wow video tours and ultimately Spiro as well.
- 5:18So let's just dive in the top three hardest decisions.
- 5:22Todd what what if those decisions have been?
- 5:26And can you walk us through how you navigated making those decisions?
- 5:31I'd love to. Craig.
- 5:32You know, as I look back over the 20 something years of being in business,
- 5:36business is hard.
- 5:39But, you know, I actually I think the longer I'm in business,
- 5:42I and in life, I just developed this desire
- 5:46to want to conquer hard.
- 5:49I had a coach and I can't
- 5:52not a
- 5:52personal coach by I read this quote and I can't remember who was from,
- 5:56but they said, if you do
- 6:00easy in life, life will become hard.
- 6:04If you do hard, life will become easy.
- 6:09You know, if you think about it,
- 6:10if you're like, hey, I just want everything to be easy.
- 6:14How much capacity for problem
- 6:17solving, for communication, for all of those things
- 6:20will you actually gain if you just do easy things?
- 6:25If you do hard, you,
- 6:29how many of you out there have done hard?
- 6:30I know you guys have, I hear you, I talk to you daily.
- 6:34You're doing hard out there and if you do hard, you get better
- 6:40and life becomes easy.
- 6:42There's things that we do at Wow every day.
- 6:46Wow. And Spiro every day
- 6:49that were almost impassable.
- 6:53Task when Todd was in year one of business, year
- 6:58five of business, year ten and 15 of business.
- 7:02Okay, so you have to have this desire to want to do hard.
- 7:06A hard thing to do is the first of the three hardest business decisions.
- 7:11Is betting on yourself.
- 7:15You've you've Craig, you talked like you took
- 7:18you went all in and you bet on yourself.
- 7:22That's not easy.
- 7:24That's not easy to have the comfort of a job.
- 7:28And maybe it's even a job you hate,
- 7:31but it's still comfortable, right?
- 7:34You know what to expect.
- 7:36You know what you're going to make.
- 7:38You know it's consistent.
- 7:42And taking that leap of faith
- 7:45into the unknown is difficult.
- 7:52I think for me. Todd,
- 7:55the the
- 7:56decision to do that, that, that, that fear that I had
- 7:59was largely tied to just a lot of self insecurity,
- 8:03a low self-image.
- 8:05I've, I dealt with that a good chunk of my life,
- 8:07and it's still a struggle from time to time.
- 8:11But you eventually get to a point in life where, at least for me, this
- 8:16this was a lesson I learned when I worked at Cherry Street Mission in Toledo,
- 8:20where we served, people, people experiencing homelessness.
- 8:24Our executive director shared this maxim with us that sticks with me this day.
- 8:29And it's the people will not change until the pain
- 8:33of staying the same outweighs the pain of change.
- 8:37Oh, and I say that.
- 8:39I say that again, Craig.
- 8:41People will not change until the pain of staying
- 8:45the same is greater than the pain of the change.
- 8:50And that's where I
- 8:51got to, despite my insecurities to say, despite my self doubt,
- 8:56the pain of staying the same was getting to be too much.
- 9:00And I saw the potential.
- 9:02I saw at least the potential for being able
- 9:06to move ahead in life financially otherwise.
- 9:09And I thought
- 9:11I had just a chance.
- 9:13I have to take I I've got to make this decision.
- 9:15So that was the impetus for me to make that change.
- 9:18I was like, I'm tired of experiencing what I'm experiencing right now.
- 9:23Yeah, I, I love that Craig.
- 9:25That is that is ultimately where we go to,
- 9:29you know, that,
- 9:31there's a couple of rock bottoms, like stories that I have throughout my life.
- 9:36And like, that sparked change. And.
- 9:41And that completely played true
- 9:43with the idea, like, hey, it was more painful to be in where I'm at
- 9:47than taking the risk of of changing and being something new.
- 9:51And I want to make sure that I'm clear on this, that this is not just
- 9:57the listeners out there who say,
- 10:00I want to get into real estate media.
