Speaker 2: Thursday edition of the show, one step closer to the weekend.
1:21
Speaker 2: Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes says in a word, wet.
1:24
Speaker 2: Heavy rain possible at times today, kind of off and on.
1:27
Speaker 2: You could get a lot of rain in a short
1:28
Speaker 2: amount of time. You get underneath one of those downpours.
1:30
Speaker 2: I experienced that myself while driving in this morning. There
1:33
Speaker 2: was actually some flooding being reported in areas of Mason
1:36
Speaker 2: and Jackson counties. Temps are going to be below the mid-80s,
1:39
Speaker 2: but it'll feel warmer than that with all the humidity.
1:41
Speaker 2: The rain continues tonight, lows in the upper 60s. Tomorrow,
1:44
Speaker 2: some rain around in the morning. Should dry out, feel
1:46
Speaker 2: a tad cooler later in the day. Should be in
1:48
Speaker 2: good shape for high school football tomorrow night. Highs tomorrow
1:51
Speaker 2: below 80. So many activities, of course, going on in
1:53
Speaker 2: the area this weekend. And unfortunately, at least we have
1:56
Speaker 2: a chance for rain to talk about Saturday into early Sunday.
1:59
Speaker 2: Mid-80s Saturday and Sunday. You can download the Metro News
2:02
Speaker 2: television app for Brian and his team of weather professionals
2:05
Speaker 2: and follow along on social media as well. Coming up,
2:07
Speaker 2: told you yesterday about the Putnam County homecoming, which is
2:10
Speaker 2: happening in Winfield. It actually gets going tomorrow night with
2:13
Speaker 2: a car show and a cruise in. Jim Winter is
2:15
Speaker 2: going to join us to talk about that. Plus, if
2:16
Speaker 2: you like food like I do, this show today is
2:19
Speaker 2: where you need to be. Morgan Morrison is going to
2:22
Speaker 2: join me in a little bit to talk pickles. at Picklepalooza,
2:25
Speaker 2: which is happening Saturday at Slack Plaza. And speaking of food,
2:29
Speaker 2: welcome in our good friend now, Aaron Wood, to talk
2:31
Speaker 2: about ribs and all the things that go along with it.
2:33
Speaker 2: Rib Baskets underway today at Shawnee Park in Dunbar. Aaron,
2:36
Speaker 2: good morning. Welcome to the show. Good morning. Thank you
2:38
Speaker 2: for having me. Thank you for being here. Kicks off
2:40
Speaker 2: today at four. What is it that makes this event, Aaron,
2:44
Speaker 2: so good other than just the ribs, which we'll get to?
2:47
Speaker 5: Well, I think it's one of the main family-friendly events
2:51
Speaker 5: that we have in the You know, it has the
2:56
Speaker 5: great food. It has live entertainment that's family-friendly. And we
3:00
Speaker 5: have the huge Polka Valley Bank Kids Zone for the kids.
3:04
Speaker 5: So it's just a great opportunity for families to go out,
3:08
Speaker 5: enjoy good food, enjoy some family wholesome time together, and
3:12
Speaker 5: listen to some music and have a good time.
3:15
Speaker 2: And if you're listening right now and you're thinking, well,
3:17
Speaker 2: ribs aren't really my thing. Okay, number one, you're probably communist. Okay,
3:20
Speaker 2: that's number one. But number two, shrimp. Fish, tacos, chicken, fajitas,
3:26
Speaker 2: Italian sausage, steak wraps, bloomin' onions, milkshakes, funnel cakes, ice
3:31
Speaker 2: cream donuts. You pretty much got it all here. We
3:33
Speaker 2: got it all. We got it all.
3:35
Speaker 5: I'm really excited about the shrimp and seafood vendor we have.
3:39
Speaker 5: She actually has been a runner-up for a James Beard Award.
3:43
Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
3:44
Speaker 5: She has been on the food show several times. So,
3:48
Speaker 5: you know, she has some great seafood to offer, and
3:51
Speaker 5: she's going to be located just inside the front gate
3:52
Speaker 5: to the left. And that doesn't even count the award-winning
3:56
Speaker 5: rib vendors we have from all over the United States.
3:58
Speaker 5: We got Carolina Rib King, Cowboys from Texas.
4:01
Speaker 2: Those are two of the, I mean, you always have
4:03
Speaker 2: good ones, but traditionally, those are two of the more
4:06
Speaker 2: popular ones, those two you just mentioned. Because they're there
4:08
Speaker 2: pretty much every.
4:09
Speaker 6: Year, right?
4:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, they're there every year.
4:11
Speaker 5: So, you know, it's exciting to bring in some world-class
4:14
Speaker 5: food to our community. And, you know, of course, the entertainment.
4:20
Speaker 5: Thursday night, we got Del Noro. Friday night, we've got
4:22
Speaker 5: Joss Pantry. And on Saturday, we have the wonderful sounds
4:26
Speaker 5: of Fleetwood Mac and Heart.
4:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's called Fleetwood's Heart, I think is what it's called.
4:32
Speaker 2: Fleetwood's Heart. And it's a tribute band to both Fleetwood
4:35
Speaker 2: Mac and Heart and two groups that, I mean, just
4:38
Speaker 2: had so many hits over there, so many songs that
4:40
Speaker 2: people are going to recognize. You're not going to go
4:42
Speaker 2: and say, well, I don't know what this song is.
4:44
Speaker 2: You're going to know what that song is, no matter
4:45
Speaker 2: pretty much what your age is. Right, right, exactly. And
4:48
Speaker 2: Del Nora, of course, she's a West Virginia native. She
4:51
Speaker 2: just won I think Americana Artist of the Year or
4:53
Speaker 2: something like that. She's got a number one song on
4:56
Speaker 2: the gospel charts as well. She does a little bit
4:58
Speaker 2: of everything. And she's actually a little programming. She's actually
5:00
Speaker 2: going to join us in studio on Metro News Midday
5:02
Speaker 2: today ahead of her appearance tonight. So she's going to
5:05
Speaker 2: come in here first. Then she's going to go over
5:06
Speaker 2: and hang out with you. She's fantastic talent.
5:08
Speaker 7: She really, really is.
5:10
Speaker 2: But, you know, again, and Josh Pantry. I mean, what
5:12
Speaker 2: do you need to say about Josh Pantry? I mean,
5:14
Speaker 2: the guy has got such an incredible following, not only
5:16
Speaker 2: here in the Kanawha Valley, but really in this part
5:18
Speaker 2: of the country. I mean, he's fantastic.
5:20
Speaker 8: Yep.
5:21
Speaker 6: Yep.
5:21
Speaker 5: And then Sunday, you know, we got the big time
5:22
Speaker 5: wrestling at two o'clock, you know, we're going to do
5:24
Speaker 5: a cruising car show, um, something we haven't done before,
5:28
Speaker 5: but who doesn't want to cruise in and have some ribs?
5:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
5:31
Speaker 7: Exactly.
5:32
Speaker 2: And of course, all of the sides that go along
5:34
Speaker 2: with it as well, when it comes to the, I mean,
5:35
Speaker 2: I'm a rib guy, uh, but the, all the sides,
5:38
Speaker 2: I mean, are so good. They go along with all
5:41
Speaker 2: the vendors. They always have just killer sides there. Oh yeah.
5:44
Speaker 5: I think one of my favorite sides is the Mac
5:46
Speaker 5: and cheese mixed in with the barbecue.
5:47
Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
5:48
Speaker 9: Yeah.
5:48
Speaker 2: I've, Actually, I've had that now that I mentioned it.
5:51
Speaker 10: Pigback.
5:52
Speaker 1: Pigback, yeah.
5:53
Speaker 2: And they've been here before because I think I've had
5:55
Speaker 2: that at least from one of the vendors. It's really
5:57
Speaker 2: good stuff. Now, parking is free at Shawnee, but talk
6:01
Speaker 2: about the admission price. How does that work?
6:03
Speaker 5: So admission is $ 8 for adults and $ 4 for kids.
