- Nate: Tonight on the North American Friends Movie Club. A murder trial. A divided jury. And the highest waistlines you've ever seen in your life. We watch the 1957 American legal drama film 12 Angry Men. So pour yourself a glass of courthouse tap water. And smoke 78 indoor cigarettes. Because we're the angriest men in podcasting. And when it comes to the charge of being bad at podcasting, we find the defendants not guilty. This is what it sounds like when we do a podcast. We're currently doing one. This is the North American Friends Movie Club, and you might notice something about the name of our show. And that's Friends Comes Before Movie Club. Because it's simply more important to us. It's as important to us as habeas corpuses to the the courtroom. To justice. To justice. Yes. So I gotta ask my two little jurors. How we judging. Not guilty. Not guilty. Wow. I can't wait to talk about this movie with you guys. But first we're gonna talk about our friendship. Because that comes before broadcast. It's more important. Yeah. ⁓ we didn't record yesterday because I got a haircut and look how short it is. Yep. Sassy is fuck. I even sang a little song about it when I first saw ya. Thank you. Yep. ⁓ showed my stylist several photos of what I wanted. And she and I both talked about how we have to be very careful because we're veering into Karen territory instead of chic French Bob territory. Sure. And there is a thin line. And what that line is is the angle at which the hair is cut. So if you were to look at my haircut, it is all one length. Like it you can't tell by this angle. But there's no angling from the back to the front, angling down. It's like s ver horizontal. And so I just want to share that with the the wider movie club fan friends podcast community that ⁓ just watch out for Karen Haircut ladies. You know? Keep it 'cause sometimes we easily slide into it. We don't know. We must look out for each other. Keep that angle straight. That's right. I signed in and I was like, is wow, that's a chic French Bob. So a French Bob actually has bangs, but it's like this. So this was be this is like a micro bob. Don't it's a micro bob. Why we gotta we could have just said thank you. Well thank you. Yes. I just want to be clear for those at home because a French Bob is like an actual style. And I don't want people to think I'm French Bob. What were we talking about? Your dad in Quebec for two months? Hey! Speaking of you guys, can I tell you what's been happening? I would love to know what's happening. I was just gonna ask what's happening. Well, my father invited us over for dinner tonight. And apparently so Nick and I went over there. We went to a swimming pool last Saturday without children. And we had a couple we had a couple in the pool. Enjoyed a few libations. Had a yeah. And ⁓ and then we went over to my parents' house. ⁓ to meet up with my sister and so we all hung out ⁓ and discussed some things and apparently during that discussion my father invited us over for chicken on Thursday Nick and I and I don't remember that but Nick remembered that so when I texted him yesterday and I was like hey my my dad invited us over for dinner he was like yeah he wants to make us chicken I was like Okay What kind of chicken we talking? So what Bob likes to do is go to the grocery store, and if he sees a good deal, he's gonna get a good deal. Out of my own heart. And I think that he just bought a lot of bone and chicken and wants to cook it for Bob. He knows the parker when sees one. I don't know how excited I would be if someone tuck called me or texted me and said, Hey, I'm gonna cook you some chicken. I'd be ecstatic. I was ecstatic, and this is my father. Should just be like this was like being asked out on a date. Like, this is a rare occasion. My father wants to hang out with me. That's choosing to is now is ⁓ are the other Taylor sisters gonna be there? So I assume my sister Jennifer will be a big fan of the podcast. ⁓ because she's currently ⁓ hanging out with them while she buys a house. ⁓ can you say hi to Jennifer for me? I would love to personal hello. ⁓ Say Brent personally says hello to you. She will she will love that. She likes you guys so well. I'll also say that Nate says personally says hello to after, but you have to wait. You have to say Brent says hello, get her full reaction, then says Nate also wanted to send a personal hello. I would like it to go like that. And I have to say a personal hello. Yeah, to say hello. You were talked about, like he would they went out, don't they went out of their way to say it. Yeah. That's awesome. And you know what? I might if I hang out with her, ⁓ she might bring up the podcast. So then this would be then you'll leave you both will feel good because you'll have been mentioned and then you're like, you know, by the way. Well, I this I feel like we're gonna you're gonna bring some something I have to say in my segment up regardless tonight. So maybe that's good, maybe that's bad, but it's foreshadowing, which is great for podcasting. So Yeah. Somebody said, ⁓ Everything I heard this quote. Everything seems fun when you're happy. And I was like, that's it. I was like, that's what I've been doing my whole life. Like everything sounds fun when you're happy. Yeah. I've always been trying to be happy so things are fun. Like it wasn't like I was trying to have fun to be happy. It was like I'm gonna be happy so that no matter what, everything's fun. Does that make sense? Yep. Only a few things in life are truly like miserable. Like there's nothing in them that can be enjoyable. It's and it's rare that we encounter these things. Perspective. Thank you. And this aligns with my Enneagram number, which I have talked about briefly previously. Do you guys remember Enneagram? It's one through nine. It's a way to it's like a personality voodoo, you know, astrology thing. And I really align with my number. I'm a seven and ⁓ the if you're an Enneagram seven, you're very optimistic and you like to have fun and you're kind of like a bright light for people. Like and I think and I feel that, like, cause I'm like a naturally kind of jovial person. Even when I was like terribly depressed, I still like if you didn't I wasn't ever walking around like Eeyore. When I was like suicidal, you would have had no idea at the grocery store that I wanted to die. There's never been an emo Kate phase. No. If the emo Kate phade was like once when I dyed my hair black, but I still listen to Dave Matthews band. Like, what are we doing? You maybe got it with Radiohead. Like if you can get a little black hair and radiohead, you're getting close. Right. That was the darkest period of your life by far. The darkest period was just like sitting alone and wanting to die and just like staring off into nothing and feeling a sense of dread constantly. That's right. Couldn't be me. Couldn't be me anymore. I don't know what that's like anymore. Because of the euphoria. I'm so glad. And the diarrhea. I constipation before. Constipation. Couldn't be me. I'm the opposite. So when I when people want to suggest to do new if I'm happy and people want to suggest to do new things, I'm scared that's gonna ruin the happiness. I try not to live in fear. That you just emotionally big dogged the fuck out of me there. You Took my pants down and smashed me on the air. That's what it's like being a client of mine. I big dog people all the time in therapy. I like I felt like I just want to go lay down now. I love the idea of like if my father was always cruel to me and K be like, Damn, sucks to suck. ⁓ I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But what you're describing is anxiety, right? You're describing anxiety. I don't look at it that way. It doesn't matter the way you look at it. That's what it is. I'm on a deck. It's really nice. I'm on a deck by a pool. I'm enjoying myself. There's snacks to my right. There's ⁓ libations to my left. And someone says, Hey, it's so nice out. Let's go for a hike. And I go for a hike. I'm dehydrated from the libations. Did you want to go for a hike? I fall down and I'm bitten by a snake. That's I think that's I think that's anxiety. You're you just like imagined falling down one bad and then a snake biting you too. That I feel like that's you're feeling anxious about it. No, what he just did is you drasticized and catastrophized at the same time. Whoa. Whoa. You can't be throwing I Z E onto things all willy-nilly like double it up. ⁓ you can't throw IZE onto those words. I d listen, I can only Google symptoms. I can only Google one symptom at a time. I can't be keeping up with the IZEs you're adding. I just don't want to get bit by a snake because I do ⁓ because I'm dehydrated. But do you want to go like would you enjoy going on a hike ever? No. Well then then it's a mo Yeah, it's a bad example. Wait, wait a second. I want to be mad at Kate here, but My bone to pick with this situation is Nate. Matt's not even qualified in this situation. And he's just piggybacking off you and agreeing. Yeah. And I don't like it. I'm like, I'm like Kate's hype man. She's like, you got yourself serious depression. I'm like, depression. Big D is host. You're my gata. You're my gata. You're like Flavor Flay. You're like Flavor Flay, but instead of like a clock around your neck, you have like a Rorschach test around your neck. For the people that are at home listening and they don't can't see what's going on, everything Kate says, Nate is nodding vigorously to and saying, Yep, I agree. I think that's what it is. I I did that thing with my arm where you s you like put your elbow up and spin it spin your hand in a circle. I