- 0:07Speaker 1: This Mead Podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:16Speaker 1: new Art, and today we're joined by Steve Rinella, Janice
- 0:19Speaker 1: Patelis Hayden, Sama Hunter, Spencer, Garrett Long, and Randall Williams. Now, Randall,
- 0:24Speaker 1: this is your first time on the show. So tell
- 0:26Speaker 1: folks what you do here at meat Eater. I Uh,
- 0:31Speaker 1: I am the senior editor working on book projects and
- 0:34Speaker 1: audio originals. I like it, and uh, Steve, you probably
- 0:37Speaker 1: know Randall best. So how do you think he's going
- 0:39Speaker 1: to perform in this arena? I he'll do. I think
- 0:44Speaker 1: he'll he'll do strong, but but I honestly just to
- 0:49Speaker 1: be I mean, I honestly, I think I'll beat him. Okay,
- 0:53Speaker 1: you'll do strong, but you're gonna beat him. Has anybody
- 0:56Speaker 1: ever done like a little Calcutta in one of these
- 0:58Speaker 1: trivia games we have? I think I think Randall is
- 1:02Speaker 1: going to be up there in like Yanni class. Okay,
- 1:06Speaker 1: what would be the classes? Go through the tiers for
- 1:08Speaker 1: us here top tier Tier one and Brody okay, Tier two,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Tier two would be Yanni, potentially Randall and trivia guests.
- 1:19Speaker 1: According to the winning for Hayden. You. I think Hayden's
- 1:23Speaker 1: kind of worked his way up and he's an emerging threat.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I think he's if like Seth is down in if
- 1:30Speaker 1: Seth is down in a tier three, that would that
- 1:33Speaker 1: would necessitate like a point five, and Hayden's in that zone. Yeah,
- 1:41Speaker 1: emerging threat. I feel like half class. You know, you
- 1:45Speaker 1: think you're better than Yeah. I mean, if there's two
- 1:48Speaker 1: of us, I kind of like Now, if you're not familiar,
- 1:53Speaker 1: this is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 1:55Speaker 1: meat eaters, four verticals, what you're hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and there's a eyes meat eater will donate five dollars
- 2:02Speaker 1: to the conservation organization of the winners choosing and each
- 2:06Speaker 1: week here on Trivia we reveal a new stat This week,
- 2:10Speaker 1: we're looking at total wins, which is something we haven't
- 2:13Speaker 1: updated in quite a while because it's the end of
- 2:15Speaker 1: the year, though it seems like a good time to
- 2:17Speaker 1: revisit the leader board. In first place with thirteen total
- 2:22Speaker 1: wins is the Silent Killer Stephen Rinella. Did you think
- 2:27Speaker 1: that's where you'd be sitting at the end of the year.
- 2:29Speaker 1: That's followed by our twenty two Meat Eater Trivia champion
- 2:33Speaker 1: Brodie Henderson, who has eleven wins. In third place is
- 2:37Speaker 1: a man who is coming hot over the last few months,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and that's Janice Patelis with six victories. And that's followed
- 2:43Speaker 1: by Clay with three, Cow with two, and Seth Chester,
- 2:47Speaker 1: Hayden Krinn and Dustin Huff with one. Wasn't Corin's in
- 2:52Speaker 1: April fools joke? Yes I won that game, she was answers, Yeah,
- 2:57Speaker 1: I put that down on my list. Now you already
- 2:59Speaker 1: got that win. You both got that win, and I wouldn't.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I wouldn't keep doing it if it didn't make you
- 3:04Speaker 1: so angry. It comes up now. We asked some housekeeping
- 3:09Speaker 1: to get to you before we play. If you recall
- 3:11Speaker 1: it a last week's episode, I told Steve that I
- 3:14Speaker 1: had good news and bad news for him. The good
- 3:16Speaker 1: news was that there was a Star Wars character named
- 3:18Speaker 1: hammer Head that correct answer changed the outcome of the
- 3:22Speaker 1: game and gave Steve the victory over Janice. But this
- 3:25Speaker 1: week I'm delivering Steve the bad news. Here it is
- 3:28Speaker 1: for that question. That question was actually an artifact question Randall,
- 3:31Speaker 1: how to do with artist? I listened to this For
- 3:36Speaker 1: that question, do you keep score? Uh? I think that
- 3:40Speaker 1: was one that Dan was on, so I just listened
- 3:42Speaker 1: to it. Dan Flores was on that one. He was
- 3:45Speaker 1: but play, I don't keep score. I just kind of
- 3:49Speaker 1: it's easier to tell your stuff that you want. At
- 3:51Speaker 1: the end of yeah, I feel like I pretty do
- 3:54Speaker 1: pretty good on all these you know. Yeah, Now for
- 3:57Speaker 1: that question, Janice gave the answer of Hammer. Hammer is
- 4:00Speaker 1: a name for the stone tool we were looking at.
- 4:03Speaker 1: But there's no Star Wars character named Hammer, or so
- 4:06Speaker 1: I thought. While researching Steve's answer and the hammer Head character,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I came across an unnamed advanced recon commando who guarded
- 4:15Speaker 1: cloning facilities in an episode of the two thousand ten
- 4:19Speaker 1: TV Star Wars series The Clone Wars. This commando didn't
- 4:23Speaker 1: have an identity until that's when Lucas Film Story Group
- 4:28Speaker 1: executive Leland She tweeted out that the character's name was Hammer.
