Your dad's a mob boss. Please don't have me whacked. I was just kidding around. We were all having fun, wasn't it fun? Ma ha oh fun, It's so fun. Hah. There is no mafia Columba stay is better than Christmas. Four Finger Discount Dude. Welcome to four Finger Discount, the podcast where we always give each other flowers every single week of the year. This week we're hit to review the first episode of season eighteen of The Simpsons. It is episode h A B F one five. Is z Amuk the chef, the wife and her Homer, I am Dando and I am Guy aka Urban Smooth. Yeah, where'd you come up with that one? Who knows? Yep, we're back baby for what season eighteen of The Simpsons. You know, we hit a little bit of a minor pothole rough patch with season seventeen, but I can guess, only guess that season eighteen there is going to be onwards and upwards and just you know, smooth times ahead. Nothing but good time. Baby. Although I'm gonna take this episode, actually it's not off feel bad start. This was a perfectly fine episode of The Simpsons. What do you think? Dand I really thought this is a really fun guest star heavy premiere episode for a season. I remember we did Beyond Blunderdome, which is the first episode you ever reviewed, actually, which has Mel Gibson right. I thought this was not on that level quite, but I thought it was just it's similar in a sense that it played to the guest star's strengths. It wasn't a hey, look it's that person kind of appearance. It was them playing characters that related to them, so like they were playing mobsters, but they weren't actually themselves, you know, so I thought they really fit into the Springfield universe really really well, that's a really asteward point down because I mean, yeah, you're right. I mean often you'll get stunt casting on guest, Hey it's Britney Spears or something like that, and they have bart all this, they go, hey, it's so and so, you know, or you get an actual actor or performer playing a character and they're not necessarily sort of saying hi, everybody, it's Oscar nominated actor Edward Norton or something like that. Edward Norton seems to be my go to for some reason. You loved that Edward Norton appere at the Triple Threat. I just like, that's really the only thing I remember about it, ah, Bed, But you're right, this, yeah, walked a very fine line between Okay, these are all and I don't want to disparage the talents of these fine actors, but these are mostly monster actors. Well particular I mean Michael and Peioli, Joe Pantaliano, and Joe Montanier. I mean, well, it's that mean. Joe montana is of course well known as Bets Fat Tony, but he was in Godfather Part three. Michael and Perioli is of course Christopher Malti Santi from the from Sopranos and Joe Pantaliano has played hidden more, more mooks and other assorted mob types than we would get him mentioned because he had a guest appearance on The Sopranos as well, So yeah, he's the ignorance is blissed guy from Matrix as well. Of course he is Cipher who just enjoys a really juicy steak. Plus he and Joe were both the villains in Baby's Day Out. Oh my gosh, we just need to get that big guy. Yeah, the goofball. But I loved him in Sopranos. I thought he was such a weasel, but like so such a horrible, horrible, horrible human being, where like it wasn't like a big, strong, tough guy. It was just a piece of shit. Like I can't remember really hating anyone as much as I hated his character. And Sopranos, you just felt made you feel sick to your stomach. This is this is true to the best of my understanding. But I don't want to sort of jump on something because we're going to be talking about things in the mail bag a little bit later on, so I can't tuned, Yes, but now really really good casting. But also, as I tend to say about episodes that I enjoy, they've got a strong foundation in their story, or they're lifting from something that's got a really rock solid foundation, in this case the Godfather, but also you know, a whole bunch of mob stories and you know, the whole Father something. It's strained credibility a little bit, or sort of strang the browns of credibility a little bit, because you know, Michael has been at school this whole time, and now we're just learning who his father is, and now everyone's learning who his father isn't But you know, I guess you want to tell a story, that's the way you go about it. I can sort of buy into it in a sense that fat Tony maybe wouldn't want people to know who we sun it so he wouldn't get used as like a kidnapping for like a bargaining chip kind of thing, or you know, they have a ransom one his son, or potentially why wouldn't be got to speak for elementary feel like to be getting homeschool at least right anyway, it's some you know, really ritzy boarding school or something like that. And you know, with a single line, they could have said, let creepy Michael. He's just transferred from that fancy boarding school. But he doesn't talk to anybody with a new kid, Yeah, the new kid in school. Yeah, and nobody sort of knows what he's about just yet. So hey, Simpson's HQ. Hi, your buddy's a down to one guy to fill in any potholes you could have potentially had, you know, for example, he was the schools didn't want him because they didn't want to be under the thumb of fat Tony in some way. Yeah, and skinners so inept at running to school, and so I broke the cool system is so broken that it's kind of like, well, for a very generous donation from that done, they've decided to let Michael come to the school. Oh my god, we just solved the problem that was this episode of a four fingered discount. Come back next week. I thought you were going to be disappointed, not annoyed, by the fact that Homer and Bart were just all of a sudden running the maffia, running the mob. It's like that seems unrealistic to me. But saying that, I thought all their scenes were so funny. We're not running the mob. They're like, that's like essentially my favorite moments was just then running the Mob. I thought we'll get to those in the moments. But I thought it was just really, really well handled. I thought it was so good it wasn't. Yeah, I mean, and they wrapped it up with a nice little bow at the end where it's like, Okay, Michael doesn't want to be a doesn't want to be involved in quote unquote waste management. He'd rather cool. But okay, yeah, now this kid's got going nowhere, but you you show promise and it's like, yeah, I could see but becoming a mid level, mid level executively and the cosin Nostra somewhere down the line. Just a shame fact Tony didn't remember the fact that he used to make him the martinis back in the day. Button murder Archle. Yeah, we're in. We're in the season eighteen as well, and truly out the window. Who is just you know, tune in for twenty five minutes and enjoy Springfield's favorite family. That's exactly right. But I also wanted to touch on the fact that, you know, sometimes I get guest stars in they can somewhat feel a bit dates it or whatever. But I thought, particularly now, because it takes nine months to make an episode, right, but I thought this episode here, the having cast, having the cast of the Sopranos or two members from Sopranos on this episode was so timely in the sense that Sopranos was still one of the biggest shows on television at the time. So you can imagine this being so heavily promoted and people would have tuned in for it because everyone, I think feel like everyone just loved The Sopranos right, like it just I wasn't allowed to watch it. I was too young, but I remember my mum she was like every Monday night watching The Sopranos. I don't think it reached that stage or it's kind of like, oh, that's still on listens to the show. No. I have my certain go toos for Bob Culture and Edward Norton's Star. And when I talk about long running shows, tends to be the Blacklist, Like the Blacklist, they're still on, you know, it's just wrapped up after the ten or eleven seasons or whatever. But something like The Soprano has never really hit that spot. It was like it almost as a sign. Feld was like, no, we're going out on our terms, will go out on top, you know, even though it went for much like Breaking Back seven years yeah, it was six seasons. Yeah, Breaking Bad. It's like, you know, he always had the story and he's like this is it and that, and you can just imagine they would have said, just give us, what, just one more season. He's just like, no, I'm done. Yeah, yeah, and I'm glad they didn't. Instead, we'll give you five seasons a better call sor, which is also good. It was the ten year anniversary of them. What's the episode called the one of the great episodes of the TV of all time where he where spoiled all it? If you haven't watched Breaking Bad where someone so gets shot that episode, let's not spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen it, because I meant, I can imagine it'd be really, really devastating. But you know, you know that episode in the desert, the one I mean as what's it called dat? Yes, that episode is a ten year anniversary this week of that airing. I still remember watching that for the first time and just being like, what am I watching here like that was just like you felt like you're watching a movie. Yeah, I mean breaking there never really sort of felt like I was running out of running out of petrol, running out of fuel or anything like that. No, not at all, not at all. Occasionally felt like I was hardly, but it never felt like, oh, you're spinning your wheels here, buddy. It's like and then you know, it hits the final stretch and just room. Yeah, it's a pretty labored car metaphor and used there, but you know what I mean. We also had a Metallica appearance here, which I thought it was odd, but it was fitting that as they had Otto involved in it. At least I thought. The opening though, just felt like it. I don't know, it was just a weird opening to the episode. It was just like we had these first five minutes of the episode just so we can cram in a Metallica appearance. And I know, because to me, it's like, so I'd always been fired. You can't find anyone else to drive the school bus because but I didn't destroy the school bus, did he? He hit a moose, but it was the bus destroyed, So like, why couldn't so why all of a sudden. Was it parents driving the kids to school and not someone just driving the bus? Yeah, I mean again, let's fix the episode. Let's have it so you know, Bart's driving the bus and doesn't destroy it, but he puts it like breaks an axle or something. You know, I