- 0:00Speaker 1: And thank you so much for being here today. I
- 0:02Speaker 1: know it sounds like you have been incredibly busy at
- 0:04Speaker 1: the moment.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know what a privilege like. It's just
- 0:10Speaker 2: it's just it's just wild, you know. I think it's
- 0:15Speaker 2: I think it's so exciting and really fun and I
- 0:18Speaker 2: can't wait to come down there, so of course I
- 0:20Speaker 2: want to talk about it.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, wonderful. Do you want to know something funny?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Last night I had trouble sleeping because I was like,
- 0:27Speaker 3: I'm interviewing Gavin Rossdale. But I actually had a nightmare
- 0:32Speaker 3: that I couldn't get my words out and that you
- 0:34Speaker 3: up and left the interview.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So please don't do that.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I wouldn't do that. I'm so funny you would do that.
- 0:42Speaker 4: But no, I wouldn't do that.
- 0:44Speaker 1: No, No, I don't.
- 0:45Speaker 3: And with your cooking show that's happening at the moment
- 0:47Speaker 3: as well, I know you've been on the other.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Side interviewing some celebrities as well. How has that been.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Really fun? My favorite thing about the show was, I mean,
- 0:59Speaker 2: I did it mind? You know, it's the biggest bluff
- 1:01Speaker 2: of all time. I mean, how I even got all
- 1:03Speaker 2: those people to agree to come around. Let me, film them,
- 1:07Speaker 2: feed them, ask the questions. I was just like, I
- 1:10Speaker 2: was like, what's wrong with you? Like, like, you know,
- 1:14Speaker 2: I can believe it. But what I sort of came
- 1:18Speaker 2: to realize is that I wanted to talk to all
- 1:23Speaker 2: these great people so that everyone could watch.
- 1:30Speaker 4: And realize that everybody has their story. It's never that easy.
- 1:36Speaker 2: And grit and determination and luck all those things a
- 1:40Speaker 2: huge factor. So I wanted to have a kind of
- 1:42Speaker 2: inspiring show. We get to see something of these people
- 1:46Speaker 2: that somehow I can get a slightly different opinion. It's
- 1:50Speaker 2: different version of them.
- 1:52Speaker 4: We're all different people to different people all day long.
- 1:55Speaker 2: We're different people, right, so we're all able to be
- 1:58Speaker 2: many many people. And with me being a sort of
- 2:01Speaker 2: a fellow creative person, there's a there's a there's a
- 2:07Speaker 2: letting down of the guard, you know, and not not
- 2:12Speaker 2: not very defensive at all, like you know, because they're
- 2:14Speaker 2: in my home.
- 2:15Speaker 4: It's it's I'm.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Never going to do them wrong, you know, you know,
- 2:20Speaker 2: I'm never going to edit it to make them look shitty.
- 2:23Speaker 4: I'm never going to set them up. Is that I'm
- 2:25Speaker 4: not in anything like that.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I really it's like it's it's like Switzerland, you know,
- 2:31Speaker 2: it's like fun Switzerland around mind. You know, there's all
- 2:34Speaker 2: that truce and just so that's what it is. I
- 2:37Speaker 2: really enjoy doing it, and I'm hoping to well look
- 2:40Speaker 2: forward to doing the second series in the next couple
- 2:43Speaker 2: of months.
- 2:43Speaker 1: You know, yes, oh wonderful. We can't wait. I was
- 2:47Speaker 1: just gonna ask if there's going to be the second series.
- 2:50Speaker 4: So that's a lot of setting up the shooting of it.
- 2:53Speaker 4: There'll be another six episodes.
- 2:54Speaker 2: It's like I will maybe a couple of weeks of
- 2:56Speaker 2: prep for cooking like I did for those Lives. Maybe
- 3:02Speaker 2: actually it's just a daye honestly because things, but so
- 3:07Speaker 2: it's just like two weeks actual work. But to coordinate
- 3:11Speaker 2: the next boatload of superstars is yeah, Like I can't
- 3:18Speaker 2: believe we did it well well after we finished Brookshields,
- 3:20Speaker 2: I think it was the last one.