- 4:34Speaker 1: This was legitimized later that year when an official Star
- 4:37Speaker 1: Wars pack of trading cards came out that had the
- 4:40Speaker 1: character and his name on them. So, because that tool
- 4:44Speaker 1: can be called a hammer, and because that's also the
- 4:48Speaker 1: name of a Star Wars character, then technically Janice got
- 4:51Speaker 1: that question right, and that would mean that him and
- 4:54Speaker 1: Steve went to a tiebreaker that episode, which Honest one
- 5:00Speaker 1: the second time I'm here by stripping Steve of that
- 5:06Speaker 1: victory and reinstating it to Janice, jest, congratulations, Christmas spirits
- 5:17Speaker 1: back its back. Hey, Steve, do you want to personally
- 5:21Speaker 1: move those numbers back around? You couldn't. You couldn't hear.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Last episode was as I was reading this off to Steve,
- 5:29Speaker 1: he grabbed the trophy and updated the leader board, gave
- 5:32Speaker 1: himself an extra victory, stripped away from Jhannice. So we're
- 5:36Speaker 1: gonna have to do that again. Yeah, because in your
- 5:39Speaker 1: intro you even said I was down to at six victories. Yeah. Now,
- 5:44Speaker 1: now we actually need to revisit the leaderboard. So in
- 5:47Speaker 1: first place with twelve victories instead of thirteen is Steve Ronella.
- 5:52Speaker 1: That's followed by our two champion Brody with eleven, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: in third place is you Honest with seven victory's instead
- 6:00Speaker 1: of six. That's fine. I want to point something than
- 6:05Speaker 1: my answer. I knew my answer. Okay, I knew my answer.
- 6:10Speaker 1: He didn't have any idea what he was talking about.
- 6:12Speaker 1: It happened to be right. Sometimes you get lucky in trivia.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You know, as I was researching this, I felt bad
- 6:21Speaker 1: about how flawed the question was, But now I couldn't
- 6:23Speaker 1: be more satisfied with the outcome of what's happened. He
- 6:27Speaker 1: doesn't care what's the percentage of like when Brody plays
- 6:33Speaker 1: that he wins. That's interesting. I canna tell you really quick.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I mean, I couldn't believe what I was hearing in
- 6:39Speaker 1: the last episode of this. I thought it was very
- 6:41Speaker 1: out of character for you, And now that I know
- 6:43Speaker 1: it was leading up to this, I'm very satisfy. Here
- 6:45Speaker 1: is the official trading card from that has the name
- 6:49Speaker 1: of this character, which is Hammer. So you're lucky we
- 6:55Speaker 1: didn't play this game a couple of years ago that
- 6:57Speaker 1: that would not have gotten you the victory now. Shelby
- 7:02Speaker 1: Index for this game of trivia is a four. And
- 7:05Speaker 1: with that, we're on to the round. Play the draft, Phil, Look,
- 7:10Speaker 1: I need to know what I stay in the wind.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Everything I'm saying just tend to win everything suckers. Question one,
- 7:28Speaker 1: the topic is hunting. Doing a board update Those are magnetic.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Question one, the topic is hunting. This first great question
- 7:41Speaker 1: comes to is via Mike Stephen. If you have a
- 7:43Speaker 1: question you think is right for Meat Eat to Trivia,
- 7:45Speaker 1: you can send it to trivia at the meat eater
- 7:47Speaker 1: dot com. Who is the Greek goddess of nature, wild
- 7:52Speaker 1: animals and hunting? Is it Athena, Iris, Artemis or Nemesis? Again?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Who is the Greek goddess of nature, wild animals and hunting?
- 8:07Speaker 1: Your choices are Athena, Iris, Artemis or Nemesis. Steve was
- 8:13Speaker 1: writing an answer before I even gave the choices. How
- 8:16Speaker 1: confident are you? Steve? Very very confident? How's the rest
- 8:21Speaker 1: of the room doing? Do you guys have an answer?
- 8:24Speaker 1: What was the stat about? The one that's always right
- 8:26Speaker 1: is generally what the third one is? Everybody ready? How
- 8:32Speaker 1: are you feeling? Random? Great? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 8:36Speaker 1: We have Hayden saying Artemis, Randall saying Artemus, Hunter, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: Garrett and Steve all saying Artemus emerging threat. They got it.
- 8:46Speaker 1: The correct answer is Artemis. Artemus is the Greek goddess
- 8:50Speaker 1: of nature, wild animals, and hunting, as well as vegetation, childbirth,
- 8:55Speaker 1: child care, and chastity. She wrote a Golden Chariot driven
- 8:59Speaker 1: by for Golden horned deer, and she was the daughter
- 9:03Speaker 1: of Zeus the outdoor industry her. Would you learn it's
- 9:09Speaker 1: pretty good? Man violent? Oh? Is it that graphic novel? Yeah? Yeah, yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Now the outdoor industry has latched onto this goddess, as
- 9:18Speaker 1: there are bibbs, tense rifles, outfitters and more that are
- 9:22Speaker 1: named after Artemis. Question to the topic is woodsmanship. What
- 9:30Speaker 1: cosmetic product is often wrongly used as an at home
- 9:34Speaker 1: chiggers remedy? What cosmetic product is often wrongly used as
- 9:42Speaker 1: an at home chiggers remedy? The room looks sort of confident,
- 9:50Speaker 1: No quick answers. Randall wrote one down pretty quickly, Randy,
- 9:55Speaker 1: you know this? No, I don't. Okay, you know cosmetic
- 9:58Speaker 1: products I'm in. I just the first one that came
- 10:02Speaker 1: to mind. So you get a chance one more time.
- 10:04Speaker 1: What cosmetic product is often wrongly used as an at
- 10:09Speaker 1: home chigger's remedy? Does everybody have an answer? When you
- 10:13Speaker 1: when you do mind? Would you mind saying what I scratched? OK?