- 10:03This exist every day.
- 10:05You should be examining this every day in your business.
- 10:09Okay.
- 10:09So you know, the Large one, the idea of like, let's the Cortez,
- 10:13let's burn the ships. We're going all in.
- 10:16That's just the first example.
- 10:19I think.
- 10:19I see companies struggle more and I see myself with
- 10:25stagnant growth over the years.
- 10:28When I didn't examine that question on a day to day basis.
- 10:34So the easiest example, Craig, is
- 10:40you start your business,
- 10:41things are going well and you are your business,
- 10:44and you begin to get more business than what you can
- 10:48handle.
- 10:51Okay.
- 10:52You come to this pivotal, scary moment of
- 10:57having to hire somebody.
- 11:01Okay, now let's talk through the idea of having to hire someone.
- 11:04For those of you that haven't hired, I was terrified of hiring the first time.
- 11:10Even the 10th time.
- 11:12Okay, it gets a little like, hey, I'm going to pay some money,
- 11:16but let's talk about the breakdown of hiring a photographer.
- 11:20You're hiring a photographer because you have too many jobs coming in.
- 11:26Then you can actually perform.
- 11:28So it's a pretty safe bet, y'all.
- 11:31Like when your photographer works,
- 11:35they are out there
- 11:37making money, but you are making money.
- 11:40Okay, that's a relatively safe bet.
- 11:44And that is something that you have to examine.
- 11:47Hiring a second photographer.
- 11:50So let
- 11:51me let me ask just to clarify, is, is that a part of then
- 11:54betting on yourself, the decision to bet on other people
- 11:58or make those investments
- 12:00100% Craig.
- 12:02Because you have to bet on yourself that you have the
- 12:06that you are confident in moving forward.
- 12:10There's so much that comes in that
- 12:11when you bring someone onto your team, when you bring a photographer on,
- 12:15like, you can't be like, you have to have some sort of confidence in it.
- 12:19Like, who's going to say, yes, I'm going to come
- 12:21join your team, and I might make $6,000 this year.
- 12:26You know, like some of the people that joined Wow throughout the years,
- 12:30like, I, I'm so thankful that they did like they they took a flier from me.
- 12:36They.
- 12:38Yeah.
- 12:39We're not perfect by any means a hiring.
- 12:41But when they come in we have an established business.
- 12:43We know what a pay scale is.
- 12:44We know where they're starting, where they could go.
- 12:46We know job title descriptions like we've figured some of these things out.
- 12:50I think about the first person I hired is like
- 12:53like, I would love to go back and I wish I had
- 12:57footage of me holding that interview.
- 13:01Yeah, I bet, like,
- 13:03I think I would just sit there for the hour that I probably yap
- 13:06and just cringe the entire time about the interview
- 13:10and be like, how did this person
- 13:12actually think that it was a good idea
- 13:15to stop working where they were working and take a bet on Todd?
- 13:20You know,
- 13:21that'd be a good topic for us to hear how to interview.
- 13:26Yeah, I think so.
- 13:28If you if you like to know that, just comment below.
- 13:31Email us. Hello@spiro.media.
- 13:33We always want to give you guys what you need out there, and we're always
- 13:37happy to share with what we do and what we've seen to be successful.
- 13:41Cool.
- 13:42Okay, just an aside there.
- 13:44Okay. All right.
- 13:45Well, yeah.
- 13:46So number one, top three hardest business decisions.
- 13:50Betting on yourself, especially if you have low self-esteem like me.
- 13:55It can be a hard thing, to trust yourself and.
- 14:00Yeah, to bet on yourself.
- 14:02Excellent to top so that that idea of of hiring somebody that kind of relates
- 14:06to the top number two, top hardest decision to make in hiring people.
- 14:12So you want to kind of walk us through that.
- 14:15It does it.
- 14:16It's it's a different hire Craig.
- 14:18This is
- 14:20at least for me, I brought on photographers.
