- 0:02Speaker 1: No fancy intro, no fancy music to start this episode
- 0:06Speaker 1: of the One Leg Up with Alex Garrett podcast, but
- 0:10Speaker 1: just a immemoriam as we have lost Pope Francis at
- 0:17Speaker 1: the age of eighty eight, and I feel for our
- 0:20Speaker 1: friend Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who had not gone through this
- 0:25Speaker 1: with Pope Benedict, because Pape Benedict actually retired while he
- 0:30Speaker 1: was still alive. Well for Pope Francis, he passed while
- 0:34Speaker 1: as the Pope. And more than that, you could tell
- 0:38Speaker 1: the way Cardinal Dolan has reacted to the loss of
- 0:40Speaker 1: Pope Francis. This loss hit him hard and I feel
- 0:44Speaker 1: for him tonight. I feel for him and while I
- 0:49Speaker 1: don't see him as often, just no, Cardinal Dolan, I
- 0:52Speaker 1: am praying with you as you and many inside and
- 0:55Speaker 1: outside the church community are grieving the loss of this pope.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Twenty fifteen, when he came to the city, it was
- 1:02Speaker 1: like a rock star entered town and waterwall coverage from
- 1:06Speaker 1: his trip to Saint Patrick's Cathedral and his mass that
- 1:12Speaker 1: really brought the house down. You know, you don't say
- 1:14Speaker 1: that the Church of worship, but Church of worship, but
- 1:17Speaker 1: he really did move the whole church. That night, as
- 1:21Speaker 1: he did move Congress when he spoke to Congress for
- 1:23Speaker 1: an hour and thirteen minutes that same year, and Carlin
- 1:27Speaker 1: Dolans moved so much that before he goes to the
- 1:30Speaker 1: Vatican for the funeral and the enclave, he's holding a
- 1:37Speaker 1: Mass in honor of Pope Francis tomorrow at noon at
- 1:42Speaker 1: Saint Patrick's Cathedral. I wanted to relate that message to
- 1:45Speaker 1: you and Saint Patrick's Theedil indeed confirming it as he
- 1:50Speaker 1: will do the Mass for the repose of the soul
- 1:55Speaker 1: Saint of Pope Francis on Tuesday, April twenty second, at twelve.
- 2:01Speaker 1: But of all the moments and all the things I
- 2:03Speaker 1: posted about Pope Francis, this moment, this moment, to me,
- 2:08Speaker 1: stuck out the most on how he was not just
- 2:10Speaker 1: a pope, but a person with a soul, and not
- 2:15Speaker 1: more than that, he really was the people's Pope. And
- 2:20Speaker 1: I think this example shines through that message.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Perhaps one of the most moving places in each hospital
- 2:28Speaker 2: is that of newborns. On Friday, the Pope visited San
- 2:31Speaker 2: Giovanni Hospital in Rome to see and hold some of
- 2:34Speaker 2: the smallest people. In addition to being with the babies,
- 2:37Speaker 2: he gave each crib a medal as a gift and
- 2:40Speaker 2: created their parents. The Pope was in the emergency ward,
- 2:43Speaker 2: in which there were five children in very serious intensive care.
- 2:47Speaker 2: He wore the same green scrubs and face mask as
- 2:49Speaker 2: others working in the hospital, so as to not infect
- 2:52Speaker 2: the youngest present there. The Pope also met some old acquaintances.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Taking advantage of his time outside the Vatican, the Pope
- 2:59Speaker 2: also visited a hospice. At the door he was received
- 3:03Speaker 2: by the director of the structure. The Pope also wanted
- 3:06Speaker 2: to enter the rooms of the sick to greet each
- 3:08Speaker 2: one personally. However, one of the patients preferred to leave
- 3:12Speaker 2: to meet him in a chapel. With these two visits,
- 3:15Speaker 2: the Pope wanted to pay homage to Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
- 3:19Speaker 2: She was a firm defender of life and was just
- 3:21Speaker 2: canonized on September fourth.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Thank you to Rome Reports the English version for that report.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But that to me really epitomizes who Pope Friends was,
- 3:37Speaker 1: and you know, in all the bureau we've been seeing today,
- 3:40Speaker 1: he was certainly the people's pope that smiled that everybody saw,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and took time with everyone he saw, and it's not
- 3:46Speaker 1: like he Benedict Wasn't that. It's just Pope Francis had
- 3:51Speaker 1: a personality, had an aura about him that he exuded.
- 4:00Speaker 1: God Rest your soul, Pope Francis, and I believe you
- 4:02Speaker 1: will be canonized at some point, and may this enclave
- 4:07Speaker 1: be blessed by God, that they guide that their guide
- 4:10Speaker 1: to make the right decision on who to be, who
- 4:14Speaker 1: to name the successor. And if Cardinal Dolan is indeed
- 4:18Speaker 1: in the running, how cool is that then only a
- 4:20Speaker 1: New York cardinal, but an American cardinal is right up
- 4:25Speaker 1: there with the elites, the elites of clergy, because I
- 4:33Speaker 1: believe Cardinal Dolan is in that echelon. And if he
- 4:39Speaker 1: is named Pope man oh Man, he would represent the world,
- 4:49Speaker 1: America and New York City Sat Cathedral very well and
- 4:54Speaker 1: it would be a historic moment if that were to happen.
- 4:57Speaker 1: You could see how moved Cardinal Dolan was. Someone showed
- 5:03Speaker 1: tomorrow he's having a celebration of the soul and the
- 5:07Speaker 1: life of Pope Francis. And I am admiring the fact
- 5:15Speaker 1: that Pope Francis willed his way through all the hospitals
- 5:17Speaker 1: they draw the sicknesses to actually will his way to
- 5:21Speaker 1: Easter one more Easter. How powerful is that? And whether
- 5:27Speaker 1: you liked what he said or didn't like what he said,
- 5:29Speaker 1: he said what he believed was the truth that the
- 5:34Speaker 1: Lord would want. And you can really respect that. And
- 5:37Speaker 1: I think he showed the world how to have one
- 5:40Speaker 1: leg up for the people. That that's what made him
- 5:44Speaker 1: the people's Pope.