- 10:17Speaker 1: We can do that. Does everybody have an answer to
- 10:19Speaker 1: cover my basis? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 10:21Speaker 1: have Hayden saying nail polish remover. Hey Randall saying nail
- 10:26Speaker 1: polish remover, Hunter saying foundation, Garrett saying shaving cream, Janice
- 10:32Speaker 1: saying nail polish, Steve saying nail polish remover, and he
- 10:37Speaker 1: crossed out, I can't read that rubbing alcohol. The correct
- 10:41Speaker 1: answer is fingernail polish. I don't think you're going to
- 10:45Speaker 1: give it to the people who said fingernail polish rem
- 10:47Speaker 1: Those are very different things. Fingernail polish wives tale suggests
- 10:53Speaker 1: that applying fingernail polish to affected areas will suffocate the chiggers.
- 10:57Speaker 1: The reality is that chiggers don't burrow into your skin,
- 11:00Speaker 1: so the fingernail polish doesn't do anything but make your
- 11:03Speaker 1: skin even more uncomfortable. The correct way to treat jiggers
- 11:07Speaker 1: is taking a silpy bath using bena drill and applying
- 11:10Speaker 1: lotion to the irritated areas. Now your honest was that
- 11:13Speaker 1: just a guest or did you know it? No? Man,
- 11:15Speaker 1: I mean you're on your school and that ship man. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 1: I'm taking uh a series of baths down where were we, Missouri?
- 11:23Speaker 1: Series of baths that were probably gallant of bleach in them.
- 11:30Speaker 1: They're like drain some motor oil out of your truck
- 11:35Speaker 1: when when reading with turpentine expert takes and articles on this,
- 11:41Speaker 1: they sink you do not use bleach and do not
- 11:43Speaker 1: use nail polish like I said, bath Bena, drill and lotion.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Question three, the topic is public lands. This next great
- 11:52Speaker 1: question comes to us via Eric has. If you have
- 11:54Speaker 1: a question you think is right from mediator trivia, you
- 11:57Speaker 1: can send it to Trivia at the meat eator dot com.
- 12:00Speaker 1: What state is home to the Adirondack Mountains? What state
- 12:08Speaker 1: is home to the Adiron deck mouse where? It seems
- 12:11Speaker 1: like a quick answer for everybody except Garrett, Thanks god, man,
- 12:17Speaker 1: I just I don't know, man, because your dad's listening,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and he's gonna know, Like he's even gonna know, like
- 12:23Speaker 1: how you lost. Yeah, tell us, tell us what you
- 12:27Speaker 1: were telling us before the show about your family listening. Oh,
- 12:30Speaker 1: they just it's just like always this defeatism. When they
- 12:34Speaker 1: call me, they're just like, oh sorry, man, like because
- 12:39Speaker 1: I never did that. You bring me on. We can't
- 12:46Speaker 1: just fill the books. We can't just fill the room
- 12:49Speaker 1: with Tier one competitors. One more time, What state is home?
- 12:52Speaker 1: Did the ad is gonna get another set of encyclopedias
- 12:55Speaker 1: for Christmas. Now, how confident are you, Garrett? Before we
- 12:59Speaker 1: reveal the I would say like one in fifty. Okay,
- 13:03Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Hayden saying
- 13:06Speaker 1: new York, New York, New York, Carolina, Johannese and Steve
- 13:12Speaker 1: saying New York. They got it. The correct answer is
- 13:15Speaker 1: New York. The Adirondacks are within the Adirondack Park, which
- 13:19Speaker 1: is the biggest national Historic landmark in America at six
- 13:23Speaker 1: million acres. It's larger than Yellowstone, the Everglades, and Grand
- 13:28Speaker 1: Canyon National Park combined. It's even bigger than the neighboring
- 13:31Speaker 1: state of Vermont. Have you ever been there, Steve? Doing?
- 13:36Speaker 1: What just drove through? I haven't hung out there and
- 13:39Speaker 1: done anything? Can we get a scoreboard update? This is
- 13:42Speaker 1: like the only time questions Question four. The topic is fishing.
- 13:50Speaker 1: America's fourth longest river, which ends at the Gulf of Mexico,
- 13:55Speaker 1: was once declared Colorando was best kept secret by fly
- 13:59Speaker 1: Fishing magazine. What is it? America's fourth longest river, which
- 14:06Speaker 1: ends at the Gulf of Mexico, was once declared Colorado
- 14:11Speaker 1: is best kept secret by fly Fishing Magazine. Quick answer
- 14:16Speaker 1: from Yanni, Yanni, Did you spend part of your life
- 14:18Speaker 1: in Colorado? And you think yes? Okay? Looking for the
- 14:25Speaker 1: fourth longest river, ends at the Gulf of Mexico, was
- 14:28Speaker 1: once declared Colorado is best kept secret. You're looking for
- 14:34Speaker 1: its name, the name of the river when it hits
- 14:37Speaker 1: the gulf. Looking for the name of the river. I
- 14:41Speaker 1: read a lot about this, but I never fished that river.