6:06
Speaker 5: But once you enter, the kids don't have to pay
6:08
Speaker 5: for the Fun Zone. The Fun Zone was, again, sponsored
6:10
Speaker 5: by Polka Valley Banks. Thank you to our friends at
6:12
Speaker 5: Polka Valley Bank. So there's no additional charge for the
6:14
Speaker 5: Fun Zone. So once you get inside, you get to
6:17
Speaker 5: enjoy the entertainment. You get the fun zone. You get
6:19
Speaker 5: the food. It's a great time.
6:21
Speaker 2: And, you know, that's really when you think about all
6:24
Speaker 2: of the choices that you have, Aaron, as far as
6:26
Speaker 2: the different rib vendors go and the other food vendors
6:29
Speaker 2: as well. That's not a terribly high price, to be
6:32
Speaker 2: honest with.
6:32
Speaker 5: You, in my opinion. I don't think it is. I
6:34
Speaker 5: think it's pretty fair. You know, we put up a
6:36
Speaker 5: huge eating tent for everybody to sit down and eat.
6:39
Speaker 5: I don't think there's another festival in the area that
6:43
Speaker 5: actually does an eating tent for everyone that comes. And
6:46
Speaker 5: that's a big tent. It's usually about 40 by 100 feet.
6:50
Speaker 5: And it allows people to get out of the sun.
6:52
Speaker 5: And actually, with the forecasted rain that we have in
6:55
Speaker 5: the forecast, we actually put the stage underneath the tent
6:57
Speaker 5: this year. So if you come and eat, you're going
7:00
Speaker 5: to be under a tent. The stage is going to
7:02
Speaker 5: be under the tent. So you can still enjoy the
7:04
Speaker 5: sights and sounds of Ribfest if the weather is a
7:06
Speaker 5: little dreary.
7:07
Speaker 2: And we had a text. Somebody said, with the rain
7:08
Speaker 2: and possible storms, Ribfest is going to be happening. You'll
7:11
Speaker 2: be able to cook outside in this. Well, all the
7:13
Speaker 2: folks that are cooking are actually inside, so to speak, right?
7:16
Speaker 2: I mean, they're covered, you know, for the most part. Yeah,
7:18
Speaker 2: they're covered.
7:19
Speaker 5: The ribs have already started to smoke. You know, they
7:22
Speaker 5: started smoking yesterday at 8 a.m. So the food should
7:25
Speaker 5: be ready today at 4 for everybody to start eating.
7:28
Speaker 5: If you want to stop by for lunch, you're more
7:29
Speaker 5: than welcome.
7:30
Speaker 2: The rib vendors will be there.
7:31
Speaker 5: You can stop by for lunch from 11 to 2
7:32
Speaker 5: as well on Thursday and Friday in case you want
7:35
Speaker 5: some good ribs for lunch and you can't come in
7:37
Speaker 5: the evening. During lunch, we do not charge an entry fee.
7:40
Speaker 5: If you want to just come in and eat, you can.
7:42
Speaker 5: No charge at all to come in at lunchtime and.
7:44
Speaker 2: Grab some ribs. That's pretty cool. And you're going to
7:46
Speaker 2: start that today at 11, right? Today and tomorrow.
7:49
Speaker 9: All right.
7:49
Speaker 2: So if you're like me, the moment you walk through
7:52
Speaker 2: the front door of your office, you'll probably think, what
7:54
Speaker 2: am I going to have for lunch today? I mean,
7:56
Speaker 2: all due respect to a lot of restaurants in the area,
7:57
Speaker 2: there's a lot of good ones, a lot of fast
7:59
Speaker 2: food too. Do something a little bit different today. Go
8:01
Speaker 2: out for ribs. And again, you do not charge for
8:03
Speaker 2: admission between 11 and 2 on Thursday, which is today,
8:06
Speaker 2: and Friday. So people can You can load up the car,
8:08
Speaker 2: and they can come down there. They can get some
8:10
Speaker 2: food and either eat there or take it back to
8:11
Speaker 2: the office. That's correct.
8:13
Speaker 5: Even with a little bit of rain today, you know,
8:14
Speaker 5: we have the huge eating tent out there, so you
8:16
Speaker 5: can stay dry and have some good ribs.
8:18
Speaker 2: Now, are you doing any contests this year? Because I
8:20
Speaker 2: know in the past, some of your festivals, you've had,
8:22
Speaker 2: you know, different, like, wing eating contests. Are you doing
8:25
Speaker 2: that this year?
8:26
Speaker 5: No, we opted not to do the wing eating contest.
8:28
Speaker 5: We're going to try something new with the cruising car show.
8:30
Speaker 2: Okay, something a little bit different. And, well, and, you know, being...
8:35
Speaker 2: Close to the car community, several of my friends and
8:38
Speaker 2: my brother-in-law is very big in the car community. I
8:40
Speaker 2: tell you, any chance that they get an opportunity to
8:43
Speaker 2: take the cars in, they're doing it. They're 100% doing it.
8:46
Speaker 2: They love to get together. I know I mentioned that
8:48
Speaker 2: there's the big event happening tomorrow in Winfield. There's other
8:50
Speaker 2: events going on, too. But any opportunity they get to
8:53
Speaker 2: come down there, they love it here, and you know that.
8:55
Speaker 5: Well, the weather looks good on Sunday, and we're hoping
8:58
Speaker 5: that we have a bunch of cars cruise in. There's
9:00
Speaker 5: going to be a bunch of people there at the
9:01
Speaker 5: soccer tournament as well. It's something we're doing a little different.
9:05
Speaker 5: We actually have a Ribfest soccer tournament going on at
9:07
Speaker 5: the Sports Complex.
9:08
Speaker 2: All at the same time.
9:09
Speaker 5: Right behind the festival. And we have 70 teams coming
9:12
Speaker 5: in from all over West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia.
9:16
Speaker 5: So it's going to be packed out there.
9:18
Speaker 2: I mean, think about that for a moment. And this
9:20
Speaker 2: kind of goes off of what you're here to talk about.
9:22
Speaker 2: But I remember when they started talking about Shawnee in
9:25
Speaker 2: general and people said, oh, nobody's going to care about it.
9:28
Speaker 2: You've got 70 teams coming in. 70 teams. 70 teams from, again,
9:32
Speaker 2: here in West Virginia and Virginia and what was the
9:34
Speaker 2: other state?
9:35
Speaker 1: Ohio and Kentucky.
9:35
Speaker 2: Oh, Kentucky. All right, that's 70 teams, okay? How many people,
9:39
Speaker 2: how many players are on a team? Roughly 15, 15,
9:42
Speaker 2: 20 people. Okay, we'll say 10, 15, something like that.
9:45
Speaker 2: You add a couple of parents in there and you
9:47
Speaker 2: add a couple of siblings, you're going to have all
9:49
Speaker 2: those people, 70 different teams coming. And they're all going
9:54
Speaker 2: to be there. They're all going to be staying in
9:55
Speaker 2: all the hotels around here. Again, I know I kind
9:57
Speaker 2: of go off on a tangent talking about this stuff.
9:59
Speaker 2: about how people say that nobody was going to come
10:03
Speaker 2: out for this thing. Well, I think everybody's been proven
10:06
Speaker 2: wrong on this because.
10:07
Speaker 7: They really are.
10:08
Speaker 2: And a lot of those folks are going to mosey
10:10
Speaker 2: their way into Ribfest. Oh, absolutely.
10:12
Speaker 1: Absolutely.
10:13
Speaker 5: Funny you mentioned the sports touring piece of it. I
10:16
Speaker 5: also run Capital Cup. with West Virginia Football Club in
10:19
Speaker 5: the spring in April. And that tournament actually has close
10:22
Speaker 5: to 220 teams from all over the East Coast. And
10:25
Speaker 5: we're talking from New York to Florida. And we usually
10:29
Speaker 5: sell out every hotel from... Charleston almost all the way
10:33
Speaker 5: down the honey.
10:34
Speaker 2: Oh, I've, I've heard the stories. I mean, people were staying,
10:36
Speaker 2: you know, I mean, down, down the coal fields, they're
10:38
Speaker 2: of course taking up everything in Taze Valley, Barbersville. I mean, what's, uh,
10:42
Speaker 2: it's fantastic. It really is.
