It's still welcome. Everybody. Welcome to this week's edition is surreal to show
0:21
as the number seven and thirty four from Park seven, twenty twenty four.
0:25
This is your aw Revolution, recap and review edition of ass R Team You.
0:33
I am one after the show, I am Jeff Beck joined every single
0:37
week my gost the one only Doctor Trey Franklin. Doctor Trey. Was it
0:42
bittersweet to say goodbye to sing my friend? Actually yeah, I'm not gonna
0:47
lie. Kind of was like I was, actually, uh, you know,
0:52
we talked about lasting's show, like he's really like the last link to
0:55
my initial fandom. And then I remember we said Dustin Roads out there too,
1:00
though, So I mean, uh yeah, I guess Dustin and Sting
1:03
are like my final links to my childhood wrestling fandom. So yeah, it's
1:07
it's it's it's a bit bittersweet, but uh, I think all in all,
1:11
I think the performance kind of made up for it. Yeah, there's
1:14
like a handful of guys left that wrestled when I was a kid, Billy
1:19
Gunn, Jeff Jarrett, Dustin Rhodes, and I think that's about it.
1:26
Doctor Trey. There's really nobody else left at this point when was when would
1:34
you say, if you were going to say, if you were a pinpoint
1:36
of time, what year was your was your birth into wrestling fandom? It
1:40
would be like ninety three, ninety four, ninety five era, So right
1:45
around Hogan going to w CW, like the last Summer Slam, Hogan Yokozuna
1:52
and then Hogan going to w CW time Yep, yep, that would be
1:56
it. I wrestlemint Aten is the one that I always think about, but
1:59
I mean a cross the board. Wwwwe I mean Jericho he kind of borderline.
2:06
Well, so with Jerich went to ECW and what nineteen ninety five,
2:10
so He's I think probably like ninety four to ninety six would be like the
2:15
safe zone of like this is when you were a kid growing up in impression
2:19
wrestling, and Jericho's is just barely in that era. I guess the ones
2:23
that are definitely there Jeff Jarrett, Billy Goahn, Dustin Rhodes. Yeah,
2:29
I would say anybody about the age of fifty two and up that is still
2:32
active would be in your MILLIONU Like so like me and John Cena are like
2:39
the same age and like one month apart, and I know he broke in
2:45
around ninety seven when he started wrestling in California and stuff for UPW. Yeah,
2:51
so anybody that's around the age of fifty and up that they're so active.
2:54
So yeah, Jarrett, Jericho, Billy Gunn, Dustin and that's yeah,
3:04
that's out the top of my head. That's about it. Yeah,
3:07
because there's like no real true veterans on the w E side of that great
3:12
length ever since Undertaker retired, I know, Rock being back of kind of
3:17
yeah, kind of Paul, I mean, Paul Hayman would be in your
3:21
list. Yeah, Hayman would be Haymen because you know early WCW, Like
3:27
I just saw a picture of him with the head Shrinkers. I guess speaking,
3:30
I guess RVD fits in there. Yeah for you, yeah, like
3:35
ninety six ish. For me, it's basically Dustin because Dustin I think debuted
3:39
in eighty nine. I remember one of the first when I talked about it
3:44
last week's show, like how I found Sting. I think Bash at the
3:46
Beach ninety four had the bunk house fuck match, like where they were on
3:53
a tractor trailer. Oh the black top was that? Was that the black
3:55
Well? There's the bunk House, there was the bunk House, the bunk
3:59
House Brawl where they're actually in like a silo. Then there was the match
4:02
with the black Top Bully, which was in the back of the truck as
4:06
it's going down the highway. Let me look your bash at the beach ninety
4:10
four real quick, Terry fucking bunk House buck defeated Dustin Roads and Arn Anderson.
4:16
That's the one where arn Anderson turns on Dustin. Yeah. The next
4:23
pay per view was Fall Brawl because I remember that match. Was that on
4:28
that card? That was a war Games match? Where's a Halloween havoc one
4:32
ninety before Halloween Havoc I'm looking at here. Defeated to arn Anderson because I
4:40
remember that bunk House buck match, bunk match, I think it was.
4:46
It was a bunk house brawl, I think is what they called it.
4:49
So was that what the one where they were in the back of the No,
4:54
that was the black top match because it's basically the back of the truck
4:59
going down the highway, fighting in the back of basically like a moving pig
5:03
pin type match, which was a god awful match. But it's just they
5:10
which have nobody I think. I don't think anybody's ever done that again,
5:13
No, I don't remember that one. Yeah, it's like Blacktop Bully here?
5:15
Yeah, where am I I'm seeing this right now? Just fall Brawl
5:20
or something. Yeah, like Google's are the Blacktop match? See why he
5:28
comes? Yet I didn't realize that was very Darcel. Oh is the black
5:32
Top Bully? Yeah, that's why I hercules Hernandez. It was the anniversary
5:38
of his passing yesterday, I think it was. And I forgot that he
5:41
was in w CW as the Super Invader. So oh, and something else
5:46
I learned today, jeffl Oh, it was a King of the Road match.
5:48
I'm sorry, doctor try in the uncensored nineteen ninety five. Okay,
5:54
so King of the Road against the black Top Bully. Yes, it was
5:58
very Darcher's name. I did learned today or two days ago that there was
6:03
a tag team in a propession called ICW that vinsick Man paid three thousand dollars
6:10
for him to secure the rights to their tag team name. The tag team
6:14
name was the Undertakers, the Undertakers, and I never knew that. I
6:19
never knew either. I will find the picture of it. I'll post it
6:23
on our Facebook page. Put this physic man to secure the rights to the
6:27
name the Undertaker had to pay a tag team three thousand dollars because that was
6:30
their name and they had the rights to it. He paid them for supposedly
6:34
paid them three thousand dollars and they didn't look like early Undertaker. They didn't
6:39
have the big hat of the oversized giant tie, but they were dressed in
6:44
black and had a little bit of face paint. It hadn't earn and he
6:47
supposed to paid them three thousand dollars to secure the name for a character that
6:51
he came up with, which became the Undertaker. The Undertakers in ICW huh
6:57
i WC iw so, so that was a that's nothing like Puerto Rico.
7:03
No, that's it's either the because there's two iws. There's the Carlos one
7:08
in Puerto Rico and there's also one in Pennsylvania called the i GU it's like
7:13
the International Wrestling Cartel, which is a show that runs uh you know,
7:17
Corey Graves worked that show a lot in his early days. Because there's two
7:21
shows around Pittsburgh and IWC's one and PWX is the other one. There you
7:26
got some wrestling history there I'm sure I didn't think it was going to take
7:30
us down this rabbit hole of the King of the Road match, but here
7:32
we are talking about it. Here on this week's edition of sr T You
7:36
Speaking to Classics. Doctor Trey AW held the Revolution this past Sunday from the
7:43
classic Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. There are two things I know
7:48
of this arena, Doctor Trey. One obviously professional wrestling, and two I
7:54
don't know if this falls into uh into your wheelhouse as well, but every
7:59
ACC tournament basketball tournament was held at the Greensboro Coliseum and I remember that a
8:05
lot as a kid in the nineties, and at one point was the home
8:09
of the Charlotte Hornets for one season when they were constructing the Charlotte Coliseum that
8:16
they that they turned around and played in. But yeah, Greensboro. It's
8:20
funny. Actually, one of the guys that I work with, that's one
8:24
of the other managers, actually has the Greensboro area and I was like,
8:26
he was on a coffee the other day, I'm like, oh, you're
8:28
in Greensboro, like say you know this and you know this, and I'm
8:31
like, hey, man, are you going to the AW show Saturday nine.
8:33
He was like, man, I ain't been wrestling and blah blah blah.
8:37
But he grew up in that area and he used to go to all
8:39
the old WCWNWA shows back when he was a kid. And he mentioned the
8:45
a SEC tournament, So yeah, those are kno gonna lie that. Like
8:48
seeing sixteen thousand people in the coliseum kind of gave me vibes back to those
8:54
you know, late eighties, early nineties ACC five or ACC tournament show Kate
9:00
her show her games, and a little bit of the old nwaw CW feuds
9:05
from my childhood. I assume you never saw a show there, doctor,
9:09
try no, because I lived when I when I was a kid in North
9:13
Carolina, I lived roughly about two two and a half hours away, and
9:18
you know in the eighties, two hours away is like a million miles.