- 14:45Speaker 1: It's a little hint, maybe a lot of rivers I
- 14:48Speaker 1: fished in Colorado's right about this one? Randall? You got
- 14:54Speaker 1: this one. I don't think so. Hayden, you were quick
- 14:59Speaker 1: with an answer. I don't. I don't think I got
- 15:02Speaker 1: it right. I was trying to work out. I don't
- 15:06Speaker 1: want to say anymore. One more time. Here, America's fourth
- 15:08Speaker 1: longest river, which ends at the Gulf of Mexico, was
- 15:11Speaker 1: once declared Colorado is best kept Secret by fly Fishing magazine. Steve,
- 15:17Speaker 1: do we have an answer working on it? Dude? Garrett,
- 15:25Speaker 1: give an answer? Yeah, I mean it's I would just
- 15:27Speaker 1: change it for the next wrong one. Go ahead and
- 15:31Speaker 1: rebel your answers. We have Hayden saying snake, Randall saying
- 15:34Speaker 1: grand Hunter sang Missouri. Garrett sang Salmon, Jana saying Rio Grand,
- 15:40Speaker 1: Steve saying Trinity. We have a correct answer in the room.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It's Rio Grandy's got a perfect game. At eight hundred
- 15:50Speaker 1: miles long, the Rio Grand is about two hundred miles
- 15:54Speaker 1: shorter than the Yukon River and three hundred miles longer
- 15:57Speaker 1: than the Colorado River. The upper stretches of the Rio
- 16:00Speaker 1: Grand and its tributaries offer world class trout fishing for rainbows, browns,
- 16:05Speaker 1: and native cutthroats. Damn, Y's just tearing to a new one.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Until I wrote this question, I didn't even know the
- 16:11Speaker 1: real Grand was in Colorado, and I would imagine most
- 16:13Speaker 1: folks were the same way. That's why you don't play.
- 16:15Speaker 1: You're not going to believe me. But I had Rio
- 16:17Speaker 1: Grand for really, but I didn't think it went to Colorado.
- 16:19Speaker 1: That's why I like to scratch them out so people
- 16:22Speaker 1: are like, oh you kind of question five. We'll get
- 16:26Speaker 1: a scoreboard update for Hunter after this. The topic cooking
- 16:33Speaker 1: Improper canning is the most common source of this potentially
- 16:37Speaker 1: fatal food born disease. We have Steve and Hayden in
- 16:40Speaker 1: a race to see you write faster, and I would
- 16:43Speaker 1: give it to Steve was done before you finish the
- 16:46Speaker 1: question again. Improper canning is the most common source of
- 16:51Speaker 1: this potentially fatal food born disease. The answer is not
- 16:57Speaker 1: Rio Grand Garrett. It's probably a disease named after that
- 17:07Speaker 1: disease spelling. Does everybody have an answer? It's gonna come.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Actually mhm did did Hunter lamenting on the spelling give
- 17:17Speaker 1: you a hint? Gar I'm just gonna go yeah, well, yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 1: I think you guys are really showing each other. You
- 17:23Speaker 1: should go ahead feeling your answers. We have Hayden saying
- 17:30Speaker 1: baculi is m randall, I can't read, saying bacul is um.
- 17:35Speaker 1: What you're saying sounding be honest? And Steve saying does
- 17:41Speaker 1: that count? Very wrong? But you got the answer right.
- 17:49Speaker 1: According to the c d C, about fifty percent of
- 17:52Speaker 1: baculi is um cases are directly tied to foods that
- 17:56Speaker 1: with candid home. The disease is fatal about five percent
- 17:59Speaker 1: of the time him It can be avoided by sterilizing equipment,
- 18:03Speaker 1: refrigerating canned foods once they're open, and using a pressure cooker.
- 18:06Speaker 1: When foods have a low acidity, such as asparagus, carrots, mushrooms, oysters, shrimp, beef, chicken,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and venison. In the Incormate McCarthy's the Road, they're in
- 18:18Speaker 1: a house looking for food and he finds some jarred
- 18:21Speaker 1: some home can goods on a shelf, and even though
- 18:23Speaker 1: everybody's starving to death and has resorted to cannibalism, he
- 18:27Speaker 1: finds them and leaves them. He's he's a doctor and
- 18:32Speaker 1: for that reason he finds them, but he does. Yeah,
- 18:34Speaker 1: that's what he's thinking. Then he finds the pears and
- 18:36Speaker 1: the kid freaks out, and they find a dried apple.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Remember that. I don't remember that. I believe Phil. We
- 18:43Speaker 1: are halfway through the game. They they're fucking with that
- 18:49Speaker 1: vending machine and find a can Pepsi and he gives
- 18:53Speaker 1: his kid. He gives his kid a Cipopepsi. And then Phil,
- 18:59Speaker 1: I'm thinking you could talk about the like top two here,
- 19:03Speaker 1: Mr Long, pick up your phone, start dialing now. Garrett's
- 19:06Speaker 1: one point. Hunter Spencer is up next with two got
- 19:10Speaker 1: Steven Ronella with three points, along with Hayden and Randall
- 19:15Speaker 1: new player four points in second place and in first place.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Perfect game. Honest Piteli, goodness, man, stepping it up wasn't
- 19:25Speaker 1: to stepping it up? I shouldn't have I shouldn't have
- 19:27Speaker 1: poked a bear. Yeah, yeah, I was. I was holding
- 19:33Speaker 1: my own tier by myself. I didn't like this another
- 19:37Speaker 1: guy jump in on my zone, trying to move it
- 19:39Speaker 1: on tier two. I was intimidated by Randall right away.
- 19:44Speaker 1: I had that effect senior editor man and that Yeah, no,
- 19:52Speaker 1: I know. That's what I'm saying. High level Randad's got
- 19:54Speaker 1: that intimidation thing. He's got the higher type of projects
- 19:57Speaker 1: that work on you know, question six. The topic is hunting.
