- 0:02Hello, and welcome back to my channel.
- 0:03My name is Lorraine cod4 and this is bunted laurentia.
- 0:07For today's episode. I want to talk about the
- 0:09priorities of our African parents who are living in
- 0:13diaspora these topics that are on social media.
- 0:17When a man posted a video of himself being chased out of the
- 0:22house by his Caribbean wife. He was complaining bitterly that
- 0:28in the Aspera women have the power.
- 0:31We may not The ones that chased me out of the house.
- 0:33But in Nigeria, it is the man that she's the woman out of the
- 0:37house. He said the bills the house
- 0:39together and now she is just throwing him out of the house
- 0:43with just even few suitcases. So and he was talking about he
- 0:49that he's going to tell his story that the wife is this, the
- 0:53wife is that. So people that are having this
- 0:55conversation, somebody said, listen, he knows the family.
- 0:59One of the reasons why the wife is fed up of him is because he
- 1:04has kids in the UK, he is leaving the upkeep of the
- 1:08children to the UK government. So, she is saying, listen, we
- 1:13have this money instead of U building houses in Nigeria,
- 1:16instead of you paying all the school fees of your community.
- 1:20People who are you living your children to take loans, to go to
- 1:25school? Why don't we just put something
- 1:27together that we're going to use to pay their school fees, and he
- 1:30was like, I was trusting ourselves being their school
- 1:33fees when the government when they can get a student loan to
- 1:37go to school. So she said, why do our kids
- 1:40need to get student loans? They are graduating with over
- 1:4450,000 pounds of loans. While the people in Nigeria, you
- 1:48just paying off their school fees.
- 1:49They are graduating starting life with zero loans while your
- 1:53children are saddled with over 50,000 pounds loon.
- 1:57That's why do you want to do that to your children instead of
- 2:00those houses? Your beauty Nigeria instead of
- 2:03the Investments your vision Nigeria.
- 2:05Why don't you invest your children according to this
- 2:08person? The man said that the best
- 2:11investment you could give them, was you having them in the UK.
- 2:17So that is there set for life. You know, he doesn't need to do
- 2:21anything for them. They can take the student loan,
- 2:26go to school, get a good job and start up their life.
- 2:30So this was the issue. They will have been one of these
- 2:33conversations was going on a lady, came out and said, listen,
- 2:37I have a dad and a mom who are both in the medical field.
- 2:40They were any good money. They what they focused on was
- 2:44more importantly, building in Nigeria.
- 2:46They were buying houses to buy land, they were doing all those
- 2:50things. And when it was time for us to
- 2:52go to school, they access to not only get student loan or to get
- 2:56maintenance fee. So at the end of the day, we
- 2:59have all given not even Willing to support us financially, but
- 3:04these are the same people that were paying everybody, school
- 3:08fees in Nigeria. They were paying everybody's
- 3:13accommodation fees, you know, helping us everybody gets their
- 3:17kids in the UK and left in the mercy of the government.
- 3:21This lady said this is why she didn't go to school because she
- 3:23talks about how she's going to get into all these decades
- 3:27before her life even begin. So she was like telling her And
- 3:31if you could help me out, even if it's to get half of this
- 3:35money, I am happy to do that. You pay have so that, at least I
- 3:39will be evil. It would be too much for me and
- 3:43the parents, basically to the you are entitled, we you had a
- 3:47better life than we did. We were able to make good things
- 3:51for ourselves and now you have all the opportunity to do things
- 3:54for yourself. You know, you're still expecting
- 3:56us to pay your school fees. So it was just a background.
- 4:01Forth conversation and I sat down and talked about these
- 4:04things and I'm like, in Nigeria, if you have parents who can
- 4:08afford to pay their children's school fees, I mean people in
- 4:12Nigeria, pay ridiculous amount of school fees to send their
- 4:16children to very good Primary School, very good, secondary
- 4:20school and two public universities.
- 4:23Sometimes this parents, they don't even have much for
- 4:26themselves. They don't have investment.
- 4:28The investment is in their children because they, Leave
- 4:31that you do this children are going to grow up to take care of
- 4:35us, but was the same parents cross over to the UK is, as if
- 4:41the disable of that that does deliver about believe at the
- 4:47airport, when they come to the UK, they think, okay.
- 4:51The best thing I can do for you is to have have, you know, my
- 4:54children here and the government's can do the rest.
