- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department podcast.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: I am your host, Sean Boyle, and joining me today is Team Mike and Mike.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: We have Michael Collins, we have Michael Blum.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Blummy, I'll start with you.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: How are things?
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: Hello, Sean.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: I am doing well.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: Um, I just got done eating those um chocolate covered frozen banana slices from Trader Joe's.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Phenomenal.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: So so I'm I'm ready to go.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: And listeners, please take note of that audio quality.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: He has joined this the Riverside recording as Mike Blum, spelled M-I-C.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: It is much appreciated.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: We might need to work on a camera for the lad next, but boy, am I happy to get the mics situated.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: Baby steps.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Michael Collins, how are you?
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Sean, I'm great.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: One of the best weeks of the year coming up.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Uh, Masters.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: We just had the uh national championship, so I'm absolutely buzzing with excitement.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Yes, a lot going on at the moment for sure.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: If you guys have not done so already, please go ahead and check out the Augusta National Deep Dive I did with my associate Michael Collins last week.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: We put it out Monday.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: It should serve as an evergreen podcast where we kind of dive deep into some of the allure of the masters.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Also, the main event is we went hole by hole and named all the holes after famous songs, which we both enjoyed doing.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: I think that one is one you should check out before you listen to this.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: This episode is going to serve as mostly a master's preview, but before we get to that, we do have to tie a bow on the college basketball season.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: We're going to bring back the Tortured Fans of the Week, and we are also going to give you the best things we saw this week.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: So let's start with the final four.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: I have a shout out first and foremost.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: This guy, Mike Halbiger, who won the Tortured Fans bracket challenge, a complete tour de force from this guy.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: He finished 460th in the world.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: So, Mike, please DM me to claim your prize.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Well done to you.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Outstanding performance.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: I don't think we could have won it if we pulled a lot of our brackets together.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: I think if you would have given me the results beforehand, I still wouldn't have felt out a bracket as good as Mike's.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: So shout out to you.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: Mike taking over this one.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Mikes are on top.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: Mike's run the world, I suppose.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Let's start with the Saturday games from the Final Four.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: The first one was Dan Hurley, outlasting Brad Underwood.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Yukon beats Illinois.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: What did you guys think about this one?
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: This was a fine game.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: I obviously was more excited for the nightcap, but Illinois to me kept it close enough where I was intrigued, but I never felt that they had the juice to overcome.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Like I feel like they were down by 10 points the entire second half, and it felt like 20 to some extent.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: But uh definitely Hurley and the boys deserved the the win to uh to go to the championship game.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: They they did their best to make it interesting there.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: I think they they cut it to like six at one point, but Yukon was just too much for him.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Uh too many shot makers on that side.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Hurley is an absolute psycho.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Sean, it's been a little bit since I've talked hoops on this show with you.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Uh the the move that he pulled with the official with the pseudo headbutt after the Duke game, just wild, wild stuff.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: So the Hurley, he's always entertaining at the very least.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: As a former Pedro Stoyakovic guy myself, uh it was awesome getting a chance to see his son do his thing out there.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: He was a beast all tournament.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Um, had a big game against Iowa to get to the Final Four, so that was fun, fun stuff to see.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Hats off to uh Illinois on a nice little Final Four run there.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's basically all I had as well.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: It was a decently entertaining game, not enough for us to switch off or turn something else on, which I guess is all you could ask for because we had some stinkers throughout the tournament.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Hurley, you said it, Collins, uh complete psychopath, so I was happy he was able to prevail and we got another knight of his antics.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: He is just must see.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: I still don't know how we don't have a full-blown Hurley cam on one of these alternate channels.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: I believe we had the national championship game on three different networks, and not one of them could get me a dedicated little picture-in-picture of Dan Hurley throughout the game, so that was disappointing.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: But a great season for Illinois.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Interested to see if they returned some of their foreign flavor for next season.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: A lot of bitches on their team, and it worked for them.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, they were pretty old, they were pretty European, and they made their first Final Four in a long time.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: So a hat tip to Brad Underwood and his crew.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Michigan dominated Arizona in the second game.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know if anybody saw this one come.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Arizona was, I thought, by far the best team in the country throughout the whole year.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: They were my pick to win it all.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: I feel like as uh as college basketball fans, we knew how good Michigan was, but we just kind of overlooked them to an extent just because they were Michigan and you had like your Dukes, your Floridas, your Arizona's in the field.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: But um, I was not mad this was a snoozer because I mean if you give me like a 9:30 p.m.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: Eastern time start time, and I could be bit by 11 and not have to worry about what did I miss, then no complaints for mine.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree, Blum.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: I thought that Arizona had the best chance to match up uh with Michigan head to head.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: It was shocking to me.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Everyone and their mother had this one game, uh, this game pegged as the game of the year, uh, and basically right out of the gate, it it fell flat on its face.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: So uh sort of a bummer there on the late night.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I believe I called this a clash of the titans on the podcast leading up to it.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Boy, was I wrong about that.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: In fact, Yaxel Lindeborg got hurt pretty early on in this one, and it didn't even matter.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: They just steamrolled them regardless.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: I have to say though, Blum, you talked about the ninth start time.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: What a disgrace this was, and I think it's all down to the chain smokers.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: That's who I'm laying all this blame on.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: I don't know what we were doing having a concert in between games of the Final Four.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: I was worried about these guys getting shots up.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: I was uh fortunate enough to miss that.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: I just kind of turned the TL TV off in between games and was doing, you know, errands around the house.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: But uh I got back and I saw our group chat and I was like, I'm glad I missed this because it does not sound like it was good entertainment at all.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I also didn't see it live.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Uh very, very thankfully, I've seen uh a few clips of it, but yeah, that's a a pretty big disgrace.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: When I mean I'm old enough to remember when people catered to the East Coast time.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, where what has happened to our I mean, last night's national championship game didn't tip off till nine o'clock.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: And I believe that was them trying to move in our direction because they released a statement saying, We hear you, East Coast.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: We're gonna try to start these championship games earlier.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: And I believe they bumped it up to 8 50.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: And that's what time this Illinois game was or the uh Michigan game was supposed to start on Saturday night, and then the two bozo chainsmokers got in the way and they had to deconstruct the stage like it was the Super Bowl.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Horrific, horrific year for halftime shows.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: It's a school night.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: There's there's 10-year-old Yukon diehards who couldn't stay up to watch the game.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: It's crazy.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Well, let's talk about the title.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: I think it was a decent game.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: I was very worried that we were gonna get a Michigan runaway after seeing Saturday's games.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm happy with Yukon's fight and kind of how they kept it close.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: As I mentioned, I was very happy to get another night of Hurley.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: We had a lot to react to in the first half.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: They sure did cover.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Hurley had a lot to react to in the first half.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: The refs were calling everything on the Huskies, and a lot of it did look like a foul.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: But it was just good, it was just good to see he was in national title game form himself.
