Latest / Foul Territory / Jurickson Profar’s 162-game PED suspension, WBC Power Rankings, Clayton McCullough on FT @Marlins camp
Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Breaking news. Popped again. Jerkson Profar is facing a one
- 0:08Speaker 1: hundred and sixty two games suspension after testing positive for
- 0:11Speaker 1: a performance enhancing drug for the second time. Remember he
- 0:15Speaker 1: missed half of last year when he was popped, then
- 0:18Speaker 1: he came back late last year. Braves didn't make the playoffs,
- 0:21Speaker 1: but he wouldn't have been eligible this time around. That
- 0:23Speaker 1: suspension doubles one full season. I see facing from passing
- 0:29Speaker 1: in from some others. Maybe that is because he could
- 0:34Speaker 1: try to appeal it. I haven't been able to read
- 0:37Speaker 1: the articles yet because we are on the air. Kratz
- 0:41Speaker 1: is shaking his head, so maybe I'm off there either way.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I mean, he's been caught multiple times, so I think
- 0:46Speaker 1: it's a done deal. Am I off on anything there?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Unless they changed how the process works. You test positive,
- 0:54Speaker 2: they test your second sample, it becomes a positive test,
- 0:58Speaker 2: You get notified. The team is not getting notified. You
- 1:02Speaker 2: have an appeals process. That appeals process unless you, as
- 1:06Speaker 2: the player, let it out in the public tell somebody
- 1:10Speaker 2: to write about it, Ryan Brown, then you can then
- 1:15Speaker 2: go through the appeals process. It usually takes anywhere from
- 1:19Speaker 2: fifteen to thirty days, and once that appeal comes back,
- 1:24Speaker 2: they say, nope, it's upheld. Then that's when it goes
- 1:28Speaker 2: out to the it's announced to the Players Association, to
- 1:32Speaker 2: Major League Baseball, the team, and then obviously it gets
- 1:36Speaker 2: released to the public. So I don't know how if
- 1:39Speaker 2: he has an appeals process that's pending, then it's his
- 1:44Speaker 2: camp that let it out, which could be the case.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Ridiculous, Sorry, ridiculous. Sorry.
- 1:53Speaker 4: And last year, remember everyone's like, oh, he made a mistake,
- 1:56Speaker 4: he didn't know what he put in his body.
- 1:57Speaker 3: What happened this time?
- 1:59Speaker 4: And I love I played with so far when he
- 2:01Speaker 4: first came up, but this, you can't have this happen.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Like, no matter what you there's no excuse
- 2:06Speaker 4: at this point if you don't and don't give me
- 2:08Speaker 4: the excuse. Also of oh, sometimes their trainers give them
- 2:11Speaker 4: stuff and they just trust the trainer. If you've already
- 2:13Speaker 4: been popped once, he damn sure better not trust your
- 2:16Speaker 4: trainer again.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Like what are we doing?
- 2:18Speaker 4: This is just now now this has becomes blatant cheating, right,
- 2:21Speaker 4: this is just blatant. I'm gonna I can out I
- 2:24Speaker 4: can outclass the system. I'm breaking the rules. I know
- 2:27Speaker 4: what I'm doing. You missed the whole year. You cost
- 2:29Speaker 4: yourself a bunch of money. I'm sorry, this this is
- 2:33Speaker 4: this is awful.
- 2:33Speaker 3: This is just awful.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Good time for the Braves to sign a starter.
- 2:37Speaker 1: By the way, so he remember he he popped off
- 2:41Speaker 1: on the field. Kratz had the famous quote about talking
- 2:47Speaker 1: about his exit velocity spiking this late in his career
- 2:51Speaker 1: and saying it was fishy. So he signed a three
- 2:54Speaker 1: or forty two million dollar deal with Atlanta last year.
- 2:59Speaker 1: The he was twelve mil. That was cut in half
- 3:02Speaker 1: so it was six. I'm talking about Atlanta as a
- 3:04Speaker 1: team that is dumbly profitable. But they didn't spend on
- 3:07Speaker 1: starting pitching like you thought they would this offseason and
- 3:10Speaker 1: they're down two starters. Now you're again looking like, hey,
- 3:14Speaker 1: what's the plan here? They will probably save another fifteen
- 3:18Speaker 1: million dollars on Profar, who, by the way, was not
- 3:21Speaker 1: thrilled about looking at a lot of DH time this
- 3:24Speaker 1: coming season. That's not going to be a thing now,
- 3:26Speaker 1: so wipe him off, right. I think they'll be fine
- 3:29Speaker 1: on the offensive void, but it's a team now that
- 3:32Speaker 1: AJ hasn't had to withstand a lot of the contract
- 3:35Speaker 1: for Profar. Again, I'm not saying it was a money
- 3:37Speaker 1: thing for the Braves this offseason because they are flowing
- 3:41Speaker 1: in cash. Ken Rosenthal has mentioned this multiple times on
- 3:44Speaker 1: Fair Territory, how they don't want to give up a
- 3:46Speaker 1: pitching spot like Bryce Elder or Joey Wentz.
- 3:49Speaker 5: They could be waiting.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And you don't like to say this, but maybe somebody
- 3:52Speaker 1: on the roster gets hurt and then they're able to
- 3:54Speaker 1: il that person and then they have a spot open
- 3:57Speaker 1: and they can sign someone like Zach Lettel or Lucas Giulito.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Seems like such a slam dunk for this team to
- 4:03Speaker 1: go after another starter.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Yes, but we'll see, agreed, We'll see Giulito Lttel. Those
- 4:10Speaker 4: are probably the two biggest names out there, and it
- 4:12Speaker 4: would make total sense. And now they have what fourteen
- 4:14Speaker 4: or fifteen million off the books, So here's your chance, Atlanta.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I think they're a move no matter what. Anyway, I
- 4:22Speaker 2: think I really think they're going to make that make
- 4:25Speaker 2: that final push at the end of spring training for somebody,
- 4:28Speaker 2: or maybe part way through spring training, but we're we're
- 4:30Speaker 2: getting towards the end.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Here, right. That was my point.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So, uh, they do have a void now, I mean,
- 4:37Speaker 1: we'll see who the DH is going to be I
- 4:38Speaker 1: guess for the team. It's not they could trade for
- 4:41Speaker 1: a bat, maybe they for Drake Bald but oh true, right,
- 4:48Speaker 1: you can just you can fit one of those guys
- 4:50Speaker 1: in to get more DH time. That's a good point,
- 4:53Speaker 1: very good point, ballid. Although Murphy is not going to
- 4:55Speaker 1: begin the year healthy, so at least start saying here, yeah,
- 4:59Speaker 1: at some point.
- 5:00Speaker 5: You can mix those guys in. That's fair.
