- 0:09Speaker 1: The World's of Vigeonal podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I would love to talk playing route. What's your favorite?
- 0:24Speaker 1: The complete one? Nobody knows? Slants like.
- 0:28Speaker 4: You just did the thing, the one people like, what
- 0:31Speaker 4: are your favorite players? That men due to women when
- 0:34Speaker 4: they say they're like in a different way.
- 0:37Speaker 5: The direction of the route was a slant. You're right,
- 0:41Speaker 5: I know I'm wrong. I don't care what you want
- 0:45Speaker 5: to call it. Scream whatever he was slanting toward the
- 0:47Speaker 5: goal line.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm breaking out in hives, not being able
- 0:50Speaker 1: to Drake. You don't have a nickname, Drake, what's your
- 0:54Speaker 1: favorite cookie?
- 0:55Speaker 3: What's your favorite names?
- 0:56Speaker 1: And? As Mark Twain once said, cursing brings relief found
- 0:59Speaker 1: not even in prayer. My dearest resolution is to make
- 1:02Speaker 1: paula Patriots fans. You know we're going to offer me
- 1:04Speaker 1: a free gift. Make it worth my while. Nathan, Connecticut,
- 1:07Speaker 1: we can hear you.
- 1:08Speaker 2: This is Patriots.

- 1:13Speaker 1: Toyota dot Com. All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It
- 1:19Speaker 1: is Tuesday here at Gillette Stadium, and the playoffs are here.
- 1:25Speaker 1: It is an exciting time to be here at Gillette
- 1:29Speaker 1: Stadium from four and thirteen to thirteen and four? Are
- 1:32Speaker 1: we interrupting your screen time?
- 1:34Speaker 4: Paul?
- 1:35Speaker 6: I was just looking to see if Stefan Diggs was
- 1:37Speaker 6: a screen or a slant. Sorry, I mean I didn't.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Mean to do that. Okay, the difference and energy, do
- 1:43Speaker 1: you but as I was saying, yes, playoffs can be
- 1:49Speaker 1: palpably felt here, Yeah, yes, it's intense. It's intense. I'm
- 1:53Speaker 1: not joking around. We're getting ready, I'm serious.
- 1:55Speaker 6: No, I do sons, you know, like the the whatever
- 1:59Speaker 6: you want to call the gap five years, six years
- 2:01Speaker 6: or whatever. I mean, they had a playoff game in
- 2:04Speaker 6: the middle, but hosting a playoff game for the first
- 2:07Speaker 6: time since nineteen you can sense it. There's a difference
- 2:10Speaker 6: in the There's not as much entitlement as we used
- 2:14Speaker 6: to have. You know that in the glory days.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah, they had no chance to take it.
- 2:20Speaker 3: For granted, they had like six guys out with COVID,
- 2:22Speaker 3: and plus they were already the.
- 2:24Speaker 6: One I'm pretty sure remember the local media picked the
- 2:26Speaker 6: Patriots to win that game.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Oh god, I don't know how, but yeah, this is
- 2:30Speaker 3: definitely a different feel, and you could feel it after
- 2:33Speaker 3: the game on Sunday, that energy. Most of the players,
- 2:36Speaker 3: it felt like had kind of mentally turned the page
- 2:38Speaker 3: instantly on Sunday night, like it wasn't the normal. You know,
- 2:42Speaker 3: let's celebrate this one tonight. That's what I said the
- 2:45Speaker 3: opponent on Monday.
- 2:47Speaker 1: This was like check the box on the mic.
- 2:50Speaker 6: Was very happy they didn't they didn't cleanch the division
- 2:53Speaker 6: and you know, enjoy it.
- 2:54Speaker 7: Yeah, well, like for that reason, I don't want to celebrating.
- 2:56Speaker 7: We got to celebrate and over with. Let's turn the
- 2:58Speaker 7: page to the playoffs and let's get focus so that
- 3:00Speaker 7: can be like the seven Patriots joyless, no, no, and
- 3:04Speaker 7: they were not that point.
- 3:05Speaker 3: It was interesting too that like a lot of the
- 3:07Speaker 3: guys didn't do it, fred I can do it.
- 3:09Speaker 1: They didn't even know they were playing the Chargers.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Like guys were walking around asking us in the media,
- 3:14Speaker 3: like you know what happened in the Broncos game, because
- 3:16Speaker 3: they're not they're playing there, you know, doing their things,
- 3:19Speaker 3: so that you know, guys are asking us like, oh, did.
- 3:22Speaker 1: We who are playing God?
- 3:24Speaker 3: And I just kept saying Chargers, Chargers, Chargers, Like, so
- 3:28Speaker 3: it's a it's a different mindset for sure.
- 3:30Speaker 1: This is you can feel it. Well, it's it's Evan,
- 3:33Speaker 1: it's Paul, it's Deuce, it's me, it's Matt Nabooth.
- 3:35Speaker 6: And uh, but.
- 3:38Speaker 1: One of your guys agrees with me. Oh Joe Murray,
- 3:42Speaker 1: scary Patriots are being disrespected by the Chargers.
- 3:47Speaker 6: Okay, so he says, I saw this. He actually thinks
- 3:52Speaker 6: that the Chargers dumped the game, yeah, on purpose?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so that they could play the Patriots. I
- 3:57Speaker 1: don't Yeah, I think this has been a strategy flaw
- 4:00Speaker 1: in his argument is that Denver had something to play for,
- 4:04Speaker 1: which is retaining the first seedy.
- 4:08Speaker 3: This has been happening where if you're walked in locked
- 4:11Speaker 3: into one of those wild card spots, teams have been
- 4:13Speaker 3: resting starters now for like since this new playoff format
- 4:17Speaker 3: has come about.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Like, did Philadelphia dumped the game so they could play
- 4:21Speaker 6: San Francisco?
- 4:23Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 4:24Speaker 6: Did Houston try to dump the game so they couldn't
- 4:28Speaker 6: play Pittsburgh because they took all their starters out of
- 4:30Speaker 6: the game and they almost lost.
- 4:31Speaker 1: They won in a last second field goal.
- 4:33Speaker 6: But I'm going just think that Evan has this when
- 4:38Speaker 6: when the teams are at the end of the year.
- 4:39Speaker 6: This is why I am not an advocate of expanding
- 4:42Speaker 6: the season. If you keep on adding games, you're going
- 4:45Speaker 6: to get more games like this that teams are going
- 4:47Speaker 6: to say, I'm in the playoffs. I just need to
- 4:50Speaker 6: get there, and if I don't get help, and if
- 4:52Speaker 6: I don't get there with a semblance of my roster,
- 4:53Speaker 6: I have no chance. So it's unfortunate because the Chargers
- 4:57Speaker 6: could have finished a slot higher had they won again,
- 5:00Speaker 6: they could have finished with the sixth seed. They looked
- 5:03Speaker 6: at that as not being worth the risk of injuring
- 5:06Speaker 6: their players, the same way the Eagles did, the same
- 5:08Speaker 6: way the Texans did. There were probably other teams that
- 5:11Speaker 6: I'm not even thinking of. I mean, Buffalo won anyways,
- 5:14Speaker 6: but the Buffalo rested everybody.
- 5:16Speaker 1: You're probably right, but I'm going with Joe Murray.
- 5:19Speaker 6: I thought you were going with the spread. That's where
- 5:21Speaker 6: I thought you were going.
- 5:22Speaker 1: With the Well, the Spets gone up to three and
- 5:24Speaker 1: a half, right.
- 5:25Speaker 6: It was Mike, it was three and a half on
- 5:29Speaker 6: the postgame show, correct.
- 5:30Speaker 1: So what is it now? Three and a half? Not
- 5:32Speaker 1: according to Joe Murray sent two and a half.
- 5:34Speaker 6: It was three and a half when we did the
- 5:36Speaker 6: postgame show. That's the first time I looked was we
- 5:39Speaker 6: were doing the postgame show. Where did you look on DraftKings?
- 5:42Speaker 6: That's I don't know where he was looking. That's our
- 5:45Speaker 6: official lines, the official sponsor of Patriots unfiltered lines, which Mike,
- 5:50Speaker 6: I don't know what you're smiling at. You should not
- 5:52Speaker 6: be happy about anything to do with spreads.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I just ignore, idiot. I don't even know. But what
- 5:58Speaker 1: does it even mean? I don't know. I think that's
- 6:00Speaker 1: a fair sprint. But I do think that the Chargers
- 6:04Speaker 1: prefer to play the Patriots, and I think that's a
- 6:06Speaker 1: slight and I think the pay don't care for it.
- 6:09Speaker 1: The Patriots should take it to heart and show them
- 6:12Speaker 1: what's for when they get here, I hope.
- 6:15Speaker 6: So I'm going to go with it. I'm going to
- 6:16Speaker 6: go because nobody believes in us, because about a month
- 6:19Speaker 6: ago the Chargers went to Jacksonville and got their doors
- 6:22Speaker 6: blown off, so I don't think they wanted any part
- 6:23Speaker 6: of that again. So they said, you know what, Yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 6: let's make sure we don't get Jacksonville.
- 6:28Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I mean I I look back, I think
- 6:31Speaker 7: I completely forgot just about every detail of last year's
- 6:34Speaker 7: Chargers game. Not that that means a whole heck of
- 6:36Speaker 7: a lot this year, but I do think that that
- 6:38Speaker 7: game is just a little reminder of what Justin Herbert
- 6:41Speaker 7: looks like when he gets rolling and he scores on
- 6:43Speaker 7: eight out of ten drives and gets pulled before the
- 6:45Speaker 7: third quarter.
- 6:46Speaker 6: Most memorable thing about the Chargers game.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Last year it tell me what did I have for
- 6:49Speaker 1: lunch coming out of happening? Now I remember something from
- 6:55Speaker 1: the other thing that should get Patriots fans all riled up.
- 6:58Speaker 1: And it's a good thing for five that our game
- 7:01Speaker 1: isn't on Fox. It's on NBC because Tom Brady slighted
- 7:07Speaker 1: our man, Drake Drake May May. Did you hear about this?
- 7:11Speaker 1: I'm on the edge of my seat. I have a
- 7:15Speaker 1: Tom Do you tell the story? So he was asked
- 7:18Speaker 1: about quarterbacks, right, and he was talking about asked about
- 7:22Speaker 1: the m v P. The m v P, and he said,
- 7:25Speaker 1: which is fine, I'm not worried about this part that
- 7:28Speaker 1: he thinks you should go to Matthew Stafford that he's
- 7:31Speaker 1: done some he has been amazing. He's been amazing this season.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And then of course, and then of course Gronk asked
- 7:39Speaker 1: him about Drake May. I think Gronk was the one
- 7:42Speaker 1: talking to Brady at the time. He said, what about
- 7:44Speaker 1: Drake May goes, well, he's done some amazing things with
- 7:48Speaker 1: Josh Oh Okay, I didn't have that. Not he's done
- 7:54Speaker 1: some amazing things or not, he is amazing. He's done
- 7:58Speaker 1: some amazing things with John.
- 8:00Speaker 6: I mean again, you guys know how I feel. May
- 8:03Speaker 6: would be my pick. I understand the Stafford part of it,
- 8:05Speaker 6: But why isn't Stafford considered to have done amazing things
- 8:08Speaker 6: with Sean?
- 8:10Speaker 3: Right because he doesn't know Sean McVay. He's trying to
- 8:13Speaker 3: cast up his guy. Would be my guest. I don't
- 8:16Speaker 3: really care for some of the things that our goat
- 8:20Speaker 3: has said and done over the last six months.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Well here's but I'm not really a fan. I mean,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and in the back of his mind, he's probably got
- 8:28Speaker 1: this governor going that I can't seem to be favoring
- 8:32Speaker 1: the Patriots in any way, or maybe even why I think,
- 8:35Speaker 1: or maybe even Tampa Bay, which is all the reasoning
- 8:40Speaker 1: that's going on. And you know, now, I guess Matt
- 8:43Speaker 1: Ryan is going to be an executive with the fact
- 8:48Speaker 1: I have interest in it, and is he going to
- 8:50Speaker 1: retain his job.
- 8:52Speaker 6: According to reports that he wants to do what Brady does.
- 8:55Speaker 1: This is getting ridiculous. Your move, Goodell, Yeah, this is
- 8:58Speaker 1: getting ridiculous. Forget about Goodell, your move network executives for
- 9:03Speaker 1: your own integrity. Now we know that they're at I know,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I know, but still, like, if you're a fan and
- 9:09Speaker 1: you're watching the broadcast and it's Matt Ryan, like and
- 9:15Speaker 1: he's doing a Falcons, how does that work?
- 9:18Speaker 2: You know?
- 9:18Speaker 1: Now, Brady hasn't gotten to the Patriots yet, he hasn't
- 9:21Speaker 1: done a Patriots game, but I wonder what He's got
- 9:23Speaker 1: a ten year contract with Fox at Gate that's inevitable
- 9:26Speaker 1: at some point.
- 9:26Speaker 6: He's don't really care about him doing a Patriots game.
- 9:29Speaker 6: I care about him doing a Raiders game.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Well too, that's any crap about the Patriots.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I'm sorry to say that, but like, like, I'm sure
- 9:41Speaker 3: he does a little bit, but like this has been
- 9:43Speaker 3: all season with him, and I know I'm going to
- 9:45Speaker 3: probably get crucified for like going against Brady, but they
- 9:50Speaker 3: had him doing like power rankings early on in the year,
- 9:53Speaker 3: and he wouldn't pick the Patriots over Tampa Bay because
- 9:55Speaker 3: don't make me pick between those two.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Right, So now you're okay. Now Now I love Tom Brady.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I love him as a person, as a Patriot. You know,
- 10:06Speaker 1: I'll always be indebted to him. I'll always be grateful
- 10:08Speaker 1: for what he did. But he's making it awful easy
- 10:10Speaker 1: for Patriots fan to move on from him. He really is.
- 10:13Speaker 6: No but I would just say like that stuff aside,
- 10:16Speaker 6: I don't have any issue with him broadcast. Like every
- 10:19Speaker 6: single one of these analysts is a former player, so
- 10:23Speaker 6: all the former players obviously had to play for some team.
- 10:26Speaker 6: So when JJ Watt is doing a game, I believe
- 10:28Speaker 6: I saw a big thing on Twitter this week the
- 10:31Speaker 6: Texans are four and oh when JJ Watt does the
- 10:33Speaker 6: Texans game.
- 10:34Speaker 1: But he's also an owner.
- 10:35Speaker 6: That's what makes Brady in this thing with Ryan different. Matt.
- 10:39Speaker 6: Ryan is going to be the head of whatever true
- 10:42Speaker 6: the footballs are in Atlanta, and he wants to do
- 10:45Speaker 6: he wants the Sweetheart Brady deal.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Right.
- 10:48Speaker 6: How many times was it just an exception for Brady
- 10:52Speaker 6: or are they going to let Matt Ryan and.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Brady do this right? And who's that?
- 10:56Speaker 2: To me?
- 10:56Speaker 1: Makes it different? Who's next?
- 10:58Speaker 2: I got your pizza?
- 11:00Speaker 1: Call whatever games you want to call it.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Just like you're supposed to be a patriot, stop like
- 11:05Speaker 3: railing against the patriots like you you're you're picking.
- 11:12Speaker 6: Is he over compensating not favoring.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yet he's being subdued in his I don't know that
- 11:18Speaker 1: the patriot.
- 11:18Speaker 3: He's had opportunities as well to come call games here
- 11:21Speaker 3: and for some reason we get you know, Greg Olsen,
- 11:24Speaker 3: who's great by the way, but we're not.
- 11:27Speaker 1: We don't get the Fox A team.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Do you think that's his choice?
- 11:30Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm just telling you Foxwood make.
- 11:33Speaker 6: The choices the number one SEQ if you can avoid
- 11:36Speaker 6: me going into England. That's why I asked, do you
- 11:38Speaker 6: think it's his choice?
- 11:39Speaker 1: I don't know, but his his his his preference, pference.
- 11:45Speaker 3: We've been like going on a you know, since really
- 11:47Speaker 3: the statue that was sort of like the end of
- 11:52Speaker 3: the book, and now we've been going on a you know,
- 11:55Speaker 3: all season long that he's said a lot of things
- 11:57Speaker 3: that are anti patriots.
- 11:58Speaker 6: It is what it is.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I want to believe what he said, that he's a
- 12:02Speaker 1: patriot for life. Yeah, I want to believe in that.
- 12:04Speaker 3: I'm not saying he isn't, and I'm sure that he
- 12:06Speaker 3: feels that way. But as Tom Brady and you have
- 12:11Speaker 3: a quarterback in Drake May that played for the team
- 12:13Speaker 3: you played for, that has a legitimate case to be
- 12:16Speaker 3: the MVP of the league, it goes.
- 12:18Speaker 1: It holds a lot of weight.
- 12:19Speaker 3: If Tom Brady puts his support behind Drake May for
- 12:22Speaker 3: the MVP and he picks Matthew Stafford, who who he
- 12:26Speaker 3: met at like a skiers wort once in Montana, I
- 12:29Speaker 3: really am a cynical SOB.
- 12:31Speaker 6: I go the opposite way on those, Like if if
- 12:35Speaker 6: Greg Olsen was saying like Bryce Young should like, I'd
- 12:38Speaker 6: be like, wow, he's going with the Carolina guy.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Oh yeah, big shock.
- 12:42Speaker 6: Like like when I watched like all of these shows
- 12:45Speaker 6: and every one of these guys that they just openly
- 12:47Speaker 6: shield for their team.
- 12:49Speaker 1: You know, Nick Saban picking Alabama, I mean you know.
- 12:51Speaker 6: Well Nick Saban spending two hours telling you how good
- 12:54Speaker 6: Indiana is and then picking Alabama in the pregame, Like right,
- 12:58Speaker 6: I just kind of dismiss it as like, I don't know,
- 13:01Speaker 6: does he really think that or is he just like
- 13:04Speaker 6: going for his team.
- 13:05Speaker 1: When you work our own a team, that it makes
- 13:08Speaker 1: it all different and you can say, well, not a
- 13:10Speaker 1: lot of players are gonna be able to afford what
- 13:11Speaker 1: Brady did. Brady didn't pay for that, but he got
- 13:14Speaker 1: a group of investors together, the owner.
- 13:17Speaker 6: The base of it, Like this Matt Ryan thing is
- 13:20Speaker 6: is just as like, you know, significant like John Elway
- 13:24Speaker 6: was the football zar in Denver for a while. Would
- 13:27Speaker 6: that have been okay if he was doing you know,
- 13:29Speaker 6: the lea he was like Jim Nanton and John elwaves
- 13:33Speaker 6: Nanton Romeo like you don't see the difference there.
- 13:36Speaker 1: It just smells to me. It reminds me a lot
- 13:37Speaker 1: of back in my day. I'll give you an example.
- 13:40Speaker 1: It's like somebody it's like a CEO of Navidia being
- 13:44Speaker 1: an analyst on c NBC. Yeah you can't do that. Yeah,
- 13:49Speaker 1: you can't do that.
- 13:50Speaker 6: If I knew with any of that meant, I would say, yeah,
- 13:52Speaker 6: that sounds that's that's not right.
- 13:54Speaker 7: I just noticed when I was in my old job
- 13:56Speaker 7: that we would always like guys who had one did
- 13:58Speaker 7: one thing well, And now it's like you want to
- 14:01Speaker 7: bet on success.
- 14:02Speaker 1: But this doesn't mean that those people are going to say, so.
- 14:05Speaker 7: Why Matt Ryan, Like because he was pretty like he
- 14:07Speaker 7: was a good quarterback for them, Like what what is he?