- 20:12Speaker 1: This is our on X listener question of the Week,
- 20:14Speaker 1: which was won by Brad Cato for sending this great question.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Brand is going to get a one year premium subscription
- 20:20Speaker 1: to on X if you want a chance to win,
- 20:23Speaker 1: Brad Cato. What's the due his name lived out behind
- 20:26Speaker 1: OJ's house Calin Oh yeah, he's like he's like like
- 20:31Speaker 1: this guy's cousins mostly friend whatever. Keep you now. He's
- 20:34Speaker 1: got a subscription to on X if you want a
- 20:36Speaker 1: chance to win our listener question of the week, Cato Kalin,
- 20:41Speaker 1: he's like looking rent free behind the juice's house. That's
- 20:46Speaker 1: a great prize. I'm sorry, do the prize over again.
- 20:49Speaker 1: This is our on X listener question of the Week,
- 20:51Speaker 1: which was won by Brad Cato, which is whose cousin?
- 20:55Speaker 1: No relation? Okay, no relation and he's going to get
- 20:58Speaker 1: a one year premium subscription to on X. Now this
- 21:02Speaker 1: is a visual question. If you want to see what
- 21:03Speaker 1: the room is seeing, then go to Instagram and check
- 21:06Speaker 1: out at Spencer new Heart. I'll make it my most
- 21:09Speaker 1: recent post. This famous Ferrell hog was killed by a
- 21:14Speaker 1: Georgia hunter in two thousand four. What was the hog's nickname?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Seeing the phone like like, turns out that he will
- 21:27Speaker 1: address it. He might have been fair, but he wasn't
- 21:29Speaker 1: a minute ago. I need the name that this hog.
- 21:36Speaker 1: One of those big hogs turned up and a guy
- 21:39Speaker 1: he's all over the internet with this big hog got
- 21:41Speaker 1: Then the guy that just sold it to him came
- 21:42Speaker 1: out and he's like, I just sold him that pig
- 21:45Speaker 1: and he's got a picture of the pig loaded in
- 21:46Speaker 1: a stock aide. We had Stephen Hayden with answers before
- 21:51Speaker 1: I even gave does everybody saying that? Does everybody have
- 21:57Speaker 1: an answer? He just said the answer, Yeah, does everybody
- 22:01Speaker 1: have an answer? We have Hayden saying hog Zilla. Ramdas
- 22:08Speaker 1: sang hog Zilla saying boss Hog, Garrett Nuts, Janice and
- 22:15Speaker 1: Steve saying hog Zilla on that perfect game. Still you
- 22:20Speaker 1: were like heyd and I was like, I don't think
- 22:21Speaker 1: I'm talking. The correct answer was what Hayden hog zill.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Hog Zilla was originally rumored and one thousand pounds. Many
- 22:35Speaker 1: considered it a hoax until nine months later, when scientists
- 22:38Speaker 1: from a national geographic documentary dug up its remains. Based
- 22:43Speaker 1: on measurements they took, they estimated the hog was actually
- 22:45Speaker 1: between seven and nine ft long and weighed about eight
- 22:49Speaker 1: hundred pounds. DNA tests revealed that hog Zilla was a
- 22:52Speaker 1: hybrid of a wild boar and a domestic pig. Question
- 22:58Speaker 1: seven is on a perfect Game? The topic is woodsmanship.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Be prepared is the official motto of what nonprofit? God
- 23:10Speaker 1: dang man be prepared? Is that a good god dang
- 23:15Speaker 1: or a bad god nang is the official motto of
- 23:20Speaker 1: what nonprofit? The honest perfect game on the line. Starting
- 23:25Speaker 1: to write an answer, I'm gonna stay consistent when my
- 23:28Speaker 1: last nonprofit answer again in the race between Steve and Hayden,
- 23:31Speaker 1: I think we had Steve winn quick answer okay, and
- 23:35Speaker 1: he did win. Is that intimidating any when Steve writes
- 23:39Speaker 1: that quick for sure, for sure, and I'll put a
- 23:43Speaker 1: little more pressure pressure one more time. Here the two
- 23:46Speaker 1: words are be prepared. And that's the official motto of
- 23:50Speaker 1: what nonprofit I think I know. Let me shot. I'm
- 23:58Speaker 1: not gonna change mine. Does everybody have an answer? Go
- 24:04Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Hayden saying planned parents,
- 24:10Speaker 1: Randalls saying Boy Scouts of America Hunter without an answer,
- 24:14Speaker 1: Garrett saying DARE, which is what resistance education. Okay, Janni
- 24:21Speaker 1: was a DARE member in school. Janice saying boy Scouts.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Steve saying boy Scouts, they got it. The correct answer
- 24:27Speaker 1: is the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts. They're about ready
- 24:30Speaker 1: to settle a giant class action lawsuit man for like
- 24:35Speaker 1: sexual abuse class action lawsuit. The mottel first appeared in
- 24:39Speaker 1: the night handbook Scouting for Boys. Here's a quote from
- 24:43Speaker 1: the book, be prepared, which means you are always in
- 24:46Speaker 1: a state of readiness in mind and body to do
- 24:50Speaker 1: your duty. Well, were you a boy Scout? I was,
- 24:55Speaker 1: but you know, I don't want to call it a regret,
- 24:56Speaker 1: but I made it through life scout, and I never
- 24:59Speaker 1: did my our project to become an Eagle Scout. I
- 25:03Speaker 1: thought you're gonna say you regretted being a boy scout
- 25:05Speaker 1: now saying that I was very fortunate because I got
- 25:08Speaker 1: to do Latvian boy Scouts, which always included the girl Scouts,
- 25:14Speaker 1: which made it a lot more fun um, especially as
- 25:17Speaker 1: we got into our teens. But we just seem to
- 25:20Speaker 1: have a lot more uh, I don't know. We just
- 25:23Speaker 1: had great adventures and it just like my buddies that
- 25:25Speaker 1: were doing regular boy Scouts, like really, that's what you
- 25:28Speaker 1: guys do. Like we went up to Canada and did
- 25:30Speaker 1: this like five day excursion on canoes, and I don't know,
- 25:33Speaker 1: we had a lot of had a lot of good trips.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I think it could vary by like chapter chapter. I
- 25:37Speaker 1: worked at a fish hantry in college, and I gave
- 25:39Speaker 1: a lot of tours to boy scouts, not usually good experiences.