10:44
Speaker 7: Yeah.
10:44
Speaker 5: We got, we got, we actually got an email, exciting news.
10:46
Speaker 5: We got an email yesterday from a club up in
10:48
Speaker 5: New York who wants to bring down 15 teams for
10:52
Speaker 5: capital cup. So we've never had that many teams come
10:55
Speaker 5: from out of state. You know, we'll have a team
10:56
Speaker 5: from New York. We'll have a team from Florida. We'll
10:58
Speaker 5: have team from South Carolina, but we actually have a group.
11:01
Speaker 5: of 15 teams coming in from New York for a
11:04
Speaker 5: capital cup in the spring. And that's exciting that, you know,
11:06
Speaker 5: that's real growth to the point where this is going
11:09
Speaker 5: to be turned into something special and it'll be one
11:11
Speaker 5: of the premier, uh, tournaments on the east coast on
11:13
Speaker 5: an annual basis.
11:14
Speaker 2: All right we'll have to get you back on to
11:15
Speaker 2: talk about that we had a texture says rib fest
11:17
Speaker 2: is fantastic my kid played for like three hours at
11:20
Speaker 2: the fun zone last year awesome that's great to hear
11:23
Speaker 2: and it's three hours that they probably stepped away from
11:25
Speaker 2: a device to exactly have a little fun out there
11:28
Speaker 2: all right so uh let's uh go over the hours
11:31
Speaker 2: and go over all the things here for rib fest aaron.
11:33
Speaker 5: So um thursday and friday the festival will be operating
11:37
Speaker 5: from four to ten uh don't forget if you Come
11:42
Speaker 5: enjoy some ribs. Saturday will be from 11 to 10,
11:45
Speaker 5: and Sunday will be from 1 to 6.
11:46
Speaker 2: All right. And we're keeping a close eye on the weather.
11:50
Speaker 2: But as I said, the ribs have already started smoking,
11:52
Speaker 2: so you can't turn back now, right?
11:54
Speaker 5: Can't turn back now. The food is already cooking. It's
11:56
Speaker 5: already in the oven. You know, we got a big
11:58
Speaker 5: tent up in case it's raining. So come out and
12:00
Speaker 5: still enjoy some ribs.
12:01
Speaker 2: And, of course, I think a lot of our stations
12:03
Speaker 2: are going to be out there from time to time
12:04
Speaker 2: over the weekend broadcasting live. So look for your favorite
12:07
Speaker 2: WVRC media personalities online. out there as well. Aaron would
12:10
Speaker 2: always appreciate you have it in rib fest going on
12:12
Speaker 2: at Shawnee. Uh, and it starts today. And again, the
12:15
Speaker 2: big thing that I didn't know until we sat down
12:17
Speaker 2: for the interview is if you want to come out
12:18
Speaker 2: and have lunch there today, they don't officially open a
12:21
Speaker 2: four o'clock, but they are opening up for lunch. 11
12:23
Speaker 2: to 2 today and tomorrow. So there's no admission charge.
12:26
Speaker 2: If you want to come in and you just pay
12:28
Speaker 2: for your food and enjoy it there or take it
12:30
Speaker 2: back to work, there'll be that one person in your
12:32
Speaker 2: office that's going to have to go get like 30
12:35
Speaker 2: different rib dinners. But that's okay. Let's start this while
12:38
Speaker 2: they're there. Aaron Wood, I appreciate you being here, man.
12:40
Speaker 2: Thanks a lot.
12:41
Speaker 9: All right.
12:41
Speaker 1: Thank you.

Speaker 2: Welcome back to the show. It is nine 23 on
15:29
Speaker 2: a Thursday morning. Great to have you along here for
15:31
Speaker 2: Dave Allen show on five 80 live is brought to
15:33
Speaker 2: you in part by Morgan and Morgan with more than
15:35
Speaker 2: $ 20 billion recovered. They believe that when you're injured, you
15:38
Speaker 2: deserve more Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury law firm. Uh,
15:42
Speaker 2: we are working to get Morgan Morrison to talk about, uh, pickle, uh, Palooza.
15:48
Speaker 2: And apparently we had a little issue here. So Ryan,
15:51
Speaker 2: I am going to, uh, we're trying to get ahold
15:54
Speaker 2: of her via phone. That's not working either. Uh, she said,
15:58
Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I've been painting pickles for 20 hours.
16:01
Speaker 10: All right.
16:01
Speaker 2: So Morgan, I, or, uh, Ryan, I think she's going
16:03
Speaker 2: to call. So I just texted her the number. So
16:05
Speaker 2: I think we're going to try to get her on.
16:07
Speaker 2: She's been painting pickles for 20 hours, she says. So
16:10
Speaker 2: we are working on that. Text says, do you have
16:14
Speaker 2: screens there to watch the WV football game on Saturday?
16:16
Speaker 2: That's a question for Aaron Wood. I am going to
16:21
Speaker 2: say probably not because, as I've said before in these things,
16:25
Speaker 2: you run into so many different trademark issues on these
16:29
Speaker 2: things where you're allowed to show college athletics of anybody.
16:33
Speaker 2: So I'm going to say probably not because, well, let's
16:37
Speaker 2: just be honest, the NCAA kind of frowns upon that
16:40
Speaker 2: sort of thing without you going through the proper licensing
16:42
Speaker 2: and stuff. Not saying it's not going to happen. I'm
16:43
Speaker 2: just going to say I don't know for sure.
16:47
Speaker 9: All right.
16:48
Speaker 2: If you like pickles, I mean, really, really like pickles.
16:51
Speaker 2: Picklepalooza is for you. It's happening downtown Saturday at Slack Plaza.
16:56
Speaker 2: Morgan Morrison's here to talk about it. Good morning and
16:58
Speaker 2: welcome to the show.
17:00
Speaker 10: Good morning, Dave. How are you?
17:02
Speaker 2: I am doing fine. So I was telling the listeners,
17:04
Speaker 2: I got a text from you when I was trying
17:06
Speaker 2: to figure out where you were. And I know you're very,
17:08
Speaker 2: very busy getting ready. But you said, I'm sorry, I've
17:11
Speaker 2: been painting pickles for 20 hours. 38 years in the business,
17:17
Speaker 2: almost 56 years on earth. I've never heard somebody give
17:19
Speaker 2: us an excuse they were painting pickles.
17:22
Speaker 10: But if anybody was going to be honest about an excuse,
17:24
Speaker 10: that would be me, right? Because I'm always getting into
17:27
Speaker 10: so much crazy stuff.
17:29
Speaker 2: What is painting pickles? I mean, what does that even mean?
17:32
Speaker 10: Well, you know, you would actually be shocked at the
17:37
Speaker 10: availability of pickle decorations. I thought that they would be
17:41
Speaker 10: more bountiful. But, you know, we're doing this pickle-themed pop-up bar.
17:46
Speaker 10: And I said, you know what? It's okay. We can
17:48
Speaker 10: just DIY everything. So I have literally... I have a
17:52
Speaker 10: foam burner and I have maybe handmade at least 400
17:58
Speaker 10: pickles and hand painted them over the past 48 hours.
18:01
Speaker 2: All right. So I am.
18:03
Speaker 7: Go ahead.
18:04
Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
18:05
Speaker 10: No, I'm just knee deep in pickles right now.
18:07
Speaker 2: Well, you know what? Who among us hasn't said that?
18:09
Speaker 10: All right.
18:10
Speaker 2: So this is the second year for this.
18:12
Speaker 9: Is that right?
18:12
Speaker 2: Did I read that right?
18:14
Speaker 10: Yeah, so Arts Amplified puts on Picklepalooza. This is the
18:18
Speaker 10: second year. It was their first time doing it last year,
18:20
Speaker 10: and it was an incredible turnout. Obviously, any time a
18:24
Speaker 10: first-year event happens, you never know what the turnout's going
18:27
Speaker 10: to be, and they were absolutely thrilled with the turnout.
18:31
Speaker 10: I know as a business downtown, I was as well.
18:34
Speaker 10: So when Brian told me they were bringing it back
18:36
Speaker 10: this year, I was like, oh my gosh, I want
18:39
Speaker 10: to do a pop-up pickle bar in collaboration with this.
