- 0:05Speaker 1: Today let's dive into stable coins. What this will unlock
- 0:08Speaker 1: in the economy and maybe in the future of everything
- 0:12Speaker 1: you can imagine. My name is Paul Barren. Welcome back
- 0:14Speaker 1: into tech path. Let's get into it today. I do
- 0:16Speaker 1: want to thank our sponsor and that is Coinbase. There's

- 0:38Speaker 1: for you, So check out our link below.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Use it.
- 0:41Speaker 1: It does help the channel to get started. Let's go
- 0:43Speaker 1: into a couple of points I want to jump into,
- 0:46Speaker 1: all right, So here's a tweet from Eleanor and this
- 0:48Speaker 1: is really getting into the Genius Act and just how
- 0:50Speaker 1: quickly this is moving through the administration. This is going
- 0:53Speaker 1: into a markup which is happening on Wednesday, and this
- 0:57Speaker 1: is positioned now to push through the House in the
- 1:00Speaker 1: Senate pretty quickly. So this is going to be faster,
- 1:02Speaker 1: maybe than what we initially thought. It's very possible we
- 1:05Speaker 1: could even have a vote on it this week. So
- 1:07Speaker 1: the other things I want to take a look at
- 1:09Speaker 1: is what does this mean to the rest of the industry,
- 1:12Speaker 1: primarily the financial industry. Well banks are starting to freak
- 1:15Speaker 1: out a little bit, as well as the NBC.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Take a look stable coin legislation. Today, President Trump said
- 1:22Speaker 3: that he wants a stable coin built on his desk soon.
- 1:24Speaker 2: He's got a lot going on with the tariffs.
- 1:26Speaker 3: I can't even imagine he wants to focus on stable coins. Congressmen,
- 1:28Speaker 3: what do you think happens to all of the big
- 1:30Speaker 3: credit card companies? For example, there is an effort, as
- 1:33Speaker 3: you know, by all of these startups to try to
- 1:35Speaker 3: upend the entire world with which your committee effectively oversees.
- 1:41Speaker 4: And now they may well migrated retail and wholesale on
- 1:45Speaker 4: a payment rail with a stable coin.
- 1:46Speaker 3: But the reason I asked the question is Bill, should
- 1:49Speaker 3: I be long visa or should I be short visa?
- 1:53Speaker 3: Some people are your stable coin works a visa?
- 1:56Speaker 2: Should it should?
- 1:57Speaker 3: Should their margin should come down?
- 1:58Speaker 5: And one of the lobbyists come to you and kind
- 2:00Speaker 5: of pressure.
- 2:01Speaker 4: My view is when you have a big brand name
- 2:03Speaker 4: like Visa or MasterCard that gives you a marketing advantage
- 2:06Speaker 4: to introduce a payment stable coin rail in your world,
- 2:09Speaker 4: and the same would be true for paypalas I think
- 2:12Speaker 4: you'll see bank and non bank competition here. Don't we
- 2:16Speaker 4: all throw it?
- 2:16Speaker 6: What do you hear from the banks, the credit card
- 2:19Speaker 6: companies and beyond.
- 2:20Speaker 4: What they want level of treatment.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Definitely, the impact that stable coins could have on MasterCard,
- 2:27Speaker 1: Visa America Express, anybody that's charging fees to retailers and
- 2:31Speaker 1: consumers to be able to utilize the service. And I
- 2:34Speaker 1: think that's where stable coin is really going to disrupt
- 2:36Speaker 1: a lot of this. We will see a lot of
- 2:38Speaker 1: fintech companies that are going to disrupt all of this,
- 2:41Speaker 1: so much so that even MasterCard themselves went out and
- 2:45Speaker 1: this happened today. During all of this is MasterCard is
- 2:48Speaker 1: working on a blockchain to connect trad fi and crypto,
- 2:51Speaker 1: so traditional finance and crypto. There was no real alignment
- 2:55Speaker 1: or even roadmap of how they were going to do it.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I think they were responding primary to the fact that
- 3:00Speaker 1: we are going to see a stable coin bill come
- 3:02Speaker 1: through pretty quickly. Let me go to this tweet right
- 3:04Speaker 1: here by Matt Hogan, let me kind of show you case.
- 3:06Speaker 1: This is in reference to Senator Jailbrand that made this statement,
- 3:10Speaker 1: do you want a stable coin issue to be able
- 3:11Speaker 1: to issue interest? Probably not, because if they're issuing interests,
- 3:14Speaker 1: there's no reason to put your money in a local bank.