- 3:22Speaker 4: I was like, score that.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I know.
- 3:26Speaker 2: It's not like I don't you know, there's not like
- 3:29Speaker 2: Larry Ellison signed me to Paramount Plus and like I
- 3:32Speaker 2: got an easy ride. It was like four production companies,
- 3:36Speaker 2: three TVs. It's like it's pulling teeth. It's well, my
- 3:40Speaker 2: hair's so different than all like my head grown.
- 3:44Speaker 4: The same thing.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I was like, oh, well, one day I'll get a
- 3:47Speaker 2: chance to explain that it's a grind.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Oh absolutely absolutely.
- 3:52Speaker 3: The coordination and all of that, as you were saying,
- 3:55Speaker 3: must have been like next level.
- 3:56Speaker 4: That's yeah, down the stairs and cooked. But the actuals
- 4:02Speaker 4: of getting people in what I laugh.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And I got better at it, you know, Like when
- 4:07Speaker 2: at first we began, it was like it was the
- 4:10Speaker 2: dinners were like four hours and so much alcohol with
- 4:12Speaker 2: Tom and with them Jack, whereas like slaughtering amounts of alcohol,
- 4:19Speaker 2: you know, very very very.
- 4:22Speaker 4: You know, what's the word respectable amount?
- 4:26Speaker 2: I mean, I don't even drink a lot, so for
- 4:28Speaker 2: me right because you're doing it for hours and I
- 4:32Speaker 2: didn't do any It's all in real time.
- 4:35Speaker 4: But inevitably we began slower than we finished.
- 4:39Speaker 2: By the time I realized, like Jesus Christ, I can't
- 4:43Speaker 2: make it four hours drinking that amount.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Do you think that happened just so you could feel
- 4:50Speaker 3: a little bit more comfortable in the beginning?
- 4:52Speaker 2: Was that what was I really based on how it
- 4:54Speaker 2: would be if someone came to my house, Like if
- 4:56Speaker 2: you came to my house, I would get as much
- 4:58Speaker 2: cooking done as I could.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Then when you arrive, you hang out, drink talk, and
- 5:03Speaker 4: then if.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Something had to be cooked, better if I cooked it there,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and then I cook it there, and then if not,
- 5:08Speaker 2: bring out Like I love the dinners that you can
- 5:11Speaker 2: just having another and it's all.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Done effortless but actually cracking.
- 5:16Speaker 1: On your Yeah, that's it. That's it.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I do a lot of stuff like that, but I
- 5:23Speaker 2: love it. It's not a chore for me. It's sort
- 5:26Speaker 2: of it's a reflection of how I feel about the
- 5:29Speaker 2: people I'm cooking for.
- 5:31Speaker 3: That's so wonderful. I love that show. I recommend everyone
- 5:33Speaker 3: check it out if you haven't. But also twenty twenty
- 5:37Speaker 3: six feels massive for Bush already. Does this resurgence feel
- 5:41Speaker 3: surprising to you or does it feel earned after years
- 5:43Speaker 3: of grinding?
- 5:45Speaker 4: It's like a it's a combination of all things. You know.
- 5:48Speaker 2: You can't be greedy and expect your time in the
- 5:51Speaker 2: sun the whole time because no one's everyone's in the shade,
- 5:55Speaker 2: especially in Melbourne. Yes, though, it's like the main thing.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I often thought of it like a bit like being
- 6:05Speaker 2: on a carousel. So there remainders where you come in
- 6:08Speaker 2: the light, and you've got to keep you've got to
- 6:11Speaker 2: keep going.
- 6:11Speaker 4: When you're in the dark.