hit it moves. Oh the axle's broken. This bus is out of going to be out of commission for a little while. As I mentioned earlier, the school system is broke. We can't we can't afford a new bus all the time. We can't afford a whole new bus. We'll have to get this one fixed. Parents are gonna have to call ball for like two weeks, you know, until we get the bus repaired. Sorted, sorted, Yes, yeah. I also thought it added their own element of humanity to the character of fat Tony, because you know, it didn't ruin his tough guy persona. But it still it showed you the father, you know that the family side, the family man. You know, he goes to visit his wife's grave every single week. He brings her flowers. He's a really good father to his son, even though he wants his son to follow in the family business. I can believe that you know, if you're in that life, in that in that that the mob life, which I thought the episode did a really fun look at it, So not not taking a piece out of the mob, but just you know, the expectation there that we've discussed recently, how with Australian was football. There's an expectation that the Sun would follow in the footsteps of his father and become a footballer as well. Where you know, you can imagine in the Mob your son is like the future of the business. You're going to be taken over the throne. That's what The Godfather's all about, essentially. And I just thought that they did a really good job that I have shown the softer side of fact Tony here without ruining that tough guy persona. It was really good, wasn't And I mean I think it speaks volumes about Joe Montagne's skill as an actor. I mean, he's able to be quite threatening. I mean we've seen him outside you know The Simpsons in roles where he's you know, kind of dangerous, kind of a loose cannon. But I think there's also just generally an underlying warmth in the guy. Yeah, and yeah, that came to the fall here. I mean it was it was. It was a good performance and a good storyline. They complimented each other very well. I thought, I thought it was interesting this epis so it's also banned in Singapore. You cannot stream it on Distey Plus in Singapore. I'm just want to work out what would be the reason for that. Just the mafiar asks, what's what's the reason? Listened to Metallica songs, What's what's the thing? I don't know. Maybe that's something to do with spanking, But then Singapore there's King's people tend to the Yeah, what wasn't vicious enough? But the title, by the way, every episode of four Finger dis game going forward, I want you to explain what the title is a reference too? So what is it, mister Davis? Oh right, ho? Well, actually, yeah, this is right in my wheelhouse because the Muck, the Chef, the Wife and her Homer is a riff on the Cook, the Thief, His Wife and her Lover and nineteen eighty nine film by British filmmaker Peter Greenaway. Now around eighty nine, I was virgin. I'm twenty years old. Dando was what eighty nine? I was? What did it come out because I turned one in September eighty nine. You were not the target audience with this. I had not ticked over to one, but you know, budding art movie snob that I was like the leaderst Peter Greenway. People who know the The Late Great Australian sketch comedy show, The Late Show will know that they frequently took the piss out of Peter Greenaway as someone who, oh, I think I might have a glass of shout of there and watch the new Peter green Away. This this is not called towards Peter green who's who's a legit artist. He's really solid and this is one of the closest things he came to sort of like the mainstream and considering it's about a really vulgar, violent mobster and his wife who frequent this very fancy restaurant in a bid to sort of, you know, sophisticate themselves a little bit more and things just go horribly wrong and involving cannibalism, et cetera. Spoiler. Yeah, it's amazing that this was kind of the viewed as the one is like, oh, Peter making a shot the multiplex anyway, but that's what is based on the cook, the Thief, his wife and her lover, starring in early roles Michael Gambon aka Dumbledore and Helen Mirren aka that hot old English lady. Hey, my favorite. What were your favorite moments from the muck, the chef, the wife and her homer, mister Davis. Everybody knows that I'm a big Godfather fan, and this had two really nice sort of nods and tributes to it. One was quite blatant, which is at the end, which is an echo of the terrific final scene in the First Godfather where Michael Corleone is saying, Okay, don't never ask me about my business, and then they have the lovely shot of him being annoyed the New Godfather and the door closing on Ka's wife. I think they did. They messed it up a little bit. I mean, I liked a little bit after room where they're playing with their toy cars and stuff. But then it's like, okay, you should have ended on the first one, but then they closed the door in here one. Did you just have like thirty minty you need to fill or thirty seconds you need the film because you know you could have just done done it with the first one. Anyway, I still like that bit. I like this, But the more subtle bit that I enjoyed was when you first see Michael Young Michael son of that Tony walking through the school halls. They're sort of paying They're using a bit of the Godfather music. It's not the traditional yeah, it's not the theme, yeah, no no, but it's more sort of the low key, minor key piano music that usually indicates that, oh, Michael's in danger or Michael's about to put someone in danger. So I thought that was that was pretty cool. Know, my intro to The Godfather music was the god Michaels. I hadn't seen the film when I was a kid. My introduction to The Godfather music was guns n' Roses Slash used to play it at the use of your allusions to it in the in the early nineties. Used to play it live and the guitar fucking unbelievable. That would be rad. Oh God, that does sound. I thought you were gonna say your introduction to it was Krusty or Homers hitting the hitting. The Champaguelards do also good. Yes, And one funny bit that I've just done was so Dante Junior. I keep forgetting the name of the various Dante and j Yeah, it gets called a hybrid. Wow, where'd that come from? Wow? That that's that's legs legs and sorry, what's what's I was the other guy's Oh God, that's gonna bother me. Now I got to look up his name. The other say Silvio, No, no, no, no, it's it's something like, it's not that Mafia Springfield, Simpsons, what is it? Let me have a look. All right, so we've got here, Oh god, legs is the other guy members? Here we go looking on here on Simpson's WICKI god, damn adds Legs Louie Louie Louie's Yeah, where'd that come from? I just love when people get aggrieved by inslots like that. Whow we that come? What were your favorite moments? Dando? I really enjoyed local man thinks wrestling is real the newspaper headline I've written down here. What are dandos thoughts on this headline? Yeah? I just love that locals. Now. I've mentioned earlier about the Homer and Bart running the MA few moments, so the first one the fight scene between Homer and Mo where Homers going there to get the fifty. Then Modus turns on him and says, I need the money, so he gives him the money, and then he only gives him a twenty five back all guys, twenty five even though Homer just gave him fifty dollars. I just perfect. That was good. Everybody knows that we don't just talk about the Simpsons here at Fourth Finger Discount Network. We also talk about seinfeld Fu drama King of the Hill, but also South Park. And we recently recorded an episode of Going Down to South Park with a came and felt pray to a similar ruse when he tried to get some money out of his arch nemesis Scott Teneman. So yeah, you've just I've never told him which episode it was yet they know. Now let's let's plug it. So basically what we're gonna be doing every month now, guys, a little bit of exciting news to a four figure discount. As guy was just saying, we did for Going Down to South Park a review of Scott Tenneman Must Diet. Now we're only up to season three with the actual podcast, but every month now for our podcast, we're going to be doing skip ahead reviews, so we're going to be doing as it is Scot tenam must divee for South Park. These will be available on our Patreon to skip ahead. So if you want to hear those reviews now of the classic episodes, you can subscribe to the channel on Patreon and support the show, or you're just wait until we eventually catch up to that in the free feed and we'll just slop those ones in there then. But we're going to be doing four the fourth figure discount our review. We're gonna be doing Marge Versus the mono Rail. We're gonna be skipping ahead and we'll skipping back and doing that classic episode because Guy I wasn't here for the first ten seasons, so you're going to be hearing Guy's review of Marge versus the Monorail, which I cannot wait to do. Nicolo and I we did the one with Ross's Weddings parts one and two, which would be avilable on our Patreon as well for the one of our friends listeners out there our Friends podcasts and also Go and I will discuss and we thought we might do the Souper Nazi for Talking Seinfeld as well. Now we have not seen King of the Hill before, so we're not going to do Skipperheads for King of the Hill because we don't want to spoil any for ourselves. The whole charm of that podcast is that we're watching the show for the first time, so we don't want to spoil anything, so we don't do skip Ourheads for that one. But yeah, we're going to do the Supernaci for Seinfeld, Scott Tender Must Die for South Park, marjor is the monor Way for the Simpsons, and Nicola and I did the one with Ross's Wedding parts one and part two, so two podcasts skiven ahead there, So exciting times. You're at four finger discamps. Also, the other exciting news here is we're no longer going to be doing our zoom calls. We are going to be doing monthly watch along So rather than just chatting to the patrons, we're gonna be doing watch alongs Guy and I and the patrons gets to decide which episode we watch and I can watch along with us and comment. So we're going to be doing either Home of the Great or Home of the Smithers. So the patrons are currently voting on that on our pole and our Facebook group. If you enjoy the show now, you've got seventeen seasons worth of content here. If you've enjoyed everything we've done so far, please support the show on Patreon. You find a link for that in description