- 8:13SPEAKER_02: And you knew that a Dan Hurley-led team was not going to go down easy.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: And um, I remember he said I think it was after like the under 16 or under 12 that like we have to make this as ugly as possible because we know that's the only shot we have of winning.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: And I feel like they did a good job of that, but Michigan was just that much better than them.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, Yaxel, you could tell, like he wasn't even close to 100%.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: Um, Pudeau, Amara, they're you know, more than willing to um shoulder that load.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: So uh definitely a very dominant and and deserved champion for Michigan.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, if you take it back to uh to just really to put a bow on the whole season, take it back to like November, December, Michigan was beating everybody they played by like 40, 50 points.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: And I think we said at that point, like, is Michigan just gonna kind of dominate everybody?
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: And they they teetered off a little bit later in the regular season, but that's basically exactly what happened in March.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: They kind of just dominated, but yeah, hats off to UConn on a great run as well.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Um, they it was a a solid game, and like you, Sean, I'm just glad it wasn't a blowout.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: I also had the the thought watching this game.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: I feel like there weren't a lot of great NBA prospects.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: Who do you guys think is the best?
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: And am I crazy for saying it's Mar?
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: No, I'm I'm right there with you.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: I thought Mara was by far the best player on the court in the Final Four.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: He dominated the Arizona game, which was full of just high-level, huge NBA prospects, in terms of size, that is, not in terms of caliber, but he dominated that game and then he basically negated the entire painted area of the floor for Yukon.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: When he was on the court, they could not go inside the paint, or else it was getting returned to sender.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: So I think for sure he was the guy who stood out the most to me.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: It was tough to tell with Lindaborg because he was the guy who was getting a lot a lot of lottery hype throughout the year, and obviously he was pretty hobbled in this one, so it was tough to tell.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: But I think between the three guys on Michigan, they had all of the pro talent on their side.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: So Yukon was certainly up against it.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: I think you could definitely make a case for some of the Yukon guys as late first, early second round picks, kind of good locker room guys, but in terms of high-end NBA talent, I think Michigan had by far the their fair share.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh of course Mara absolutely had his way.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: He really neutralized Terrace Reid, who was a guy who kind of uh he impressed me all through the all through March, really.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Um, he had a great tournament.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: I think that he is someone who kind of improved his value.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: He could easily be uh a late first at this point and made himself a little bit of money uh in March.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: But yeah, Mara for sure.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: But just a shout out to Keaton Waggler as well in the uh Final Four run that Illinois had.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: He was an absolute dog the entire time.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: And in a year where we saw a lot of um our top prospects in uh Darren Peterson and AJ Dubansa and and the like, uh, they were out a little bit earlier.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Uh Waggler was the one guy who's a likely top five, top six pick uh who was really incredible all the way through the Final Four.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I agree with you on Waggler.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: I also would just shout out Trey McKinney on Michigan.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: He was a freshman who I'm not sure what his NBA prospects look like.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Admittedly, I don't watch enough regular season NBA basketball now to tell you what that league is looking for necessarily.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: But I can tell you this this guy is a winner, and as a true freshman from Flint, Michigan, he was outstanding throughout the whole season for them.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: It felt like anytime they needed a big bucket, they turned to him, and he was just really good throughout.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: And that's what I think made that Michigan team so great.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: You can get down the list of like name five or six guys that stepped up when they needed to.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: And I mean, obviously very well coached as well.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: Dusty May has proved himself to be a great coach at a high-level school.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: And uh, I guess that's credit to him too, to you know, developing those players and instilling that confidence.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: And I think you saw that with Cadeau first and foremost, just the confidence factor.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: He would not shoot the ball last year with Carolina, and this year hit several big shots along the way to a national title.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Collins, I thought what you said about Michigan was 100% right.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: I remember it was Thanksgiving Eve for out of the bar drinking, and you look up, and Michigan's beaten, I think, Gonzaga by about 50, and you're like, well, Gonzaga's usually a pretty good program.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I wonder what happened there.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Michigan must be pretty good.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: And I guess there was some reason to doubt throughout the season, but it ended much how it began.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: So congrats to the Michigan Wolverines.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Really couldn't happen to a more unlikable bunch, if I do say.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: I just I'm sick of seeing Michigan win things.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: So hopefully next year this doesn't turn into a dynasty of sorts, but congrats to them.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Let's move on to our tortured fans of the week.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna start with you, Michael Blum, because I think you have a good one.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: So my Tortured Fans of the Week are any fans, if there are any out there, of the uh Highland Community College baseball team.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: Uh before I get into the story, I think all you guys remember the famous baseball play in the 90s, Jose Conseco goes up, tries to rob a home run, jumps into the wall, the ball hits his head, over the fence, home run.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: So Highland is 5-27.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: That's their record.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: Five wins, 27 losses.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: They were facing a Butler Community College, I believe, late last week over the weekend.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: I was bottom of the third, one-to-one game, you know, just a normal baseball game.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: A butler player hits the ball, fly ball.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: I would say, by the look of it, maybe 15 to 20 feet short of the wall.
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: Like the outfielder was not on the warning track.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: Very clearly two feet touching grass.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: It might have been closer to 40.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is a routine flyball.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: It was a candy corn, and um the ball just completely misses his glove right off of the noggin.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: The ball flies 20 feet backwards, home run.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Insane.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Absolutely unbelievable.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad you put this in the dock.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: We're also huge amongst Highland Community College students, so I I think they'll they'll definitely love this.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: But I I saw this highlight and I I couldn't believe it.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: I had to watch it several times before learning it was not a.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the you know, the college baseball uh angles and cameras that we get are obviously not normally the best.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: It looked to me like he was a full five or six strides in front of the warning track on that.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: It was a big fence, too.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: This was the green monster, but it wasn't it wasn't a normal fence.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: It's not a shorty.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: And I need to see a picture of the the guy's forehead, the center fielder's forehead, because that he had to have had a goose egg on that thing.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: If that was me, I would have gone down like a ton of bricks.
- 15:15unknown: Yeah.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: You also like he played off fairly well, too.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he did, but I also like in just in terms of shame, I would have gone down in a heap saying, Oh my god, it would have felt like a gunshot.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: You would have I would have had to be stretchered off.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: I was not going just like, oh well, it looks like it has a home run now.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: Because boy oh boy, that's that's tough to go for a home run.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: If you're the pitcher, I'd like a few words with him once that head swelling goes down.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't wait for the swelling, I would go right at him.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Just right at him, punch him in the same spot, make it blend in.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Also, do you guys think that should be a home run?
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: I kind of think it has to be, right?
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Because if you're calling that a ground rule double, then there's really no repercussions to trying to rob a home run.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a home run.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: I don't think there's any question.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that should be a home run.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Definitely a tortured fan base as well, especially his loved ones, friends and family.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Tough week for them.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Collins, what do you have?