9:22
Yeah, three days away. Yeah, I mean I remember, like when
9:26
I went to college with me and my high school sweart broke up because I
9:28
was moving eighty five miles away, like the one Who's Gone away. Yeah,
9:33
it's crazy to think how much it's different now with the advent of cell
9:37
phones and facetimes and you know, all those things like that it's like,
9:41
yeah, you can live like five six seven hours away from my girlfriend is
9:43
not a big deal. But back in the day, man, that ninety
9:46
miles was an eternity. So yeah, and then plus you know, we
9:52
were we didn't have the money to go to pay per views and stuff like
9:54
that, so we were a house show family. We didn't have pay per
9:58
view money. Jeff, I hear you, I hear you. My first
10:00
wrestling show was a w WF event in a local high school gym, so
10:07
it was a long time for me to ever make it a match to Square
10:09
Garden as well. Let's get into it. Pre show matches. You have
10:13
the Bank Bank Scissor Gang defeating Private Party, Willie Mac, Jeff, Chair
10:16
Jay Lethal and Satam Sing in a twelve person tag team match. We obviously
10:20
did not predict this one. Simply doctor try. I thought this was a
10:24
great twelve person tag team match. It was a fun match to kick off
10:26
the entring porse of the show. And these matches, as I've said many
10:30
at times, it can typically be cluster fs and this wasn't. This was
10:33
a fun match. Yeah. I mean, and two the people you mentioned
10:37
to start the show, two people of Jeff's you know, entry into professional
10:41
wrestling. Jeff Jarrett and Billy gunns Bill going strong, still looking like they
10:45
did back in nineteen ninety six. For the most part, they have not
10:48
aged. Yeah, it was a really really fun match, especially for like
10:52
adding private Party to the mix. And even though Bank Bank Sissor Gains been
10:56
around for a mother too, they really haven't worked together matches. So for
11:01
all those moving parts to have a pretty solid, fun opening match is great
11:07
sokrudos those guys are pulling it off. And hey, we almost forgot about
11:11
Jay White for a while, so at least we got a little about Jay
11:13
White payoff this past Wednesday as well. He does have a big match at
11:16
the Big Business Show that will be on AW Dynamite this upcoming Wednesday. Now.
11:22
Chris stat Landar and Will Not Nightingale defeated Julie Hart and sky Blue.
11:26
We did not predict this match. Great tag team match, fun back and
11:28
forth between both teams, and there was a storyline between both teams that made
11:33
this pre show match make sense. This is what we like about AW when
11:37
they have matches that make sense, which was a nearly huge portion of this
11:41
entire card. That's Tray fun one here on the pre show again. Yeah,
11:46
and I'm still trying to figure out and now once again I don't pay
11:48
attention to the Willow Nightingale Chris stat Landers storylines with that stuff very often.
11:54
Still try to figure out the Stokely Hathaway part of it myself, like T
11:58
forgre how that fits in. I just assume one of those, either Chris
12:01
or Willow at some points when it's heard to heel on the other one just
12:03
because Stokely's there. But yeah, like it's a storyline, it makes sense.
12:09
The match was actually pretty solid for four relatively new women wrestlers. They
12:13
don't have a ton of experience, and you know, just a good,
12:18
solid women's tag team match that made a lot of sense for everybody. Main
12:22
card opener here, Christian Cage defeats Daniel Garcia to retain the AWT and T
12:26
Championship. Doctor Trent and both had Christian Cage getting the victory. Fun start
12:28
with a great match to open up the main show. Garcia looked great in
12:31
the match as Christian Cage built him up. The in ring psychology from Christian
12:35
Cage in this match was really well executed. Christian Cage retained SoC to try
12:41
should we start putting Christian Cage on the Randy Orton level of just like great
12:46
veteran wrestlers that have the ability to make their opponents look good, make the
12:52
match makes sense, make this psychology make sense. Like, I mean,
12:56
I've been kind of singing some Christian Cah praise for a while now, but
13:01
he's just on a different level the last year, Like it's like everything's come
13:05
together, Like he's just phenomenal in this role. He may be the only
13:13
free agent signing I would think that has elevated his position in AEW from the
13:18
time he signed even though he was Impact World Champion, had the great match
13:22
with Kenny Omega, but after that felt down quite a bit. To where
13:26
he's at now. I think he might be one of those few guys I
13:30
think has just taken his game to the next level since going to be to
13:33
Aw Swerve Strickland, doctor Trace, Swerve Strickland. Okay, so Swerve and
13:37
Christian two out of like twenty. There's a lot of free agent signs by
13:41
AW. I mean that's a hard thing, but definitely Christian Cage. You
13:45
know, it's funny. A couple of weeks ago, I was really like
13:46
kind of tired of the character. I think I mentioned on the pre show
13:50
heading into this one when we previewed the program. This match is really good.
13:54
You cannot take away what he is as an in ring competitor. I
13:58
do feel like the character is kind of gotten a little bit stale, and
14:01
they kind of have to op it up here a little bit. And you're
14:05
starting to see them pull a couple pages out of Dowey's creative book lately,
14:07
where they're building towards matches like two weeks down the line on television, which
14:13
we'll see with Adam Copland taking on Christian Cage now in a couple of weeks
14:18
in an equip match on Dynamite, which is the right way to do things.
14:20
Always have like that big Marquee matchup or two on your on your television
14:26
programming because it works. Look what doa Doowey's doing? So maybe they'll turn
14:31
it around a little bit. I just feel like it's kind of been a
14:33
little bit stale with the patriarchy. Is that what it is? Well?
14:39
Yeah, I think I think the issue we have is we got well he
14:41
waited for the big Outam Copland payoff, which means this view has dragged on
14:46
a little bit long. Yeah, that's a good point. I think with
14:50
each time he gets into a new rivalry, it kind of does refreshen the
14:52
character a bit. But like this whole builds the equip match now almost six
14:58
months long, so it's kind of ran its course a little bit. But
15:03
you know, they're trying to get They're trying to do a long burn.
15:05
Like we complain that they do knee jerk storylines, but this one's like the
15:09
longest running storyline in the company right now, and it almost feels like it's
15:11
taking too long. Yeah. I think probably part of it is as we've
15:16
seen the Adam Copeland Christian Cage stuff play out, you know, twenty years
15:20
ago, so it's not necessarily refreshed. But I think that they're doing this
15:24
to lead to an eventual reunion that fans will probably eat up. But yeah,
15:28
it's been been a weird run in AW so far for Adam Coplan,
15:33
I got admit, and that has everything to do with Christian Cage. Next
15:37
match here is Eddie Kinkson defeating Brian Danielson to retain the AW Continental Crown Championship.
15:41
We've both at Eddie Kinkson getting the victory here. Awesome match felt like
15:45
a strong style Japanese match, which is typical of Eddie Kinkson's performances. The
15:48
run Kingston has been on the last three or four months with the Continental Cup
15:52
and his feud Slash gaining respect from the Blackpool Combat Club members has been some
15:56
some has been some of the best stuff in professional arrests right now. Kingson's
16:00
on a climb man like he is an early leader in the clubhouse for Breakout
16:04
Star of twenty twenty four. Great match heres he gets the victory over Brian
16:08
Danielson. See, I thought this was an okay match. There there are
16:11
points in there where their throat changing strikes and it just felt like their timing
16:18
was really off, which made the punches look a little bit off. But
16:21
that's just you know, me being I mean, the previous match was the
16:23
previous you know three matches had been really really good, so I thought there
16:26
was a couple of spots where their timing was just off. But overall,
16:30
good song match once again, good storytelling in this Eddie Kingston trying to get
16:33
the respect of Brian Danielson. You're finally getting the handshake postmatch, so the
16:38
storytime was on point. If the run Kings is on great. I just
16:41
thought there was a couple of spots in that match that just didn't look good,
16:47
but overall still a good performance. But the storytelling and getting the respect
16:52
of Bran Dans I think was the big payoff for it. Next match,
16:55
here is Wardlow defeating Chris Jericho, Powerhouse Hops, Lance Archer Hook, Brian
17:00
Cage, Magnus, and Dante Martin in an all star scramble match to receive
17:03
a future AW World Championship match that will take place at Big Business this coming
17:07
Wednesday. I had Wardlow, Doctor Trey had Powerhouse Hobbs. There's a good,
17:11
fast paced scramble match with a ton of action in it. There was
17:15
never a loll and all and all eight guys at a great job keeping me
17:18
engaged in this match. Wardlow now gets that AW World champions match that he's
17:22
been looking for, and I wonder if his time is now to become World
17:27
Champion or if this lead is leading to the return of MJF. I have
17:32
a feeling that these poseddowns that Wardlow has been doing where he's looking at like
17:36
the Titan Tron or the big screen just above the stage and during every show
17:41
is going to lead towards probably some sort of result of MJF returning here soon
17:48
Wardlow gets a big victory Doctor Trey. Yeah, it was a fun match,
17:52
and I didn't have high expectations for it because when you call it an
17:55
all star scramble match and one guy I really had never heard of, and
17:59
one guy I thought, what was a tag team six man competitor. For
18:03
the most part, my hope sport that high. But it was a really
18:06
fun match, and I love the interactions with Jericho and Hook because you know
18:11
that ties into tag which then ties into our childhood as well. So like
18:15
overall, that was a really fun match. Everybody looked good in the match,
18:18
which I think what you want to come out of this, and keeping
18:21
is so fast paced. Even though it was it was a pretty clean victory,
18:26
still allows everybody to look good, So I think that's the point when
18:30
you have a match like one of these. Next match is Roger Strong defeated
18:34
Orange Cassidy to win the aw International CHAMPIONIP. We both had Roger Strong getting
18:38
the victory solid match. It just felt like Orange Cassidy and he never really
18:41
had a chance due to the injuries he was selling going into this one.