of this podcast. But you was just saying about Cartman getting swindled by Scott Tenneman, which was hilarious. It was indeed. I'm sorry I jumped ahead. I couldn't contem my excitement anymore. That we're doing skipperheads and rewinds and jump it all over the shop. I'm like house of pain. I just love to jump around. So yeah, a similar scam to what was pulled here between Homer and mo. I do love a good grift, a good sort of all right, you give me ten wait a minute, hanging, I got to I got two two. See give me that and you can give me the five back, and somehow you end up with all the money and the other person's ends up absolutely scammed. It's great. I also enjoy this is a gag. You could only do an a cartoon both the next moments actually really but it's the fell off a truck, the truck rocks up trucks. A fell off a truck truck, it's like that, but rocks up with the truck with trucks on it. It's just like I thought that visual gag just was great. And also the every time they look back at Homer and Artminel laughing they had a different weapon and it's got worse and worse and worse with the point Hope had like a buzuka. That's something. Rule of threes. Yeah, I thought, yeah, both of those things. There's very very spot on. Yeah, really good. Next question you there eating the past. All right, mister Davis, is time now for the trivia. As I said, my first question for you is when Otto was clearly on drugs, there was a dragon there saying, you know, we can't what his name was, but he's going to a gum drop parade. Where was he going to? I was also going to ask you that question, and the answer is fu fou island ffoo island. Correct? All right, what's your next question? Then? Well this is also Otto related. When Otto saw Metallica, which row was in and which seat was he in? Oh? Good question, no idea? I wrote, what is it three? He was in row x X exact? Believe he's just twenty in the Romans and see sixty four or is it yea swinging the Romans? But I feel like we've with concerts. It's like abc D e FG, it goes all the way through and then it goes that to me, seems like he was in the one of his married last rose. I don't go to that many concerts. They preferring to leave theirs. What's the name of fat Tony's deceased wife? It's Anna Maria and Maria indeed, yes, next March Wisher, she was dead as well. A sad line. Indeed, name the three ingredients in the salad that Michael made for Lisa. Uh, there's some sort of berry, a bean, I don't know what we're again. In the four in grades they were dandelion greens, touch a wild dill, and BlackBerry juice. BlackBerry juice, all right, And I just realized I haven't got any more questions. I'll make one up here. Which grade did Otto and Kearney share at school? Oh? Tenth third grade? Tenth grade would be in high school? Kind of tenth grade in primary school? Am I talking? Because he's he's on the bust and he was like, what are you still doing here? We were in third grade together. He was like, this school doesn't teach me very well. And any more questions for me? I do. Indeed, I'll give you one more. How many enemies would be served by the meat ball recipe that Michael uses at the end? Oh? Was it six to eight? It was six to ten? Six to ten? Alrighty. The original air date was September tenth, two thousand and six. The Sopranos end in two thousand and seven, so there would have been I guess in their second to last season or maybe just started the first two knows. It was written by Bill Odenkirk and directed by Michael markin twell Are. The episode the Catch gag was it? The catch is replaced by four wooden chairs. It was musical chairs, and Homer misses out no chalk gig for this episode. So the episode kicks off with but you won't give up your seat? Just being rude to Lisa on the school bus, just not being rude for the second being rude. I do evil skateboard. Yeah yeah, I don't won't help her at all. She's listening to be listening to him. It's Grand Funk railroad tape. She accidentally ruins it. I can you remember back in the day when like VHS, for example, we'll get jammed in the video playe and you're like, oh no, it's like you knew it was going to be a massacre, but like you'd you'd open up the top of the VCA, please don't be too tangled, and you look at you look at it. It's a slow like over the place. You're like, oh, there goes my copy of the Christmas Carol. And keep Halloween off TV. Yeah, it's got all the commercials. I wanted to just I wanted to keep the commercials. I love going back on YouTube and just watching people who have just putting up like TV shows or just like it's sort of in the movie. It's like these were the ads that were playing during the screening of the of Halloween from nineteen eighty seven. You know, it's like it's like a time capsule, isn't it. You feel like it's fantastic. You want to get like the movie and it's slot the ad breaks in it and there's watch it like that. It takes you back to that time. Don't you think I reconcile? I mean no, I'm a big fan of when they do that on YouTube. And look, I'll probably watch that more often than I'll watch say Netflix will stand yes, bring back commercials, bring back ads? What was this funny thing? Because Nick and I have been watching have you been paying Attention? Right? But our foxtail we'll canceled Fox stoles, so we have to watch it through the app now channel ten. The problem is when you watch things through the app for the commercial stations, you have to watch the ads as well. You can't fast forward them, right. So I'm watching the ads and I'm like, what happened to commercial They used to be fun like now it's almost like promoting reality shows. And I know there was some ad and I was like, what the how did they have to do with that business? It was as amphole that the petrol like the stations. I was like, it's like bringing it better tomorrow for the kids at the future. I was like, what the fuck is what? Oh, no, we're all worried about climate change. But yeah, like where's sick and Rex and the Yogo gorilla A man of mind putting this out the other day. It's like, when you think of chocolate, you didn't really think what a sweet treat? How delightful ads where it's like, yeah, Cambri's doing these ads where it's like, gee, dad, I hope you got the job. I left a little good luck thing in the glove compartment in a car. Think so it's a block of chocolate, or you know, some young uni wage slavers work in the night shift at the servo and the dad buys are a block of Cabrie. Love your dad. You're not selling prozac, you're selling chocolate. Just just put wouldn't it be nice? On again? They were the best commotions of all time, right, wouldn't it be nice? And then yeah, the first thing, yep, you think of the beach boys, and then you think of Cadbury. Yes, every time you hear that song. Now you can't sing the actual version, You have to sing the Cabrie version, right, wouldn't it be nice if it was ca? Yeah? Of course. Yeah. That was a great campaign, a great campaign. It was indeed bad way the kid that Oh yeah, the tape, the tapes of the vhs somehow either commercials and then yes, but the tape has been ruined. And Otto's sad now because his nature it's the ultimate bring down the kids. Trying to help by singing songs, by including the word fart into everywhere. Yeah, that's not a song, real songs. You're about deals with the devil, far of lands? Were you playing smoke and religion to water? This is Alliott all the way. He just goes, you know, the wheels on the fart, go fart, fart far That's exactly what he would say. So he has discovered the word fart or oh yes, we're trying to say toot, but he says fust. Yes, what was your word for fart when you were a kid? Because I thought what I was we popped off? Yeah, what is the international word for fart? Look, what's what's the what's what did us children say fart? Do they say too? We say pop off here in Australia, What do you say in the UK? Like I want to know, let us running guys, Simpsons, mail Bagg at gmail dot com. What was your word for fart when you were growing up? Because I had pop off and two? But what were you going to say? Guy? Yes, the global community for figured this game. Please let us know the international vocabulary of fart exactly. That's funny because I don't know if it's still schlang among the kids, but there would be a stage where if it was, you know, really happening at the clubs, it's popping off at the club and like people are fighting at the club, we say going off. It's going off, mate, it's going off, going off, going off like a frog in a sock. Mate. Yeah, but this stuck. But Ottos says here that you know, music is all about deers, the devil far off lands, and you find smoking relation to water and Kearney's there. I think Kearney's got Martin's instrument of some kind struggle with the shirt he purloined. He Courney perloined Martin's French horn. French horn, Yes, and Otto says, what are you still doing here with great together as school us and teach me very well? So then he tries to radio and he guess disco easy listening in country World Urban Smooth was it meant to be a joke at the expense of people who are just liking to like metal. It's like they can't do anything else. It's like it's like metal. So you know, well, I mean, I think I know a few metal fans and they tend to listen to exclusively metal. It's like easy listening to sign me up? You know, who doesn't like a bit of easy listening? Four figure discat in your ears? Easy listening? Absolutely. I actually have an idea for a sitcom called easy Listening about like a an AM radio station or an FM radio station but sort of struggling to maintain its relevance in the age of Spotify and streaming and podcasts and all that kind of stuff. You know, it's got this and it's got a crew of you know, sort of Generation X DJs who are hey, listening to three whatever it is and that was the Dewe Brothers, And you know, then they get this young whipper snapper in his eye. We've got to freshen up this station anyway, that's all. I've got. The bunch of people being angry at the cloud at the clouds, it's a bunch of It's a bunch of old people saying I don't understand the present and the person's sake. You people suck. So Netflix, if you're if you're listening, give me a goal. I love. That's a little ring. It's a show about nothing. That's guy's pitch. That's all I got. That's all we need said, that's nothing. I've also got to think about a circus? What is that ahacross? But the so he says, metallic He on the side of the right of mine. Drugs me get the little