18:43
Speaker 10: And so I think it's going to be a really
18:45
Speaker 10: amazing event. Everybody loves pickles. Most people love pickles, and
18:50
Speaker 10: it brings a lot of people downtown together. So I'm
18:52
Speaker 10: just really excited to be a part of the fun.
18:54
Speaker 2: So where did the idea come from? I mean, somebody
18:57
Speaker 2: had to say, you know what, let's have a... And look,
18:59
Speaker 2: this isn't the only one, because I was Googling, getting
19:03
Speaker 2: a little bit more information. Do you know that the
19:06
Speaker 2: city of Charleston, South Carolina has Picklepalooza?
19:10
Speaker 10: You know, I didn't until yesterday when I saw it
19:14
Speaker 10: actually pop up in my newsfeed where I've been Googling
19:17
Speaker 10: so much about pickles. I was like, oh... Well, you know,
19:21
Speaker 10: the big pickle festivals in Pittsburgh as well, I think,
19:24
Speaker 10: is like the huge ones.
19:25
Speaker 2: Oh, those people are nuts up there. I mean, I've
19:27
Speaker 2: been up there, you know, and those people are nuts
19:30
Speaker 2: over pickles up there. I mean, they actually call it Picklesburg.
19:34
Speaker 2: They changed the name when they had the festival. But
19:36
Speaker 2: there's other ones going on, like out in the Midwest,
19:38
Speaker 2: because I just stupidly Googled Picklepalooza, and like 20 of
19:43
Speaker 2: them popped up. But we're focusing on the one in Charleston.
19:47
Speaker 2: But where did somebody at some point just say, you
19:49
Speaker 2: know what? dang it let's have a pickle festival.
19:53
Speaker 10: You know, you'd have to, I think, I don't want,
19:55
Speaker 10: don't quote me wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure
19:58
Speaker 10: it was John Query's idea, working with Brian Cooper with
20:02
Speaker 10: Arts Amplified. John Query really was, John Key was really
20:06
Speaker 10: a big spearhead in this event last year, and they
20:09
Speaker 10: worked really hard on it. You know, Arts Amplified's always
20:12
Speaker 10: doing super cool stuff downtown, and they try to do
20:15
Speaker 10: City Center Live and bring a lot of stuff downtown.
20:17
Speaker 10: It's just free for people to come and enjoy. So
20:21
Speaker 10: I'm pretty sure we can give John Q the credit for,
20:24
Speaker 10: you know, wanting to bring that here. And then Arts Amplified,
20:27
Speaker 10: they worked really hard to make it happen.
20:29
Speaker 2: Talking to Morgan Morrison again about Picklepalooza, which is happening Saturday.
20:33
Speaker 2: City Center at Slank Plaza, 920 Ava Dave Allen Show
20:35
Speaker 2: on 580 Live. Brought to you in part by the
20:37
Speaker 2: Charleston Dirty Birds. The Birds are going to close out
20:40
Speaker 2: the season with a homestand against Lexington starting tomorrow night
20:42
Speaker 2: at Gilmart Ballpark. Special events going on related to 9-11
20:46
Speaker 2: as well, and we'll talk about that on the show tomorrow.
20:49
Speaker 2: Check out dirtybirdsbaseball.com if you need more information. People really
20:53
Speaker 2: do love their pickles, though, because I know the folks
20:56
Speaker 2: at the South Charleston Farmer's Market had a pickle event
20:59
Speaker 2: about a month or so ago, and I had Sean
21:01
Speaker 2: from the South Charleston Farmer's Market on talk. They had
21:05
Speaker 2: like 50 or 60 different variety of pickles. There's a
21:08
Speaker 2: whole lot more than just dills and sweet pickles out there, Morgan.
21:14
Speaker 10: I know. There's a ton. You know, one of my
21:17
Speaker 10: favorite pickles I've ever had was actually a Kool-Aid pickle.
21:20
Speaker 2: Those are huge. And that's actually, when talking about the
21:24
Speaker 2: event out at South Charleston at the Farmer's Market, that's
21:26
Speaker 2: what Sean, we actually talked to the West Virginia pickle guy, Troy,
21:30
Speaker 2: the West Virginia pickle guy on the show, and he
21:32
Speaker 2: said his most popular pickle was the Kool-Aid pickle. And
21:37
Speaker 2: to me, that sounded a little weird, but I'm always
21:40
Speaker 2: among the crowd that's like, I mean, I'll try it.
21:43
Speaker 2: I'll try it. So something made you try it. What
21:46
Speaker 2: did you think about it?
21:48
Speaker 10: I love it. I was shocked. You know, I mean,
21:49
Speaker 10: I'll try anything once. But they're really good. I mean,
21:54
Speaker 10: it just works. I can't really explain it.
21:57
Speaker 2: What flavor was it that you were... Because I think
21:59
Speaker 2: he said, Troy said his was like a, I think,
22:03
Speaker 2: I want to say it was like a cherry or
22:04
Speaker 2: something like that. What flavor did you try?
22:06
Speaker 10: It was the red kind.
22:07
Speaker 2: Okay.
22:08
Speaker 10: So I'm going to assume that's cherry, but... they're delicious.
22:11
Speaker 10: And you know, the West Virginia pickle guy, like his
22:14
Speaker 10: pickles are amazing. He has so many pickles and I'm pretty,
22:17
Speaker 10: you know, our family, I made him like the official
22:18
Speaker 10: pickle vendor this year of pickle fest because his line
22:22
Speaker 10: was down the street last year, basically. Um, so we're
22:25
Speaker 10: really like lucky to have him in our area. Uh,
22:29
Speaker 10: have you had his pickles? Because his pickles are amazing.
22:31
Speaker 2: I have, I've had his actually, cause he's at the
22:33
Speaker 2: hunting and fishing show every year with the Coliseum and
22:35
Speaker 2: convention center. And, uh, He, generally speaking, does run out.
22:38
Speaker 2: So he is going to be one of the vendors,
22:40
Speaker 2: you're saying, down here for Picklepalooza.
22:42
Speaker 10: Yes. They made him the official pickle vendor of Picklepalooza.
22:47
Speaker 10: All right.
22:47
Speaker 2: So if you're a fan of the West Virginia Pickle guy,
22:51
Speaker 2: Troy is his name, then he is going to be
22:53
Speaker 2: down there. Do you know off the top of your
22:54
Speaker 2: head some of the other folks that are going to
22:56
Speaker 2: be there?
22:58
Speaker 10: There is a lot of local restaurants. So I do
23:03
Speaker 10: not have the list. I don't have the list.
23:04
Speaker 6: That's okay.
23:05
Speaker 10: I don't have it. They'll have a ton of local
23:07
Speaker 10: restaurants that have made pickle items, pickles in general, and
23:11
Speaker 10: you'll get to go around and try the different samples
23:14
Speaker 10: of pickles. They have some local vendors and local artists
23:17
Speaker 10: as well. I'm pretty sure West Erie will be there.
23:20
Speaker 10: So I think they have a really good lineup. There's
23:23
Speaker 10: also a pickle map that you can pull up on
23:26
Speaker 10: the Arts Amplified website because there's a lot of local
23:29
Speaker 10: businesses that wants to be a part of the event,
23:32
Speaker 10: but they're stuck in their storefront. So, you know, you
23:35
Speaker 10: can go to the different businesses and the pickle map
23:37
Speaker 10: will tell you the different businesses that are offering pickle
23:40
Speaker 10: themed items in collaboration with it. So like short story,
23:43
Speaker 10: we know short story has amazing pizza. They're going to
23:46
Speaker 10: have a pickle pizza for pickle Palooza, um, you know,
23:49
Speaker 10: pies and pints. They're offering their Nashville chicken pizza that
23:52
Speaker 10: has pickles on it. Uh, tickers and timbers, uh, Prime 101,
23:58
Speaker 10: everybody's offering a pickle item and you can follow the
24:00
Speaker 10: pickle map and it'll take you all the places downtown
24:03
Speaker 10: that have pickle things.
24:04
Speaker 2: The fact that we even have something called a pickle
24:07
Speaker 2: map explains where we are as a society right now.