18:45
I'm not sure the injury angle stuff with the Orange Cassidy resonates too much anymore,
18:48
as it feels like it's been a little overdone at this point. Sidebar
18:53
on this entire thing. It was great to see Kyle O'Reilly's return for the
18:56
first time in nearly two years, as it did feel like his career over
19:00
and a couple of reports out there led us to believe that his career may
19:03
be over. Roger Strong is your new aw International Champion doctor. Try.
19:08
Yeah. When they do the injury angles and they oversell it and they talk
19:14
about how much heart he's fighting with and the announcers kind of sell it that
19:17
way, it almost does the reverse for me, like it's not it's not
19:23
the ringing now, or it's not the commentator's job to tell me how much
19:27
paint he is in. It's Orange Cassidy's jobs. You tell me that and
19:30
make me feel that way. So it does kind of lend to like,
19:37
I don't need you to tell me he's an underdog all the time because he's
19:40
not very big. We get that. So I was just really happy for
19:45
Roder Strong to actually get, you know, a really solid win, get
19:48
a title under his belt. I have loved the roder Strong character since you
19:52
know, he got involved with Tavid and Bennett and then leading into stuff with
19:56
the NSBC Kingdom, so I'm really excited for him. Plus, it says
20:00
Orange Up kind of like they do with somebody else later in the show,
20:03
that either hey, he can keep fighting for this belt, or he could
20:04
move on to something else and we can refreshing up this whole division for the
20:08
international title, which has no international people really involved in in right now.
20:12
Next match year is Blackpool Combat Club defeating FTR with both at FDR again and
20:17
the victory. This match felt like a throwback eighties tag team match, which
20:21
is fitting since it took place in the Gransboro Call'll see Him. The result
20:25
was pretty surprising for me because it has felt like the Blackpool Combat Club has
20:27
been beating up FDR pretty good lately. I don't think we've ever seen FTR
20:32
dominated like this. It felt like, at least to me, that FDR
20:36
was out matched throughout this bout as well. And then Cizarrow maybe one of
20:40
the greatest tag team wrestlers in history based on how many successful teams. He
20:45
has been on with so many different tag team partners. The Blackpool Combat Club
20:48
gets the victory over FDR Doctor Trey. Yeah. I didn't factor in the
20:52
mock star power this match when I was making my predictions, and I guess
20:56
Max has more star power than FDR in their eyes. But you guys are
21:00
like, like Claudio has been the glue of the Blackpool Combat Club. We've
21:03
seen him team with Moss, we see him tag with you know, with
21:07
Brian Danson, and when you see him tag with like he's tagged with everybody
21:10
and they've all been like, we are you that, Like they've all been
21:12
good tag teams. So uh And then you're right, you go back to
21:15
his time in WWE and the time and the Ring of Honor, like the
21:18
dudes like just the perfect tag partner because he can do everything. He can
21:22
change his style to fit his partner's style. But yeah, overall, like
21:26
it was a really damn good tag team match. But you're right, like,
21:30
to me, it's surprising, you know, with our predictions going,
21:33
Hey, they're probably have a tag tournament starting up. Does that make Blackpool
21:37
Combat Club the favorites going in this? Is they beat FTR creen is that
21:40
the route we're headed towards. I think that was definitely the point of it
21:42
for for real. I think that uh definitely lends true to the tag team
21:47
tournament they want to be doing right now and potentially a rematch in the finals.
21:52
Next match year is tim withs Tony Storm defeating Deanna Parrazzo to retain the
21:55
AW Women's World Championship with both in time, with Tony Storm getting victory.
21:59
This was one of the better feuds in matches the AW Women's division in a
22:03
while. Despite taking the loss, Deanna Pirozzo's future in AW looks bright.
22:07
It will be interesting to see where Thymeless Tony Storm goes from here with some
22:11
new additions coming to the women's division, hopefully some stars returning from injury.
22:15
If I had a guess, it does feel like Serhen Deem could be the
22:18
next contender for Timeless Tony Storm. She's definitely getting a decent push on Collision,
22:22
but we expect a big name to be coming via Big Business soon.
22:26
Nonetheless, Timeless Tony Storm defeats Diana Froze Doctor Trey. Yeah. Really good
22:32
match. Shout out to Mariah May for pulling off an almost flawless. Tony
22:36
Storm impression, by the way, that was really good. I am a
22:41
little bit more concerned about Deanna's place in the division because there is a lot
22:45
of star power, and I just hope she doesn't end up, you know,
22:47
trying to date, you know, somebody from the former Jahn Society or
22:51
anything like that. Like, there's a lot of people that come in hot
22:55
and in that women's division and then once they have their push, they get
22:59
kind of pushed down to the bob of the pile a little bit. So
23:00
I'm hoping Dianna is not one of them. Continue is one of my favorite
23:03
women's wrestlers to watch. He's fantastic in the ring. But Tony Storm may
23:07
be the best character on television right now in professional wrestling. So they're gonna
23:12
ride. They're gonna ride this train as far as they can. Hopefully they
23:15
don't have her date somebody in JS, because I don't think Steve mclin will
23:18
be too happy about that. Doctor Trey Well, I mean, you know,
23:22
Jake Hager's Mary, so you always just do that, and you know
23:25
it's it's all television anyway, Yeah, true true. Next match is Will
23:29
Osprey defeeding Kenoski to Cashio. We both had will Ospray gain the victory.
23:32
Incredible match. I love the back and forth throughout this one and how evenly
23:34
matched they both were. The weak arm kickouts from both men told a really
23:38
great story between two warriors in the ring. I cannot wait to watch Ostbray
23:42
and a aw Television each week going forward, and PROPSI Kitashka, who has
23:48
been ascending upwards for quite some time. Osprey followed up with a great match
23:52
on Wednesdays Downam against Kyle Fletcher as well. This was an incredible match Doctor
23:56
Trey will Osprey defeeding Kenoski to Keshka. Fantasticatic match, really well done.
24:03
You know me being the manager, you know aficionado. Even the Don Kallis
24:08
facials in this match where like he's even torn watching it as well, like
24:14
you see him, you know, half cheer for half cheer and then half
24:17
grown at the same time for certain moves. I thought was really well done.
24:22
I don't like we talked about the show last week. I am surprised
24:26
that we didn't get like a violent heel turn, like a violent turn against
24:30
will Osprey. It was just kind of like I don't know, a mutual
24:34
love of heels. Like it was almost like I don't know if I've ember
24:40
seeing like two heels wrestler match and afterwards you're like they're kind of like embracing
24:44
each other almost. You know. It was kind of weird, but it
24:48
keeps him on that side of defense at least, and that position Zima for
24:52
bigger matches against some of the baby faces in AW. Next match is samo
24:56
Joe de Phoenix for Strickland and Hangman adam As in a three way match and
25:00
retaining the AW World Championship. We both had Samojo again the victory here.
25:04
The match itself I thought was all right. It felt a little too slow
25:07
paced for my liking. It looked like every pin breakup was nearly botched.