- 14:10Speaker 1: What does he have the special side? Like Press, you know,
- 14:12Speaker 1: Arthur Blank, He's just.
- 14:13Speaker 7: A name that they can roll out and say, Look,
- 14:15Speaker 7: it's the same reason the only guy he got us
- 14:17Speaker 7: to a Super Bowl is now going to.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Run Why Atlanta would do it?
- 14:20Speaker 6: Yeah, but it's the.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Same reason why like cam Neely runs the Bruins, Like,
- 14:23Speaker 3: it's not necessarily that they have this great acumen for
- 14:26Speaker 3: the sport.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It's that they know the city, they know the team,
- 14:29Speaker 1: they know the culture.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Like and my fans know them, right, But I don't
- 14:32Speaker 3: think he's going out to the Senior Bowl in a
- 14:34Speaker 3: couple of weeks and scouting prospects and like telling them
- 14:36Speaker 3: who to pick.
- 14:37Speaker 6: I made the same thing yesterday, Matt. Matt Smith and
- 14:41Speaker 6: I were talking about you look at like Elway and
- 14:44Speaker 6: Denver Brady with the Raiders. It's like, you know, Marino
- 14:48Speaker 6: to a lesser extent with Miami, it's not like this,
- 14:51Speaker 6: let's get the star quarterback and put him in charge
- 14:54Speaker 6: of our franchise. Blueprint has worked, right, you know, and
- 14:58Speaker 6: I know Elway won a Super Bowl, but let's face it,
- 15:00Speaker 6: he was able to sign Peyton Manning. And yeah, I'm
- 15:03Speaker 6: not a terrible job, but I don't think he did
- 15:07Speaker 6: a great job. L Way if that sort of you
- 15:11Speaker 6: know pattern was really successful, like and and the analogy
- 15:16Speaker 6: that I used is like the tight pants offensive minded
- 15:19Speaker 6: coach Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, now Ben Johnson, you know,
- 15:25Speaker 6: like these guys have worked. So I would understand if,
- 15:28Speaker 6: like Woody Johnson says, you know what, we need to
- 15:31Speaker 6: find the next young, offensive minded head coach, you know,
- 15:34Speaker 6: and then hiring them because at least there's a track
- 15:36Speaker 6: record of success. The record of success with these quarterbacks
- 15:39Speaker 6: heading up teams has been a disaster. The Raiders are
- 15:42Speaker 6: picking number one overall, and now Arthur Blank says, that's
- 15:47Speaker 6: what I'm going to do.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Right Why the Falcons already have like six guys in charge,
- 15:53Speaker 3: they have like a CEO, they have GM.
- 15:57Speaker 1: It's it's a mess.
- 15:58Speaker 3: But the stuff with Brady and the Raiders doesn't bother
- 16:01Speaker 3: me that much because the Raiders are irrelevant.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Like if the.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Raiders turn it around and Fernando Mendoza turns them into
- 16:07Speaker 3: a playoff team, then.
- 16:08Speaker 6: Then you're going to be annoyed that he's doing games
- 16:10Speaker 6: and getting potentially Yeah, I.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Think that information. I think that might change things.
- 16:14Speaker 3: But for now, that the Raiders are the worst, how bad.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I only brought up Brady in reference to the Patriots,
- 16:20Speaker 1: and how yet another slight against us. You're building up
- 16:24Speaker 1: the disrespect card. Yes, I want I want that chip
- 16:27Speaker 1: on the shoulder. I'm building that ship on our shoulder.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Do you guys feel different this time around?
- 16:32Speaker 7: Though you guys had so many different playoff runs, like
- 16:34Speaker 7: it feels it's just maybe it's the missing the playoffs
- 16:37Speaker 7: or not really feeling like even when you made it
- 16:39Speaker 7: in twenty one you didn't really feel like you really
- 16:41Speaker 7: had a shot in it. But I don't know, I
- 16:43Speaker 7: just feel so much more rejuvenated right now watching like
- 16:46Speaker 7: even looking at the schedule coming out and being like, oh,
- 16:48Speaker 7: watching Buffalo Jacksonville before you know, yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Like you're part of You're part of the right, Like
- 16:52Speaker 1: you're in the like you're in the club. Now. It's
- 16:54Speaker 1: like those years.
- 16:55Speaker 7: Where I was thinking of the Dolphins fans when I
- 16:57Speaker 7: watched you know, their like crew packing up everything, and
- 16:59Speaker 7: I'm like, that's the worst. Like the last game of
- 17:01Speaker 7: the season. You got to go up to New England.
- 17:03Speaker 7: You're freezing your butt off. The game means nothing.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Go back.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I'm thinking, I'm not work.
- 17:08Speaker 7: That is true, Paul, that is the bonus, I guess.
- 17:11Speaker 7: But I just it feels renewed to me. And this
- 17:15Speaker 7: is really exciting sense that you know, you.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Said, I'm just gonna say.
- 17:19Speaker 7: But also not these like weight of expectations where when
- 17:22Speaker 7: the Brady Belichick team got into the playoffs, Like think
- 17:25Speaker 7: about when they played the Chargers last time in the
- 17:27Speaker 7: playoffs in twenty seventeen. I remember it was a twenty
- 17:30Speaker 7: eighteen sorry twenty eighteen. Them coming in they hadn't lost
- 17:33Speaker 7: a game on the road in forever, and there was
- 17:35Speaker 7: like a lot of people I think that thought that was,
- 17:36Speaker 7: you know, gonna be the game. And I just remember
- 17:38Speaker 7: the stress of like, oh my god, if we didn't
- 17:41Speaker 7: make it out of the first round this year at
- 17:42Speaker 7: the tail end, like it's it's it's gonna be really
- 17:44Speaker 7: hard to even get back to this point. And now
- 17:46Speaker 7: it's yeah, I want them to win and I'm gonna
- 17:48Speaker 7: be super disappointed if they don't. But at the same time,
- 17:50Speaker 7: I feel like they've already had a really good season.
- 17:53Speaker 6: I think that's a great point. That's what I'm glad
- 17:55Speaker 6: that you finished it, because that's where I was going
- 17:57Speaker 6: to go. There was so many years that, you know,
- 18:01Speaker 6: the playoffs would start and you'd be like, okay, wake
- 18:04Speaker 6: me and the conference championship or you know whatever, because
- 18:07Speaker 6: I just really didn't feel like there was any chance
- 18:09Speaker 6: they were going to lose. The first of all, they
- 18:11Speaker 6: rarely played in the wildcard round, but you just didn't feel,
- 18:14Speaker 6: in fairness they wouldn't be playing in the wildcard round
- 18:17Speaker 6: this year under the old rule.
- 18:19Speaker 1: That's right, because they have two buys, but.
- 18:23Speaker 6: I just didn't feel like those teams had much of
- 18:24Speaker 6: a shot. Now it's almost refreshing, and Fred's probably gonna
- 18:30Speaker 6: get mad because Fred.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Said, I like the days of the double bye.
- 18:32Speaker 6: But it's almost refreshing that you can legitimately look at
- 18:36Speaker 6: this game like a game like I don't have, like
- 18:39Speaker 6: the Patriots don't have to turn the ball over four
- 18:41Speaker 6: times to lose Sunday, which is basically what it would
- 18:44Speaker 6: have taken, you know, to have the twenty seventeen Patriots
- 18:48Speaker 6: lose to whoever they played in that divisional round. You
- 18:52Speaker 6: know that particular Houston bruck Osweiler or one of those teams,
- 18:55Speaker 6: they would have had to play a real matter of fact,
- 18:56Speaker 6: one of those games they did play a really bad
- 18:58Speaker 6: game and they still won. So that to me is
- 19:01Speaker 6: kind of different and energize. It's a little bit they
- 19:05Speaker 6: got to dive into this game and figure out our
- 19:07Speaker 6: patriots need to do to win it.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I think it's a good field of teams. Uh, it's
- 19:11Speaker 1: going to be exciting, and like you said, it's just
- 19:13Speaker 1: great to be back in the mix.
- 19:15Speaker 7: We're back in the club. Like I felt that, like
- 19:17Speaker 7: when we go to the Combine. In the first year
- 19:18Speaker 7: we went to the Combine, I was like, everybody hates
- 19:21Speaker 7: us here. You know, they've just been winning so long,
- 19:23Speaker 7: and you know, in the last couple of years, you
- 19:25Speaker 7: just kind of feel like you're outside the club.
- 19:26Speaker 1: You're you're one of these teams that you're.
- 19:28Speaker 7: Trying to hype up having a high round draft pick.
- 19:30Speaker 7: And now it's you're back in the mix. You're back
- 19:32Speaker 7: in the tournament. You're with you know these what it
- 19:34Speaker 7: was it fourteen teams that you know have all made
- 19:36Speaker 7: the playoffs, and you know you're back in that mix.
- 19:38Speaker 1: So I don't want to get ahead of ourselves. But
- 19:41Speaker 1: I was looking at you know, what could possibly happen,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and it is possible that we could have an AFC
- 19:46Speaker 1: championship here against the Bills, and I welcome that. Oh yeah,
- 19:50Speaker 1: I want that to happen because I want I want
- 19:53Speaker 1: to beat the Bills and just to say that two
- 19:56Speaker 1: out of three times and in the most important game
- 19:59Speaker 1: this year, we beat the We are truly now the
- 20:01Speaker 1: Kings of the East. To lose the game. If we
- 20:05Speaker 1: lose the game, then my silver lining is you're pissed off.
- 20:10Speaker 1: You realize that there's still work to do here, that
- 20:13Speaker 1: they still might have the edge we need to have
- 20:16Speaker 1: a productive offseason.
- 20:18Speaker 2: It would be a.
- 20:20Speaker 1: It would.
- 20:23Speaker 8: The Bills would have bragging rights, the fans would have
- 20:25Speaker 8: all the right to get back on us.
- 20:28Speaker 1: You know, there's still our daddy if it happens. In
- 20:31Speaker 1: the words of the great Patro Martinez, however, it gives
- 20:36Speaker 1: you that incentive like we still have work to do.
- 20:39Speaker 1: We have hope for the future, but we've got a
- 20:40Speaker 1: lot of work to do.
- 20:41Speaker 6: Would that not happen if they hosted Houston in the
- 20:44Speaker 6: AFC Championship game.
- 20:46Speaker 1: And lost, You mean, yeah, it would still. But but
- 20:49Speaker 1: I'm just talking about the Bills, Like, oh, but if
- 20:51Speaker 1: we lost the Bills, then what that's what that's what.
- 20:55Speaker 1: You use it as incentive, you use it as motivation.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I get what you're saying, would do that either way.
- 20:59Speaker 7: I would say that at the same time that this
- 21:01Speaker 7: feels like a precursor to me of what the playoffs
- 21:04Speaker 7: in the AFC are going to look like for the
- 21:05Speaker 7: foreseeable future, which is, you've got a bunch of good quarterbacks,
- 21:08Speaker 7: who's the healthiest team at the end of the season,
- 21:11Speaker 7: and who plays the best. It's not this power structure,
- 21:14Speaker 7: you know, where you have two or three quarterbacks kind
- 21:16Speaker 7: of dominating everything, and you know those are going to
- 21:18Speaker 7: be the teams in the AFC Championship every year. I
- 21:20Speaker 7: think the way this is all playing out right now
- 21:22Speaker 7: that Trevor Lawrence is going to be in the mix
- 21:24Speaker 7: every year, and Justin Herbert looks like he's going to
- 21:26Speaker 7: be in the mix every year.
- 21:27Speaker 1: About that, I mean, like Mahomes and Lamarin Burrow will
- 21:30Speaker 1: be back.
- 21:30Speaker 6: They're going to be back. Yeah, those guys Holmes will
- 21:33Speaker 6: I don't know about those guys will, but.
- 21:35Speaker 7: Do you think they just resume their place atop the
- 21:38Speaker 7: power structure and that's it, And Trevor Lawrence is going
- 21:40Speaker 7: to go back to another six eleven seasons.
- 21:43Speaker 6: But no, no, no, to you a point, I don't
- 21:46Speaker 6: think they're going to go from thirteen wins to six wins.
- 21:49Speaker 6: But I do think that Mahomes will be back and
- 21:53Speaker 6: they'll be that Kansas City is not done. I don't
- 21:57Speaker 6: really know what's going on in Baltimore. I don't know.
- 21:59Speaker 6: Like this stuff, I don't know intriguing to me.
- 22:01Speaker 3: I don't know if it's going to be Lamar in Baltimore,
- 22:03Speaker 3: but Lamar will be in the AFC and he will
- 22:05Speaker 3: be heard from.
- 22:07Speaker 6: Now if he leaves Baltimore, how do you know he
- 22:08Speaker 6: stays in the AFC Because there's not as many anything
- 22:11Speaker 6: dominates the NFC. There's not as many.
- 22:12Speaker 1: NFC landing spots on good teams. So I don't know
- 22:16Speaker 1: for sure about that one.
- 22:17Speaker 6: But I think what you'd have to hope is your
- 22:22Speaker 6: guy is one of those guys that's with Mahomes and
- 22:24Speaker 6: Allen and May that's always in the AFC Championship game.
- 22:29Speaker 6: That's what I think is coming is Drake May is
- 22:32Speaker 6: going to be one of those guys that's going to
- 22:33Speaker 6: be in the mix for the AFC Championship every year.
- 22:36Speaker 7: I believe the window is not closing for these guys,
- 22:39Speaker 7: but that the gap is narrowing and that these other
- 22:41Speaker 7: teams are starting to surge. I mean, you can only
- 22:44Speaker 7: stay on top for so long. I think Kansas City
- 22:47Speaker 7: would back times. So I think Kansas City is going
- 22:49Speaker 7: to be back and go fourteen and three.
- 22:50Speaker 6: I have my doubts about one thing I find really
- 22:53Speaker 6: interesting about this particular season and how odd it has been.
- 22:57Speaker 6: So the Broncos won eleven in a row, the Patriots
- 23:00Speaker 6: won ten in a row, those Texans are currently on
- 23:04Speaker 6: a nine game winning streak, and the Jags are currently
- 23:06Speaker 6: on an eight game winning streak. That just kind of
- 23:09Speaker 6: tells me it's an anomaly, because I don't think that happens.
- 23:13Speaker 6: I don't think teams have those kinds of winning streaks
- 23:15Speaker 6: every year. Maybe one team does. But four teams to
- 23:18Speaker 6: have won eight or more in a row in the
- 23:21Speaker 6: same season tells me that there's a little bit of
- 23:24Speaker 6: a difference in the Baltimore's and the Cincinnatis and the
- 23:28Speaker 6: Kansas Cities that have allowed these teams to rip off
- 23:30Speaker 6: some wins teams are down.
- 23:32Speaker 7: Can I go back to one thing real quick? Lamar
- 23:34Speaker 7: not on the Rainis I sure? This is the first
- 23:35Speaker 7: I've heard this positive?
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it's a possibility.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Not a big one, but possible. Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:41Speaker 3: It seems like the Harbaugh Lamar partnership is at a
- 23:47Speaker 3: impass I guess is that they figure it out. But
- 23:50Speaker 3: there's some stories about Lamar's focus, his you know, effort
- 23:57Speaker 3: behind the scenes playing, you know, doing the Kyler Murray
- 24:00Speaker 3: in a lot of video games, you know that sort
- 24:01Speaker 3: of thing. He lost a lot of weight, which was
- 24:04Speaker 3: strategic but then backfired because then he was hurt all year.
- 24:07Speaker 1: And like, you know, it just little things like that.
- 24:10Speaker 3: And you know, there's been some rumors connecting him maybe
- 24:13Speaker 3: to Vegas or to Miami, you.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Know, as potential landing spots. These are all just scuttle but.
- 24:22Speaker 6: It was probably going to go. But I think Evan's
- 24:24Speaker 6: stuff about Lamar Jackson just one.
- 24:28Speaker 1: It's one or the other. Could both?
- 24:29Speaker 6: I think I think both could go. I don't think
- 24:31Speaker 6: that both will go. I think Harbor might go. But
- 24:35Speaker 6: there was some questions about the future for Lamar in Baltimore.
- 24:39Speaker 6: I've been sort of all right, just kind of fall away.
- 24:42Speaker 6: I just think it's relevant for the playoff discussion that
- 24:45Speaker 6: we're talking about here.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Let's talk about the game on Sunday for what it's worth. Uh,
- 24:51Speaker 1: you know, I didn't think it was what did I
- 24:54Speaker 1: say the score was going to be? I think they
- 24:56Speaker 1: went handily, or you're talking about the Dolphins game.
- 25:00Speaker 6: I don't. I don't remember what your score was. I
- 25:02Speaker 6: was thirty three to six.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I was close this twenty eight seventeen. I wasn't close.
- 25:08Speaker 6: You were close close enough.
- 25:09Speaker 1: But I do like the way the Patriots handled that game.
- 25:12Speaker 1: They had the lull in the second quarter, but they
- 25:15Speaker 1: took care of business, and they go into the playoffs
- 25:18Speaker 1: with a lot of momentum. They go into the playoffs with,
- 25:22Speaker 1: you know, a running game that I'm not saying that
- 25:25Speaker 1: like a lot of people are saying the running game
- 25:27Speaker 1: is back. To me, it's still a little too inconsistent,
- 25:31Speaker 1: especially in short yard is Kevin Evan's got some status. Okay,
- 25:35Speaker 1: so we'll get into that. So I'm not all the
- 25:38Speaker 1: way there saying this is now a running team. No,
- 25:41Speaker 1: we're Drake May. We're going to go as far as
- 25:43Speaker 1: Drake May takes us. Uh, and as far as you know,
- 25:47Speaker 1: the defense, uh kind of gets his act together and
- 25:50Speaker 1: gets healthy. Uh that's going to be the key to
- 25:53Speaker 1: our success in the playoffs. But it was very, very
- 25:56Speaker 1: encouraging to see, you know, the whole last six or
- 26:00Speaker 1: seven games from Roman J. Stevenson. Trevian has really emerged
- 26:06Speaker 1: as a candidate for Rookie of the Year. That's really encouraging.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Explosive plays, I mean in the run game. I think
- 26:12Speaker 1: that's huge, you know.
- 26:13Speaker 7: I then I'll let you talk about the EPA numbers
- 26:15Speaker 7: of their run game, which have been really solid before
- 26:19Speaker 7: I get into my next point.
- 26:20Speaker 3: I mean, they're basically number one the last month or so,
- 26:23Speaker 3: they're number one in the league in every rushing stat
- 26:25Speaker 3: yards per carry, explosive run rate, EPA success rate, right
- 26:30Speaker 3: on down the line.
- 26:30Speaker 1: They're averaging how long I missed because it was last
- 26:33Speaker 1: month month.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Yeah, they're six point one yards of carry like posts
- 26:37Speaker 3: by over the last year since the Buffalo game. Now
- 26:40Speaker 3: they face some bad run defenses, you know, Buffalo, Jets,
- 26:43Speaker 3: Dolphins not great run defenses, but they're running the ball
- 26:47Speaker 3: a lot better. And I agree with Fred that they're
- 26:49Speaker 3: Drake May offense and he's going to take them. But
- 26:52Speaker 3: you need balance, especially this time of year. You need
- 26:55Speaker 3: to be able to run the ball. You're not going
- 26:57Speaker 3: to be able to go through the playoffs, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 3: three four games now to a super Bowl and not
- 27:03Speaker 3: get into a game where it's a little bit of
- 27:04Speaker 3: a rock fight and you got to find a way
- 27:06Speaker 3: to run the.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Ball and move it, lean a little to fred and
- 27:10Speaker 1: that sort of thing. Uh So can they do that?