- 3:16Speaker 7: Bank.
- 3:16Speaker 1: If there's no reason to put your money in a
- 3:18Speaker 1: local bank, who is going to give you a mortgage?
- 3:20Speaker 2: And that was the s point.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Does she really think that a free market will not
- 3:23Speaker 1: find a way to loan money to people who want
- 3:26Speaker 1: a house? And that's the point that I think a
- 3:28Speaker 1: lot of people are missing. The old guard doesn't really
- 3:32Speaker 1: understand the disruption that we are about to see. And
- 3:35Speaker 1: it's much like if you look at the early stages
- 3:37Speaker 1: of the Internet, mobile, social all of those disrupted you know,
- 3:41Speaker 1: areas of the not only the economy, but of the
- 3:44Speaker 1: business that we're already in place for decades, and I
- 3:47Speaker 1: think that's where we are today. Did the bank lobby
- 3:49Speaker 1: get involved? This was in reference to the whole issue
- 3:52Speaker 1: around stable coins, and the point that they're hitting on
- 3:55Speaker 1: right now is that you can't have stable coin issues
- 3:58Speaker 1: undercutting their measly deposit rate.
- 4:00Speaker 2: So This gets back to the.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Banks saying, hey, wait a minute, if stable coins can
- 4:04Speaker 1: now start to pay, we're going to lose all these deposits.
- 4:07Speaker 1: The likelihood is you're going to lose those deposits anyway.
- 4:10Speaker 1: The clear issue here is how are banks going to
- 4:13Speaker 1: implement this into their architecture. I think that's the question
- 4:17Speaker 1: everybody's asking. But remember that the bank's commercial banks donated
- 4:21Speaker 1: twenty three mil to elect Republicans last year, and when
- 4:26Speaker 1: you look at this, they ended up basically voting to
- 4:30Speaker 1: overturn the overdraft fee cap that was out there.
- 4:34Speaker 2: This is where I got a little bit.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Nasty, I think, in the sense that banks were able
- 4:38Speaker 1: to essentially push a lot of what's happening with the Republicans,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and really they were trying to position of why these
- 4:45Speaker 1: overdraft fees had to exist.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Take a look President and COO Lindsay Johnson make the argument,
- 4:53Speaker 3: Lindsay make the argument, this.
- 4:56Speaker 8: Is one of those services is offered by banks to
- 5:00Speaker 8: their customers as a courtesy really helping millions and millions
- 5:04Speaker 8: of consumers, thanks for innovating, And they were competing like
- 5:08Speaker 8: crazy to make this service more available and more cost
- 5:11Speaker 8: friendly for consumers.
- 5:12Speaker 7: As President I rise to talk in favor of my
- 5:16Speaker 7: cra on the overdraft fees, something called junk fees. Now,
- 5:21Speaker 7: some will say, what is an overdraft fee? You have
- 5:24Speaker 7: to pay a fee your bills are paid. Some people
- 5:29Speaker 7: use their overdraft option to pay their rent. You start
- 5:33Speaker 7: eliminating the possibility of people to make the decision to
- 5:39Speaker 7: continue to use overdraft in the most effective way.
- 5:45Speaker 1: This right now will be a pretty I think this
- 5:48Speaker 1: will end up being a very bad thing for banks.
- 5:51Speaker 1: It's going to push a lot of people away from banks,
- 5:53Speaker 1: possibly because I think the fees will go crazy, much
- 5:56Speaker 1: like what we've seen on interest rates within the credit
- 5:58Speaker 1: card side of things, upwards of thirty percent. Now, this
- 6:01Speaker 1: is the kind of issue that I think will factor
- 6:03Speaker 1: into a lot of decision making of how maybe this
- 6:05Speaker 1: next generation starts to do banking. If you look at
- 6:09Speaker 1: everybody that voted for this, every Republican senator except for
- 6:12Speaker 1: Josh Holly voted to strike down this bill. So this
- 6:16Speaker 1: was basically I think a sellout if you look at
- 6:18Speaker 1: everybody that was there. Let me go to a clip
- 6:21Speaker 1: right here. This is Holly talking and really grilling MasterCard
- 6:25Speaker 1: and Visa, so you can kind of see his position.
- 6:27Speaker 9: Take a look the rates that you charge merchants vary.