thing with the dragon hire, where's up Metallica? He lived? We don't take rides from strangers. I'm no strangers, remember this, But daddy got rouss. Oh yeah, Springfield Arena ninety seven, row x X sixty four. I was about to quit the band when I saw your lighter save me that night. So what are you waiting for? Hopping? Hopping? What look at me? I'm otto I'm one hundred years old and I drive a school bus. Oh man, maybe me and Metallica could go splits. He's in a cab. Hey loser, We got a right from a real fan. Hey used to sleep with Liars's grandmother. Never listen to our music again. They're they'd arrive at the school and uh and Otto's they're waiting for them already. I like, how did he beat them? There doesn't matter? And then he starts spanking bar Like watching this in twenty twenty three, I was like, man, you'd be in so much trouble if you did this. Can you match them? A guy spake so when I was a child, Now, oh god, yeah, that's just the bus. I'd just spaked a child. I'm trying to recall if uh, you know, I never had like a bus driver or anyone sort of lay hands on me. And this was back in the days of when corporal punishment was like the thing. But I think I don't think bus drivers ever had that authority, But god, yeah, I certainly had some that would just ark out because you know, I mean, imagine being at the front of a bus. You're trying to maneuver this big, unwieldy piece of bloody moving machinery, and you've just got a bunch of kids sank far in the back or you know, sort of running around and being dickheads. You'd have to have like the patients of a zen Buddhist monk to try and to you know, sort of maintain calms through all that. I think I think Louis was saying the other day that, you know what, the bus drivers on one of her kids routes. I might have got the boot because he arked up like that. He was like, fucking kids, just fucking shut up, Chris Farley on them from Billy Madison. Probably he's like he ain't drive a mill bus no more. But this is the thing. It's like, it's stressful enough driving around the streets of Geelong with two kids saying why why do the clouds? Why are they white? Why does it rain well? Why why are there so many trees around here? It's just like, oh my gosh, the busting questions. It's like, before you have the chance to answer the first question, I've already asked you for more. Like I can't imagine driving a school bus, just not not for me at all. I remember sometimes the school buses would the drivers on the way home. There weren't necessarily school bus drivers. I would just bus drivers in Geelong, the school kids would catch the bus home and it's like the amount of ship that they have to put up with. And sometimes they'd arc up and you just go there's that real awkward situation where it's like they know they can't really do anything about it, but they ain't give it a fucking anymore. You know, you know when they start arking up that you've actually broken them because they know they can't do anything about it, but they just don't care. They's like, I have to get this off my chest. It's like shit's getting real. But now they've got the protective glass. At least they're protected now, true true, hopefully hopefully it's soundproof. Yes, but so they Otto gets temporarily suspended with pay, has to give back his beaded seat cover, and he's gune, I only get the hole with pay, Like what, Yeah? I mean maybe Otto is just so adull that he's like, oh no, yeah, I mean it doesn't realize that he's actually got a pretty sweet deal getting no work but pay. Oh sorry, I just want to rewind a little bit because I've made a note here and we've already moved on from this particular band. Sure, I'm thinking it takes some balls. If you're a metal band to call you Metallica, it's kind of like we're the most metal. Yeah, I guess so, but like it's genius in a sense as well though for marketing. From from a marketing perspective, I've probably the best metal band name of all time, right if you're playing metal. Absolutely, If they got up and they started doing like an acoustic set, there was no time for your particular brand of folk rock. Yes, it didn't take balls, but I think they backed it up. Oh yeah, absolutely. I mean I wasn't old enough. I wasn't old enough to sort of remember Metallica in their prime, but I just remember, like when you thought of metal, you thought of Metallica. Where that beat you to the name? I don't know, but like they just seemed the most mainstream metal band that I could think of when I was a kid. They really did. Yeah. I'm not much of a metal head, but I mean, yeah, songs like one or Ando Sandman or stuff like that. It's like, should these guys going for it? But it seems to me like whenever people listen to it feels like now especially I mean, I'm not a metal head. But like when guys listen to a metallic car, it's almost like they've become what the triple M version of like a metal band. It's like they're not real metal of the commercial metal man. Haven't you guys heard Cannibal Corpse, Yeah, Denny Filth? Well, what was what was their band? Cradle of Filth? They Cradle of Filth. They're well, they they're extreme. They were more death metal when they That's the thing that's all sort of there's like all manners of sub metal genres. What's interesting death metal? Well, what's the difference is it's just the way they sing? What is it? You're asking entirely the wrong verse? Yes, yeah, exactly right. I know. It's something that I just when I used to work with the street paper Forte back in the day. I used to when we would deliver it every fortnight hour, me and this other guy who ran like a small record shop in Geelong. These were good times, man. But you know, at the end, at the end of the delivery, we usually go back to his shop, split a j and he put some music on and I made my way home. But it's like he had a lot of metal albums in there. That's kind of way. It just seems like a cool subculture to be part of it, even if I don't necessarily want to be part of It's like you've got your tribe, You've got your your people who will speak the same language. I don't know. I kind of dig that. Yeah, And then they released a song that becomes mainstream success and like they're not part of the group anymore. It's like you're want of them now? How dare you succeed in what you were trying to do? Excuse me into seeing man, that's rather late weight metal as most a heavy metal help your happy bar thanks to your high jinks. I have to drive you and your friends to school. Let me drive. I go through yellow lights? One more crack out of you, young man, and i'd showing everyone you have baby pictures. Are you would drive through the yellow lights kind of guy? Or a slow down as you're approaching yellow light kind of guy? I used to be slowing down, but Nicholas now turned me into a going straight through because she used to make me feel less like a man when I would slow down. She say, you could have made that, and I'm like, I know I could have, but you shouldn't. She's like, why they're still yell I'm like, oh, leave me a leven. We're just winning over the ladies life with this. Kendis hear me. I'm the opposite, actually, I mean lou is very much. That just yellow and I'm like this close to the lines, nap stopping and I'm like I should have gone through that. I would have gone right through that. And I don't know, maybe it's too good influence, but I'm doing it less and less. It's very much a case by case basis, and it's like you've got your distance and it's like, can I make this, gonna make this, gonna make this two later already Throwle's a thrill the chase. It's just like will I won't tie? Will I won't tie? And it's like when you've driven around here enough, you know when there's going to be red light camera. So it's like there's no bed light camera, gold for it's absolutely next thing. You know, you're de boned exactly right, Yeah, but yeah, so Bart says, you know, let me drive through, God, drive through the other lights. March threatens to show everyone baby photos of him. Millhouse then has brought his own car seat with safety belts that matched Lisa's eyes, once again showing that she's got blue eyes. And they pick up Nelson, who is doing finished off science experiment about squirrels not liking rocks. Then they pick up Michael, and Sherry and Terry Gress then get picked up, but they make fun of Michael. They say, you know, he's that weird guy and he sits on Nelson's shadow, so he's clearly the kid that everyone bullies. No one's aware yet. Now he's the son of Fat Tony, but he's forgot his math books, so they drive up to his house to get it, and as Nelson says, here man, you mumus say the nicest strip I must work at the nicest strip club in town. And it's revealed here that Fat Tony is, in fact he's dad. Nelson immediately panics and just tries to talk his way out of it, like says things like Columbus Day is better than Christmas and things like that. Where you come back from commercial and the kids are now all afraid of Michael. And this is the moment you're talking about where he's walking through the hallway and we've got the music in the background. Yeah, Yeah, I love the Columbus Day gag because every time Columbus Day comes up in the States, you've invariably got a lot of people on social media saying Columbus was kind of an asshole, and yeah, fuck that guy, And then you've got a whole bunch of people taking that screenshot from them from the Sopranos Day. It's Eddie Italian discriminate one of it. It's what it is. This is basically the next few scenes, it's just everyone showing it. Then they're scared of the repercussions if they do make fun of Michael, so it really lays down in the puke so that Michael can step over, and mister Lago initially has it. Got to whoever that third clarinet was. I think it was as a clarinet, the clarinet and believe it was clarinet. It turns out Michael, So he runs away and panic says his first everything but last he can see that's bothering Michael, that everyone's now being nice to him and doesn't want to isn't having a real relationship with the kid. So she goes to sit with him at the cafeteria and they both bond over the fact that they're not like their fathers at all. This is where at least holds up the newspaper man thinks Lokomen thinks wrestling is real, and before had that one point in our lives where we thought pro wrestling was real. Speaking of wrestling, there's a there's this great clip going around at the moment of Bill Maher, the US talk show host Bill Maher. He's a strive at