- 6:13Speaker 2: You can't just stop get off the carousel, because as
- 6:15Speaker 2: long as you stay on and you do your best,
- 6:18Speaker 2: there is a chance that it comes back round against
- 6:21Speaker 2: And that's how I really feel about life. And that's
- 6:25Speaker 2: why it's so tragic when people give up and get
- 6:30Speaker 2: squashed by things and just can't cope, which is perfectly
- 6:35Speaker 2: understandable because you could be led to believe that you'll
- 6:38Speaker 2: never come out into the light. But it's such a mystery,
- 6:43Speaker 2: this life. I just say to my kids, like, just
- 6:46Speaker 2: work on what you can. Like, if you have a
- 6:48Speaker 2: craft or whatever you decide you want to do, you
- 6:51Speaker 2: just work at that so that you're just better at
- 6:54Speaker 2: what it is that you do. And then everything else, honestly,
- 6:57Speaker 2: to crapshoot and be like those two things, like working
- 7:01Speaker 2: in craft and be likable and not in that order,
- 7:03Speaker 2: be likable and then working. Yeah, that's just I don't
- 7:07Speaker 2: know what else anyone could do. And I'm I'm always
- 7:13Speaker 2: slightly terrified.
- 7:14Speaker 4: I remember this actually is a good story for you
- 7:17Speaker 4: because it's fun for an interview.
- 7:21Speaker 2: When I was working on concerting with with k I
- 7:24Speaker 2: noticed that he he's very caught up and what his
- 7:29Speaker 2: next projects were, and ask myself, Wow, like Keanu Reeves
- 7:34Speaker 2: is like, isn't it like to.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Have Walking the Park for him?
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:38Speaker 2: And it really, you know, he it has looked like
- 7:43Speaker 2: Walking the Park and because since then he's done nothing
- 7:45Speaker 2: but do fantastic work.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Is incredible.
- 7:48Speaker 2: But we did a TV show the other day somehow
- 7:50Speaker 2: I knew or the Today Show. At the beginning of
- 7:53Speaker 2: our tour, I played I beat Loneliness and he was
- 7:56Speaker 2: being interviewed that day and.
- 7:58Speaker 4: We're just chatting as really I hadn't seen him fm.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Minute, and I said, God, you know what really struck
- 8:04Speaker 2: me is when we first met and we watched that movie.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I was talked about Constantine and constantly too.
- 8:10Speaker 4: I was like, I was so blown.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Away by your sort of hunger or need to know
- 8:16Speaker 2: what's next and playing what you're doing, and there's there's
- 8:19Speaker 2: a degree of stress in it, you know, in.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Real life, and it just you just realize this is
- 8:24Speaker 4: the same for everyone. Every fuck is going.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Through the same game, no matter who you're I.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Mean, I'm as good as my next record, you know,
- 8:32Speaker 2: in the next show, Like I'm going to come down
- 8:33Speaker 2: there and have an amazing tour. So I feel really
- 8:36Speaker 2: good about that. But yeah, life is incredible, and so
- 8:40Speaker 2: this resurgence, we just kept playing in the dark and like,
- 8:47Speaker 2: so it's funny because we played all these massive festivals
- 8:50Speaker 2: here people freaking out and everything.
- 8:52Speaker 4: I think to myself, obviously I really like it.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I don't get too wrapped up on it, because if
- 8:57Speaker 2: you get seduced by that, then you're going to get
- 8:59Speaker 2: you by when it goes away, you know, so you've
- 9:01Speaker 2: got a tiky fat ego away from that. But I
- 9:04Speaker 2: did feel in my heart it was I did have
- 9:07Speaker 2: a very small voice in my heart was going, we've
- 9:10Speaker 2: been like this rages.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Yeah, because oh my fucking god.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I saw the shows unbelievable and thinking we should have
- 9:18Speaker 2: been there five.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Years ago, you know.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but again, life is just what it is. They
- 9:26Speaker 2: weren't and we are, and we're excited to come and
- 9:28Speaker 2: this tour is super exciting for us.