knew the arsenal hall the time. I do the arsenial hall all the time. We lost that as a as a society. We lost that and it should come back. Let's bring it back. ⁓ I feel like that is I'm gonna say that that's what's been happening. That's what's been happening. And that's what happened. That's what happened. That's what happened. Okay, yeah, it's my turn to talk about what we have to talk about. I'm gonna get into something in a minute. However, I want you guys to know that I did get a little carried away with the the with the trimmer last night. And it underneath here it looks like I have a gray sole patch. It's not a soul patch. I didn't just notice it until now. Now I do notice it and it does look like a soul patch. It's all I can see. It's all I can see when I look at myself in the mirror or on this. It's really hard. Why is it it I trimmed here too much on the sides. ⁓ and I forgot that it's really gray there. And now it looks like I have a gray sole patch. It's I it's not a sole patch. There is hair there. Isn't that just like I would say that everybody has a sole patch. ⁓ Do you have to like go out of your way to have it to have it? I think so, yeah. ⁓ y ⁓ yeah. Yeah. With my facial hair you do, yeah. So Nick in the nineties had the gross long thing, you know. ⁓ yeah. But that was cool back then. Yeah, he was into he was into hand syncing the backstreet boys. Like he knew about different stuff. And he really liked the idea of like very thin facial hair. Back then. He played with the idea of an earring. He didn't do it, but he played with the idea. Yeah, he had a tongue ring. Yeah. Okay. That good Nicholas. I can't imagine him having one now. Did you guys ever have a tongue ring? I've never been pierced or tattooed. ⁓ you're a bird. Have you never been pierced? ⁓ almost called you Nick, Brent. That's how close you guys are. That's yeah, she saw a little bit of soul patch and got sort of thinking of Nick. ⁓ no, I've never been pierced. I just tattooed, never been pierced. I did the re I did the reverse today. I put remember when I put the Mio in the coffee? I put the coffee in the Mio today. Wait, how does that work? How does that work? Yeah. I poured a big old jug of water like this, squirted some Mio in there, and then I was making instant coffee. I took the instant coffee out, I put a keeping teaspoon into the water. Coffee into the Meo. I was like, well, I did I just that's came full circle. I just did it. That makes sense. I thought you were pouring like a of coffee. You know what I mean? Like I was thinking of liquid coffee. It's because it's I I always have one or the other with me. I always have them together. So I'm this is the problem. I'm sure it's not the medication, it's because I have them all together. Sure. It's I like I want to compliment your cup. I haven't seen a cup like that in a long time, and it's that to me is that's a root beer mug. That's what that's what that was made for is actually a it's it's a Guinness mug and I'm drinking water in it. And like those cause you put your little finger pads in the I like to put my pads in the in the nooks. Yeah. I love to put my pads in the nooks, Kate. Yes, in all ways. There you go. I don't know. I here comes the serious part. ⁓ I first want to apologize to Long time avid listener, Susan Taylor, who's Kate's mother. She doesn't like when we curse. This require requires cursing. Can't brace yourself. We really fucked up, guys. We r we really did it. Uh-oh. Years of doing borderline, ⁓ years of doing this show, ⁓ it finally caught up to us. ⁓ my god. I don't know what's gonna happen. But it can't be good. You've got us. Yeah. So you guys know my arch nemesis, the guy that walks his dog and the dog does the fucking the German shepherd and all that? Yeah. Dog's dead. ⁓ What? Did you kill it? Listen, you can't have that on air. You can't have that recorded. What This is not me. Don't this is what I was afraid of telling the story. This is a three-person thing. We're in all whatever happens together. It's collusion. The dog's fucking dead guys. How did you find out? Tell us the story. He still does the walk by himself. With the leash, but there's no dog. No dog at any I can't believe you guys are making jokes and laughing. ⁓ Yeah, yeah. So it hovers. He's got a hovering leash. I'm sorry, Britt. It's way sadder if it's not hovering. If he's just dragging that thing behind him, just blip blip blip. He's not he doesn't have the leash. He's carrying something in his hands. I don't know if it's the poop bags or not, but he's still doing the same fucking same route and the same exercises he does with the dog. He's still doing them. So we just haven't seen the dog. No, dog's dead. Confirmed dead. I heard him talking about it to his neighbor. I was walking my dogs and I heard him talking to a neighbor. I was like, I'm gonna pr pause my book and listen to what's going on because there's no dog. And I heard him say He got shot seven times in a gang fight. He was knifed. What did he say? That's good. Go on, that's fine. No, it's good. It's good. It's good. But I can't believe that we're still joking about you. You realized we didn't like this dog. Why do we have it's like Lindsay Graham dying? Are we supposed to act sad? Dog was just doing what it was tall. He was just following orders. The German Shepherd's Nazi. ⁓ but we didn't want the dog dead. No, we wanted the if anything, we wanted the man dead. Don't say that. If I don't see him doing ⁓ listen. I'm not legally, we we're I think we're in the clear. Yeah. The three of us. Legally. I've been in Kansas City all this time. I know, but everything we have recorded and put out on the internet is forever. But I legally I don't think they can clip us with that. No. Here's where I think is the problem. Karmically. Is that a word? Yep. Yes. I think we're fucked. ⁓ Don't put that on me. Yeah, my spirits my spirit's free. I don't feel chained by by your negativity in your neighborhood. Feel light as a feather. I feel like I wished ill will on that dog. I wanted you to befriend it. Maybe if you had followed my advice, that dog would be alive right now. Negligence, that's where they're gonna get you. That is, it's neglect, is actually while you'll be why you will be around. ⁓ so it's all fun and fucking games when we have bits and jokes to get off while the dog's alive. The minute the dog's dead, I feel light as a feather. I don't want to have bad karma. Maybe you should have been a friend to the dog. He threw me under the karma bus and I I don't like it. That's just how the wheel works. Good. I wonder who drives the Karma bus. The current and Jesus. Jesus. Jesus take the wheel. He Jesus is Jesus is I don't know if this is for NASCAR fans. God drives and Jesus is the spotter. Jesus will say, Demon below, you know, bad bad karma high. And that God just stays God just stays on the track where he's so that's my thing for Karma. But listen, dog's dead. I don't know what the I've been rocked for this for four days. And you know how hard it is not to text you guys right away because we need content for the show and I can't bring this show. I'm glad you did because then we got to surprise you with our it it like total failure to go along with the plan. I'm so sorry. Do you feel do you feel supported? No, I feel the opposite of supported. The very first thing you got I you I said you guys made a you guys had a bit with a wire and the leash and the dog walking. Dead dog walking. That's good. I have to see this man every day. What's the name of the dog? Do we know the name? Yes, I do. What is it? I will say it, but Nate, you have to beep it out. Okay, I'll beep it out. For legal purposes. Legal purposes. You could be a fan of the show. We don't know. You never know. So it's a girl. That it it was a girl. Aww. What is that? What Why did that It changed it for me too. Kate, I don't know why. It's not as funny anymore. That poor lady. ⁓ no. Yeah, now you heard the name. See, things have changed. Now we're back on the other side of the beep. She's like And just tried to ride out her retirement years. Yeah. And we made fun of her and now she's dead. And we have to live with that. See? We're back on the other side of the beep. The minute that I told the name, everything changed in here. Kate's got a frown. Nate loves. Shrunk. Shrunk. Disheveled. Yeah. Things have changed. other than that, I hit my sister with a kendo stick this weekend. Or last weekend. I did not like that. Classic bullying. Terrible. How? Why are you hitting people with things, period? Why? If you have how many days, how many times have you, Kate, have you had access to a kendo stick? I d I can't think of any. Yeah. So when I did have access to a candle stick, I picked it up and I said, Hey, I'm gonna hit you with this. And she said, Okay, and I hit her. ⁓ so she gave consent. Yeah. Okay, you can't just bully the willing. That's right. Yeah. So it makes such a satisfying crack when you hit somebody. Did it hurt her? Yeah, it hurt her bad. Bad because I came because I came onto it. Like I'm not this I I figured this is my Yeah. Yeah. This is my first and last chance to hit my sibling with a cando stick. Because it doesn't happen. You don't get the op it took me what? 44 years for it to happen. Yeah. So I cracked her across the back, at the small of the back, where I thought it would be you know that's like the worst spot. I was going for I was thinking surface area. I'm thinking let's spread the pain across the biggest large. Well, I would have done your bottom. Not your the small of your bag. Then I'm a pervert in the parking lot hitting girls in the ass with a candle. It does