- 25:42Speaker 1: They didn't seem like the folks that were out hunting
- 25:45Speaker 1: in the fall and fishing in the summer. It seemed
- 25:48Speaker 1: like somebody had drugged them there to most of those activities.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Question eight the topic is biology. This next great question
- 25:55Speaker 1: comes to is via John hap If you have a
- 25:57Speaker 1: question you think is right for meat eat trivia you
- 26:00Speaker 1: and send it to trivia the mediator dot com. Second time,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I think he's lost a marker. Here's the question. Leapis
- 26:09Speaker 1: cornetis is the scientific name for what fictional creature. I'll
- 26:14Speaker 1: spell this for you. Leapis l E p U S
- 26:18Speaker 1: corneti is c O R n U t u S.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Leapis cornetis is the scientific name for what fictional creature.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I don't understand how there can be a scientific name
- 26:32Speaker 1: for a fictional super question, leapis cornetis? Are you going
- 26:37Speaker 1: to explain that maybe it's totally dumb, It's not Annian
- 26:41Speaker 1: name for a fictional creature. Does everybody have an answer
- 26:45Speaker 1: for what the dumb fictional creature? If you? If you're
- 26:52Speaker 1: if his perfect game gets blown off something as stupid
- 26:55Speaker 1: as this, I'm gonna be mad for him. I mean
- 26:58Speaker 1: my perfect game was blown by about what's the wrong
- 27:01Speaker 1: thing to do in this situation? Right? Yeah, finger nail?
- 27:05Speaker 1: What shouldn't you do? And everybody every answer? Leapist cornetist
- 27:11Speaker 1: is a scientific name for what fictional creature? Hunter, you
- 27:16Speaker 1: got an answer, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 27:20Speaker 1: have Hayden saying Jackalope Randall saying easter, you're saying saying unicorn,
- 27:26Speaker 1: Yanna saying unicorn, Steve saying unicorn. Nobody got it. The
- 27:30Speaker 1: correct answer is Jackalopey Hayden got it. That's literally what
- 27:37Speaker 1: I wrote. Here's how to unpack that scientific name. Leapis
- 27:43Speaker 1: is the genus that contains hairs and jack rabbits. Cornetist
- 27:47Speaker 1: is a Latin word meaning has horns. It was widely
- 27:50Speaker 1: accepted that jackalopes were real well into the eighteenth century,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and they made many appearances in scientific texts in the
- 27:57Speaker 1: Renaissance times. That's how they got a scientific name. I
- 28:01Speaker 1: like the question because the Leapus is in there. You'd
- 28:03Speaker 1: be like, oh, I know, jack rabbits. No perfect game
- 28:07Speaker 1: for Johnnie. It's like a few players. That's really what
- 28:15Speaker 1: that's kind of like what makes it to Steve just
- 28:18Speaker 1: entered it about an hour ago. Actually, give us a
- 28:21Speaker 1: scoreboard that day. We have two questions left. Yeah, sorry, Garrett, Sorry, Hunter?
- 28:28Speaker 1: Can Hunter and I just combine our scores and you
- 28:32Speaker 1: were still out of the game, Stephen and say, make
- 28:37Speaker 1: you have five points apiece randalls six points and uh,
- 28:42Speaker 1: you're not too far behind the honest who's throwing a
- 28:44Speaker 1: perfect game with seven points missed one. He just gave up.
- 28:49Speaker 1: He just gave up a Texas League single. Oh yeah,
- 28:52Speaker 1: my little scoreboard puts a little cute little trophy next
- 28:55Speaker 1: to whoever's in first place. And my brand said, oh perfect,
- 28:57Speaker 1: perfect game. Question like Yanni real his he has the
- 29:01Speaker 1: really falter right now, it's only one point ahead, and
- 29:04Speaker 1: there's two questions. I thought he had seven and we
- 29:06Speaker 1: have five. You're forgetting about his fellow Tier two competitor
- 29:11Speaker 1: who's one question behind. I think we should extend an
- 29:14Speaker 1: invite to Garrett's dad. I know him. You know, if
- 29:22Speaker 1: your dad comes, you guys can be on the team.
- 29:26Speaker 1: You just gonnam paris this as a family. The only
- 29:30Speaker 1: time's ever had a teammate. Question nine, The topic is cooking.
- 29:36Speaker 1: The sirloin tip roast has a sporty nickname that's inspired
- 29:41Speaker 1: by its shape. What is it? Steve winning the race again?
- 29:46Speaker 1: I think he did the sir loin tip roast has
- 29:50Speaker 1: a sporty nickname that's inspired by its shape. What is it?
- 29:58Speaker 1: Be honest? Is going to keep you in the lead?
- 30:00Speaker 1: Do you think? I think? So? Okay? Randall? How you
- 30:02Speaker 1: feeling caught? Team up with Randall? Yeah, I'm feeling pretty good. Okay.