24:10
Speaker 2: And Morgan, I'm here for it. I'm 100% here for it.
24:14
Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
24:14
Speaker 10: I mean, I'm telling you, I love I love when
24:17
Speaker 10: Arts Amplified does things downtown because they really, truly just
24:21
Speaker 10: go the extra. I mean, the pickle map. I mean,
24:23
Speaker 10: it's genius, right? Like it's so cute. It's not like
24:27
Speaker 10: a printed piece of paper. Like you go on the
24:28
Speaker 10: website and it looks like Google Maps. But instead of
24:31
Speaker 10: the buildings, there's like pickles and you click on the
24:34
Speaker 10: pickle and it tells you where to go. it's truly awesome.
24:38
Speaker 2: Well, and I love the fact that we are employing,
24:40
Speaker 2: even if they're not like in person down there, that
24:43
Speaker 2: the businesses are getting involved because I say so often
24:47
Speaker 2: and people, listeners are tired of hearing me say this, but,
24:51
Speaker 2: you know, we got, we have a lot of great
24:53
Speaker 2: chain restaurants here in the Kanawha Valley and I eat
24:56
Speaker 2: at them. I know you do as well from time
24:58
Speaker 2: to time and they employ a lot of people. God
25:00
Speaker 2: bless them for that. But man, if we could, you know,
25:03
Speaker 2: these local restaurants, the ones, some of the ones that
25:05
Speaker 2: you mentioned, these are the ones that that are donating
25:07
Speaker 2: to your little leagues. These are the ones that are
25:09
Speaker 2: helping out with your church groups or the ones that
25:11
Speaker 2: are getting involved when we need sponsors for something, some
25:15
Speaker 2: of the activities we do. These are the ones that always,
25:18
Speaker 2: without fail, step up. So any opportunity that we can
25:21
Speaker 2: get to promote, and we have some killer restaurants in Charleston,
25:25
Speaker 2: South Charleston, St. Albans, on into Taze Valley, Clendenin area.
25:28
Speaker 2: We've got some killer restaurants out there. Try to help
25:31
Speaker 2: these folks out as much as you can, and I
25:32
Speaker 2: know you can appreciate that.
25:35
Speaker 10: I can appreciate that, and I preach that as well.
25:38
Speaker 10: You know, not only are small businesses the one always
25:41
Speaker 10: to show up and step up for you, they're also,
25:44
Speaker 10: you know, I tell people all the time, small businesses
25:46
Speaker 10: are the personality of any town. You know, you can
25:49
Speaker 10: have so many good things about a town, but if
25:51
Speaker 10: you didn't have small businesses and things adding to its
25:55
Speaker 10: personality and identity, when you go to any town, what
25:58
Speaker 10: do you end up falling in love with? It's the
26:00
Speaker 10: local businesses, and it truly is. It sets the scene
26:03
Speaker 10: and they really create the downtown atmosphere. And, you know,
26:07
Speaker 10: we struggle more than anybody. You know me, I'm a
26:11
Speaker 10: small business owner myself. And so I cannot preach more
26:14
Speaker 10: to shop small and support these businesses. And sometimes when
26:16
Speaker 10: you get these big events downtown, it can be hard
26:19
Speaker 10: on small businesses because there's so much stuff going on everywhere.
26:23
Speaker 10: You know, how do you get them in your door?
26:26
Speaker 10: And so I really applaud Arts Amplified for always going
26:31
Speaker 10: out of their way to try to include the small
26:33
Speaker 10: businesses and including them and, you know, supporting them and
26:37
Speaker 10: shouting them out. And so I think it's going to
26:40
Speaker 10: be really cool, a really cool experience.
26:42
Speaker 2: Well, I'll tell you, if you are a foodie as
26:44
Speaker 2: I am, I can tell you this is the place
26:46
Speaker 2: to be because I mentioned earlier in the segment before yours,
26:48
Speaker 2: we talked to Aaron Wood from RibFest. which is going
26:51
Speaker 2: on at Shawnee. Tomorrow, I'm going to have the folks
26:53
Speaker 2: on from Chilling on the Elk. That is a chili
26:56
Speaker 2: beer and wine festival going on on Saturday, and I'm
26:59
Speaker 2: going to talk to those folks on the show tomorrow.
27:03
Speaker 2: The Kanawha Valley is the place to be if you
27:05
Speaker 2: like food, Morgan.
27:07
Speaker 15: It is.
27:08
Speaker 16: It is.
27:08
Speaker 10: We are a bunch of foodies. But, you know, I
27:11
Speaker 10: have to look up. I did not hear about this
27:13
Speaker 10: chili beer and wine because I've never heard of that.
27:16
Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
27:16
Speaker 2: The chilling on the elk. It's been a big thing
27:18
Speaker 2: for the last couple of years. We'll have Carrie on
27:19
Speaker 2: to talk about it tomorrow. Yeah, it's a it's a
27:22
Speaker 2: huge event. Maybe you'll have to tune in. If you're
27:25
Speaker 2: not painting pickles, you can tune in tomorrow about 920
27:28
Speaker 2: or so and hear all about it.
27:29
Speaker 10: How's that? I'll have to put my AirPods in while
27:32
Speaker 10: I'm painting pickles.
27:32
Speaker 2: There you go. We had a text here, Morgan, that said,
27:34
Speaker 2: I never thought the idea of pickles on a chicken
27:37
Speaker 2: sandwich would be good until I finally broke down, started
27:40
Speaker 2: keeping the pickle on my Chick-fil-A sandwich. I was shocked
27:42
Speaker 2: at how good it actually is. Now, wherever I get
27:45
Speaker 2: a chicken sandwich from anywhere, if they don't put pickles
27:47
Speaker 2: on it, I will come home and put pickles on
27:49
Speaker 2: it from my jar in the refrigerator. It's really, really good.
27:52
Speaker 2: You referenced the Nashville Hot Chickens. I think that one
27:56
Speaker 2: of the pies and pints, I think you said, had
27:58
Speaker 2: their pizza. If you're doing the Nashville hot, you've got
28:01
Speaker 2: to have the pickles on it. Because, I mean, the
28:02
Speaker 2: pickles are, not only do they taste great, but they
28:05
Speaker 2: also help, depending on how hot it is, with some
28:07
Speaker 2: of the burns sometimes.
28:09
Speaker 12: Oh, yeah.
28:09
Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
28:10
Speaker 10: And, you know, I'm with that. Especially, I don't know
28:13
Speaker 10: what happened to my taste buds older in years. Like,
28:16
Speaker 10: I get hangry if they don't put the pickles on
28:18
Speaker 10: my sandwich. I love pickles on all of my sandwiches.
28:23
Speaker 10: And I don't know, I just really came to appreciate
28:25
Speaker 10: them later in life. They're truly just a delicacy, I feel.
28:27
Speaker 2: Well, I'll give you a little life hack here as
28:30
Speaker 2: far as the culinary. And you probably already know this,
28:32
Speaker 2: you know, being the culinary genius that you are. But
28:35
Speaker 2: I would say we discovered this a couple of years ago.
28:38
Speaker 2: We buy the spicy pickles in my house. Bellevue makes
28:41
Speaker 2: some really, really good spicy pickles. If we don't get
28:44
Speaker 2: them from a vendor, I mean. We get the spicy
28:46
Speaker 2: ones and take the juice that you have from it
28:49
Speaker 2: and put it in things like tuna salad and things
28:53
Speaker 2: like that. My wife makes the best tuna salad in
28:55
Speaker 2: the world, and that's the way that she does it.
28:57
Speaker 2: She takes the pickle juice from the spicy pickles and
29:00
Speaker 2: puts it in the tuna salad. It's fantastic.
29:02
Speaker 10: You know, now that you say that, I don't know
29:04
Speaker 10: if you've ever had them, but at the grocery store
29:06
Speaker 10: you can buy these pickles called wickles. And it's like
29:09
Speaker 10: they're like a sweet spicy, but they're called wickles. And
29:12
Speaker 10: they're one of my favorite sweet, like just grocery store
29:15
Speaker 10: bought pickles other than just like regular pickles. And they
29:21
Speaker 10: make a really good chicken salad.