change. It's your sister. Exactly. ⁓ fine. So she gave me a lick back. I told her she can get one back. Okay. And then she got hers back. And she whippers. ⁓ okay. So then you started fighting. Yeah. No, no. It was just, hey, this is mutual respect. It was an exchange of wax. It was each. She let me get a lick in. You get your lick. Here you go. Come on, do it. I said, don't hold back. Hit me like I hit you. And she it hurts like really bad. ⁓ last thing I want to talk about is snacks. ⁓ shout out to the company Twigs, ⁓ the craft pretzel makers. ⁓ delicious. It's just two straight pretzels twisted together and The flavors are sea salt, sour cream, and onion dill pickle, fire, roasted jalapeno, and sweet ⁓ cheddar or sweet cream or sour cream and cheddar. Not a bad in the bunch. ⁓ not a bad twist. The twists is what allow the flavors to pile up and you get the flavor pockets from the twists. And they're all delicious. Flavor pockets. Yeah. If you come across the snack twigs, craft pretzels, pick them up. This is not an ad. This is just shout out twigs, shadow tainko. ⁓ send the check if you if you will if you're very if you're a listener, Twigs. So I don't do I want to Google if we have these in the states. I don't know if they're a Canadian thing or not. They're called Twigs. T W I G. Z to keep it cool. Yeah, that's how you know they got good flavors, is what that Z is involved. Ooh. The Z. Disease. I'm surprised because just a few weeks ago you're like, I'm done with flavors. I'm never eating fancy flavors again. Now you're eating two fancy flavors at the same time. I exactly exactly Calgary. They're made in Calgary. They're only in ⁓ Dylan's. And I can buy them on eBay right now for sixteen dollars. No, I pay three ninety nine for mine. Mine are delicious. They're good. ⁓ and shout out to Canada for sudden all our smoke to the states. That's I like that though that hold on. We're bet we're still on pretzels. I really like that shape because my favorite sh ⁓ pretzel are dots. Do you know dots? Do you have dots up there anyway? Yeah. Out here. It's basically the same shape of pretzel. And it is it's the perfect shape of pretzel, I would argue. I hope somebody heard my joke that I said in there because three of us were talking. ⁓ but I'm gonna bring it out again. Kate said, We're still on pretzels, and then I said salt. That's what salt says. We're still on pretzels. ⁓ okay. There's a quote from Salt. Do you wanna do you wanna give him some applause? Thank you, Nate, for saying it was a it's a quote from Salt. That's all my time, folks. They're they're playing me off with the music. It's time for the weekly report. Let's do the weekly report. Week, week week week week week week week week weekly report. Week week week week week week week week week weekly report. Weekly report. ⁓ I continue to go through it. I continue to go through it here. It never stops raining. It's a mosquitoes, ⁓ it's a plague of mosquitoes. Yesterday night, Dave or Dale pulled his truck into the garage because someone broke into his truck. That's no fun. ⁓ no. Living in a shitty neighborhood is not the best. ⁓ so he he's decided to park his truck in the garage. But it was his first time getting in, so there was a lot of arranging to do, figuring out how to get it done. Garage door was open for I would say ten minutes. Ten minutes. I'm gonna. Conservatively estimate there was 150 mosquitoes in the garage after that. Like it was it was in I put on bug spray to sit in my office. I put on bug spray to sit in my office. Now, question the whole time that door was open while he was trying to figure it out, were you staring at the door like ⁓ there's just being like, there's nothing to be done. There's just nothing to be done about this. It's just how Yeah, it's been the three B's this week. It's been bugs, basements flooding, and also I was renovating the bathroom at work and it was a never ending it was a never ending ⁓ trial of my patients. Sounds terrible. Terrible three Bs. You can tell how much it's No, I'm right. Like I it it it hurt. It hurt me. Let me just I'll try to explain like Every it was one of these projects where every single thing I did made another job. So it was like did one thing, I bought all this wood, I cut all those miters, I put all the wood against the wall in the bathroom, but my stud finder was broken. So I put some holes in one piece of wood that didn't go into studs. That piece of wood is dead. Fucking throw it out, recut it. Okay. I got a millimeter measuring tape. I can get it back to the exact millimeter. This is fine. Cut a new piece of wood, stain it, bring it. The stain is different. It looks different. ⁓ my god. On the wood, different color. I'm like, okay, this is fine. I'll go buy another piece of wood. I've got a millimeter measuring tape. I'll cut this piece of wood, stain it. Ran out of ran out of clear coat finish spray can. I'm like, okay, that's fine. That's fine. Nothing to worry about. I just go to the store and I buy a new can of clear coat finish. Go to the store, buy a can of clear coat finish, come back. Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, won't spray out. Just like this. It won't work. I'm like, okay, that's fine. Just go exchange this. Exchange the can. Bring it home. Same thing. I'm like, okay, all the finish at this store has expired. I'm going to a different Home Depot. I go to a different Home Depot. Swap the can. Third can. Bring it home. No. On the wood. No. So I'm like, okay, that's fine. That's fine. That's fine. I'll go buy a new can of finish, a different kind. It won't no one will ever know. Put on the new finish. It's a thousand times shinier. It's so much shinier than the other finish. The minute I put the wood, it looks like I got it for two different continents. This wood. I'm like, okay, that's fine. I'll just take this wood off the walls and spray it with the new the old wood and spray it with the new finish. I take the wood off the walls. Every piece of wood peels the paint off of the walls in the bathroom. I got a patch. I gotta repaint the bathroom. I gotta stain the wood. ⁓ it took me an extra week. It took me an extra week and I almost lost my goddamn mind. ⁓ I would have just burned the bathroom down. Would you think that's burning it all down? It so hard not to just give up and be like, I guess we just have to live with failure. Let's just accept failure and live with it for the rest of my life. But I've never seen you look like have the look of like I've just been going through it so bad. So are you done with the bathroom? It's finished. The project is officially finished now. And I it looks great. I had to make one compromise. I couldn't find a brass washer to hold this one piece with the dry wine. So I had to use silver washers. I've accepted that. That's fine. That's fine. That's it's okay. I don't have to kill myself over that. ⁓ so those were the three, and then my basement. We had to fix the foundation. It was a whole process of like you gotta. You can make the hole bigger. To fix the hole, you gotta make the hole bigger. You never would have guessed this. But we so we had to get a special bit, drill into the concrete, put special tubes inside it and squirt foam into the tubes. And I don't know if it worked yet or not, because it kinda c wow bubbled out in different places. We'll see. It's supposed to rain later this week. We'll find out if we fixed it or not. And then if it didn't work, I don't know what the fuck to do. I guess call a guy. Call a Johnny Foundations. I'm so impressed that you did that on your own. Me and Andy did. Yeah. Me and Andy did. That's great. ⁓ it works. Was it made for that? It was just for that it was made for that. Yeah, crack repair. Yep. And we followed all the we followed all the instructions. You have to like put mortar over it and then squirt the foam in and some of the foam came back into the house side through the mortar. I'm like, ⁓ that might be bad. It might be okay. We'll see. If we'll see if the foam found its way into the crack. And if it did then we're fine and then don't have to be live in the woo in the water. I don't have to live in the water. I'd love for you to be back on land. God, I would love to be back on land and I'm a land guy, not like Kate. I dun never I wasn't born with my sea legs like Kate. I'm not a salty dog like that. I told my friends this week that I'm never they asked about video games and I'm just Nate clearly has made me I just I only play video games that take place in the sea. Hmm. So I'm a sea guy now too. So hopefully I'm sorry. That you're not with us anymore. Well, I I'm being f I am right now. Right now we're all sea guys. Hopefully we get back to two sea guys, one land guy real soon. Are one of you a fire guy? Is one of you a fire guy? ⁓ I love a fire. That's maybe the most annoying thing about the mosquitoes, is I want to have fires with my friends, but nobody in this world wants to sit outside right now. It's it's untenable. This is not possible. Do fans help? Are fans strong enough to blow the air so that the mosquitoes can't fly in the breeze of the fan? I feel like they're making real hearty mosquitoes in Alberta because they were born in the storm. Once you're born once you're storm born, a storm born mosquito. They're pretty str they're pretty strong. Terrible mosquitoes water in a plastic bag with pennies. I think I've seen people do that. What's that, new? I think I think I think that's the move. I think it works. I don't know. What does it do? I don't know. I've I never questioned it. But like what is the purpose of it? Keeps mosquitoes away. Like a old, like it's like one of