- 5:12Speaker 1: AJ and Myrland's manager Clayton McCullough with us right now,
- 5:15Speaker 1: looks like the wind is flowing. We will do this
- 5:18Speaker 1: for a few minutes until the tornado hits. Clayton, great
- 5:20Speaker 1: to have you on, Thank you for the time.
- 5:22Speaker 2: How is everything?
- 5:23Speaker 6: Of course things are going well. Yes, there's a little
- 5:25Speaker 6: blustery here right now in Jupiter.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Huh yeah, here's problem.
- 5:28Speaker 4: We have Mark and Michael holds a tent and I'm like,
- 5:31Speaker 4: you can hit me, but Clayton's sitting on the tent
- 5:33Speaker 4: side it hits him.
- 5:34Speaker 3: We're gonna have action. Let's keep it off him.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Okay, okay, we'll keep you safe. You sound good though,
- 5:40Speaker 1: And how does the team look before? Obviously, many players
- 5:44Speaker 1: jumped to their World Baseball Classic teams in the past
- 5:47Speaker 1: couple of days.
- 5:47Speaker 5: What did the full squad look like.
- 5:50Speaker 6: It's been a good start to our camp and we
- 5:51Speaker 6: felt like there was a lot of optimism and excitement
- 5:55Speaker 6: from how things finished with us last year, certainly recognizing
- 5:58Speaker 6: that we have a long way to go to put
- 6:00Speaker 6: ourselves and we believe in a position to consistently compete
- 6:03Speaker 6: for the NL least in postseason appearances. But our crew
- 6:07Speaker 6: really had everybody saying this, we had a great off season,
- 6:10Speaker 6: a lot of guys physically came in in a great spot,
- 6:13Speaker 6: some weight gains, strength gains, So from that end, it's
- 6:16Speaker 6: been a good start to camp with a lot of
- 6:19Speaker 6: a lot of optimism and a competition going on throughout
- 6:22Speaker 6: each day.
- 6:23Speaker 2: How much of that stuff monitored? You talk about strength gains,
- 6:26Speaker 2: weight gains, weight and loss, all that stuff. How much
- 6:29Speaker 2: do you guys monitor it as a Marlins organization.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Yeah, it's something that we stayed on. We were very
- 6:35Speaker 6: diligent about our strength and conditioning staff, our training staff.
- 6:39Speaker 6: We have a team of nutritionists that were you know,
- 6:43Speaker 6: check ups with our players, you know, every couple of weeks,
- 6:45Speaker 6: and that you know, then also the the field staff
- 6:48Speaker 6: members myself and our pitching staff, hitting staff. So we
- 6:51Speaker 6: tried to really have a lot of touch points with
- 6:52Speaker 6: our players during the off season and you know, again
- 6:56Speaker 6: to you know, not to police them, but also just
- 6:59Speaker 6: to try to hate We're are you at now? These
- 7:00Speaker 6: are some goals we set for you entered in the
- 7:03Speaker 6: off season as we get to spring training, trying to
- 7:06Speaker 6: hit marks and proud of our group for how open
- 7:10Speaker 6: they were to that line of communication that we were
- 7:11Speaker 6: sending across the boso to speak, and I think they
- 7:14Speaker 6: recognize that, you know, being fast and powerful and explosive
- 7:18Speaker 6: is an important part of our sport.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Do you think you guys can do more? You came
- 7:23Speaker 2: from the Blue Jays back when I was there, then
- 7:26Speaker 2: you went to the Dodgers and saw what they were
- 7:28Speaker 2: doing in their development. Do you feel like when you
- 7:30Speaker 2: go to an organization like the Marlins who aren't going
- 7:33Speaker 2: to spend in free agency that's just that's obvious. Do
- 7:36Speaker 2: you feel like you can do more? Because I think
- 7:38Speaker 2: people from the outside think, oh man, he's a professional
- 7:41Speaker 2: baseball player. They must always just be training them and
- 7:44Speaker 2: doing all this stuff. Could you guys, as an organization
- 7:47Speaker 2: do more?
- 7:48Speaker 6: I think we're certainly trying to do more and if
- 7:50Speaker 6: we've invested a lot of capital into that side of things. Mean,
- 7:54Speaker 6: do you come see our facility now here in Jupiter.
- 7:57Speaker 6: The renovations that we're done here are incredible. Our weight room,
- 8:01Speaker 6: training room facility now is a separate building and a
- 8:04Speaker 6: large turf area. So I think that statement alone sends
- 8:07Speaker 6: a great message to our players of the importance and
- 8:10Speaker 6: significance that we're putting on that as well as renovations
- 8:13Speaker 6: that have been done in Miami. So it's certainly an
- 8:16Speaker 6: area that we are prioritizing and placing a lot of
- 8:18Speaker 6: emphasis on and you know, believing it's just another way
- 8:21Speaker 6: that we can hopefully you know, develop our players in
- 8:25Speaker 6: a sense and that way better than other people.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Do you call the guys personally? Because you said your
- 8:29Speaker 4: trainers and your weight and the nutritions, how about you?
- 8:32Speaker 4: Do you call or do you go see them?
- 8:33Speaker 3: Perfectly?
- 8:34Speaker 6: I do, I try. I do. I give them all
- 8:37Speaker 6: a little bit of space when the season finished, and
- 8:39Speaker 6: I myself personally, like some time when this we spent
- 8:42Speaker 6: so much time together, as you guys know, and then
- 8:44Speaker 6: everyone's go go home and reconnect, like go back with
- 8:46Speaker 6: your loved whens, your family. We all a lot of
- 8:49Speaker 6: these guys are myself included, fathers and husbands, so have
- 8:52Speaker 6: some time to digest things before you shift to getting
- 8:56Speaker 6: ready for next year. But it happens quickly and then
- 8:58Speaker 6: it is phone calls tech. Uh, there's We have a
- 9:01Speaker 6: number of players that live in this area in the
- 9:03Speaker 6: off season, so having the chance to be able to
- 9:04Speaker 6: go watch them as they get into their bullpens. Sandy
- 9:07Speaker 6: and UDERI aren't too far down the road towards Miami,
- 9:10Speaker 6: so do try to get out and see some guys
- 9:12Speaker 6: in person, and you know, stay connected, you know via
- 9:17Speaker 6: text and phone as well.
- 9:18Speaker 4: How do you handle the WBC stuff as a manager?
- 9:20Speaker 4: You're playing Team Israel today, you treat that like a
- 9:23Speaker 4: regular game. And then how do you handle your own
- 9:25Speaker 4: guys like Sandy that are gone to the Dominican You
- 9:27Speaker 4: just you just sit there and say please, please, just
- 9:30Speaker 4: getting through this healthy.