25:11
I did like Swerve not using Prince Nana's crown to win the championship and the
25:15
announcer's hyping up that Hangman may have tapped out to avoid Swurf of winning the
25:18
AW World Championship. The fans are clearly really buying Swerb's squest to become AW
25:23
World Champion, and it'll be interesting to see where this goes heading into the
25:27
new AW pay per view Dynasty. A lot of people think, according to
25:30
early reports, that Swerve will being a AW World Championship match again. So
25:36
if it's against samo Joe, that means he's retained against Wardlow. Maybe MJF
25:41
is back at Big Business as well. It was a it was an okay
25:45
match, Doctor Trey samoj obtains, Yeah, I mean I liked the match,
25:49
but I didn't love the match. But you know, once again,
25:52
though, I'm I'm still not happy that they've kind of turned Swerve face.
25:57
You know, the crowds behind him. I kind of like the chakaner in
26:02
the antics. It's kind of hard to go from from doing a home invasion
26:04
and threatening a guy's family to kind of going straight babyface. And I know
26:07
he's done really well in the promos to kind of play it off and explain
26:11
his rationale. But I certain guys I like better as heels than I do
26:17
his baby faces. Swerves one of them, but overall it's still kept Swerve
26:22
good. I like how the announcers sold it that, you know, like,
26:25
like you mentioned Page tapping out to avoids were becoming champ, but at
26:29
the same time that kind of protects Adam Page from taking the loss, like
26:33
his desire to want up swerve is more than his desire to win the World
26:38
Championship. Like that's good storytelling in that sense and makes Adam Page still look
26:44
like a viable contender whenever you circle back to him. Yeah, and I
26:48
thought hangman, Adam Paige was going to come back as a heel because there's
26:51
been all these reports that it's gonna be taking time off. Based on the
26:53
promo the Young Bucks cut on Wednesday's Dynamite, it would appear he's coming back
26:56
as a baby face again. Yeah, you don't get fired and come back.
27:03
Typically you don't get fired and come back as a heel. Well he's
27:04
suspended, yeah, yeah, but I mean he was excommunicated from Yeah.
27:11
Yeah, so that's still basically being fired by your bosses, from your from
27:15
your group. So yeah, Typically when those things happen, the guy,
27:18
you know, it's either you come back as the indentured servant a la Sean
27:22
Michaels the JBL or something like that, or you come back just pissed off
27:26
at your bosses. And people love those guys. So it might be a
27:30
way of refreshing the Page character as well. But the storyline between him and
27:36
Swerve is still not resolved, and if Swerve's a baby face, it's kind
27:38
of hard to do to have competing babyfaces at the same time, you know,
27:42
fighting each other, because at some point the crowd's going to turn on
27:45
one of them. So it's gonna be interesting how they put all that together,
27:48
if that's their their course of action, or does Page go off and
27:52
do something else, And then we can always circle back to him and Swerve
27:56
down the line and bring up their history. They put a big rocket ship
28:02
on Swerve at on Wednesday's Dynamite when he, like single hand lead defeated the
28:06
Roah Tag team champions Matt David and Mike Bennett along with samo Joe. He
28:11
also had one of the best move sequences I've ever seen, where it just
28:15
like floats so well and he just kept moving. I mean, Swerve's ascension
28:21
this the past two years has been like a thing of beauty. It's amazing
28:25
to watch him grow. He was a great character in an NXT towards the
28:29
end there with hit Row. It obviously did not take place on the main
28:33
roster side with SmackDown because he wasn't given a long enough leash to be successful.
28:37
Very very happy for him. He's always been touted as somebody on the
28:41
independence prior to signing with w WEE is like a talent to watch and it's
28:45
fun seeing it really pay off right now, and it's the momentum is shifting
28:49
towards him probably become an AW World champion sooner rather than later, which is
28:53
pretty exciting. Next match here is Stinging Darby Allen defeating the Young Bucks and
28:59
a to NATO tag team match or retain the AW World Tag Team Championship.
29:03
Doctor Trey and I had Singing Darby Allen one last time covering a Sting match.
29:10
I just simply put as my notes, this was Sting's love letter to
29:12
professional wrestling, and this was wrestling fans' way of thanking sing for all the
29:15
memories. It was a beautiful send off for an amazing career, and thank
29:19
you, Sting. I can't say anything more else more about this, Doctor
29:23
Trey. No. I thought the introduction of having both the Sting's sons come
29:29
out as you know, different versions of Sting, and then even that,
29:33
like you know, just everything in this match was good for me because you
29:37
know, when you have an older gentleman in a match you kind of it's
29:41
all all the mcfoley Rick Flair stuff, Like, Hey, if you can
29:44
add in some props and some stunts and some things that take away from him
29:47
not being maybe the best ring technician in the world anymore, Hey, it's
29:52
great. And also like this is one of those few matches where Sting had
29:55
to be involved basically the entire time, which is rare for him running aw
30:00
like, he had to be involved in the match all the way through,
30:03
where in the past we've seen Derby do most of the work ste he comes
30:06
at the end, or we do the cinematic matches or something like that.
30:11
This was Sting going all out for all the people that were in that coliseum
30:15
watching live, you know, for all the fans he's ever had. This
30:19
was his you know, swan song. And for a retirement match, this
30:23
is right up there as one of the best final matches for somebody that I
30:27
can ever recall. Yeah, I think maybe Undertaker A J. Styles I
30:33
would put one that was, but we didn't know that at the time,
30:36
and even that was cinematic. Would you have would you have yeah, would
30:41
you have put Rick Flair Shawn Michaels in there if rick Flair didn't come back
30:44
like two three times. Yeah, I mean, because that was a loss,
30:48
but it was still like amazing it was, but that was this wasn't
30:52
I mean to a degree the Bucks in Darby carried this match, but Sting
30:56
still got there though. Man, yeah, I just disagreed there. I
31:00
think Sting was in there. Man. Well, I'm not saying he wasn't
31:03
like Sean carried the Rick Flair match. Oh well, yeah, It's definitely
31:07
a different situation for sure. And then Undertaker and AJ was the cinematic match.
31:11
You know, this one, Sting was a Sting was in it the
31:14
entire time. But for the most part, it was Darby the Bucks and
31:18
taking them Like I mean, I know Sting took a couple of big bumps,
31:21
but he took a glass bump. Man, I disagree with that saying
31:23
that they like took all the bumps with sugar Glass. I didn't say all
31:27
of them. I said they took most of the big bumps, you know.
31:30
So you think that was sugar Glass And the one that Darby did was
31:36
was not. I No, I think the one Derby did was legit class
31:38
Yeah, yeah, No, I mean, no doubt I thought it was
31:41
both actually the same pieces of glass. It might have been. I don't
31:45
know. It's just like to me, like, all I'm saying is,
31:47
really, when you stacked those other matches up there, this was a great
31:51
This is arguably the greatest per formula because Sting was in the match and doing
31:55
his part for the entirety of match, where Undertake and AJ was a great
32:00
match, but you could say, well, they also had time to cut
32:04
stuff out because it was cinematic flair and Sean that was Sean carrying Rick through
32:08
that match. Sting did his part in this match, especially for a guy
32:13
at his age. So for me, it's it's not it's Taker and Staying
32:16
in their final matches is one A and one B because of their performances pay
32:22
per view prediction record, I went eight and one. Doctor Trey win seven
32:24
and two. I'm nineteen and four in the year Doctor Trey is seventeen and
32:28
six. Match of the night and event rating. I gave aw Revolution a
32:35
four point two out of five and the very short window of pay per views
32:38
that we've watched so far this year. In the year twenty twenty four,
32:42
this has been my favorite, and my match of the night was will Osprinkinoski
32:45
Takeshka, So I was in a four point zero. I think I had
32:51
a couple of matches railed, but lower than you. My match that I
32:52
was singing in Darb against the Bucks. I think just for the nostalgia,
32:57
the emotions, this is kind of like you know, in a sense,
33:00
I mean stone cold and Kevin Owens asked in a sense of like it's it's
33:02
all over the place, it's chaotic, but dere got it. That's a
33:07
great comparison. But it got me all back, It got me all back
33:08
up in my fields and everything else. So and then still Darby playing off
33:14
of the staking stuff a little bit on Wednesday night with the baseball bat to
33:17
Jay White's throat, Like that's still like stuff like that. That's always like
33:22
you be involved. So like it was just like it was just great.