- 27:13Speaker 3: I don't know, But I think what we're seeing a
- 27:16Speaker 3: lot more of is, you know, they're lighting in the
- 27:18Speaker 3: box a little bit. They're putting those two high safeties
- 27:20Speaker 3: over the top because of Drake and the Patriots have
- 27:23Speaker 3: gashed them on the ground. And if that continues, that's
- 27:26Speaker 3: that's the styles win fights of the playoffs.
- 27:28Speaker 6: Sometimes those chaps Buffalo, But on this last month they've
- 27:35Speaker 6: had I don't know, at least a half dozen if
- 27:39Speaker 6: not more, just explosive runs. I'm not talking about fifteen.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I'm talking you know, that's the whole point of the
- 27:47Speaker 1: They had running the ball, two.
- 27:49Speaker 6: Of them in this game, but he only had seven carries.
- 27:52Speaker 6: Two of them went for more than forty years. Can
- 27:55Speaker 6: you to me, it's a little like those defenses like
- 27:59Speaker 6: the Jacksonville d defense feasts on turnovers, which is great.
- 28:03Speaker 6: Who would say, like, well, we don't want to take
- 28:05Speaker 6: the ball away as a defense, except for what happens
- 28:07Speaker 6: when you don't. So can they run the ball to
- 28:10Speaker 6: Fred's point on third and one and the other team's
- 28:14Speaker 6: ready for you.
- 28:14Speaker 1: They don't have what Evan's talking.
- 28:16Speaker 6: About with a too high look and you know, trying
- 28:19Speaker 6: to take away the explosive plays from Drake May, but
- 28:21Speaker 6: they're ready to stop the run.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Can you move the pile and get a yard?
- 28:25Speaker 6: Can you get in the red zone like they did
- 28:27Speaker 6: on Sunday and.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Push it in?
- 28:31Speaker 6: Then I will say run game.
- 28:35Speaker 3: That's just the best offenses are balanced like if you
- 28:38Speaker 3: if you can't.
- 28:39Speaker 1: And it's not about volume.
- 28:40Speaker 3: It's not about going into a game and saying we're
- 28:42Speaker 3: going to run it forty times. No, it's about this
- 28:44Speaker 3: is the chess match and if these this is how
- 28:46Speaker 3: teams are going to defend them. And they're going to
- 28:48Speaker 3: try to double digs, which they did a lot in
- 28:50Speaker 3: this game, and they're going to try to put the
- 28:52Speaker 3: safeties over the top to take away.
- 28:54Speaker 1: The deep ball.
- 28:54Speaker 3: I'm with it, you know, And they're going to play
- 28:56Speaker 3: a lot of soft zone, which is what Miami did
- 28:58Speaker 3: and you know eighty percent of the game they played
- 28:59Speaker 3: in zone. If these are the buttons that everybody is
- 29:02Speaker 3: going to push, the counter punch is to run the ball.
- 29:06Speaker 3: And if you can run it, and maybe not at
- 29:08Speaker 3: a high volume, but you can run it for chunks,
- 29:11Speaker 3: then that can really help you balance out the offense.
- 29:13Speaker 3: And now they have to they change is the other way, like,
- 29:16Speaker 3: are we going to put another hat in the box?
- 29:18Speaker 3: Are we going to play more man like? How are
- 29:20Speaker 3: we going to combat that? And that opens up everything else.
- 29:23Speaker 6: I think that's why when we do a postgame show,
- 29:25Speaker 6: Mike does a segment where it's, you know, something to
- 29:28Speaker 6: build off of, and it's it's absolutely Remondre Stevenson's last
- 29:32Speaker 6: month of the season. You know that to me travels
- 29:36Speaker 6: into the into the playoffs. That is going to be
- 29:39Speaker 6: effective in good weather or bad. Obviously, in the back
- 29:43Speaker 6: of your mind you wonder about you worry about ball security,
- 29:46Speaker 6: but it's been a long time since that's been an issue.
- 29:49Speaker 6: He's been ridiculously productive. If that continues, all the stuff
- 29:53Speaker 6: that Evan's talking about is there for the offense, and
- 29:55Speaker 6: now you're talking about thirty eight points, forty two points. Sorry,
- 30:00Speaker 6: if they score in the mid mid thirties, they're not
- 30:03Speaker 6: going to lose. They're not going to lose to these teams.
- 30:06Speaker 6: And if they can get that kind of production, and
- 30:08Speaker 6: I think if you can run the ball like that,
- 30:11Speaker 6: you're going to have that kind of production, because Drake
- 30:13Speaker 6: has been so efficient that he only needs twenty twenty
- 30:16Speaker 6: two passes.
- 30:17Speaker 3: To have a productive get their play actions in this game,
- 30:20Speaker 3: they had the flea flicker and like you know, these
- 30:22Speaker 3: are the things that all happen off of having some
- 30:24Speaker 3: semblance of a running game. And if you get into
- 30:27Speaker 3: the playoffs and you get one dimensional and you're dropping
- 30:29Speaker 3: back forty forty five times in a game, you don't
- 30:32Speaker 3: want to play like that, especially not against these defense.
- 30:34Speaker 1: And context, to me in football means everything, especially when
- 30:38Speaker 1: you're talking about these stats. The context. And I'll good
- 30:41Speaker 1: example the whole MVP race between Stafford and Drake Stafford.
- 30:48Speaker 1: You know, in terms as far as Paul and I,
- 30:51Speaker 1: Stafford has better stats, And a lot of people hold
- 30:55Speaker 1: the schedule against Drake may Well, he's played a weaker
- 30:58Speaker 1: schedule than Stafford. Ever, somebody on x I forget who
- 31:02Speaker 1: it was is one of the ballnoer stats. People said, yes,
- 31:07Speaker 1: he's had a week of schedule, but a lot of
- 31:09Speaker 1: the teams that he played May had good past defenses.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Even though their record wasn't good, their past defense was
- 31:18Speaker 1: good and and May still performed.
- 31:21Speaker 6: I don't know what that means, but I guess I'm
- 31:23Speaker 6: just confused as to like, so touchdowns, that's the only
- 31:26Speaker 6: thing that we based MVP off of, Like you can
- 31:29Speaker 6: base it off anything you want, because.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Well, May has them be in every other category. So
- 31:33Speaker 1: I'm trying to figure out.
- 31:33Speaker 6: What I'm saying is, if you're a voter, you can
- 31:36Speaker 6: determine what you think is no no.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Defense, You've got an easy win. More yards, right, he
- 31:44Speaker 1: has more passing yards, doesn't have more total yards? Okay, Okay, Drake,
- 31:48Speaker 1: that's true. No, listen, I think Drake should be m
- 31:50Speaker 1: v P. And I'm making the article. A lot of
- 31:53Speaker 1: people held the schedule against Drake, but this this analyst,
- 31:57Speaker 1: uh you know again, content I said, a lot of
- 32:00Speaker 1: those had strong pass defense.
- 32:03Speaker 6: I just don't really understand what that means, and like
- 32:06Speaker 6: they're a bad team.
- 32:07Speaker 8: And May performed in those games when the running game
- 32:10Speaker 8: wasn't as good. As it is now.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I just think I hear what you're saying. I
- 32:14Speaker 3: think that with the now we're kind of pivoting back
- 32:17Speaker 3: to the MVP thing. But I think with the MVP thing,
- 32:19Speaker 3: I do think that we're getting really lost in the
- 32:22Speaker 3: sauce with the strength of schedule thing, and we're like
- 32:25Speaker 3: kind of treating this like it's like college football, where
- 32:28Speaker 3: like some weeks you're going up against teams that are like,
- 32:32Speaker 3: you know, it's Alabama versus like, you know, Farris State
- 32:36Speaker 3: or something like that. Like Drake said, it's not We're
- 32:38Speaker 3: not playing Foxborough High School right like, so it is
- 32:41Speaker 3: still kind of it's still pro football like, and this
- 32:44Speaker 3: is still the NFL.
- 32:45Speaker 1: And I think that a lot of a lot of these.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Waitings that I'm seeing in terms of strength to schedule
- 32:49Speaker 3: is like really heavily discounting the Patriots' success because of
- 32:53Speaker 3: the schedule. And I'm like, at the end of the day,
- 32:55Speaker 3: these they are all still professional football players. Like, I
- 32:57Speaker 3: hear what you're saying that it is a factor, but
- 33:00Speaker 3: it seems like it's a big fact.
- 33:02Speaker 7: This is I'm just going to make a quick point
- 33:04Speaker 7: of that, and I totally agree, and I'm so sick
- 33:05Speaker 7: of this conversation.
- 33:06Speaker 1: But at the same time, like, this is.
- 33:08Speaker 7: Historically easy schedule, So I think it's it's it's not
- 33:10Speaker 7: just like, well, they had an easy schedule, like by
- 33:12Speaker 7: the most metrics, this was a very, very standout easy
- 33:16Speaker 7: schedule in the history of easy schedules. So I get it,
- 33:19Speaker 7: it's the NFL. But at the same time, that's why
- 33:21Speaker 7: it comes up a lot. It is a historically easy
- 33:23Speaker 7: skit is.
- 33:24Speaker 6: And I'm not even talking about the schedule because I
- 33:26Speaker 6: agree with the way Evan just put that. And I've
- 33:28Speaker 6: said this a lot like that there is no homecoming game.
- 33:31Speaker 6: I mean, I know that they're really bad teams, but
- 33:33Speaker 6: they're all NFL.
- 33:34Speaker 1: That Jets games kind of No.
- 33:35Speaker 6: I know this one was too, you know, like they
- 33:38Speaker 6: all the starters didn't play from Miami too, you were
- 33:40Speaker 6: playing all backups. I get that where I think that
- 33:44Speaker 6: it kind of it's not necessarily how we played against
- 33:48Speaker 6: bad teams. I just I do think that you have
- 33:52Speaker 6: a luxury afforded when you only have to throw the
- 33:55Speaker 6: ball twenty times because the team's so bad that I'm
- 33:58Speaker 6: going to brack up these numbers. And I think that
- 34:00Speaker 6: kind of you know, how many games has he had
- 34:04Speaker 6: that he's thrown less. I wish, I wish I had
- 34:06Speaker 6: the number, But I feel like he's thrown fewer than
- 34:08Speaker 6: twenty five passes in the game, like ten times. Like
- 34:11Speaker 6: that helps those EPA numbers, That helps those yards per
- 34:15Speaker 6: attent numbers. When you're able to complete passes with a
- 34:18Speaker 6: small a small number, that's why you complete seventy two
- 34:20Speaker 6: percent or whatever he completed. And if you look, and
- 34:23Speaker 6: I actually did look this up, the all tie I
- 34:26Speaker 6: think I think Mays was fourth highest of all time
- 34:29Speaker 6: the completion rate completion percent in six okay, And I
- 34:33Speaker 6: looked at all the guys that finished ahead of them.
- 34:35Speaker 6: They're all similar in attempts, So which told me that's
- 34:39Speaker 6: the secret, Hush, you don't want to throw the ball
- 34:41Speaker 6: forty five times and expect to complete seventy three percent
- 34:44Speaker 6: of your passes.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I think the.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Biggest thing with the completion rate, if we want to
- 34:47Speaker 3: poke holes and that is that he runs. And he
- 34:50Speaker 3: did take a lot of sacks to start the year,
- 34:52Speaker 3: so like those are not.
- 34:54Speaker 6: Incompletion right right, like when it's right, that's That's kind
- 34:57Speaker 6: of what I'm getting at. So even if the team
- 34:59Speaker 6: is so bad that you're able to get the lead,
- 35:02Speaker 6: you know, against the Cleveland or a Tennessee or you
- 35:05Speaker 6: know these these weak in Atlanta, you know, these teams
- 35:08Speaker 6: that have quote good pass defenses.
- 35:10Speaker 1: They stink.
- 35:12Speaker 6: The team stinks, so you're able to get complete control
- 35:15Speaker 6: of the game without having to throw the ball forty times. Now,
- 35:17Speaker 6: I'm not comparing it to Stafford again because I think
- 35:21Speaker 6: if you want to get down and break all this
- 35:23Speaker 6: stuff down, the argument against Stafford is much easier to
- 35:27Speaker 6: make with Pooka and the Coop, you know, catching seventeen
- 35:30Speaker 6: hundred worth, seventeen hundred yards worth of passes and making
- 35:33Speaker 6: a one hand touchdown catch every single day to them, like,
- 35:37Speaker 6: May doesn't have that of That's why May is my pick.
- 35:40Speaker 6: I've seen him do it with basically Stefan Diggs and
- 35:44Speaker 6: a bunch of other guys, and he doesn't have anywhere
- 35:48Speaker 6: near the amount of options to go to that Stafford has.
- 35:52Speaker 6: That pains me. You guys know this. I love Stafford. Yeah,
- 35:55Speaker 6: and he had a great year, but May's was better.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that.
- 35:58Speaker 3: You know, we're getting to the point now where it
- 36:01Speaker 3: does feel like the MVP is you know, the nerds
- 36:04Speaker 3: are saying it's May. The film watchers are saying it's May,
- 36:08Speaker 3: but maybe pretty close, right.
- 36:09Speaker 1: It really kind of a toss up.
- 36:11Speaker 3: And then it's like the other people that are like, well,
- 36:13Speaker 3: he's thirty seven and he's the life, and like May
- 36:17Speaker 3: will have his chance and like all that.
- 36:19Speaker 6: I don't like that. I don't like that him. That
- 36:22Speaker 6: bothers me.
- 36:22Speaker 1: But the one thing that argument I really kind of
- 36:26Speaker 1: lean toward is if you swapped them, if May went
- 36:29Speaker 1: to the Rams and Stafford came here, everything else is
- 36:32Speaker 1: the same. May would have more success because Stafford wouldn't
- 36:37Speaker 1: have the protection.
- 36:37Speaker 6: By put but by by what? By record, there's no
- 36:41Speaker 6: chance the Pagets wouldn't be fourteen and three with Stafford
- 36:43Speaker 6: as their at their quarterback. I think record and his numbers,
- 36:49Speaker 6: I don't think he would have the same numbers that
- 36:51Speaker 6: he had in the Rams. They wouldn't have forty six touchdowns.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Or whatever he threw.
- 36:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't think they would be maybe fourteen and three. Fred,
- 37:01Speaker 6: there's a bad schedule they played. They wouldn't be losing
- 37:04Speaker 6: to all these teams.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Well, well, you're you're probably right, but I don't think that.
- 37:09Speaker 1: I think May would might even do better than he's
- 37:13Speaker 1: doing now with the rams, with.
- 37:15Speaker 6: All that, With all that, I think you could make
- 37:16Speaker 6: a strong argument.
- 37:17Speaker 1: For that, with all that talent. Think it's really hard
- 37:20Speaker 1: you could make an argument for that.
- 37:22Speaker 3: I think now are really projecting, Like I think it's
- 37:24Speaker 3: hard to say, Like what would they look like in
- 37:25Speaker 3: the difference?
- 37:26Speaker 1: You don't think they would know what to do with uh,
- 37:29Speaker 1: of course he would, But John McVay would know how
- 37:31Speaker 1: to do a lot with a lot of quarterbacks. Like
- 37:34Speaker 1: that's kind of the point.
- 37:35Speaker 6: You don't think Josh would have success with an experienced
- 37:37Speaker 6: quarterback like Stafford.
- 37:38Speaker 8: He would have success, but you don't have the line
- 37:40Speaker 8: that you know, like, what would he do when they
- 37:42Speaker 8: break down?
- 37:43Speaker 1: Stafford can't run?
- 37:44Speaker 8: He no?
- 37:45Speaker 6: Is that not true?
- 37:46Speaker 1: What the line has been good? It's been better, much better.
- 37:50Speaker 1: I'm writing something he told me. But Drake may just
- 37:54Speaker 1: can't stand back there with all day. You know, he's
- 37:56Speaker 1: he's got to sometimes improvise and make his own time.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Throw to Diggs on Sunday on the one that put
- 38:03Speaker 3: Digs over a thousand, Ben Brown and Garrett Bradbury get
- 38:06Speaker 3: blown by on the line of scrimmage, and he has
- 38:09Speaker 3: two Miami defenders coming right at him and he just sidesteps,
- 38:13Speaker 3: does his little skip and rip, steps up in the pocket,
- 38:16Speaker 3: makes it look and throws it and he almost he
- 38:19Speaker 3: almost overthrew him.
- 38:20Speaker 1: It was like really close.
- 38:21Speaker 3: But the you know, those types of plays, you know,
- 38:25Speaker 3: are are making a huge difference for this team. And
- 38:28Speaker 3: if I had to like make a cutup of may
- 38:31Speaker 3: highlights of why he's the MVP, it would probably not
- 38:36Speaker 3: be all the downfield bombs to Kaysehan Boody and Kyle
- 38:39Speaker 3: Williams because he's just standing there in the pocket and
- 38:42Speaker 3: making the throw. It would be those types of plays
- 38:45Speaker 3: where he's moving around the pocket and not necessarily scrambling
- 38:49Speaker 3: or going completely off script, but just moving subtly in
- 38:53Speaker 3: the pocket to keep himself protected and then keeping his
- 38:56Speaker 3: eyes down the field and making throws down the field,
- 38:58Speaker 3: you know, off platform. Like those types of plays are
- 39:01Speaker 3: the types of plays that quarterbacks that don't have his
- 39:04Speaker 3: physical skill set they can't make. And so those are
- 39:07Speaker 3: sacks for eight out of ten quarterbacks. It's like him
- 39:10Speaker 3: and Allan and probably the guy they're playing on Sunday
- 39:13Speaker 3: night that turns that into a thirty four yard completion.
- 39:16Speaker 3: And so the difference between that being an eight yard
- 39:19Speaker 3: sack and a thirty four yard completion is how you have,
- 39:21Speaker 3: you know, the Patriots offense.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Right right.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Back to the game. I think the Patriots you want
- 39:29Speaker 1: to clean up some things before you get into this,
- 39:32Speaker 1: and one of them is the officiating. I hope that
- 39:34Speaker 1: they sent that video of the Hunter Henry. You know,
- 39:38Speaker 1: I didn't care for the PI. That was a terrible
- 39:41Speaker 1: call and we got to get that straightened out before we,
- 39:44Speaker 1: you know, get to Sunday night with the league, you know.
- 39:48Speaker 7: Kind of I just wanted to highlight this through a
- 39:51Speaker 7: tweet by Mike Reese, the normally even keeled Mike Greese,
- 39:54Speaker 7: who tweeted in the first half the Patriots defense not
- 39:56Speaker 7: playoff ready.
- 39:58Speaker 1: What did you guys think of that from Mike Reese?
- 40:00Speaker 1: And uh, did you agree? Because I was. I I
- 40:04Speaker 1: kind of feel like the defense is gonna have to
- 40:05Speaker 1: pull a New Year Day, kept it up all the
- 40:07Speaker 1: game like that. I would agree, but I think they
- 40:10Speaker 1: righted it. Listen there, that's kind of their Achilles right now,
- 40:15Speaker 1: the Achilles heel. Hopefully Spelane comes back, Landry comes back,
- 40:20Speaker 1: Tonga comes back, and they're a little bit more healthy
- 40:24Speaker 1: going into this game Sunday night.
- 40:26Speaker 8: But yeah, that if they lose, it's gonna be because yeah,
- 40:32Speaker 8: they're letting it's too easy for the other team.
- 40:34Speaker 7: I just think so much of this game will depend
- 40:36Speaker 7: on pressure, you know, and especially early in the game.
- 40:40Speaker 7: But is herol Lander gonna have some juice off the edge?