- 9:32Speaker 6: We certainly probably all want our guys to come back
- 9:34Speaker 6: here healthy. And the conversations I have Ernie went with
- 9:37Speaker 6: Team Canada. We have three players there. Ernie's great Albert
- 9:39Speaker 6: Poolholts with the d R. We've been in contact with
- 9:42Speaker 6: Team Midley, Marcy Is and more. Just try to give
- 9:46Speaker 6: them a gauge of you know, where our players were
- 9:48Speaker 6: in camp, what we're able to do from a build
- 9:49Speaker 6: up standpoint, Get a gauge an idea of how they're
- 9:52Speaker 6: seeing that the playing time look like their end and
- 9:56Speaker 6: you know, want to appreciate that they want to go
- 9:57Speaker 6: win and this is this tournament is a big deal
- 10:00Speaker 6: for each representative country as well as the sport of baseball.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Will also you know, we have a selfish interest in
- 10:06Speaker 6: our own players, you know, continuing to play, which they'd
- 10:09Speaker 6: be doing here, but also hopefully coming back to our
- 10:10Speaker 6: camp healthy.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Do you have did you have any arguments or reservations
- 10:17Speaker 2: about any of your players going as an organization and
- 10:20Speaker 2: you being part of those conversations.
- 10:23Speaker 6: Yeah, no, we didn't have any any real reservations. Means say,
- 10:25Speaker 6: I was excited for Sandy. I mean, you know, I
- 10:28Speaker 6: know how imagine how important that is for him to
- 10:31Speaker 6: put on the d R uniform, get to pitch and
- 10:34Speaker 6: loan depot. He's going to throw against Team Venezuela, which
- 10:37Speaker 6: will be an electric atmosphere, and with so many youthful
- 10:40Speaker 6: players on our roster, mean someone like Liam Hicks, who
- 10:43Speaker 6: I mean, it wasn't long ago, he's in the Texas League,
- 10:45Speaker 6: and then now he has a year of service, he
- 10:46Speaker 6: has a chance to play for Team Candidate. I think
- 10:48Speaker 6: it's a great opportunity for them to be in some
- 10:51Speaker 6: environments that we hope that we're playing in in the
- 10:53Speaker 6: not too distant future, to feel that a little bit
- 10:56Speaker 6: and you know, get that type of energy and excitement.
- 10:59Speaker 6: And so for the most part, you know, I'm excited
- 11:02Speaker 6: for them having a chance to go do that, and yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 6: fingers crossed they come back in a good spot for us.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Where are you guys at this year, because I last
- 11:10Speaker 4: year was better probably than most people expected. And we
- 11:14Speaker 4: have some Marlin fans in Twitter and in our chat
- 11:16Speaker 4: to defend you guys to the death Right. And when
- 11:19Speaker 4: you guys traded Weathers, I said, man, that seems like
- 11:21Speaker 4: a guy they might want to cake eve. And they're like, oh,
- 11:23Speaker 4: they got pitching for months, they got twenty twenty prospect pictures,
- 11:26Speaker 4: they have plenty of pictures. So how do you balance
- 11:29Speaker 4: last year with what you guys did with you and
- 11:30Speaker 4: now you have a little bit of expectations to move
- 11:33Speaker 4: to this year.
- 11:33Speaker 6: Yeah, the expectations are good, and I think it's something
- 11:36Speaker 6: that we're embracing and but I said it to our
- 11:39Speaker 6: group last year that a lot of the outside noise
- 11:42Speaker 6: and how people may predict or forecast what type of
- 11:44Speaker 6: season we're going to have, we'll have little bearing on
- 11:47Speaker 6: what we actually do, and what we did in twenty
- 11:50Speaker 6: five will have little to do with how we play
- 11:52Speaker 6: in twenty six. Like we need to get better across
- 11:54Speaker 6: the board. We need the players that someone established themselves
- 11:57Speaker 6: as ones we're counting on this year to continue to
- 11:59Speaker 6: take steps. And there's anything really different this year than
- 12:03Speaker 6: last year was. I do think we come into this
- 12:05Speaker 6: camp with a little more clarity in a lot of
- 12:07Speaker 6: places on the field, while still having runway open for
- 12:11Speaker 6: a lot of individuals to get an opportunity if they
- 12:13Speaker 6: perform their way there. And we can never have enough pitching,
- 12:16Speaker 6: no one can. We do feel like we have a
- 12:19Speaker 6: talented group of arms that are either going to break
- 12:21Speaker 6: and start with us in Miami or those that will
- 12:23Speaker 6: be in Triple A that will compete and perform their
- 12:27Speaker 6: way to our team if needed. So the outlook we
- 12:32Speaker 6: feel like is bright and not just on the field
- 12:34Speaker 6: at the major league level. We think organizationally, a lot
- 12:36Speaker 6: of initiatives and things that we put into place, we
- 12:38Speaker 6: believe are going to be firmer this year and hopefully
- 12:42Speaker 6: allow us as an entire group to continue to move forward.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Hey, I know your team didn't make the postseason last year,
- 12:49Speaker 1: but it was a fun finish to the season. Your
- 12:51Speaker 1: team was able to play spoiler against the club that
- 12:54Speaker 1: would have made the playoffs. What was your take on
- 12:56Speaker 1: what happened there in the last few days. I remember
- 12:59Speaker 1: when we covered it, we were like, good for them,
- 13:01Speaker 1: let them celebrate. I mean, you're trying to win every
- 13:03Speaker 1: single game. I felt like some maybe you know up
- 13:06Speaker 1: North and where I am right now in New York,
- 13:09Speaker 1: press wise, or people on social media were like, oh,
- 13:11Speaker 1: how dare they celebrate what a loser take to celebrate
- 13:14Speaker 1: beating a team and playing spoiler? And I was like
- 13:16Speaker 1: completely disagreeing with that. Did you feel the same way.
- 13:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean we were. We were in Philadelphia before
- 13:24Speaker 6: that series, and like we we were telling us, hey,
- 13:26Speaker 6: we have a chip and a chair, like we still
- 13:28Speaker 6: had a very small but a realistic chance of getting
- 13:30Speaker 6: in and when the sun set on our season, we
- 13:35Speaker 6: were disappointed. And then also told them guys, like your job,
- 13:38Speaker 6: like we're finished we're finishing this season like we set
- 13:40Speaker 6: out this year to you know, play every game all
- 13:42Speaker 6: the way out and you know, let's you know, the
- 13:45Speaker 6: Mets and ruin their season. You're like, we're going to
- 13:47Speaker 6: go out there and we owe it to ourselves and
- 13:49Speaker 6: we owe it to the fans that are going to
- 13:51Speaker 6: come out here to go and your professionals, like, we
- 13:53Speaker 6: need to go play these games to win like we
- 13:55Speaker 6: have every other day this season. And if we're able
- 13:58Speaker 6: to win this series and knock the Mets out, then
- 14:00Speaker 6: they can go enjoy the same offseason that U that
- 14:02Speaker 6: we're about to have. So we didn't feel sorry for
- 14:04Speaker 6: the Mets. I can promise you.