29:23
Speaker 2: Okay. All right. Now I'm officially hungry, just so you know.
29:27
Speaker 2: We had a text here, and then I'll let you
29:28
Speaker 2: go back to painting pickles. We have a text here
29:30
Speaker 2: that says, the pickle pin pointer, LOL. How's that? Pickle
29:34
Speaker 2: pin pointer. How's that?
29:36
Speaker 10: Perfect. All right.
29:37
Speaker 2: Give us all the details on Picklepalooza again.

30:02

30:15
Speaker 7: All right, Morgan.
30:16

Speaker 2: Welcome back to the show. It is 19 away from
33:09
Speaker 2: 10 o'clock on a Thursday morning. Ryan Nicholson is in

Speaker 2: charge of things this morning. Guarantee Bank Hotline 304-345-5858. Tony
33:16
Speaker 2: Taylor text 304-935-500. We had a text that said, will
33:21
Speaker 2: Pickle Rick be there? All right. So now Ryan's giving
33:24
Speaker 2: me this look. I had a feeling because they put
33:27
Speaker 2: a smiley face after it that I was being played there.
33:29
Speaker 2: So I had to look it up to see what
33:31
Speaker 2: Pickle Rick was. And it comes from Morty something or another.
33:34
Speaker 2: I reckon Morty, is that right? I had to look
33:37
Speaker 2: it up because I had a feeling that that wasn't
33:39
Speaker 2: an actual person. And usually I have to rely on
33:42
Speaker 2: Ryan for things like that. But I figured out, I
33:45
Speaker 2: looked it up myself. And I'm glad when I Googled
33:47
Speaker 2: it that it wasn't something that's going to give me
33:48
Speaker 2: a visit from HR. Just saying. It's all good. Yesterday
33:52
Speaker 2: we talked about the Putnam County homecoming happening. Actually, it
33:56
Speaker 2: kind of gets underway tomorrow through Sunday in Winfield. As
33:58
Speaker 2: part of that, there's going to be a memorial cruise
34:01
Speaker 2: in called the Local Legends Lost. And it's sponsored by
34:04
Speaker 2: the City of Winfield West Virginia Drag Racer Hall of
34:06
Speaker 2: Fame and the 19th Street Grinders. Here to talk about
34:09
Speaker 2: it is Jim Winter. Jim, good morning. Welcome to the show.
34:12
Speaker 16: Hey, Dave. Thanks for having me on today.
34:14
Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. So tell them what's going
34:16
Speaker 2: to be going on tomorrow evening.
34:18
Speaker 16: Well, you know, a year ago we had a little
34:20
Speaker 16: cruise over in Nitro because I lost three of my
34:22
Speaker 16: closest car friends. Everybody showed up. We talked about the
34:26
Speaker 16: good times. And everybody had such a good time. They
34:29
Speaker 16: started asking me later, hey, can we do this again
34:31
Speaker 16: next year? And I said, well, I don't know. Anyway,
34:34
Speaker 16: we decided to put it back together. I started on
34:36
Speaker 16: this back in February, spreading word to the area car clubs, hey,
34:41
Speaker 16: get me a list of your members that you have lost.
34:44
Speaker 16: And the name started rolling in. And I was very
34:47
Speaker 16: fortunate here in Winfield. Of course, the city of Winfield
34:50
Speaker 16: is one of my sponsors of this. Mayor Randy Barrett
34:53
Speaker 16: is very supportive of everything we do here at the
34:56
Speaker 16: Drag Racer Hall of Fame. He said, hey, bring it
34:58
Speaker 16: to Winfield. And that's what we're doing. I started out
35:02
Speaker 16: just taking names, and I realized very quickly this thing
35:05
Speaker 16: is snowballing, and I've got to limit it to people
35:08
Speaker 16: that have died in the last five years, or else
35:10
Speaker 16: this is going to be a two- or three-day car
35:12
Speaker 16: show just to give me enough time to read the names.
35:15
Speaker 16: Right now, I've got 63 people I'll be recognizing tomorrow
35:20
Speaker 16: during about a three-hour period, so it's turning into something
35:24
Speaker 16: pretty big.
35:25
Speaker 2: I mean, it sounds like it. Again, we're talking with
35:26
Speaker 2: Jim Winter, and this is, as you said, you're primarily
35:29
Speaker 2: limiting this to Those that have died within the last
35:32
Speaker 2: couple of years, is that what you said?
35:33
Speaker 16: Well, five years.
35:34
Speaker 2: Five years, five years, five years.
35:36
Speaker 16: And car guys or gals that have passed away in
35:38
Speaker 16: the last five years.
35:40
Speaker 2: And I mentioned this earlier, Jim, we have such a
35:42
Speaker 2: car community here in Appalachia, whether it's here in the
35:46
Speaker 2: Kanawha Valley or wherever you go. I mean, everywhere during
35:48
Speaker 2: the warm weather months, there's always a car show. going
35:51
Speaker 2: on somewhere? What is it that you think that, play
35:54
Speaker 2: the psychology part of it here, what is it that
35:56
Speaker 2: you think that makes cars, whether it's a cruise in
36:00
Speaker 2: or car show, such a big part of our American culture?
36:04
Speaker 16: We are a family. Car people are families. You can
36:08
Speaker 16: drive down the road, if you go to a major event,
36:10
Speaker 16: you drive down the road, and if somebody has the
36:12
Speaker 16: misfortune of breaking down, you'll see anywhere from three to
36:15
Speaker 16: 15 cars pull in behind them, when they go by
36:18
Speaker 16: to see if they can help. It's just a class
36:21
Speaker 16: of people that really enjoys the fellowship of each other,
36:24
Speaker 16: the camaraderie, and just getting out in the community and
36:27
Speaker 16: promoting our hobby.
36:31
Speaker 2: For most people that do this, it's not just a hobby.
36:34
Speaker 2: It's almost part of their lifestyle. It's an extension of
36:37
Speaker 2: who they are. Now, the Drag Racer Hall of Fame
36:40
Speaker 2: is going to be open. And if anybody hasn't been there,
36:43
Speaker 2: this is really cool. I was there. You mentioned Mayor
36:45
Speaker 2: Randy Barrett. When this thing first kind of got up
36:48
Speaker 2: and running, he invited me to come over. My wife
36:50
Speaker 2: and I were over there, and he brought us and
36:52
Speaker 2: gave us a little bit of a tour. And I
36:53
Speaker 2: was involved in a car show with one of our
36:55
Speaker 2: sister stations here at the mountain, and back in the spring,
36:58
Speaker 2: I think it was, and there may be some, I
37:00
Speaker 2: don't know. But anyway, I had a friend of mine
37:03
Speaker 2: from one of the stations here, and we got to
37:06
Speaker 2: actually go in and take a look at the Drag
37:07
Speaker 2: Racers Hall of Fame. If you haven't seen that, Jim,
37:10
Speaker 2: it is really, really something cool for here in the
37:13
Speaker 2: Kanawha Valley.
37:14
Speaker 16: Dave, thanks for promoting it, because I've got a book
37:17
Speaker 16: in there. You sign in, and it's amazing. The names
37:20
Speaker 16: on that are from other states. I mean, people come through,
37:23
Speaker 16: they stop, they go in, and It's covering our local heritage,
37:26
Speaker 16: our local history. Of course, the original Winfield drag strip
37:30
Speaker 16: was just about two miles up the road, so it's
37:32
Speaker 16: a logical place to put it. We've got photographs, artifacts,
37:36
Speaker 16: I mean, old trophies. You can go in there and
37:38
Speaker 16: easily spend, what, an hour just looking around.
37:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, there's... As you said, there's photographs, and
37:45
Speaker 2: you'll probably see somebody you recognize because I was in
37:47
Speaker 2: there looking around with Shockley from 98.7 The Mountain when
37:51
Speaker 2: we were at that car show a couple of months ago,
37:52
Speaker 2: and I was like, that's Danny Jones. That's right. Former
37:56
Speaker 2: Charleston Mayor Danny Jones, who was quite the drag racer
37:58
Speaker 2: back in his day. Danny Jones is in there.