- 14:23I had probably three photographers
- 14:26and I brought them on, and I got comfortable with that because
- 14:29I had the comfort of jobs coming in and actually
- 14:32the pain of saying no or the pain of agents
- 14:37being frustrated
- 14:38that we were a week out, two weeks booked out,
- 14:41that was greater than the risk of me having to bring on a photographer
- 14:46and come completely different for my first high level employee.
- 14:53Okay,
- 14:54I talked about this,
- 14:56this hiring process a little bit last week and episode on Faith.
- 15:00And if you haven't heard that story, please
- 15:03go back, because I struggle with this one and I put it off for a long time.
- 15:07It was that painful for me was this idea of, I need to hire
- 15:11someone that's going to help me with
- 15:15low level task or mid-level task
- 15:18that is not doing the actual filming of the properties.
- 15:23So this was my first admin.
- 15:27So kind of the idea of hiring up
- 15:30for a position that doesn't have a direct correlation to income
- 15:35exactly
- 15:37Yes, exactly. So if we think about it.
- 15:40So if you're a if you're a math brain or you like numbers, which you all should,
- 15:44we all should. I know some of you're like, no.
- 15:46But like if you're the owner, if you're the CEO of your company,
- 15:49you should know and and get the like these things.
- 15:52So a pnl a profit and loss statement.
- 15:56You have revenue at the top minus cost of goods sold.
- 16:00Your photographers are part of cost of goods.
- 16:03Okay, that was a that I got used to that
- 16:06that's an easier bet because I had goods that were wanted.
- 16:10Thus I was selling goods.
- 16:12That's me taking a little bit of money off of that made sense.
- 16:16Like, hey, I'll pay someone to go to the shoot.
- 16:18Especially I'm losing business.
- 16:20When you bring in the
- 16:24salary or the wages for an employee,
- 16:28underneath that,
- 16:31inside of all of your other categories.
- 16:34Okay.
- 16:35After gross profit in between.
- 16:38Net profit. Okay.
- 16:40The gross profit is not the net profit.
- 16:43And everything in between there is taking away
- 16:45from what you put in your pocket what your business makes.
- 16:48That was a much more difficult decision for me because I couldn't say, hey,
- 16:52I'm going to hire this person.
- 16:53They're going to do ten shoots this week,
- 16:55and I'm actually going to make more money than I'm spending. Hey,
- 17:00it's a little bit different because you have to say, hey,
- 17:02I'm going to hire this person.
- 17:04And one, I feel confident that
- 17:07I can go find a person.
- 17:11Two, I feel confident that I can
- 17:15articulate
- 17:16and list out what this person's going to do, what it's going to,
- 17:20how they're going to show success, or how they will find success at your business.
- 17:26Three that I can actually convince the person to say yes to the job
- 17:31before I can onboard, I can train the employee.
- 17:34I can train this person. I can set proper expectations.
- 17:37I can pass my knowledge to my what's in my head, to their head,
- 17:42and then I can walk them through a process to make them successful.
- 17:46Over a plan of 30, 60, 90 days.
- 17:50Create that seem like a mountain to me.
- 17:52Sure, sure.
- 17:54There's a lot, lot packed in there.
- 17:57Oh, I screwed it up for a lot of years, Craig.
- 18:01And that that goes back to number one.
- 18:04I. You have
- 18:05to be confident in betting on yourself to take that risk and say, hey,
- 18:10I'm going to like, yeah, I don't know what to do,
- 18:14but I know that the pain of not doing something is greater than the pain
- 18:19of making the wrong decision.
- 18:22That's an interesting twist to that.
- 18:26Just so the willingness to take that risk
- 18:28of making mistakes.
- 18:31Exactly.
- 18:31Yeah. Exactly.
- 18:33As owners I think we get this owner mentality that
- 18:36well I don't know about you all but I like I, I don't make any mistakes.
- 18:41Like I think back over the first
- 18:42five years of business, Craig I don't know that I made one mistake in my brain.