- 14:05Speaker 3: That you did it. You actually did.
- 14:06Speaker 6: We played well that series.
- 14:07Speaker 4: It was great for the Marlins and for your players.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Plus it's a playoff atmosphere where you have to win
- 14:12Speaker 4: the games that it can only help you down.
- 14:14Speaker 6: The road exactly. We want our guys to feel that
- 14:16Speaker 6: and that every year that we get late into September
- 14:19Speaker 6: that there is something on the line with every game
- 14:21Speaker 6: that we're playing, and that feeling when we do get
- 14:24Speaker 6: to October is only going to be magnified and to
- 14:28Speaker 6: you know, appreciate what it takes to put yourself in
- 14:30Speaker 6: position to be playing those games and trust that you know,
- 14:34Speaker 6: what you've done to that point has prepared you for
- 14:37Speaker 6: you know what's ahead.
- 14:38Speaker 3: By the way, did you how do you deal with Oh, sorry,
- 14:41Speaker 3: craps go on?
- 14:42Speaker 2: Oh no, No, I was just gonna say, did you
- 14:44Speaker 2: have to be the one to say that? Did your
- 14:45Speaker 2: coaches have to be the one to say, guys, We're
- 14:48Speaker 2: not We're not giving up on this. You know you guys,
- 14:50Speaker 2: I get it. We didn't get where we wanted to
- 14:52Speaker 2: be the playoffs. But was there players in that clubhouse?
- 14:56Speaker 2: When you see young teams, you just wonder like, who's
- 14:59Speaker 2: the guy that's step were they're players that stepped up
- 15:01Speaker 2: and said, hey, guys, like we still are going to
- 15:03Speaker 2: play this all the way out and we can play spoiler.
- 15:06Speaker 6: Yeah. It was probably the only team meeting I think
- 15:08Speaker 6: I had all season long was when we got back
- 15:10Speaker 6: to Miami after the Philadelphia series, and it was one
- 15:14Speaker 6: I expressed my disappointment, Like I tell him, like, there's
- 15:16Speaker 6: nothing better those of you that haven't experienced than popping champagne.
- 15:20Speaker 6: And whether that's you know, getting in as a wild
- 15:21Speaker 6: card or winning a division, winning playoff series. So I
- 15:24Speaker 6: was disappointed that you guys this year aren't going to
- 15:27Speaker 6: have the chance to feel that. But that doesn't mean that,
- 15:29Speaker 6: Like what we have now these three games is still
- 15:32Speaker 6: like let's not forget what we You know, when we
- 15:35Speaker 6: set our goals for the season, it was to be
- 15:37Speaker 6: better than we started and it was to finish strong,
- 15:39Speaker 6: and we have that opportunity still. So look, Sandy was
- 15:41Speaker 6: going to pitch that first game, like everybody's sitting in
- 15:43Speaker 6: this room, like, you owe it to whoever's out there
- 15:45Speaker 6: to come out and play your very best. You know,
- 15:48Speaker 6: jury's going to care tomorrow what this about? This game?
- 15:51Speaker 6: Cabby the next day, So you owe it's more than
- 15:53Speaker 6: just you. It's it's about your teammates and your professional
- 15:57Speaker 6: responsibility to come out here and like this is just
- 15:59Speaker 6: what we do.
- 16:00Speaker 4: What did it mean more that it was in the division,
- 16:03Speaker 4: because you listen, the division is your division, right. You
- 16:06Speaker 4: obviously have the Mets, who are now turned into kind
- 16:08Speaker 4: of a spending behemoth. Philly's not afraid. Atlanta's done a
- 16:12Speaker 4: nice thing with what they've done. The Nationals are they
- 16:15Speaker 4: used to be They used to be one of those teams.
- 16:17Speaker 4: And then you have the Marlins, right, does it mean
- 16:20Speaker 4: more like you beat the Mets to knock them out
- 16:22Speaker 4: of the playoffs, I know you didn't get in.
- 16:24Speaker 3: It does it mean still mean more to win against
- 16:26Speaker 3: teams in your division?
- 16:29Speaker 6: It definitely means more to winning in your division. It's
- 16:31Speaker 6: like that's something if we ever, you know, we want
- 16:33Speaker 6: to win this division and you need to beat the
- 16:35Speaker 6: teams in your division, and uh, what do you think
- 16:38Speaker 6: this is a great opportunity for us? I like, yes,
- 16:40Speaker 6: I love Carlos Mendez and the Mets, like you know,
- 16:42Speaker 6: and they have a great roster and Walt Weiss in Atlanta,
- 16:45Speaker 6: and they've had a ton of success, you know, Rob
- 16:48Speaker 6: Thompson and Philly Now he's such a pro and their
- 16:50Speaker 6: group of veteran professionals, and Washington's gonna they're gonna make
- 16:54Speaker 6: some moves here, you know, in the next few years.
- 16:55Speaker 6: So we look at our division as a really exciting
- 16:58Speaker 6: challenge and something we're embracing. So to say it wasn't
- 17:02Speaker 6: a little sweeter to knock out a divisional opponent, I
- 17:05Speaker 6: think now as I sit here, i'd be making that up.
- 17:07Speaker 6: I felt before we.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Let you guys, got to ask you this because We've
- 17:10Speaker 4: had a conversation and you guys are doing it. You're
- 17:12Speaker 4: calling the pitches. Is a catcher.
- 17:14Speaker 3: You're calling the pitches from the dugout? Why? And it
- 17:17Speaker 3: breaks my heart. I know not have a catcher that
- 17:19Speaker 3: can call the old game. They can call their game.
- 17:22Speaker 6: I knew AJ and Eric would not.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I wasn't.
- 17:27Speaker 3: I'm not getting should talk about it.
- 17:28Speaker 6: It is it was something that this was. I mean
- 17:31Speaker 6: even shortly after I was hired, that this was organizationally like.