- 40:42Speaker 7: Like can you take advantage of the Chargers weakness at tackle?
- 40:46Speaker 7: And you know a lot of the games they lost
- 40:48Speaker 7: this year you just see obscene pressure rates.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Can the Patriots generate that?
- 40:52Speaker 7: And I mean every conversation begins with what you just said, Fred,
- 40:55Speaker 7: if they can get X, Y and Z back and
- 40:58Speaker 7: they can return to the form that we saw them
- 40:59Speaker 7: play three months ago. So you know, that to me
- 41:02Speaker 7: is just again And it didn't help looking back at
- 41:05Speaker 7: that Charger game last year where it's just ten.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Play drive eleven play drive.
- 41:09Speaker 7: You know, and there are some of the same person game.
- 41:13Speaker 7: I'm gonna spook myself.
- 41:14Speaker 1: That's how I do it. Take that game and throw
- 41:16Speaker 1: it in the trash can. But what about the.
- 41:18Speaker 7: People who say, well, the Chargers got to come the
- 41:20Speaker 7: come East, they can't play in the cold. They played
- 41:22Speaker 7: in December and four, whether they did fine, they did fine,
- 41:25Speaker 7: I would.
- 41:26Speaker 6: Dis miss both of those comments. Like last year's game,
- 41:29Speaker 6: anything that happened last year really doesn't have any relevance
- 41:33Speaker 6: to me. First of all, they completely turned the roster over.
- 41:35Speaker 6: They're all different players, and they were playing out the
- 41:40Speaker 6: string last year that might have been rock bottom that
- 41:42Speaker 6: particularly game. Plus I got a flat tire after the game.
- 41:45Speaker 1: These are all tough guys. I think it's funny that
- 41:49Speaker 1: this is what does every time that game like three
- 41:52Speaker 1: years ago.
- 41:54Speaker 6: You want to talk about what's happened this year, you know, like.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Justin Herbert lighting up the Patriots and Fox remember.
- 42:00Speaker 6: Last year it is. I'm sorry it is, And I'm
- 42:04Speaker 6: I'm the guy on this show that's worried about more
- 42:06Speaker 6: things than anybody, right, I do not worry about the
- 42:08Speaker 6: performance from last year. If he comes here and lights
- 42:11Speaker 6: them up, it's going to be like he's playing against
- 42:14Speaker 6: a new, entirely different defense. So hats off to him
- 42:18Speaker 6: if he does. And I'm not dismissing it now. I
- 42:20Speaker 6: think they have three fairly good options of receiver. I
- 42:24Speaker 6: think they have a good young tight end. I think
- 42:25Speaker 6: they have a running back who's pretty fresh because he's
- 42:30Speaker 6: he missed a good chunk of the year, so I
- 42:33Speaker 6: think they have some problems.
- 42:34Speaker 7: So what you're saying, I just say the relevance to
- 42:37Speaker 7: me is just is an example of what happens when
- 42:41Speaker 7: you don't get pressure on Justin Herbert. And I know
- 42:43Speaker 7: what you're saying that Patriots probably playing out the string
- 42:45Speaker 7: and they're not trying to get to the quarterback as
- 42:46Speaker 7: hard as they're going to be maybe trying to get
- 42:48Speaker 7: after him in a playoff game.
- 42:50Speaker 1: But you know, I take the whole the player in.
- 42:52Speaker 7: This is who the player is, and this is what
- 42:53Speaker 7: he is capable of doing with a lot of the
- 42:55Speaker 7: same pieces that he'll have this Yea.
- 42:57Speaker 3: I just watched him two weeks ago against Dallas and
- 42:59Speaker 3: I can tell he's I mean, he's a.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Good he's a really good player.
- 43:02Speaker 6: There's very similarities between these two teams. And I think
- 43:05Speaker 6: there's a lot of similarities between the two quarterbacks.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Even against Houston, Like Houston's got guys draped all over
- 43:10Speaker 3: him and he's completing back.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I mean, he's Justin Herbert. He's awesome. Yeah, he's great.
- 43:14Speaker 6: I give was it forty to seven that game last year?
- 43:17Speaker 6: I give that the same amount of relevance as I
- 43:19Speaker 6: do I believe that they be justin Herbert forty three
- 43:21Speaker 6: to nothing at one point in San Diego his rookie year,
- 43:24Speaker 6: or in La wherever the game was like, yeah, zero
- 43:28Speaker 6: relevance both games.
- 43:30Speaker 1: One other thing I want to bring up before we
- 43:32Speaker 1: get to the emailers and callers is you know, just
- 43:36Speaker 1: the vibe in the locker room of this team and
- 43:39Speaker 1: you know what we see as you know, really great
- 43:42Speaker 1: camaraderie and chemistry and what Campbell Will Campbell said recently
- 43:49Speaker 1: just to was it yesterday or two days ago Sunday
- 43:52Speaker 1: about playing here and that he hasn't had this much
- 43:55Speaker 1: fun playing football since high school. A lot of people
- 43:58Speaker 1: told him it's not going to be as good as
- 43:59Speaker 1: colleg you know, and like he's he said that that
- 44:02Speaker 1: was bs and he hopes that he never has to
- 44:05Speaker 1: play for any other coach or team than this team.
- 44:08Speaker 1: He said, So here's a young kid who comes in
- 44:12Speaker 1: and feels that way. You know, is it just you know,
- 44:16Speaker 1: gobbley goop or like, is there something.
- 44:17Speaker 2: To know it?
- 44:18Speaker 1: Just it makes sense to me.
- 44:19Speaker 7: Just I mean, this was one of the things in
- 44:21Speaker 7: the spring that when you saw Will Campbell and kind
- 44:23Speaker 7: of got a vibe from Will Camblelly like, this is
- 44:25Speaker 7: a mic Raabel guy. I mean, and you know, I
- 44:27Speaker 7: kind of related to Taylor Lwan, similar left tackle, kind
- 44:30Speaker 7: of kind of personality guy. And no, not surprising at all,
- 44:33Speaker 7: but I mean I love that.
- 44:35Speaker 1: So we all we got, we all we need? Is
- 44:36Speaker 1: that enough to propel you to some wins during this
- 44:40Speaker 1: playoff run? If they're healthy? I mean, I think the
- 44:42Speaker 1: right pieces. I think that was probably the biggest positive.
- 44:47Speaker 3: You know, I talked a lot about the run game
- 44:48Speaker 3: and after further review, but Will Campbell and Milton Williams
- 44:51Speaker 3: looking like Will Campbell and Milton Williams was a really
- 44:54Speaker 3: good sign. And I thought Will Campbell was really good
- 44:57Speaker 3: in this game and didn't look rusty pretty much at all,
- 45:00Speaker 3: except maybe the very first pass set of the game.
- 45:02Speaker 1: He kind of got blown back, but I'll give him grace.
- 45:04Speaker 3: It was his first pass set in five weeks in
- 45:06Speaker 3: an NFL game. But other than that, I thought he
- 45:09Speaker 3: was really good in this game. And I thought Milon
- 45:11Speaker 3: Williams immediately came back and presence was felt. You know there,
- 45:16Speaker 3: you know, tackle for loss in the run game, sliding
- 45:19Speaker 3: the protection his way, giving Barmore one on ones on
- 45:21Speaker 3: his sack like, you know, just right away again you
- 45:24Speaker 3: have those two guys in the middle just wreaking have it,
- 45:27Speaker 3: you know, talking about the pressure on Herbert, I don't
- 45:30Speaker 3: know if the pressure is going to come from the edges,
- 45:32Speaker 3: but can they get bar Moore and Milton Williams rolling
- 45:35Speaker 3: up the middle and try to push that pocket, then
- 45:37Speaker 3: I think that maybe you can affect Herbert that way.
- 45:40Speaker 3: So it was really good to see both those guys
- 45:43Speaker 3: look not really limited in any sort of way. You know,
- 45:47Speaker 3: Milton Williams didn't play a ton, but they pulled the
- 45:49Speaker 3: starters in the fourth quarter and you know, look the
- 45:53Speaker 3: part and I think if you're optimistic about it, like
- 45:56Speaker 3: that's what you need to hope. You need to hope
- 45:58Speaker 3: that everybody that's been banged comes back for the playoffs
- 46:01Speaker 3: is one hundred percent. And the team that you know
- 46:04Speaker 3: be Buffalo in Week five is the team that's going
- 46:06Speaker 3: to take the field on Sunday night.

- 46:55Speaker 8: the hotline podcast at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 47:00Speaker 1: I guess we can open up the phones. I know
- 47:02Speaker 1: people have been holding on. The phones are all stacked up.
- 47:06Speaker 1: We'll start with Anthony in Seattle. What's that Anthony? Hey?
- 47:10Speaker 3: What's up my people?
- 47:11Speaker 6: How y'all doing?
- 47:12Speaker 1: Hey?
- 47:13Speaker 9: Okay, a long time no talk. I hope you hope
- 47:16Speaker 9: guys have happy holidays and all that good stuff. I'm
- 47:19Speaker 9: gonna be quick today because I know the phones are
- 47:20Speaker 9: busy and we're all excited, but man, what a season.
- 47:23Speaker 6: Man.
- 47:23Speaker 10: I'm just Paul.
- 47:24Speaker 9: I know we're not allowed to be proud, but I'm
- 47:26Speaker 9: so proud.
- 47:27Speaker 10: Of the scene.
- 47:28Speaker 9: I got my I ordered my AFP East Champs T shirt.
- 47:32Speaker 9: I almost didn't because it's not going to get here
- 47:34Speaker 9: till next week. And I thought, man, we could potentially
- 47:36Speaker 9: be out of the playoffs.
- 47:37Speaker 10: I hope hopefully not, but we could potentially be out
- 47:39Speaker 10: of the playoff.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Sport to rise.
- 47:40Speaker 9: But then I just had to step back and think
- 47:42Speaker 9: and go no, no matter what happens from this point on,
- 47:46Speaker 9: we took We took the division title from prime Josh
- 47:50Speaker 9: Allen like, I'm just I'm so happy. I just got
- 47:52Speaker 9: one more goalpost to move and uh and so I
- 47:57Speaker 9: asked for a win season. You know, they to split
- 48:00Speaker 9: with Miami and split with Buffalo. If you're gonna start
- 48:02Speaker 9: becoming a good team, you can't let anybody sweep you,
- 48:05Speaker 9: no matter how much better they might be. So obviously
- 48:07Speaker 9: they check those boxes.
- 48:08Speaker 10: I moved to go post.
- 48:09Speaker 9: Again after the buye. I just said I want them
- 48:11Speaker 9: to split those two games between Baltimore and Buffalo, and
- 48:15Speaker 9: then finished strong. They check those boxes. The five and
- 48:17Speaker 9: one of the division division title fourteen win season, the
- 48:21Speaker 9: one last thing I would like to see them do
- 48:23Speaker 9: if they can beat the Chargers either way, I'm satisfied,
- 48:26Speaker 9: but you know, it would be somewhat of a disappointment
- 48:29Speaker 9: to go to win fourteen games and go wane and
- 48:31Speaker 9: done in the playoffs. So we can get a playoff
- 48:33Speaker 9: win under Drake May's belt, I could not ask for
- 48:37Speaker 9: anything else from the twenty twenty five Patriots.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Anthony, sounds good.
- 48:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the season's already a success, but it
- 48:44Speaker 3: can't be understated how massive.
- 48:46Speaker 1: It would be to win a playoff game.
- 48:47Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, just for the whole for Drake May,
- 48:50Speaker 3: for Mike Rable, the whole regime, everything they've built. It
- 48:53Speaker 3: would feel somewhat emptier if they sure were one and
- 48:57Speaker 3: done in the playoffs.
- 48:58Speaker 1: So I think it'd mean a lot. As in New Jersey,
- 49:00Speaker 1: Hey Dan, Yeah, Hey, guys, comment about the game.
- 49:07Speaker 10: But first I'd just like to say, you know, been
- 49:10Speaker 10: watching Drake play that position. There's certainly an ease and
- 49:14Speaker 10: a fulidityless game, whether it's throwing on the run or
- 49:17Speaker 10: running on the you know, running to avoid the sack.
- 49:20Speaker 10: You might say he plays with a certain elegance. You
- 49:24Speaker 10: might even say grace. I think it might be nowhere
- 49:28Speaker 10: I'm going with this. How do you feel about Drake
- 49:30Speaker 10: amazing grace.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Yeah, no, sorry, Dan, Okay, okay, okay, all right, is
- 49:39Speaker 1: that it?
- 49:40Speaker 10: But no, well, no, I wanted to ask because you know,
- 49:43Speaker 10: I'll tell you. I know you've been talking about watching
- 49:46Speaker 10: tape from what this year? What about two years ago?
- 49:50Speaker 10: Is there anything to be gleaned off of the game,
- 49:52Speaker 10: whereas I think it was six nothing. But I've been
- 49:55Speaker 10: watching a lot of take from the going back to
- 49:58Speaker 10: the sixty three after title game, all two minutes of it.
- 50:04Speaker 1: I have not watched they just played last year.
- 50:07Speaker 3: I have not watched a second of any recent Chargers
- 50:10Speaker 3: Patriots games. I think that they have zero idalidity.
- 50:13Speaker 6: Was the Patriots whole roster, the staff completely different, all
- 50:19Speaker 6: the almost all the coaches are completely different. Different offensive system,
- 50:23Speaker 6: different defensive system.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Yeah, this is all new, Dan, It's all new.
- 50:27Speaker 2: Thanks for the call.
- 50:28Speaker 6: And I do think the teams play very similar styles.
- 50:32Speaker 6: I think they want to play the same kind of way.
- 50:34Speaker 6: I think maybe the the Chargers are a little bit
- 50:37Speaker 6: more committed to the run than the Patriots have been.
- 50:41Speaker 6: But I think they want to be physical, they want
- 50:42Speaker 6: to sort of be balanced offensively, they want to play
- 50:45Speaker 6: good defense, and you know, they don't want to win
- 50:48Speaker 6: forty one thirty eight. You know, some teams get real
- 50:52Speaker 6: comfortable in those situations. The Chargers don't really.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Want to do that.
- 50:55Speaker 6: They want to possess the ball, Yeah, that's for sure.
- 50:57Speaker 6: And there I think they're second in the league and
- 50:59Speaker 6: second league.
- 51:00Speaker 3: They don't run the ball as much as you think. Uh,
- 51:02Speaker 3: they only run the ball thirty seven percent of the time,
- 51:04Speaker 3: is twenty seventh in the NFL.
- 51:06Speaker 6: So they have surprised to see that number. I know
- 51:09Speaker 6: that they've been kind of they just can't block offensive line.
- 51:12Speaker 3: So you know, they they're very good on third down. Uh,
- 51:16Speaker 3: they are very good at staying on the field. They
- 51:18Speaker 3: they chew clock. They're one of those types of their
- 51:21Speaker 3: Jim Harbaugh team. You know that that's how they play.
- 51:24Speaker 3: Their defense is really good. Their defense has been really
- 51:27Speaker 3: good all year. You know, they don't give up a
- 51:30Speaker 3: lot of big plays, a really good pass defense, really
- 51:33Speaker 3: exotic in the way that they cover, which we can
- 51:35Speaker 3: talk about I'm sure all week. And you know they
- 51:38Speaker 3: have their deep right now, they're justin Herbert, just enough
- 51:42Speaker 3: of him and a really good defense like that. That's
- 51:44Speaker 3: really what's keeping them afloat. Is Herbert doing Herbert things,
- 51:50Speaker 3: and their defense is top ten in pretty much everything.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Is this the best defense they Patriots have played this year?
- 51:58Speaker 3: It's the best defense that has as an offense that
- 52:00Speaker 3: can you know, somewhat match it, you know, like Cleveland's
- 52:03Speaker 3: probably the best defense that they've played, but Cleveland's offense
- 52:06Speaker 3: is obviously a train wreck.
- 52:07Speaker 1: So, uh, it's a good defense. It's it's really good.
- 52:11Speaker 1: They run a lot of quarters coverage, they run a
- 52:13Speaker 1: lot of match zone.
- 52:15Speaker 3: They're doing all the different things that like all of
- 52:17Speaker 3: us film nerds get all hot and bothered by. You know,
- 52:20Speaker 3: it's a lot of different types of match zones and
- 52:23Speaker 3: things like that, and it's it's tough. It can be
- 52:26Speaker 3: tough to to get guys open against it.
- 52:29Speaker 1: All right, Sam's in North Carolina? Hey, Sam, Sam? Sam?
- 52:38Speaker 1: Sam Green eggs Nope, Okay, he's out. Josh in the
- 52:44Speaker 1: Bog says, Paul's out of his mind if he thinks
- 52:46Speaker 1: May didn't win us a single game this year, we
- 52:47Speaker 1: wouldn't have won the division with Stafford. When did I
- 52:52Speaker 1: say that May didn't win us a game? Well, he's saying, well,
- 52:54Speaker 1: he's saying that if you had Stafford.
- 52:56Speaker 6: But that's not saying that you don't have made that's
- 52:58Speaker 6: saying you have someone who's neck and neck.
- 53:01Speaker 1: With Drake May for MVP. No, but what he's saying
- 53:03Speaker 1: is May, I'm not.
- 53:04Speaker 6: Telling you any stiff quarterback would have won fourteen games.
- 53:07Speaker 6: I'm saying the possible MVP would have won.
- 53:09Speaker 1: For what he's saying is you wouldn't have won as
- 53:11Speaker 1: many games with Stafford.
- 53:14Speaker 6: Okay, but that's his opinion. But I didn't say that
- 53:15Speaker 6: they wouldn't have won like May didn't win him any games.
- 53:19Speaker 6: That's not the same thing. Like there's two guys that.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Are up for MVP.
- 53:25Speaker 6: I think if you flipped them, the team's records would
- 53:27Speaker 6: be the same. That's not the same as saying that
- 53:29Speaker 6: they didn't win any games.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not.
- 53:32Speaker 6: I'm sorry, it's not the same argument. But but what
- 53:35Speaker 6: May have that's absurd.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Would Stafford have won as many games for the team
- 53:39Speaker 1: as made it?
- 53:39Speaker 6: I think he would have, Yes, because he's an MVP,
- 53:42Speaker 6: not because he's like Justin Fields wouldn't have won fourteen games. Probably,
- 53:47Speaker 6: That's what he's kind of suggesting that I said, and
- 53:50Speaker 6: I'm not saying now he's.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Just I think he's simply saying that you don't win
- 53:54Speaker 1: as many games with Stafford.
- 53:55Speaker 6: I'm simply replacing an MVP with with the MVP runner up,
- 53:59Speaker 6: who has more talent. And I'm saying that they would
- 54:01Speaker 6: have had fourteen mints.
- 54:02Speaker 1: No, is the MVP made. He's some more talent town.
- 54:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:07Speaker 1: And you said you're replacing him with them with.
- 54:09Speaker 6: A similar runner up, Yes, with a similar guy with
- 54:12Speaker 6: the runner up. Yes, I say, May with MVP, you
- 54:15Speaker 6: win the division with yes Stad Padford, Yes, I do well.
- 54:20Speaker 1: The emailer says, no, that's the different thirteen one yard touchdown.
- 54:23Speaker 6: No, he's saying that I'm suggesting that they didn't win
- 54:26Speaker 6: any games.
- 54:27Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 54:28Speaker 6: And I may want a lot of games. There's a
- 54:30Speaker 6: lot of games that if they had average quarterback play,
- 54:33Speaker 6: they wouldn't have won.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 54:35Speaker 6: I don't think Stafford's an average quarterback. I think that's
- 54:38Speaker 6: where the disconnect is. I think instead of all.