33:25
It was a fun match, but they had also the nostalgia and the emotions
33:29
coming to as well. Yeah, I love the comparison there to Steve Austin
33:31
Kevin Owens from Wrestlman thirty eight. I think that spot on. And yeah,
33:37
these guys, I mean, I still can't get over staying at the
33:38
age of sixty four was doing that stuff. You know what's funny, Doctor
33:44
Trey, is when back in the nineties when we were growing up, remember,
33:51
there was that period of time where WWE was taking shots at WW and
33:54
called it like the old Folks Home, and they were they had the Huckster
33:58
and the Nacho Man, yeah, and billionaire ted vignettes and they were like
34:01
talking about how old they were and like at the time, like they were
34:07
like forty five years old, yeah, and uh yeah, I mean they
34:10
made it seem like they were sixty four. So it's ironic you mentioned that
34:15
because I was talking to Barry call Off, the owner Rocket City, yesterday,
34:19
and we were somehow we got on the topic of WCW Dungeon of Doom,
34:24
you know, which was right around that time where they were bringing in
34:28
John Tentton and calling him the Shark or the Shark, and then you had
34:31
I just watched The Dark Side of the Ring on him John, Yeah.
34:35
And then you got Brutus Beefcake as the Zodiac, but he was also the
34:38
Butcher at one point or that time when you had all the old the man
34:42
with no name, yeah, and then you had but you had all the
34:45
old woman villains you know, coming through that time, and I was always
34:49
like, yeah, it's just it's it's it's sad. You see all these
34:52
old guys coming back in for one paycheck. But that was me at twenty
34:55
two years old, twenty four years old, and now at forty six,
34:59
I see these guys out I see the Billy Guns and the Jericho's and staying.
35:04
You know, these guys up there, yeah, you know, and
35:06
I'm like, I got to give those guys props. I mean, like
35:08
it. It's also a different rule. Like those guys needed the money back
35:12
then, those those old hulk Ogan villains coming through. These guys that we
35:15
see still out there, they've done pretty well for themselves. They don't need
35:19
the money. They do it because they love it, and my god,
35:21
they're still damn good at it too, and they look like they have not
35:23
missed a step. Sting does not look like he's sixty four. Billy Gunn
35:28
and Jeff Jarrett don't look like they're in their fifties either. I mean,
35:31
I mean, Edge is right around the fifty age as well, and Christian
35:37
Cage isn't far behind them, and they're in their late forties early fifties,
35:39
if I'm not mistaken on those two guys. And you know, Christian Cage
35:44
still looks like Christian Cage when he first cut the mullet off back in like
35:47
oh two. Like, I mean, it's crazy Jericho. Jericho's in his
35:51
late fifties now to Yeah, these I think it's the Canadian guys don't age
35:55
and Tennessee guys don't age. I think it has a lot to do with
35:59
these guys take and a lot better care for them of themselves obviously as well.
36:02
I mean Billy Gunn looks like he could walk into the three anybody and
36:08
just who the crap out of him? And he's fifty six years old.
36:12
He looks like nineteen ninety eight Billy gun Yeah. But the way, I
36:15
actually just came across a little video of homage to Billy Gunn as mister Ass
36:20
and I was like, it's amazing that character didn't get over because he was
36:22
basically just doing Sean Michaels. They tried, remember he was in a feud
36:25
with the Rock for a little bit one King of the Ring, and it
36:29
never panned out. Yeah, I just I don't think they once that few
36:32
like once Rock kind of was the poison. The poison Ivy on the Ass
36:37
was in that feud. Yes, I forgot about that. That was like
36:40
a massuse, right, Yeah, and I think that kind of killed the
36:45
mister Ass gimmick. Yeah, and I think he got injured as well shortly
36:47
after that, and then he came back as like the one Billy Gun And
36:51
yeah, that's all another story for another day. Nonetheless, AW Revolution in
36:54
the books one of the better shows in my opinion of twenty twenty four thus
36:59
far. I just don't like that AW does like that old WSW trick or
37:02
Tony Shavanni trick where it's like, this is the biggest night in wrestling in
37:06
history. It's like, I think it's Shavanni. I think when Shirvanni says
37:09
it, it's a spoof on himself because he gets so black for the nitro
37:14
dew. Dude. There was so many people saying it. I mean,
37:16
Renee Piquette and RJ City were saying it throughout the whole entire pre show.
37:21
I don't think that was a rib. I think that was legit. I
37:23
mean, I'm like, this is your biggest pay per view of all time,
37:25
not double or nothing. In twenty nineteen, not all in twenty twenty
37:30
three in Wembley. Is your biggest pay per view in Kenny of all time
37:35
in Kenny? Omega's not on it. Yeah, yeah, I mean I
37:37
would just say it's like, it's a great night for profession professional wrestling.
37:42
Definitely one of their better shows. I have felt like in sometime docor Trey.
37:45
I thought Wressell Dream Full Gear was really good. I did not like
37:49
World's End, but I feel like at least three out of the last four
37:52
pay per views have been very solid for AW. Yeah, I mean not
37:55
the mention is it the biggest night when you guys did the Wimbley show.
37:59
That's yeah, That's what I'm saying before I mean, this is but this
38:01
is the type of shows I like about AAW. So, you know,
38:05
I was thinking about this where there are times where I can do without almost
38:09
dynamite collision. Certainly Rampage. Everybody knows my my my budding feud with Rampage
38:15
lately. But every single match on this card made with the exception of the
38:21
Scramble match, which kind of made sense because ward Low's chasing the world title
38:24
and the result it had a creative storyline. I mean, there's a lot
38:30
of this with like weird filler sometimes on collision and rampage. Especially Dynamite always
38:35
seems to be action packed. This past Wednesday's edition of Dynamite was really well
38:38
done. So it feels like creatively, aw's had a nice, good momentum
38:45
right now, and I hope it really carries itself to their next pay per
38:47
view in April titled Dynasty, which is the next one. So props AW
38:52
lately, as I mean, they've been putting together a hell of a roster.
38:57
They've got well ospray. We believe that they have Mercedes mone coming this
39:00
upcoming Wednesday, and officially added this past Wednesday night, Doctor Trey, and
39:07
we've talked about it here, Kazuska Okada is all elite and then shockingly joins
39:13
the elite Doctor Trey. I mean, AW, in five years has basically
39:20
taken every top independent new Japan pro wrestling star. I mean, you've got
39:24
Osprey, You've got Okada, You've got Jay White, these were guys that
39:30
were basically running the show. You've got Codo Bushie, who I know is
39:32
injured right now. You've got Kenny, You've got the Bucks you've got Hangman.
39:37
I mean they have drained New Japan Pro Wrestling. We are not shocked
39:42
by the signing of Okadago and all elite. It was expected. We want
39:46
We both talked about we wanted to see him go to WWE because it was
39:50
different. What I will say about this debut, which was nice to see,
39:53
is that him turning heel and siding with the elite of the young Bucks
39:59
was nice and different, and I thought it was a really good introduction to
40:01
him on the AW side as a full time roster. Remember, I wish
40:05
it was a little bit bigger because I think worldwide, and all due respect,
40:09
I think will Ospray eventually becomes a bigger star in the next two to
40:13
three years in the United States and beyond, but worldwide, Kausiscocata is the
40:17
biggest signing out of Osprey Monet whoever that they'll make in twenty twenty four.
40:23
This is like John Cena for Japan signing with AAW Yeah, and I'll get
40:30
so it's a huge signing for them. It's a huge get. He's still
40:32
one of the best professional rest of the world. He's gonna draw a lot
40:36
of eyes internationally to AW. So that's gonna be good for the products as
40:39
well. I think him aligning with the Bucks is a brilliant move because one
40:45
of the issues he's going to have for a little bit is his trends as
40:50
he learns the English language is going to be his promo skills in English.
40:53
So aligning himself with the Bucks allows him time to build that up kind of.
41:00
Let Nicholas and Matthew see what I did there, do the talking for
41:05
him as they build him up more and more, and then he do on
41:07
the eventual turn. Then he's a big breakout babyface. And then you know,
41:12
when he cuts his first promo, the fans eat that stuff up.
41:15
So I think it makes a ton of sense. I'm with you. I
41:19
still think Osprey in four in three years is a bigger US star than maybe
41:27
Okada is. But I think from the jump as far as bringing eyes to
41:30
the table, Ocatta is the biggest get they've got in quite some time.