those old folk solutions. Like you rub potatoes on your sick kid's foot and obviously okay, no one's taking this serious. ⁓ I'm not taking pennies in a Ziploc bag serious. Don't do it. You know what? Don't do it. Don't do it. Just get eaten. Sit in your big bug house just get eaten. Listen, the some of those things work. My grandma used to put bacon fat on my infected gr ingrown toenails when I was a kid. Okay. And that would and wrap it. No, it's just it's your now it's your body's natural solution is to cure an injury. So when you have an ingrown toenail, it cures itself. But you already got bacon fat on there, so everyone thinks ⁓ it's the bacon fat. I don't like that you're disrespecting the memory of Lewis. Don't you I don't like that we disrespect the memory of and we made fun of the pennies in the bag. You'll have to beep out with her name again. ⁓ yeah. Don't forget. And then Pennies in water bag. I'm Googling it. Yeah. Be really funny if it has nothing to do with pennies or water bag. No, it's intended it's intended to repel flies. The theory is that the light refracting through the walk. What do you think fucking mosquitoes do? Walk? I'm with Kate. Flies and mosquitoes, they're the different animals. Okay. I'm putting the phone away. I'm not even talking about I'm not even gonna talk about water or and light refraction. That's what the science is. It's water and light refra refraction. I'm not even gonna talk about it because it's not to be taken serious. Flies and mosquitoes are exactly the same thing. ⁓ my god. I can't wait till a bug guy gets we're gonna get such a good email about this. This is ⁓ my god. I I've never heard you say such a stupid thing. I've said a lot of stupid things are way more stupid than that. No, it's not. But flies and mosquitoes are the same. Yes. They're the same. No one's making flies regurgitate and mosquitoes ingest. Gotcha. Just off the top. Just off the top. Fucking dictionary, Kate, today. Mosquitoes are the Dracula of the sky, and flies are something else. I don't like what you're doing. I don't like what you're doing. You're make you're dumbing a damn you're trying to put it in brent code so I understand. Yeah, mosquitoes are the Dracula and flies are the elephants. It's really very obvious. Yes. It makes total sense. Yes, what you're saying. Both Examples make sense. I don't like what you're saying. Flies. Cats in the sky. Okay. So mosquitoes are the Dracula of the sky and flies are the cats of the sky. Mm-hmm. Continue Nate. so ⁓ in addition to the three Bs, I did also do my three D's, of course. I lifted the weights, I drank the dairy, and I read I read a big chunk of the Dosteevsky. I got I'm almost done. And shit was popping off. Turbo baddie Natasha Philippova is back in town. Fathers are fighting with sons. Brothers are turning against brothers. She's got a she's got a crew of 10 men following her around. She go she walks to the outdoor amphitheater. She walks up to a dude, says, Guess what? Your uncle killed himself. His friend gets in her face. She takes his riding crop, slaps him in the face with his riding crop. He goes to fight her. Ten guys beat the shit out of that guy. It was a was a it was it was a scene. What is going around starting trouble? I I get the feeling that Natasha Philipova kinda likes to start trouble. I kind of feel like she's kinda into and secret marriage proposals, ⁓ secret meetings planned. ⁓ I'm gonna be sitting at this bench at seven in the morning. We'll s we're gonna see. We're gonna see what happens. I have absolutely read this book, but it's been so long ago because I remember that part for some reason. I speaking of the dairy, I thought of you guys last I went to a farmer's market and Melissa bought chocolate milk from a creamery. And I thought of you two. I bet it's fucking good. It was good. You had to shake it because all the chocolates at the Jersey chocolates, Jersey milk chocolate. Yeah. It and I was like, ⁓ that's the name of the cow, Jersey Cow. And That's then I said that's why they're called Jersey milk virus. And Melissa was she didn't has never said she was, but I could tell she was a big You could tell that she was like, Wow. Was it a whole milk? Yeah. ⁓ yeah. Creamery. Yeah, yeah. They're fucking around. I accidentally bought cottage cheese that wasn't two percent milk fat, it was four percent milk fat. What that exists? Apparently, Nate, I was curious about what level of cottage cheese you're engaging. Well, I'm at 2%. I tried the 1% and I did not care for it. I said I need a soupier cottage cheese. I need a s I this is too dense. The the 4% is super dense. Okay. It's like it doesn't I like a little I want creamier. And this is like jam packed protein. This is like put them in some manicotti kind of cottage cheese. Yes. ⁓ what a fucking show we have. What a show. I'm just sitting listening I'm listening to you two banter back and forth about this. I'm like, this is the most it's the funniest, most informative movie podcast. We're only what forty-eight minutes in. We haven't talked about the movie yet. What a what is a movie? But you but Nate, you make a good point. I now really want to make lasagna with it. Yeah. ⁓ I may I put Kata She's doing it on my phone. I know, but like the four percent it was more expensive. And I just was like, well, if I like two, I'll like four. I like the thick cream. I'm gonna back to two. Yeah. I'm gonna go back to two's the spot for ⁓ with sour ⁓ with sour cream. I it's usually fourteen percent milk fat. I went and got the eighteen percent restaurant style. Mm. What'd you think? Yeah. I don't I don't like sour cream. I mean, I don't dislike it, so I don't really partake in it. Melissa liked it a lot. She likes a thick cream. And that's the weekly report. ⁓ Now I'm angry and speaking of angry Perfect. We w yeah, we watched the third pick. Why did I say the third? We watched the third pick in this month. It's Nate's month, Adult Eyes. No, adult mouths. Adult mouth yeah. So it was my pick and I went with a lot of people think that ⁓ it was third pick for audience pick. It's not, it was my pick. I'm sorry I sent that ⁓ tweet out a week early, but this was my original pick. ⁓ I did message people that did say it and told them to pick another I picked ⁓ Angry No, Twelve Angry Men. You sure did. ⁓ You did. Yep. And now it's my favorite time of the podcast. Kate, tell us all about twelve Angry Men. Well, it's a story of a deliberation after a murder trial. The murder trial is the the scenario is a younger ⁓ b non white boy killed his father. And the the jurors go in there and the first vote is eleven guilty, one not guilty. And the not guilty guy is ⁓ what's his name guys? Henry Bonda. Henry Fonda in the movie is the deliberation in Henry Fonda explaining why this is not a slam dunk case. And it brings out the individual prejudices of each of the men. Each of the men bring a a new ⁓ insight into some of the evidence that was being presented. And at the end, we ⁓ come to find out that they all vote not guilty. And so they let this young man go because they had reasonable doubt. And it all takes place in one room, and it's very hot. ⁓ they're sweating. And they're a lot of good sweat work. They're angry. Shouting. A lot of shouting. That was that's 12 angry men. Yep. That's right. Perfect. That's it's excellent. Excellent job, Kate. Why don't we talk about ⁓ our favorite parts of the movie and if we liked it? I would love to hear what you guys think about this movie. Do we like it? ⁓ I love it. I may I liked it. I don't care to watch it again. You know? I I liked it a lot. Melissa didn't like it. Didn't like the way she's like, they're all talking like see, man. I'm like, yeah, that's the way people talk back then, Melissa. There is a lot of wh, see. She made the same face, Kate, yes. I mean, I don't think people talked like that back then, but I think it's literally a movie from 1957 they're all talking like that. But but that's like they that's when they still made movies like for movies, like plays. Like now we have a more realistic dialogue. Like they're obviously it w it did feel slightly stilted at times, but I did there were great scenes. I was very bored the first half of this movie, I'll be honest. Like what do you mean is not white? He looked pretty white. No, that's the whole racist thing. Anybody who wasn't like super white was white. And now like Italians are white. ⁓ okay. But even back in the day, it's kind of like the Irish people weren't even white to them, you know. They were kind of like they were really rowdy about it. Well, that's well deserved. Also, there's two whole scenes of pointing out the racism inside the jury. Really? I didn't I I Yes, he goes that. He keeps going to end. That one guy who's like, you know them, you know what they're like. Exactly. Yes. Wow, I didn't pick up on that. I just thought he was talking about hoodlums. See, I don't see color. It was Italian racial. Yeah, it was Italian. What do we think about the littering? The littering. The guy threw the gum wrapper out the window. I hated it, but it also was like everyone just accepted it. Like, what a sign of the times. I think that's fair play though. I think gum wrapper is fair play. I don't see the point of littering a gum wrapper. How hard is it to put in your pocket from a building that high? That's just that's not gonna go anywhere. That's I'm like, here's what I if it was a banana peel, I was like, actually, yeah, I don't want that banana peel in the garbage can of the hot jury room. That's gonna it's gonna smell like a compost pile. You got bugs on your mind now. So of course you're gonna think fruit