- 30:10Speaker 1: The sir loin tip roast has a sporty nicknames inspired
- 30:14Speaker 1: by its shape. Garrett Hunter, you guys good, have an answer? Yeah,
- 30:22Speaker 1: I'm just writing something. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Haden saying football, Hunter saying try tip, Spike, Jana saying triangles,
- 30:34Speaker 1: Steve saying try tip. It might be the correct answer
- 30:39Speaker 1: is football giving hated man? Yeah, it is about sport. Yeah,
- 30:52Speaker 1: he gave us a tip by a racer to the
- 30:58Speaker 1: sirloin tip. Is okay? When you handicapped for age, that
- 31:03Speaker 1: is a legitimate emerging threat because I used to argue
- 31:07Speaker 1: that it was like it was whose oldest contest? Right
- 31:10Speaker 1: that's around? Yeah, it's like you have longer to be remember,
- 31:14Speaker 1: which is why I do bad. You know, I've considered
- 31:16Speaker 1: doing how old you? I am at least a decade
- 31:19Speaker 1: and a half younger. How old are you? So imagine
- 31:23Speaker 1: nless he gets kicked in the head by a horse orself,
- 31:25Speaker 1: and imagine who Yeah, listen forgetting bunch of stuff I
- 31:29Speaker 1: don't know, and I could just start spilling out. I've
- 31:31Speaker 1: considered giving a trivia stat of age. Since you you
- 31:34Speaker 1: think that's important, but I didn't know how I feel
- 31:37Speaker 1: about asking everyone their age. That would be a delicate
- 31:39Speaker 1: and it's called hr. We'll cover that at the certain
- 31:44Speaker 1: loin tip is located on the front side of the
- 31:46Speaker 1: hind leg. It's a good roast hole or cut into steaks.
- 31:50Speaker 1: If you want to learn how to cook a whole one,
- 31:53Speaker 1: then go to the meat eator dot com and check
- 31:54Speaker 1: out Danielle Prue. It's recipe for a Texas style barbecue
- 31:58Speaker 1: venison roast. He put it right in your lap sting
- 32:01Speaker 1: once you heard it, Now do you you're like, oh,
- 32:04Speaker 1: through to you like a ball. Yeah. I used to
- 32:06Speaker 1: even market on my package. Now it's baseball though it's football.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Were a question left, Phil give us a scoreboard update.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Is still in first place seven points, but Randall and
- 32:21Speaker 1: now Hayden have six points, so if they get it right,
- 32:24Speaker 1: get it wrong. Question ten. The topic is fishing. What
- 32:31Speaker 1: Canadian province is home to the scallop capital of the world.
- 32:38Speaker 1: What Canadian province is home to the scallop capital of
- 32:43Speaker 1: the world for over time? We would need be honest
- 32:45Speaker 1: to get this wrong in Hayden or Randall to get
- 32:49Speaker 1: it right, What Canadian province is home to the scallop
- 32:55Speaker 1: capital of the world. Still no answer from Nice. How
- 32:58Speaker 1: you feeling about this one? Yanni? Wow? Okay, fifty fifty Randall,
- 33:04Speaker 1: what are you thinking? The province that I have down
- 33:07Speaker 1: is don't give us too many hits on the coastline,
- 33:13Speaker 1: and there's two coasts in Canada, Hayden, what are you thinking? See?
- 33:20Speaker 1: I hope Hayden doesn't get because I don't want to
- 33:22Speaker 1: deal with that emerging threat problem. It's not gonna go
- 33:25Speaker 1: away if I don't get this one. It changes the
- 33:28Speaker 1: optics of everything. What Canadian province is home to the
- 33:33Speaker 1: scallop capital world? Who I'm rooting for? And I don't
- 33:35Speaker 1: know if any of our three contenders have even created
- 33:38Speaker 1: an answer yet. Randal, you got one. I kind of
- 33:45Speaker 1: want to help you. Steve, you think you know this?
- 33:49Speaker 1: Let me see you know? I think I got like
- 33:50Speaker 1: a right? Are we ready go ahead and reveal your
- 33:57Speaker 1: we have? Hayden saying Nova Scotia, Randall saying British Columbia. Hunter,
- 34:01Speaker 1: you're saying Nova Scotia. Garrett saying British Columbia. Yanna saying
- 34:05Speaker 1: British Columbia. Steve saying Nova Scotia, we have a correct
- 34:09Speaker 1: answer in the room. It's Nova Scotia putting Hayden, and
- 34:16Speaker 1: over time I got that right to you know, Steve
- 34:19Speaker 1: got it right. But it's not good enough to be
- 34:22Speaker 1: in the eight club and go to I often use
- 34:27Speaker 1: a metric that I call the Steve index, And if
- 34:29Speaker 1: I write something that I'm unsure about, I see Steve
- 34:31Speaker 1: wrote it, I typically tend to feel a little bit
- 34:34Speaker 1: better about, or at least I know there's somebody who's
- 34:36Speaker 1: going to voice an equal distinction. You don't have to
- 34:38Speaker 1: be nice to him. He was just rooting against you.
- 34:41Speaker 1: I was rooting against him. And if we don't even
- 34:44Speaker 1: have a chip with your name on it, I contribute
- 34:46Speaker 1: to the anybody not on there, the guests. Do you
- 34:51Speaker 1: have a win in there? He does have? Well, he
- 34:54Speaker 1: got to pull his win out and give him his
- 34:55Speaker 1: own chip. I would love it. He's got to he
- 35:00Speaker 1: needs a chip. There's room for another row. Up we
- 35:03Speaker 1: are on the question play the drop to be totally
- 35:06Speaker 1: frank with to be totally frank with her chip. We'll
- 35:13Speaker 1: just scratch it. And what are all the provinces? Real quick?