- 9:31Speaker 4: You know, we asked all the time whenever it comes
- 9:33Speaker 4: to Australia.
- 9:34Speaker 2: A couple of years ago, two years ago, we were
- 9:36Speaker 2: that and I thought, fucking that was such a great tour.
- 9:40Speaker 2: We've gotta go right back. And it's like literally pulling
- 9:44Speaker 2: teeth just like and they said We like that. They
- 9:49Speaker 2: like the space. Don't ever do it. It's been two years,
- 9:53Speaker 2: is it three or two years when we're here.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Because you played the festival, didn't you. Yes, yeah, yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 1: a couple of years.
- 10:04Speaker 3: But and the logistics of getting every for every band
- 10:07Speaker 3: getting to Australia is just horrendous.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so we're so excited about that, and it's just
- 10:16Speaker 2: really fun do that. We had an amazing time in Europe.
- 10:20Speaker 2: We had spent ten weeks in Europe and it was
- 10:23Speaker 2: just brilliant. It just makes sense for your life and
- 10:25Speaker 2: you really do get to travel the world. We've done
- 10:27Speaker 2: so much in North America, which is great, but I
- 10:31Speaker 2: do like spreading the sound and so what's the other
- 10:36Speaker 2: side of the world just feels like a life that lived.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Oh well, we absolutely love it, of course that you
- 10:42Speaker 3: know that. You say that because we want more bands
- 10:45Speaker 3: to still come to us. We know it's difficult to
- 10:47Speaker 3: get over here. So no, we really appreciate it. And
- 10:51Speaker 3: you're coming with Shine down as well. How are you
- 10:54Speaker 3: feeling about that?
- 10:56Speaker 4: Oh, it's just fantastic.
- 10:57Speaker 2: You know, we've we've played with them quite a few
- 10:59Speaker 2: times here in the States. They I think it's a
- 11:04Speaker 2: great idea because obviously Together is a big it's a
- 11:07Speaker 2: bigger it's a bigger building, and I want to play
- 11:11Speaker 2: to more people. They're just a fantastic set of people,
- 11:15Speaker 2: fantastic crew. Everyone knows each other. It's very relaxed and
- 11:22Speaker 2: I'm just you know, what I do like about them.
- 11:27Speaker 2: My favorite thing is that is that they you know,
- 11:29Speaker 2: they desire to connect with their audience.
- 11:31Speaker 4: They're very audience focus.
- 11:34Speaker 2: You know, some people are not as much, you know,
- 11:37Speaker 2: sort of more about their show or the cell they're like,
- 11:41Speaker 2: you know, He's it's like a it's like a therapy
- 11:43Speaker 2: session with Brent, and.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Then with us. You know, it's funny because we do.
- 11:50Speaker 2: The set, you know, God, I don't know if it
- 11:54Speaker 2: quite lows to do our forty five, but it'd be
- 11:55Speaker 2: nice sizable set and the journey that we go on
- 11:59Speaker 2: through the song, although we change the set all the time,
- 12:02Speaker 2: it's just different stages of mental health and perspect and hope.
- 12:06Speaker 2: And you know, I've had themes of loneliness and loss
- 12:10Speaker 2: and magic and love and being found, being lost, being
- 12:15Speaker 2: found again ever since.
- 12:17Speaker 4: When I play the when I look down and just like, oh,
- 12:20Speaker 4: it's such a.
- 12:22Speaker 2: It it warms my heart, because it's like it's a
- 12:26Speaker 2: whole life that given to music, and because as people
- 12:33Speaker 2: there in the audience come and see me, it was
- 12:35Speaker 2: not waste of time.
- 12:38Speaker 4: And you know, there were many years where I began.