- 54:40Speaker 3: Those two yard touchdown runs, the Patriots should have just
- 54:42Speaker 3: let May throw for him, you know, like Stafford did
- 54:45Speaker 3: in the seed locked game last week.
- 54:47Speaker 6: We had the most twenty plus yard touchdown passes. They
- 54:50Speaker 6: were tired Stafford twenty plus air yards, sorry, air yards
- 54:55Speaker 6: I know I have to nerrod it up air yards.
- 55:00Speaker 1: NFL record one yard touchdown passes. Okay, it's really tight
- 55:05Speaker 1: in the red zone though, I mean, you gotta gotta
- 55:06Speaker 1: be on you.
- 55:07Speaker 3: You got to make sure that Puka catches it with
- 55:09Speaker 3: his right hand instead of his left hand.
- 55:11Speaker 6: Dad is the number one reason why I think May
- 55:13Speaker 6: is better. He's done it with less.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Collins made someone hander, Dylan says. Reports are saying Rabel
- 55:21Speaker 1: whispered lead them into Chase's ear, and that's what gave
- 55:24Speaker 1: him the strength to return possible lay hands.
- 55:32Speaker 6: I don't did anybody notice that? Did he late?
- 55:33Speaker 1: Did he go off the field? Every time.
- 55:38Speaker 6: You will receive total consciousness.
- 55:41Speaker 1: So yeah, so you know some like in soccer they
- 55:44Speaker 1: have like the holy water that they spray on. Take
- 55:49Speaker 1: a snip out of his mouth and he throws.
- 55:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:54Speaker 1: I don't think May wins the m v P. And
- 55:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest, I find it annoying. You don't
- 55:58Speaker 1: know what the future holds and how the voters are
- 56:00Speaker 1: going to view it going forward if he doesn't get
- 56:02Speaker 1: it this year. Because Stan Stafford deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award,
- 56:07Speaker 1: I will always view it as a missed opportunity, but
- 56:09Speaker 1: hopefully he wins many more. I guess anyway, Chason, Chason
- 56:13Speaker 1: and Landry need to be huge this game.
- 56:15Speaker 8: If we can get pressure with four, it's going to
- 56:17Speaker 8: be a long day for Herbert. Anything else would be
- 56:20Speaker 8: a shootout, and Herbert hasn't been great under pressure this year.
- 56:23Speaker 6: Well, the other thing that they could use is some
- 56:27Speaker 6: good coverage. You know, if mint they're not great at
- 56:31Speaker 6: generating pressure on the passer, let's give him a little
- 56:33Speaker 6: extra time to get there, you know, marry up the
- 56:35Speaker 6: coverage and the rush, you know, make Herbert not be
- 56:40Speaker 6: able to throw the ball when he wants to, and
- 56:41Speaker 6: then you should be able to get home. With this
- 56:44Speaker 6: offensive line and the struggles that it's had.
- 56:47Speaker 7: Do you put anything in what Bill said about Bill
- 56:50Speaker 7: Belichick saying trying to get a lead on them, like
- 56:52Speaker 7: they play differently when they're.
- 56:54Speaker 6: Doing Yeah, no one wants to throw the ball forty
- 56:56Speaker 6: five times.
- 56:56Speaker 1: He's very big on that.
- 56:58Speaker 3: That's why he never really liked any the pressure metrics
- 57:01Speaker 3: because he felt like the game script determined a lot
- 57:03Speaker 3: of those things. So when you're you know, playing teams
- 57:06Speaker 3: with the lead and you're all fourth quarter, you're pass
- 57:09Speaker 3: rushing all fourth quarter and then all of a sudden,
- 57:11Speaker 3: you know, a lot of these metrics gets padded. But
- 57:14Speaker 3: he uh, I think that their offensive line, uh, you know,
- 57:19Speaker 3: is everybody as bad as the Patriots offensive line last
- 57:21Speaker 3: year was? I mean they are dead last and pretty
- 57:24Speaker 3: much every metric across the offensive line.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Uh.
- 57:27Speaker 3: Watching them on tape, you know, they struggle with a
- 57:29Speaker 3: lot of different things, you know, schematically.
- 57:32Speaker 6: And they managed to win eleven games. Almost like Herbert,
- 57:36Speaker 6: you can work around that if you're good enough, the defense.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Pretty good quarterback.
- 57:42Speaker 3: It's I don't necessarily know if Like my point is,
- 57:45Speaker 3: I don't know if Chase On and Landry need to
- 57:46Speaker 3: be Miles Garrett on Sunday if they if they, if
- 57:50Speaker 3: they're just like, you know, have a decent game and
- 57:53Speaker 3: Milon Williams and Christian Barmore are doing their things and
- 57:56Speaker 3: the inside. Those two guys are the most important guys
- 57:58Speaker 3: to me, because you're not like's on in Landry or
- 58:00Speaker 3: knocking to all of a sudden have you know, They're
- 58:03Speaker 3: not going to go out there and be Micah Parsons
- 58:05Speaker 3: on Sunday night.
- 58:05Speaker 7: So let's just it's all you know, stunts and yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 58:09Speaker 7: a lot of that's just it's just how do you
- 58:11Speaker 7: get off the field with this guy?
- 58:12Speaker 2: That's what you know.
- 58:13Speaker 7: It just seems it's consistently how do you get off
- 58:15Speaker 7: the field. And that's what's going to be troubling to
- 58:18Speaker 7: me at the start of the game if it just
- 58:19Speaker 7: feels like it's four man rush, nice pocket no, no, yes,
- 58:24Speaker 7: you know him just going through progression.
- 58:26Speaker 6: But it's like we talk about all the time too,
- 58:27Speaker 6: and you see it when the defense is struggling, and
- 58:30Speaker 6: you saw it a little bit Sunday in the first
- 58:32Speaker 6: half and into the third quarter before they turn it
- 58:34Speaker 6: around when the subs came in. But they first and
- 58:40Speaker 6: second down are so important. Like if the Patriots defense
- 58:43Speaker 6: is entirely different on third and four as it is
- 58:46Speaker 6: on and I know that, like the numbers might not be,
- 58:48Speaker 6: Like you can see how much more aggressive they get
- 58:50Speaker 6: on third and longs and all of a sudden, Marcus
- 58:53Speaker 6: Jones is in the backfield, you know, coming up with
- 58:55Speaker 6: a sack if you can get them this particular team
- 58:59Speaker 6: in those third and law ungs, they can't protect everyon.
- 59:01Speaker 6: Gave you the numbers. It's a terrible offensive line.
- 59:04Speaker 3: It is the best part of the Patriots defense. They're
- 59:06Speaker 3: twelfth in the league on third down. Yeah, I gotta
- 59:08Speaker 3: get that, and that that's been their best thing is
- 59:11Speaker 3: you know, especially when you get get them into third
- 59:14Speaker 3: and medium plus and you're able to start drawing up
- 59:16Speaker 3: pressure and you know, bringing blitzes and doing different exotic things. Now,
- 59:21Speaker 3: you know, with the Chargers, I think Herbert's numbers do
- 59:24Speaker 3: drop off against pressure, even relatively to the rest of
- 59:26Speaker 3: the league. And he's playing with one hand, you know,
- 59:29Speaker 3: and he has fumbled a lot more since that he
- 59:33Speaker 3: broke his hand. So he has five fumbles since he
- 59:36Speaker 3: broke the hand.
- 59:37Speaker 6: So I'll give you another stat that kind of jumped
- 59:39Speaker 6: out at me, you know, with with Herbert, and this
- 59:42Speaker 6: to me is a product of the He has almost
- 59:45Speaker 6: five hundred yards rushing. That's a product of the offensive
- 59:49Speaker 6: line stinks and he has to run more, you know,
- 59:51Speaker 6: like Drake. Everybody would say Drake's a really good runner. Right,
- 59:55Speaker 6: that's less than May had less than Herbert rushing.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: As his second most rushing yards among quarterbacks.
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: And by the way, Herbert should be twenty fewer attempts.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: To He's going to be top five in the voting
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: for sure.
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: Herbert deserves to and he's not going to get it.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: He doesn't deserve quarterback team deserve some mention, like this
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: offensive line is horrid.
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: Like I would tell you that, Like CJ. Stroud, I
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: really like he doesn't deserve MVP consideration. That team is
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: not you know where it is because of c J.
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: Stroud right now.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: Winning eleven games behind that offensive line is an accomplishment.
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: That's why he deserves MVP consideration. Yeah, I mean some
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: of the games that he's played, Evan talked about guys
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: just hanging on his shoulder. Go back and watch the
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: first Denver game. There's a touchdown pass that he throws
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: in the first Denver game early in the year that
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: is absolutely absurd that he didn't get sacked. He's getting
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: ripped down and then he throws it. I think it's
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: Keenan Allen in the back of the end zone. He
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: had like a thimble to put the ball in while
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: a guy is dragging him down. Guys like Drake May Herbert,
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: Josh Allen Mahomes. There's not that many guys that do that.
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: We saw Lamar Jackson do it Sunday night. Sorry, you know,
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: some of my followers were very upset at me for
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: claiming that Lamar Jackson made a really good play in
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: the game. That seemed to rankle the feathers of some
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: people who just wanted.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: To say the one where they missed the time Paul,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: bad defense. Okay, I gotta wrap them up. What are
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: we doing? Jeff in Canada? I worry about Mike. He
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: was bored going twelve and four, hated going fourteen and
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: four and thirteen, but now that we're fourteen and three,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: he seems paranoid that it won't last or something coming
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: off our thirty eight ten demolished demolition of the Fins.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: He was so concerned because we gave up a third
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: and one. On defense, It's the NFL.
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: In ninety nine percent of games, both teams are going
- 1:01:43Speaker 8: to move the ball and both teams are going to score.
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: Defense is now about getting a couple key stops in
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: the game, forcing a field goal and creating a turnover.
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: There were really only two games all year our defense
- 1:01:54Speaker 8: really blew it, and in both cases it was being
- 1:01:57Speaker 8: over aggressive that got has burned Raiders and the Bills game.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: You've been so.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Passionate about getting back to twelve and four or fourteenth three,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: relax and enjoy it. Can't. So there you go, I can't.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: It's a playoff week. I have to tie myself into
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: being nervous. I'm gonna use the shots at Mike.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: I do agree with the defense overall point, though, and
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: just watching some of these teams that are in the
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: playoffs now, like Besides, like Houston and Seattle, I don't
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: really know if anybody has a truly dominant defense. And
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: I think the Patriots have enough defensively that if Drake
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: May plays like he has all year, they're going to
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: be a really tough out.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: I don't know they're going to win.
- 1:02:32Speaker 7: Totally agree with that, Yeah, And that's one of the
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: truths I think I've arrived at is that when we
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: talk about defense, that there are definitely a couple really
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: good defenses that can impact games, and the rest of
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: the defenses you're just hoping that they're going to make
- 1:02:43Speaker 7: the right plays at the right game time.
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: What I always see, too, is when you hear about
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: Denver's got a really good defense, Houston's got a really
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: good defense, and I always sort of take that, oh
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: that you know, they must be right, you know, I
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: don't watch these teams on a weekly basis then the
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: next games, and I'm like, nothing special about this defense.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: I mean, they're good in this day and age.
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: The way the emailer put it, and I think Evan
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: supported that, that's kind of defense nowadays, like see if
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: we can for hold on and let's force a punt
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: or two. Let's see if we could take the ball
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: away they're going to move the ball. Can we be
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: tough in the red zone. That's one of the problems
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: that I worry about with the Patriots is they haven't
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: been tough in the red zone, but for the most
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: you know, Houston the other day against a bunch of
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: backups was given up bomb after problem. Now, I know
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: that a lot of Houston guys were out of the
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: game too, but shouldn't you just have structure on defense.
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: You don't want to be allowing thirty points to a
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: third string quarterback.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: I think, you know the number one thing now with
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: all defenses is explosive plays, like how.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Can you limit X plays? And that's this team does
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: well in that.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: Mike Rabel says, if you that is the number one
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: thing because the you know, the numbers tell you that
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: you know, if you have one x play in a drive,
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: it's like a seventy sixty percent chance it's a scoring drive.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: Of it's two, it's like a ninety ninety five percent chance. So,
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: like everything about defense nowadays is like, how do we
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: not give up the big play? And let's get to
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: third down and then let's boogy right, and that that's
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: pretty much what first and second down defense is.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: All Right, we're gonna take a break. When we come back,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: more calls and emails, and we're gonna have a guest
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: at one thirty, special guests at one thirty. Stay tuned
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: for that.

- 1:06:31Speaker 13: morning talk about but just don't worry.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Talk about the Chargers and have their team there. It's
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: constructing guilty to you. I'm wondering if feels the same
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: way about your team, and if defined exactly, yeah.
- 1:06:49Speaker 11: I do.
- 1:06:50Speaker 14: Now I feel like we are now. I will just
- 1:06:52Speaker 14: tell you that they play great defense. They're very sound,
- 1:06:55Speaker 14: they're good tacklers, they're physical, they get off the field
- 1:06:59Speaker 14: on third day. They're good in the red zone. They
- 1:07:03Speaker 14: run the football. It's a physical football team. They possess
- 1:07:05Speaker 14: the football. They lead the NFL in time of possession.
- 1:07:10Speaker 14: You know, they have good, very good quarterback play. They're
- 1:07:14Speaker 14: well coached. They play with technique and fundamentals the game
- 1:07:20Speaker 14: that doesn't They don't panic, you know, one way or
- 1:07:23Speaker 14: the other. They kind of stick to their game plan
- 1:07:27Speaker 14: and while you're down and execute critical situations. So a
- 1:07:31Speaker 14: lot of respect for them, certainly what they've done in
- 1:07:35Speaker 14: short amount of time. Your team, I think, I think
- 1:07:40Speaker 14: that we are, we're trending in the right direction, that
- 1:07:43Speaker 14: we have our moments of all of those and I
- 1:07:48Speaker 14: can point to numerous instances of us doing it. So again,
- 1:07:53Speaker 14: that's uh you know, I think that's important is what
- 1:07:56Speaker 14: we're able to do on Sunday night.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: That needs to be venged.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Your offensive line and closet of the year or two.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: He's the left side.
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: A lot of players came in the shows overall the
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: group and s.
- 1:08:08Speaker 14: It'll be critical this week against a good front, a
- 1:08:10Speaker 14: good defense, so that that's what's gonna matter.
- 1:08:14Speaker 12: You know.
- 1:08:14Speaker 14: They've you know, I think they even continue to improve
- 1:08:18Speaker 14: and helped the state balance. I mean games where we
- 1:08:24Speaker 14: didn't run the football as well as we would like,
- 1:08:27Speaker 14: but then we had games where we really ran it
- 1:08:30Speaker 14: really well. I think they're trying to do a good
- 1:08:32Speaker 14: job of protecting uh Drake and you know, give us opportunities.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: To get anyone back from DJU this week because it's too.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: Old to tell.
- 1:08:43Speaker 14: Yeah, it's probably too early to tell, you know. So
- 1:08:47Speaker 14: Alex Austin will continue to practice and his return to
- 1:08:51Speaker 14: play and will evaluate that and then see where see where.
- 1:08:55Speaker 14: The other guys are Seahorse, Blane and Landry and and
- 1:08:58Speaker 14: tong Are and Jared as well.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: You said on the radio today that you thought Drake
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: was MVP of the league.
- 1:09:05Speaker 14: Why just, it's extremely accurate. You know, he's he's made
- 1:09:15Speaker 14: the most of every passing opportunity. You know, we've created
- 1:09:18Speaker 14: a lot of X plays, and to create X plays,
- 1:09:22Speaker 14: it's about thirty percent scheme. It's about seventy percent the
- 1:09:26Speaker 14: players making a play and part of that is the
- 1:09:28Speaker 14: quarterback putting it in a in a great location for
- 1:09:34Speaker 14: run after catch. I think you continue to see that
- 1:09:38Speaker 14: his ability to extend, use his legs to gain first downs,
- 1:09:42Speaker 14: critical first downs, is ability to score when we've asked
- 1:09:48Speaker 14: him to score and run it in and just he's
- 1:09:52Speaker 14: been everything that we've asked and he continues to get better.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: He's not satisfied.
- 1:10:00Speaker 14: So I know that our success of where we are
- 1:10:02Speaker 14: right now today, uh has a lot to do with
- 1:10:06Speaker 14: with Drake May yes, sorry, go.
- 1:10:09Speaker 12: Ahead, up, Okay, thanks mine. We've seen some really physical
- 1:10:15Speaker 12: plays from pushing his alas over the last several weeks.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: How have you seen that side of him developed this season?
- 1:10:21Speaker 14: I think just a confidence level of understanding that that
- 1:10:25Speaker 14: he is a big corner, he's a strong he's got
- 1:10:29Speaker 14: good size, good strength, and he doesn't just have to
- 1:10:34Speaker 14: be a fast athletic corner. And it's hard to take
- 1:10:40Speaker 14: and say that the corners in this league aren't going
- 1:10:42Speaker 14: to have to tackle. You know, they're going to have
- 1:10:44Speaker 14: to tackle when they hand the football off. We don't
- 1:10:46Speaker 14: want them to every single play, but there's times where
- 1:10:49Speaker 14: they have to and they have to crack replace and
- 1:10:52Speaker 14: they have to close the distance and they have to
- 1:10:54Speaker 14: stay on their feet and tackle. And you've seen it
- 1:10:57Speaker 14: the other way where we've been able to get out
- 1:10:59Speaker 14: there or get on some dbs and they've missed tackles and.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: Those those turn into X plays.
- 1:11:05Speaker 14: And so so I appreciate Gonzo doing that and CD
- 1:11:12Speaker 14: and Marcus Jones and all of those guys, especially men.
- 1:11:16Speaker 14: So the tackle from from Craig Woodson at the end
- 1:11:21Speaker 14: of half, which is which is a really really good play,
- 1:11:25Speaker 14: that is a bad I mean that just looks bad
- 1:11:27Speaker 14: when you watch it. Imagine being out there and watching
- 1:11:29Speaker 14: a guy come at you with all that space and
- 1:11:32Speaker 14: then Craig Woodson and then excuse me, and then Hawk
- 1:11:34Speaker 14: had won Later in the game with du So. I
- 1:11:38Speaker 14: think those guys have worked on tackling, they've improved and
- 1:11:41Speaker 14: then and they've they're gaining confidence, and you know, those
- 1:11:44Speaker 14: are the ones, the tackles that you have to have
- 1:11:46Speaker 14: that you know, don't turn into touchdowns. Just get him
- 1:11:49Speaker 14: on the ground and give us a chance to line
- 1:11:52Speaker 14: up and play again.
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: Going back to fifty nine, your lot, just so many
- 1:11:56Speaker 8: things about that want to help help beat what's.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: That them at the game? Then? What was this range?
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: And how much was the range affected by the.
- 1:12:06Speaker 10: End of half?
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: You know, where you would you maybe give it a
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: little when you push that, you know, given.
- 1:12:10Speaker 14: That, I mean, I think, okay, trying to process all
- 1:12:16Speaker 14: this here, I thought we execute First of all, I
- 1:12:20Speaker 14: thought we executed the situation.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Really well.
- 1:12:26Speaker 14: I think he took Keyshan there out of bounds and
- 1:12:29Speaker 14: then trying to hit another another chunk with nineteen seconds.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Probably could have done it either way.
- 1:12:35Speaker 14: Could have probably gone in a little closer slid and
- 1:12:39Speaker 14: then run the ball in. You know, Drake made a
- 1:12:42Speaker 14: decision to get.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Out of bounds.