- 17:35Speaker 6: We were discussing this as we felt like this is
- 17:37Speaker 6: like I had real potential. Not about what our catchers
- 17:41Speaker 6: could or couldn't do, but we just felt like that
- 17:44Speaker 6: the delivery system changing where we can get what we
- 17:48Speaker 6: feel like is the optimal pitch each time sent in
- 17:50Speaker 6: that choice a sent in each time. We felt that
- 17:54Speaker 6: it would be advantageous for us and our pitchers would
- 17:56Speaker 6: perform better. We'd prevent more runs over time, again leaning
- 18:01Speaker 6: into their strengths, and our pitching coach is doing so
- 18:04Speaker 6: much work. They have information being sent to them our
- 18:08Speaker 6: catchers freeing them up some from this and it's not
- 18:10Speaker 6: to This is not going to be a take that
- 18:13Speaker 6: everyone certainly agrees with, but expending their bandwidth in other areas,
- 18:16Speaker 6: while ultimately we think it's going to lead to us
- 18:19Speaker 6: winning more games, and with where we're at two wins
- 18:21Speaker 6: in a season, one extra win could be the difference
- 18:24Speaker 6: in us, you know, continuing to play or not. And
- 18:28Speaker 6: I felt like the juncture in the season at when
- 18:30Speaker 6: we implemented this, like the last eight games, was the
- 18:33Speaker 6: right time from just a trust standpoint, from we threw
- 18:37Speaker 6: so much at our group last year from day one
- 18:40Speaker 6: to spring training through the season that we knew this
- 18:42Speaker 6: wasn't going to be a very popular take, but that
- 18:45Speaker 6: was okay, Like I have no problem you know, answering
- 18:48Speaker 6: all those questions and standing up for our group, and
- 18:50Speaker 6: that the amount of trust that our pitching coaches had
- 18:53Speaker 6: built an equity with our pitchers throughout that that it
- 18:56Speaker 6: was the time to roll this out, knowing that this
- 18:58Speaker 6: year we were going to do it full time. And
- 19:00Speaker 6: just again, our catchers and our pitchers have the ability
- 19:03Speaker 6: to shake. We have the same pregame type meetings where
- 19:06Speaker 6: we're talking about their strengths and usages and hitters. The
- 19:09Speaker 6: conversations that doug out are very similar. The difference is
- 19:13Speaker 6: who's initiating choice A where it's going. He's just getting
- 19:16Speaker 6: from starting from a different place.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I get it, I do get it.
- 19:21Speaker 4: But I mean that was something as a catcher you
- 19:23Speaker 4: kind of had to learn and it kind of became
- 19:25Speaker 4: a strength for people. So to me, again, I'm obviously
- 19:29Speaker 4: played forever ago and I don't want to be the
- 19:31Speaker 4: old guy in Alawn. I mean, I get what you
- 19:32Speaker 4: do because everybody high school, college, they never get to
- 19:36Speaker 4: call their own pitches before until they got to the
- 19:38Speaker 4: minor leagues.
- 19:39Speaker 3: And a lot of the catchers said, well, I don't
- 19:41Speaker 3: even know what I'm doing. I've never had to do
- 19:42Speaker 3: this before.
- 19:43Speaker 4: But what do you say to like Kratz and I
- 19:45Speaker 4: that's argument would be, well, that you're not back there
- 19:48Speaker 4: so you can't see. Maybe Sandy doesn't have a slider
- 19:51Speaker 4: that day, but maybe it might be the right time
- 19:53Speaker 4: to throw a slider, but he's throwing spinners that day,
- 19:55Speaker 4: or he can't locate it. We need a good three
- 19:57Speaker 4: to two slider, but his sinker's really working that day.
- 20:00Speaker 4: What do you And it's let's say it's the first inning.
- 20:02Speaker 4: It's a big situation. We haven't had time to have
- 20:04Speaker 4: that conversation with the pitching coach and then whack, God forbid,
- 20:07Speaker 4: he gives up a basis clearing double and you're and
- 20:10Speaker 4: the catcher's like, yeah, but the slider wasn't good in
- 20:12Speaker 4: the bullpen and it wasn't good that first inning.
- 20:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean that those are we know, those are
- 20:16Speaker 6: things that are coming. And the feel component that you
- 20:20Speaker 6: know catchers have from sitting back there, certainly, I think
- 20:24Speaker 6: I would say that, look, we just we believe that yes,
- 20:26Speaker 6: this first inning, that might not be in the pitch,
- 20:28Speaker 6: but we are talking about you know, every game, every
- 20:31Speaker 6: pitch of the season, and we believe that this is
- 20:33Speaker 6: this strategy is going to went out. And we're also
- 20:36Speaker 6: you know, a jamn, I'm gonna lean on you with
- 20:37Speaker 6: how you think things are going and feeling and your
- 20:40Speaker 6: soft skills as a catcher and your ability to get
- 20:42Speaker 6: this person in the zone and you're targeting and the
- 20:45Speaker 6: conversations you have and when you go kick him in
- 20:46Speaker 6: the butt are just as imperative and important as they've
- 20:49Speaker 6: always you know been.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Okay, that's fair. I don't have to like it, but
- 20:53Speaker 4: we'll see how it comes. I mean, I appreciate you
- 20:56Speaker 4: giving me the reasons. Doesn't mean I have to like it. No,
- 20:58Speaker 4: and you said people aren't gonna lie. But as an
- 21:00Speaker 4: old Catcher and Kratz, I know Krats. You know, Kratz
- 21:03Speaker 4: feels the same.
- 21:04Speaker 6: You know.
- 21:04Speaker 2: It's just I'm not as old as you. I'm not enough,
- 21:07Speaker 2: You're you're a living fossil.
- 21:10Speaker 4: True, But yeah, I understand, I understand. So I appreciate
- 21:13Speaker 4: you explaining it to me. Thank you you well. Doesn't
- 21:15Speaker 4: mean I have to agree with, of course not still
- 21:17Speaker 4: be friends.
- 21:17Speaker 5: Yes, sir, yeah you're breaking their hearts a little bit.
- 21:20Speaker 1: But I'm glad we talked about this great question from
- 21:22Speaker 1: AJ and yeah you got two catchers mostly hosting the show.
- 21:26Speaker 1: So thank you for the time. Clayton really appreciated and
- 21:28Speaker 1: the answer there. Good luck this season. We'll catch it
- 21:31Speaker 1: at some point during the year.
- 21:32Speaker 6: Okay, okay, guys, love to visit. Thanks.
- 21:35Speaker 1: We didn't get to this yesterday because it was announced
- 21:37Speaker 1: during the show. The Spring Breakout has been around for
- 21:42Speaker 1: a couple of years. That's when you get a lot
- 21:44Speaker 1: of the top prospects playing in games during spring It's fun.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I mean, we love prospects. You get a lot of
- 21:49Speaker 1: them in the same game facing off, right, Because usually
- 21:52Speaker 1: during a season you'll see guys spread out across the
- 21:55Speaker 1: minor leagues, and this enables a team to say, hey,
- 21:58Speaker 1: let's take our top ten, fifteen, twenty prospects, whatever it is,
- 22:00Speaker 1: as many as we can get, and put them in
- 22:03Speaker 1: one game for our particular team against another team in
- 22:05Speaker 1: that same spot. That'll happen later on in March. The
- 22:10Speaker 1: games this year are scheduled for the nineteenth through the
- 22:12Speaker 1: twenty second.
- 22:13Speaker 5: That'll get us passed World Baseball Classic. It's fun.
- 22:15Speaker 1: So we get WBC, then we get Spring breakout going forward,
- 22:19Speaker 1: we're actually going to get that done as a tournament,
- 22:22Speaker 1: which I think is pretty fun. So they're going to
- 22:23Speaker 1: do single elimination, head to head.