- 18:46That's a mistake I made three, I made 3 million, but
- 18:50it's just again, if if you get in this mode
- 18:52of wanting to bet on yourself, you have to have a confidence
- 18:56and not a blind confidence, but you have to be confident that
- 18:59what you're doing, you're moving forward and you're not focused on those mistakes.
- 19:03Yeah, I think that's what it was. Craig is I just
- 19:06I analyze the mistakes in sync.
- 19:09I didn't harp on them.
- 19:10I fixed them and I evolved.
- 19:13I saw it as an evolution of Todd, not as like
- 19:17the downfall of the business, if that makes sense.
- 19:21Sure, sure.
- 19:24So going through hiring my first admin, and again, if you haven't listened to last
- 19:30week's podcast, go back and laugh at me through this process of hiring on Derek.
- 19:35It was a no brainer.
- 19:36And like I still hesitated with it.
- 19:39And what that means is six months from then, 12 months from then, 24 months
- 19:44from them, then you will actually see that return on your investment.
- 19:49Okay.
- 19:49The more clear you are with the job description, the more clear you are
- 19:53with the goals, the better the person that you're able to attract and hire.
- 19:59The quicker you get to that pay off. Yeah.
- 20:02But I think
- 20:03the key in that is going into that decision to to invest that money
- 20:08in a, say, a non-revenue generating role is know exactly what you need
- 20:13out of that role so that you can focus on other revenue generating activities.
- 20:19Exactly, Craig.
- 20:20And that is where I love the idea of doing a time study.
- 20:24This has to do with.
- 20:24If you haven't listened to our guide on doing a time study, please
- 20:28go back and find those podcast,
- 20:29because there's three levels of where you spend your time as a coach.
- 20:34Taught me what we categorize
- 20:37as admin, nurse and doctor, if you think about it.
- 20:41And in a medical terminology,
- 20:46you have to be confident that the doctor activities are going
- 20:49to move your business along further, that you're willing to invest
- 20:54in someone doing the admin and then and the nurse activities,
- 20:59because you just need to value your time in getting to the doctor activities right?
- 21:06Right.
- 21:08Okay.
- 21:09So number one, betting on yourself,
- 21:12one of the top three hardest business decisions.
- 21:15You got to get started somewhere.
- 21:16So you got to bet on yourself to start.
- 21:19Number two let's let's encapsulate number two
- 21:22in the hard decision of spending money to make money.
- 21:28Yeah that a fair way to summarize what we just talked about okay.
- 21:31It is. Yeah okay.
- 21:34So there's top two.
- 21:37What's number three hardest
- 21:38is you look back on on while video tours and even Spyro.
- 21:42What's been the third hardest business decision you've had to make.
- 21:46Yeah the third one.
- 21:47And it segues from the idea of knowing
- 21:51am I spending my time on admin, nurse or doctor activities?
- 21:56Is choosing focus over noise
- 22:00okay, okay.
- 22:03As you grow a business, Craig,
- 22:06there is more and more noise.
- 22:08What I would call noise.
- 22:10Okay, so
- 22:13when we were doing
- 22:15five shoots a day,
- 22:18there was probably a good amount of days
- 22:21until we had someone unhappy or some an A client needing something.
- 22:27Okay.
- 22:27So that you're, you're always you're, we are all in a customer service business
- 22:31okay. It's a service business we run.
- 22:33Yes we deliver a product but we're in a customer service business.
- 22:38And when you're doing, you know,
- 22:411 to 5 shoots a day, especially if it's you,
- 22:46there's not a lot of that noise from a customer service perspective.
- 22:50Okay.
- 22:51Let's fast forward Wow doing 100 shoots a day okay.
- 22:56That is two months, three months
- 23:00worth of wow, 15 years ago.
- 23:04Okay.
- 23:05And one day, one day we did three months.
- 23:07What we used to do 15 years ago.
- 23:10So naturally. And one day
- 23:13you're going to have needs problems Gaps I like to call them come in.
- 23:19And I don't want you to get in the trap
- 23:23of sitting in all of those problems.