- 1:12:44Speaker 14: We took the shot. They had everybody off or we
- 1:12:47Speaker 14: couldn't throw it anywhere but the end zone a out
- 1:12:49Speaker 14: of bounds and then went with the kick, and I
- 1:12:52Speaker 14: would say that would be around the end of half
- 1:12:55Speaker 14: or end of game range, you know, based on temperature wind.
- 1:13:00Speaker 14: We felt like confidence swing and I'm excited. It was
- 1:13:06Speaker 14: a big play for us to answer their three points.
- 1:13:09Speaker 13: Mike, you talked about the running game last night in
- 1:13:12Speaker 13: the importance this time of year, it seems like it's
- 1:13:16Speaker 13: coming together a little bit. You get two running backs
- 1:13:19Speaker 13: that their roles sort of how they're playing is working.
- 1:13:22Speaker 13: Can you talk about upfront, maybe a little technically speaking,
- 1:13:26Speaker 13: what's working there, which is obviously where this starts, what
- 1:13:30Speaker 13: they're doing to make this happen for those two guests.
- 1:13:35Speaker 14: Well, I think for the run game to have to go,
- 1:13:37Speaker 14: you have to move them now. You have to not
- 1:13:40Speaker 14: allow penetration, you have to block support. We talked about
- 1:13:43Speaker 14: the receivers. Any X play in the run game, receivers
- 1:13:47Speaker 14: are going to have to be blocking at the second
- 1:13:49Speaker 14: level going there and get support. Chiz did that, Booty
- 1:13:53Speaker 14: did that, Diggsy was heading in there on a couple
- 1:13:56Speaker 14: of them, and then you have to be able to
- 1:14:00Speaker 14: to run through arm tackles, you know, run through arm tackles,
- 1:14:03Speaker 14: and and then ultimately make somebody miss. So I have
- 1:14:06Speaker 14: to be good in combinations. There's there's single blocks, there's
- 1:14:09Speaker 14: combination blocks. There's times when we pull players and they
- 1:14:14Speaker 14: have to be good and be able to, you know,
- 1:14:17Speaker 14: somewhat displace. You know the line of scrimmage. You can
- 1:14:21Speaker 14: do it vertically or you can do it horizontally. So
- 1:14:25Speaker 14: I think that we're trying to mix different schemes and
- 1:14:29Speaker 14: it's good that the backs can can all run and execute.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Uh, you know what we're asking them.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: To do, and now great moments in.
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: History.
- 1:14:42Speaker 7: You know what else bothered me is that I didn't
- 1:14:44Speaker 7: study is the Lane Johnson the tweet of him being
- 1:14:47Speaker 7: like gonna have some fun in a couple of weeks
- 1:14:48Speaker 7: at the link, and that means my blood boil that one.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: Let's see, all right, come on, let's go like really really,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: that's what.
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: Really bothered me, what Nick Boyle said, we'll see how
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: they are when we play them. Yeah, hen they then
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: they gave up thirty seven points.
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that really bothered Well, you like that.
- 1:15:06Speaker 6: I don't like any of it. I don't dislike any
- 1:15:09Speaker 6: of it. It doesn't really come on my radar. Nothing
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: these guys say affects anything.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: That happens on the field.
- 1:15:14Speaker 6: I'm very consistent with that. I don't care that he
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: mouthed off before the game, and I don't care that
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: that didn't have any impact on the game.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: You guys, I care. That's the lifeblood for hater makes
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: it fun nation. We actually enjoy sports. We get into.
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: You, but you can't take a picture after the game
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: to win your Your enjoyment of sports really shines through
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: when you're disgusted with the team.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: Celeb protocol and there's etiquette that and you and.
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: Broke have fun but not too much.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: That's another great moment from.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: All right back here. Patriots Unfiltered eight five five past
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: five hundred is the hotline podcast at Patriots dot com.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: Is the email that's no, you don't have to do
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: a thing, no, no, no, okay, that's just that theirs.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: What thing are you doing?
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: Okay?
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: All right? It's the cool pilot question. So Patriots being disrespected,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: that's the headline. Will not stand may MVP better than
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Stafford that's the second headline.
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: Right, co sign on that.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: You got that right?
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: Okay, we're on to the chargers. We're onto the chargers,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: and we're on call. It is Joe and Pennsylvania.
- 1:16:32Speaker 15: What's up, Joe, Hey, guys that you love the show,
- 1:16:36Speaker 15: And sorry I missed the first thirty minutes to start
- 1:16:38Speaker 15: from like repeating anything.
- 1:16:39Speaker 16: And I'm not calling about.
- 1:16:40Speaker 15: League MVP, but about super Bowl MVP.
- 1:16:43Speaker 16: Just a fun question on it because.
- 1:16:45Speaker 15: I feel like if they snubbed Drake for League MVP,
- 1:16:47Speaker 15: they might try to snub them if we were to
- 1:16:50Speaker 15: win the super Bowl. But my question you guys is
- 1:16:52Speaker 15: May can't be the answer. But who would you guys
- 1:16:55Speaker 15: like to see realistically as Super Bowl MVP if May
- 1:16:59Speaker 15: didn't in it for the Patriots.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: But yeah, Milton Williams maybe or something.
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: I don't care.
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: I really don't care. I have never when we'll pick one,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: we'll find one, you know, like Remandre, I don't know
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Remandre my pick? What about Diggs? Diggs?
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: Diggs?
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: Sure?
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: Maybe, I don't know.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: You know, I have not thought one second about when
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: you've seen what it takes? What about Hey?
- 1:17:25Speaker 6: I mean you can go in and fair catch like he's.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Got some fair catches in him.
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: That was a very good, uh execution on the flea flicker.
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: Really good job by him. Sold the BLUs Yeah, you know,
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: took a beat the block and then I like it.
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: It was a cute play that actually gained thirty.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: One.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: That was a good flea flick. That was Henderson did
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: a really good job too. That was pristine flea flicker
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: execution all around, very good.
- 1:17:51Speaker 7: A lot of chaos around Henderson, Like, I like that
- 1:17:54Speaker 7: was one usually like it seems a little bit more
- 1:17:57Speaker 7: stable up front, but he was kind of in the
- 1:17:58Speaker 7: middle of guys.
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: But now I like the added a. He like did
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: a little jump cut to kind of sell that he
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: was going to run the doll. It was kind of
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: like a little bit more of a delay than what
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: you're used to seeing it to really sell it, Like
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: that's going to go on the teach tape when they
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: install the flea flicker and in the spring next year.
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: He's very this is what it's supposed to listen. Whenever
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: is involved in a play, it succeeds.
- 1:18:21Speaker 7: I mean, they're asking him in the block a lot.
- 1:18:23Speaker 7: I honestly wonder if they're gonna like that's what he's
- 1:18:28Speaker 7: basically doing.
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, you know, they have him kept blocking
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: the safety in the box down there in the strong
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: safety and then he finally they faked the block and
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: he ran the flea flicker and he was wide open.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: I mean, you know, he's not a big guy, got
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: a big heart, friend good good play strength.
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: There's a lot of play strength.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: He does have some six to.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: Him that's maybe a little bit different than like a
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: Pop Douglas. You know, he's got a little bit more
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: more burliness to him than somebody like that.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: I would agree.
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Well, although I don't know if i'd used to we Burley.
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: That was good. I like that.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I usually think of you know, old axe man. Uh
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: Sam in North Carolina is giving it another shot? What's up, Sam, Sam?
- 1:19:12Speaker 17: He'sam Yeah, I don't know. They just cut off on
- 1:19:16Speaker 17: me earlier. But how much fun is it?
- 1:19:18Speaker 16: Like?
- 1:19:18Speaker 17: It's so much better being fourteen and three versus you
- 1:19:22Speaker 17: know what I'm saying, four and thirteen.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: Like, I think I would agree with that, agree to disagree.
- 1:19:26Speaker 17: Yeah, it's crazy, but unless.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: You're se is what is like?
- 1:19:32Speaker 17: And I'm speaking to Evan because I'm sure he knows best.
- 1:19:34Speaker 17: So like, what is the best coverage that we should
- 1:19:37Speaker 17: play against? Justin Herberts, because I feel like we got
- 1:19:38Speaker 17: the best break in the playoffs. Sometimes you need to
- 1:19:40Speaker 17: look and I feel like our destiny is lucky, you
- 1:19:44Speaker 17: know what I mean. But what's the best coverage that
- 1:19:46Speaker 17: we should play against justin Herbertson?
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: What's the best coverage to play against Herbert? And and
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: you'll you'll hang up and listen.
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, definitely talk about this and game plan in
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: a couple of days when I publish that. But I
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: think the biggest thing, you know, you with him is
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: taking out mcconkee, you know, like that's his binky, that
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: that's his go to receiver. So I'm really interested to
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: see how they handle McConkie because he does run sixty
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: three percent of his routes out of the slot, so
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: he's not really a pure outside guy. So Christian Gonzalez
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: doesn't usually travel inside to the slot. So that makes
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: it a match up with Marcus Jones, who we all love.
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: But is their brackets? Is their robber help? Like, how
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: do you go about closing down mcconkee, Because I think
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: if you can take him away and if you're going
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: to force Herbert to throw to Quinton Johnson or Keenan
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: Allen or Trey Harris or Gadson, like you take your chances,
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: you know, you know, I think that's really where this
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: game starts for the Patriots, stop the run, get them
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: into the long down and distance, take away McConkie, and
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: then live with it. If he throws, you know, bombs
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: to Quinton Johnson and he's you know, beating Carlton Davis
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: or Gonzalez on the outside, then that's just you tip
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: your cap.
- 1:20:55Speaker 7: It's funny because it seems like Allen was kind of
- 1:20:58Speaker 7: that guy in his previous stint form and I still
- 1:21:00Speaker 7: think they have a good chemistry between those two.
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: And it even you know, he did have more targets
- 1:21:07Speaker 6: and catches than McConkie. And I was wondering if you
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: guys saw anything, because I think you guys have dived
- 1:21:11Speaker 6: into chargers more so than I have.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Was only like games from the sixties, you know, that's
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: all for you. Only games last year when they lost
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: forty to seven.
- 1:21:20Speaker 7: I mean they got blown out in that nineteen sixty
- 1:21:22Speaker 7: three AFC AFL championship.
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: And his mconkie hasn't been heard. Have teams done away?
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Like he's just the guy.
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: So you know, like Houston did a lot with quarters
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: and like the Patriots have dipped their toes a little
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: bit in some of the quarters waters. But I wouldn't
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: say that that's you know, their best coverage. But you know,
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: really what teams are doing is, you know, you run
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: what's what's called an inside out or a cone bracket
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: where there's one guy on his sitting outside of him
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: and one guy sitting inside of him. And he has
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: a decent vertical juice, but he's really not a downfield receiver.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: So if you can take away you know, those horizontal
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: breaks whether he's cutting in or out, and kind of
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: put guys on either side of them, then you can
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: kind of fundl the ball to other options. But you
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: know Allan's been he's kind of their third receiver. Like,
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: you know, I'm not too concerned about Keenan Allen. Like
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: if Carlton Davis is on Keenan Allen, I feel pretty
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: good about it. You know, Gadsden's the one guy that
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: I think if you're looking for like a guy that
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: comes out of nowhere and kind of sneaks up on them,
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: you know, he's the one I'm most worried about it.
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: Pass catching tight end backgrounds as a wide receiver in
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: college then converted full time to tight end, but he's
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: really a receiver in a tight end's body, you know,
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: kind of like a Mica Sicki type or something like that.
- 1:22:36Speaker 6: And the thing that worries me about the Chargers passing
- 1:22:39Speaker 6: game is because it looks like it's pretty spread out,
- 1:22:42Speaker 6: and I like the Patriots chances better when they have
- 1:22:44Speaker 6: a guy or too to focus on, you know, like
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: Shakira was pretty quiet in the two Buffalo games this year,
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: because I think when they can focus on something, but
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: this one it looks to me like Herbert doesn't really
- 1:22:56Speaker 6: care who you take away. He's just going to go
- 1:22:59Speaker 6: to somebody else. And I do think there's four options
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: that are reasonably productive for them. I think the top
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: three receivers all have a scary similar amount of yards.
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:23:13Speaker 6: Like I said, it's very neat. Allen has the most
- 1:23:15Speaker 6: targets in the most catches, but the yards are pretty
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: much the same. And I agree with you. I would
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: more want to live with the volume going to Keenan
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: Allen because I don't think he's as dangerous after the catches.
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: And it's certainly not Johnston, but not even mconkey.
- 1:23:29Speaker 7: Yeah, my little fun research took me yesterday. I just
- 1:23:32Speaker 7: started watching third and mediums, like third and three to six.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: What did you do to him?
- 1:23:37Speaker 7: But I honestly think and Evan, you can disagree with
- 1:23:40Speaker 7: me and tell me I'm stupid, but I think that's
- 1:23:41Speaker 7: where you see how good a quarterback really is in
- 1:23:43Speaker 7: that like third and middle, you know, third and long.
- 1:23:45Speaker 7: You know it's probably going to pass. Third and short
- 1:23:47Speaker 7: is probably going to be a run or some kind
- 1:23:48Speaker 7: of gadget. But third and three to seven six is
- 1:23:52Speaker 7: where you really have to make a play in. Keenan
- 1:23:55Speaker 7: Allen and both those guys are just you know, they
- 1:23:57Speaker 7: have a real knack for finding holes in zones sitting down,
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: and there's a chemistry.
- 1:24:01Speaker 6: Maybe much a different kind of player because it's obviously
- 1:24:04Speaker 6: a you know, Night and Day body type, but Allen's
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: like digs for them.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Yeah, like when they when they got to have it, they.
- 1:24:10Speaker 6: Go to him.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: You know, he is more explosive, oh night and Day.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: Like That's why Keenan Allen doesn't worry me a lot,
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: because Keenan Allen, it's gonna yeah, he might go to
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: him on third down, but it's going to be a
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: lot of like seven eight nine yard catches.
- 1:24:23Speaker 6: Yeah, he's a ten yard he averages ten to catch,
- 1:24:26Speaker 6: not even eighty one for seven seventy seven, sixty six
- 1:24:29Speaker 6: for seven eighty nine for McConkey, and fifty one for
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: seven thirty five for Johnston, So it's a good balance
- 1:24:35Speaker 6: That kind of worries me. And then you know Gaston,
- 1:24:38Speaker 6: you know, forty nine for six six sixty four is
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: right there, and Yeasty kind of had a slow start.
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: You know, he's a rookie. You know he's come on
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: as the seasons progressed. Their balance in the passing game
- 1:24:50Speaker 6: concerns me.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: Ford and Savannah. What do you guys see as the
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: biggest liability heading into this game? For me, it's the
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: team's tendency to let their foot off the gas, combined
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: with Herbert's ability to put on the superhero cape in
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. That's the strength of theirs that lines
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: up perfectly with one of the patriots biggest weaknesses. Honestly,
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: that's the only way I see the Patriots losing the
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: game taking the foot off the gas. Okay, yeah, I
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: mean I don't, can I tell you? Yeah, the only
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: way the Patriots can lose is that they don't try.
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: Okay, Yeah, I just.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think we look at it necessarily that way.
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: I just I think the biggest thing with with Herbert
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: is just he has that ability. I think the Miller
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: kind of said it like, he has the ability to
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: be the best player on.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: The field on Sunday night.
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: He's just as physically talented as Drake May, so he
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: can be the MVP of the game. And that is
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: worrisome a lot of these matchups that we go down
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: the line in like Drake May is going to be
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: clearly the better quarterback in you know, I even if
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: they play Paul's guy C. J. Stroud next round, I
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: still think he's better.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: He's they play, He's more physically talented than strouded.
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: Sure, if you play bow Knicks in the AFSC Championship game,
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: you all know how I feel about that, that's a blowout.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: He's better, you know. But Josh Allen and.
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: Justin Herbert are the two guys in the tournament that
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: are might have on any given Sunday could be better
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: than Drake May.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: Jeremiah says he wants to know with Drake's experience playing
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: the Chargers last year, the Chargers defensive scheme hasn't changed,
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: as well as not much roster movement on that side
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: of the ball for the Patriots. However, Drake has grown
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: a ton and is playing in a totally different offensive
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: scheme with a good amount of roster turnover. Would you
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: consider this a big advantage for the Patriots or a
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: non factor?
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: Non factor because I think like Jesse Minter, their defensive coordinator,
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: who's a really up and coming kind of rising star
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: and coaching and is probably going to be a head
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: coach in the NFL not before long, Like he's not
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: dialing it up against Drake may in a forty to
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: seven bolowout right, So Like a lot of what they
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: run is like a lot of exotic quarters pressures, especially
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: on third down, and like they're going to be bringing
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: pressure from different areas and drop and guys out and
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: doing all sorts of crazy stuff. He's not doing that
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: last year to Drake because he didn't have to, right, So,
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: like they're just kind of playing their base stuff. Like
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: this is going to be a totally different animal from
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: a scheme perspective of what the Chargers are going to
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: throw at them on Sunday night.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: Let's see Donald in Jackson, Mississippi. What do you think
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: about Cam Newton disparaging Drake Mayhem he calls him. I
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: think that Cam is like Bruce Springsteen and living in
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: his glory days in order to remain the best quarterback
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: from the Carolinas. In his own mind, he must cut
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: Drake down. He thinks he can still play while he
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: was washed up in twenty twenty. Yeah, that whole thing
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: with Cam Newton.
- 1:27:37Speaker 6: What did Cam Newton do?
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: Now?
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: Oh he's he's I forget what it was, but it
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: was just another diminishing of Drake May.
- 1:27:46Speaker 7: I don't think he called him a system quarterback necessarily
- 1:27:49Speaker 7: with someone game manager of the game.
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: That's what it was.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't really get it to me. He's trying
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: to make it. Yeah, he's really making himself into.
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: He's trying to, you know, really jump start a media
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: career here, and he's just decided to go with the loud,
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: obnoxious approach for some reason. And then like flex the
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: fact that he was the MVP of the league ten
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: years ago and that as like his credentials for doing that.
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: Like that team me.
- 1:28:15Speaker 7: I I think I saw RG three talking about it
- 1:28:17Speaker 7: where he was even like I like Cam, I don't
- 1:28:20Speaker 7: really know what he's talking about. Like, I mean, you
- 1:28:23Speaker 7: can criticize Drake, but at least criticize him for what
- 1:28:27Speaker 7: he should be criticized for not saying that he's a
- 1:28:29Speaker 7: game manager who when he's been throwing the ball down
- 1:28:31Speaker 7: the field all season long.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Dustin wants to know, how would you how would we
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: feel if Stafford and May were co MVP like Peyton
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: McNair in the early two thousands. I would do really
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: really hate that.
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: I don't think it's an option. I think they have
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: an uneven amount of voters now to avoid that kind
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: of situation.
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: Oh, I don't think so.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: I think they do.
- 1:28:52Speaker 6: Happened the first time because someone split their vote.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: It's all regular season, right, It's all based on regular season, right.
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: Yes, voting already closed.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's already done.
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:03Speaker 6: I thought that was fifty. Is that not right?
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: I don't know. I did the list changes every year.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: I'm not going to say that I know for sure.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: Let's see, that's.
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: How they do it for Super Bowl MVP, like, and
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: you know those game awards, there's usually like seven good
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: people or nine people, like there's like an.
- 1:29:23Speaker 16: What's up, Hey, good afternoon, guys.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: All right, Patty, just a quick question.
- 1:29:29Speaker 18: And I'm not saying this because I dislike Jared Wilson.
