- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Wednesday, it's the 21st of
- 0:17May and it's a special day because not only have you tapped
- 0:21on play, but you have done so on this International Tea Day.
- 0:27This is my kind of day. There are so many people in
- 0:30Australia for whom coffee is just the go to and I often feel
- 0:34like a little bit of a loser, a little bit left out as someone
- 0:38who doesn't drink coffee but who loves tea.
- 0:40So it was with great delight that I read.
- 0:42Did you realise that tea, way more than coffee, is the
- 0:46preferred hot beverage in the world today?
- 0:49That everyone. Second, there are 25,000 cups of
- 0:53tea consumed around the world. That's over 2 billion with AB
- 0:59cups of tea made every single day for the last 5000 years.
- 1:04We've been enjoying tea since Emperor Shen Hung discovered tea
- 1:08when the wind blew and the leaves blew from a tree into his
- 1:12pot of boiling water, as the legend goes.
- 1:15And since that fateful day, we people of the earth have been
- 1:18drinking tea. And of course, my favourite poem
- 1:21in the world is about tea and it says drink your tea slowly and
- 1:25reverently as if it is the axis on which the world earth
- 1:29revolves slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future.
- 1:35Live the actual moment, only this moment is life.
- 1:40Thank you tick nut hard for that beautiful reflection on tea.
- 1:44Enjoy your cup of tea today, friends.
- 1:45But more than that, let us enjoy meditating on God's words that
- 1:51are going to unpack everything Jesus has done for us as our
- 1:54high priest. Reading together Hebrews chapter
- 1:578. Here is the main point.
- 2:11We have a high priest who sat down in the place of honour
- 2:15beside the throne of the majestic God in heaven.
- 2:19There he ministers in the heavenly Tabernacle, the true
- 2:23place of worship that was built by the Lord and not by human
- 2:27hands. And since every high priest is
- 2:30required to offer gifts and sacrifices, our high priest must
- 2:35make an offering too. If he were here on earth, he
- 2:39would not even be a priest. Since there already are priests
- 2:43who offer the gifts required by the Law, they serve in a system
- 2:48of worship that is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in
- 2:52heaven. For when Moses was getting ready
- 2:54to build the Tabernacle, God gave him this warning.
- 2:58Be sure that you make everything according to the pattern I have
- 3:02shown you here on the mountain. But now Jesus, our high priest,
- 3:08has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old
- 3:11priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better
- 3:17covenant with God based on better promises.
- 3:21If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been
- 3:25no need for a second covenant to replace it.
- 3:28But when God found fault with the people, he said, the day is
- 3:33coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with my
- 3:37people of Israel and Judah. This covenant will not be like
- 3:41the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by
- 3:44the hand and LED them out of the land of Egypt.
- 3:48They did not remain faithful to my covenant.
- 3:51So I turn my back on them, says the Lord.
- 3:54But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of
- 3:58Israel on that day, says the Lord.
- 4:01I will put my laws in their minds and I will write them in
- 4:05their hearts. I will be their God and they
- 4:09will be my people. And they will not need to teach
- 4:12their neighbours, nor will they need to teach their relatives,
- 4:15saying, you should know the Lord.
- 4:18For everyone from the least to the greatest will know me
- 4:22already, and I will forgive their wickedness, and I will
- 4:26never again remember their sins. Now when God speaks of a new
- 4:33covenant, it means He has made the first one obsolete.
- 4:38It is now out of date and will soon disappear.
- 4:51Oh Jesus, you certainly did achieve so much for us.
- 4:56You have come to replace the old way of being and to give us an
- 5:01entirely new way of interacting with God, A way where you
- 5:06mediate between US and the Father.
- 5:08A way where you come with perfect grace that overshadows
- 5:13and floods over all of our imperfection, our inability, and
- 5:19our sins, so that what's left is US restored and renewed and
- 5:25perfect in your sight. Thank you, Jesus, for your
- 5:29transforming power. We are so dependent on it day by
- 5:34day, and you are so consistent in your continued faithfulness
- 5:40and patience with us. Oh Jesus, thank you.
- 5:43We just praise you and lift you up, placing you on that highest
- 5:48throne in our life that everything else would bow before
- 5:52you. A wonderful, saving God.
- 5:55We pray all of this in your name, Jesus, Amen.