- 4:57This is causing a whole lot of damage in our community.
- 5:00This is why Why a lot of African parents, they cannot pass down
- 5:05wealth to their children, you see a lot of them, they are
- 5:09making all their investment in Africa.
- 5:12There was this other lady that said, harmone, you know, how mom
- 5:16is a single mom and she grew up, she the most under any benefits
- 5:21that you could think of she was taking care of collecting
- 5:25everything that she could do, but she was also doing
- 5:27businesses but all the money. She was getting from that
- 5:30business. She was These will Africa.
- 5:32She was building this house. She was reading a human would
- 5:35have time to take care of our because she was running from one
- 5:39evil job or because they you can get a job that they pay you
- 5:43cash. So she said, her mom was busy
- 5:45doing all these things. Her mom didn't even care about
- 5:48her. She said she was the one that
- 5:50struggled to get an education, she got student loan fashion
- 5:55left, the house when she was 18 and she was able to go to
- 6:01Chicago. Just got into Care at some
- 6:03points because even if you're 18, are you cannot take care of
- 6:06yourself, the government is going to take care of you.
- 6:09He said at that point she just got into K.
- 6:11This was the place that you do. The government's actually took
- 6:14full responsibility of her upkeep.
- 6:16They gave our money. They did everything.
- 6:18She was able to go to school. She graduated while the man was
- 6:22busy training, every family member in Nigeria, you know,
- 6:28people are looking at her like this woman is this woman is that
- 6:32While high child is literally suffering in the UK.
- 6:36When she talked to people in Nigeria in her relations are
- 6:39moms, siblings. They tell her you're very
- 6:43selfish. You're already in the UK.
- 6:45Why are you stressing your mom? We in Nigeria was suffering.
- 6:49We need the money more than you need the money since your
- 6:53governments can help you, why don't you go to your government,
- 6:56we in Nigeria, cannot go to our governments because this is how
- 6:59it is, and she said, I was able to get scholarships so she
- 7:05studied very hard. Go scholarship.
- 7:07Few Roots exam, she passed. She got into tertiary
- 7:10institutions, she got her degree and Masters and everything that
- 7:14she needed. Now, the mom everybody that she
- 7:17took care of in Nigeria, they all abandoned her.
- 7:21And now, the mom is expecting her to take care of her.
- 7:26They are saying, our parents are selfish.
- 7:29This is not right. This is not wrong.
- 7:31And for our other friends who may be a white from other
- 7:37Nationals that their parents that are doing where they pay
- 7:40their school fees, they don't allow their children to get to
- 7:42the moon. In fact, they saved our in.
- 7:46When you're graduating, they give you deposit house deposit
- 7:50for you to get a house and start up your life.
- 7:53They are always behind their other friends, who are not of
- 7:57African descent, who are not immigrants.
- 7:59Because these same Parents pay their school fees decent.
- 8:04Parents give them money to buy houses and before they get to
- 8:0830, the already established, they are fine and that is
- 8:11exactly what they're going to do for their own children.
- 8:14So I think after listening to this whole conversation I
- 8:17realized that we have a problem. The question I want to ask is
- 8:23who do we blame the Woodland, our Nigerian or African parents
- 8:28in diaspora who believed that the best we can You is giving
- 8:33birth to you in diaspora now the government's you can the
- 8:37government and take care of you. If you want to go to school even
- 8:41for PhD level, you can always get a loan to take care of
- 8:44yourself as your way to school, you shoot, you're supposed to be
- 8:48working because as long as you're 16 the send you and I so
- 8:52you in you have to stop working from the age of 16.
- 8:55So they believe that even at, you know, going to the
- 8:58university, you have to take care of yourself and And then
- 9:01after graduation, have to get a job to take care of yourself,
- 9:04while you're paying your student loan, and this kids are saying
- 9:08we need help. Instead of all these your
- 9:10investments in Africa invest in US instead of paying every other
- 9:14people school fees in. Nigeria, why don't you pay our
- 9:17school fees? So that when we graduate we
- 9:19don't have this problem. Why don't you save something
- 9:23that I can give us a down payment for a house?
- 9:25That's like everyone I can put that we know so that world's
- 9:28creation can continue. So the question is where are we
- 9:31going? Blame.
- 9:32I will going to blame the African parents living in
- 9:35diaspora who believe that having children in desperate need of
- 9:39giving them the best that they can.