- 12:41Speaker 2: That that it did seem as though a specially against
- 12:46Speaker 2: all and that's just it's just what it is. And
- 12:50Speaker 2: you know, life is so much more instant instantaneous now
- 12:54Speaker 2: that that seems a bit of an Indian concept, you know, like,
- 12:58Speaker 2: but that's the truth, and that's our learning. And I
- 13:01Speaker 2: think it adds to people relating to us because they feel,
- 13:06Speaker 2: as they know it. It's not I've never sang about
- 13:11Speaker 2: the sushi. I like, I don't even like about it.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I never cared about that stuff, you know, don't. I
- 13:20Speaker 2: don't drive flash cars. I just sort of live a
- 13:24Speaker 2: nice life and just maybe like being connected with the people.
- 13:28Speaker 3: That love the band, you know, Yeah, absolutely, and the
- 13:32Speaker 3: fans definitely feel that from you guys as well.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And in recent performances.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Too, you have been playing more of those deep cuts
- 13:40Speaker 3: in the set list. Are you enjoying visiting that older
- 13:43Speaker 3: material again?
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yes, you know, I'm always weary of pushing guys too much,
- 13:50Speaker 2: but I would play loads more different songs, you know.
- 13:56Speaker 2: So when Chris came to me and was like, hey,
- 13:58Speaker 2: we should expand the kind of pool of songs, like,
- 14:01Speaker 2: oh fucking thank god mate, it was dying and and
- 14:06Speaker 2: even now I want to extend it and push it
- 14:09Speaker 2: and have like a bunch of you know, three or
- 14:11Speaker 2: four other songs we haven't played, so that when we
- 14:13Speaker 2: come to Australia there's a.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Slightly there's a twist different. But and I you know,
- 14:19Speaker 4: think about the modern world.
- 14:21Speaker 2: All those settlists get published all the times people because
- 14:23Speaker 2: people see it just like just like you know, people go, oh,
- 14:27Speaker 2: it's the Pyro. We can't change the Set's like kill
- 14:30Speaker 2: me if I do the same set every night.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Yes, I've never done that. I don't like that. But
- 14:35Speaker 4: some people I don't have the luxury of I wouldn't.
- 14:38Speaker 4: I don't.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I don't get the I kind of like the fire.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It's kind of fun sometimes. Well, so I don't get
- 14:43Speaker 2: the cannons.
- 14:44Speaker 4: We can.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I just I've spent life to devote to the tune
- 14:50Speaker 2: of music, and so I have something on it. Just
- 14:56Speaker 2: it's like write about of chorus, you know, if it's
- 15:00Speaker 2: of course not popping, you know, yeah, really like extreme,
- 15:06Speaker 2: don't I don't relate to that.
- 15:08Speaker 1: It's jarring, isn't it.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 15:11Speaker 4: Terrifying.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're anywhere near them, not expecting them, Yeah.
- 15:17Speaker 1: That's it. Does the Pyro feel hot to you because
- 15:19Speaker 1: I know as an audience member at the front row
- 15:22Speaker 1: it's boiling.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yes, I mean, I don't know if we're using pirate.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I'm saying I don't mind that.
- 15:27Speaker 4: I think you can like all that.
- 15:29Speaker 2: You know, as I say, you know, we've been, we've
- 15:31Speaker 2: been in the carousel. We're happy to like we like. Yeah,
- 15:35Speaker 2: we've got to find that powers. We have a great
- 15:38Speaker 2: lighting guy.
- 15:38Speaker 1: So yeah, fantastic. Maybe not Pyro for Australia, just to
- 15:45Speaker 1: let the fans.
- 15:46Speaker 4: I wonder, you know, I mean it's more possible, who knows.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Yeah, fantastic. And I've got to wrap this up. Unfortunately,
- 15:55Speaker 3: I could talk to you forever, Gavin. It's just amazing.
- 15:58Speaker 3: But when people look back on this of Bullshoes from now,
- 16:01Speaker 3: what do you hope they say about this chapter of
- 16:03Speaker 3: the band.