the moment because your girl, Drew Barrymore was initially going to cross the picket line and resume production of her talk show, which she seems to walk back back because everyone we hate you, Drew, and you're like, I can't take that. And then she she said, okay, I won, and everyone's like, oh, necessary, So you're not going to do it now. It's like, what what isn't pretty weak Drew exact from what do you want from her? Then? But anyway, continued, Yeah, I think Bill Maher is doing something similar. I'm not sure if he's yet walked back the his intentions to resume his show, but someone put up it's like this. Here's here's some great footage of the late Rowdy Roddy Piper making Bill Murray's bitch. It was a it was a conversation. There was one female wrestler, there was Rowdy Roddy, and look two others. Oh, I'm sure you would recognize and I'm sure very well known. My apologies for not knowing who they are. But Ma being the kind of quote unquote hell but he is, says something about, oh, yeah, but it's fake, right, you know, And and they're talking about how it's certainly stayed but within within the staging there's a lot of actual physical activity and sometimes a lot of injury, and basically Rowdy Roddy gets up and you know, he said, you know when someone breaks a chair over, I mean it's kind of a breakaway chair, isn't Reddy? He gets up, sort of drops his pants and shows like this huge bruise on his asking. That's that's from a fucking chair right there. And you know, Bill mart tries to sort of upstage and yeah, well you know, at least I'm not dropping my pants in in front of another man. Raddy Roddy just like that goes, well, how'd you get your job? Then that's awesome, and everyone's going you tried to take it to rowdy roddy pipe. But the man's a fucking professional entertainer as well as a top notch wrestler. I mean he does this kind of the microphone. Yeah, and you'll get a fucking step to rowdy roddy. You clown on. By the way, I looked it up, it was Medusa, the female wrestler who was next to him. Just don't show me your ass again. Listen, I backstage man. Yeah, you know I'm not in my pants in front of other man. We go ahead, well, how did you get the job? It's like that time when when Munch from Lauren Order Richard bows up basically said to Hulk Hogan, wrestling is fake on his talk show. So Hugan's like, let me just show you this sleeper. Then he puts him in this sleeper and it just completely just puts him to sleep. But the thing is, it's really bad though, because you watch it and Hogan's got him by the neck, puts in a sleep and just lets him go. He's forced on the floor. It's like, holy shit. It was a different time, my friend. But back then though, they was still trying to keep that that idea that wrestling was real. Everyone knew it was fake, but it's like he didn't speak openly about it. He brought into it, but so many people used to try and go, yeah, we all know it's fake, right, And if you said that to a wrestler, big shrife, they didn't like it. But anyway, so Lisa then fires triple A battery and her mac cheese because it counts a vegetable. But Mike says, no, I can cook you something, so there's no fresh ingredients in there. We get a really weird gag with the ghost from the World War two beans coming out. Anyway. Yeah, yeah, they go outside and get the ingredients. She spits out the bee and Nelson mocks past. It's good to see he's still you're laughing now, buddy. Nelson's trying to be his friend Lisa and says, you could make a really good chef, but unfortunately fat Tony wantsh to get him to the family business, which is our waste management quote unquote. The next day, fat Tony is the car pool. Everyone's getting arrived with him, and we get a few little gigs here. I really liked these. Sleep with the fishes were finding nemo bedspread. We also get a reference to shart Tail later in the episode as well, which is actually another take on The Godfather it is. Yeah, it's got to Martins. Skor says again Roma de Niro when it as well, and of course the biggest gangster of all Will Smith. The calorb Breezes then arrive. I love that name, the color Breezies. It's such a name from the Spranos. The calorb Breezes are here. Then the Sopranos steam actually playing at this time, and they're trying to take them out. Even spite of the fat they've got kids in the card, they're still trying to take him out. He asked Millhouse for his for his binder, says which one mc guffy one on my love is I think it is or something like that, and he said the garf. I've always liked the cat. He doesn't like Mondays, but very related to him that way. And then another comedy of threes as you get here, so they crashed into the baking soda and the crack vinegar and half it's not too bad and then taint Godlamo. Yeah. They then dropped Bart and Lisa off. Mom. I apologize for my dardliness. I ran into some old acquaintances. I'm not sure. First, that sounds perfectly pleasant, Papa, can Lisa and her family come over for dinner? We glove too. You know, I've never met your wife. Sadly, my ene Maria was wet by natural causes. Oh you're a widower. I bring flowers to her grave every Sunday. Flowers every week. I watched. I was then, what's the last time you bought the waist flowers? I bought Nicola flowers last week. That's just for a birthday. Just sometimes it's like, I get I don't understand the the idea of just buying flowers meaning a lot. I guess they look pretty and things, but like sometimes I just buying flowers for Nicola and just really cheers it up. I've never really understood the concept of buying flowers, but it always works, so that's why I do it. It's true, it's been a little while since I've done it. And one doesn't want to sound calculating, but you sort of want to, you know, do it for no reason. Everyone it's just like, oh, Nicola looks big down today, I was gonna get up some flowers and cheer her up. It's been a little while since I've done it, but it is a lovely, lovely gesture. They arrive at their house and Fat Tony says, you know you can afford a house like this when you don't pay for essentially anything land taxes, even even land. Their paintings have brush strokes and the statues have wieners. But then the Calabreezes during dinner have arrived for their sit down. He didn't realize it was this day. His palm pilots let him down again. And it's a bit hot Sinc. This is very, very funny, you know, shoots it. I thought, I thought you want to hot Sinc like this, like everything means killed. They say to Fat Tony, we met no disrespect. We're just trying to kill you. And that's what I was touching start of the podcast. How sort of the the insight into the mob life where it's like, you know, they do put hits out on people, but then like the week later they could be friends. It's like it's also it's like playing three D chess, isn't it being a mobster. It's like being friends at this guy but for the right reasons, and then playing this guy against that guy. I couldn't do it. It just seems so tiring, but you know, but it's interesting to watch. I think that's a reason Survivor has become such a continues to go on for this day because it's all about that, isn't it. I mean to somedegree without the without the organized crime aspect, but you know, you're forging alliances and oh, you stabbed me in the back. Brother was like that as well. Oh yeah, yeah, I remember the first seasons of Big Brother. I was right into Big Brother when I was a kid, and it was like I'd get like genuine into like genuine arguments with my parents about no, Reggie's a bitch because she says this, and I's like, no way, and I'm like, but we've known these people. We've only known that the twenty minutes of footage day shows every day of these people. It's completely orchestrated. Everything that we see on this show. Why why did we take us so seriously? I just don't understand. But the glory days of reality television. It feels like everything now on commercial TV is just a reality show. Though I was as I was saying, we're watching the commercials during have you been paying attention. It was just all reality shows. Yeah, I mean lu and I are killing him at a time last night before another show started, and we're sort of looking between channels and come across My Kitchen Rules on Channel seven. It's like, neither of us are into it. But I think they were the couple that was cooking that night, were sort of in the midst of making their rabbit and mashed potatoes and all that kind of stuff. And of course, you know, if they don't like this, it's missing the judice. What's going to get Oh, I don't know how I'll react. And we're like, okay, well, let's start recording the other shows. How you can see how they because we need to know, and you know, and of course they're playing you're like a fucking harp because you know, it's like, oh no, he took a glass of water, My rabbit must be dry. You know, people are sort of like taking mouths mm. Cut to an ad like shit, we're gonna wait till you know, we watch the bloody Ampole ad and you know, the depressing chocolate add and you get back and then you know, Mano goes the chicken was good. Should we say, oh, yeah, I feel so I love it for that person. Now they cook their good they could chicken well yes, but yeah reality TV. I enjoyed this though in the sense that it makes sense that fat Tony would use Michael as a as a threat. You know, if you take me out my son Michael, he's ready to go. He's gonna take over the business, even though he's like eight or whatever. But is he in Lisa He's in Lisa's Earth, I think, but it's not really I think so. Yeah, I mean he's kind of he's kind of styled to look like young Alpaccio in Your Guyfather as well, but sort of prior to Michael becoming the don he's here's a little bit floppy and you know, he's sort of a little bit make Yeah. So, I mean that's it's good. It was a good visual gang or good visual touch on the part of the on the part of the episode to do it that way. Michael brings into Flays and March says, whenever she tries to make that end up his brownie's parts, you said you were always trying to make brownies. Just fathered by this. But Lisa says, let's let's go show your dad so we are at peace once more. Let us indulge in exaggerated displays of affection. This guy, I love him. Get over here, my brother, over here, You're my everything over here. You'll color on my world over here, over here, over here, Papa, I write you some dessert. My god, this is like a lap dance for my taste buds. Yeah, the flavor just drove my sweet tooth