- 9:41And those back home in Africa, need better help than the
- 9:46children here, so they believe that.
- 9:48Okay, you go to do everything. Chase for yourself, get money,
- 9:52take care of yourself and survive.
- 9:56Wow, we believe that those in Africa because of the, you know,
- 10:00little You see that they have, they feel that they need to pay,
- 10:04you know, help them pay school fees and all that.
- 10:07While trying to invest in Africa, how do we solve this
- 10:11problem? How do we help people?
- 10:13Because regardless of whether you are parents in Africa, or
- 10:19your appearance in the UK, I think the best thing that we
- 10:22need to start thinking about is wealth transfer.
- 10:26Well, not just world's creation was transfer.
- 10:29I think was our African parents Focus.
- 10:31Moron is what does wealth creation?
- 10:34But welts display, you know, because if not like, oh I want
- 10:41to show people that I have, I have this success amount of
- 10:45success. And what they do is they go to
- 10:48the Village to put all this money, they were to the Village
- 10:50to do all these things. I'm not saying, you know, this,
- 10:53these are not good Investments but if that investment is not
- 10:57generating any income, if you built a house and it's just
- 11:00sitting down there and it's not Generating an income.
- 11:03How is that? Helping you and your children?
- 11:06How is that helping you? Especially the parents African
- 11:09parents in diaspora? You're not pay your student
- 11:12school fees, and now they are going to touch her institution.
- 11:15I you're happy for them to go get a loan to pay their school
- 11:19fees While You're Building invested in Nigeria and pain.
- 11:24Everybody's confused in. Nigeria, how does that help your
- 11:27children? How does that?
- 11:28Help your children in the future?
- 11:30If your children, are we One down.
- 11:31See we don't know you. We cannot take care of you
- 11:35because we have problems. I hear a lot of people say kids
- 11:38born in diaspora and you don't take care of that parents.
- 11:41Have you actually sat down to think about why these children
- 11:45are not doing too? Is because they are graduating
- 11:48already. They have like 50,000 pounds
- 11:50long that they are taking their going to be servicing on a
- 11:53monthly basis. They're going to get a house
- 11:56that way to start living their life.
- 11:58They are also going to have children.
- 12:00So regardless of what Drn in all this money is coming out of the
- 12:03accounts, they have bills to pay.
- 12:05And then this Terrance thinking, oh, I gave that to you now,
- 12:09you've graduated. Now you have to start giving me
- 12:12all this money and they are saying we don't have all this
- 12:15money, you didn't make life easier for Ross.
- 12:18How can we give you all this money?
- 12:20And these two people, these two generation of people don't even
- 12:23understand each other. Because one is blaming the other
- 12:26and the other is blaming the other.
- 12:28So how do we even start solving this problem?
- 12:31How We communicate and advise these people, I don't know.
- 12:35So I would say leave a comment in the comment section.
- 12:40I like to know what you think. I like to know your views, I
- 12:43want to know how you think that this can be solved.
- 12:45Because if we do not think about world creation, not just wealth
- 12:50creation, or how to transfer World from one generation to the
- 12:54other. What are you living in
- 12:55Desperate? What are you living in Africa?
- 12:58Think about these things. Don't think about.
- 13:01Oh, I don't plant a tree today because I am not going to stay
- 13:05there to enjoy it. Your children are going to enjoy
- 13:08it. Your great-great grandchildren
- 13:10are going to enjoy it and it's not about oh let me do something
- 13:14in the village so that when my children are visiting, they're
- 13:16going to have a place to stay. Love is no investment where they
- 13:21are, that they can actually capitalize on if they cannot
- 13:24capitalize on their investment. The reality is you're
- 13:27terminating with your village. This new generation of I think
- 13:32I'll go to the village and stay. There will tell they don't stay
- 13:35in the house that you built today.
- 13:36So it's more like you just want to show people that you become
- 13:41successful by building the house.
- 13:43How is it helping your generation?
- 13:45I want our African parents to actually sit down and think
- 13:49about these things before you invest, think about your
- 13:52children before you invest. Think about world's creation
- 13:55before you invest in a wealth transfer.
- 13:57Think about how your grandchildren are going to
- 14:00benefit from From all these things.
- 14:03Okay? So thank you very much for
- 14:05watching. Today's episode.
- 14:07Bye bye.