- 22:25Speaker 5: Did you hear about this?
- 22:26Speaker 1: You might have missed the what Yeah, starting next year,
- 22:30Speaker 1: I think they've got it locked in for at least
- 22:32Speaker 1: the next couple of years. They're going to do that. Remember,
- 22:35Speaker 1: last year might get a little bit tricky because we're
- 22:36Speaker 1: gonna have.
- 22:37Speaker 5: A match up.
- 22:37Speaker 1: It'll probably go into spring training, but minor leaguers don't
- 22:44Speaker 1: have to deal with that. If you're not on the
- 22:45Speaker 1: forty man roster, their CBA expires a year later, so
- 22:49Speaker 1: we might get minor league spring training breakout games, and
- 22:53Speaker 1: it'll be a tournament and there'll be a lot of
- 22:54Speaker 1: people checking that out. That's the top prospects in the
- 22:58Speaker 1: sport for their respective teams playing an x shibition game.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Starting next year, that will be a single elimination tournament
- 23:04Speaker 1: to determine a champ in the Cactus League and in
- 23:06Speaker 1: the grape Fruit League. To me, it's two things here.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Number One, it makes those games more interesting. Number Two,
- 23:13Speaker 1: it is MLB's attempt at a tournament without doing an
- 23:17Speaker 1: in season tournament like the NBA, and the NBA I
- 23:20Speaker 1: think has lost its way a little bit right now
- 23:23Speaker 1: in the regular season. So this is fun and harmless,
- 23:26Speaker 1: right And number three, next year, I think that tournament
- 23:30Speaker 1: goes on regardless of what's happening in our sport at
- 23:34Speaker 1: the lockout level, because most of those players are minor
- 23:37Speaker 1: league players. They're not on forty man rosters. If you
- 23:39Speaker 1: are in a forty man roster, that's different, then you
- 23:41Speaker 1: won't be playing. But if you're not, the minor league
- 23:45Speaker 1: collective bargaining agreement doesn't expire until a year l later,
- 23:48Speaker 1: so the minor league season will play next year and
- 23:51Speaker 1: they will be in their regular camp and prep format
- 23:55Speaker 1: going into the year, unlike MLB players, which will almost
- 24:00Speaker 1: certainly be delayed heading into spring training. If we do
- 24:03Speaker 1: have a spring training.
- 24:06Speaker 6: I love it.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I don't love the fact that there could be a
- 24:09Speaker 2: little delayed spring training start. My hope is that that
- 24:12Speaker 2: doesn't help, that doesn't happen. But I love this tournament.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I love the fact that they're able to kind of
- 24:19Speaker 2: find because we're always looking for that. Like Niche, it's
- 24:21Speaker 2: too early to do this, can never do it in
- 24:24Speaker 2: the middle of the season. You know, there's so many
- 24:27Speaker 2: give and takes. But this is a bunch of minor
- 24:29Speaker 2: leaguers who really at the end of spring training you're like, oh, man,
- 24:34Speaker 2: lets let's get let's get going, and they're pitting organization
- 24:39Speaker 2: versus organization. You win, you move on, you lose. You
- 24:44Speaker 2: got to go back to learning how to run to
- 24:46Speaker 2: first base at nine o'clock in the morning on field six.
- 24:49Speaker 2: So I think there's motivation, and you know what else
- 24:52Speaker 2: it does. It sells the future of the game, which
- 24:55Speaker 2: is all I ask for from anything in Major League Baseball.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Let's charging them out, Let's charge the mound.
- 25:04Speaker 1: It's presented by the Fox one app and let's talk
- 25:08Speaker 1: about the World Baseball Classic. So this is what we're
- 25:10Speaker 1: gonna do today, Guys, power rankings. MLB dot Com put
- 25:14Speaker 1: power rankings out there for the World Baseball Classic teams
- 25:19Speaker 1: that they think are in the best standing and they're
- 25:22Speaker 1: i think factoring in some past performance as you should,
- 25:26Speaker 1: as good as the Team USA roster looks on paper.
- 25:29Speaker 1: They did not win last time around. So MLB dot
- 25:33Speaker 1: Com put Japan number one. They still have the best
- 25:36Speaker 1: player in the world in Otani. Even if he doesn't pitch,
- 25:39Speaker 1: I still think he might in the right situation. You
- 25:41Speaker 1: still have one of the best pitchers and one of
- 25:43Speaker 1: the most clutch guys on the mound starting games for
- 25:45Speaker 1: them in Yoshi Yamamoto, say A Suzuki and many others
- 25:49Speaker 1: part of that lineup. I'll just run through the rest
- 25:51Speaker 1: and then I'll let you guys slice and dice. Age
- 25:53Speaker 1: is going to be calling some of these games coming up.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Team USA is in the two slot. Then they have
- 25:58Speaker 1: the Dominican Republic, led by guys like Laddie Junior, Wan Soto,
- 26:01Speaker 1: Julio Rodriguez, Fernando Tatis, Junior Venezuela, featuring guys like Ronald
- 26:06Speaker 1: Lacuna Junior Ranger Suarez on the mound, William Contreras, and
- 26:10Speaker 1: they have Team Mexico at five, Puerto Rico six, Korea seven,
- 26:14Speaker 1: Canada eight, Colombia nine, Netherlands ten, Chinese type eleven, and
- 26:19Speaker 1: Team Italy at twelve, focusing on the top five aj
- 26:25Speaker 1: any places that you would mix and match.
- 26:30Speaker 4: I honestly, Scott, I can hear you, but I can't see,
- 26:33Speaker 4: so I I am trying to see the thing.
- 26:36Speaker 1: You don't need to see. You don't need to see AJA,
- 26:38Speaker 1: I mean, and for the podcast. Okay, So you have
- 26:41Speaker 1: them over Japan, Okay.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Yes, just because I'm from USA.
- 26:45Speaker 4: I'm not from Japan, so I'm going to root for
- 26:46Speaker 4: the USA, right, Yeah, that's concidiously give me analysis.
- 26:51Speaker 5: Why do you have a Team USA above Japan.
- 26:53Speaker 4: I just think you're I think a lot of the
- 26:54Speaker 4: players now that we're on Japan have started to trickle
- 26:57Speaker 4: over to the United States. People have seen them more
- 27:00Speaker 4: more bats. They're not full they're not at full strength
- 27:02Speaker 4: like they have been in the past, just because of
- 27:04Speaker 4: worries about different things. And I think that USA has
- 27:08Speaker 4: finally gotten to point where they're starting to get a
- 27:11Speaker 4: lot of not all, but a lot of their best pitchers.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Skiings two starts, slogan web, two starts, schoobl Yes, I
- 27:16Speaker 4: know everyone's complaining, but it's still fifty five pitches against
- 27:19Speaker 4: Great Britain.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Right. Then they have Matthew Boyd. They have a lot
- 27:23Speaker 3: of their best players.