41:36
Yeah, I mean this is this is a massive get for them. Okada
41:39
and I just read before we record it a fight full select is reporting is
41:44
a three year deal worth four million dollars per year, and Okada will be
41:47
moving to the United States permanently, so there's a feud in place from when
41:52
Kenny hopefully returns soon from dive ticulitis. They moved forward with that storyline knowing
41:58
that Kenny is is not due back anytime soon unless it's something kept very very
42:04
quiet, which Tony Kahan spoke about on the media scrum that they don't expect
42:08
Kenny back anytime soon. And I think they're being very truthful in that their
42:13
talent roster and all Lead wrestling continues to grow, it continues to be some
42:19
of the best, if not the best, in all professional wrestling. But
42:22
with all due respect, they're still chasing we right now who is as an
42:27
all encompassing sports entertainment, professional wrestling industry business show. Each and every week
42:35
they're knocking it out of the park heading into WrestleMania season. It's really nice
42:38
to see. I mean, this is starting to feel like nineteen ninety seven,
42:43
ninety eight, ninety nine professional wrestling to me, Doctor Trey. Yeah.
42:46
And the one thing, and this is sometimes when you have a huge
42:51
talent raw a huge roster of talent, you're trying to be fair to everybody
42:57
in the booking, which is when you start getting a lot of fifty to
42:59
fifty booking and you know, or guys get the start stop pushes. Is
43:04
you need somebody to break out and just grab the audience by the throat and
43:08
hold on to them. And and that's where I'm thinking that, Like,
43:13
that's probably one of the thing they talked about, was like, who's that
43:15
guy that we can kind of, you know, build the show around that
43:19
people have to tune in to see. And that's really what helped WWE catch
43:23
WCW during that time was w CB cop FI with the nWo and then WW
43:30
got lucky. I don't say lucky, but it was I mean, it's
43:31
talent, but DX and Stone Cold took off and then that's when you got
43:36
the back and forth, back and the forth, and then one just stayed
43:38
hotter than the other. And I think that's what they're looking for now.
43:43
Like ww's their shows are so solid every single week. It's kind of hard
43:47
to chase down somebody when they're not making mistakes and they're not knee jerk and
43:52
reacting to what you're doing. But as long as you keep building and building
43:58
and you're solid and you're solid, and you start to equal out over time,
44:00
but you just need that one guy to catch fire that everybody has to
44:05
tune in and see where that the UH to use an old school reference that
44:09
nobody uses anymore. You need that water cooler talk. You need that Oh
44:13
my god, do you a'ta see what Swerve did on on Dynamite? Did
44:15
y'all see that? Like? You need some kind of fun, crazy things
44:20
that you know, grabs attention and gets people that word of mouth to start
44:24
tuning into. So, you know, right now, like wrestling in a
44:29
lot of ways feels like politics, where you're either one side or you're the
44:31
other. In reality, like the best part of that rivalry of w cw
44:37
WCWWWF back in the day was the flipping back and forth to see the counter
44:43
programming going on. UH. And that's because they had two acts that were
44:46
just on fire, and you had to see what the nWo is going to
44:50
do. You had to see what Diamond Dawis Page was gonna do when he
44:52
was, you know, getting diamond cutters everybody. But you also had to
44:54
see what DX was gonna do, and you had to see what Austin was
44:57
gonna do. So right now you have a little bit of that in WW
45:01
with the Cody Seth, bloodline stuff, and AW. Like I said earlier,
45:06
maybe the best character on their roster right now is Tony Storm and the
45:09
hottest person they have is Swerve Strickling. Those two people aren't mainstream names right
45:15
now, so you just got to figure out how to get those names out
45:17
there for people to grab onto and make sure they're turning into Dynamite and Collision
45:22
every week. Yeah, if and he keeps going right now, I mean
45:23
will Ospray, I mean just I think it's we're very lucky to be able
45:29
to watch him each week on the United States television here, of of all
45:34
elite wrestling, I think we're very very lucky to watch him because he is
45:37
a phenomenal talent. Yeah, hold on, just want to say the least
45:40
thing. The only issue with that is phenomenal talent all those guys, but
45:45
you know, Swerve Osprey phenomenal wrestlers. Nobody can knock AW for their entering
45:50
action. The only knock we have on them is character develpment, because sometimes
45:54
it's the characters that grab your attention and make me tune in. And I
45:59
don't know if we have great characters in AW yet. I think Swerve is
46:04
a great character. I do. I think there's been a very natural growth
46:07
and development to his character. But I do agree with you. If there's
46:10
one thing that AW really needs to focus on, it's it's building that character
46:15
development. They're actually doing really good job with that with Eddie Kingston right now
46:19
as well. There's several others obviously, but those are ones that definitely come
46:22
to mind. But you need something to grab the mainstream audience attention to if
46:29
you want, excuse me, if you really want to start catching up to
46:31
WWE, you need somebody to catch fire that makes everybody not just yours.
46:37
You need something to grab everybody's attention to turn it in. I'm with you,
46:43
I think and I thought about this during Revolution, and you and I
46:46
will be fans of AW because we're wrestling fans. I think the mainstream is
46:52
probably going to be difficult to do that because and fans may not like to
46:55
hear this, but I think AW is a very niche product. They are.
47:00
Their base is hardcore wrestling fans that know who will lost Bray because it's
47:06
gokata is. They're not looking for the casuals that pop on because Dwayne the
47:12
Rock Johnson the movie stars in there and he's in the ring with Roman Rains,
47:15
who's you know, kind of become a house It's basically a household name
47:20
at this point. Roman Reigns for professional wrestling like AW doesn't have that,
47:24
And I think in the eyes of people outside of the wrestling fandom bubble,
47:30
this would be similar to like the NFL is the W and the UFL no
47:36
disrespect, disrespect their Rock is AW. It's I think mainstream people would be
47:42
like, what is this knockoff w show? Y WW was so successful when
47:47
they were going to Totoe with W and the Mondy Night Wars is because they
47:50
had Hogan and I just don't think AW will ever do that direction, Doctor
47:53
Trey. I just can't see them creatively booking shows like W will with the
48:00
growth that you're seeing right now from like Rock and Roman Reigns with Bloodline and
48:06
the stuff with Cody Rhoades and seth Rolls, which we'll get to here momentarily.
48:08
But maybe aw's trying with the recent people that they've added, like Jennifer
48:14
pepperd and Pepperman I think is your last name who just came up from W.
48:17
Won'll be helping with the women's division, so maybe they're gonna go to
48:21
the direction. I just think at the end of the day, I think
48:22
AW is probably more of a niche product. Yeah, but I mean,
48:28
you think about when WCO caught fire. It took Holland Nash showing up on
48:31
Nitro, It took the Luger's surprise appearance. It took things like that to
48:37
really get people talking like, oh my god. Like it took crazy things
48:40
that were outside the norm of professional wrestling to get people to tune in.
48:45
And then you know the nWo stuff just in general, the Hogan turning heel,
48:50
Like you have to have kind of shocking moments to get people talking.
48:54
Did the same thing with the DX stuff and then the Tyson stuff, and
48:58
then you know, Austin McMahon. These were things that weren't the norm in
49:01
wrestling, and I think it always it's kind of like the same thing with
49:05
movie business, where it's like, oh, all the original ideas are taken,
49:08
and then if you do anything that even resembles something from WWE in nineteen
49:14
ninety two, oh they did that way, they did that in ww already,
49:16
Yeah, thirty years ago, forty years ago. You know, instead
49:20
of let it go. But you got to kind of shock the system a
49:24
little bit to get people talking about you and selling, not selling casual wrestling
49:30
fans on how great the n ring action doesn't always work because if I want
49:36
to and I don't think it will work because if I want to see what,
49:37
if I want to see great fight, I can just watch UFC.
49:40
I mean how Netflix Housemars Netflix, and we just think got us today,
49:45
Jake Pauling and is Mike Tyson. If you're launching a live sports division,
49:49
that's gonna get eyeballs or your TV because it's outside the norm. We need
49:53
something outside the norm and aw to get casual fans who start tuning in to
49:58
TNT to watch the showing one thing. Yeah, and I don't think that
50:01
happens anytime soon. Yeah. I don't think they'll they'll be that mainstream product
50:07
product that WE is. And it's not because they're not doing anything good.
50:10
I just don't think that there'll ever be the w WE formula. I think
50:15
they want to be different and that's fine, but casual mainstream fans don't give
50:21
a shit about a forty five minute match between like Will Ospring Kenoski takesha like
50:24
we do. Yeah. Yeah, here's the thing. Think about this match.
50:28
You love the Osprey Takeshka match, right, like, in six months,
50:34
will you remember all thirty twenty eight minutes thirty minutes of that match?
