- 0:33Speaker 2: I'm terrific and I'm happy to join you. Like everyone else,
- 0:37Speaker 2: I'm on Iran Watch, so you know, minute by minute
- 0:41Speaker 2: mark we're kind of trying to figure out what's going on. Uh,
- 0:44Speaker 2: and you know, investors are very optimistic that this alt
- 0:48Speaker 2: this war is going to come to a close.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Oil prices are going to come down. I hope that's right.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Well. Uh, when we started that blockade the strait up
- 0:57Speaker 1: her moose, it was brilliant because yeah, it basically affects
- 1:01Speaker 1: Europe and China and everywhere else. We got plenty of oil.
- 1:03Speaker 1: In fact, we might make money off it because now
- 1:06Speaker 1: people have to start buying from us. We're the biggest
- 1:08Speaker 1: oil supplier then and in the end, don't you think
- 1:12Speaker 1: this will all work out? In fact, they'll also they'll
- 1:14Speaker 1: start building these pipelines, so we won't depend on that
- 1:16Speaker 1: straight anymore. A year from now, we're going to be
- 1:19Speaker 1: very happy with the way it turned out, aren't we.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I think so. I mean, I think yes. I'm optimistic
- 1:25Speaker 2: that we'll have a decent peace agreement with Iran. I'm
- 1:31Speaker 2: really tired of going on social media and saying and
- 1:34Speaker 2: seeing people talking about how great the deal was that
- 1:38Speaker 2: Obama struck with Iran, because I actually remember that deal,
- 1:42Speaker 2: and the reason he never submitted it to Congress for
- 1:45Speaker 2: approval is that everyone understood that it was incredibly as
- 1:48Speaker 2: Neat and Yahu said, it was not something an agreement
- 1:53Speaker 2: that would prohibit the development of a nuclear weapon. It
- 1:56Speaker 2: was a pathway to a nuclear weapon for i Ran.
- 1:59Speaker 3: And it was true.
- 2:01Speaker 2: You know, the idea that Iran was going to comply
- 2:05Speaker 2: with the requirements of an open inspection and so forth
- 2:09Speaker 2: of their nuclear sites where repeatedly, leading up to that
- 2:15Speaker 2: negotiation they had refused entry to international inspections of their
- 2:20Speaker 2: commercial size, not to mention, they had hidden all their
- 2:24Speaker 2: military nuclear sites from the public. You know, at the
- 2:28Speaker 2: time and the signing of the agreement, nobody even knew
- 2:31Speaker 2: what they were doing in terms of military preparedness for
- 2:35Speaker 2: a nuclear bomb. And you know, recent the reporting by
- 2:39Speaker 2: CBS and others have confirmed they went right ahead creating
- 2:45Speaker 2: enriching uranium. There was never any intention to stop doing that.
- 2:50Speaker 2: So it was just there was basically built in a
- 2:54Speaker 2: sort of tenure moratorium, and then Iran.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Was basically permitted to get a nuclear weapon.
- 2:59Speaker 2: And by the way, this idea that our allies had
- 3:02Speaker 2: signed onto it, well they did because Germany and France
- 3:05Speaker 2: and others had big commercial interests in Iran, and they
- 3:08Speaker 2: had no interest at all in putting their economies on
- 3:12Speaker 2: the line or even dinging their economies by withdrawing from
- 3:16Speaker 2: what was then a pretty active buyer of their industrial goods.
- 3:19Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Revisionism in this case is pretty sickening, honestly. If we
- 3:25Speaker 2: can end up not only removing the enrichment capabilities from
- 3:30Speaker 2: Iran and the enriched uranium, and also determining that they
- 3:37Speaker 2: cannot have such a huge inventory thousands of missiles that
- 3:41Speaker 2: are capable of hitting Europe, and if we somehow can
- 3:44Speaker 2: guarantee that the Strait of removes will never again be
- 3:47Speaker 2: closed by speedboats with machine guns. That will be an
- 3:50Speaker 2: unbelievable victory Mark, and I don't think it's impossible.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Yeah, there's also another thing, you know, we were always
- 3:56Speaker 1: terrified of. We're so afraid of Iran, you know, Well,
- 4:00Speaker 1: you can never tangle with them. Even during the Iraq Wars,
- 4:03Speaker 1: the thought of getting a Ran involved, that was a
- 4:05Speaker 1: frightening trying to tangle this. Yeah, well, now that we've
- 4:08Speaker 1: gone after them all out war, we see they've got nothing.