to a vacant lot and whacked it. A kid would make red. Did your boost these from? Well? Actually I made them, Papa. I want to be a chef. A chef. Huh, Hey, look where we got here. It's chef boyar Gate. What's you gonna do if we rub you out? Serve our soup cold? Well, Spacho was served cold. So take that, hi, Dony, catch you later. Your kids got a bright future, cater and your funeral. I wasn't a feed of the chef boyar Gay. I mean, I get it. It's two thousand and six whatever, Bess like you watch it fifteen years later or so, it's like, oh, yeah, there's some of the stuff that we've already had. The the head slap on the part of Homer sort of slapping, but across the back of the head. Did you did you say that? I says, why can't you do anything? Yeah? But what what was your referencing? What was referencing when he said that? I think when Michael makes the soup fla, Oh, yes, that's right. Yeah, yeah, it's a brave cook. First of all, who tries to make a soup fla? They're notoriously tricky. But I think we really used to, you know, the choking gag, and that's almost become oh, that's so over the top that you know, you can't really take it seriously. But a cuff across the back of the head. I was like, well, it's different than I'm not sure. I like, I don't know, it's not, but you know, what are you gonna do? Serve our soup cold? And it's just like, well, you know, gaspacho is cold, so there, and it just felt like such a kid thing to say. It's like, I'm gonna get you, sir. Well, actually, there's a great gag. I think it's in it in Batman or Batman Returns where Alfred comes down to the to the bat Cave and you know, gives them gives Bruce Wayne this sort of bowl of soup and you know, Alfred, the soup's cold. The bullier bass sir, it's meant to be cold. And Batman, Jos, I can't remember that scene at all. Was the val Kimber Was George Clinty, That's why you were not it was Keaton? I think it was. It was Batman or Batman won the first two AKA okay, but Fat Tony is incredibly embarrassed here. Your kids got a bright future catering your funeral, and Lisa says, you know, don't worry, fat That's not what matters. What matters is how you feel inside. And then they shoot him through the window. And if you're watching this for the first time, you could have marketed this at the sense that fact Tony was dead because you think they've been shot through the window. But without the hospital and Fat Tony it's been revealed here that it'd be fine for three months. He just can't talk right or blink, and a calabreezes. They try putting up, putting him. They're going to try and put him now for a dirt nap if they find out that he's on that he's out of commission, and we get homes little vision here of having a dirt nap with his head in the dirt. Then Johnny Typelip says that you know you're gonna have to take your dad's spot, kid, you know, And I'm thinking, surely he had a two I see somewhere. Besides, do you think one of the adults, one of these three people admittedly their henchmen and probably not that bright, but still, yeah, there's gonna be somebody there wasn't not very well planned business strategy here, but Home offers the hem bart can run the business. He learned everything he needs no from sharktail, So we get that. The most scene about taking fifty dollars, but I thought was great. All right, chap Jacky, you are fed Tony fifty bucks. Cough it up. Look, mister, I don't got the cash. My client teller the raw bombs they never pay, dude, just get them money, Homer, the marble is putting a screws on me. See, I ain't getting killed because you won't pay your tab. They'll give me fifty bucks, which take you take it? Just don't hurt me. Okay, pretty boy, where's fair Tony's fifty bucks? Look? Or all I got is twenty five? I swear, I swear it'll tu fun now. And then we get the Krusty Burgers. Same with Bart of course, but is one did you go and approach Rusty and he wants his weekly payment to keep macas in Burger king out of town, But they end up punching him in. That does explain Rusty Burger sort of cornering the market. It does, at least, doesn't it. Yeah, then they punch him in the snow's punum, the pupic and the genetica zoonk or whatever. It's various. It's just a play on the as Krusty says the words, it's funny words. These were all actual Hebrew words, but Hebrews lang terms. But they're funny none the less. Howe then arrives in his big truck which fell off of a truck. And but arrives in his truck which fell off a big truck truck truck or whatever it was, which I thought was a really funny gag as well. Then they're playing cars in the garage and Helen loved Joy hasn't returned a casserole dish? Can you how can you go get it? You're holding a hand up, you know, this is two thousand and six, by the way, because they've got a shitload of plasma to plasma TVs. Yes, I did like that as well. How did like home my borne host? I got your phone bill in my mail by mistake, and I'll just pay it dad. Do you want I should plug him in the angle? Your monster just cut? Is Achilles tending with this snake? I know they're meant to be emphasizing how they sort of turned to the dark stop, but I'm like, that's pretty extreme and it reminds me of hostile and I don't want to think about that scene ever again in my life. I just want to pretend I never saw that scene. No Achilles tendant drama is the absolute words. It's like the it's like anything to do with your genitals and an Achilles tendant in my book, or eyes, anything that the eyes and Achilles tenders Like. I just can't imagine anyone doing anything to your eyes. I kind of a look in eyes when people like pull their skin down and say, look, is it's something in my eye? I can't actually do it. I hate eyes, Like, what's the one thing that you just can't bring yourself to do? Like, what do you like with blood and things like that, Like when it comes to the anatomy. I don't think I'm not too bad with Okay, I think the yeah Achilles tender is number one. Okay, fingernails as a as a real fucking fingernails. Yeah, yeah, I mean I'm hearing about, you know, sort of engine torture Teknaues where it's like we're gonna put some shoots under your fingernails or pull out your fingers. That happens. They my great uncles. They went in the World War two and they had their fingernails off in a concentration camp for torture. How crazy. I'm like, that's nuts, And I don't know, not at all. For example, when people get their fingers like the digits cut off of just like a pair of pliers. Oh, can you imagine the pain? Oh? I don't want to think about it. Why, I guess because it's a mob based episodes. While we're talking about it, but I don't want to. We've just got why am I keep doing it? Stop and stop yourself. Stop it. But Michael then fires Homer and Bard. He says, no, it's not gonna happen. I'm now taking over I don't know why I got a big chuckled out of this fa Can I still talk with my hands? Michael faults his arms. No, yes, Michael says he surrenders. The whole family surrenders in exchange for the safety of my family and the Simpsons, my friends, I surrender. I'm handing over all my father's territory in exchange for the safety of my family and the Simpsons. Sorry, we can only guarantee we won't hurt them. Yeah, you know, they still got to eat right and exercise. What the dog once in a while, He's a furry little fitness well said. He says his future is in the Family's future is now in cooking, and Bart's future is going to be in bootleg DVDs, which takes me back to my future because that was my future. I boot their DVDs a lot. I made a lot of money from doing so. I didn't do it. I didn't do that, but I certainly made my I did never sold them, and I made my fair share of bootleg vhs. Was showing the generation gap between Dander and myself. So would you I still remember when I would hire a DVD. I had one of those players where I had a DVD player at a VHS in it, and I had a thing. Do you remember does this termine anything to you, Macrovision. I know what you're talking about, the copyright protection basically, yeah, yeah, I mean it was tough because there were some titles well I know what you're talking about there, but I mean there were certainly some titles with with VHS where they had copy protecting on the tape. Yes, and you know, you try to make your copy and then you play back your version, like the trackings, all of its weird colors happening here. My scheme ruined. But I would have to switch on the back of our VCR. It was like an a legal VCR, and you flick the macrovisions switch and you would be able to copy from DVD to video. And it's like it's DVD equality. It's like, well, it's not really, but when DVD equality meant something, Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely. I mean I think I've spoken to pass about my my buddy Steve, who was very early adopter of all this kind of technology. He had a laserness player and you know, he made me a VHS rip of his true romance. You mentioned this, Yeah, yeah, laserness back in like ninety three, and this was like maybe three months before it came out the movies here and I sort of walking into town go Lance right Gas. Yeah, it was People who were born in the last twenty years won't understand like the birth of DVD, but the idea of it being so crisp you've been able to the idea of being able to skip a chapter meant so much to movie lovers, like, oh yeah, it was like the greatest chapter selection was like the selling point, Like that was like the greatest chapter seward. Yeah, or you know common Trees or some not even that the cup comes with the trailers. I could watch the trailers before I watched the movie and then go to my favorite part in the movie. We've chapter selection. Yeah, I don't necessarily have to fast forward through it. Or yeah, I mean, but I remember getting my first DVD player back and probably around two thousand or something. Honestly, they'll look on my face when I opened the box. It's like that scene in The Raiders Lost Ark where Indie goes down to the Well of the Souls and you know, finds, oh, this is where this is where the things locating. He's got that look on his face that was me, you have no idea. This sounds so super nerdy. But he's not really my uncle, but he's my uncle's party. So I caught him Uncle John. He's moved away now, but basically he used to have a bunch of like old school like he collected like old school VHA chesters, like VCRs and TVs and things like that. And the TV that I've got in my garage he gave to me as a gift before he moved away for to play my old school