50:37
No, you remember the finish, You'll marry a couple of spots, and
50:39
you remember the end, and you remember the emotion. And that's one thing
50:43
I teach you wrestlers, like is not the in ring product, is the
50:45
emotion you put out there that gives people to come back. I think that
50:50
was a highly emotional match, man. Yeah, I gotta disagree there.
50:53
I know you're using that as like an example, but I think I will
50:57
remember will Osbury Kenoski Takeashka and Stinging Darby Allen. I think sticking Darby Allen
51:02
Young Bucks is a very we esque match which you compared very beautifully there to
51:07
like Steve Austin and Kevin Owens. I think those will be memorable matches on
51:12
that card. I don't. I don't mean it like no, here's here's
51:14
my comparison. So Shawn Michaels Brett Hart wrestle Meane Iron, My match is
51:17
my favorite match of all time. I love that match. I could not
51:22
tell you every single move in that match. Oh, of course I can.
51:27
That's and that's my point. The n ring action can be great and
51:30
it's the emotion that you're selling, but you don't always need you can have
51:36
like Kevin Owens Stone Call was like fifteen to twenty minutes. I can't remember
51:39
all the fight sequents that match, but I remember the emotion off that as
51:42
well. And that's if I want to see great action, like great physical
51:45
fighting action, I can tune into the UFC. Yeah, but that but
51:49
that's a aw is going to garner emotion from great ng ring abilities like that's
51:55
that's their product though, But you have to take that emotion and put it
51:59
in other areas as well, because otherwise you're just a great wrestling product.
52:04
Are you a great entertainment product? I think I think they're doing a better
52:07
job with that though. I Dynamite was a really good show this past week,
52:12
stemming off with a pay per view. I mean, there's a lot
52:14
of good emotion there with Swerve and Samoa Joe in that opening segment leading to
52:19
the tag team match, Like I thought, I thought, and I thought
52:22
the match with Kyle Fletcher and Will Osprey was really well done, I think
52:25
if but I know their history, I think if I was AW, I
52:29
would have gone on with like a video package the history between those two guys,
52:32
because not everybody knows that they were in United Empire together. Yeah,
52:37
and that's and that's the thing there. There are times when I watch AW,
52:40
that's the Storytelly has been much improved the last few months, which I'm
52:45
really happy about. It's not a lot of short sty is though they at
52:49
times kind of bank on you knowing being a hardcore fan. Agreed, and
52:54
I don't know if they ever want to change. There's almost I don't like
53:00
it's like when you have when those people who own a Honda Prius, but
53:04
they just anybody doesn't have a Prius or doesn't have a smart car, it
53:07
doesn't have a hybrid there, but they're just dumb. It's almost like that
53:10
this is this is getting political now This is I mean, this is like
53:15
a lot of things in general nowadays. I mean, this is the social
53:16
media. I mean, this is like the number one reason why wrestling fans
53:22
bash, like the AW hardcorese Like there's those AW Neckbeard's Twitter accounts out there,
53:25
and they're pretty funny because it's like like I think O'Hay Jackson, which
53:31
is ice cube Son, Who's I guess he's like the prominent voice now professional
53:35
wrestling fandom for some reason, like he and he hit it on the head.
53:38
It's like, oh wow, who is this guy? Like this British
53:43
guy is really good and the AW fans like this is Will Ospray. You
53:45
don't know who this is? No, I don't, but I really like
53:49
it. And their response is well, you're an idiot, like and you're
53:52
not a wrestling fan. And it's like wait what, Yeah, it's they
53:55
have almost like an elitist attitude about their right professional It's in the name.
54:00
Yeah. So it's like it's a niche product. I think it's a niche
54:05
product. And I hate to say that because I enjoy it, but it's
54:07
niche. It's owning the hybrid car, owning the smart car in comparison everybody
54:12
else. Yeah. I again, I will say creatively, I think AW
54:16
is building upwards towards of the mainstream aspects than what we've seen in like the
54:22
last two years. I think they're doing a match much better job. But
54:27
there are times where you've got to introduce the CML El Sars that I don't
54:30
know. I mean I don't know every single one. Like Hennasario was like
54:34
the first time I ever saw him, and he was phenomenal in the ring,
54:37
really enjoyed it. What was his name? Is it Henner Sario?
54:42
Oh? I thought you said Hennessy. Does you know the guy who's like
54:46
the magician? I thought he was really good. June Akayama out of d
54:51
DT. I mean I haven't seen June Okayama matches many of them or wait
54:57
a minute, no progressing? Noah, I think he is. I don't
55:00
know. I had her name June Akiyama since w CW n W O Revenge.
55:05
Is he in that game? Well? No? There? Who was
55:08
the there was a guy uh from is here a New Japan and that he
55:13
had to run in w CW. He's in that game. There's a few
55:15
Japanese wrestlers. Yeah, it's Who's Blue Justice over in New Japan. He
55:22
just was on there taking on Brian Danielson. Oh God, Eugene Nagata,
55:30
Yes, Eugeniagatta. That's who I was like, that's that's like when last
55:34
time I heard June Akayama was in the New Eugen Nagata days. Yeah,
55:37
and that was like everybody was with Son and that's when w W w W
55:39
was was feuding with New Japan. There was an entire star k that was
55:45
based around WW versus New Japan, and that was in the days when they
55:47
were they were a niche Southern product. Did Eric Bischoff do Forbidden Door before
55:54
Forbidden Door? Oh? Yeah, do you remember that one? Stark?
55:57
Yeah, now that I think about it, like i'd only that out of
56:00
my memory for a while, I think it was like Stark ninety five.
56:04
Yeah, like that's yeah, that's in my wrestling history. It was the
56:07
World Cup of Wrestling. Yeah, it was WW taking on New Japan.
56:10
Oh my goodness, their memories they're making it flow back anyway. But yeah,
56:15
like I to me, it's it's you know, look, you're right,
56:17
it's a niche product that is trying to slowly make its way out.
56:22
It's a little bit it's a little bit of E. C. Wish as
56:23
well, in the sense of like when people were ECW fans and they're like,
56:28
oh, you don't know who Nujack is, then you're stupid. It's
56:30
like you're on like fifteen televisions channels. How would I know this like it's
56:36
it's a little bit of that attitude as well, but just they just have
56:38
better financing than Paul Hayman did back in the day. Let's switch gears speaking
56:44
of Paul Hamon to WWE here real quick, Paul Hamon and Bowl Nakana where
56:49
announced as the first inductees for the w Hall of Fame class of twenty twenty
56:52
four. I mean, we could do an entire podcast here on Paul Hayman
56:55
and his impact to professional wrestling. Bull Nakano, I got to be honest,
57:00
I did not see many of her matches. I remember her feud in
57:02
ninety four with a lunch of Blaze in ninety five becoming the w F at
57:07
the time women's champion. But I mean two great first inductees here, certainly
57:14
Paul Hayman in the home area of extreme in Philadelphia and bol Nakana, one
57:19
of the most influential women's wrestlers in history. Yeah, Bo Nakano inspired so
57:23
many women's the best phoenixes of the world. Awesome Kong. We'll tell you
57:29
that she's a huge bowld nccano fan. I was amazing. That's how A
57:31
picture of Boll Nacanna recently she looks nothing like the boldon nccano I remember from
57:35
that lunder Blaze view, but like she looks phenomenal. Agreed, I saw
57:37
it too recently. I was like, damn, but yeah, like just
57:42
two Like it's it's that big knockout star you need, which is the Paul
57:46
Hayman going to Philadelphia to go in the Hall of Fame. And then you
57:50
get the bowmacana, which gives you that like hardcore wrestling fan credibility for the
57:53
Hall of Fame as well. It's gonna be interesting else, they added to
57:58
Max, it's gonna be interesting who they have induct Paul Hayman. Like I'm
58:01
waiting to see that is I saw something I can't reverer who was? But
58:05
on Twitter they're like, just give Paul Hayman the microphone, Like keep all
58:08
the other inductions be short, and then just give Paul Hayman the mike for
58:12
forty five minutes and people will go home happy. So I would have best
58:15
guest Brock Lesner before all this stuff went down. Yeah, but even then,
58:21
I as much as I love Brock, I don't know if Brock would
58:23
give a great induction speech. Brock's not known for being the best. He's
58:28
good, but I'd thought to Dreamer do it. I wouldn't be surprised if
58:31
it's Steve Austin or CM Punk. That's a good one too. I mean
58:37
there's plenty of great people, I mean dangerous alliance. Anybody in E CW.