- 1:29:32Speaker 18: I love Jared Wilson, and like friend of the show
- 1:29:34Speaker 18: Alex Parts, I think his long term position is going
- 1:29:36Speaker 18: to be our center. But just considering how how good
- 1:29:40Speaker 18: Ben Brown has played when he's in there, not if
- 1:29:43Speaker 18: not the Patriots, but if you guys were running the team,
- 1:29:46Speaker 18: would you give consideration of leaving Ben Brown at left
- 1:29:49Speaker 18: guard throughout the playoffs? Just because to me, Evan, maybe
- 1:29:52Speaker 18: you can tell me I'm wrong. He I know Wilson's
- 1:29:55Speaker 18: more athletic, but he just seems to engage a little
- 1:29:57Speaker 18: bit quicker on running plays. And I'll take it up there.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: It's not a crazy question. It's a good question. Yeah,
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: it's a fair question.
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's a fair question, and you know,
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: I don't necessarily look too much into it. But obviously
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: their rushing success has come without Will Campbell for three
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: out of the four games, and without bet you know,
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: Jared Wilson for a couple of them as well. Have
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: been Brown in there. So he's definitely a bigger, more
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: physical guy than Jared Wilson. And that's why most people
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: thought Jared Wilson would play center in the league is
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: because he's just built a little bit more like a center,
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: So you know, does it help having a little bit
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: more you know, power, a little bit more size, you know,
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: to take up some more space at left guard?
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: It might? It might. How about Dan and Tampa? What's
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: up Dan?
- 1:30:43Speaker 10: Dan?
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: Turned down your internet?
- 1:30:46Speaker 13: Dan?
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Oh boy?
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: What what's going on over there? Where are you? Oh?
- 1:30:54Speaker 10: Sorry?
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: I thought the background you're trying to get hold of
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: you guys.
- 1:30:59Speaker 10: So I got a couple for the Uh, there's probably
- 1:31:03Speaker 10: going to the playoffs.
- 1:31:04Speaker 17: The first day is for Evan.
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: Evan.
- 1:31:07Speaker 18: Did you see those two players at.
- 1:31:09Speaker 17: The in the mock draft?
- 1:31:10Speaker 18: Actually, you guys to try me that too, But Evan,
- 1:31:13Speaker 18: I know he's more of this, uh kind of draft
- 1:31:15Speaker 18: kind of guy, that kind of guy.
- 1:31:16Speaker 16: But there was the tackle from Nigeria.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: What's the name of Yeah, I can't hear him. We
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: got the Zamboni going through here. Uh in the background,
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: Dan and email and Dan and we'll talk about it. Yeah,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: I couldn't.
- 1:31:33Speaker 6: Yeah. I think he was talking about mock drafts.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I heard the mock drafts part and.
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: I couldn't hear them. The individual names that he mentioned.
- 1:31:39Speaker 6: I mean, the chances are I'm probably not all that
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: familiar with the guys at the bottom of the first round.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: That's where we're gonna be picking. Yeah, Matt Morrell, if
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: you want to like jack up the volume a little bit.
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: On the callers. Ben's in California. What's up? Ben Ben
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: Ben Ben Ben Ben?
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: Okay, probably on Affleck Yeah, it could be Beneflex. We
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: wanted to chime in about team Yeah, I don't know
- 1:32:05Speaker 6: if you know he's from Cambridge.
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: Gooble Hunting, right, Gooble Hunting. Yeah, you would know. That's
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: the film. Yep, you got yelled at by Gronk playing
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: his So do we care about so?
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: Who is this?
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Anakin on Tattooine put together a chart and it's NFL
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: MVPs and their team's rank and strength of schedules. Do
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: we care about this? Not really, No, No we care.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: Not great for radio.
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: No, not great for.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: Radio francessor well, you know, going from twenty twenty four down. Uh,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: the higher the number, the stronger the schedule was incorrect,
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: not in this, not in this. You don't know because
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: you're not reading the email.
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: It says one hardest, thirty two easiest.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: It says right, he just said the opposite thirty two
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: equals hardest schedule.
- 1:32:59Speaker 6: It says, right here one hardest, look at what? Look?
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: So which one am I supposed to.
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: It says one equals easiest.
- 1:33:05Speaker 6: I mean, I'm looking right at it. It says both things.
- 1:33:09Speaker 6: Right read that strength the schedule ranked.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: One thirty two easy, and so it says that is
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: why I told you it wasn't good. It's not it's
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: not good radio because who can't. Yeah, I had to
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: tell you, Well, did anything makes all? Had a heart
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: schedule last year? Last year? Well he either had the
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: heart one of the hardest or one of the easiest. No,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: I don't think the Patriots had a hard schedule last
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: I said last year.
- 1:33:31Speaker 6: And they had the same schedule as the Patriots. So
- 1:33:33Speaker 6: I said, no, I don't think they had all the
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: I know this.
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: Year that the Patriots are thirty second and the Bills
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: are thirty first because they both played the NFC South.
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: So it's like the three games tilted a little bit
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: towards the Bills. That are different, but the Patriots.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: But in a seventeen game schedule, if four of your
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: games are tougher than the other.
- 1:33:50Speaker 6: Teams, there's only three every three games, right, that makes
- 1:33:54Speaker 6: a big difference.
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: It does in theory, but it depends on how those
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: three teams actually perform because it's based off the last season.
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: And like, for example, this year for Buffalo, one of
- 1:34:03Speaker 6: those three games was Kansas City, who ended up going
- 1:34:05Speaker 6: six and eleven. So that's why they're thirty first in schedule.
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: Like the Patriots added the Steelers, Jaguars, and Seahawks to
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: their schedule next year, which in theory could be really hard,
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: or the Steelers could fall apart and jack might be
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: for odds and.
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: You know they do.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: You want me to inflame?
- 1:34:25Speaker 6: You guys?
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: Sure?
- 1:34:27Speaker 6: I think the Patriots caught a real break the schedule
- 1:34:30Speaker 6: because I think some of the division champs they're going
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: to play next year, in my not so humble opinion,
- 1:34:38Speaker 6: admittedly aren't the best teams in their division. So I
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: think that's a break. Like I would much rather play
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: Seattle than San Francisco or the Rams, you know, as
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: an example.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: In a year over year situation, Yeah, I would.
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: I think it's this is probably nitpicking. I think Houston's
- 1:34:56Speaker 6: better than Jacksonville. I think that's another one of the
- 1:34:58Speaker 6: division champs they're playing. Is that right?
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: Yep?
- 1:35:00Speaker 19: And I think the is it the North, Yes, yeah,
- 1:35:04Speaker 19: Lions bears the play about whole division, but they have
- 1:35:10Speaker 19: Pittsburgh instead of Baltimore in my opinion, or Cincinnati, who
- 1:35:13Speaker 19: were both better than Pittsburgh.
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: And I've heard a lot of your people say whenever
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: they talk about the Missive, the AFC South is, Oh,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: the AFC South is a terrible It's not a terrible division.
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: The AFC South is not a bad deviating at all.
- 1:35:25Speaker 6: And I would actually say the Colts were pretty good
- 1:35:29Speaker 6: until they lost until their quarterback towards that killed right. Yeah,
- 1:35:32Speaker 6: and totally even the way they played the games with
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: Philip Rivers in this last one with Riley Leonard, to me,
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: showed that right that they weren't bad.
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: The Colts were so good.
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: That a lot of the advanced metrics still have them
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: as like a top ten team in the NFL because
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: they were so good before Daniel Jones' injury that it
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: held all the way.
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: Through the.
- 1:35:51Speaker 6: I agree with you, Tennessee's got off, but the other
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: three teams are pretty good.
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: I agree with you, But kim Ward's okay.
- 1:35:59Speaker 6: Really, he had a strong came strong, finished at the
- 1:36:02Speaker 6: season too. Statistically, I think he had multiple touchdowns in
- 1:36:06Speaker 6: like for the last five games, and in the last
- 1:36:08Speaker 6: game he ran for a touchdown and got hurt. He
- 1:36:10Speaker 6: came out of the game, so he probably would have
- 1:36:11Speaker 6: had multiple touchdowns.
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: Again, there's going to be a lot of people that
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: are going to say, like, can he be the Drake
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: May of twenty twenty six?
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: New coach?
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: Really like flashes on film of really like really good
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: downfield throws and things like that, like can he get
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: that boost.
- 1:36:27Speaker 6: Some young guys that made some you know, Gunner Helm
- 1:36:30Speaker 6: and I don't know how the first had a great
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: year for you know, all purpose yards.
- 1:36:37Speaker 7: What what would you guys, what do you expect the
- 1:36:40Speaker 7: Colts to do with Daniel Jones come out with a
- 1:36:43Speaker 7: torn achilles?
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: Like do you run achilles? I would try Riley Leonard?
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: Anything there good? I think he has potential to be
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: a backup. Yeah that I think that the Colts.
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: You know, there are a lot of teams that made
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: coaching changes, and I think the Colts sticking with Shane
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: Stikeen was really smart.
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: He's a really good coach.
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: I think the Cincinnati sticking is that Taylor not not.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: His friendly on that one.
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: Poor tracks, like they didn't they're bringing back the entire
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: staff like they're bringing back Taylor, the coordinators on both
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: sides of the ball like they did.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: They're making no changes to Cincinnati. I was like, what
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: are we doing? All right? Do we have our guest here.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Let's let's bring him in. On that note, Jerry's talking
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: to him. Oh, Jerry, Okay, Jerry madelon our talent coaches, un.
- 1:37:29Speaker 6: Guesthing give him a little pep talk, give them a.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: Little pep talk.
- 1:37:35Speaker 6: Okay, Well, Fred, your point about the AFC South I
- 1:37:39Speaker 6: think is valid because that is one of the things
- 1:37:42Speaker 6: that my boys do often because that division traditionally hasn't
- 1:37:46Speaker 6: been as strong, you know, like the Bill O'Brien Texans
- 1:37:50Speaker 6: sort of won a bad division a couple of times,
- 1:37:52Speaker 6: and that hasn't That's not the case anymore.
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: That's not a bad division.
- 1:37:55Speaker 6: Sure, everybody continues to think of Jacksonville as like a
- 1:37:58Speaker 6: terrible team and pretty good.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: Okay, what do we got, Jerry? We have a show
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: to do. You're we need a guest here. Don't talk
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: all the interesting man, How you doing you all right?
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: Have a seat?
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: Warm to What do we owe this pleasure?
- 1:38:22Speaker 8: Man?
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: The fact that my guy Jerry talk to you guys.
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: You know, I'll let you guys know, I was trying
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: to come on, man, I'm only out here a couple
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: of times a year, so I try to maximize, you know,
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: the time that I have out here. I try to
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: see everyone. Stay, what's up to all the guys, you know,
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: the guys that I haven't met, see some of the coaches.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: And yeah, brings back that feeling before we get into
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: your you know, opinion of what's going on in the NFL.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: What are you up to these days?
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: I'm coaching at my One Point High school in Arizona
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: officer coordinator. Actually came here with my co officer coordinator
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: who's here with me right now, and I just I
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: just can't. I just that's what I do. I coach
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: on football, and I spent time with my kids. You know,
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: obviously nine years in the NFL while I was playing,
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: you know, I was you know, you got to go
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: back and forth. Obviously the jobs first, you guys know
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: how Bill is so so yeah, just being a a
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: present dad and and a coach. Man, it's awesome.
- 1:39:14Speaker 6: A little co offensive coordinator. I'm intrigued.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: So calls the place.
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: Big question just an artist calls the play calls the play.
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: But he but I put me and him put the
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: playbook together. So I came with my Oregon, New England,
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: Philly stuff, and he came with his version of you
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: know those things, and we put it together, and we
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: came up with a really really good playbook. And you know,
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: we gotta We got a kid by the name of
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: la Garrett Blunt Jr. All right, running back, quarterback, receiver
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: in safety.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: So it didn't follow that at all.
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: Nah, he didn't. He he don't got that. He don't
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: have Das's bill. You know, Dad, Dad grew up in
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: Florida eating fried chicken and corn bread and you know,
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: corn and rice and stuff like that. And he, you know,
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: his mother feeds them, you know, avocado.
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: The Brady So he looks so little Birdie tells me,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: you'd be interested in doing something like we do, like
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: you're you're interested in the media a little bit.
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: Yes, sir man, I told him. I told her. I
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: told these guys that I have a huge interest in it.
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: I love doing it. It makes me smile and it
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: kind of gives me kind of that same feeling that
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: I had when I was playing the game you guys
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: will be my teammates. You know what I'm saying. This
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: is the locker room. It's the same, you know, so
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: I fully enjoy it.
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: It's kind is so we have a teammate that you
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: didn't like, particularly, that's Fred.
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: I don't know if I had any of those. I
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: feel like we we had. We all had one common
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: goal and we're too probably two common goals, and you know,
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: one was to make money and the other one was
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: to win.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: Absolutely along those signs, LG. I want to ask you
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: when you first got here.
- 1:40:55Speaker 7: We're talking about the playoffs this week, and we always
- 1:40:57Speaker 7: hear about how the mood changes inside the building when
- 1:41:00Speaker 7: the playoffs are here.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: What was it like for you your first year with.
- 1:41:03Speaker 7: Tom Brady setting the tone in that first playoff year,
- 1:41:05Speaker 7: did you feel a shift?
- 1:41:07Speaker 19: Oh?
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I felt the shift before the playoffs. I mean,
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: I know this is pretty probably out there, but I
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: know you guys have heard people say Bill tells you
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: after Thanksgiving you put everybody. I told my team this
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: this year, out of Thanksgiving, you put all the stuff
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: that you're dealing with, personal business, any of that stuff.
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: You put it all in a in a drawer. You
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: close it and you fully focus and lock in on
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: football and you know, for the rest of it and
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: for the rest of the time that you're here, you know,
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: for the rest of the time that we're here, that's
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: what we're focusing on. So the ship the shift happens
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: way before the playoffs, but it is a different energy
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: once it start because twelve twelve comes in the building.
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: You know luck he does every single day. But you know,
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: now what kids call or a farming that's you know,
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: it glows when he comes in because you know he
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: means business.
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: Okay, So what you know, having that experience, if if
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: you were to talk to a young NFL player and
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: who's never been in the playoffs before, what would be
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: the first piece of advice besides putting everything in the drawer? Like,
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: what would you tell them how to get their mind ready.
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: For this thing? I tell these guys, man that you
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: played sixteen games and none of those will be like
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: what today is? You know what this playoff game is?
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: This this has implications of you know, you're going to
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: go home or are you are you going to continue
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: to play? You know, obviously the the history of what
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: New England brings is different than the playoffs. Everyone knows that,
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: and I think that rubs off on a lot of
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: those guys. But I would definitely tell them, like, man,
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: you know, I know you played sixteen games and you
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: might have played against this team earlier in the season.
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: It won't be the same. It won't be the same.
- 1:42:49Speaker 8: So have you paid attention to what the Patriots are
- 1:42:52Speaker 8: doing this year at all? If you are, you, yeah,
- 1:42:54Speaker 8: So what do you think about your Lemandre Stevenson in
- 1:42:58Speaker 8: Henderson as a duo?
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: I like that, Yeah, I like the duo. Well, I'm
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: the one two punches. It seems like it's pretty much
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: slowly coming back. Remindra had a reminder had a great game.
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: Ye he he looks really really good. I know, I
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: know he's been having a couple of issues, but I mean,
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: I still think he's a really good back.
- 1:43:17Speaker 8: Man.
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: I think he's extremely underrated. I mean, that's just I mean,
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: this is just my opinion. People probably think I'm being
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: favoritism because of the Patriots. But he's but he but
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: but but he he runs the ball well, he has
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: really good vision, he has really good balance. He catches
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: the ball better than most backs in the league. And
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: I know that's probably hard to believe because he's a
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: bigger guy. But I like him and his running style.
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: And I mean, you know, obviously tre just brings a
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: different a different, you know, strike mentality. He got a
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: big play mentality. He's fast, he's a he's really really explosive.
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: It reminds me of It reminds me a lot of
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: Me and Dion, me and James type deal with me
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: being with with me being top of those lists. Got
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: to tell my guys that they see this, I was.
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: Gonna ask you just to you know, relive the glory
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: days just a little bit.
- 1:44:03Speaker 3: I obviously the Colt scams in the playoffs with you
- 1:44:06Speaker 3: just going right down their throat. It's just how you know,
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: big is that running game this time of year? Because
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: you saw it on Sunday, the Patriots are getting their
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: running game going a little bit just in time for
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: the playoffs.
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: It's huge. It's huge, man. I talk about this on
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: a on my podcast, the Money Down Podcast with James
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: white Man. It is is you got to have a
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: you gotta have a run game in the playoffs. You
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: got to have the run game. Most places that you're
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: going to play are probably going to be cold, you know,
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: even even then, even if you go to Florida or
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: anything like that, it's not going to be freezing, but
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: it's still going to be sixty degrees, you know. So
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: you got to be able to run the football, man,
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: and and and that's huge. And I don't care how
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: tough and strong and you know, grown man you are,
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: you know, these guys still got to go out there
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: and tackle you. And that's how That's where I think
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: the Patriots have a huge advantage with with the with
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: these two guys right here, and obviously Drake made playing
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: out of the MVP level.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: When you went into those cold scams, you knew they
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: weren't going to be able to tackle you though, right Like,
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: did you know you're gonna.
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: Have The history says that I probably have my my
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: best games in my career of the nine years that
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: I played, no matter what team I was on, it
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: was always against the coach. So I'm I'm going to
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: give you guys a secret. I know guys say, oh man,
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: the next game, next game, But I always went into
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: that coach game feeling like I'm going to have a
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: huge game.
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: Why was that?
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: That's a good question, because they've had different coaches while
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: I was there, and I just don't think that, you know,
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: the Coast organization haven't ever really been known for stopping
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: the run. They've never really been known for being a
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: defensive an organization. It's always been Peyton and Edgeran and
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: Marvin Harrison and all these guys. Nobody ever really talked
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: about like that defense. Yeah, he's a bad man though.
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: That's probably the only guy that they really ever hear
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: about on their defense.
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: Want to with James White, and obviously there was a
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: pretty important touchdown that James s Gordon and the huge comeback.
- 1:45:53Speaker 6: How how fat how long did it take you to
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: get from the sideline to James White? Because that might
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: have been as quick as I've ever seen you go?
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: And Atlanta game, which game.
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: The excitement was. The excitement was at at an all
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: time high because of the because of the way the
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: game went, So I was really excited for him. I
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: didn't I'm pretty sure we went into that game. I
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: want to say we were thinking about our game plan
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: was running the football, you know, being able to run
- 1:46:20Speaker 2: the football on these guys and obviously me being at
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: me coughing it up in twelve, throwing the pick six
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: and you know, put us in a bad position, So
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: it puts it thrust James into a huge role kind
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: of like what Shane was doing for us in the
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: Super Bowl, except a lot. So I was extremely happy
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: for him because before then, I don't know if he
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: had had any kind of game of that magnitude before,
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: and he had it in the biggest stage, So I
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: was I was extremely excited for him. Man probably got there,
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: probably so as he crossed the goal line, I started running.
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: I don't I don't even I don't even remember. As
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: soon as he stretched the ball oue and across the
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: goal line, I probably start running on.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: Is that your most amazing NFL memory or is there
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: a on that top? Sett not be Super Bowl fifty ten?
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: It's okay, I will say I will say that my
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: New England Super bowls were both significant because of because
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: of how they went right. The interception to end the
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: game James White and overtime like those are those are
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: going to be sketched in history for the rest of
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: Super Bowl history. But personally, my best performance was the next,
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: you know, my last That was my best performance. So
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: I did have a lot of fun in that game.
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: It was bitter sweet But.