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: Uh, Sean, I struggled to find a tortured fan this week, so I went overseas here.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Um a rapper by the name of Kanye West.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, he now goes by Ye.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: Um, if there are any sad sack fans of his left, which it appears like there's quite a few, uh, they are my tortured fan this week, fans of Kanye West.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Um, he was barred from the United Kingdom.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Um he was slated to headline some type of major uh music festival over there, barred from the United Kingdom, I believe the country as a whole.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Um he's being denied entry because uh quote, his presence would not be conducive to the public good.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Uh after years and years of anti-Semitic things that he has said and done and just general outlandishness.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: So um today, if you are a Kanye West fan, still somehow uh you've been tortured for quite a long time.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: But if you bought tickets for this festival that has now been canceled, uh you are tortured.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's the famous saying, separate the art from the artist, but then there's a special few that you just can't quite do that for.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: That they that their behavior just exceeds anything you could tolerate.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: And Kanye has definitely found himself in that camp over the years.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: So I think this is a good one.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: It reminds me of another great story you brought to the podcast where uh Chapel Roan was banned from performing in Rio de Janeiro.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: So really tough couple of months here for some US stars outside of the domestic territory of the United States.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: And that's something that we we might not do enough of here in the US of A, is just straight up ban people from entering a specific space.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: Can we start banning?
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Can we ban like uh can we ban the Dallas Cowboys roster from Philadelphia?
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: I do agree with you on the banning concept.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: I'm not so sure about the Cowboys, but they're there it's America's team, by the way.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: But I think I think we could definitely start throwing some bands around.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: And if if nobody listens to us, we can at least try to run it up the ladder.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: I think worst case scenario, we just create a official Tortured Fans Department band list and just hope that one of the higher-ups in this world gets wind and then we get full crowd.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: I like banned by the tortured fans.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: T-shirts coming soon.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: My Tortured Fans of the Week were fans of the WMBA, the women's game in Chicago.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: Devastating stuff for them.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: As it appears, we have a tanking situation on our hands.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: A lot of the Chicago Sky faithful in the last few years have rushed to the defense of one Angel Reese, despite some outlandish behavior by her as well.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: She has been shipped out of town to the Atlanta Dream.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: It has made Atlanta a serious contender as a Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever, all 82 fan.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Not exactly looking forward to seeing Atlanta now in the playoffs.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Tough, tough week for Chicago Sky Faithful.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: What what type of haul did they get back for, Sean?
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Do you know?
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: I would say pennies on the dollar, couple picks.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: I think it was machine.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: It was two, I think two first round picks and a second round pick swap, which I mean in the WNBA, I don't know how that value equates to like a first round in the NBA, but it wasn't nothing.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: No, that's that's pretty good, actually.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Two firsts.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: I thought it was two seconds, but I think you're right, it was two firsts.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: So that's not it, hey, it ain't nothing, but a couple of bad years ahead for Chicago Sky.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Hate to see tanking ruining the women's game as well.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Let's flip the script.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do best thing you saw.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: I will start because it is once again on the topic of women's basketball.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: This was an easy one for me.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: This was a Philly-on-philly crime that happened in the women's final four.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: It was Don Staley and Gino Ariema getting into it in the handshake line.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: I believe Gino has since apologized and said, hand up, it was my fault.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Longtime listeners will know we are big fans of a hand-up apology here.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: You toss your hand up, you can get away with basically anything.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: But that doesn't stop me from putting you down as the best thing I saw this week.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Specifically, when Don said I'll beat Gino's ass several times when hyping up her bench, saying I'll beat his ass.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: That's good stuff.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Don, the Temple Owl.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: We love that.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: She she would beat his ass too, big time.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, what are the what are the odds on that?
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: It's gotta be Don minus 180, 1200, maybe.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: I mean Gino's only 250.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I don't know.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's just that's Philly Burbs versus North Philly for you.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: That's yeah, it's an attitude complete 180.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Yep, exactly right.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: So the best thing I saw this week uh came via Artemis 2.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Uh, if you missed it, this is a a NASA operation that they're calling a lunar flyby mission.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Um, so essentially they just they sent a rocket up there, did a little lap around the moon, or currently are doing said lap.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Just a day or two ago, the astronauts on board became uh the humans to have traveled the furthest distance away from planet Earth.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: So they're the furthest that we've ever been in outer space.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Kind of crazy.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: The pictures are insane that they're uh putting out there.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: If you haven't seen them, I highly suggest it.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Looks truly like green green screen type shit, but yeah, it's it Artemis 2 was wild.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: I saw there was a live stream.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: Um Um, and you could see the astronauts in their zero gravity situation up there is really just crazy all around.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Collins, I'm very glad you put this one down because this was going to be mine if somebody else had the Don Staley one already taken.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: I watched the launch of this thing, and I will say these launches they get a lot of attention and they're cool.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Don't get me wrong, they're cool, but they're cool for about 10 seconds.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: It's the 10-9 countdown and then lift off.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: And then they get to be about the size of a golf ball in the air, and we just can't track them that well.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: So it's like, hey, what are we doing?
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: I did not realize that we hadn't been to the dark side of the moon, as they call it, since I want to say the 80s or 70s.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: It's been that long.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: I thought, hand up, I thought we were going to space every day now.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: I thought Elon was sending some celebrities up.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: I thought this was a pretty routine thing.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: I guess it's just a lot further than my little brain realized to get to the other side of the world.
- 22:54unknown: Yeah.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: You know, it's I I didn't realize how far that truly is either.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: And I guess we haven't have have humans been to Mars?
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Probably not, I guess, because I would be much further if this is the furthest we've traveled.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I digress.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Uh we're big space guys here.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Check out the pictures.
- 23:16unknown: Yeah.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: And correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't there a story coming out of this where one of the astronauts named one of the craters on the moon after his like deceased wife?
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: They were name, they were naming things.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: There was naming going on for sure.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: So if you go up there and just see it, you could just hand out some names.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: I don't hate that.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: That's the Collins Discovery Right.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: Collins crater.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: That's what I was getting at.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: What's the process you have to go through to get a name approved on a official move crater?
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: It sounds like it's not that extensive if we're just throwing out names for everyone, but that was a cool story.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: No, it's similar to claiming young Venezuelans for the MLB.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Whoever sees it first gets it.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Also, tough, tough that I learned one of the astronauts, I believe four people went up.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: One of them was Canadian.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure how you feel about that, Collins, as a proud American.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: I feel like that rubs me the wrong way just a little bit.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: I I disagree, Sean.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Uh on NASA is an American company.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: NASA's an American company.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: And as Americans, it's it's our duty to find the best and the brightest.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: And if that means one of our brothers up north, brothers or sisters up north, then come on down and and get your feet wet and let's head on up there.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: And also, I mean, we beat them in hockey, beat them in baseball.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: Like I feel like it's nice of us to it's a peace treaty.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: So last night, uh, my girlfriend and I, we watched the Lamar Odom documentary on Netflix.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Um, for those unfamiliar, Untold is doing a series on Netflix, just chronicling different athletes, their stories.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: And I'm not like the biggest documentary guy.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: I feel like I'm very skeptical of how much they put in, like, what's real, like how much are they not telling us?
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: I walked away from this documentary feeling very fulfilled.