38:01
Speaker 16: Right, and he was actually, as a side note here,
38:03
Speaker 16: he was very instrumental in developing and promoting the Charleston
38:07
Speaker 16: Boulevard Rod Run and Doo-Wop, which for a number of
38:09
Speaker 16: years was West Virginia's largest car show.
38:12
Speaker 7: Indeed it was.
38:13
Speaker 2: All right, so give us all the information. And I
38:16
Speaker 2: will say, if you go to the PutnamCountyHomecoming.com website, they
38:20
Speaker 2: do a great job with that website promoting everything that's
38:23
Speaker 2: going on with the homecoming and Winfield. Again, you guys
38:25
Speaker 2: are going to kind of get it going tomorrow. There's
38:26
Speaker 2: activities tomorrow. on Saturday and on Sunday, including the parade
38:30
Speaker 2: on Sunday as well, PutnamCountyHomecoming.com. But just give us all
38:35
Speaker 2: the info again.
38:36
Speaker 16: We are actually the kickoff event for the Putnam County Homecoming.
38:40
Speaker 16: I didn't realize this was all going to link together
38:43
Speaker 16: in time to get our event on their poster, but
38:46
Speaker 16: they welcomed us with open arms as a kickoff event.
38:49
Speaker 16: So we're pleased to be there. It will be this Friday,
38:52
Speaker 16: September 11th. That is a National Day of Remembrance Day.
38:56
Speaker 16: We're converting it to, as well as a national day,
38:59
Speaker 16: a local day of remembrance as we remember our car
39:02
Speaker 16: gals and guys that have passed during the last five years.
39:05
Speaker 16: They're gone, but they're not forgotten. Once again, that will
39:08
Speaker 16: be Friday, September 11th, 5 p.m. until dusk. It's at
39:12
Speaker 16: the Winfield Municipal Building. That's on Route 817 in Winfield. Actually,
39:16
Speaker 16: directly across the street from McDonald's. You can't miss the
39:19
Speaker 16: big golden arches sign. When you see that, look across
39:21
Speaker 16: the street. You'll see the Winfield Municipal Building. It's got
39:24
Speaker 16: a big green sign across the front of it. And
39:26
Speaker 16: you'll see, hopefully, 150, 200 cars if the weather holds.
39:30
Speaker 4: For us.
39:30
Speaker 2: Well, it's looking actually, I mean, we got rain off
39:32
Speaker 2: and on today and tomorrow. But from what I'm hearing,
39:36
Speaker 2: Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes is telling me that by
39:39
Speaker 2: tomorrow evening, it's going to start to kind of move
39:42
Speaker 2: out a little bit. So high school football, I know
39:44
Speaker 2: is going to be going on tomorrow night. And so
39:46
Speaker 2: things are looking pretty good for you, I think, tomorrow night.
39:48
Speaker 2: But come on out and enjoy it anyway, Jim. It's
39:50
Speaker 2: always a pleasure to talk to you and have you
39:52
Speaker 2: on the show. And I'll be seeing you this weekend.
39:54
Speaker 2: Thanks a lot.
39:54
Speaker 16: I'll look forward to it. Thank you so much for
39:56
Speaker 16: having me on.
39:57
Speaker 8: All right.

40:56
Speaker 4: During the inspection of our old unit, their technician discovered
40:59

41:57
Speaker 3: a challenge, my son and I decided it was time

Speaker 2: It's a thursday morning welcome back to the show 951
43:10
Speaker 2: metro news midday powered by selling gold all business and
43:12
Speaker 2: i know i've got the wrong show So Ben Salango
43:16
Speaker 2: just got a free commercial there, and I forgot what
43:19
Speaker 2: show I was on. No, this is the Dave Allen Show,
43:21
Speaker 2: 580 Live. Right, Ryan? This is 580 Live. How about
43:24
Speaker 2: I say this? The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live
43:26
Speaker 2: brought to you in part by Huston's Pizza. This month
43:29
Speaker 2: at Huston's, get a large 18-inch pepperoni pizza and an
43:31
Speaker 2: order of meatballs only $ 24.
43:32
Speaker 16: 99.
43:32
Speaker 2: Find your nearest Huston's for delivery, dining, or pickup at hustonspizza.com.
43:37
Speaker 2: It is unbelievable to me all the things that are
43:40
Speaker 2: going on here over the next couple of days. Haven't
43:42
Speaker 2: even mentioned the home opener that is for Marshall. The
43:47
Speaker 2: Mountaineers are at home. Ribfest, which we talked about with
43:51
Speaker 2: Aaron Wood, that kicks off later today. And I do
43:54
Speaker 2: want to remind you that if you're looking for something
43:56
Speaker 2: different to do for lunch, Ribfest doesn't officially open with
43:59
Speaker 2: the admission prices until 4 o'clock. They are opening, though,
44:02
Speaker 2: from 11 to 2. No admission charge from 11 to
44:06
Speaker 2: 2 today and tomorrow. If you want to go out
44:10
Speaker 2: and you want to get something different for lunch, you
44:12
Speaker 2: don't pay any admission between 11 and 2. Now, some
44:15
Speaker 2: of them are still getting set up, but most of
44:17
Speaker 2: them got there last night. And from what I understand,
44:19
Speaker 2: the ribs have been smoking ever since. But if you
44:23
Speaker 2: want to head down there over to Shawnee and you
44:24
Speaker 2: want to get yourself some ribs today or tomorrow, there's
44:27
Speaker 2: no admission charge between 11 and 2. if you want
44:30
Speaker 2: to go over there and check that out for lunch. Picklepalooza,
44:33
Speaker 2: we just talked about that. Chilling on the Elk, which
44:35
Speaker 2: we're going to get into on tomorrow's show. Boomtown Days
44:40
Speaker 2: in Nitro, I will be there on Saturday morning for
44:44
Speaker 2: a time. Tonight, starting at 7, open sky, open mic
44:49
Speaker 2: night at City Center at Slight Plaza. 47th Annual Mound
44:54
Speaker 2: Arts and Crafts Festival, Saturday in South Charleston. There's a
44:57
Speaker 2: musical being presented at the Auburn in St. Auburn's Mountain
45:00
Speaker 2: Stage Sunday night at the Culture Center. The Leah's Legacy
45:04
Speaker 2: 5K run and two-mile walk at City Center at Slack Plaza,
45:06
Speaker 2: that is on Sunday. And I'm sure I left something out.
45:10
Speaker 2: And as I said yesterday, please stop with all this.
45:12
Speaker 2: There's nothing to do.
45:14
Speaker 14: Really?
45:15
Speaker 2: If you can't find something to do here in the
45:17
Speaker 2: Kanawha Valley over the next couple days, including, like I said,
45:20
Speaker 2: the Putnam County Homecoming, then that is on you. Let
45:25
Speaker 2: me get to some text. Text says, Dave, did you
45:26
Speaker 2: see we might get another $ 5, 000 from Trump? Trump's policies
45:30
Speaker 2: are failing so hard without opposition because Democrats hold no
45:33
Speaker 2: majority that he has to once again bribe people to
45:36
Speaker 2: vote Republican. He's promising $ 5, 000 this time. He promised $ 5, 000
45:41
Speaker 2: for a Doge dividend not received. He promised $ 2, 000 for
45:45
Speaker 2: a tariff dividend, again, not received. He already owes $ 2, 000.
45:49
Speaker 2: me $ 7, 000. When am I going to get that? As
45:52
Speaker 2: I see it, Trump and his policies have cost me
45:53
Speaker 2: more money than have helped me save or have helped
45:56
Speaker 2: me earn more, and this is just another lie from
45:58
Speaker 2: the man with the blank-shaped mouth, says a texter.
46:03
Speaker 16: All right.
46:04
Speaker 2: On the whole Rick and Morty thing, because somebody asked
46:06
Speaker 2: about Pickle Rick, and I had to look up to
46:08
Speaker 2: see what Pickle Rick was. They sent me the whole
46:12
Speaker 2: Google thing here, and the texter says, Rick and Morty
46:15
Speaker 2: makes a Simpsons family guy and American dad Is that true, Ryan? Okay.