- 6:31Speaker 9: What do you charge Walmart?
- 6:32Speaker 8: We have a large business with Walmart.
- 6:34Speaker 9: What do you charge Walmart?
- 6:35Speaker 6: I don't have the information.
- 6:36Speaker 9: It's what do you charge Walmart?
- 6:38Speaker 8: Senators the city. I don't know what the Walmart rate.
- 6:40Speaker 6: Is Walmart's big customer.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Is it higher or lower than two and a half percent?
- 6:43Speaker 6: Walmart negotiates their rates based on the business that they
- 6:47Speaker 6: do with us.
- 6:47Speaker 8: We have volume discounts that we offer to some merchants.
- 6:51Speaker 9: If mister Callahan wants to get the Walmart deal, does
- 6:53Speaker 9: he have your phone number or know how to get
- 6:55Speaker 9: it and call you up and say, hey, let's make
- 6:56Speaker 9: a deal.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Can you call you?
- 6:58Speaker 6: I would welcome the opportunity to talk about mister Callahan,
- 7:01Speaker 6: please and connect him to third party secretary help.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Why is it that small businesses continue to use Visa
- 7:07Speaker 5: ed MasterCard?
- 7:08Speaker 2: In my opinion, it's a matter of convenience for the customer.
- 7:10Speaker 5: So, either you know what the average interest rate is
- 7:12Speaker 5: on your networks?
- 7:13Speaker 6: Senator, We're not the bank. We don't set the interchange.
- 7:15Speaker 5: I know you don't set that rate from it and
- 7:17Speaker 5: you know, do you know what it is? Twenty eight
- 7:20Speaker 5: point seven five percent average. It's nearly doubled in the
- 7:24Speaker 5: last four years. You've got debt like we've never seen
- 7:27Speaker 5: before in American history. The pandemic was difficult on small
- 7:31Speaker 5: business more than anyone. We lowered rates for ninety percent
- 7:34Speaker 5: of small businesses in the United States. Wait a minute,
- 7:36Speaker 5: but wait a minute, I'm hold on to a second.
- 7:39Speaker 5: You've increased the swipe fees consistently even as your profit
- 7:43Speaker 5: margins have gone up. You've raised the swipe fees, and
- 7:46Speaker 5: you're paying Apple and Square and others not to compete
- 7:49Speaker 5: in your market.
- 7:50Speaker 9: Visit Do's business right in the EU. Yes, So why
- 7:54Speaker 9: not have mister Callahan pay the lower rate. What's the problem, Senator?
- 7:57Speaker 6: We share your values in wanting to drive lower prices
- 8:01Speaker 6: for small bus You.
- 8:02Speaker 9: Are killing small business in the United States of America.
- 8:08Speaker 5: Cost to Missouri businesses from these fees is one and
- 8:11Speaker 5: a half billion dollars. That's with a b billion dollars
- 8:15Speaker 5: a year a year. This will not stand.
- 8:18Speaker 2: All right. So I lock Holly's position right there.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And this is the one that we argue quite a
- 8:22Speaker 1: bit because it is a problem I think in the
- 8:24Speaker 1: retail side. If it gets unlocked on the passing of
- 8:27Speaker 1: a stable cooin bill. This is what you're going to
- 8:29Speaker 1: start to see. Now, all of this most likely will reside.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Most of this will reside on ethereum, with Circle being
- 8:34Speaker 1: kind of the leader there. But if you look at
- 8:36Speaker 1: the unlock and where this potentially could be, it is
- 8:40Speaker 1: dramatic in terms of overall use case. And this is
- 8:43Speaker 1: where and why MasterCard, Visa and many others including banks
- 8:47Speaker 1: are so nervous right now, even though they've been raising
- 8:50Speaker 1: fees on merchant services and all those credit card fees,
- 8:53Speaker 1: gas fees on ethereum starting to fall. So imagine if
- 8:56Speaker 1: you were starting to accept things like that, especially on USD,
- 9:00Speaker 1: if you started to accept that you're bypassing a lot
- 9:02Speaker 1: of those merchant services fees the one point five billion
- 9:06Speaker 1: as Hollywood's kind of talking to. On another note, this
- 9:09Speaker 1: is of course looking at the decks trading shares to
- 9:12Speaker 1: ethereums ecosystem that has also been declining, which is positioning
- 9:15Speaker 1: eth even better, and obviously this will lead the way
- 9:18Speaker 1: I think overall on stable coins. Just in Circle also
- 9:21Speaker 1: minted another two hundred and fifty million of USDC on Salona,
- 9:25Speaker 1: so it's likely that they're anticipating a bit of an onboarding.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I want to go to a clip real quick because
- 9:31Speaker 1: this gets into who's going to benefit from a lot
- 9:33Speaker 1: of these scenarios that are going to play into stable
- 9:37Speaker 1: coin usage, especially around cross border payments.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Take a look, so you.