- 25:12SPEAKER_02: It was raw, it was comprehensive.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: It went over minute by minute the night of his like near fatal overdose in the brothel, where he had, I think it was like 12 strokes, six heart attacks.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: And my biggest takeaway from this documentary is Chloe Kardashian is mother Teresa.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: Like the stuff that she stood by this guy for after he divorced her, cheated on her, and then like I'm sure she had a heavy hand in producing this to make her look good, but my biggest takeaway was this Chloe Kardashian, not a bad guy.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Well, that is breaking news here on the Torture Fans because I had her pegged for a dead beat and a loser.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: But Blum, I am also with you on the documentary thing.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: It's very important that you get to the bottom of who produced and directed it.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: Because a lot of times how you come away feeling from the documentary is directly correlated to whoever was behind the wheel steering this thing.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: So I would not put it past the Kardashians and having a heavy hand in this one.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: Like we thought for sure Chris Jenner was heavy on the production.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: Her name was nowhere in the credits.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: Maybe she just wants to seem like a third party, not no bias, but was there a bruise?
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: Jeez.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: I thought I saw a Kalen somewhere.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: See, stay vigilant.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: But that's that's good, that's good to know.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the Lamar Odom story is crazy itself, so I think it's worth it if you're unfamiliar just to watch for for that aspect.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: All right, boys.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: The main event.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Are you ready?
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Let's do it.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: So it is time for the master's preview.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: We have a few different segments we're going to do, but we're going to start with just our general vibes heading into the week.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: The most important thing I have, and I'm hoping you guys can answer it, is I'm hoping for a clean, good weather week.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: What's the weather looking like?
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: How's the course expected to be?
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: Could somebody please fill me in?
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it looks it.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: I think it looks really good weather.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, it's gonna get hot on the weekend, I believe.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: Saturday is like 80-ish.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Um, but to my knowledge, there's no rain expected.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: Um, it might be uh it's gonna be a little bit softer Thursday and Friday morning potentially, but uh I think overall we're we're looking real good.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: For me, couldn't be more perfect conditions.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: I think having it dry out by the weekend is ideal uh just for the conditions.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: And then also from uh I always like the course and how it changes.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: I know I think it was last year we had the hurricane that destroyed a lot of the course.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: So I was curious to see, you know, from a tree's perspective, like would anything be different?
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: And no, they just got the course right back to where it was.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: The only main difference is the 17th T-Box will just be moved up 12 yards, which is very minor, I feel like, from past years.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, the course looks to be in pristine shape, so uh looking forward to watching.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: That's that's very good to hear.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: To add on to your point, they they did lose a a good number of trees, I think, going into last year's uh masters, like you said, because of weather and things like that.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: I heard on a live show via the uh no laying up podcasts, who we're friends of here, uh, that Sally had said that the 10th hole specifically, it actually looks like to him in on it via his naked eye, um it looks a little bit thinner even on the on the tenth hole uh on the left side.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: So it's just interesting to see if that particular tee shot, which is normally a tough one, if that kind of becomes easier and easier via lost trees, but that's nothing confirmed, nothing more than really like a rumor from an untrained eye, really.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, but yeah, bottom line, like we said, firm and fast is how we want it.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: I I really want I want these greens to be like trampolines.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: We don't want really anybody to hold the green here, in my opinion.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: That I completely agree.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: That's what makes a great masters, and that's the first box you have to check is just is it going to be dry?
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Because when rain gets in the way, Augusta does not play the same as when you truly get several days or weeks leading up to it where it's dried out without rain.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: I want it to turn a little brown.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: I know that's not as appealing visually, but I like it when it gets crusty.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: All right, let's talk about some storylines to watch.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: I I have to say I was struggling making a list here of things that I am actually looking forward to ahead of the tournament.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: As always, things will develop throughout Thursday and Friday that provide plenty of intrigue for the weekend, and they have me glued no matter what they do.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: So they don't have to worry about lots of viewership here.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: But I guess my main storyline is there's nothing really looming out there that's gripping me ahead of the week.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: I think it's a little bit sad that we don't have Tiger or Phil playing in the Masters for the first time in forever.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think for me, all the big names, if you look at the odds, like the top five guys, where Scotty obviously just had a second kid, so he hasn't been playing.
- 30:29SPEAKER_02: His start of the year hasn't been great at all.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: If his swing looks off, it feels like he's like playing with something.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, you have Bryson and Rom, who I think have been playing great on the Lib Tour, but again, no one's watching that, so it's like they're not on our TVs.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a that's a true if a tree falls in the forest doesn't make a sound.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: Which, not to be uh a live guy, but there was a great playoff.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: Bryson beat Rom um a couple weeks ago, so he's trending.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: But yeah, all the top names I feel like haven't been like on our TVs, so we're kind of getting introduced back to them within the last month or two.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Um, also a little surprised that Scotty is by far the favorite with the way he's playing.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: Understand he's just a name now where we come to trust him, but also seeing those two live guys two and three uh with Ram and Bryson and nods is a little surprising to me.
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: Obviously, they're both playing well.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: They're you know, world golf ranking is is always there, it's always strong.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: But um, I was surprised to see more kind of PGA representation, like Aurory or I mean Matt Matt Fitzpatrick is playing, I think, the best golf of his career the last month.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: He's on every Sunday Leaderboard.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: So I think the overall storyline for me is like there's no clear-cut winner, and all the top guys, I feel like there's major question marks around each of the yeah.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: Blum, to build on your Scotty point, uh, I feel like this is kind of a huge year for him coming in uh to the Masters because, like you said, he has been very much out of form, at least for him.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think the stats will tell you that like his play around the green, uh pitching and chipping has been exceptional, which in previous Masters that he's won is kind of where he's excelled anyway.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: So we'll see if he can be able to do that.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: But in in history, the the ones who are great at Augusta, um, Tiger, Phil, Jordan Spith, what have you, they play well at Augusta regardless of forms.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: So it's very interesting to see him come in uh when he's not playing well to see if he can be one of those guys who is just gonna whip himself back into shape.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: One uh storyline I was very interested in in seeing was uh just general debutants uh at the Masters this year.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: Debutants do not normally uh fare very well in terms of contending or or winning the tournament.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: Uh Blum You had let us know, which I didn't realize, that there are 22 in the field, 22 out of 91 players in the field uh are debutants.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: And uh what I wanted to touch on was Chris Godderup.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: I think he's the first um four-time PGA tour winner to debut in like 50 plus years.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, the first guy who's coming in with four wins under his belt.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: He is an absolute mainstay in on PGA Tour leaderboards.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: So it will be really interesting to me to see how he can kind of perform in his first masters, uh, see if he can keep his hot start uh to his career going.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: And uh he's an easy guy to root for too.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: Bridgman is another one who's kind of just been all over the PGA leaderboards this year.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: So really interested in in all the debutants, but those two specifically see how they can uh start their career off here at uh Augusta.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Collins, we talked about it a little bit during our uh Augusta National Deep Dive, where course history matters a lot, not only for us as the viewer, but also just getting reps in at Augusta.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Typically, you are able to build on your performance instead of coming out guns blazing.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: We often, like you said, don't see a lot of successful debuts at Augusta.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: Very interested, Blum.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: 22 of the 91.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: That's a quarter of the field is playing it for the first time in a tournament.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: So that's shocking stuff.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Crazy.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: I do like the Chris Godderup mention because he's a guy who has played good golf on tough courses as well.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: And I think his game might translate pretty well to Augusta.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: It's just is he gonna be able to get around it the first time unscathed?