- 23:27Oh but that's so easy to do.
- 23:31It is because we've learned as business owners that when you take
- 23:35really good care of your clients,
- 23:38they are loyal, they stick with you.
- 23:41They refer you all of the above.
- 23:43They help your business grow.
- 23:45Our number one core value.
- 23:47Wow is clients are our number one priority.
- 23:52So we think it's the most important thing.
- 23:56But I don't spend
- 23:59any time in the exact situations.
- 24:03On a day of 100 shoots, we're going to have 5 or 10 people that need something.
- 24:08They're going to range from, can you remove this item?
- 24:12Do you have an angle of this bedroom?
- 24:14Is this color tone is off.
- 24:17Where is my this or where is my that?
- 24:19How do I do the download page?
- 24:21What's the unbranded link? Can you use that?
- 24:24Right Craig.
- 24:25It's infinite right?
- 24:27You know we have a large team at Wow that deals
- 24:30with that noise every day and they're fabulous at it.
- 24:35But I have to choose
- 24:37to not go into their world.
- 24:42There's a couple things here.
- 24:43One, when Todd goes into their world,
- 24:46he disrupts everything.
- 24:52Two Todd
- 24:54becomes a crutch for their decisions on how to
- 25:00follow our core values
- 25:02and ultimately take care of the client.
- 25:06I don't want that.
- 25:07I want to empower those employees.
- 25:10They are hired and they are on the team because they are good at that.
- 25:16They are good at what they do.
- 25:17So when Todd goes up there, he makes it.
- 25:20Everybody second guess if they're doing the right thing, okay.
- 25:25And a very easy decision for them
- 25:28becomes a very difficult situation.
- 25:31It's pressure right.
- 25:33It's difficult to perform under pressure.
- 25:37Absolutely.
- 25:37Now now the flip side of that is when I am up there, you know, I,
- 25:44I could sell it as one.
- 25:45I'm building some relationships with them like I'm building team.
- 25:49I'm they're getting a little bit of Todd two like
- 25:52I might be able to educate them on something here and there.
- 25:55You know, even if someone's been here I think Brittany's been here eight years.
- 25:59Like, I, if I spend a day or two with her, I'm probably going to be able
- 26:03to show her something that might make her
- 26:07one quarter of 1% better. So
- 26:12and this is where the problem comes in.
- 26:14Craig Todd had to spend three days with Brittany to make her one quarter
- 26:18of 1% better, versus Todd spending three days to move the business along.
- 26:26Yeah,
- 26:27that's what you all have to choose out there.
- 26:30You have to say no to the noise.
- 26:33If you make something one quarter of 1% better,
- 26:38it is not worth your time.
- 26:41You are doing more of a disservice
- 26:43because that employee is like, well, now I need Todd to make this decision.
- 26:47I wonder if he wants me to make this one quarter of 1% better.
- 26:51Are you striving for perfection?
- 26:56Please don't do that. I.
- 26:59I did that for far too many years and it plateaued.
- 27:03The growth of our business,
- 27:06I'm just I'm thinking about the differences between you and I
- 27:08because I, I faced some of the, you know, some of what you're talking about
- 27:12right now when I had my own real estate media business.
- 27:16And people are wired for different, different gifts,
- 27:19you know, different different abilities.
- 27:21And not not everybody is called to be an outfront type of leader, visionary.
- 27:27Get the big picture.
- 27:28Some of us really do like just being hands on with with the tasks.
- 27:32And ultimately that's what I discovered about
- 27:33myself, is I, I would rather be in the day to day,
- 27:37you know, serving people, shooting the pictures, doing the,
- 27:42you know, the business development activities, meeting with the realtors
- 27:45and being out in the field doing those things rather
- 27:48than being removed and having to build trust in, in employees
- 27:53to, to make those decisions that I really I don't have time for.
- 27:57I like the day to day stuff.
- 27:59And so I had to make the decision in my career
- 28:02to step out of more of that ownership role
- 28:05and more into a support type of role and production type of role.