- 9:41Speaker 10: Want to send money from there to there? How is
- 9:43Speaker 10: that going to work in traditional payment systems? Well, first
- 9:46Speaker 10: the payer has to send to its bank, has to
- 9:49Speaker 10: put the money into its bank. Secondly, the money has
- 9:51Speaker 10: to move to an international correspondent bank. Then it will
- 9:55Speaker 10: engage inn FX trader foreign exchange trader to sell US
- 9:59Speaker 10: dollar and buy Korean one, and then that money is
- 10:03Speaker 10: deposited into the US correspondence bank account at the Korean
- 10:09Speaker 10: correspondent bank account. From there it goes to the payees bank,
- 10:13Speaker 10: and then finally the money gets to the paye.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Every step somebody gets paid.
- 10:17Speaker 7: Right.
- 10:17Speaker 10: No one's doing any of this, there's not volunteerer. Only
- 10:20Speaker 10: thirty seven percent of these international transactions have a cost
- 10:24Speaker 10: less than five percent, forty five percent have costs between
- 10:27Speaker 10: five and ten percent, and there are some that cost
- 10:29Speaker 10: a lot more ten percent between ten and fifteen and
- 10:32Speaker 10: a lot of stuff takes more than one day blockchain
- 10:34Speaker 10: has been used also finally in this situation, and that
- 10:37Speaker 10: happens instantaneously. So I'm gonna give two examples. One is
- 10:40Speaker 10: Ripple and one is jpm coin. I sell my US
- 10:43Speaker 10: dollars and I buy a token. It's token is called XRP,
- 10:47Speaker 10: and then all you do is you switch on the blockchain,
- 10:49Speaker 10: you switch the ownership to the person that's supposed to
- 10:51Speaker 10: get it, and that person sells the token for one
- 10:54Speaker 10: And this is public permissionless. So the other kind of
- 10:57Speaker 10: way this is being done, it is JP morgan coin,
- 10:59Speaker 10: for example. This is twenty twenty, so this is not
- 11:02Speaker 10: the blockchain dream. It's not public. The only people who
- 11:05Speaker 10: can play in this playground is JP Morgan and its clients.
- 11:09Speaker 2: This is a huge advancement.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I think that a lot of people are not ready
- 11:14Speaker 1: for just yet, and I think this is the key,
- 11:16Speaker 1: and the speed in which this is happening is a
- 11:19Speaker 1: big factor, and this is why I think Trump is
- 11:21Speaker 1: pushing so hard to get this approved so quickly. Let's
- 11:24Speaker 1: take a look at riusd this of course writing on
- 11:27Speaker 1: XRP ledger, and they printed another fifty mil and that
- 11:31Speaker 1: of course was done right there on ethereum. So again
- 11:35Speaker 1: you see the power of where and what this can
- 11:38Speaker 1: do in terms of the financial markets.
- 11:40Speaker 2: And I think this is the factor that's.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Going to play out very quickly and possibly cause this
- 11:45Speaker 1: massive uptrend in terms of adoption, which will open up
- 11:48Speaker 1: a lot more onboarding opportunities. Let's go over to the
- 11:51Speaker 1: chart real quick, and let's just take a look at
- 11:53Speaker 1: where XRP is holding right now.
- 11:56Speaker 2: That, of course is the XRP chart right there.
- 11:58Speaker 1: But if you look at ETH right now and you
- 12:00Speaker 1: look at that I have this on the monthly, when
- 12:02Speaker 1: you start to see this out, this may be the
- 12:04Speaker 1: bottom on ethereum. So again, all of this very positive
- 12:08Speaker 1: news for etherorem So if you're trying to play the
- 12:10Speaker 1: stable coin scenario here, Eth might be the play. All right, guys,
- 12:15Speaker 1: if you're not in the diamond circle, get in there
- 12:16Speaker 1: right now. It's a great place to get initial content
- 12:18Speaker 1: from us and off court. Of course, you can also