46:21
Speaker 2: Ryan's my culture guy when it comes to things like this.
46:24
Speaker 2: Coming up later today, Metro News Midday with 13 News
46:27
Speaker 2: and tonight live anchor Amanda Barron and me, powered by
46:29
Speaker 2: Selangor Law. Jeff Jenkins has the news. Some of the
46:32
Speaker 2: cadets of the Mountaineer Challenge Academy are going to join
46:35
Speaker 2: us ahead of their 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony. Kevin Barry from
46:38
Speaker 2: the WVU Alumni Association will stop by. Mentioned earlier that
46:41
Speaker 2: country music superstar Del Nora is playing Ribfest tonight. She's
46:45
Speaker 2: going to join us in studio today. Metro News meteorologist
46:48
Speaker 2: Brian Hughes is on a boat, or at least he
46:50
Speaker 2: will be. He was the other day. Did not saw
46:53
Speaker 2: him around here, but I think he's heading back up.
46:54
Speaker 2: But anyway, the 50th annual Ohio River Sternwheel Festival is
46:59
Speaker 2: happening in Marietta, Ohio. That's where Brian and several other
47:01
Speaker 2: Sternwheelers are. We'll talk to him. And, of course, Open
47:04
Speaker 2: Line West Virginia also just added to the show. I
47:07
Speaker 2: don't know if you saw this or not, but there's
47:08
Speaker 2: been a big controversy down in my native land down
47:11
Speaker 2: in Logan County. And it has to do with Logan
47:14
Speaker 2: Elementary School. Logan Elementary School, Logan High School, and Logan
47:17
Speaker 2: Middle School all located on Middleburg Island in Logan. Last
47:22
Speaker 2: school year, Logan Elementary School had a fire. It did
47:26
Speaker 2: not destroy the building, but there was a fire. And
47:29
Speaker 2: the students had to be moved to Logan Middle School,
47:33
Speaker 2: which I said is they're all three schools are in
47:35
Speaker 2: one location there. So they closed the elementary school and
47:38
Speaker 2: they moved the students over to Logan Middle School. And
47:41
Speaker 2: they were hoping, the parents were, that the elementary school
47:45
Speaker 2: would be able to open. It was announced within the
47:47
Speaker 2: last couple of days, I guess by the Logan County
47:50
Speaker 2: Board of Education, that the school would not be reopening
47:54
Speaker 2: and that the kids would remain at a combined Logan Elementary,
47:58
Speaker 2: Logan Middle School. It is a very, very big deal
48:00
Speaker 2: down there. And it's really a big deal statewide because
48:05
Speaker 2: it's gotten a lot of attention because other communities have
48:08
Speaker 2: faced similar things, not necessarily with a fire, tragically, but
48:13
Speaker 2: with things like consolidation and things of that nature. And
48:17
Speaker 2: we're going to talk to Shana Thompson, who is a
48:19
Speaker 2: parent of some, I'm not sure how many kids she has,
48:23
Speaker 2: but she has at least one that I'm aware of
48:25
Speaker 2: that attends Logan Elementary School. And she's got a real
48:28
Speaker 2: issue with the way things are handled down there. So
48:31
Speaker 2: we're going to talk to her on that coming up
48:33
Speaker 2: on the show today as well. Guarantee Bank Hotline 304-345-5858.
48:37
Speaker 2: Tony Vitello, text 304-935-5008. Text says, Dave, did you happen
48:43
Speaker 2: to see that John Fetterman made an appearance at the
48:45
Speaker 2: Republican midterm convention last night? He's getting slammed by Democrats
48:49
Speaker 2: online now. Don't you just love that liberal tolerance that
48:55
Speaker 2: they lecture the rest of us about? I just got
48:58
Speaker 2: TV on the studio here, as we always do. And
49:01
Speaker 2: I just saw Fetterman. I saw where Fetterman was there.
49:05
Speaker 2: I mean, to me, it's it's I mean, I'm all
49:09
Speaker 2: about people working together bipartisanship. I talk about it on
49:12
Speaker 2: all the time that just because you have different political
49:14
Speaker 2: beliefs doesn't mean you can't sit down, have a cup
49:16
Speaker 2: of coffee, have dinner, have a beer, talk about it, whatever.
49:19
Speaker 1: But.
49:21
Speaker 2: A sitting senator, I'll get it out here, like John
49:30
Speaker 2: Fetterman making an appearance at an RNC, that does seem
49:32
Speaker 2: a little bit weird to me. I'm just saying. But
49:36
Speaker 2: I did not see. What are you talking about? Meadows
49:41
Speaker 2: just comes in here talking to himself. You know there's
49:43
Speaker 2: nobody in the room with you, right? You're just coming
49:45
Speaker 2: here talking to yourself.
49:45
Speaker 12: I was talking to someone in the hallway, and I
49:48
Speaker 12: inadvertently opened the door too soon, and I wasn't done,
49:50
Speaker 12: and I apologize for busting in on your broadcast.
49:52
Speaker 2: There is a sign there. I don't know if you've
49:55
Speaker 2: ever seen it that says on air. If it's on
49:59
Speaker 2: a spreadsheet, you'd know it. You know, I'm just busting you, man.
50:04
Speaker 2: We're just having fun here. Well, you know, I'm not
50:06
Speaker 2: mad at you. I deserved it. I screwed up. I'm
50:09
Speaker 2: just kidding with you. All right. So let me get
50:13
Speaker 2: back to some text here. Text says, will there be
50:15
Speaker 2: any animals from the Putnam County shelter during the homecoming?
50:18
Speaker 2: I know they're overflowing just like Kanawha County is. Don't know.
50:20
Speaker 2: I will check on that. Text says, Florida guy here, Dave.
50:23
Speaker 2: The hyper speculation about AI wiping out mankind is just that.
50:28
Speaker 2: God plainly says how mankind will be dealt with, and
50:31
Speaker 2: all the media bravo Sierra is only to draw eyeballs
50:35
Speaker 2: and clicks. Fake news media gets worse by the moment,
50:38
Speaker 2: if that is even possible. Coming up on this show tomorrow,
50:43
Speaker 2: it is Friday, which means we'll introduce you to another
50:45
Speaker 2: Adopt Me, Please Pet of the Week from the Kanawha-Charleston
50:47
Speaker 2: Humane Association, brought to you by Almost Heaven Interiors. Mitch
50:50
Speaker 2: and Sheldon on the Elk, we'll talk about that tomorrow,
50:52
Speaker 2: and it is the final episode weekend for the Charleston
50:56
Speaker 2: Dirty Birds over at Goldmont Ballpark. And they have a
50:59
Speaker 2: series against Lexington, which will get underway tomorrow. They are
51:02
Speaker 2: going to be paying tribute to first responders and whatnot
51:05
Speaker 2: and remembrance of 9-11. So we'll be joined by folks
51:07
Speaker 2: from the Dirty Birds coming up on the show tomorrow
51:10
Speaker 2: as well. All right, Meadows, what you got?
51:13
Speaker 12: Coming up on the show today, Hoppy Kirchival joins us
51:15
Speaker 12: at 1106.
51:16
Speaker 2: He's going to talk about... Morrissey versus Big Jim.
51:20
Speaker 12: He's going to talk about Trump's $ 5, 000 promise last night.
51:24
Speaker 12: We'll get into that with the dean. Also, Andrew Donaldson
51:27
Speaker 12: comes on your show a lot, our show commentator in
51:29
Speaker 12: West Virginia.
51:29
Speaker 9: Watch.
51:30
Speaker 12: He's going to talk about the governor's shirt this past
51:33
Speaker 12: Saturday at the WVU game.
51:34
Speaker 2: We'll get into that, plus news of the day, much,
51:37
Speaker 2: much more as well. All right, TJ Meadows, Dave Wilson
51:39
Speaker 2: coming up with Talk Line 1006. I'll see you later
51:41
Speaker 2: today with Metro News Midday with 13 News and Tonight
51:43
Speaker 2: Live anchor Amanda Barron. Brought to you by Salango Law.
51:46
Speaker 2: See you then. Until then, have fun and love somebody.