- 35:18Speaker 1: Can you rip them all? I'm not I thought so.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I don't know, will make you a chip down there
- 35:28Speaker 1: question a lot of decisions I'm involved in. I'm not
- 35:31Speaker 1: sure I want to replace her. Win is a win,
- 35:34Speaker 1: it's like she's gone. You're in question eleven. The topic
- 35:39Speaker 1: is conservation and this is a numerical question. Whoever is
- 35:43Speaker 1: closest to the correct answer will be declared our winner.
- 35:47Speaker 1: What year was BPS deep Water Horizon spill that released
- 35:52Speaker 1: one hundred and thirty four million gallons of oil into
- 35:55Speaker 1: the Gulf of Mexico. Hayden already wrote very of answer
- 36:00Speaker 1: from Hayden. I think he did it just out of intimidation.
- 36:09Speaker 1: What year was BPS deep Water Horizon spill that released
- 36:15Speaker 1: one hundred thirty four million gallons of oil into the
- 36:19Speaker 1: Gulf of Mexico. If the rest of the competitors in
- 36:21Speaker 1: the room want to play long and write down and answer,
- 36:23Speaker 1: you're more than welcome to. But the only ones that
- 36:25Speaker 1: matter are Hayden and Janice. We have Janice going for
- 36:29Speaker 1: his eighth victory and Hayden going for his second. I
- 36:34Speaker 1: want to win, bad man still without running though on it,
- 36:49Speaker 1: especially considering Hayden had an answer immediately. What year was
- 36:54Speaker 1: BPS deep Water Horizon spill that released one hundred thirty
- 36:58Speaker 1: four million gallons of oil and of Mexico. Not a
- 37:00Speaker 1: good time that he wrote down what I was thinking, Hayden,
- 37:04Speaker 1: how are you feeling about your answer? I remember standing
- 37:10Speaker 1: in a specific place when I heard about this. I
- 37:13Speaker 1: could be messing it up. And I also don't know
- 37:15Speaker 1: whether this is like when it happened or when like
- 37:18Speaker 1: Hayden could work about Janni, how you feeling about your answer?
- 37:24Speaker 1: I'm within a decade go ahead, as we had Hayden
- 37:31Speaker 1: saying two thousand ten, Janice saying two thousand nineteen. Hey,
- 37:36Speaker 1: it's gonna be closer. No, I think I'm dead. Not
- 37:39Speaker 1: the correct answer. It's two thousand and ten, making hated
- 37:43Speaker 1: our winner, hing fell. Let's review that for a minute,
- 37:53Speaker 1: a perfect game faltered, got overtaken by a newcomer, and
- 38:01Speaker 1: then bested who doesn't even have a spot on the trump.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Very impressive, Hayden, that you hit it right, Chip. I
- 38:08Speaker 1: think one of the most impressive things that's happened to
- 38:10Speaker 1: media to trivia is the time Steve that you got
- 38:12Speaker 1: that there were thirty five states with confirmed populations of
- 38:15Speaker 1: Farrell hogs, and when Hayden nailed the date when the
- 38:18Speaker 1: bp oil spill? Can I can I clarify something on that?
- 38:21Speaker 1: But I don't know if the listeners knew. But remember
- 38:24Speaker 1: there was a technical issue that we had, like chords
- 38:28Speaker 1: were unplugged in and it allowed me to make a
- 38:30Speaker 1: map of America. What do you think your answer was
- 38:34Speaker 1: before that? Because we had was one of the baseball
- 38:36Speaker 1: players one of the mets, I think was said thirty seven,
- 38:39Speaker 1: which was also like wildly close to the correct answer.
- 38:42Speaker 1: I had started out higher and came down once I
- 38:47Speaker 1: made my map thirty five. Well done, Hayd In two
- 38:51Speaker 1: thousand dead nuts, you are the winner of mediator Trivia.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Where is the five dollar donation going to go? Um?
- 38:59Speaker 1: I got to find out exactly what the charity is called?
- 39:02Speaker 1: But our own Hillary Byrne her mother was involved in
- 39:07Speaker 1: a charity and I saw Hillary making a post for
- 39:10Speaker 1: Giving Tuesday, and I was to go there. You know, honestly,
- 39:15Speaker 1: I'm just taking Hillary's word for it, and I remember
- 39:17Speaker 1: on Giving Tuesday wants to donate to it, but her
- 39:19Speaker 1: mom passed away about a year ago. I think, yeah, well,
- 39:23Speaker 1: don Hayden, donation going to that organization. Good job in sorright,
- 39:31Speaker 1: That's that ends all year of meat, eat your trivia.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Before we get out here, I want to say a
- 39:35Speaker 1: few words of the audience, UM, while we close out two.
- 39:38Speaker 1: I'm so appreciative of all the people who listen, UM,
- 39:41Speaker 1: and the significant others who have to listen against their will.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Everyone sends in questions and corrections. Uh. Sometimes I damn
- 39:47Speaker 1: your tear up when I think about what it is
- 39:49Speaker 1: I get to do for a living, UM, And none
- 39:51Speaker 1: of that would be possible without the listening audience. They're
- 39:54Speaker 1: so engaging, so genuinely thank you. It means the world
- 39:57Speaker 1: to me that you're listening. We'll be back in three
- 40:00Speaker 1: with more. The only game show where conservation always wins.
- 40:03Speaker 1: A sect has never won around but close. Steve says
- 40:13Speaker 1: every single week, You're wonderful. Don't even get a spot
- 40:16Speaker 1: on the on the trophy.