- 27:25Speaker 4: The position players look at that lineup today and tell
- 27:27Speaker 4: me that's not a good lineup, right, And then they're
- 27:29Speaker 4: starting to get a lot of the best pitchers. So
- 27:31Speaker 4: I think USA wants to win. They need to win
- 27:33Speaker 4: this one. Japan has three, USA only has one. It's
- 27:36Speaker 4: time USA, so it's time. Plus some might work for
- 27:39Speaker 4: USA Baseball at one point coming up soon, so of
- 27:41Speaker 4: course I'm rooting for the USA.
- 27:44Speaker 3: I'm biased.
- 27:46Speaker 2: You're the most chameleon person I've ever seen. Tell them
- 27:50Speaker 2: somebody from New York, Yo, bro, I'm from New York, Yo. Chicago,
- 27:54Speaker 2: I love Chicago. Y'all from Florida, Yo. I'm a coach
- 27:57Speaker 2: Team Poland. Now it's gonna be Team USA. Hey, whatever
- 28:01Speaker 2: it is. Either way, I believe that TV USA is
- 28:06Speaker 2: the most talented team. But when we talk about power rankings,
- 28:10Speaker 2: I'm viewing it as who is the who has the
- 28:13Speaker 2: best chance of winning and I still think until it
- 28:17Speaker 2: doesn't happen, Japan has the best chance of winning this.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Maybe they don't have the best talent. Maybe there's talent
- 28:24Speaker 2: we don't see. Like Aj said, some of these guys,
- 28:27Speaker 2: you're starting to see Saya, you start, You've seen Otani forever,
- 28:30Speaker 2: You've seen yamamotos. So these guys have an idea of
- 28:33Speaker 2: what they're actually bringing to the table. The reality is
- 28:37Speaker 2: these dudes have been playing and are game ready sooner.
- 28:42Speaker 2: They haven't been playing their season. But Team Japan they
- 28:46Speaker 2: call them. In other years, they call it Team Samurai.
- 28:49Speaker 2: They have there, they have like almost like a camp
- 28:53Speaker 2: where they're coming together and they're staying ready. What that
- 28:57Speaker 2: looks like, I have no idea of The guys told
- 29:00Speaker 2: me about it when we played over there. They stay
- 29:04Speaker 2: ready differently than our pitchers do, then our hitters do,
- 29:08Speaker 2: and so it's something that you get the opportunity to
- 29:11Speaker 2: be together as a team. A lot longer than Team USA,
- 29:14Speaker 2: a lot longer than the dr a lot longer than Venezuela,
- 29:17Speaker 2: all teams that have a lot of talent, just like Japan,
- 29:20Speaker 2: but they've been playing together, working together, and they're ramped
- 29:24Speaker 2: up to a different point, minus the guys who are
- 29:27Speaker 2: on big league teams in MLB, but it is, it's
- 29:31Speaker 2: just different, and I think that gives them a very
- 29:34Speaker 2: distinct advantage in this tournament where it's like Team USA Japan,
- 29:39Speaker 2: I mean Team USA, Dominican Venezuela. They're gonna go out
- 29:43Speaker 2: and it's like, Hey, if this star can do something,
- 29:46Speaker 2: they're gonna beat you. Where Japan's gonna lay that bunt down,
- 29:48Speaker 2: They're gonna move the runner over, They're gonna do things
- 29:51Speaker 2: to be able to win tournament style baseball.
- 29:55Speaker 4: By the way, Aaron Judges, the captain of Team USA,
- 29:57Speaker 4: what don't mean more to them or what's bigger winning
- 30:00Speaker 4: the WBC or getting a World Series with the Yankees?
- 30:04Speaker 5: The World Series with the Yanks.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Obviously, Oh no, you can't say that, Scott, because you
- 30:09Speaker 3: said the other day that this means.
- 30:10Speaker 1: More than Oh my god, get off, Scott, Get off
- 30:14Speaker 1: your stump. We're about to call those you can you
- 30:16Speaker 1: can like both, you need to add them. And hey,
- 30:18Speaker 1: he's got a much better chance of winning a World
- 30:21Speaker 1: Baseball Classic right now with the team that he's sporting
- 30:23Speaker 1: out there.
- 30:24Speaker 5: I mean, it's the facts, by.
- 30:26Speaker 3: The way, I mean We didn't even mention the DR.
- 30:28Speaker 3: The DR team is stacked.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Well that was that was gonna be my follow here. Yeah,
- 30:32Speaker 1: I think the rankings are fine, but the DR is stacked.
- 30:36Speaker 1: You're right, Aj, And it's not just the lineup. The
- 30:38Speaker 1: lineup can keep up with any other lineup. I'm like
- 30:41Speaker 1: Christopher Sanchez Sandel Contra one two in the rotation, and
- 30:44Speaker 1: they're gonna let them go, right, They're gonna let them eat.
- 30:47Speaker 1: They're gonna get their turns. USA has to do a
- 30:49Speaker 1: little more mixing and matching. We learned not just s
- 30:51Speaker 1: google pitching against Great Britain. It's gonna be fifty five
- 30:53Speaker 1: pitches then he goes home. He's not going to pitch again.
- 30:56Speaker 1: So they'll there will be a little more puzzle piece
- 30:58Speaker 1: solving for team versus a team like the Dominican Republic
- 31:02Speaker 1: that's just gonna probably roll those four or maybe one
- 31:06Speaker 1: other right for one or two turn or two turns
- 31:09Speaker 1: here in the tournament. They're going to make sure they
- 31:11Speaker 1: line those guys up the way that they need to
- 31:13Speaker 1: line up, where Team USA has to kind of tinker with. Okay,
- 31:15Speaker 1: how many days rest does you get? Like it's just
- 31:18Speaker 1: gonna be a little bit different in my mind. For
- 31:19Speaker 1: Team USA, that'll be the trick is getting through all
- 31:22Speaker 1: of the rules that some of the pitchers have. Anyway,
- 31:25Speaker 1: we'll talk much more about this. Of course, forty seven
- 31:27Speaker 1: games and it starts tomorrow. Forty seven WBC games starting
- 31:31Speaker 1: tomorrow on the Fox one app, you can stream the
- 31:34Speaker 1: World Baseball Classic live from March sixth through the fourteenth.

- 32:01Speaker 1: Baseball Classics. So again, start your free seven day trial
- 32:04Speaker 1: today on the Fox one app at foxwe dot com. Hey,
- 32:08Speaker 1: the Spring Training Tour is engineered by fasten All where
- 32:11Speaker 1: industry meets innovation. For more information, go to Fastenall dot com.
- 32:16Speaker 1: That's fast e n al dot com. And we love
- 32:20Speaker 1: them for sponsoring the Spring Training Tour, which is now
- 32:23Speaker 1: in its third week of existence.