- 28:10And that's okay.
- 28:11We're all wired different,
- 28:13but if if you've been called and you have the gifting to lead
- 28:17and to start a business and and and grow that business,
- 28:22I think it
- 28:23goes back to that number one bet on yourself.
- 28:28You have to bet on yourself
- 28:29to be able to do number three, choosing the focus over the noise.
- 28:32They're all tied together, Todd.
- 28:35They really are.
- 28:37So it's a bit of a trick.
- 28:38There wasn't really three.
- 28:39Like it's all in one.
- 28:42But if you can figure this out
- 28:46and if you can choose the focus,
- 28:49if you can bet on yourself.
- 28:53And if you're okay spending a little bit of money
- 28:55to get it back later, you can grow an incredible business.
- 29:01So I just want to end with a quick
- 29:04I just want to end with just a quick perspective.
- 29:07And I am not going to tell you all the stats to gloat
- 29:12or to make you feel pressure, but
- 29:16I want to show you what you can grow to.
- 29:19it is possible.
- 29:23Even in
- 29:242025, it is possible you I have some of you
- 29:27a lot of like hey, is real estate media going to be around in five years?
- 29:30Yes, it's going to be around in five years.
- 29:32We were asking that question in 2006.
- 29:36We asked it again five years later.
- 29:38Five years after that.
- 29:40We've asked that question every year.
- 29:44Good business owners
- 29:47find a way to pivot and grow,
- 29:50in any environment.
- 29:54Okay.
- 29:54So what you can get to is when you master this, you can and you don't even have to.
- 29:59I don't have it, master, by any means, but I practice it and we focus on it.
- 30:05I don't do it.
- 30:07Hardly anything at Wow anymore.
- 30:10Okay, so this is year 22
- 30:13and I don't do much out wow anymore.
- 30:16And we've found a way to attract great people.
- 30:21We've been okay spending money to make money.
- 30:26And I have figured out and the team has talked about what
- 30:30they are really good at and what where they can bring the most value.
- 30:34We have people overall in the right places.
- 30:39Okay, so we're moving the boat forward
- 30:42and this year has been a great year at Wow.
- 30:47Okay, so there is the ability to grow.
- 30:50I think many of you knew that 2023 was a terrible year.
- 30:53I've told the story.
- 30:54If you haven't heard it, please go back and listen to it.
- 30:58We did hard in 2023.
- 31:012024 was a rebound year.
- 31:03We got really focused, really lean
- 31:06and it was our best year ever.
- 31:10I was I was really hands on in 23 and 24.
- 31:1625 comes along.
- 31:18Todd gets out of Wow almost entirely.
- 31:22Okay, I have a couple means with the leaders.
- 31:24I'm all morning meeting. I try to bring some culture.
- 31:26I want people you know, I want to be accessible,
- 31:28but I don't make any decisions. I don't.
- 31:30I haven't talked to a realtor this year.
- 31:35Maybe one.
- 31:36Craig, I don't want a lot.
- 31:37I mean, that made our largest client.
- 31:40I met with him at the beginning of the year.
- 31:41Yeah,
- 31:43but my point is, is the team
- 31:45has found a way.
- 31:49To up our best year ever
- 31:52by almost 30%.
- 31:56That's you Craig.
- 31:57It's the team like we're going to do.
- 31:59And again, I don't say this to gloat
- 32:01or put pressure on you, but I want you to know what's possible.
- 32:04We're going to be up
- 32:05three quarters of $1 million this year over our best year ever last year.
- 32:10So so I say that because
- 32:14and I say this from love with my heart.
- 32:18You've got to get rid of your own
- 32:19excuses.
- 32:23That was one of the hardest things for me to hear.
- 32:25I had a coach tell me I had it come to me like I saw.
- 32:30Like Todd was really good at believing his own excuses.
- 32:35And if you want your
- 32:36business to grow, you have to get rid of that.
- 32:40You've got to bet on yourself.