flies right away. I definitely am gonna think so. That's not you you're going to see, this is you're not going into this movie The Clear Mind. You're going in With the fly mind, yeah, with the bias, the bug bias. They had a huge jug of water that had to have been ninety-five degrees. Yeah. That's warm water. And the old man was faint and declined the cup of water. I'm like, what are you doing, guys? That's a big dog move though. Like not a big dog move. You want a glass of hot water. That's fair. Passing out in a room filled with this guy smoking pipes. There's guys ripping fucking heaters. Did that room smell? Just imagine what that room smelled like. I forgot how good that was, the old man to say no to the water after almost passing out. And that got coughing all over the place. He's right though about hot weather colds. There's that's I'd rather have a cold a cold weather cold than a hot weather cold. Yeah, I was gonna I I couldn't think of what to say because I didn't want to like give me that voodoo of having it. Smart. Did you just knock a fly away? There's mosquitoes in my office right now. I just saw I can see it. Yeah, I just saw it. They're gonna take over the show. That is a big dog. Yeah. That had some. It's a stormborns mosquito. Yeah, I'm telling you, there's it's a plague. There's a plague going on here. Good. ⁓ listen, I got a take about this movie. ⁓ no one would have made this movie way better. Tell us. Gregory Gregory Peck or the guy that we talked about, Jimmy Stewart. Henry Fonda, Simp Cock, doesn't have it, bad hairline, jittery, sweaty. This is a take. Didn't believe a word he said. I thought he was I thought he was terrible. I don't think he should have been actor. He should have stayed in the war. And he was terrible in this movie. I wouldn't listen to a word he said. If he had said not guilty, this movie would have been two minutes. I would said, no, we don't listen to White Suit. Like that one guy. This guy's crazy. Why are we listening to it? I didn't. Yeah, I think it's weird. I have a hard time judging acting from generations before I was alive because I think it has such a different style. And I don't I'm not to the extreme of Brent, but I I agree that I didn't like I don't know. He was like, This is such a great act you know what I mean? And I was like, Yeah, I mean that's good. Like Who said that he's such a great actor? Me. Everybody. Like he's a well known I sa I think I sa I said he was a one of the big papas of acting like ⁓ Daniel Day Lewis. No, he's one he's one of the small papas. No, he's a big papa. And I think you c you kind of nailed it by accident. Where you're talking about how like a bunch of this people in this movie are doing the transatlantic accent, like ⁓ she bruh, we gotta get this kid into jail. See? He's not doing that at all. I think this is like a moment in time where the transition is occurring. Where it's like he is doing natur the natural acting. A couple other people are doing a little bit of natural and a couple of the people in this movie are doing theater acting and it's all it's being mixed together. But in the context of the time, he's actually like pretty subdued. He's pretty like guy, he's normal guy trying to trying to get these guys on his side. So I I found the performance really good, actually. Can I push back lightly on that? You may push back hard if you'd like. I think everyone talked like that back in the day. Like, man, see, like I I think that's the way everyone talked. Because if they didn't talk like that, then why is there even a reference to that? They talked like that. And I think he overacted so hard. He tried to be different and make it different. And he ended up fucking it up. He ended up ruining the role for himself and the movie. Anyone would have been he got his. ass handed to him by the the the the guy the crazy guy the guy that was Lee J Cobb to the very end yeah number whatever he the last one the holdout yeah he showed Henry Fonda how an actor is and what to do and how to act and ⁓ what was the second part you said about you said he the translated accent and then he's being naturalistic compared to the other guys. No After that, after that. He's just a guy trying to convince him doing a acting like ⁓ yeah, you said he was calm and cool about it. Murder trial's not the time to be passive. This is everything's gotta be amped up to ten. This is a a life we're talking about. It wasn't everybody's like there were s the interjections of the points. Like I did like that about the writing. Is like everybody each of the ones that voted guilty came to it on their own through the argument they were making for themselves. ⁓ and I just really disliked the holdout. He's such like a like fart pant. ⁓ he was he's a very damaged person. There were may he there were so many good points being made about the ev the evidence and he it's like a Trump supporter. I think he was MAGA. There's so much of the present in this movie. Like just the Yeah. Especially that like harsh punishment theory. That has like come back a lot, especially in conservative circles where they're like, This is the way we deal with problems. You just like lock everybody up. And once you just throw away the key, then everything will be fine once we get rid of these one group of people that's causing all the trouble. Like with just everything will be fine. It's very like It's back. It has returned. It it never left. The these guys, these guys had kids, and those guys had kids, and they had kids, and they just teach them the same shit all the way down from nineteen fifty-five. Like I read I read an interesting book on that from a philosopher about jail and torture. Foucault. JL. Jail or JL? Jail. Jail. What? No, what do you Kate's got a Thing to say. No, I say JL Weird. Do I say JL? It sounded a little you added a little spice to it. That's me. It's me. It's me. No, Nate's doing the thing again. He's agreeing. He got the big smile on. I say JL Weird. It's the it's the similar to how you say southern. You you southern break up some. I say southern weird. You say southern. Yeah, you say southern sometimes. Sometimes that's it. You say southern. Yeah. Sometimes. I don't agree. It's just part of your accent. Any other words I say fucking far fucking weird? I bet I bet you will by the end of the show, and then I can point it out to you and see how that goes. Yeah, point them out as we go along. Yeah, point it out. I'm gonna bring it back to the movie. Where were all the ladies? It's a good question. Call twelve angry men, Kate. ⁓ twelve angry men, what's this? A Tom Segura show? ⁓ that's good. Hey, they got divorced. Yeah. Go on, really? Who would have saw that coming? I hate that me and him have the same color beard. He's such a piece of shit. Get his ass. ⁓ He's a piece of shit. I don't like him. He's got people, his fans, the the poorers. Atrocious vibe. What does he call the the poor? Because he got money now because he fucking cashed in with fucking Joe Rogan and moved out of Texas. And he lost weight and he left his wife. Atrocious. He got on the on the Azempic and all of a sudden he's losing weight to your best friend's Burke Chrysler. Yeah, ⁓ but yeah, I like Burke Kreischer too, because he seems like a genuine guy. He likes his wife a lot. Which I like. Yeah, he seems lost in life though. He seems like if he needs lost He was he do you know his backstory? Yeah. He was like, Yeah. Yeah. Tom Segura has me and him in the same beards, exact same coloring in the exact same spots, and I hate it. It drives me nuts. His wife Christina and Hib's podcast is terrible. He makes fun of people. He doesn't seem like a nice person. He lost weight and he's not funny, but he has a d deal with the devil with Netflix, and they're just gonna like keep pumping that shit out for some reason. Has anybody watched his show? No, I don't partake in Segura. He just has bad vibes. It's been bad vibes all around. Atrocious. if we're talking about that thing, ⁓ the coffin guy, he's at that point you gotta get him asking to leave the room. ⁓ he was being rude with it. I think feel like he the guy with the cough drops or no. It was the guy who's blowing the summer cold. Okay. And rubbing the snotty handkerchief in his arm. He does the super racism that's even too racist for 1950s that everyone gets up. or off or from the table and turns their back to him, which I like that scene a lot. That's the guy. That is hard. I've really has an uncle like coughing guy. I feel like he was doing this thing where when someone was making a good point for not guilty, he was like throwing in extra coughs in the middle of their like speaking and they kept being like pausing and like looking at him. And I was like, ⁓ that's such a nice touch of like their ⁓ he's he's using the cough to interrupt, but pretending he's not interrupting. Manipulative. Mm-hmm. Know how I knew we were wa we were watching a film and not a movie? This is how I knew we were watching a film. Yeah. When the guy was being questioned about what movies he saw and he was kind of fucking it up and he started sweating. earlier in the movie they established that he doesn't he doesn't sweat. And he's the only one who keeps his suit jacket on. It's like he he keeps the suit jacket on. He's not sweating. Everyone else is like taking their shit off and sweating. And then that when that one beat of sweat comes, you're like, ⁓ this is a film. We're at the cinema right now. This is a film. I'm like, okay, I class it up a bit. This is we're not watching the end, they all would have been soaking wet. There wouldn't be a dry part of the shirt. You know what I mean? Especially