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's uh I think of the first timers, um he's run my one to watch just because again, won twice on tour very early on this year.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: He's kind of slumped a little bit recently, but um, I feel like he has the the mindset and the game to be in contention on a song.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Are there any other storylines we're monitoring before play begins on Thursday?
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: Well, we have to talk about Rory, of course.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, coming off of last year's win, completing the career grand slam, uh, getting the proverbial monkey off of his back, so to speak, that he he's just been chasing this white whale of a green jacket for his entire career.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: He's had uh ups and downs um both at Augusta and elsewhere, and uh has had collapses, has had second place finishes, and finally gets it done last year.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Is that gonna sort of be freeing for him in his uh defense here?
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Um, or is he gonna could just kind of fade back into the oblivion or or what's what's gonna happen with Rory?
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: I think he'll have a lot of eyes on him this week, of course, as a defender champion.
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think he's cemented himself, but again, he is uh the face of golf still.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: I do think he will have a strong week this week.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: He's again one of those the big name guys that we I feel like we just haven't seen a lot of this year um in terms of you know contention and you know like the the Valeros and the Um Arnold Palmer's, like those tournaments.
- 36:11SPEAKER_02: But I think I mean it's it's the Masters, it's Augusta.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: If you don't get up for this tournament as a golfer, what are you doing?
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: So I'm I think Rory will put together performance where we'll see him around on a Sunday.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a fine line that he has to balance now because it was always the monkey on his back, and he finally got rid of that, like you mentioned, but now it's about refocusing and being laser-like focused and trying to defend a championship.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: And it's an interesting line to balance for him because a lot of times we criticize him for looking a bit stressed out and almost forcing the issue of finally completing the career grand slam.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: Now it's the complete opposite where he could come in drunk after his champion's dinner off of some great wine and really have a laugh all weekend.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: I don't think anybody's gonna criticize him too hard.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: It's like a do you ride off into the sunset, or are is it like a all right, now let's go get another one type of deal.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: But uh, so yeah, that'll just be really interesting to see.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Anything else before we get to our draft?
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: I think I'm just ready to sit back and kind of sink my teeth into a golf tournament for the first time this year.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: I feel like I've watched golf, but there's nothing like Augusta, doesn't there's not a course that comes off better on TV.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: So that's what I think I'm most looking forward to.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: I'm right there with you.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: This is really beginning of my golf season, is this weekend.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: I have dabbled in a couple of tournaments.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: If some guys I like were in the leaderboard on Sunday, I would check it out a little bit, but I have not sat and watched much of any golf.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: So I'm excited for this week for sure.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: You guys know we are big fans of drafts here at the Tortured Fans Department.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: The boys have cooked up a little something to serve as not only a master's preview, but I believe a lunch wager is on the line here.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: So the winner of our draft, based on dollars earned, is going to have their lunch paid for by the other two bozos who do not win.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: Is that is that what it was agreed upon?
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: Something of the of the like, yeah.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: Do we got a max budget for this lunch?
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: I think let's keep it between the mustard and the mayo here.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, crazy.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: Okay, so the rules for the draft.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: We are drafting six players each, one of which has to be a past champion, one of which has to be an amateur, one of which has to be a lefty, and one has to be somebody we deem an old.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Now that is in the eye of the beholder, so those can be vetoed.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: If if you're trying to be disingenuous and sneak a young guy in there to pass off as an old, I think that will be vetoed by the other two.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: But just use your best judgment when drafting an old guy.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: That's all right.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: So four things have to be fulfilled in our six draft picks.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: Yep, and then you get two free picks.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: Uh as far as the the old goes, it's like the old saying, it it's like porn, you know it if you see it.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: You'll you'll know if you if if the guy is that you're drafting isn't old.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: You know it when you see it.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: If it's smut, we we have a good eye for that sort of thing.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: So I we have not done a draft order yet, but uh as the host, I would be happy to go third.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: I'll take first.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: I'll take the ball.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right, great, perfect.
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: Um, so I think I'm going to start this off and go with our oldie.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: And hopefully you guys know it when you see it.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: I'm going right.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: I think by far the best one on the board is Justin Rose.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: He was should have arguably maybe won last year in the playoff against Rory.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: The guy is timeless, aging like wine.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: He's become one of my most liked golfers over the last couple years, just his Ryder Cup performance demeanor seems like a great guy.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: So um Justin Rose is my oldie.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: Can't speak highly enough about that Ryder Cup performance right in the Americans' face.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: I was I was fist bumping right there with him.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he you you said it, he's aging like a noir, and I think that's a great pick.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: I would have been happy to have him on my team.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: I think it's smart to take your old off the board first.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: It's a very shallow pond.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: We're fishing in for olds.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're you're not wrong.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Uh second pick.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: I think I'm just gonna take uh the favorite of the tournament, Mr.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: Scott Scheffler.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Uh, we talked about how he is not in form, and hopefully he can just kind of snap back to it for me here.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: Um, but I feel like picking the second spot.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: I'll I'll put him down as my past champion uh slot um for roster moves' sake, but uh yeah, it would be silly of me to not take Scotty Shuffler here, I feel like.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: I was hoping you would uh forget to take him as your past champion and just take him as just Scotty, so very wise, very wise to do that.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: I think you guys both are pretty sure where I'm going here.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: It's I think the listener probably knows as well.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: I'm simply addicted to it.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: And every time I'm asked to do one of these things, I just can't help myself.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: So I'm taking one of my wildcard spots with Ludwig Aubert, just think he wins this week, or is right around that mix.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: He's played two masters, he's finished tied for third and seventh, I believe.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: So very happy to have Ludwig on my team.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: And then of course I'm gonna take my past champion, Jordan Speith.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: So I think that went without saying that he was an automatic pick to Team Boyle.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we saw this coming right when I read the uh the Google Doc sheet.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: I was like, all right, we know where Shawnee's going.
- 42:01SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: Colin's back.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Of course, that was intentional.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: I played it off as being a good host, but I was happy to just let my two guys come home.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, to highlight Ludwig, I said a couple weeks ago that that he's certainly somebody to watch.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, he has a couple of top 10 finishes.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: Um has a little bit less experience than other guys uh at the Masters, but the experience that he does have has been pretty spectacular.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Um, and he's been a force on the tour this year.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: He had a nice week last week, uh, should have won the players before he collapsed.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: So uh I think that those are two two strong picks there.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: Um I will bring it back, and this is another past champion, but I guess it's just gonna go under my free picks.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: This is my pick to win this year.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Uh the guy I will be backing is a live golf fella by the name of John Rom.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: One-two on the odds sheet for Michael Collins.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: They're not bad ones.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: It's not too bad.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of regretting my oldie pick now.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Well, I will say, Blum, if you didn't take Rosie, I would have considered that.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: It would have been tough to break up the gruesome twosome I took, but I would have considered Rosie because I do think he was the best in show for the olds.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: In terms of your locker room, though, Collins, I'm a bit worried already.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: A little bit of a a little bit of friction in that room between Scotty and Rom.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: I don't think they're the best of friends.
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: That's alright.
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: We don't we the actually competition breeds excellence, so that's what we want from our guys.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: That's that's fair.