- 1:47:36Speaker 7: What's it like going into that game for you knowing
- 1:47:38Speaker 7: having been with the Patriots and what it's going to take.
- 1:47:41Speaker 7: This is a team that's played in a bunch of
- 1:47:42Speaker 7: Super Bowls. Like, what are you saying to the guys
- 1:47:44Speaker 7: and on the Eagles when you're going into that game.
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: I'm just trying to give them as much game as
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: possible to know that, Like, bro, no matter what we
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: think this is going to be, it is not going
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: to be like we've been beating a lot of teams
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: by a lot of points. We've been blowing a lot
- 1:47:59Speaker 2: of teams out. I promise you, it's not gonna be
- 1:48:02Speaker 2: like this. And they were just like, man, we you
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: know a lot of guys like man, we're nice. Bro,
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: Like we're nice like that. That old school version of
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: football is over. Listen to me. I promise you, guys,
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: it's not going to be what you're seeing.
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: What you like, but anyone expected, I mean, it was
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: just back and forth.
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: Well they quickly understood, you know, you got to score.
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: You had to score forty one points to win that game,
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So they they once once
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: they started like going back and forth and things like that.
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: They was like, you know, obviously y'all had to play
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: well twelve, drop the touchdown or drop the past or
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: whatever on our sideline. Guys are like, bro, he dropped that.
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: Oh it's all now, And I'm like, bro, only you
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: guys were ever there. You know what I'm saying, it's
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: never not never over never on his back.
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Then you guys hit the Philly Special too, which which
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: was a penalty.
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: By the way, we can what do you call it
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: a conspiracy?
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: We can say that now. It's like the.
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: Actually, that's actually the first time I ever even Oh
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: you're talking about in the back of it, you're talking
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: about the catch.
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I'm talking about the Special Formation, our formation.
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I have heard that.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: And it also wasn't a catch like we can go
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: there too, but you know, was not you know your calls.
- 1:49:33Speaker 6: Unfortunately, I have to I'm kind of a rough bashler though, so.
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: I'm on that level with you. But I'm gonna I
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: ain't gonna take it too far. They might not let
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: me on the field.
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: So you're doing the podcast with with sweet Feet, yes, sir?
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: And and uh when does that come out? How often?
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: Where can people find it?
- 1:49:51Speaker 2: We shoot it? We shoot it once a week. It's
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: usually on a Thursday. We started on at halftime for
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: the Thursday night game, so we shoot shoot it every week.
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: It's called the Money Down Podcast Every Thursday. Meet James White, Soir,
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: Jorne and Warren. It's I mean, it's it's an amazing
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: it's an amazing time. This is kind of my first
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: time deviling into like a weekly show of my own
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: outside of like working with a network, and man, it's
- 1:50:18Speaker 2: it's it's really fun. I really enjoy it. And I
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: we were talking up to a couple of people about like,
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: you know, bringing it to a couple of different places,
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: but I've talked to nets and stuff like that. But man,
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: we really enjoy it. Man, it's fun.
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: Yeah. And like you mentioned, like it's just like kind
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: of sitting around the bar and talking sports.
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: That's it. Yes, yes, sports, and I mean even even
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: other things we talk. I mean we talked about you know,
- 1:50:43Speaker 2: basketball or you know, DK Metcalfs, interaction with the fan
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: and you know all those you know, we talk about
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: a little bit of everything on there.
- 1:50:51Speaker 6: It's just like this show only Fred brings up like appliances,
- 1:50:56Speaker 6: you know, lawnmowers, you need, you.
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: Know, advice like you know which lawnmower to buy or
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: wash your just I'm your guys.
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: I'm trying to figure out how to get my goal cart,
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: how to get my kid go cart running. You'll got
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: any advice for me on that? They don't have a card?
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:51:15Speaker 6: Do we let him go without asking some presence of
- 1:51:17Speaker 6: Drake Maye? Just like everything okay that's gone on?
- 1:51:20Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, ask me, man. I'm a huge Drake
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: may fan and I'm on that train. I'm on that train. Man.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: He's played out and at an immaculate level. The jump
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: is the jump that he's made is I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: He does everything right. I mean, he's put a team
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: in regardless and I know that. I know people talk
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: about the schedule and all that. Man, listen, everybody got
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: to go lin and play football. It don't matter who
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: you play against, and you don't pick who you play against, right,
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: They got to come out there and try to win
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: and put their their team in the same position that
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: we're trying to put our team in. And they got
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: a quarterback and we got a quarterback. And at the
- 1:51:59Speaker 2: end of the day day our quarterback won fourteen of
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: those games and you know whoever we played against, it't. Yeah,
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: so it is what it is. He's I think he
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: has played. He's the biggest impact on any team as
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: a quarterback that I that I can see.
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: I think you're right answer, Yeah he is.
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: He's a bad man, bro.
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: Obvious, and I think it is, like you said, the
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: biggest impact on a team.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yesh, I'm with you on that. And I mean,
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: despite you know, whoever else I guess they're saying he's
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: running against where I think it's bow Nigs or some
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: you know, Stafford, Yeah, Stafford. I mean he's good. He's good.
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: He's gonna be a Hall of Fame quarterback. But yeah,
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: he Nah. I feel like you can put somebody else
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: in there, a lot of people. Yeah, you can put
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: someone else in there for the Rams, and they're still
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: gonna throw it the pooka and they're still going to
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: throw it to Devonte Adams and they're still going to
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: hand it off to Karen Williams and Blake Courtum and
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: man nah nah Drake cut, Drake clean and cut.
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: Okay, all right, well listen, we appreciate you.
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: Coming by, yes, sir man, thank you guys for having
- 1:53:07Speaker 2: me players. Just my first time ever being here. I
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: don't know how the neighborhood I feel welcome.
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't leave here, but they tell us we
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: have to stay here all day.
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: Yeah, hey man, what's what's your favorite call? On the call?
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: What do you got power? Power for?
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: Andre?
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: His touchdown was two back power here the full back
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: in the backfield, pull the guard.
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:53:37Speaker 2: I searched down against the coach because I think it
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: was like starving for something yards Yeah, hour the best.
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: All right, all right, Garrett Blunt, everybody appreciate you coming in.
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: It's great to meet you.
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: That was cool.
- 1:53:53Speaker 6: Four touchdowns, that's fun. Yeah. Four. Yeah.
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: I didn't want to bring out Super Bowl fifty two
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: and it just came out. Well, let's good memory for him, right.
- 1:54:02Speaker 6: I just think it's an interesting perspective. He's talking about
- 1:54:05Speaker 6: sort of aura that that Tom had and now him
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: trying to make sure he got that through to his
- 1:54:11Speaker 6: team when he was there the next year.
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: I think that's kind of interesting.
- 1:54:14Speaker 6: Person.
- 1:54:14Speaker 7: I love that no matter what you think the game's
- 1:54:16Speaker 7: going to be like, and how many playoff games have
- 1:54:19Speaker 7: you watched where we talk all week about one thing?
- 1:54:22Speaker 7: And I mean I've only done two playoff games where
- 1:54:24Speaker 7: we talked about everything, but it's like, you know what,
- 1:54:26Speaker 7: generally speaking, just how you feel going into a game,
- 1:54:28Speaker 7: and then it's like, I didn't know this was going
- 1:54:29Speaker 7: to be a turnover fest or you know that kind
- 1:54:31Speaker 7: of thing.
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: Like Mike and I were talking in the post game
- 1:54:34Speaker 6: of about, you know, the matchups with the Chargers receivers,
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: and you know, Mike and I kind of disagreed on
- 1:54:40Speaker 6: We're s yeah, Alan and Johnstin and and then I'm
- 1:54:44Speaker 6: just like looking, I'm like, like, it's not really worth
- 1:54:47Speaker 6: getting into. They probably just end up playing zone like
- 1:54:48Speaker 6: they've been doing like for large chunks of the year.
- 1:54:51Speaker 6: Who knows what they're going to do.
- 1:54:53Speaker 7: So that's what I was thinking too, pot when I
- 1:54:54Speaker 7: was watching my stupid third downs last night, and it
- 1:54:56Speaker 7: was just like, you know, so many bunch sets where
- 1:54:58Speaker 7: it's like how many.
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: Actual are you? Like, great, here, everybody's wind up, You're here,
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: you're here, You're you know.
- 1:55:04Speaker 7: I mean, there's definitely a chunk, but it's not like
- 1:55:07Speaker 7: eighty percent of the snaps we're just oh, we're gonna
- 1:55:09Speaker 7: man him up, you know.
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: It's it's it's more the nuance of the there's a
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: lot of conversation.
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: We talked to Ashton Grant, the Patriots quarterbacks coach, about
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: progression reads the other day. The flip side of that
- 1:55:20Speaker 3: is traveling corners with receivers, and a lot of the
- 1:55:23Speaker 3: defensive coaches say it's it's actually like it's the juice
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: isn't worth the squeeze because it might be easier for
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: that one guy who's traveling with it, but the trickle
- 1:55:32Speaker 3: down effect that it has on the other ten guys
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: on the field, it actually makes everybody else's job harder
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: because now you have you know, maybe Gonzo's traveling inside
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: with lad Butconky, So now you're playing somebody on the
- 1:55:44Speaker 3: outside who's not used to playing on the outside, and
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: now he's got to play over there. And so there's
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: a lot of conversations now about that and whether or not,
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: you know, it's actually worth it to travel This.
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: Is his own game, I think. I think it is
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: only because of what Paul brought up. It's a balanced
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: team and like, yeah, you got to cover the whole field.
- 1:56:04Speaker 6: I'm just going off of what they've done during the year.
- 1:56:07Speaker 6: The three of us, I think would all be in agreement.
- 1:56:09Speaker 6: We kind of in the back of our minds wondered
- 1:56:11Speaker 6: if when the games start to become a little bit
- 1:56:13Speaker 6: more important, if you see a little bit more man,
- 1:56:15Speaker 6: Mike and I would just sort of go We agreed,
- 1:56:17Speaker 6: you know, probably Marcus with Lad McConkie. Yeah, But then
- 1:56:22Speaker 6: I kind of I think you mentioned this earlier. I
- 1:56:24Speaker 6: kind of thought Carlton Davis, m Keenan Allen and Gonzo
- 1:56:28Speaker 6: with Johnston with this, you know, the bigger, speedier guy,
- 1:56:32Speaker 6: and Mike had it the opposite. So I mean, I
- 1:56:35Speaker 6: don't know if they're gonna go man, if they you
- 1:56:36Speaker 6: know how much they're gonna go man.
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: But my guess is that like they could play man.
- 1:56:42Speaker 3: But I think a lot of it is going to
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: be just kind of stagged insides of like you guys,
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: whoever lines up across from you, who ever comes out
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: that side of the formation, because the chargers will motion
- 1:56:51Speaker 3: McConkie a decent amount too, so they'll put him in
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: motion and move him around, So instead of having Marcus
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: Jones having to chase him, you know, all around the field,
- 1:56:58Speaker 3: it might be better to just say, hey, you guys,
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: you know, stay on your sides, and whoever comes out
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: your side.
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: That's that's the guy you got.
- 1:57:05Speaker 7: I mean, when you were saying your last thing at
- 1:57:06Speaker 7: all I can think of is now you've got Marcus
- 1:57:08Speaker 7: Jones lineup outside in a smart offensive corner. Is gonna
- 1:57:10Speaker 7: get Quentin Johnson out there and say, hey, Quentin, you
- 1:57:13Speaker 7: got about seven inches on this guy.
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: Run down the field. We're gonna chuck it.
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: Up to you.
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: Yep, all right, quickly, We'll get a couple of people
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: off the call screen.
- 1:57:21Speaker 6: Here.
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: I've been waiting patiently, Ed and san Diego. What's up?
- 1:57:24Speaker 6: Ed?
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: You hate the charges because they left San Diego? Ed,
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: Oh we waited, Okay, well you waited. Hey one more
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: Dan in California? What's up Dan?
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: Bill?
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: Are you doing?
- 1:57:40Speaker 2: Hey good? What's up?
- 1:57:43Speaker 17: So?
- 1:57:43Speaker 10: Yeah, I wanted to talk.
- 1:57:44Speaker 16: I know you guys have been talking about MVP, but
- 1:57:47Speaker 16: you know, really I can't really let it go.
- 1:57:49Speaker 8: Man.
- 1:57:51Speaker 18: People on social media are just like crazy.
- 1:57:55Speaker 16: Just the way just how they try to, you know,
- 1:57:57Speaker 16: get Matthew Stafford and and bring down Drake May. But yeah,
- 1:58:03Speaker 16: I feel like the argument is really just heading towards
- 1:58:06Speaker 16: a legacy reward for for Matthew Stafford, and I feel
- 1:58:11Speaker 16: like Drake May like everybody wants to talk about a schedule,
- 1:58:14Speaker 16: but I mean if you compare his schedule to common
- 1:58:17Speaker 16: opponents with Matthew Stafford, Like I think Drake is like
- 1:58:20Speaker 16: six and zero and I think Matt Stafford's like four
- 1:58:23Speaker 16: and two.
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: Yep, I don't really understand.
- 1:58:26Speaker 16: But yeah, there's like a stat that I've seen the
- 1:58:28Speaker 16: other day too, and it was like the MVPs that
- 1:58:31Speaker 16: have won since twenty thirteen, which was twenty and thirteen
- 1:58:34Speaker 16: was Payton Manning. Every single MVP is one that has
- 1:58:37Speaker 16: been the number one or the two seed. And I
- 1:58:39Speaker 16: feel like it's very important regardless if you want to
- 1:58:41Speaker 16: talk about schedule or not. You know, he did make
- 1:58:45Speaker 16: one is the two seed. One's the fifth seed, you know,
- 1:58:47Speaker 16: And I just wanted to get your guys' opinion on that.
- 1:58:49Speaker 6: Yeah, I think none of that matters to me.
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: Perple, Well, what does matter to you?
- 1:58:54Speaker 6: That may had a better year with west talent? Okay,
- 1:58:57Speaker 6: in my opinion, that's just my opinion. Might pick because
- 1:59:00Speaker 6: I felt like he played better with less talent around him, like.
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: Elevated around because of that play, they became the two seed.
- 1:59:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I know, but because you can you want to
- 1:59:13Speaker 6: nitpick these arguments like that, Yeah, and we're gonna go
- 1:59:16Speaker 6: common opponents. Well, how did May do against Seattle twice?
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: You didn't play right?
- 1:59:20Speaker 6: Yeah, best defense in football, number one seed in the NFC,
- 1:59:24Speaker 6: and Stafford had to play him twice and wanted something.
- 1:59:26Speaker 6: He tore him apart and he lost. So that means
- 1:59:31Speaker 6: you're the fifth seed instead of the one seed. Threw
- 1:59:34Speaker 6: for four hundred and eighty yards that night. That's why
- 1:59:37Speaker 6: I don't do that game. I think I just think
- 1:59:38Speaker 6: they played better. That's why I pick him.
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: Is to me, is just like a chicken or the egg.
- 1:59:42Speaker 3: Like, if you have a quarterback that's up for MVP,
- 1:59:45Speaker 3: you probably are going to be winning a lot of
- 1:59:47Speaker 3: games because your quarterback is up for MVP, right.
- 1:59:50Speaker 10: But I don't.
- 1:59:51Speaker 6: But I mean, I don't say like twelve and five
- 1:59:53Speaker 6: with the Rams schedule and fourteen and three with May's schedule, Oh,
- 1:59:58Speaker 6: Stafford's was more more impressive. No, I just think May
- 2:00:00Speaker 6: played better. That's what I'm judging it on in my opinion.
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: No, No, I know, But like when you're making this vote,
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: you have to look at those details. You have to
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: come up with the reasons why one guy edges out
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: the other guy, and and then you get into the nitpicking.
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: That's that's what happens.
- 2:00:17Speaker 6: But do you think, I mean, in all honesty, if
- 2:00:20Speaker 6: you think the Rams were in the AFC East this
- 2:00:22Speaker 6: year and played the Patriots schedule, you think they would
- 2:00:24Speaker 6: have gone fourteen and three. No, Okay, I'm really kidding,
- 2:00:28Speaker 6: but I'm being serious, Like that's why I don't play
- 2:00:30Speaker 6: the whole I can't give it to a team that
- 2:00:32Speaker 6: had a five seed. But but now you want to
- 2:00:34Speaker 6: tell me I can't give it to a team that
- 2:00:35Speaker 6: finished seven and ten.
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: But even in that argument, Paul, you're talking about the
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: whole team. There's no doubt that the Rams have a
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: talented team. That's the point. That's why has the edge, Right,
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: you got the number two seed.
- 2:00:49Speaker 3: All this other stuff has just created a whole lot
- 2:00:51Speaker 3: of noise about this, the whole MVP discussion where it's like,
- 2:00:54Speaker 3: you know, the pro May people are talking about Stafford's
- 2:00:56Speaker 3: one yard touchdowns and the anti may people are talking
- 2:00:59Speaker 3: about mazie schedule.
- 2:01:00Speaker 1: Doesn't this all just kind of like they each have
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: like these you know.
- 2:01:04Speaker 3: Context caveats, and like just look at it straight up,
- 2:01:07Speaker 3: and who had the better season?
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: And it was Drake May, and I would.
- 2:01:10Speaker 6: Just look at it like that's your opinion, like whatever
- 2:01:12Speaker 6: you deem important.
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: I'm not like the caller came in.
- 2:01:15Speaker 6: He thinks it's important that it needs to be a
- 2:01:17Speaker 6: number one or number two seed that so his pick
- 2:01:20Speaker 6: is going to be waited on that. I don't look
- 2:01:23Speaker 6: at that important. I look at it more important as
- 2:01:25Speaker 6: May doesn't have pooka nakula and that really weighs heavily
- 2:01:29Speaker 6: for me. And that's what I'm basing my view.
- 2:01:32Speaker 1: It'll come down to the fact that they hate us,
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: and that's fine. That's the way it was amazing. I
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: am going to have a victory rap if Drake May
- 2:01:39Speaker 1: wins the m v P.
- 2:01:40Speaker 6: The amount of catterwauling that has gone on around New
- 2:01:43Speaker 6: England for the last month and a half, if May
- 2:01:46Speaker 6: wins this and the amount of crying.
- 2:01:50Speaker 1: It's always about the amount of bitching about. It's always
- 2:01:57Speaker 1: the it's it's there, it's this.
- 2:02:01Speaker 6: They're gonna give him a lifetime achievement of that day.
- 2:02:03Speaker 1: My eight.
- 2:02:03Speaker 6: If somebody called in and said, what if they snub
- 2:02:06Speaker 6: him for these Super Bowls?
- 2:02:08Speaker 1: Like talk about blaming people for things that haven't happened.
- 2:02:11Speaker 5: Yet.
- 2:02:12Speaker 1: All right, they might give it to seppeaking of things
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: that haven't happened yet. Tomorrow's show. We'll be back at noon,
- 2:02:18Speaker 1: catch twenty two at tomorrow. How's Barth doing. Bar's doing good. Yeah,
- 2:02:22Speaker 1: he's doing good. He's recovered from all his holiday gigs
- 2:02:25Speaker 1: and all that. Oh yeah, he's recovered.
- 2:02:27Speaker 3: He's gonna he's doing four hours on Sunday, kickoff on
- 2:02:30Speaker 3: Sunday morning. Okay, and maybe somebody might be making a
- 2:02:33Speaker 3: surprise appearance.
- 2:02:34Speaker 1: Really about it? All right, that's good, all right, thanks
- 2:02:39Speaker 1: for watching today. We'll see you tomorrow. Hey, this is Alex.