- 32:42You've got to be willing to spend some money and and get it back later.
- 32:47And you most importantly, if you do those two things,
- 32:50you have to focus on what's going to move your business along the furthest.
- 32:56That will get you to your goals.
- 32:58Remember, you started this business for you.
- 33:01You started this business to not work a job that you hate.
- 33:04You started this business because you wanted to spend more time
- 33:07with your family.
- 33:08Be home on the weekends, be home on the evenings.
- 33:10You know why you started this business?
- 33:13I was thinking exactly that as you were kind of starting to summarize things.
- 33:17It goes it all goes back to why you start a business.
- 33:21And as you've shared in the past, you start a business to make the business
- 33:25work for you.
- 33:26This is not working for you.
- 33:27You're, you're not hitting what your ultimate primary goal was exactly.
- 33:33If you, if you come to work every day
- 33:36and you are beginning to hate what you're doing,
- 33:40if, if you get angry
- 33:42because a realtor wants a lower price, once a color
- 33:47less yellow, once more contrast in a video,
- 33:52you've got to ask yourself
- 33:54some tough questions.
- 33:56Okay, you might need a refresh.
- 33:59Some of you might need a vacation.
- 34:03You might just need a break from it.
- 34:05You know, I can think, but you know, I'm going to take a break
- 34:07here in a couple of days.
- 34:08We all get if the hair on your back stands up because an agent wants
- 34:12a more contrast in a photo, like, you probably need to take a break.
- 34:19Yeah.
- 34:21Or you or you need to you're focused on the wrong thing.
- 34:24You're focused on the noise and you're not focused on the bigger things.
- 34:29Don't be surprised.
- 34:30I coach a guy coach with names Jimmy Bright
- 34:34a good friend of mine okay.
- 34:37He helps me coach. We go to church together.
- 34:39He he's a very wise individual.
- 34:44He always urges our kids.
- 34:46His kids.
- 34:46And I take this from him to not be surprised.
- 34:52Yeah.
- 34:52I remember you talking about this before.
- 34:55Don't be surprised that an agent wants something cheaper
- 34:59when you're not surprised by it.
- 35:01You can handle that with grace.
- 35:04You can handle that calmly,
- 35:05and then you can get back to what's actually going to move your business long.
- 35:09The furthest you know,
- 35:13good stuff.
- 35:13The top three hardest business decisions you have to make you master.
- 35:17These three things.
- 35:19You've got a healthy business and and healthy growth Todd thank you.
- 35:23Appreciate it. Yeah.
- 35:24My pleasure.
- 35:24You know Craig I'm going to ask something from our listeners okay.
- 35:27Don't do this a lot.
- 35:27But I'm going to ask them,
- 35:30can can you all share.
- 35:31Because I believe in community.
- 35:33I believe in it more and more every day.
- 35:35Like I told my wife a week ago, like,
- 35:39I really feel like relationships are the most important thing in life.
- 35:44Yeah.
- 35:45And honestly, like, it gets me emotional because I'm so passionate about it
- 35:49and I've seen how much it can move
- 35:52people out of a dark spot into a good spot.
- 35:56Can you please.
- 35:56I'm just.
- 35:57When did you what noise were you confused by?
- 36:01Or fooled you for a while that you eventually chose
- 36:04to focus on something bigger?
- 36:06Can you all share?
- 36:07I'd love us to share as a community these things, and I'd love
- 36:11you guys to say, hey,
- 36:14you and I are in the same stage.
- 36:17Or maybe you're one stage ahead of me.
- 36:19Look, let's zoom on Tuesday evenings, okay?
- 36:22That's my goal for you.
- 36:24I love that you guys hop on here and listen to Craig and I like.
- 36:27I think you guys will find something in community with each other.
- 36:31And if we can get comments going on this on YouTube.
- 36:36In the comments below, I want you guys to talk to.
- 36:39We're all out there doing this, and you don't have to do it on an island.
- 36:43I would love you guys to comment.