- 43:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I am up for two.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: So I'm going to go with a former champ, and I'll go with Rory.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: Uh, I know we were just talking about him how.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: How will he respond to being a reigning champ?
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: And I think Scotty and Ron for me were the top two in terms of former champs, so happy to get Rory here.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: I feel like there's a bit of a drop-off after him, uh, with all due respect to your Sean uh speed pick.
- 44:17SPEAKER_02: But uh, I'll go Rory for the former champ, and I will go.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: I'll take my guy.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: Give me Xander as my uh my free space on my bingo card.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: I feel like he's due for a good master's performance.
- 44:34SPEAKER_02: He had a down year last year, he was injured all year, coming off with the two major wins in 24.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: Um, I think the core suits him well, his style of play, so happy to get uh my guy here with uh one of my free spaces.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: Bull, am I correct in saying that Xander is still your favorite golfer?
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: I want the listeners to be aware that your love for Xander knows no bounds.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't categorize it as knowing no bounds, but yes, he is my favorite golfer.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: I would consider it because no business picking him here in the third, although I'm pretty sure he has a pretty good record here at Augusta.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Xander Xander is a very, very popular winner pick this week.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: I I really like Xander uh going into this tournament.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Um he you he's a guy you can sort of just sharpie in as a top ten.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: Um he I don't know if if we're gonna still discuss it in a in a little bit here, but five out of his eight starts at Augusta, he had has finished top ten.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: So um he's gonna make you some money this week, Blum.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: There's no doubt.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: And so back to me.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: Um with a toughy choice here.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: Very interested to see where you go here.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: Ha ha.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: I am just I'm gonna use up my other free pick and take the next guy down on the odds list, um, and Blum's other guy, and he by the name of Bryson DeCambo, another live fella.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: Um, and I think he's gonna have he's another guy who like you don't really have to worry about Bryson.
- 46:13SPEAKER_00: You are pretty sure what's what he's gonna give you.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: He is pretty insufferable to watch, but he's uh brings a certain electricity with him, and uh, I know that he's gonna play good golf.
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: So I'll I'll take the top three uh odds, odds boys.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: So my my plan all along was hoping your hearts would get in your way of taking Bryson, that he would fall back to me, but that was a good I think he might win.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you said that about everybody, and let me just say this your strategy worked for me, Blum.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: Never in a million years would I put my name next to that guy's.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: So uh Collins' team is truly detestable.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: Gross stuff from him.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: One, two, three on the leader on the chalk leaderboard here.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm gonna go to the bottom.
- 46:59SPEAKER_00: I'm looking forward to my launch at Pogo de Chow.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: It'll be at McDonald's if you're lucky with this performance.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: That that's I mean, disgusting stuff.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: Takes one, two, three on the odds list, and all of which are pretty hateable guys.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: I kind of like Rom, but that's all I digress.
- 47:16SPEAKER_01: I will take my lefty, another guy who, like Collins, I'm gonna say he's gonna win this week, too.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna say it about everybody I take.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: Give me big shot Bob, another European Ryder Cup guy.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: Happy to have him in the ranks.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: I think lefties play well at Augusta, as many of you will know, and I think this is a big, big week for lefties.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: I really don't think he could go wrong with any of them.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: I just think he might be the best of the bunch.
- 47:41SPEAKER_02: He was my dark horse to win on our sheet.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: I think big shot Bob.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: He's been trending for a while, and uh I think he he has what it takes.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: I think the biggest thing with him is the consistency off the T.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: Sometimes he sprays the ball a bit, but I think he could get a big one.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: But I like him.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: I like him a lot this week.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's been dynamite uh on the approach, which I think is sort of an area that he struggled with uh at Augustus specifically.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: So uh yeah, he's easily the top lefty, I'd say.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: And then on my wraparound pick, I'm just gonna fill up my other free spot with just another one of my guys, just accumulating Sean Boyle's top men for the job, and there's no better man than Tommy Ladd.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: So give me Mr.
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: Fleetwood to round out my free picks.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: Do you also get his son in the par three contest?
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: For sure, I get Frankie too.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: And if he clears the water, I expect I expect a couple bucks on my total.
- 48:47SPEAKER_00: Frankie's a great pick.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: Tommy can't win.
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: We're just trying to make money here.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: We're just trying to make money.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: Hey, you're right.
- 48:55SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: Uh I am gonna go to the lefty category here and take a guy who's been white hot on the PGA tour this season, Akshay Batia.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: Um he did not, I believe he was he made his first master's start last year and did not do too hot.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, but looking forward to he's in tremendous form.
- 49:20SPEAKER_00: Um, and uh we talked about how great lefties are able to manage this course.
- 49:26SPEAKER_00: So uh looking forward to him hopefully being uh right up there with Big Shop Bob.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: It's a great one.
- 49:33SPEAKER_02: Yep, that was the lefty I was targeting as well.
- 49:37SPEAKER_02: So I will need some time to pivot.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: But I interest you in uh uh Mr.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: Watson.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: I scrolled very quickly past his name, like two seconds ago.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: I actually I I apologize he uh while you um deliberate, Blum.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: Akshay has now had uh two massive starts, 2024 and 25.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: Uh his best finish is T35, so uh we're looking to um move up the leaderboard a little bit this year, make make MC some money.
- 50:09SPEAKER_02: Thank you for that filibustering Collins.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: I am going to go with my lefty, and I know the boys were talking about this guy earlier in the prep for this this podcast.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go with Matt McCarty.
- 50:23SPEAKER_02: He is one of the young guys on tour, I feel like hasn't had the best year.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: He's had some good showings in majors in the past.
- 50:30SPEAKER_02: It was either him or Brian Harmon for me.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go with uh the upside of uh Matt McCarty for my lefty.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: Sounds like a proper Irish American too.
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: Another guy I would have I would have actually guessed that he was a debutant, but he did play last year.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: He was T14.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: Um and so yeah, he's he's a strong player.
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: Dark horse sleeper, uh Maddie McCart.
- 50:53SPEAKER_02: And then for my second free space pick, I am torn between two guys.
- 50:59SPEAKER_02: I'll go with the one that is trending right now, and that is Maddie Fitzpatrick.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: Uh he is a new father, going to be a new father.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: Congrats to him.
- 51:09SPEAKER_02: He has been playing, like I said, the best golf of his career.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: He won a few weeks ago.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: I am very happy to get Vitzi here with uh, I think in the fifth round of one of my free spaces.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: I like that pick.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: I was actually torn between him and Tommy.
- 51:24SPEAKER_01: I knew I wanted one of the Brits on my team, and uh Maddie Fitz is certainly in better form.
- 51:31SPEAKER_01: I just went with my heart a little bit more, but I I do enjoy both guys, and Fitz is playing some elite golf.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: He's been playing incredible.
- 51:40SPEAKER_00: Uh he has the ability to uh to chip around these greens as well, I'd say, and he's added a lot of distance to to help him out off on the off the tee.
- 51:51SPEAKER_00: So uh yeah, great pick, Blummy.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: Um, I believe I am rounding out my team here, correct?
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: This should be the final round, no?