- 4:11Speaker 1: They're just totally ineffective against us. And I think kind
- 4:15Speaker 1: of we learned the same thing about this Russian army
- 4:18Speaker 1: watching Ukraine hold them off for five years. So the
- 4:22Speaker 1: psychological effect isn't that great to really change things for us?
- 4:26Speaker 2: Well, And I would say the flip side of that
- 4:28Speaker 2: is that the United States military, over several activities in
- 4:33Speaker 2: the last couple of years, has proved themselves probably way
- 4:36Speaker 2: beyond expectation.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I mean, if the Chinese were not alarmed.
- 4:41Speaker 2: By the ability of the US military to go into
- 4:45Speaker 2: Venezuela and snatch Maduro from a very heavily armed fortress
- 4:51Speaker 2: basically without any problem whatsoever, if they were not concerned
- 4:57Speaker 2: about the combined forces of the US and Israel taking
- 5:03Speaker 2: out the nuclear sites in Iran a year ago.
- 5:07Speaker 3: They sure heck have to be pretty terrified to see.
- 5:12Speaker 2: The utter obliteration of Iran's military capabilities in the Latin
- 5:18Speaker 2: what forty days.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I mean, it's an unbelievable achievement.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And I would think President she who, by the way,
- 5:24Speaker 2: finally piped up yesterday and said enough, let's open the
- 5:27Speaker 2: Strait of Hormuz.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yes, where's he been? I think he's got to be
- 5:32Speaker 2: reassessing whatever he thought about American willingness to go into Taiwan.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Now he knows if we do decide to counter some
- 5:42Speaker 2: aggressive aggression on his part, boyle boy.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Can we do it?
- 5:47Speaker 1: Liz Peak today is officially beat up Kevin Warshday in Washington. Yeah, sure,
- 5:53Speaker 1: he's I think a good choice for the FED chairman.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I think you'd agree. And what should he do to
- 5:58Speaker 1: get through these hearings today?
- 6:00Speaker 2: Just keep his mouth shut and just don't rise to
- 6:03Speaker 2: the bait with Elizabeth Warren hectoring him about being Trump's puppet, etc.
- 6:09Speaker 2: As she did in the last couple of days, Just
- 6:11Speaker 2: to let it roll off his back. He knows who
- 6:13Speaker 2: he is he knows, and they know that. Democrats on
- 6:17Speaker 2: the committee know that he has a long fine reputation
- 6:20Speaker 2: as an inflation hawk.
- 6:22Speaker 3: What does he want to do.
- 6:23Speaker 2: He wants to bring in the rain in the balance
- 6:27Speaker 2: sheet of the Fed.
- 6:27Speaker 3: That's obviously hawkish, not dubbish. We'll see what happens here.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I think President Trump did a foolish thing and going
- 6:36Speaker 2: after J. Powell legally, and now Tom Tillis is refusing
- 6:40Speaker 2: to vote for Kevin Worsh until that issue is resolved.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Trump should resolve it and back away. There's just a
- 6:47Speaker 2: foolish undertaking. But I think Kevin Worsh will be a
- 6:50Speaker 2: good a good change agent.
- 6:54Speaker 3: At the FED.
- 6:55Speaker 2: He's not just interested in interest rates, obviously, he wants
- 6:58Speaker 2: to reform the FED and he wants to reform how
- 7:00Speaker 2: we go about their business, what kind of approach they
- 7:03Speaker 2: take to monetary policy. You know, he had sort of
- 7:07Speaker 2: revived the idea of setting rules in place for sort
- 7:10Speaker 2: of automatic adjustments in our interest rate policy based on
- 7:15Speaker 2: not the winds of the chair or the members of
- 7:18Speaker 2: the board, but actual you know, data, sort of rule
- 7:24Speaker 2: associated with the growth of the economy.