so the foreman, he was like very sweaty the whole time. And I think that his whole shirt should have been wet. Yep. I might take a point off of production design. You might get it. They should have took it to an extreme and just have one guy completely soaked like that video for that picture from back. If this was Kansas City in two thousand twenty six, I guarantee you somebody would have had their entire shirt off by the end of that. The Missouri courthouse. Just 12 sweaty men in the sauna. Yes, with no air conditioning? You ⁓ you have to ask the baseball guy to leave the room as well. Like we're we your one-liners aren't funny. You get up at off the your chair after everything you say. That's not a good move anymore. Who gives a fuck if you got Yankee tickets? He had the highest pants out of all of them. I did a I did a comparative Analysis of how high everyone's pants were, and I decided that his pants were up the highest. Those look good though. I think we're wearing our pants too low. I don't think we need to wear them that high. I mean, he was almost touching nip. He was close to the nip. I love high pants. If you are of a certain age, you can't wear low rise. I'm sorry. Yep. Yep. Also, if you have suit pants on, you should you are not actually wearing suit pants if they're low rise, because that's not what suit pants are. Yep. This is the problem. People think wanna try to look cool with their suit. Or you know what I mean? They wanna try to put your personality in it. But like ⁓ if you wanna actually look good in the suit, you have to kind of leave your personality at the door and just get like a really well fitted. Yeah. You kind of I mean, you get to have personality through like patterns and things, but when it comes to fit, don't fuck with the fit. Like that's been perfected after hundreds of years. Like It's the rare exception where you gotta let the suit wear you. You gotta let the suit wear you. ⁓ it's yeah. And if you do, then you end up wearing it. Got ya. That's that is Eastern Eastern philosophy right there. You did say Eastern. I just wanna throw that out there. Just add that to the list. I'm like that. It took three three years for you guys to say this. Let's be I'm worried. I'm d now I'm feeling about Brent. I'm worried about Brent. I don't think we should be talking to him about His pronunciation. I it doesn't matter because I like the way I speak and I'll never change for anything. I you don't. So if I say Eastern, that's fine. And that's the way I like to say it. That's the way I'm gonna say it. I don't say jail. It's jail. I totally said jail. Okay. So I'm gonna say it one more time. You guys tell me honestly if I'm saying it fucked up. Okay. I was worried they were gonna send that poor young man to jail. You did it normal that time. Yeah. No why I say unnormal? Because I changed it. I tried to trick you. ⁓ Why did he wipe his face? Listen, those single rolls in the bathroom that don't like You would have had toilet paper all over you. You got shit hands and he's Gregory Fucking Fonda's taking a bath and it's he's rubbing his face in it. It's Henry not Gregory Fauna. There's no air movement. That smelled like a sewer in there. Just horrible. Just horrible. Henry Fonda smells like shit in this movie because he's rubbing his face in the one shit roll and he's gross. And also why did they close the ding dang windows when it started raining? Like, don't you want to be hot? You want like I had to maybe it was a sideways rain. It was coming in, it was coming in, they were like, this is gonna fuck shit up. Then why wouldn't you just stay there and be rained on? Did you here? Thank you. Here I think I did I talk about this last week. If you want to cool down when it's hot, there's a rule that I just learned. Okay. If the temperature is above n so I don't know the centigrade. So you'll have to do that for yourselves. If it's above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, fans don't work. Fans actually will get you hotter because it tricks your body into not sweating, because it I don't know, there's some science behind it. So if it's above ninety degrees, you have to spray water on yourself. You have to put water on your body to cool yourself down. If it's below 32 degrees. And if it's below ninety degrees, ⁓ fans work. Okay. So there you go. All right. So if it's above ninety degrees, you need to be spraying spritzing yourself with water and not using fans to cool down. Thank you. Like an old southern pastor. Yeah, that's right. Did you hear it? He did it on purpose for sure. I d I swear to God. I didn't do it on purpose. I just said it the way I would normally say it. Now you got me all fucked up. I'm not gonna change the way I say it. You just can't argue with us. If we're we are not the ones that live with you in that regional area. And so if we're telling you that we hear it differently, you okay you just can't argue with us. And it it adds a little spike. It's just you know what? This sh this show is a soup or gumbo is what wherever you want to talk about. And I'm just adding a a little bit of flavor into it. That's all. Absolutely. I don't think I would want to do a podcast with people that all just sounded like me. Me neither. No. I certainly wouldn't. I wouldn't be able to listen. Where are we? What do do we have? Hold on. Let me see if I have any other notes. Jets and sharks. That's what it felt like to me. At the very beginning, I felt like this is there's like some movie after what was the ⁓ what's the Jets and Sharks movie? Yeah. Like I feel like this is You were waiting for them to start snapping and clapping. Exactly. the last note I have before I give ⁓ do you have another note? I'm sorry. I had one more note and it was a line that I heard that I like and ⁓ I had two lines and one of them was somebody said ⁓ was talking to another juror and he said, You are this I could smell the smell of violent death in your nostrils, which I thought was like Violent death in your nostrils. That was pretty intense. Pretty great line. And then the racist juror, this was my favorite. The racist juror says, He don't even speak good English. And then the guy who does whose English is a second language said he doesn't even speak good English. And it was like boom. I would have come over the top with a third correction. I said, He doesn't speak English well. But go ahead, boys. Yeah. ⁓ Nate will probably only get this reference. I don't know, Kate might. that Peter Fonda is the littlest hobo of murder trials. Like he just goes to each murder trial once a week, does the right thing, makes everyone feel good the least. I like that. I like that. I like that too. That's a hard job. Well, he was especially for a dog. He was pretty brave for s for voting not guilty. It was a very like littlest hobo style bravery because everybody else It was going one way and he's like, No, let's do justice instead. Does Kate know that Little Hobo was a dog? No, I don't know what Little Hobo was a Little Hobo was a dog. I thought it was a small homeless person. Nope. No. Lilith Hobo is a little dog that traveled to Canadian towns every week. It's a TV show. Has a Canadian. They would travel to Canadian towns. Yep. Maybe tomorrow I'll wanna settle down. But he goes to each Canadian town and he solves a problem or like a mystery. Not like And his name is Little Hobo. The little No one knows his name. His name could be and no one knows, and they just he doesn't have a home. He just goes town to town. ⁓ you guys want to do a quiz? Would love to. The Angry Seven? The Angry Seven? Yes. Courtroom number did this take place in? Ooh. No. Sorry. What was the courtroom next? What would the next this p this question? Okay. Mother Brent, you're getting worse at questions. I'm just gonna say ⁓ after last week I don't think you could tell anybody about their questions came. ⁓ yeah, miss fucking solved my dream for me. What does this mean? We've been we've been getting a little freestyle with the questions lately. Yeah, a little loosey-goosey with it. ⁓ it's I Restate the question, please. What number was the courtroom next to this one? Either multiple choice or is it no. You gotta go throw a number out there. ⁓ you are Miss Fucking ⁓ two six. Two guys are we talking about? No, what are we talking about? It was the court the case took place in courtroom two twenty eight. And the one next to it was 232. Do you guys even watch this movie? How many courtrooms are there? That's too many courtrooms. I didn't imagine that there'd be that many courtrooms, I'll be, I'll be honest with you. Actually, it that's another point off production design. You guys are showing your virgin colors right now because they rooms are many. They haven't been virgin since the 90s. Listen, does Susan want to hear that? Can we go to question number two, please? Yes, we can. Forever. So the guy that we didn't like with the he's ⁓ baseball guy, he had tickets to the Yankees. Couldn't wait to get out of there. What team were they playing? Okay. Were the Yankees playing? The Spiders, the Indians, the Braves, the Brewers. You dirty Spiders. You dirty dog. Because I knew it was Cleveland. Spiders. Because Brett's being real tri tricky because Cleveland used to have a baseball team named the Spiders and the Braves and the Indians. And he said all the Cleveland baseball teams, and we gotta figure out which Cleveland baseball team it is, because he's being a tricky little guy. Well, I'm picking the Brewers. I'm picking the Brewers. That's a good guess. What were they called in 57? What were they called in 57? Braves. No. Brewers. Well. He had tickets to watch ⁓ the Yankees