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: You have two picks left.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: You need an amateur and an old.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: Amateur and an old.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go to the old category here.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: And I'm interested to hear what you guys think about this because he's an ageless wonder.
- 52:18SPEAKER_00: He looks younger than I do.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: Um, but he is 45 years of age.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: That's Adam Scott, also a past champion.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: He he is, like I said, he's an ageless wonder.
- 52:30SPEAKER_00: He's got one of the purest swings in golf history, and uh boy, is he gonna be a nice addition to my team.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I've always said if you're just starting to play golf, go look at Adam Scott's swing.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: I think it's like you said, as pure as it gets.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: And none of us listen to that advice because I've seen all three of us swing it, and it's especially mine, is far from Adam's.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: I think that definitely counts as an old because he was next up for me.
- 52:57SPEAKER_01: That's who I was gonna.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: I had him circled on my big board.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: I was hoping you went for an amateur first, but of course you couldn't you couldn't help me out.
- 53:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't really know if this is gonna count as an old, but I'm gonna try my best to to work him in the mix.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: What about Captain Keegan?
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: For the the viewers listening, we did a soft uh categorization of this category of being 40 plus.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: He is 39.
- 53:27SPEAKER_02: He's 39.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: But we also said it's like porn, you know, when you see it.
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: And he ain't young.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: In in in my head, I was like, yeah, he he kind of isn't old.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: In good faith, Sean, this is your show.
- 53:43SPEAKER_00: I will I will allow Keegan Bradley uh to your as long as he's as far away from the Americans as possible.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: I I could propose maybe Jordan Spieth being my old, as he's aged in dog years, specifically Augusta.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: He's about 108.
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: So if you'd rather be going that direction, I could cross off past champ and take another one of those.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: So I'll let you guys be the judge, but I feel like I've given you two good options here.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm fine with it.
- 54:08SPEAKER_02: I can't veto you on your own podcast show.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: No, you please do, because I don't want this to be a censorship thing.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: I feel like you guys speak your mind is to pick aloud or no.
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: I'll just say this.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: Does he have any gray hairs?
- 54:21SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 54:23SPEAKER_02: He does?
- 54:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's got to.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: After that performance, after that performance at Beth Page, I think he's chalk full of them.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: After sending Kalamarkawa out there time and time again, of course he's got some gray hairs.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, no, I actually really like the look of Keegan on your team, Sean.
- 54:41SPEAKER_01: I I hate it, but it was I don't know another old.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: I don't want those imreal old thobble running around.
- 54:47SPEAKER_01: Freddie Couples is that or Freddie.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: So I I've been pigeonholed here in the in the this guy who I think's old, but maybe even not.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: But I'm happy to have Captain Keegan with the rest of my team being full of European rider couppers.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: And for my amateur, my last pick, start of the sixth round here.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I don't know any of these names.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: We're going off profile pictures here on the Masters app.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: I don't hate the look of a couple of these guys.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: I see a lefty in the midst, but I'm gonna go with Mason Howell.
- 55:20SPEAKER_01: The sole reason is I saw that he went to a golf tournament and his favorite player was Rory McElroy when he was nine years old, and Rory tossed him a ball.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: And he's kept that ball.
- 55:32SPEAKER_01: It's in his room on display, and I believe he's playing with Rory this week.
- 55:35SPEAKER_01: So that it doesn't get better than that.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: That's that's good stuff.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: So give me Mason Howell.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: That's a sick story for sure.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, I also don't know any of the uh amateurs.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: I am going to go with my guy, Ethan Fang.
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: He is a uh according to Google, he's an Oklahoma State uh current roster member.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: Um he also won the amateur championship at Royal St.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: George's last year, so he must be doing something right.
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: Ethan Fang, welcome to Team Collins, brother.
- 56:13SPEAKER_02: Collins, you took the uh easy I'm gonna say Collins, you took the easy road out picking a very easy name.
- 56:19SPEAKER_02: Um, because I'm going with I'm going with from uh the native country of Thailand, FIFA Lio Pakti.
- 56:28SPEAKER_02: Do I know anything about him?
- 56:30SPEAKER_02: No.
- 56:30SPEAKER_02: Did I just want to say his name?
- 56:32SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: I danced right around that game.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: I was just gonna call him FIFA 25.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: What's really interesting, I guess FIFA might be a nickname of sorts.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'm looking on DraftKings at the odds for top amateur, and it has his first name listed as Pong Sopak.
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: That's that translates directly to FIFA.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: That's interesting stuff.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: I wanted to take him, Blum.
- 57:03SPEAKER_01: I just danced, I didn't want to say the name.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: So you're a braver man than I.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: He is the U.S.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: amateur uh champion, I believe.
- 57:17SPEAKER_00: And he's playing with Rory McElroy, like uh Sean said, so that'll be he'll have some eyes on him.
- 57:23SPEAKER_00: It'll be interesting to see how he answers the call.
- 57:25SPEAKER_01: That concludes the Masters Draft.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: I think that served as a good preview to going down some of the names that are participating and giving you guys a little bit of a glimpse into what we think is going to happen.
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: We have two quick segments to round out the show.
- 57:37SPEAKER_01: Each of us has prepared a personal guarantee to finish inside the top 10.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: And then, of course, we're bringing back a segment from football season, which went pretty well, I would say.
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: It's the Michael Collins best.
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: Michael Collins' best bet.
- 57:52SPEAKER_01: And listeners, I don't want to hype this up too much, but you can expect some fireworks.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: And I know if I know my guy, it's something deep down the leaderboard.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: So let's start with the guaranteed top 10.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: This is a pride thing.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: Lifetime on this podcast, in personal guarantees, I am one and one.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: I believe I guaranteed a Chiefs victory in a game they lost by 20.
- 58:15SPEAKER_01: And then I also guarantee that the Florida Gators wouldn't win the national title, which was a smashing success.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: So not too shabby.
- 58:23SPEAKER_01: My guaranteed top 10 this week.
- 58:25SPEAKER_01: A lot of different directions you could go with this.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: I'm going with Ludvig.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna single it down to Ludwig.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: I was going to include speeth and get a bit bold, but I don't want to get too far ahead of my skis.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: I'm already emotionally invested in this.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: So give me Ludvig.
- 58:39SPEAKER_01: I think he's a lock for a top 10.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: He's been playing good golf this year.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: Seems to be a good course fit at Augusta.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: I saw him recently talking about how this course favors people who visualize their shots that could hit it both ways, left to right, right to left.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: He is able to do that in spade.
- 58:54SPEAKER_01: So give me Ludwig Aubert for a top 10.
- 58:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a that's a good one, Sean.
- 59:01SPEAKER_02: I think he's two masters appearances, runner up in 24 and tied for seventh and twenty-five.
- 59:07SPEAKER_02: So he's about in a thousand on top ten.
- 59:11SPEAKER_02: Good pick there.
- 59:12SPEAKER_01: And he's plus one fifty-four.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: Listeners, just so you just so everyone's aware.
- 59:16SPEAKER_02: And if you need your odds, blum, I gotcha.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: So for my guaranteed top ten, I'm gonna hedge a bit.
- 59:21SPEAKER_02: Um, I really like Vitsi as a top 10, but my gut is telling me Kalin Worakawa.