58:43
Tommy Dreamer would be fantastic. Cmpunk would be phenomenal as well. So
58:47
I know they only do it for like some of the headliners now inductees,
58:52
because remember Conyan did it for Ray. But yeah, we'll have to see
58:54
what goes on here. So bul Nakana Paul Hayman first inductees into the WA
58:59
Hall Film Class to twenty twenty four, and then quick here to wrap up
59:02
our resume and he forty card round up. No match is confirmed this week,
59:06
but rumored expected Doctor Trey Roman Reigns and the Rock versus Cody Roads and
59:09
Seth Freaking Rollins has gained some traction momentum. I fully expect this podcast drops
59:15
on Friday morning, that this match will become official on Friday Night's edition of
59:19
SmackDown. Yeah, and I'm wondering why they're saving it for SmackDown, Like
59:22
why didn't Cody and Seth just accept on Raw Monday Night. But yeah,
59:27
yeah, anyway, like why do we gotta wait a whole week when those
59:30
two guys technically technically still are Raw superstars, But yeah, I fully expect
59:35
that to happen. I also like the you know, if we win,
59:37
then bloodline rules. I'm like, do we know what bloodline rules are?
59:42
Because we're gonna make that up as it goes. But uh well he did
59:45
explain it. I mean he said, like anything goes At this point,
59:46
I say, anything goes. But I love that that is bloodline rules,
59:50
not just hey, not just the traditional not Q anything goes match that we've
59:52
been doing four one hundred years. And then you know, I think you
59:57
want to add a little bit of spice of that though, right yeah yeah,
1:00:00
and then if Cody and Saith when the Bloodline won't get involved at all?
1:00:02
Though, but yeah, like I love This's gonna be fun and I
1:00:07
love that the Rocks still like hyping it was the biggest tag team Magine history,
1:00:10
and I'm like, I mean, I remember the Bag of Powers in
1:00:15
Andre and DEBIOSSI. That was pretty big. I remember that one. So
1:00:17
it's up there and what did you think about Rock acknowledging Roman reigns as his
1:00:22
tribal chief. There seems to be like some growing concerns that Roman doesn't maybe
1:00:28
believe him. Rock threw up the l again and then went back to the
1:00:32
one, and Paul Hayman has a thing where he's staring at the Rock and
1:00:36
has like a smug look on his face that's been captured on Twitter. What
1:00:40
do you think about all that stuff that took place there, because it's definitely
1:00:43
starting to set up the Rock and Roman storyline. Yeah, and I think
1:00:47
this is where you see that crack of the foundation where if Roman loses,
1:00:51
he blames the Rock for doing it, and then you know, then you
1:00:53
get the solo and Jimmy and Roman beat down the Rock for the Rock to
1:00:58
come back as the baby face, you know around summerslame time or if they
1:01:02
stretched all way out to wrestle Media forty one. So I think this is,
1:01:06
you know, perfect storytelling because you can't have those two. It was
1:01:09
kind of It's similar when you know what the plan for Austin and Triple H
1:01:13
as a two man ego trip was for them to run rough shot of everybody
1:01:17
until they based their egos, you know, overshoot each other. This is
1:01:21
just traditional story. So I love that. Basically like Roman made Rock acknowledge
1:01:25
him, almost like prove his loyalty in a sense. But then you know,
1:01:30
you can't really trust the Rock. It's the Rock. I mean,
1:01:32
he's turned on everybody. He's not he's not big show level, but he
1:01:37
would baby face it. Heel quite a bit during his run, so but
1:01:42
just yeah, I mean he is at the end of the day, the
1:01:44
Rock is technically a high chief in the ny family and Rome was just a
1:01:49
tribal chief. So very true. And then they didn't move make some movement
1:01:54
here in the Intercomal Champion Doctor Trailer will be a gauntlet match on Monday's Raw.
1:02:00
Sammy's Ay and Ricochet, Chad Gable, Bronson, Reid chins Key,
1:02:01
Knockimore or j D McDonald all be battling for the right to take on Gunther
1:02:07
at WrestleMania forty. I don't know how this shakes out. I think there's
1:02:12
two leading candidates here, Doctor Trey, Sammy Zin or Chad Gable that this
1:02:16
is going to be interesting. I think this is a mut obviously a must
1:02:21
watch match on Monday because it's not so cut and dry that like, yeah,
1:02:24
I think it's gonna be Sammy z Ayin. Yeah, I think it's
1:02:27
gonna be Chad Gable. I think those two are the lead horses in there.
1:02:30
But yeah, this is I think this is a fun way of doing
1:02:34
this for the Intercal Championship at WrestleMania. Not to mention you had a really
1:02:37
solid mess means Sammy and Ivar on raw as well, So yes, Ivar
1:02:40
is awesome. It's it's it's gonna be really interesting to see where they go
1:02:45
with this because honestly, here's what's Gre's the crazy thing. I was kind
1:02:49
of hoping for Goother and Dominic because I just want to see Goother's like chopped
1:02:53
Dominic for fifteen minutes, and you know that whole Judgment Day Imperium face off
1:03:00
is like, all right, well where we go with this? So it's
1:03:04
it's interesting because with that little bit of a face off, does JD McDonagh
1:03:08
jump up into the top three of picks, So that way you get a
1:03:12
little bit of Judgment Day and Imperium and WrestleMania. So it's interesting. I
1:03:15
think you and I mentioned it was for us. I think it was both
1:03:19
like either Sammy or Chad Gable. It'll be interesting to see which which horse
1:03:24
they run with here, because I think Sammy is maybe are the more popular
1:03:30
of the two, But I think Gable gives you the best story because that
1:03:32
goes back to what they were doing over the you know, over the fall
1:03:36
month with that whole Gable Gother stuff and Gable's daughter and everything else. So
1:03:40
it's gonna be interesting which which way they pick coming out of Monday Night Wrong.
1:03:45
There you go. So that's the latest WrestleMania forty card round up,
1:03:49
Doctor Trey. We'll obviously have some clarity. I expect at least two matches
1:03:52
to be confirmed by we by the time we meet again here. Obviously the
1:03:57
two matches we just discussed, and who knows how much which more we will
1:04:00
see heading into Wrestling forty. With that said, let's close up shop on
1:04:05
this week's edition of SRTU. We'll get a couple plugs and spots out of
1:04:09
the way. You could download the show every Thursday or Friday at Real Guy
1:04:12
Radio dot Com, wrestle chatnet on x and the still Realtest show iTunes feed.
1:04:16
Don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe. To help us com
1:04:19
the charts on iTunes. You can follow us individually on X for myself at
1:04:23
SRTU Jeff and for doctor Trey Franklin The Doctor Trey and of course don't forget
1:04:27
to follow show on X at SRTU podcast. With that being said, what's
1:04:30
going on in the one for world of dotch Tray Franklin this week? Well,
1:04:33
like Jeff said, you can follow me on X at the Doctor Trey.
1:04:36
You can find me on Facebook and Instagram Doctor Trey Franklin. When you're
1:04:41
on Facebook, checkout Rocket Sea Championship Wrestling, spart In Championship Wrestling, and
1:04:45
All Star Wrestling Association with three shows I work with an Alabama now apparently,
1:04:49
so be sure to check out those guys all great wrestling action. But most
1:04:53
importantly, go check out your local independent wrestling show where you two can find
1:04:57
a female wrestler that will end up dating if we'll remember JAS Society at some
1:05:00
point in aw there you go support all the great things that support s r
1:05:04
TU and so much more. It's it's amazing just ruby soho dates one person,
1:05:09
Doctor Trey and you you seem a little bit jealous. I gotta admit
1:05:13
it. A little. I'm a Ruby, soho looks because I saw her
1:05:15
in IWA Mid South when she was first breaking into the business, so that
1:05:18
my statement holds true that I saw this woman wrestling at Independence Show and now
1:05:24
she's dating a member of the JAS Society. I didn't know there was a
1:05:28
few between Doctor Trey and when it's not Daddy Magic, I always hit their
1:05:32
names mixed up. It was Angelo Parker, Yeah, cool Hand Ange,
1:05:39
cool Hand Ange and Daddy Magic. So the former two point zero Magic was
1:05:45
actually one of my first gamer tags. But I was built at m a
1:05:46
j uk. I missed those days. I missed those days. All right,
1:05:54
that'll do it for this week's edition of SRTU. Spread the word about
1:05:57
the story world of this show. Enjoy your weekend and enjoy your week of
1:06:00
professional wrestling and until next week. For dot Tray Franklin, I'm Jeff Pack.
1:06:04
This is the story of the show.