- 36:44Craig and I will participate, and I hope that you guys find 2
- 36:48or 3 other people that you can do community lift with.
- 36:52Excuse me so that you can give some perspective to each other,
- 36:55and you guys can be an encouraging group to grow your businesses along.
- 37:01I think that's kind of key.
- 37:02I, I have a heart for pastors of churches.
- 37:06Because I've, I've worked in that world
- 37:08in Christian radio for so long, and I met with a lot of pastors, and I saw
- 37:13and this I think, is this true across the board for leaders in general.
- 37:16But I solve loneliness.
- 37:18They feel lonely at the top, leading where they're leading. Yes.
- 37:23And I've experienced that myself in past leadership roles I've had.
- 37:27And by nature I'm an introvert.
- 37:30But even introverts need community, even if it's just 2 or 3 other people like you.
- 37:35Like you said, you know, get together with 2 or 3 other people
- 37:39and have that ongoing conversation and I told my wife,
- 37:43just in the last three months, I, I miss hanging out with guys.
- 37:48I'm so busy with work.
- 37:49And I stepped back from some things that are church,
- 37:53but I've been kind of on my own.
- 37:55And when I'm on my own,
- 37:57even though I kind of get refreshed by it in some ways, I also discovered
- 38:02that's a
- 38:03dangerous place to be when you're by yourself.
- 38:06And so I was talking with a friend of mine at our campground that happened
- 38:09to go to church with as well, and I kind of shared that, that struggle.
- 38:12And like, I just need to get together with guys on a more regular basis.
- 38:15He's like, I'm game.
- 38:16If you want to get together for dinner
- 38:17once a month, maybe we can invite our or another friend of ours that we both had
- 38:21that we're all busy with work, we're all about the same age,
- 38:25but we realize we need to carve out that time for community.
- 38:28So last night, Todd, we went to Penn Station, you know, and,
- 38:32in a nearby town, it just got together and we're making it a monthly cadence.
- 38:36Now, it's once a month on our Thursday night, we get together for dinner.
- 38:39We just we just talk about anything.
- 38:42You know?
- 38:43It's just getting together with other people and sharpening each other and.
- 38:46And not isolating ourselves.
- 38:48So we we think that's that's key for, for all leaders
- 38:52and owners that are watching and listening to this right now.
- 38:56Agreed? Agreed.
- 38:57I love that Craig.
- 38:58It it can feel very lonely at the top. Yeah.
- 39:00And I've felt that many times over the years and,
- 39:06a community is
- 39:07going to help you move along out of that.
- 39:11And you could, you can get some insight on some of these hard decisions.
- 39:14You have to
- 39:15you have to face
- 39:15maybe you've got a community where they've got some experience in this pick
- 39:19their brains, you know, don't don't try and make those decisions on your own.
- 39:23On your own.
- 39:24There's there's wisdom in a multitude of counselors.
- 39:27Now, sometimes those counselors get a little crazy, but,
- 39:30you know, you have got to choose who the right counselors are, right?
- 39:34Yeah. That's, Anyway, good.
- 39:36Good stuff. Todd. Thank you.
- 39:37I appreciate that.
- 39:40All right, well, that's going to wrap things up this week.
- 39:44You've probably faced these decisions yourself.
- 39:46Hopefully some of this insight Todd has shared is, going to help you
- 39:49navigate through those decisions that you might be facing right now.
- 39:53But like, like you said, share, share some of those things
- 39:56that you've been dealing with in the comments on YouTube.
- 39:59Feel free to drop us an email as well.
- 40:02We we'd love to hear from you, interact with you.
- 40:04We really do enjoy that.
- 40:05And our email is just hello@spiro.media
- 40:09Todd, if you have nothing else.
- 40:13I think I'll wrap up.
- 40:14Yeah. Take us home, Craig.
- 40:16All right.
- 40:17Well, like we say every week,
- 40:19take the time to be thankful for the blessings in your life.
- 40:22And as the name Spiro suggests, make sure you take a breath.
- 40:25Have a great week.