video games on right and it was a fifty one centimeter Sony television right box box television. It had never been opened before, so like I still this was like three or four years ago, opening up like a nineteen ninety seven fifty one centiment whatever it was Sony television. Man, it felt like the smell like the smell felt like nineteen ninety seven. It was such an experience. It sounds silly, but it was so awesome opening up and never before opened television from nineteen ninety seven. It was so cool. You should have you should have videoed it for YouTube and people would have loved unboxing video. Yeah, but people would have liked it. I reckon it was so I imagine they wouldn't have Yeah, turning it off for the first time, the crack will sound. Oh my god, that's so dope. Ah, the good old days. But anyway, did we get to commentaries and stuff and disclosed vs. One more little anecdote. We'll get into it. But by the way, when I say that, I used to build their davods. I used to order dvodies from China and resell them at the markets and things like that and triple my money. Anyway, I the other day, Elliott wanted to watch the Grand final of the Geelong Sydney from last year the AFL Grand Final, but he wanted to watch them running out and if you just watch it via Foxtel, they just skip straight to the first bounce of the game. I said, if you want to watch the opening thing just I said, just put the disk in mate, and he goes, what's a disc? I was like, that's right, kids these days won't know what a disc is. Its like it made me very sad. But then Alliott, now he knows how to put the disc in the DVD player and I was just like, see you put the disk in here, and it plays it. I was like, holy shit, I am old. It's a novelty for this kid to put a disc into a video into a DVD player and it plays it. I'm like, it's on this. He goes, So the game's on this on this. I was like, yeah, he goes, WHOA. I was like then when we played the music on the vinyl, So it's basically like when I played vinyl. It's like him playing a DVD was the same sort of thing to him. I was like, you mean it's on this and I was like yeah, it's like oh wow. I mean, I don't think I've ever felt so old, but yeah, So anyway, boot the DEVI Dads, that's what Bart's going to be doing. Batman begins. I believe it was the movie that Bart was bootlecking. There. It's a very very shoddy cover. YEP. Lisa and Marge are very proud of what's what they're proud of again, proud of what Michael's done. Essentially, I think, yeah, I'm proud that I don't have to look away what my husband's doing these days and home is doing the lady man, lady man with his man boobs, which everyone's done at some point true the calor breeze is now unfortunately for them, have all been poisoned. And I like, I did like the twist here, so you know, I want to see it coming. I remember watching this one. I don't remember the ending, so I didn't see it coming. So they're buried next to it. Want to be buried next to his wife under the British jersey over Then it eats the eats the what were they were they? Brownies? What were they again? That he served meat balls? Meat balls? That's right to prove it that it wasn't him that did it. And then Michael says, I shouldn't have used this recipe And basically it was like a recipe for enemies, and it's got three ingredients on like poisoned meat and something else and Lisa's And then we get Lisa who's just randomly at Michael's house with fat Tony. I know why she's really there. It's this for the ending of the episode essentially, But it's a good fella trip. Yeah yeah, but he's Fat Tony's in bed recovering for when he was shot. Well done, my son, in making peace with our enemies, you are able to take them down. Perhaps you and I are not so different after all, Papa. I'm just glad you're okay. I'll get some rest. Why didn't you tell him it was an accident? It was an accident, right, Michael, don't ever ask me about my business, Lisa, Michael ro from I did like as you're saying. I did think they did drag it out little bit long at the end, But I did like the initial door opening. He's playing with toy cars. That was pretty funny. And he's like that the schoolyard bullies as an henchman. Yes, yeah, they's so. Yeah. I thought this was a fun premiere for season eighteen. Definitely, this is better than most episodes in season seventeen. I want to say, don't you reckon? I reckon? So yeah, it's just a good, solid, fun episode. Yeah, great guest performances, you know, a nice cameo from from Metallica. A few good gags for good one line is, a few good visual gags. Oh no, we're after a good start, Dando, we are, indeed, what do we learn, Palmer? So what did you learn from the episode, mister Davis that the composition of a hybrid is a half idiot half more of them. I've learned here that every good thing faws for truck. From this forward, your names till be all right, mister Davis, It is now time for the season eighteen Guy David's New Name Championship. Now I believe it was a man Andy Kaslowski. He drew an image of the four finger discount title belts, basically wrestling title belts. So you're now going to be considered if you are the winner of the New Name Championship, you are the current four fingered Discount Champion. So the current champion is the reigning and defending Luke McKay. He's done it again, He's won it twice. Now can he go? Can he go to the three peat? Can he do it three in a row? We shall soon find out. But mister Davis, what are your top three for the first episode of season eighteen? What are the names? Yes, let's go into it. One point goes to son of Scam, Son of Scam, not bad. That is from our man Heath Appleby, who didn't do two bad last season. So the world done, Heath, Thank you for that one. How do you like them? Applebee's yep? Two points for food fellas. Oh that's really good, right, that is really good number. The three points better be better than this. That is a good one. That's from Oh he's back, he was just he disappeared last season. Philip Jay Hawkins is back and ready to take that title. Look at Luke McKay, he's coming for you. Spread the wings. The Hawkers back and three points four Mobster dinner. That's pretty clever. I like that because from Clever Muldoon, clever Car, clever car. All right, we're it's it's it's on. I mean, we've got three solid players coming in hot we do Kyle mule Doon on three points, Philip Jay Hawkins on two, and Heat that will be on the one point. So that means that Luke McKay's on nothing. He's got some catching up to do. If you're listening to Luke McKay, come on, brother, you can do this. Go for that three piece. It's never it's never happened before in the history of four finger discap We need that three peep. Of course, mister Davis goes in blind. He doesn't know who writes his names. I collect all the names sending through to him and he just picks them that way. Anyway, it's now time for some mail bag, mister Davis. Mail Bag, Debil. Debil is here. First question he comes from, not Andrew JP. It's from Ian Astley, and Ian Astley says, what are your thoughts on the TV show The Sopranos. Ian, I'm glad you asked. And look, I may have mentioned this in the past on Fourth and Discount or one of our many other programs. I haven't watched all that much Sopranos, and this is I'm not saying, oh, I don't make gangster shows. Oh this looks good a bit, or anything like that from where everything I hear about it, it looks and sounds fantastic. It's just one of those shows that I haven't got around to yet. I'm sure everyone has something like that. Everyone has a program like that where it's like, oh, I know this is good. Look it's on the list bucket, The Vampire Slayer. I've never seen it. Well, if you want, I mean, I've got the you said I've got all the DVDs. I'm like, it's I'm Disney. Plus, it's cool, brother, we were just talking about how good it is that the things are this do I mean, I do want the Disney because I do want the and terries and things like that, because it's Weeden, isn't it It is? Yeah, yeah, the only way you're gonna hear from johns Wheden these days, given that he's been canceled. But now I am way way, way, way, way way behind on my soprano's viewing. It ends. Yeah, I know how the final episode ends, but there's that's a shame. Yeah, I don't know. I mean I think I kind of like the idea of that, the idea of we're not sure exactly. I don't know. I love the ending, but it's a shame that you know how it ends. Oh yeah, yeah, But but I don't know about the sort of the lead up to that. There's a lot of stuff I don't know about it. I mean, I know about certain characters, and I know about certain plot developments in these lads, but there's I'm just not that I have to speed with it. We can make that one of our monthly exclusive stories. But if Patreon as a soprano's revisit, why not not a bad idea because it will be there be many big hit shows out there that you haven't seen right, can you think of any others? Gosh, that's really good. I don't think i've seen all of six feet Under either, all of the sort of the early presstige TV stuff. Joe, I never saw Davin Thrones, really, yeah, i'd tapped out about season five or so. Okay, yeah, but you've never seen any of it. No, I've never seen. I've seen the first episode like three times, and I'm just like, yeah, I can't. I just don't go back. It's weird. There's just so much stuff out there to watch. Yeah, there really is. Yeah, but I loved the Sopranos, absolutely loved it. I watched it for the first time in like my continuous viewing. I want to say, four on hours before Elliott, so it must have been actually, no, it was. It was before Alice would have about five six years ago. And I remember being so confused by the ending. I won't support for the people who haven't seen the ending. Like the way it's shot, in the way it's gone, you think something's gone wrong. That can't be it what happened here? Because I downloaded it and watched, I was like, ah, funk, they're fucked with me. Like the finale, the men a dodgy copy of it or whatever. But no, that's out to end. And upon reflection after I did some research and sort of read some things, and I'm like, that is probably the perfect way to end the show. I want to say how it was, but it was a really, really great ending. I think to my to date, I still say Breaking Bad probably has the best finale I've ever seen. Breaking Bad. The finale was just unbelievable, But the sopranos, I absolutely loved what it does. Is it just sort of much of this episode gives you sort of an insight