- 32:26Speaker 5: It's the longest.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Spring training tour in baseball five weeks, and during week
- 32:31Speaker 1: three here we're finishing up Marlins camp with maybe one
- 32:34Speaker 1: or two more interviews. Kyle Stewers will join us next,
- 32:37Speaker 1: then Mets, Nationals, Astros around out the rest of the week,
- 32:40Speaker 1: next week, Braves, Rays, Orioles, Twins, Red Sox, and we'll
- 32:44Speaker 1: have former camps the week after to finish this thing up.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Very very exciting for us to be able to visit
- 32:51Speaker 1: all of these teams and talk to these players. Thanks
- 32:53Speaker 1: to the Marlins for bringing great hosts today and thanks
- 32:56Speaker 1: to Fastenall. Here's a quick little look at what they
- 32:58Speaker 1: bring to the mix. We're in some home run specialties
- 33:07Speaker 1: right now for bet MGM futures. So let's do most
- 33:10Speaker 1: regular season dangers, and we're doing the Pete Alonzo versus
- 33:14Speaker 1: Juan Soto special. It's close to even money here. Pete
- 33:17Speaker 1: minus one fifteen, Sodo minus one ten. Who do you
- 33:21Speaker 1: have in this matchup?
- 33:22Speaker 5: Krats?
- 33:23Speaker 2: Pete, Jan Soda is going to try to go forty forty.
- 33:28Speaker 2: If you were talking about stolen bases, okay, maybe I
- 33:31Speaker 2: would say Jan Soda. Pete's going to Baltimore. Pete is
- 33:35Speaker 2: not just he's like people are being like, oh, he's motivated,
- 33:39Speaker 2: new contract, all this stuff. To me, I don't think
- 33:41Speaker 2: that's what it's about. I think this dude is just
- 33:44Speaker 2: a He is a locked in, guaranteed thirty five plus
- 33:48Speaker 2: home runs and Juan Soto could be in the MVP category. Again,
- 33:52Speaker 2: I get that, but you were talking about just home
- 33:54Speaker 2: runs Pete. I'll take it at minus one.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Fifteen, Okay, I'll give you context from last year Pete
- 34:01Speaker 1: hit thirty eight and that was in a full season
- 34:05Speaker 1: of AB's for Sodo. Same thing, full season forty three.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Pete moves to Baltimore. That should help, right, Easier to
- 34:14Speaker 1: hit homers there than in Queens.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Pretty similar, Yes, okay, sure, sure, I would say it's
- 34:21Speaker 2: better camping yards. They move the fences in a little
- 34:23Speaker 2: bit and left to me, Pete can hit him out
- 34:26Speaker 2: of Yosemite National Park, not just Camden Yards or city Field, Like, yes,
- 34:33Speaker 2: is it gonna help him? Yes? To me, I love
- 34:36Speaker 2: I love the fact that he's getting planted raid into
- 34:39Speaker 2: a lineup that has experience around each other. Juan Soto
- 34:43Speaker 2: has good players around him, but they don't know all
- 34:46Speaker 2: how to hit together. Yet they don't know what it's
- 34:49Speaker 2: gonna look like. When Wan takes that nasty three to
- 34:52Speaker 2: two pitch in a dirt and goes ball four. I
- 34:54Speaker 2: think there's gonna be too many, too many walks for
- 34:57Speaker 2: Pete to for Wan to take Pete. But you know what,
- 35:03Speaker 2: if Wan's listening to this and he's like, all right,
- 35:06Speaker 2: I'll just go hit fifty home runs. If he came
- 35:08Speaker 2: on tomorrow and said I'm gonna hit fifty home runs,
- 35:11Speaker 2: I would be like, all right, I'll switch it. Because
- 35:13Speaker 2: Wan Soto can do what he wants to do. If
- 35:15Speaker 2: he wants to hit more homers, he'll do it.
- 35:18Speaker 5: Yep, good call.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Hey, bet MGM players will receive in any sport parlay
- 35:22Speaker 1: Boost token this year. To use the parlay boost token
- 35:26Speaker 1: right now. If it's in your well bet MGM account,

- 35:31Speaker 1: to your bet slip and that includes World Baseball Classic
- 35:33Speaker 1: coming up in a couple of days. Activate the token.
- 35:35Speaker 1: If you win your wager with that token, you get
- 35:37Speaker 1: extra winnings. Gambling problem or concerned, there's help called one
- 35:41Speaker 1: eight hundred gambler. Okay, people, let's slap and also reminding
- 35:57Speaker 1: everyone that Hot Sheet now airs on Tuesdays three o'clock
- 36:01Speaker 1: East Coast time on the Baseball America YouTube channel. They're
- 36:04Speaker 1: going to go over some of the top prospects that
- 36:07Speaker 1: you need to know in the World Baseball Classic.
- 36:10Speaker 5: I'm excited for that.
- 36:10Speaker 1: We'll also get their take on the Spring Breakout announcement
- 36:13Speaker 1: that it'll be a tournament format coming up next year.
- 36:17Speaker 1: In the year after that, JJ Cooper and the group
- 36:20Speaker 1: from Baseball America they do prospects better than anybody else
- 36:24Speaker 1: thanks to the Marlins, by the way, the pr the players,
- 36:28Speaker 1: the coaches, the whole deal. AJ, they were fantastic out there,
- 36:31Speaker 1: so give them our love in Jupiter and your two
- 36:35Speaker 1: day stop in the same facility comes to a close.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Port Saint Lucy next up than the Palm Beaches, so
- 36:42Speaker 1: Mets Camp, then Nationals Camp, then Astro's Camp to round
- 36:45Speaker 1: out the week.
- 36:46Speaker 5: AJ. You having fun in your home state.
- 36:50Speaker 3: I am.
- 36:50Speaker 4: I'm going to name drop just for Krats because he
- 36:53Speaker 4: loves it. But I'm super happy about the ten am
- 36:56Speaker 4: arrival today by the Marlins. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 36:59Speaker 4: I don't think the Marlins. It allowed me to go
- 37:01Speaker 4: have breakfast with some guy named Michael. I don't know
- 37:04Speaker 4: if you guys know who Michael is, but not Michael Beer.
- 37:07Speaker 4: He's been winning NASCAR races, so it was nice. It
- 37:09Speaker 4: was a nice morning to get up there and see
- 37:11Speaker 4: some buddies. And now I get to go to Fort
- 37:13Speaker 4: Saint Lucy tomorrow and the Marlins.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Thank you. You were amazing.
- 37:16Speaker 5: You had breakfast with Michael Jordan.
- 37:19Speaker 2: I'm not gonna name drops as Kawas said, Michael Jordan says,
- 37:23Speaker 2: play hard, Jordan, you better have picked up the bill.