- 7:27Speaker 3: In other words, put in.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Place measures that will get away from the sort of
- 7:31Speaker 2: stop start behavior and often wrong footed behavior of fed's
- 7:36Speaker 2: chairs and bodies over the last thirty years. I remember
- 7:40Speaker 2: going to an Economics Club meeting years and years ago
- 7:43Speaker 2: and Henry Paulson stood up and said, the Fed's been
- 7:45Speaker 2: wrong for thirty five years. And I kind of thought
- 7:48Speaker 2: at the time, God, can that really be true? And
- 7:50Speaker 2: then I went back and looked a lot of the history.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Guess what, it's true.
- 7:53Speaker 2: So something needs to change, And I think Kevin Worris
- 7:57Speaker 2: could be a very very bright light in terms of
- 8:01Speaker 2: exposing the inadequacy of the FED, the wrong the fact
- 8:04Speaker 2: that they're chasing rainbows and DEI and climate issues as
- 8:09Speaker 2: opposed to really kind of paying attention to what they
- 8:11Speaker 2: need to watch.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Hey, as far as that investigation, what I would do,
- 8:16Speaker 1: take your own poal's name out of it. Just take
- 8:17Speaker 1: his name off. That the new FED building should have
- 8:20Speaker 1: been about eight hundred nine hundred million, they spent like
- 8:22Speaker 1: two to three billion. Just run an investigation into the project.
- 8:26Speaker 1: It's because it would be a good start to go
- 8:28Speaker 1: and after government waste, what happened to the extra two billion.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I agree with you. I think that's a really good idea.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And because it is kind of a classic example of
- 8:40Speaker 2: a government project just getting out of control. And my
- 8:42Speaker 2: guess is no oversight, I mean, no mark. When I
- 8:45Speaker 2: drove to Kennedy Airport last week, there's a construction project
- 8:50Speaker 2: along that road that's been underway for at least twelve years.
- 8:53Speaker 3: I talked to my driver about it.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Twelve years, and I'm sure it has cost a fortune.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Who's watching it, who's taking care of the taxpayer interest here,
- 9:02Speaker 2: not to mention the tens of thousands of poor schlumps
- 9:05Speaker 2: who drive that road every day on their way to work.
- 9:08Speaker 3: It's a horror show.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And the same thing with the FED building. You know,
- 9:12Speaker 2: Americans are far too patient. We put up with far
- 9:15Speaker 2: too much and do not demand accountability. If there's one
- 9:19Speaker 2: thing that Trump could bring in the next three years
- 9:22Speaker 2: of his administration and leave it is a sense of accountability.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I gotta say, I love what they're doing about going
- 9:28Speaker 2: after waste and fraud.
- 9:30Speaker 3: It should have been done years ago.
- 9:32Speaker 2: But you know, let's turn a spotlight on places where
- 9:35Speaker 2: people are really stealing government money.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Or just wasting it.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Because that's my money, and it's your money, it's everybody's money,
- 9:42Speaker 2: and it should be it should be a matter of
- 9:45Speaker 2: greater focus.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah. You know, Andrew Cuomo loves to brag about that
- 9:48Speaker 1: new LaGuardia terminal. It costs twenty billion. Everybody says it's
- 9:53Speaker 1: a one billion dollar terminal. We spend an extra nineteen
- 9:56Speaker 1: billion on it. But you're right, investigate all this stuff.
- 10:00Speaker 2: If you remember, Mark, when President Trump started running for
- 10:04Speaker 2: office back in fifteen or whatever, he talked about I
- 10:07Speaker 2: think it was the embassy in Israel or the embassy
- 10:10Speaker 2: in London. I forget which one, where they were going
- 10:13Speaker 2: to spend you.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Know, hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And he said, you know, I went in and there
- 10:19Speaker 2: was a building and we kind of figured out what
- 10:20Speaker 2: we could do, and it was, I don't know, it
- 10:22Speaker 2: was like a fraction of what his predecessor.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Had wanted to spend.
- 10:26Speaker 2: That's the kind of common sense language that Americans are
- 10:31Speaker 2: very very happy to hear, because we do not hear
- 10:34Speaker 2: it nearly enough.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, Liz Peak, great work. As always. Everybody, go