versus the Cleveland Indians. ⁓ he's a double trick. It was a double trick. Double trick. Gone forever. the young defendant in this movie, his mother died. At what age was this young man when his mother died? Was he eight, nine, ten, or eleven? I'm gonna say nine years old. I'm gonna say ten. Well, okay, I'm gonna give you a little bit of advice. Based on your verbal usage there, you weren't sure of your answer. And you didn't believe in your answer. You went. And you were wrong. So that's why. Great. Thank you. Nine is the correct answer. And I said it with quite a bit of confidence, I would say. That helped. Confidence wasn't there. The con I could I could tell. ⁓ initial vote. ⁓ they voted s they all wrote their answers down and they ⁓ wanted to see ⁓ no, it was the scene where they wrote their answers down and passed it to the to the foreman and he read the notes the guilty, the guilty, the guilty. How many votes were read before not guilty? ⁓ I that's a good question. I think I can figure this out. Out of the 12 votes, how many votes are read before not guilty was shown? the first time? Yeah. Or when they wrote them down. When they wrote them down. I wouldn't have read them in order because they were on paper. They could have gotten mixed up. So I'm not gonna use jury numbers to decide this. I'm gonna say it's Kate's turn, so I'm not gonna say shit. I just say six. ⁓ that's what I was gonna say, so now I'll say seven. You guys are both wrong. It was ten. ⁓ my god. It got deep into it. Yeah, that's suspense. That's really good. I thought they were gonna go and they did a good thing by not making it the last one because I assumed it was gonna be the last one, but they made it the second last one. Got him. Good. Very good. is the watchmaker married? Yes or no? No. Yes. He was very much married. He raised his hand when he said not guilty. And there was a big old wedding ring on it. That's that's you'd have to be a good Sherlock to get that. I the reason I said no is because I thought he was married to the game. Watch the watchmaking game. That's what I thought it was gonna be. That he has committed his life to gears and cogs instead of insert rhyme that's funny with wife. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Gears and cogs. Yeah. Gears and cogs and so things ladies are famous for. Vlogs being an obvious like Talks about women's legs by calling them logs. Yeah. So the logs on that one. Wouldn't mind being taking her to the sawmill. Yeah. I've heard that many times before. Wouldn't mind, yeah. Instead of whistling and going like the saw. Start chasing her making that noise. We we have a little bit of map we had got interpreted juror hats on for this question. ⁓ they did a famous recreation of the old man getting out of bed and going to the door to see the kid stabbing his dad. What is the time difference between what the old man said and what the recreation was? Okay. Does that make sense? Yep. Yes. Who's answering first? I think it's me. Yep. I think it was 25 seconds, was the difference. 26 seconds. Well, man told the ever everybody took him 15. The recreation was 41, a difference of 26 seconds. Congratulations. You got it right. It was 41. What? What is the official name for a fan ook it's first to say it out loud? What is the official name for the fan moving back and forth? Oscillation. Good job. So the quiz is over? Yeah, quiz is over. Brent crushed us. I'm sorry. I got distracted. I'm sorry. That's fine. Congratulations, Brent. Congratulations, Brent. It's time for your compliments. Yes, I want. Of course I want compliments. Two weeks in a row, I'm getting compliments. Yeah, I don't even think we're gonna offer the option of spelling anymore because the compliments is just such a great, it's such a great friend moment for the North American Friends Movie Club. It really is. Brent, I really like how. ⁓ we can have fun and I can say mean things and you you let me bully you and is admitting you're a bully a compliment to me? Well, I think what it is is that you make me feel safe enough to be mean to you. There we go. You're comparing me to a little bit of gay like ⁓ Ancala, which is the harbor, which makes you feel safe. Thanks in the harbor. ⁓ yes, absolutely. Yeah, there was some gay look at yeah. ⁓ my compliment to you is literally this week ⁓ I saw that the City of Boston posted your Patrick Swayze hazy tweet. Whoa, whoa, and ⁓ the city of Boston City of Boston, they did. They they went ahead and did that because it was hazy in Boston, and I had a genuine moment where I was like, I'm friends with the funniest tweeter of all time. I had that like genuine thought came to my mind. I was like And then I had a little debate in my head. I was like, it's either Joyce Carroll Oates, legendary literary heavyweight or Brent. I'm like, it's either JCO or Brett. What their neck and neck for best tweeter of all time. You literally can't throw a rock in Boston, Massachusetts, without hitting someone that's heard of Patrick Swayze and getting hazy. That's right. It's still not your best tweet. Your best tweet is ⁓ that you ate your wife. Yeah, I think Crab ate my wife is my favorite Brent tweet as well. It's better than Grinks. You know, Grink, you'll be remembered for Grink, you'll be remembered for Patrick Hazey, but Ivy my wife was Yeah. Ivy changed the way I approached the game. My head's getting like yeah, my head's getting too big. Like I just remembered that the dictionary re retreated the yeah, the Grink. My head's getting too big. You're right. Thank you for the thank you for the compliments. I appreciate it. You're welcome. ⁓ I give ⁓ I give you a huge in Boston. Ten I give you a ten ⁓ then what do we do, Ray? We do medals first. What's what's our acronym again? Fancy Quipsters Mary Rich. So we've done the quicksters. Do you want to do an email segment right now? Sure. I I got them primed and ready. We got some emails. This is the email segment. ⁓ first email is from Mr. Peter Lynch. Nate Sleagal. ⁓ it's ⁓ comp or it's titled Nate's Legal and Emotional Future. ⁓ dear Nate, I just listened to the set off set it off episode of your show in which you express your extreme desire to marry Holly Barry. This is no surprise since we all know that Friski Quipsters marry Rich. A reminder, I pretend to be an entertainment lawyer online. If you'd like, I can reach out to other colleagues in the fake entertainment law industry in case any of them have secured real contact info from Miss Barry. If successful. All I would ask in return is two dance lessons and the honor to write the prenup for your wedding. I believe in you, Pete. I I agree. I agree to your terms, Pete. And if if you can get in touch with Halleberry's fake ⁓ agent and set up a fake first date, I will be fake happy. ⁓ Yep. I wanna the next email is my favorite email we've ever got. It's from Travy Wills. ⁓ Big Dog. Hey guys. Travis Wilson here, aka Travis Will Travis Wills. I'm still an enthusiastic listener to the podcast of the podcast, and I think what you're all doing with it is terrific. I feel that the show continues to get better and better. I come for the movie takes, but stay for the dynamic and hilarious banter between you three. I've even adopted some of your lines in my day-to-day lexicon. God has asked comes to mind. I listen when I can. I travel quite a bit for work, so I typically listen when we're on planes. However, I haven't been traveling so much this summer, so I'm behind by a few episodes. The last one I listened to was Men in Black. I'm delighted whenever you mention me, like Brent did during Kate's story about chasing the run runaway kite in the episode. I love the ongoing bit about Kate doing something embarrassing, and somehow I just happened to be there to witness it. Also yeah, also separately, Kate. I'd like to get some details on your KC Kite Club. My kids have been eager to fly a kite and this sounds like a great opportunity. All my best traffic wheels. I want to be friends with Travis in real life. Wait, the KC Kite Club is KCKC. KC KFC, Kansas City Kite Flyers Club. Yeah, KC K C I will but we're you know, that's fine. Yeah, that's good. Yeah. No, I will let you know the next time we're organizing. I have Well ⁓ I have a DM that qualifies as an email that I said I would read as an email. ⁓ this is from David. It says, hey, Nate fan out of the podcast. I'm not religious, but tell Brent I think Book of Mormon might qualify as the New Testament part two. That's because we were saying we wanted a part two. So we're just gonna throw that out there. ⁓ I watched murder among the Mormons, and I it listened, there's like golden lizards, and it's really tough. There's a lot. There's a lot going on in that one. Yeah. Joseph Smith. Yeah. And I f the guy that forged his documents, it's really good. All right, let's rate this pig. ⁓ yeah. No. Medals. Is it rated? Mary we gotta marry before we're rich. Bronze medals. There's a lot of great performances. I think everybody does a very good job in this movie, personally. there's three people that stand out the most to me. So I will give my bronze medal to Ed Bagley Sr. We've seen Ed Bagley Jr. before on this podcast in a mighty wind. Classic comedy dude. dad. He's he's he's the guy who is so racist, everybody gets up from the table in nineteen fifty-seven. That's pretty racist. He really did it. Yep. He's gonna get mine too, because I agree that he did a great job of I believe that he's actually a racist man. Mm-hmm. ⁓ my bronze is going to Jack Klugman, part of the odd couple. He was the first he was the first kind of guy to to be swayed. And he was like a little dumb when I would start the