- 59:28SPEAKER_02: When I think games, I know he's not playing the best, but when I just think games that translate well, good iron play, solid putting, keeps it in the fairway.
- 59:37SPEAKER_02: Colin Morakawa has always been that guy for me.
- 59:40SPEAKER_02: Again, not playing the best golf this year, but I feel like Augusta best suits his game of all the you know the big names.
- 59:49SPEAKER_02: I'll uh stick my neck out there for Colin for a top 10 this week.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: Plus 215.
- 59:54SPEAKER_01: That's a good value pick there, Ball.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I sort of uh showed my hand uh on this one in our previous segment a little bit.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: I I had prepared uh Xander Shawfley, uh quite a popular pick to win.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_00: Um, like I said, kind of a sharpie uh top 10.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_00: Five out of his eight starts have been T10 or better.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_00: Since I already had mentioned that, I'm gonna give the listeners a twofer.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm gonna also Blum mentioned he his gut, told him Colin.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_00: This is a total gut pick for me.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_00: Hideki Matsuyama, I will guarantee a top 10 from him.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: Um, past champion, he's been playing pretty solidly on the tour this year.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, he currently is I'm seeing him at plus 196 to top 10.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: Um, and you can just go ahead and put that at one on.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: I'm happy you brought him up.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_01: I love Hadeki.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: I loved when he won the master, so I'm hoping for another big week out of him.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: Collins, I'm gonna tee you up for your best bet, which I I can't wait to hear.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_01: Uh, with one name we have not mentioned yet in this episode.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: I just want to quickly say if I was doing a top 20 bet, the guy I would circle is Patrick Reed.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: I'm expecting fireworks from our favorite villain.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_01: So I just need to make sure Patrick Reed is mentioned on this episode.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_00: I was thinking about him as my uh secondary top 10, but uh Hadeki, like I said, my gut just kind of guided me there.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I'm looking for big things out of P.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: Reed as well.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: Um as far as the Collins best bet goes, Sean, you had requested me to go to go down the leaderboard, and I did not exactly do that.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_00: Instead, I I went for your guy, your guy, Shawnee B, Ludwig Oberg, uh, as the top Nord.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_00: Top Nordic finisher.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_00: He's at plus one fifty.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: So we're sort of looking at um Hoyguards are in the mix.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: It's him, the Hoyguards, uh, near guard Peterson.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_00: That's sort of the competition that we're dealing with here.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_00: I think that plus 150 on Ludwig Oberg at uh the top Nordic um is really stealing that you're getting plus money on that.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think that you could easily call him a lock to finish top 10, like you just did.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_00: So uh yeah, I love love Ludwig.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: Love that he's your guy.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: Love that I'm hopping on the Sean Boyle train um with that top Nord.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: I also want if if they're if the listeners are interested in a twofer, I want to go back to the debutante category as well.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_00: Chris Godderup, a guy that that we had mentioned a few times, he's coming in with four wins under his belt two this season.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_00: He is the favorite for top debutant at plus four ten.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: You throw a couple bucks on on Chris Godderup at plus four ten uh for top debutant.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: It's him, bridgeman, ben griffin, ryan Gerard.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: That's kind of the four horsemen sort of the of the debutantes, and uh I love Godterup at plus four ten.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: That's amazing.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: I like both of those.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna hop right there with you on the on the Collins Best Bet.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_01: I would be a fool not to.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_01: So I I'm I couldn't be more excited for that.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: I'm happy to have you aboard the Aubear train.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_01: That's that's great stuff.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_01: Guys, parting thoughts.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: I I'm gonna pose one question to you.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_01: It's a simple one.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: One name, one name only, who wins the 2026 Masters?
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_01: John Rahm.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: There it is.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_01: See, that was an instinct.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: John Rom Collins.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: John Rahm wins he Rory McElroy reaches up as high as he can to put the John the green jacket on big John Rahm's shoulders.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go a bit out of the box.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna say a guy that we have not named the once yet.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_02: Oh, see, this is great.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_02: Victor Hoblin.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, I would love it.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_01: I would love it.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_01: That's shocking.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_01: It goes right in the face of the top Nord.
- 1:04:31unknown: Right in the face.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that would that would be an issue.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_02: His his best, I would argue, is up there with like the best in the world.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: It's very rare that we see it.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_02: He's very inconsistent, but if we get it this week, he's played well there before.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_02: He shows up for the most part during majors.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_02: So I'll I'll commit to Victor.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_02: I think he'll be a surprise winner this week.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_01: I love that you I love that you did that.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_01: I am a huge Victor guy as well.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_01: It's been a tough few years for him, which is why we haven't mentioned him on this episode yet, but he's going to get a major at some point, and I would love for it to be this week.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_02: I just want to stick my neck out for one more guy, a debutante that is deep down the Os list.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_02: Sam Stevens.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_02: Give me uh top 20, Sam Stevens.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, right.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_01: Sam Stevens Blum is sticking that long neck out on two two picks there.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_01: I love that, Blum.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_01: Good stuff from you.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_01: I I just think it's super I just think I just have to do it.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_01: As a surprise to nobody, it's not flashy, but 45 to 1.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: Jordan Speith.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_01: If you if you just look at some of the boxes of the average winner of Augusta, he seems to tick a lot of them this year.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_01: He's playing pretty good golf.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_01: He's missing a lot of short putts, which is a big concern.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_01: And that's really keeping him from playing great golf.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: So don't think I'm not worried about that.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_01: I definitely am.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna go with my heart.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: I just think my heart and brain are aligning to think Jordan's gonna have a really good week and be in the mix on Sunday, so I have to go with Mr.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_01: Speed.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_02: And I'll I'll say this.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_02: He's this is the best golf he's played, I think, in four or five years this year.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: Yep, and he's finally healthy too.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: It was a nagging wrist injury, birth of some children, life got in the way.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_01: We're officially back up and running.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_01: We just need a statement win to tell the masses.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_00: And it's the same mindset as what we had been doing with Rory.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_00: If you just keep saying it over and over and over, eventually you're gonna be right.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_00: Eventually he's gonna do it.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: And the other thing that I've I've been I've boxed myself in here because the time I don't say it is when it'll happen.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: And I just can't have that on the record now.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_01: So unfortunately, until he does it again, this is gonna be my pick.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_01: Boys, thank you very much for joining me.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_01: Any parting thoughts?
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_00: As I'm looking it up, this is on the FanDuel app.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_00: I gave out Collins' best bet at uh Ludwig Oberg at plus 150.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it was just Blum's comments just now about Victor Hovlin, but it has since moved to plus 160.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_00: So extra 10 cents for the listeners as of what we had expected.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_00: Plus 160 for Ludwig on the uh top Nordic.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_01: You're welcome.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_01: Blum, thank you for moving that line.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_01: Boys, I appreciate you both hopping on.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_01: Here's to enjoying the masters.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_01: I'm sure we'll be texting about it throughout.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_02: Thanks for having me.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, thanks, Sean.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_01: Listeners, thank you all for tuning in.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_01: I hope you all enjoy the Masters this weekend.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_01: And until next time, take care of the video.