into like the personal lives of mobsters and how their day to day lives work. And I just couldn't do it. Just seems like such an effort. Anything I sort of compare it to is maybe like Sons of Anarchy, where it's just like we're going to get revenge. In the minds, I imagine having to live your life getting revenge for ship's like, ah, I can't again with the again again with the revenge. I wasting bothered with it all, but I Sons of Unyky, on the other hand, had a terrible finale, but I loved the sopranos, and I bought it on blue ray the box set when jab HiPE I had like the buy I get one free deal a couple of years ago, and it's still sitting there seal and never time'. Looking over at the shoff, I'm like, we're going to bust that out soon. So maybe this podcast w'bab be a good reason to do so. There's commentaries and documentaries and things like that, So stay tuned to people. We'll see if there's enough people like that who want to hear us talk about Serranos, let us know me, we may consider it. We might wake up this morning and make ourselves a show. Yes, a great great theme music. Can you think of a show that has a theme music that better suits the show than Sopranos? Like that was just spot on right, It's pretty bang on, and it just makes the show feel so cool as well. That's the one thing that I guess that's what it did. It glorified bad guys a lot that show. But to the best of my understanding, what occasionally I pull the rug from out under you and go, oh, wait a minute, no monsters. Much like Joe's character, You're just like, oh yeah, they're just pieces of shit. Yeah, listen, I'm not saying you're a piece of shit. I'm just saying no, No, we're very we're very pro mob Clumbers Day is better than Christmas. Don't worry. By the way, I believe we've got the timing right. But as we record this today, the twentieth of September, Yeah, today would have been the late James Gandelphoeni's sixty second birthday. Oh wow, he that was such a shame that he lost him so early. Man, it felt like he was just about disorders, because like he was an incredible actor and he just know that he would have had so many great movie roles going for it. Arthur Sopranos, like the world was his oyster at that point. And yeah, just taking away way too early. Absolutely, absolutely right. Andrew J. P says, what's your favorite real life musical guest and the show Here's is Eric Smith. They were so good sports, such good sports, and Steven Tyler's Hello Saint Louis is legendary. I definitely agree. I would put Chili Peppers up there as well. I've thought Chili Peppers in christ Gets canceled was amazing, were amazing. I pought Chili peppers in as well. Look, I'm not going to go beyond season eighteen or even season seventeen because we just started season eighteen, but some of the ones I've got down here are definitely red ot chili peppers, usually not so much for them, but some of the gags surrounding them, and every the one with red hot chili peppers and grassy Can we change your lyric to I want as I want to hug and kiss you? Well, that's great, everyone enjoy that. I just love that so much. I think it's such a such a great Gagma pullus is a great one. A lot of a lot of great mystical appearances than that one. I was about to say, likewise, when when Billy Corgan appears Billy Corgan smashing Pumpkins Simpson smiling blackly, did he now owns his own wrestling company n WA? From what I understand, Yeah, that was just probably Billy just recently got married to somebody to his wife as well, Lontan partner. Yes, I would put I would put Barry White in there from Whacking Day. Tom Jones from Marge Gets a Job was another great one. I justnt we touched on it. Recently come up what show it was? But the Rolling Stones were fantastic in their appearance. They were good. We'll touch It was during the Scott Tenner and must Die review that we did exclusively of Patreon. We did the talking about Radiohead amackim how much we like the SNS And I think you mentioned Ringo in that as well, which it's written the letter that's right. Yeah, bring it was a great one, just him going yeah would have been would have been the first introduction a lot of people had to Liverpool slang. Yeah. George Harrison as well, what a nice fellow, very very good. I liked and sink a lot. I mean their performance was. I just liked the enthusiasm they brought to it, and especially when you saw them recording at the end. Yeah, I thought that was great. And look this was coming up, but I just know it's going to be one of my favorites. He's I think he's in tree House of Horror this season, eighteen trees tree House of Horror. So mix a lot is coming up. Oh shit, okay, looking forward to that one. We should also throw you two. I thought you two were pretty good in their appearance, even though they didn't they all it is really sing a song and sort of joined in for the garbage Man's song. But it's just it's iconic when they appeared, and I just loved that episode a lot. But yeah, there's plenty of musical guest starts and the Simpsons, as I was saying in the South Part review, they very rarely disappoint the musical guest. Does Tony Bennett. We can't forget Tony Bennett, who was the first person who ever guessed that on The Simpsons as himself. Tony Bennett was singing Capital City. Yeah, the late great, the late great. Indeed, all right. Harrison McClure says, who in the Sopranos would you want to spend a day with? And why would it be Poorly? You haven't, you haven't watched much of it, but Poorly seems like the kind of guy that would just take you around. You'd see some shocking shit. You wouldn't say nothing because Poorly's there, and you're just like, all right, I don't want to piss off Poorly, but you probably have. You probably have the most enjoyable day hanging out with Poorly. But if I want to hang out with anybody, particularly probably just be probably Tony in general, because you just there's something that being with the mob boss, Like I'd love to experience a day in the life of a mob boss. Yeah, just oh my god. Everybody's just bending over backwards to please this guy or not displease this guy. That's Yeah. You're just an interesting glimpse into that world, wouldn't it. What's your from, Glenn Gomez? What's the food that you enjoyed that you just made up? E g. Skittle brow something you just made up? I mean, I wouldn't forget the day that I just put Like this sounds ridiculous, right, but I threw soy sauce on a toast of sandwich and it's fucking delicious. Like I didn't think it would, but through soy sauce on look a toast of sandwich and it was just not just soy sauce like chicken and stuff. But I'm like, I'm had a mustard. What can I put it in to make it like that? A little bit of a saltier taste, some soy sauce and there it was delicious. So soy sauce and sandwich worked well for me. What about you? Oh God, that's really work because I tend to fairly slavishly follow recipes and then just throw a bit of hot sauce on something if I think it's going to be a bit bland. Very good question. I'm sorry, I can't. We'll come back to it. We'll come back to that one, all right, and find a question here. Fergus Jeffs. This one is for you, specifically, mister Davis. He says, what is a mobster slash gangster movie you feel more people should be talking about? He recently saw nineteen ninety Three's a Bronx Tail with Chas palimin Teri and Robert de Niro, and he absolutely loved it. Also would recommend Married to the Mob for a mob comedy starring Michelle Fife at as at her most charming and beautiful. So what is a mob gangst movie that you think more people should be talking about, mister Davis? I holy kur are Married to the Mob. It is lovely a bronx tale. I saw it once back in the day, and I haven't really revisited it for a while. Although and not well, well, let's drop another podcast name in our podcast, but the show The Rewatchables from the Ring Up Podcast network. We'll often revisit movies that they think this movie is definitely worth rewatching, and this week they're doing a Bronx Tale, So focus. If you want to hear more about it from some fairly eloquent people by Wan's give that a will and then come back to us. But if you want my personal recommendations, let me tell you something. Nineteen ninety was a really really good year for mob movies. At the end of the year we got Good Fellas, Godfather three, a really good one called State of Grace, which is about the Irish mob with Sean Penn and Gary Oldman. But it's also had two of my favorites. One is Miller's Crossing by the Cohen Brothers. It's sort of the Irish mob in New Orleans. It's really solid, quirky, tough, interesting, funny movie. But my one of my favorite movies of all time also came out around that time, and it's called King of New York. So I'm a Man. Christopher Walken as a mob boss who has just got out of like ten years in prison and basically says, all right, well I'm back and I'm taking charge. And the other mobs want to take him down. The cops want to take him down. It's the dream team of David Crusoe and Wesley Snipes versus Walkin and his crew, which includes Lawrence Fishburn, Steve Beshemmy's in there, of course he is, but he's got a very small role. But he's just then it's that guy King of New York. It is the absolute shit. I love it, I love it, I love it. I love it alright, King of New York. That is the guy at Davis Lock of the Week. Make sure we go out and check that one out. King of New York is a vaval on streaming services. Well, I've look. Let's look right now, shall we. That's a good question. I'm not sure if it is the Many twenty three, so let's have a look streaming. It was a lot of type streaming Australian because we're an Australian podcast. Let's have a look. Can you New York where to watch streaming and online flix dot com? Today? You never usually lets me down. Let's have a look where to watch? We aren't aware anywhere to watch, so you can't watch it anywhere apparently, so either built leg DVDs or go to your local your local distributor of physical media and purchase a copy. Indeed, but anyway, that is the guidance recommendation. Thank you guys for sending in your questions. Don't forget, Simpson's mailbag at gmail dot com is the best way to get in contact with us. I do read all the questions that come through and the messager, so do so Simpsons Mailbag at gmail dot com. Make that your job. With the week. We would love to hear from you. If you've never written in we Don't BUYE, we'd love to hear from you. Simpsons Mailbag at gmail dot com.