- 16:06Speaker 4: That it was.
- 16:07Speaker 2: It's been a really exciting band to watch perform. I
- 16:13Speaker 2: love the responsibility of trying to entertain and and just
- 16:18Speaker 2: lose myself in that.
- 16:21Speaker 4: You know when I first began.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I was so uptight and does not lose, you know,
- 16:26Speaker 2: when I was a kid first performing and you know,
- 16:29Speaker 2: getting rejected by labels and having my voice criticize my
- 16:34Speaker 2: stage presence or you know, movement on stage tiny pubs,
- 16:41Speaker 2: So I don't know exactly wasn't going to be doing,
- 16:43Speaker 2: by the way, nonetheless as opposed to I mean, obviously
- 16:49Speaker 2: slightly bitter, not bitter, but I obviously still remember that.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Apparently we hold on to the results. Apparently we lose.
- 16:56Speaker 4: We forget the compliments in my three years, but the insults,
- 16:59Speaker 4: it's like.
- 17:02Speaker 2: And so my freedom on stage and my willingness to
- 17:07Speaker 2: be a clown and just lose myself in the momentum
- 17:12Speaker 2: of whatever the fuck I feel like is liberating. And
- 17:17Speaker 2: you know when I see the pictures, I go, yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 2: it's pretty loose.
- 17:22Speaker 4: You know.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I always remember the different earlier years where I was like,
- 17:25Speaker 2: you know, because I feel if I feel so much
- 17:30Speaker 2: obviously better on stage now, I wonder what would have
- 17:33Speaker 2: happened in my life i'd been like that then. But
- 17:36Speaker 2: everybody got to loan your craft. You can't stage craft.
- 17:39Speaker 2: There is no learning now outside of being on stage.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Just me touring class for.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Years was what grounded me and gave me that first start.
- 17:48Speaker 4: So when I'm on stage, there's no dead time.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I don't I don't amble, I don't just like everything
- 17:57Speaker 2: has intent. Everything on stage. I believe you're responsible for
- 18:01Speaker 2: this audience watching a show. So I'm not off on
- 18:04Speaker 2: the side, like you know, blowing the nose and having
- 18:07Speaker 2: a drink and like you know something where it's like
- 18:12Speaker 2: i'm I'm it's I owe, this is this is our
- 18:15Speaker 2: time on stage and it's like sacred, you know, to
- 18:18Speaker 2: be entertaining.
- 18:19Speaker 4: And so I was fine with a people. I see people,
- 18:22Speaker 4: so I just.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Try to avoid that. But I see things I don't
- 18:25Speaker 2: and I think, don't be that just always.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Harrison Ford is my favorite actor. You know why because
- 18:34Speaker 2: it's always worried. Yeah, always worried.
- 18:39Speaker 1: You can see it in his face.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:41Speaker 2: So I mean it's never in a scene, but like
- 18:43Speaker 2: I'm not bothered. Actually fuck it right, yeah, always bothered.
- 18:47Speaker 2: So I'm always bothered on stage.
- 18:50Speaker 1: That's you know, that's so interesting and that's so true.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I think if we look at you like you were saying.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Back then, like in the nineties up till now, how
- 18:58Speaker 3: much more loose you've become and care free. It's obvious
- 19:03Speaker 3: when you you know, those first few shows you played
- 19:05Speaker 3: on stage that we were telling like, yeah, that's crazy.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I wasn't I literally showed up, wasn't very good or
- 19:11Speaker 2: wasn't as good as my potential.
- 19:14Speaker 4: But that's so how you meant to do it.
- 19:16Speaker 2: It'd be nothing worse than being like that there now,
- 19:19Speaker 2: being like a tree on stage.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so true.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, Kevin, thank you so much for your
- 19:26Speaker 3: time today. We can't wait to see you guys in September.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Thank you