whole effect. Silver medals. Silver. ⁓ who I like this guy, ⁓ Martin Balsam, but I forget I remember He was journal, he was the foreman, sweaty guy, yeah. He was great, liked him, yeah. He was great in the movie for sure. He had the series for people tracking home, second highest pants. So he was close, yeah. Yeah, and very sweaty, but not sweaty enough. Yep. ⁓ I'm gonna give my silver to Henry Fonda. And I know you he didn't win you guys over as much. Definitely not Brent. I could see the Gregory Peck in there. Gregory Peck could have handled this. And so I don't disagree with that, but I I'm just a big Henry Fonda fan, especially in the movie Once Upon a Time in the West, where he plays a bad guy in a Western. And I thought that's good. He gets my silver. ⁓ my silver is going to the old man, Joseph Sweeney, and saying close up on him for some reason, his first scene. ⁓ and then he big dog everybody when he fainted because of the heat and he was offered water and he's like, No, no, no thing. No water he was great. He was the he's the big dog of the room. Yeah. That's why he gets my gold. ⁓ I don't know. He has a face I want to look at. Yeah. He's a sweet old man face. Also, I think he is born the earliest of any actor that I have ever given an A medal to he was born in eighteen eighty four. Holy shit. Holy fuck. Yeah. He may be the oldest person to get ⁓ he's hot comment on the show. Yeah. I'm giving my gold to Lee J. Cobb. I think he he plays the last guy to be convinced. ⁓ he beat beat up his son and then his son ran away and he's racist and he's just fallen apart, his life's falling apart. He's a man he's so angry, he's chewing gum like a madman. Sweaty, powerful. Great. He gets my gold medal. Yeah. Yeah. Lee J Cobb for me. ⁓ which is hard to do because you're named after Corin and the Cobb, which the that deducts points, and he has a butt-in. Butchin, don't like that, but he did good. ⁓ he gets my gold. ⁓ and one thing we will say about researching these actors, ⁓ for this, everybody was married three or four times. And all we stuck with the OG. Yeah. Yeah. They all got divorces. And if you look at them, it's all like the first marriage is like 32 years, the second marriage is like two years, and then the third marriage is like seven years. That's like the distribution of marriages. Yep. Even the old Joseph Sweeney, he was couldn't help themselves. Couldn't help themselves. Well, you basically had to get married if you wanted to fuck back then, so they just got married a lot. In eighteen eighty in eighteen eighty four, yeah. ⁓ I give us a ten out of ten for our medals, would you like to give this movie a rating? Yes. Yeah. The script for this movie, it was a a ⁓ p a teleplay first. It was on TV first and that's where Henry Fonda saw it. And then they made it into a movie a few years later. ⁓ I think it's the best part of this movie is the script. I think it's like the ⁓ the it's it's a s kind of a smart idea. Usually a courtroom drama takes place in the courtroom, but to do it in the jury room is like hey, bonus points for thinking that through. I give it a ten. I think it's great. Yeah, I think the dialogue is the strongest thing about it. The points that are being made. I agree. I'm giving it a ten. ⁓ yeah, I it is the strongest thing about it, but it was just repeated too many times. I couldn't listen to the cough guy talk about what do you mean? You we saw him kill ⁓ is too many. Yeah, we get the point. ⁓ it was only an hour and a half, but it could have been ten minutes shorter. Nine. Okay. That's pretty good. Our direction for this movie, the sets, the props, the costumes, beautiful black and white. I really l also like the way this is filmed. It starts really far back in the co in the jury room. Like the cameras has l everybody in the shot at once for at the beginning, and then the middle it gets a little closer and by the end it's like up in everybody's face as they're yelling at each other. It gets more and more intense and builds and it's the first Film for Sydney Lumet, I think. I'm gonna give it a nine point five. It was it was I don't even know why I'm docking it point five. I thought it was great, but I I just don't want to go that far. I'm not I'm not ready. The production? Is that what this is? Yeah, the art direction, yeah. Art direction gets an eight. ⁓ inconsistent sweat work, case right. Yes. not They didn't show people drinking enough water. People would have been sick, sucking back water left and right. And I hate the scene where Henry Fonda was basically just taking a full body bath with that one thing, but he just wiped his beard comb on. Ate the music for this movie. What did you guys think about the music for this movie? Yeah. Yeah. You don't even really remember it. Yeah, it was it was like fine, but it was pretty unremarkable. And there was it wasn't like dun dun dun when some evidence comes in, it wasn't like that. So you barely even notice it. So I'll give it seven and a half. That sounds about right to me. I'll give it an eight. Yeah, no you dock a point for no bangers, and you get another dock a point if I don't remember it. So eight. Okay. Pretty good. Nah. This is genre something. The genre for this film. This is a legal drama. Gotta be about legal things and it's gotta be dramatic. It's definitely dramatic and it's definitely legal. ⁓ is it I there's I would rather be in the courtroom. I like courtroom surprises, I like audiences tittering at at at new information being revealed. So I can't give it a ten. I'm gonna give it a nine. It's great, but I don't ⁓ it's not perfect. Yeah. ⁓ there's no women. I mean no ladies. No ladies. I'm gonna give it an eight. I feel like I'm stuck on eight. ⁓ I think it showed I think no ladies is good because it showed the the flaws of man. ⁓ the folly of man. Folly of man. ⁓ I wanna give it a ten, but since it's nineteen fifty seven, there wasn't much competition. They get they had the the first crack at all the best ideas. So a nine. Okay. Like You can't you can't come up with a guy that got bit by a spider and now is a superhero now. It's already been done. But yeah, it was easier to do it before anyone did it. That's a great point. That's true. That's that's a good point. Thank you. You could be a lawyer. Yeah, like if if like if I came up with a movie and said it was thirteen angry men and takes place in the a deliberation room, I was like, Yeah, well, that's been done. So we'd have it harder than we did. Exactly. The theme this month is adult adult mouths. It's it's adults solving their issues with their mouths instead of their fists. And you know what? There's a couple of times when they it seemed like some fist of cuffs might get involved, but all of them together were like, No, let's talk it out. I think they say we gotta talk this out about twenty times in this movie. They they're really saying we gotta talk this out. So for me, ten. These mouths are talking it. From these adults, and they've sorted it out in the end. They worked through their racisms and their prejudices. Ten. Yeah. Racism was solved in 1957 by this movie. Yep. ⁓ I'm I want to say ten, but it sounds like they solved it more with their hearts than with their mouths. So nine. I like that. Thank you. I'm on one. I ⁓ agree completely. I think this is a great example of. Talk it out before you walk it out. Truly, let's talk before we send some boy to die. Yeah. It gets a 10. Yeah. 10 from Kate. Talk it out. This movie gets a 44.3. And that seems right to me. Like it's it's one of these things where it's like, I think like this film will always be rated highly by critics, by fans on all the lists, and it's worth watching if you've never watched it. And also it's like a sixty seventy year old movie and it sure it kind of feels like that. So it's ⁓ like it didn't it didn't spark nearly as much as singing in the rain did for me, which was about as old. Yeah. Right. No. So yeah. Four to four sounds about right for me. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I'll take that. We gotta pick we gotta pick an audience choice movie and get K Daddy. You wanna hear them? Yeah. Yeah, get ready. Metropolis. Glenn Gary, Glenn Ross, Reality Bites, The Assassination, The Assassination of Jesse James, Scent of a Woman, Jackie Brown, Tenet Bow's Afraid, Magnolia, The Social Network, The Great Dictator, A Few Good Men, As Good As Getz, Rain Man, Motherless Brooklyn. The Room, Clerks, Moneyball, Burn After Reading, Swingers, Spanglish, Women Talking, The Importance of Being Earnest, Clerks, Kicking and Screaming, 1995, The Noah Bombak One. Before Sunrise, Waking Life, Slacker, ⁓ Metropolitan, ⁓ The Piano Diner. Enclave, reservoir dogs. Holy shit. So I have four. I have three. I have three. Why don't you start us off, Kate? I have metropolis, motherless Brooklyn, women talking in Conclave. Okay. I have ⁓ Conclave, Jackie Brown, and Scent of a Woman. ⁓ there is one film that all three of us chose. I had Glen Gary, Glenn Ross, a few good men, and of course, the movie we'll be watching next week, Conclave. We're claving next week, guys. Have you guys seen it? Yeah. No. I I have too, and I wanted to watch it again. Yeah, I'm totally down to watch it again. I love Ray Fines, so. Let's go. ⁓ that was brought to us ⁓ by ⁓ our good friend HerdaCringe. Air. Air to cringe. Okay. Okay. Air to cringe conclave. ⁓ well I'm looking forward to watching that next week, and that means all that's left to do is say goodnight, Kate. Good night, Kate. See, it's time for the bed. Good night, Kate. Conclave. The Pope is dead. Are watching. We're about to choose the most famous man in the world. A mystery is unfolding.
