- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Good morning, everybody.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Happy New Year.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: 2020 is here.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: And uh I hope you're ready for it.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I know God is.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: I know uh we always, my wife and I always start the year kind of reflecting on where we kind of kind of you've heard me talk about it before.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: One of my favorite stories is Mark 10, Blind Bartimaeus, and Jesus asked him, What do you want me to do for you?
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Jesus asked the blind beggar, what do you want me to do for you?
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: And uh we just like to start our year thinking about that.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: What do we want this year?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And um, and obviously we don't mean it like entirely selfishly, although I'm not going to tell you there isn't some selfishness in it, because I don't think all selfishness is wrong.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: For instance, self-care is not self-ish.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: But um I just want to challenge you, man.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I I want to help you.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Gosh, I mean it with all my heart.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: I want to help you live uh as close to the life God wants you to be enjoying as you possibly can.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: We're all at different places.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Life has uh given us resources or gifts or abilities different from each other.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Life has dealt uh pain and trauma and challenge in our lives in different degrees.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: So um the issue is not are are we, you know, if we are do we look like we're doing as well or the same?
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: The issue is um are we are we putting one foot in front of the other and moving this ball down the field and um just getting healthier and more whole?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: And uh I'll be honest with you, man.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Having issues is not the issue.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Everybody's got issues, it's what you decide to do with your issues, and that's what we're about.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: We're about helping you figure out how to jump into this stuff and uh and make it a really, really cool year.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: So uh as I got thinking about what I want to do this year, you know, honestly, I had a direction I was gonna go, but I never could, I just didn't feel great about it.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And uh, like in the last couple of days the Lord has just stirred me in a different way.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Uh, interesting that our first eight-minute mind shift is on the 8th of January, which is kind of cool.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Eight being the number of new beginnings.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: And um the beautiful thing about the way this stuff works is uh his mercies are new every morning.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: And we can hit the restart button and say, God, um I'm I'm gonna start over this year.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go after some things inside of me uh and outside of me uh that I feel you're leading me to.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: So I want to talk to you a little bit about toxin.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: You know, that you hear a lot about detox diets and talking about how the body, through what we eat and what we do and don't do, exercise and not exercise, how toxins build up in our body.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: And a toxin is uh a poison, would be one way of looking at it, but it's there's something interesting about the definition of a toxin.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: A toxin is a type of poison produced, keyword here, within the living cells and the systems and organs of a living thing.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: In other words, toxins, they're not out here.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Things out here might cause or become toxins once they're inside of us.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: But again, I'm cluing in on that for this simple reason.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: I believe the greatest challenges between you and the life you want, you and the life God wants for you, are inside of you, not outside.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And so our effort is always aimed at helping you identify, challenge, and change.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: We've talked a lot about uh um, you know, question, capture, question, replace.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: I couldn't think of that first word, capture, question, and replace.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: So I want to talk to you a little bit about toxins this morning.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: But uh, you know, you know me, I'm kind of I want you to think about it in the sense of your soul and spirit, not your body, although obviously the principles are somewhat uh transferable.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Toxins don't necessarily kill you.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, obviously they can if they if they get severe enough, but the the level of toxicity that we're talking about is not the level of poison, if you will, that will kill you.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: But what it does is weaken and torment you.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Weaken and torment you.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Listen to some of the things that are some of the symptoms of physical toxicity, but I want you to think about what it says to us about our soul and our spirit.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: One of the symptoms of toxicity is brain fog.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Isn't that interesting?
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Just kind of a state of mind where your brain just feels foggy and just isn't working crisply and like, why can't I remember?
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Why can't I, you know, engage a logical process and stick to it?
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Why, why, why do I, my emotions go here, there, and yonder?
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: So one of the symptoms of toxicity physically, but I believe also in your soul and spirit, is just a fogginess.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Another one is digestive issues.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: You know, one of the uh things that toxicity does in our bodies is gives us the digestive issues, stomach, intestines, uh, you know, all kinds of things.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Well, think about that in your soul and spirit.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Digestion is taking in nourishment, integrating it properly into your body, assimilating it, if you will, and then discharging the waste products, bringing in what you need, digesting it, applying it properly, and then eliminating what you don't need.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: So digestive problems, problems doing that.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Obviously, what might be a problem is taking in the wrong stuff, not enough of the right stuff, um, not properly digesting what you take in.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Well, I think one of the main reasons we don't digest things well is we live in a hurry, and hurry is not good for digestion.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: So, uh, whatever.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: We're just gonna talk about stuff as we go.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: I want to help you make this the best year you've ever had.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Another symptom of toxicity is fatigue or low energy.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: You know, you're just kind of going through your day or in the morning or at night or whatever, and you're just like, gosh, I'm so tired.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Why am I so tired?
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Or you know, you think about things you used to do that you had the energy for, and you're like, Man, where in the world did my energy go?
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: So sometimes fatigue, low energy, uh again, applied to your soul, a lack of you know, excitement, enthusiasm, passion, um, an inconsistency to your emotional um well-being.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: This was an interesting one.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Another sign of toxicity physically is smells or odors that accompany you, that are coming out of your body.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: In other words, your body, your skin is a is an organ of elimination, and your your body's trying to eliminate the toxins, and they create an odor around you.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Well, what about soul and spirit toxicity creating an odor, if you will, around us that uh isn't pleasant to other people, that it it makes us not fun to be around.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Um, another symptom of toxicity is just general aches and pains.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: I would say most of the time they're in your joints, but just a general sort of ache and pain in your body.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Now, let's apply that to soul and spirit.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: What would toxicity do?
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Toxicity would would just create kind of a general sense of discomfort.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: I'm not comfortable, you know.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: I kind of go this direction, I'm not comfortable.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: I kind of go this direction, I'm not comfortable.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: My relationships, there's aches and pains.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: The third symptom I want to mention is disproportionate sensitivities.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: In other words, when we have toxicity in our body, we're overly inappropriately sensitive to certain things.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: It might be smells, it might be things we eat, it could be challenges and anxiety, it could be all kinds of things.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Well, now apply that to your soul and spirit.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Are there areas, are there people, are there situations, subjects where you have an unusually inappropriate, disproportionate sensitivity?
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: When certain people look at you a certain way, treat you a certain way, talk to you a certain way, when you get in certain situations with a certain type of person, are you do you walk away thinking, gosh, why did I react that way?
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: All of those things we just talked about are potential symptoms of toxicity in our soul.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: And what we're gonna do for the next few weeks, probably, probably this month, is talk about how to detox your soul.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: But uh let me give you one thing to think about.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: If then, if then, if this blank that, um I I threw a little thing up there right before telling you that we're getting ready to do our thing, and I said, Do you have the cart before the horse?
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Um what does that mean?
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Well, normally the horse is out front pulling the cart, so you have some situation that is is providing the energy, strength, and doing the work, and the cart, if you will, is enjoying the work of the horse.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Well, what I'm getting at is this I believe there's a lot of us as Christians that are suffering under expectations and challenges and judgment that uh has already been taken care of.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: In other words, we're attempting to earn something, deserve something that we already have.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Lord willing, what we're gonna talk about next week is one of the most important things for you to begin this year in a way differently, maybe for some of us, than we ever have before.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: And that is learning how to recognize the toxicity of if-then situations.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Basically, conditions that we put on God's love, God's approval, self-acceptance, and things of that sort.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Love you guys, man.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Looking forward to having a great year together.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, if you think about it, throw a thought or two on the comments about toxicity and toxins that you found in your own soul or the people around you.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: All right?
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Love you guys.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: See you next week.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Bye.
